- 0:00Speaker 1: We have in the studio with us Brian Nicholson. Brian,
- 0:04good morning, How are.
- 0:05Speaker 2: You hi, guys? How are you happy to be here?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Brian is here to talk about we'd mentioned yesterday or
- 0:10the day before, the time capsule that they're putting together
- 0:15up in Ogden at the Union Station, So just start there.
- 0:20Where did that all start out? Well?
- 0:22Speaker 2: I was approached about I don't know two or three
- 0:24weeks ago by the Hope Egga who's in the museum administration,
- 0:30and she mentioned that she would like me to provide
- 0:33some kind of a memento from the I Am Ogden book,
- 0:37and that the book would be too big because it's
- 0:40I think the box they're using for the capsules only
- 0:42like eight and a half inches by twelve inches or
- 0:45something like that, so the book wouldn't fit. So I
- 0:48tried to come up with an idea. I printed up
- 0:51this small eight inch by eight inch version of it
- 0:55so that they can include it in the time capsule.
- 0:57I guess what had happened back in May They dug
- 1:01up a time capsule from.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Nineteen twenty five hundred years ago.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one hundred years.
- 1:05Speaker 1: They're celebrating the entire year it's like a cornerstone at
- 1:10the Ogden Union.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, something like that. And they dug up a box
- 1:15and there was a bunch of business documents and other stuff.
- 1:18I guess what was important to them at the time.
- 1:21And so Hope, who's the administrator of the station, she
- 1:26wants to put in stuff now that are more representative
- 1:30of Ogden, like try and grab artists stuff, things that
- 1:36are more important to people now and more representative of
- 1:38the broader community.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, some years ago you put together this book
- 1:42called I Am Ogden, and it's just it's a large
- 1:46coffee table sized book of really nice black and white
- 1:50portraits of people from Ogden. Yeah, that's right, people that
- 1:54represent Ogden.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'm showing the picture of Bill that is in He's
- 1:59the very first featured picture.
- 2:04Speaker 1: It's the angry picture. It's me looking angry. There's another
- 2:07one where I'm looking cheery and I am holding you.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We're holding up a radio. Well, if you want to
- 2:12flip to the cover, you can look at the right
- 2:15at the below the Ogden, the og Maybe that's actually significant,
- 2:20the original gangster right below that is Bill already.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and so so I'm featured prominently in the book.
- 2:27And and you did you put me in the in
- 2:31the reprint here? Why? Who did you? How did you
- 2:33decide who to put in the reprint?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Honestly, I it was on Monday morning. The book was
- 2:39the sample book was due at one o'clock that same day.
- 2:42So I just grabbed the old the whole file of
- 2:46the old book, and just hand picked from a tiny thumbnails,
- 2:50just a handful of pictures I wanted in there.
- 2:52Speaker 1: There's our good friend Craig Beelick.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And you were saying that many of the people that
- 2:58are in here are dead now.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Joe mc queen's in here. Joe McQueen's passed away. So
- 3:02is Willie Moore, who's famous for that barber shop.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to bad Brad Wheeler was not
- 3:09in the book, was he?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That's why I was just thinking about that this morning.
- 3:13He should have he should have been sure, maybe the
- 3:15next one. Maybe I should do the next one. I
- 3:16think you should.
- 3:17Speaker 2: He's he's just as ogged and his bill.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Is yeah, yeah, he's and he was great friends with
- 3:22Joe McQueen over the years. So anyway, these portraits are
- 3:27just great. So I'm going to go up there tomorrow,
- 3:30I'm going to take the train up to Ogden, the
- 3:32front Runner. I'll go to Union Station and there's a
- 3:35ceremony at five o'clock.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Right, that's correct, five o'clock. It starts. There's a list
- 3:39of a quite extensive list of about twenty seven entities
- 3:43that are also going to be placing items in the
- 3:46time capsule. One a few noteworthy ones that they're going
- 3:51to be putting. A stuffed animal of Waldo the Wildcat
- 3:54from Weaver State makes sense. Yeah, there will be some
- 3:58samples and sketches from a guy named Alphonso and I'm
- 4:02probably gonna murder this last name, but it's ten Rio ten. Anyway,
- 4:07he's got a symphonic piece that will be performed tomorrow
- 4:10as well. Uh, and there'll be some stuff from him
- 4:13in the in the time capsule as well as a
- 4:16Weaver State professor pepper Glass has a book called Misplacing Ogden, Utah,
- 4:21which I haven't I haven't seen before.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But uh, that's why you were going to You're going
- 4:25to say they were going to put the professor in
- 4:26the time time capsule. Uh, well, it's a it's a
- 4:30it's an honor. Now you are supposed to be the
- 4:32one to put this in the time capsule. Nobody even
- 4:34considered that I should do it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Well, right, well, I'll be out of town, so I thought.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So, so I'm filling in for I'm filling in for
- 4:43Brian at the time capsule.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Well you are mister Ogden, aren't you?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Well? I I think I am, but I think there
- 4:49are other people who don't think.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Weren't you the parade? Uh they call it Grand Marshal
- 4:55of the Parade one year.
- 4:57Speaker 1: No, never been to Grand Marshal marshall. I announced the
- 5:00parade one year, okay, because Lann Allen was sick, so
- 5:05I did it. And then I announced it the Rodeo
- 5:08one year because.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Well, I called post Malone and he wasn't going to
- 5:13be able to do it, so I thought you should
- 5:14probably do.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It well post Malone. We're trying to get a hold
- 5:17of him because last year I was best Utah in
- 5:20in City Weekly. Right, he's best Utahon this year. I
- 5:23need to give him my best best uton sash. Oh yeah,
- 5:27that's nice, sort of a peaceful transfer of power between
- 5:30me and post Malone. So I'm trying to get a
- 5:32hold of it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Let me know when that happens, I'll come photograph it.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Nice, So this is very nice. I'm looking forward
- 5:38to it. I'll be there five o'clock. You have any
- 5:40idea what time I'm actually gonna do it.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Well, if if they're going by the list here, you're
- 5:46third in the list of these twenty seven presenters. But
- 5:48I think this is mostly alphabetical, so who knows if
- 5:51they'll stick to that.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Oh, and I'm gonna Katie, we could record this portion too,
- 5:55And I'm gonna bring a little thumb drive with the
- 5:58recording of this. Oh awesome, And I'll also put that
- 6:01in there, Okay, and the time capsule. But there should
- 6:04be other stuff, and you know, like there should be
- 6:06a there should be a hamburger from uh from uh.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Maybe Jake's over the Top, well Big Ben, the Benny's,
- 6:13Oh yeah, that's that's.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah, something from car Quick. Yeah, some potato logs from
- 6:19kar Quick. Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I was thinking they should at least have a photograph
- 6:23of that China night guy, that the Chinese guy that
- 6:26had the arrow stuck in his belly, remember that?
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah? Remember somebody shot him with any.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Which makes me wonder what's going on in Ogden? Other
- 6:33people running around with bows and arrows you.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Somebody shot an arrow into them. Errol Dixon,
- 6:41Brian Nicholson, thanks so much. Can people still get the
- 6:43Eye am Ogden book if they want it?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Unfortunately, no, it's out of print. I have a few
- 6:48cases in my basement for posterity, but that's about it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Well, thank you, thanks and thanks for thinking about me.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for having me on sure.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Just quickly, Brian, you brought also some stuff in bags
- 7:00from the people who printed the book.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Is that right, We're the ones who printed this small
- 7:04edition of it. Yes, and it's a Stone Mountain Press,
- 7:07an Augdentee Room or Ogden Tee shop T stands for
- 7:11T shirt. So they do a bunch of great They
- 7:13do a great work up there.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And now, thank you, thank you. I just wanted to
- 7:16think those guys all right. Thank you,
