- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31We're talking about worrying today and how worrying is using
- 0:36your imagination for things that are not stuff you really want.
- 0:40But we're using the imagination to conjure up, to put into play
- 0:46visions of things that we don't even know if they're true.
- 0:50So we start the worrying process because we think it's going to
- 0:53help us be prepared. I know I used to be a
- 0:57professional warrior. Hello, my name is Kim, and I
- 0:59used to be a professional warrior.
- 1:02And there's part of me that still does do that.
- 1:04And I have to manage it and take myself out of it and put myself
- 1:09in situations that are healthier than the worry framework.
- 1:13And worry comes with anxiety, worrying comes with discomfort.
- 1:17Worrying comes with all kinds of things that my imagination is so
- 1:22skilled at painting and putting forth.
- 1:24It doesn't matter if I am, I'll give you an example like OK, we
- 1:28had this terrible rainstorm yesterday afternoon came
- 1:31through. And so yesterday or the day
- 1:33before, I forget which day it was, but anyway, it came
- 1:35through. We've it's rained every single
- 1:36day, at least some point during the day.
- 1:39And this one was fierce. It had wind and they said we
- 1:42were having 40 to 60 mile an hour gusts of wind and it was
- 1:46pouring like it was coming down sideways.
- 1:50And the only thing that I could think of was my tomato plants
- 1:54are going to get wrecked. And I was in the state of Oh no,
- 1:58Oh no, Oh no, Oh no. And the whole time it's raining,
- 2:01it's like 4:00 in the afternoon. I'm trying to stay focused on
- 2:05what I need to stay focused on because I'm still working.
- 2:08But my brain is literally thinking about the mess outside.
- 2:11And I'm trying to figure out like, oh, are they going to be
- 2:14OK? I wonder if they're all falling
- 2:16over. I wonder if they're in the dirt
- 2:18and the tomatoes are getting beat up.
- 2:20I wonder what happened. Now, the whole time I can't walk
- 2:24outside and look and I can't see it from my window where I am
- 2:28because it's pouring and I'm not going outside.
- 2:31Lo and behold, when the storm stops about 45 minutes later and
- 2:35I come outside, none of them were ruined.
- 2:38Nothing had fallen over, nothing had happened like nothing had
- 2:41happened. And here I was catastrophizing
- 2:44in a in a really great way. I must say.
- 2:46I was really good at catastrophizing.
- 2:48And I kept thinking about how much I thought it was going to
- 2:53be wiped out. Oh, no, no tomatoes.
- 2:56And it reminded me, if you've ever seen the movie A Christmas
- 2:58Story. And the little boy at the end
- 3:00when the dogs from the neighbors, the Bumpus dogs eat
- 3:03the Turkey and he's standing there screaming and he's like,
- 3:06no Turkey, no chicken, no Turkey Ala King, no Turkey sandwiches,
- 3:10no. And he's like making this whole
- 3:11list. And all I could think of was, Oh
- 3:13my gosh, no tomato jam, no BLT's, no sandwiches with the
- 3:17big thick tomato slices. Because tomatoes are my thing
- 3:21that I used to do with my dad. So I'm emotionally attached to
- 3:25tomatoes. I have distinct memories of my
- 3:28dad and tomatoes. So they're important to me.
- 3:31And I can't begin to tell you the level of worry I was going
- 3:38through now. Fortunately, I was able to keep
- 3:41it in check when I was on the phone.
- 3:44But the second I hung up the phone, the floodgates open and
- 3:47in comes the worry. And then I have to wait because
- 3:50I'm still trapped in the house because the storm is still
- 3:52happening. And it made me recognize how
- 3:56even with all the work you do, all the work I do, all the stuff
- 4:00I teach, how it can just sneak up on you and your imagination
- 4:03takes over. Now, one of my greatest tools
- 4:05that I have is my imagination and my creativity.
- 4:08Unless, of course, they're left Unchained like a toddler on
- 4:12sugar in a house and they just go nuts and that's what
- 4:16happened. So using your imagination for
- 4:20the greater good and using your creativity for the greater good
- 4:23is something that you have to cultivate and learn.
- 4:26In order to cultivate and learn it, you have to actually see
- 4:29where it shows up when you are off track.
- 4:33Really important distinction. It is really beneficial to
- 4:37understand where you fail with it, so you understand where you
- 4:40can grow with it and recognizing the weak points of how it shows
- 4:46up and how to fix things. Because when you're prepared
- 4:49that way and you really think about, you know, oh, where where
- 4:52am I weak in this? Where are where are the cracks
- 4:56in the foundation? You, you definitely end up
- 4:59building yourself up stronger in the process, but you just have
- 5:02to look for us. And if you don't look, it will
- 5:04surprise you. I had no intention of thinking
- 5:08that that was going to be an issue, but yet here it was an
- 5:11issue. It was right in front of me and
- 5:12it was a big issue. And that's what happened.
- 5:15And I had to really work myself through it so I could make sure
- 5:19that I paid attention and it doesn't happen repetitively.
- 5:25So now that I know that that was something that showed up in the
- 5:29way that it showed up, I'm like, OK, I've got to go in and make
- 5:32sure that these are very set up so I don't have to feel like I
- 5:34have to worry about this because I don't want to worry about it.
- 5:37I just want to manage it. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:40this was helpful and I will see you all tomorrow morning.
- 5:42Bye.
