- 0:13Speaker 1: Welcome to the show with your boy and I see
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the place to be my main man on the
- 0:17Speaker 1: ones and twos the Human Sports Almanac, the legend himself,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Jason Baum Yo JB was good man. How are you feeling, brother?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Oh? Good? It was a hectic weekend to say the least.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Great twenty four hours in Denver in the last three days.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I've played more back to backs than Joel and bid
- 0:37Speaker 2: has in the last three years sports. But we're feeling
- 0:41Speaker 2: good by your high and definitely looking forward to getting
- 0:45Speaker 2: into Samora. NBA off season craziness today as well as
- 0:48Speaker 2: discussing the World Cup and the home run derby last
- 0:52Speaker 2: night was great.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so I know. Yeah, you went to Denver to
- 0:56Speaker 1: see your nephew. We talked about that at the end
- 0:59Speaker 1: of last show and you said you've been playing a
- 1:02Speaker 1: bunch of back to backs these last days. Is this
- 1:04Speaker 1: soccer kickball or a combination of both?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Combination of the three and kickball? Saturday kickball Sunday doubleheaders
- 1:11Speaker 2: and then a soccer match.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Last night, and then how do we do overall?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Let's see, Saturday we split kickball one day, we lost, soccer.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Sunday we sweat.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Kickball nice, nice, Okay, Hey man, when it comes to
- 1:25Speaker 1: seeing sporting events and recreationally playing a plethora of sports,
- 1:30Speaker 1: nobody does it quite like you. Shout to you, shout
- 1:34Speaker 1: to the work that it takes to physically still be
- 1:37Speaker 1: able to do that as we get older in age.
- 1:39Speaker 1: You're not quite as old as me, but I know
- 1:41Speaker 1: me personally. I was at a back my son's basketball practice,
- 1:44Speaker 1: even though he's not playing. We had practice last night,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and you know, I was hitting a few shots and
- 1:49Speaker 1: I was like, man, if you know, if only from
- 1:51Speaker 1: the knees down everything still worked, I might be able
- 1:53Speaker 1: to do something on a court. But that's why I
- 1:55Speaker 1: coach now and live vicariously through my son, because those
- 1:58Speaker 1: days of me running up and down and especially stopping
- 2:02Speaker 1: and landing are definitely over.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Dude, It's so hard. It's so hard, Like even just
- 2:06Speaker 2: last night playing soccer. Just try to try to keep
- 2:10Speaker 2: up with some of these players who have done it
- 2:11Speaker 2: for like so long, those Division six Yeah, the deceleration,
- 2:15Speaker 2: stopping and the cutting and the turning is a lot, no.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Doubt, no doubt. Well, we're going to talk a little
- 2:20Speaker 1: bit more about some youth sports here later on in
- 2:25Speaker 1: the show, but we got to start off with the
- 2:28Speaker 1: game that just ended Spain versus France in the World
- 2:33Speaker 1: Cup semi final. Spain looks absolutely dominant. They made France
- 2:39Speaker 1: look pedestrian, made them look ordinary. They had a back
- 2:43Speaker 1: line that was extremely solid. They kept showing on the
- 2:47Speaker 1: telecast over and over again how their back line just
- 2:51Speaker 1: stays right there and they move on a line together,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and it seems like no matter what France tried, they
- 2:58Speaker 1: were never able to get any real quality chances for anybody,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and specifically not for Imbappe, who we've seen dominate not
- 3:07Speaker 1: just this World Cup, but every World Cup he's played
- 3:10Speaker 1: in in international play in general, and Bope has been
- 3:13Speaker 1: absolutely amazing. I think it's hard to argue that right
- 3:16Speaker 1: this second, he's not the best player in the world.
- 3:18Speaker 1: But you saw a Spain defense that knew exactly what
- 3:21Speaker 1: their responsibilities were, that truly played together on a string.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a term they use in soccer,
- 3:26Speaker 1: but in basketball it surely is. And everybody was just
- 3:30Speaker 1: tight and they didn't give up any chances. Man, it
- 3:32Speaker 1: was really impressive to see how much they locked down
- 3:35Speaker 1: this French team that in every other game I've seen
- 3:38Speaker 1: them they're finding a way to get chance after chance,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and you know, in Bope, if he's not burying two
- 3:44Speaker 1: or three of them, he's at least, you know, making
- 3:48Speaker 1: situations where other people are able to shine and get involved.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But Spain was having nothing of it. You know, it
- 3:54Speaker 1: was really really impressive to watch. Again, I'm no soccer expert,
- 3:57Speaker 1: but watching it, you could definitely see that, you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: they seem to be as an entire team playing an
- 4:04Speaker 1: on an entirely different level. And as we have seen
- 4:06Speaker 1: here recently, just as you know recently as a little
- 4:10Speaker 1: bit over a month ago in the NBA finals, where
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's not always about having the player, the French player
- 4:17Speaker 1: that everybody says is supposed to be the best. Sometimes
- 4:21Speaker 1: it's about having the team. And it took me four
- 4:25Speaker 1: minutes and twenty seconds to make a Knicks reference where
- 4:29Speaker 1: it didn't necessarily belong. But if you if you know
- 4:33Speaker 1: me and you know what this summer is about, I'm
- 4:36Speaker 1: always gonna find a way. Yeah, man, I just I
- 4:38Speaker 1: thought it was I thought it was an interesting match.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It wasn't as exciting, you know, Spain, they they took
- 4:44Speaker 1: advantage of their chances. That first goal that they get
- 4:48Speaker 1: off the p K. The penalty that was picked up
- 4:51Speaker 1: by the French fellow. I don't know what his name is, Bom,
- 4:54Speaker 1: tell me what his name is when you get a chance.
- 4:55Speaker 1: But the penalty that was picked up by him, that
- 4:58Speaker 1: led to the peak which was absolutely buried, buried by
- 5:04Speaker 1: the Spanish guy who took it. And I mean, just
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know, if you expect me to know more than
- 5:08Speaker 1: like five soccer names total outside of the US, then
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna say the Spanish guy, maybe Bam will get
- 5:14Speaker 1: it for me. But yo, I just thought that when
- 5:17Speaker 1: they got their opportunities, they took care of him. They
- 5:20Speaker 1: had that. I mean, you've seen so many pks taken
- 5:24Speaker 1: in this World Cup that are just lackluster. There's not
- 5:29Speaker 1: enough heat on them. They're not up into the corners.
- 5:32Speaker 1: This guy put it into the side of the net.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Almost impossible to make a save against a keeper who
- 5:38Speaker 1: is known for making saves. Speaking of keepers, shout to
- 5:43Speaker 1: the keeper from Spain again. This dude just absolutely solid,
- 5:49Speaker 1: exactly where he was supposed to be. He had one
- 5:51Speaker 1: mishap where he came out and he tried to head
- 5:53Speaker 1: a ball out by the front of the box and
- 5:56Speaker 1: then it ended up getting behind him, but he still
- 5:58Speaker 1: got himself back into that play. The safe just excellent, fantastic.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You can see why this this Spain team has dominated,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you know, international play here recently. And you know, they
- 6:09Speaker 1: talk about, the commentators talked about they have a system
- 6:13Speaker 1: that is very very consistent from their youth leagues all
- 6:17Speaker 1: the way up through their World Cup team, and they
- 6:21Speaker 1: all come in knowing exactly what to do and exactly
- 6:24Speaker 1: how to fit into that system. And it definitely shows.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You know, I don't know who their GM is. He
- 6:29Speaker 1: sounds kind of Leon Rosish to me, but bomb, what
- 6:32Speaker 1: were some of those names, do you know?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, so the French player who took the penalty who
- 6:38Speaker 2: kicked the lamina all intidentally, his name was Lucas Dna.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And the guy who scored the goals that are actually
- 6:43Speaker 2: their PK specialist, Mike hel or yours of ball, and yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 2: you know when he took that penalty kick. You know,
- 6:50Speaker 2: one of the interesting things that I've noticed a lot
- 6:51Speaker 2: in this term, and I know we've talked about it too,
- 6:54Speaker 2: a lot of guys who are taking the PK stutter,
- 6:56Speaker 2: they do that little stutter. They try to hit him
- 6:57Speaker 2: with the heavy and it's not working. Just went up
- 7:00Speaker 2: there and just let it rip and he bury in
- 7:03Speaker 2: the side of the net.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You know, I saw a video of somebody talking about
- 7:08Speaker 1: how the stutter was really Anaymar thing, like he was
- 7:11Speaker 1: the guy that kind of like popularized that and how
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know how good he was at it, And obviously
- 7:15Speaker 1: there's some people listening. Bope, he's been very successful at
- 7:18Speaker 1: it overall, you know, everybody. The thing about it is
- 7:23Speaker 1: for me personally, whether or not that the goalie can
- 7:26Speaker 1: guess right. I'm not trying to guess or I'm not
- 7:30Speaker 1: trying to you know, outsmart the goalie and get him
- 7:33Speaker 1: leaning one way or the other way. I'm trying to
- 7:35Speaker 1: come up and I'm trying to hit that ball hard
- 7:37Speaker 1: into either the side of the net or up into
- 7:39Speaker 1: one of the corners. And if the goalie guesses right
- 7:41Speaker 1: and gets that ball and somehow keeps it out of
- 7:43Speaker 1: the back of the net, God bless him. But sometimes
- 7:47Speaker 1: I think that people overthinking a little bit, they try
- 7:49Speaker 1: to get a little bit too cute. It was good
- 7:51Speaker 1: to see somebody come up and just bury it the
- 7:53Speaker 1: way that he did. And yeah, now we go go
- 7:56Speaker 1: to the other semi final tomorrow, which is going to
- 7:58Speaker 1: be Argentina versus England, and we'll find out who was
- 8:03Speaker 1: gonna face up against Spain in the final. Honestly, the
- 8:07Speaker 1: way that I saw Spain look today, I don't especially
- 8:10Speaker 1: against France, who thus far I thought looked like the
- 8:13Speaker 1: best team in the tournament. I don't see how any
- 8:15Speaker 1: of these, either of these other teams end up beating them.
- 8:18Speaker 1: But I thought France was the best looking team I've
- 8:22Speaker 1: seen until today. So who knows, and I surely don't,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but I you know, so I didn't realize that there
- 8:28Speaker 1: was so much real beef between like Argentina and England, okay,
- 8:32Speaker 1: And so I thought this was a little bit interesting,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and so I looked it up, you know, I use
- 8:38Speaker 1: a little chatch ept and I said, you know what,
- 8:40Speaker 1: what's what's going on here? What's the what's the real
- 8:42Speaker 1: reason for all the beef? And there was a few
- 8:46Speaker 1: things in here that I didn't even that I didn't realize,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and they didn't even mention to me. What is one
- 8:52Speaker 1: of the other main reasons is first and foremost, there's
- 8:56Speaker 1: this Falklands War. This is in nineteen eighty two. They
- 9:01Speaker 1: say this is probably the biggest Arena biggest reason Argentina
- 9:05Speaker 1: they invaded the Falkland Islands, which was a British territory
- 9:08Speaker 1: down in the South Atlantic. The UK then sent military
- 9:11Speaker 1: forces and the lasted about ten weeks. Britain regained control
- 9:16Speaker 1: about nine hundred people. One hundred people were killed in
- 9:18Speaker 1: the conflict, and so England and Argentina they definitely there
- 9:23Speaker 1: was some emotional charge for that. And then after that,
- 9:27Speaker 1: just four years later, you have the meeting in the
- 9:31Speaker 1: World Cup and you have one of the most infamous
- 9:34Speaker 1: goals and one of the greatest goals, you have the
- 9:37Speaker 1: hand of God, and then you have that followed up
- 9:41Speaker 1: by the hand of God. And then they called the
- 9:44Speaker 1: goal of the century all in one game, and that
- 9:47Speaker 1: is Argentina beating England two to one. So you got
- 9:50Speaker 1: some real beef there. Now this isn't quite tenfoil fitted,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but you know, if you do know that after World
- 10:01Speaker 1: War Two, a lot of the German people, specifically those
- 10:05Speaker 1: in the Nazi Party wind it was down to Argentina.
- 10:09Speaker 1: So I'm sure the ones that are down there that
- 10:13Speaker 1: are you know, direct descendants from those they probably don't
- 10:16Speaker 1: love England either. If you know anything about World War two,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and you know, the kind of the whole setup of
- 10:21Speaker 1: that so interesting. I think, you know, and now you
- 10:24Speaker 1: see them matching up. I wonder when the people are
- 10:27Speaker 1: making the brackets, are they looking at it like, hey, honestly,
- 10:31Speaker 1: if you're the World Cup at this point, this is
- 10:33Speaker 1: your dream Final four, correct.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I would absolutely say so. I mean, this is this
- 10:40Speaker 2: is definitely a ratings dream. I actually tell this tweet
- 10:43Speaker 2: the other day too, that was really good. I want
- 10:45Speaker 2: to get into this later. Is about comparing the current teams,
- 10:48Speaker 2: the current teams in the World Cup Final four to
- 10:51Speaker 2: current NBA teams, which I thought was pretty funny. They
- 10:55Speaker 2: ext compared England to.
- 10:56Speaker 1: The Knicks, England to the Knicks.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, hey, I can throw mix of
- 11:01Speaker 2: references out there too, despite not being a Knicks fan.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know about this. I don't know
- 11:06Speaker 1: about this. Uh did this particular article? But yeah, I mean,
- 11:11Speaker 1: let's let's go ahead and get into it right now.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Talk to me what does this article say, because I
- 11:15Speaker 1: want to hear what the comparison is. I don't I
- 11:17Speaker 1: don't know a ton about I don't know, I don't
- 11:19Speaker 1: know a ton about any of these.
- 11:20Speaker 2: It's not an article. It's a it's a tweet, okay,
- 11:23Speaker 2: tweet comparing England to NBA teams. So I thought it
- 11:25Speaker 2: was pretty funny.
- 11:26Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 11:27Speaker 2: Comes from Onyx Odds and this was a day ago.
- 11:31Speaker 2: So they compared England to the Knicks. This one might
- 11:34Speaker 2: stay a little bit, but loud fan base might finally
- 11:36Speaker 2: be their year. Okay, Spain to the Spurs. I actually
- 11:40Speaker 2: like this one because this is actually kind of what
- 11:42Speaker 2: I was thinking when watching this match today, except for
- 11:45Speaker 2: in a different way I compared. So they compared Spain
- 11:48Speaker 2: to the Spurs elite defense led by a young superstar.
- 11:51Speaker 2: To me, it felt more like the Dynasty Spurs, where
- 11:56Speaker 2: you know, they didn't play the sexiest brand of ball,
- 11:58Speaker 2: but they won. Who cares like? They did what they
- 12:02Speaker 2: work with what they had. They don't straight from who
- 12:04Speaker 2: they are and if you don't like it, too bad,
- 12:07Speaker 2: move on.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:09Speaker 2: They compared to Argentina the Warriors. Can the goat carry
- 12:12Speaker 2: them one more time?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Okay? Okay?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Then France to the thunder dominant roster top to bottom.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, So I mean this Some of those are
- 12:26Speaker 1: just like narratives as as compared to like saying like
- 12:30Speaker 1: this team is like this team. It's just like, oh,
- 12:32Speaker 1: is there a similar narrative that we can make a
- 12:34Speaker 1: connection here. I get that, I hear that. You know,
- 12:37Speaker 1: I'm not mad at any of those I personally would
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm clearly just slightly biased. I think the strongest comparison
- 12:47Speaker 1: here is the Nicks and Jalen Brunson compared to Argentina
- 12:54Speaker 1: and Lionel Messi as far as having this one player
- 12:57Speaker 1: who just continues to get it done over and over
- 13:00Speaker 1: in the clutch that everybody is looking to, and and
- 13:04Speaker 1: and and especially with him being a somewhat diminutive guy
- 13:07Speaker 1: for that particular sport on the court or pitch. So
- 13:11Speaker 1: that would be my my my connection there. But I'm
- 13:14Speaker 1: not mad at it. I'm not mad at that, And
- 13:16Speaker 1: I like, uh, I love it when any when when
- 13:18Speaker 1: anybody you know decides to take their time and put
- 13:21Speaker 1: out something thought provoking like that, I'm always a fan
- 13:23Speaker 1: of it, no doubt, no doubt, even if I disagree
- 13:25Speaker 1: with it. But yeah, man, this England Argentina match is
- 13:29Speaker 1: going to be interesting, and then obviously the finals is
- 13:31Speaker 1: going to be you know, hopefully we can only hope
- 13:34Speaker 1: that it's as great as as that last World Cup
- 13:37Speaker 1: final was. But I feel like with Spain in it,
- 13:41Speaker 1: no matter what, they never let a game get crazy
- 13:43Speaker 1: like that. It's always going to be some level of
- 13:45Speaker 1: controlled just because that's how Spain is. But uh yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 1: the whole off sides thing, I personally, I've got to
- 13:53Speaker 1: figure it out. I know exactly how to fix off sides.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I know exactly what needs to be done for us
- 13:58Speaker 1: to still be able to keep the integrity of the game,
- 14:02Speaker 1: but also make it so it's a little bit more watchable,
- 14:06Speaker 1: especially for those of us here Stateside. Why don't they
- 14:11Speaker 1: make it so that it doesn't matter as long as
- 14:17Speaker 1: some part of your body is even with the defender.
- 14:21Speaker 1: So my thing is is that, Okay, you can't just
- 14:25Speaker 1: have people just hanging back on offense. That doesn't work.
- 14:28Speaker 1: That doesn't work in any sport. It doesn't work in basketball.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It doesn't work, and it doesn't work, it doesn't work
- 14:34Speaker 1: schematically over the long run, and it also just doesn't
- 14:38Speaker 1: work visually as far as the sport that you want
- 14:40Speaker 1: to watch. So therefore, if you just had it where
- 14:46Speaker 1: you still have to be even with the defender. But
- 14:50Speaker 1: this hole I'm leaning in, my arm is in front
- 14:52Speaker 1: of him. I should not be penalized because our feet
- 14:56Speaker 1: and bodies are in the same place, but I'm leaning
- 14:59Speaker 1: in the proper direct at the time. I just think
- 15:02Speaker 1: that that that I think that if you were to
- 15:04Speaker 1: just make it that if any part of our body
- 15:06Speaker 1: and then that would get very interesting with like you know,
- 15:09Speaker 1: a guy at the last second putting his foot or
- 15:10Speaker 1: something like that to be even back with the defender,
- 15:13Speaker 1: but then having almost his whole body in front of him.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I just think that would make it first more interesting,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and it would make it less confusing and less close
- 15:20Speaker 1: calls where you think it's definitely a goal, and then
- 15:23Speaker 1: when you look at it and replay, it's like, oh,
- 15:25Speaker 1: this guy's this much of his arm is in front
- 15:27Speaker 1: of the other guys, so they're fort's off sides. What
- 15:29Speaker 1: do you think?
- 15:33Speaker 2: I actually, I really agree with you. I think they
- 15:35Speaker 2: need to do something because it's like a little ridiculous
- 15:37Speaker 2: to see every goal taken away in every little like
- 15:40Speaker 2: diminutive or like minuscule move like oh, and everybody's put
- 15:44Speaker 2: their hands up, you know, looking for an off side
- 15:45Speaker 2: call or whatnot. But in the on the other side
- 15:49Speaker 2: of that token or the other side of the argument
- 15:51Speaker 2: it's kind of like, you know, how a ball barely
- 15:53Speaker 2: clips the strike zone, it's still a strike, right, guy
- 15:56Speaker 2: barely clips offside, still taking me offside. It's just it's
- 16:00Speaker 2: it's a terrible catch twenty two. But I'm more in
- 16:02Speaker 2: the favor of the former, where you gotta just allow
- 16:06Speaker 2: more scoring, Like you can't just if a guy's onside
- 16:09Speaker 2: the entire planet, guy just moves up or split second
- 16:11Speaker 2: the guy has a finger that's off side, Like, how
- 16:14Speaker 2: is that impacting the play?
- 16:15Speaker 1: So I actually think that your comparison of the baseball
- 16:20Speaker 1: and the strike zone is a great comparison, but I
- 16:22Speaker 1: think that it tilts into towards, you know, favoring my
- 16:26Speaker 1: rule change if you look at it a slightly different
- 16:28Speaker 1: way that the current off side rule is, like every
- 16:31Speaker 1: pitch has to be right down the middle, whereas if
- 16:33Speaker 1: you had it where they didn't where just as long
- 16:36Speaker 1: as any sort of part of your body was there,
- 16:38Speaker 1: then that means you're allowing me to operate more on
- 16:40Speaker 1: the edges, aka the edges of the strike zone. So
- 16:44Speaker 1: I actually think if you look at it slightly different,
- 16:46Speaker 1: that actually kind of helps my argument.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I don't know, I justly I'm here for more scoring.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I hear you. I hear you, and I just I
- 16:58Speaker 1: would like to see these guys, you know, if I
- 17:02Speaker 1: just don't understand, just as from the thought of just
- 17:05Speaker 1: the greatness of sport and what sport is supposed to be.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Me and this guy are even before the balls kicked,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I lean a little bit in one direction and he doesn't,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and I get penalized for that. Like my feet in
- 17:20Speaker 1: my and everything, like my where I am, my structure
- 17:23Speaker 1: is still in the same place. I don't know. I
- 17:26Speaker 1: just think that that's it's I don't know. I don't know.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I'm just listening. I'm sure that the people who are
- 17:30Speaker 1: watching this who love soccer are fucking losing their mind
- 17:33Speaker 1: right now because they're probably like, this is the stupidest
- 17:36Speaker 1: shit I've ever seen. I've put up clips, some of
- 17:38Speaker 1: the clips that I've put up with me tooking soccer,
- 17:41Speaker 1: of me playing soccer. Yeah, some some foreign people come
- 17:44Speaker 1: in and they're just like, just just just please, Americans,
- 17:47Speaker 1: just don't don't talk about soccer. I think it's hilarious.
- 17:50Speaker 1: But uh, all right, man, so you know we'll be
- 17:53Speaker 1: World Cup will be cool for sure. Before we get
- 17:58Speaker 1: into some former teammates getting into some fisticuffs. And before
- 18:04Speaker 1: we talk about Kawhi Leonard not only being you know,
- 18:09Speaker 1: having his trade rescinded, but now the investigation being relooked
- 18:13Speaker 1: into or expanded, let's talk about the Ringers top one hundred,
- 18:18Speaker 1: one hundred. So I called one of this with from
- 18:21Speaker 1: a from a clip that I saw of your boy
- 18:29Speaker 1: Max Kellerman and Rich Paul talking about the list and
- 18:33Speaker 1: shout to Max Kellerman as a guy who you know,
- 18:36Speaker 1: he's he's always he's consistently standing up for for for
- 18:40Speaker 1: my man Jalen Brunson. The other JB is we like
- 18:43Speaker 1: to call him on this podcast. But uh so Baum,
- 18:46Speaker 1: do you have the list pulled up? I do give
- 18:51Speaker 1: me the top.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Ten, all right? So in order the top ten Number one,
- 18:57Speaker 2: Shay Gills Us Alexander number two, Victor wembin Yama number three,
- 19:05Speaker 2: Nikole Jokic, number four, Luka Doncic, number five, yours truly,
- 19:11Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson, number six, Anthony Edwards, number seven, giannis Anto Takumpo,
- 19:21Speaker 2: number eight, Kawhi Leonard, number nine, Kay Cunningham and number
- 19:27Speaker 2: ten my guy personally, Stepan kurt Okay.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I had to pull up this. I thought I was
- 19:35Speaker 1: just gonna be able to react to it and talk
- 19:37Speaker 1: about a couple of things that I didn't like. But
- 19:41Speaker 1: there's so many things that I didn't like that I
- 19:43Speaker 1: that I need more time. Okay, So I need, I need,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I need, I need more. I need the full list
- 19:48Speaker 1: and to be able to see everything and really break
- 19:51Speaker 1: down how little some of these makes sense. So number
- 19:54Speaker 1: one two is Shay and Wemby. Okay, so number one
- 19:59Speaker 1: should be j Brunson. I don't think that that is
- 20:01Speaker 1: even a big shocker that I feel that way. But
- 20:06Speaker 1: how is number one not Jalen Brunson. Victor Wambamyana just
- 20:13Speaker 1: lost to Jalen Brunson. One to four. Best player on
- 20:20Speaker 1: this team, best player on this team. NBA Finals teams
- 20:25Speaker 1: are healthy. What else? What other measuring stick do we
- 20:30Speaker 1: need other than him out playing him in this series?
- 20:39Speaker 1: I don't get it. I mean, this is a recent list.
- 20:45Speaker 1: This is not a regular season list. This is knowing
- 20:48Speaker 1: what we now know. So what you're telling me is
- 20:52Speaker 1: is that you've totally totally ignored the NBA Finals. He
- 20:58Speaker 1: was actually hunting him. It's not like, oh, they play
- 21:02Speaker 1: totally different positions. No, no, no, no. He was saying,
- 21:04Speaker 1: you come out here, come guard me and Victor wem
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yama whmen Yama wemby the fuck ever you want to
- 21:12Speaker 1: call him. He was doing one of two things. He
- 21:15Speaker 1: was getting buckets or doing some dirty shit and trying
- 21:18Speaker 1: to hurt JB. Either way, forty five points in a
- 21:22Speaker 1: closeout game, Nixon five. What are we talking about? How
- 21:27Speaker 1: does the guy who couldn't beat the Spurs defense, who
- 21:31Speaker 1: the Spurs defense made him look like he has never
- 21:35Speaker 1: looked before? How is he ahead of the guy that
- 21:39Speaker 1: the very next series personally, single handedly with a bum hand,
- 21:46Speaker 1: by the way, destroyed that same defense. Somebody make that
- 21:52Speaker 1: makes sense? I mean, bom, talk to me, man, what
- 21:54Speaker 1: are we talking about here?
- 21:56Speaker 2: I actually want to add to this argument as well
- 21:58Speaker 2: to even further your point, Brunson. Not that I need
- 22:01Speaker 2: to give you any more, Ammo, but this caption on
- 22:04Speaker 2: bruntson in this article crafty magician of a point guard
- 22:09Speaker 2: whose postseason heroics have made him a full hero see
- 22:14Speaker 2: about Webby.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I mean, come on, man, listen, we're not talking about
- 22:19Speaker 1: like this. There's a conversation of if I had to
- 22:22Speaker 1: start my team with one player right now, for now
- 22:26Speaker 1: and moving forward, who would I pick? That's a question.
- 22:32Speaker 1: There's even a question of if I had to build
- 22:35Speaker 1: a team from scratch right now, and that's a slightly
- 22:37Speaker 1: different question. The question is the question of who are
- 22:42Speaker 1: the best players in the league right now? There's no
- 22:47Speaker 1: other answer than Jalen Brunson. It can't be he just
- 22:54Speaker 1: led his team. This is not I've watched Kobe win
- 22:58Speaker 1: championships when Kobe, who's my favorite athlete of all time?
- 23:04Speaker 1: That is a non Nick and Kobe when he won
- 23:12Speaker 1: the championship against Boston in that final game, he had
- 23:19Speaker 1: a bunch of rebounds, but he couldn't fucking shoot the ball.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Did not have a great game by his standards at
- 23:25Speaker 1: all offensively, but also showed you why he such a
- 23:29Speaker 1: champion because had a ton of rebounds, also played great defense,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and you know, did what he had to do. They
- 23:35Speaker 1: won the game. Ron oar Test hit some big shots.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I believe you know, La Martem's doing his thing. Anyway,
- 23:43Speaker 1: they win, they win a championship. That's Kobe Brunson. This
- 23:48Speaker 1: is not the case of oh, he was the best
- 23:50Speaker 1: player on the team that won, so therefore that's where
- 23:54Speaker 1: he won finals. MVP he won Finals MVP because he
- 23:58Speaker 1: scored more points than anybody else ever has other than
- 24:01Speaker 1: Michael Jeffrey Jordan in a close out road game in
- 24:05Speaker 1: the NBA Finals. What are we talking about with him
- 24:09Speaker 1: not being number one on this list? I don't understand, Like,
- 24:14Speaker 1: come on, Manute, what else does he have to do?
- 24:16Speaker 2: So?
- 24:16Speaker 1: So, so if he comes back and we win the
- 24:18Speaker 1: championship again next year and you know he's the unequivocal
- 24:23Speaker 1: leader both statistically, mentally, every aspect for the Knicks, what
- 24:30Speaker 1: does he move up from five to three?
- 24:31Speaker 2: Then?
- 24:33Speaker 1: How is the player that he just beat that he
- 24:38Speaker 1: was singling out and hitting huge threes or taking him
- 24:42Speaker 1: to the rack, giving him a liver shot, pump, fake
- 24:45Speaker 1: lay up. Let's go, How does that guy who came
- 24:49Speaker 1: out on the losing end of that and losing end
- 24:51Speaker 1: of the series four to one, explain to me how
- 24:57Speaker 1: he's better than this other guy, because most people would
- 25:01Speaker 1: say his overall supporting cast is better too. That's what
- 25:05Speaker 1: everybody was saying before the finals started, and everybody said
- 25:08Speaker 1: he was the best player in the series, maybe the
- 25:10Speaker 1: best player in the world. Well, when another player clearly
- 25:13Speaker 1: outplays you throughout the entire series, and has a record
- 25:16Speaker 1: setting performance in the closeout game. Please tell me how
- 25:19Speaker 1: he's not the best player in the world, Please, somebody, anybody, please.
- 25:22Speaker 1: That's some bullshit. And the rest of this there's a
- 25:26Speaker 1: shit all up and down the sland. First of all,
- 25:27Speaker 1: Joki Jokis is great. To me. Putting Djokich ahead of
- 25:35Speaker 1: Brunson is less egregious than the other guys, because then
- 25:39Speaker 1: I feel a little bit more like you're just looking
- 25:41Speaker 1: at it like, okay, who can do the most things
- 25:44Speaker 1: on the floor, and you know if you put him
- 25:47Speaker 1: in the right situation. But then Luka Dancic I hainte
- 25:56Speaker 1: when any conversation about sport doesn't start with availability. Luca
- 26:06Speaker 1: obviously offensively other worldly talent to defensively, it's not that
- 26:14Speaker 1: he's not good, he's bad, really bad. Jalen Brunson, despite
- 26:21Speaker 1: being at least five six maybe even six inches shorter
- 26:25Speaker 1: than him, is a much better defender than Luka Doncicic's.
- 26:30Speaker 1: And when you, I mean whether or not you're able
- 26:33Speaker 1: to play, it has everything to do with whether or
- 26:37Speaker 1: not you're on this list. I don't care how good
- 26:42Speaker 1: you are if you don't if you don't play, Luca
- 26:45Speaker 1: doesn't play. Luca had that one finals run I've never
- 26:48Speaker 1: ever seen, and he was hurt during that playoffs at
- 26:50Speaker 1: certain points, Luca doesn't play, So having him in front
- 26:54Speaker 1: of Jalen Brunson absolutely ridiculous. I mean, you know, whenever
- 26:58Speaker 1: we're talking about any thing when it comes to metrics.
- 27:02Speaker 1: You know, I made this comment on a buddy of mine,
- 27:06Speaker 1: shout to shout to XJ over at hot hand Theory.
- 27:09Speaker 1: They fucking do great work. They're super analytic. Him and
- 27:12Speaker 1: Jeff they are just I mean, if you want to
- 27:14Speaker 1: like learn some shit about basketball, fantastic. But I sometimes
- 27:18Speaker 1: disagree with him and I butt heads with him on
- 27:21Speaker 1: X because there's these stats to talk about, just like
- 27:24Speaker 1: overall gravity and mix this, and it's like, oh, this
- 27:27Speaker 1: is the perfect way to, you know, see your real
- 27:29Speaker 1: skill as a basketball player. And it's got Luke up
- 27:32Speaker 1: there high, and it's got guys like LaMelo Ball up
- 27:34Speaker 1: there high. And I'm like, does what's the stat that
- 27:38Speaker 1: measures heart clutch play leadership? Does that stat exist? Until
- 27:50Speaker 1: that that exists, we have to we have to continue
- 27:53Speaker 1: to trust our eyes.
- 27:55Speaker 2: It sadly does not exist. Something that you just can't quantify.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Us The beauty of it. Everybody thinks you can quantify everything.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Now there are certain things you just can't quantify, and
- 28:04Speaker 2: there's certain intangibles you just simply can't quantify. And that's
- 28:07Speaker 2: what makes some of those guys like Brunson so special. Also,
- 28:13Speaker 2: to go back to that Lakers game seven, I have
- 28:16Speaker 2: the box score here. Kobe Bryant had twenty three points
- 28:19Speaker 2: and fifteen rebuds in that game. Rebounds in that game
- 28:21Speaker 2: on twenty four shots. And yeah, Ron Ron twenty points
- 28:25Speaker 2: on seven of eighteen from the field, including only two
- 28:28Speaker 2: to seven from downtown. But there are both fourth quarter threes.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I believe that. Really I helped ice that game.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that second three IA game, I remember that for sure.
- 28:38Speaker 1: And yeah, man, I think that when it comes to
- 28:44Speaker 1: if there's any list has LaMelo ball as top five
- 28:48Speaker 1: in the NBA, I fucked that list. I don't care
- 28:51Speaker 1: what that stat is. It's not right, it's not correct.
- 28:53Speaker 1: He's not a top five anything. He's a top five
- 28:55Speaker 1: jackass in the NBA. Maybe, And I mean he definitely
- 28:58Speaker 1: he has he has skills, and he has stretches where
- 29:03Speaker 1: he looks great. But all you have to do is
- 29:05Speaker 1: watch him play like five full games throughout the season
- 29:08Speaker 1: and have any of those games be games where things
- 29:11Speaker 1: are tight in the fourth quarter, and you will see
- 29:15Speaker 1: a mental makeup that is not what you need from
- 29:19Speaker 1: one of your best players on a serious basketball team,
- 29:23Speaker 1: which is why the team that has had him his
- 29:27Speaker 1: entire career and just had their best season in like
- 29:30Speaker 1: a decade last year with him as their supposed best player,
- 29:36Speaker 1: decided to get him up out of there. I don't know,
- 29:40Speaker 1: Maybe Charlotte's just stupid. I'm not sure. But yeah, again,
- 29:44Speaker 1: so getting back into this list, you got Anthony Edwards six.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I think I would have Aunt a little bit higher
- 29:49Speaker 1: debt well, because Luca has just pulled out of the list,
- 29:52Speaker 1: of my opinion, everybody else has to reshuffle. And then
- 29:57Speaker 1: Jiannis again not not healthy enough. Kawhi just had a
- 30:01Speaker 1: year of being healthy. So okay, let's say we give
- 30:03Speaker 1: him the benefit of the doubt. Cade Okay, yes, Steph, Yes.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell at number eleven, absolutely not. I would move
- 30:10Speaker 1: him so far down from number eleven. I think Donovan
- 30:13Speaker 1: Mitchell is extremely talented. I think offensively he has times
- 30:17Speaker 1: where he is absolutely unstoppable. I've seen it. I've seen
- 30:20Speaker 1: the Knicks b on the opposite end of that, but
- 30:23Speaker 1: most of the time, at the end of the game,
- 30:24Speaker 1: the Knicks win. The Knicks had a summer where their
- 30:29Speaker 1: goal was to get both Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Last minute, the Donovan Mitchell trade falls through, he ends
- 30:37Speaker 1: up being traded to Cleveland instead. And first of all,
- 30:41Speaker 1: as an X fan, you have to realize, Danny Ainge
- 30:44Speaker 1: is never going to do any business with the Knicks
- 30:46Speaker 1: unless he is absolutely fleecing us. So whenever there's a
- 30:51Speaker 1: last year was with Walker Kessler, whenever there is some
- 30:54Speaker 1: sort of like trade you know, you know, rumor between
- 30:58Speaker 1: the Knicks and you, or even back when it was
- 31:01Speaker 1: Boston back in the day, I just immediately think he's
- 31:03Speaker 1: trying to drive up the price. But there's nothing, nothing's
- 31:05Speaker 1: actually going to get done. Danny ain'tging fucking with us.
- 31:11Speaker 1: But uh, you look at why was it, why did
- 31:16Speaker 1: I start talking about you, Oh, Donovan Mitchell, Donovan Mitchell. Yeah,
- 31:19Speaker 1: I'm telling he's just he's Brunston's been sonning him since
- 31:22Speaker 1: back when he was in Utah and Brunson was in Dallas.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And you know, he's one of those guys where he
- 31:29Speaker 1: has stretches where he looks like the man. It just
- 31:31Speaker 1: seems like they never happen at the end of games.
- 31:35Speaker 1: They just don't not enough. I think he's good. He's
- 31:39Speaker 1: He's a guy where if you just look at him
- 31:41Speaker 1: and if you were to just you know, put him
- 31:43Speaker 1: in a gym and look at all the things he
- 31:45Speaker 1: could do, or if you just look at his highlight reel,
- 31:48Speaker 1: you'd be like wow. But when you watch his entire games,
- 31:51Speaker 1: there's something left to be desired. In my opinion, Cat
- 31:54Speaker 1: at number twelve, you know, I actually don't think that
- 31:56Speaker 1: that's a I think Cat that's around where Cat is
- 31:58Speaker 1: somewhere in that ten to twelve range. I'd put him
- 32:01Speaker 1: in front of Mitchell on this list. I'd put Gianna's
- 32:05Speaker 1: just in front of Cat, even though Janni's has the
- 32:07Speaker 1: the injury issues. But I, for me, with the honest
- 32:10Speaker 1: I feel like I got one more year. Like if
- 32:12Speaker 1: Fiannis gets injured again this year, then it's like official,
- 32:14Speaker 1: Like he's just he's one of those guys. It's over
- 32:16Speaker 1: for him. He's gonna always be getting injured, you know,
- 32:19Speaker 1: that's just what he is. If that happens to again
- 32:20Speaker 1: this year. But you know, I'm gonna give him a
- 32:22Speaker 1: little bit of optimism Luca again, I know how good
- 32:26Speaker 1: he is, but he's got to come down. He's got
- 32:28Speaker 1: to come down. You know. I got Catt in front
- 32:30Speaker 1: of Luca availability period. And the thing about Karl Anthony
- 32:36Speaker 1: Towns is is that he is one of these guys
- 32:40Speaker 1: who usually does grade out extremely well on some of
- 32:43Speaker 1: these different metrics that measure things like gravity and stuff
- 32:46Speaker 1: like that, just because his size able to pull out
- 32:49Speaker 1: the other center and then you know, just all time
- 32:53Speaker 1: great shooter, you know, and we're seeing now that the past,
- 32:56Speaker 1: the passing continuing to expand and that part of his game.
- 33:01Speaker 1: And then also if he's able to give these consistent
- 33:05Speaker 1: defensive efforts like he was giving from January up through
- 33:09Speaker 1: and especially if he's able to get close to what
- 33:11Speaker 1: like playoff Cat D looks like I'd be okay with
- 33:13Speaker 1: him from January to the end of the season. I'd
- 33:15Speaker 1: be okay with that being his season, and then playoff
- 33:18Speaker 1: Cat goes up to that next level like we saw
- 33:20Speaker 1: this past year, I'm okay with that. And if he's
- 33:22Speaker 1: able to do that next year, along with him passing
- 33:27Speaker 1: the ball at a much higher rate, being much more
- 33:30Speaker 1: involved in the offense and the creation of it, and
- 33:33Speaker 1: then also what I presume to be a shooting year,
- 33:38Speaker 1: much more on par with what you typically get out
- 33:41Speaker 1: of Cat, specifically since there's no off season, possibly getting
- 33:44Speaker 1: trade for Gianni's Cat is a He's an emotional guy,
- 33:48Speaker 1: admittedly so from from his own self. So that last
- 33:53Speaker 1: offseason with everything and how that went with Giannis had
- 33:56Speaker 1: a lot to do with I think his whole psyche
- 33:58Speaker 1: going into the year and why we saw him, you know,
- 34:01Speaker 1: both looking like he wasn't exactly happy on the court
- 34:05Speaker 1: and shooting the ball way below what his typical career
- 34:10Speaker 1: averages are. So I think all that gets better next year.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Big year for Cat next year, for no doubt. But
- 34:16Speaker 1: this list, man, Yeah, you know, there's no argument for
- 34:20Speaker 1: Brunson not being number one. There's there's nothing you can
- 34:23Speaker 1: do more than what he just did to are to
- 34:27Speaker 1: to to make the argument that you are the best
- 34:29Speaker 1: player in the league right now? Yo, ball man, what's
- 34:34Speaker 1: up with uh bam on a bio Tyler hero they
- 34:37Speaker 1: meet in Vegas? Give us the details?
- 34:41Speaker 2: Okay, so you want the shams tweet? Right?
- 34:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So apparently what happened so yeah, these two
- 34:49Speaker 2: get together in Vegas over the weekend. Bams obviously their training.
- 34:53Speaker 2: His girlfriend Isiah Wilson. Obviously you know, players to the
- 34:57Speaker 2: Las Vegas aces of the w n b A, So
- 34:59Speaker 2: he's out there supporting. So we have that going on
- 35:04Speaker 2: July tenth, Sham's tweets bam Ata Bio and Tyler Hero
- 35:09Speaker 2: get got into a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday,
- 35:12Speaker 2: in which at a Bio struck Hero, sources tell ESBN,
- 35:18Speaker 2: then Shams follows it up. The altercation occurred at a
- 35:22Speaker 2: practice court in a Las Vegas hotel this morning, starting
- 35:25Speaker 2: when at A Bio approached Hero about comments the guard
- 35:28Speaker 2: made critiquing the center on social media after their seven
- 35:32Speaker 2: year run in Miami ended.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Okay, so a couple of things I think the idea
- 35:42Speaker 1: of and I've seen this. I've seen some people explain
- 35:46Speaker 1: this on just like tweets. But it's not like it's
- 35:50Speaker 1: not like an article. This is not like you know,
- 35:52Speaker 1: like like this isn't this isn't something from from Shams. Okay,
- 35:57Speaker 1: and they say that you know your man, Bam came up,
- 36:03Speaker 1: he said something. Hero clap back hard and then Bam
- 36:07Speaker 1: just didn't say anything, wow, hit him, called him on
- 36:10Speaker 1: an eye, Jammy, I've seen I, I've seen chin. I've
- 36:13Speaker 1: even seen a report that, you know, hero might have
- 36:15Speaker 1: had a bit of a shiner. I don't know who knows.
- 36:17Speaker 1: There's no photo evidence yet, but I think this is hilarious.
- 36:21Speaker 1: And I think this is hilarious for a few different
- 36:23Speaker 1: reasons because, first and foremost, this happens allegedly in front
- 36:32Speaker 1: of Heroes, AAU team, like a younger AAU team that
- 36:35Speaker 1: he like supports and coaches, So all these dudes watch
- 36:37Speaker 1: their coach catch one from bam and bam bam is
- 36:43Speaker 1: huge and people always talk about it. It's like strength
- 36:45Speaker 1: that he's supposedly like a huge like he's one of
- 36:47Speaker 1: the strongest guys in the NBA. Donnas Haslam was talking
- 36:50Speaker 1: about that when he was going back with back and
- 36:53Speaker 1: forth with Draymond, because Draymond had some comments about this,
- 36:56Speaker 1: basically overall saying like, hey all, y'all people who had
- 36:59Speaker 1: a problem with you know me and Jordan Poole, make
- 37:02Speaker 1: sure you keep that same energy when you're having when
- 37:04Speaker 1: you're having this conversation, and he specifically said something about you.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Donnis Haslem HASLM had a lengthy response to that as well,
- 37:10Speaker 1: basically saying like, Bro, you're not that dude. Stop keep
- 37:13Speaker 1: my name out of your mouth. And if Bam wanted
- 37:15Speaker 1: to he could have, really he didn't. He didn't, basically
- 37:17Speaker 1: saying like he hit him, but he didn't like really
- 37:19Speaker 1: try to take him out like you try to take
- 37:21Speaker 1: out Jordan Poole. I still say that that ship with
- 37:24Speaker 1: with with Draymond and Jordan Poole is some of the
- 37:27Speaker 1: craziest shit I've ever seen in my entire life. To
- 37:29Speaker 1: a dude who you have spent all this time in
- 37:32Speaker 1: the locker room with that, you know you You guys
- 37:34Speaker 1: have been teammates for this long. Teammates sometimes get in fights,
- 37:39Speaker 1: you especially being the bigger man in this situation, like
- 37:41Speaker 1: physically definitely. Draymond's never the bigger man, you know, in
- 37:46Speaker 1: any situation, unless we're talking about your actual physical size.
- 37:51Speaker 1: But him deciding to just load off and cold clock
- 37:55Speaker 1: this dude just and sneak him, that's some crazy shit.
- 38:01Speaker 1: He's that. We're very like, everybody involved is very lucky
- 38:05Speaker 1: that he didn't like really hurt this guy, like like
- 38:07Speaker 1: fucking you know, Rudy Tom Joanovitch this motherfucker, and so
- 38:12Speaker 1: I always thought that was crazy. But getting back to
- 38:17Speaker 1: this situation, you know, we don't have video footage, first
- 38:20Speaker 1: and foremost, but you know, it seems that, you know,
- 38:25Speaker 1: Tyler said some shit online. Bam said YO was good,
- 38:28Speaker 1: and he didn't immediately come with like YO, my bad,
- 38:31Speaker 1: blah blah blah. He came. We kind of like pop
- 38:33Speaker 1: back off and Bam poppedy. And you know, I don't
- 38:38Speaker 1: it's the it's it's heat people. So I don't really
- 38:41Speaker 1: care about it personally anyway, but just looking at it
- 38:43Speaker 1: from the outside without knowing all the details, I like
- 38:47Speaker 1: that Bam did that. I'm tired of people fucking typing
- 38:51Speaker 1: shit that they wouldn't say. I see that in my
- 38:57Speaker 1: life all the time between other people. I see that
- 39:01Speaker 1: in my life between people online and some of the
- 39:04Speaker 1: comment sections, and I see that sometimes you know it
- 39:08Speaker 1: sometimes in text and in group chats and shit like that,
- 39:11Speaker 1: where it's like, okay, all right, I read a text
- 39:14Speaker 1: and I'm like this, zero chance if we were sitting
- 39:16Speaker 1: right next to each other that you would say that
- 39:17Speaker 1: shit like that. And I'm not sitting here saying I'm
- 39:20Speaker 1: the fucking toughest guy in the room. But I do
- 39:25Speaker 1: think that at certain points people we need to get
- 39:29Speaker 1: back to a world where everybody can't just hide behind
- 39:33Speaker 1: a fucking keyboard and start talking in a way that
- 39:36Speaker 1: you would not talk if we were right next to
- 39:38Speaker 1: each other. And that is something that I think that
- 39:44Speaker 1: you know, you know, So I'm all for people saying
- 39:47Speaker 1: the wrong shit to the wrong person and getting dealt with.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I'm all for that. I'm all for that because because
- 39:55Speaker 1: you need to, you need to, you know, make sure
- 39:57Speaker 1: that you uh just you know, be who you are.
- 40:01Speaker 1: And you know, clearly Bam showed a Tyler hero that
- 40:05Speaker 1: you are not the dude who's gonna be running their
- 40:08Speaker 1: mouth recklessly about me or mine. That's not what it is.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I respect it, I do. But yeah, it'll be interesting.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I think we'll get a little bit more. First of all,
- 40:20Speaker 1: this happened in today's world, if it happened in a
- 40:23Speaker 1: gym that is like you know, like a like a
- 40:26Speaker 1: like somewhow affiliated with affiliated with the NBA in any
- 40:28Speaker 1: sort of way. There's video footage of this ship. We're
- 40:30Speaker 1: gonna get the footage. Sooner or later. It's gonna come out. Okay,
- 40:33Speaker 1: So we're gonna get to see that. And then obviously
- 40:35Speaker 1: this just makes any matchup between them. I mean, you
- 40:39Speaker 1: got you got Jaylen Brown going back to Boston, and
- 40:43Speaker 1: now you got Tyler Hero versus Bam outa bio. Both
- 40:48Speaker 1: both gonna be interesting storylines. And then Bron he still is, uh,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you know, out in the wind something. Something just came
- 40:58Speaker 1: out about Broun too long ago, bab what's going on? Lebron?
- 41:02Speaker 2: Correct? Shams was on NBA today earlier, He's received all
- 41:07Speaker 2: his pitches, He's claimed to have gotten all the infoies needed.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Right now, it seems like his top three are Philly, Miami,
- 41:15Speaker 2: and Cleveland.
- 41:20Speaker 1: So so what where is this out?
- 41:22Speaker 2: Now?
- 41:22Speaker 1: Totally out? I mean, listen, who knows Shams Sims? You know,
- 41:25Speaker 1: he only knows so much. You know, Lebron and his people,
- 41:28Speaker 1: they keep shit extremely tight. If I personally for him,
- 41:34Speaker 1: like if I was just like if I was looking
- 41:35Speaker 1: at this from like Lebron fan, or I was in
- 41:37Speaker 1: Lebron's camp, I would say, Bron, you wanna you want
- 41:43Speaker 1: to go to Cleveland because if you go to Cleveland
- 41:47Speaker 1: and you lose, you still end up having that thing
- 41:51Speaker 1: where it's like every team that you ever played for
- 41:54Speaker 1: he brought a championship, he still went there and gave
- 41:56Speaker 1: it one last run with them. And you know, when y'all,
- 41:59Speaker 1: when y'all get a eliminated on your home court by
- 42:01Speaker 1: the Knicks by twenty five, you can, you know, at
- 42:03Speaker 1: the end, you know, put your hand out and get
- 42:05Speaker 1: a nice applause from the Cleveland people and you know,
- 42:08Speaker 1: walk off the court like that. And I just don't
- 42:13Speaker 1: see the Philly thing. I think Philly could be good.
- 42:18Speaker 1: But when was the last time that people put a
- 42:20Speaker 1: team together like that where you added two players as
- 42:24Speaker 1: significant as him and Jaylen Brown and then that team
- 42:27Speaker 1: wins the first year. Really, that whole adding the superstars
- 42:32Speaker 1: thing hasn't been you know, we know that. You know,
- 42:35Speaker 1: we had Boston and then Miami and you know, but
- 42:38Speaker 1: that hasn't been working a ton here recently and definitely
- 42:41Speaker 1: doesn't work typically in the first year. It usually takes
- 42:43Speaker 1: a little bit of time to figure that out to
- 42:45Speaker 1: make things gel. I don't know if they got the
- 42:47Speaker 1: right coach either, Honestly, Nick Nurse, It's okay, I know
- 42:55Speaker 1: we got that one chip. You get that one chip
- 42:59Speaker 1: and to onto with Kawhi Teezer. Uh yeah, man, I
- 43:04Speaker 1: don't know, man, I don't know. If I don't know,
- 43:06Speaker 1: if I see that working, I think Cleveland's the move
- 43:09Speaker 1: down to Miami again again. I you know him, Him
- 43:13Speaker 1: and Giannis, I think are too similar players. They're both
- 43:17Speaker 1: players who love to drive the ball. Obviously, Lebron shoots
- 43:20Speaker 1: it a ton and shoots it much much better than
- 43:22Speaker 1: Giannis does. But they're both players who love to drive
- 43:25Speaker 1: the ball and impose their physicality. And so now when
- 43:28Speaker 1: you have Giannis getting the ball and he's squaring up
- 43:31Speaker 1: his man and you know, pounding the ball into oblivion,
- 43:34Speaker 1: but quite often leading to getting a very good shot,
- 43:37Speaker 1: Lebron's what doing doing? What standing in the corner? I
- 43:40Speaker 1: don't like it. I don't like it for Lebron. But
- 43:44Speaker 1: we'll see, We'll see how that works out. Are you
- 43:48Speaker 1: are Do you have you just given up on the
- 43:50Speaker 1: idea of him coming to the Dubs? Do you think
- 43:52Speaker 1: you're all still a dark horse?
- 43:54Speaker 2: I mean there's always a chance, just because of the
- 43:56Speaker 2: relationships him and Stepford obviously friends now despite all the
- 44:00Speaker 2: years of you know, battles and all that. Obviously him
- 44:03Speaker 2: and Draymond aer Matt close, So you know, there's never
- 44:07Speaker 2: there's always a chance. But I've just seen what the
- 44:09Speaker 2: words have done over the last few years just with
- 44:11Speaker 2: trying to acquire big name players, and they just keep
- 44:14Speaker 2: falling flat on their face and they give the fan
- 44:16Speaker 2: base the same old, you know, the same old excuse
- 44:19Speaker 2: in just a different form. Trays are hard, optionality something else.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I just it was really hard to believe to begin with,
- 44:27Speaker 2: there's always a chance, But you know, I just I
- 44:30Speaker 2: would get the film from the last four years of
- 44:32Speaker 2: the Warriors trying to acquire a big name guy and
- 44:35Speaker 2: it really hasn't worked out that great.
- 44:37Speaker 1: No doubt, no doubt. I hear you, I hear you.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I I am. I don't know. I still think that's
- 44:43Speaker 1: the best basketball story. Again, you know how I feel
- 44:46Speaker 1: about you know, if I was a dumbs fan, I
- 44:48Speaker 1: wouldn't want it personally, But I think it's the best
- 44:50Speaker 1: basketball story. I think it would be honestly the best
- 44:53Speaker 1: overall basketball situation for Broun. But more and more, to me,
- 44:58Speaker 1: it's feeling like Cleveland. I almost hope it. I'm not
- 45:02Speaker 1: scared of Philly with him or without him. I honestly
- 45:05Speaker 1: think that him going there just makes it such a
- 45:08Speaker 1: shit show. I don't know if they have the right
- 45:10Speaker 1: mental makeup to to to make that happen. And I
- 45:13Speaker 1: think that overall, now we're you know, I think with
- 45:17Speaker 1: Jaylen Brown going to Philly, they run the risk of
- 45:23Speaker 1: just delaying and somewhat muting Tyree Maxey's ascension because I
- 45:27Speaker 1: feel like he can be a guy who you can
- 45:29Speaker 1: start arguing, you can start talking about him. Is is
- 45:31Speaker 1: he a top five player in the league. I think
- 45:32Speaker 1: he's that good. I think he's that dynamic.
- 45:34Speaker 2: He's definitely a top five point hard In terms of Cleveland,
- 45:37Speaker 2: I went exact right, because you James Harden, that's that's
- 45:42Speaker 2: a disaster of itself. Like those two cannot be any
- 45:46Speaker 2: more opposite in terms of the way they approached the game.
- 45:50Speaker 2: That could be uh, that could be very problematic in
- 45:53Speaker 2: terms of comparing wanting Lebron to play. I actually wanted
- 45:56Speaker 2: to bring this up. I know this is not much
- 45:57Speaker 2: of a hockey hot asked, but this is interesting because
- 46:02Speaker 2: a very prominent hockey player actually waited on this today
- 46:08Speaker 2: and it's actually pretty irrelevant because he happens to be
- 46:10Speaker 2: the son of the head of sports medicine of the Warriors. Yeah,
- 46:14Speaker 2: back when Celavreni was asked about this today and he
- 46:17Speaker 2: said he would not want Lebron to join the Warriors
- 46:20Speaker 2: because having Stephan Lebron play together would have be having
- 46:23Speaker 2: like Cidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin play together. It just
- 46:27Speaker 2: wouldn't make a ton of sense for all the battles
- 46:28Speaker 2: they've had over the years. So lots of your point.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I found that super interesting when I saw him.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I see the comparison there. See the comparison
- 46:38Speaker 1: again again. If I'm Steph and I'm you know, and
- 46:43Speaker 1: I'm the Warriors front office and everything like that, or
- 46:46Speaker 1: any other Warriors players, I want Bron. I just wouldn't
- 46:48Speaker 1: want him as a fan personally. But I like that
- 46:50Speaker 1: comparison there between you know, that guy who have never
- 46:53Speaker 1: heard of or year were just talking about it might
- 46:58Speaker 1: have been Vegkin and at Sydney Crossby. I get that.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I get that. Did I know you? You you consume
- 47:04Speaker 1: all sports. I'm guessing you watched the Home Run Derby yesterday.
- 47:09Speaker 2: I was able to cast the first few rounds. Yeah,
- 47:11Speaker 2: it was fantastic.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I don't I have no honestly, the Home Run Derby.
- 47:16Speaker 1: It's been a long time since I've cared in about
- 47:19Speaker 1: a home run derby unless you know Pie Alonzo was
- 47:23Speaker 1: in it or or David Wright was in it, and
- 47:26Speaker 1: so I paid zero attention to it. I saw, you know,
- 47:29Speaker 1: you guys talking about it in the group chat a
- 47:31Speaker 1: little bit, and then you know I did, uh just
- 47:34Speaker 1: you know today, I you know, through watching some sports,
- 47:36Speaker 1: you know I heard that, uh, Jordan Walker won. But yeah, man,
- 47:40Speaker 1: I don't know. You said it was really good. Some
- 47:42Speaker 1: people say they like the new format, tell me about it.
- 47:44Speaker 2: So, yeah, the last couple of years the format has
- 47:47Speaker 2: been time, so like it's been like three minutes around.
- 47:49Speaker 2: You just keep going. It's like basically rapid fire until
- 47:52Speaker 2: the clock runs out. And there's some technicalities like if
- 47:55Speaker 2: you hit one in the final thirty seconds you get
- 47:57Speaker 2: a bonus time. It was just all sorts of confusing
- 48:00Speaker 2: this one. It went a little bit back towards the
- 48:03Speaker 2: OG format. So you're remember the OG format, you had
- 48:06Speaker 2: ten outs in the first round and then ten outs
- 48:10Speaker 2: in the second round, like five outs in the third.
- 48:12Speaker 2: This one was just twenty swings. Twenty swings are your choice,
- 48:15Speaker 2: and it just went and the pace seemed pretty good.
- 48:19Speaker 2: There were fewer home runs, but there were just less stoppages.
- 48:22Speaker 2: It was just a better pace, more consistent and the
- 48:25Speaker 2: first few rounds that I saw guy really tanks man
- 48:28Speaker 2: like Wilt Traires went up and he had won like
- 48:30Speaker 2: for eighty nine and within his first couple of swings.
- 48:34Speaker 2: You know, Walker had a good first round. Your boy
- 48:37Speaker 2: on your fantasy team, Munataka Murakami struggled the first round,
- 48:42Speaker 2: but he had a couple. He hit a couple of
- 48:44Speaker 2: upper tankers, as did Jack Taglione, so it was it
- 48:48Speaker 2: was really good to watch.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Interesting. Yeah, no, I've seen a lot of positive reaction
- 48:54Speaker 1: to it. Yeah, it sucks, man, because so I admittedly
- 49:03Speaker 1: the NBA. I follow the entire NBA. You know, I
- 49:07Speaker 1: follow the Knicks obviously to an extreme extent, but I
- 49:12Speaker 1: follow the entire NBA, and I have really since the
- 49:17Speaker 1: mid nineties. Football. I follow the Jets to a much
- 49:25Speaker 1: more extreme level than any other team. But football just
- 49:28Speaker 1: because of the fabric of it, and how fantasy works,
- 49:33Speaker 1: and how betting works, and how it gets so much
- 49:37Speaker 1: prime time where it's stand alone, and just overall how
- 49:42Speaker 1: it's covered in this country. I find myself to be
- 49:46Speaker 1: more well versed in football outside of the Jets than
- 49:50Speaker 1: in baseball where baseball I really just follow the Mets.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Like outside of the Mets, I we play in the
- 49:57Speaker 1: fantasy league that we play in, any of the like
- 50:00Speaker 1: the young prospects that I pick up and put up
- 50:02Speaker 1: on the NA, they're usually Mets, unless you know, I
- 50:05Speaker 1: either Birdie Whispers in my year from you know, one
- 50:08Speaker 1: of my friends who I know knows baseball, or I
- 50:13Speaker 1: you know, I'm looking something up online and find out
- 50:15Speaker 1: about some young guy that's coming up and I see
- 50:18Speaker 1: him first. Other than that, it's probably gonna be a
- 50:20Speaker 1: Met because that's the only thing, that's the only farm
- 50:22Speaker 1: system I'm following. And so with the Mets being just
- 50:26Speaker 1: an absolute total embarrassment this season, my whole baseball, my
- 50:37Speaker 1: whole baseball interest has waned considerably, and it's honestly, it's
- 50:42Speaker 1: never been this bad because typically even if the Mets
- 50:45Speaker 1: are bad, I'm still very invested in watching them. And
- 50:50Speaker 1: you know, trust me, I've had plenty of summers where
- 50:54Speaker 1: in June I know it's over and I still watch
- 50:57Speaker 1: eighty percent of the games, at least this year. You
- 51:03Speaker 1: have a combination of the level of hectic that my
- 51:08Speaker 1: life has been recently, especially with you know, my daughter
- 51:13Speaker 1: her team going all the way to States. We'll talk
- 51:16Speaker 1: about that here in a little bit, and my son
- 51:21Speaker 1: breaking his leg, and then you have the Knicks winning
- 51:25Speaker 1: the championship, which is twofold. You have a trip back
- 51:28Speaker 1: east involved. During that trip, the Mets were just continuing
- 51:33Speaker 1: to spiral, so I was just so busy then, you know,
- 51:36Speaker 1: you know, being back there just for a couple of days,
- 51:37Speaker 1: seen as many people as I possibly can, and then
- 51:40Speaker 1: also you know, going to the parade and whatnot, and
- 51:42Speaker 1: then also just the joy of the Knicks winning, where
- 51:47Speaker 1: I feel so joyful that I don't want to, like,
- 51:49Speaker 1: I don't want to kill my high. And then also
- 51:54Speaker 1: I can I could get my sports fixed on a
- 51:57Speaker 1: daily basis by just scouring for more Nicks information, Nicks celebration.
- 52:09Speaker 1: It's just there's so much time that I can spend
- 52:12Speaker 1: just you know, enjoying and thinking and reminiscing about the Necks.
- 52:18Speaker 1: And I'm shit, I have a ton of videos saved
- 52:21Speaker 1: on X right now about the Nicks that I haven't
- 52:23Speaker 1: even watched, just because you know, when I get a
- 52:24Speaker 1: free moment, sometimes I like to scroll through them and
- 52:26Speaker 1: just you know, maybe drop a tear, give a couple
- 52:30Speaker 1: of fist pumps, look off into the distance longingly and
- 52:35Speaker 1: just smile. Just smile, because my Knicks are the champs.
- 52:41Speaker 1: It's not gonna get old. It's been over a month.
- 52:44Speaker 1: It still feels just as good. I have a Nick's
- 52:47Speaker 1: flag in my front yard. I live in Arizona, so
- 52:49Speaker 1: it's a it's it's baby blue at this point, it's
- 52:53Speaker 1: it's I put it up during last season and it's
- 52:58Speaker 1: faded considerably. My wife was like, OK, we got to
- 53:00Speaker 1: get a new flag. I just said, no, no, no, no.
- 53:05Speaker 1: That flag is a champion. We can't take that flag
- 53:08Speaker 1: down at least until the beginning of next season. In
- 53:13Speaker 1: prior years, I switch off. I have the Mets flag
- 53:16Speaker 1: in the garage. I usually switch that out in the summer.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I still contend that since I started putting a flag
- 53:22Speaker 1: in my front yard, which is just the last few years,
- 53:24Speaker 1: the Jets have not deserved a flag. The Jets, you
- 53:27Speaker 1: gotta I need a little bit more for you before
- 53:29Speaker 1: you get a flag. And right now we're not going
- 53:35Speaker 1: back to the Mets flag. We're staying with the faded
- 53:39Speaker 1: baby blue, got some rips in it. New York Knicks
- 53:43Speaker 1: flag out there, and that flag is going to get
- 53:46Speaker 1: its entire summer and it's and it's just due as
- 53:49Speaker 1: a champion. My wife is like, you know, come on,
- 53:52Speaker 1: look at it. Look at the She's like, look at it.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Got rips and she went touch us. I don't touch it.
- 53:57Speaker 1: The flag is a champion. Leave it alone. Speaking of
- 54:02Speaker 1: Nick's get gear and paraphernalia and things like that, that's
- 54:07Speaker 1: some good. You know, I've been. I've been the amount
- 54:09Speaker 1: of times I spent tracking packages recently. It's one of
- 54:12Speaker 1: my favorite things to do. And quite a few nicked
- 54:15Speaker 1: things that have come through. And so I got this
- 54:19Speaker 1: yesterday in the mail. I had to get one with
- 54:38Speaker 1: the finals patch on it. Had to do it, and
- 54:40Speaker 1: had to do that and uh yeah, I now have
- 54:42Speaker 1: two Jalen Brunson's jerseys and uh and uh before before this,
- 54:46Speaker 1: I didn't wear jerseys, but uh had to be done. Listen, man,
- 54:52Speaker 1: I'm here to tell y'all there's some interesting websites out there.
- 54:55Speaker 1: It might take a little while for your stuff to
- 54:57Speaker 1: get get to you. It might, you know. And when
- 55:00Speaker 1: you look at the tracking and you know it starts
- 55:02Speaker 1: over in mainland China, it goes somewhere else, takes a
- 55:04Speaker 1: couple stops before it actually gets to you. But and
- 55:07Speaker 1: you're gonna be taking a chance because there's a chance
- 55:09Speaker 1: that it might get to you and you might there
- 55:12Speaker 1: might be a name spelled wrong, there might be a
- 55:14Speaker 1: patch that's hanging off this way or that way. Though.
- 55:19Speaker 1: You know, you go on next Twitter and you start asking
- 55:22Speaker 1: people how they feel about fanatics, they'll tell you some
- 55:24Speaker 1: horror stories. I've unseen some hats with the championship hats
- 55:27Speaker 1: where the little patch on the front championship that is
- 55:31Speaker 1: just hanging off to the side like this. So I
- 55:33Speaker 1: guess everywhere is a crapshoot these days. But yo, man,
- 55:36Speaker 1: you can go on and for a half maybe third
- 55:40Speaker 1: of the price, you can get you a jersey. Stitching
- 55:42Speaker 1: is nice, everything is good. But every time you open
- 55:45Speaker 1: one of these up as somebody who's taking this chance.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Many times it's not just me, but my father as well.
- 55:51Speaker 1: There's been some times where it gets home and you know,
- 55:53Speaker 1: you open it up and you look at it and
- 55:54Speaker 1: it's like that one was a miss. But it's worth
- 55:57Speaker 1: the risk because I'm telling you, more times than that
- 55:59Speaker 1: you end up getting something that's fly. Can't Nobody told
- 56:02Speaker 1: me that's not that's not that's that's not all authentic
- 56:04Speaker 1: as it gets. Can't nobody tell me that. But sometimes
- 56:09Speaker 1: right after you go to the parade, and you and
- 56:12Speaker 1: your dad and your cousin are walking up Church Street
- 56:17Speaker 1: in New York City, in Lower Manhattan, and you are
- 56:21Speaker 1: enjoying just the overall vibe. Everybody's out, everybody's you know,
- 56:25Speaker 1: screaming Nixon five. People are wilding out, having a good time,
- 56:28Speaker 1: but all peaceful, all love. And as you're walking down
- 56:32Speaker 1: the street, you might see a guy selling a shirt.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Your pop sees him first. He rolls over to him,
- 56:39Speaker 1: kiss the shirt. Nice shirt, comes over to me. I
- 56:44Speaker 1: touch it. I'm like, yo, it's like dryfit material. That
- 56:47Speaker 1: shit is nice. How much was it? He said? Twenty bucks?
- 56:50Speaker 1: I go, oh, dad, I'm sorry, I don't have any
- 56:53Speaker 1: cash on me. He looks at me like this fucking
- 56:56Speaker 1: guy pulls out twenty He's like, come, okay, get to
- 56:58Speaker 1: get this shirt. I get the shirt. I'm like, yeo,
- 57:03Speaker 1: the shirt is great. Hype happy about the shirt. Get
- 57:05Speaker 1: home with the start, you know, go all the way
- 57:07Speaker 1: back here to Arizona. Wear the shirt once. I was
- 57:11Speaker 1: going to wear it for last week's episode. Last week's episode.
- 57:16Speaker 1: I put it on, I keep myself in front of
- 57:17Speaker 1: the camera. I look at the camera and for the
- 57:20Speaker 1: first time, I realized, this beautiful, beautiful shirt. Look at
- 57:32Speaker 1: it right, got the whole Brunson, MVP Champion, all that stuff.
- 57:38Speaker 1: But take a closer look. Who is Jalen Bronson. So
- 57:51Speaker 1: I already showed you guys a couple of weeks ago.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I showed you the shirt that I got when I
- 57:55Speaker 1: first got to the city where you know, it's not
- 57:58Speaker 1: Michael Bridges, it's some dude named Michael Bridgewater on there.
- 58:01Speaker 1: And none of the players are exactly themselves. They look
- 58:04Speaker 1: a little bit off. And that shirt right there that
- 58:07Speaker 1: I just thought was the fucking I love this shirt,
- 58:10Speaker 1: and you take a closer look, and says Jaylen Bronson,
- 58:16Speaker 1: I was like, yo, man, it's it's a it's a
- 58:19Speaker 1: cool New York story to go get a bootleg shirt
- 58:23Speaker 1: and have some shit be misspelled or the people not
- 58:25Speaker 1: be the correct people. But yeah, man, I got got. Actually,
- 58:28Speaker 1: my pops got got He got got twice because he
- 58:30Speaker 1: got one for himself and he got one for me,
- 58:33Speaker 1: and he didn't notice either because I wore it to
- 58:35Speaker 1: his crib on Sunday and was like, yeah, great shirt, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 58:40Speaker 1: who's Jaylen Bronson? And we all had a good laugh
- 58:42Speaker 1: about it. And then so then that shirt we were
- 58:45Speaker 1: all laughing about it. And then my six year old
- 58:48Speaker 1: the next day. Next day, I think, is when the
- 58:51Speaker 1: Brunson jersey comes and I put it on, I just
- 58:54Speaker 1: got you know, I get it. I put it on.
- 58:56Speaker 1: I walk out into the you know, to the living room.
- 58:58Speaker 1: My son is like, oh, oh ya, my son got
- 59:01Speaker 1: a dope shirt too, with all the Knicks's got bridges going,
- 59:04Speaker 1: which my which my son thinks is hilarious. She's gotta regred.
- 59:07Speaker 1: We got him a real good shirt too. But uh,
- 59:10Speaker 1: when I came out with the with the jersey on,
- 59:13Speaker 1: my six year old looks at me and says, but
- 59:15Speaker 1: does it say Brunson or Bronson? Cloud of me? Yo,
- 59:23Speaker 1: cloud of me?
- 59:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 59:24Speaker 1: Man, But I got got bro I got got twice.
- 59:28Speaker 1: I got got twice when I was back there. But
- 59:29Speaker 1: I still wear both of those shirts with pride. It's
- 59:31Speaker 1: part of the experience. And I'm almost I got I
- 59:34Speaker 1: got I'm almost done. I got all the all the
- 59:36Speaker 1: orders online. My my wife's got an O G shirt.
- 59:39Speaker 1: She got another Nick shirt that's got the got the
- 59:42Speaker 1: like the Knicks players, like like all the starting five
- 59:45Speaker 1: with like their signatures on them. I couldn't believe she
- 59:47Speaker 1: brought three shirtscause I'm all trying to get her to
- 59:48Speaker 1: buy more ship for herself. She's she's super frugal, but
- 59:51Speaker 1: she wented. She she she got caught up in the
- 59:53Speaker 1: Knicks either too. She needs to get herself some shirts.
- 59:55Speaker 1: And then she got like it's like a like a
- 59:57Speaker 1: light purple and it says like Nicks, like like some
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: old school type ship like across the top. And then
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: and then it's got like matching shorts too, and I
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: with the with the you know, the Knicks on the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: shorts too. She got that and I was like.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Show.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: You you you know, just just wear that with caution
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: around me. Okay where that would cast from that one,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: you know the Knicks top and bottom with the where
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: that was caution around me? But uh yeah, man, the
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: uh the the only gear I got left coming is
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: is I got my customs sneaks that are supposed to
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: be here tomorrow from Nike. I made some custom sneakers.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: They got some orange and some blue in them. Some
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: some some some dunks.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: So you know, I'm excited to get those. And then
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I have I have an alert on on on on lids.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I think it's on lids. Yeah, it's on lids. Alert
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: on lids for the uh the Knicks hat with the
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: finals patch on the side, the hats they were wearing
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: right after they won. I don't like them. I just don't.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I've tried. I tried my talk, talking myself into it
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: multiple times. It's not into it. But they got one
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: that on the side it says, you know, has a
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: little crust right here that says NBA Champions in blue.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Uh uh seven and five eight seah, I got a
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: big dome. But yeah, I'm I'm looking forward. I got
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: an alert for that when it gets back in stock.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: It's currently not in stock. So if in the comments,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: you you you know where you do, you know a
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: place where you can find that, you know, make sure
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: that you uh that you hit me and and let
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: me know where I can get it, because I've went
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: on multiple times and every single time it has been
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: in the UH it's been it's been unavailable unfortunately. But
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: that's it, man, that's it, And I'm not getting anything
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: that's not true, I got one o the things that
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: I want to get. I'm kind of giving myself a
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: little bit of a probationary period where I don't buy
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: any more Nick's gear. But I got one more thing.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: The same people that make that shirt that I have,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: that the the the og Tip of God shirt, they
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: also make a they also make a shirt that's just
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: the whole shirt is Jalen Brunston's face and he's got
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: one of those on And just since the King of
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: New York across the top, I gotta have it. I must.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to get that for sure. NBA Summer
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: League bomb Now, I'm gonna be honest. I have watched
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: zero Nick Summer League Summer League games just due to
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: due to their being, you know, just scheduling conflicts and
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: shit like that, not being able to There's one game
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: where the world couples on and I was like, eh,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: which one? You know, what do I do? But the
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: games haven't always the games. That's a whole hard to
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: find NBA games thing, even in the Summer League. Sometimes
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: it's like where do I find this game? But what
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I have noticed is that these top these these top players, man,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: and because I've watched a lot of highlights of the
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Summer League. I watched a lot of highlights of the
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Nick Summer League. Three players in particular what I all
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: talk about in a second, but the Bonsa Peterson, Kayla Wilson. Yo,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: all these little young boys, all these motherfuckers are showing out.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: I mean look like they are polished, ready to go
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: NBA players, and they look like studs. You got. Then
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: it's not just them having big nights, but specifically I've
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: seen all of those three show out, and it's looking
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: like this this draft is as advertised.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, I mean I've been able to you know,
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: from my own personal scheduling call, I have been able
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: to catch much of US suber League either up until
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: really like this past year, everything was on ESPN or
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: ESPN two. Now you have some of the games on
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: ESPN or Prime. So yeah, it is very hard to
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: find to begin with, very annoying and frustrating, you know
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: as a fan, but it is what it is. But yeah,
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: those three, you know, shown out, and you know what
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: was especially good for us Darren Peterson considering all things
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: considered him coming in with what happened at Kansas, I know,
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: It's been talked about a nauseum in our chat about
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: you know, we go back to availability. His lack of
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: availability was quite something this past year. I've never seen.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: It was really unprecedented for a college athlete. And you know,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: so far, he's really shown out and looked good. Debonta
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: has looked every bit the part of the guy who
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: was the top recruit in the nation last last year
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: and the number one pick in this draft. And yeah,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: the way you talk about Jayalen Brunson is the way
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna talk about my guy, Calen Wilson as a
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: UNC fan. He has been fantastic so far. That dunk
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: last night was crazy.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: He's nice, man, He's nice. Uh you know again, polished
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: jump shot for all three of them, jump shot, handle
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: the ball, you know, okay, you know score on multiple levels,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: can get all the way to the rim and finish.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: All three of them look like they're studts. And you know,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Boozer looks like just the guy that we expect, which
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: is gonna be super solid. I hate for Boozer's sake
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: that he ended up in Memphis. I love for my
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: sake that none of these guys ended up in Indiana.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Them deciding to punt the season and then you know,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: having getting getting zoobots or whatever, and then that being
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: the reason why they don't get a fucking draft pick,
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: to me is wholehilarious. I mean, come on, man, you
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: had your chance to do like the Spurs thing they
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: do what the Spurs did with Duncan and with Robinson,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: where you know, you have this good team, but your
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: best player he's hurt. So you guys get the top
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: pick or one of the top picks, and they end
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: up getting nothing, especially from the Pacers. I fucking love it.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: But uh, I think that the.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Overall opportunity and it's just it just struck out at it.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, but he was the consensus number one. No, no, no, the.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: Warriors, Yeah yeah, he was. He was. It was either
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Hammer Ant, So.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody that was kind of like that's you know,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: I feel like that was kind of the end of
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: like that was like the nail and the coffin of like, oh,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: you got to take the big man because you know,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: we saw what he ended up being, and we saw
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: a white what Ant ended up being. Okay, okay, okay,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: my bad, my bad bad. Yeah, So he was the
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: consensus right, so he was a consensus pick at number
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: two then for sure, Okay that makes more sense, that
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: makes more sense. But uh yeah, Wiseman, Yeah, it seemed
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: like you know, them getting a big man that made
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: so much sense. Uh yeah, yeah. I just you know,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: these guys that we see now seems like more and
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: more they're just coming with a level of skill that
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: we've never seen before. And you know, like I said, this,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: this draft class is looking like it is everything is
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: has been you know, predicted to be for I feel
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: like a couple of years now they've been talking about
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: the twenty six draft and you know, the Knicks, they
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: once again find some guys who look like they could
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: be a diamond in the rough. They've had a great,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: a great track record here recently with getting guys who
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: are in the second round or later who have ended
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: up becoming real contributors. And then this year you got
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Tyler Nickel. This kid can shoot the ball. He is
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: not like some unathletic has to catch the ball with
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: his feet set, no, no off movement off the dribble,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: going away from the basket side stat He's got it all. Okay,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: kick and shoot, take it to the rim. A little
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: bit better than I thought. And I didn't know that
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: he competed on the defensive end quite like he does,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: which that is definitely going to get you some minutes.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: I could see Tyler Nickel really being a guy who
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: actually does get some significant minutes for the Knicks this year.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: This guy Klee out of see Germany or French. No,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: he's French. Yeah, this guy Kale is he German or French?
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: He's German. I think he's German, but he is. In
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: his previous game, he had seventeen points, He had a
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: couple of steals, he had a couple of assists. He
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: can handle the ball. You can already handle the ball
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: better than Deuce right now, jump shot, high release, and
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: overall I see him being a guy who can be
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: a combo guard down in the rotation and can maybe
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: compete with a guy like Tyler Kolloch for some minutes.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: So it's going to be interesting to see, you know
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: what these guys. First of all, there's some people saying
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: that Kale might not even end up being, you know,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: on the knickt roster. Nickel probably will be. And then
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: we still have the question of the number three center
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Robbins has looked pretty good. He's tall, he can shoot,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: he's willing to bang. So can he be a guy
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: that can sneak in and be that that third center?
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Trey Jamison, to me, is a guy who still has
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: to be in that conversation. Some people have talked about
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: bringing back so hand, but it's very nice to not
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: really give a fuck about the NIXT Summer League this year,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: to know that really none of these players matter that much.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Dia Ware is not playing that well in the summer league,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I don't care. I still think the Ware is a
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: guy who can contribute on the team this year and
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: can continue to blossom and maybe someday be like a
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: og light. I feel like sometimes as players when they
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: don't especially if they don't have a point guard, and
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: now they go to the summer league, and this is
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: a guy who, when he's typically playing on the floor,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: he's the person that the least amount of attention is
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: being being applied to him, and so he's catching the ball,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: he's wide open, and now all of a sudden, you
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: put him in a summer league situation where you're asking
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: him to handle the ball a lot more, create a
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: lot more I've seen a lot of guys fall off
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: when it comes to that. And even with me reacting
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: to the Summer League as I am right now, I
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: can remember a time when I saw a Summer League
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: of Kevin Knox and I thought that he was like
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: gonna be the next coming, you know de Bonsa right now,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: and hearing people talk about him being, you know, like
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: a Tracy McGrady type. I like that comparison, just the
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: overall height, specifically on the wing, along with the overall
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: skill set. But you got a lot to live up
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: to that, to live up to Tracy McGrady in my eyes,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: because he, to me is he's one of the his peak,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: the peak, but McGrady is top three small fours that
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I've seen in my lifetime. I love McGrady. I love
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: his game. And uh McGrady. Oh another I saw I
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: saw somebody. I saw somebody online saying that Tracy mc
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: that Paul George was much better than Tracy McGrady. I
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: think that's the most absurd thing that I've ever seen.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: You had to you had to be you have to
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: be young, you have to be young, and you're just
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: looking at stats and I know, I wonder even if
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: the stats are are that are that drastically and Paul
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: George's favor because he's had so many injury plague seasons
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: as well, And just if you watch both of those
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: players play in their prime as I did, Tracy McGrady
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: is just a clear better player. It's not even it's
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: not even a fucking question. Paul George versus Paul George
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: versus Team at Baum, who you got?
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: You know, I'm going to Team at Here for sure.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: I saw the Bonta play in the NCAA tournament in
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: person in Portland this year in the first round, and
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: my god, he was electric. He threw out a t
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: MAC level dump at one point. It was like a
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: dribble right go to the hoop and then just turn around,
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: reversed off. It was really saying.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: He's special, for sure. He really is. You know, he's
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: one of those guys. Can can he change around an
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: entire franchise? A franchise that's been known for being somewhat
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: inept here recently in the Washington Wizards. I think he's
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: got a chance.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: I feel like he absolutely can. I just I really
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: like the way he approached the game at YU. I
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: really like the way he carries himself. I feel like
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: he has that maturity as a leader to do something
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: like that. Can he fall? Can he coexist with Trey
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Young and Anthony Davis is the real question.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: I would feel better about his chances if they hadn't
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: just signed Trey Young to that contract, which is the
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: most puzzling contract in the entire NBA. Off Saysn't to me,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: I don't know what Trey Young has done for you
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: to feel like, yeah, let's let's go ahead and let's
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: throw this amount of money at him. And we had
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: this many years. You know, it looks like they're trying
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: to get off of a d There's only so much
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: you can do for that. But at least once you
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: clear that contract, that is a huge, you know, a
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: huge space that you can, you know, replace with another
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: big time player. But it's gonna be a little bit
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: a while, and it's gonna have to be because the
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: BONSA is unbelievable. Before you're gonna get any big time
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: players to want to go and sign with Washington. That's
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: typically the type of team that if you're gonna want
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: to be able to attack that type of talent, you're
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: gonna have to trade for the Tray Young contract. I
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: don't get it. And also again, Trey Young is a
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: guy who, yes, he will average a bunch of assists
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: eight nine, could be ten to eleven assists. He has
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: the ball in his hands a ton. I think the
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: bonsa in very short order by like next season, not
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: maybe not this upcoming season, the season after that, You're
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: gonna need to have that ball, the ball in his
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: hand for the majority of the time. You know this again,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: we've talked about this before, this whole like uh, you know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: having all these different players kind of just choose like
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: my turn your and I think that we're going to
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: continue to see that the way to build a team
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: is having as opposed to having the biggest collection of
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: the shiny object best parts, It's going to be about
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: having the parts that all coincide and work with each other.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: And quite frankly, I don't think Trey Young is a member.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: He's not a prominent member of a winning team period.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: All right, So my daughter's team, I told you guys
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: last week that they were moving along in the state tournament.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: We're out here in Maricope, Arizona. They had already gotten
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: further than any amercopa team ever has before. We had
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: quite a few teams this year, or at least we
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: had four teams this year that at least qualified for States,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: and we got fourth place. They played a team on
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Friday night last week. The girl that was pitching on
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: the other team was phenomenal. I mean she was she
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: she was throwing absolute gas. She was getting the high
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: strike call. She was throwing, she was pouring in the strike.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: She was great. She was fantastic. You know, I've not
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: it's the most I've ever seen our hitters on this
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: team struggle. And so yeah, we got we got wax Day,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: they got us. Then we won a game, close game,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: four to three. Awesome. My daughter had the game winning
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: RBI on a on a sack fly and then we
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: came in and got three outs and won the game.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: It was awesome. Excuse me. And then the and then
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: you know, we had to win two games the next
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: day to be able to get to the championship game.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: But we were assured then of at least winning fourth place.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: We lost the first game. It was a tough one.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: We didn't play our best. We just didn't overall as
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: a team. Everybody, you know, it's not one player in particular,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: just in the field specifically where we're usually really really tight.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: We just had a couple more mistakes than we typically do. Offensively,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: we weren't able to get a lot going. We weren't
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: able to string together hit or hit here and there, whatever,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: but we weren't able to have that big inning like
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: we typically can. And overall, as always, a you know,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: umpire didn't love it. There was only one umpire, which
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: is crazy because all throughout the season you have at
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: least two umpires, and for this entire tournament, like the
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: lines weren't done so well, there's only one umpire. There
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: was a couple issues, okay, especially for this being States.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: I was like, what's going on here? How was like
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: our local games down here in Copa, you know, not
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: that run a little bit more tighter than the States are.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: But it's super hot out there as well. And you
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: had some umpires that were, you know, dealing with some
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: issues with the heat. One that was called like our
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: our president down here in Copa, he had a you know,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: an episode with the heat, very very scary. We were
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: all happy to hear that he's fine and you know,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: everything is good, but you know, not having two umpires
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: was pretty whack. I thought there was one play where
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: a ball gets gets gets bunted, it comes down, hits
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: the ground, then hits the girl's foot and she runs.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: The first umpire, you know, doesn't call anything, says fair ball. Now,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: the rule Air is that if it hits her foot
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: she's inside the box, it's a foul. If it hits
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: her foot and she's outside of the box, then it's running.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: His interference, Blue says it never hit her foot. He's
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: behind the catcher and the batter, and he's supposed to
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: see if the ball hits her foot in the front.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: It's impossible. Call for him impossible. But we did not
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: lose because of the umpires. Okay, so we lost. And
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: then on Saturday, his son's got a basketball game, and
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: well he doesn't have a game, as if you watch
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: the show, he's got a broken leg. He broke his
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: leg five minutes into the first gin of the season.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: But you know, he's not my lead assistant, and you know,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: I'm still coaching a team. We are currently four to
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: ozho and we beat this team by quite a bit.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: It was a whole lot too to a very little
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: and they had a They had a parent over any
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: other side who was really upset with the referees. They
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: were really upset. They felt like we were getting all
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: the calls. The the scoring margin was so wide in
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: this I'm not saying because these because it was kids
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: that were playing. I'm not gonna say what the score was,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: but it was so wide that it's absurd to feel
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: like the refs are having any type of effect on
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: the outcome of this game. And you have them getting
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: very upset with the refs. They don't understand the game.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: They don't know the game. Okay, they're there. At one point,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: I heard them at one point saying something about the
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. This is basketball we were playing. And
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: then at another point they were saying something about they
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: were saying that we should be called for defensive three seconds.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: We run a zone, so we comet defensive three seconds
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: every single possession on defense. The problem is is that
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: defensive three seconds is a call that only exists in
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: the NBA and not at any other level of basketball.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: And then there was a play where they call it
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: travel on my guy. My guy did travel. In this league,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: you're not allowed to play defense in the back court
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: until the second half, and only if the game is
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: within ten in the second half. I don't know what
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: it is what it is. So therefore, when my guy
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: travels and the ref says travel, I say, but they're
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: playing defense in the back court. And he looks and
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: he goes, you're right, blue ball. So they reverse the call,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: give us the ball. Now the ire of the parents
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: on the other side is now turned towards me. They
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: don't like me. I'm too serious, he thinks, hees this.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: I won't get in the whole bit of details, but
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: they're talking. They're saying crazy stuff the whole game afterwards,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: asking their one else, his kid, not to give me
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: that he can shake my team's hand, but not shake mine.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: And throughout the years of watching these youth sports, coaching
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: these youth sports, you see a lot of parents who
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: get really super invested on game day. They get really
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: invested on game day, and you can tell that they
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: so badly want their kids to be good and to
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: be out there shining. The funny part about this game
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: and the way that it ends up and everything is
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: by the way, our best player, he's sitting over here
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: in a cast. As bad as it was, it would
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: have got real scary for y'all if we'd have had him.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: But now you have this guy making it all about himself,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: and he's got all this energy. Like I said, that
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: is just really really focused and really really hyper excited
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: about today's game and wanting his kid to do his thing.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: And unfortunately, what he doesn't understand is all that energy
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: that you have today on game day, if you want
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: your kid to do his thing, that energy is on
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: a random Tuesday, a Wednesday, a Thursday. That's when that
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: energy that you have towards the referees and towards the
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: opposing coach, take that energy and channel it into your son,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Channel it into your daughter, channel it into your kids.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Because people always make the mistake. And people have said
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: things to me like, well, everybody's not just, you know,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: born with like the ability of your kid. He's born
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: with some natural god given talent, no doubt. But what
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: we're seeing out here when he's running circles around, y'all,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: When my team without him is running circles around, y'all,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: that's not because we all got lucky and I just
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: got lucky and got these kids on my team. That's work.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Put that work in on a Tuesday, and then maybe
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: you'll get the results that you want on a Saturday.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: And then there's this other thing where when your team
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: is smacking their team, and you're still the one who
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: is hype cheering on your team, telling them when they're
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: making mistakes, getting after the referees when they're not doing
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: what they're supposed to be doing, when I'm still the
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: one and I'm still intense to them like that, Now,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: all of a sudden, the familiar refrain that I hear
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: is that I'm too serious. Oh, he's too serious, or
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: they're too serious. You are absolutely right. We take this
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: much more seriously than you do. And that's clear by
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: the product that's been put on the court, all these
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: people in youth sports who want to get so emotional
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: and get so serious and they're so so invested in it.
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: First ball, does your kid do they care that much?
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Have you personally with the way that you care about it,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: have you infused that in them? Or have you imposed
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: that on them? Because it's two totally different things. So
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: next time you think about how it feels to get
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: waxed on a Saturday, let that inspire you to put
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: in some work on a Tuesday Baum. I know that
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: you have reffed some youth sports. You know, you've you've
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: obviously played a ton of youth sports in your day.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: Anything else you get you'd like to add, or anything
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: you got to say on that.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: I you know it was a former official, you know.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: I think there's a there's a line in a way,
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: but I don't think anything that you've done really crosses it.
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: I think you and I I were officiating your game,
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: probably a pretty good banter back and forth. I think,
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: you know, there's some officials who literally don't care. They
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: don't show up on time of games. They never get
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: in themselves a posision to make a call. They deserve
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: to get yelled at. My crazy I've been the other
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: official with two other officials who show up twenty minutes
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: late in the game is starting and I'm trying to
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: referee the game and do the scoreboard by myself at
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: the same time, and then they end up getting yelled at.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: And while I step into the heat of the moment
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: like my back by rays, they serve it. So there's that,
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: you know, I do officiate kickball now voluntarily as well.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: There's a lot that goes on there it's a little different.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: There's a lot more li dation involved in that, and
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: there's people who've had a few pops and a few
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: shots or mixed drinks or something like that when it
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: comes to that, and there's you know, a lot that
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: goes on there. But I think if an official is
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: doing the job to the best of the ability, because
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: reality is, are going to miss some stuff. Let me
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: tell you, I'm not perfect. I was not. I do
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: miss some things, but I feel like even the most
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: intense coaches can ration what the official.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Honestly, I think when it comes to dealing with the refs,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: first of all, the crowd. When you're in the crowd,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: I think that you can the rest shouldn't even be
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: paying attention to the crowd in my opinion, personally, I
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: don't think that they should. I think they should be
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: totally blocking them out. I think that you should be
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: able to come at the rest as much as you
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: want in the crowd. But I realize with youth sports,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: and especially when you have youth officials or referees, that
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: that's got to be chilled out to a certain extent.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: That's just personally how I feel about it now. When
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I am watching like the baseball game. There was even
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: a comment made after the season about this fact, the
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: fact that you know, I didn't get a warning this year,
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: and that was pretty impressive because typically I'm I'm gonna
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: get a warning here there, you know, chirping a blue
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: at a baseball game, and this blue. You can tell
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: at one point, this blue anoiced me in this past game,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: which is honestly the most annoying that the blue has
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: gotten with me all season. But he made a couple
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: of calls that was that weren't that were incorrect, So
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna charpe you. But I also know there's a
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: level of I have my initial reaction of a chirp,
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: and now if it's maybe a couple of calls in
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: a row, I might have my initial reaction. I might,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you know, keep going for a little bit. But then
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: you chill it out. You don't just continually brate the referee.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: I'm telling you. After the game, one of these dudes
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: was coming up and asking saying, you know, how come
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: you guys never called defensive three seconds? And the ref
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: had to look like, look at him and say, there's
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: no such thing as defensive three seconds in this league.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: And he was like, oh, well there should be ghost
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: sit down, ghost down, ghost down. You don't understand, you
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: don't even understand the rules. You don't even know what's
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: going on here. And also like my thing is is
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: that now when you you're going at the ref, you're
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: going at the opposite coach. I mean, come on, guy,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: I don't understand what is what? Like like, I just
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: feel like it's a lot of misplaced energy as far
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: as the coach to the refs, as far as the
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: coaches to the refs, I gotta be able to have
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: some sort of conversation with you. And obviously some refs
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: are way more sensitive than anothers. I know some rests
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: where it's like as soon as you talk to them
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: and say, hey, you keep it up and I'm gonna
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: give your test, and it's like I talked on a yell.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: I just talked to you like this, I just asked
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: you a question. That's how some refts are. On some refs,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: good banter, go back and forth. At this point, all
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: these refs know me. I know all these refs. We
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: have a pretty good relationship. We're good. And you know,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: if a ref looks at me and he says, all right, man,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: that's enough. Then that's enough. I gotta know that if
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: I continue going that there could be repercussions, and I
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: think that that's fine. I think that everybody involved should
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: be able to have that. You know that that that
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: interaction in that banter at youth sports specifically, I think
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: that you being a fan of the opposite team and
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: you yelling out of the crowd directly at the ref
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: berating them, Come on, man, what are you doing? Get
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: over yourself? What over you? You're just you're just, you're
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: just embarrassed because your kid's not that good.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: I think, again, it's hard, it's again, it's another line,
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: but you know it's in fairness to you. You want
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: to keep that same energy for your starters as you
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: do for the players who don't play as much, and
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: you want them to all play better and get better,
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: especially you know, when you know your son isn't playing
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: right now and is available to play, because you're going
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: to need them down the road for when he does
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: ultimately get healthy and start playing again. In terms of
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: you know, from an official standpoint, I learned pretty quickly
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: that whatever call you make, half the building's gonna hate you.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: So it just really doesn't matter. So unless there's something
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: like really a freezing look. I've seen parents of opposite
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: teams get in to come to blows, comes to near blows.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: So that's when you can't ignore it. But you know,
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: for as an official, for the most part, I can't
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: ignore it. For a coaches standpoint, Basically, if we're in
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: the middle of a game, I make a call at
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: a place still going on, I'll get to you right
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: at the next time out what I saw, I'll tell
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: you what. I'll tell you what's going on, this is
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: why I call it, or what I didn't call, you know,
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: just to again give that rapport and just be able
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: to make sure that it ever escalates. So I don't
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: ever want to tell some of these official last thing
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: I ever want to do is tell somebody I don't
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: like that. I want to have good relationships with the
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: opposing coaches or with coaches and parents and all that
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: I want them to know that they could trust me
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: out there as an official. Yeah, that was a big
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: deal to me.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I guarantee you take it a whole lot more seriously
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: than most people who are afficiating youth sports. But overall, though, man,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: I just you know, I just I think it's really
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: sad when you know, the parents all of a sudden
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: make it all about them. You know, when the parents
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: make it all of a sudden, make it all about them,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: and they set a bad example for the kids overall,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: and then they try to, you know, demonize somebody for
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: taking things seriously. I think it's the exact opposite. I
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: think more more parents take something seriously. And I guarantee you,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: as that person's over there doing that, there's some kids,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: there's some parents on that team who are thinking to themselves,
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: I wish that dude was my kids.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: Coach, because you know what, at the end of the
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: day too, there's also this and I also remember this
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: lesson in when I was going through my officiating classes,
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: is that game, to those kids is one of the
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: biggest thing, biggest hours of their entire week. So you
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: make sure you level up to it, yep, and you
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: treat it as such. So right now, for your kids,
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: that's the biggest thing, that's the big one of the
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: biggest hours of their week, and you're leveling up to it.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: He's an official. I need to level up to it
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: and take it that seriously and make sure it means
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: as much to me as it does that I'll top
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: of that, I got paid pretty well, so you know,
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: you can't really play that.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: That's another thing. You're not a volunteer. Okay. So so
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: so as a as a fan, if I want to, like,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: you know, like go, you know, just chirp a little
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: bit to the ref Again, there's a level of a
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: way to just throw it out there and not just
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: be rating this person. But and then, and then, especially
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: when it comes to them and the coaches, you are
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: getting paid. You're not a volunteer, so part of what
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: you're getting paid for is to be able to have
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: some dialogue back and forth. But yeah, man, I don't know.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: It's uh, it's interesting. I listen, Like I explain to
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: my kids all the time, you're all just gonna get
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: older and get better and get ready because it's gonna
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: get worse, all this stuff that we're talking about when
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: it comes to opposing coaches, opposing fans, opposing teams, them
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: when they're not as good as you decide and try
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: to do some dirty shit because they're trying to because
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: their grasping and straws and there's nothing else they can
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: do to level up to your level with you know,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: the the opposite crowd, which, by the way, this opposite
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: crowd when they end up getting reprimanded by the person
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: who runs the league, who had already has already said
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: that she was gonna, you know, send some stuff out.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Make sure she said something to them anyway during the
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: game as one of our kids is shooting, now their
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: people in their crowd are yelling brick and we're talking
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: about ten year olds here. And then that's when she
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: was like, yo, what what are we doing here? And
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: to me, that just goes and shows the overall human
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: being and the and the small, small, low level of
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: class that she possessed. That that's the way that you
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: handle yourself. And I personally, I personally feel like, yo, man,
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: at the end of the day, it's about these kids,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: and it's about it's about giving them the energy that
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: they deserve, and it's about giving that energy all the
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: time and not just expecting something to happen on game day. Yeah, man,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: make sure you hit that like hit that somebri it's
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: at Independent Nick on every single platform Independent and I
