- 0:20Speaker 2: Hey Heather, talk about the ref go on.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I was actually playing golf well afternoon. Yeah, yeah, I
- 0:28Speaker 3: was just waiting.
- 0:29Speaker 2: For the return. I was worring for the return. About
- 0:31Speaker 2: in Perth this week? Are you coming over? Yeah? So
- 0:35Speaker 2: so yeah, you don't really want to talk about this then? No?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Not really, no, not really, Okay, you know we were
- 0:41Speaker 2: robbed since we've had the Bleedders Low Cup by the.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Way, what Australia New Zealand, I think you've I don't
- 0:48Speaker 3: think we've had it about twenty years now.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I don't know if you've been alive for it. Anyway, Look,
- 0:52Speaker 2: you'll get it too, and don't worry about it now. Jeez.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I'll tell you what.
- 0:56Speaker 2: However bad your day is, it's worse with Optus, isn't it.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'll tell you what.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Stephen Rue would be ruining the decision pardon the partner
- 1:04Speaker 3: taking on the job of the CEO of op this
- 1:06Speaker 3: because yet another triple zero outage on the weekend, and
- 1:10Speaker 3: it was for quite some time as well, from about
- 1:12Speaker 3: three o'clock on that Saturday or Sunday morning. It was
- 1:16Speaker 3: in the end three am Sunday morning till about midday
- 1:18Speaker 3: Sunday in the Dapdo area, So we're talking around Woollongong,
- 1:22Speaker 3: about an hour and a half south of Sydney. The
- 1:25Speaker 3: Optus network went down in regards to triple zero phone calls.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Nine affected phone calls, with that one person deciding when
- 1:32Speaker 3: they needed an ambulance to actually use a different phone
- 1:34Speaker 3: that was an Optus and they got connected straight through.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Police have done the welfare checks on the other eight.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Everybody else is okay, but this is just terrible. They
- 1:42Speaker 3: do not know how or why this one has happened,
- 1:44Speaker 3: but it makes you wonder there are severe problems aren't
- 1:47Speaker 3: they now with the entire network if this has happened
- 1:50Speaker 3: again within a week. Stephen ru Tomorrow Tuesday will be
- 1:53Speaker 3: meeting the Federal Communications Minister Annika Wells, who's returning from
- 1:57Speaker 3: her delegation being part of the United Nations gathering there
- 2:00Speaker 3: in New York. And you could just imagine how hostile
- 2:04Speaker 3: those conversations are going to be.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I mean, they must be losing customers at a ra
- 2:08Speaker 2: to not.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Say absolutely they would be, but they were when the
- 2:12Speaker 3: data hack, which is not that long ago, it's just
- 2:14Speaker 3: over a year ago. So look, the thing about Australia
- 2:17Speaker 3: is if you live outside of the metropolitan area of
- 2:20Speaker 3: one of our capital cities, chances are you're not a
- 2:23Speaker 3: customer of Optis or voteraphone anyway, you're with Telstra because
- 2:26Speaker 3: you've got that national network. But this is going to
- 2:28Speaker 3: cause significant damage to the customer relationship between the telco
- 2:33Speaker 3: and Australians. And look there's calls over in this country
- 2:36Speaker 3: as well that the license should be taken off Optus,
- 2:38Speaker 3: which is obviously on now by Singtel, the Singaporean back company,
- 2:41Speaker 3: and redistributed to somebody else. So I don't know that
- 2:43Speaker 3: the government will go that far, but I'll tell you
- 2:45Speaker 3: what some of the language from Prime Minister Albanzi and
- 2:47Speaker 3: Anika Well's or Communications Minister, they are not impressed.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I can imagine. Now, run me through what Clive Palmer's done.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Oh, he just loves, particularly going to war with where
- 2:58Speaker 3: I live in Western Australia, the WA government. So he
- 3:01Speaker 3: was effectively trying to quote bankrupt the state with a
- 3:05Speaker 3: claim that he made and legislation was rushed during the
- 3:09Speaker 3: COVID years in regards to some of the iron ore
- 3:12Speaker 3: royalties and the royalties that he had to pay to.
- 3:13Speaker 2: West in Australia.
- 3:15Speaker 3: The WA government claimed that this was going to again
- 3:18Speaker 3: bankrupt the state the tune of thirty billion dollars. He
- 3:21Speaker 3: didn't like it, so he took it on in all
- 3:23Speaker 3: the courts in Australia. It's been thrown out, but he's
- 3:26Speaker 3: not happy with that. He's going all the way to
- 3:27Speaker 3: a court in Switzerland to try and take on effectively
- 3:30Speaker 3: the Australian government. His argument is that because of what
- 3:33Speaker 3: happened through the COVID years, it affected his trade. But
- 3:36Speaker 3: because he's an Australian citizen, he's not entitled to even
- 3:39Speaker 3: basically take this on in the court.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So look, he just enjoys the theater. Let's be blunt header.
- 3:44Speaker 2: He enjoys the show.
- 3:47Speaker 3: He never liked the fact that he wasn't allowed into
- 3:49Speaker 3: a particularly during those COVID years to run his businesses.
- 3:52Speaker 2: So this is all, I believe, a bit of a charade.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But yeah, he's still trying to get thirty billion dollars
- 3:58Speaker 3: out of Western Australia.
- 3:59Speaker 2: A nice try Hey, do you believe that solar panels
- 4:02Speaker 2: can add twenty three thousand dollars to the value of
- 4:04Speaker 2: your house?
- 4:05Speaker 3: Oh? See, this is what I find fascinating. Now much
- 4:08Speaker 3: sun in New Zealand.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But he is not really wrong with you.
- 4:13Speaker 3: You might have the blenderslow cuts, but do you get
- 4:16Speaker 3: any sunshine?
- 4:16Speaker 2: I don't know what I'd rather, but I thought this was.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Really interesting because we just had all of this. You know,
- 4:22Speaker 3: it comes out all the time, right, but the annual
- 4:24Speaker 3: what's everybody looking up? What was everybody searching for when
- 4:26Speaker 3: they're trying to buy a home and it's down to
- 4:28Speaker 3: granny flats and pulls?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Now again, do you have pools and us? You're a pain? Sorry, yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 2: that I can't help myself today.
- 4:38Speaker 3: But I find this interesting, and I it's not something
- 4:42Speaker 3: that we really considered that you would look at that.
- 4:44Speaker 3: But when you have a federal government policy at the
- 4:46Speaker 3: moment which is all about giving your rebates for putting
- 4:48Speaker 3: soul and batteries in your home, you can probably understand
- 4:51Speaker 3: where this sort of research comes out. But twenty three
- 4:54Speaker 3: thousand dollars extra to your home having a few panels
- 4:56Speaker 3: on the roof. I went to Google Earth to just
- 4:59Speaker 3: have a look in my street, I don't have panels,
- 5:01Speaker 3: but I think I'm in the minority. Like there's about
- 5:03Speaker 3: twelve houses in my street and there's only two or
- 5:05Speaker 3: three of us that don't have panels.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So look, I might be missing out on something.
- 5:08Speaker 3: But it's going to cost you more than twenty three
- 5:10Speaker 3: thousand dollars to install these things, So I don't know
- 5:13Speaker 3: if it adds twenty three thousand dollars. I just think
- 5:14Speaker 3: it's the clean energy mob just trying to get us
- 5:17Speaker 3: to all sign up. And by the way, and as
- 5:19Speaker 3: for all governments around the world, it's your job to
- 5:21Speaker 3: be able to provide the infrastructure to keep the lights on,
- 5:24Speaker 3: not down to homeowners like turn it up. They're just
- 5:27Speaker 3: you know, shrugging their shoulders and saying it's back on
- 5:29Speaker 3: us to do it.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Oh, I love you, Ollie.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Thanks very much. Olive It Peters and six PR Perth
