- Lucas: Luna, welcome back. Ready for episode eighty-nine? Luna: I am! I've been practicing my market phrases. I think I'm getting pretty good. Lucas: Oh, you definitely are. Today, let's add one more item to your shopping list. Something simple, very common. Luna: Ooh, what is it? Lucas: Eggs. In Malay, 'egg' is 'telur'. T-e-l-u-r. Telur. Luna: Telur. Lucas: Yes! Just like that. Telur. Let's say it once more. Telur. Luna: Telur. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you want to say 'I want eggs', you already know 'Saya mahu' from our previous market episodes. So 'Saya mahu telur.' Luna: Saya mahu telur. Lucas: Exactly. You want eggs. Now, let's say you're at the stall and you want to ask 'How much are the eggs?' Luna: I know 'Berapa harga' – that's 'how much'. So 'Berapa harga telur?' Lucas: Brilliant. Berapa harga telur? Perfect question. Luna: So I just add 'telur' at the end. Easy. Lucas: Exactly. Now, sometimes you may want a specific quantity. For example, half a dozen eggs. Dozen in Malay is 'dozen', same word. So 'setengah dozen' is half a dozen. Luna: Setengah dozen. So 'Saya mahu setengah dozen telur'? Lucas: Yes. Saya mahu setengah dozen telur. Try it. Luna: Saya mahu setengah dozen telur. Lucas: You're a natural. And one more very useful question: 'Telur ini segar?' – Are these eggs fresh? Because fresh eggs matter, right? Luna: Right! So 'segar' means fresh. Telur ini segar? Lucas: Yes. 'Ini' means 'this' or 'these'. So 'Telur ini segar?' Luna: Telur ini segar? Good. I can definitely use that. Lucas: Let's put it all together in a short scene. You walk up to the stall. What do you say? Luna: Um.. 'Saya mahu telur. Berapa harga telur?' Lucas: And the seller says 'RM5 sekilo'. Then you might ask 'Telur ini segar?' Luna: Telur ini segar? And they say 'Ya, segar.' Lucas: Then you say 'Saya mahu setengah dozen telur.' Luna: Saya mahu setengah dozen telur. Perfect. I can do this. Lucas: You absolutely can. Now, let's listen again to our key phrases. Repeat after me: telur. Luna: Telur. Lucas: Saya mahu telur. Luna: Saya mahu telur. Lucas: Berapa harga telur? Luna: Berapa harga telur? Lucas: Saya mahu setengah dozen telur.
