- 0:04Speaker 1: The joe rogan experience train.
- 0:06Speaker 2: By day joe rogan podcast by night all day yeah
- 0:12Speaker 2: yeah he said fuck you all bad he choked in sleep.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I would pay for this how.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Did you meet judo gene labelle.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I met him first on men in black 2 he
- 0:26Speaker 1: was a stunt man oh okay and uh The stunt
- 0:31Speaker 1: people would line up outside his trailer so he would
- 0:35Speaker 1: choke them out. And he would give you that little,
- 0:38Speaker 1: he would give you a patch afterwards. You've been choked
- 0:40Speaker 1: out by judo Gene LaBelle.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Oh, God. He had all those cartoonish patches. He gave
- 0:46Speaker 2: you a bunch of those. He's a character, man.
- 0:50Speaker 1: One guy, I saw one, the stuntman, right before Gene
- 0:54Speaker 1: choked him out, he goes, one second.
- 0:57Speaker 2: This Irish dude.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And he turned around and he slapped Gene in the face.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And Gene's like, okay. And then after Gene choked him,
- 1:05Speaker 1: they were standing up. Gene just dropped him straight to
- 1:09Speaker 1: the ground for slapping him.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You can get hurt like that.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well, that's what you get for slapping Gene LaBelle.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, don't slap him. Give him a kiss. Kiss him
- 1:19Speaker 2: in the cheek before he chokes you out. Don't slap him.
- 1:22Speaker 2: He had one of the very first ever mixed martial
- 1:25Speaker 2: arts fights. Oh, yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It was that he fought.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Milo Savage. Yes.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And didn't Milo Savage grease himself up beforehand?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. But also Gene was wearing a gi, which
- 1:36Speaker 2: kind of negates most of the grease.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Because you're wearing this like very frictiony gi. So he
- 1:42Speaker 2: grabbed him.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I guess the rumor was Milo Savage's gloves were loaded.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I don't know. I would do that, though, if I
- 1:52Speaker 2: was Miles Savage.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I would have some kind of weapon against
- 1:55Speaker 1: Gene LaBelle.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Most people that have never grappled a guy like that,
- 1:59Speaker 2: you don't have any idea how helpless you actually are.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You think, I'll be able to push him away from me.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'll be able to push him away and get some
- 2:07Speaker 2: punches off. You really don't know until that guy grabs you.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And it's like being grabbed by an orangutan.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, because his mom ran the Grand Olympic Auditorium, right?
- 2:15Speaker 1: And he grew up training with all teams. The disciplines
- 2:19Speaker 1: of fighters that came through there?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Well, he definitely knew pretty much everything. He knew a lot, but,
- 2:24Speaker 2: you know, obviously he's a judo specialist. But he's the
- 2:26Speaker 2: guy who taught Bruce Lee about the importance of grappling.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah, because he worked with him on the Green Hornet?
- 2:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he worked with him on that. But
- 2:35Speaker 2: when he locked up with Bruce Lee, like, Bruce Lee
- 2:38Speaker 2: was like, oh, okay, I'm helpless. Like, apparently the story
- 2:42Speaker 2: is that Gene picked him up and carried him around
- 2:44Speaker 2: over his shoulder. And then Bruce Lee was like, okay,
- 2:47Speaker 2: fuck this. Because, like, Gene was a light— I think he
- 2:50Speaker 2: was a light heavyweight judo champion. So, I mean, he's
- 2:53Speaker 2: probably at least 190 pounds. And, you know, Bruce Lee
- 2:58Speaker 2: was a pretty small guy.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And Gene just grabbed him.
- 3:02Speaker 1: His face just looked like a catcher's mitt.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It was just— just.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Looking at that guy's face.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a classic.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And always check out a guy's ears before you talk
- 3:11Speaker 1: shit with him.
- 3:13Speaker 2: If they have that, you know— Cauliflower.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Cauliflower ear. Just buy him a drink or give him
- 3:19Speaker 1: a hug.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Didn't Steve-O have that? Didn't he get it from, like,
- 3:21Speaker 2: didn't he have John Jones fuck his ears up?
- 3:23Speaker 1: He tried to get it. I don't know if it happened.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You know, I tried to do that to the director,
- 3:29Speaker 1: Jeff Tremaine, on Jackass No. 2. Every time someone would
- 3:33Speaker 1: walk past him, they would grab his ear and twist.
- 3:35Speaker 1: And we were just hoping it would cauliflower up by
- 3:38Speaker 1: the end of the film, but it didn't. Um, you
- 3:40Speaker 1: got to earn that.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah. There's a lot of guys who fake it though.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I know a lot of jujitsu guys who fake it.
- 3:46Speaker 2: They have guys fuck their ears up on purpose because
- 3:49Speaker 2: they want to look cool. It's kind of weak.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah. That's you got to earn it. Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's a, it's like Robert De Niro in that movie
- 3:57Speaker 2: where he wouldn't take Viagra. Remember a hard on should
- 3:59Speaker 2: be earned. It should be had legitimately or not at all.
- 4:05Speaker 1: The old-fashioned way, with eye contact.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Wasn't that some weird movie where he was a mob boss,
- 4:10Speaker 2: but he was going to a shrink and he couldn't
- 4:12Speaker 2: get it up? Oh, yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Was it Billy Crystal was the shrink?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I don't remember the name of it, but yeah, I
- 4:19Speaker 1: know what you're talking about.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Dude, you've had a wild ride in life. You know
- 4:24Speaker 2: what I mean? You've done a lot of crazy shit,
- 4:26Speaker 2: not just with Jackass, but you became a movie star.
- 4:32Speaker 2: What has this been like for you?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Um, sometimes it feels like you're living someone else's life,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Imposter syndrome? Yeah, a little.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And, um, I'm, I'm extremely grateful, especially for a guy
- 4:46Speaker 1: with my limited education. I get the joke, what I
- 4:50Speaker 1: would be doing if I didn't fall into what I'm doing. So, uh, yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: it's pretty surreal. I just keep trying to move forward.
- 5:00Speaker 2: How did you guys get started with Jackass? How did,
- 5:02Speaker 2: how did all that come to bear? Um.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well, the short answer is my then-girlfriend got pregnant, and
- 5:13Speaker 1: I had a daughter on the way, and I moved
- 5:16Speaker 1: to L.A. to act, but I wasn't doing anything, man.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I was drinking a lot, and then I'm like, oh, shit,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I have to support a daughter. I need to do
- 5:27Speaker 1: something quick. So I.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I was living next door to Antoine Fuqua in this duplex,
- 5:34Speaker 1: the director.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And he set me up with a casting director who
- 5:37Speaker 1: got me a commercial agent. My friend, John Linson, set
- 5:42Speaker 1: me up writing articles for this magazine because he knew
- 5:47Speaker 1: I wanted to write. And one of the articles turned
- 5:51Speaker 1: into me testing self-defense equipment on myself.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:56Speaker 1: A lot of different magazines wanted the article, but they
- 5:59Speaker 1: didn't want anything to do with it because I was
- 6:01Speaker 1: going to shoot myself in the chest with a bulletproof
- 6:04Speaker 1: vest as the last thing. It's like stun gun, taser gun,
- 6:08Speaker 1: pepper spray. And Jeff Tremaine, who now directs Jackass, he
- 6:13Speaker 1: was the editor of Big Brother magazine, a skateboarding magazine
- 6:16Speaker 1: owned by Larry Flint. And he goes, you can write
- 6:19Speaker 1: it for us and I'll help you buy a couple
- 6:21Speaker 1: of the things and The stun gun and the taser gun.
- 6:24Speaker 1: And I took the money my mom gave me for
- 6:25Speaker 1: Christmas and bought the cheapest bulletproof vest they had for
- 6:29Speaker 1: the last thing.
- 6:29Speaker 2: You don't want to skimp on a bulletproof vest.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That's all I could afford. It was either no stun
- 6:37Speaker 1: gun or taser gun. So anyway, Jeff says, hey, why
- 6:41Speaker 1: don't you film that article that you're writing? We'll put
- 6:43Speaker 1: it in our skateboard video. And it kind of snowballed
- 6:46Speaker 1: from there.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Oh, so that was the genesis of it.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Wow. Isn't it weird how like desperation or like the
- 6:53Speaker 2: recognition that like, oh, you have responsibilities. Like you got
- 6:56Speaker 2: to get going. Just lights a fire under your ass.
- 6:59Speaker 2: You become like a totally different person.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It was like I deal with a certain amount of
- 7:06Speaker 1: overcoming fear or whatever when doing the stunts. But there
- 7:12Speaker 1: was never any fear like you have a daughter on
- 7:15Speaker 1: the way and you have to figure out how to
- 7:17Speaker 1: support her.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I was.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I had to do something quick, and that was my
- 7:22Speaker 1: best guess.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the mother of invention, man. Yeah. That necessity.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Understanding. Like, being a dad and having to take care
- 7:32Speaker 2: of people, it just changes everything.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yeah, like, what am I doing? Yeah. You know what
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm doing? I'm doing fucking nothing, and I need to
- 7:39Speaker 1: do something.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:41Speaker 1: So.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a primal feeling, right? Yeah.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It changed everything.
- 7:48Speaker 2: But what... When you're doing this, first of all, what
- 7:53Speaker 2: caliber of revolver did you get shot with?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Well, the vest was the cheapest one, so it could
- 8:00Speaker 1: take a. 38, and I got a.
- 8:02Speaker 2: 38.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I borrowed it from my neighbor's wife. Jesus Christ. There
- 8:10Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of pre-production on this, Joe.
- 8:12Speaker 2: How far away were you when you got shot?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Well, my buddy was supposed to shoot me, but we just...
- 8:19Speaker 1: drove out the 14 and cause we didn't have a
- 8:22Speaker 1: location and I'm like, pull off here. And then we
- 8:25Speaker 1: pull off this exit and I'm like, okay, make a right.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And we ended up on the fire road. So we
- 8:33Speaker 1: get out there. My friend's like, I'm not going to
- 8:35Speaker 1: shoot you, man.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I can't do it.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm like, so I'm like, all right, well give me
- 8:39Speaker 1: the gun. And I'm, I'm, I got the gun to
- 8:45Speaker 1: my chest and A car pulls up behind me, and
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's a bunch of tweakers. They're driving down the fire road.
- 8:54Speaker 1: They're like, hey, how do we get to the freeway?
- 8:56Speaker 1: And I got the gun behind my back. I'm like, hey,
- 8:58Speaker 1: just go down here and make a right, then a left.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And they drove away, and so I went back to
- 9:04Speaker 1: shooting myself. It was sketchy. It looked like a snuff film.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Because my friends, the photographer on it, saw his buddy
- 9:15Speaker 1: die because he jumped off a hotel trying to hit
- 9:18Speaker 1: a swimming pool and didn't hit that swimming pool. And
- 9:22Speaker 1: so he was really scared, right? He was like, stop.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Don't do this. Don't do this.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Stop.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I wasn't getting a lot of positive reinforcement, Joe.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't seem like it.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And I had a bunch of, because since it was
- 9:33Speaker 1: Flint Magazine, I had a bunch of hustlers under the
- 9:36Speaker 1: bulletproof vest to help absorb the impact. And at one
- 9:40Speaker 1: point they all fall out and I bend over to
- 9:42Speaker 1: pick them up and I'm pointing the gun right at
- 9:44Speaker 1: my friends as I pick them up. I don't realize this,
- 9:47Speaker 1: but It was sketchy.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And that was the first?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we put that in the.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Big Brother video. ever done anything like self-harming any dangerous
- 9:58Speaker 2: type activities before you started jackass before you started doing all.
- 10:01Speaker 1: This kind of shit no no i didn't even know
- 10:04Speaker 1: itself i mean you can you can argue me my
- 10:08Speaker 1: drinking didn't help my liver but uh but it's like.
- 10:13Speaker 2: You guys like what you did was kind of fucking crazy.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But when you I guess if you stopped, I don't know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: like it just becomes something you're doing.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It was all.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Normal to me and I can't speak for them. It's
- 10:33Speaker 1: just that's what we're doing today.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And so that was the first one. And then how
- 10:39Speaker 2: many times have you done a stunt where you're like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: I could die? A few. Like you've done like the
- 10:46Speaker 2: bull one where you're blindfolded? I was like, don't do that.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I was watching. I was like, this is crazy. Yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 2: that was.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that was. Anytime you're working with a bull, I
- 10:57Speaker 1: think that they hate you. And really, they hate movement
- 11:02Speaker 1: and they want to make you stop moving forever. And
- 11:08Speaker 1: but I've had, you know, like in the Jackass number two,
- 11:10Speaker 1: when the rocket exploded, those were footlong metal rods and
- 11:15Speaker 1: there was 12 of them. One blew out right next
- 11:19Speaker 1: to my ribs, which would have been pitcher wrap on me.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And one flew back 300 yards and split two of
- 11:27Speaker 1: our art guys right between them.
- 11:30Speaker 2: That would have... It was.
- 11:32Speaker 1: We've had some really close ones. I tried to do
- 11:34Speaker 1: the Buster Keaton thing in number two, where the facade falls.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And it falls right... The window falls over my head.
- 11:43Speaker 1: That was the plan. And the guy's like, okay... When
- 11:47Speaker 1: it's because it was the it was the close right
- 11:50Speaker 1: of the movie. And the guy's like, this is a
- 11:53Speaker 1: 20 foot steel wall. Like you hit your mark. Do
- 11:57Speaker 1: not move. I'm like, got it. They said action. And
- 12:04Speaker 1: then so I take two steps and they're like, oh, no, no.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Cut, cut.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So I just like, oh, OK, I'm going to walk
- 12:12Speaker 1: over here. And they'd already released the wall.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 1: And if you watch the footage, it crushes me to
- 12:21Speaker 1: the ground. But my head just makes it through the window. Otherwise,
- 12:25Speaker 1: that would have been... I would have been done.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Oh, jeez.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 12:35Speaker 1: That was a close one.
- 12:39Speaker 2: God. Yeah. How heavy was that fucking thing?
- 12:43Speaker 1: I don't... It was 20-foot steel wall. It was... It
- 12:46Speaker 1: was incredibly heavy.
- 12:48Speaker 2: How bad did you get fucked up from that?
- 12:51Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Nothing?
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm like, it was, I was very lucky. I'm also
- 12:57Speaker 1: hyper limber, so it just, I kind of accordion on impact.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Just dumb luck.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Dumb, story of my life.
- 13:11Speaker 2: How many, all told, how many stunts have you done
- 13:15Speaker 2: like that?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Oh, I haven't. Oh, almost kaput? I don't know.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Like, there's.
- 13:27Speaker 1: At least six or seven, like, close calls.
- 13:32Speaker 2: And then.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Any number of stunts, they can go wrong, you know?
- 13:38Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I don't really... I just look forward.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Was there ever a time when you're doing this and going,
- 13:44Speaker 2: what the fuck have I got myself into? Because you
- 13:48Speaker 2: have to keep one-upping yourself, right?
- 13:52Speaker 1: Well, that was a problem for me after we did
- 13:55Speaker 1: the first movie. I didn't want to do a second
- 14:01Speaker 1: movie because I didn't know how to top the first one,
- 14:06Speaker 1: which now looks very tame compared to the others. And Finally,
- 14:14Speaker 1: Tremaine said, we don't have to top it. We just
- 14:17Speaker 1: have to be funny. And I'm like, okay, that made
- 14:22Speaker 1: me free. It took away all my anxiety. And I thought, okay,
- 14:28Speaker 1: if that's the case. And a couple months later, he
- 14:33Speaker 1: told me he was lying and we did have to
- 14:35Speaker 1: top it. But by that time, I was already off
- 14:38Speaker 1: and running.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Jesus, dude. Yeah. Your show would really give me anxiety.
- 14:45Speaker 1: It gives the guys– they get really anxious because I
- 14:51Speaker 1: know 98.5 percent of what's happening on the set. Like
- 14:57Speaker 1: Jeff and I each– we keep a little from each other.
- 15:01Speaker 1: So if we want to smoke one another. So– but
- 15:05Speaker 1: the guys don't have any idea what's happening. So– By
- 15:10Speaker 1: the second week, you can just literally go up and
- 15:12Speaker 1: put your finger on someone's shoulder. And they're like, Jesus.
- 15:16Speaker 1: They're so, so nervous. And I don't blame them.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And like when you film one of those movies, like
- 15:23Speaker 2: how long is a shoot? Like how many months do
- 15:25Speaker 2: you film for?
- 15:27Speaker 1: Well, that depends. On Jackass number two, usually about– we
- 15:34Speaker 1: go two weeks on, two weeks off over– Four, five months.
- 15:39Speaker 1: But I think jackass number two, it was eight or
- 15:43Speaker 1: nine months. And finally, they had to have an intervention
- 15:47Speaker 1: with me to stop shooting. They, hey, like, come down
- 15:51Speaker 1: to the office tomorrow. We're going to finalize the edit
- 15:53Speaker 1: or do something in the edit. I'm like, all right.
- 15:57Speaker 1: And I get there, and it's Spike, Jeff, a few
- 16:00Speaker 1: of the cast, and– they're like, we're not here to
- 16:06Speaker 1: talk about the edit. I'm like, okay, like we have
- 16:09Speaker 1: to stop shooting. We're like so far over. And then
- 16:12Speaker 1: it was also about, I was going to do the
- 16:14Speaker 1: ski jump, you know, the Olympic ski jump. And it was,
- 16:23Speaker 1: they're like, we have too much footage. You can't, let's
- 16:27Speaker 1: just not, you've already put yourself on the line so
- 16:30Speaker 1: much you can't. And then it became like, Well, I
- 16:38Speaker 1: decided not to because I felt like this big intervention,
- 16:44Speaker 1: it was like doomed. The stunt was doomed in my
- 16:47Speaker 1: mind then that something negative was going to happen. So
- 16:52Speaker 1: I ended up not doing the ski jump, but I
- 16:55Speaker 1: did negotiate two more weeks of shooting out of them.
- 16:58Speaker 2: How far were you supposed to jump?
- 17:01Speaker 1: Until I went kaboom. I don't know. It was going
- 17:04Speaker 1: to be the Olympic ski jump.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Like when they fly? Yeah. Do you know how to ski?
- 17:09Speaker 1: Not at all. I don't want to be good at
- 17:16Speaker 1: the stunt. Nobody wants to see that.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you'd have to train for years to
- 17:20Speaker 2: be good at it. But I mean, I was just.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I had about 20 minutes. Oh. So that didn't happen.
- 17:26Speaker 1: But I don't even know how we got on this.
- 17:32Speaker 2: This episode is brought to you by Amazon MGM Studios'
- 17:36Speaker 2: new movie, Mercy, only in theaters January 23. Set in

- 18:15Speaker 2: consider doing it again?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Well, I... I can't do any stunt where I would
- 18:23Speaker 1: get a concussion now because I've had too many. The
- 18:27Speaker 1: last one was really gnarly. I kind of went offline
- 18:31Speaker 1: for a while. What long was that? In Jackass Forever,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I dressed up as a magician. And I got obsessed
- 18:40Speaker 1: with the idea of pranking an animal. I just wanted to...
- 18:47Speaker 1: the thought of seeing the animal's reaction after the prank.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And that kind of morphed into me dressing as a
- 18:58Speaker 1: magician in a bull ring, doing the pouring the milk
- 19:02Speaker 1: in the hat trick to get the bull's reaction. And
- 19:06Speaker 1: apparently the bull didn't think much of my trick because it, it, Well,
- 19:13Speaker 1: first of all, usually when you're working with a bull
- 19:16Speaker 1: in a ring, there's a lot of soft dirt around,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you know. And I got there that morning, and it
- 19:27Speaker 1: was just dirt, but it was like concrete. And I
- 19:33Speaker 1: thought to myself, well, that's a problem. But we're there.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I'm shooting. I'm shooting. So anyway, long story short, the ball,
- 19:42Speaker 1: the bull hits me and I, usually when a bull
- 19:45Speaker 1: hits you, well, always they drop their head, right? So
- 19:48Speaker 1: I always try. to jump a split second before it
- 19:52Speaker 1: hits me so I get above the bull as opposed
- 19:55Speaker 1: to below the bull, which is never any fun. But
- 20:00Speaker 1: I miss time, I jump. I jump too early. So
- 20:03Speaker 1: I jumped, and then I start coming back down, and
- 20:07Speaker 1: then the bull hits me, and it flips me like,
- 20:11Speaker 1: I do like a one and a half flip. And
- 20:14Speaker 1: the only thing that stops me is the back of
- 20:15Speaker 1: the head, my back of my head hitting the concrete ground.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And I got a concussion with the brain hemorrhage, a
- 20:24Speaker 1: broken rib and a broken wrist out of the deal.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And that was it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And yeah, it was, it was so.
- 20:31Speaker 2: And this is after you let Butterbean KO you too.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Lucky punch.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah. That fucking dude hit so hard. I watched that.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I was like, don't let that happen. Don't do that.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Everyone's like, boy, that knockout punch must have hurt. I'm like,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I didn't even feel it. The punches before really hurt,
- 20:54Speaker 1: but the knockout punch, you've been knocked out before. You
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't feel it. That one was a pretty bad concussion, too.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I had vertigo for six to eight weeks after that.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Just driving around a curve, everything starts spinning.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Did you go to a hospital and get checked out?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Well, I went to see my doctor, Dr. Kipper, and
- 21:18Speaker 1: he had to sew up my head because I fell
- 21:20Speaker 1: back onto the hard ground of the swap meet. I
- 21:26Speaker 1: think I hit my head on the corner of a
- 21:28Speaker 1: display counter as well. I don't know.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Fuck, dude.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Should have went to college.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you ever feel any responsibility for how many
- 21:40Speaker 2: people you inspire to do similar things?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Well, I hope to just entertain them and not inspire them,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but I don't have any control over that except for
- 21:56Speaker 1: when I do things like this, like just watch, don't do.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I don't want anyone to get hurt. Me, I'm another story.
- 22:07Speaker 2: It's kind of amazing that you're okay, you know, other
- 22:11Speaker 2: than the bad concussions.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm pretty okay with how it turned out.
- 22:18Speaker 2: What's the worst injury that anybody ever suffered during jackass filming? Um, wow.
- 22:27Speaker 1: There's been many concussions, breaks, uh, I don't know, just
- 22:40Speaker 1: arm breaks, back breaks.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Do you have any long-term problems because of it?
- 22:48Speaker 1: My lower back is pretty blown out. And who knows
- 22:53Speaker 1: about how the concussions will rectify themselves. Hopefully I'm okay.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Do you feel any lingering effects?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Well, my lower back's fine. Blown out. So I just
- 23:08Speaker 1: had an intercept procedure on my back about in early December.
- 23:15Speaker 1: They go, the nerve and the vertebra, they go in
- 23:19Speaker 1: and like somehow use radio frequency heat to basically burn
- 23:26Speaker 1: the nerve so it can't send the signal to your
- 23:30Speaker 1: brain that it's hurt.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Oh, so you just walk around hurt, but you don't
- 23:34Speaker 2: feel it? I don't know.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm fine with that.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Is it doing continual damage or is it just pain?
- 23:41Speaker 1: I think it seems to be, and that's an excellent
- 23:45Speaker 1: question that I did not ask, nor did I care about.
- 23:49Speaker 1: But thank you for bringing it up. I think to
- 23:52Speaker 1: me it's just pain. So, you know.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Jesus. Have you done anything else for it? Like there's
- 23:59Speaker 2: a bunch of different– is it a herniated disc?
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, the lower two discs are herniated. And I had
- 24:07Speaker 1: shots in the facet joints of my lower back. It
- 24:12Speaker 1: was like they put some kind of steroid in there.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And it didn't give the result that I wanted.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Have you ever heard of a machine called a reverse hyper?
- 24:23Speaker 1: No.
- 24:24Speaker 2: There's a machine that a guy named Louis Simmons– He
- 24:26Speaker 2: was this legendary powerlifter guy. He developed because he had
- 24:31Speaker 2: fucked his discs up powerlifting, and the doctors told him
- 24:34Speaker 2: that he needed to fuse his disc because they were compressed.
- 24:37Speaker 2: And he's like, well, can't we decompress him? And they're like, no,
- 24:40Speaker 2: there's no way. He's like, well, there's got to be
- 24:42Speaker 2: a way. So he developed a machine that decompresses the
- 24:45Speaker 2: spine while also strengthening the muscles around it. It's a
- 24:49Speaker 2: piece of exercise. That's Louie. He developed this machine.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Looks like something that happened to Ving Rhames in Pulp Fiction.
- 25:00Speaker 1: What does the machine do? It strengthens.
- 25:02Speaker 2: On the way up, when she's lifting with her legs,
- 25:05Speaker 2: it's strengthening her back. And on the downswing, it's actively
- 25:09Speaker 2: decompressing your back. So it pulls the discs apart and
- 25:14Speaker 2: creates space. I love this machine. I have one at home.
- 25:17Speaker 2: I have one here at the studio. I use it
- 25:19Speaker 2: all the time. It's really an important piece of equipment
- 25:23Speaker 2: for anybody that has a lower back injury or who
- 25:25Speaker 2: wants to prevent lower back injuries. And just for overall
- 25:28Speaker 2: strength because it's a very odd movement to be able
- 25:30Speaker 2: to recreate. Oh, great.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm going to look into that. Yeah, I'll show it
- 25:34Speaker 1: to you.
- 25:34Speaker 2: We'll have it in the gym afterwards. I'll show it
- 25:35Speaker 2: to you after the podcast. Oh, sweet. You should get one.
- 25:38Speaker 2: It'll help you.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 2: There's another thing called a teeter. You know those things
- 25:42Speaker 2: you hang by your ankles? Yeah. Where you like decompress?
- 25:45Speaker 2: They developed one called the DEX where you hinge from
- 25:49Speaker 2: your waist. So you, like, get in this thing, you
- 25:52Speaker 2: strap your legs in, and you lean forward, and it's
- 25:55Speaker 2: like you're hanging from, like, that. So you're hanging from
- 25:59Speaker 2: your hips. Like, all your weight is being, like, set
- 26:03Speaker 2: on your thighs, and your back carries all the weight,
- 26:07Speaker 2: and it just slowly, like, pop, pop, pop, it decompresses.
- 26:10Speaker 2: It feels great. That thing fucking rules. I always tell everybody,
- 26:15Speaker 2: if you have a back injury... You have back problems.
- 26:18Speaker 2: That thing will help you a lot. Just do that
- 26:19Speaker 2: for a few minutes every day. And slowly over time,
- 26:23Speaker 2: it creates space. And it alleviates some of the pinching
- 26:27Speaker 2: and problems that people have. Depending, of course, on the
- 26:31Speaker 2: severity of your injury. But I love that thing.
- 26:34Speaker 1: All right. Might be getting a couple pieces of equipment. Yeah, man.
- 26:38Speaker 2: You got to prevent. So how the fuck did they
- 26:41Speaker 2: talk you into hosting Fear Factor? How'd that happen?
- 26:45Speaker 1: I met with.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Sharon Levy, who runs Endemol.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I know Sharon. Shout out to Sharon Levy. She's awesome.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And I... I was like, I'm on the fence, you know?
- 27:01Speaker 1: And I sat down with her, and I liked her
- 27:04Speaker 1: so much. Because she seems like... How did a woman
- 27:08Speaker 1: like you that is awesome, get a job, is the
- 27:13Speaker 1: head of... You know?
- 27:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:14Speaker 1: She seems very rebellious.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Right. And.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I just thought, yeah, I'm in. So it happened over lunch.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Really?
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I really liked her.
- 27:27Speaker 2: One of the problems that we had with Fear Factor
- 27:29Speaker 2: is we did 148 episodes initially, and then we came
- 27:33Speaker 2: back for a brief amount of time, but they wanted
- 27:35Speaker 2: to really ramp it up. It was like, these stunts
- 27:39Speaker 2: are going to be bigger and crazier than ever, and
- 27:41Speaker 2: I was relieved when it got canceled because I was like,
- 27:45Speaker 2: we're going to fuck somebody up.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you felt. What kind of, you have a couple
- 27:51Speaker 1: of examples?
- 27:52Speaker 2: Well, there was a bunch in the early days. The
- 27:54Speaker 2: first one that we ever did where I was like,
- 27:56Speaker 2: don't do this, was bull riding. Made people bull ride.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And this one lady was like, she probably weighed like
- 28:03Speaker 2: 98 pounds. Right. And she got on the back of
- 28:05Speaker 2: the bull. I'm like, she's not going to be able
- 28:06Speaker 2: to hang on at all. She's going to go flying.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Stunt guys are some of the most savage people. Fucking psychotic,
- 28:16Speaker 2: zero fear at all for their safety. They get so
- 28:21Speaker 2: hardened by it over time. Just not normal people. And
- 28:25Speaker 2: this guy, Perry, I was like, dude, you're going to
- 28:28Speaker 2: make them ride a bull? He's like, don't worry about it, boo.
- 28:30Speaker 2: These are stunt bulls. That's what he said. I go,
- 28:36Speaker 2: does that bull know he's a stunt bull?
- 28:37Speaker 1: They got their scent card.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I bet he has no fucking idea. I bet he
- 28:40Speaker 2: just thinks he's a bull. So they're in the cage
- 28:43Speaker 2: before they do it. The bull's fucking bucking. Yeah. And
- 28:46Speaker 2: he's just all fucking tank.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:49Speaker 2: And I'm just going, don't. I told the people, I'm like,
- 28:51Speaker 2: don't do it. Don't do it. Just quit, man. Just
- 28:53Speaker 2: don't do it. It was like one of the only
- 28:55Speaker 2: things where I was like, I wouldn't do it. I'm
- 28:57Speaker 2: telling you right now, I would never do this.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Were the bulls, were they the bulls that would, because
- 29:02Speaker 1: certain bulls, They get upset if you ride them, but
- 29:06Speaker 1: after you fall off, they don't try to hook you.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Did these bulls try to hook them after they got?
- 29:10Speaker 2: They had handlers that steered the bull away from the people.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:14Speaker 2: And they did a good job with that. But, I mean,
- 29:16Speaker 2: who fucking knows? They don't want you on them. They
- 29:19Speaker 2: weigh 2,000 pounds. They're all muscle. Like, the thing was
- 29:24Speaker 2: so powerful. Like, you could feel it when it was
- 29:26Speaker 2: in the cage. It was just fucking moving around. I
- 29:29Speaker 2: was like, don't do this.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And they're smart. Like. Bulls are very smart. That's why, unfortunately,
- 29:37Speaker 1: you know, in Spanish bullfighting, they kill the bull, which
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm not on board with. But because they learn your movements,
- 29:48Speaker 1: you can't make the same movement twice in a row
- 29:51Speaker 1: with the bull because they're going to go, oh, OK,
- 29:53Speaker 1: I'm going to be you're going to do that and
- 29:55Speaker 1: I'm going to be right here waiting on you. It's unfair.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And you can't have anyone move behind the fence when
- 30:03Speaker 1: it's on because bulls can easily jump over the fence.
- 30:08Speaker 1: A lot of them just don't know they can. So
- 30:10Speaker 1: if you frighten them or provoke them, they're just going
- 30:13Speaker 1: to jump over the fence. And then they have like
- 30:15Speaker 1: 35 people they can smoke. Yeah, it's when we work
- 30:22Speaker 1: with bulls, the set is different. The set is different.
- 30:28Speaker 1: The guy, Gary LeFew, who supplies our bulls, he was
- 30:31Speaker 1: world champion in 1970. And when we first started working
- 30:36Speaker 1: with him, and it stuck with us the whole time,
- 30:39Speaker 1: he's like, when we have bulls on the set, I
- 30:41Speaker 1: don't want anyone, any kind of negativity going around the set.
- 30:47Speaker 1: It's already hard enough with the bull. If there's anyone
- 30:50Speaker 1: negative or any negativity, that person's off the set.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Negativity like in what way?
- 30:56Speaker 1: Just if there's any, like, saying negative things or they've
- 31:01Speaker 1: had a fight with someone right before. Any kind of
- 31:04Speaker 1: negative vibes. No negative vibes.
- 31:06Speaker 2: The bull senses negative vibes?
- 31:08Speaker 1: Just, well, the whole, everyone on the set senses negative vibes.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And everyone has to be completely present and positive for this.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Is this voodoo or is this like real science?
- 31:23Speaker 1: No, I think it makes total sense. Especially... When you're
- 31:28Speaker 1: doing stunts, when you're doing a stunt that can forever
- 31:32Speaker 1: alter you, I don't like any negativity either. And also,
- 31:39Speaker 1: if you're doing something that can forever alter you, you
- 31:42Speaker 1: have to want to be there and want to be
- 31:45Speaker 1: doing it. You can't halfway go into it because then
- 31:49Speaker 1: you're really going to get fucked up.
- 31:51Speaker 2: And this is knowledge you've acquired over time. Yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 1: No, that's true. If you, like, half commit in something
- 31:59Speaker 1: that can– you're going to get– yeah, it's bad. It's
- 32:06Speaker 1: going to be bad anyway, but you need to want
- 32:10Speaker 1: to be there.
- 32:12Speaker 2: What a bizarre life skill.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:17Speaker 2: You know what I mean? What a bizarre skill. I
- 32:20Speaker 2: know how to survive doing something you really shouldn't do
- 32:23Speaker 2: that could alter you forever. Stay positive.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Well, that's– it doesn't– it's not a guarantee, Joe, but
- 32:32Speaker 1: it does– I think it does help.
- 32:34Speaker 2: We did a bunch of other stuff that was not bulls,
- 32:38Speaker 2: like with cars and trucks and stuff where I was like, ooh.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Like we had a close call once with this lady
- 32:44Speaker 2: who was strapped to the front of a truck and
- 32:47Speaker 2: she was supposed to go through some sort of an
- 32:49Speaker 2: obstacle course, but like they– blew through some boxes and
- 32:54Speaker 2: the box got on the windshield of the other car
- 32:57Speaker 2: and the other car almost slammed into her legs.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:02Speaker 2: And she was screaming because she thought it hit her.
- 33:04Speaker 2: And it was like, we were like, what the fuck
- 33:06Speaker 2: are we doing?
- 33:07Speaker 1: Was that when you guys came back for the second round?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the second round. Yeah, the second round
- 33:12Speaker 2: was sketchy. You know, we had people like getting, they
- 33:15Speaker 2: were attached to a tree and they had to figure
- 33:18Speaker 2: out which key to unlock them. while a bungee cord
- 33:20Speaker 2: was attached to them and a helicopter. And so once
- 33:24Speaker 2: they got the thing unlocked, they would fucking rocket off
- 33:29Speaker 2: of this tree.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Up through the limbs.
- 33:31Speaker 2: No, no, no. Luckily it wasn't that. There was no
- 33:35Speaker 2: branches that could have got them.
- 33:36Speaker 1: But that would have been funnier.
- 33:38Speaker 2: It would have been funnier, like through the branches and shit.
- 33:40Speaker 2: So they rocket over a fucking giant canyon. Like we're
- 33:43Speaker 2: on the top of this canyon. And they just went
- 33:46Speaker 2: flying while they were being... bungee jumped on the bottom
- 33:50Speaker 2: of this fucking helicopter. It was terrifying. They were so high.
- 33:55Speaker 2: If anything went wrong, they were dead as fuck. 100% dead. Oh, man. Yeah.
- 34:00Speaker 1: That's sketchy.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Oh, there was so much sketchy stuff. And then it
- 34:03Speaker 2: ultimately got canceled because they had a drink cum. Did
- 34:08Speaker 2: you ever see that episode? No, no. Yeah, that's what
- 34:11Speaker 2: sunk us. So there was only two times.
- 34:13Speaker 1: What year was, what kind of?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Donkey. Donkey cum. Donkey cum.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Ah. Yeah. That'll do it every time, Joe.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah. And they got donkey cum because it's the cheapest cum.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Boars ejaculate 15 ounces at a time. Whoa.
- 34:31Speaker 2: So. A wild boar, like a pig? Yeah. Really?
- 34:34Speaker 1: 15 ounces.
- 34:36Speaker 2: That's a lot. Yeah. That's a fucking beer stein.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:41Speaker 2: So this is it. So that guy's drinking donkey cum
- 34:45Speaker 2: and his brother's drinking donkey piss.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I'd offer to piss.
- 34:52Speaker 2: That guy chugged it. He chugged donkey cum. I'm starting
- 34:56Speaker 2: to dry here. That was a lot of cum.
- 34:58Speaker 1: A black and tan kind of with the piss and
- 35:01Speaker 1: the semen wouldn't have been a terrible idea.
- 35:04Speaker 2: It was so nasty.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Who were the girls there?
- 35:06Speaker 2: Well, they were all twins. It was three sets of twins.
- 35:10Speaker 2: And they had to play horseshoes. Her mascara.
- 35:14Speaker 1: She had to drink the semen, too?
- 35:16Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And the thing is, three sets
- 35:21Speaker 2: of people, three twins, three groups of twins did it.
- 35:26Speaker 2: And only one won the money. Oh. So two people
- 35:31Speaker 2: drank donkey cum and two people drank donkey piss for nothing.
- 35:35Speaker 1: You know what the worst part of that is? Semen
- 35:37Speaker 1: burps later on.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Just that bleachy smell.
- 35:44Speaker 2: The ladies, like, between the two of them, were fighting
- 35:49Speaker 2: over who drank the piss. They wanted to drink. They
- 35:52Speaker 2: didn't want to drink the piss. They were happy to
- 35:53Speaker 2: drink the cum. Which, I guess, tracks. You know, like,
- 35:59Speaker 2: been there, done that. Not in that kind of volume,
- 36:03Speaker 2: but what's the worst that could happen? Whereas the guys
- 36:05Speaker 2: were like, really trying not to drink the cum, you know,
- 36:09Speaker 2: I don't know what they did to decide. Cause they
- 36:11Speaker 2: had to decide like one of them was going to
- 36:12Speaker 2: drink cum. One of them was going to drink piss.
- 36:14Speaker 2: So that was one of two times, two times where
- 36:17Speaker 2: I was hosting this show where I said to the producers,
- 36:19Speaker 2: don't do this. Don't do this. I'm like, the show's
- 36:22Speaker 2: going to get canceled. They're like, no, we're fine. NBC
- 36:25Speaker 2: approved it. They did.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Like, they're the bellwethers of good taste.
- 36:29Speaker 2: There was a fucking guy on set who was like
- 36:32Speaker 2: the NBC standards guy, the standards and practices guy. And
- 36:36Speaker 2: I'm like, you're okay with this? Like, this is okay.
- 36:39Speaker 2: And they're like, yeah, the network's fine with it. I'm like,
- 36:41Speaker 2: this is so fucking, you guys are too close to this.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I'm like, you guys are too close to this. You
- 36:47Speaker 2: don't understand how the general public's going to react. And
- 36:49Speaker 2: then I think what happened, I think it was TMZ,
- 36:53Speaker 2: but someone leaked the footage online. Someone leaked like images
- 36:59Speaker 2: of people drinking, kind of like fear factor crosses the line.
- 37:02Speaker 2: And then the outrage was palpable. It was like some
- 37:06Speaker 2: serious outrage. And then that show never aired in America,
- 37:10Speaker 2: but it aired overseas. I think it aired in like,
- 37:13Speaker 2: Maybe the Netherlands or something like that.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Killed in Germany.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Which is where Fear Factor actually came from. Fear Factor
- 37:20Speaker 2: was actually a show in the Netherlands called Now or Neverland.
- 37:25Speaker 2: And then they brought it over to America. Endemol purchased it.
- 37:29Speaker 2: And then they changed it to, I think, then they
- 37:33Speaker 2: came up with the name Fear Factor after that. That
- 37:35Speaker 2: was like when I was already on board. Yeah.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Wow, I didn't know that.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:41Speaker 1: There was virtually no blowback after Pontius drank horse cum
- 37:46Speaker 1: in Jackass No. 2. Never heard about it.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Well, it wasn't on TV, at least. There's something about television. Censored,
- 37:57Speaker 2: federal communications approved, peer factor, and they drank cum. So
- 38:03Speaker 2: that got us canceled. That was it. That was like
- 38:05Speaker 2: 2011 or something like that.
- 38:09Speaker 1: How many seasons did you do?
- 38:13Speaker 2: I think we did six or seven initially, and then
- 38:18Speaker 2: we did another six episodes, one of them that never aired.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Did you help write creative?
- 38:27Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no.
- 38:28Speaker 1: You didn't want any part of that?
- 38:29Speaker 2: I had zero. No, what I would do is I'd
- 38:32Speaker 2: show up at work, I'd get in my trailer, I'd
- 38:34Speaker 2: take an edible and And then I would go to
- 38:36Speaker 2: the set. And I'm like, what do we got? I
- 38:38Speaker 2: did the first four episodes I did sober. And I
- 38:41Speaker 2: was like, this is so boring. I need to get high.
- 38:44Speaker 2: And so I would take pot lollipops and pot gummies
- 38:49Speaker 2: and just get fucking lit and then enjoy it. Because
- 38:52Speaker 2: then it was like, this is an adventure. What a
- 38:54Speaker 2: great gig. Oh, it was a fun gig.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Yeah. I had so much fun, too, because all I
- 39:00Speaker 1: did was talk.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Yeah. You know? Oh, it's easy. I ate a lot
- 39:03Speaker 2: of shit. I ate a lot of things to try
- 39:05Speaker 2: to encourage people. you know, like, cause after a while
- 39:08Speaker 2: I got so numb.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You would do the things with them.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I'd be like, you could do it. Like, I'll do it.
- 39:12Speaker 2: I'll do it for you. Like, and some of the
- 39:14Speaker 2: times when I did it to just try to help people,
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm like, look, I'm going to show you, I'm going
- 39:18Speaker 2: to do it. And then you're going to do it.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And then we didn't even air me doing it because
- 39:22Speaker 2: I was like, cause they didn't want it to make
- 39:23Speaker 2: it seem like it was so, cause I could do
- 39:25Speaker 2: it easily Cause I was so used to disgusting stuff.
- 39:28Speaker 2: I could just take a roach and just throw it down.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Take a worm and throw it down. I'm like, just
- 39:32Speaker 2: do it. It's not that hard. It's all in your
- 39:34Speaker 2: fucking head. Cause I was trying to like, you.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Know, I get it. Like coach people through it. I,
- 39:39Speaker 1: when I took the job, I'm like, I, this, I'm
- 39:42Speaker 1: just going to like give people hell, you know, the
- 39:46Speaker 1: whole time, you know? and make their fears worse. But
- 39:49Speaker 1: then I get to set and there's a human in
- 39:54Speaker 1: front of you and I'm like, I don't know, these
- 39:57Speaker 1: are regular people and they really have fears. So I'm
- 40:00Speaker 1: gonna try, I ended up like you, trying to help
- 40:02Speaker 1: them do it. But I never wanted to do what
- 40:10Speaker 1: they were doing for the fact that I never wanted
- 40:14Speaker 1: that footage To be seen like I'm trying to, you know,
- 40:17Speaker 1: like you were just like you had confidence that they
- 40:20Speaker 1: wouldn't show that.
- 40:22Speaker 2: And I'm like, they showed a few things. They showed
- 40:24Speaker 2: me eating like spiders. They showed me eating a roach.
- 40:27Speaker 2: But I ate a lot of stuff that they never saw.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Or I did some things that they because I just wanted.
- 40:32Speaker 1: These people to, you know, I get it. Like, it's good.
- 40:35Speaker 2: It's in your head. I'm like, you just got to decide. Like,
- 40:38Speaker 2: your mind has to decide. I'm just going to do this.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Just do it. Just go ahead and do it. Don't
- 40:42Speaker 2: think about, oh, my God, I can't believe I'm doing it.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Just fucking do it. Chew, swallow, chew, swallow. I would
- 40:47Speaker 2: just talk them through it. And I became like a
- 40:51Speaker 2: fucking motivational coach or something like that. That was weird.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's real because after there was on the first–
- 40:58Speaker 1: there was one girl that quit. She's like, I'm not
- 41:03Speaker 1: continuing this bit, this stunt.
- 41:07Speaker 2: What was it?
- 41:08Speaker 1: It was something with snakes.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:11Speaker 1: And it was a big fear. And after that, I
- 41:14Speaker 1: got the cast together and I'm like it. At least
- 41:19Speaker 1: always try to do what we're doing. Don't don't let
- 41:24Speaker 1: it the fear stop you.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Just always try. And after that, like everyone, even if
- 41:30Speaker 1: they're horrified, they made an effort. And I felt good
- 41:33Speaker 1: about that. And I think they did, too.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Oh, that's cool. Yeah.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I mean, some people, but it's sometimes it's good that
- 41:40Speaker 2: someone quits. So you realize like, this is real. Like
- 41:43Speaker 2: some people really like, especially snakes, snakes, Tim, there's something, uh,
- 41:48Speaker 2: about a, a phidiophobia that I think is primal. I
- 41:52Speaker 2: think it's in your DNA. I think either your ancestors
- 41:57Speaker 2: were either bitten by a snake and barely survived or
- 42:00Speaker 2: someone saw someone die from a snake. And that, that,
- 42:05Speaker 2: Information is encoded in your DNA because the the fear
- 42:09Speaker 2: that people have of snakes is fucking wild Like when
- 42:13Speaker 2: they have legitimate aphidiophobia, it is a fucking crazy fear
- 42:17Speaker 2: to watch Yeah, it's it's like their whole body locks up.
- 42:22Speaker 2: They start shaking like it's not a normal fear It's
- 42:25Speaker 2: like an ancient caveman fear that's locked into their DNA
- 42:29Speaker 2: like someone is thousands of years ago survived something like
- 42:34Speaker 2: this and that's the only reason why you're here and
- 42:37Speaker 2: every fiber of your being wants to fucking run away
- 42:41Speaker 2: from snakes.
- 42:42Speaker 1: It's wonderful.
- 42:43Speaker 2: It has to be.
- 42:44Speaker 1: When someone has that it's like bam terrified of snakes.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Oh really?
- 42:49Speaker 1: Terrified. And of course we use that to our advantage.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Of course. Yeah. Well we would make people fill out
- 42:58Speaker 2: a questionnaire when they would sign up for Fear Factor. Like,
- 43:00Speaker 2: what are your fears? Heights, snakes, spiders. Well, you're getting heights, snakes,
- 43:05Speaker 2: and spiders.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I would write tequila, whiskey.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Blowjobs. I hate back massages. Yeah. Yeah, it was fascinating because, like,
- 43:16Speaker 2: you know, I had a background in martial arts and teaching.
- 43:20Speaker 2: And one of the things that I did when I
- 43:22Speaker 2: was younger was I took a lot of people to tournaments.
- 43:25Speaker 2: And I coached a lot of people. Yeah. Taekwondo tournaments
- 43:28Speaker 2: and they'd be fucking terrified. And I learned how to
- 43:32Speaker 2: lock in with them and how to get them into
- 43:34Speaker 2: a certain mindset as a coach. And I'd be like, look,
- 43:37Speaker 2: you're gonna get past this and this is gonna be
- 43:40Speaker 2: one of the highlights of your life because you're absolutely
- 43:42Speaker 2: terrified and this fear on the other side will be
- 43:47Speaker 2: a completely different feeling. You'll have a feeling of accomplishment,
- 43:50Speaker 2: you'll have a feeling of an understanding of knowing that
- 43:53Speaker 2: you can overcome very terrifying situations You can triumph and
- 43:59Speaker 2: you could do this like you have skills You just
- 44:01Speaker 2: have to be able to go out there and perform
- 44:03Speaker 2: and you can do it and I'd get in their
- 44:05Speaker 2: head I carried that over to fear factor sometimes because
- 44:09Speaker 2: there was people that just needed to help like they
- 44:12Speaker 2: didn't they had never Experienced anything that really freaked them
- 44:15Speaker 2: out before they'd never experienced the kind of pressure of
- 44:18Speaker 2: not just a competition but a competition where they're doing
- 44:20Speaker 2: something kind of dangerous and It's something that really fucking
- 44:23Speaker 2: freaked them out. They have to hold their breath underwater
- 44:26Speaker 2: for like two minutes while they swim through a fucking thing.
- 44:28Speaker 2: And we have rescue divers under there, rescue them. There's panic.
- 44:32Speaker 2: And it was like, that was one thing that was
- 44:35Speaker 2: really satisfying was being able to like take a person
- 44:38Speaker 2: who was ready to fucking quit. And then they went
- 44:41Speaker 2: on and won the whole thing.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. That's, that does make you feel good to
- 44:45Speaker 1: push someone to the other side and The survivor's euphoria
- 44:50Speaker 1: waiting for you.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I heard that. I read about that term.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Survivor's euphoria?
- 44:59Speaker 1: And I realized I'd experienced it a few times.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Multiple times. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Have you ever heard of Colonel John Paul Stapp?
- 45:07Speaker 2: No.
- 45:08Speaker 1: He was a doctor, a biophysicist, a flight surgeon, and
- 45:14Speaker 1: he worked with– Chuck Yeager and all that out at Edwards.
- 45:27Speaker 1: It's now Edwards Air Force Base. And they were conducting
- 45:31Speaker 1: experiments on what happens to a pilot when they eject
- 45:37Speaker 1: at high altitude. And Colonel John Paul Stapp, Because these
- 45:44Speaker 1: experiments were gnarly. They were on deceleration. They built this
- 45:47Speaker 1: huge sled out in the desert, and he would strap
- 45:53Speaker 1: himself in because the thinking at the time was if
- 45:56Speaker 1: you're going to do something, a very dangerous experiment, a
- 46:01Speaker 1: lot of times people back then would put themselves at
- 46:03Speaker 1: the center because they didn't want to. Of course, they
- 46:05Speaker 1: had other people doing it, and he did it most, though.
- 46:10Speaker 1: So they would go hundreds of miles per hour, yes.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Hundreds of miles per hour and stop within eight feet.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And at the time, I think they thought you could
- 46:21Speaker 1: only experience maybe 18 G's of deceleration. He at one
- 46:28Speaker 1: time experienced 49 G's of deceleration. I think it's the
- 46:32Speaker 1: most ever that any human is. And he went blind
- 46:36Speaker 1: for a little bit and he knew that was going
- 46:38Speaker 1: to happen because he had that happen before in these experiments.
- 46:43Speaker 1: And the night before, the one where he got 49 G's,
- 46:46Speaker 1: experienced 49 G's, he went around his house with his
- 46:50Speaker 1: eyes closed and just trying to do things like cook
- 46:55Speaker 1: if he did go blind forever. He's one of the most.
- 47:01Speaker 1: At one time, he was known as the fastest man alive.
- 47:04Speaker 1: On that sled, he went faster than anyone at the time.
- 47:07Speaker 1: And he's the reason we have seatbelts in cars. He's
- 47:11Speaker 1: one of the most Brilliant man of the 20th century.
- 47:15Speaker 1: He was on the cover of Time magazine. No one
- 47:17Speaker 1: knows who he is today.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Wow.
- 47:19Speaker 1: But he talked about survivor's euphoria, and that's where I
- 47:23Speaker 1: learned about it.
- 47:24Speaker 2: What did he say about it?
- 47:26Speaker 1: Just the endorphins that get released after going through something
- 47:33Speaker 1: like that, and that you did survive, and it just
- 47:38Speaker 1: fills you up.
- 47:40Speaker 2: So he knew he was going to go blind and
- 47:42Speaker 2: he did it anyway.
- 47:42Speaker 1: He knew that there was a high probability of going blind.
- 47:46Speaker 2: And a possibility of being blind forever. Yes.
- 47:49Speaker 1: And he was blind for like a couple of days
- 47:53Speaker 1: before it started getting sensing light again.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:59Speaker 1: He's, he's an amazing, amazing person.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I did a flight with the blue angels once. How
- 48:06Speaker 2: was that? It was amazing. Um, First of all, you
- 48:10Speaker 2: don't– you never think of, like, that being a physical thing,
- 48:14Speaker 2: that those guys have to be physically fit.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 48:17Speaker 2: When you go to– when we went to the base,
- 48:19Speaker 2: before you, you know, do the whole safety thing, they
- 48:23Speaker 2: explain everything, what you're going to have to do, you see, like,
- 48:26Speaker 2: that these guys are all fucking jacked. They're all, like, superheroes.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Yeah. It's because they have to– They're not the bigot.
- 48:33Speaker 2: They're compact. They're short like me. And they're all, like, thick.
- 48:36Speaker 2: They're all, like, fucking jacked dudes. Yeah. And they were like, well,
- 48:39Speaker 2: first of all, you don't want to be tall because
- 48:41Speaker 2: it's all about how much time it takes for the
- 48:44Speaker 2: blood to get from your heart to your brain. And
- 48:47Speaker 2: the shorter distance it has to travel, the better off
- 48:50Speaker 2: you are. And you have to be physically strong because
- 48:53Speaker 2: you do it. Have you ever done it? You ever
- 48:54Speaker 2: done a flight in a fighter jet?
- 48:57Speaker 1: No, but we did the Vomit Comet in Russia.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 49:00Speaker 1: But Steve-O went up in a MiG.
- 49:02Speaker 2: They do a thing called hookings. So what it is
- 49:05Speaker 2: is like you hold on to the joystick or there's
- 49:08Speaker 2: straps that strap your legs down as well. You know,
- 49:10Speaker 2: like you're really harnessed in. You hold on to your straps.
- 49:13Speaker 2: You go like this. And what you're literally doing is
- 49:17Speaker 2: forcing blood into your brain. because you feel consciousness closing
- 49:23Speaker 2: like an elevator door. It's like you feel the pressure,
- 49:26Speaker 2: like you're going black. You literally see it. You see
- 49:28Speaker 2: the darkness on the sides. And you're just trying to
- 49:33Speaker 2: keep the blood in your brain. We went seven and
- 49:36Speaker 2: a half Gs. But the guy in front of me,
- 49:39Speaker 2: while we're doing this, so you're taking this fucking hot,
- 49:41Speaker 2: you're like flying through these canyons. Like he was going
- 49:44Speaker 2: for it. Like he really took me on a ride.
- 49:46Speaker 2: It wasn't a safe ride. It was wild. We were
- 49:48Speaker 2: like a couple hundred feet off the ground, maybe, and
- 49:51Speaker 2: whipping through these canyons, taking these fucking hard turns. And
- 49:54Speaker 2: I heard him going, hoot, hoot, hoot. So I'm going, oh, fuck,
- 49:58Speaker 2: he's blacking out, too. I'm like, we're going hundreds of
- 50:02Speaker 2: miles an hour, just like 100 feet off the ground,
- 50:05Speaker 2: whipping through these canyons. This guy's about to fucking black out, too.
- 50:09Speaker 1: That's not what you want to hear.
- 50:10Speaker 2: It was terrifying. But also, like. Super educational. Like, you know,
- 50:15Speaker 2: you just see people flying around. You're like, oh, it's
- 50:17Speaker 2: probably like driving a car. No, it's unbelievably physically demanding.
- 50:22Speaker 2: And the Blue Angels, they don't use gravity suits, or
- 50:25Speaker 2: at least they didn't.
- 50:27Speaker 1: They don't use decompression suits?
- 50:29Speaker 2: No, no. It's just a regular flight suit.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Well, did they not go up to a certain, what
- 50:34Speaker 1: altitude were they? Well, it's just a jet.
- 50:36Speaker 2: It's a jet. It's not like you have to, like,
- 50:39Speaker 2: you're not in a spaceship. So the whole thing is
- 50:42Speaker 2: just about being able to stay conscious. And the thing
- 50:45Speaker 2: about the gravity suit is I guess somehow or another
- 50:47Speaker 2: it aids your ability to absorb all those Gs. I'm
- 50:51Speaker 2: not really educated about it, but I just do know
- 50:54Speaker 2: that he said there's ways that you wear suits that
- 50:57Speaker 2: make this easier, but they don't wear the suits. Yeah.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I think if you go up to a certain altitude,
- 51:02Speaker 1: you have to have that.
- 51:03Speaker 2: But this wasn't an altitude thing. Right, right. This was
- 51:05Speaker 2: just a G-force thing. It was just the hard turns.
- 51:09Speaker 2: It's like the wicked turns at hundreds of miles an hour.
- 51:12Speaker 2: And also just thinking about the tolerances of the aircraft
- 51:15Speaker 2: itself and the pressure that's on the hull. Because the
- 51:20Speaker 2: feeling of being in a jet going hundreds of miles
- 51:25Speaker 2: an hour and then hitting a hard turn. It's just
- 51:29Speaker 2: your whole body just like, fuck! Yeah.
- 51:32Speaker 1: And you're just along for the ride.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I mean, they're so skilled to be able to overcome
- 51:40Speaker 1: the forces.
- 51:41Speaker 2: He let me do some stuff. Like I got to
- 51:43Speaker 2: make the jet do a loop.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 51:46Speaker 2: I got to get it to roll over, to get
- 51:49Speaker 2: it to go upside down and go back over. Yeah,
- 51:51Speaker 2: he showed me how to do that. Wow.
- 51:53Speaker 1: And you were in control of it?
- 51:54Speaker 2: Well, I mean, he's there too in case I do
- 51:56Speaker 2: something really fucking stupid. I'm sure he has ultimate control,
- 51:59Speaker 2: but I have a joystick too. I was allowed to
- 52:02Speaker 2: do some stuff.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Do you think, I mean, they could give you a
- 52:06Speaker 1: joystick and it not be connected to anything, too, and
- 52:09Speaker 1: make you just feel good.
- 52:11Speaker 2: But it was connected.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:12Speaker 2: You could clearly tell while you're moving it. Right.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Oh, man, that's pretty scary.
- 52:16Speaker 2: It made you want to get one of those things. Like,
- 52:18Speaker 2: how dope would it be to have one of those?
- 52:20Speaker 1: Get one of those jets? Yeah.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Because you can get one of those. If you're like
- 52:25Speaker 2: a super rich guy.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you can get one, but you got to,
- 52:28Speaker 1: you know.
- 52:28Speaker 2: I mean, how much is a, because we looked this
- 52:31Speaker 2: up one day. You could buy like decommissioned fighter jets.
- 52:35Speaker 2: You know, they don't have any machine guns on them
- 52:36Speaker 2: or anything crazy, but you can get a decommissioned fighter
- 52:39Speaker 2: jet if you're like some fucking psychotic billionaire.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:42Speaker 2: And you got your own. Landing strip. You could get
- 52:45Speaker 2: a fucking fighter jet.
- 52:46Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Which is gnarly.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if you go to Russia, you
- 52:50Speaker 1: could probably get one fully loaded. $ 1, 500, dog.
- 52:52Speaker 2: $ 1, 500. $ 1. 5 million. A million. It's a million. Well, shit.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Look at this one. 395 grand. You get one. What's
- 53:06Speaker 2: like a really dope one? Let's like go make it price.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Five, four. What is that one? For five million bucks.
- 53:14Speaker 2: What do you get? In 1992, McDonnell Douglas Skyhawk.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I mean, for that price, you should get a couple
- 53:24Speaker 1: of rockets with it. Come on.
- 53:25Speaker 2: Well, I bet you could go to Russia and they'll
- 53:27Speaker 2: give you some rockets.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Oh, man. Yeah, we shot in Russia, and you can
- 53:30Speaker 1: literally do anything you want in Russia. They let me
- 53:33Speaker 1: get on a military base and shoot missiles out of
- 53:38Speaker 1: a cannon. What? Took Steve-O up in a mig.
- 53:43Speaker 2: This is back when we were friendly with Russia. Yeah.
- 53:46Speaker 2: This episode is brought to you by Athletic Brewing Company.

- 54:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it was like 2005, I think. And it was wild. Russia,
- 54:58Speaker 1: we had so much fun.
- 54:59Speaker 2: Do you ever look back on, like, how surreal, like,
- 55:05Speaker 2: your life has been and all these experiences?
- 55:08Speaker 1: I feel it a lot. Like, for example, in Russia,
- 55:13Speaker 1: because growing up, like, you would do those disaster drills
- 55:17Speaker 1: in school in case Russia dropped the bomb and, you know.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Run out behind your locker and put your head between
- 55:23Speaker 1: your legs like that would help if a bomb was dropped. Yeah.
- 55:27Speaker 1: But they were such the bad guy. And then it
- 55:29Speaker 1: was 2005. And I'm now I'm on.
- 55:34Speaker 2: It.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Been in movies and I'm over there. And that felt
- 55:37Speaker 1: very surreal to be in Russia and think about what's
- 55:42Speaker 1: happened to my life. There are moments like that, yeah.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Well, it was weird, too, because you got out of
- 55:49Speaker 2: it and became a movie star, but then you were
- 55:53Speaker 2: doing it again. Like, you were right back in.
- 55:56Speaker 1: And it kind of started in Russia, actually. We were
- 56:01Speaker 1: doing a bit... We'd done a few things over in Russia,
- 56:07Speaker 1: and we were doing something with the Russian Special Forces
- 56:10Speaker 1: where we were on a... we're going to run through this,
- 56:17Speaker 1: what do you call it, when there's dogs and.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Obstacle course?
- 56:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we're on obstacle course. And they had all these
- 56:24Speaker 1: things set up. I'm like, all right, well, I was like, Jeff,
- 56:28Speaker 1: why don't you have their attack dog attack me and
- 56:32Speaker 1: then shoot me with the rubber bullets and then have
- 56:37Speaker 1: the guy kick me in the face when I get
- 56:39Speaker 1: to the end. And... and we shot that, and the
- 56:47Speaker 1: dog attacked me, and the Russian guy, the special forces
- 56:51Speaker 1: guy said, I'm not going to kick you in the face.
- 56:53Speaker 1: But he did deliver a nice blow to my solar plexus.
- 56:58Speaker 1: I had to beg him to do it three times to, like,
- 57:02Speaker 1: you know, you got to, like, do it as hard
- 57:03Speaker 1: as you can. But Jeff pulled me aside and goes, look,
- 57:07Speaker 1: this was just for the TV show Wild Boys. I
- 57:10Speaker 1: would travel with them sometimes. He goes, if you're going
- 57:11Speaker 1: to go this hard for basic cables, Why don't we
- 57:15Speaker 1: do another movie? And I was.
- 57:18Speaker 2: Like, all right. How many movies have you guys done?
- 57:23Speaker 1: We've done four. And we just announced we're going to do,
- 57:29Speaker 1: I just announced we're going to do another, it was
- 57:32Speaker 1: going to be out June 26th.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Have you filmed it already?
- 57:35Speaker 1: No, we're going to, we're about to film it in February,
- 57:39Speaker 1: late February. So start then. Yeah.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Do you feel apprehension? Do you feel like, no?
- 57:47Speaker 1: No.
- 57:49Speaker 2: But you can't get a concussion.
- 57:50Speaker 1: No, I can't get any concussions, but, I mean, I
- 57:54Speaker 1: don't care if, like, I break my arm or leg.
- 57:56Speaker 1: No one cares about that.
- 57:58Speaker 2: You don't care about breaking your arm or your leg?
- 58:00Speaker 1: No. Really?
- 58:01Speaker 2: No. Really? No. So this is something. This is like
- 58:04Speaker 2: a feeling that you've developed this, I don't care. You
- 58:08Speaker 2: didn't have that when you first started doing it.
- 58:12Speaker 1: I guess there was probably some self-worth issues when I began.
- 58:17Speaker 1: It didn't come from a healthy place, Joe.
- 58:21Speaker 2: But it's not just that. It's like you don't have
- 58:23Speaker 2: a fear of being radically injured. Because if you blow
- 58:27Speaker 2: your knee out or you blow your leg out, you're
- 58:29Speaker 2: limping for the rest of your life.
- 58:32Speaker 1: I don't. It doesn't bother me, no.
- 58:35Speaker 2: God, I'm so averse to that shit.
- 58:38Speaker 1: It's like the... Producer side of me overrides the performer side.
- 58:43Speaker 1: It's like, hey, we're going to get footage. And it's
- 58:46Speaker 1: about as simple as that.
- 58:49Speaker 2: So you'll still do dangerous shit. You just don't want
- 58:53Speaker 2: to do anything dangerous.
- 58:54Speaker 1: I just can't get any concussions. I don't care about, yeah.
- 58:57Speaker 2: But if you're going to be in a violent situation
- 59:00Speaker 2: where you could break an arm or a leg, you
- 59:02Speaker 2: easily could get a concussion as well.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Well, you got to assess, Joe. Risk assessment?
- 59:08Speaker 2: Yeah. What the fuck does your waivers look like?
- 59:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. It was, you know, on the
- 59:18Speaker 1: first movie, they, we, the insurance companies insured it per bit.
- 59:24Speaker 1: They didn't insure the whole movie. They just insured it
- 59:26Speaker 1: per bit.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how they did with Fear Factor as well.
- 59:29Speaker 1: So some bits costs were the insurance was going to
- 59:33Speaker 1: be more than the whole first movie. So I can't
- 59:35Speaker 1: do those. But after that, we find a shady insurance
- 59:41Speaker 1: company and they take care of us.
- 59:43Speaker 2: Once you started acting though and doing big movies, wasn't
- 59:47Speaker 2: there any part of you was like, okay, I'm done
- 59:49Speaker 2: with this?
- 59:50Speaker 1: No, it's, it was, it's so fun. It's something that, uh,
- 59:56Speaker 1: I created with my friends.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Right. Right. Right. Right.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: And then there's probably my wires got crossed somehow. And
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: then I learned to like it. I look, I would
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: love it. You know, uh, I guess it's like, uh, comedian, uh,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: learning to love bombing. Right. Right.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: No one learns to love bombing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Really, I've talked to a couple comedians, and they're like,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: you've got to learn to love it. Basically, not fear it.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: And I kind of did that with stunts, I guess.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I learned to... I just liked it.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Wow. You ever talk to a shrink about that?
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Well, what I was.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: I.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Know I have a therapist and I'm like, okay, we
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: can talk about everything in my life, but not the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: part of me that does stunts.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Yeah. Because you don't want to fix that part. Because
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: I didn't want to unwind that, even though it went
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: sideways quite a few times.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: That's a wild statement. I didn't want to unwind that.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Yeah. So I've looked into it a little now that
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: I can't get any more concussions.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Don't crush my career.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Yeah, right. What a crazy job for the therapist. Yeah.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Like the one area where you really probably should address.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: You know what I mean? You have this like overall,
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: what is Johnny Knoxville? What's going on in his head?
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: And there's this one door. Yeah, you can't go in
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: that room.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we can't. The biggest problem we can't address. Yeah.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: It's kind of a crazy thing.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Again, I should have went to college.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Did you get annoyed having to answer all these questions
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: all the time about that kind of shit? Because after
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: a while, I would imagine that is the most common
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: thing that people would want to talk to you about.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: How many times have you been hurt? What happened? What
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: is it like?
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: No, I don't. I mean, again, I get the joke,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: what I would be doing if I wasn't doing this.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm grateful, and so if somebody wants to talk
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: about it, let's talk.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Well, you're obviously a smart guy. I don't buy that.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: You could do anything.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Well, when I started down this road, this was my
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: best guess. So, you know, it just became something I'm doing. And, yeah,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I guess I did want to write, but I incorporate
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: that into the movies.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: It was a very strange life, Johnny.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess, yeah.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: For sure.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I kind of created the environment that I grew
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: up in with my father. He owned a tire company,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: and he had all these crazy characters working for him,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: like people like Big George, Ass Kickin' Robert, this guy
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: SD's named Super Dick. One guy named WW Woodrow Wilson
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Boxcar Johnson Jr. He was the tire groover who was
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: always getting arrested for one thing or another. And he
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: was always pranking these people at work, his people that
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: work for him. He would stage gunfights at Christmas parties.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: What?
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: When he did this twice, he, one year at the
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Christmas party, he gave a couple of the guys, his
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: employees guns and said, okay, I want you guys to
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: get an argument. And I want to culminate with you
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: pulling out a gun and firing and you pulling out
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: your gun. They were blank guns. And everyone just, it
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: was in a pretty gnarly part of town too, but
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: everyone just ran out into the streets. Dad was ecstatic.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: So the next year, so the next year there are
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: two new employees and he's like, Hey, Hey, Merle, come
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: over here. You guys, you're going to get in a
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: fight and you're going to start yelling and you're going
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: to pull out of guns. And it's the same gag.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: So they did it and they were very excited and
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: they pull out the gun, started firing. But dad had
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: given everyone else in the party blank guns. So they
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: started firing back at those dudes. Those dudes take off
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: running down the street. So, yeah, just kind of imitating
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: what my father.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Did, I guess. Does your father feel any responsibility?
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Dad loved. but hated the parts where I would do stunts.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: My whole family did.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Of course.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: And, but they, you know, I just doing what I
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: saw growing up, he would send letters to his friends
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: from the VD clinic, rubber stamped on the envelope saying,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: you have to list your last 10 partners because you've
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: contracted a venereal disease, signed Dr. Harlan C.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Titmore.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: But people would get these letters or worse letters. The
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: guy's wife would get the letter. And the thing about
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: something like that, people become angry and emotional and then
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: they believe everything. That's the great thing about pranks. If
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: you can get someone so wound up that they're really emotional,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: they'll believe anything. So this guy would come home from
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: work and then the mother, like his wife would be there.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: The wife's mother would be there. He had a gun
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: pulled on him over that once.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: A real gun.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, real guns.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Your dad sounds like a fucking maniac.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: He would send letters out from the IRS telling people
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: they're going to be audited. He got visited by the
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Tennessee Bureau of Investigation over that. He didn't do that anymore.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Well, that makes more sense now. Okay, so you grew
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: up in a very unusual environment.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: Very unusual. How did your dad get started doing shit
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: like that?
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: I don't know. He just had that personality. He was
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: such a shit starter. He should have been in show
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: business is what should have been, but he used to not.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Did you ever think about using him?
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: He was in one episode when we were doing the
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: TV show. My mom and him were in the episode.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: But he wrote a couple of bits for Jack. He
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: was like, hey, I want you to do this. And
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: we filmed a couple. So he loved that. So, yeah, he,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I don't know. He didn't know how to go about
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: being in show business. Neither did I either.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: But it seems like he was doing his own, almost
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: like a local play. He was doing his own version
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: of it for himself. Yeah.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Oh, for sure. Just to entertain himself.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: I guess you could do that when you're the boss. Yeah.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: In high school, I'd be laying on the couch. I
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: took a nap. You know, I was like a junior, senior, whatever.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: And I felt something go through my lips. And he
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: went and got a hot dog and microwaved it until
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: it was lukewarm and drugged the hot dog through my lips.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: And then when I woke up, he acted like he
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: was zipping his pants. He thought, and just him laughing
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: at his own joke just made everything. He thought it
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: was the funniest thing. And then, like, you're on board, too.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: He was a character.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Well, that makes more sense now.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Because I'm like, how does a normal guy dive into
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: something like Jackass? That makes more sense now.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: You were sort of indoctrinated at an early age. Very early.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Some of the shit that made me the most uncomfortable
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: was the wild boy stuff. Like Steve-O showed me a
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: video of him when he climbed a tree and the
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: lions came up the tree and took his hat.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Which is disrespectful if you think about it. Just take
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: his hat? Fortunate.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Because if they didn't have the hat, they might have
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: just grabbed his whole head and just dragged him off.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: You know? I mean, those were actual lions.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Yeah, no.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: They weren't pet lions.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: You're entering into a situation that's unpredictable and kind of
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: hoping for the best. Is what you're doing.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: And they didn't have any backup plan. I mean, when
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: you're in a tree and the lions go up the
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: tree to get you, there's nothing really anybody could do
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: to help you. If it gets a hold of you,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: you're dead.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: There's nothing. Here's an example of the backup plans we have.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Steve-O's filming a bit with an alligator on Jackass, and
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: our safety guy, Manny Puig, who dives in swamps at
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: night with the miner's light to pull alligators up to
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: the surface and crocodiles. He's Tarzan. He's Tarzan. He was
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: our safety guy. And it's like, okay, if this goes south,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: what do we do? Manny goes, okay, we're going to
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: be doing this stunt with the alligator. And if the
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: alligator grabs a hold of Steve-O and bites him, hopefully
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: he will let go. And that was it. That was
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: the whole plan.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: There's no, like, poke him in the eyes. If the gator.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Doesn't want to let go, he's not going to let go. So.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: Fuck, dude. Yeah. Yeah. The wild animals ones are the nuttiest.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: One of the ones where you guys are playing keep
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: away with hyenas. I keep laughing.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: They have the strong, like one of the strongest jaw,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: the bite in the animal kingdom, maybe like third or fourth.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: There's, what are you going to do? There's nothing you
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: can do. Just hope for the best.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Yeah. And they have instincts. Like if you twist your
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: ankle and they see you limping.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah. I was doing a thing with, we were
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: in Argentina at this zoo and We were like, hey,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: can I get in with the lions? Because there was
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: a couple of keepers in there with it. And they're like, yeah,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: come on in. And they're like, but whatever you do,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: don't trip and fall. I'm like, oh, shit. And so
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I got on a bike and started riding around the pen.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: And they're like, if we give you a signal, you
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: got to. And so I'm riding around the pen.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Get out. Get off.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Get up.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Because the lion locked in on me and was about
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: to attack me. And they hurried me out of the pen.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: And afterwards, they're like, yeah, that was the first time anyone,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: aside from us, has been in the pen with them.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: And it's also mating season, so he's very aggressive. I'm like, well,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I wish you'd have told me that before I got
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: in there. Well, I still would have went in there.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: But it was a real half-ass type of situation.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: It's just like you guys just have avoided death over
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: and over and over again.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Yeah we've been lucky.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: But like that's a fucked up way to go through
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: life I guess but we had a ball waxing philosophically
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: I don't know man.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: It just that's what we were doing and.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: For sure you entertained the fuck out of millions and
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: millions of people who laughed their asses off and had
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: a great fucking time watching I get I don't know why,
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: but I get anxiety. I have a really hard time
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: watching those things. I avoid them. A lot of my
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: friends are like, we're going to see Jackass. I'm like,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: I don't, I can't. I get freaked out. I don't
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: want anybody to get hurt. It's weird.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel that way when one of the guys
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: is doing something pretty gnarly. I'm not ecstatic over watching
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: something that could have a forever consequence. But with me,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm just like, let's go. I just, it's,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: I just, it's fun.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I know, but even after you have a family and
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: even after, you know, you have kids that are watching
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: their dad get fucked up.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. I wouldn't, I didn't want my
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: kids to see that, you know.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: But they had to see it.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: At a certain age. Like, I didn't let my oldest daughter,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: she could watch things with Wee Man or this or
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: that and, But I didn't let her come to a
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: movie until she was 14. I made her sit right
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: next to me. And I said, Madison, there are some
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: times you have to close your eyes, sometimes cover your ears,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: and sometimes both. And I had the list of bits.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: And so it was, I censored it even then. But
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: now it's the internet. It's a fucking free-for-all.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: So I guess my younger kids, I think, you know,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: they saw it a little earlier. I only showed my
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: son like a year ago and my daughter six months ago.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: What was his reaction?
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: That he was on board. My youngest daughter, she thought
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: a lot of things were funny, but I don't know.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I guess I don't know what, how she felt. Cause
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: they only, my youngest only saw the first Jackass movie,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: which is pretty tame compared to the others looking back.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: It's pretty innocent. Even though Ryan Dunst shoved a, car
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: up his ass to get an x-ray, a little toy car.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: Did you see that bit?
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that one worked.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Do you worry that they're going to fall on your footsteps? No. No?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Well, I have daughters and they're just naturally more bright.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: You know? And my son, like, he would joke about it, like,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: To his mom that he's going– but he's not going to.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: He's bright too. They have options. I had– I didn't
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: see a lot of options for myself.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: It's weird that you said that like your daughters are
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: bright because girls are definitely more risk-averse and like ridiculous
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: situations like that.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Think things through.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: If it– I have a way harder time watching girls
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: get hurt. Yeah.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I don't– we had a girl on
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: the show. She like broke her lower back. She was
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: doing a thing. We're doing a– just a– it was
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: a pretty tame stunt compared to the ones we do.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: She was going down like it was grass, but it
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: was like a big hill on like some kind of
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: rubber raft. And she had her love mic at the
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: lower on her lower back. And she came off and
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: that was the impact area. And for the longest and
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: it really was a bummer for everybody, you know, and
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't. I didn't have. We didn't have
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: a female cast member for a long time.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: What was the extent of her injury?
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: She was in the hospital for a little bit. She's
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: fine now. I just saw her at the jackass art
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: show in November, and she's fine. But it sucked.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: You had a jackass art show? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Because it was our 25th anniversary last year, and I'm like,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: let's have an art show. We have some cast members
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: and crew members who are good artists, and I'm like,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: let's reach out to some.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Big artists to see if they'll do it. And, and
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: we did, it's the first time I ever curated an
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: art show. And, uh, I, I, you know, I even,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I was like, oh fuck, I'm going to reach out
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: to Damien Hurst to see if he'll do it. And
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: he ended up doing 10 pieces of art for it.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: It was, I was like, wow. You know, I was
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: really blown away by the good vibes and, uh, that
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: we got from everyone over it.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Yeah, because you guys didn't just create a show. You, you,
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: you know, you created like a chapter in modern pop
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: culture history. Really? Because it became one of the most
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: entertaining things ever and one of the most ridiculous things ever. Wow.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's tough to.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: I never... really walk down those roads. Uh, yeah, I don't, I,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I appreciate you saying that though, but it's, it's,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: it's odd, you know, to entertain that.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: Thought of it.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: And especially if you see being Tremaine sitting around writing ideas,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you're like these two idiots did that. Like if you
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: could see how we shoot, it's just you, it's amazing.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: We get any footage at all, Joe. Um, Jeff Ross
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: came out with this on Jackass No. 2. We were
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: doing some bit and some prank with me and Spike
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: as old people. Me and Spike, we would hit bus
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: stops and anywhere where there's people. But we would jump
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: out and start doing pranks before the cameras even arrived.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: And it was driving Jeff insane. He's like, you guys
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: shoot a movie like it's a pickup basketball game. And
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: he just roasted us for about five minutes straight. And
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: it was all accurate. It's amazing we get any footage.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's the spirit of it is that you're
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: doing it for fun. So you would be doing it
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: if the cameras were on or not. You're doing it
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: for yourselves as much as you're doing it for the camera. Oh,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: for sure.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Which is why it's so good.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: I don't know how to make, like, other people laugh, right?
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: If I'm writing a bit, I don't—that would freeze me.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: But I know how to make my friends laugh. And
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: if they're laughing, I think, eh, we may have something.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: And that's the only bellwether. Like, if you do something,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: like in the magic trick with the bull, we did
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: that twice, because— the first time, the first bull just
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: came and didn't really knock me up in the air.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: He just got me on the ground and just started
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: plowing me, stomping me. And I got up and everyone
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: was looking at me like, eh.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: I'm like, all right.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: And I looked at Jeff and he's like, I'm like,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: all right, bring the other bull in. That sucks. Take
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: two with bulls always sucks. You're hoping you get that
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: first one.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Oh, God. The things with the animals are the ones
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: I think that freak me out the most. So Wild
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Boys was the hardest one for me to watch. I
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: really struggled with that show.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Yeah. The one that Jeff and I got in a
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: half argument over, I was in– Arkansas shooting the riot
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: control test. I, me, Bam and Dunn were standing in
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: front of the riot control shoots like 10,000 hard rubber
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: beads at you. We're shooting that. And they were in
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: new Orleans about to go out and put a hook
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: through Steve-O's jaw, chum up the waters and cast them
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: out to the water with sharks. I'm like, what, what, uh,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: what are we doing, Jeff? What's what, what, What's the
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: best possible outcome here? He's like, oh, no, no, it's fine.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: It's fine. I'm like, you were going to get his
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: foot bit off. It's fine. And it ended up being fine.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: But I was questioning the bit. And it's a great bit.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: The shark goes to bite his foot and Steve-O kicks
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: him at the last second and scares the shark away. Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: It was just dumb luck.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: And he had a hook through his mouth.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it was like a big.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Oh, you're not going to... Look at that. Oh, my God.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: It took him like 15 minutes to get that hook
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: through his mouth. And the thing about it, they shot
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: it the day before and it didn't go good. So
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: there's a hole on the other side of his jaw, too.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: You just can't see it.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: This is so fucking stupid.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Thank you.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: Oh, my God, dude.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: Yes, he's in. Oh, yeah, it was going for him.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: And then he kicks it and got him back in.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: That would have been bad. That would have been forever bad. Oh,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: peg leg, Steve-O.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: And he's like mentoring young guys that are doing it, too.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Like last time he was on your show. Yeah, let
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: me show you this one guy that I'm hanging out with. Yeah, dude.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: He's got this guy's running through barbed wire. I'm like,
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: what the fuck? This guy's radical. He's covering himself with firecrackers.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: I'm like, no.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Oh, I know. That's Zach. We got him in the cast. Yeah,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: he's pretty up for it.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: How bad is he fucked up?
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, have you seen? He was doing some
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: trick on a skateboard, and he was a rather Rubenesque
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: young fellow, and he just compound fractured his ankle. I
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: don't think you would like that one at all.
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: Popped through the skin, the whole deal?
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: I'm not sure it popped through the skin, but it
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: was doing things that ankles shouldn't do.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: What a weird life you've lived, dude. Yeah. Very strange.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: It's been okay.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I mean, look, you're fine. Yeah, no, it's odd.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: I get it. I get it.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: What are you laughing at, Jamie? I just saw the
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: injury here. Let me see. Okay, here he goes. And....
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: I guess that was more his shin.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: Oh, that's his tibia and his fib. Oh, yeah, tib fib. Yeah,
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: that's the Conor McGregor right there.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: The Joe Theismann.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the Anderson Silva. I've seen a few of those.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: Those are the most painful things I've ever seen in
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: UFC fights. The things that really bother me are the
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: leg breaks. When someone throws a kick and the kick
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: gets checked and you see their leg like wrap around
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: the shin.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: The Anderson Silva one was very disturbing.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Oh, that was hard. It's crazy. Like it's only happened
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: four times in the history of MMA or in the
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: history of the UFC. And two of them involve Chris Weidman. One,
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: Chris Weidman did it to Anderson Silva where Anderson Silva
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: broke his leg. And then Chris Weidman broke his leg
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: in the exact same way against Uriah Hall.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know if I saw the one against
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: Uriah Hall.
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: Uriah Hall was so loud. Because what he did was,
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: it was the first kick he threw. It was the
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: first round of the fight. He threw a full power
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: low kick. And Uriah checked it. And you hear it
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: just snap. Do the headphones work? Can we hear it?
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: They're still fucked? Good.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: Good.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: You don't need to hear it. But here it is,
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: full power, crack. Oh! Whoa, whoa. And then he puts
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: his foot down.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: That doesn't look real.
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he was never the same again.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't come back from that, right?
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: No. I mean, guys, they don't really come back. You know,
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Conor McGregor hasn't fought again since. I mean, he's throwing
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: kicks with it. I've seen him spar with it. I mean,
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: there's one guy who is a heavyweight in the PFL.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: that apparently came back and continued his career after he–
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: so you can find who that guy is. He's a
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: heavyweight guy who was in the PFL that snapped his
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: shin like that and then came back and kept fighting.
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: Weidman's had some fights since then, and he's actually even
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: thrown that kick since then. Yeah, but I don't think
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: you're the same.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that would mentally get to you.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: Well, one leg now weighs more. Right. Right. Even if
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: it's titanium, there's there's more screws. There's a bunch of
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: shit in there. And then I've got to think that
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: it feels different. There's no way. And then there's the
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: psychological thing like you've already been through. I mean, I
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: think Chris had to go through some insane amount of surgeries,
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: multiple surgeries to try to correct it and to fix
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: it because it didn't take right. The first time was,
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: you know, you're. You're hoping the bones grow back together.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: You've got a rod and then screws, and then you're
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: hoping the bone fuses all around it. And in some circumstances,
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: they have to make a decision whether or not they
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: go back in another time and take all the supporting
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: stuff out and just have your bone exist normally. Yeah.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: And then it's like the risk of infection.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. It's fucking gnarly.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I have the hardest time. But I have a
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: harder time watching women get fucked up than I do men.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: You know, maybe it's the sexist in me or whatever
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: The UFC fights with women, they go for it. I mean,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: the men go for it, but it just seems like
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: the women are just extra aggressive.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: Well, it just seems crazier when they're doing it, when
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: they're beating the fuck out of each other for whatever reason. Like,
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: there's a fight that happened at the UFC Sphere when
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: they did it at the Sphere in Vegas. We had
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: one event there. And there's this lady, Arani Aldana, who's
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: a beast. And she got a cut in her forehead
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: that I can't believe the referee didn't stop the fight
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: because it looked like someone hit her in the face
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: with an ax. Like her entire forehead was split wide open.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: Blood was pouring out of her face. And she's just,
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: that's it right there. Look at that.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: And she's marching forward, throwing bombs where blood is like splattering.
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: Like blood splattering with every punch that lands on her face.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: And she's moving forward, throwing bombs. It was fucking crazy. Yeah,
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: she's a warrior. Oh, my God. I mean, that's the
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: beginning of the cut. The cut got even worse than that.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: It was horrible at the end. I mean, it was
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: fucking massive. It had to be like a. six-inch cut
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: on her forehead.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: That's insane.
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: Well, you could, like, see the whole skull. Yeah. Like,
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: when I was interviewing her, when I was talking to
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: her after the fight, you could see her whole skull was, like, exposed.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I... You know, when we're talking about the last
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Doing Jackass Forever, we're talking about getting new cast members
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: and talking about... bringing on some females. Look how crazy
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: that is. And I was a little, that's insane.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Insane.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: That's insane. And I was a little hesitant. And then
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: my assistant, Megan, and I'm talking to other, they're like, look,
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: guys do it. It's like women can do it. And
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: I was forced to address it and let go of it.
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: And I'm like, all right.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Who was saying guys do it, women can do it?
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Was it a guy or a girl?
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: No, my assistant Megan. And a couple of other friends, women,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and they're just like, you've got to stop looking at
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: it that way. And I said, all right. And I
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: just moved forward, and we got Rachel Wolfson, and she
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: was fantastic.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: I love Rachel. She's at the club all the time.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: She's the best. She's fun.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: She's a cool chick.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: Yeah, she's great.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Is there a photo of a Randy Aldona's face now?
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: See what it looks like when it's all healed up?
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: It bothers me, man. I don't know why.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Did she... How many... That's not real.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: That's a filter. That's an Instagram filter, dog. There's no way.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: That's an avatar.
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: That's what she looks like now? After the scar?
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: No.
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: That's not possible.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: That's an avatar, right?
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: Well... it's not possible that that went away. See, Google
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: or run a search of Rainey Aldana after the surgery.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: That's like two weeks ago. Yeah, but that's all.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Well, there's makeup. I don't know.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Makeup and filter. That's what she looks like. Okay, there
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: you go.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: You can see. Go back there. So, again, you can
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: kind of see in the beginning. Yeah, yeah, when the
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: light hits it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: You can see it right there. Yeah. Wow.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: That looks pretty good. I mean, you can see it,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: but it gives her character.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: Well, for a man, for a man, that's pretty dope, right?
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: I don't know. Badass.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: It looks like she's pretty okay with everything.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: She's a beast.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: You know? It's an unusual woman that is not just
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: willing to do that and get her face cut open
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: like that, but also, like, March forward in a mask
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: of blood like a fucking horror movie throwing bombs. And
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: she was cut over her eye. Her nose was split open.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: Giant cash on her forehead and just marching forward.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: So they did. And she was fighting.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: Who is she fighting?
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: And did they have a rematch? Because I assume the judge,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: the referee called it.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: No, no. It went the decision. Yeah, she lost the decision.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: The doctor, they go over to the doctor.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: He looks at her.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: He's like, ah, you'll never notice on a galloping horse.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: Get back in there.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know what the referee was
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: thinking because referees have stopped fights for less injuries.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: It's very subjective.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: Usually when it goes from your eyebrow to the top
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: of your skull.
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: It's very subjective. Like one referee or one doctor will
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: say let it go, and then another doctor will go
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: it's over. And if the doctor says it's over, it's over.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: But a referee inspected it when it split up her head.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. They wiped it down. They allowed her to continue. Yeah.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: She got cut.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Who is that referee who looked at it and said, yeah,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: you're fine. Get back in there, kid.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: See if you can find video of it while it's happening.
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: Look at her nose.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: The nose would have stopped the fight.
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: Nose is destroyed. Forehead's destroyed. I don't remember what she
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: got hit with. Most likely an elbow that did that.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: Who is she fighting? Norma Dumont. Norma Dumont. Norma Dumont's
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: a beast too.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: And who won?
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: Norma did. Norma won. But what did she, like see
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: if you can find a video of it. The video
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: of it is gnarly. Because like, and we're freaking out
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: because we're doing the commentary. I'm like, oh my God,
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: this lady is a savage.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: What round did that happen in?
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: That's a good question. I want to say it was
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: the second.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: Round, but I don't totally recall.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: Oh my God. What did you just have? You just
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: had it.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: It's a video game.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Oh, it's a video game. The video games are so good.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: You can't tell the difference now. That's the problem.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: The fight in the video game.
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's... But again, it's... I don't know why. It's
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: like when a woman gets knocked out, it bugs me
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: way more. Yeah. I'm so used to guys getting knocked out.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: When a guy gets knocked out, I'm like, I hope
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: he's okay. But when a woman gets knocked out, it's
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: like my stomach turns. I'm like... I just... You're sitting
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: there in your commentary chair. You're just like, oh, fuck, man.
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: When someone gets shinned in the head, just bang. And
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: you see them stiffen up. There's something about a woman
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: getting knocked out that I don't know why.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: My brain is like, no.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: I'm so used to men getting knocked out. Yeah.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it looks like you've seen a lot
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: of fights.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: I've probably seen... more people get the fuck beaten out
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: of them than anybody who's ever lived.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: In person? Like, in person, watching elite fighters smash each other,
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: I've probably seen more people get pummeled than anybody.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder the number of knockouts you've seen.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: Oh, it has to be in the thousands. I don't know.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know how many fights I've called.
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: I've started doing commentary. Well, I started doing post-fight interviews
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: in 1997. Wow. Yeah, so that was the first. I
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: worked at UFC 12. In 1997. Now we're at UFC 324.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: And I've been there for a large percentage of them.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: I hate to pivot, but what do you think of Fedor?
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: I love him. I love him. He's one of the
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: all-time greats. He was one of my favorite fighters of
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: all time. The great tragedy is Fedor never fought in
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: the UFC against Cain Velasquez. Because they were both in
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: their prime at the exact same time. And they could
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: have made that happen.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: I love Fedor.
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: Oh, he was amazing.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Like the Pride fights, Tremaine and I, every time the
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Pride fights were on, we'd always watch Fedor.
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: And dude, he was stoic. I mean, stoic. Like dead face,
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: no matter what was going on. It could be the
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: most chaotic, insane fight. Getting blasted in the face. Never
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: changed his expression like a fucking robot.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: Before the fight, all the fighters are jumping up and down,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: looking around. And he looks like he's about to fall asleep.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, he was amazing. His mindset was fucking impenetrable.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: You remember when Kevin Randleman suplexed him?
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. On his head.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: I've never seen someone get suplexed on their head and
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: not only push through it, but he submitted him pretty
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: soon afterwards, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: He got him in an armbar, like, very shortly after that.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: That still doesn't make any sense to me.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: Oh, he was a freak. He was a freak, man.
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: Look at his face. Look how calm he looks. Yeah.
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: Here it is. So he gets slammed.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: And just rolls, just rolls right into it. I mean,
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: that could have knocked most people completely unconscious, could have
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: separated your vertebrae.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: And look, he's still, look how strong.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: And he reversed the position like seconds later.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: And Randleman was good on the ground.
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: Oh, fuck yeah. Randleman was a world-class wrestler.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: But look at that.
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: And a beast. But Fedor was special, man. He was special.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: And this is like Randleman's wearing wrestling shoes, too. He
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: was allowed to wear wrestling shoes. Pride had a lot
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: of crazy rules.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: That left of Fedor's.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: Oh, everything, man. Everything. He was the most complete. So
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: he pins down the arm and he eventually catches him.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: I think he caught him in a Kimura. A Kimura
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: or a straight arm lock. Yeah, here it is. He
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: caught him in a Kimura. Here it is.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I mean, that's insane. Within a minute, he turned it around.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Well, he was the most complete out of all those
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: guys because he was a guy that could fight you
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: standing up at an elite level, but also in any
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: kind of wild scramble. He would catch an armbar off
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: of his back. He would submit you on the ground.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: He could throw you. He could do everything. He was
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: the most complete out of all the heavyweights of his era.
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember when he was fighting Nogueira, I was like, oh, no,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: this is– it could go south for Fedor.
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: You thought so?
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I was worried.
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: You know, because you look up to a fighter and
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: you're like, he can't lose. I don't want him to lose.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: And I was worried about Noguera, but he beat him twice, right?
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and they were brutal. The ground and pounds were
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: fucking brutal. When he was on top of Noguera just
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: bombing on him.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like, Fedor, don't go to the ground with Noguera.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: Because I'm just worried. I'm like his aunt or something.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: But he, no problem.
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: No, he was awesome. You know, but there's a time where...
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: a fighter can operate under that peak form and it's
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: a short window, you know, and I always say when
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: you're looking at the greatest of all time, you have
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: to look at them in that peak window. You can't
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: look at them when they're fighting in their late thirties
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: and they probably shouldn't be fighting anymore. You gotta, you
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: gotta judge them based on who they were in their
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: prime because every combat sport athlete has a limited amount
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: of time where they can operate in their prime.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: And Fedor in his prime was about as good as
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: anybody who ever lived.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: I love hearing you say that. Yeah, he was fucking amazing.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Fucking amazing.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: But it's like when we had Kane in the UFC,
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: Kane Velasquez, who was another superhuman freak, also super stoic,
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: and had cardio like no heavyweight ever. Like freakish, God-given cardio.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: And they'd call him Cardio Kane because he would just
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: put a pace on guys. Well, you'd see the look
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: on their face, and it was like the second round.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: They're like, I can't do this. Yeah, and he's just
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: ready to go. Just not even out of breath, just
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: smashing you over and over and over again, picking you up,
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: slamming you down. Like what he did to Brock Lesnar.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: Brock Lesnar was fucking terrifying. He was a 300-pound man
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: who was built like a Viking. Like he just hopped
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: off of a fucking ship with a battle axe, and
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: Kane beat the fuck out of him.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: I know. That was an amazing fight, and I– watch
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: Brock Lesnar body slam Wee Man through a table at
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: a restaurant one night. It was one of the best things.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: Was that on Jackass? No, no.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: We were there to do, I was going to do WrestleMania.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: I believe it was WrestleMania against that low down and
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: dirty Sami Zayn. And we're at the restaurant. I think
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: we're at a Four Seasons in their restaurant. And We
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: all had a couple of drinks and Brock just comes by.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: He's leaving.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: He comes by to say goodbye, you know, and Wee
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: Man gets a little chatty. Wee Man got a mouth
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: on him. So Brock just scoops him up like a baby.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: He goes, you're going through that table and just lifts
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: him up over his head and bam, right through the table.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: It was one of the best things I've ever seen.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: Just awesome. It looked like one of those tables in
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: an Old West bar fight.
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: Yeah, this is it.
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: He's like, no, we miss.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: Like, no, no.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Oh, Jesus Christ.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: That's a regular table too oh yeah.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: Oh that's what you get for talking shit to brock
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: lesnar it doesn't really compute in his head i don't
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: think Brock.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Is a guy that, like, you know, he was NCAA
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: Division I national champion, like, elite wrestler. I always wondered
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: what would have happened with him if he didn't go
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: into pro wrestling for so long, if he just went
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: into MMA right out of his college career. I think
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: he could have been one of the all-time.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Greats, too. Yeah, what are you going to do with
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: that guy if he's been training for that long?
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: Well, he didn't train much in striking at all. Like,
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: you could tell in the early days his striking was,
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: you know, he was learning it. obviously an elite athlete,
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: a freak of nature physically, but he was still learning striking,
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: and striking is something that takes a long time to
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: really get a mastery of. Oh, yeah. He wasn't, you know,
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: so he, it was just, and he didn't need the money,
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: didn't need to do it, was already a giant pro
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: wrestling star, could have just stayed Brock Lesnar, but just decided,
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: I want to see what would happen if I fight
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: for real.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: He liked it.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: He beat a lot of really fucking good guys. Yeah.
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: Which is kind of crazy. I mean, he beat Randy Couture,
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: who's an all-time great. Yeah. He beat Frank Mir, who's,
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: you know, an all-time great.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: He's a freak athlete, you know?
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: Oh, he's fucking horrific. Horrific dude.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Who's the young guy? Gable Stevenson?
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: I think he's a problem. Ooh, he's a giant problem.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: His striking looks good. His striking looks good.
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: He's a giant problem because he's a 250-pound man that
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: moves like a 150-pound man. He's so fucking fast and
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: so athletic for a big guy and elite wrestling skills.
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: I mean... gold medalist in the Olympics of wrestling skills.
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: That kind of wrestling skill is like so hard to
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: fuck with.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: He's got that and ridiculous power and speed in his hands.
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: And just this, there's a mindset that like some guys have,
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: like elite athletes have this like unstoppable drive and discipline.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: And he's got that. And like, he's going to be,
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: I sent Dana White a text message because he had
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: an MMA fight. and hit this dude with a left hook,
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: and then as the dude's going out, he fucking slams
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: him to the ground. He landed the punch, and he
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: had enough speed to close the distance and fucking slam
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: him to the ground while he's unconscious from the punch.
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: And I sent Dana White a text message. I said,
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: everybody's fucked. I just sent him that clip.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I sent Dana the same clip.
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: Did you really?
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: Dana, what are we doing here?
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: Gable's the first guy that I've ever had in the
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: studio that isn't even in the UFC yet, that has
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: had a couple fights where I was like, I want
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: to have this guy on right away. Look at that.
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: That speed is so insane. Look at the transition between
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: he KOs him with a left hook, and then look
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: at this, just hops to the top of the octagon.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: But go back to the knockout because look at the
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: guy when he's on. You can see the birdies flying
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: around his head in that one angle on the opposite angle.
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: I mean, that is crazy speed. And then blast him
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: with a punch all before the referee can even get
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: to him. That dude's like, what the fuck just happened? Yeah.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: He has a hard time getting fights. He'll probably be
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: in the UFC quicker than he should be. Because no
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: one wants to fight him. It's on the regional circuit,
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: the smaller promotions, very difficult to get a guy like
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: that to fight because you can't beat him. You know
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: you can't. So you've got to be the type of
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: guy almost like you are with stunts. Like, all right,
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: let's fucking do it. Let's see what happens.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: That's what you need.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Because you're not fast enough to avoid the punches. You're
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: not skillful enough to stop the takedown. You can't do
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: anything about it once he's on top of you. You're
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: not getting back up. You're just going to get pummeled. Like,
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: what are you going to do? And some guys are
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: just so gangster. They're like, let's see how I do.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: You're just standing in front of a cold tree.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: But most guys are going to not fight. You're going
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: to get that offer and you're going to go, fuck that.
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: I want to be a world-class fighter someday. I got
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: to get better. There's no way I'm going to get better.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: If I fight that guy and I realize how tall
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: the mountain actually is that I'm supposed to climb.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: But to any prospective fighters of Gable Stevenson out there
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: who maybe don't want to fight them, take it from me.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: It doesn't take that long to get knocked out. It's
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: going to be an easy night. You know, it's going to, what,
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: 15 seconds of your time?
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: That's not the problem. The problem is, so like in boxing, okay,
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: this is a good example. So boxing has always traditionally
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: done a way better job of preparing fighters for world-class fighters.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: So even Mike Tyson, who is a phenom. In his prime,
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: he fought a bunch of journeymen in the beginning.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Mitch Blood Green.
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: Well, he was good. Mitch Blood Green was good. Mitch
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: Blood Green went to decision.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: I mean, he was a gang leader and he was
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: a crazy person. No, in the street fight, Mike fucked
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: him up. But he also broke his hand in the
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: street fight in a haberdashery in Harlem. Which is crazy.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: Slipped into the alliteration. Yeah.
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: I mean, they fought in a haberdashery. They fought in
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: a place where you get custom suits made.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: And why wouldn't you?
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: Why wouldn't you? So that fight was like Mitch Bloodgreen
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: was a real pro. He was a real elite fighter.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: But you go to the early days of Mike Tyson
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: where he's fighting guys that have fucking zero business being
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: in there with him. And these guys just took the
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: payday and just got knocked into orbit. And those fights
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: are some of the most fun fights to watch because
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: you realize you're dealing with a guy who's going to
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: be one of the all-time greats. And you're getting to
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: see him when he's 19. And no one had any
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: idea what was coming. You know, like some of his
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: first fights, people had heard rumblings. There's this kid out
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: of the Catskills. Everybody talked about it. But until you
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: saw him, you're just like, oh, God. Good Lord.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Just all business, too.
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: All business. No socks.
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: Just the towel with the hole in it. And it just,
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: it was throwback. Yeah, but there was never a throwback
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: fighter that had just a towel over his head walking
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: into the ring.
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: Well, you'd have to go back to the Jack Dempsey days,
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: which Tyson did. See, Tyson had this advantage that his
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: manager was Jim Jacobs, and Jim Jacobs was a boxing historian.
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: And so Jim Jacobs had all these films of all
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: the old school fighters, Sandy Sadler, Willie Pepp. Yeah, he's
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: a big, yeah. And so Mike would just sit and
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: watch all these great fighters, all the old school guys,
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: all the old Joe Louis fights on film, all the
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: Sugar Ray Robinson fights.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Which there are not a lot on film. I wish
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: there were because we never have prime Sugar Ray Robinson.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: Like there's not a lot of films.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: Well, you can watch them on YouTube.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: But I don't think like prime, prime. I think after
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: a certain– Oh, no.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: There's some prime Sugar Ray Robinson fights. Yeah, you could
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: watch some great Sugar Ray Robinson KOs that are on.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: He was another guy. I mean, I think he had
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: like 90 fights. I think it was something like 90
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: and 0 before he had his first loss.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: And then he went another 40 fights before he lost
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: the second.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: Insane.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: Crazy. And they were fighting all the time back then.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Those guys would fight multiple times in a year. It
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: wasn't like today. Where, you know, guys like Canelo and Crawford,
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: they talk about it. Crawford hadn't had a fight in
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: like a year and a half.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: It wasn't like that back then.
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: They fight a few times a month.
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: Constantly.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: But also, you know, then the end is so sad
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: because in the end, Sugar Ray Robinson had dementia and
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: it's like he couldn't talk. There's some interviews of him
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: later in life that are really, really fucking sad. Yeah.
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: So that's the thing about a guy fighting Gableson, Gable Stevenson.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: It's not that Gable's going to beat you and getting
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: knocked out's not that bad. It's that your confidence is
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: going to be destroyed, and you will get knocked out
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: easier next time, which is the problem with getting knocked out.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: Yeah, the glass.
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I can attest to that. Is it happening
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: to you now? Like, will you get KO'd easier? I
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: get my knockouts. I got knocked out easier, yeah. It's
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: the old glass jaw. You notice the difference? Yeah, I mean,
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: I could watch the impacts... Afterwards, and that might not
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: have got me five or six years ago, but now
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: it's just— You just go out?
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: Yeah. How many times do you think you've been KO'd?
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: About 16.
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: And— That's a lot. Yeah.
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: Have you ever gotten, like, brain scans done?
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: What do they say?
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: Well, you know, they're not the best brain scans they
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: ever looked at. I didn't win any awards for my
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: brain scan, Joe. They're like, don't get any more concussions.
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: But did they say there's anything going on there that
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: you need to be concerned about?
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: Well, they don't know about– you can't detect CTE until post-mortem. Right.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: But do you have any lingering issues like memory issues,
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: impulse control?
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: The– I can– well, I don't know whether it's I'm
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: getting older or– I can remember a lot of like
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: things from four years– like from my childhood and that
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: kind of thing. I have complete recall. But what I
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: did a week ago, you know, it's up in the air.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: And do you think that's connected to the head injuries?
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: or is it just like aging because as you get older.
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: Well there's the million dollar question right but you seem
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: okay yeah which is part of the problem like I
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: know a lot of fighters that seem fine but I
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: know publicly or privately they're struggling yeah I know they
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: have like issues you know yeah I'm, uh, I, I,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: after that, that with the magician one, I kind of
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: went offline for a few months, but I, I completely recovered.
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: Went offline. Like how so?
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Uh, just slowly over a period of months, I just
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: got super depressed and anxious and fearful of everything. Uh,
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: just in my mind, it was just a loop of everything.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: everything bad and is going to happen is catastrophic thinking
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: and ruminating. And yeah, it was my creative mind turned
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: against me.
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: And it was, it was frightening. It felt like you're
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: in the bottom of a well looking up. And eventually
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: I got on some medication and.
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: What kind of medication did they give you for that? Oh, shit.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: I can't remember.
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: Um.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: But after a couple of months on... Actually.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: About.
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: Four to six weeks on the medication, I... The colors
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: came back, and I started feeling like myself again.
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: Did you lose sight of colors? Did you get colorful?
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: No, that was just.
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: Metaphorically? Okay.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: Um... And then I went off the medicine and I'm fine,
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: but it was pretty intense.
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: So did they do anything for that? I know there's
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: some different therapies they do for people that have.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: I did a transcranial magnetic stimulation.
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I was going to ask you about.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: And I started that and it was kind of... I
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: was in the middle of my episode and.
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: I started that.
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: You do it over like six to eight weeks. I
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: can't remember. And I remember at the first, I'd start
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: it and I'd talk to the guy running it. But
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: by the end, the end of the eight weeks, I
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: was just kind of, I wouldn't look at him. I
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: wouldn't talk to him. And yeah, I was just completely
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: in my head all the time.
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: So it got worse progressively then?
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it got worse.
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: But.
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: Yeah, the just medication and I came out of it.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: Well, I'm glad you came out of it.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: But that's a good reason to not do that kind
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: of shit anymore.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: Yeah. That's why I can't. I don't.
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: It was. It's too much.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, that's what I worry about with fighters because, like, listen,
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: you and I are sitting here. We're talking. You're not
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: slurring your words. You seem fine. Everything's fine. There's fighters
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: that you see. the slurring, and you see the mumbling
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: of the words, and yet they're still fighting.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's like Ali at the end.
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: When he's doing those interviews around the Leon Spinks fights.
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: You know, even Larry Holmes was sparring with them. They
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: could notice.
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: Notice the difference.
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: But it's like you.
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: How do you... It's tough to figure out how to...
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: He has a certain spirit about him, and how.
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: Do you outrun that? Which made him a champion.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: Yeah, how do you outrun that? How do you put
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: that light out? And that's the problem.
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: I think you have to plant that seed in a
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: fighter's head when they're young. I don't think you could
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: tell them that this is going to be a ride
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: that lasts forever. I think you have to tell them,
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: there's going to be a time where we realize we
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: have to stop this. We have to stop doing this.
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: And you're going to have to trust me. Yeah. Because
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: I'm on the outside. And I'm going to watch you
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: very carefully. And we're going to make sure that you
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: never get to a point where you're– I like a
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: fighter that retires and they can talk and they're fine
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: and they're good. I like that. I like when a
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: guy gets out. Andre Ward is one of my favorite
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: fighters because not just was he– Two-division world champion. Not
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: only was he an elite boxer, but he retired undefeated
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: and never came back, and now he's fine. He does commentary.
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: You're hanging out with him. He's got no lingering problems.
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: He's good. He got off the right time. I like that.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I often think where would– it's sort of a pivot.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: Where would Roy Jones Jr. be ranked if he retired
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: after the Ruiz fight?
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: After he became heavyweight champion.
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: It's a very good question. I think that was one
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: of the biggest mistakes that he ever did was going
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: up to heavyweight and then going down to 175 again.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: To fight Tarver.
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: Right. Because he wasn't a heavyweight that was fat. It
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: wasn't like he could lose 25 pounds of extra fat
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: that he put on. No, he was shredded at 200
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: pounds and then lost 25 pounds of muscle. So he
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: had to starve himself to get back down to 75 again.
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: Because once your body gets accustomed... to carry around all
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: that extra weight. Like that's your new frame. And today
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: they would never say do that again.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: Like in the UFC, there's been some guys that had
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: some radical weight cuts like Alex Pereira. It's probably the
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: best example. But once he went down to 185, he
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: was cutting a tremendous amount of weight to get to 85.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: But once he went up to 205, now he's a 205-er.
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: He stays at 205. And now he's even talking about
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: going up to heavyweight, which is crazy.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: But he's got the frame for it. But like, If
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: he went all the way up to heavyweight and then
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: tried to go all the way down to 85 again,
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: he would be so fragile. You're so vulnerable. If you
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: get hit, the guys who dehydrate themselves significantly, they get
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: KO'd way easier.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: And guys will tell you that. Like when they cut
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: the weight, they can't take a punch. It's just different.
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: Because your brain doesn't rehydrate in time. So if you're
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: dehydrating to make, let's say, 170 pounds, If you're dehydrated
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: to make 170, but you really weigh 200, you can
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: get down to 170 for the weight. But once you
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: rehydrate and you're 200 again for the fight, you don't
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: have water in your brain yet. Yeah. Your brain's not–
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: brain takes days before it completely rehydrates.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: It's dangerous.
- 1:55:14Speaker 2: It's very dangerous. Yeah. But so that's the thing. It's
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: like you're talking about all the problems that you have,
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: but yet you're sitting here. You're not slurring your words.
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: You're laughing. You're laughing. You're coherent. We're having a good time.
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: And think about these guys that you see that start
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: mumbling and their words all kind of slur together.
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: It's weird. You have a hard time understanding them.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: The fits of rage.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: Yes. They 100% should not be fighting. Yeah. And yet
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: they're still fighting. And athletic commissions will even pass them.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: Does Vanderlei Silva still fight? Does he slur?
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: Dude, Vanderlei Silva just had a boxing match in Brazil.
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: That turned into a brawl. So so he was boxing
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: this guy and the bunch of people jumped into the
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: ring and started brawling. And one of the guys that
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: jumped to the ring KO'd him, hit him with a
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: bare knuckle punch and knocked him out cold. where he
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: falls back and bounces, and they have to drag him
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: out of the ring. So while people are, there's a melee.
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: There's like 10 people fighting inside the ring, and he's
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: stretched out cold. Here, watch it.
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: Jamie.
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: I'm trying to find a good version of it. You
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: can find it.
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: He was amazing in the pride fight.
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: Oh, he was a fucking warrior, a savage. A problem.
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: He was so crazy. But that's another guy that's been
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: KO'd so many fucking times. I don't speak Portuguese. But
- 1:56:41Speaker 2: my friends who do say you can clearly tell the difference.
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: So here's the fight. So this is afterwards. Boom.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: Oh, my God. The back of the canvas.
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: This guy just cracks him with a right hand. He
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: doesn't even see it coming. And he's out cold, flat
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: on his back. And then they just have to drag
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: him away from all these people fighting. Jesus.
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: Oh, that's sad.
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: He's dead. Oh, my God. Yeah. And again, this is
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: a guy that's he got knocked out by Mirko Krokop.
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: He got head kick KO'd. He got knocked out by
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: Rampage Jackson. He got knocked out by some big fucking
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: scary shots.
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: Krokop had legs like Earl Campbell. They were just ridiculous looking.
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: No, he was he was one of the most elite
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: strikers that ever competed in MMA. He was terrifying, too.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: That's the stare down. Between Vanderlei Silva and Mirko Krokop,
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: in my opinion, is the greatest stare down in the
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: history of combat sports. Because you've got a guy who,
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: in Vanderlei Silva, is one of the most intimidating, terrifying
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: MMA fighters that ever lived. But then in Mirko Krokop,
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: you've got a guy who's the head of an anti-terrorist squadron.
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: Who's fucking probably murdered people. Like, look at the difference.
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: That motherfucker ain't scared of shit. Look at this stare down.
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: Neither one of them are scared.
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think... Yeah, that guy's looking through to his
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: fucking soul Mirko is this Mirko wins this stare down.
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: Mirko was looking through to his fucking soul, dude.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: Oh my goodness.
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: That is a stare down, son. Look at his eyes.
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: That is a serious man. And, I mean, Mirko.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: That ref's got his hands full.
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Well, they always had their hands full in
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: Pride because they had stomps and soccer kicks. It was
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: a crazy organization.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Did they test in Pride?
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: No. Not only did they not test. Well, they did test.
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: They didn't do anything. It was a fake test.
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: You get an A-plus on steroids.
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: Ensign Inouye is another legend and just one of the
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: all-time greats and a pioneer of MMA from the early days.
- 1:58:50Speaker 2: Ensign told me when he did the podcast, he said
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: they had in all capital letters, we do not test
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: for steroids.
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: They wanted you on steroids. Or growth hormone.
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: They wanted you on it. Because look, if you want
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: excitement and you don't have a sanctioning body, like why
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: would you? Your goal is to create the best product. Like,
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: what's the best product? Bunch of juiced up fucking psychopaths
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: beat the shit out of each other. Highly skilled, juiced
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: up savages going to war. That's what you want. You
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: don't want anybody who's dealing with normal hormone levels. Fuck that.
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: So they would encourage people.
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: I didn't hear any rumors of Fedor doing that. Do
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: you think Fedor?
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: I don't. Well, you can only speculate. You don't know
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: because he didn't look like he was on steroids. Right.
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: Because he had like dad bod. But jacked, you know,
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: but he carried along some extra body fat because he
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: didn't have to worry about losing weight. But he came
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: from the Russian sports program, you know, and they cheated
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: with everything. The reality of, have you ever seen that
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: movie Icarus?
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: No.
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: Oh, it's a great movie.
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Brian Fogle made this documentary. It's a
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: really interesting documentary because he made the documentary. This was
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: the plan of it. He was an endurance racer. So
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: he's going to do a cycling race. And he was
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: going to do it naturally. So he does it, compares
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: his numbers. And then he hires this guy, Gregory Rechenko.
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: Is it Rechenkov? Rechenko? That's the guy who was the
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: head of the Russian anti-doping, and I'm making air quotes,
- 2:00:31Speaker 2: anti-doping program. And so during... Rodchenkov, Grigory Rodchenkov. So during
- 2:00:39Speaker 2: the filming of it, it turns out that the Russians
- 2:00:44Speaker 2: get busted because during the Sochi Olympics, the entire roster
- 2:00:51Speaker 2: of Russian athletes was on roids. So what they did
- 2:00:54Speaker 2: was they cut a hole in the wall- And they
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: would take the piss that the Russians had given after
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: the competition. They'd sneak it through the hole and sneak
- 2:01:03Speaker 2: in some new piss and put it in its place.
- 2:01:06Speaker 2: But what they had found was that there was micro
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: abrasions in the jars. They supposedly had these unopenable jars. Right.
- 2:01:14Speaker 2: And the Russians had figured out a way to like
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: snake some sort of a utensil or some sort of
- 2:01:20Speaker 2: a device and open up these jars, swap out the
- 2:01:24Speaker 2: piss and put in some fresh, clean piss in the
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: same jar. So this is while they're filming. So he
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: is being taught how to juice up by this guy.
- 2:01:37Speaker 2: So this guy is telling him, this is what you
- 2:01:38Speaker 2: would take, and this is how much to take. So
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: he's doing this, preparing- Preparing to go do this cycling
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: race juiced up and while this is happening This guy
- 2:01:47Speaker 2: has to flee Russia because now he gets busted and
- 2:01:51Speaker 2: then he starts telling Brian Fogle Everything he tells him
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: how they run the program. So now to this day
- 2:01:58Speaker 2: this guy's hiding. He's in witness protection They took his
- 2:02:01Speaker 2: they arrested his family. I think they took his family's
- 2:02:05Speaker 2: money away. They took their home away They took everything
- 2:02:08Speaker 2: and because they want them then to turn this guy
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: in so he's in witness protection right now still and
- 2:02:13Speaker 2: America hiding because they'll assassinate him if they find him Oh,
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: yeah Because this guy gave up the entire secrets of
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: the Russian doping program which led to in the Brazil
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: Olympics Russia was banned from the Brazil Olympics.
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: Yeah for the doping and.
- 2:02:27Speaker 2: Yeah So this documentary is fucking wild because it shows
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: He tells every the only people that didn't do it
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: with was figure skaters. They said the figure skaters. It
- 2:02:39Speaker 2: didn't help and And it actually hurt a little bit.
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: We tried, but it didn't help.
- 2:02:43Speaker 2: They want to keep them gay. They wanted to keep
- 2:02:47Speaker 2: them like whatever they wanted to keep them. They just
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: felt like there's something about giving them testosterone, giving them
- 2:02:55Speaker 2: human growth hormone, steroids. It fucked with their fine motor skills.
- 2:02:59Speaker 2: And it's such a delicate sport. It's a sport of
- 2:03:04Speaker 2: just hand-eye coordination and balance, and it didn't help them
- 2:03:07Speaker 2: to be on performance-enhancing drugs. Yeah.
- 2:03:10Speaker 1: You said keep him gay. I don't think if you
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: gave steroids to Johnny Weir, it's going to, you know.
- 2:03:16Speaker 2: You only want one way to find out? No, I'm
- 2:03:19Speaker 2: just kidding. That guy is.
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: He's pretty entertaining, Johnny Weir.
- 2:03:24Speaker 2: Was he a gay porn star?
- 2:03:25Speaker 1: No, he was an Olympic skater, right? Is it Johnny Weir?
- 2:03:30Speaker 2: It's Johnny Weir. Oh, right, right, right. He's fantastic. I
- 2:03:35Speaker 2: don't know why I thought gay porn star. I thought, like,
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: if you're giving... Steroids to a gay guy will be
- 2:03:42Speaker 2: the last guy that you'd want to do it to
- 2:03:44Speaker 2: to see if you could turn them Not gay would
- 2:03:47Speaker 2: be a gay porn star I can give him steroids
- 2:03:50Speaker 2: and also he's like why am I fucking all these guys?
- 2:03:52Speaker 2: This is crazy. Thank you. You've cured me. It turns
- 2:03:56Speaker 2: out it wasn't pray the gay away It's injecting.
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: All that that that preacher pray the gay away.
- 2:04:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh those guys are funny Those guys are almost
- 2:04:04Speaker 2: all gay those those gay of course. Yeah, it's like
- 2:04:08Speaker 2: they'll get together and hug it out like boners. Oh Yeah.
- 2:04:11Speaker 2: Kind of sad.
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: Just be how you're going to be, man. Don't, like,
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: tell everyone what to do. Just live your life however
- 2:04:18Speaker 1: you want to live it.
- 2:04:19Speaker 2: Well, there's a burden of responsibility on some of us
- 2:04:21Speaker 2: for being judgmental and for so long. I mean, being
- 2:04:25Speaker 2: gay was so dangerous to come out. You could get killed.
- 2:04:28Speaker 2: You could get beaten. I mean, it's a testament to
- 2:04:33Speaker 2: our society today that it is, like, not just accepted
- 2:04:37Speaker 2: but celebrated that people are gay. It's because for so
- 2:04:40Speaker 2: long it was so hard to be gay. Yeah, of course.
- 2:04:43Speaker 2: Do you know the Turing test? Do you know what
- 2:04:45Speaker 2: the Turing test is?
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Alan Turing was gay, and I mean, that's
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: a tragic story. The man really had an enormous impact
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: on World War II, but still he had to be closeted,
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: and then the.
- 2:05:04Speaker 2: And then they chemically castrated him.
- 2:05:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:05:06Speaker 2: In England. It's tragic. In the 1950s. And he's the
- 2:05:09Speaker 2: guy who came up with the Turing test, which is
- 2:05:11Speaker 2: a way to determine whether or not artificial intelligence had
- 2:05:14Speaker 2: achieved sentience. Could you tell if you're having– and most
- 2:05:19Speaker 2: people believe that at this point in time, you can't tell.
- 2:05:23Speaker 2: Like the Turing test has already been achieved. Like they've
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: already passed it. Like if you talk to like perplexity,
- 2:05:29Speaker 2: this is what I use for everything. If I talk
- 2:05:31Speaker 2: to it, I would not know whether or not that's
- 2:05:34Speaker 2: a person or not. I mean, it can communicate like
- 2:05:37Speaker 2: a human.
- 2:05:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:05:38Speaker 2: And it can answer questions about anything. It's just basically
- 2:05:40Speaker 2: like a super genius human being that I ask questions
- 2:05:44Speaker 2: to all the time on my phone. And I don't
- 2:05:48Speaker 2: ever feel like this is a computer. It feels like
- 2:05:51Speaker 2: a fucking person that's just like you have a wizard.
- 2:05:54Speaker 2: that you can ask any question of and it can
- 2:05:56Speaker 2: give you the answer. So that's Alan Turing's invention was
- 2:06:00Speaker 2: this test to determine whether or not you could determine
- 2:06:04Speaker 2: whether artificial intelligence had achieved sentience. And what did they
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: do to this guy? They chemically castrated him for being
- 2:06:10Speaker 2: gay and he wound up committing suicide. It's tragic.
- 2:06:14Speaker 1: I mean, all that he did in World War II,
- 2:06:19Speaker 1: I mean, he's the father of the modern computer.
- 2:06:22Speaker 2: He helped break the.
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: Enigma Code, which was considered unbreakable.
- 2:06:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:06:28Speaker 1: And just his country turned his back on him. And
- 2:06:35Speaker 1: everyone liked him, really.
- 2:06:37Speaker 2: And not even that long ago. That's what's crazy. People
- 2:06:40Speaker 2: who were alive back then are still alive today. And
- 2:06:43Speaker 2: that's how much the world has shifted. Yeah. And, you know,
- 2:06:47Speaker 2: whatever it's been, 80 years. It's kind of crazy. Yeah.
- 2:06:50Speaker 2: Not even 80 years, 70 years, right? Crazy. Yeah.
- 2:06:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm fascinated by World War II and the characters
- 2:06:59Speaker 1: from that.
- 2:07:00Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. No, World War II is a nutty time
- 2:07:02Speaker 2: in history. And it's also, in a lot of people's
- 2:07:06Speaker 2: eyes in America, one of the reasons why people are
- 2:07:09Speaker 2: so fascinated with World War II, it's the last time
- 2:07:12Speaker 2: Americans got to feel like real heroes. Yeah. We fucking
- 2:07:16Speaker 2: did it. We turned back the Nazis. We defeated them.
- 2:07:20Speaker 2: We stopped this... takeover of the world by the most
- 2:07:25Speaker 2: evil group that we've ever seen assembled in modern history.
- 2:07:28Speaker 2: And America came back, and there's that photograph, that famous photograph,
- 2:07:32Speaker 2: I guess it's in Times Square, where that soldier's kissing
- 2:07:36Speaker 2: that woman.
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: That was staged, right?
- 2:07:40Speaker 2: I believe it was. Unfortunately.
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: Because the wars after that were muddy. It was not like,
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: this is a good guy, this is the bad guy.
- 2:07:47Speaker 1: And then in Vietnam, you're not taking a hill. It
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: wasn't about that. It became just the number of casualties.
- 2:07:57Speaker 2: Well, also, it was a war that didn't make any sense.
- 2:07:59Speaker 1: No. no.
- 2:08:00Speaker 2: We found out later on that it was a war
- 2:08:02Speaker 2: that was started under false pretenses.
- 2:08:04Speaker 1: Sure. Well, there's been a few of those.
- 2:08:07Speaker 2: But that was the one that's the most obvious. The
- 2:08:09Speaker 2: Gulf of Tonkin incident is the most obvious and proven.
- 2:08:13Speaker 2: Like now, it's not a conspiracy theory. They staged a
- 2:08:16Speaker 2: false flag. They lied to the American people.
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: It's the same thing. Hitler did in Poland.
- 2:08:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Did you ever read Blitzt? No. It's Norman Oler
- 2:08:31Speaker 2: wrote about Hitler marching through Poland and about all the
- 2:08:34Speaker 2: drugs that they were giving people.
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the Pervitin. They would get jacked up on Pervitin.
- 2:08:40Speaker 2: Fucking meth. They had capsules. Meth capsules. And the people
- 2:08:44Speaker 2: at the front of the line got the most meth.
- 2:08:47Speaker 2: They dosed people up according to where you were.
- 2:08:51Speaker 1: But they realized that had diminishing returns because they're just
- 2:08:54Speaker 1: jacked up all the time and they're not sleeping and
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: then it starts falling off.
- 2:08:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: But by then they were addicted.
- 2:09:01Speaker 2: Well, it turns out you could do it for three
- 2:09:02Speaker 2: days and get all the way through Poland. Yeah. That's
- 2:09:06Speaker 2: how they did it.
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:09:07Speaker 2: Three days, no sleep. And Hitler was like, I know
- 2:09:11Speaker 2: how we could do it. Just meth everybody up and
- 2:09:14Speaker 2: have a march.
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: Well, he was taking more drugs than anyone.
- 2:09:16Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Well, he had his own doctor. that wasn't
- 2:09:20Speaker 2: a part of the SS yeah that shady ass doctor
- 2:09:21Speaker 2: yeah yeah yeah it's all in the book the book
- 2:09:24Speaker 2: is fantastic it's really good because it's just like and
- 2:09:28Speaker 2: he said that most of what Hitler was on was
- 2:09:30Speaker 2: actually opiates.
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: Yeah Eucanol I don't know Pervitin.
- 2:09:36Speaker 2: Well Pervitin is a meth right.
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: Yeah Pervitin is the meth but I think Eucanol was
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: an opiate it can were you he was on a
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: lot he was on a lot of shit yeah.
- 2:09:47Speaker 2: A lot of different things Do you know that he
- 2:09:50Speaker 2: also had a genetic anomaly that would lead to his
- 2:09:52Speaker 2: testicles not descending? Yeah, I've heard of it. Yeah, I
- 2:09:55Speaker 2: think it's called Korman syndrome or something like that.
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it was an opiate.
- 2:10:02Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it's called Holman syndrome or something like that.
- 2:10:07Speaker 2: Whatever he got. What is it called?
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: Morale was like Elvis's doctor.
- 2:10:11Speaker 2: Yeah. So they got. Blood from the fabric. What was
- 2:10:18Speaker 2: it called? What was the syndrome called?
- 2:10:25Speaker 1: Micropenis.
- 2:10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, well, definitely. Micropenis was the Kalman. That's what it is.
- 2:10:30Speaker 2: Kalman syndrome. So what it was was they found blood
- 2:10:34Speaker 2: from the couch where supposedly Hitler committed suicide. They took
- 2:10:39Speaker 2: that blood and matched the DNA to Hitler's bloodline. So
- 2:10:42Speaker 2: they knew it was male blood. and they knew the
- 2:10:45Speaker 2: blood came from someone in Hitler's family. So they're reasonably
- 2:10:50Speaker 2: assured that this is Hitler, and then they found that
- 2:10:52Speaker 2: they had Kalman syndrome. So researchers analyzing blood-stained cloth from
- 2:10:57Speaker 2: the sofa where Hitler died found genetic marker linked to
- 2:11:00Speaker 2: Kalman syndrome disorder as a form of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which
- 2:11:06Speaker 2: resulted in insufficient production of sex hormones and can prevent
- 2:11:10Speaker 2: or delay puberty. Makes sense.
- 2:11:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:11:13Speaker 2: Right? Methed up dude. Yeah. Little dick.
- 2:11:16Speaker 1: Tiny dick.
- 2:11:16Speaker 2: No balls.
- 2:11:17Speaker 1: Most evil man in history.
- 2:11:19Speaker 2: Wants to fuck the whole world. Maybe one ball. Maybe
- 2:11:22Speaker 2: one ball. Well, he was diagnosed with one undescended testicle.
- 2:11:26Speaker 2: That was a fact from one of his medical reports.
- 2:11:29Speaker 2: One of his testicles, like, stuck up there.
- 2:11:32Speaker 1: Yeah. It's, uh... He had some problems. He had some issues.
- 2:11:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: What a fucking monster.
- 2:11:41Speaker 2: Speaking of meth... We always talk about this documentary that
- 2:11:45Speaker 2: Johnny had a hand in. Oh, that's right.
- 2:11:47Speaker 1: Oh, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.
- 2:11:49Speaker 2: I fucking love that documentary, dude.
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:11:53Speaker 2: That documentary was crazy. How did you get involved in it?
- 2:11:56Speaker 2: Thank you, Jamie. How did you get involved in that?
- 2:11:59Speaker 1: A friend of mine knew Julian Nitzberg, and Julian is
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: the one who found Jessica White. Julian was doing another
- 2:12:11Speaker 1: documentary called on um oh shit uh fuck I can't
- 2:12:19Speaker 1: remember right now but they're like hey do you want
- 2:12:23Speaker 1: to meet Julian Nitzberg and I'm like yeah and so
- 2:12:27Speaker 1: I talked to Julian he told me the story of
- 2:12:29Speaker 1: him being involved with Jessica White the first documentary you
- 2:12:32Speaker 1: saw the first one right uh you did more than
- 2:12:36Speaker 1: one No, no. The first one, Jacob Young did. Julian
- 2:12:40Speaker 1: Nitzberg found Jessica White, went to Jacob Young and said, hey,
- 2:12:44Speaker 1: look at this guy. Look at this character. And it
- 2:12:46Speaker 1: came out on videotape. And if you saw it back
- 2:12:52Speaker 1: in the late 80s, early 90s, it was usually like
- 2:12:55Speaker 1: a copied over fourth.
- 2:12:58Speaker 2: Is this the Dancing Outlaw one? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 2:13:00Speaker 2: So that's not the Wild and Wonderful White to West Virginia.
- 2:13:03Speaker 2: That was yours, right? Yes.
- 2:13:05Speaker 1: And so- I was talking to Julian and I'm like, well,
- 2:13:09Speaker 1: what do you think Jessica's up to now? He's like,
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: I don't know. And so we got some money together
- 2:13:15Speaker 1: and sent him to talk to Jessica and his family.
- 2:13:19Speaker 1: And now because of just generational neglect and all the
- 2:13:26Speaker 1: young kids coming up, he's like, he was like, you know, the, the,
- 2:13:33Speaker 1: wildest one in the family but now he's like the
- 2:13:36Speaker 1: eighth wildest all the younger ones are much you know
- 2:13:39Speaker 1: more intense and we came back with three days of
- 2:13:43Speaker 1: footage and we're like holy shit and i we show
- 2:13:47Speaker 1: we cut something together and took it to my friends
- 2:13:50Speaker 1: at mtv and uh they're like yell okay we'll give
- 2:13:56Speaker 1: you some money they weren't even sure they're like you
- 2:13:58Speaker 1: guys haven't you know uh failed us yet so they
- 2:14:04Speaker 1: just pushed the money our way and we came back
- 2:14:07Speaker 1: with that we were it was it was wild.
- 2:14:09Speaker 2: It's a fucking amazing documentary.
- 2:14:10Speaker 1: They're charismatic a charismatic family of charismatic bunch of outlaws.
- 2:14:16Speaker 2: Yeah well it's certainly entertaining and it's also an untold
- 2:14:20Speaker 2: story about that part of the country and how they've
- 2:14:23Speaker 2: been ravaged.
- 2:14:24Speaker 1: By pills in in well they've been rat first of
- 2:14:26Speaker 1: all they were ravaged by the coal companies right jacking
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: their town and then You can only buy stuff from
- 2:14:34Speaker 1: the company store. And then when the cold's gone, fuck you,
- 2:14:38Speaker 1: we're out of here. And the town's just left, you know, massacred.
- 2:14:43Speaker 1: And then with no thought of what happens to those people.
- 2:14:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:14:50Speaker 1: You see how that can make the whites and anyone
- 2:14:56Speaker 1: in that area feel right. And so like, oh, the man,
- 2:14:59Speaker 1: we're going to stick it to the man. The man
- 2:15:01Speaker 1: stuck it to us. We're going to stick it to
- 2:15:02Speaker 1: the man.
- 2:15:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:15:04Speaker 1: With, you know, they all get checks for disability checks and,
- 2:15:09Speaker 1: you know, they're, I don't know, it's just pretty sad.
- 2:15:13Speaker 2: It's very sad. Entertaining and sad at the same time.
- 2:15:16Speaker 2: It's like you're very conflicted. You want to laugh at them,
- 2:15:18Speaker 2: but you're also like, oh, my God, there's kids there.
- 2:15:21Speaker 2: There's families here. They're all fucked up, like the kid
- 2:15:24Speaker 2: doing backflips because he's high on Mountain Dew.
- 2:15:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. And he's talking about stabbing. I forget which
- 2:15:34Speaker 1: boyfriend of Sue Bob's. Yeah. It's crazy. It was intense. Yeah.
- 2:15:40Speaker 2: But it's both funny and entertaining, but also like deeply
- 2:15:44Speaker 2: disturbing at the same time. Cause you realize, especially towards
- 2:15:46Speaker 2: the end of the film where they want to get
- 2:15:49Speaker 2: out of this life. Like they're trying to clean up,
- 2:15:51Speaker 2: you know, and she's trying to get off pills and. Yeah.
- 2:15:55Speaker 1: Yeah. But I, you know, it's tough when you're, Raised
- 2:16:02Speaker 1: in an environment and, you know, you don't know how
- 2:16:06Speaker 1: to get out.
- 2:16:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:16:07Speaker 1: You don't have those tools.
- 2:16:09Speaker 2: Well, there's no clear path.
- 2:16:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16:10Speaker 2: There's no clear path out of there. And everywhere around
- 2:16:13Speaker 2: you is fucked. Everything's fucked. Everyone's fucked. There's no good
- 2:16:17Speaker 2: examples of people that figured it out, got their shit together.
- 2:16:21Speaker 2: There's no one cool uncle that, you know, went straight.
- 2:16:25Speaker 1: Well, there is part of the family that moved to
- 2:16:27Speaker 1: Michigan and they started flourishing. Oh, that's right. Yeah.
- 2:16:30Speaker 2: That's right.
- 2:16:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16:32Speaker 2: That's the move.
- 2:16:33Speaker 1: But it's, yeah.
- 2:16:35Speaker 2: Fucking hard. Yeah, it's hard. Yeah, it's like, I think
- 2:16:40Speaker 2: there's just forgotten sections of our country when it comes
- 2:16:46Speaker 2: to just extreme despair and poverty and just overall, like
- 2:16:52Speaker 2: you said, fucked over by the coal companies, fucked over
- 2:16:55Speaker 2: by pills. Everyone's addicted. Everyone's just... like this long history
- 2:17:02Speaker 2: of crime.
- 2:17:03Speaker 1: And when you're raised in that continually, it's, it's, how
- 2:17:08Speaker 1: do you see a way out? You know, it just,
- 2:17:11Speaker 1: I don't know. It's, it's pretty, pretty sad.
- 2:17:16Speaker 2: Did, but when you filmed it, did you think it
- 2:17:18Speaker 2: was going to be sad? Or did you think it
- 2:17:20Speaker 2: was just going to be crazy?
- 2:17:21Speaker 1: Like, you don't know what you're walking into.
- 2:17:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:17:23Speaker 1: You have no idea. Um, uh, so, Uh, what came
- 2:17:33Speaker 1: back was, it was very impactful and you couldn't turn away.
- 2:17:41Speaker 1: It just, yeah, there's a lot of shit that really
- 2:17:46Speaker 1: pulls on your heartstrings, but they're so charismatic. and they
- 2:17:50Speaker 1: have such a way about them.
- 2:17:55Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:17:55Speaker 1: It makes it... Their sense of humor helps ease you
- 2:18:02Speaker 1: through it about the situation. But still, it's a situation.
- 2:18:06Speaker 2: Did you take them to the premiere or anything? Wait, we.
- 2:18:10Speaker 1: We flew Jessica and Mamie in for the premiere. And
- 2:18:20Speaker 1: I remember he was going to tap dance at the premiere.
- 2:18:27Speaker 1: And he's got his tap shoes, which were his father, D.
- 2:18:34Speaker 1: Ray White's tap shoes. They're just in a plastic bag.
- 2:18:39Speaker 1: pharmaceutical bag. But I dropped them when I got out
- 2:18:43Speaker 1: of the car and I was just like, I felt terrible.
- 2:18:48Speaker 1: But their characters, it was pretty wild meeting Jessica and Mamie.
- 2:18:55Speaker 1: That's my friend Storm I grew up with. He helped produce.
- 2:19:00Speaker 1: I remember me, Jessica, White, and Mike Judge just sitting
- 2:19:03Speaker 1: in a bar before having drinks.
- 2:19:07Speaker 2: Oh, Mike Judge was involved in this too? No, no.
- 2:19:10Speaker 1: He's just a friend of mine, and he was like,
- 2:19:11Speaker 1: I want to meet Jesco and Mamie.
- 2:19:13Speaker 2: I love that guy. Mike Judge is cool as fuck.
- 2:19:15Speaker 1: He's so talented.
- 2:19:17Speaker 2: Very, very talented. So bright. Yeah.
- 2:19:19Speaker 1: The man was an engineer starting out, then a musician,
- 2:19:23Speaker 1: and he's an interesting character.
- 2:19:27Speaker 2: Very, very interesting guy. But how did they react to
- 2:19:31Speaker 2: the film and watching people watch them and laughing and
- 2:19:36Speaker 2: going crazy? They.
- 2:19:38Speaker 1: They, I mean, at the premiere, they seemed they really
- 2:19:43Speaker 1: enjoyed it. You know, it's like it's a big thing.
- 2:19:46Speaker 1: You see yourself up on screen. I know the subject
- 2:19:49Speaker 1: matter is tough, but I don't know. That's their life, right?
- 2:19:54Speaker 1: They're not surprised by anything.
- 2:19:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:19:57Speaker 1: It's just, you know.
- 2:19:59Speaker 2: What happened with them after the film? Do you follow
- 2:20:04Speaker 2: up on them?
- 2:20:05Speaker 1: Every now and then, Julian will send me something. One
- 2:20:08Speaker 1: of them will be in the news for this or that.
- 2:20:13Speaker 1: I haven't stayed in touch. I didn't stay in touch.
- 2:20:18Speaker 2: What did you say, Jamie? Sue Bob's on TikTok with
- 2:20:20Speaker 2: her daughter. Oh, boy.
- 2:20:22Speaker 1: Sue Bob's got the best voice.
- 2:20:25Speaker 2: I was always the sexy one. I didn't even get
- 2:20:30Speaker 2: that voice. That's crazy.
- 2:20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, what a voice.
- 2:20:34Speaker 2: Have you ever thought about doing a follow-up?
- 2:20:38Speaker 1: Someone else can.
- 2:20:39Speaker 2: I don't.
- 2:20:42Speaker 1: We did it, and I think we moved on. I
- 2:20:45Speaker 1: think at some point it's a little much to go
- 2:20:49Speaker 1: back to that well. I don't feel right about it.
- 2:20:53Speaker 2: Right, a little exploitative.
- 2:20:55Speaker 1: I don't feel right about it.
- 2:20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that makes sense. Do you have aspirations to do
- 2:21:01Speaker 2: other stuff? Do you have any other things that you're
- 2:21:03Speaker 2: trying to do?
- 2:21:04Speaker 1: Well, I mean, in the film world, sure. So I
- 2:21:16Speaker 1: have a lot of... I love doing documentaries. I have
- 2:21:19Speaker 1: a couple of documentaries I'm trying to get off the ground.
- 2:21:23Speaker 2: And, you know.
- 2:21:27Speaker 1: One on David Allen Coe, who Julian Nitzberg was going
- 2:21:31Speaker 1: to direct. Do you know who David Allen Coe is?
- 2:21:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:21:34Speaker 1: He's a country singer, songwriter, who's like was the, from
- 2:21:42Speaker 1: the age of nine to 35, he was institutionalized. You know,
- 2:21:46Speaker 1: his parents just kind of used too much and they
- 2:21:49Speaker 1: put him in the boys' home. And he was the
- 2:21:52Speaker 1: head of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gang for a while. He
- 2:21:56Speaker 1: had eight or nine wives for a while. At the
- 2:22:03Speaker 1: same time? Yeah, at the same time. He formed his
- 2:22:08Speaker 1: own religion. He wrote his own– you know, wrote a book.
- 2:22:14Speaker 1: He was– oh, the best. I have to show you
- 2:22:17Speaker 1: a picture in– And he also wrote some racist songs
- 2:22:22Speaker 1: while he was in prison, and Shel Silverstein convinced him
- 2:22:25Speaker 1: to record those when he got out. I turned my
- 2:22:30Speaker 1: phone off.
- 2:22:30Speaker 2: Shel Silverstein, the guy who wrote children's books?
- 2:22:33Speaker 1: And a boy named Sue, and on the cover of
- 2:22:36Speaker 1: The Rolling Stone. Shel Silverstein wrote a lot of songs.
- 2:22:40Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 2:22:43Speaker 1: And he convinced a couple of the songs were racist,
- 2:22:46Speaker 1: and there's no defense to them. He's lived a very
- 2:22:50Speaker 1: complicated life. But in the 80s, he decided, I'm going
- 2:22:56Speaker 1: to become a magician. And I have a picture of
- 2:22:59Speaker 1: him with his– and a ventriloquist. And I'll show it
- 2:23:03Speaker 1: to you in a second. It's pretty– he's the most
- 2:23:06Speaker 1: frightening fucking ventriloquist you've ever seen. Like– and the weird
- 2:23:13Speaker 1: thing is the magician's pen and teller credit him– As
- 2:23:19Speaker 1: one of their influences.
- 2:23:22Speaker 2: Is that him with his dummy? No, it's Terry Allen.
- 2:23:25Speaker 1: Okay, let me find it real quick. So it's an
- 2:23:30Speaker 1: incredible story, but it's just hard getting something like that
- 2:23:35Speaker 1: made now for people who aren't wanting to. Okay, come on.
- 2:23:42Speaker 1: I'm bringing up. So we're trying to tell that story.
- 2:23:48Speaker 2: And so just whatever just strikes your interest, like things
- 2:23:51Speaker 2: that you find fascinating. Can I airdrop this to Jamie? Yeah.
- 2:24:01Speaker 2: How do I do this?
- 2:24:02Speaker 1: And his son, Tyler Coe, does that podcast, Cocaine and Rhinestones.
- 2:24:05Speaker 1: It's a brilliant podcast. His son's really sharp.
- 2:24:09Speaker 2: It says airdrop code required. And so that's how you
- 2:24:14Speaker 2: decide things? Just based on like what's interesting?
- 2:24:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know what house to decide things.
- 2:24:20Speaker 2: Look at that. David Allen Coe. Look at his belt buckle.
- 2:24:23Speaker 2: Look at that belt buckle. Oh, yeah. What a scary-looking
- 2:24:28Speaker 2: dude with a dummy.
- 2:24:30Speaker 1: His son, Tyler, is like, I thought that thing was
- 2:24:33Speaker 1: real when I was growing up. You know, because he
- 2:24:37Speaker 1: made it seem that way.
- 2:24:38Speaker 2: Well, there's a weird connection between a really good ventriloquist
- 2:24:42Speaker 2: and their dummy that gets very odd.
- 2:24:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:24:44Speaker 2: It's like in the Twilight Zone episode. Where the guy
- 2:24:48Speaker 2: has the dummy. Do you ever see that? No. Oh,
- 2:24:50Speaker 2: it's great. It's a Twilight Zone episode where the dummy
- 2:24:52Speaker 2: and the guy are having conversations when no one's around.
- 2:24:55Speaker 2: The dummy is alive. And then I think the dummy
- 2:24:59Speaker 2: kills the guy. But I had a guy that I
- 2:25:04Speaker 2: used to work with way back in the day. His
- 2:25:06Speaker 2: name was Otto and George. And he was a ventriloquist
- 2:25:09Speaker 2: comedy act. And George was the dummy. And Otto was
- 2:25:14Speaker 2: the guy. And Otto would be like, I can't believe
- 2:25:17Speaker 2: you're saying these things. And George would say, like, really
- 2:25:19Speaker 2: fucked up. And George was an evil-looking dummy with, like,
- 2:25:22Speaker 2: crazy eyebrows. He was a legend, like a comedy legend.
- 2:25:25Speaker 2: That's Otto and George. Oh, wow. Yeah.
- 2:25:29Speaker 1: They were a little too close.
- 2:25:30Speaker 2: It was a little close. Like, he would be driving
- 2:25:33Speaker 2: in the car, and George would be in the trunk.
- 2:25:35Speaker 2: And he would tell the guy driving, pull over. I
- 2:25:38Speaker 2: got to check on George. Like he felt like he
- 2:25:41Speaker 2: had to pull over and talk to the dummy. And
- 2:25:44Speaker 2: he'd get out by the side of the road, pop
- 2:25:46Speaker 2: open the trunk, and hear him back there like just
- 2:25:49Speaker 2: fucking around with the dummy, like looking at it, talking
- 2:25:51Speaker 2: to it. And he'd put it back in and drive off.
- 2:25:54Speaker 2: Like he would get in his head that the dummy
- 2:25:57Speaker 2: needed to be checked on.
- 2:25:59Speaker 1: How does a guy like that operate in life?
- 2:26:02Speaker 2: He's dead now, unfortunately.
- 2:26:04Speaker 1: We all end up that way.
- 2:26:06Speaker 2: He partied hard. Right. Like he had– he was an enthusiast.
- 2:26:12Speaker 1: Relationships?
- 2:26:14Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean I never heard about him
- 2:26:17Speaker 2: being married or anything like that. I don't believe he
- 2:26:19Speaker 2: had any children. But he was nuts. He was like–
- 2:26:23Speaker 2: I never got to know him all that well. I
- 2:26:26Speaker 2: worked with him a ton of times. But it was
- 2:26:28Speaker 2: always like– and he's like, hey, Joe, how are you?
- 2:26:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:26:31Speaker 2: You know, he'd have his dummy there, but you would just,
- 2:26:33Speaker 2: everybody would go to the back of the room when
- 2:26:35Speaker 2: Otto would go on stage. We'd all want to watch.
- 2:26:38Speaker 1: That was his relationship, the dummy.
- 2:26:41Speaker 2: Well, I was, you know, I don't know if he
- 2:26:42Speaker 2: had other relationships, but that was a big one. And
- 2:26:45Speaker 2: one time he was going back and forth with some
- 2:26:48Speaker 2: guy in the audience, and the dummy was saying horrible
- 2:26:50Speaker 2: things to this guy, and the guy stabbed the dummy.
- 2:26:53Speaker 2: The guy jumped up on stage and stabbed the dummy.
- 2:26:59Speaker 2: It was at Dangerfields. Yeah, I think it was at Dangerfield.
- 2:27:02Speaker 1: What a brilliant move.
- 2:27:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:27:05Speaker 1: That's inspired.
- 2:27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he was a part of the program.
- 2:27:09Speaker 2: That guy was a part of the performance. He jumped up.
- 2:27:11Speaker 1: And stabbed the dummy. That's probably worse than stabbing him.
- 2:27:16Speaker 1: You know, I'm heartbroken.
- 2:27:17Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you know, I'm assuming the guy was
- 2:27:21Speaker 2: doing it for fun. But unless he thought the dummy
- 2:27:24Speaker 2: was actually the problem. Ha ha ha!
- 2:27:30Speaker 1: That critical thinking.
- 2:27:31Speaker 2: I think they're actually doing a documentary on Otto and George. Really? Yeah,
- 2:27:36Speaker 2: I think someone's working on that right now. So that
- 2:27:39Speaker 2: would be interesting. He was a legend on the East
- 2:27:42Speaker 2: Coast during the 1980s and the 1990s. Like we all
- 2:27:46Speaker 2: knew Otto and George.
- 2:27:48Speaker 1: Wow. I completely missed that.
- 2:27:50Speaker 2: Yeah, but like a lot of people that are brilliant,
- 2:27:52Speaker 2: he was out of his fucking mind and never really
- 2:27:55Speaker 2: got traction in terms of like a real national career.
- 2:27:58Speaker 2: But he was very funny and a really good joke writer.
- 2:28:00Speaker 2: He was a funny guy.
- 2:28:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, because they don't have that little extra side
- 2:28:06Speaker 1: of them.
- 2:28:06Speaker 2: To– Business part.
- 2:28:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:28:08Speaker 2: The business part was missing.
- 2:28:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:28:10Speaker 2: He was just a maniacal genius. Yeah.
- 2:28:16Speaker 1: I have something to do after this. I'm going to
- 2:28:18Speaker 1: look up Otto and George.
- 2:28:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's something to look up. Listen, man, good luck
- 2:28:22Speaker 2: on Fear Factor.
- 2:28:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:28:24Speaker 2: I hope it runs another 148 episodes just like when
- 2:28:27Speaker 2: we did it back in the day, and I hope
- 2:28:29Speaker 2: nobody gets hurt.
- 2:28:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I appreciate that. I appreciate you having me on.
- 2:28:32Speaker 2: Oh, my pleasure. It's great to meet you, man. You've
- 2:28:34Speaker 2: entertained the fuck out of me over the years.
- 2:28:36Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:28:37Speaker 2: And give me a lot of anxiety as well. I'm
- 2:28:39Speaker 2: glad you're okay for the most part. Yeah, thanks, man. Well,
- 2:28:41Speaker 2: thanks for doing this. And tell everybody, when does it air?
- 2:28:43Speaker 2: When does Fear Factor start?
- 2:28:45Speaker 1: It premieres tomorrow. Oh, no, excuse me. It premieres tonight,
- 2:28:48Speaker 1: the 14th.
- 2:28:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:28:50Speaker 1: Sorry, I've been on a whirlwind kind of thing, so
- 2:28:52Speaker 1: it's on tonight.
- 2:28:53Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 2:28:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:28:54Speaker 2: Awesome. All right. Well, good luck.
- 2:28:56Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:28:56Speaker 2: Thank you. All right. Bye, everybody.
