- Lucas: Bienvenue, tout le monde, to episode 21 of Learn French with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey Lucas, you know what I'm craving? A nice hot cup of tea. Lucas: Ooh, tea. In French, that's 'le thé.' Say it with me: le thé. Luna: Le thé. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what about juice? Like orange juice? That's 'le jus.' Say it: le jus. Luna: Le jus. That's easy. Lucas: Right. And soda? That's 'un soda.' But we'll get to that. First, let's practice these drinks. I'll say the English, you say the French. Tea. Luna: Le thé. Lucas: Juice. Luna: Le jus. Lucas: Soda. Luna: Un soda. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let's use them in a sentence. To order, we can say 'Je voudrais' — that means 'I would like.' That's 'I would like some tea, please.' Lucas: Exactly. Try it yourself, Luna. Lucas: Perfect. Now for juice: 'Je voudrais du jus, s'il vous plaît.' Say it. Note: soda is masculine, so we say 'un soda.' Lucas: Beautiful. Now, let's put it together in a little scene. Imagine you're at a café. Lucas: And the waiter says, 'Et avec ceci?' That's 'And with this?' You can say, 'Et un jus, s'il vous plaît.' Luna: Et un jus, s'il vous plaît. Lucas: See? You just ordered two drinks. Let's do one more round. I'll ask you what you want, and you answer. Qu'est-ce que vous voulez? That's 'What would you like?' But we'll keep it simple. Luna, what would you like? Lucas: Awesome. You got it. Now, let's review all the phrases from today. We have 'le thé' for tea, 'le jus' for juice, 'un soda' for a soda, and the ordering phrase 'Je voudrais... s'il vous plaît.' Repeat after me: le thé. Luna: Le thé. Lucas: Le jus. Luna: Le jus. Lucas: Un soda. Luna: Un soda. Lucas: Fantastic. You know, this reminds me of when we learned food words back in episode 20. You can combine them. That's 'I would like some bread and tea.' Luna: Oh, cool. So I can say 'Je voudrais du pain et du jus.' Lucas: Exactly. You've got the pattern. Now, let's do a quick check. What's the French for 'tea'? Luna: Le thé. Lucas: Juice? Luna: Le jus. Lucas: A soda? Luna: Un soda. Lucas: And how do you say 'I would like some tea, please'? Lucas: Perfect. You're ready to order at a French café. Well done, listeners. That's all for today's episode of Learn French with Fexingo. Practice these phrases, and maybe treat yourself to a nice drink. À bientôt! Luna: À bientôt!
