- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Doug, yeah, you got the microphone upside down.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I can't hear you.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: I'm an innovator.

- 0:52SPEAKER_13: What a dummy.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: What a dummy head.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Welcome to episode 243 of this illustrious journey that we are on as a couple.
- 1:07SPEAKER_13: We're an all-married couple.
- 1:09SPEAKER_13: This one.
- 1:10SPEAKER_13: Really are.
- 1:11SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_13: A common law of married couple.
- 1:14SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15SPEAKER_13: Pretty much.
- 1:16SPEAKER_13: Pretty much.
- 1:16SPEAKER_13: Well, I mean, we're calling we're closing in on what?
- 1:19SPEAKER_13: 40 years?
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Of knowing each other?
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, something like that.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: So it's been a minute.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: It's been a minute.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Um, so since our last episode, we have had what I would call uh you could probably argue this, but I think most most of the people in our band, the Star City Syndicate, would agree.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Our best gig ever.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, I agree.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Uh and I don't know.
- 1:46SPEAKER_13: Well, I mean, it was best gig, best venue.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, definitely best venue.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Um we felt like we were moving up in the world.
- 1:54SPEAKER_13: For a second, for it it really felt like being a rock star.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it did.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: And and uh for for a couple different reasons.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: So let's let's go back.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: So uh every year uh the Maine Music Educators Association puts on a conference uh called the All State Music Festival.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: And it meh like that better.
- 2:26SPEAKER_13: What party are you with?
- 2:27SPEAKER_13: Who are you with?
- 2:28SPEAKER_13: Meh.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And so what it is, it's a I think we've talked about this a little bit, it's professional development for the music teachers around the state.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: So they bring their you know that some of their their their students audition uh to to take part in the Allstate um festival.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: They have a orchestra, uh, they have a band, like a like a high school band, and then they have two choirs, and a treble choir, which is soprano, soprano, alto, alto, and uh and SATB, Soprano, Alto Tinder Bass.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And the SATB choir alone is 260 kids, 265 kids.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Um so essentially it's over it's probably like 600 kids in all.
- 3:13SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Um and then while they're rehearsing for this big concert that they're gonna do on on a Saturday, um, all the music teachers uh are going to workshops and and you know for professional development.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: And so part of this conference, uh the MMEA or the um they bring performers.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: And this is my third conference since becoming a music teacher.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And uh last year they had a motivational speaker.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: And I'm not saying not taking anything away from the motivational speaker, but this was after a long day of rehearsals.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: These these these kids were stuck in these rehearsal rooms.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Granted, they're doing a lot of great work and it sound amazing, um, but it's a long day.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: You know, they're in they're in these rehearsals for an hour and a half or something.
- 4:08SPEAKER_13: You want your motivational speaker to be at the beginning of the day.
- 4:11SPEAKER_13: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:12SPEAKER_13: To get everybody pumped up for the day.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so last last year, after they had rehearsed all day long, their entertainment that night was somebody up on stage talking to them, and it was I'm not gonna t like I said, not taking anything away from the motion motivational speaker, but it's n was not the right choice.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: No, no, that's definitely um and no bueno.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: In years past, they've had uh or uh other performers um and they've been okay.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, they the kids have liked them.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And so they hired our band.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Well, uh full disclosure, uh our own John Simonoff is on the board.
- 4:47SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I think I think I think he strong armed it into it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's like, we should we should bring my can we bring my band down?
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: And they're like, Well, I don't know.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And so they agreed and uh and brought us down.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: And so we play got to play the Collins Center for the Arts, which is at the University of Maine at Orno.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Fantastic room.
- 5:07SPEAKER_13: Oh my word.
- 5:08SPEAKER_13: Uh amazing room.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Great sound, great acoustics, just and and lots of seating, uh, you know, balcony seating and everything, and um more importantly, professional sound.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Nothing to take away from OJ.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Oh no, OJ OJ does well, man.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, OJ does amazing uh for us, but OJ's not a trained sound person.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah he's he's kind of learning as he goes.
- 5:31SPEAKER_13: Oh, we basically were like, we need a sound guy.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: OJ.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And he's doing a great job.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Don't you know not to take anything away.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: But these are these guys are professional guys, and he would say the same thing.
- 5:40SPEAKER_13: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_13: He he was like he was like he was like job shadowing these guys.
- 5:45SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he was like he was just like, I don't know.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was taking it all in.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: He wasn't feeling good either.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: So that's it.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: No, he wasn't uh but he was taking it all in and and and taking notes, I think, mental notes, and but I mean we had um we had a monitor mix and then a monitor.
- 5:59SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we had a separate sound guy for the monitors, and I which the sound guy for the book never had.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were I was like we did this whole sound check thing, and uh as soon as the horns started playing through the speakers, I was just like, wow.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was this is gonna be this is gonna be amazing.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: And we did a full sound check with the full band, and it sounded just fantastic.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And you know, before you know then we went up to the green room, which was actually green.
- 6:27SPEAKER_13: Yeah, was actually green.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Yep, and um we found a Bob Ross Monopoly game.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: That was cool.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Uh and they had a record player, so we put a Chicago record on and we all just kind of chilled a little bit.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: It was nice, man.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: And then it was time to go and play.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: So we went down and the kids filed in, over, like I said, over 600 of them, plus their teachers.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: And were I would imagine it was a long day.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: They were probably tired, but it was that time kind of tired where you know they're ready to just go crazy and just let loose.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just let loose a little bit.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: It had to be because the from the first note, uh actually, when we walked out on stage, they started freaking out.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And they don't know who we are.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: No, they don't have a clue.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: No, they've never seen us before, they've never heard of us before, but they were cheering for us as we walked out on stage.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: And and that part that made you, you know, feel like a rock star, you know, like wow, maybe they know us.
- 7:20SPEAKER_13: Oh no, they don't know us, they can't know us.
- 7:22SPEAKER_13: They can't they can't possibly know who we are.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Right, but they were just happy.
- 7:25SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I I totally get that.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: And so we put on our instruments and we went right into the first song, Hold On I'm Comin' by Sam and Dave.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: And they lost it.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: They were just just on board the entire time, waving, and and we we did uh I mean we didn't.
- 7:41SPEAKER_13: Well it was fun.
- 7:42SPEAKER_13: The funny thing is that the the front of the stage to the first row of seats is less than three feet.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_13: So I mean they were they basically like maybe a minute in the song, they already filled that space.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they already came, they all came up.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: And on the songs like um, well, does anybody really know what time it was?
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: It is from Chicago we were doing that song.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Was that the first one that they took their phones out?
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: And they were swaying their arms.
- 8:11SPEAKER_13: It was bright too.
- 8:11SPEAKER_13: It was like yeah, it was like little spotlights.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: And I I don't know if it's because of the room, because of this we were happy with the sound and we everybody could hear each other and everything.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's why I think we played the best we've played.
- 8:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: It was just it was it it was a nice energy.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: It was a nice energy.
- 8:29SPEAKER_13: I mean the kids are really into it, so of course we get really into it, you know.
- 8:34SPEAKER_13: So it's a cyclical thing.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: And here's the other thing, and I don't want to hear an excuse from our horns, because the reason we had that energy level is because we designed the set to go from one song to the next.
- 8:48SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: There was no space in between.
- 8:50SPEAKER_13: No, no, it was great.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: And we went we finished one song, they cheered, we went right into the next song.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: That's what we have to do every show.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: It's hard to do every show because you know, we play two hour shows probably sometimes.
- 9:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: And I understand that the horns, you know, it's hard for the horns.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but they did it.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: We played an hour.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: It was only an hour show down at the Collins Center.
- 9:16SPEAKER_13: And that and that might have something to do with it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_13: I'm sure.
- 9:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: And they actually said, let's just keep trudging through.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Let's just keep going through.
- 9:21SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we didn't even have any uh non-horn.
- 9:23SPEAKER_13: Non-horn songs.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: We didn't have any non-horn songs.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: But uh if we put some non-horn songs in there, there's no reason we can't do that every time.
- 9:34SPEAKER_13: Oh, absolutely.
- 9:35SPEAKER_13: I mean that that's the reason for the non-horn song is to give them a break.
- 9:39SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 9:39SPEAKER_13: And they should be ready by the time the next song instead of waiting, you know, you know, because they t they tend I mean, they're like, you know, they're like cats.
- 9:47SPEAKER_13: They, you know, once you let them go, they just mill off.
- 9:51SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_13: You know, they're over here, they're over there, they're outside, you know.
- 9:54SPEAKER_13: And then by the time the song's done, you gotta wait for them all to come back and you know.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so so I that's what I'm gonna lobby for at the next rehearsal.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It's like we need to make every show like that.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: We need to make every show five songs in a row, and then a non-horn song, and then another five songs in a row, non-stop, one read after another.
- 10:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: We're not taking time in between because the energy is there, it makes a difference.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: So that's what I'm gonna say.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna get shot down, but Oh, absolutely.
- 10:26SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_13: You're gonna be persona non-gravity.
- 10:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah, it's probably probably and oh that's okay.
- 10:33SPEAKER_13: I'll take it.
- 10:34SPEAKER_13: We should we should chain the horn section to their stands, then they can't wander off.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: All right, so here's the that would fly here.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Here's the other thing that happened.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: So what we didn't know is at the Collins Center, the very edge of the stage is uh on hydraulics.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Because it it it can be lowered for the orchestra pit.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Uh lowered and raised, actually.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: So uh, but we didn't know that at the time.
- 11:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah, nobody said anything.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: No, nobody said anything.
- 11:05SPEAKER_13: You think you think that would have been one of the things, you know, for a new a new act coming into your your place and be like, hey, listen, this part is hydraulic, so you can't put a lot of weight here.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Well, here's the thing they had us set up back further.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: I don't think they expected anybody to go out onto that section.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: True.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: All of our monitors were back behind that hydraulic section.
- 11:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: You know, so we were we were on the stage, and there's no reason for us, unless I was doing somebody was doing a solo, they would go out there.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Um we never expected what happened to happen.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: No, no, but not not in our wildest dreams.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: No, so so we started, was it Footloose?
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was the very last song.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: The very last song.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: So we started doing Footloose.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: And and I have you seen the video of the performance.
- 11:58SPEAKER_13: I've only seen the bits that came to the.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Oh no, I have the whole video.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: How'd you get the whole video?
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: He emailed it to uh to me and who I don't know whoever whoever else.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: He emailed they they emailed Chris the video and the audio.
- 12:12SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: And the full concert.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: And he emailed it to me, and I think whoever's email he had, he emailed it to them too.
- 12:19SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll show it to you.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: But I think you are the reason they came up on stage.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know how that is possible.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you, I'll tell you how that is possible.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Well, let's let's tell what happened first.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: So we so we started playing footloose, and all of a sudden two guys come up on stage and they're running around.
- 12:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: And doing the worm.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: And then this cute girl comes up on stage and she does this, starts doing this really cool dance, and then a guy comes up and they're dancing together.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: And at first it's like, this is really cool.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: You know, and we didn't think anything of it.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And before you knew it, the whole front of the stage was full of people.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, they all jumped up on the stage and were dancing while we played footloose.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: So much so you couldn't see the band.
- 13:07SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're literally, we weren't even there.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: And so all of a sudden the lights went out.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: And in the back of my head, I'm thinking, oh, they're getting into this.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Even the sound crew are getting into this, right?
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: And then the lights came back on.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: And then they went out again.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: And then they came back on.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: And then they lowered them and they left them low.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: And then they came back up.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: And so I'm like, well, this is kind of kind of cool, I guess.
- 13:30SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I wasn't, you know, I I wasn't really sure what was happening.
- 13:33SPEAKER_13: I was like, I was like, is there a problem?
- 13:36SPEAKER_13: And is there a light issue?
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: So what what what they were doing was signal signaling us to stop playing because there's too many people on the stage.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: We had no idea.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: We had we we had we were clueless.
- 13:51SPEAKER_13: Yeah, well they didn't never nobody said anything.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Nobody said anything.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: So we just kept playing.
- 13:55SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: And um eventually we finished the song and and made them think that that was the last song.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Technically it was.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: And so everybody got off the stage, and then the organizer came out, and I looked at her and and we're like putting our hands up, and she's like, one more song.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: And so we did one more song.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Nobody came up, nobody came back up on the stage.
- 14:18SPEAKER_13: I don't remember doing one more song.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Maybe did give me some love.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's right.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: So so yeah, um, and I talked to John after, and he's like, I don't think they're gonna have us back because of that.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: You know, but well, that was really not our fault.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: We didn't we didn't know.
- 14:35SPEAKER_13: We didn't know the stage was hydraulic.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: And we didn't know that you were going that that was a signal to to stop playing.
- 14:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Um and once they got we had you gave you told us to play we could play one more.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: So obviously you weren't that upset.
- 14:50SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I mean, if they'd been really upset, they would have been like, all right, everybody off now.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Luckily, we avoided uh any disasters.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Disasters.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: There was no damage done to the stage, nobody got hurt or anything like that.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So we were lucky in that realm.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I'm not sure.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: The kids had a ball.
- 15:10SPEAKER_13: Oh, they were having a blast.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: And I guarantee if if they had us back, they would enjoy us again.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: I would think so.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, well, I don't know.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: We'll see what the the whole to John, we'll see what he says, what they told him you know about it.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: But we'll see, you know.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I had a blast.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: I did too.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I was having a great time.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: I thought it was fantastic.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: So anyway, uh, as I'm looking at the video, and it's not your fault.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, well I'm gonna start start right there.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: It's not your fault.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: But this is I saw something happen.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think there was a miscommunication.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: There was a kid in the audience that looked up at you and and made a gesture or something, and you made a gesture back at him like, yeah, or like something like that.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: I think he asked you or was asking you Oh, I know what you're talking about if he could get up on stage and you just went, yeah, like so he uh this is just a just a uh um No, I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Just a theory.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Uh because I think he took it like, well, that guy said I could I could.
- 16:21SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_13: I think I I know exactly what I know exactly the kid too.
- 16:24SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah, because he'd he'd been there all night long.
- 16:27SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 16:27SPEAKER_13: Just I mean, he was like into it.
- 16:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_13: And I remember I remember that the we were starting Footloose, and I he was like looking at me, and he's like, he's like this, and I'm like, like that.
- 16:39SPEAKER_13: And then all of a sudden he jumps off of the stage.
- 16:40SPEAKER_13: I'm like, okay, yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: See, that's what I saw that, and I'm like, hmm.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: I wonder if he thinks that Doug gave him permission.
- 16:48SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that was not it.
- 16:49SPEAKER_13: That was just like, he's pointing at me, I'm gonna point back at you.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: And all of a sudden he's on stage.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: And then every then everybody's like, oh, he got up on stage, he got up on stage, I'm gonna get upstairs.
- 17:00SPEAKER_13: He brought his buddy up on stage, and then and then that girl came on stage, and then I was like, okay, well, and then everybody came on stage.
- 17:07SPEAKER_13: I was like, okay, wait a minute.
- 17:08SPEAKER_13: We opened the floodgates.
- 17:09SPEAKER_13: I was like, whoa.
- 17:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: And the other thing I noticed from watching the video, you told me, and I didn't really pay attention to it at the time, but you told me you flubbed the beginning of signs.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, completely.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Then I watched the video.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know what the hell you said.
- 17:33SPEAKER_13: I don't either.
- 17:34SPEAKER_13: I was just like making noises at that point.
- 17:36SPEAKER_13: That's what it was.
- 17:36SPEAKER_13: They weren't no words.
- 17:38SPEAKER_13: There was no words.
- 17:39SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 17:39SPEAKER_13: Noise.
- 17:40SPEAKER_13: I was just like because I was like, because I started off okay.
- 17:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 17:46SPEAKER_13: And I was like, okay.
- 17:48SPEAKER_13: And then for some reason, I mean the words are right there on the iPad.
- 17:52SPEAKER_13: And then they were gone.
- 17:53SPEAKER_13: I was just like, I was like out of the I was like, what is the next line?
- 17:58SPEAKER_12: And then I'm just like I want to show that to you at some point.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Actually, uh, this may be opening up a can of worms, but uh let me see if I can yeah, I just I was like, what the fri it was.
- 18:12SPEAKER_13: I just I just my brain just shut down.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I watched it and I was just like, what does he say?
- 18:19SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I didn't I had no idea what where I was or what I was trying to do.
- 18:22SPEAKER_13: Um and I couldn't get back.
- 18:25SPEAKER_13: So I just had to like, you know, until the chorus, and then I was just like, okay.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Alright, hold on.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Let me see if I can uh there was a problem playing this video.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: What are you talking about when it comes to me?
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: And find that spot because it's quite hilarious.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: So this audio is direct from the board.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Wow, that is great to run a life that will jump into my dog.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: I gotta take it in.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: I'm a level man.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: I can take it to the nearest car.
- 19:33unknown: Don't you baby?
- 19:35unknown: Take it in the way of the boat.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I don't remember where Sines was.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: So I'm watching this the night after the night I got home, right?
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: When the idiot Kristen said it to me.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: And I still you did that burst at the beginning of time, and I was laughing.
- 20:12SPEAKER_13: I just completely just bobbed it.
- 20:15SPEAKER_13: It was great.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Alright, I mean it sounds like a rock chill.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it does.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: And I I'll tell you what, just um I can't turn it up any louder than that, but that's okay.
- 20:52SPEAKER_13: That background is amazing, man, isn't it?
- 20:55SPEAKER_13: I mean there were UFOs on the ceiling and everything, it was really great.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: My guitar sounds amazing.
- 21:03SPEAKER_13: I know.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Don't laugh, don't laugh.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Let the hopefully, let the whole thing.
- 22:01SPEAKER_06: I was just channeling the back.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: I was born up.
- 22:08SPEAKER_06: I was channeling James Brown.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: You ever seen that Molicrew uh concert where Vince Neal is trying to that's that's means going to the I'm gonna go to game for the right?
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: The kids didn't know any different, I'm sure.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: I'm watching that.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: And I remember be, you know, in the moment, I remember looking at you like like kind of like, well, you you forgot the words or whatever.
- 23:21SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I totally I just I don't even know what happened though.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: And then you mentioned it to me later, but I was like, I don't think anybody noticed.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: And then I came to the obvious, but I came home and I watched it, and I'm like, oh my word.
- 23:33SPEAKER_13: What is what did he say?
- 23:37SPEAKER_13: It was like a James Brown and Bob Dylan at a stroke.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: The kids didn't notice that.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: No, they didn't care.
- 23:45SPEAKER_13: They didn't care, man.
- 23:46SPEAKER_13: That was like that that was amazing, but uh I and and uh when I think of it, were you on emailing?
- 23:51SPEAKER_13: I was just gonna say that.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Remind me at the end and I'll I'll send it to you.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: But that is amazing quality.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: It is sound, the picture, I mean, that's like that's like that's like a concert DVD quality, but like the the because it's for it straight from the board.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: And so the mix is good, but the the end sound, I mean, it's kind of muddy.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: So it's a little muddy.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that still sounds great.
- 24:17SPEAKER_13: It's the best win we've ever had done.
- 24:19SPEAKER_13: Oh, yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
- 24:20SPEAKER_13: By far.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: We could use that to to market ourselves for sure.
- 24:22SPEAKER_13: Well, yeah, definitely.
- 24:23SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: So anyway, so um, yeah, it was a good experience.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: It really it really was fun.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: And the kids talked about it uh that night and they were pretty pumped.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: And then I went back the next night and they had something called the New York Voices.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Now, I'm not a jazz guy.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, I like jazz to a certain extent.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: I like like smooth jazz.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: You like Kenny G type jazz.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Well, that, but like Larry Carlton.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: You know, that that kind of jazz.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: I like I like that.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Um, and this was okay.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Uh I'll play a little bit of it for you.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Because I I wanted to see the kids' reaction, really.
- 25:03SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: You know, were are they gonna react the same as they reacted to us, um, and things like that.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: So I was I was there um at the beginning of the show, and they had the um Portland, what'd they call them?
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: The Portland Jazz Orchestra as their backup band.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: And I'm not taking anything away from them because they were amazing.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Tight just sounded fantastic, and the New York voices sounded fantastic.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Uh four four people.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: And so I said to, I think I was texting my wife and I said, Um, I'm curious as to if they're gonna they're gonna get the same reaction that the syndicate got.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Well, they didn't.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: But and I was like, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't fall asleep.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: And so I went out.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I I stayed in for a couple songs, and I went out and just kind of because I had to be there because my student was in there.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Um they you know, as as as they're playing, there's a video screen outside in the lobby.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: There was when we played too, uh, where you could watch it from outside in the lobby.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: And so I was watching it and I was on my phone, just kind of killing time.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: And every time and they would finish a song, the kids would just would erupt in applause and and cheering.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Well, they do like this.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's pretty cool.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: I went in a couple times, but they're just they're sitting.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: There's no getting up and and hooping and hollering, they're sitting and they're enjoying it.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Um, and then every time they would finish, it would be great, a great reaction.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: And so my student comes out and uh he's like uh so I wasn't surprised because this is a an all-state audience.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: They love music and they love it, they love jazz music.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I wasn't surprised but my student comes out and the group that he was with, they were like, Whoa, they were amazing.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: And they bought their CD and they were so psyched that they got their CD signed and everything.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, wow, that's that's you know, pretty cool that they enjoyed that.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: And then so I'm I'm giving them a ride home and uh ride back to the dorm, and they're like, We were so mad at the people in front of us.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: I said, Why?
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: He said, Because the whole role in front of us was asleep.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, well, you know, it's an acquired taste, I guess.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess so.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Uh so I'll show I'll show you.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Here's the um this is the Portland Jazz Orchestra.
- 27:40SPEAKER_13: Well, they got the the band, the old style band stands and really tight, really good, you know.
- 27:47SPEAKER_13: Yeah, they sound good, man.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: And so, and then the New York Voices came out.
- 27:55SPEAKER_13: It's like a Manhattan transfer type.
- 27:57SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:02SPEAKER_13: Yeah, they are good, man.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Really, really good.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Really good.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: So I'm not taking anything away from them.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Um, but it was a different effect, it had a different effect on the Well, I'm sure.
- 28:10SPEAKER_13: I mean, I mean, that's you know, I mean, it's two different performances.
- 28:13SPEAKER_13: I mean, two different bands.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're just a Yeah, and it yeah, you could tell it was it was different.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, it almost seems like I don't think that that anything was said.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but you would think that they were like, okay, don't do what you did last night.
- 28:28SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 28:29SPEAKER_13: All right, no rushing the stage.
- 28:30SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 28:31SPEAKER_13: Even if the fat guy looked at you.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I and I want to at the end of the podcast, I want to show you that exact part.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Because you could see.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: You could see.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: I'm sure.
- 28:41SPEAKER_13: I I just I remember doing it.
- 28:43SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_13: And then the kid jumps up off stage.
- 28:44SPEAKER_13: I'm like, well, uh, okay, here we go.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: So I do I do think he misunderstood you.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Guess we're in the front row.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Anyway, so that was that was pretty fun.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: We had uh It was it was fun.
- 28:54SPEAKER_13: I mean, I had uh, you know, on the drive home that night, I was just like, wow, that was so you were wired driving home?
- 29:02SPEAKER_13: I wasn't wired, but I was just like, you know, re because I was, you know, after the the the bum rush, I was like, man.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: What just happened?
- 29:11SPEAKER_13: That never happens.
- 29:12SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 29:13SPEAKER_13: I mean, even Jan's never done that, you know.
- 29:16SPEAKER_13: So I mean I was like, what the frig?
- 29:17SPEAKER_13: I mean, did I mean what I mean what but I mean, you know, these kids have been cooped up playing whatever.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: And they love music.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: And they love music.
- 29:26SPEAKER_13: And they love me, and they're all musicians.
- 29:28SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 29:28SPEAKER_13: So that I mean they get it.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_13: You know, so I mean I totally I mean, I wasn't prepared for quite that level of like sure.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: But I mean I do think we would go over down in the Bangor area, though.
- 29:39SPEAKER_13: If that's any indication, yeah, then yeah.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: You know, those those kids are from all over the state.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Although there were only, let's see, there were four uh three or four from Hodgton, one from Holton, and two from Caribou and one from Prescott.
- 29:54SPEAKER_13: So there were that was all so vast majority of them are not even from the county.
- 29:58SPEAKER_13: So I mean, you know.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: So um I don't know.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I haven't talked to Chris yet.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he's got fielded any call or anything.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna be you know banging our doors down, but but uh at least we got down there and some people hey, we did it.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Some people let's get back to the podcast.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: I thought we were.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: We were, but you know what I mean.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Stop talking about us.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: It's all about us, all about us.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Well, you know what?
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Our name is on the podcast.
- 30:30SPEAKER_13: Well, it is O'Brien and Doug.
- 30:32SPEAKER_13: Yeah, and you're O'Brien and him, Doug.
- 30:36SPEAKER_13: I point at people and they come on stage.
- 30:38SPEAKER_13: I have a magical power.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Um George Wendt died.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so sad, man.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's uh Norm from Cheers.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Normally he's been in a lot of other things too, but that obviously is going to be what he Well, I mean, it's it's his iconic role.
- 30:52SPEAKER_13: I mean, yeah, you know.
- 30:54SPEAKER_13: Norm!
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, so that's that was he was 76.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Um doesn't it didn't really say what he died of.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: It doesn't really matter, I guess, but just the fact that I mean that he that was an icon.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: He's an icon, that was an iconic character.
- 31:07SPEAKER_13: I mean, that that show is iconic.
- 31:09SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you know.
- 31:09SPEAKER_13: I mean, everybody, I mean our generation loved that show.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: We're talking about cheers, for any of you that don't know.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: He was uh he was Norman, he always had a line.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: He always had the best lines.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Always, but when he walked in to the bar.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Everybody go, Norm.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: And then Sam would say something to him.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 31:30SPEAKER_13: My favorite one he ever said.
- 31:31SPEAKER_13: Uh I think uh Woody was on the show at that point.
- 31:35SPEAKER_13: He can say, How's the world treating you, Mr.
- 31:38SPEAKER_13: What was his name on the show?
- 31:39SPEAKER_13: Norm.
- 31:40SPEAKER_13: Well, yeah, but he he always he called he always called him by his last name.
- 31:43SPEAKER_13: Oh he always called him Mr.
- 31:44SPEAKER_13: Whatever.
- 31:48SPEAKER_13: One day he's he's like, It's a dog eat dog world, and I'm wearing milk bone underwear.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: I always remember that.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: That was one of my favorite.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Always had a line like that, you know, when he when he first came in.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: But you're right.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: He he always had the most comedic or Woody or the coach, but yeah, yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, he was one of my favorite parts of the show.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: So rest in peace.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Uh George went.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Um we'll we'll do some cheers drops at the beginning and the end of the podcast, just because, just in in remembrance.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: We've got some uh June music releases coming up.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Some of these you've already heard.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Um I can't believe June is almost here.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: It's like next week.
- 32:27SPEAKER_13: Uh two weeks.

- 32:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 32:46SPEAKER_13: Oh, alright.
- 32:47SPEAKER_13: You should write it down.
- 32:48SPEAKER_13: I probably should.
- 32:50SPEAKER_13: We're gonna have people rust their stage and everything.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, and that's who we we kept bringing ourselves back to reality too.

- 35:39SPEAKER_01: I don't want to do that.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: Um I don't want to do that.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: Those are all reissues.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: I'm not doing reissues.

- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Uh where is it here?
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: Am I looking at this wrong?
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Because they mentioned Leonard Skinnard here.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Uh let me come back to that.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: Um Barbara Streisand.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: The Secret of Life Partners, Volume 2.

- 36:55SPEAKER_01: Uh let me keep going here.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: No, the rest of these are re-issues.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: It's about the size of the stage we played.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna pair, I I have to tell you, I'm going to compare every gig we play now to the Collins Center.
- 37:23SPEAKER_13: Oh, wait, well, you can't help it now.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 37:26SPEAKER_13: You know?
- 37:28SPEAKER_13: Once you've had it something like that, everything else is gonna be like, well, you know.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: Uh July and beyond.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: I've got one here.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Alice Cooper.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: The revenge of Alice Cooper, Black Mamba.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: And the reason this is significant is it's the original Alice Cooper group.
- 37:48SPEAKER_13: Oh, right, right.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: All the original members.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Coiled into the fold.
- 37:54unknown: The white.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: You know, he's very religious.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, he's very Christian.
- 38:09SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he's very Christian.
- 38:10SPEAKER_13: Oh, yeah.
- 38:10SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he's always talking about Jesus.
- 38:12SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 38:12SPEAKER_13: So to see him do this, you're like, okay.
- 38:15SPEAKER_13: He's an actor.
- 38:16SPEAKER_13: It's an act.
- 38:16SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 38:17SPEAKER_13: It's a total act.
- 38:18SPEAKER_13: This is how everybody knows him.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: And the fact that he's still going too, he's got to be He's in his 70s.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Late 70s, right?
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Easily.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: He's right up there with Hagar.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Hagar's 77.
- 38:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah, so he's got to be around there.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's the list of things uh coming out in June and a little a little beyond June as well.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Uh we should talk about this because this kind of threw everybody for a loop.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Um the uh Taylor Hawkins replacement in the Foo Fighters was Josh Frees, who was a session guitar or session drummer and played for a lot of different bands, too.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: He's been around.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: Fantastic drummer.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Uh right in the pocket.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Um Foo Fighters uh got rid of him recently.
- 39:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Without saying anything, like well, without any kind of um explanation as to why.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, even to Josh.
- 39:09SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I bought say he was surprised too.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: He was surprised.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Um he says he's you know, he's been in bands all his life.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: He's never been fired from a band.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Now that's not saying, you know, anything.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: He's like he he it but he was kind of blindsided.
- 39:22SPEAKER_10: Well, yeah.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: He doesn't understand why they were they were.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: I don't believe him.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I don't either.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: And uh what's that what does that say?
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Because don't they have a performance coming up?
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: I think they have some sort of I thought they were.
- 39:32SPEAKER_13: I thought they were got it re getting ready for a tour.
- 39:34SPEAKER_13: I think so.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: So uh so I don't know.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: The only explanation that I can think of is they're gonna put Taylor's kid in.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he's wouldn't I mean uh I mean Can he can he handle a tour?
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Why would they fire Josh Freeze, who is an amazing drummer?
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it doesn't matter.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: And and got along with that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_13: None of it makes any sense.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Right, it doesn't.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: So I wouldn't.
- 39:56SPEAKER_13: I don't know if there's some internal thing going on with the band or what?
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Wait to hear uh a statement from the Foo Fighters, and but that's everybody is kind of baffled.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: But Josh Freeze has uh released uh he thinks what the top ten reasons uh might be for his dismissal from the Foo Fighters, and it's it's it's pretty funny.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: It's pretty funny.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: All right, so uh I wish we had the uh David Letterman uh music.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Can we find that?
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm just curious.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: Because if we can at least get like a drumming or something.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: I know what I can do.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: You can prepare for the podcast, that's what you can do.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: How would we do that?
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Well, we didn't even know we were gonna do it.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: We didn't.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Uh here we go.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: Ten hour drummers.
- 41:21SPEAKER_13: Did you say ten hours?
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Ten hours.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: This is a ten-hour drum.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Anyway, uh, top ten possible reasons freeze got booted from the Foo Fighters.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: Number ten.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Once whistled my hero for a week solid on tour.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: Number nine, could only name one Fugazi song.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: Number eight, two words, polyrhythms.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Number seven, metronome-like precision behind the kit deemed soulless.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: Number six, demanded starting every rehearsal with a 20-minute cowbell sound bath.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Number five, never even once tried growing a beard.
- 42:13SPEAKER_13: Well, that is a problem.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: That is a problem, yeah.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: Number four, didn't show up to studio because Mercury was in retrograde.
- 42:20SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: Number three, promised noodles, he could be fourth guitarist.
- 42:27SPEAKER_11: Who's noodles?
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 42:28SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: Um, number two, refused to perform unless he was guaranteed a Ouija board and nunchucks after every show.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: And number one, apparently Josh Freeze is a is a big fan of poodles.
- 42:44SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, number one, the whole poodle thing was getting to be a bit much.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Those are the top ten possible reasons from Josh Freeze himself as to why he was booted from the Foo Fighters.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Well, that's at least he's a at least he's got a sense of humor about it.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: He does.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Because and that's one of the things he said in his statement.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: He's like, um, but I've been playing for a long time.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: I'll be okay.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm about to say he's gonna be fine.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's gonna be fine.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: He'll he'll hook up with somebody or he'll do you know, sessions or something.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, he'll be fine.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Um so but I still, you know, it's still weird.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: It is weird, yeah.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: Especially when there's no statement or anything.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just out of the blue.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: It's just like bam.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Um I'm curious now as to if I went to the Foo Fighters website, um look I'm just curious if they've maybe posted anything.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Uh or if it's still Mum is the word as to why uh they haven't posted it.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: They're they're not even loading.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: There's not even loading.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: It's either not loading or there's nothing there.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: Uh let me go to tour dates here.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, there's a their tour's in October.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Um so they've got time to prepare a new drummer.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: They'll be in Jakarta and Singapore and Tokyo and Osaka in October.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: So But there's nothing.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: Like, this is not not loading.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: This is there's nothing on their website.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: There's nothing there.
- 44:12SPEAKER_13: That's a little weird.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: It is a little weird.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: So anyway.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: Um we found this from Ultimate Classic Rock.com.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Uh the best song by eleven big hair metal bands.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: As opposed to eleven small hair metal bands.
- 44:31SPEAKER_13: I'm more interested in the small one.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: So I want to see, I want to read their list.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: And I wanna uh kind of see if we agree or if maybe we have an alternative answer.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: So this is and there's only 11 bands.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: So let's see.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Bon Jovi.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: They have picked Wan A Dead or Alive.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: As the best one?
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: As the best song from Bon Jovi.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: I disagree.
- 45:01SPEAKER_13: I wouldn't say it's the best.
- 45:02SPEAKER_13: It's one of the best.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I mean it's iconic.
- 45:05SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 45:05SPEAKER_13: But I wouldn't say it's the best.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Let me just read what they wrote.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: One of three star-making singles off the diamond selling Slippery When Wet.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Wanted Dead or Alive is a masterclass in self-mythology.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: Bon Jovi don't just view themselves as pop metal pretty boys, they're rock and roll outlaws up against the world, triumphing over adversity to bring their music to the masses.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: When I think Wanted Dead or Alive, I think of uh Turn the Page.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: From Bob Seeger.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: It's about it's kind of the same thing.
- 45:30SPEAKER_13: Yeah, it's kind of that, you know.
- 45:32SPEAKER_13: They're on the road.
- 45:32SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: Um But would you is there a is there a better Bon Jovi song to you?
- 45:39SPEAKER_13: Or one that one that um is because there's I would say a more a more a more recognizable one would be uh living on a prayer.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: I would too.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:50SPEAKER_13: Because even like Gen Z knows that song now.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:53SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: I would say prayer would be would be bigger than Dead or Alive.
- 45:58SPEAKER_13: As far as best, I I I wouldn't say best, but Yeah.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: Is there a best?
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: I would that's subjective.
- 46:05SPEAKER_13: Yeah, it's very subjective.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: That's subjective.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Uh but I would put prayer above Dead or Alive.
- 46:10SPEAKER_13: Yeah, definitely.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Cinderella, Gypsy Road.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Is that as their best song?
- 46:16SPEAKER_13: I wouldn't say it's their best song.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't either.
- 46:18SPEAKER_13: Not even close, man.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: What would you say is well I give me one that's better.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: It doesn't have to be their best one.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: But what's better than Gypsy Road?
- 46:28SPEAKER_13: Night Songs?
- 46:29SPEAKER_13: That's a great song.
- 46:33SPEAKER_13: What was that looking for?
- 46:36SPEAKER_13: Because I said night songs.
- 46:38SPEAKER_13: That's a great song.
- 46:40SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 46:40SPEAKER_13: Way too many songs.
- 46:42SPEAKER_13: Nobody's Fool?
- 46:43SPEAKER_13: Nobody's Fool's Great.
- 46:44SPEAKER_13: Uh Shelter Me.
- 46:45SPEAKER_13: Shelter Me is awesome, you know?
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Jeez.
- 46:50SPEAKER_13: Off of uh Long Cold Winter.
- 46:52SPEAKER_13: Um Bad Seam Trist Blues.
- 46:55SPEAKER_13: I love that song.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: Coming home.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:58SPEAKER_13: There's a lot of, you know, I wouldn't say Gypsy Road is a great song.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: The Last Mile is my favorite song.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: That's a great song.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Song off Long Cold Winter, actually.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: That's a great song.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Um I wouldn't say Gypsy Road is the best.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't either.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: No, I wouldn't either.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: Def Leopard, Photograph.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Not even close.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: No, I wouldn't say that either.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: And again, this is it's completely subjective.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Do you have do you have one that's better that you like better than Photograph?
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: I have several that I've got to pick up.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, I have several.
- 47:26SPEAKER_13: I mean anything off the hysteria album, you know.
- 47:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 47:30SPEAKER_13: I would say.
- 47:30SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 47:31SPEAKER_13: But you know, but that's just me.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Even uh even off Pyromania, I would put Die Hard the Hunter over the over Photograph.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: But again, that's that's just a stage fright.
- 47:39SPEAKER_13: I would put stage fright over that.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: That's just a taste, you know.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: Um Dawkin, in my dreams.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: Would you say that's their best song?
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: What's their best song?
- 47:52SPEAKER_13: Whatever.
- 47:54SPEAKER_13: Dream Warriors is my favorite one.
- 47:57SPEAKER_13: That's a great song.
- 47:58SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 47:58SPEAKER_13: You know?
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: I like uh Mr.
- 48:00SPEAKER_13: Scary's great.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: I like uh Burning Like a Flame.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Burning like I like Burning Like a Flame, you know.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Um In my dream maybe it's because it's like one of their biggest hits, maybe?
- 48:10SPEAKER_13: That's the only thing I can think of.
- 48:12SPEAKER_13: No, it's just me.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Kickstart My Heart, Motley Crue.
- 48:15SPEAKER_13: It's definitely great, but it's not the best.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't say it's their best either.
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see what they read.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: For better or worse, I felt like Motley Crue's entire career led up to Kickstart My Heart.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: The band had gotten progressively bigger and more polished throughout the decade, even as they their ramped up depravity threatened to destroy them.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: Eventually it did.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Nikki Six overdosed on heroin and was declared clinically dead for two minutes before Paramedics revived him ad revived him adrenaline.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: That's great writing.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Um The ordeal inspired Kickstart My Heart.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: He's got good read.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: He got good read.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, but I would I would You got good write.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Kickstart My Heart is pretty up there.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's definitely up there.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: But as far as the best, I I don't think it's I would put it in the top three.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: I really would.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: For Motley Crew.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: I would put it in the top three.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: But I yeah, I don't think it's their best.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: Poison.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Nothing but a good time.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: No.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: What would you say is is a better song from Poison?
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: Fallen Angel?
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: Fallen Angel.
- 49:16SPEAKER_13: That's that'd probably be their best song.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: I like that song.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Um, I like um Something to Believe In.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: The ballad.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that's pretty good.
- 49:24SPEAKER_12: Something to believe in.
- 49:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, that's a good one.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Rat, Round and Round.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: Of course, that was their biggest hit.
- 49:32SPEAKER_13: I actually would say that's probably.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: Would you?
- 49:34SPEAKER_13: Uh that actually probably is their best song.
- 49:36SPEAKER_13: I mean, they got some good songs, but don't get me wrong.
- 49:39SPEAKER_13: But that's probably their best one.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Again, subjective.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Subjective.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: I like uh What's the one I'm thinking of?
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: Holy cow.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: That one with a guitar?
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that one.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Um, I wanna I wanna find out.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: No guitar?
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: What it's uh what it's uh called.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: Because obviously, you know, I it can't be that good because I can't remember the name of it.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Um let's see.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: Compilation albums uh singles.
- 50:15SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: Uh for rat uh I liked see I'm I'm more of a pop guy.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm more of a pop c a big chorus guy, even though Round and Round is has a big chorus.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: I liked I Want a Woman, um Way Cool Jr.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: Way Cool Jr.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: That's a good song.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: I would think I I like that better than Round and Round, even though I I like Round and Round.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Uh Skid Row, Youth Gone Wild.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: Their best song?
- 50:51SPEAKER_13: I wouldn't say it's their best song.
- 50:52SPEAKER_13: It's pretty darn good.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:54SPEAKER_13: But I wouldn't say it's their best song.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: Uh name another one.
- 50:58SPEAKER_13: Slave to the Grind.
- 50:59SPEAKER_13: That was a great that whole album was pretty great, even though nobody really knows about it.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: Waste wasting time or wasted time?
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: That's not that same album.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: I think so, yeah.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: That was a good ballad.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: 18 in Life.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: I Remember You.
- 51:10SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I remember you, yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: So Yeah, I yeah.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: This is kind of hard because again, it's it's all subjective.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: Twisted Sister, we're not gonna take it.
- 51:19SPEAKER_13: Yeah, probably that's probably the pinnacle of their career.
- 51:22SPEAKER_13: You think so?
- 51:23SPEAKER_13: I mean, can you can you name any other Twisted Sister songs off your top of your head?
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: I wanna rock.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: But I still think You can't stop rock and roll?
- 51:33SPEAKER_13: I I still think that would be that would be nose.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: It's probably their top song.
- 51:38SPEAKER_06: I wanna rock rock.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Uh Warrant, I'm so glad they chose Uncle Tom's Cabin instead of Cherry Pie.
- 51:45SPEAKER_13: That that may be that might be one of their greatest songs.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Uncle Tom's Cabin, yeah.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 51:49SPEAKER_13: Absolutely.
- 51:50SPEAKER_13: That is a fantastic song.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Uh let me read what they wrote because they mentioned Cherry Pie here.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Poor Janie Lane, forced to live in the shadow of Cherry Pie, the boneheaded hit single that made him very rich and very miserable.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: The song gave Warren a bad rap, but if anybody listened past the first track on Cherry Pie, they quickly discovered the album's true masterpiece.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Uncle Tom's Cabin.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: From its eerie acoustic intro to its soaring chorus, the song is m master stroke of evocative storytelling and moody metal-edged hard rock.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: Would it have performed as well as Cherry Pie?
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: Probably not, but it's proof that Lane was one of the hair metals era's most gifted singers and songwriters.
- 52:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah, it's probably the best song on that album.
- 52:31SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: I would agree.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: I would agree.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: Uh Whitesnake, Still of the Night.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: That's pretty, pretty up there.
- 52:38SPEAKER_13: That's pretty darn close to the song.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: Um I mean, they got so many great songs, but I mean that's that's definitely a lot of people will probably say, Here I go again.
- 52:47SPEAKER_13: Yeah, but that's just that's more of like an anthem, you know.
- 52:50SPEAKER_13: Okay, because everybody knows it.
- 52:51SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you know.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: But still of the night.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Still the nights.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: With that, with that string thing in the middle, that string section.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: That whole breakdown.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's classic.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: I would say that's I agree with that one probably.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Still of the night.
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: And the still of the night.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: I hear the wolf how, honey.
- 53:07SPEAKER_13: Yeah, whatever.
- 53:08SPEAKER_13: That's a great that's a great song.
- 53:09SPEAKER_13: It's one it's one of my favorite, personal favorite white snake songs.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: So yep.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Um, I said we we uh we disagreed with a lot of that, but there's some that we can get behind.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Um before I go any further, I have to, you know, uh get something ready before I say anything further, just because I don't have it ready.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, sometimes we we think about these things and sometimes we completely forget about these things.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: Um the latter.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's it's time to um uh remember uh that it is.
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna do past, present, and future.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Today's past, not forget to do the future.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: We did it last week.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: We almost forgot.
- 54:12SPEAKER_12: We did it last we're gonna go to the podcast now.
- 54:16SPEAKER_12: Oh, wait a minute.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Alright, so past, past.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: I don't even remember what it was.
- 54:20SPEAKER_13: What it was the uh people watching.
- 54:23SPEAKER_13: Oh no, no, no.
- 54:23SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that's the no no no because I've I picked the No no, it was the Monday morning work song.
- 54:28SPEAKER_13: No, no.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: No, it wasn't.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: No, it was people watching because I picked Girl Watcher.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: Um a Girl Watcher.
- 54:34SPEAKER_13: Oh, yes, it was, yeah, it was it was that.
- 54:37SPEAKER_13: So this is what our judge said.
- 54:42SPEAKER_13: Uh let's see.
- 54:46SPEAKER_13: So this is what judginess has judged.
- 54:50SPEAKER_13: Because I call our judgingist judges.
- 54:53SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you're judging this.
- 54:54SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 54:54SPEAKER_13: Because that's how I said, hey, you're judging this.
- 54:57SPEAKER_13: You have a verdict for it.
- 54:58SPEAKER_13: That's how I started.
- 54:59SPEAKER_13: Um, I love people watching.
- 55:02SPEAKER_13: It's very interesting.
- 55:03SPEAKER_13: And while all the picks were really good, I had to go with people are strange.
- 55:06SPEAKER_13: Because, well, yeah, people are strange.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, good take.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: I'll go with that.
- 55:13SPEAKER_13: Uh still.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: Now we do the present.
- 55:16SPEAKER_13: Present.
- 55:20SPEAKER_13: So the pre present is the uh looking out of a win rainy day window song.
- 55:26SPEAKER_07: Uh-huh.
- 55:27SPEAKER_13: So uh this is what cousin Larry said.
- 55:30SPEAKER_13: Mixtape.
- 55:31SPEAKER_13: Well, first I thought about all the songs about rain out there, like Raindrop, Keep Falling on My Head, Rain by the Beatles, I Love Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbit.
- 55:41SPEAKER_13: Shout out to Aunt Betty.
- 55:42SPEAKER_13: She loves Eddie Rabbit.
- 55:43SPEAKER_07: Yes, she does.
- 55:44SPEAKER_13: But then I remembered O'Brien mentioning how he looks at the bigger picture, and I started thinking about what it would what I would be thinking about while looking out through a rainy window.
- 55:54SPEAKER_13: I think I would be reflecting on my life, which has had its ups and downs like everybody's, but has been really good so far.
- 56:00SPEAKER_13: Songs like In My Life by the Beatles, Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flats came to mind along with a slew of others.
- 56:08SPEAKER_13: But a country song by one of my wife's favorite artists came to mind.
- 56:12SPEAKER_13: You're gonna miss this by Trace Atkins.
- 56:14SPEAKER_13: Oh, wow.
- 56:15SPEAKER_13: Is my choice with honorable mention to Garth Brooks's Unanswered Prose.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: Doug, have you heard You're Gonna Miss This?
- 56:23SPEAKER_13: I think I have.
- 56:24SPEAKER_13: I think I know that song.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: This is uh this is um um no disrespect, but this is every parent uh should hear this song.
- 56:34SPEAKER_05: Because she was staring out the window of the bitches.
- 56:53SPEAKER_05: Complaining to you, and I can't believe it.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a great song.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very well written song, too.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Um but you know, to give you an example, uh, just this morning, um my wife is on her computer and um her sister had shared a memory.
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: You know, Facebook you can do that and share the memories.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: And it's uh a bunch of our kids uh standing out.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: We have a f uh my sister-in-law owns a farmhouse out on the Ashby Road.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: And um they were living there at the time, and there's a big rock out front of the farmhouse that says Ashby on it.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: It's the Ashby farm, it's like a family farm.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: And so like the Jews and Olivia are there, Eli and Finn.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Eli and Finn are like this tall.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: And it just I mean, I don't know how many years ago it was, but it was a long time ago.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: And you just look at that, and I said to her, I said, where did the time go?
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: You know, and it's that song is so true.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: You are gonna miss it.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: You don't you don't see it now.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: You may not know it now, but you will miss it.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: You you're thinking, you know, there's one in there where the everything is breaking, the heater's broken, and this is broken, and the you know the baby's crying, so and it's just chaos and turmoil, and you don't think i ever you will ever miss it.
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: But you do.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:06SPEAKER_10: Absolutely.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: So that's a great choice.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: That's a great choice.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: Um the force staring out the on a rainy day, is that what it is?
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: Staring at the window on a rainy day.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Alright, what's yours?
- 59:17SPEAKER_13: Which is cool, which is fine.
- 59:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 59:20SPEAKER_13: I went with I can see for miles by the four postman.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: By the four postman?
- 59:26SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 59:29SPEAKER_13: I don't know if I've ever heard that.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: It's only a minute long, so I can see for miles is a song by the who.
- 59:36SPEAKER_13: No.
- 59:36SPEAKER_13: Four postman.
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: I typed in four postman, it's not even coming up on YouTube.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, no, that's the who.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, the four postman.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Uh you sure it's called I can see for mouth?
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: What if I type a four postman and and then I can see?
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: I can see.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: That's the Who.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: Uh Doug.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: Do you do you have a copy of their song?
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: I I don't know.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: I don't you know I know you don't have it with you, but do you where do you listen to it?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_13: I have it on my iPod.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: Do you?
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_13: I used to have the CD.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_13: I got the C D from uh college station when I was DJing there.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: Uh let me uh I've got four years of high school Spanish.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_01: Nope.

- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: I've got a A Tan.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Let Me Make You Smile in Bed.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: The Lobster Quadrille, The Chainsaw Juggler.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_13: That's a good song.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: Um Mailman song.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: But it's not that's a three-postment.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: Rabbit Valley.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_13: Oh, Rabbit Valley's awesome.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: But it's not coming up.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_13: I'm not surprised.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_13: It's only a minute, like I said, it's only a minute.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: Is it's not a cover of the Who song?
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_13: No, definitely not.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, can do you have it on there?
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_13: I I I don't know if I can get it.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_13: I don't really have it.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_13: I give them a try.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_13: Oh, we've never had this problem before.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_13: I I'm not surprised because they're like I said, they're kinda underground.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Well, when you first when you said four postmen, I thought it was like a 50s group or something.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: Um Let me look and see if I can I got the uh Forgive me, shitty pop song.

- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's it.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, you said it's a minute long?
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is a minute long.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, miles and miles.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: It's called Miles and Miles.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm sorry.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: That's okay.

- 1:03:25SPEAKER_13: Cause I just love the episode, that headline.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_13: I can see the back of my head.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_13: Dude, is that Matt LeBlanc?
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_13: No, it's not.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_13: It looks like it, but it's not.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_13: Are you sure?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_13: I'm positive.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_13: I just think it's funny because they call themselves the four postmen, but there's only three of them.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_13: And the dog.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_13: They just make quirky off-beat songs like that.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_13: That was the first one I thought of.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_13: I was just like, that's funny.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: Um okay.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: So like uh cousin Larry said, sometimes I um see do the the bigger picture.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: Uh sometimes I just do a vibe.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_01: Just like a, you know, um, I don't know, when you hear when you hear the song that I'm about to play, I think of looking out the window on a rainy day.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_01: And it's from my Facebook friend, Jude Cole.
- 1:04:22unknown: One, two, three.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: So what's cool about that is of course it's just the vibe.
- 1:05:59unknown: Yeah.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: style of music that that is like uh from extreme pornography exactly yeah yeah um jude cole you know at that point in his career this is from a s an an album that he did at his house on his own you know no record label he released it himself and well um special uh recognition goes to this other jude cole song just because it has the word raining in it but I just didn't want people to think that that's the kind of music Jude Cole makes all the time he's a pop singer songwriter right he was just did that because he felt like it sure but this is raining on the moon I mean I'll go with either one of these but I thought I'll stick with the first one.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_14: Okay but you could look out the window at this point.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_14: Yeah I thought I'd be a little bit more and it it picks up from there but I'm not gonna waste a lot of time.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna go with the first pick You Make It Easy by Jude Cole uh just because I like the vibe.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah absolutely man it's definitely a rainy window vibe.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_01: So Jude Cole You Make It Easy The Four Postman Miles and Miles.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: Miles and miles now I can see for miles right exactly and um Cousin Larry Cousin Larry's Trace Atkins Trace Atkins uh you're gonna miss this great song yeah I love that song uh all right so that is mixed tape mixtape is oh okay now we get two features pick yeah yes let's not go by without picking one yes let's not make that mistake again this is picking the new song music okay this was fun okay what is it hold on I gotta get uh everything discombobulated here okay if aliens came to earth and vowed to destroy the planet unless someone played them the most epic love song of all time what would you play?

- 1:11:27SPEAKER_01: Actually what Hill Street Blues what is that?
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_01: No wait is it almost sounds like Hill Street Blues doesn't it does yeah that's not it though I have to learn that I'd like to learn I'd like to learn that song because I used to love that just the theme.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah the the theme was the best part of the show to me they don't make they don't make great TV things I was thinking the same thing you know because we were uh dialing around on Pluto TV the other day and Magnum PI was on and the intro to Magnum PI is a great reading calm on I mean they don't you're right they don't make intros for TV shows the way they used to make I mean like the best one of all time is Wings if you ask me I don't even remember that one.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_01: Oh it's amazing it's a beautiful piece of music oh wait no you're right it's it's a classical piece of music yeah yeah yeah yeah I mean they didn't write it for the show but it's definitely the best yeah yeah yeah you know as far as music was we talked about this once before I think yeah probably we've it's one of our rants you know uh TV's not as good movies aren't as good movies isn't you know nothing's as good anymore nothing is as good as it was in the 80s back in my day back in my day dirty kids let's uh let's start the uh climbing the wall of the I didn't even realize we're recording yeah we're recording I did I thought we were still on break my bad no we're recording goddammit well let's uh let's start that wall of tunes music now I'm done talking about drums I was confused and while Doug is reading from A Hard Days Right's hard about the Beatles I'm going to climb the Wall of Tunes and I'm going actually I'm gonna climb the what did I call it the racketons because we're gonna go country tonight just just to be different.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_13: Yeehaw Alright here we go so this is a little known song from the Beatles called Yes It Is.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_13: Yes it is yes it is yes it is a little known song John spoke about having once written love songs purely for the meat market and yet it's hard to find the songs he was referring to Yes It Is, though, was one song he felt particularly embarrassed about in later years.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_13: Scoffing at the line for red is the color that will make me blue John claimed it was nothing more than an attempt to rewrite this boy as it had the same chords, harmonies and double Dutch words.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_13: The lyric is a warning to a girl not to wear red because this is the color of this is the color that the that the singer's baby always wore.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_13: John's final verdict on the song was that it didn't work.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_13: It was released as the B side to take it to ride in both Britain and America during April 1965.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_15: It's actually kind of a pretty song but hold on I gotta hit I hit you you didn't even hit play man with that dude oh my god sorry we're getting all off your track here I was uh the ready wanna get on stage with us if you remember baby knows I've never heard this song never heard this song?
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: Never heard this song actually it's pretty nice it's actually kind of pretty that's one of the few it's it's it's an older it's an older beatles I don't have Pastmasters it's on Pastmasters that's one of the collections that I that I don't have.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_01: I have it um I have it I know you probably have everything because I I like the Beatles I know um before we get I like Beatles before we get to um I have an album I'm gonna let you guess here in just a second but I want to show you what I got at Blue Moose.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah because that's one of my one of my That's the only reason you go to this conference.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: Right exactly kids workshop professional nah blue moose Larry Carlton fingerprints okay this is uh this is like um smooth jazz okay um but you know Larry Carlton is well respected as a guitar player right uh Lukuther is one of Lukuther's favorite guitar players and um this is the one I was telling you about Paul Gilbert silence followed by a deafening roar uh just some of the song titles um what how do you say that you uh Eudaemonia Overture The Rhino Norwegian Cowbell I cannot tell a lie Bronx 1971 Sweet Modal The Gargoyle I still have that other girl uh Bultako Saturno and Paul vs Godzilla a lot of them are I think probably instrumental I have not listened to it yet I'm I'm hoping to I bet it's good though I'm hoping to take a listen to it um that's that one I'm jealous of hold on a second I'm gonna get to that last um I bought Enya because I like Enya it's very relaxing.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_01: Sure um I also bought uh the uh The World of Han Zimmer part two which is a two disc set uh has the Dark Knight soundtrack and a bunch of other nice pieces that he did I love movie scores right uh just that's like your thing it is my thing yeah it's I'm weird that way but this one I found uh and I I took a picture and sent it to you and you're what the heck is that totally jealous man so I've only listened to an uh because I was in a company vehicle and it does have a CD player.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_13: Oh wow so I popped it in and it doesn't have Bluetooth but it has a CD player.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_01: Right exactly so this is a six C D set.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_13: Is it an import?
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_13: It must be it looks like an import that's why I'd never seen it or heard of it.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_01: Uh it says a product of Radio Broadcast Music Limited Great Britain.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_01: Yep it's called Toto Box uh radio broadcast recordings from the archives so it was they were on radio as like a live performance on on radio oh probably BBC so I well not all BBC but pretty much so but they're like the C D number one is from 1990 and you know that it's got Love Has the Power Animal Georgie Porgy Child's Anthem I'll Be Over You Somewhere Tonight English Eyes Africa Out of Love.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_01: CD two is also from 1990 it's got uh different songs CD three is from nineteen ninety two for example it's got I'll Be Over You which was on CD one but it's just a different version different recording of it um CD four is also from ninety two C D five is from 2003 C D six is from nineteen ninety three check this out CD six from nineteen ninety three cut number one I keep forgetting Michael Bolton yeah right uh they also do uh with a little help from my friends they do uh Leto Shuffle uh Josie from Steely Dan well they basically did those right pretty much pretty much Dirty Laundry from Don Henley because those were all Toto playing in those songs on those songs.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_01: What I what I noticed when they put it in and I and I don't know if it was just bec because of the recording or if it was um the uh EQ in the van that I was using it may have been or a combination of both or it was pretty muddy.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: I mean the recording it was pretty muddy.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_01: That's too bad.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_01: Uh let me just because I have one right here let me just pop in C D6 into my trusty CD player and see if the sound sound quality still cruddy right because you know you were like dude I paid like$17 for this it was it was only$17 for six CDs so no that sounds pretty good I mean it's it's not the best recording no but it it's not bad.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_01: Let me let me hear what it's what the vocals sound like because Michael McDonald's worth the price of admission right there.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_01: I paid like I said I paid$17 for a six CD set of live performances.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_13: How much was it?
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_13: $17.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah that's not that's not bad at all that's pretty good yeah so especially for an import man so yeah that was uh that was my my big find I was I was pretty happy yeah I was I'm pretty jelly jelly man okay so getting back to the wall of tunes oh yeah forgot about that we do have an album it is a country artist we'll start we'll start there um so let the guessing is it a solo country guy solo country guy oh solo country well you already know it's a guy okay I I said solo country guy you said yeah solo country guy I did yes so solo country guy uh height of popularity um still very popular Brad Paisley nope no no Kenny Chesney uh no let's see he came out in the early eighties um George Strait had a huge career in the 90s what did you say he's still popular now George Strait yeah yeah of course yeah it's George Strait man he just he just um announced uh he had a concert recently and he announced that um he doesn't know how many more years he's gonna be doing it.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_01: Well he's 50,000 years old I mean come on the guy's gonna take a break sometime the road I mean because I mean he's well yeah yeah he should he should do a Vegas residency type well I think he did didn't he for a little while I don't know I think he should do it again.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_01: Absolutely man uh it's working out pretty good for hangar for Hagar this album is one of his newer ones actually um 2019 uh and it's actually one of my favorite George Strait albums there we go uh it's called honky tonk time machine um and not to be confused with Hot Tub Time Machine right he um had a lot of what he he doesn't usually look at this all this George Strait I have to go through it all okay he doesn't usually um up until I'm gonna say like 2010 maybe he never wrote his own songs he always used uh yeah Dean Dillon or you know he he uh used outside writers and he never wrote right his own songs and then in like 2010 or something his son Bubba yes that's his real name um wanted to start writing songs so he started writing songs with his son and Dean Dillon and they started showing up on albums and they were pretty good.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_01: Um one of them was even I think a hit a small hit for George Strait.
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_01: Um The Breath You Take is uh equal to the Breath You know The Breath You Take anyway I think is what it was called.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_01: But anyway um and this album uh first track written by George Straight Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon uh track number five written by George Strait Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon track number six written by George Straight Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon um Codigo number seven George Straight Bubba Strait Dean Dillon uh number nine George Strait Bubba Straight Dean Dillon same thing for ten um and uh eleven no no sorry and twelve um I think it's one of his best albums and I don't know if that has anything to do with the fact that he helped write the songs um my favorite song on here is one called Sometimes Love uh and I'll play a piece of I'll play a piece of every song but I'm gonna play a little bit more of that one.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_05: So this is the song that was well released to radio there were two that were released to radio gasoline and last the fire the firms of breed ice cream that's gonna all over good grammar L I L I V N Liban D R A G N jacket Anyway it is country this is true.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_01: Um this is one called Some Nights took up down the road towards Austin wound up in forward okay and then this is my second favorite song off this album God and Country Music it's kind of a neat song actually written by co-written by one of my favorite songwriters Lori McKenna this is just one of those juxtapositions you know the similarities between God and country music God and country music like whiskey and a prayer like Johnny Cash is all round to the ground
- 1:28:02SPEAKER_05: God in country music, they both never really change.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_05: You find them when you need them where you stand.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_05: There's always lost in the fountain.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_05: Darkness in the eyes of the light.
- 1:28:30SPEAKER_05: And some church and back road hockey taught tonight.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_05: It's a dance between sin and the salvation.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_05: Come header how there's two things still worth saving.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_05: God and country music.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_01: And country music.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_01: It's kind of neat.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_01: Kind of a neat neat music.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_13: Reminds me of that uh Brad Paisley one that he did with George Jones.
- 1:29:11SPEAKER_01: That he did with George Jones?
- 1:29:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, uh two country?
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, two country.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_01: Two country, yeah.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_01: Um and George Strait's grandson is on the end of that.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_01: It's pretty kind of kinning.
- 1:29:22SPEAKER_01: He's just singing two country music.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_01: Um but my favorite song with this album is one called Sometimes Love.
- 1:29:29SPEAKER_01: And I I think it's because of the music.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_01: Um the lyrics are great too, but uh I just really like this song.
- 1:29:48SPEAKER_05: She was a sometimes love, and every now and then touched that momentarily, brought out the best in me.
- 1:30:02SPEAKER_05: I didn't think that much of my heart could easily love it or leave it.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_05: Told myself I didn't need it, and years have gone back, she's moved on so a bad chapter.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_05: I close my eye, but she's not gone.
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_05: Oh, I am I still holding on.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_01: Sometimes love hangs around a little too long.
- 1:31:05SPEAKER_01: I think it's that I think it's that uh chord change in the chorus.
- 1:31:12SPEAKER_01: It's like a major seventh or min oh it's actually a minor seventh, I think, where it goes to.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_01: But it's it's musically.
- 1:31:18SPEAKER_01: I just I dig that little transition there.
- 1:31:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31:21SPEAKER_01: So uh that's one of my favorite tunes on the album.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_13: So anyway, uh the album is the the songwriting is definitely changed from the eighties.
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_13: You know, it's it's I I don't want to say it's matured, but it's it's not the same.
- 1:31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31:37SPEAKER_01: And it's it's uh writing about different things.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, um there's a song on here called The Weight of the Badge, which is about uh police officers.
- 1:31:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31:48SPEAKER_01: Um there's a song, there's a an outwardly well, let me play a little bit of that one.
- 1:31:53SPEAKER_01: There's an out he's he's never really done this before on a record.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, but in his at his age, he's not afraid to to go there now.
- 1:32:05SPEAKER_01: Um he gets goes religion on us.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_01: This is all What Goes Up.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_05: I walked through the valley of the shadow death, caught a glimpse of him when I couldn't catch my breath, I felt his presence in the darkest today.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_05: I've asked for direction and I've been shown the way I believe when I pray somebody when I fall on my knees, my words aren't falling on death, and he has the answers when the answers can't be found I know without a doubt.
- 1:33:13SPEAKER_05: What goes up comes down.
- 1:33:17SPEAKER_01: So I mean he he he had never done that before that I know of.
- 1:33:21SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:33:21SPEAKER_01: Where he kind of just went went out, and I'm playing these soft songs, these slow songs.
- 1:33:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's got some barn burners on here.
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_01: The honky tongue time machine, you know.
- 1:33:31SPEAKER_01: Um Blue Water is really good.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_01: Um it's not all slow and you know.
- 1:33:40SPEAKER_01: Um but I'm a huge fan of George Strait.
- 1:33:43SPEAKER_01: I always have been.
- 1:33:44SPEAKER_01: I blame my mother for that.
- 1:33:45SPEAKER_01: She had a record that I used to play when I was a kid.
- 1:33:48SPEAKER_01: Umky Tonk Time Machine is the album uh from the king of country music.
- 1:33:54SPEAKER_01: George Strait.
- 1:33:55SPEAKER_01: Uh so there you go.
- 1:33:57SPEAKER_01: That is, you won't hear that on today's country music.
- 1:34:03SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 1:34:04SPEAKER_01: And that's the thing, too.
- 1:34:06SPEAKER_01: They don't even play George Strait anymore.
- 1:34:08SPEAKER_01: Because he's not because he's a country.
- 1:34:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:34:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, thank god for people like Zack Tom.
- 1:34:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know if Zach Top is.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_01: No idea.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_01: Zach Top is a new artist that's playing traditional country music.
- 1:34:22SPEAKER_01: Like George Strait.
- 1:34:24SPEAKER_01: Um we're gonna get into weeds here, but I do have Zack Top as a debut album.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_01: Uh and it's pretty great.
- 1:34:33SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll just play you a bit of the the big hit that he has.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_01: Uh I never lie.
- 1:34:41SPEAKER_01: And they are playing this on the radio.
- 1:34:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, are they?
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_01: Surprise.
- 1:34:45SPEAKER_01: Which is great.
- 1:34:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, this sounds like a George Straight.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 1:34:48SPEAKER_03: It's been some time.
- 1:34:52SPEAKER_03: You still look like an angel.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_03: I heard you're doing fine.
- 1:34:59SPEAKER_01: Maybe when you hear the chorus, maybe you'll recognize it.
- 1:35:01SPEAKER_01: Got promoted back.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_03: Probably knocked out.
- 1:35:05SPEAKER_13: Not looking good.
- 1:35:07SPEAKER_03: And you met someone.
- 1:35:09SPEAKER_13: Doesn't it sound like something that streak would do or yeah, it sounds like something out of the late 80s, early 90s.
- 1:35:17SPEAKER_01: But listen to the chorus.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_01: The chorus is catchy attack.
- 1:35:23SPEAKER_03: I sleep like a baby.
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_03: I never don't play work.
- 1:35:32SPEAKER_03: I don't play with I don't know how to feel to hurt.
- 1:35:50SPEAKER_03: Which I could say a meet you.
- 1:35:54SPEAKER_01: But you know I never lied.
- 1:35:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I mean um I'm glad that Zach Top is is out there because you're right, they're not playing.
- 1:36:04SPEAKER_01: Somebody's gotta do it.
- 1:36:04SPEAKER_01: They're not playing George Strait anymore.
- 1:36:06SPEAKER_01: Or Alan Jackson or any of those guys.
- 1:36:09SPEAKER_01: Any of those guys.
- 1:36:10SPEAKER_01: So uh that is uh Wall of Tunes for episode two.
- 1:36:15SPEAKER_12: Oh, have we never done George Strait?
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:36:17SPEAKER_01: 243, episode 243.
- 1:36:19SPEAKER_01: 243.
- 1:36:22SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, I'm not sure if we've done George Strait or not.
- 1:36:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know, I don't I don't either.
- 1:36:34SPEAKER_01: But you know, I picked up the country tonight just because we like to mix it up.
- 1:36:39SPEAKER_01: I like sometime to play some of this uh movies and soundtrack stuff because I dig it.
