- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me covering One Piece episodes
- 0:13three, sixty six, sixty seven, and sixty eight. You're Going Down
- 0:19Absalom, Nami's lightning attack of friendship, knock him Down, Special Attacks,
- 0:25straw Hat Docking, and the Silent assault the mysterious visitor Tyrant Kuma. In
- 0:35these episodes, I knew that Nami was going to wake up and fight Absalom,
- 0:40but everything was better than I ever hoped, and I loved it so
- 0:44much. And I'm going to cosplay Lola. I have to welcome to spoil
- 0:51Me. Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very
- 1:14much to the One Piece crew for commissioning this episode. What's up, guys?
- 1:19So these three episodes were delightful. This is one of those things that
- 1:26it's like I hesitate to even admit, you know how that is. But
- 1:30sometimes, and I'm sure you guys will totally understand what I mean, when
- 1:34I'm watching the show, I can find my attentions starting to wander, especially
- 1:38when it gets really repetitive or there's long drawn out pauses of people staring.
- 1:42And this was a trio of episodes that had my focus the whole time with
- 1:48no effort. I never had to be like pay attention. It was just
- 1:52very fun to watch from beginning to end, and I had no issues with
- 1:57that at all. So the beginning of You're Going Down Absalom, of course
- 2:05we have on Funimation, you know, the screen cap of Nami firing up
- 2:10that like lightning Wand I always forget what this thing is called because it does
- 2:15not feel natural to me if I remember, but I so, you know,
- 2:23this is a thing that can happen when you've got screen caps and thumbnails
- 2:28and stuff, is that you get a little bit of a spoiler. But
- 2:31I figured probably Nami was gonna wake up at one point. I'm just really
- 2:37glad that she got to full on fight him, mostly herself, other than
- 2:40Lola, but Lola doesn't count. What I thought it was going to be
- 2:45was, you know, she wakes up and begins to fight, and something
- 2:49happens and then she like ultimately winds up getting rescued. And it wasn't.
- 2:53She just got to settle this whole thing and it was great and I was
- 2:57so happy. Like granted, the reason she was actually able to win is
- 3:00because of Absalom had gone up against Sanji already, so he was super tired.
- 3:05So you know, one could say that this wasn't entirely her victory,
- 3:08but I don't care. It's fine, this is what I wanted, Bes
- 3:14says climb attacked. That's right. Yeah, and that's not like it's not
- 3:19a bad name, but it just doesn't I don't remember, it doesn't stick
- 3:23in my mind. So yeah, this whole like episode. We start off,
- 3:31first of all, checking back in with Mistress Pirona, and I have
- 3:37to say I absolutely love the energy of what's going on with Pirona in this
- 3:46episode, because what it is is her waking up from being like knocked out,
- 3:53having had really bad nightmares about cockroaches and a giant oosop and looking around
- 4:02and then going fuck this and heading to the coast with all of the loot
- 4:12she can carry or her underlings can carry, and getting ready to steal a
- 4:15ship and get the fuck up on out of here. And I've got to
- 4:20say, I would like more villain characters to have this kind of energy.
- 4:28This isn't like, you know, she's not a main villain, so she
- 4:31doesn't entirely count. But we have really only had batties that want to stay
- 4:39in fight. They always are like itching for a fight, really sure they're
- 4:43gonna win. And the idea of her having gone up against somebody she's not
- 4:49killed, but she's knocked out enough that she's like, you know what,
- 4:56I'm good. Actually I'm a go I love this for her, like,
- 5:01I have to admit, even though I don't want her to steal the sunny,
- 5:05obviously, I was sort of rooting for her to just get away because
- 5:10she's straight up like once our big mysterious visitor arrives, is straight up going,
- 5:17I just don't want to do this anymore. This sucks, and I
- 5:23stand a quitter. Okay, this is something that like you can go too
- 5:29far in the other direction, granted, but there's a real culture in the
- 5:33United States of like never ever quit. You don't give up, and frankly,
- 5:39it's like toxic after a point. Sure you should persevere and not just
- 5:46drop everything at the first sign of obstacles or resistance or whatever, but there
- 5:54does come a point where maybe you should reconsider what you're doing. If you
- 6:00just continuously run up against walls over and over again, you know, and
- 6:06sure, there's like probably a lot of examples one could point to of people
- 6:12who, if they had listened to me, would never have had their big
- 6:15break and become famous or successful or whatever. But for every one of those
- 6:19stories, you've got like fifty other people who kept pushing it even when they
- 6:24should have given up and lost everything. And we don't hear about those stories
- 6:28so much because nobody wants to hear about those stories. We want to hear
- 6:31the success stories. But the truth is, there are a lot of people
- 6:35who kept pushing for something that wasn't right for them or wasn't going to work
- 6:42out, and they every time somebody tried to be like, hey, maybe
- 6:46you should like try something else, back off on this thing and do a
- 6:48different thing, it was like, oh, well, you're a hater,
- 6:51you know that kind of response. And honestly, I really think that one
- 6:59of the most valuable lessons that my mom taught me. And I'll grant you
- 7:02my mom's a little bit too much of a quitter, but nevertheless she told
- 7:06me that, like, sometimes quitting is the healthy thing to do. There
- 7:13are all kinds of instances where if you have if you're in like a bad
- 7:16situation, you need to bail and do what's healthy for yourself. And she
- 7:23says something when she's asked about where she'd go about, like singing a cursed
- 7:27song or something. It's delightful, like she's just got a real vision for
- 7:32herself. And as much as I'm not fully in approval of creating zombified animals,
- 7:39I will say that I appreciate that her goals don't have anything to do
- 7:44with, say, world domination or enslaving actual human beings or whatever. You
- 7:51know. Now, I am assuming that, like all of her zombie animals
- 7:58are created by this dealing of shadows of people. So again, don't approve,
- 8:07but I don't know. Maybe she could figure some other way out,
- 8:09maybe she could find an alternative to this method. So all this to say,
- 8:16her whole thing in these three episodes I was really delighted with, and
- 8:18I especially enjoyed finding out that she's the one who stole all of the treasure,
- 8:24because Nami manages to get her way out of the whole Absalom situation and
- 8:31then heads to where she believes the treasure is being kept, only to find
- 8:35out it's gone, and she is so pissed. And there's something about the
- 8:43fact that it's Pirona who stole it. I don't know, there's something like
- 8:48the two of them I feel like could be kind of friends, you know
- 8:52what I'm saying. I just feel like if they had met in a different
- 9:01it would have been possible for them to connect. Because Wollami doesn't really care
- 9:07that much about like the cuteness factor. I don't feel like she'd hold it
- 9:11against Pirona that she cares about that, and they both like nice things.
- 9:20So anyway, I just wanted to touch on that because she's the one that
- 9:24like sort of opens this section. And then we jump back to the moment
- 9:30where Absalam is about to try and kiss Nami and she wakes up just as
- 9:35he is about to kiss her. I appreciate her being like, those aren't
- 9:39even human lips, which I think I mentioned last time, but I really
- 9:46failed to truly like think through what it would be like for those to come
- 9:50at your face. Can you imagine, guys, like just real quick,
- 9:56sit back and imagine being unconscious and then waking up to that weird muzzle a
- 10:03few inches from your face. No, thank you, I'm good. So
- 10:11she is in the middle of attempting to defend herself here and he has got
- 10:16her in a grip and it's really feeling like, all things considered, I
- 10:24don't know how she's getting out of this. And then all of a sudden,
- 10:28I especially love You'll be my graveyard queen. Doesn't that sound wonderful?
- 10:35And she says, I don't even know what that means. I appreciate her
- 10:39saying that because I also was kind of like, graveyard queen, what's that?
- 10:45What exactly does that entail? And it turns out that what it entails
- 10:48is just basically wandering around a graveyard and being in charge of it, which
- 10:54literally who cares. But this moment is when Lola jumps in, and it's
- 11:01a great bit because, you guys, I was so concerned that Lola was
- 11:07genuinely turning against Nami. Here. You know, she's got this like real
- 11:13rage on her face and is saying things like you told me that you wanted
- 11:16nothing to do with him and that we'd be such a great couple. And
- 11:20then I turn around for one second and when I look back, you're marrying
- 11:24him. It was legit. I was genuinely like, oh shit, you
- 11:30know. And then it turns out that Lola is just trying to help Nami
- 11:37out and is pretending to be angry at her, and we also find out
- 11:43a little bit later that she was not taken in for one moment by the
- 11:50oh, I'm actually a man bit that Nami was doing, and she says
- 11:54something like, it was pretty obvious that you weren't a guy, which,
- 11:58like, you know, Jenner Norm's aside. I just appreciated that the lie
- 12:03didn't actually work on her, and I liked the fact that Nami felt the
- 12:09need to tell her the truth because I sort of wondered since it looked like
- 12:13they were probably from this moment never gonna see each other again. I just
- 12:18kind of thought maybe Nami would like keep it to herself and not feel like
- 12:22she has to be straightforward about it, because I wouldn't blame her too much
- 12:26if she just decided to roll without lie. And yet she tells her the
- 12:33truth and is like, hey, look, I when I met you,
- 12:37I was like afraid of you, so I said something that I thought would
- 12:41get you to leave me alone. I love that, Nami, Thank you.
- 12:46Like the kind of honesty is it's even more important when it's unnecessary in
- 12:50some ways. You know, I'm sorry you guys. If you can hear
- 12:54Sam, he's freaking out because I put him in his crate, which he
- 12:58does not like. And I know that there's all kinds of training methods to
- 13:01get dogs to like their crates, and I have tried them all and it
- 13:05has not worked. So we gotta do what we gotta do. He makes
- 13:11these sounds that really truly break my heart. Though I am not going to
- 13:13lie to you. I act all cavalier about it, but I am crying
- 13:18inside. So okay, this this fight with Absalom. First we've got the
- 13:26Lola fight in him, just yelling at her to like back off, and
- 13:30then he hits Lola, and really hits her like. She goes down in
- 13:37such a way that I actually thought she might be dead. And I was
- 13:43really concerned because I had grown to really like her so much, and if
- 13:48this asshole killed her, I don't I wouldn't have gotten over it. So
- 13:52thankfully she's still alive. But I was just the way that he treats her.
- 13:58Oh, I hate him so much. So when Nami sees him,
- 14:03sees Lola go down, this lights the fire in her. She had been
- 14:09about to get away and maybe if she hadn't stopped, she would have she
- 14:13maybe could have gotten out of this room and would have been able to just
- 14:20like move on and left Lola there, but instead she's like, you know
- 14:26what, fuck this guy, and she turns around and decides to engage with
- 14:31him again. Now I'm in a mention. When he takes Lola out,
- 14:35he is sweating and shaking, like, it's very clear he's not doing super
- 14:39well, So the fact that she manages to completely level him winds up being
- 14:46like less surprising when you take that into consideration. But yeah, when she
- 14:52turns around, he initially thinks that, like, she's decided to marry him
- 14:56after all. This is the conclusion he's coming to. She's standing there with
- 15:01like a weapon in her hand and a frown on her face and a hard
- 15:05stare. And this guy is like, oh good, I'm so glad that
- 15:11you've come to your senses and that you will have You're going to marry me
- 15:13after all? And Nami is like, yeah about that, and she says,
- 15:20how dare you? I love it? I love this whole bit.
- 15:26And she goes in and electrocutes him, and she says, I know this
- 15:31isn't enough to beat you, but it'll be damned if I don't try.
- 15:35And then the man just falls fucking over and she's standing there like wait what,
- 15:45And I think it's the priest, the weird zombie priest, who's like,
- 15:48oh, he had his ass pretty well kicked by that other guy,
- 15:52so I guess this isn't too surprising. But in his like fantasies, it's
- 15:58such a weird bit he falls down and then we get this like drawn out
- 16:04Absalom is imagining the wedding to a very excited and happy Nami who's looking forward
- 16:15to getting married. And I was thinking that he was going to fantasize about
- 16:21like the successful wedding, But even in his little dream, after getting knocked
- 16:27unconscious, he only gets to the part where he has to kiss her and
- 16:32then she zaps him, even in the dream, So that was it was
- 16:40a weird thing to add to have us like see this whole thing to begin
- 16:42with, because it's not like he was unconscious when she nailed him with the
- 16:49climb attacked. He was wide awake. So they're like kind of red conning
- 16:56within the moment that he was unconscious and interpret did that hit as the kiss
- 17:00or something. It's just a it's a weird thing. I didn't really get.
- 17:04They don't really do this a lot, you know, like Pirona being
- 17:07inside her dream where she's being attacked by us up and everything. All of
- 17:11that was already kind of the first time I think that we've ever been inside
- 17:17the weird fantasy of a villain. But at least that made kind of sense
- 17:22because those were she was dreaming that she was still in the clutches of the
- 17:27thing that had basically caused her to pass out to begin with. And this
- 17:33it's like, we're doing it again so soon after the other one when we've
- 17:38never done it before that I recall and it's the fantasy starts before this thing
- 17:45has happened to him. It's just a weird setup for it. But anyway,
- 17:52Nami goes over talks to Lola, and then Lola has this moment of
- 17:56oh, I see him, and it turned out that he is totally helpless
- 18:03right now. So I am going to take advantage of the situation. Now,
- 18:07guys, you all know how this is. And I'm just gonna say
- 18:11this for those of you who are not super familiar with Unspoiled and don't know
- 18:15my politics and everything, I don't want to hear. Oh, it wasn't
- 18:21cool. When he was trying to forcibly marry Nami, But it's so hilarious
- 18:25when Lola is trying to forcibly marry him. Oh, it wasn't cool when
- 18:30he was trying to sexually assault Nami, but when Lola is trying to sexually
- 18:33assault him, it's hilarious. First of all, it's just so not the
- 18:40same that I don't even know where to start, because it's just not One
- 18:45of them is a genuine thing that happens to women being like harassed and stalked
- 18:49by men who are super gross and attempt to do things against their will,
- 18:53and the other is a crazy zombie creature that that is just like outside of
- 19:00any real scenario. But also it is just funny. I'm gonna be real
- 19:11with you. It's fucked up. I don't love it. Were I telling
- 19:17the story, I would handle this differently. And I will admit that I
- 19:22had some qualms about the moment where she's apparently like tossing him around the room
- 19:27and saying, will finish the destruction that or started and break the building with
- 19:34our love, because the suggestion there is that basically she's like raping him so
- 19:41hard the building is going to fall down, which is awful. It's awful
- 19:45that said I hate him, He's terrible, and her just deciding to dish
- 19:55out some of what he was prepared to dish out doesn't bother me. It
- 19:59just fails to really get me in any sense. So for me, I
- 20:07appreciated this. And I will also mention that when Lola tries to tell him
- 20:15that Nami is a man, he has that the memory of like watching Nami
- 20:21in the shower, and then we have to go through all of that again.
- 20:25And so the fact that we get to see him like perving on her
- 20:27and being super gross sort of added an extra layer of insulation between my moral
- 20:37center and what happens to him. Does that make sense? So anyway,
- 20:45so this whole bit is just great. And like I said, I really
- 20:49really want to like figure out a Lola cause play. I don't know how
- 20:52it would work, and I am a perfectionist, so I think I would
- 20:56make it pretty complicated because I really want to get that face right. Her
- 20:59face is easy. That would take some real work, but I feel like
- 21:03that's a pretty fucking good cosplay. So Okay, we're gonna jump back to
- 21:10Lufy really briefly. There is not a lot of him in these three episodes.
- 21:14We've just got him running around in the woods and he thinks that he
- 21:18is chasing what is it. He calls him a fat onion, I think
- 21:22is what he says, which is so good. But he thinks that he's
- 21:26chasing Maria, and eventually, at the very very very end of the third
- 21:33episode, realizes that he has just been chasing Maria's shadow and he is really
- 21:40pissed off. So honestly, I don't feel like I need to go that
- 21:44much more into what's going on there, because it's a lot of him running
- 21:47around and chasing this shadow. And there's just one little bit where two dudes
- 21:53who I think they were guys who got their shadows stolen, are watching as
- 21:59Lufy like disappear into the woods and they're wondering what the hell he's doing because
- 22:03he said he was going to the castle to fight Maria, and now he's
- 22:06just out here in the woods and it's there in the middle of like wondering
- 22:08about it. They turn around and there's Maria, and Maria says something about
- 22:15how like, I can't believe you even thought he would win against me.
- 22:19Maybe you're gonna have to kick my ass instead, maybe you could give it
- 22:23a try. And I appreciate every time the camera sort of pulls back and
- 22:32allows us to see how fucking huge hunormous Maria is. Because this man is
- 22:41these guys come up to like his crotch. It's hard to say because he's
- 22:49got a weird body, so I'm not totally you know, but they are
- 22:55extremely small in comparison to him, and he is fully aware that these guys
- 23:00are in league with Lufy and are just is just like, oh, you
- 23:04thought he was going to save you. Well, I'm really sorry, but
- 23:07you're gonna have to watch your precious little savior get pounded into the dirt.
- 23:15That is most of what's going on with Lufy here. So then we're gonna
- 23:19go to Oars. There's a point, you guys, where Oars is just
- 23:26looking for anybody because they're all sort of hiding, and he's peering through the
- 23:33window of the castle and just decides to like poke his hole through the wall
- 23:38or poke his finger through the wall. It's not even like he's attempting to
- 23:41really like get in because he can't see anybody. He's not really trying to
- 23:47reach anything. The vibe that I get from it is almost like the after
- 23:53what's it called when somebody is really sort of absent mindedly dragging their finger through
- 24:02like the icing on a cake or something. You know, it's it's not
- 24:07even like there's no method to it. He's just doing this because he's just
- 24:12fidgeting, and because he's so hunormous. I'm going to keep using that word.
- 24:18This fidgeting is incredibly destructive. And I just couldn't help thinking about how
- 24:26it would feel for me to be sitting in a room and see like a
- 24:30finger that size just come crunching through the wall. That is so scary.
- 24:36So we go back to like the rest of the straw hats who have gathered
- 24:40up and are trying to figure out what they're going to do about Oars,
- 24:42And there's a kind of funny bit here where they're all trying to remember what
- 24:47his name is. I think that it's a chopper that suggests his name was
- 24:52Hughes. Sanji says Roars, which actually isn't a bad name all things considered,
- 25:02And we get a really weird as they're discussing this. We get some
- 25:10weird close ups on our friends, and like, I really want to know.
- 25:18I'm really curious how these animators decide what feature they're going to zoom in
- 25:26on for any given character, because you know, we start this off and
- 25:32we just see, like with a regular background, the feet of each of
- 25:37them walking by, like from the hips down. Then we kind of get
- 25:41a whited out background, and then we go to Sanji first and we see
- 25:48shoulders to eyebrows and signature cigarette smoking sticking out of his mouth. We go
- 25:56to Robin and we're zeroed in on her garters as she's walking with the edge
- 26:04of her hemline and the fishnet stockings. Then we go to Zoro and he
- 26:12is tying a bandana around his head and so we're zeroed in on the knot
- 26:18as he ties it at the back. We go to Chopper and it's just
- 26:23his eyes and a shoulder and mostly his hat and even oos up we get
- 26:37from basically the bridge of the nose up really dramatic hat goggles that like dark
- 26:42shadow over his eyes and it kind of makes him look like a badass.
- 26:49What we get for Frankie, though, is just his crotch. We are
- 26:57just completely year rowed in on Frankie's bikini briefs and like pretty close up,
- 27:07guys, we're the bikini briefs are really high on the screen, so we've
- 27:14got a lot of thigh happening actually, and he is like right up in
- 27:19our faces with it. What for what reason? Come on? Now?
- 27:29Look? I get I get that him being in these in this like weird
- 27:36bathing suit thing is part of his signature. Look, I am one hundred
- 27:41percent behind it. That's fine, But it's not the only part of his
- 27:48look that's really striking. His hair, I would argue, is even more
- 27:52memorable, and his weird nose and even his eyes are pretty intense. And
- 28:00you know, not for nothing. But despite the fact that Frankie is a
- 28:04cyborg, his legs are not impressive. This is not a man who really
- 28:10bothers with leg day. He is an upper body strength type of guy.
- 28:15So to me, the choice to zero in on the briefs at the expense
- 28:21of all of the other things about him that are a lot more noteworthy,
- 28:26in my opinion, is bizarre. But I will say that I do kind
- 28:33of appreciate at least that he gets a cross shot, because that at least
- 28:40makes one male character who got that kind of shot other than Robin, because
- 28:45everybody else we're on their faces mostly, you know, except for Zoro,
- 28:49but still it's his head. It's just the back of his head as he's
- 28:52tying that. Not so if they had zeroed in on Frankie's head, probably
- 29:00be a little bit salty over the fact that apparently Robin's face is of no
- 29:03consequence and all we need to know is of how short her skirt is.
- 29:08I just think the choice for Frankie seemed odd, and I'm also one percent
- 29:17behind showing Robin's face, Like her, why are we doing her skirt?
- 29:22Why are we even doing that? That's not a thing that's it's not like
- 29:25a part of her weaponry, it's not a type of part of her personality
- 29:30or anything like that. So anyway, it was it just struck me because
- 29:34like this sort of really slow walk while they're trying to remember ors his name,
- 29:41it's like a pretty striking moment, and the whited out background as we
- 29:45zero in on each of them. They do things like this a lot in
- 29:49the show, but this felt kind of set apart for me. It was
- 29:52a much more high impact version than some we've seen, so I really wanted
- 29:57to mention it. Um okay. So this is when we have Nami going
- 30:04to find the the treasure and finds that the place has been completely cleaned out.
- 30:14We jump back over to Oars, who is really excited to get into
- 30:18this fight, and everybody is just standing waiting for him. And there's been
- 30:23a kind of consensus with the whole straw Hat crew that like, we played
- 30:30around with him and it's time for us to get fucking serious about it.
- 30:37And Zoro says something about how he's sick of being thrown around, how about
- 30:41we throw him around for a change, to which I think almost everybody except
- 30:47us Up is like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm on board.
- 30:49Us Up is the one who's like, how guys, he's fucking huge?
- 30:56What are you? How do we do that? And they're thinking about how
- 31:02they're going to approach this, and Frankie says, I've got a ton of
- 31:04plans. One of them has got to work. So we get then this
- 31:12bit here, you guys, this was oh man, this really this really
- 31:18got me. So first Mophy attacks them with gum gum giant butt stomp.
- 31:32I fell out laughing. He just basically cannonballs down. They all think that
- 31:37they know what his moves are gonna be and he just pulls out something that
- 31:41is brand fucking new, and after all of this sort of like, oh,
- 31:47we gotta figure out how we're going to approach this. We're not playing
- 31:48anymore, he really does a bit of a number on them yet again,
- 31:55and finally Frankie is like, all right, guys, heads up, I'm
- 31:59going to do something new. Tactic fifteen. Everybody grab onto leg arm whatever.
- 32:09I thought it was interesting them. When he says tactic fifteen, Chopper
- 32:14says it's still being tested, so he is aware of it, and I
- 32:20guess they're just practicing it on the ship. But anyway, what we get
- 32:25is such an anime movement moment of Frankie connecting docking with each of our friends.
- 32:37Right, So he has Zoro and Sanji each attached docked against his leg,
- 32:45which when they say doc, all it means is that his foot is
- 32:50on one of their shoulders, and he's holding Usop in one hand and Chopper
- 32:58is over his head and I'm watching this, zeroing in on all of our
- 33:02moment or all of our friends, and I'm looking like waiting for Robin,
- 33:07and I was thinking as they were doing it, this doesn't feel like something
- 33:14Robin would be excited about. And there's a bit where Chopper points out we're
- 33:23incomplete Robin hasn't dalked with us, and guys, this just slayed me.
- 33:35I loved this so much. They're like, Robin, come on, you've
- 33:39got to join in, You've got to talk with us, and Robin is
- 33:45just like, yeah, I'm not doing that. They're like, Robin,
- 33:53we need you. No, I'm not embarrassing myself like that. Oh my
- 34:06god, you guys, she says, as human beings, you should be
- 34:13ashamed. Never ask me to dock with you again. And even Oars is
- 34:22watching, going why won't she do it, which is what gives us up
- 34:29the idea. A little bit later, he's talking to all of them and
- 34:32he's like, you know, I noticed that even though this meant that we
- 34:37couldn't fight ors the same way, he wasn't glad. He wanted to see
- 34:43the robot, and so that points to the fact that there is still a
- 34:49real loofy like personality in there. Actually. So yeah, this is when
- 34:53Oars is like, do it, you jerks, do the docking, and
- 34:58he like punches all of them and sends them all flying again, and Zoro
- 35:05sends, I've never been so relieved to be punched before. That really was
- 35:10so embarrassing. Oh god, I love this so much. I love that
- 35:20Robin is just going nah man like all that went. Later on, Frankie
- 35:28tries this method again and it really is as nothing as it looks like.
- 35:34I was thinking that there was going to be some sort of mechanical aspect that
- 35:39Frankie had invented that would connect them all and turn them into like a proper
- 35:45weapon, but it turns out no, he's basically just like, doing this
- 35:50will make us big, and because we're bigger, it'll be easier to fight
- 35:55him. And it's not really true, like they're still so small in comparison
- 36:00to oars that they're like standing on his forehead and they don't even reach his
- 36:04hairline entirely, you know, and they when they start kicking him, it
- 36:09does nothing. It's just like a red I mean, yeah, it's not
- 36:14impressive, it's not great. So that whole bit was pretty funny, and
- 36:20I just love Robin standing there being like, oh babe, no, absolutely
- 36:27not. In the meantime, as all of this is happening, we find
- 36:32as some key infoe about Brooke. He got injured pretty badly, so everybody
- 36:38else is going to go deal with oars, and Brooke is going to attempt
- 36:42to find a way to pull himself back together. And he's in the kitchen
- 36:47and finds a bottle of milk and is super excited because it is only like
- 36:53a couple of days expired, so it's still probably fine. And I will
- 37:00confess to some shivers of disgust when he says something about how he'll drink down
- 37:07all the chewy chunks on behalf of everyone. He says something like horrible like
- 37:09that. I was like, oh, sir, can you please not?
- 37:15And he drinks it and starts to glow. The calcium's rejuvenating all of my
- 37:21internal organs, which is odd since I don't actually have internal organs, and
- 37:28then begins to laugh. Camera pulls out and he yells, I am refreshed.
- 37:36Now, I don't think what I just said really does justice to the
- 37:44way he says I am refreshed, because friends, he shrieks, I am
- 37:53refreshed like it's a battle cry. It is really something voice after doing this
- 38:00must have had so much fun, because it is, I mean, the
- 38:07performance on this particular scene is over the top, and I'm not upset.
- 38:12I liked it. It was great. So after he says I am refreshed,
- 38:19he then like kind of cowers for a moment and is like, oh,
- 38:22it's too much, but then reminds himself, now I have an important
- 38:29job. I need to find what I actually came here for. And I
- 38:34was sort of wondering if he drank that milk. If you know, we
- 38:37have some cracks across his face, like you know, his skull breaking and
- 38:42stuff. I was thinking that maybe we would see those reseal that does not
- 38:45happen, and I don't know if that's going to happen eventually, but he
- 38:50seems to look pretty much the same. It's just meant to be an internal
- 38:53change, I guess. And he goes into to the pantry and finds this
- 39:02giant bag of salt, and I do appreciate him asking, you've got to
- 39:08wonder why they even keep this stuff, which I have to assume it's just
- 39:14for like the human people's right. But I maintained that being on like a
- 39:21boat surrounded by saltwater probably not an awesome idea anyway. So yeah, he's
- 39:28got that sack of salt that was the size of like couple of Deffel bags.
- 39:34I think so that was definitely enough that if they poured all of it
- 39:37down Oars his throat, I think that would have to work. So anyway,
- 39:45we've got Zoro asking Robin for help with a like submissive hold on Oars,
- 39:54while Zoro comes flying forward to get him with that like basically huge nunchuck
- 40:05made out of a pillar. Speaking of pillar, we then get really gross
- 40:15bit from Robin again. I know that it's kind of got to be gross.
- 40:22Anything that Robin can do is going. They're all like every formation is
- 40:30flesh colored, and everything is made of hands almost always like sometimes it's not,
- 40:37but mostly it is. So by default it's all creepy like it there's
- 40:44no way around it. But this one, I don't know what it was.
- 40:47This one really got me, guys. This one was super creepy.
- 40:52She calls it big tree and makes this huge like it almost looks like a
- 41:00hand at first, but it comes down almost like a snake around him and
- 41:05grabs one of his legs and arms and sort of pulls them both up in
- 41:10such a way that he can't keep his balance, and as he is stuck
- 41:17in this position, Frankie builds a stairway in the moment to the top of
- 41:25Oars. I mean, you guys, this whole bit with that Frankie can
- 41:30just like build anything within them. I truly love this bit. I am
- 41:35very much looking forward to seeing this played out in other ways. And him
- 41:39and Chopper both punch Oars with what they call the frapper Gong, which is
- 41:47a truly impenetrable name, Like, I don't know what that is, but
- 41:54that's what they both said, and I see it in the subtitles. So
- 41:59this leads to Oars going down for the moment, and we have a bit
- 42:02of a POV from the other zombies on the island who are seeing Oars his
- 42:08feet in the air and just sort of like, does this mean that he
- 42:13got taken out by somebody and another zombie being like, of course he fucking
- 42:19didn't. He's enormous, as we all know. He like this has got
- 42:23to be part of how he's fighting, and they're like, yeah, but
- 42:27he's fienda really been there for like quite a while. And as much as
- 42:31they are very happy with the fact that they get him taken down, he
- 42:36gets back up again and they have to work to get him down yet again.
- 42:42So I'm gonna jump back over to Nami real quick, because she is
- 42:47grilling these two little squirrel chipmunk guys asking for information. They are coming at
- 42:53her with like, you know, cleavers and stuff, but she just electrocutes
- 42:59him mid air and you see their tiny little like skeletons, and one of
- 43:04them says, we said way too much like it comes when they When we
- 43:08come back to them, they're laying on the ground gently smoking, and it's
- 43:14clear that she had just finished questioning them and has headed off down the hall,
- 43:19and both of them know that they kind of fucked up because not only
- 43:23did they give her information about how Pirona took everything, they told her that
- 43:29Perona is stealing the sunny and apparently also told her that there's like a short
- 43:37cut to getting there that if she didn't have it otherwise she probably wouldn't have
- 43:43been able to make it in time. But yeah, so Nami takes off
- 43:47and she is heading over there. I love when she's crossing the bridge and
- 43:52she's like, this bridge is weird. It's really well made, but it
- 43:54doesn't go with anything else. And as she looks over Oars topples, and
- 44:02she just tells herself that is not my problem right now, and she keeps
- 44:07going. And I admire that that's good priorities keeping, you know, like
- 44:12honestly, when it comes down to it, even if they beat Oars,
- 44:15if they let her Pirona sail off with their ship, what good is it?
- 44:21Like somebody needs to be on the keeping of the ship, you know,
- 44:25So this is this works for me. So Oars gets real pissed about
- 44:32having been knocked down and is just like, all right, screw all of
- 44:37you, guys, I'm gonna I'm gonna get up and beat the shit out
- 44:39of you. And it turns out because he fell on the ground upside down,
- 44:46his horns are stuck in the ground. And then we get a real
- 44:53slow pan again, guys, from face to face of each of this crew
- 45:04smirking in a real mischievous sort of way, going, oh really, oh
- 45:09you're stuck. Oh that's too bad. But what I loved about it was
- 45:17all of them are like smirking and smiling to themselves, except for Robin,
- 45:24who's got no expression on her face. And all we get for her like
- 45:30from her is a m That's it. That's it. That's it, that's
- 45:40it. I want so much for this to be enough, I really do,
- 45:52but I feel like, you know, the moment, for example,
- 45:58when she refuses to debate herself by having her join into the docking, it
- 46:06sets a real tone that I enjoy a lot. She takes herself super seriously.
- 46:10You know, she's got her dignity, she's not doing that, and
- 46:15this technically falls within that same theme her just like not cracking a smile and
- 46:23just sort of humming to herself. That does work, but I just I
- 46:32don't know, you know, I feel like they're something more could have been
- 46:36done, just a little moments like this where I feel like I get what
- 46:39they're going for, but it just doesn't quite hit for me. And there
- 46:45are times actually where having somebody who does take themselves really seriously act extremely excitable
- 46:52about something can be even better because they are out of character for that moment,
- 46:58and so it can be like extra effective. You know that you know
- 47:01they're really excited because they're sort of getting giggly for a moment. But anyway,
- 47:09I just had to mention it because each of them like having there,
- 47:14oh really and then again slowly walking forward, this was pretty funny. And
- 47:19you've got Oars with his mouth open, watching them all head in his direction,
- 47:23and he's just like, oh shit, what are you gonna do to
- 47:27me? And they begin to like beat the hell out of him once again.
- 47:30All of these other zombies on the other side of the island can only
- 47:35see it, but they don't understand what's happening, and they're One of them
- 47:39is like, I don't know, he's screaming a lot. I feel like
- 47:43Oars is getting his ass kicked, and one of the zombies says, maybe
- 47:47that's just the sound Oars makes when he kicks ass, which did make me
- 47:52laugh actually, And then all of a sudden, Oars is upright again,
- 47:58and he is dreaming at our friends, who have decided to turn and run
- 48:02for cover. They got him for a little while. Was not enough,
- 48:07though, friends, And then we have another retry of the docking thing,
- 48:15and it's a really well done the way that this goes again. Of course,
- 48:22Robin is like, I told you never to ask me again, so
- 48:25she will not participate. I think this time Zoro won't go for it either,
- 48:31if I'm not mistaken. But the oh my god, you guys,
- 48:38there's a moment where Sanji is imagining what it would look like if Robin was
- 48:45docking, and the camera doesn't fully pan over to her. Is it supposed
- 48:51to be that she's just got her like legs wrapped around Frankie's arm and that's
- 48:58like hot? Is that supposed to be the joke? I was just sort
- 49:01of puzzled by this. But anyway, so Frankie gets into position and he's
- 49:10like, come on, everybody, let's do this, and they jump up
- 49:15onto oors his face. I think Sorrow is doing it. I think he
- 49:24is. He comes running up to Sanji and says, can I get a
- 49:28leg up here? And I know Sanjie participates, and then he's like,
- 49:32never mind, this sucks, And then of course when it does turn out
- 49:36to sort of work, he's like, oh, oh this is my idea
- 49:38all along. Oh okay, No Zoro doesn't. He stays on the ground,
- 49:44and Sanjie just like launches the three of them up there. So they
- 49:49get up there and they are doing the kicking and punching and it is nothing.
- 49:54And then we have them starting to just basically like roast him. They
- 50:02are just roasting oars and starts. I think us up says something like you're
- 50:09the world's biggest joke something like that, and they just get him so fired
- 50:15up that in order to shut them up, he punches at them, but
- 50:22reminder, they are on his head, so he punches himself in the face
- 50:28and knocks himself out, and Oars is very mad, feeling like he got
- 50:34tricked, and this was like totally uncool. How dare you? Like I
- 50:38said, Sanji is on the ground talking about how he planned this whole thing.
- 50:43This is I knew this was going to happen exactly this way, and
- 50:50the whole like Oars falling and the slowness of it, and how he's like
- 50:55toppling and as he's falling saying, oh, I'm falling again. I was
- 51:04just loving it, he stops himself from falling. He does not fall you
- 51:10guys, this creature is too much. So this is when USAP is like,
- 51:15wait a second, Wait a second, he's still got Lufi's personality.
- 51:22What if we distract him by saying there's some meat over there and everybody's like,
- 51:30I don't know, but okay, And they do it and it works
- 51:36like a charm. And this means that our guys, while he is like
- 51:40totally distracted, just swoop in and break his kneecaps, which, um,
- 51:46I can't tell. It looked like he was sitting basically, but I couldn't
- 51:52tell. He winds up like picking a fist up and starting to do his
- 51:58gum gum whatever. And this is when Zoro comes at him and says a
- 52:02dinosaur could step on this blade and not bend a millimeter. They say that
- 52:08its resilience is one of the like signature aspects of this blade, and then
- 52:15we get the beginnings of the fight between the two of them. We don't
- 52:20get to see the whole thing because this is when we jump over to the
- 52:24boat where Pirona is hanging out and the fucking other Warlord of the Sea shows
- 52:34up in the midst of Nami, like talking to Pirona and being like,
- 52:38Hey, what are you even doing here? This guy is so different,
- 52:49He's got a real different vibe. First of all, he's wearing pants that
- 52:53are white but kind of look like they've been splatter painted, but in that
- 52:58very deliver way that things in the nineties were splatter painted, do you know
- 53:02what I'm saying? And it's not like multicolored, it's just like blue.
- 53:08Then he's got us like polke dotted. I guess it's not splatter paints.
- 53:13It is a pattern, just doesn't look like it when when you get in
- 53:16real close. But his name is the tyrant Bartholomew Kuma, and Pirona says
- 53:25something about all these atrocities that were committed under his watch, and of course
- 53:31he's got this humongous like helmet on that hides his eyes and a really square
- 53:39jaw and a really angry expression and everything about the vibe of this guy says
- 53:46that he is nobody to funk with. And he's carrying a book under his
- 53:52arm that is marked Bible, which choice, but I guess. And he
- 54:04asks whether she's working with Maria, and she says she's trying to escape and
- 54:08that she wants no part of this anymore. And the warlord asks if she
- 54:15could go on vacation anywhere, where would she go? And it's said in
- 54:22a genuinely curious way, like he wants to know the answer. And his
- 54:29voice is really like high pitched isn't quite the right word, but it's not
- 54:35wrong either. You know, you expect this dude to have a sort of
- 54:37booming bass note and instead he's like a maybe an alto. He's not even
- 54:45like a tenor, you know. And when she answers this question about like
- 54:52a cool haunted castle and everything, all of her people are like, we
- 54:57really liked your answer, Mistress Perona. But yeah, she says, I
- 55:02was taken aback when I realized who you were. But I've got nothing to
- 55:07fear with my devil fruit powers. There's nobody that I can't take down,
- 55:10and that includes you. So she gets into position like she's about to fight
- 55:16him, but he's just looking through his bible, just leafing through it,
- 55:24not entirely clear on what it is he's looking for, and she raises her
- 55:29hand and is like, all right, special hollow, here it comes.
- 55:32She does not appreciate being ignored because she's just not responding to her at all,
- 55:37and all of these ghosts come at him and he just ungloves a hand.
- 55:47We don't even really see the action. We see the glove come off,
- 55:52and then we see him standing with his hand down now and a little
- 55:58smoking puff on the ground in front of him, and then he says,
- 56:04before you started with this, I was just going to ask you where Maria
- 56:08is. And then I realized I thought he had just knocked out the ghosts
- 56:16and that they had disappeared, But it turns out that smoking spot on the
- 56:23ground was where Pirona had been. She's gone, and when everybody is like,
- 56:30what did you do with her? What happened? He doesn't answer.
- 56:36He just turns his head really slowly, and all of them panic and begin
- 56:39to flee. And I'm sitting here like, oh my god, I thought
- 56:45that he just destroyed her ghost. But she's just where did she? Can
- 56:51he like teleport? I mean he does. He's standing on the dock.
- 56:58Nami looks down, he's not there, and then he's up somewhere else,
- 57:00and she wonders about him teleporting, and I'm wondering, wondering if he can
- 57:05teleport Pirona by touching her, and you know, she's My instinct, of
- 57:10course, when he reaches out and she's fucking gone is that he destroyed her
- 57:15somehow, But I don't feel like that's likely. I'm thinking probably he like
- 57:19put her somewhere to get her out of his way for the moment, because
- 57:22she was about to try and fight him and he just wasn't interested. So
- 57:29Nami is like, well, what are you doing? Here, and he
- 57:31again teleports downstairs and is like, what I'm doing here is none of your
- 57:37concern, and very calmly walks on and Nami watches after him and is like,
- 57:45ah, I had better go and warn Lufy, and I'm like,
- 57:49I don't see how you think you're going to outpace the man who can teleport.
- 57:52Namie like, I understand the impulse and I appreciate the thought, but
- 58:00I just don't really feel like there's any point to trying to warn Lufy about
- 58:07a man who can travel that quickly and soundlessly. That's just a losing battle.
- 58:13You're not going to beat him unless you already know where Lufy is and
- 58:15I don't. I don't think she does. But anyway, we jumped back
- 58:21to Lufy finding out that he's been chasing Maria's shadow this whole time, and
- 58:24not even actually Maria, and that is the end of the episode. So
- 58:31all right, I am going to wrap up, But thank you guys again
- 58:35so much for hanging out with me, for your patience. Those of you
- 58:40who were here when my dog pete on the floor and I had to take
- 58:43a moment to clean it up. Sorry about that. And if you're just
- 58:47listening, I edited that out. You're welcome, all right, everybody until
- 58:52next time to the lou motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network podcast.
