- 0:00Welcome to Healthy, Happy, Wise, Wealthy, the podcast where we talk about everything
- 0:04about healthy, happy, wise, wealthy, living from cradle to
- 0:08grave. I'm your host, Mary Meyer. Hi, welcome back to
- 0:11Healthy, Happy, Wise Wealthy. I am Mary Meyer, your host. And I am excited
- 0:15for today because I've been wanting since I started this to talk about some
- 0:19physical things we can do in terms of detox. And today
- 0:22we're going to talk some detox and talk about other
- 0:26things. Vitality, taking care of yourself and Kara and
- 0:30Brittany and their collaboration and some things that
- 0:33they are working together on. So I know, Kara, we've
- 0:37had you on. I'm going to have you introduce yourself second then. So, Brittany, can
- 0:40you just introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about what you do? Yeah,
- 0:44well, thanks for having me. My name is Brittany Hyden and I am
- 0:48a functional medicine nurse practitioner and coach.
- 0:52Um, I. Yeah, I live in Nebraska
- 0:55and have known Kara for a very long time. Since we were
- 0:59five, to be exact. And yeah, I'm super
- 1:03excited for what we are going to discuss today and
- 1:06exploring our collaboration and just ways that we can
- 1:10improve people's health and,
- 1:14and vitality. Like, we want them to thrive in life.
- 1:18So I'm super excited to dive into that conversation today.
- 1:22Kara, naturally she is, because in fact, she is known
- 1:26as the vitality queen. Okay.
- 1:32She's earned the badge. Yeah.
- 1:36So Brittany and I have literally been best friends since
- 1:40kindergarten. So I just want. And I've known Mary for over a decade.
- 1:43So, you know, when you get to hang out with your friends, it's going to
- 1:47be a fun time. So we're going to talk about detox
- 1:50and pathways and all this, like, super cool, brainy
- 1:54stuff, because we're all super cool and brainy, but also we're
- 1:58going to have fun.
- 2:01So I have my background. When I first met Mary, I
- 2:05was doing more of functional
- 2:10healing and using herbs and homeopathy and essential
- 2:13oils and, you know, using biofeedback to look at the
- 2:17balances and imbalances in the body. So my background and
- 2:21then finding remedies for creating balance and looking at the underlying
- 2:24causes, having that as a background. But
- 2:28always my draw was what are
- 2:32the emotions tied into those physical things?
- 2:36And after some life changes in my own
- 2:40personal life, I ended up shifting more into
- 2:44that aspect of the personal life,
- 2:48and I believe that's part of our health journey. But I,
- 2:51you know, my people call me spiritual mentor,
- 2:55life coach. I'm an author. I have a podcast
- 2:59also. And Brittany and I have been
- 3:02working on a beautiful collaboration that we are so excited
- 3:06to talk about today. Well, since you said it, why don't we just talk about
- 3:10that? Tell me about the collaboration you two are doing.
- 3:13Yeah, so I have.
- 3:18I primarily work with women. Not exclusively, but I
- 3:22primarily work with women. And my, like,
- 3:25backstory on why I do what I do.
- 3:31My health failed. Like . And it
- 3:34just kind of leads you into. Yeah, it leads you down a
- 3:38path that you did not even know existed. And
- 3:42mine started with.
- 3:46There was many layers, but probably one of the most prominent
- 3:50layers. I started having heart arrhythmias. And there
- 3:54was no answer. I. You know, you took every
- 3:58test possible. I was on medications. The medications were not
- 4:01stopping the arrhythmias. And I was gray,
- 4:05could barely function, and I knew I was dying. I've been a nurse for
- 4:09over 20 years, and so I was very
- 4:12well aware of the traditional medical system, and I was
- 4:16doing everything in that system, and it was failing
- 4:20me. And I happened to
- 4:23be going to another cardiologist to
- 4:28come up with another plan, thinking I'd have to have ablation done.
- 4:32And I finally told Kara what was going on,
- 4:36and she was in the middle of or towards the end of
- 4:40battling Lyme disease. And she happened to mention,
- 4:46you know, parasites do weird things to people sometimes.
- 4:50And I was like, parasites? First off, we made fun of people with
- 4:53parasites because, you know, in traditional medicine, that's just laughable.
- 4:58And I was at a place that I was so desperate
- 5:02for help, I came home from. The cardiologist,
- 5:06did not tell him I was going to do something totally
- 5:10crazy, Ordered some random parasite cleanse
- 5:14that came in a Ziploc baggie from a mom and pop shop. I didn't
- 5:18even know what was in them.
- 5:21And lo and behold, after like a week or two, the
- 5:25arrhythmia started to stop. By 30 days, they were hardly
- 5:29present at all. And by 60 days, they were completely
- 5:32gone. Wow. And that was like a
- 5:36moment of like, oh, my gosh, time out.
- 5:40We've gotta rethink everything that you have learned in.
- 5:43And so that really sent me down the
- 5:47path of root cause medicine. And I went back to school and
- 5:52became a nurse practitioner. And then I dove into everything holistic
- 5:55and functional medicine. So
- 5:59knowing that that was the path that I was going down, and I start working
- 6:03with these women, and I still
- 6:07have a lot of my own baggage. You know, I am in the middle of
- 6:10healing. Things are getting better. But
- 6:14the emotional piece, which I've always been the person
- 6:18that's worked on becoming a better version of myself,
- 6:22but that part of healing really became
- 6:26apparent. And with my
- 6:29clients I noticed that I could give them
- 6:33so much information and then, you
- 6:37know, you get to a point like a standstill and you bring up
- 6:40the emotional side. But they really need someone to
- 6:44guide them through that. Like I can guide them physically and I
- 6:48can give them tools, but emotional healing is not
- 6:52my, it's not my line of genius. Even though I have
- 6:55done a lot of emotional healing myself and can,
- 6:59you know, I can kind of tell you what to do,
- 7:03but it's really carers gift. And so
- 7:08I, I just realized that we need both aspects
- 7:13if we are going to really make a difference in people's
- 7:16lives and health. They need the physical and they need
- 7:20the emotional components in order to
- 7:24really heal and thrive. For sure. I just, I think
- 7:27one of the things that's really fun about us
- 7:31working together is like I always, I, I like to like think
- 7:35about the picture of a Venn diagram. And a lot of times like on a
- 7:38team you'll have just a little bit overlap, but mostly you're doing, you
- 7:41know, your thing. And I think one of the things about
- 7:45Brittany and I is we have this massive overlap of, of
- 7:48knowledge and understanding in what
- 7:52one another really brings as their great strength. Both
- 7:56through our own personal journey and through our work with people.
- 8:01And we have these superpowers on the
- 8:05outliners that you know, we each possess. But
- 8:08the, the overlap of understanding to support someone.
- 8:13And like, even for me, there's no one I'd rather
- 8:16work with. Even Mary, when you asked me, because you know that I know
- 8:20a lot about detox and I'm very passionate about people
- 8:24being healthy and helping people be in
- 8:27tune to their bodies and live in alignment to that attunement. Because
- 8:31that, that's how we be happy and healthy. We
- 8:35have to be healthy to live the lives we want to live. And
- 8:39you know, it's like when you were talking about, I'm like, I mean I totally
- 8:43could talk about this all day, but let's bring my friend Britney on because it
- 8:46will be way more fun. And that's really her expertise.
- 8:50Like even though I have a lot of knowledge and a lot to
- 8:53contribute to the conversation.
- 8:57But it is interesting. Like in my own personal journey,
- 9:02I was coming out of an
- 9:06abusive marriage that I had been in for
- 9:1010 years and I was just so
- 9:13puny, I was so sick. And at one
- 9:17point I thought, okay, once I, once things are
- 9:21shifted and I'm, and I'm, and I'm out, I'm going to start feeling Better.
- 9:26Well, that did not happen. And you
- 9:29know, so I'm doing all this emotional work and I'm realizing,
- 9:33oh, I think this has taken a physical toll on my body. So the
- 9:37weaving together of these two things, and this is going to keep
- 9:40coming up all night as we're talking about detoxing.
- 9:45Because the, the reality that your emotional health
- 9:49is part of what causes
- 9:53dis. Ease and dysfunction
- 9:57in your body. Right. And then your,
- 10:01your healing path, like if you're working on the emotion only,
- 10:06there's a time when you have a physical body. So if that
- 10:09emotion has taken hold as a symptom, there will
- 10:13be physical work that's needed.
- 10:17So, you know, for me, when I realized like, I,
- 10:20I'm physically, like there's something really wrong with me. And then I was diagnosed
- 10:24with Lyme. But it was truly through my Lyme disease
- 10:28journey of, of healing myself that I
- 10:32deeply learned how connected
- 10:37emotional energy that we hold in our body
- 10:41contributes to our health or our illness,
- 10:44sickness, dysfunction, whatever. And I do want to clarify
- 10:48just because this is always important, we are three people
- 10:52having a conversation about health. We are not giving health
- 10:56advice. Yes, that's, that's always so
- 11:00important. Acknowledge for sure. And you know, you can't even,
- 11:03even, no matter what you, if, you know, if you're going to
- 11:07diagnose someone, it has to be a one on one kind of thing where you're
- 11:10doing all the testing and that kind of thing. And, and maybe then you don't
- 11:13even use the word diagnose. Because I don't even, I try not. To
- 11:17because I don't like, I don't like to have people associate themselves with a
- 11:21diagnosis. Yeah, I don't like the term at all. Yeah, yeah, I
- 11:25love that. I understand that. And Brittany, just to kind of like I,
- 11:29I went through something that was similar, maybe I don't know if how similar it
- 11:32was to , but I had my health failed when I was
- 11:3523, so. And I was just sleeping all the time. I couldn't really
- 11:39wake up. I feel like I had film in front of my eyes, brain fog.
- 11:42Like you don't even know how bad off it is. And I went to the
- 11:45doctor and they are like, get away. Like, they're so
- 11:48dismissive. They do not want anything to do with me. And so I just,
- 11:52you know, you work out a little bit, you go to the chiropractor, you try
- 11:55to eat some more fruit and vegetables. And it was such a long
- 11:59time. Took some supplements and it was such a long time until
- 12:03I went to Kara. And at that point, I was so
- 12:06acclimated to hiding it that I didn't even think. I didn't
- 12:10even know anything about it. And I think it took her all of five minutes
- 12:13to go, well, you have Lyme disease,
- 12:17so let's detox. And it was a detox. Let's detox that. And then we worked
- 12:21on detoxing that for a long, very, very, very, very long time.
- 12:25Yeah, I think it's a thing. Yeah. I think it's interesting
- 12:29the comment that you made, because I think we probably can all relate to
- 12:32this, is we are so used to
- 12:36pushing through that we don't realize how
- 12:40sick we are in the thick of it
- 12:44until you are better, and then you can have a moment, and it's
- 12:47like, oh, my. I
- 12:51was really, really sick.
- 12:55And, like, people around you don't even grasp
- 12:59how. How sick you are because you are so used
- 13:02to covering it up. Yeah. Especially as women, like, we. We know
- 13:06we have to show up and perform in certain ways. And,
- 13:10like, that threshold of when we will even recognize
- 13:14is so high. And we're like, well, I got to do it anyway. Well,
- 13:18I got to do it anyway. Well, at some point, there aren't any anyways
- 13:21left, and we've borrowed so much of the energy from tomorrow
- 13:26that we've run out of tomorrow's to borrow from. And it's like, oh, my
- 13:30gosh, I am. I can't do it anymore.
- 13:33Yeah. Wow. Yeah. That's profound.
- 13:38And I. You know, I've had a lot of brain fog in the middle of
- 13:40all this, and it does make me think, you know, you don't even. You really
- 13:44don't know that you're not doing well when you're. When your brain is foggy and
- 13:47you're. You don't have any mental clarity. Much mental clarity.
- 13:52That's a. That's a. That's a hard one. But, yeah.
- 13:56So I. So the main question of the night, let's, you know, someone comes
- 14:00to you. I know. And we're going to get back to you guys talking more
- 14:02about your collaboration. I know you kind of. We went. We went into your backstory.
- 14:05We'll keep coming back to it. It'll keep coming up in. In conversation. But
- 14:09if someone comes to you and says, I don't feel good.
- 14:13I feel like I've heard of detox, and. And I think maybe you could help
- 14:16me with detox. What should I do? I always ask the question
- 14:20why? I. I want to know why you're
- 14:24feeling that way. And I Think there's
- 14:27lots of buzz on social media about this
- 14:31detox or that detox or, you know,
- 14:35I've recently got a lot of requests for
- 14:39ivermectin, you know, let's parasite cleanse.
- 14:43But they don't even know what they're talking, you know, they don't even know what
- 14:46they're talking about. And granted I didn't know what I was talking about or doing
- 14:49either. But
- 14:52there's a reason behind the symptoms that you're having. If
- 14:56it's brain fog or fatigue or, you know,
- 15:00joint pain or inflammation or, you know,
- 15:03there's dozens and dozens of symptoms that you can be having
- 15:07and thinking that you need to detox from, but
- 15:11just going and buying and detox probably isn't the
- 15:15best way to go about it. There can be a
- 15:19strategic way because just blindsided
- 15:22going in and doing something, whether it's a
- 15:26parasite cleanse or a liver detox can.
- 15:29It can backfire on you in a really big way.
- 15:33So. And feel free to chime in whenever you want. Kara?
- 15:37Yeah, well, I was just gonna say because
- 15:41first of all, you can have any or all of those symptoms
- 15:45and if you just take one of those symptoms,
- 15:48there could be 17 reasons why, and it's
- 15:52probably more like 77 reasons why you're having
- 15:56that symptom. So we've been taught
- 15:59in our culture to think about symptoms as something to
- 16:03resolve with medicine. Like, I'm an,
- 16:06I feel, I have. A headache, I take, I want a quick fix. Yeah, we
- 16:09want to just like, but we're fixing the symptom. Whereas the
- 16:13kind of conversation we're having is like, what's
- 16:16causing the headache? Which headaches are probably the most vague.
- 16:20It's like, oh gosh, there's so many. Different headaches and they're so
- 16:24elusive and but you know, what's causing that
- 16:28symptom? And then for your
- 16:31body, what would support
- 16:35you to overcome whatever's causing that?
- 16:39And then as you work on that root cause, eventually that symptom
- 16:44changes or dissipates or gets better, goes away
- 16:47entirely. Symptoms you've lived with for years and years and you just
- 16:51thought, oh, it was just getting older or whatever.
- 16:55But that's part of why this blind big
- 16:58picture. Detox is just a, it's a really big
- 17:01word. Right. And.
- 17:05Go ahead, Brittany. Oh, there, there's, I wish I had this
- 17:09printed off, but one of the, the courses that I've
- 17:13taken, they take symptoms. So like our major
- 17:17cancer and like life altering diseases.
- 17:22And you know, that's at the Bottom of the. The
- 17:26pyramid here. And it's. Then they start stacking
- 17:29like, okay, well, what happened on top? Like, what happened before you get to
- 17:33a cancer diagnosis? Well, you have, you know,
- 17:37this disease and this disease, and we start just adding
- 17:40to the pile and ask the question, like,
- 17:44okay, well, why do you have high blood pressure or diabetes or
- 17:47hypothyroidism? Well, the next step is we have
- 17:52environmental toxins and we have. We're deficient in
- 17:56vitamins and minerals, and the list goes on and on.
- 17:59You know, emotional triggers, work, stress. So we just keep
- 18:03building and building and building. And at the top, once you
- 18:07add everything in there, and there is a lot. I mean, this,
- 18:11if you looked at it, it is completely full of random things
- 18:15that we are exposed to every day that we're thinking were, you know,
- 18:19part of our daily lives. And at the top, it kind of boils down to
- 18:23three points. Crap, food, toxins and stress. You know,
- 18:27Crap, food, toxins and stress. Yeah, I mean,
- 18:30there's a lot can go in that. But.
- 18:35Let me step into that for a minute because, you know,
- 18:39years ago I started thinking about how
- 18:43like, you know, doctors, people in general are always
- 18:47saying, you need to have less stress in your life.
- 18:50And anybody who's living modern life, like working
- 18:54mommy, whatever you're doing, being in relationship, dating,
- 18:58whatever you're doing, it's like, you want to give me some ideas on how
- 19:02to reduce stress in my life while still living it
- 19:05right? And that's when I got really interested in
- 19:09nervous system regulation and practicing myself
- 19:13and understanding how to regulate my own nervous system,
- 19:16but also how to guide my clients to
- 19:20practice and achieve. Because rest alone
- 19:24will not restore you. You have to give
- 19:28your nervous system inputs that it's safe and
- 19:32it's calm. And you have to do that over time and
- 19:35it becomes such a regular practice.
- 19:40You know, that's part of, you know,
- 19:44owning your life, getting in control of your health. Is this
- 19:47management of the reality of stress. We cannot come cut
- 19:51out all stress. From our own inevitable. And a little
- 19:55bit of stress is good. I mean, it makes us resilient. So it's
- 19:58not bad. But I mean, we're in such a. Such
- 20:02a hustle culture that we
- 20:06think like our downtime. Oh,
- 20:11like most people don't even understand
- 20:15what the nervous system is doing. They don't realize that they're living in fight or
- 20:18flight all the time. And then watching
- 20:22TV at the end of the day is their idea of de stressing. Or scrolling
- 20:25on their phone is their idea of de stressing or
- 20:29taking a hot bath, scrolling on their phone is distressing.
- 20:33Yet the nervous system is still. It
- 20:37doesn't know how to function. It does not know how to get into rest and
- 20:40digest or false. I was talking to a client about this
- 20:44today. The false, false. Piece of
- 20:48a glass of wine, a cigarette, you know, whatever,
- 20:52whatever other ways. Yep. Yeah. So you're.
- 20:56You might feel a calm, but it's false
- 20:59peace. It's not actual nervous system rest.
- 21:04And I love reminding people because we talk about
- 21:07dysregulated nervous system,
- 21:10dysregulated emotions, but the opposite is. Isn't
- 21:14like, you can say the opposite is regulated.
- 21:17But what does that mean? What does that tangibly mean? And that's
- 21:21such a, like, broad term. And what does that mean to me? What does that
- 21:24look like? And I like telling people the opposite is
- 21:28actually expression. So if we're talking about
- 21:32emotion, when you have dysregulated emotion, it's because
- 21:35you're not expressing or you're not in safety to
- 21:39express. When we're talking about the nervous system, it needs
- 21:43the opportunity to unwind and express,
- 21:47to. To have inputs and, you know, outputs and
- 21:51an exchange within you that allows you to actually
- 21:54express what's going on in your life. Discharge. Like
- 21:58this is the tiniest example, is the way most mammals, once
- 22:02they get through a flight situation,
- 22:05chased by whatever in the woods, parasympathetically,
- 22:09meaning involuntarily, they will shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.
- 22:13They're not doing it, their bodies are doing it until they discharge
- 22:17the fear and then they move on. Well, we have
- 22:20that situation where it's like, whatever, someone cut us off and this,
- 22:24that whatever, or we have heart racing, fight or flight kind
- 22:28of situations and we don't discharge that energy.
- 22:32So there are so many beautiful ways in which you can learn
- 22:36every day and throughout the day, hour by
- 22:40hour, to discharge this energy as it's happening.
- 22:44A healthy nervous system should be like a little
- 22:47sine wave between, you know, sympathetic stress, which
- 22:51is fight or flight, and then calm
- 22:55regulated. You know, in, in social,
- 22:59ventral vagal, where I'm just being social, I'm feeling joy, I'm open,
- 23:03my heart is open. And,
- 23:06you know, we spend so much time here or up into functional freeze
- 23:12that, you know, we, we forget how to even
- 23:15get down here. And part of functional freeze can
- 23:19feel much like depression. So I think a lot of times
- 23:23people can identify the symptom of depression.
- 23:27They are sometimes just stuck in functional
- 23:30freeze. Interesting.
- 23:34Yeah, I think, like learning those. And
- 23:38this isn't exactly detox, but it is
- 23:42part of day to day. You
- 23:45need to be discharging. So it's kind of like a nervous system
- 23:49detox, really. It's like you're
- 23:53recognizing what you are honestly up against in
- 23:56a given day and what it does to your system. And we, as
- 24:00women, we are cyclical. Not on a 24 hour
- 24:03basis. Like, we don't have full energy every day when we wake up
- 24:07in the morning. You know, we run on a cyclical pattern and
- 24:11we have different energy every day. So we have, we have different
- 24:14bandwidth to deal with things. We have different
- 24:19energy literally in our physical bodies.
- 24:23And, you know, I think even
- 24:27being able to consider how can I support my
- 24:30nervous system to get through this day and actually
- 24:34honor how I'm made as I'm going through
- 24:38the day. Yeah, there's just so many toxins,
- 24:41both emotional and physical, that I feel like
- 24:45have just been dumped on us. And every decade it's like a little get
- 24:48better people will start recognizing it, but I don't feel like they do. I.
- 24:52I think maybe small percentage people. Are even
- 24:56aware of it. You know, that's. That's
- 24:59all that I consume. So I think, oh, everybody knows about this. Why do
- 25:03I need to say this again? But like, in reality, that's not
- 25:07true. Most people are completely oblivious.
- 25:11And so from my standpoint,
- 25:15I mean, you can, you have to start somewhere. When the person comes and
- 25:19they're like, I am exhausted. I just want to do this detox, whatever do you
- 25:23think about this? Right? I mean, there is so much information
- 25:26you can learn from a simple set of
- 25:30labs and a history on the person.
- 25:35Okay. Like, there's just a wealth of
- 25:38knowledge in those two things. You can, you can
- 25:42take basic labs, look at them from an optimal
- 25:46window, and I can pinpoint like, okay, well,
- 25:50your body's fighting this infection and you're. Methylation,
- 25:54which is part of detoxification, is probably not
- 25:57optimal. You know, do we need some
- 26:01omegas? Are we like
- 26:05blood sugars? I mean, those are always a big one.
- 26:09Underlying infections, you know, those are just a few things that you can
- 26:13easily spot looking at lab work.
- 26:17So, Brittany, let me ask you to insert a question there. Do you take your
- 26:21own labs or do you just take labs that they've used, taken from a
- 26:25medical doctor to look at? I do both. I
- 26:28like to look at more than what your traditional
- 26:31practitioner is going to order. But you can take
- 26:35a basic metabolic panel and a
- 26:39blood count, and you can start with that because that
- 26:43does give you enough information to at least
- 26:46go on in the beginning
- 26:50from there. I mean, I. I like. I like functional
- 26:53labs, too. You know, I like digging deeper if we
- 26:57need to. But our basic labs with a few extras
- 27:02that can tell us a lot. I mean, you can create a very
- 27:06robust detox program for 90 days
- 27:10or, you know, four months,
- 27:13but if you want to dive deeper, you can go deeper
- 27:17than that. But like I said on the. On the flip side, just listening
- 27:21to their history, listening to what their life is like,
- 27:24not only that
- 27:28emotional component, which is huge,
- 27:32but their lifestyle. Where are they living? You know,
- 27:35I live in cattle country and ranch. You know, I
- 27:39have farmland all around me. And are they
- 27:43spraying crops or are they organic?
- 27:47You know, what type of home do they live in? Where is their job?
- 27:51What chemicals are they exposed to? The other day, I spoke to a gentleman.
- 27:55He'd grown up right by an airport. And so
- 27:59the constant exposures and the noise that
- 28:03I'm like, oh, my gosh. Something I would never even think of because I live
- 28:06in the middle of nowhere. And yet that was
- 28:10something that was very prominent in his life.
- 28:15Yeah. So take. Take a little bit of that information,
- 28:19and then you start asking, you know,
- 28:24what do you do to support your detox pathways? I mean, they don't know
- 28:27what they're doing. They are. They're wanting. I'm wanting to know, you know, are you
- 28:30having daily bowel movements to. To begin with, you know, are you
- 28:34voiding and are you pooping? You know? Right.
- 28:38Two simple places to start. Most people. Well, a good
- 28:41percentage of people are struggling with elimination in
- 28:45some way, shape, or form. Interesting. Well, and you just said.
- 28:48I'm gonna. Sorry to stop you, but you just said detox pathways, which I do.
- 28:52I know Kara had mentioned that a little bit earlier, and I think in general,
- 28:56this is also. Even. It's so basic, but it's also a thing we don't think
- 28:59about. Yeah. And I even know about it. I don't think about it
- 29:03as much as I need to. So can we just talk about detox pathways?
- 29:07What. What does that mean? I mean, we need a. We need a way
- 29:10to excrete the toxins. So
- 29:15elimination, bowel function, bladder function.
- 29:19The skin is a giant detox organ. Are you sweating?
- 29:24I mean, I spent most of my years never sweating and drop. And no one
- 29:28asked a question, you. Know, same, same, you know,
- 29:31from the. Time I was a child, did not sweat.
- 29:35So that's like a big red flag, right? In. In my world now,
- 29:40the lymphatic system, it's very you know, very little
- 29:44discussion on that. You know, those, those are a couple of the
- 29:48main detox pathways. Respiratory is the other one
- 29:51that comes to my mind. You know, what your lungs, what you're breathing in
- 29:55and what your lungs are able to excrete also. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:00So if, if one of those is not
- 30:03functioning properly, like I said, your body is
- 30:06recirculating and recycling all of those toxins.
- 30:10So over time, it's just this compounding effect.
- 30:14I mean, take, take your bowels, for instance,
- 30:18and women not having daily
- 30:22bowel movements, then we have
- 30:25estrogen issues, we have estrogen dominance because
- 30:30removing estrogen is. It's imperative to
- 30:33have daily bowel movements in order to clear that
- 30:37estrogen. So we have a
- 30:40buildup of estrogen, it ends up recycling in our system.
- 30:45Our body's still producing more estrogen. You end up with
- 30:49estrogen dominant symptoms. Like, I think about all the women
- 30:53in perimenopause and menopause, or even if you are younger than
- 30:56that and having heavy periods, terrible pms,
- 31:04then later, you know, hot flashes. I mean, that can be an
- 31:07imbalance of hormones. Fibroids.
- 31:11Fibroids, ovarian cysts, breast tenderness.
- 31:15I mean, all of those things are red flags that
- 31:19we're probably not clearing our estrogen like we should.
- 31:24So you're saying you clear estrogen by going number two? Yeah. Is
- 31:27one of the main ways. Your liver's very. Liver is very
- 31:31involved. Yes. I mean, but that's the exit. You know, there's
- 31:35three phases of detoxification and elimination is the
- 31:38third. Right. So going back to your original question,
- 31:42Mary, which was if you, if someone came and was like, I kind of want
- 31:46to do a detox, what do you think? One of the reasons that
- 31:50you, I mean, you can. There's all kinds of detox kits out there.
- 31:54You can do a little detox. If you're not
- 31:57pooping, you're just
- 32:00recirculating those toxins and you are going to feel
- 32:05so bad, you're really going to feel terrible.
- 32:09So it's really important first, like, if going back to
- 32:13your original question, that a person, well,
- 32:17ultimately they would be working with someone who's helping guide them through this, because
- 32:21it's actually very complicated and individual.
- 32:25But if you were just like a person who's like, okay, well,
- 32:28I want to kind of do this on my own. Like, it's important
- 32:32that you understand your body and how
- 32:36it works. How, like these different systems that Brittany's talking about and how it,
- 32:40how each one of them works, works to Clear toxins.
- 32:44When you understand the biology of how your body works, which is
- 32:47unfortunate, unfortunately, this very
- 32:52intuitive art that is lost. It's been lost
- 32:55in our culture. And the more you
- 32:59understand your body and how it works,
- 33:03the healthier you can be. So the first layer would be
- 33:07understand your detox pathways and do some self
- 33:10evaluation of. Like Brittany was saying, do
- 33:14I sweat? If. No. What could I
- 33:18do to help that pathway open?
- 33:23You know, and we can talk a little bit about each one of these. You
- 33:27know, my breathing. Is my breathing clear and open? And
- 33:31do I feel like, can I walk down the aisle with
- 33:35all the chemicals in the grocery store? I cannot.
- 33:39I cannot. I can't. I. I have. I mean, my lungs
- 33:43feel pretty clear, but I definitely struggle
- 33:47with that respiratory. Like when there are
- 33:50chemicals in the air. I'm struggling.
- 33:54Lymphatic, you know, do. Am I. Am I
- 33:58puffy? Do I wake up with stuff, Sleep lines?
- 34:03You know, the lymph
- 34:07doesn't have a pump like your heart does. It's fluid that's moving throughout your
- 34:11body carrying the things that need to exit.
- 34:15But it needs help pumping. So exercising, you
- 34:19know, even just walking. Yeah. And in our
- 34:22sedentary life, I mean, sitting in front of computers all day long,
- 34:26what are we doing to help move our lymphatic system? System, yes. And there's so
- 34:29many little things. Like, let's just pop in some little things that, like with
- 34:33lymphatics, I'll sit every night and I'm just doing a little
- 34:37pump right here at the. This is where all your lymph comes to. It's
- 34:40just right here at your collarbone. And you know, you can
- 34:45do a little push and pop open. Or I'll just sit there and
- 34:48it's the smallest pump. You're not pressing hard, you're not
- 34:52massaging. Very gentle, very gentle. It's the gentlest
- 34:56little like pulse. On.
- 35:00Underneath of your armpits or your groin. You know, those are also
- 35:03very prominent. Dry
- 35:07brushing. Dry brushing. Really helpful. Which.
- 35:10A vibration plate. Rebounding. I have
- 35:14been rebounding for two decades now. I, When I was
- 35:18so sick, my adrenals were so I could. I
- 35:21struggled to get off the couch. Couch. And I was.
- 35:25I love exercise. So that's never been like a thing for me where I,
- 35:29if, if my body's able, I'm working out. I love
- 35:32exercising. So this was during a time where I was just like, oh, my
- 35:36gosh, like I can hardly get up and just move about. Like taking a
- 35:40walk was actually too much for my body. I Got this
- 35:43rebounder and a rebounder looks like a little mini trampoline,
- 35:47but it's, you know, very high quality. Um, it's so
- 35:51that it's not hard on your back. It's not like a $20 trampoline from Target.
- 35:55And I couldn't even jump. I just bounced. I.
- 35:59I stood on the trampoline and I just bounced because that's
- 36:03getting at least some movement. And then I worked my way up to be able
- 36:07to jump. And so
- 36:10lymphatics, there's so many different things that we. Drinking
- 36:14plenty of water is really important. All of our. All of them.
- 36:18Yeah. There's nothing water isn't important for. And,
- 36:22you know, hydrating, making sure that you've
- 36:25got some electrolytes so that you're actually able to utilize the water.
- 36:29Yeah. Backing up, sweating, you
- 36:33know, obviously doing some kind of exercise. But like,
- 36:37I know Brittany saying she grew up never sweating. When I got
- 36:40really sick with Lyme disease, I was not sweating. And I've always
- 36:44been a person who, like, when I'm working out, I'm sweating. And
- 36:48that's when I learned like, oh, this is not normal and this is
- 36:52concerning. And so, you know, some of those
- 36:56heat induced therapies, like a sauna or
- 37:00an infrared mat or something that allows you
- 37:04to break a sweat. I have a personal sauna and I use it
- 37:07almost every day. There are days that I don't,
- 37:11but that's a really, you know,
- 37:15it's. It's not cheap, but it's an affordable
- 37:18remedy. Mine is a therasage,
- 37:22and I think. I got that same one. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:27It'S one of those that it doesn't. Your head is out, but it's
- 37:30tight, it's tiny. It'll fit in any space. You know,
- 37:34it zips up and down. It doesn't take up huge amounts of space.
- 37:38And it was very affordable, you know, and I've been using
- 37:42it since January of 2020. So we're at the end of
- 37:452025, and it still works like a charm. Like. Yeah, it's a
- 37:49good investment. And it's. It's a way to get things, you know,
- 37:53that's like, these are like easy tactics. I want to.
- 37:56I want to go back and kind of recap just because I. People are listening,
- 38:00probably driving, and they're like, what do they say again about lymphatic
- 38:03drainage? So just, I just kind of want to recap, make sure we went through
- 38:07all the different things. So lymphatic drainage, really it. You.
- 38:10You guys tell me if I got this, right. It moves all the toxins through
- 38:14the body, so they can get eliminated, basically.
- 38:18And some different things you can do with that. Kara is going, maybe that's
- 38:21Ishish. Tell me if I'm wrong after this.
- 38:25You know, like the. The rebounder, where you're mini trampoline bouncing
- 38:29will make it work. Exercise, movement, walking,
- 38:32vibration plate, drinking lots of water, electrolytes. And then
- 38:36you have the example of that little
- 38:40lymphatic massage on your. Kind of your collarbone, of your neck. You'd have to watch
- 38:43this on YouTube to see them do it. They're everywhere.
- 38:48Okay. Or under your armpits or in your groin area are some of the
- 38:52lymphatic areas. And then dry brush, you said, which is another
- 38:55thing you could look at. Mary, thanks. I appreciate
- 38:59it. You know what? I actually have a really funny story, and
- 39:03I have to say it now because it's about lymphatic drainage, and it
- 39:07just happened. So before we get back into the serious. This
- 39:10is very serious. It is very serious, but also fun. I bought it.
- 39:14I bought a vibration plate. And first of all, you cannot say that word without
- 39:17people cracking jokes. But secondly, I've been. I've been using
- 39:21it. I got one, but I had. Yeah, I had. So
- 39:25I've been using it. And look it up if you guys don't know what it
- 39:28is. But it's basically like, I don't even. What is it about, you know, a
- 39:31little bit bigger than your stance, and it's just going to move, move back and
- 39:34forth, back and forth. You feel so good after it.
- 39:38So I had my lights. When I came home last week, my
- 39:42lights were out in. In my apartment. And I'm like, okay, this is just
- 39:45some part of it, not. Not all of it. And so I flipped the
- 39:49breaker, and then one lamp started, you know, on and off, on and off, like
- 39:53a Halloween movie. And then another lamp started doing it. And then the
- 39:56kitchen lights did it, and then they stopped and then they turned off, and then
- 40:00they turned on and they're like. And so then they just went out. And
- 40:03I'm like, it's nighttime. I'm going to sleep. The next day, they came
- 40:07and to fix it, and they. They couldn't figure it out. They're looking
- 40:11in all the outlets, and they finally look behind the breaker box, and there was
- 40:14some kind of prong in there. This has nothing to do with Detox. It's just
- 40:16only funny. And it was installed incorrectly, so it's supposed to be like an
- 40:20inch apart, but it's kind of together and they're like. Well, any kind of vibration
- 40:25because it's installed incorrectly is going to make this disconnect.
- 40:29So even walking around. And of course I started chopping my head
- 40:33off. I'm like that vibration plate, you know, on the third floor,
- 40:37you know, vibrating the whole. Oh my gosh. Use
- 40:41your vibration plate. Go ahead and go get one. Drink your water.
- 40:46Vibration plates are so good for like bone density.
- 40:50They're good for like 15 minutes is worth. Is equal to
- 40:5430 minutes of walking. And if you can do like a
- 40:57little static squat or like hold your arms in a certain position, like
- 41:01the, the input to your. To your muscle
- 41:06when you're using it on that vibration plate. Yeah, it just is
- 41:09like so it's so beneficial. Yeah, I feel better. It
- 41:13does help. I feel like it helps a lot. And it's just too easy.
- 41:17And those are very inexpensive. Yes. Couple hundred
- 41:20dollars. Yeah, like it's too easy. You
- 41:24got no excuses on this one. Well, I think all the
- 41:28methods are kind of probably inexpensive because like the lymphatic. A lot of things you
- 41:32can do at home. Yeah, that's why I want to make sure we talk
- 41:35about those things. We just briefly spoke about the liver
- 41:40ways to detox your liver.
- 41:44Lemon water with. Well, my go to first thing in the morning is always
- 41:48Redmond's real salt and lemon water. Say that one more time.
- 41:52I've missed part of it. Redmond's real salt and lemon water. So
- 41:56real salt and lemon water. A hot cup of water and
- 42:00add some Redmonds and a slice of lemon. Squeezed lemon.
- 42:04And I gotta say, like, I can't do it hot. Like my
- 42:08body just. I will not drink it. I just do room temperature
- 42:12water and then I love it. It's delicious. Yeah, it is. It's
- 42:16addicting. Castor oil packs,
- 42:20those can be very beneficial for everything.
- 42:25But obviously you can. You can use it on your liver, you can use it
- 42:29on your tummy, you can use it on your thyroid.
- 42:33You can use it all sorts of. Places to help sprain an ankle. Throw a
- 42:36little castor oil pack on there. Yeah, yeah. Can you guys
- 42:40explain what a castor oil pack is? Because I know what you're talking about, but
- 42:43I feel like most people probably don't. So you want
- 42:46organic cold pressed castor oil.
- 42:51High quality castor oil. And it's
- 42:54sticky. I mean, it's a little sticky, but you put a
- 42:58little on your hand and rub it over your liver. And then they
- 43:02have these packs, they're cotton. I did try to
- 43:05use or to make my own at one time, I don't recommend
- 43:09it. I would say just buy the pack because it is such a mess trying
- 43:13to do your own. I'm not quite.
- 43:16That's just not my thing. So buy the pack and you just
- 43:20place that on top of, you know, if you're putting it on your liver and
- 43:24wrap it around, you can. I have used a little warm
- 43:27heat at times, especially like when I was going
- 43:31through breast implant illness and trying to detox my from that. I
- 43:35would put the pack on and then use some warm heat and set for
- 43:3820 or 30 minutes.
- 43:42So yeah, you can get them on Amazon. I always tell people to grab Queen
- 43:45of Thorns. I think that's the right name. You might have a
- 43:49different brand that. You use, , but the same castor oil.
- 43:53Their castor oil packs are a lot more expensive. You can get
- 43:56organic cotton castor oil packs on Amazon for very
- 44:00inexpensive and probably elsewhere. But the. You want it
- 44:04in glass, in glass, not want it in plastic. Or it's going to
- 44:07absorb whatever it's. Absorbing what it's in. So glass and
- 44:12Queen of Thrones is what I do too. Organic, cold pressed.
- 44:17And it's just a great, it's such a great, great tool.
- 44:21Great tool. It's so good. Yeah.
- 44:25And what it does is it draws things out. It's draws out
- 44:29talking out. Draws out. It's drawing out the toxins, drawing out
- 44:32inflammation. I also will recommend to people,
- 44:36you know, sometimes people get tired of pills. So I
- 44:40will recommend like a liver detox tea,
- 44:43something with milk thistle, maybe a little bit of turmeric,
- 44:47some vitamin C, I think beetroot
- 44:51and dandelion root. You know, those are all
- 44:55supportive for the liver. So
- 44:58have a glass of, or, you know, if you like tea, have a glass of
- 45:01warm tea before bed, or if you don't like it warm, drink it cold.
- 45:06But that, you know, that's an alternative to taking another type of
- 45:10supplement and even just bitter. Any
- 45:13bitter greens your liver loves, like
- 45:16dandelions, for example, they're very bitter, the, the leaves of
- 45:20a dandelion. But any bitter greens,
- 45:24the liver is like, thank you, thank you, thank you. And that's one really
- 45:28easy thing you can do if you feel like your liver needs some love
- 45:32is, you know, you can get bitters
- 45:36to take like 30 minutes before you eat. And it kind of
- 45:40wakes up the liver and kind of gets that
- 45:44cascade of digestion started because you're giving
- 45:47that input of, oh, bitter coming in. We're going
- 45:51to be digesting Another thing about, you know, the liver
- 45:55is trying to go to bed by 10pm
- 45:59and not eating for several hours before you
- 46:03go to bed. And the reason that's important is the liver
- 46:07performs like 700 jobs.
- 46:11And the way my Ayurveda teacher once explained. Explained this to
- 46:15me was if you go to bed with
- 46:19food in your system that hasn't been digested,
- 46:23your liver has to take care of that first. So it's like a
- 46:27janitor for the digestive system. Like, oh, I gotta
- 46:31spend my time digesting that food. If your liver is spending
- 46:35its time. So when we're resting is when the liver is doing all these
- 46:38jobs for our body. And if it's spending its time
- 46:42digesting your food, then it's not getting all its other
- 46:46jobs done, which. So I like telling people
- 46:49that because, oh, my gosh, so hard to get to bed early. So
- 46:53hard not to eat late at night. Like, I know.
- 46:57When you understand why. Again, when you intuitively understand
- 47:01why your body needs that or why the experts recommend that,
- 47:05I think it makes it a little easier to buy in and.
- 47:09And get in alignment with that, to get committed to that.
- 47:13I. I want to kind of circle back to talking about having
- 47:17bowel movements. Before, you know, before you do that. Would
- 47:21you care if I recap for the. Oh, yeah, go ahead. Let's see if
- 47:25Mary was listening. This is the. This is my quiz that I give myself.
- 47:28So liver detox. So
- 47:32warm water in the morning with lemon and
- 47:36Redmond salt. Yep. Okay. Is one. And then
- 47:41castor oil pack over your liver and you. Do you sleep with that
