- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. So today I have a question for
- 0:33you. Have you ever really paid
- 0:35attention to your language, the words you use, and really just
- 0:39kind of like, monitored what you were saying, how you were saying
- 0:42it, the inflection in which you were using it?
- 0:45Well, I thought it would be an interesting question to ask all
- 0:48of you because I pay attention to your language all the time.
- 0:53Like my, I should say, I pay attention, very close attention
- 0:57to my clients language all the time.
- 0:59And one of the things that's so fascinating to me about it is, I
- 1:04mean it's kind of a thing now. I'm kind of like focused on it
- 1:07wherever I go. I listen to how people talk.
- 1:10And this past weekend, we went out to dinner and there was a
- 1:13group of people sitting behind us and they were talking.
- 1:16And I have to tell you, I was listening to how these ladies
- 1:19were talking. And I was, like, flabbergasted
- 1:23that they had no clue about how they sounded to other people.
- 1:28And if they did, they really didn't care.
- 1:30And it just got me thinking about how everything in my world
- 1:34when I am working with clients is listening to how they talk
- 1:37about things, what they say, how they think comes out in the
- 1:40language. And I can.
- 1:42I can always find clues as to what's really going on in their
- 1:46head by their language patterns. And I do this for myself too,
- 1:51because I will hear myself say something and I'll say, oh wait,
- 1:54that came out. It sounded very, very impatient
- 1:58or snarky or whatever it might be because I can catch it in
- 2:04myself now and I'm not great at doing it all the time, but I am
- 2:08good at doing it. I would say 75% of the time I
- 2:11can catch myself. And then there are the 25% of
- 2:13the times that shows up that I have no clue what the heck I'm
- 2:16doing with it and I just it it just goes and then I have to
- 2:20deal with it. But doing an inventory for
- 2:23yourself is super powerful because you have the control
- 2:27over your language, obviously. And once you know you have the
- 2:31control over your language and you start paying attention,
- 2:34everything changes dramatically because you'll say, oh, that
- 2:37doesn't fit the identity I want. That doesn't sound like the
- 2:40person I choose to be. That sounds like somebody that I
- 2:43once was, but not anymore. So this little experiment of
- 2:48monitoring your language, really thinking about it and paying
- 2:52attention to it, it's not easy. Let me just say this, it's not
- 2:56easy. You actually have to think about
- 2:58it, catch yourself, Go into the day with the intent of I'm going
- 3:02to catch my language today. I'm going to see what I'm
- 3:05telling myself about everything around me.
- 3:07It's it's part of a great experiment about being mindful
- 3:10and becoming hyper aware as well.
- 3:12Because if you're hyper aware, you know where you're getting
- 3:14hung up. So you can help yourself and
- 3:17participate in your own rescue. Because ultimately everything
- 3:20comes down to being able to participate in your own rescue,
- 3:23not relying on everybody else to rescue you, but really
- 3:26participating in your own rescue.
- 3:28So I would say one of the most wonderful things that I know for
- 3:33sure for myself is that I have this ability.
- 3:36Once I know it, I can, I can change it.
- 3:39It's just I can't change what I don't know.
- 3:41So I assume that you're going to feel the same way about this,
- 3:46because I feel like once I know it, I have no excuse as to not
- 3:49change something, I just have to know it and then I can work on
- 3:53changing it. Will it be easy to change it?
- 3:55No. But at the same time, it'll be
- 3:58worth it. So I would suggest, you know you
- 4:02can use the app in your phone, your notes app in your phone.
- 4:05You can use your little voice recorder.
- 4:07You can just take good old pencil and paper and start
- 4:10writing down things that you catch yourself saying and look
- 4:13for the things that are repetitive.
- 4:15Because repetitive things make patterns.
- 4:18So the more you repeat something, the more you believe
- 4:20it, the more it becomes a pattern, whether it's true or
- 4:23not. And I can tell you, I have seen
- 4:26some very dysfunctional patterns and language that have come
- 4:31right out of my own house. When I was a kid, my mother's
- 4:34dysfunctional patterns of how she would say things.
- 4:36And I would say every time she someone walk into a room, she
- 4:40would look at them and she'd say what's wrong.
- 4:43And that pattern carried over, carried over.
- 4:46And I had to catch myself doing it and say I don't want to say
- 4:50that all the time. There's nothing wrong.
- 4:52Why am I focused on that? But it's language patterns.
- 4:55They really make a difference. So today, this week, the month,
- 5:01however long you want to do it, if you really want to shift your
- 5:04world, start paying attention to your language patterns.
- 5:07Look right away, see what shows up and figure it out.
- 5:11Because I promise you, you will learn an awful lot from it.
- 5:14All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:16will see you tomorrow. Bye.
