- 0:01Speaker 1: Lisa and I were in Vegas, Mike, like twenty eleven
- 0:05Speaker 1: or something, so Tony Bennett saw Tony Bennett. He was
- 0:08Speaker 1: eighty five. Wow, And listen, we talk about people who
- 0:11Speaker 1: can still sing and those who kind of can't, and
- 0:14Speaker 1: you know, and he not only could he, but close
- 0:18Speaker 1: to the finale, he did something in a hall. It's
- 0:20Speaker 1: one of these Vegas rooms. It holds about two thousand.
- 0:22Speaker 1: You know, it's a good size if there's not a stadium,
- 0:24Speaker 1: but it's a good size room. And he puts the
- 0:28Speaker 1: microphone down on a stool and does a song with
- 0:33Speaker 1: no microphone and fills the room with that legendary voice
- 0:39Speaker 1: of his that the audience just went so quiet you
- 0:41Speaker 1: could hear a pin drop, but they didn't need to
- 0:43Speaker 1: because the power of Tony Bennett's voice filled that room
- 0:47Speaker 1: without the need of a microphone. It was remarkable. I'm
- 0:50Speaker 1: so glad I got a chance to see him.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, you mentioned those who, you know, get to a
- 0:55Speaker 2: certain age and who can still sing, and then those
- 0:58Speaker 2: who can't. Tell me you saw the rendition of the
- 1:02Speaker 2: national anthem at the first women's professional baseball game.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Now, mar when Martha Reeves of Marthina Reeves and the
- 1:09Speaker 1: Van Della's fame, and I was.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Waiting for you. I figured you'd rush to her defense
- 1:14Speaker 2: and bless her heart. I mean, she's I think she's
- 1:16Speaker 2: got to be eighty five, right, Yeah, but Mark, that
- 1:20Speaker 2: was that was the worst. I mean, it was awful
- 1:22Speaker 2: and people couldn't believe it. They I mean, if you
- 1:25Speaker 2: haven't seen it, or I'm gonna play it on the
- 1:27Speaker 2: show today, but.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Believe that the I mean, does anybody vet? Anybody? Does anybody?
- 1:32Speaker 1: I mean, I guess you go to Martha Reeves and say, hey,
- 1:34Speaker 1: we'd like you to do the national anthem? Uh, you
- 1:37Speaker 1: assume she can and belt it out a little bit?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Can you just know Martha Reves? Yea, she can do it?
- 1:44Speaker 2: For it. Look, and it's a hard song to sing.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I've asked anybody I've actually performed the National Anthem before,
- 1:52Speaker 2: and it's it's a it's a big, wide ranging song.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's not easy. But that one, she was just sort
- 1:59Speaker 2: of off the rails and the audience they all look
- 2:02Speaker 2: so puzzled. Well, first of all, it's a metaphor do
- 2:05Speaker 2: we really need women's professional baseball?
- 2:07Speaker 1: I mean, come on, listen, I think listen if you
- 2:11Speaker 1: put if you put something out there and people can
- 2:13Speaker 1: either attend or not, I mean my first answer would
- 2:16Speaker 1: be why not. I mean, if there's anything that is yes,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean w n B A whether they're you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: woke cult that they got going.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But this is kind of metaphor, isn't it. This is
- 2:26Speaker 2: a little bit of a metaphor, like it might be
- 2:27Speaker 2: off to a bat. I look the w n B
- 2:29Speaker 2: as crashed. I remember back in the day when you know,
- 2:33Speaker 2: women's sports became a thing, and it's I'm kind of
- 2:35Speaker 2: like you, It's like, okay, sure, why not? I mean,
- 2:38Speaker 2: knock yourself out. But this national anthem rendition, if people
- 2:42Speaker 2: haven't heard it, it's it's like, pretty, can we play
- 2:46Speaker 2: a few seconds? I'm gonna ask you.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask, well, come on, you got people listening
- 2:52Speaker 1: to us today driving number one.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I love Martha Reeves and I.
- 2:57Speaker 1: You do this.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I knew it.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I love I love the country, and it didn't. It
- 3:02Speaker 1: didn't do the country any favors. Come on for third,
- 3:05Speaker 1: twenty seconds. Come on, I'm let me just do it,
- 3:08Speaker 1: just do me a large, let me do me one favorite.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Come on, all right, twenty seconds hit it?
- 3:12Speaker 2: Y oh see come you see bye but bye?
- 3:23Speaker 1: What so proud? But why nastly? Now? In fairness, the
- 3:34Speaker 1: backup singers are much better? But what but what? But
- 3:37Speaker 1: you may have been asking them to do the impossible,
- 3:40Speaker 1: asking them to harmonize, harmonize with what?
- 3:43Speaker 2: What?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Note is that there's no harm I just wonder, I
- 3:46Speaker 1: just wonder how did this even come to pass? How
- 3:49Speaker 1: did somebody think this would be a good idea without
- 3:51Speaker 1: knowing it? But listen, let's not.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Very clearly they clearly they clearly they clearly missed the rehearsal.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Well speak Speaking of which, though, Yes, when did you
- 4:00Speaker 1: do this? You said you've knocked out an anthem in public?
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I did it in a Mina League game about
- 4:05Speaker 2: twenty years ago. I did it. I think I did
- 4:07Speaker 2: it for a football I mean I've done it a
- 4:09Speaker 2: couple of times, and then I like to do it
- 4:11Speaker 2: sometimes a different like these town hall rallies that sometimes
- 4:14Speaker 2: we do. I mean, I'll do God Bless America or
- 4:17Speaker 2: the Star Spangled ben. I love doing God Bless America. Yeah, yeah, yeah, when.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You did the sporting event or when it was like okay,
- 4:23Speaker 1: here you go, bam national anthem?
- 4:24Speaker 2: Do it?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Did you have to remind yourself what the words were,
- 4:28Speaker 1: not because you don't know them, but because and maybe
- 4:31Speaker 1: not so much you because you're a seasoned performer with
- 4:33Speaker 1: a lot of stage experience. I remember when I was
- 4:35Speaker 1: speaking of my days at BAP, we did a big
- 4:39Speaker 1: we were doing one of the Sean Hannity Freedom Concerts,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and so we were deeply involved with at me Hal
- 4:44Speaker 1: Jay all my buddy's on BAP, and they told it.
- 4:47Speaker 1: They told Halle said, would you like to do the
- 4:49Speaker 1: pledge of allegiance? He said absolutely, moments before walking out
- 4:52Speaker 1: I think the Allen event Center with a crowd of
- 4:54Speaker 1: about ten thousand, they went to hell and they said,
- 4:56Speaker 1: do the pledge of allegiance right now?
- 4:58Speaker 2: For me to do it right now?
- 4:59Speaker 1: He said, what, Just do it right now, because when
- 5:01Speaker 1: you get out there, and we're all in radio but
- 5:04Speaker 1: maybe not so much huge public speaking engagements, if you
- 5:07Speaker 1: get out there, you might vapor lock and something you've
- 5:09Speaker 1: known your whole life will go zip.
- 5:11Speaker 2: So it's everywhere memory. The older you get, memorization gets harder,
- 5:15Speaker 2: you know. I've often thought somebody suggested about a month ago,
- 5:18Speaker 2: they love the M and M extra by the way,
- 5:21Speaker 2: just saw some numbers again this morning. This thing continues
- 5:23Speaker 2: to grow. Please follow us. We're doing well, up to
- 5:26Speaker 2: another twenty thirty percent gain month to month. I mean,
- 5:29Speaker 2: people are starting to enjoy it, and it's just the
- 5:32Speaker 2: podcast is a whole different environment from what we do
- 5:35Speaker 2: every morning here on your radio show. I mean it's
- 5:37Speaker 2: more free wheeling, we get a little more personal. It's
- 5:40Speaker 2: no time constraints. So check it out. And incidentally, if
- 5:44Speaker 2: you want to get it back to your phone, just
- 5:46Speaker 2: text the keyword podcast to eight hundred and sixty five
- 5:49Speaker 2: y five mic, which is our text line, and we'll
- 5:51Speaker 2: send you back the link to take you to YouTube
- 5:53Speaker 2: or Apple or Spotify, wherever you get your podcasts. We'll
- 5:56Speaker 2: send it right to your phone. Just text podcast to
- 5:58Speaker 2: eight hundred sixty five five four or five three. But
- 6:01Speaker 2: somebody from Oklahoma City who loves the eminem extra big,
- 6:06Speaker 2: big fan of yours and listens has listened to us
- 6:08Speaker 2: for years, said you two, if you guys were the geniuses,
- 6:11Speaker 2: I think you are. If you do a stage production
- 6:14Speaker 2: together of the Odd Couple, you would you Neil Simon's
- 6:18Speaker 2: Odd Couple and it was great.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Are you are? It's kind of funny because I think
- 6:21Speaker 1: an argument. Argument can be made both ways. I gotta
- 6:24Speaker 1: be Felix. I don't think I got to be Felix.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I think I got to be the pressy. You know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Lord knows that's that that that tracks, but I mean,
- 6:34Speaker 1: doesn't it.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But I mean, we could play either one. But you
- 6:36Speaker 2: know what the challenge is memory theorization. It's one of
- 6:40Speaker 2: the talkiest plays ever. And I've always wondered how, And
- 6:43Speaker 2: it's TV movies, et cetera.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You'll shoot a few pages a day, you memorize a
- 6:49Speaker 1: few pages, you go do those few pages. Oh yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you well know, if you're doing a two hour play,
- 6:55Speaker 1: that entire thing has to be in your head boom go.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And that's a lot of memoryation. I mean, and I
- 7:01Speaker 2: and I've always done musical theaters. So for me, you
- 7:05Speaker 2: can memorize a song, then you memorize the dialogue into
- 7:08Speaker 2: and out of the song. To me, a musical is
- 7:11Speaker 2: not that hard to memorize, but a play, a straight play,
- 7:14Speaker 2: this just just dialogue might be Look, maybe we could
- 7:17Speaker 2: figure out a way to strategically put some teleprompters up on.
- 7:19Speaker 1: The stage and just tell them every every episode of
- 7:23Speaker 1: Saturday Night Live feature you ever noticed why people aren't
- 7:26Speaker 1: really looking at you know, kind of looking obliquely off
- 7:28Speaker 1: into the wings, because that's where the Q card guys.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I saw. I saw Bruce Willis. God bless him, who's
- 7:34Speaker 2: now of course in the end stages, I guess of Alzheimer's.
- 7:37Speaker 2: But one of his last jobs was on Broadway. He
- 7:41Speaker 2: was paired with the great Laurie Metcalf in a production
- 7:44Speaker 2: of Misery. Remember the Kathy Bates James conn Misery.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Movie was they did a Broadway play out of it.
- 7:51Speaker 2: They did a Broadway play of that show and it
- 7:53Speaker 2: was James and it was it was Bruce Willis and
- 7:57Speaker 2: it was uh Metcalf and it was. It was creepy
- 8:02Speaker 2: and scary, but Bruce Willis, and you look back at
- 8:06Speaker 2: it now and you understand why. Because of his eventual diagnosis,
- 8:10Speaker 2: he wore an earpiece because he couldn't memorize his lines,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and so they were somebody was feeding him lines off stage.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And it was the strangest thing because I remember seeing
- 8:20Speaker 2: I was really sitting really close. I thought, why is
- 8:22Speaker 2: he got this big? It was a big, conspicuous earpiece
- 8:25Speaker 2: and they had to kind of tape down and it
- 8:27Speaker 2: was it was them feeding him lines I found out later.
- 8:29Speaker 2: All right, let me quickly, let's get some headline. I
- 8:32Speaker 2: got to go back to the clip you played before
- 8:34Speaker 2: we started with Dana Bash and Bobby Kennedy. Did you
- 8:38Speaker 2: notice how he was reasonably saying, wait a minute, you're
- 8:42Speaker 2: saying that the vaccine saved a bunch of children's lives.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Name one study. And of course you noticed that she
- 8:49Speaker 2: couldn't write, well, there's data. There's data. No, there's not.
- 8:55Speaker 2: There's data on top all kinds of data. What data data?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Name one, name one study. Here he is in the trenches,
- 9:01Speaker 2: doing this for a living. She's a look, there's the
- 9:05Speaker 2: tide is turning on some of these hostile interviews where
- 9:08Speaker 2: some of these folks are standing up saying, you know what,
- 9:10Speaker 2: enough is enough. You're not going to do this anymore.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And and the COVID era of shutting down people who disagree,
- 9:16Speaker 2: that's gone. I don't think we're I don't. And now,
- 9:19Speaker 2: unless we lose the keys to the castle, yeah, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 2: they get back, they get back into control, we might
- 9:25Speaker 2: go back to those days again. But but that's another
- 9:27Speaker 2: reason to go vote for Republicans. I mean, here's a
- 9:29Speaker 2: poll out, another poll out, taller Rico's up over Packston
- 9:33Speaker 2: by three. Well, I don't know, take stock.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean, let's everybody be motivated, motivated by that, and
- 9:40Speaker 1: make sure.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Let it be a wake up call. Mark, let it
- 9:43Speaker 2: be a wake up call. Off call it. Magom McCain
- 9:48Speaker 2: is right, call these poles a five alarm fire. Because
- 9:51Speaker 2: you can roll your eyes and say there's no way
- 9:53Speaker 2: tallar Ico can win in Texas, you got to remind yourself, well,
- 9:57Speaker 2: maybe there is. There should be no way that any
- 9:59Speaker 2: of these loo ticks on the left or winning anywhere.
- 10:01Speaker 2: This this obdul l cieed is being probably he's gonna
- 10:05Speaker 2: win tomorrow night in Michigan and he's got a good,
- 10:08Speaker 2: good path here. Now Mike Rodgers beats him and talking
- 10:11Speaker 2: about polling, thankfully, but.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Who knows, and they're exactly November is a long way off,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and then who knows how that would go with that
- 10:18Speaker 1: kind of energy in Michigan and all all the craziness
- 10:22Speaker 1: going on in there, you know, sixty seconds back to
- 10:25Speaker 1: the to the COVID stuff and the pushback, and sure,
- 10:27Speaker 1: how gone are the days of just laying back and
- 10:31Speaker 1: being steamrolled by a media narrative? True, you know, what
- 10:34Speaker 1: else has gone And I lament this a little bit.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Faith in our health institutions. It's not good. What they
- 10:40Speaker 1: did to us during COVID was objectively not good. But
- 10:43Speaker 1: what we're left with is really troubling because every once
- 10:46Speaker 1: in a while there's going to be a health crisis
- 10:48Speaker 1: and we're going to have a need to trust some
- 10:49Speaker 1: people wearing lab coats again. And it's hard. I mean,
- 10:53Speaker 1: we've got measles, which there isn't uptick for. We've got
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, people all over America literally crapping themselves over
- 10:59Speaker 1: let and it's and it's like.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Well it's happening. I don't know.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I feel like what we need is in America with objective,
- 11:07Speaker 1: genuinely science driven experts in politicians, and there's been an
- 11:11Speaker 1: enormous atom ball that's blown up in both of those communities,
- 11:15Speaker 1: leading us in the public with a trust deficit that
- 11:18Speaker 1: is not good.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You know, it's fascinating. You know what what shot people
- 11:22Speaker 2: are trusting these days? The GLP one shots. Now people,
- 11:26Speaker 2: there's not the skepticsts. Have you noticed there's not the
- 11:29Speaker 2: skepticism about these geo and doctors are saying, look, we
- 11:33Speaker 2: think not only is it helping with diabetes, not helping
- 11:36Speaker 2: with the obesity epidemic in America. It's also helping prevent
- 11:40Speaker 2: future Alzheimer's. They're finding all kinds of benefits to these
- 11:44Speaker 2: shots and these pills.
- 11:45Speaker 1: You know what difference might think because you're first of all,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you're right, I'm thinking, okay, so it has some benefit
- 11:50Speaker 1: largely uncontroversial. Measles ain't that controversial either. But there are
- 11:55Speaker 1: a lot of people who are wondering, should I ever
- 11:57Speaker 1: listen to anybody ever again, who says I should ever
- 11:59Speaker 1: get a S for me or my kid?
- 12:01Speaker 2: Ever?
- 12:02Speaker 1: There's no government schedule that says you gotta get.
- 12:05Speaker 2: You gotta do it. There's no mandate. It's totally optional. Ye,
- 12:09Speaker 2: final choice, final thought. On a Monday, a rainy Monday
- 12:12Speaker 2: here in Florida. By the way, man, oh man, we
- 12:14Speaker 2: are under some water here, send it to us please. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 2: it was time, There was time. But yesterday, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 2: I like to I enjoy CBS Sunday morning. They had
- 12:23Speaker 2: their Money edition yesterday and Jane Polly and they did
- 12:26Speaker 2: a report on how our phones are allegedly hearing us
- 12:31Speaker 2: and spitting out ads that reflect what we say to
- 12:34Speaker 2: one anothers well, they had an exper on said absolutely impossible.
- 12:38Speaker 2: It's not happening. It's never happened, it can't happen. It's
- 12:42Speaker 2: totally I know that's fake news. That is total.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Say something to Lisa in the room and she will
- 12:48Speaker 1: then get Facebook ads about it.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Do you know this guy anything? This guy on this
- 12:53Speaker 2: report swore that is an absolute impossibility. It isn't happening.
- 12:57Speaker 2: It's an urban legend. There's no way to even physically
- 13:01Speaker 2: have that pull off. That is fake news. I call
- 13:03Speaker 2: BS on that.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Report final thirty seconds because I literally woke up and
- 13:07Speaker 1: I was channeling Mike Gallagher.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I said, well, what's on the TV?
- 13:10Speaker 1: Bucks blah blah blah. Did you stick through the rest
- 13:12Speaker 1: of CBS Sunday morning? I watched the whole thing. One
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the You've always said, it's just it's a vacation.
- 13:18Speaker 1: It's just every once in a while they do something
- 13:20Speaker 1: that's just about life or whatever. I've rarely been as
- 13:23Speaker 1: riveted as I was. And what was I guess the
- 13:25Speaker 1: last five or ten minutes their in depth investigation on
- 13:29Speaker 1: the sand dollar.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah, wasn't that would Martin? Little creatures.
- 13:32Speaker 1: These are the creatures that don't have a brain, but
- 13:34Speaker 1: they have instincts, and of course you get them, and
- 13:36Speaker 1: you get them at the beach, and you get them
- 13:37Speaker 1: at the stores. It was just, it was just fascinating television.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I love God, bless CBS Sunday Morning. I like that show.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And now once in a while Breather Now now sometimes
- 13:46Speaker 2: they go through rear left and they go to go
- 13:49Speaker 2: down even under Berry, it is no, it's still very
- 13:53Speaker 2: enter all the Sunday Morning shows. That's the one I
- 13:55Speaker 2: never want to miss. I never want to miss the
- 13:57Speaker 2: M and M Extra See you later today on the
- 13:59Speaker 2: podcast my Friend.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Let's go right after Mike's actual radio show ten am.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Soon as we're not on six sixty am. The Answer
