We release new episodes every Thursday. And we are gonna continue today with our study of Ephesians, but we're not gonna wrap it up, right? No, we got one more. Okay. And we've got we're still talking about spiritual warfare. Uhhuh. It's been excellent. We talked last week about standing and standing on the word of God, executing our authority as we go forward standing on his word. Jeff: And we are gonna continue today with our study of Ephesians, but we're not gonna wrap it up, right? No, we got one more. Okay. And we've got we're still talking about spiritual warfare. huh. It's been excellent. We talked last week about standing and standing on the word of God, executing our authority as we go forward standing on his word. Randy: And Randy may say more about that, but we're going to continue on in Ephesians six and spiritual warfare. Randy, Jeff: And Randy may say more about that, but we're gonna continue on in Ephesians six and spiritual warfare. Randy Randy: you've got it. All right. So last week we talked about being strong in the Lord. We talked about putting on the whole armor of God that we may stand. All right. So I'm gonna read verse thirteen and fourteen. Okay. That's all we're gonna cover. Perfect. we're gonna cover truth. Jeff: Okay. You've got it. All right. So last week we talked about being strong in the Lord. We talked about putting on the whole armor of God that we may stand. All right. So I'm gonna read verse 13 and 14. Okay. That's all we're gonna cover. Perfect. we're gonna cover truth and righteousness in this section, and then we'll pick up the rest l next time. But verse 13 says, For this reason, the reason being that we have enemies that we have stand against, take up the full armor of God. Randy: and righteousness. And then we'll pick up the rest l next time. But verse thirteen says, For this reason, the reason being that we have enemies that we have to stand against, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything to stand. Stand therefore. Notice there's four times. Jeff: So that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything to stand, stand therefore. Notice there's four times. Randy: Saying therefore by fastening the belt of truth around your waist by putting on the breastplate of righteousness. So Paul's just gonna run through the and he's probably may even be looking at a Roman soldier as he's talking through these things. So you know, I don't intend to get totally wrapped up in the armor itself, of what it might look like and what it protects. Certainly the belt of truth holds everything together. The belt would hold all the armor together. You they'd have their their clothing underneath, and then they'd have the armor. Jeff: Saying therefore by fastening the belt of truth around your waist by putting on the breastplate of righteousness. Randy: on top and then the belt around it would keep it all in place and and that's probably a pretty good picture of truth and then the breast breastplate of righteousness covers our vital organs that certainly makes sense too but so but mostly we're gonna be talking about truth and talking about righteousness and kind of as I step through this this time and next time Jeff: on top and then the belt around it would keep it all in place and and that's probably a pretty good picture of truth and then the breast breastplate of righteousness covers our vital organs that certainly makes sense too but so but mostly we're gonna be talking about truth and talking about righteousness and kind of as I step through this this time and next time Randy: It says earlier in verse I think it's six eleven talks about the schemes of the devil, standing against the schemes of the devil. One of the things we can do is by looking at the armor, understand we can kind of backward engineer it, back our way into figuring out what the schemes of the devil are. They have ability, that's the right word. Jeff: It says earlier in verse I think it's six eleven talks about the schemes of the devil, standing against the schemes of the devil. One of the things we can do is by looking at the armor, understand we can kind of backward engineer it, back our way into figuring out what the schemes of the devil are. They have ability, that's the right word. Randy: They don't have authority, but they have ability to do things. Okay, so his schemes. You know, Paul told the Thessalonians, he goes, I've been wanting to come to you guys and I've tried multiple times, but I was thwarted by Satan. So if Paul can be thwarted by Satan, it's certainly a possibility that you and I can be thwarted by Satan. Jeff: They don't have authority, but they have ability to do things. Okay. So his schemes. You know, Paul told the Thessalonians, he goes, I've been wanting to come to you guys, and I've tried multiple times, but I was thwarted by Satan. So if Paul can be thwarted by Satan, it's certainly a possibility that you and I can be thwarted by Satan. We'll look at a few of those possibilities before. We looked at yesterday, talking about t snatching the word of God, and I think we'll talk on that here in just a little bit as another example. But these are examples of schemes and we'll talk about them as we go. So Randy: We'll look at s a few of those possibilities before. We looked at yesterday, talking about t snatching the word of God, and I think we'll talk on that here in just a little bit as another example. But these are examples of schemes and we'll talk about them as we go. So, Jeff: So I mean this is probably a hard question and I know you know you probably I don't know if you had enough coffee or not, but what do you think the belt of truth would tell us about the enemy schemes? Randy: I mean, this is probably a hard question and I know you know, you probably I don't know if you had enough coffee or not, but what do you think the belt of truth would tell us about the enemy's schemes? Jeff: He's gonna lie. He's gonna lie, yeah. So let's just be heads up for it. All right. I thought you were gonna ask me how long I've been married again. No, yeah, that's I wouldn't embarrass you like that. Give me an easy question. So yeah. Randy: He's gonna lie. He's gonna lie, yeah. So let's just be heads up for it. All right. I thought you were gonna ask me how long I've been married again. No, yeah, that's I wouldn't embarrass you like that. Give me an easy question. So yeah. It it's interesting to me that we can now help us prepare for this and we can see this. W let's just back up and get completely out of contact for just a second. It's interesting to me that God told Adam and Eve not to eat of this tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Jeff: It's interesting to me that we can now help us prepare for this and we can see this. W let's just back up and get completely out of contact for just a second. It's interesting to me that God told Adam and Eve not to eat of this tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And he just stopped right there. He never told them there's going to be a the possibility that there's an enemy that could come and deceive them into you know, and that they're gonna have to stand up against deception. Randy: And he just stopped right there. He never told him there's going to be a the possibility that there's an enemy that could come and deceive them into you know, and that they're gonna have to stand up against deception. that's interesting to me. But it doesn't apply to me and you because we're told right here that the enemy's coming with lies, the enemy's coming with deception, and we need to be girded about by the belt of truth. We need to be Jeff: that's interesting to me. But it doesn't apply to me and you because we're told right here that the enemy's coming with lies, the enemy's coming with deception, and we need to be girded about by the belt of truth. We need to be be resting in that, right? Yep. So I was just gonna list some of the lies. what what are some of the lies you think about that we have to contend with from Randy: be resting in that, right? Yep. So I was just gonna list some of the lies. what what are some of the lies you think about that we have to contend with from Maybe that we don't measure up. Yeah. You know? We're not really what God wants. I mean, not right now. May you know, sometimes. Yeah. Not all the time. Yeah. Jeff: Maybe that we don't measure up. Yeah. You know? We're not really what God wants. I mean, not right now. May you know, sometimes. Yeah. Not all the time. Yeah. Randy: So who we are in Christ, he started off by talking to Eve by saying, Did God really say? So what you just said, it would be, Did God really say Yeah, you're righteous, holy, faultless, blameless before him in love? Mm-hmm. Well, he did actually say that. But yeah, that's a lie that we have to that we have to know the truth in order to counter the lie. Yep. And that's what this belt is about, is about knowing the truth and countering the lie. Jeff: So who we are in Christ, he started off by talking to Eve by saying, Did God really say? So what you just said, it would be, Did God really say you're righteous, holy, faultless, blameless before him in love? Mm-hmm. Well, he did actually say that. But yeah, that's a lie that we have to that we have to know the truth in order to counter the lie. Yep. And that's what this belt is about, is about knowing the truth and countering the lie. Randy: Okay, so another thing is anything that we are tempted to to gain safety from, to gain security from, or to gain satisfaction from that is not according that is not Jesus Christ is is a lie. Yeah. And that's everywhere, right? The latest gadget will satisfy. Yeah. The latest gadget will make you safe. Jeff: Okay, so another thing is anything that we are tempted to to gain safety from, to gain security from, or to gain satisfaction from that is not according that is not Jesus Christ is is a lie. Yeah. And that's everywhere, right? The latest gadget will satisfy. The latest gadget will make you safe. Randy: Will make you secure. Yeah. Jeff: Will make you secure. Yeah. you know, this relationship, you know, she or he will make you Randy: You know, this relationship, you know, she or he will make you you know, feel better about life s satisfaction. New car, new house, new clothes, jewelry. This much in my four one K yeah will make me I can sit down and relax. Yeah, I can relax and not worry. Yeah. Right. So what we're doing, we're paying safety and security in four one K and not in Jesus Christ himself, right? Yeah. A new job, a better job, a new position, a new title. Yeah. notice none of these things are bad things. Right. Jeff: you know, feel better about life s satisfaction. New car, new house, new clothes, jewelry. This much in my four one K Yeah. Will make me I can sit down and relax. Yeah, I can relax and not worry. Yeah. Right. So what we're doing, we're paying safety and security in four one K and not in Jesus Christ himself, right? Yeah. A new job, a better job, a new position, a new title. Yeah. notice none of these things are bad things. Right. Randy: You know, if he comes up and tells you, you know, if you would, you know I got a hammer hammered finger here with the nails about to come off. If he comes say, Hey, if you just whack your finger real hard with that hammer, you know, everything's gonna be good. Well you we'd go, No, that's dumb, get out of here. But when he says, Hey, this this relationship, this new job is gonna satisfy we go, well maybe so And we step into that. Right? That's just Jeff: You know, if he comes up and tells you, you know, if you would, you know I got a hammer hammered finger here with the nails about to come off. If he comes say, hey, if you just whack your finger real hard with that hammer, you know, everything's gonna be good. Well you we'd go, No, that's dumb, get out of here. True. But when he says, Hey, this this relationship, this new job is gonna satisfy, we go, well maybe so And we step into that. Right? That's just Randy: that's that's a lie. We see that everywhere. I don't know of any society in the history of mankind or on this planet that is marketed to more than the US society. Sure. And what does marketing do? Jeff: that's that's a lie. We see that everywhere. I don't know of any society in the history of mankind or on this planet that is marketed to more than the US society. Sure. And what does marketing do? Randy: Marketing says you need trust you you're unhappy, makes you unhappy with where you are. Yeah. And you get this product and you will now be happy. Yeah. S safe, secure, satisfied, however we want to look at that. And that's not the only Jeff: Marking says you need trust you you're unhappy, makes you unhappy with where you are. Yeah. And you get this product and you will now be happy. Yeah. S safe, secure, satisfied, however we want to look at that. And that's not the only that's a short list. That's not the the full list probably, right? Right. And what about sin? Sin, well I can dabble in it. I'm different. Right. Somebody else dabbled in this and got, you know, and blew up their life, but not me. Right. I've got it together. Randy: That's a short list, that's not the the full list probably, right? Right. And what about sin? Sin, well I can dabble in it. I'm different. Right. Somebody else dabbled in this and got, you know, and blew up their life, but not me. Right. I've got it together. Right. Yeah, that's certainly I can handle it. Jeff: Yeah, that's certainly I can handle it. and hey, just remember, you know, first John one nine, all I gotta do is confess and I'm good to go again, you know. And we've talked about the wrong interpretation of first John one nine and how it actually adds to our tendency to sin doesn't take away. It is bondage, it is not freedom. First John one nine, the way many people interpret it, right? Yep. and then we and then we go the other way. Well, I'm not gonna be tempted to do that. Well, what what about tempted with false humility so that you don't have to believe? For instance Randy: And hey, just remember, you know, first John one nine, all I gotta do is confess and I'm good to go again, you know. For instance, you know, there's a Jeff: you know, there's a a big section within within Western Christianity that that thrives in calling themselves a sinner. And you're like, well, you know, that was before Christ. After Christ, you are now righteous. And you're either a sinner righteous. There's no in between. There's no I'm sometimes this and sometimes that. Nope. You're one or the other. You're either right with God or you're not right with God. Yeah. and we are right with God because of what Christ has done, right? Yep. I think I think of Randy: a big section within within Western Christianity that that thrives in calling themselves a sinner. Yep. I think I think of in the garden. He said he created he created humans and he's then he adds this little addendum, I created them male and female. So he c created us different, right? I think I think being created in his image Jeff: in the garden. He said he created he created humans and he's then he adds this little addendum, I created a male and female. So he c created us different, right? I think I think being created in his image, he had to use a female and a male to to at least get close to his image. Randy: He had to use a female and a male to to at least get close to his image. And if you do the math we're not really close yet anyway. But you know, beauty, I think he his beauty is is within the female and his strength is within the male, you know. So, some of our lies that we hear are tainted toward our gender, right? So yeah, you know, I raised two daughters and and been married for almost forty years, so Jeff: if you do the math we're not really close yet anyway, but you know, beauty, I think he his beauty is is within the female and his strength is within the male, you know. So some of our lies that we hear are tainted toward our gender, right? So yeah you know, I raised two daughters and and been married for almost forty years. So Randy: you know, and the and the ladies of my life, they hear the accusation that they're ugly or that they're Jeff: you know, and the and the ladies of my life, they hear the accusation that they're ugly or that they're Randy: you know, those kinds of things. I hear and and and people around me that are men hear, I'm not able, I'm not capable. Yeah. I'm powerless. Those are all lies, right? Right. even good stuff like even I've got to stop sinning. I put that in there. Vice instead of you go, Well, you that should be good. you do have to stop sinning. No, I have to live out being holy and righteous and the sin will just go by the wayside. Yep. Jeff: you know, those kinds of things. Yep. Randy: But when I focus on stopping sinning or focus on being good, Romans seven twenty one has a law that kicks in. It says every t Paul says, I've discovered this law that every time I want to do good, evil is present with me. that's that's and that's what leads to the part in previous Romans sevens where I don't do what I wanna do and what I wanna do I don't do and he and he's like that's because you're trying on your own strength. Jeff: But when I focus on stopping sinning or focus on being good, Romans seven twenty one has a law that kicks in. It says every t Paul says, I've discovered this law that every time I want to do good, evil is present with me. that's that's and that's what leads to the part in previous Romans sevens where I don't do what I want to do and what I wanna do I don't do and he and he's like that's because you're trying on your own strength. Randy: follow the law, to do good, to stop sinning. Those are all very you can see as we start as we went down the the lies become more subtle. Yeah. you know, he is the father of lies. So he's very, very good at it. He has been around longer than we've been around. He's experienced lying to many humans. And so he is and he's not stupid, right? so he understands and he learns and he doesn't forget like we do. Jeff: follow the law, to do good, to stop sinning. Randy: let's see some other things, lies later next time. Hey, I don't need it I don't need to obey right now. Lord said, Go talk to that person, go go love on that person. Well, I'm busy. those are lies. I'm guilty. I feel guilty. I feel condemned. Those you know, accusations, shame, and guilt and condemnation are four of his primary weapons. They were all neutralized at the cross and they're all gone. But he still keeps bringing up and Christians still keep believing Jeff: let's see some other things, lies later next time. Hey, I don't need it I don't need to obey right now. Lord said go talk to that person, go go love on that person. Well, I'm busy. those are lies. I'm guilty, I feel guilty, I feel condemned. Those you know, accusations, shame and guilt and condemnation are four of his primary weapons. They were all neutralized at the cross and they're all gone. But he still keeps bringing up and Christians still keep believing Randy: and still get f pulled down into that. So those are those are some of the lies that he does. let's let's look up some verses and talk through some stuff. we all have this memorized, but let's go read it anyway. John fourteen six. And you may not know you haven't realized, but when you hear it you'll go, I got that memorized. I am the way, the truth and the life. Yeah. Okay. Jeff: and still get f pulled down into that. Yeah. Okay. Randy: John fourteen, six. Yeah. Jesus replied, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. All right. He is the truth. and we're talking about countering lies. So so one of his primary things is to counter the truth of Jesus Christ. So he didn't accomplish what he accomplished in our lives. Or Jesus is not divine, or Jesus is not really human. Both of those, first John deals with Jeff: John fourteen, six. Both of those, first John deals with at great extent, and they're both lies. He was fully a hundred percent human and he was fully a hundred percent God, right? And he is the truth. Flip over to John eight, thirty one and thirty two. Randy: at great extent and they're both lies. He was fully a hundred percent human and he was fully a hundred percent God, right? And he is the truth. Flip over to John eight, thirty one and thirty two. Eight, thirty one, and thirty two. Mm-hmm. Jeff: Eight, thirty one, and thirty two. Randy: Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Okay, the truth sets us free, right? So lies lie a lie is a trap to try to put us into bondage. So sin is bondage, addiction is bondus bondage. I put here joyless ri religion or powerless religion. Jeff: Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Okay, the truth sets us free, right? So lies lie a lie is a trap to try to put us into bondage. So sin is bondage, addiction is bondus bondage. I put here joyless ri religion or powerless religion. Randy: All religion is joyless, all religion is powerless. Jeff: All religion is joyless, all religion is powerless. But we can quickly trade in the new covenant, the gospel for religion. And that entraps us and puts us in bondage. So Jesus is the truth and he sets us free. Galatians five one is one of my favorite verses, but that that we've been set free. Randy: But we can quickly trade in the new covenant, the gospel for religion. And that entraps us and puts us in bondage. So Jesus is the truth and he sets us free. Galatians five one is one of my favorite verses, but that that we've been set free. Ephesians one thirteen through fourteen. We've already talked to this, but I just have it talking about truth here. Jeff: Ephesians one, thirteen through fourteen. We've already talked to this, but I just have it talking about truth here. Randy: Ephesians one verses thirteen and fourteen. Jeff: Ephesians one verses thirteen and fourteen. Randy: And when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, when you believed in Christ, you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit, who is the down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of God's own possession to the praise of his glory. Okay, the word of truth, which is the good news of your salvation. So one of the lies he's going to come against us is that that we're not saved, or we're Jeff: And when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, when you believed in Christ, you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit, who is the down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of God's own possession to the praise of his glory. Okay, the word of truth, which is the good news of your salvation. So one of the lies he's gonna come against us is that that we're not saved, or we're our salvation was incomplete, or we still have to do more. you know, well Randy: our salvation was incomplete or we still have to do more. you know, well, grace is too good to be true. Well, it kinda is, but it is true. But it's not too good to be true because it is in fact true. And he will come at our salvation. He'll come at our thinking when it comes to our day to day operation as a saved person, as a new creation. And we've talked a a lot about that last time and and we'll continue. But Jeff: grace is too good to be true. Well it kinda is, but it is true. But it's not too good to be true because it is in fact true. And he will come at our salvation. He'll come at our thinking when it comes to our day to day operation as a saved person, as a new creation. And we've talked a a lot about that last time and and we'll continue. But Randy: These are the truths. These are some of his tactics that he's going to come against. This is slightly different, but we talked about the Luke version of this. Now let's go to Mark verses fifteen. This is that parable about the seed, which is God's word falling on different kinds of ground. And we talked about this when we were there, but let's just read it so we can kind of let it sink in. Read Mark four fifteen. Four fifteen. These are the ones on the path where the word is sown. Jeff: These are the truths. These are some of his tactics that he's going to come against. This is slightly different, but we talked about the Luke version of this. Now let's go to Mark verses fifteen. This is that parable about the seed, which is God's word falling on different kinds of ground. And we talked about this when we're there, but let's just read it so we can kind of let it sink in. Read Mark four fifteen. Four fifteen. These are the ones on the path where the word is sown. Randy: Whenever they hear, immediately Satan comes and snatches the word that was sown in them. So words this is this isn't an amazing ability that Satan can do. That he can snatch the word away from God's word being sown in somebody's heart. so that is a huge Jeff: Whenever they hear, immediately Satan comes and snatches the word that was sown in them. So words this is this isn't an amazing ability that Satan can do. That he can snatch the word away from God's word being sown in somebody's heart. so that is a huge Randy: ability that he has, it's part of the huge objectives of his lies is to come against Christ, to come against the gospel and thereby snatching that good news out of somebody's heart. Jeff: ability that he has, it's part of the huge objectives of his lies is to come against Christ, to come against the gospel and thereby snatching that good news out of somebody's heart. Randy: I wanna go a take a quick aside when we're talking about spiritual warfare. Jeff: I want to take a quick aside when we're talking about spiritual warfare. This primary in Ephesians six is talking about, I think, our individual warfare. But there's so much more to it than that and it comes to community and interceding. And this is an example of a different type of warfare. So keep that in mind. The the devil snatches this, the God's word from people's heart. Go to second Corinthians four. We'll look at a slightly different Randy: This primary in Ephesians six is talking about I think our individual warfare. But there's so much more to it than that and it comes to community and interceding. And this is an example of a different type of warfare. So keep that in mind. The the devil snatches this, the God's word from people's heart. Go to Second Corinthians four. We'll look at a slightly different idea and then talk about it, and then we'll be back to our other Jeff: idea and then talk about it and then we'll be back to our other part. But second Corinthians four verses three and four. Okay. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing, among whom the God of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, so that they would not see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. Okay, so he can snatch the word out of people's hearts. He can also Randy: 2 Corinthians 4 verses 3 and 4. Okay. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing, among whom the God of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, so that they would not see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. Okay, so he can snatch the word out of people's hearts. He can also He he's called the God of this age, and it says he has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, so they would not see the light of his glorious gospel. Here's what I'm want to get at. When we're interceding for family and friends and acquaintances that are not following Jesus Christ, this is them. The first soil up here, he snatched the word from the heart. The second one here, he's blinded them, blinded the minds of those. What do I know about him? I know I have authority over him. Jeff: He he's called the God of this age, and it says he has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, so they would not see the light of his glorious gospel. I know that I can step in in an accessory role and command in Jesus' name that the blindfolds be removed from the minds of my loved one, from the minds of my friends. And same thing, I can I can command that he not snatch the word out of their heart. These are all things that we're given the authority over. Randy: I know that I can step in in an accessory role and command in Jesus' name that the blindfolds be removed from the minds of my loved one, from the minds of my friends. And same thing, I can I can command that he not snatch the word out of their heart. These are all things that we're given the authority over. over his ability he has no authority. He only has the ability to do things and he only can do it to the extent that we let him. And we can pray for our loved ones and we can pray specific things that that stop him in his tracks. And these are the kinds of spiritual warfare things that we need to be engaged in every day. But anyway, now back to to this thing about truth. Let's go read the first time it happened. in Genesis three Jeff: Over his ability, he has no authority. He only has the ability to do things, and he only can do it to the extent that we let him. And we can pray for our loved ones and we can pray specific things that that stop him in his tracks. And these are the kinds of spiritual warfare things that we need to be engaged in every day. Anyway, now back to to this thing about truth. Let's go read the first time it happened. in Genesis three. Randy: Verses one through five. If you want to r read that and then we'll just make some stuff and then we'll go into righteous make some make some stuff. We'll make some observations. Make some stuff up. We'll make some stuff up and then we'll go to all right. You know three one through five righteousness. Yeah, three one through five. All right. Now the serpent was shrewder than any of the wild animals that the Lord had made. Jeff: Verses one through five. Randy: He said to the woman, Is it really true that God said, You must not eat from any tree of the orchard? The woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the orchard, but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard, God said, You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it, or else you will die. The serpent said to the woman, Surely you will not die, for God knows that when you eat from it, your eyes will open, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. Okay. Jeff: He said to the woman, Is it really true that God said, You must not eat from any tree of the orchard? The woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the orchard, but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard, God said, You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it, or else you will die. The serpent said to the woman, Surely you will not die, for God knows that when you eat from it, your eyes will open, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. Okay. Randy: First of all, his lies are terribly arrogant. If we'll just stop for a minute and listen, he says, Is it really true that God said you must not eat from any tree of the orchard? First of all, the the arrogance for him to step up and confront God is amazing. That's what 2 Corinthians 10 would call an arrogant obstacle. Jeff: First of all, his lies are terribly arrogant. If we'll just stop for a minute and listen, he says, Is it really true that God said you must not eat from any tree of the orchard? First of all, the the arrogance for him to step up and confront God is amazing. That's what 2 Corinthians 10 would call an arrogant obstacle. Randy: against the truth of God. So these lies are arrogant obstacles. There's an arrogance, there's a an audacity to what he says. And then this this one here, he actually engages her with a lie that is so obvious that he draws her in. He says, You did he really say you must not eat from any tree of the orchard? Well what did he really say? He said you can read from every tree in the orchard except for this one. Jeff: against the truth of God. Randy: And he says, Did he really see you can't eat from all these trees? Of course, she's standing in the middle of a garden that's full of fruit. good fruit, fruit she can eat. So he engages her and sucks her in with this crazy thought or this crazy idea. And and so she steps right in to start correcting him. And then the next lie, this is where it's it's a partial truth. And and he plays to her a couple of different ways. First of all, he says, Surely you will not die. Jeff: And he says, Did he really see you can't eat from all these trees? Of course, she's standing in the middle of a garden that's full of fruit. good fruit, fruit she can eat. So he engages her and sucks her in with this crazy thought or this crazy idea. And and so she steps right in to start correcting him. And then the next lie, this is where it's it's a partial truth. And and he plays to her a couple of different ways. First of all, he says, Surely you will not die. Randy: So he says, Yeah, you won't well did she die when she ate from it? Well, not physically. You know, it wasn't poison. It it wasn't arsenic and she just killed over dead. But she did die spiritually. She was cut off from God and her spirit, while it existed, was no longer alive, because it's no longer c connec connected to the Father and her and her life and our lives and all our existence up to that point changed forever, right? and then he plays to her Jeff: So he says, Yeah, you won't well did she die when she ate from it? Well, not physically. You know, it wasn't poison. It it wasn't arsenic and she just killed over dead. But she did die spiritually. She was cut off from God and her spirit, while it existed, was no longer alive because it's no longer c connec connected to the Father and her and her life and our lives and all our existence up to that point changed forever, right? and then he plays to her Weaknesses, he plays to her desires. he says, Hey, no, no, no, no. Your eyes will be open. Well, she goes, she probably hadn't even maybe hadn't even thought their eyes were closed. Wait a minute. I didn't know my eyes were closed. Do you mean my eyes are closed? And this will open them, and I'll be like God, understanding good and evil. that's kind of true. Randy: Weaknesses. He plays to her desires. he says, Hey, no, no, no, no. Your eyes will be open. Well, she goes, she probably hadn't even maybe thought their eyes were closed. Wait a minute. I didn't know my eyes were closed. Do you mean my eyes are closed? And this will open them, and I'll be like God, understanding good and evil. that's kind of true. they didn't understand or know. They did they had an experience. That's what that word know is. They'd hadn't experienced good and evil. But when they ate from the tree, yep, they'd experienced good and evil. But it just wasn't good, right? But it was it was something that played on it was a lie that was partial, that had a a good amount of truth in it, but also played on some of her desires or her gut feelings. it appeals to maybe the common sense of the world. Jeff: they didn't understand or know. Randy: for us this lie that that we might hear will will do that. Jeff: for us this lie that that we might hear will will do that. Randy: You know, I think some of the Jeff: You know, I think some of the Randy: Some of the lies we believe in the church have a very religious feeling to them, a really noble feeling to them. And sometimes we will or a very humble feeling to I'm surprised at how humility is a lie that's actual f arrogance and false humility is is dressed up like humility and how many people buy into it. and and so Jeff: Some of the lies we believe in the church have a very religious feeling to them, a really noble feeling to them. And sometimes we will or a very humble feeling to I'm surprised at how humility is a lie that's actual f arrogance and false humility is is dressed up like humility and how many people buy into it. and and so Randy: we we have to be on our guard and we have to be constantly looking in God's word and go is is is what I'm thinking true? Is what I'm hearing true? are the accusations true? Is the condemnation true? is this from the Holy Spirit or from the devil? and we have to be on guard for that and and one of them is lies versus truth. let's see. Jeff: we we have to be on our guard and we have to be constantly looking in God's word and go is is is what I'm thinking true? Is what I'm hearing true? are the accusations true? Is the condemnation true? is this from the Holy Spirit or from the devil? and we have to be on guard for that and and one of them is lies versus truth. let's see. Randy: Let's let's not go there, but John seventeen, verses seventeen and nineteen. Well let's just go John fur seventeen seventeen. You you're really quick with your Bible. Why don't you go John seventeen seventeen? Since I see you're already tapping on your iPad. Let's read it. All right. Seventeen seventeen. Set them apart in the truth. Your word is truth. So this is Jesus praying for his disciples the last the night la their last night together before the cross. Jeff: Let's let's not go there, but John seventeen, verses seventeen and nineteen. Well let's just go John fur seventeen seventeen. You you're really quick with your Bible. Why don't you go John seventeen seventeen? Since I see you're already tapping on your iPad. Let's read it. All right. Seventeen seventeen. Set them apart in the truth. Your word is truth. So this is Jesus praying for his disciples the last the night the la their last night together before the cross. Randy: And he says, This this truth sanctifies us. This truth sanctify means to be made holy. Holy means to be set apart. We talked about a few episodes ago. The opposite of holy is not immoral. The opposite of holy is is ordinary. Jeff: And he says, This this truth sanctifies us. This truth sanctify means to be made holy. Holy means to be set apart. We talked about a few episodes ago. The opposite of holy is not immoral. The opposite of holy is is ordinary. Randy: God's truth sets us apart. We need to be Jeff: God's truth sets us apart. We need to be sanctified in his truth. He is truth, his word is truth. So that's how we get there. That's why Romans twelve two talks about renewing our mind. Our mind needs to be renewed in God's word, and that's what transforms us. Any questions, comments, thoughts, things you thought of as we're talking through about truth, 'cause we're about to go on to righteousness. Not so far. Not so far? Mm mm. Randy: sanctified in his truth. He is truth. His word is truth. So that's how we get there. That's why Romans twelve two talks about renewing our mind. Our mind needs to be renewed in God's word. And that's what transforms us. Any questions, comments, thoughts, things you thought of as we're talking through that about truth, 'cause we're about to go into righteousness. Not so far. Not so far? Mm mm. All right. That must be because you're I have fleeting thoughts. They're good. Then they go away and remember them. What happened, man? All right. The next one is six fourteen. Stand firm, therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breast breastplate of righteousness. So let's talk about righteousness here for just a second. We'll go look up some birds. We're gonna talk about the meaning, the source, and the tactic that it displays, and then we're gonna look at some Jeff: All right. That must be because you're I have fleeting thoughts. They're good. Then they go away. I don't remember them. Yeah. What happened, man? All right. The next one is six fourteen. Stand firm, therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breast breastplate of righteousness. So let's talk about righteousness here for just a second. We'll go look up some birds. We're gonna talk about the meaning, the source, and the tactic that it displays, and then we're gonna look at some ways that the Bible shows that that that works itself out there just a little bit. But anyway, right literally means to be right before God. Justified. Justified I've heard justified justified never sinned. It means I'm a complete right standing before God. Randy: ways that the Bible shows that that that works itself out there just a little bit. But anyway, right literally means to be right before God. Justified. Justified I've heard justif justified never sinned. It means I'm a complete right standing before God. It is the ability when he says in Hebrews 4:16, come boldly before the throne of Christ. It is the bill, it is the attribute of righteousness, being right before him, that allows me to come boldly before his throne of grace in my time of need that I might receive mercy. So that's what righteousness is. Jeff: It is the ability when he says in Hebrews 4:16, come boldly before the throne of Christ. It is the bill, it is the attribute of righteousness, being right before him, that allows me to come boldly before his throne of grace in my time of need that I might receive mercy. So that's what righteousness is. Randy: Acting right or doing right is the fruit of righteousness. I cannot do right unless I'm already righteous. That's the that's the dilemma that we find ourselves in in religion or in the old covenant when it said do all these things in order to become righteousness. The purpose of the law was to show us that when we that we can't do all those things, because we have to be perf perf perfect to be before him. Jeff: Acting right or doing right is the fruit of righteousness. I cannot do right unless I'm already righteous. The purpose of the law was to show us that when we that we can't do all those things, because we have to be perf perf perfect to be before him. Randy: And then so Jesus Christ won our righteousness for us on our behalf. And then he gave us his righteousness. But that righteousness is a right standing before God. Okay. What's our source? Let's go read a couple verses. Go to Romans three, verse twenty eight. I might as well read some too, because you're I don't pay you enough to read everything. This is true. Jeff: And then so Jesus Christ won our righteousness for us on our behalf. And then he gave us his righteousness. But that righteousness is a right standing before God. Okay. What's our source? Let's go read a couple verses. Go to Romans three, verse twenty eight. I might as well read some too, because you're I don't pay you enough to read everything. This is true. Randy: You'll get mad at I'm working on payroll stuff as we speak. All right. So first of all, Romans 3 28. Read that. For we consider that a person is declared righteous by faith apart from the works of the law. So what's our source of righteousness? It's Jesus Christ's righteousness. So this breastplate of righteousness is Jesus Christ's righteousness. It is not our righteousness. Yep. Because one, our righteousness is worthless. Jeff: You'll get mad at I'm working on payroll stuff as we speak. Randy: And one, our righteousness wouldn't protect anything. Yeah. I've heard people talk about this as being acting right and doing right. I got it, but that is a fruit of righteousness. But when the accuser of the devil comes, my righteousness will not stand up to his accusations. His righteousness, Jesus Christ's righteousness, will stand all day long up against the accuser's accusations. Let me read a couple. Jeff: And one, our righteousness wouldn't protect anything. Yeah. I've heard people talk about this as being acting right and doing right. I got it, but that is a fruit of righteousness. But when the accuser of the devil comes, my righteousness will not stand up to his accusations. His righteousness, Jesus Christ's righteousness, will stand all day long up against the accusers' accusations. Let me read a couple. Randy: We could read several the original. Therefore, this is Romans 5 1. Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So this is peace, which we'll talk about in little bit. But this righteousness is from Jesus. And verse 9 of Romans 5. Much more then, because we have now been been declared righteousness by his blood. Jeff: We could read several the original. Therefore, this is Romans 5 1. Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So this is peace, which we'll talk about in little bit. But this righteousness is from Jesus. And verse nine of Romans five. Much more then, because we have now been been declared righteousness by his blood. We will be saved through him from God's wrath. The blood of Jesus Christ speaks better promises than Abel's blood. That's a Hebrews. the Hebrew writer talks about that. It speaks for us. His righteousness, his blood speaks righteousness on our behalf. It says, This blood was spilt for us. And then Randy: We will be saved through him from God's wrath. The blood of Jesus Christ speaks better promises than Abel's blood. That's a Hebrews, the Hebrew writer talks about that. It speaks for us. His righteous, his blood speaks righteousness on our behalf. It says, This blood was spilt for us. And then Let's go to seventeen of Romans five. For if by the transgression of the one man death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ? Again, righteousness is a gift. It's his righteousness. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Matthew six, it doesn't say seek our own. Right? This this protects us in so many different ways, but we stand before our Father. Jeff: Let's go to seventeen of Romans five. Randy: in full righteousness, in full right standing because of what Jesus Christ has done. It is not the breastplate of our own righteousness. So what strategy does this kind of hint at? Well it hints at a couple things. It hints at what the lies you talked about for one about the lies against who we are. We're not really holy, in this case righteous. The accusation or the temptation or the strategy is against accusation. Jeff: in full righteousness in full right standing because of what Jesus Christ has done. It is not the breastplate of our own righteousness. So what strategy does this kind of hint at? Well it hints at a couple things. It hints at what the lies you talked about for one about the lies against who we are. We're not really holy in this case righteous. The accusation or the temptation or the strategy is against accusation. Randy: Because the accusations sound right. If I look at my resume, his accusations are actually very correct. But if I look at my inheritance, if I looked at the gifts been given, if I looked at me as a new creation, not at my past, at my resume, I am right before him. But the accusations will try to tell me I'm not right before him. Yep. And and so he accuses us to ourselves first and then he accuses us before God. Jeff: Because the accusations sound right. Randy: We'll look at an example that here in just second. But it's funny, he tempts us to sin, and then when we give in, then he accuses us before our father and accuses us to ourselves. The word Satan literally means adversary or accuser. The transliter it's a transliteration of a Greek word that means one line in ambush. in in Revelation twelve ten, Satan is called the accuser of the brethren. That's where we I use that word a lot. Jeff: We'll look at an example that here in just second. But it's funny, he tempts us to sin, and then when we give in, then he accuses us before our father and accuses us to ourselves. The transliter it's a transliteration of a Greek word that means one line in ambush. in in Revelation twelve ten, Satan is called the accuser of the brethren. That's where we I use that word a lot. because it gives it it helps us understand his strategy. Okay. Randy: because it gives it it helps us understand his strategy. Okay. Flip over to Romans eight, thirty three, thirty four. Let's see what that has to say. I'm gonna read or do Romans one eight one. Well, you're there. Read Romans eight one. Eight one. Yeah. Okay. Jeff: Flip over to Romans 8, 33, 34. Let's see what that has to say. I'm gonna read or do Romans one eight, one. While you're there, read Romans eight, one. Eight, one. Yeah. Okay. There is, therefore, now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. All right. We need to know the truth. We need to know we're righteous. There is no condemnation. There w there has been condemnation. Randy: There is, therefore, now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. All right. We need to know the truth. We need to know we're righteous. There is no condemnation. There w there has been condemnation. His name was Jesus. He was condemned on my behalf. The condemnation that I deserve, Jesus took. Now read 33 through 34 in Romans eight. Jeff: His name was Jesus. He was condemned on my behalf. The condemnation that I deserve, Jesus took. Now read 33 through 34 in Romans 8. Randy: Who will bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died. And more than that, he was raised, who is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. So what's that tell us? God doesn't bring accusations, God doesn't bring condemnation. He's saying, Why would he accuse you? He's the one that freed you. Why would he condemn you? He's the one that took his wrath upon himself. So Jeff: Who will bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is the one who will condemn? Christ is the one who died. And more than that, he was raised, who is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. So what's that tell us? God doesn't bring accusations, God doesn't bring condemnation. He's saying, Why would he accuse you? He's the one that freed you. Why would he condemn you? He's the one that took his wrath upon himself. So Randy: What's the truth? The truth is that if we're sensing accusation, if we're sensing condemnation, if we're sensing guilt, if we're sensing shame, that's all coming from the kingdom of darkness, not from the kingdom of light, and we are in fact still that's a lie that we're tempted to believe about our identity, about our righteousness, okay? Jeff: What's the truth? The truth is that if we're sensing accusation, if we're sensing condemnation, if we're sensing guilt, if we're sensing shame, that's all coming from the kingdom of darkness, not from the kingdom of light, and we are in fact still that's a lie that we're tempted to believe about our identity, about our righteousness, okay? Randy: It's things like you don't deserve to go into there. Don't you ha you need to hide for right. Well, you just messed up. You can't go up before the throne room. Nope. All that's under the blood of Jesus. I come walking in into the throne room in the righteousness of of Jesus Christ. Here's our bet or defense. Flip over and we'll do this once and then we'll just if I do it come I might come back to it again. But second Corinthians five twenty one. Jeff: It's things like you don't deserve to go into there. Randy: Great exchange. The great exchange. It's a verse that I memorized a long, long time ago, and I use it a lot in spiritual warfare in the in the battlefield of the mind. Second Corinthians 5 21. God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God. We are truly the righteousness of God. Because he the one who did not know sin was made sin. And his wrath was poured out on God's wrath, all of it was poured out on Jesus Christ. Jeff: Great exchange. The great exchange. It's a verse that I memorized a long, long time ago, and I use it a lot in spiritual warfare in the in the battlefield of the mind. Second Corinthians five twenty one. God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God. We are truly the righteous of God. Because he the one who did not know sin was made sin. And his wrath was poured out on God's wrath, all of it was poured out on Jesus Christ. Randy: Let that sink in for a minute. Yeah. It would be, we'll talk about this minute. I'm getting ahead of myself. It would be unjust for God to pour his wrath out on you because he's already poured it out for my sin, already poured it out on my sin. Yeah. It was on Christ. Let's go look at a old testament example, a picture of spiritual warfare in the regard of our righteousness. Go to Zechariah three. Jeff: Let that sink in for a minute. Randy: One through five. Okay. Next I saw Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, with Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, May the Lord rebuke you, Satan. May the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Isn't this man like a burning stick snatched from the fire? Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes, and as he stood there before the angel, the angel spoke up to those standing around Jeff: One through five. Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes, and as he stood there before the angel, the angel spoke up to those standing around Randy: Remove his filthy clothes. Then he said to Joshua, I have freely forgiven your iniquity and will dress you in fine clothing. Then I spoke up, let a clean turban be put on his head. So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood nearby. Okay. Zechariah is a minor prophet. He was riding in the times of after Ezra and Nehemiah, after the the wall in Jerusalem had been rebuilt, after the bo Babylonian Jeff: Remove his filthy clothes. He was riding in the times of after Ezra and Nehemiah, after the the wall in Jerusalem had been rebuilt, after the bo Babylonian Randy: exile and then a remnant came back. That's Ezra and Nehemiah's story. And Zechariah overlapped with them. And now he's talking there is the the king or the governor is a Rebabel. There's a great story in there in Zechariah about that. But this is Joshua the high priest. So he's a high priest in a rebuilt temple that had been ransacked by the Babylonians and been left bare for seventy years. Jeff: exile and then a remnant came back. And now this is a picture. We're see a picture in heaven of Joshua. It says, then he showed me. So is this Zachariah seeing a vision of his high priest? it says, Sh then he showed me Joshua the high priest, stand before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. In that awesome I mean, not awesome, but awesome as in big and crazy t to try to think that here is the high priest of Israel standing before God Almighty. Randy: And now this is a picture, we see a picture in heaven of Joshua. Says then he showed me. So is this Zachariah seeing a vision of his high priest? he says sh then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. In that awesome I mean, not awesome, but awesome as in big and crazy to to try to think that here is the high priest of Israel standing before God Almighty. And right there beside him is Satan to accuse. That's amazing to me. we we we would think, well, no, this is this won't happen. A little bit about the process, because in a minute he's gonna be seeing well, he's he's covered in. Well, I'll cover that in a minute. I don't want to get a hold of myself. But he's before there. But Joshua is before the Lord. Where is he supposed to be? Before the Lord. Is he doing what he's supposed to be? Yes. Is he following God's law? Yes. Jeff: And right there beside him is Satan to accuse. Yes. Randy: But i is he doing right? Yes. But there's this but Satan is still there to accuse. that that's amazing to me. Here's a quick aside. All through the old t Old Testament, God dealt with Israel based on the status of their high priest. If their high priest was acceptable, then the nation was acceptable. The good news for us is our high priest is Jesus Christ, and he has been found acceptable, right? Jeff: But i is he doing right? Yes. But there's this, but Satan is still there to accuse. that that's amazing to me. Here's a quick aside. All through the old te old testament, God dealt with Israel based on the status of their high priest. If their high priest was acceptable, then the nation was acceptable. The good news for us is our high priest is Jesus Christ, and he has been found acceptable, right? Randy: You know, freedom if you go back and read about the the cities that if somebody committed a crime they could run to these these cities to be and and you couldn't they couldn't be punished in these cities. And he was there and he had to stay in that city to avoid the punishment of manslaughter. He had to avoid that for his manslaughter, he had to avoid that stay there to avoid that until the high priest died, and then he was free. Jeff: You know, freedom if you go back and read about the the cities that if somebody committed a crime they could run to these these cities to be and and you couldn't they couldn't be punished in these cities. And he was there and he had to stay in that city to avoid the punishment of manslaughter. He had to avoid that for his manslaughter, he had to avoid that stay there to avoid that until the high priest died, and then he was free. Randy: Well, guess what? Our h our high priest died. Jeff: Guess what? Our our high priest died. So we are in fact free. Now he lives as also, which is awesome. Of course. But so here we have this high priest of Israel standing before the Lord with Satan to accuse. Randy: So we are in fact free. Now he lives as also, which is awesome. Of course. But so here we have this high priest of Israel standing before the Lord with Satan to accuse. And here's what we find out about. And the Lord said to Satan, the Lord rebuke you, Satan. Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. And this is this not a brand plucked from the fire? Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. As people read this in the Old Testament Jews, they would have gasped at verse three. Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. This is a picture of Joshua's unrighteousness. Jeff: And here's what we find out about. Randy: His filthy robe, our clean white robes are always a picture of righteousness. So he's standing before him filthy. Here's the thing. On the Day of Atonement, the once a year that the high priest himself and only the high priest and always of blood would go back into the furthest depths of the temple, into the Holy of Holies. Before he did that, he would bathe in public so that everybody could watch him, because they didn't want him to miss a spot. Jeff: His filthy robe, our clean white robes are always a picture of righteousness. Randy: Because if he was not accepted, they were not accepted. Jeff: Because if he was not accepted, they were not accepted. In tradition Randy: In tradition, or rabbis will tell us that he did it three times. He went he would get totally bathed, he would put on full white garments, and he would carry blood in there, and it that was for himself. Then he would do start and he would come out and he'd do the whole process again, and he would go in, and that's for the Levites and the priest. And then he would come out, he would do it all over again, and he would go back in with blood again for the people of Israel. So three times he would enter, three times the people would watch him. Jeff: Rabbis will tell us that he did it three times. He went, he would get totally bathed, he would put on full white garments, and he would carry blood in there, and it that was for himself. Then he would do start and he would come out and he'd do the whole process again, and he would go in, and that's for the Levites and the priest. And then he would come out, he would do it all over again, and he would go back in with blood again for the people of Israel. So three times he would enter, three times the people would watch him bathe and watch him. Randy: bathe and watch him put on fresh, brand new, never worn clothes before. Clean as and white. And they were they were there. They were they were the ones inspecting the the Jeff: put on fresh, brand new, never worn clothes before, clean as and white, and they were they were there. They were they were the ones inspecting to the that make sure he did it correctly, the highest priest, because his acceptance or their acceptance depended on his acceptance. So to for him to show up before the Lord with in filthy garments, they would have like they would have they would have freaked out. Randy: That makes sure he did it correctly, the highest priest, because his acceptance or their acceptance depended on his acceptance. So to for him to show up before the Lord with in filthy garments, they would have like that, they would have they would have freaked out. But here's a question: Is it is this accusation of the sa of devil of Satan true? It is true. But not for long. Because the Lord's going to fix that after the transformation. So then in verse. Jeff: But here's a question. Is it is this accusation of the sa of devil of Satan true? It is true. But not for long, because the Lord's going to fix that after the transformation. So then in verse 4, and he spoke and said to those who were standing before him, remove the filthy garments from him. Again he said to him, See, I have taken your iniquity away from you, Randy: For and he spoke and said to those who were standing before him, remove the filthy garments from him. Again he said to him, See, I have taken your iniquity away from you, Jeff: and Randy: and will clothe you with festival robes. So in other words, the iniquity and the dirty robes. That's how we get the interpretation of that. And now he's going to put on a righteous robe. So Jeff: And will clothe you with festival robes. So in other words, the iniquity and the dirty robes. That's how we get the interpretation of that. And now he's going to put on a righteous robe. So Randy: he ordered him clean garments. Jeff: He ordered him clean garments. Said, then I said, I love this. Zechariah sitting there watching, and he can't keep quiet. Let him put a turban on his head. He's saying, Hey, complete the whole outfit. And so they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments while the angel of the Lord was standing by. So these these these people of the Lord that were working were were changing out his old clothing and his dirty clothing. Randy: So then I said, I love this. Zechariah is sitting there watching and he can't keep quiet. Let him put a turban on his head. He's saying, Hey, complete the whole outfit. And so they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments while the angel of the Lord was standing by. So these these these people of the Lord that were working were were changing out his old clothing and his dirty clothing. So there he is in full up clean garments. It's it's a picture of what we just read in 2 Corinthians 5 1, where where they take off the filthy garments that and Jesus puts them on. That's what we don't see here, is they take them off of us, off of Israel's high priest and put on the real high priest. And where Jesus' clothes are are white and clean, Joshua gets to put those on. And he is now truly righteous. Jeff: So there he is in full up clean garments. Randy: Keep in mind, God did not do this unjustly. He couldn't just say, Hey, let's just give him clean clothes. Let's just make him righteousness. Satan, keep in mind, Jeff: Keep in mind, God did not do this unjustly. He couldn't just say, Hey, let's just give him clean clothes. Let's just make him righteousness. Satan, keep in mind, our world or all of creation is centered on legalities, on rules, on God's law. So God himself won't break his law. Randy: our world or all of creation is centered on legalities, on rules, on God's law. So God himself won't break his law. But to Satan, his accuser of brethren, is is one who's constantly looking for the law to be broken. And he's gonna raise the objection in the court of heaven if Jesus or God was not to do this justly, but he did it. He did it by pouring out all of his wrath on on sin. Jeff: But to Satan, his accuser or brethren is is one who's constantly looking for the law to be broken. And he's going to raise the objection in the court of heaven if Jesus or God was not to do this justly, but he did it. He did it by pouring out all of his wrath on on sin. That's again seconds five twenty one, a picture of Jesus becoming sin, and then he took the wrath that we Randy: That's again second Corinthians five twenty one, a picture of Jesus becoming sin and then he took the wrath that we did it. so I mean that we deserved. What a cool picture. Yeah, what a cool picture. And Zachariah shows it to us there, right? So now at the end of this, the accusations are now false. Yeah. The objections that Satan has made have been put down. Nope. He's he's he's righteous. Because Jeff: so I mean that we deserved. What a cool picture. Yeah, what a cool picture. And Zachariah shows it to us there, right? So now at the end of this, the accusations are now false. Yeah. The objections that Satan has made have been put down. Nope. He's he's he's righteous. 'Cause Randy: Satan is saying he doesn't deserve to be here. He can't be here before you. And you can't listen to him. He has no right to be here. And you cannot answer his prayers. You cannot bless him. You cannot, you cannot, you cannot. And God says, Nope, I can because I have condemned Jesus in his place. And he puts his queen white robe on him. And now all of Satan's objectives are false. Jeff: Satan is saying he doesn't deserve to be here. Randy: All his accusations are false. And that's what I'm bringing out to us. There is a transformation. You were a sinner and you were guilty and you were shameful. But if you have now put your trust in Jesus Christ, you are now wearing robes of white. You are righteous. You are in a right standing before God. Not because of anything you did, but because everything that He did. And you now come boldly before the throne of grace. And now you can take those accusations and go, nope. Yeah. That didn't line up with the obedience of Christ, second Corinthians 10. Jeff: All his accusations are false. Randy: Nope. Go. And now you can walk in full righteousness, full sonship, full daughtership, the full ability to to come before the Father and to live every moment before the Father. And and the accusations are now false. we have some verses here. Jeff: Nope. Go. And now you can walk in full righteousness, full sonship, full daughtership, the full ability to to come before the Father and to live every moment before the Father. And and the accusations are now false. we have some verses here. Randy: I do have more. go to Revelations twelve ten. Twelve ten. Jeff: I do have more. go to Revelations twelve ten. Twelve ten. Randy: Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the ruling authority of his Christ have now come, because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, the one who accuses them day and night before our God, has been thrown down. Okay. Accusations, where do they come from? They come from the accuser of the brethren, and that's him. That's him. 1210. We already read Romans 8, 33, and 34. That tells us where they don't come from. Jeff: Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the ruling authority of his Christ have now come, because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, the one who accuses them day and night before our God, has been thrown down. Okay. Accusations, where do they come from? They come from the accuser of the brethren, and that's him. That's him. 1210. We already read Romans 8, 33, and 34. That tells us where they don't come from. Randy: Yeah. So Revelation twelve ten tells us where condemnation, guilt, shame, and accusation come from. Romans eight, thirty-three, thirty-four tells them where they don't come from. They don't come from God. Okay? Yep. So that's the we we we're not done yet. But that is a good picture of the of our righteousness, and that it is not based on us. It's based on Jesus and it is Jeff: Yeah. So Revelations twelve ten tells us where condemnation, guilt, shame, and accusation come from. Romans eight, thirty three, thirty four tells them where they don't come from. They don't come from God. Okay? Yep. So that's the we we we're not done yet. But that is a good picture of the of our righteousness and that it is not based on us. It's based on Jesus and it is Randy: Let's let's go to s Colossians two. We're gonna read one more section and then we'll be done with this and then we'll Jeff: Let's let's go to s Colossians two. We're gonna read one more section and then we'll be done with this and then we'll Colossians two. Colossians two, verses thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen. Okay. Randy: Colossus two, verses thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen. Okay. And even though you were dead in your transgressions, and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless made you alive with him, having forgiven all your transgressions. He destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross, disarming the rulers and authorities. He has made a public disgrace of them, triumphing the over them by the cross. All right. This is another great Jeff: And even though you were dead in your transgressions, and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he nevertheless made you alive with him, having forgiven all your transgressions. He destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross, disarming the rulers and authorities. He has made a public disgrace of them, triumphing the over them by the cross. All right. This is another great Randy: Verse to have memorized and to understand. This one is just like, Yeah. first of all, verse thirteen. I just threw it in because we had to, not because we had to, because you can't read it. But I mean, my point's gonna be in fourteen, fifteen. But we have been made alive and forgiven all our sins. let that sink in for a minute. Yeah. Jeff: Yeah. first of all, verse thirteen. I just threw it in because we had to, not because we had to, because you can't read it. But I mean, my point's gonna be in fourteen, fifteen. But we have been made alive and forgiven all our sins. let that sink in for a minute. Yeah. Randy: I know we've had people listen to podcasts and get back to us and go and they've never really thought of themselves as being forgiven. These are followers of Jesus Christ. Yeah. They never thought of themselves as being forgiven of all sin. Right. And at that on that podcast I think we gave ten or twelve verses for forgiven, ten or twelve verses for righteousness, and ten or twelve verses for holiness. I forget. but I th so that's I th I know we gave over thirty verses in that section just trying to prove to to people the word is clear. Jeff: I know we've had people listen to the podcast and get back to us and go and they've never really thought of themselves as being forgiven. These are followers of Jesus Christ. Yeah. They never thought of themselves as being forgiven of all sin. Right. And at that on that podcast I think we gave ten or twelve verses for forgiven, ten or twelve verses for righteousness, and ten or twelve verses for holiness. I forget. but I th so that's I th I know we gave over thirty verses in that section just trying to prove to ov to people the word is clear. Randy: This is one of them we looked up that day, but we used to be dead in our transgressions, and now we've been made alive and forgiven. Okay, we're not dead anymore. We're not sinners anymore. We're not weak anymore. We're none of those things we used to be because the gospel has power to change us, and much of it changes instantaneously. Jeff: This is one of them we looked up that day, but we used to be dead in our transgressions, and now we've been made alive and forgiven. Okay, we're not dead anymore. We're not sinners anymore. We're not weak anymore. We're none of those things we used to be because the gospel has power to change us, and much of it changes instantaneously. And then we have to renew our mind and train our body to that truth. Yep. Randy: And then we have to renew our mind and train our body to that truth. Yep. Okay. Jeff: Okay, but but all of your transgressions, you've been made alive to God and He's forgiven all your transgressions. That's worth the price of admission right there. Yep. All right, but the point I want to get to the the legalities and the ideas of how we Randy: But but all of your transgressions, you've been made alive to God and He's forgiven all your transgressions. That's worth the price of admission right there. Yep. All right, but the point I want to get to the the legalities and the ideas of how we how this armor works, this this righteousness if you first fourteen says, He was he has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross. Here's my point. I wanna bring out I mean, not I I say that a lot. Jeff: how this armor works, this this righteousness if you first fourteen says, He was he has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross. Here's my point. I wanna bring out I mean, not I I say that a lot. Randy: Here's what verse 14 says. There, in fact, used to be a certificate of indebtedness. It was written down. It was a document. Sorry, say a piece of paper. I'm not sure it's a piece of paper. But it was a document that held you, that said you belong to Satan. It is the thing that he holds people by, is their guilt. That's how he enslaves them. That's how he legally enslaves them. That's how they are. Jeff: Here's what verse 14 says. Randy: that he is legally their master is from the certificate of an indebtedness. That's how he owns lost people. Jeff: that he is legally their master is from the certificate of an indebtedness. That's how he owns lost people. Randy: And and now it put another word, it is the evidence. It's the evidence that gets you this certificate of indebtedness, and therefore you belong to him. And guess what? It was destroyed at the cross. Yeah. It's gone. Yeah. It was destroyed at the cross of Christ. Jesus, because of his love for you, took care of it. Yeah. You were owned by your master, Satan. Jeff: And and now it put another word, it is the evidence. Randy: And now you have been set free, and now you're free to serve your master, Jesus. I put here, not only are we forgiven, but there is no longer any legal evidence of our having sinned. It was destroyed. Let that let me read that again. Not only are we forgiven, but there is no longer any legal evidence of our having sinned. Jeff: And now you have been set free, and now you're free to serve your master, Jesus. I put here, not only are we forgiven, but there is no longer any legal evidence of our having sinned. It was destroyed. Let that let me read that again. Not only are we forgiven, but there is no longer any legal evidence of our having sinned. Randy: Show me where it's written. Yeah. Woo. Show me where it's written. Yeah. I was about to tell that story. But Jeff: Show me where it's written. Yeah. Woo. Show me where it's written. Yeah. I was about to tell that story. But Randy: Have I already told it on this on this podcast? I think last week. Yeah, show me where it's written. A couple weeks ago. Yeah. And you know, the short thing is you walk in from your squadron and you did something in your fighter jet and they go, I don't think you can do that. And you go, show me where it's written. Yeah. If they can't show you where it's written, well, guess what? I can do that. Yeah. Then they're gonna write it in there. Then they're gonna write it in. Change one. Yeah, it'll be written next week. But right now it wasn't. Same thing. So when the accuser of their brethren shows up. Jeff: Have I already told it on this on this podcast? I think last week. Yeah, show me where it's written. A couple weeks ago. Yeah. And you know, the short thing is you walk in from your squadron and you did something in your fighter jet and they go, I don't think you can do that. And you go, show me where it's written. Yeah. If they can't show you where it's written, well, guess what? I can do that. Yeah. Then they're gonna write it in there. Then they're gonna write it in. Change one. Yeah, it'll be written next week. But right now it wasn't. Same thing. So when the accuser of their brethren shows up. Randy: And he starts banging on your breast plate of righteousness, dude. Where is it written? Show me. Right. you don't have any evidence. Mm-hmm. And we work by legalities. We work according to God's laws. Right. So if you're gonna convict me according to God's laws, you need evidence. Show me the evidence. Right. you don't have it. Because it was destroyed at the cross. Right. Jeff: And he starts banging on your breast plate of righteousness, dude. Right. Randy: and he put them to shame. I love that part. This is the part. This is extra. You don't have to pay for pay for this. He disgraced them. Yeah. Triumphing over them by the cross. They were the ones that was driving the crowd. They were the ones that were driving the Pharisees. They were one that causing Pilate to to give in. These demonic enemies were the ones that were driving him to the cross to make it happen. Now he gave up his life, but Satan also took his life through men. Jeff: and he put them to shame. Randy: And it's like bringing your own rope to your own hanging, right? I mean he was he was disgraced because it was through the cross, through his doing, through his hands, by the hands of the people under control of Satan. Jeff: And it's like bringing your own rope to your own hanging, right? I mean he was he was disgraced because it was through the cross, through his doing, through his hands, by the hands of the people under control of Satan. Randy: He destroyed himself. Himself. He destroyed. He defeated himself. He destroyed the only thing he had over mankind. Yeah. Over you and I. Yeah. It's been dis disarmed. I put here, our guilt armed them, and now our guiltlessness disarms them. Jeff: He destroyed himself. Himself. He destroyed. He defeated himself. He destroyed the only thing he had over mankind. Yeah. Over you and I. Yeah. It's been dis disarmed. I put here, our guilt armed them, and now our guiltlessness disarms them. Randy: The accusations used to be valid, but now they are no more. Yep. Jeff: The accusations used to be valid, but now they are no more. Yep. Randy: Don't get caught in the idea that those accusations are valid. Yep. That's a before the cross thinking. After the cross, all things have been made new and we have been set free. And those accusations are now invalid. Just like Zachariah seeing the high priest Joshua. The accusations were correct. Once he was changed, now the accusations are false. Yeah. Jeff: Don't get caught in the idea that those accusations are valid. Yep. That's a before the cross thinking. After the cross, all things have been made new and we have been set free. And those accusations are now invalid. Just like Zechariah seeing the high priest Joshua. The accusations were correct. Once he was changed, now the accusations are false. Yeah. Randy: One thing you can do, and we're not going to do here, is go to your Bible, your electronic version would be the quickest way to do this, and just plug in righteousness and then go go read all the promises through the Old Testament, through the Psalms and through the Proverbs, and then on into the New Testament. Read all the promises and the privileges that are won and are for a righteous person. And those all belong to you now. Yeah. Jeff: One thing you can do, and we're not going to do here, is go to your Bible, your electronic version would be the quickest way to do this, and just plug in righteousness and then go go read all the promises through the Old Testament, through the Psalms and through the Proverbs, and then on into the New Testament. Read all the promises and the privileges that are won and are for a righteous person. And those all belong to you now. Yeah. Randy: Not because we earned them. Not because we earned them, but because Jesus earned them on our behalf. On our behalf. Yeah. 'Cause that's how he wants us to be. Yeah. Free, righteous, and then the benefits that come with those. Yeah. Jeff: Not because we earned them. Not because we earned them, but because Jesus earned them on our behalf. On our behalf. Yeah. 'Cause that's how he wants us to be. Yeah. Free, righteous, and then the benefits that come with those. Yeah. Randy: He didn't do it begrudgingly, right? Just like you said. Yeah. He wants you free. Yeah. I that's what we we've talked about this before. Greg's five one says he set you free for freedom's sake. He set you free 'cause that's what he wanted. He set you free because it it was the right thing to do. He didn't set you free so that now you can do this or that or now you have to do this and go back into bondage. No. Yeah. Jeff: He didn't do it begrudgingly, right? Just like you said. Yeah. He wants you free. Yeah. I that's what we we've talked about this before. Greg since five one says he set you free for freedom's sake. He set you free because that's what he wanted. He set you free because it it was the right thing to do. He didn't set you free so that now you can do this or that or now you have to do this and go back into bondage. No. Yeah.
