• 2:01
Speaker 2: we'll get to your calls and texts and some other
• 2:03
Speaker 2: things in the news to get to as well. A
• 2:05
Speaker 2: little programming note. Normally, we have Danny Jones with us
• 2:08
Speaker 2: on Monday. Danny had some medical things he had to
• 2:10
Speaker 2: take care of today. Got him rescheduled for Wednesday's show.
• 2:13
Speaker 2: Want to welcome into the show now, State Democratic Party
• 2:16
Speaker 2: Chair and Delegate from the 54th, Mike Pushkin. Good morning, sir.
• 2:19
Speaker 6: Welcome to the show.
• 2:20
  Speaker 1: Good morning.
• 2:21
Speaker 6: And it's an honor to be filling in for my
• 2:24
Speaker 6: friend Danny Jones this morning.
• 2:26
Speaker 2: Danny's fine. He just had some, he kind of forgot,
• 2:29
Speaker 2: I think he had some medical appointments today. So he'll
• 2:32
Speaker 2: be back with me on Wednesday. I'm having you on today, Michael,
• 2:36
Speaker 2: in your delegate role. I feel everyone knows you, frequent
• 2:40
Speaker 2: guest of the show in your role as a delegate
• 2:42
Speaker 2: and state Democratic Party chair. But we do offer interviews
• 2:46
Speaker 2: to every candidate. One free interview, you've heard me say
• 2:49
Speaker 2: it before, kind of get to know you type deal.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: And you do have opposition in this race to be elected.
• 2:55
Speaker 2: So we'll just do the standard meet the candidates segment.
• 2:59
  Speaker 6: How's that?
• 2:59
  Speaker 4: Great.
• 3:00
Speaker 6: I know I'm on as chair of the party, but yeah,
• 3:03
Speaker 6: this is my role as a delegate and a candidate
• 3:06
  Speaker 6: for re-election.
• 3:08
Speaker 2: All right, so give us your bio.
• 3:10
Speaker 6: Well, my name is Mike Pushkin. Mike Pushkin. Born and
• 3:12
Speaker 6: raised here in Charleston. For many years, I was a
• 3:16
Speaker 6: taxi driver with C & H Taxi for a long time.
• 3:21
Speaker 6: Also a former professional musician. I will still come out
• 3:24
Speaker 6: of retirement and play on certain occasions. I currently work
• 3:29
Speaker 6: for an agency that provides care for adults with intellectual
• 3:33
Speaker 6: and developmental disabilities. I also serve as the chair of
• 3:37
Speaker 6: the West Virginia Democratic Party, and I'm a member of
• 3:39
Speaker 6: the West Virginia House of Delegates and have the honor
• 3:41
Speaker 6: of representing District 54 that we're in right now, which
• 3:45
Speaker 6: is the East End, Downtown, West Side, and North Charleston.
• 3:49
Speaker 6: I currently serve as the ranking Democrat, the minority chair
• 3:54
Speaker 6: on the House Committee on Health and Human Resources, and
• 3:57
Speaker 6: I also serve on the House Committee on Education as well.
• 4:01
Speaker 2: How long have you been in the House?
• 4:03
  Speaker 1: Since 2014.
• 4:03
Speaker 2: What was it that made you first decide to go
• 4:08
Speaker 2: into politics in general? Well, I've worked on campaigns really
• 4:12
Speaker 2: for many, many years. I've either volunteered, occasionally would have
• 4:16
Speaker 2: paying gigs on campaigns, and I've always been interested in
• 4:20
Speaker 2: who represents us. I came to the conclusion a long
• 4:23
Speaker 2: time ago that if we really want to make change,
• 4:27
Speaker 2: We've got to have people in power that we can
• 4:30
Speaker 2: work with, people in a position to make these decisions
• 4:33
Speaker 2: for us that we can trust, that we know where
• 4:36
  Speaker 2: they stand.
• 4:37
Speaker 6: That's important. So I would work for candidates that I
• 4:40
Speaker 6: believed in for years. Then back in 2014, when my
• 4:44
Speaker 6: friend and my predecessor, Misha Poore, made the decision to
• 4:48
Speaker 6: run for Congress in I called her and had a
• 4:52
Speaker 6: discussion with her. I said, well, who's going to represent
• 4:54
Speaker 6: our neighborhood? Who's going to represent our district? And that's
• 4:58
Speaker 6: when I decided to step up and run. That was
• 5:00
Speaker 6: a very tough primary. I had ran against some great
• 5:03
Speaker 6: people who I still consider friends and won that primary.
• 5:09
Speaker 6: I've been in the House since then. And, of course,
• 5:12
Speaker 6: that was a significant year because that is the year
• 5:15
Speaker 6: that the control of the legislature went from the Democrats
• 5:18
Speaker 6: to the Republicans. So I came in. in the first
• 5:21
Speaker 6: Democratic minority in 83 years. So that was challenging, but
• 5:25
Speaker 6: that definitely changed the way that I approached things. And
• 5:28
Speaker 6: I thought, we're really going to have to focus on
• 5:30
Speaker 6: good policy if we're going to get things across the
• 5:32
Speaker 6: finish line. We're going to have to work in a
• 5:34
Speaker 6: bipartisan manner. So one of the first issues that I
• 5:37
Speaker 6: focused on really was criminal justice reform. You can find
• 5:41
Speaker 6: bipartisan support on that. It's good policy. It saves money,
• 5:44
Speaker 6: and it also saves lives. I was able to get
• 5:47
Speaker 6: one piece of legislation that I'm most proud of, which
• 5:49
Speaker 6: was the Second Chance for Employment Act, which allowed for
• 5:53
Speaker 6: reductions for folks, for certain nonviolent offenders to get charges reduced. Later,
• 5:59
Speaker 6: that became full expungement, and we worked that into what
• 6:04
Speaker 6: was originally called Jim's Dream, but then became Jobs and Hope.
• 6:07
Speaker 6: I was on the the House subcommittee, the Judiciary Subcommittee
• 6:11
Speaker 6: that helped create the Jobs and Hope program. And that
• 6:14
Speaker 6: is one of the things I am most proud of.
• 6:17
Speaker 6: I believe in the past decade in state government, the
• 6:21
Speaker 6: Jobs and Hope office is probably the most productive, most
• 6:25
Speaker 6: successful office that we've had in state government. It has
• 6:29
Speaker 6: broken down barriers to employment and helped people change their lives,
• 6:34
Speaker 6: save their lives. And it's a smart program. It saves
• 6:36
Speaker 6: the state a lot of money.
• 6:38
Speaker 2: Talking again with Mike Pushkin, what do you think are
• 6:41
Speaker 2: the issues bringing people out to the polls this year
• 6:45
Speaker 2: in general, not just your race in general?
• 6:47
Speaker 6: Well, there's a sign at every gas station. The gas prices,
• 6:52
Speaker 6: which affects grocery prices, which affects our utility rates. I
• 6:55
Speaker 6: think people are really upset about kitchen table issues that
• 6:58
Speaker 6: affect their day-to-day lives. And they seem to be less concerned.
• 7:03
Speaker 6: about the social issues this year, because it's hard to
• 7:05
Speaker 6: be concerned about these things that don't really affect you
• 7:08
Speaker 6: when there's so many things that do affect you, like
• 7:10
Speaker 6: the price of gas. You know, it takes a lot
• 7:11
Speaker 6: of money to fill up your car, your truck when
• 7:13
Speaker 6: you're going to work. That's affecting prices at the grocery store.
• 7:17
Speaker 6: These high utility rates that are out of control. There
• 7:20
Speaker 6: have been some solutions offered by the Democrats, and it's
• 7:24
Speaker 6: fallen on deaf ears. And people are just, I mean,
• 7:27
Speaker 6: it's always about the economy. It's always about affordability. I
• 7:30
Speaker 6: think James Carville said it. a long time ago, you know,
• 7:32
Speaker 6: it's the economy, stupid. And that's, what's bringing people to
• 7:35
Speaker 6: the polls this year.
• 7:36
Speaker 2: Is that what you're hearing when you're out on the
• 7:38
Speaker 2: campaign trail? We got talking to people. That's the number one,
• 7:40
Speaker 2: the number one or two, or maybe the second things
• 7:42
Speaker 2: that you're hearing out there.
• 7:43
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 7:43
Speaker 6: And it's not just around this district, but I mean,
• 7:45
Speaker 6: I was out with, with the, uh, the house Democrats
• 7:47
Speaker 6: and we've gone all over the state with our kitchen
• 7:49
Speaker 6: table tour. Uh, we just had a virtual statewide, you know,
• 7:52
Speaker 6: virtual call last night for that. We had one at Huntington.
• 7:56
Speaker 6: We've been here, we've been, you know, all over the state. And, um,
• 7:59
  Speaker 6: That's what we're hearing everywhere. It's about affordability. It's about
• 8:02
Speaker 6: the cost of living. And also, in many parts of
• 8:07
Speaker 6: the state, too, the issues are about clean water, about
• 8:11
Speaker 6: the people are really upset about House Bill 2014 that
• 8:15
Speaker 6: takes away local control in regards to regulating AI data centers.
• 8:19
Speaker 6: Hearing a lot about that. But yeah, people are really
• 8:22
Speaker 6: upset with the way things are going in this state
• 8:24
Speaker 6: and in this country. And they're showing up. And the
• 8:26
Speaker 6: early voting totals show that.
• 8:28
Speaker 2: We actually talked to the Secretary of State on the
• 8:31
Speaker 2: midday last week, and he said, I think we had
• 8:33
Speaker 2: him on the second day. Actually, there was a first
• 8:35
Speaker 2: day of early voting. He said it looked like the
• 8:37
Speaker 2: numbers were up. And I know a couple of county
• 8:40
Speaker 2: clerks have made that statement as well. Mike, it's not easy,
• 8:45
Speaker 2: you know, and sometimes in this state for Democrats.
• 8:48
  Speaker 6: To get elected.
• 8:49
Speaker 2: But the voters seem to like you because they put
• 8:53
Speaker 2: you in office every year since 2014.
• 8:54
Speaker 6: What do you attribute that to? Well, I hope I've
• 8:56
Speaker 6: earned their trust. I think people always know where I
• 8:58
Speaker 6: stand and they definitely know where to find me and
• 9:00
Speaker 6: how to find me. I pride myself on being accessible.
• 9:04
Speaker 6: I often give out my personal cell phone number, which
• 9:07
  Speaker 6: is 304-989-6856. That's 304-989-6856. I think it's important for me
• 9:16
Speaker 6: to be able to hear from people so I know
• 9:18
Speaker 6: how to best represent them. And like I said, I'm consistent.
• 9:24
Speaker 6: I'm willing to work with the other side as much
• 9:27
Speaker 6: as we can. And of course, we have to. Being
• 9:29
Speaker 6: in the minority right now, we have to work with
• 9:31
Speaker 6: the other side if we're going to get things done.
• 9:32
Speaker 6: But it's also important to stand up when we have
• 9:35
Speaker 6: to as well. And there's been this new extremism that
• 9:40
Speaker 6: we've seen on the other side. And I think the
• 9:42
Speaker 6: folks in the district that I represent want someone who
• 9:45
Speaker 6: will stand up to the extremism that we're seeing on
• 9:48
Speaker 6: the other side of the aisle as well.
• 9:50
Speaker 2: Talking again with State Democratic Party Chair and in this
• 9:52
Speaker 2: role in this morning's interview, Delegate Mike Pushkin, the Dave
• 9:55
Speaker 2: Allen Show on 580 Live, brought to you by Pinnacle Consultants,
• 9:58
Speaker 2: helping to identify environmental concerns. asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor
• 10:02
Speaker 2: quality issues in buildings all across the state, providing inspections, testing,
• 10:05
Speaker 2: and accredited lab services you can trust. Check out PinnacleCorp.net,
• 10:08
Speaker 2: helping you understand your environment because what you don't know
• 10:11
Speaker 2: can hurt you. I do want to ask you one
• 10:13
Speaker 2: thing about Democrats in general, then we'll get back to
• 10:16
Speaker 2: your campaign. There have been many, many folks, Republican and Democrat,
• 10:21
Speaker 2: that come on this show in midday, and the pollsters
• 10:24
Speaker 2: are saying that Democrats are going to pick up some seats.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: And not only nationwide, which most people think it's not
• 10:32
Speaker 2: going to be a kind year to Republicans nationwide, but
• 10:34
Speaker 2: in West Virginia, people are saying that Democrats are going
• 10:38
  Speaker 2: to pick.
• 10:38
Speaker 1: Up some seats. Your thoughts on that?
• 10:39
Speaker 6: We're cautiously optimistic. I mean, the polls that really count
• 10:42
Speaker 6: are the polls that are on election day and during
• 10:44
Speaker 6: early voting. And I would suggest, you know, Hope everybody
• 10:47
Speaker 6: gets out and vote. Voting, go vote right now. Early
• 10:51
Speaker 6: voting goes through Saturday. And then, of course, on Election Day,
• 10:55
Speaker 6: November 3rd. We're offering rides to the polls here in
• 10:58
Speaker 6: Kanawha County. You can call the Democratic headquarters over at 681-205-2626.
• 11:04
Speaker 6: And I'm doing that off the top of my head.
• 11:10
  Speaker 7: 681-205-2626.
• 11:10
Speaker 2: Or you gave out your cell phone or they can
• 11:12
  Speaker 2: always call you.
• 11:13
Speaker 6: They can call. I'll come pick you up.
• 11:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, there you go.
• 11:15
Speaker 6: Because you have experience. I have experience driving people around.
• 11:17
Speaker 6: I was a cab driver for a long time. But yeah,
• 11:21
Speaker 6: I think we're cautiously optimistic. But the reason that we're
• 11:24
Speaker 6: seeing this is because, look, the Republicans have been in
• 11:27
Speaker 6: control of every aspect of our government for a decade,
• 11:30
Speaker 6: over a decade here in West Virginia. And people don't
• 11:34
Speaker 6: like the way things are going. The vast majority of
• 11:36
Speaker 6: West Virginians feel we're on the wrong track and they're
• 11:38
Speaker 6: placing the blame solely where it belongs. And that's on
• 11:40
Speaker 6: the Republicans. So, you know, while we have, you know,
• 11:45
Speaker 6: seen our, you know, we definitely have challenging voter registration
• 11:48
Speaker 6: numbers here in West Virginia, but what we're seeing so
• 11:50
Speaker 6: far in the early voting are Democrats are showing up
• 11:52
Speaker 6: at a greater number. So that's significant considering our voter
• 11:55
Speaker 6: registration numbers that more Democrats are showing up so far.
• 11:59
Speaker 6: So we're optimistic, but, you know, polls don't vote, people do,
• 12:03
Speaker 6: and we'll see how, we'll see where the chips fall.
• 12:05
Speaker 2: Do you have a website or?
• 12:06
Speaker 6: Facebook or i do pushkin for wv.com.
• 12:10
Speaker 2: All right final 30 you know the way it works
• 12:12
Speaker 2: why should someone vote to reelect mike pushkin for house
• 12:15
Speaker 2: well i'll be very.
• 12:16
Speaker 6: Clear uh about where i stand i think that we
• 12:19
Speaker 6: need to update the school funding formula it is it
• 12:22
Speaker 6: is far uh overdue for us to do that we're
• 12:25
Speaker 6: seeing schools closed that's because the legislature failed to do
• 12:27
Speaker 6: one of the most important things we were supposed to
• 12:29
Speaker 6: do last session and that is update the full the
• 12:31
Speaker 6: school funding formula um In order to do that, we're
• 12:35
Speaker 6: also going to have to put some reasonable guardrails on
• 12:38
Speaker 6: the HOPE voucher program, the $ 300 million that was allocated
• 12:42
Speaker 6: to vouchers. We need to put some reasonable guardrails on that.
• 12:45
Speaker 6: I believe people should be able to see a doctor
• 12:47
Speaker 6: if they get sick. I believe in access to health care.
• 12:50
Speaker 6: I trust women and their doctors to make important decisions
• 12:53
Speaker 6: for themselves. I believe in a woman's right to choose.
• 12:56
Speaker 6: I think that we need to regulate the Public Service Commission,
• 12:58
Speaker 6: and I think our Public Service Commissioners should be elected.
• 13:01
Speaker 6: in answer to the people rather than the governor that
• 13:04
Speaker 6: appoints them or the industries that they used to work for.
• 13:07
Speaker 6: I support local control over AI data centers. Counties and
• 13:13
Speaker 6: municipalities should be able to regulate AI data centers. See,
• 13:18
Speaker 6: I'm for banning flock cameras. So you can agree with
• 13:21
Speaker 6: me or you can disagree, but you're always going to
• 13:23
Speaker 6: know where I stand. So Mike Pushkin running for reelection
• 13:26
Speaker 6: for House District 54, and I hope to have earned
• 13:28
  Speaker 6: your vote.
• 13:30
Speaker 2: Delegate Mike Pushkin, always a pleasure having you on the show.
• 13:33
Speaker 2: Best of luck to you, buddy.
• 13:34
Speaker 6: Good to see you, as always.
• 13:35
Speaker 2: And sorry about your jets. Let's not talk about that.
• 13:38
  Speaker 4: Go Knicks.
• 13:40
  Speaker 8: Go Knicks.
• 13:40
Speaker 2: But my team, you know, I told you earlier off
• 13:43
Speaker 2: the air, Tonight it'll probably be like 3-2 in this Philadelphia.
• 13:47
Speaker 2: Dak will trip and fall in the end zone, and
• 13:50
Speaker 2: Aubrey will kick a 91-yard field goal. So 3-2 will
• 13:53
Speaker 2: be the final score tonight.
• 13:54
Speaker 6: My prediction for the game is somebody might win.
• 13:56
  Speaker 1: Somebody might?
• 13:57
Speaker 6: Somebody might win that game. Mike Pushkin.
• 13:59
Speaker 2: 921, the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live, brought to

Speaker 5: moments as a lung and critical care doctor right here
• 14:26
Speaker 5: at home. In the state Senate, he brings that same approach. Listen,
• 14:31
Speaker 5: diagnose the problem, fix it. Lower costs, better care. Good
• 14:36
Speaker 5: jobs that keep our kids here. Not partisan politics, just results.
• 14:41
  Speaker 9: Dr.
• 14:42
  Speaker 1: Tom Takubo.
• 14:43
Speaker 5: Because West Virginia's people come first.
• 14:46
Speaker 1: Paid for by Takubo for Senate.
• 14:48
Speaker 10: This is Kanawha County Delegate Tristan Levitt. I grew up
• 14:51
Speaker 10: the oldest of seven kids in a working class family.
• 14:53
Speaker 10: We had hope in the American dream. But while I
• 14:55
Speaker 10: know what a paycheck has to cover, lately it doesn't
• 14:58
Speaker 10: cover enough for most West Virginians. So I'm fighting for
• 15:00
Speaker 10: good paying jobs, lower taxes, a lower cost of living
• 15:03
Speaker 10: for your family, And I'll always defend our West Virginia values.
• 15:07
Speaker 10: That's how we restore hope in the American dream. That's
• 15:09
Speaker 10: my agenda. It's why I'm asking for your vote. On
• 15:12
Speaker 10: November 3rd, please vote Tristan Leavitt for the House of Delegates.
• 15:15
Speaker 10: Paid for by Levitt for West Virginia.
• 15:17
Speaker 11: Kanawha County deserves a commissioner looking out for us. Paul
• 15:20
Speaker 11: Monroe graduated from Stonewall Jackson High and played football at
• 15:24
Speaker 11: WVU for Bobby Bowden. And Paul understands the importance of
• 15:28
Speaker 11: our outdoor economy. As a Charleston City Councilman, Paul Monroe
• 15:32
Speaker 11: led the efforts to tear down dilapidated buildings and improve
• 15:35
Speaker 11: street lighting. Paul Monroe is committed to bringing clean water
• 15:39
Speaker 11: to the whole county. Please vote for Paul Monroe and
• 15:42
Speaker 11: bring his experience to the Kanawha County Commission.
• 15:44
Speaker 7: Paid for by Paul Monroe for County Commission.
• 15:47
  Speaker 2: Charleston.
• 15:47
Speaker 12: There's a new bank in town, but it's built on
• 15:50
  Speaker 12: something timeless.
• 15:51
  Speaker 1: Relationships.

• 16:55
Speaker 2: Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony Vitale, text 304-935-50081. Welcome to the
• 17:02
Speaker 2: show now. Kanawha County Commissioner Natalie Tennant. Good morning, Commissioner.
• 17:06
Speaker 8: Welcome to the show.
• 17:08
Speaker 7: Good morning. It's good to be with you.
• 17:09
Speaker 4: I'm sorry I'm coming live from the phone from the
• 17:13
Speaker 4: farm in Fairview. Um, but I still get to talk
• 17:16
Speaker 4: to you. I'll be down in Kanawha County by noon.
• 17:19
Speaker 2: How many F's can you get in there? I mean,
• 17:21
Speaker 2: you got, well, phone is PH Dave, but I mean,
• 17:24
Speaker 2: you got from the farm on the phone in Fairview.
• 17:28
  Speaker 2: f sounds i should say well that's.
• 17:30
Speaker 4: What we do we had a family tenant family fall
• 17:33
Speaker 4: festival fest at the farm i don't know for some
• 17:37
Speaker 4: reason near fairview yeah i haven't seen i wanted to
• 17:40
Speaker 4: say i'm sorry about your your your stepmom thank you
• 17:44
Speaker 4: um you had some really nice things and people were
• 17:46
Speaker 4: were um talking about that and i know it's tough.
• 17:50
Speaker 2: She was a lovely lady. And man, could she cook.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: I mean, she could. All that matters, huh? She was very,
• 17:57
Speaker 2: very sweet. I'll talk about her a little bit later
• 17:58
Speaker 2: on the show. I appreciate that. I want to get
• 18:00
Speaker 2: into this a little deeper later in the show, but
• 18:02
Speaker 2: this speed limit. And we have a story posted about
• 18:05
Speaker 2: it at WVMetroNews.com. The speed limit is going down on
• 18:07
Speaker 2: the interstates around Charleston due to some deadly accidents that
• 18:11
Speaker 2: have taken place. Talk about the county commission's role in this.
• 18:14
Speaker 4: Yes, we said, and it's so interesting.
• 18:16
Speaker 7: When I come back from Fairview.
• 18:17
Speaker 4: I always take that, you know, obviously 79 south. And
• 18:22
Speaker 4: there are two areas as I'm approaching. The one that's
• 18:26
Speaker 4: meant shows that there's a, you know, a big slowdown
• 18:29
Speaker 4: you have to take while it's.
• 18:30
Speaker 7: On the interstate. And then those.
• 18:32
Speaker 4: Coming right in by the split. And I was driving
• 18:36
Speaker 4: last week and I thought we need to do something.
• 18:38
Speaker 4: And then lo and behold, President Ben Salinga says, we're
• 18:41
Speaker 4: going to send this letter.
• 18:42
Speaker 7: Out if everyone approves.
• 18:43
Speaker 4: And so we approved just to say that we are
• 18:46
Speaker 4: paying attention and we want to see something done, some
• 18:51
Speaker 4: kind of work acknowledgement plans to help slow this down
• 18:59
Speaker 4: because we've had too many deaths in too short amount
• 19:03
Speaker 4: of time and too many deaths anytime is bad. And
• 19:07
Speaker 4: we recognize that it's also driver behavior, that drivers need
• 19:12
Speaker 4: to go slower. But sometimes that's why you have rumble strips.
• 19:16
Speaker 4: That's why you have extra barriers. That's why you have
• 19:20
Speaker 4: a slow of speed because all of those things together
• 19:24
Speaker 4: would help when a driver is unfamiliar with an area.
• 19:28
Speaker 4: And that's what it felt like on this last accident
• 19:31
Speaker 4: that we had. And so we sent a letter asking
• 19:34
Speaker 4: for immediate safety measures to be put into place.
• 19:39
Speaker 2: And again, the speed limit has gone down from 60
• 19:41
Speaker 2: to 50. But, you know, I mean, I'm really hoping
• 19:45
Speaker 2: that people will adhere to that. And again, I'm going
• 19:47
Speaker 2: to talk about that a little bit later on. I
• 19:48
Speaker 2: want to switch gears for a moment. Early voting is
• 19:51
Speaker 2: going on through the end of the week. I have
• 19:53
Speaker 2: to ask you, are you an early voter or an
• 19:55
  Speaker 2: Election Day voter?
• 19:57
Speaker 4: I'm a little bit of both. Sometimes I will early vote,
• 20:01
Speaker 4: but as long as I know some of my family
• 20:04
Speaker 4: members are going to go on election day, or if
• 20:06
Speaker 4: they early vote, I will go on election day just
• 20:08
Speaker 4: because I like to hear what's been happening in various locations.
• 20:14
Speaker 4: As a county commissioner, and someone who's not on the ballot,
• 20:18
Speaker 4: I have a better opportunity. I will probably stop in
• 20:22
Speaker 4: this week and and obviously can't go to the voting area,
• 20:26
Speaker 4: but back to the offices to the right of voter
• 20:29
Speaker 4: registration and check things out. However, we have such a
• 20:35
Speaker 4: great Saturday coming up. Valentine's Day. Halloween is on a Saturday.
• 20:40
  Speaker 7: Right, right.
• 20:41
Speaker 4: It's the day that we have an extra hour of Halloween,
• 20:45
Speaker 4: and you can vote on Halloween.
• 20:48
  Speaker 7: And so.
• 20:49
Speaker 4: I mean, in their stroll to the polls at noon.
• 20:52
Speaker 4: And so can we all not go stroll to.
• 20:55
Speaker 7: The polls at noon dressed like in a Halloween costume?
• 20:57
Speaker 7: No one's ever done that before.
• 21:00
Speaker 2: As long as it doesn't have a political candidate on
• 21:03
Speaker 2: your person, as you well know. Other than that, you're good,
• 21:07
  Speaker 2: I guess, right?
• 21:08
  Speaker 7: Exactly.
• 21:09
Speaker 4: So I'm thinking, but you also can't have a mask probably.
• 21:14
Speaker 4: You have to be able to show your face. People
• 21:17
  Speaker 4: will recognize me.
• 21:18
Speaker 7: By my laugh and my voice.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: But remember back in our time of Halloween when it
• 21:25
Speaker 4: was plastic masks? sweaty mask we're on, that would be
• 21:28
Speaker 4: awesome to go in voting like that and just flip
• 21:30
Speaker 4: it up on your head when they need to identify me,
• 21:32
Speaker 4: then go back and put it down.
• 21:33
Speaker 2: The scariest thing about Halloween growing up in the 1970s
• 21:37
Speaker 2: was the constant risk of suffocation inside those plastic masks.
• 21:41
  Speaker 6: That's for sure.
• 21:45
Speaker 2: You know, because you are a former Secretary of State
• 21:47
Speaker 2: and a county commissioner now, and the county commissioner, of course,
• 21:51
Speaker 2: you know, the county commissions in general have a big
• 21:53
Speaker 2: part in the election process.
• 21:54
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 21:55
Speaker 2: Impress upon people why it's important to get.
• 21:57
  Speaker 6: Out and vote.
• 21:59
Speaker 7: Well, we've heard so many things happening.
• 22:01
Speaker 4: I mean, everything that you do has, I don't want
• 22:05
Speaker 4: to say political, but does have ramifications of someone who
• 22:10
Speaker 4: was elected who may have said, oh, we need... the
• 22:14
Speaker 4: speed limit at 60 or at 50. Everything that has
• 22:19
Speaker 4: taken place has been a ramification of policy.
• 22:23
Speaker 7: And so you want someone who.
• 22:25
Speaker 4: Is going to represent your policy. And how are you
• 22:28
Speaker 4: going to get that someone to represent what you think
• 22:31
Speaker 4: is important? You have to vote for them. You have
• 22:33
Speaker 4: to find them and you have to find them on
• 22:36
Speaker 4: the ballot, support them, and then.
• 22:38
Speaker 7: Go vote for them. So that is the reason.
• 22:40
Speaker 4: If you want something done, you need to to vote
• 22:45
Speaker 4: for that person and get out and vote. I mean,
• 22:47
Speaker 4: Pushkin was just on there talking about some of the
• 22:50
Speaker 4: various policies, and it really does, the public is aware,
• 22:56
  Speaker 4: the public is.
• 23:00
  Speaker 7: Angry.
• 23:00
Speaker 4: In some cases, yes. Like, I'm the public who was
• 23:05
Speaker 4: influenced from the legislature, and I'm angry about House Bill
• 23:08
Speaker 4: 2014 that took the local control from county commissioners.
• 23:14
Speaker 7: And that's the thing.
• 23:16
Speaker 4: We in Kanawha County have been so public.
• 23:20
Speaker 7: We have meetings. We don't have town hall meetings.
• 23:24
Speaker 4: We don't have public hearings. We have county commission meetings
• 23:27
Speaker 4: where people can come and the public can speak. And
• 23:30
Speaker 4: we've had that on many occasions where large groups come,
• 23:35
Speaker 4: whether they're talking about the power line, whether they're talking
• 23:39
Speaker 4: about the plastics plant in the eastern part of the county,
• 23:42
Speaker 4: whether they're talking about data centers. And so we hear
• 23:47
Speaker 4: a lot of what the public is saying, and we
• 23:50
Speaker 4: listen to it in.
• 23:51
  Speaker 7: A professional, yes, but a.
• 23:57
Speaker 4: Manner in which we do not get loud, neither side
• 24:01
Speaker 4: gets loud, and we listen.
• 24:03
Speaker 7: To each other. You mentioned that's why voting is so important.
• 24:06
Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate that. Natalie Tennant here, Kanawha County Commissioner.
• 24:10
Speaker 2: You mentioned the Clean Seas facility in Bell. There's been
• 24:13
Speaker 2: a lot of questions about that. There's been a little,
• 24:16
Speaker 2: I mean, Commissioner Salango was on the show on a
• 24:18
Speaker 2: couple of different occasions and thought that there was not
• 24:21
Speaker 2: a whole lot of transparency on behalf of that company,
• 24:24
Speaker 2: you know, not wanting to come here and.
• 24:26
  Speaker 1: Meet with people.
• 24:27
Speaker 2: Anything new to mention about the Clean Seas facility, the
• 24:31
Speaker 2: proposed facility in Bell?
• 24:33
Speaker 4: As you know, we met on Zoom, Commissioner Slango and
• 24:39
Speaker 4: I and our county manager. So that was the latest,
• 24:44
Speaker 4: and Commissioner put out some information on that. There's been
• 24:48
Speaker 4: nothing new since then, and it comes in the same,
• 24:52
Speaker 4: you know, I want to see them because, yes, I
• 24:55
Speaker 4: was the one who went to the opening in July
• 24:59
Speaker 4: of the end of June, July of 2025, and And
• 25:02
Speaker 4: wasn't quite sure and thought, oh, this is jobs. I'm
• 25:06
Speaker 4: going to go support a business. I'll go to any
• 25:08
Speaker 4: opening that you have if we're going to get jobs
• 25:10
Speaker 4: in Kanawha County. Well, we didn't know the full extent
• 25:14
Speaker 4: of their administration background, how the $ 15 million that then-Governor Justice.
• 25:23
Speaker 7: Gave them, how that would totally work. And it just
• 25:26
Speaker 7: comes with more and more questions.
• 25:29
Speaker 4: And the people of the eastern part of the county
• 25:31
Speaker 4: have certainly shown up. And I'm still working to get
• 25:37
Speaker 4: maybe even the vice president. We talked to the president,
• 25:39
Speaker 4: but maybe even the vice president who can come and
• 25:42
Speaker 4: have cordial meetings with some of the folks to really
• 25:48
Speaker 4: hear what the... the people are concerned with and what
• 25:54
Speaker 4: is really going to happen with the company. Because remember,
• 25:59
Speaker 4: the DEP approved it, but then there's been a suit
• 26:02
Speaker 4: that pushes things back like 60 days or so. And
• 26:05
Speaker 4: so we'll learn more from that as.
• 26:08
Speaker 7: More information comes out in those pending actions.
• 26:12
Speaker 2: We had a text question here. It said, not sure
• 26:15
Speaker 2: if this is a county commissioner question or city of
• 26:16
Speaker 2: Charleston question. But I'll just throw it out to you.
• 26:19
Speaker 2: They were talking about Lately Field, and they said there's
• 26:21
Speaker 2: a big yellow wall that sits in one of the
• 26:24
Speaker 2: end zones that's covered with weeds, and the paint is
• 26:26
Speaker 2: peeling away. Could we get that fixed before the state
• 26:29
Speaker 2: high school football championships, maybe paint a mural of Charleston
• 26:32
Speaker 2: or some evergreen stuff, hide the wall to make Charleston shine?
• 26:35
Speaker 2: I don't know if that's in the county commission purview
• 26:37
  Speaker 2: or not.
• 26:39
Speaker 4: I think that we could help tell folks about it.
• 26:42
Speaker 4: It also might even be the Board of Education purview.
• 26:45
Speaker 7: I'm not sure who owns it.
• 26:47
Speaker 4: I know that University of Charleston has a little skin
• 26:51
Speaker 4: in the game, Board of Education, the city, but I'm
• 26:55
Speaker 4: sure that we will be spick and span come that
• 27:00
Speaker 4: weekend in December when the state high school football comes
• 27:03
  Speaker 4: on down.
• 27:06
Speaker 2: The flood cleanup continues in several areas in West Virginia. FEMA,
• 27:10
Speaker 2: the SBA are on the ground. I actually had a
• 27:12
Speaker 2: representative of the Small Business Administration on the show last
• 27:16
Speaker 2: week talking about the loan process for victims. People are
• 27:18
Speaker 2: still cleaning up. What can you tell us about that?
• 27:22
Speaker 4: Yeah, and I know that it's been on the media
• 27:25
Speaker 4: a lot, and we've talked about.
• 27:26
Speaker 7: It and had it on our.
• 27:27
Speaker 4: Social media for Kanawha County, but I just want to
• 27:30
Speaker 4: keep reminding folks that You know.
• 27:33
  Speaker 7: We're on.
• 27:33
Speaker 4: It was August 14th to the 18th when there were
• 27:37
Speaker 4: high waters that came through. And so if you were
• 27:39
Speaker 4: impacted in Kanawha County, Fayette County, I think Harrison County,
• 27:42
Speaker 4: and there's another county, I think, that you can come
• 27:47
Speaker 4: and talk with FEMA folks. bring your receipts, bring the
• 27:52
Speaker 4: work that you can show that you have done, whether
• 27:55
Speaker 4: you had a little bit of water in your house
• 27:57
Speaker 4: or a lot. And it's over at GoMart offices up
• 28:01
Speaker 4: on the second floor. And go in and meet with, yeah,
• 28:05
Speaker 4: the ballpark. Yeah, not the gas company, not the gasoline
• 28:09
Speaker 4: convenience stores, but the ballpark, sorry. And go and meet
• 28:13
Speaker 4: with folks and make sure that that you get the
• 28:16
Speaker 4: help that you need and that you deserve. Because remember,
• 28:19
Speaker 4: we still say that, you know, right after that flooding,
• 28:22
Speaker 4: we said, please fill out these surveys, fill out these
• 28:24
Speaker 4: surveys to tell us how bad the situation is. So
• 28:28
Speaker 4: then we can take the information to the state, the
• 28:31
Speaker 4: state can take it to the federal and.
• 28:33
Speaker 7: We can ask for female relief.
• 28:35
Speaker 4: And it's all that cooperation that made this disaster recovery
• 28:41
Speaker 4: center possible right now.
• 28:43
Speaker 2: Before we let you go, I'll just give you an opportunity.
• 28:45
Speaker 2: Anything else on your mind that you want to want
• 28:47
Speaker 2: to speak about today, Commissioner?
• 28:49
Speaker 7: Oh, yeah. The election's on our mind.
• 28:51
Speaker 4: And that's, you know, I'm not up. I'm not up
• 28:55
  Speaker 4: until 2030. But that doesn't mean I'm not a voter
• 28:58
Speaker 4: and I'm listening to all the folks. Heck, even up here,
• 29:00
Speaker 4: you know, there's a state Senate candidate who's running in
• 29:05
Speaker 4: Marion County, Chris Claypole, who says, you know, it's time
• 29:07
Speaker 4: to get the the power back to the counties. And
• 29:10
Speaker 4: he specifically said commissioners when it came to data centers.
• 29:13
Speaker 4: So I listen to candidates.
• 29:16
Speaker 7: Wherever they are. I love the commercials.
• 29:18
Speaker 4: I love the debates, but I don't love the negativity.
• 29:23
Speaker 7: And this is really interesting.
• 29:25
Speaker 4: And maybe I come back on, I guess it would
• 29:26
Speaker 4: have to be this week. We have $ 200, 000 of hidden,
• 29:30
Speaker 4: we call it dark money because it's in the shadows
• 29:33
Speaker 4: and we can't see it, that's going into a Kanawha
• 29:35
Speaker 4: County race. That is unbelievable.
• 29:38
Speaker 7: That's just what we... those are what we don't know.
• 29:41
Speaker 4: The candidates themselves had tried to raise money and tout themselves.
• 29:46
Speaker 4: And that's something that you have to watch out for.
• 29:49
Speaker 4: So yes, this next, it's going to be fun time
• 29:52
Speaker 4: over these next seven days or eight days.
• 29:55
Speaker 2: County Commissioner, Kanawha County, Natalie Tennant, always a pleasure to
• 29:58
Speaker 2: have you on the show. I appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
• 30:01
  Speaker 1: Thank you.
• 30:02
  Speaker 7: 23.
• 30:02
  Speaker 8: Yeah.

• 30:15
Speaker 2: must have tickets to enter. And the tickets are going quick.
• 30:17
Speaker 2: A matter of fact, during the break, I'm probably going
• 30:19
Speaker 2: to step out in the hall and talk to Antoine,
• 30:20
Speaker 2: see how many tickets we have left because generally speaking,
• 30:23
Speaker 2: these things sell out. And by sellout, I mean, again,
• 30:26
Speaker 2: it's free, but you have to have a ticket to
• 30:28
  Speaker 2: get in.
• 30:28
  Speaker 1: Tickets are available.

• 31:06
Speaker 3: in Beckley. If you are looking for a construction company,
• 31:09
Speaker 3: I would strongly recommend Jarrett Construction. John and his team
• 31:11
Speaker 3: walked us through the process of building our church from
• 31:13
Speaker 3: conceptualization to having a finished, fully functional building. When you build,
• 31:17
Speaker 3: there are always challenges, and you need a partner who
• 31:19
Speaker 3: will be present, take responsibility for the finished product, and
• 31:22
Speaker 3: effectively manage time and money. The team at Jarrett Construction
• 31:24
Speaker 3: was a godsend to us, and I'm excited to recommend
• 31:27
Speaker 3: them to other churches, businesses, or anyone needing a construction

Speaker 13: who will listen, treat you fairly, and follow the law.
• 31:40
Speaker 13: I'm Ryan Ball, and I'm running for circuit court judge
• 31:42
Speaker 13: in Putnam County. With 12 years of legal experience as
• 31:45
Speaker 13: a public defender, guardian ad litem, and prosecutor, I'm ready
• 31:49
Speaker 13: to serve from day one. I believe justice should be
• 31:52
Speaker 13: based on the facts and the law, not politics or
• 31:54
Speaker 13: personal agendas. Ryan Ball, experienced in the law, independent in judgment.

• 32:13
Speaker 9: voted to make our electric and gas bills lower. Ann
• 32:16
Speaker 9: Charnock stands with our teachers and children. Ann voted for
• 32:20
Speaker 9: more pay for teachers and to put millions more into
• 32:23
Speaker 9: our kids' education. We know our families can count on
• 32:27
Speaker 9: Ann Charnock. Let's vote for Ann Charnock for State Senate.
• 32:31
Speaker 2: Paid for by Sharnock for WV, Beth Pugh Treasurer.

• 33:05
Speaker 2: It is 19 minutes away from 10. It's a Monday morning.
• 33:09
Speaker 2: I checked with Antoine out at the front desk there,
• 33:12
Speaker 2: and he says we have about 50 tickets. left for
• 33:15
Speaker 2: trick or beat and again it's two sessions this coming

• 34:09
Speaker 12: They do it all.
• 34:10
Speaker 2: They're looking at 516 D Street in South Charleston. Text, Dave,
• 34:19
Speaker 2: I can't see politically how any real impact can be
• 34:22
Speaker 2: made on the business who nationally decided to do these
• 34:25
Speaker 2: drastic price increases. I'm very concerned how middle class citizens
• 34:28
Speaker 2: can handle the current situation. You and a lot of
• 34:32
Speaker 2: other folks. Let me see here. text, Dave, I totally
• 34:39
Speaker 2: understand people wanting to change their vote. Just because the
• 34:42
Speaker 2: shepherd is not leading the lambs correctly doesn't mean you
• 34:44
Speaker 2: go vote for the wolf, says a texter. Early voting
• 34:50
Speaker 2: continues today and through Saturday in West Virginia. Now in
• 34:53
Speaker 2: Kanawha County, you can early vote at voter registration, Courier

Speaker 2: Street downtown at the South Charleston Community Center, the Girl

• 35:14
Speaker 2: at the courthouse and at the Valley Park Conference Center.
• 35:19
Speaker 2: And speaking of voting and such, I do want to
• 35:21
Speaker 2: mention that if you are a candidate and you want
• 35:23
Speaker 2: time with me, free, it's simple. Drop me an email, dave.allenwvradio.com, dave.allenwvradio.com.
• 35:32
Speaker 2: Get with me like, you know, yesterday, because they only
• 35:35
Speaker 2: have a few slots left. Election Day is Tuesday. I
• 35:39
Speaker 2: give every candidate one free interview, 10-minute or so interview.
• 35:44
Speaker 2: Can be done by phone or Zoom, but I prefer
• 35:47
Speaker 2: to have them actually in person, as most of them do.
• 35:51
Speaker 2: But get with me. You get one interview for free. Dave.AllenWVRadio.com, Dave.AllenWVRadio.com.
• 36:00
Speaker 2: No phone calls, please. And you can also reach out
• 36:03
Speaker 2: to me on social media, which you should already be
• 36:05
Speaker 2: following me on social media anyway. Dave Allen Radio on
• 36:08
Speaker 2: Facebook and at DaveA70 on X. Perhaps the state should
• 36:15
Speaker 2: put speed bumps on the elevated sections of the interstate
• 36:19
Speaker 2: or maybe even a roundabout to slow people down.
• 36:22
Speaker 1: Well, we don't do well.
• 36:25
  Speaker 11: Yeah.
• 36:25
Speaker 2: I appreciate the text. You started talking about roundabouts in
• 36:28
Speaker 2: West Virginia and people get all upset. Look what happened
• 36:31
Speaker 2: over in Putnam County when they started talking about it.
• 36:33
  Speaker 2: And I understand it wasn't just a roundabout there's property
• 36:36
Speaker 2: issues and so on and so forth. As I've said before,
• 36:39
Speaker 2: God bless our home state of which I am a resident.
• 36:41
Speaker 2: We can't successfully do three-way stops, uh, or four-way stops.
• 36:46
Speaker 2: So don't know that roundabouts are going to work. Uh, but, uh,
• 36:49
Speaker 2: That speed limit has been reduced. Again, the interstates around
• 36:52
Speaker 2: Charleston going from 60 to 50. So please make note
• 36:55
Speaker 2: of that. Dave, what's up with your buddy J.B. McCuskey
• 37:01
Speaker 2: attacking the West Virginia River Coalition? Does he hate healthy rivers?
• 37:04
Speaker 2: Does he despise clean drinking water? Is he just trying
• 37:08
Speaker 2: to please his fossil fuel donors? The fish and the
• 37:11
Speaker 2: turtles aren't happy. This is not the way for a
• 37:15
Speaker 2: gubernatorial nomination, according to a texter. Uh, text, um, other,
• 37:23
Speaker 2: other fears of Halloween slicing your tongue off in the
• 37:27
Speaker 2: mask mouth. It was as sharp as a razor blade
• 37:29
  Speaker 2: in an apple.
• 37:30
  Speaker 6: That's a texture.
• 37:32
  Speaker 1: Indeed.
• 37:33
Speaker 2: 945, uh, on a personal note and, uh, commissioner tenant
• 37:37
Speaker 2: mentioned this earlier, just prior to a local show, uh,
• 37:40
Speaker 2: on Friday, uh, I learned that my stepmother had passed away.
• 37:44
Speaker 2: Her name was Audrey. and due to health issues, she
• 37:47
Speaker 2: was living in Sissonville with my sister, who is a
• 37:50
Speaker 2: nurse by trade. Audrey was 75 and just a wonderful lady,
• 37:55
Speaker 2: great cook, too. I'm talking about the good old Freewell
• 37:58
Speaker 2: Baptist cook, if you know what I mean, or as
• 38:00
Speaker 2: my dad called him, Free Meal Baptist. My parents divorced
• 38:05
Speaker 2: when I was five, and she married my dad when
• 38:09
Speaker 2: I was nine or so, and she was wonderful to me,
• 38:13
Speaker 2: and they had a daughter who I refer to on
• 38:15
Speaker 2: the show is my sister, technically my half sister. Um,
• 38:19
Speaker 2: but she was wonderful to me and my wife as well.
• 38:21
Speaker 2: So we are currently planning per her wishes, a graveside service, uh,
• 38:27
Speaker 2: in Logan County on Wednesday. So I'll do the show
• 38:30
Speaker 2: Wednesday morning, but then I'll be away from Metro news
• 38:32
Speaker 2: midday that day. Appreciate all the calls, the text. Uh,
• 38:35
Speaker 2: she suffered a lot with her various illnesses. She was
• 38:39
Speaker 2: a fantastic person and she certainly will be missed. Uh,
• 38:45
Speaker 2: Every candidate, again, I ask for every candidate, Al Saeed,
• 38:51
Speaker 2: pro or con, Tallarico, pro or con, how you answer
• 38:54
Speaker 2: those two things, tell me all I as a voter,
• 38:57
Speaker 2: as a citizen, and a Christian need to know about
• 39:00
Speaker 2: who you are and where you stand. Well, I mean,
• 39:03
Speaker 2: I appreciate the text, and I understand where you're coming from.
• 39:07
Speaker 2: I don't feel that that is appropriate to ask somebody
• 39:10
Speaker 2: who's running for county commission or somebody running for a
• 39:15
Speaker 2: mayor or whatever, because I don't know that they're going
• 39:18
Speaker 2: to have a whole lot of dealings with El-Sayed or Tallarica.
• 39:22
Speaker 2: But I do appreciate the text, as always. The text says,
• 39:29
Speaker 2: Board of Education owns Lately Field. Probably need to let
• 39:32
Speaker 2: them and the CVB know, as the CVB is heavily
• 39:36
Speaker 2: involved with state championships.
• 39:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, we had Mr.
• 39:38
Speaker 2: Arbogast on, who's also a member of the Kanawha County
• 39:40
Speaker 2: Board of Education a couple of weeks ago. And we'll
• 39:43
Speaker 2: have him on as we get a little bit closer
• 39:44
Speaker 2: to to the football championships, which will, of course, be
• 39:48
Speaker 2: coming up in December. Dave Allen Show on 580 Live,

• 40:03
  Speaker 2: there's going to be a caregiver's concert. That's the third
• 40:07
Speaker 2: time I've talked about that I've said concert. Conference concert.
• 40:11
Speaker 2: coming soon to Charleston. We'll get into that. Plus, Kanawha
• 40:13
Speaker 2: County Commission President Ben Salango and a current House member
• 40:17
Speaker 2: vying for re-election, Walter Hall, is going to be on
• 40:20
Speaker 2: tomorrow's show as well. Taking advantage of that one free
• 40:22
Speaker 2: interview that I give. Coming up today on Midday, we
• 40:26
Speaker 2: will focus on the death of the Logan County deputy
• 40:28
Speaker 2: killed in a horrific traffic accident Saturday afternoon. It was
• 40:32
Speaker 2: a collision with a coal truck. Mike Pushkin is going
• 40:36
Speaker 2: to come back on the show. in his run as,
• 40:38
Speaker 2: or in his role, I should say, as Democratic Party Chair.
• 40:41
Speaker 2: Talked to Josh Holstein, the Republican Party Chair, last week. So,
• 40:44
Speaker 2: in all fairness, we'll bring Mr. Pushkin back on to
• 40:47
Speaker 2: talk about the Democrats. Signed a thing as we get
• 40:49
Speaker 2: ready for the election, November the 3rd. Jeff will have
• 40:52
  Speaker 2: the news.
• 40:53
  Speaker 1: T.J.
• 40:53
Speaker 2: Meadows will stop by. And more Metro News Midday with

Speaker 2: is coming up later today at 12 noon. I'll tell
• 41:06
Speaker 2: you what we'll do.
• 41:06
  Speaker 6: We'll take a break.
• 41:07
Speaker 2: And a couple other things to get to in the
• 41:09
Speaker 2: news when we come back. We're back after this on

Speaker 2: Tex says, what's up with Christians constantly trying to shoehorn
• 44:02
Speaker 2: Christianity into government functions? Have you all read the Constitution?
• 44:07
Speaker 2: Either you can't read or you don't respect the rule
• 44:09
Speaker 2: of law. Keep religion out of politics. Tex says, I
• 44:16
Speaker 2: disagree with Pushkin. When has he ever worked with Republicans? Well,
• 44:20
Speaker 2: let me just say this. I don't want to get
• 44:22
Speaker 2: into specific details, but as other elected folks have said
• 44:26
Speaker 2: on the show before, The majority of things that come
• 44:29
Speaker 2: out of the Capitol, whether it's West Virginia's Capitol or Washington,
• 44:35
  Speaker 2: are bipartisan.
• 44:38
  Speaker 6: They pass.
• 44:39
Speaker 2: I mean, they don't always make headlines. I mean, have
• 44:43
Speaker 2: you ever really looked at how many bills get passed
• 44:46
Speaker 2: during a regular session? Some would say not enough. Some
• 44:48
Speaker 2: would say too many. But regardless, most of them don't
• 44:54
Speaker 2: garner the headlines because they're just not sexy. you know,
• 44:56
Speaker 2: they're not about data centers. They're not about, uh, you know,
• 45:00
Speaker 2: trans issues or, or anything like that. They're just, they're
• 45:03
Speaker 2: just not of interest to the average person. Doesn't mean
• 45:06
Speaker 2: that they're not important, but they're, they just don't grab
• 45:08
Speaker 2: the headlines. So I don't, I'm again, I'm not defending my,
• 45:11
Speaker 2: I'm just saying that, you know, a lot of, there's
• 45:14
Speaker 2: a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people
• 45:15
Speaker 2: don't know when people do actually work together. Do appreciate
• 45:18
  Speaker 2: the text though.
• 45:18
  Speaker 6: Nine at 53.
• 45:19
Speaker 2: Uh, let me see here. I want to mention this. Um,
• 45:23
Speaker 2: And we talked about a little bit with Commissioner Tennant
• 45:26
Speaker 2: a little bit earlier. If you are coming to Charleston,
• 45:29
Speaker 2: you had better let off the gas. Because we have
• 45:33
Speaker 2: a story posted about it at WVMetroNews.com from Jeff Jenkins.
• 45:37
Speaker 2: The State Division of Highways has lowered the speed limit
• 45:42
Speaker 2: on the interstates around Charleston. It goes from 60 to 50.
• 45:45
Speaker 2: And trust me, they are going to be out enforcing
• 45:48
Speaker 2: this with full force. So, I'd say if you're going
• 45:52
Speaker 2: to do 60-61, you're probably going to get a ticket.
• 45:55
Speaker 2: Just saying. Because they're serious about this. So, again, it
• 45:58
Speaker 2: has gone from 60 to 50. And, of course, there
• 46:01
Speaker 2: have been several bad wrecks. People lost their lives, especially
• 46:04
Speaker 2: the elevated parts around the 64-77 split, for example. Now, today,
• 46:09
Speaker 2: according to Jeff's story, WVMetroNews.com, they're supposed to start placing
• 46:13
Speaker 2: what they're calling high-friction surface treatments in certain parts of
• 46:19
Speaker 2: And could be some traffic impacts because of that. But again,
• 46:22
Speaker 2: I can't stress it on you enough. They are going
• 46:25
Speaker 2: to be out in full force to enforce them. Text Dave,
• 46:32
Speaker 2: I early voted Thursday in St.
• 46:34
  Speaker 6: Albans.
• 46:36
Speaker 2: No line, no wait. In and out in five minutes.
• 46:38
Speaker 2: There is no reason for anyone not to vote. That's
• 46:42
Speaker 2: pretty much, I mean, you know, as I said, we
• 46:44
Speaker 2: talked to Secretary of State Chris Warner on midday last week,
• 46:46
Speaker 2: and he said that the numbers, I think it was
• 46:50
Speaker 2: Thursday we had him on the show.
• 46:51
Speaker 6: That's when it was.
• 46:52
Speaker 1: I said Wednesday earlier. It was Thursday.
• 46:53
Speaker 2: It was the second day of early voting. And he
• 46:56
Speaker 2: had spent some time in Fayette County and Kanawha County,
• 46:58
Speaker 2: and he talked about And just talking to people that
• 47:01
Speaker 2: the numbers do seem to be higher than normal. I
• 47:03
Speaker 2: did see, as I mentioned earlier, a post from the
• 47:06
Speaker 2: county clerk in Mason County. Wonderful, wonderful lady. I had
• 47:10
Speaker 2: the pleasure of working with Diana Crumley when I worked
• 47:13
Speaker 2: at the Secretary of State's office. Very, very, very capable,
• 47:16
Speaker 2: very fine lady. And she had said that the numbers
• 47:19
Speaker 2: appear to be, of course, they've got some big races
• 47:22
Speaker 2: up there as well.
• 47:23
Speaker 1: So, yeah, you're right.
• 47:25
Speaker 8: Get out and vote.
• 47:26
Speaker 2: Get out and vote. You got the rest of the week,
• 47:29
Speaker 2: several locations here in Kanawha County, two in Putnam County.
• 47:32
Speaker 2: Every county's got at least one early voting location. Some
• 47:35
Speaker 2: have multiple ones like we have here in Kanawha County.
• 47:37
Speaker 2: Get out there and vote. And again, polls will be
• 47:40
Speaker 2: open nine to five or early voting nine to five
• 47:43
Speaker 2: on Saturday as well. Election day, 630 a.m. to 730 p.m.
• 47:48
Speaker 2: You can vote on election day if you prefer to
• 47:50
Speaker 2: do so. And after the election, after the polls have closed,
• 47:54
Speaker 2: we invite you to To tune us in here, WCHS
• 47:56
Speaker 2: at the Metro News Radio Network will have wall-to-wall coverage
• 47:59
Speaker 2: of the election. We've got folks in Morgantown. I will
• 48:02
Speaker 2: be here with Daniel Woods manning some of the local things.
• 48:06
Speaker 2: And we'll have at least one person in every county courthouse,
• 48:10
Speaker 2: all 55 counties around the state of West Virginia, to
• 48:12
Speaker 2: bring you the most accurate information available on air and online.
• 48:17
Speaker 6: So check us out if you want to know the
• 48:21
  Speaker 6: election results.

Speaker 2: new or used Ford or Ford service, check out Generations Ford.

• 48:33
Speaker 2: Ford just off the Hurricane exit of I-64 and shop GenerationsFord.com. Sorry, Dave,
• 48:38
Speaker 2: but the questions about supporting El Saeed and Tallarico are
• 48:41
Speaker 2: perfectly legitimate because it tells me as a voter if
• 48:45
Speaker 2: your core beliefs fall in line with theirs and are
• 48:48
Speaker 2: not pro-America. They are not Christian values. They are not capitalists.
• 48:52
Speaker 2: By the way, to another texter, separation of church and
• 48:55
Speaker 2: state is not in the Constitution. It says no establishment
• 48:58
Speaker 2: of religion. Again, and this is a frequent texter. We
• 49:03
Speaker 2: don't know names. We just see phone numbers when you
• 49:05
Speaker 2: text in, by the way. Frequent Textures Show, appreciate it.
• 49:09
Speaker 2: I'm just going to have to disagree with you on
• 49:12
Speaker 2: that because I don't see the relevance of it. I
• 49:16
Speaker 2: understand the point that you are making. It's kind of
• 49:20
Speaker 2: like when everybody was all in love with Donald Trump,
• 49:23
Speaker 2: which we still are here in West Virginia, but not
• 49:25
Speaker 2: the rest of the country. Apparently, I use the example
• 49:28
Speaker 2: before and being out and about with people running for office.
• 49:32
Speaker 2: You couldn't run. And I changed the county every time.
• 49:34
Speaker 2: So I don't offend everybody. You could not run for
• 49:37
Speaker 2: assessor in Wirt County without having somebody say, are you
• 49:40
Speaker 2: pro-Trump or are you anti-Trump? I mean, does it really matter?
• 49:45
Speaker 2: I mean, I do appreciate the text. We just have
• 49:48
Speaker 2: to agree to disagree. I got to tell you, this
• 49:50
Speaker 2: past Saturday afternoon, my wife and I went to the
• 49:55
Speaker 2: West Virginia Book Festival at the newly named Vandalia Health Center,
• 50:00
Speaker 2: formerly known as the Coliseum and Convention Center. uh, the
• 50:03
Speaker 2: signage is still not up yet. And again, people are
• 50:05
Speaker 2: still going to call it the civic center, but, uh, uh,
• 50:07
Speaker 2: we were there regardless. And I got to say hats
• 50:10
Speaker 2: off to the people that put it on because man,
• 50:13
Speaker 2: it was packed out. My wife likes to go for
• 50:16
Speaker 2: the used book sale. Uh, she, she's one of them readers,
• 50:20
Speaker 2: you know? And so, uh, I went there with her
• 50:24
Speaker 2: on Saturday afternoon. We were there two 33 o'clock, something
• 50:28
Speaker 2: like that. Uh, And my gosh, it was packed out.
• 50:33
Speaker 2: I mean, they definitely had the folks. And for anybody,
• 50:39
Speaker 2: big shout out to my friend Don Miller at Read
• 50:41
Speaker 2: Aloud West Virginia. Anybody that thinks that people aren't reading
• 50:45
Speaker 2: hardback copies of actual books should have been at the
• 50:49
Speaker 2: book festival, specifically the book sale on Saturday over at
• 50:54
Speaker 2: the artist formerly known as the Charleston Coliseum and Convention
• 50:56
Speaker 2: Center because it was packed out. Text Christians like that, Texter,
• 51:03
Speaker 2: are ones who want Christianity established as a state religion. So, yeah,
• 51:06
Speaker 2: keep your religion to yourself. Find Jesus on your own,
• 51:08
Speaker 2: like John Prine said. Texter, you get points from me
• 51:13
Speaker 2: for the John Prine reference. Just throwing it out there.
• 51:16
Speaker 1: I want to close with this.
• 51:17
Speaker 2: Did you happen to see the speech at one of
• 51:19
Speaker 2: the rallies that former President Barack Obama gave? Look, I
• 51:24
Speaker 2: don't care how you feel about Barack Obama. He was
• 51:28
Speaker 2: not my favorite president, mainly for his stance on coal.
• 51:31
Speaker 2: I think Obama was a decent human being. His politics
• 51:36
Speaker 2: differ from mine, but that's okay. The quote that he
• 51:39
Speaker 2: gave about President Trump and the White House, the quote is,
• 51:43
Speaker 2: he got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened
• 51:46
Speaker 2: up a cheesecake factory. I don't care how you are,
• 51:50
Speaker 2: how you feel, what your party is. That was funny
• 51:53
Speaker 2: right there. That was funny, so I'll give... Former President
• 51:56
Speaker 2: Obama credit for that. All right, got to go. Coming
• 51:59
Speaker 2: up on tomorrow's show, I'll give you more about this
• 52:00
Speaker 2: Caregivers concert. I said it again, coming to Charleston and more.
• 52:05
Speaker 2: See you later today on Midday Conference Day. Until then,
• 52:08
Speaker 2: have fun and love somebody.
• 52:20
Speaker 1: We're proud to live here too.
