- 0:31Speaker 2: All right, just a heart open here. Welcome to Tuesday's
- 0:37Speaker 2: edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We are here at Jillette Stadium.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Patriots had their second day of full pads practice.
- 0:43Speaker 4: It's in the books.
- 0:45Speaker 2: We'll be joined later on in the show by Caius Tanga,
- 0:48Speaker 2: who stopped by right after practice and sat down with
- 0:51Speaker 2: Paul and I. But let's get right to it. It's
- 0:54Speaker 2: Mike Dussa, Evan Lazar, Paul Prolo, myself Alex is in
- 0:57Speaker 2: the booth today and let's talk about what we saw.
- 1:01Speaker 5: I thought it was a good day for the defense,
- 1:03Speaker 5: not the best day that we've seen from camp. From
- 1:05Speaker 5: the offense in Drake, I thought it wasn't really about
- 1:08Speaker 5: the pressure. To me, it was felt like Drake was
- 1:10Speaker 5: a little off, not his best practice, and it felt
- 1:12Speaker 5: like a lot of the coverage was really good on
- 1:14Speaker 5: the receivers, which was surprised and considering that Christian Zalez,
- 1:18Speaker 5: you know, and Carlton Davis were not at practice, you
- 1:20Speaker 5: thought maybe they'd be able to take advantage of some
- 1:22Speaker 5: of those guys down the depth chart playing at cornerback,
- 1:24Speaker 5: but not really seem like the offense was stumbling a
- 1:26Speaker 5: little bit. They did have their moments in the red zone.
- 1:28Speaker 5: They were a handful of plays that they made well,
- 1:30Speaker 5: but overall defense one the day.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I would agree with Mike.
- 1:35Speaker 3: You know, it was a lot of red zone work,
- 1:37Speaker 3: so that does make some of the windows obviously tighter
- 1:39Speaker 3: and a little bit more difficult.
- 1:41Speaker 6: But I thought he had some opportunities.
- 1:42Speaker 3: May you know, one in particular that really stood out
- 1:45Speaker 3: was a throw that I thought he just sort of
- 1:48Speaker 3: led too far a Hunter Henry in the back corner
- 1:51Speaker 3: of the end zone.
- 1:52Speaker 6: You know, it wasn't without some highlight throws too.
- 1:55Speaker 2: You had a really nice throw to what Diggs, he
- 1:57Speaker 2: threw him open. Then he threw one in the bucket
- 1:59Speaker 2: the Kyle Williams in the end zone, which was a
- 2:02Speaker 2: really nice pass.
- 2:03Speaker 4: So you know, there was some good place too.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And in fairness to me, I thought the receivers had
- 2:08Speaker 3: some opportunities to make some place for him. That didn't
- 2:11Speaker 3: Williams being one of them, I thought failed to to catch.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I thought, a, you know, a pretty accurate throw. The
- 2:17Speaker 3: one to Booty really stood out to me. It was
- 2:20Speaker 3: kind of layered in between the coverage on the sideline.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Good throw, really, really top notch throw for may. I
- 2:26Speaker 3: thought Booty was pretty active today.
- 2:27Speaker 7: A couple of.
- 2:28Speaker 6: Good run he was targeted more.
- 2:29Speaker 3: He had a great block by sorry, Booty had a
- 2:33Speaker 3: great block on a toss suite to Stevenson on one
- 2:35Speaker 3: of those red zone places cracked up.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Well, he sprung the guy for a touchdown. So it
- 2:41Speaker 6: was nice run.
- 2:41Speaker 8: Yeah, that one was a good one, A nice toss
- 2:44Speaker 8: play and to Campbell's side, seal the edge and we
- 2:48Speaker 8: had I think Jack Westover was out in front of
- 2:50Speaker 8: that one as well. But I agree with the guys.
- 2:52Speaker 8: I think it was controlled by the defense for the
- 2:54Speaker 8: most part.
- 2:55Speaker 7: But I think it should be.
- 2:56Speaker 8: When you're down in the tight red zone, you're inside
- 2:58Speaker 8: the ten yard line trying to throw the ball into
- 3:00Speaker 8: the end zone, usually those types of practices favor the
- 3:03Speaker 8: defense in that situation. So again, you take the four
- 3:07Speaker 8: or five throws that he made that were highlights, and
- 3:10Speaker 8: you can put that on a highlight reel and say
- 3:12Speaker 8: he looked great, or you could say, you know, he
- 3:14Speaker 8: had I think he was about fifty percent completion rate,
- 3:17Speaker 8: So there were seven incompletions that you could.
- 3:19Speaker 7: Look at those two.
- 3:20Speaker 8: But I think the biggest thing, just from two days
- 3:23Speaker 8: in pads it I've come away with is that the
- 3:26Speaker 8: two rookie offensive lineman looked like they can play, and
- 3:29Speaker 8: that's a really exciting development for that group. Will Campbell
- 3:32Speaker 8: and Jared Wilson both looked the part so far. And
- 3:35Speaker 8: I thought Jared Wilson was really really good today, especially.
- 3:37Speaker 7: In one on ones.
- 3:38Speaker 4: He was just you know, engaging his guy and just
- 3:42Speaker 4: stoning him.
- 3:43Speaker 9: Yeah whatever.
- 3:43Speaker 8: It was Milton Williams and Christian Barmore too, So we're
- 3:46Speaker 8: not talking about, you know, down the depth chart here
- 3:49Speaker 8: at the defensive tackle position. So my excitement level for
- 3:53Speaker 8: those two guys is out of ten. My concern level
- 3:56Speaker 8: for some of the veteran players that they brought in
- 3:58Speaker 8: in free agency is maybe getting a little bit higher.
- 4:01Speaker 8: You know, Morgan Moses left practice today with something and
- 4:04Speaker 8: I don't think he's looked great. Milton Williams at times
- 4:07Speaker 8: hasn't necessarily stood out either, so I'd like to see
- 4:10Speaker 8: a little bit more from those guys. But the rookie
- 4:13Speaker 8: lineman looked terrific so far, So that's exciting.
- 4:16Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I mean I still say, you know, we had tong
- 4:19Speaker 2: in here and he said, you know, we're going full speed.
- 4:21Speaker 2: We're not going to the ground, but we're going full speed.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I just I just still don't think it really is
- 4:27Speaker 2: you know, like you're not up front.
- 4:30Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Really, I think I think they're like they're they're moving
- 4:33Speaker 2: at full speed, but there's not that intention to like
- 4:36Speaker 2: be too violent, you know.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I Cause so I do put.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Evidently you have to temper your enthusiasm.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I put a little caution on all of this
- 4:47Speaker 4: so far. I mean we're two days into pads.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Let's give me the joint practices next week and and
- 4:53Speaker 2: then I think we can start to form more concrete opinions.
- 4:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 8: And I'll say this about Milton Williams. I I don't
- 5:00Speaker 8: think Milan Williams is necessarily a flashy rusher. I think
- 5:04Speaker 8: his go to move his speed to power and I
- 5:07Speaker 8: don't know if like that type of stuff is really
- 5:09Speaker 8: He's not like one of these defensive tackles that's like
- 5:11Speaker 8: spinning and ripping and doing all these crazy moves all
- 5:14Speaker 8: the time, Like that's not really his game. So I
- 5:16Speaker 8: kind of look at him as more of like a
- 5:18Speaker 8: game player than a practice player. And I'm not like
- 5:20Speaker 8: concerned of that Melon Williams is going to be a
- 5:23Speaker 8: buster or anything like that.
- 5:24Speaker 7: Moses, though, it worries me.
- 5:25Speaker 8: Like he's thirty four years old, he's coming off a
- 5:28Speaker 8: major knee injury from last season that he played through,
- 5:31Speaker 8: and he's been in and out and he hasn't looked
- 5:33Speaker 8: great when he's been in. So it's just something that's
- 5:35Speaker 8: on my radar. And you know, Deuces guy Trey Jacobs
- 5:38Speaker 8: is taking a lot of those reps at right tackle
- 5:40Speaker 8: when Moses isn't there, so they don't really have a
- 5:43Speaker 8: great solution to that problem if it's not Morgan Moses.
- 5:46Speaker 7: So it's just something to monitor.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I was going up the elevator with one of Paul's guys.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I won't mention his name, but he's like worried about
- 5:53Speaker 2: our left tackle, very concerned, very concerned, and this is
- 5:58Speaker 2: before practice, and I was like, okay, I said, he's
- 6:01Speaker 2: gonna be fine.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know.
- 6:04Speaker 7: It's like I mean, this is shaping up to me
- 6:06Speaker 7: right now.
- 6:06Speaker 5: I think I might have bigger questions about the center
- 6:08Speaker 5: and left guard position than I do about the tackles.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Not to say I don't have questions about the right
- 6:12Speaker 5: tackle position for sure, but we've gotten to a point now,
- 6:15Speaker 5: right now where I'm like, jeez, I hope Bill Campbell
- 6:17Speaker 5: is good and can provide some kind of stability because
- 6:19Speaker 5: right now, I don't know what the season long answer
- 6:22Speaker 5: is at center at les so far.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Like I've seen one rep in one on ones where
- 6:28Speaker 2: Keon White beat him.
- 6:29Speaker 4: That was yesterday. Today he looked fine.
- 6:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean he won both his reps today. I
- 6:34Speaker 8: should mention one against Keon, one against Chase On. Chason
- 6:38Speaker 8: got him a couple of times, and one early one
- 6:41Speaker 8: late in sort of more team periods. But I think
- 6:45Speaker 8: what you're seeing from Campbell's what I expected. He's already,
- 6:48Speaker 8: in my mind, a really good run blocker, Like I
- 6:51Speaker 8: think he's going to be a great run blocker right
- 6:53Speaker 8: out of the gate. The pass protection, I think it's
- 6:55Speaker 8: more about adjusting to his limitations and how that's going
- 6:59Speaker 8: to work at this level, and how he's going to
- 7:01Speaker 8: protect against his length and all that kind of stuff
- 7:04Speaker 8: and sort of learning how to keep guys out of
- 7:07Speaker 8: his frame and keep guys especially that are speed rushers
- 7:10Speaker 8: that can turn the corner tightly like a chase on, Like,
- 7:13Speaker 8: how do I get out to those guys without compromising
- 7:16Speaker 8: the inside?
- 7:16Speaker 2: Ye, he's got to rely on his athleticism in his
- 7:19Speaker 2: quick feet.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Yeah, right, So how can you know he set out
- 7:22Speaker 8: to get his hands on a chase on when he
- 7:25Speaker 8: chase on speed rushes off the edge. But then you
- 7:27Speaker 8: don't want to open the inside and lose your leverage,
- 7:29Speaker 8: So you have to kind of find that sweet spot
- 7:32Speaker 8: that he's sort of still working on, I would say.
- 7:35Speaker 8: But like I said, Wilson and Campbell really excite me. Like,
- 7:39Speaker 8: I think those two guys are headed in the great
- 7:42Speaker 8: direction right now. If anybody on the line worries me,
- 7:44Speaker 8: it's right tackle. Like, I think they'll figure out the interior.
- 7:47Speaker 8: And I think Campbell's gonna be fine. But overall, I
- 7:51Speaker 8: this practice was more about the passing offense than it
- 7:54Speaker 8: was about the line. I didn't think the line was
- 7:56Speaker 8: a problem today, and I thought it was more about
- 7:58Speaker 8: the receivers and the quarterback.
- 8:00Speaker 5: And I just pull on the threat on chase on
- 8:02Speaker 5: focus on him. I think he's been a really nice surprise.
- 8:04Speaker 5: I talked a lot about my concerns on you know,
- 8:07Speaker 5: the edge guys and the leadership he's brought, the way
- 8:10Speaker 5: he was answering questions the other day, seen some of
- 8:12Speaker 5: the veteran mentorships. I'm working with Trade Jacobs a little
- 8:15Speaker 5: bit on the field after practice.
- 8:17Speaker 7: I think he's poised to have a really good season.
- 8:19Speaker 5: It seems like the vrabel was asked about him a
- 8:21Speaker 5: couple of days ago, and you know, first round pick
- 8:24Speaker 5: never really lived up to it in Jacksonville, had a
- 8:26Speaker 5: pretty good year last year in Vegas.
- 8:28Speaker 7: So I think he's been a real surprise.
- 8:29Speaker 5: And one other guy I just think we need to
- 8:31Speaker 5: highlight because I've been hard on him, as Javon Baker.
- 8:33Speaker 5: I think he's kind of started to poke his head
- 8:35Speaker 5: out a little bit the last couple of days and
- 8:37Speaker 5: make some plays. It seems like he's earning a few
- 8:40Speaker 5: more opportunities with the upper level reps that he wasn't
- 8:43Speaker 5: necessarily getting a week ago. So he's a guy to
- 8:45Speaker 5: me that is maybe you know, and Javon and Jalen
- 8:48Speaker 5: Polk caught a pass today as well, But I think
- 8:50Speaker 5: Javon Baker maybe making a little bit bit of a push.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Here, which he needs to do. He needs to take
- 8:54Speaker 7: advantage of the opportunities.
- 8:56Speaker 8: Chason has been their best edge rusher. I'd say through
- 8:58Speaker 8: six practices he's been the most noticeable guy winning the
- 9:01Speaker 8: pass rush. Got Campbell with a cross drop today, which
- 9:04Speaker 8: is his go to move, like he's He's looked really
- 9:06Speaker 8: good now. A lot of this is run, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 8: pass heavy practices. He's a pass rusher. You know, that's
- 9:12Speaker 8: his role, so you expect him to be able to
- 9:16Speaker 8: stand out. But I'm gonna do some on that. I
- 9:18Speaker 8: think he's probably been the most noticeable player on defense. Besides,
- 9:21Speaker 8: you know, when Barmore gets in there, Barmore rex the game.
- 9:24Speaker 7: He just takes over. But Barmore is yeah, Cha has
- 9:27Speaker 7: been good. Also worth mentioning too.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Through these practices that it seems the coaching staff is
- 9:31Speaker 5: taking efforts to manage Barmore just a tiny bit.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Now.
- 9:33Speaker 5: He played almost all of it today, which was a
- 9:35Speaker 5: good sign. But you know the earlier days pads he
- 9:37Speaker 5: would come out a little bit more. So I think
- 9:39Speaker 5: they're just being precautious with him and the you know,
- 9:41Speaker 5: the book Cutts thing making sure that that doesn't come back.
- 9:43Speaker 5: But oh my god, Evans right, he's he's he's a
- 9:46Speaker 5: force in the middle. And it makes me you know,
- 9:47Speaker 5: we think we spent so much time focusing on Milton Williams.
- 9:50Speaker 5: It's like if Christian Barmore starts to really get back
- 9:53Speaker 5: to what we thought Christian Barmore could be before last
- 9:55Speaker 5: year and everything got derailed. I mean, he might be
- 9:58Speaker 5: the best player on the whole defense if if he's
- 10:00Speaker 5: able to fully come back.
- 10:01Speaker 7: So it's exciting.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we mentioned Keon White earlier. He seems
- 10:05Speaker 2: a step quicker to me than he was last year.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Not not as stiff, a little bit faster around the edge.
- 10:12Speaker 5: It made me part of the scheme too, of just
- 10:13Speaker 5: going and getting it. Yeah, you know, could be part
- 10:15Speaker 5: of it. And he's a key guy and had my
- 10:17Speaker 5: eye on him a lot. I'm curious how he, you know, translates.
- 10:21Speaker 5: He always looks tough to again an interior rep today,
- 10:23Speaker 5: I forget.
- 10:23Speaker 8: To had a couple against the guard backup guards today
- 10:26Speaker 8: that he just.
- 10:27Speaker 7: Took our lunch money. It was good to see that.
- 10:29Speaker 8: But we know he can rush on the guards like
- 10:31Speaker 8: that's that's a really big strength of his the edge rushing.
- 10:35Speaker 8: He's admitted, openly admitted that he's not as good out there,
- 10:39Speaker 8: you know, outside the tackles. So I think he's looked
- 10:41Speaker 8: okay at times, but you know there's other times where
- 10:44Speaker 8: Campbell's gotten him. But that's been a great one on
- 10:47Speaker 8: one there, like it's been all every practice, it's been
- 10:49Speaker 8: Campbell versus keyon White and iron sharpens iron hopefully, and
- 10:53Speaker 8: those two guys have been going at it.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, But as we said before, I would say, and
- 10:57Speaker 2: I agree with Evan, the biggest person, the person who's
- 10:59Speaker 2: making the biggest push right now is Jared Wilson.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Mean, and they need him to and it's no question
- 11:05Speaker 5: why they're giving him every opportunity because if he can
- 11:07Speaker 5: provide that stability, it's just one of those spots. I mean,
- 11:10Speaker 5: we were talking about it. Maybe it's asking a lot
- 11:13Speaker 5: for a rookie to come in at center being David Andrews,
- 11:16Speaker 5: another Georgia guy, did do it. But still I think
- 11:18Speaker 5: he's got the talent and the athleticism to contribute and
- 11:21Speaker 5: stabilize the way.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I love his athleticism, you know, no question. And then
- 11:25Speaker 3: Bradbury got banged up late in practice, so that's something
- 11:29Speaker 3: to keep an eye on going forward. Bradbury didn't do
- 11:31Speaker 3: the conditioning runs at the end with the rest of
- 11:33Speaker 3: our team, So maybe tomorrow you see Jared Wilson right
- 11:37Speaker 3: from the right from jump.
- 11:38Speaker 8: Okay, Bradbury got stepped on in the pile, so hopefully
- 11:42Speaker 8: it's just that. But with Wilson, I at this point,
- 11:45Speaker 8: if it continues this way with Wilson, I don't know
- 11:47Speaker 8: how he's not starting. I just don't know where. Just
- 11:49Speaker 8: take your lumps alright, Like I I'm not sure if
- 11:52Speaker 8: it's going to be left guard center, but if he
- 11:54Speaker 8: plays this well throughout the entire camp, then he's got
- 11:57Speaker 8: to be starting.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it's really just sorry if I real quick, just yesterday
- 12:00Speaker 5: was really hot. Today was really hot, full pads like
- 12:02Speaker 5: this little trio of practices, guys leaving you say, guys
- 12:06Speaker 5: looking hot afterwards, looking you know, like they're about to collapse.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Really gonna be a challenging practice tomorrow. I think like
- 12:11Speaker 5: mental toughness, and that to me sets a great stage
- 12:15Speaker 5: for Drake. Maybe because a lot of the throws Drake
- 12:17Speaker 5: missed today, I felt like I've seen him make that
- 12:18Speaker 5: throw you know some of them. I just I didn't
- 12:20Speaker 5: really get like, well, it seemed to me a little
- 12:23Speaker 5: bit like he was off and hopefully tomorrow similar conditions
- 12:25Speaker 5: it's hot, hopefully he can bounce back because it's it's
- 12:27Speaker 5: gonna be I think a similar practice script Again, one
- 12:29Speaker 5: of my.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Things with May that I've noticed is it's almost backwards.
- 12:35Speaker 3: He makes his better throw as well moving. Yeah, when
- 12:38Speaker 3: he's kind of clean in the pocket and just regular
- 12:42Speaker 3: pocket passer, I think sometimes he loses his accuracy.
- 12:44Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Yeah, which is odd, you know, because you guys mentioned
- 12:48Speaker 3: the protection wasn't really an issue today, and I thought he.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Was a little bit off.
- 12:52Speaker 2: So it's like a guy who can hit his runner,
- 12:54Speaker 2: but he can't hit free throws, right.
- 12:57Speaker 5: I was noticing a little bit of a yeah the pup,
- 13:00Speaker 5: the pump pulled down a little bit.
- 13:02Speaker 7: You just want to see clean motion throw foom, you
- 13:05Speaker 7: know it goes. But I think Drake will be okay.
- 13:08Speaker 5: I think this ultimately is probably a good practice because
- 13:10Speaker 5: they're probably turning the screws on him right now and saying,
- 13:12Speaker 5: you know, it wasn't wasn't a great day for him.
- 13:14Speaker 5: But I think that's what training camp is. It's ups
- 13:16Speaker 5: and downs, and they're gonna be games that are down
- 13:18Speaker 5: like this too. You're gonna have to bounce back. So
- 13:20Speaker 5: it's nice stage stepher tomorrow though.
- 13:21Speaker 4: For him, we.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Mentioned Davis and Gonzales out. Davis has been out. Gonzales
- 13:27Speaker 2: left practice yesterday with something with his leg. Jordan Schultz
- 13:31Speaker 2: is reporting that it's a hamstring uh and that his
- 13:35Speaker 2: uh you know, September is and in jeopardy because of it.
- 13:37Speaker 2: So I don't know where he's getting his information from,
- 13:40Speaker 2: but let's hope he's right.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Well, I mean, Gonzalez popped his head out at the
- 13:43Speaker 5: end of practice. I think a lot of the you know,
- 13:45Speaker 5: reporters saw him and.
- 13:47Speaker 7: His leg was still attached. He yeah, was still walking,
- 13:49Speaker 7: so I think he's gonna be okay.
- 13:50Speaker 2: But yeah, they say he wasn't limping, so that means
- 13:54Speaker 2: he didn't completely tear it. He probably just tweaked it, yeah,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you know, and he's you know, precautioned, you know, want
- 14:00Speaker 2: to make sure.
- 14:01Speaker 7: I mean, I'm in the Plo school of hamstring injuries.
- 14:04Speaker 7: Scare me a little bit, like.
- 14:05Speaker 12: I know, always many guys they don't worry the cranberry,
- 14:10Speaker 12: see they worry me for speed guys like that's like
- 14:13Speaker 12: if you're like a guard and you pull a hamstring,
- 14:15Speaker 12: you know, I'm okay with that.
- 14:17Speaker 3: But when you're a corner or a receiver and you
- 14:19Speaker 3: rely on your legs like those can linger I mean.
- 14:22Speaker 8: In season sure, like, because obviously that would cause you
- 14:24Speaker 8: to potentially miss games.
- 14:26Speaker 6: This time of year, I'm not as concerned about.
- 14:28Speaker 7: I'll see you week one gone.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just about to say, don't push it, because
- 14:32Speaker 2: that's what happens. You get these soft tissues they try
- 14:34Speaker 2: to get on and then you re injure it.
- 14:37Speaker 6: Just just why they worry me.
- 14:39Speaker 3: This time of year, you don't have that sort of
- 14:42Speaker 3: urgency to get back out there, and you don't have to.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I don't think he'll be tempted to say, well, I
- 14:46Speaker 3: don't want to miss the preseason games.
- 14:48Speaker 6: No, like I hope he.
- 14:49Speaker 7: Doesn't play anyways in the preseason games.
- 14:51Speaker 6: You have three full weeks, four weeks.
- 14:53Speaker 4: You know this is by design.
- 14:55Speaker 3: I would never you know, you have you know, actually
- 14:57Speaker 3: closer to five weeks now like before you them to
- 15:00Speaker 3: be ready.
- 15:00Speaker 6: So I'm not concerned at all, not really.
- 15:03Speaker 5: All right now, I just say I mean it's a
- 15:06Speaker 5: little bit of a different, disappointing start for the free
- 15:08Speaker 5: agency class overall. Yeah, you know that, that to me
- 15:11Speaker 5: is what's sticking out a little bit. I like to
- 15:13Speaker 5: see a little bit more from that group on the field.
- 15:16Speaker 5: So far, it hasn't been it's been up and down.
- 15:18Speaker 5: Guys have been missing time.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Well, it's been a mixed bag. Splaine, I think has
- 15:24Speaker 3: been active and good. I think Diggs has been better
- 15:27Speaker 3: than we all sort of hoped. I think Carlton Davis
- 15:30Speaker 3: would be sort of you know, I guess you're right
- 15:32Speaker 3: when you put it that way, Paul. I guess it
- 15:34Speaker 3: goes to what we said after twenty twenty one.
- 15:37Speaker 6: It's a whole different guy.
- 15:38Speaker 5: But you're right, and that's how we looked at twenty
- 15:41Speaker 5: one though in hindsight, and we said it even going
- 15:43Speaker 5: into this year, that not all these guys are going
- 15:46Speaker 5: to work out, and I think sometimes you start to
- 15:49Speaker 5: get in it.
- 15:49Speaker 7: Look, this just start up a week of practice.
- 15:51Speaker 5: It's not you know, we haven't written everything about them,
- 15:53Speaker 5: and Paul's right to highlight the positive of those guys,
- 15:56Speaker 5: but I think Morgan Moses has been in and out
- 15:58Speaker 5: of practice.
- 15:59Speaker 7: Carlton Davis hadn't really practice.
- 16:00Speaker 1: You know.
- 16:01Speaker 5: Those those two guys make out to me absolutely, you know,
- 16:03Speaker 5: guys that were really hoping for so hopefully they can
- 16:05Speaker 5: get back. And I don't know what the plan is
- 16:07Speaker 5: with most it seems like they've been working on it
- 16:08Speaker 5: for a while.
- 16:09Speaker 2: You know, you're going against your own guys. So if
- 16:11Speaker 2: Morgan Moses has been dominant, that had been great.
- 16:13Speaker 4: But it's like what, Chason's not doing anything. You can't
- 16:15Speaker 4: do anything, you.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Know, So like again, let's you can't get too pumped up,
- 16:21Speaker 2: you can't get too down right now, let's just give
- 16:24Speaker 2: it some time. We're less than a week into training camp.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Let's see what happens next week when the commanders come
- 16:30Speaker 2: here and guys are playing.
- 16:32Speaker 4: I think just that.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Little extra juice because you're going against players from another team. Uh,
- 16:39Speaker 2: let's see what happens in that one.
- 16:41Speaker 7: The corners don't worry me at all, Like.
- 16:44Speaker 8: All right, Ganza, you got that guy, Carlon, you got
- 16:46Speaker 8: that guy, Like I'll see you in September.
- 16:48Speaker 3: So I've just got one slight caveat to that. I
- 16:51Speaker 3: would agree everything about the schematic aspect of what you.
- 16:54Speaker 8: Just don't have anything to learn, like they're getting.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Carlton Davis has durability issues in his career. He's missing
- 17:01Speaker 3: he misses games every year, so I'm not necessarily about
- 17:05Speaker 3: the fact that he's banged up right now.
- 17:07Speaker 8: But how much is that as the sports science saying
- 17:09Speaker 8: you no idea if we go easy on them in
- 17:11Speaker 8: training camp, like maybe that'll give him some more longevity
- 17:14Speaker 8: once the games come around. I just think it's different
- 17:16Speaker 8: when you talk about corners specifically, especially man corners, where
- 17:19Speaker 8: like there's no scheme that they're learning, like they're not
- 17:22Speaker 8: they don't have.
- 17:22Speaker 6: To learn, not worry about the schemes at all.
- 17:24Speaker 8: Right, Like it's not like some of these other guys
- 17:26Speaker 8: that are learning a new system like receivers, like they
- 17:28Speaker 8: have to learn and build chemistry with the quarterback and
- 17:31Speaker 8: learn routes and learn you know, timing and anticipation and
- 17:34Speaker 8: all those little things like corners. It's just you know,
- 17:36Speaker 8: you're on an island. You got your guy, and it's
- 17:39Speaker 8: that's all it is.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I'm going to give you a little pushback because they
- 17:41Speaker 5: got to go to Miami week two and they got
- 17:43Speaker 5: to go chase around those two guys, and I hope
- 17:46Speaker 5: that's not good.
- 17:49Speaker 8: But that's a physical concern, right, Like, like I'm saying, like,
- 17:52Speaker 8: if they have to shut Conzo down for a couple
- 17:54Speaker 8: of weeks of practice, he's not like learn missing anything
- 17:57Speaker 8: that he's supposed to.
- 17:57Speaker 5: Be mentally, I guess I'm saying more the physical aspect
- 18:01Speaker 5: of yes, are you ready to go?
- 18:02Speaker 2: Like Miami can be taxing and Massachusetts tax Free Weekend

- 18:55Speaker 4: He gave me a current ball.
- 18:56Speaker 5: The tax free weekend to me though, was like I
- 18:58Speaker 5: have a big purchase, like something from Bob's.
- 19:01Speaker 7: Like I need to purchase a piece of furniture. This
- 19:02Speaker 7: is the weekend to do it.
- 19:03Speaker 4: But you can go to New Hampshire and do it anything.
- 19:06Speaker 6: But what do you do?
- 19:08Speaker 5: But it's not like you're going like I'm gonna go
- 19:10Speaker 5: do some close shopping and I, I mean, I don't
- 19:12Speaker 5: think of it that way.
- 19:12Speaker 4: But well, clothes aren't taxed in Massachusetts. No, I don't
- 19:17Speaker 4: know that. Food and close no tax.
- 19:20Speaker 9: Jeez.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Food, I don't think there's well restaurants, but not a
- 19:23Speaker 2: grocery store.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Oh there's a meal tax.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, but not in a grocery store. So anyway, Yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 2: that's Bob's discount for it, all right. A five to
- 19:34Speaker 2: five past five hundred is the Hotline podcast at Patriots
- 19:37Speaker 2: dot com.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Is the way to email us anything else we want
- 19:41Speaker 4: to cover before we open it up.
- 19:43Speaker 7: And I feel like we should just mention the kickers.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you.
- 19:46Speaker 7: Know yesterday Park six for six. Apparently we think very little.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I got a confirmation that, you know, from Mike Reese,
- 19:54Speaker 3: who checks with the coaching a member of the coaching staff,
- 19:57Speaker 3: he says he did.
- 19:58Speaker 6: In fact, it's confirmed six for six.
- 20:00Speaker 3: If I had to put my mortgage on it, I
- 20:03Speaker 3: would say he missed the fifth one, but they're going
- 20:06Speaker 3: six percent.
- 20:06Speaker 5: We didn't watch the practice together, but we saw it
- 20:09Speaker 5: the same way. Those last two kicks looked at like
- 20:11Speaker 5: the first three. First first, fore look good.
- 20:14Speaker 7: That's when you're looking last two.
- 20:16Speaker 4: You know what, I think would be fun A little
- 20:18Speaker 4: bit of it wraw.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Like every practice at the end, he either pulled somebody
- 20:22Speaker 2: from the media or somebody from the crowd to be
- 20:24Speaker 2: the person and do this.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be fun.
- 20:28Speaker 6: Eric Alexander used to do that for us.
- 20:29Speaker 4: You remember.
- 20:30Speaker 3: He would always stand under the goal post and he
- 20:32Speaker 3: would come forward like that like he was like one
- 20:34Speaker 3: of those Australian rules football guy.
- 20:36Speaker 7: He would and then to go yeah right.
- 20:39Speaker 5: I like the two though, where you look at each
- 20:41Speaker 5: other you do the nod, and then he would do it.
- 20:42Speaker 3: He would he would point and there'd be nobody there, point,
- 20:46Speaker 3: nod and then yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 8: You think it's interesting how they split up the kicker reps.
- 20:51Speaker 8: Now it's like yesterday was a Romo day and today
- 20:54Speaker 8: it was a borgalisday. Instead of having them go one
- 20:56Speaker 8: after another within the practice because I feel like there's
- 20:59Speaker 8: a little bit more pressure right when like it's all
- 21:02Speaker 8: you Bergolis goes from forty one and then Romo goes
- 21:05Speaker 8: and if he makes it, then it's kind of like
- 21:07Speaker 8: a PK shootout right where it's a little bit more pressure.
- 21:10Speaker 8: This now they're giving all of the reps to one
- 21:12Speaker 8: kicker per day instead of doing it the other way.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Feels still very straightforward this year with the kicking drills,
- 21:18Speaker 5: but I remember last year where they have everybody lining
- 21:20Speaker 5: around them and screaming at them and trying to disrupt them,
- 21:23Speaker 5: and it's the same special teams coaches. I just I
- 21:25Speaker 5: wonder if they'll get back to that. If they've gotten
- 21:27Speaker 5: away from that, they're going to continue to perhaps.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Have been good though, which I have something I've been
- 21:32Speaker 8: noting operation.
- 21:34Speaker 6: I haven't noticed any issues.
- 21:35Speaker 7: I haven't said Julian Ashby's name once, which.
- 21:38Speaker 4: So you have to make a decision right now, who
- 21:40Speaker 4: do you keep.
- 21:42Speaker 8: I think it's close enough to yeah, it's I mean
- 21:45Speaker 8: it's yeah, it's but you put the other guy on.
- 21:47Speaker 2: The practice squad just in case, keep him keep him
- 21:50Speaker 2: on ice.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I think if you can I mean, I guess
- 21:54Speaker 3: I'll be the turn in the punch bowl. I think
- 21:55Speaker 3: we're almost kicked better.
- 21:57Speaker 8: I would agree, but I don't think it's I don't
- 21:59Speaker 8: think that it's so different that I'm not I'm cutting
- 22:02Speaker 8: a guy I drafted this year to keep Parker Romo,
- 22:06Speaker 8: who I do think would probably make it to the
- 22:07Speaker 8: practice squad unless he has like some crazy kicks and season.
- 22:11Speaker 3: I would also say that the coaching staff is certainly
- 22:15Speaker 3: dealing with a lot more information in terms of what
- 22:17Speaker 3: Parker Romo is, you know, at this stage of his career.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I'm just judging it off of six days, right, That's
- 22:23Speaker 3: not how these decisions get made on the six days.
- 22:26Speaker 3: To me, there has been a discernible difference. I think
- 22:29Speaker 3: Romo kicks them normally every time, and Boragalis has at
- 22:33Speaker 3: least a couple every day that don't look right, even
- 22:36Speaker 3: ones that go through. So based on that, I would
- 22:40Speaker 3: say Romo. But that's not, like I said, they have
- 22:44Speaker 3: a whole you know, backlog of you know, information on
- 22:49Speaker 3: Romo and why they drafted Boragalis. I might say it's
- 22:53Speaker 3: been a it's a little bit of a struggle after
- 22:55Speaker 3: a week, but it'll work itself out.
- 22:57Speaker 4: But that's interesting.
- 22:58Speaker 7: Ones are a good point.
- 23:00Speaker 3: If they go through he made today that I would
- 23:03Speaker 3: not feel great about.
- 23:04Speaker 4: It, right he hit those wobbly.
- 23:06Speaker 2: When they go through, it means you have a lot
- 23:07Speaker 2: of power behind it and you're you're hitting through the mishit,
- 23:11Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 23:12Speaker 4: But that's not a good sign, especially once the.
- 23:14Speaker 8: Weather starts to turn and it's yeh cold.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Or there's been no weather, there's no like wind wind,
- 23:20Speaker 3: you know, that's that's really affected. Maybe one day the
- 23:23Speaker 3: wind may have had an effect on some of the
- 23:25Speaker 3: longer kicks, but not much.
- 23:27Speaker 6: It's been pretty hot and humid, good good kicking conditions.
- 23:30Speaker 2: We should mention, you know, thoughts go out to the
- 23:34Speaker 2: people at the NFL offices and everyone in that building
- 23:37Speaker 2: at Park Avenue yesterday with what happened, particularly the loss
- 23:41Speaker 2: of life from the police officer. Just not a good
- 23:44Speaker 2: scene over there. And I know NFL dot com or
- 23:47Speaker 2: they're social they've gone dark today.
- 23:49Speaker 4: They're not posting.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Because if you were there, that's kind of a scary,
- 23:55Speaker 2: scary time.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Yeah, you know you have a shelter in place, yeah, hide.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Yeah, And apparently the guy took the wrong elevator. Otherwise
- 24:02Speaker 2: he was going for the NFL offices. He you know,
- 24:07Speaker 2: the reports, So they'd had a note in his pocket
- 24:09Speaker 2: about CTE and this whole thing. So yeah, so not
- 24:14Speaker 2: a good situation, all right, eight five five Pats five
- 24:18Speaker 2: hundred is the hotline. Let's get it open to you.
- 24:22Speaker 2: We'll start with Todd and Gardner. What's up Todd?
- 24:26Speaker 13: Hey, guys, I've been loving the camp coverage, but I've got.
- 24:30Speaker 14: A quick question.
- 24:32Speaker 13: Previous years, you guys would shut the camera down, but
- 24:35Speaker 13: you'd stay and watch and give it kind of play
- 24:37Speaker 13: by play, a little bit of highlights. I know you
- 24:39Speaker 13: couldn't help exactly like a bry Woods or anything, but
- 24:42Speaker 13: that was really great just to hear the inflection is
- 24:45Speaker 13: in your voices, the excitement, the disappointment from time to time.
- 24:49Speaker 13: Two and you guys have been doing that this year.
- 24:51Speaker 13: Is there a reason why did they ask you not to?
- 24:53Speaker 4: No, they didn't ask us not to.
- 24:55Speaker 2: We decided not to because I didn't feel it was
- 24:59Speaker 2: very good content. Not a lot of people were actually
- 25:03Speaker 2: listening at that point. You know, the numbers wise, you know,
- 25:06Speaker 2: we we we know how many you know, and so
- 25:09Speaker 2: like there was a big drop off so we just
- 25:11Speaker 2: didn't think it was worth it.
- 25:13Speaker 5: It also ate into how much we could actually watch
- 25:15Speaker 5: an analyze practice because you're worried about not having dead
- 25:18Speaker 5: air and trying to relay stuff, whereas now we can
- 25:21Speaker 5: really focus on it and then come in either here
- 25:23Speaker 5: or in the camp cast and get into what the
- 25:25Speaker 5: details were that happened, rather.
- 25:27Speaker 7: Than oh, that was a big play by Gonzalez. We
- 25:29Speaker 7: can't tell exactly what happened, but that kind of thing.
- 25:31Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 13: And plus there's like w Ee I and some of
- 25:34Speaker 13: the other guys that are live casting and you can
- 25:36Speaker 13: watch there or something, So I guess there are other options.
- 25:39Speaker 13: I just prefer you guys.
- 25:41Speaker 4: All right, Okay, thanks Todd, Thanks Todd.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Well anyone else that's doing it live, they can't be
- 25:48Speaker 2: showing anything, you know, I hope.
- 25:51Speaker 10: So.
- 25:52Speaker 4: No, their cameras are on right them right. Mike's on
- 25:56Speaker 4: lung Island. What's up, Mike, A gentleman?
- 26:00Speaker 2: How we're doing?
- 26:01Speaker 11: All?
- 26:01Speaker 7: Right?
- 26:03Speaker 11: Then read yet?
- 26:05Speaker 4: What do you say? I didn't say that again? Did
- 26:08Speaker 4: you do?
- 26:08Speaker 7: Then read the bront reads?
- 26:10Speaker 4: Oh not yet, but we will Mike. You work for Brunt.
- 26:14Speaker 15: No, No, the good rule anyway?
- 26:20Speaker 11: Uh So all the book talk the last couple of
- 26:23Speaker 11: weeks and the Jaws talk.
- 26:24Speaker 15: I don't wanted to.
- 26:25Speaker 14: Call him half they able to. I read the book,
- 26:29Speaker 14: the Jaws Book, and it's way better.
- 26:32Speaker 5: The movie sounds like an affair going on, and well
- 26:36Speaker 5: we're not talking to Jaws today.
- 26:38Speaker 4: But thanks Mike.
- 26:38Speaker 3: That might be the first person I've ever heard say that.
- 26:41Speaker 3: I know a lot of people that have read the book.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I read the book and I thought the book was
- 26:44Speaker 3: I mean, the.
- 26:45Speaker 7: Movie was was actually good Ties, and.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah, they had all kinds of like this complicated affairs.
- 26:49Speaker 3: You know, Hopper has an affair with with bro It's
- 26:53Speaker 3: like mafia ties, and that the mayor is like compromised.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I read the book and the movie is much better.
- 27:00Speaker 6: That's what I hear more often than not.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I will say though, I am about halfway through
- 27:04Speaker 5: Casino Royale. I jumped into my first James Bond book
- 27:07Speaker 5: and interesting, it's very Yeah, well it's it's nice to
- 27:10Speaker 5: just read a James Bunnen just interpret him as a
- 27:12Speaker 5: character and I'll think about like Sean Connery or any
- 27:14Speaker 5: of the guys that acted us.
- 27:15Speaker 7: So it's very, very short, very sparse book. That was
- 27:18Speaker 7: what was interesting to me. So I'll full report for everybody.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Okay, all right, but.
- 27:22Speaker 7: Casino Royal is the first book.
- 27:23Speaker 5: They didn't make that one until Daniel Craig, So I
- 27:24Speaker 5: was like, why are they why they mix up with
- 27:27Speaker 5: Connery back in the fifth The books are written in
- 27:28Speaker 5: the fifties and then they jump right into like book
- 27:30Speaker 5: five was the first one.
- 27:31Speaker 4: All right, we'll get that.
- 27:34Speaker 6: Fred's not happy with this.
- 27:35Speaker 4: I just want to get football.
- 27:37Speaker 2: We just got out of time, so I just want
- 27:39Speaker 2: to make sure that we're talking football for a little
- 27:42Speaker 2: bit before people will yell at us.
- 27:44Speaker 16: Well.
- 27:44Speaker 5: I have my eye though on obviously the cornerbacks and
- 27:47Speaker 5: and Paul mentioned did you mention DJ James and this one?
- 27:49Speaker 7: DJ James, Alex Austin and Marcela Style.
- 27:52Speaker 5: So those are the you know, guys behind the scenes
- 27:54Speaker 5: that these injuries linger or they pop up during the season.
- 27:58Speaker 7: These are the guys they're looking at.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Alex Austin talked after practice, still talking to Uncle Willie McGinnis.
- 28:03Speaker 7: Mike Greasee asked him. He said, Willie told him exactly.
- 28:06Speaker 5: What to expect from Mike Rabel, So, you know, just
- 28:09Speaker 5: looking for rout s Austin to start the year like
- 28:12Speaker 5: he finished the last two years he made you know,
- 28:13Speaker 5: he had some good contributions at the end, battled injuries
- 28:16Speaker 5: the start of these last two seasons, so hopefully he's
- 28:19Speaker 5: able to mix in and provide some insurance behind Davis
- 28:22Speaker 5: and it's AWESO.
- 28:22Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 8: I don't know if Marcel's dials an outside corner, but
- 28:25Speaker 8: he's played a little bit in the slot at the
- 28:27Speaker 8: nickel spot and he's looked pretty good there. I thought
- 28:29Speaker 8: he had pretty good coverage on Hunter Henry a couple
- 28:31Speaker 8: of times today and was really good against the run
- 28:34Speaker 8: yesterday in that run heavy practice. So I wonder you know,
- 28:37Speaker 8: they talked a lot about big Nichols and getting some
- 28:40Speaker 8: more size there, and you know who's exactly going to
- 28:43Speaker 8: cover tight ends when they do face the team like
- 28:46Speaker 8: right out of the shoot with brock Bauers in Week one,
- 28:48Speaker 8: Like who's going to cover him? And maybe Dials somebody
- 28:51Speaker 8: that can play more of like a slot nickel safety
- 28:54Speaker 8: type of role.
- 28:55Speaker 7: He's a good tackler.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Marcus Jones two has had some injury issues like pretty
- 28:59Speaker 5: much of the years, so you need to ensure I
- 29:01Speaker 5: don't know.
- 29:01Speaker 8: If I love him on the outside, but if that
- 29:03Speaker 8: says the role they have in mind for dial.
- 29:05Speaker 7: I don't mind that.
- 29:06Speaker 3: That's an interesting point about Bowers, and we'll probably you know,
- 29:10Speaker 3: a couple of weeks away from really sort of diving
- 29:13Speaker 3: into that. But it's something that I have been thinking
- 29:16Speaker 3: about because Marcus Jones not big enough for that for
- 29:20Speaker 3: that role, and I do think they need a corner
- 29:21Speaker 3: on him.
- 29:22Speaker 6: Not I don't.
- 29:23Speaker 3: I don't like the idea of the safeties unless they
- 29:25Speaker 3: just wanted to try to rough them up. But I
- 29:27Speaker 3: think that's a dangerous game you're playing. I don't know
- 29:29Speaker 3: if Craig Woodson or you know, Marcus Epst, I don't
- 29:32Speaker 3: think those guys are necessarily you know, at that stage,
- 29:35Speaker 3: you might need an Alex Austin or a Marcella's dial.
- 29:38Speaker 6: As Evan just mentioned.
- 29:40Speaker 7: Would you ever go gonzo upon him about you? Could
- 29:45Speaker 7: you could do that?
- 29:46Speaker 3: Because it's really only Jacoby Myers, like that's going to
- 29:49Speaker 3: scare you, you know, as a receiver, and he's not
- 29:52Speaker 3: really even going to scare you. He's just a good
- 29:54Speaker 3: professional receiver. But they they don't really have much else before.
- 29:58Speaker 7: I think it's the rookie right why elder Thornton Mellon.
- 30:03Speaker 8: I wonder about Davis uh on Bowers like long physical
- 30:09Speaker 8: corner and Carlon Davis maybe he plays Bowers and then
- 30:13Speaker 8: you put Gonzo on Jacobe Myers.
- 30:15Speaker 4: And good luck, yeah, and then we win.
- 30:18Speaker 8: And then we went with Turner in a fast like
- 30:22Speaker 8: Pop Douglas type, right, So, like I wonder if maybe
- 30:26Speaker 8: that's the matchup. Like Carlon Davis seems like the type
- 30:28Speaker 8: of guy that could that could give Bowers some problems,
- 30:31Speaker 8: you know.
- 30:31Speaker 7: I mean he's a special player.
- 30:32Speaker 5: He's the kind of guy where you might need to
- 30:34Speaker 5: get a little bit outside of the box.
- 30:35Speaker 7: Thinking that kind of thing too.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you need someone with corner cover ability
- 30:40Speaker 3: on him, and I think Davis that makes a lot
- 30:42Speaker 3: of sense.
- 30:43Speaker 8: You got to worry about genty but that the Raiders
- 30:45Speaker 8: are going to go and win twelve games. As I'm
- 30:47Speaker 8: hyping up all their skilled players, but they, I mean
- 30:51Speaker 8: probably gonna want to have a decent amount of guys
- 30:53Speaker 8: in the box, seven eight guys in the box against
- 30:55Speaker 8: gent And you just realized.
- 30:57Speaker 5: That the way we're looking at all these teams is
- 30:59Speaker 5: the same way they're looking at us. It's like that's
- 31:02Speaker 5: a winnable game. The paid like every one of these
- 31:04Speaker 5: teams were saying the Raiders are a winnable game. The
- 31:05Speaker 5: Raiders are saying the Patriots winnable game.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yep Emery writes in red zone work, he puts in
- 31:11Speaker 2: quotes can meet a lot of different things.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Was it first and ten from the.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Twenty third and go from the five first quarter trailing
- 31:17Speaker 2: in the fourth Drake's incentive to force the ball or
- 31:20Speaker 2: throw it away are massively different depending on the details.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Can you please expand and what red zone work meant today? Yeah?
- 31:27Speaker 5: Sure, yeah, I mean it's I can give it right
- 31:28Speaker 5: to you. They started seven on seven in the red
- 31:32Speaker 5: zone and then they moved into eleven on eleven. The
- 31:34Speaker 5: first portion was going from the thirty five into the eighteen,
- 31:38Speaker 5: and they were those were running through first, second, third
- 31:40Speaker 5: downs consistently. The second one they moved to the eighteen,
- 31:45Speaker 5: did four reps there, and then the final one was
- 31:47Speaker 5: red zone plus twelve to the plus three, so right
- 31:50Speaker 5: down to the end. But a lot of those were yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 5: like the touchdown throw to Diggs was a third down
- 31:57Speaker 5: touchdown throw. A couple of the couple of the groupings
- 31:59Speaker 5: they had four reps, but for the most part it
- 32:01Speaker 5: was first, second, third down for Drake or for Dobbs,
- 32:04Speaker 5: whoever was in there at those specific yardages. So you're
- 32:07Speaker 5: totally right, that's that's good context to provide it.
- 32:09Speaker 7: It was fair.
- 32:10Speaker 5: It wasn't live scrimmage, but it was first, second, third
- 32:13Speaker 5: down that side of the field that you're you're building
- 32:15Speaker 5: up towards.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Actual I would just say that none of it was
- 32:19Speaker 3: got to have it place like, none of it was
- 32:21Speaker 3: like he's just forcing it because you know, it doesn't
- 32:23Speaker 3: matter if it's incomplete or not.
- 32:25Speaker 6: The game's over. There were no situations like.
- 32:26Speaker 5: You've never gotten the sense in this camp that's happened
- 32:28Speaker 5: in camps before, where it's very able putting the ball
- 32:31Speaker 5: in all right offense, whoever wins this gets push ups.
- 32:33Speaker 6: There hasn't been any of that kind of stuff either
- 32:35Speaker 6: where it was.
- 32:36Speaker 3: And I would also say that it doesn't really matter
- 32:38Speaker 3: what quarter it is, you know, unless, like I said,
- 32:41Speaker 3: it's like the game is ending and it's you know,
- 32:46Speaker 3: you lose if this is incomplete, you don't want to
- 32:48Speaker 3: like throw it away. Yeah, you know you're forcing one
- 32:50Speaker 3: in there. But these practice reps doesn't matter.
- 32:54Speaker 6: If it's first quarter or fourth quarter.
- 32:56Speaker 3: It's you know, yeah, they're trying to execute the red
- 33:00Speaker 3: score points.
- 33:01Speaker 4: That's the job.
- 33:01Speaker 8: They did have some quarterback round stuff in there today
- 33:05Speaker 8: that I thought was interesting.
- 33:06Speaker 6: But I know I was talking about that.
- 33:08Speaker 7: It didn't go so.
- 33:09Speaker 8: Hot, I would say, but you know, that's that's again
- 33:11Speaker 8: another thing that's gonna take some timing and you know,
- 33:14Speaker 8: a chemistry to build it, the mesh points and all
- 33:17Speaker 8: that fancy stuff. But it was I'm interested, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 8: I'm a little bit excited.
- 33:24Speaker 7: As a little bit about it too. I don't know
- 33:26Speaker 7: if you heard that, but yeah.
- 33:27Speaker 8: It's good that it's in there, and we'll see how
- 33:29Speaker 8: much they actually end up using it. But you know,
- 33:31Speaker 8: I've been found on the table for it, especially in
- 33:33Speaker 8: the low red zone, like down by the goal line,
- 33:35Speaker 8: like he can just waltz right in if you know
- 33:37Speaker 8: the end crashes, He's just gonna walk into the end zone.
- 33:40Speaker 8: So you might as well have him be a threat
- 33:43Speaker 8: to at least be able to do that. So we'll
- 33:45Speaker 8: see how much of that they end up doing. But
- 33:47Speaker 8: there was some of that today.
- 33:48Speaker 2: John Wrightson and Paul will love this email. Are you
- 33:51Speaker 2: guys only going to slam Drake May for two hours?
- 33:53Speaker 2: He's been excellent every other day.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Well, I would say he wasn't excellent on Saturday. He
- 34:00Speaker 3: was up and down on Saturday. I thought he was
- 34:02Speaker 3: better than most other people thought he was. But I
- 34:04Speaker 3: don't think he was excellent on Saturday under anybody's of you.
- 34:08Speaker 3: So we're gonna comment on what he's what he's like
- 34:12Speaker 3: that day. I'm not going to tell you that he was.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I mean, Kyle Williams was really good on last Wednesday.
- 34:18Speaker 3: I haven't really seen a whole lot from him since today.
- 34:21Speaker 14: Today.
- 34:22Speaker 3: I thought he had a horrific back shoulder dropped today
- 34:24Speaker 3: on one of the best throws that May made.
- 34:26Speaker 7: He did have him dropped into the end zone.
- 34:29Speaker 3: It was down it was downfield. I don't know if
- 34:31Speaker 3: it was in the end zone, but it was a
- 34:34Speaker 3: great time level. Yeah, and that's what you have trouble seeing.
- 34:37Speaker 3: And that's why I saw it perfectly. He has hit
- 34:40Speaker 3: him perfect hit him right on the shoulder.
- 34:41Speaker 6: And he dropped.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Because one of our emails, you were saying you don't
- 34:43Speaker 2: like using binoculars. He was saying that they have a
- 34:46Speaker 2: new thing that you might be interested in. There were
- 34:48Speaker 2: some glasses.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I wear glasses to see distance.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Yes, I mean that's I wear contact lenses so I
- 34:55Speaker 3: can see so wise, I would.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Walk into the trouble.
- 34:58Speaker 6: See there's a long your way.
- 35:00Speaker 4: So why didn't you use the binoculars.
- 35:02Speaker 3: I don't like binocars. I like to see everybody. I
- 35:04Speaker 3: don't want to just see the two guys that you
- 35:06Speaker 3: can see in the monocotar.
- 35:07Speaker 4: That's not how binoculars work. Pull I kind of a
- 35:10Speaker 4: bunch of things.
- 35:11Speaker 6: You zoom in on one individual, you.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Don't have to. I see. I see a whole line
- 35:16Speaker 4: when I'm in.
- 35:17Speaker 3: I told the boys today that it was interesting that today,
- 35:20Speaker 3: after we had the whole thing yesterday, they did everything
- 35:24Speaker 3: down the.
- 35:24Speaker 6: Far end of the field.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I was like, no, we were.
- 35:27Speaker 6: They could probably see a little bit better than me today.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Now I wouldn't have been able to see because it
- 35:30Speaker 3: was even further away from it. But it's like, you
- 35:33Speaker 3: have a problem seeing one hundred feet, so let's go
- 35:36Speaker 3: four hundred feet in the air so it's even further away.
- 35:39Speaker 6: Like that, that's a good solution. I would good suggestion.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I would take things that Paul says with a little
- 35:44Speaker 2: grain of salt, because he's not really even through millions.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Of people I know.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Evan watches the game unlike you did you see the
- 35:53Speaker 3: early It was an early reping team. It was maybe
- 35:56Speaker 3: the second series of plays that that Drake had. I
- 35:59Speaker 3: thought the timing was perfect on a back shoulder throw
- 36:02Speaker 3: that Kyle Williams job to give me that.
- 36:05Speaker 6: It's interesting.
- 36:07Speaker 3: There's only one guy here that didn't see it. You
- 36:09Speaker 3: he saw, but he just blocked it out of his
- 36:12Speaker 3: memory because time did.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I not.
- 36:15Speaker 3: But not on the air. You're saying that I couldn't
- 36:17Speaker 3: see it because I was at field.
- 36:18Speaker 4: But you have troubles perfect. You have trouble seeing. You
- 36:20Speaker 4: admit it. You have trouble seeing.
- 36:22Speaker 2: I do have trouble saying, but I saw that, So
- 36:24Speaker 2: we have to Yeah, the negative one. But you know
- 36:28Speaker 2: some people have rose colored. You know, he has this
- 36:30Speaker 2: like dark cloud colored.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Now now, now I'm not anymore too negative. I've been
- 36:36Speaker 3: getting made fun of it being too positive all camp.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Now I'm too negative.
- 36:39Speaker 8: I have I just the email or don't want me
- 36:43Speaker 8: to get They can have their own takes.
- 36:44Speaker 7: That's okay. But I think Drake's been fine. I think
- 36:47Speaker 7: he has been too.
- 36:48Speaker 8: I don't like he hasn't completed every pass, but like
- 36:51Speaker 8: I've seen exactly what I wanted to see out of
- 36:53Speaker 8: him for the most part, Like he is not going
- 36:56Speaker 8: to be Tom Brady. He's not going to complete seventy
- 36:59Speaker 8: five percent of the pass in a training camp. Practice
- 37:01Speaker 8: is not the style.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I've had no issues with Drake may. I don't think
- 37:04Speaker 3: today was one of his better days.
- 37:05Speaker 7: I agree with you. But he's going to have those sprays.
- 37:08Speaker 8: He's going to have the erratic throws, and he's probably
- 37:10Speaker 8: going to have what three four of them a game
- 37:13Speaker 8: that you're like, where was that one going? But then
- 37:16Speaker 8: he's also going to drop one in the bucket of
- 37:18Speaker 8: Pop Douglas sixty yards down the field off platform, and
- 37:20Speaker 8: you're going to be like, oh right, yep, Like that's
- 37:22Speaker 8: that's why he's The throat that was so good.
- 37:24Speaker 6: I think I've written about it three different times, right.
- 37:26Speaker 8: So, like, you know, the throat of booty at the
- 37:28Speaker 8: end of practice. I thought was ending it on a
- 37:29Speaker 8: high note. I thought he made a nice throw that
- 37:32Speaker 8: Fred mentioned earlier, the feeder throat of Stefan Dix, you know,
- 37:35Speaker 8: right over Craig Woodson.
- 37:37Speaker 7: Williams fade.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Yep, but Kyle Williams fade touchdown when they work in
- 37:44Speaker 3: the hut in there in the red zone.
- 37:46Speaker 4: It's not that hard, but it has. Tony told me,
- 37:50Speaker 4: who's Tony?
- 37:55Speaker 5: It's funny that this email though he's right in so
- 37:57Speaker 5: we would stop talking about it, and now we're just
- 37:59Speaker 5: going to double down on top about Drake's day.
- 38:01Speaker 6: Just like I don't I don't really have time for children.
- 38:04Speaker 3: I really don't like if you don't want to hear that,
- 38:07Speaker 3: like the offensive line has been an issue at times,
- 38:09Speaker 3: don't listen.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Just pretend it's not an issue. If you don't want
- 38:14Speaker 6: to hear that.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Drake May made a lot of really good throws that
- 38:17Speaker 3: were really tough on Saturday, but he also missed some.
- 38:20Speaker 6: Don't listen, Like I don't want to tell you not
- 38:23Speaker 6: to listen.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Obviously we want everybody that we can, but I can't
- 38:26Speaker 3: just make it up right now.
- 38:28Speaker 4: I'm only kidding. Oh, I know you.
- 38:29Speaker 5: And that's what's like funny, is like Evan and I
- 38:31Speaker 5: watched practice and I walk down, you know, go right
- 38:33Speaker 5: up to Paul and would you think and it's just like, yeah,
- 38:36Speaker 5: we both watched the same practice.
- 38:37Speaker 4: You know, that's for everybody. Everybody.
- 38:42Speaker 3: No, there's times where, like as I said on Saturday,
- 38:48Speaker 3: I had all of those guys making fun of me
- 38:50Speaker 3: because I thought, because of the level of difficulty on
- 38:54Speaker 3: some of the throws that Drake May was pretty good
- 38:56Speaker 3: on Saturday. Everybody else that covered the practice thought he
- 38:59Speaker 3: was really erratic, and I was like, Oh, it's kind
- 39:02Speaker 3: of hard to complete a twenty five yard over route
- 39:04Speaker 3: with a guy in your grill. Today he didn't have
- 39:07Speaker 3: guys in his grill as often, so when he was
- 39:09Speaker 3: missing some throws today, I was a little bit less
- 39:12Speaker 3: forgiving on some of the misfires. Tomorrow he might be
- 39:16Speaker 3: perfect and we'll say that he was perfect.
- 39:19Speaker 8: I just feel like, you know, I think the scribes
- 39:21Speaker 8: had him seven for fourteen today, and given where the
- 39:24Speaker 8: field position was and where they were working, like I
- 39:27Speaker 8: kind of expect a quarterback to go seven for fourteen
- 39:30Speaker 8: when they're throwing the ball from the three yard line,
- 39:32Speaker 8: like those are going to be tight windows, those are
- 39:34Speaker 8: gonna be hard passes to complete. So I'm not surprised
- 39:37Speaker 8: that it wasn't perfect. And I don't think his accuracy
- 39:40Speaker 8: is perfect, Like, I don't think he's a precision quarterback.
- 39:43Speaker 2: You know, It's so funny here in New England because
- 39:45Speaker 2: other than Tom Brady, we've never had a hot you know,
- 39:49Speaker 2: a top quarterback to watch in training camp.
- 39:53Speaker 4: You know Cam Newton and Mac Jones, and.
- 39:56Speaker 7: I don't forget about Bailey Zappy.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Though, you know, so, like I wonder what it looks
- 40:00Speaker 2: like at other places for you know, like like.
- 40:04Speaker 4: One of the better quarterbacks.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Like what does the first week of practice look like
- 40:09Speaker 2: for you know a quarterback, like a top fifteen quarterback.
- 40:13Speaker 5: Let's say, I mean, I just say real quick for me, like,
- 40:16Speaker 5: I've been surprised at how well Drake has looked through
- 40:19Speaker 5: these early practices. I expected that there would be some hesitation,
- 40:23Speaker 5: some not quite knowing where to go with it, that
- 40:25Speaker 5: kind of thing. But he's been really good picking up
- 40:29Speaker 5: the offense. It seems like knowing where to go with
- 40:32Speaker 5: the ball being decisive. So the last couple of days
- 40:35Speaker 5: and I'm probably a little bit more on the everybody
- 40:37Speaker 5: making fun of Paul side than Paul's side. From Saturdays,
- 40:39Speaker 5: I thought he was erratic and missed some throws, but
- 40:42Speaker 5: again today, like I thought a lot of those, I've
- 40:44Speaker 5: seen him make those throws and it's not like the
- 40:46Speaker 5: offense looks like too much for him. It's not push
- 40:49Speaker 5: the panic button. Anybody who played sports they ever have
- 40:52Speaker 5: a bad day of practice where you felt a little off,
- 40:54Speaker 5: Well maybe that was what today was. But again that
- 40:56Speaker 5: what I'm excited now is to see how does he
- 40:57Speaker 5: bounce back tomorrow? How does he take this performance with
- 41:00Speaker 5: which Again, the first thing Harold Landry says is the
- 41:02Speaker 5: offense kind of took it to us that, you know,
- 41:04Speaker 5: and the coaches were kind of on us and we
- 41:06Speaker 5: so now it's time for the offense to try to
- 41:08Speaker 5: respond and get their buzzing gear.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Rick in Riverside, Rhode Island, he has two points. Booty
- 41:14Speaker 2: may not be a number one, but he's solid and
- 41:16Speaker 2: had some big plays last year. Do you see him
- 41:19Speaker 2: benefiting from Josh's system and Diggs drawing more attention? I
- 41:23Speaker 2: think he can be a fifty sixty catch eight to
- 41:26Speaker 2: ten touchdown player. And his second point is the O
- 41:29Speaker 2: line looks much improved with a talent in flux creating
- 41:32Speaker 2: strong camp competition. Do you see Remandre benefiting from a
- 41:36Speaker 2: revamped O line. I know we had the fumbles last year,
- 41:40Speaker 2: but he is still a good to great running back.
- 41:44Speaker 2: So the first point, what about Booty.
- 41:46Speaker 7: Pody a nice practice say?
- 41:47Speaker 5: I think Paul said a couple of days ago feels
- 41:49Speaker 5: like he's a little bit of a slow starter. I
- 41:50Speaker 5: think he's been a little bit more quiet than Diggs
- 41:52Speaker 5: and Douglas have been.
- 41:53Speaker 7: Through the early practices.
- 41:55Speaker 5: But as Evan pointed out, he caught a TD to
- 41:57Speaker 5: wrap up today, you know, from Drake nice throw.
- 41:59Speaker 7: So I think he's absolutely in the mix. I don't
- 42:03Speaker 7: evenally consider him on the bubble.
- 42:05Speaker 5: We'll see how it develops over the course of the
- 42:07Speaker 5: year if Kyle Williams maybe is able to eat into
- 42:09Speaker 5: some of his snaps.
- 42:10Speaker 7: He's been good, but he's he's been solid. Yeah, I
- 42:12Speaker 7: mean it's not flashy, you know, he's not you know,
- 42:15Speaker 7: but I think he's for the role that they need
- 42:17Speaker 7: him for. I think he'll be He'll be pretty.
- 42:19Speaker 8: Eight to ten touchdowns is a lot. I would say,
- 42:21Speaker 8: maybe you're closer to him potentially on the reception side,
- 42:25Speaker 8: Like I don't necessarily watch key Shan Boody and think,
- 42:27Speaker 8: like red zone threat that all of a sudden he's
- 42:29Speaker 8: going to start racking up a bunch of touchdowns.
- 42:31Speaker 4: But I.
- 42:34Speaker 8: Think that for the role that they want that X
- 42:36Speaker 8: receiver to play, which in the past has been referred
- 42:39Speaker 8: to as just like a sacrificial X, Like you're basically
- 42:41Speaker 8: just on the outside taking taking the top off, you know,
- 42:46Speaker 8: occupying the deep safety. If you're one on one backside,
- 42:49Speaker 8: you might get a target like that that role. I
- 42:52Speaker 8: don't see why he can't do that. I mean, hopefully
- 42:54Speaker 8: it's down the route, down the line. They can upgrade
- 42:58Speaker 8: that spot. But for the time being, he's the best
- 43:00Speaker 8: that they got.
- 43:01Speaker 2: What do you think about run blocking? Can you make
- 43:03Speaker 2: any judgment yet?
- 43:06Speaker 8: It's it's been good. I think through two practices. It's
- 43:09Speaker 8: two practices, so I think it's premature to make any
- 43:11Speaker 8: big judgments. But like Campbell and Jared Wilson could really
- 43:14Speaker 8: help their run blocking. You know, they're both really good
- 43:17Speaker 8: run blockers, really athletic players as well, so it kind
- 43:20Speaker 8: of allows them to do some different things, you know,
- 43:23Speaker 8: whether it's like tossing or getting up to the second
- 43:25Speaker 8: level or pulling, you know, either one of those guys,
- 43:28Speaker 8: Like they have that athleticism and that movement skill, so
- 43:32Speaker 8: I think they're gonna be able to run the ball
- 43:33Speaker 8: a little bit if this continues to progress.
- 43:35Speaker 2: This Dirrection and Campbell he does seem like a maller
- 43:38Speaker 2: in the run game. He does once he gets his
- 43:41Speaker 2: mits on a guy.
- 43:42Speaker 4: It's all over.
- 43:43Speaker 7: Yeah, he moves his feet. Well he's aggressive and.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go to the phones.
- 43:48Speaker 4: James is in belize. What's up?
- 43:51Speaker 15: James, Hey break, Yes, I don't want to talk about football.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Okay, you don't want to talk about football.
- 44:05Speaker 15: This is first of all, because I'll call you from
- 44:07Speaker 15: the middle of nowhere.
- 44:08Speaker 7: Oh double o seven?
- 44:09Speaker 1: Is that you?
- 44:10Speaker 9: I like it?
- 44:13Speaker 6: What's up?
- 44:13Speaker 13: So?
- 44:13Speaker 15: Yeah, so's not very much. I'm a visit, like, visiting
- 44:18Speaker 15: all the local bars to try and find the official
- 44:21Speaker 15: Patriot bar here, trying to represent the fan club. But
- 44:24Speaker 15: obviously that takes a lot of information and things like that.
- 44:27Speaker 15: So I just thought i'd check in and see how things are.
- 44:30Speaker 15: I think I think mostly like Paul and Mike, there
- 44:35Speaker 15: are definitely fans, so I think of the majority of
- 44:38Speaker 15: the stick by you, I'm cautiously optimistic about eight wins.
- 44:43Speaker 15: If I squinted, I think I can see, you know,
- 44:46Speaker 15: maybe ten wins, but you know, we'll see how it gets. Yeah,
- 44:50Speaker 15: those are Michaels.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Listen if they have eight wins, even eight wins, and
- 44:53Speaker 2: thanks James. Even eight wins is four better than last year,
- 44:57Speaker 2: and some things will have to go right.
- 44:59Speaker 4: Now, obviously nine times they.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Didn't they ended up losing. But even to get to
- 45:05Speaker 2: eight wins, you're gonna have to see a lot of
- 45:07Speaker 2: improvement from last year.
- 45:09Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I've talked to Mike Grease before practice. We've talked
- 45:12Speaker 5: about a little it's just the last couple of years
- 45:15Speaker 5: I felt, you know, I felt optimistic last year too,
- 45:17Speaker 5: And it's just trying to figure out because right now,
- 45:20Speaker 5: I feel like this looks like a football team. To me,
- 45:22Speaker 5: it looks like an NFL football team that's gonna win
- 45:25Speaker 5: some games. I don't want to put a number on
- 45:27Speaker 5: it what it's gonna be, but it looks like a
- 45:28Speaker 5: team that's gonna have an identity, that's gonna have a
- 45:30Speaker 5: play style, that's gonna follow.
- 45:32Speaker 7: The lead of their head coach.
- 45:35Speaker 5: But even like two years ago, you felt like, yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 5: it hasn't been great, but we got Bill Belichick and
- 45:39Speaker 5: it's gonna come together.
- 45:40Speaker 7: And you know, last year maybe it was a little
- 45:42Speaker 7: bit more.
- 45:43Speaker 5: I'm maintaining an open mind, trying to be positive, but
- 45:45Speaker 5: this is gonna be something completely new. So I feel
- 45:47Speaker 5: a little bit like I just I'm not quite sure
- 45:50Speaker 5: what I believe anymore, Like I need to see and
- 45:52Speaker 5: feel like if these guys come out and.
- 45:53Speaker 8: Looks so you don't know, it's just a kid who
- 45:56Speaker 8: was told Santa Claus right right.
- 45:59Speaker 7: It's been hurt.
- 46:00Speaker 5: But but I mean, you guys have watched plenty of teams,
- 46:02Speaker 5: and I mean it's you're probably a little skewed because
- 46:04Speaker 5: you're watching, you know, the greatest run in football history,
- 46:08Speaker 5: and the other teams are probably like, you know, more
- 46:12Speaker 5: up and down. And some quarterbacks aren't just Tom Brady
- 46:14Speaker 5: where he just seems to keep getting better and every
- 46:16Speaker 5: year he's awesome. And you know, some guys are like
- 46:18Speaker 5: Russell Wilson, where it's good and it's bad, and it's
- 46:21Speaker 5: good and it's bad, and it's bad and it's bad
- 46:22Speaker 5: and it's good and it's bad. You know, those kind
- 46:24Speaker 5: of ups and downs, and when people ask us to
- 46:26Speaker 5: predict like what we see. I feel really positive about
- 46:30Speaker 5: the team that they're putting together up there. They might
- 46:32Speaker 5: have some words, they might not be the greatest team
- 46:33Speaker 5: in the world yet, but I feel good about.
- 46:36Speaker 7: The team that they're building right now.
- 46:37Speaker 5: I don't know what it's going to translate to, but
- 46:39Speaker 5: I'm just hoping that I'm not again being the cock
- 46:41Speaker 5: eyed optimist of well, Mike Rabel's running around and doing
- 46:44Speaker 5: drills and everybody's saying all the right things.
- 46:46Speaker 6: And you get in the regular season.
- 46:47Speaker 17: And you're like, oh my god, we don't have those
- 46:49Speaker 17: means Honestly since Brady left, Paul and have we had
- 46:54Speaker 17: a training camp time a summer and you get through
- 46:58Speaker 17: into the you know, September where we said, wow, that
- 47:02Speaker 17: was a great training camp, that was a great preseason.
- 47:05Speaker 4: This team's ready to go. Have we had that since Brady?
- 47:08Speaker 7: Even with Brady?
- 47:09Speaker 4: Did you feel that way though?
- 47:10Speaker 7: I mean, do you still feel kind of like a
- 47:12Speaker 7: few things?
- 47:13Speaker 3: So there were a couple of times I did, But
- 47:15Speaker 3: to be honest, no, I didn't always think like that.
- 47:17Speaker 6: I mean, you knew they were good because they had him.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Right right, that's the greats Like seven, they just looked
- 47:23Speaker 3: like it was different, Like you could just tell that
- 47:25Speaker 3: the team had a look that was really efficient and effective,
- 47:30Speaker 3: and you could tell that that team was going to.
- 47:32Speaker 4: Be things that you hadn't seen before.
- 47:34Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean when Brady was here, I always thought, well,
- 47:37Speaker 3: you know, it's going to be twelve and four minimum,
- 47:39Speaker 3: you know, are they going to host the championship game?
- 47:42Speaker 6: Dude got very upset at that, but.
- 47:45Speaker 5: You were probably saying the reason they're going to lose
- 47:47Speaker 5: these four games in training camp is becaurect.
- 47:49Speaker 7: I don't think like we don't have the depth on
- 47:51Speaker 7: the defensive.
- 47:52Speaker 4: You know, we can't.
- 47:54Speaker 6: I used to argue with Bill O'Brien.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien used to give Andy and I a hard
- 47:57Speaker 3: time about it, like, I don't know how you guys
- 47:59Speaker 3: do it.
- 47:59Speaker 6: I don't know how you guys.
- 48:01Speaker 3: And we explained to them, like Billy, we're not saying
- 48:04Speaker 3: that the team's not great. What we're saying is is
- 48:07Speaker 3: there something about the team that's going to cause you
- 48:09Speaker 3: to have to go on the road in a big
- 48:12Speaker 3: playoff game? And you know, and it would be something
- 48:15Speaker 3: like that, like I don't know if they have enough
- 48:17Speaker 3: depth at corner like that nickelback spot, or you know,
- 48:20Speaker 3: where are they going to get you know, the pass
- 48:22Speaker 3: rush from you know beyond X or whatever, you know something.
- 48:26Speaker 3: It was never like I don't know if they have
- 48:28Speaker 3: a number one receiver, Well, I don't know if they
- 48:30Speaker 3: have an answer at left tackle.
- 48:32Speaker 6: It was never something like that.
- 48:33Speaker 3: It was always like a depth related secondary piece that
- 48:38Speaker 3: might be the difference between twelve and fourteen wins. Now
- 48:42Speaker 3: we just we just want to get back to respectability.
- 48:45Speaker 8: Yeah, I feel like that's like the way I see
- 48:47Speaker 8: what's been going on really since the spring is like
- 48:50Speaker 8: I feel like they're going to put eleven guys in
- 48:52Speaker 8: the field that know what they're doing because of the coaching.
- 48:54Speaker 8: Like I feel like they're going to be coach correctly
- 48:56Speaker 8: and they're going to know their assignments and they're going
- 48:58Speaker 8: to play fundamentally sound. I think that they're gonna be
- 49:01Speaker 8: able to do all that. You know, where the roster
- 49:04Speaker 8: is and where that is are two different things. Like
- 49:06Speaker 8: there's a professional football player, so there's a if you
- 49:09Speaker 8: coach him right, they can get to that level of
- 49:11Speaker 8: like we're competent, right, right, But are they gonna have
- 49:16Speaker 8: the top end talent in certain areas? Are they gonna
- 49:18Speaker 8: have the depth in certain areas? I think that still
- 49:21Speaker 8: remains to be seen.
- 49:23Speaker 5: Looking back, I feel like I looked at certainly twenty nineteen,
- 49:26Speaker 5: my first season here, when Brady was still here, but
- 49:29Speaker 5: even after Brady left, no matter what happened in camp,
- 49:34Speaker 5: I think I would defer to we have Bill Belichick.
- 49:36Speaker 5: We have the greatest coach of all time. It's gonna
- 49:39Speaker 5: pull together, even no matter how things look in camp.
- 49:42Speaker 5: He's a good enough coach, he's gonna pull it together.
- 49:44Speaker 5: And maybe I, you know, had the wool pulled over
- 49:46Speaker 5: my eyes a little bit with those observations twenty three,
- 49:50Speaker 5: twenty four.
- 49:51Speaker 7: Now you're starting not to.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Just blindly believe that this team's gonna somehow pull it together.
- 49:57Speaker 5: And right now, I really do feel really good about
- 50:00Speaker 5: what they're building out there, and it's just I'm you know,
- 50:02Speaker 5: I'm trying not to be like over the moon because
- 50:05Speaker 5: I know it's not going to be as great as
- 50:07Speaker 5: you think it could possibly be, but I still think
- 50:09Speaker 5: it could be really good. And what I've seen from
- 50:12Speaker 5: this team in the first week, I really believe in
- 50:14Speaker 5: Mike Rabel as a coach.
- 50:15Speaker 7: I believe in the program that he's doing.
- 50:16Speaker 5: I just hope that they have the talent to really
- 50:19Speaker 5: trade punches with these really good teams that they inevitably
- 50:22Speaker 5: have to face up and down there.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I'm just wondering, is there things that you need to
- 50:26Speaker 2: see in August, in the month of August to be
- 50:30Speaker 2: able to definitively say, yeah, this offense is going to
- 50:34Speaker 2: be okay.
- 50:35Speaker 4: Yeah, It's hard, right, It.
- 50:36Speaker 5: Is hard because it is you talk about joint practices
- 50:39Speaker 5: and yeah, you know, I'm sure Philly came out of
- 50:42Speaker 5: here feeling like, well, maybe the Patriots just stunk last
- 50:45Speaker 5: year and their offensive line was terrible, and you know,
- 50:48Speaker 5: or they felt like, wow, we are primed to do
- 50:51Speaker 5: what we're about to do.
- 50:52Speaker 7: It's so hard. It's just it goes back to the
- 50:55Speaker 7: only real truth is games.
- 50:56Speaker 5: And no matter what we talk about from preseason, from
- 50:59Speaker 5: joint practices, from OTAs and all this stuff, and we
- 51:01Speaker 5: certainly get information about how the coaches feel about players,
- 51:04Speaker 5: and we see big plays, but how's it all going
- 51:07Speaker 5: to come together in an organic game setting where there's
- 51:10Speaker 5: ups and downs on the flow of the game and
- 51:11Speaker 5: this team needs mental toughness and they need to preserve
- 51:14Speaker 5: a lead or they need to come from behind, like.
- 51:16Speaker 7: All those characteristics.
- 51:17Speaker 5: I just I don't think there's any way to know
- 51:19Speaker 5: from what happens in August up to August until they
- 51:22Speaker 5: blow the whistle and it's kick off week one.
- 51:23Speaker 8: This cam feels a little bit like twenty one to me,
- 51:26Speaker 8: Like they've had this free agency class that they brought
- 51:29Speaker 8: in that has some guys that you feel like are
- 51:31Speaker 8: veteran players that are proven commodities in the league, and
- 51:34Speaker 8: you're not filling holes with guys that are really not
- 51:37Speaker 8: meant to be in those roles, Like Millan Williams is
- 51:40Speaker 8: a starting defensive lineman, Morgan Moses is starting tackle in
- 51:43Speaker 8: the NFL. But we know what free agency is, we
- 51:47Speaker 8: know that that's not really where the top end talent is.
- 51:49Speaker 8: So the difference is is you hope that Drake May
- 51:53Speaker 8: is better than Mac Jones and you hope that Will
- 51:55Speaker 8: Campbell is better than some of the guys that they
- 51:57Speaker 8: drafted in that timeframe. But I feel like what I'm
- 52:01Speaker 8: watching feels similar to that, where it's like, Okay, they're
- 52:05Speaker 8: going to be competent, and that your competent men ten
- 52:07Speaker 8: wins in the playoff Berth. I don't know where it's
- 52:09Speaker 8: going to get them this year, but we'll see. I
- 52:12Speaker 8: think offensively, you want to see them be able to
- 52:14Speaker 8: be multiple, Like can they do everything at their disposal
- 52:18Speaker 8: to move the football? When you're one dimensional, if you
- 52:21Speaker 8: can't run the ball, you can't pass, block, you can't run, block,
- 52:24Speaker 8: you can't throw.
- 52:26Speaker 6: You make it easier to defend.
- 52:28Speaker 8: So if they can, that would be my sequence at
- 52:29Speaker 8: all together, then they can smart.
- 52:32Speaker 3: The way even't just put that I think is perfect,
- 52:35Speaker 3: and I would want to make sure that they do
- 52:38Speaker 3: not have to do a lot of really different things
- 52:42Speaker 3: to scheme around pass protection, scheme around the tackles, because
- 52:47Speaker 3: I think that's a hard I mean, you can do it,
- 52:48Speaker 3: and I know Josh can get away from a little.
- 52:50Speaker 3: Josh will be better at it than Alexander. But I
- 52:53Speaker 3: think you're very limited if you can only do it
- 52:55Speaker 3: one way, you know, and then you know, in other words,
- 52:58Speaker 3: you have to glue. Somebody will campbell every time you
- 53:01Speaker 3: face a speed rusher like that's not ideal.
- 53:04Speaker 2: So in the past, you know, no matter what it
- 53:06Speaker 2: looked like, we had faith in Belichick that he'll figure
- 53:10Speaker 2: it out. That faith started to erode, I think really
- 53:13Speaker 2: in the Patricia year where he named him offensive coordinator
- 53:17Speaker 2: and it didn't look good and it wasn't good. Like
- 53:20Speaker 2: even I was saying, oh, it'll be fine. You know,
- 53:23Speaker 2: it's Belichick, he knows what he's doing. Patricia was used
- 53:25Speaker 2: to be a head coach. He knows football. It'll be fun.
- 53:27Speaker 2: It wasn't.
- 53:28Speaker 18: It was.
- 53:28Speaker 4: It was terrible.
- 53:30Speaker 2: And then every and then the next year was even
- 53:34Speaker 2: when you had Bill O'Brien.
- 53:36Speaker 4: It just still didn't look good.
- 53:38Speaker 2: You were thinking, Okay, we'll get out of August and
- 53:40Speaker 2: Bill O'Brien's a good offensive coordinator, he'll make it fine.
- 53:44Speaker 2: It still wasn't good, and there wasn't any indications in
- 53:46Speaker 2: the summer that it would be. We just had faith
- 53:49Speaker 2: in Bill O'Brien. But that didn't work either. And so
- 53:52Speaker 2: I'm a little bit, you know, still traumatized by that. Now.
- 53:57Speaker 2: I do believe in Mike Rabel. I think he is
- 54:00Speaker 2: a good coach, and like you said, it does seem
- 54:02Speaker 2: like they're buttoned up and he is stressing the fundamentals
- 54:05Speaker 2: and situation will play and taking care of taking advantage
- 54:09Speaker 2: of bad football.
- 54:10Speaker 4: So you hope that that's true.
- 54:12Speaker 2: But we got to see it now like where you know,
- 54:15Speaker 2: where where a fan base that's been kind of, like
- 54:19Speaker 2: I said, traumatized over the last few.
- 54:21Speaker 8: There's a couple of things and like that to that
- 54:23Speaker 8: point about like buttoning things up, like Tyrus Tonga just
- 54:27Speaker 8: comes unblocked through the a gap today and and sacks
- 54:29Speaker 8: drink may and like under a second, like you can't
- 54:32Speaker 8: have that like that, you can't have that.
- 54:34Speaker 4: So like, oh, yesterday it was speline came.
- 54:37Speaker 8: Unbelowing, right, but like that's at least a blitz from
- 54:40Speaker 8: the second level, Right, you can't have the nose tackle
- 54:42Speaker 8: standing right over the center going what happened? You know,
- 54:45Speaker 8: Like so that's that's unacceptable.
- 54:49Speaker 2: And we saw that like I don't know if it
- 54:50Speaker 2: was last year, last year when you'd have linemen just
- 54:52Speaker 2: like in space, like who am I blocking?
- 54:54Speaker 1: Right?
- 54:54Speaker 4: So, like the communication was terrible?
- 54:56Speaker 8: Does Raybell take that next step of like being like no,
- 55:00Speaker 8: like where that is? You know, this is where the
- 55:03Speaker 8: s that gets you beat? Yeah, right, Like that's in
- 55:05Speaker 8: that category, not part of that gets you beat, you know,
- 55:09Speaker 8: the snaps like they had they've had three aborted snaps
- 55:13Speaker 8: at this point through six practices. Like they got to
- 55:15Speaker 8: clean that up. That goes in that bucket too, yep.
- 55:18Speaker 8: And if that stops, like by next week, if all
- 55:20Speaker 8: that kind of stuff stops because they clean it up,
- 55:23Speaker 8: then I feel like I'm going to be feeling pretty
- 55:25Speaker 8: good about where they're going. But the one thing that
- 55:28Speaker 8: has to be optimistic about the offense is I think
- 55:30Speaker 8: that they're going to be able to run block. And
- 55:32Speaker 8: if they can run block, then you can scheme stuff
- 55:35Speaker 8: off the run game, you get play action involved, you
- 55:37Speaker 8: move the pocket like you do, different things like that
- 55:40Speaker 8: that are around the run game that aren't necessarily about
- 55:43Speaker 8: volume of run game. But if they can truly run
- 55:45Speaker 8: block like that, then you can be optimistic about that's
- 55:49Speaker 8: a foundation of an offense. That's like an identity of
- 55:51Speaker 8: an offense, and hopefully that continues in that direction. But
- 55:56Speaker 8: can't have Kiros Tong. He's three hundred and forty pounds. Like,
- 55:58Speaker 8: no one put a hat on that guy, Like.
- 56:00Speaker 7: It's kind of hard to miss.
- 56:01Speaker 4: Yeah, come on, Javon's in New York? What's up? Javaon?
- 56:08Speaker 11: Hey?
- 56:08Speaker 4: Javaon?
- 56:10Speaker 11: No?
- 56:11Speaker 4: Okay? How about Dan and Vermont? Hey Dan?
- 56:17Speaker 2: Dan?
- 56:20Speaker 4: Okay, that's how you.
- 56:21Speaker 6: If Patty doesn't come through, it's time to push away
- 56:23Speaker 6: from the table.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Patty's an agawam? What's up? Patty?
- 56:27Speaker 14: Guys?
- 56:27Speaker 4: Are you okay?
- 56:30Speaker 13: Cann Senior day, Just a question on the right tackle position.
- 56:38Speaker 19: Has Mark Marcus Bryant and John Jack Connelly haven't taken
- 56:41Speaker 19: any reps at right tackle? And these tup added practices?
- 56:45Speaker 19: Because I don't know about you, guys, but demonstra Jacob
- 56:48Speaker 19: Scar's the hell out of me if he has to
- 56:49Speaker 19: play any extended time.
- 56:51Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a little bit, but not not in any
- 56:55Speaker 8: meaningful eleven on eleven work. Conley has played some tackle
- 57:00Speaker 8: both sides, like with the threes and like that stuff
- 57:03Speaker 8: like that, like opportunity reps for those guys. But yeah,
- 57:06Speaker 8: I mean right now, like having a I'm gonna give
- 57:09Speaker 8: Morgan Moses the benefit of the doubt for now, Like
- 57:12Speaker 8: he's a twelve year veteran in it's training camp and
- 57:14Speaker 8: like a lot of guys don't even show up to
- 57:16Speaker 8: training camp this time of year anymore in his shoes.
- 57:19Speaker 8: So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But
- 57:21Speaker 8: is he gonna be there for seventeen games is a
- 57:23Speaker 8: real question. And if it is, Demontre Jacobs is his
- 57:27Speaker 8: top backup or Caden Wallace kicks back outside or whatever
- 57:30Speaker 8: the case may be, Like they have to figure out
- 57:33Speaker 8: they need to have a functional backup right tackle because
- 57:35Speaker 8: I don't know if Morgan Moses is gonna be there
- 57:37Speaker 8: for you know, the entire season, Like he's probably gonna
- 57:40Speaker 8: have some bumps in the road.
- 57:42Speaker 6: Yep.
- 57:43Speaker 4: Sean's in Virginia.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Hey Sean, Okay, I mean you talk.
- 57:53Speaker 20: About this as far as like the death of the
- 57:54Speaker 20: team like that, you know whatever. I guess people to
- 57:58Speaker 20: be perfect, you know, because I don't really see the
- 58:02Speaker 20: talking being appropriate. At least graft I can think about
- 58:04Speaker 20: this that we all can really agree of funds, it's
- 58:08Speaker 20: really uh that this team actually does have guys and
- 58:11Speaker 20: talking different teams. I mean, that's what we have said
- 58:15Speaker 20: in the past. So obviously that you can compete against
- 58:20Speaker 20: the best of the best, because I guess songs kind
- 58:23Speaker 20: of a players, so they didn't have the best.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Okay, is there a question there or no?
- 58:33Speaker 20: No, not necessarily just talking about the team as far
- 58:37Speaker 20: as everybody to be perfect and you know, in not
- 58:40Speaker 20: different ways. But yeah, even even the contenders that we
- 58:43Speaker 20: named don't have that.
- 58:44Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it's it's it's never perfect. It's never perfect.
- 58:48Speaker 2: But I think you know, thanks Sean. You know, we're
- 58:51Speaker 2: kind of doing.
- 58:52Speaker 4: What the coaches do.
- 58:53Speaker 2: We're we're really getting into the weeds and analyzing, you know,
- 58:57Speaker 2: almost every play, who had a good one, who didn't
- 59:01Speaker 2: have a good one? You know, on a play that
- 59:04Speaker 2: the defense wins, you know, somebody in the offense. You
- 59:07Speaker 2: could say somebody in the offense didn't do their jobs,
- 59:10Speaker 2: or you can look at it the other way. Somebody
- 59:12Speaker 2: on the defense did a really good job, but you
- 59:15Speaker 2: have to do that. That's what practice is all about.
- 59:17Speaker 2: They go after the each practice, they go and they
- 59:20Speaker 2: look at each you know, play and they break it
- 59:23Speaker 2: down and then they present it back to the players
- 59:26Speaker 2: and you know, they call out who had who did what,
- 59:30Speaker 2: and that's how you get better. So no, it's it's
- 59:33Speaker 2: not perfect. It's just impossible to be perfect. And I
- 59:38Speaker 2: don't think that's the expectation here, you know.
- 59:41Speaker 7: I think it's about figuring out.
- 59:42Speaker 2: But if you have three botch snaps, those are three
- 59:46Speaker 2: botch snaps. Those are those are clear mistakes. You have
- 59:49Speaker 2: to call those out.
- 59:50Speaker 3: A couple of those were like, you know, to go
- 59:53Speaker 3: back to Evans's point, you know, the bleep that gets
- 59:55Speaker 3: you beat.
- 59:55Speaker 6: A couple of them were in the red zone.
- 59:57Speaker 3: So that's potentially taking points off the boards at least four,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: but maybe even seven. You know, if you're losing the possession,
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: that's the stuff you can't overcome.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: You can't. You got to It's not a stride for perfection.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: I mean, I know all coaches want to strive for
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: perfection knowing that they can't achieve it. But We're not
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: like nitpicking things. These are major, major problems that need
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: to get cleaned up. You know that we're you know,
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: the things that we're talking about specifically are issues that
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: last year were problems all summer and they carried over
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: into the station.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: And at the same time, you know, you want to
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: focus on the center position, you know, the three bunch snaps,
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: but we're also saying that Jared Wilson is a bright
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: spot at center, like he could be a guy pushing
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: for a job either there or at left Guard. You know,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: even with those and I don't think I think he
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: only had one of the bunch snaps a little.
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: Paul, Well, we're in disagreement.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, that's another one that I'm positive, Paul,
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: I think two of them are on Bradbury.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Okay, But regardless whether it's you know, Wilson or Bradbury,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: you know, if it's Wilson, we think that that's a
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: positive so far.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: He's a guy pushing, pushing, a veteran for a starting
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: job right now.
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a I just love how Rabel Bricks broke
- 1:01:21Speaker 8: it down, the good, the bad, and the stuff that
- 1:01:23Speaker 8: gets you believe the beat because it's just like that's
- 1:01:25Speaker 8: so perfect, Like that's exactly what it is. And like
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: some of the throws that like to the caller's point,
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: it has to be perfect, Like some of the throws
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: we were talking about earlier that Drake missed today.
- 1:01:34Speaker 7: That's just the bad. That's not the stuff that gets
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: you beat.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Right now.
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: The stuff that gets you beat is letting Kiro's tongue
- 1:01:39Speaker 8: come through the a gap unblocked. That gets you beat.
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: The box snaps get you beat. There actually haven't been
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: a ton of turnovers. They haven't thrown a ton of picks.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: I think there's only been two picks the whole camp,
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: which is all the quarterbacks, So.
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: That's just straight. I don't think Drake's thrown any.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: He hasn't thrown any yet.
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: Now he's had a couple dropped, but he you know,
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: he hasn't thrown any had some turnover worthy plays. But
- 1:02:00Speaker 8: that's the stuff that gets you beat. The stuff that
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: we're talking about is kind of you know, some of
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: the throws and that's nipicking. Like already kind of had
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: Hunter Henry there and he sailed it a little bit
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: and it was like that that's the bad, and like
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: I'm that stuff's not going to lose you games necessarily
- 1:02:17Speaker 8: like the other stuff will. So that's not perfect, right,
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: Like that's by definition.
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: Yeah, even without the expanding beyond the context of a
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: game and getting beat. It's you know, what issues are
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: they are we seeing in camp that are going to
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: be problems into the season, and what issues which I
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: would think, like the snap are things that are camp
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: clean up stuff like that shouldn't be an issue.
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: If that's an issue, you got major problems.
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: But you know, some of this stuff, I think with
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: the just overall depth and the performance level in important positions,
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: that's the stuff that you're really trying to identify and
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: lock down and figure out what the answers are going
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: to be, because you know, I still think like not
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: that west Schweitzer was the answer, but I think, you know,
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: to have another veteran guard to maybe it played some
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: games at this point, looks like that might be nice
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: to have.
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: Maybe that's something they're on the lookout for.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I have.
- 1:03:01Speaker 8: I don't think that col Strange has been terrible.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: I think he's I think he's been pretty good.
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: Passable grade for him.
- 1:03:07Speaker 8: Like, so I would say, like if it's him and
- 1:03:10Speaker 8: Jared Wilson or Bradbury at center, Like I would still
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: put Jared Wilson at left guard.
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: That's just me.
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: But maybe that's just because I can't get over the
- 1:03:17Speaker 8: whole having a twenty two year old rookie at center
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: like that just worries me. But in general, I think
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: that Cole Strange has been okay. So maybe that is
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: that's your interiors. It's strange Wilson.
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: You know they did it with David Andrews. He was fine.
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: Yeah, but David Andrews was like a four or five
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: year starter at Georgia. Like we were talking about a
- 1:03:37Speaker 8: twenty two year old kid who started twelve games at Georgia,
- 1:03:40Speaker 8: and so like it's just a lot. It's a lot
- 1:03:42Speaker 8: to put on him. And you already have a second
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: year quarterback and there's a lot on his plate. And
- 1:03:47Speaker 8: so it's just you have a very young battery. Like
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: those two guys are very young together. But it doesn't
- 1:03:53Speaker 8: mean they can't do it.
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: Just some of the He's my favorite personality guys personality
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: rookie just listening to he just seems like really well spoken,
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: thought out, you know, has his head on his shoulders,
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: has a good perspective, on things.
- 1:04:07Speaker 10: I like him.

- 1:07:23Speaker 22: You were a rookie with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I believe
- 1:07:28Speaker 22: in your first padded practice, you might have gotten into
- 1:07:31Speaker 22: a fight. Should I assume that you don't want your
- 1:07:35Speaker 22: rookies doing that.
- 1:07:36Speaker 23: I don't want any of us doing that.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: It's a long time ago, Karen.
- 1:07:41Speaker 14: Yeah, can you give a little details?
- 1:07:43Speaker 11: No?
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Okay, you a follow up. Have the players been told
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: that they can't do it? Of course, I mean we don't.
- 1:07:51Speaker 23: I mean we want to be able to practice the
- 1:07:54Speaker 23: same way we have to.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Play, which is physical and within the rules.
- 1:07:57Speaker 23: And I have a great play demeanor, finished through the
- 1:08:00Speaker 23: whistle and all those things. And you know if you
- 1:08:03Speaker 23: throw a punch or you get kicked out of the game,
- 1:08:05Speaker 23: which is going to cross the team. So I don't
- 1:08:08Speaker 23: anticipate any of that. I want us to celebrate with
- 1:08:11Speaker 23: our team, and the defensive unit celebrate with each other.
- 1:08:14Speaker 23: Offensive unit, get excited and celebrate with each other. Now
- 1:08:18Speaker 23: get into the taunting and the things that we would
- 1:08:21Speaker 23: you know that we can't.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Have during the game.
- 1:08:23Speaker 22: Did you at least win?
- 1:08:25Speaker 23: I think I did. It's a good story about don't
- 1:08:32Speaker 23: use the fight. But the about a veteran player, Greg
- 1:08:35Speaker 23: Lloyd was a very dominant player, imposing figure, and I
- 1:08:41Speaker 23: got drafted in April and he didn't say a word
- 1:08:43Speaker 23: to me through OTAs and I'm on the defense, mind you,
- 1:08:47Speaker 23: And so I didn't say a word to me.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: The entire offseason. We go to training camp.
- 1:08:54Speaker 23: You know, there was a fight with me and a
- 1:08:56Speaker 23: tight end and I'm exhausted after practice and I see
- 1:09:00Speaker 23: this like shadow coming over me as I'm sitting in
- 1:09:02Speaker 23: the locker room and he's like in his deep voice
- 1:09:05Speaker 23: and he's like, yeah, the next time, you want to
- 1:09:07Speaker 23: come up underneath the face mask.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: And I was like, you just now are going to
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: talk to me.
- 1:09:11Speaker 23: He's like, yeah, I just wanted to make sure you
- 1:09:13Speaker 23: weren't like a punk, and then I would talk to you.
- 1:09:15Speaker 23: So it's a good example of just a veteran making
- 1:09:18Speaker 23: sure that, you know, rookies kind of earned their stripes,
- 1:09:21Speaker 23: I guess a little bit.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: But with the foundation filled, the cancer far to get
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: to the point of yeah, I think.
- 1:09:28Speaker 23: So you know this will be you know, truthfold will
- 1:09:31Speaker 23: be down in the red zone. We'll be getting a
- 1:09:32Speaker 23: lot of work in the red zone. Things happen a
- 1:09:34Speaker 23: lot quicker down there, Uh, tighter windows, just the speed
- 1:09:39Speaker 23: of everything.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: That could just gets sped up.
- 1:09:41Speaker 23: And so that'll be good for us to move on
- 1:09:44Speaker 23: to that situation as well as to see how we
- 1:09:46Speaker 23: you know, start to practice and pads and our pad level,
- 1:09:49Speaker 23: our fundamentals, our hands and those types of things.
- 1:09:53Speaker 18: Mike, as you share that story and talk about the
- 1:09:55Speaker 18: guy not talking to you for a couple of months
- 1:09:57Speaker 18: while you're together, do you feel like it's different in
- 1:09:59Speaker 18: the NFLER with this specific team now.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I just think that.
- 1:10:02Speaker 23: That was a Greg That was a Greg Lloyd type
- 1:10:05Speaker 23: of thing. I think that's that was certainly his personality.
- 1:10:09Speaker 23: I think that there's you know, you're always trying to,
- 1:10:13Speaker 23: you know, prove yourself to your teammates, especially as a
- 1:10:17Speaker 23: young player, and Greg probably took it a little to extreme.
- 1:10:21Speaker 19: After all these OTAs in the first four days without pad.
- 1:10:24Speaker 8: Your your excitement level today maybe on a scale from
- 1:10:26Speaker 8: one to ten.
- 1:10:29Speaker 23: I just think coming off of a day off, I
- 1:10:31Speaker 23: think this is just another step and in our program.
- 1:10:35Speaker 23: So I try to come out here with the same
- 1:10:37Speaker 23: excitement and give him everything I got and and help them.
- 1:10:42Speaker 23: So this is just another important step throughout the process
- 1:10:46Speaker 23: of preparation. Go ahead, don't you.
- 1:10:51Speaker 22: What's it been like coming Torell Williams back out there
- 1:10:53Speaker 22: with the team defense him?
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Well, you know, he has an energy to him.
- 1:10:58Speaker 23: There's there's you know the players are you know, they
- 1:11:02Speaker 23: respond well to him. And when he you know, he
- 1:11:05Speaker 23: has his clips that he shows them and the things
- 1:11:07Speaker 23: that he thinks are important as a coordinator. You know,
- 1:11:11Speaker 23: I think that they're believing in what we want to
- 1:11:13Speaker 23: do in our style of play, and so just keep
- 1:11:17Speaker 23: moving ahead. And but it's it's great to have him back,
- 1:11:20Speaker 23: just his personality and demeanor.
- 1:11:22Speaker 24: Mike, if you were in our shoes, what would you think,
- 1:11:24Speaker 24: you'd say? You know, you guys should really watch this.
- 1:11:28Speaker 24: You've been doing this for a long time, you know how.
- 1:11:29Speaker 23: I mean if I was the part of the media, Yeah,
- 1:11:31Speaker 23: if you would, like say, you don't think there's ever
- 1:11:33Speaker 23: a scenario where that would happen.
- 1:11:35Speaker 24: Oh, that's absolutely a matter of time. He already did
- 1:11:37Speaker 24: stuff with Felga fifteen years ago.
- 1:11:40Speaker 23: As soon as I'm done with this, I'm gonna be
- 1:11:41Speaker 23: in the witness protection point and you want you will
- 1:11:44Speaker 23: never find me, all.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Right, Well, if you decid you would help us.
- 1:11:47Speaker 23: I mean I just think that how maybe some of
- 1:11:49Speaker 23: these uh you know, to me, it's it's it's critical
- 1:11:53Speaker 23: at a lot of scrimmage, right just being able to
- 1:11:57Speaker 23: make contact, there's going to be a stealmate. There's two
- 1:11:59Speaker 23: professional players lined up across from each other. Who can
- 1:12:03Speaker 23: re engage, who can reset their feet, maybe get a
- 1:12:06Speaker 23: little extra movement. You know, how do we play? Do
- 1:12:12Speaker 23: we stand our feet? Can we practice like this and
- 1:12:14Speaker 23: stand our feet? We've got a bunch of guys falling
- 1:12:16Speaker 23: on the ground. I'd rather not see that. I just
- 1:12:19Speaker 23: don't think that that good teams end up practicing that way.
- 1:12:24Speaker 23: And again, just the urgency in which we move around
- 1:12:27Speaker 23: practice that there's we're in and out of the huddle,
- 1:12:29Speaker 23: the players are running on and off the field. Those
- 1:12:32Speaker 23: are all things that I think are critical. I think
- 1:12:33Speaker 23: that translate to the field to the game.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Excuse me right where you know?
- 1:12:38Speaker 23: You don't you're not standing ten yards behind the ball,
- 1:12:40Speaker 23: You're you're coming from the sideline, and we're communicating the
- 1:12:44Speaker 23: personnel and the quarterback has to echo that. Those are
- 1:12:48Speaker 23: the types of things right now that we're trying to.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Build, like us to be having a pretty strong camp.
- 1:12:53Speaker 10: So what have you seen from him?
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: What have you learned about him with this offseason? Right?
- 1:12:57Speaker 23: Great energy, great demeanor, very cochle one of our off
- 1:13:02Speaker 23: season Award winners, So we obviously worked extremely hard. Was
- 1:13:06Speaker 23: what was here every day, ready to learn, ready to
- 1:13:12Speaker 23: earn a role. And I love being around pop. He's
- 1:13:14Speaker 23: got a great, great energy and it's got a lot
- 1:13:17Speaker 23: of respect from everybody around here.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: It's some one on one that passors result a little
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: bit the other day.
- 1:13:22Speaker 14: How much of that period is for experimentation with new
- 1:13:26Speaker 14: moves or techniques versus the evaluation where guys are really
- 1:13:29Speaker 14: obviously trying to win every rep.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I.
- 1:13:33Speaker 23: Watch it a little bit. I do think that that's
- 1:13:35Speaker 23: probably a great question. One of the players I coached
- 1:13:37Speaker 23: in Houston, Whitney Merciless. You know, we went through some
- 1:13:40Speaker 23: developmental things with him. He was a very talented player.
- 1:13:43Speaker 23: The one thing I always respected about Whitney was his
- 1:13:46Speaker 23: willingness to try new moves during practice and you know, some.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: Of them wouldn't work.
- 1:13:53Speaker 23: Some of them he needed to see at full speed
- 1:13:55Speaker 23: for him to say, you know, that's not something that
- 1:13:57Speaker 23: I'm going to commit a lot of time to. And
- 1:13:59Speaker 23: then others that you worked and that he would commit
- 1:14:01Speaker 23: time to. So that's exactly why you do practice, is
- 1:14:04Speaker 23: so that you can, you know, sometimes figure out what
- 1:14:07Speaker 23: doesn't work and you can eliminate some things and you
- 1:14:09Speaker 23: can move on.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Especially as a pass rusher.
- 1:14:11Speaker 23: Right, you're trying to have a couple of different pitches,
- 1:14:14Speaker 23: not too many, but I certainly need some a fastball
- 1:14:17Speaker 23: and some off speed pitches and some counters. So this
- 1:14:21Speaker 23: is why we practice, is to be able to go
- 1:14:23Speaker 23: out there and do that.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: And I understand you know a lot of those things.
- 1:14:26Speaker 23: And you know when you get to the team periods
- 1:14:29Speaker 23: and you get to the games and you can see
- 1:14:31Speaker 23: how guys pass rush. But you know, I think that's
- 1:14:34Speaker 23: obviously a good thing. The offensive linemen are going to
- 1:14:36Speaker 23: work on different techniques and things like that, so they're
- 1:14:38Speaker 23: not doing the same thing every single snap.
- 1:14:44Speaker 9: And now great moments in history.
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: Are you going for a barbecue?
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: I don't know. I know I'm not a big barbecue guy.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: That's wrong with really.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Now I probably go across the street to like Del
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Frisco's or something.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: Just bring back the memory.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: I hate supuper Bowl week super Bowl which you hate?
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: There three times did expensed everyone's rubber pick?
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: One of the one of them was picked up? What
- 1:15:10Speaker 9: was the what was the go to? Different things?
- 1:15:13Speaker 7: Different things each time? Are the same thing three times?
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: With you might have had.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Different things, ye, keyboard a steak, but the rabbi than
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: the filet i had.
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: Different things, different different parts of the animal.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: But it's literally across the street, so yeah, right there.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: And there's a great breakfast joint on that street too.
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: Oh yeah, your breakfast.
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: Yes, if I ever travel scout, I'm in with you
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: any break right.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: It's called Desserts House of Pie, that's what it's called.
- 1:15:47Speaker 11: I mean, I.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: Like, yes, definitely.
- 1:15:54Speaker 23: That's another great moment from.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: Straight off the practice field.
- 1:16:00Speaker 9: Is kiris tanga kius.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 1:16:02Speaker 9: I'm doing well? How you doing? I'm Fred Kersh. This
- 1:16:06Speaker 9: is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: This is the team's podcast, flagship podcast Current and I'll
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: have you know this is the world's longest running podcast
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: in the world.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: Really yeah, and.
- 1:16:17Speaker 9: I'm not kidding, that's true.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: Part Frank started it, really yeah, back in two thousands.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: He's a little he's a little older than me.
- 1:16:24Speaker 9: Yeah, a little bit, just a little bit.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: So, how the thing's going for you?
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: It's going well, everything's going well, yes, sir, Sorry, that's
- 1:16:31Speaker 9: all right. Good things are going good, sir.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: All right, So you've been around a couple of different teams,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: any differences on how teams do things in training camp
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: or you know, is it pretty much the same?
- 1:16:45Speaker 9: You know, every team is usually kind of the same.
- 1:16:48Speaker 25: They have they have their own little flavors to how
- 1:16:50Speaker 25: they like their schedules. But but here, yeah, it's been
- 1:16:53Speaker 25: very well, you know, being because variable and how he
- 1:16:56Speaker 25: runs it. He's so I mean he's been in the
- 1:16:58Speaker 25: league and he's been a player in this league, so
- 1:17:00Speaker 25: he understands kind of the how the body works for
- 1:17:04Speaker 25: players on these long camp days.
- 1:17:06Speaker 9: So it's so.
- 1:17:07Speaker 25: Cool to see him tweak schedules and kind of fit
- 1:17:10Speaker 25: into our so that we can get the best out
- 1:17:12Speaker 25: of and the most out of everything that we do.
- 1:17:14Speaker 9: So it's been it's been very cool.
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: I mean, that's interesting. Was there a little bit of
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: a tweak today?
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: Because it did seem yesterday you guys were very active
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: bouncing around. Today it did seem to be a little
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: bit of a lower pace. Was that a tweak to
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: the schedule?
- 1:17:26Speaker 25: Yeah, I think just him knowing like, okay, we got
- 1:17:29Speaker 25: full pads and making sure our legers are good and
- 1:17:32Speaker 25: the days we got to run long, he's gonna make
- 1:17:34Speaker 25: sure we're good before the days we got the short
- 1:17:37Speaker 25: yard is stuff, make sure that we're using that full
- 1:17:40Speaker 25: maximum effort in those short yardis. So he does a
- 1:17:43Speaker 25: very good job of taking care of us.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he comes off as a tough guy
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: and all that, and he was I mean I was
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: here when he was playing.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: He was a tough guy and he is a tough guy.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: But he does have that care for the players, like
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: there's no sense in beating everybody up in the first
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: last week of July. You know, so like I I,
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: you know, I would think players appreciate that exactly, Yes, sir,
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: we do.
- 1:18:05Speaker 9: Yeah, we definitely.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: And it was hot out there today, Yeah, it's going
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: to be hot out there tomorrow.
- 1:18:10Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: So defensively, you're one of them. A lot of new
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: faces and a new scheme for New England. I know,
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: your first year here anyway, So just curious to your
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: thoughts about how those pieces are coming together, your initial thoughts.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: You're about a weekend to training camp now, just how
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: that front seven specifically is coming together.
- 1:18:28Speaker 25: Yeah, we're stacking these days kind of like our coach,
- 1:18:32Speaker 25: he really harps on just being able to go out
- 1:18:35Speaker 25: and just be consistent and how we are.
- 1:18:37Speaker 9: Some days are gonna be bad.
- 1:18:38Speaker 25: We're gonna have some bad plays and some days are
- 1:18:40Speaker 25: gonna be very very well. However, that list we just
- 1:18:43Speaker 25: got continued to stack, and I think for our front
- 1:18:46Speaker 25: seven that's kind of been the theme, just continuing to work,
- 1:18:49Speaker 25: feed off each other, learn from one another, and it's
- 1:18:51Speaker 25: been it's been working very well so far.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so you guys did a little bit of red
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: zone today, but even though you're in full path, there's
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: still not like one hundred percent.
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: Going to the ground yet and all that stuff.
- 1:19:04Speaker 25: Yeah, that's the only thing we're not doing. Everything else
- 1:19:06Speaker 25: to that point is full speed one hundred percent. We're
- 1:19:09Speaker 25: just not throwing guys on the ground so we can
- 1:19:11Speaker 25: get take care of each other.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: Right, So, as a space heater up front, like, is
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: there a point in practice or in training camps in
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: the past where you get to, Okay, this is now,
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: I can do what I do, you know, Like I'm
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: goal line for example.
- 1:19:25Speaker 25: I love goal line just just being that mentality of
- 1:19:29Speaker 25: they got to gain one yard and you being the
- 1:19:31Speaker 25: person that they got to move. It brings it brings
- 1:19:34Speaker 25: out a chip and some of them, like like me
- 1:19:36Speaker 25: and those d linemen, But I think just anywhere on
- 1:19:39Speaker 25: the field really if it's third down, second down, goal line,
- 1:19:43Speaker 25: just being able to go out and just do your
- 1:19:45Speaker 25: job is very exciting.
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: So you have you know, Milton Williams and Christian Barmore,
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: and they're a little bit of a different sort.
- 1:19:53Speaker 9: Of body type than you.
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: They're a little bit you know, smaller and more penetrating,
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: you know, past rushing. You are more of a space
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: seeding run stopper, right and that, yeah, sir, that be accurate.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: So I'm just how does that dynamic work with you guys?
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: How well do you think you guys complimentary each other.
- 1:20:11Speaker 9: I think it works very well. We get to feed
- 1:20:14Speaker 9: off one another.
- 1:20:15Speaker 25: I think, just like you said, the get offs, Moon
- 1:20:17Speaker 25: william is really good at doing that, and I think
- 1:20:20Speaker 25: being able to show the room that's possible and and
- 1:20:24Speaker 25: even if your nose, you can still get off in
- 1:20:26Speaker 25: this league. And so just having that confidence and teammates
- 1:20:29Speaker 25: like Million just helping you out that makes it so
- 1:20:31Speaker 25: much easier. And then with bar More, he's just a freak,
- 1:20:35Speaker 25: so he's he's such an athletic free that he can
- 1:20:37Speaker 25: play the position inside and out, and just seeing that
- 1:20:40Speaker 25: the same things, just learning from him and being able
- 1:20:42Speaker 25: to feed off one another.
- 1:20:44Speaker 9: It's been. It's been amazing.
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: Now, when Christian gets really excited and starts talking really fast,
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: do you have any idea what he's saying?
- 1:20:50Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, Sometimes you just gotta let him talk.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: Yeah, he's transcribe.
- 1:20:55Speaker 25: Anytimes he just he talking. He gonna talk And I
- 1:20:58Speaker 25: love that about being more man.
- 1:21:00Speaker 9: He's amazing.
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: So how do you what do you think of New England?
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: What have you know, how do you like living here
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: so far?
- 1:21:05Speaker 9: You know, New England has been cool.
- 1:21:07Speaker 25: It's been such a different vibe from the West Coast,
- 1:21:11Speaker 25: but you know, I love it out here. Scenery wise, beautiful,
- 1:21:14Speaker 25: team wise, it's been very welcoming from players standpoint, and
- 1:21:18Speaker 25: the coach has been very cool and in the in
- 1:21:20Speaker 25: the fans have been very welcoming and very nice. So
- 1:21:23Speaker 25: it's been, it's been. It's been good.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: Now you've been settled in you you mentioned because I
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: was listening to your talk out there.
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: Have you gotten your family here too?
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Or four year old?
- 1:21:32Speaker 9: Yeah? I got a yeah, four year old.
- 1:21:35Speaker 25: Now during the camps it's kind of hard because it's
- 1:21:37Speaker 25: so far and you know, yeah, yeah, So I usually
- 1:21:40Speaker 25: try to bring them out during the season, same as
- 1:21:42Speaker 25: my siblings and my parents. They try to come out
- 1:21:44Speaker 25: during the season, so during camp time, it's just we're
- 1:21:47Speaker 25: locked in and no family around, so it kind of makes.
- 1:21:50Speaker 9: It a little easy.
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: And you also were one of the off season award winners.
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: I saw this moting you know what what went into that?
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: And you know, does that I assume that's a point
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: of pride for you.
- 1:22:00Speaker 25: Yeah, you know it's Ah, it was pretty cool. I
- 1:22:02Speaker 25: was shocked only because everybody was working and literally anybody
- 1:22:07Speaker 25: could have gotten that word like this OTAs was. Everybody
- 1:22:10Speaker 25: was just go, go, go, and we were feeding off
- 1:22:12Speaker 25: each other, so and that and just coming into camp
- 1:22:15Speaker 25: the same mentality and nothing's changed, Like it's been cool.
- 1:22:18Speaker 25: But everybody's working. You see it on the field, so
- 1:22:21Speaker 25: it's it's been pretty Uh it was good though.
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: You must have had the neatest locker or something like that.
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: You must have done something.
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: There were only four guys, just one of them.
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: You must have done something.
- 1:22:31Speaker 9: Man, it was just working. It's just working.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: As fans, we love to hear that, and uh, we
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: love seeing seeing you here.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: Appreciate you coming by and all you got stuff to do,
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: get showered up and get some food in you and
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: get ready for the meetings this afternoon.
- 1:22:45Speaker 9: So I appreciate you guys for having me. Thank you, Yeah,
- 1:22:48Speaker 9: thanks so much. I appreciate it.
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: All right, Kyrius Tanga, we'll be right back after this.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: All right, we're back here on Patriots Nfit Altered. That
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: was Paul and myself's interview with Kiris Tanga. Real nice guy,
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: as you could see, it's real nice.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: I listen to him a little bit outside as well.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: And the big man in the middle. Yep, he's going
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: to be a big part of that.
- 1:23:11Speaker 8: Yeah, sneaky player, I think, Yeah, I think he's kind
- 1:23:14Speaker 8: of one of one. Yeah, exactly what I was about
- 1:23:17Speaker 8: to say.
- 1:23:17Speaker 7: He's the only guy on the team that does what
- 1:23:18Speaker 7: he does.
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I kind of.
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: I didn't want to necessarily throw any of his teammates
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: under the bus when I asked him that question, but
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: that's kind of what I was talking about, Like, you know,
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: Milton Williams and Barmore different kinds of players, even though
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: you guys all played the same position. And he was like, yeah, no, no,
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: you're right, you're right, And I was like, you have
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: more of a run stuffing space eater, And I didn't
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: want to say you don't really have any breed and well, no,
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: I didn't want to say, you don't really have anybody
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: else like that, right, because they kind of got rid
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: of most of the bigger defensive lineman.
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: They have a lot of athletic defensive.
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: Tackles they got.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: I don't want to put words in him one, but
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: this is kind of how you would prefer it. Like,
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: you know, you're a big fan of you know, paint
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: Devon Godshaw, who is like a high priced tongue.
- 1:24:00Speaker 7: I want to stop their on on the way to
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: the quarterback.
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: I yeah, I mean, I just feel like if the
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: other team wants to try to beat you running the ball,
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: I think it in general will work to the Patriots'
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: favor because I think it'll keep the score down and
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: you don't have an offense that's necessarily conducive right now
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: to getting in thirty five point shootouts. Yeah, so I
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: think if team wants to run the ball and they
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: give because I do think that they have a chance
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: to be a little bit leaky against the run. So
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: they're smaller front seven, you know.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: With him, like I think he was a seventh round
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: draft pick or something like that, and he started playing
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: special teams and things like that. But over the court,
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Like I think last year was the most games he's
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: played in, so that's kind of a good thing. Like
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: he's been on a lot of teams, but like he
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: got more playing time recently than early in his career.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Like he's built toward that. So maybe maybe he could
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: be a sneaky contributor to the defense.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Who knows.
- 1:24:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I think unfortunately for him, like he said, dying
- 1:24:57Speaker 8: breed like that.
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: Oh no, but there will be times where you know,
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: situation or don't.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: I don't talk about every play situationally where we've got
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: to make this stop. It's you know, third inches or
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: around the goal or whatever, and they put him in.
- 1:25:11Speaker 8: Yep, it just doesn't you know what I Mormant was like,
- 1:25:15Speaker 8: that's not a very sought after commodity in today's NFL.
- 1:25:19Speaker 8: So you're not seeing a lot of nose tackles drafted
- 1:25:22Speaker 8: high anymore. Like Vince Wilfork is a first round pick,
- 1:25:24Speaker 8: Like you'd have to be that dominant probably to get
- 1:25:27Speaker 8: drafted in the top.
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: Fifty these days.
- 1:25:29Speaker 8: Yeah, Like it's just not a position that lends itself
- 1:25:32Speaker 8: to that. But situationally, whether it's just end of game,
- 1:25:37Speaker 8: four minute offense. They're trying to close out the game.
- 1:25:39Speaker 8: You're trying to get a stop. They you know, they're
- 1:25:41Speaker 8: going to run the ball goal line, third down, fourth down,
- 1:25:45Speaker 8: Like those are spots where I could see Milton Williams
- 1:25:48Speaker 8: coming off the field maybe for a Cairis Tongo or
- 1:25:51Speaker 8: you know someone like that.
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: That's well, that's where I was just about to go
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: av was who is the someone like that? That's what
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: I'm curious about. You know, Tong is gonna have a
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: real you know, Williams and Barber will have big roles.
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: But I think what we're seeing a little bit of
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: is Jeremiah Farms maybe or could you know Farmer the
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: draft pick, Josh Farmer from Florida State.
- 1:26:09Speaker 7: I haven't seen much from him just yet.
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: It still seems like today Jeremiah Farms is the guy,
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: the next guy up with that group.
- 1:26:17Speaker 7: So we'll see how that continues to progress.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: Podcasts at Patriots dot Com is the way to email us.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: Linda from Georgia right Sid made it to camp today
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: to see everything in person and form some opinions what's
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: going to be the twenty five pat season. Also got
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: to meet Evan before practice. As a bonus, Jerry took
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: a selfie. Nice her husband.
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: We're here and they're both fans of the show. I
- 1:26:38Speaker 7: think he's an ex husband.
- 1:26:39Speaker 23: Now, Evan.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: Oh after that.
- 1:26:40Speaker 7: Oh so I'm also.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: Now to football. I thought the rotation for offensive side
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: was notable. O line, left, guard and center. Changes That
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: look like they're going for the best combo. This is
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: the time of year to do that, and it helps
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: find the next man up should injuries happen, as they might.
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: Wide receiver lots of changes with each formation too, with
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: multiple lineups to block or be a decoy for the defense.
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: Running back.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Good to see them securing the ball with two hands
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: on almost every possession. Good sign for the group tight end.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: Great to see Hooper in the mix again. What do
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: you say anything I missed for these positions? Tomorrow I'll
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: be looking for a defense from the stands and get
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: my opinion formed there.
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: That's all good stuff. I mean, that's, you know, kind
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: of what we're telling you. But if you need further confirmation,
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: that's that's.
- 1:27:31Speaker 7: How it goes in camp. It's you know, it's hard.
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: You don't want to overreact every time you see this
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: is a bad example. But Fton Chisholm all of a
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: sudden is out for a rep. You know, you don't
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: want to, oh my god, it's happening, But you see
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: a few days a guy starts to like Jerry Wilson.
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: You know, you start to see.
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: Him expanding his role a little bit more. You start
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: to track those things. That's what it really I've been
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: watching and some of these injuries that have offered opportunities
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: for other guys. That's what makes it interesting to me,
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: is I look at my NERD depth chart and start
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: to put together, you know, how to they see the team?
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: Who's the next guy up? You know, at this position?
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: How would they you know if right tackle went out
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: or if Trey jcobs? How would you know those questions?
- 1:28:07Speaker 5: How would they affect the inevitable kind of juggling you
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: always end up doing a rosters.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Colleen from Houston says about the box snaps, it seems
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: like the common denominator is Drake. Has Dobbs received a
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: box snap? Could it be Drake who's messing up the
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: snap and not the center? Yes, that was the thing
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: last year too, regardless of the center.
- 1:28:26Speaker 8: Yeah, yep, I definitely think that that's there's a chance
- 1:28:30Speaker 8: of that and it just goes back. I mean, he
- 1:28:31Speaker 8: did more last year. But like these college quarterbacks are
- 1:28:35Speaker 8: not under center. They don't take snaps from under center
- 1:28:38Speaker 8: in the college game anymore. Everybody runs spread, everybody runs gun.
- 1:28:41Speaker 8: Like the amount of times, like some of these teams
- 1:28:44Speaker 8: are so anti under center they kneel from the shotgun
- 1:28:48Speaker 8: like they had it's a shotgun snap into a quarterback
- 1:28:51Speaker 8: neal at the end of the game. That's how allergic
- 1:28:55Speaker 8: these teams are to going under center. So Drake May,
- 1:28:59Speaker 8: you could probably count on two hands the amount of
- 1:29:01Speaker 8: times that he was under center at North Carolina. It
- 1:29:03Speaker 8: just doesn't happen. So for a lot of these young quarterbacks,
- 1:29:07Speaker 8: it's an adjustment. But the other question that I've always
- 1:29:10Speaker 8: had with it is do they eventually just adjust to
- 1:29:13Speaker 8: him right, Like, Okay, if you're really not comfortable doing this,
- 1:29:17Speaker 8: maybe we go to the pistol, maybe we go more
- 1:29:20Speaker 8: shotgun heavy offense, and we build it around the fact
- 1:29:23Speaker 8: that you're not necessarily comfortable being an under center quarterback.
- 1:29:27Speaker 8: Because they're teams that have done that too, you know,
- 1:29:29Speaker 8: Philadelphia with Jalen Hurts, Like the only times that the
- 1:29:31Speaker 8: eagles are under center at the touch push.
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: Yeah, that's it.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: So Colleen could be onto something there one of those
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: box snaps. I did notice it was up here, so
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: I don't know what, Like, how do you go from
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: under center and it ends up up on your shoulder?
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: But it could be like you just mishandled it and
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: it flew up over his shoulder.
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: Yeah, there were there were some low snaps and shotgun too.
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: I think part of the appeal to me, though, of
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: Jared Wilson is Drake, get your hands on up under
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: his butt, get used to it. The next ten years
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: that you guys are going to be a married couple
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: like this are going to grow together. If they could
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: somehow get on the same page with that stuff, that'd
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: be you know, part of the appeal to me of
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: having a young center that he can grow with and
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: can get used to having his.
- 1:30:13Speaker 7: Hands up there. I mean ideally he gets.
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: The way talks about it. It's a little dirty, yeah,
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: having his hands up here, up there.
- 1:30:23Speaker 8: Yeah, you would like to be able to go under center?
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I imagine John the action.
- 1:30:27Speaker 8: Advantages are palpable or statistically proven, like you'd want to
- 1:30:32Speaker 8: be able to do that at at least like a
- 1:30:35Speaker 8: twenty five to thirty percent clip.
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: Can't imagine Josh would say that our playbook will be
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: really limited if we're unable to do that.
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: Why do you think it does?
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: Why do you think the stats do bear that out?
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: Is it because it gives an advantage to the runner
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: to be able to get a good look at things
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: before he takes off, or like, why is.
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: It they're coming?
- 1:30:53Speaker 8: Well, I think the main reason is the running backs
- 1:30:55Speaker 8: coming from deeper in the backfield, so he has a
- 1:30:57Speaker 8: run up to the line of scrimmage, whereas when he's
- 1:30:59Speaker 8: in the shot gun, he's starting from a stagnant stance,
- 1:31:02Speaker 8: so he's not I.
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: Used to get made fun of when I talked about that,
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: When I said that he's starting from a dead start.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: Paul would make fun of me.
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: A dead start, yes, I did.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: Well, that's the same thing as stagnant, dead start, stagnant
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: or a dead stop.
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: What do you think?
- 1:31:18Speaker 7: Oh, this not so much.
- 1:31:23Speaker 6: Argument, which you think it was?
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: I didn't know, Like, I get what Fred's saying, that's right, right,
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: but no dead start.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: It was one of those just kind of was a
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: funny phrase and me and Andy took notice of it,
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: and you know, you don't think it.
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: Was anything relevant.
- 1:31:40Speaker 8: Behind the quarterback under center's eight yards in the backfield.
- 1:31:43Speaker 8: So now Remandre has eight yards of a running start
- 1:31:45Speaker 8: into the line of scrimmage, so he's moving a lot
- 1:31:48Speaker 8: faster at the point of attack.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: But if you're at shotgun, now the quarterback is five
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: or six yards back and he hands it to the
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: running back, you're still.
- 1:31:57Speaker 8: But the running back doesn't have our head start like
- 1:32:00Speaker 8: the running back, and under center is running before he
- 1:32:02Speaker 8: even has the ball.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: Oh, so he's running to the quarterback.
- 1:32:05Speaker 8: Correct, because they're going to meet up the junk kings.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:32:07Speaker 8: But the other thing that's really big is play action
- 1:32:10Speaker 8: because when you're under center, you turn around and you
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: turn your back to the defense and you can hide
- 1:32:15Speaker 8: the ball, whereas if you're in the shotgun, the defense
- 1:32:18Speaker 8: can see the football.
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:32:19Speaker 8: So that's why RPOs became a thing. Not to go
- 1:32:22Speaker 8: down the whole rabbit hole, but that's so RPOs became
- 1:32:24Speaker 8: a thing because it teams that were gun heavy, like
- 1:32:27Speaker 8: in college, they had to find a way to be
- 1:32:29Speaker 8: more effective with play action from the gun because they
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: couldn't do it like you do it from me.
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: What about the fact that on the shotgun the ball
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: gets to the running back faster.
- 1:32:38Speaker 8: Well, I mean that could I guess you could say
- 1:32:40Speaker 8: that's an advantage in the other direction. But I think
- 1:32:43Speaker 8: most of the time the advantages of being under center,
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: oh weigh that, Okay, I would say, all right, especially
- 1:32:49Speaker 8: just from like a running back perspective.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: And to your point, Fred, like I can tell you
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: pushing back, which I like. Obviously, the things that are
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: an advantage of being under center are not necessarily viewed
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: as outweighing the benefits of the vast majority of teams
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: are gun more often than.
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: Not, right, or at least a high percentage.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: Yes, So if it was such a big advantage, I
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: think more teams would say, no, we have to do
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: this right.
- 1:33:15Speaker 8: You know, it's a big advantage for the run game.
- 1:33:18Speaker 8: In play action, if you want to be like a
- 1:33:19Speaker 8: traditional play action team. Now, a lot of offenses nowadays
- 1:33:23Speaker 8: run the pistol, which is the perfect medium. It's right
- 1:33:27Speaker 8: in the middle because you still have the back behind
- 1:33:29Speaker 8: the quarterback, and you can still turn and hide the
- 1:33:33Speaker 8: ball when you turn in the pistol.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: So the pistol, you're just closer to the center.
- 1:33:40Speaker 8: Well the running back is directly behind the quarterback instead
- 1:33:42Speaker 8: of offset like he is in the gun. So like
- 1:33:45Speaker 8: Miami is Shanahan Tree, you know, Mike McDaniel, but Tua
- 1:33:49Speaker 8: doesn't like going under center because he's so short. So
- 1:33:52Speaker 8: what they do is they put to in the pistol
- 1:33:55Speaker 8: and then they run all the same actions that like
- 1:33:57Speaker 8: Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay run from under center, but
- 1:33:59Speaker 8: they it from the pistol. So there's just different there's
- 1:34:02Speaker 8: different ways that you can do it. And I've been
- 1:34:04Speaker 8: clamoring for the Patriots to run more pistol because I
- 1:34:06Speaker 8: don't think Drake is great from under center.
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: And the slingshot for example, like in between the pistol
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: and under.
- 1:34:13Speaker 7: Center, that has not been invented.
- 1:34:16Speaker 8: But if you there's like there's different variations of like
- 1:34:21Speaker 8: you know, ways that they have like the side car
- 1:34:23Speaker 8: right where you have like a lead blocker is offset
- 1:34:26Speaker 8: and then the running backs behind the quarterback and you
- 1:34:28Speaker 8: kind of have a three man backfield. And the Ravens
- 1:34:31Speaker 8: do that a lot. But there's not a slingshot.
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: No, no, what a bow and arrow.
- 1:34:36Speaker 18: No.
- 1:34:36Speaker 8: You can invent it though, if you want to tell
- 1:34:39Speaker 8: Josh maybe, by.
- 1:34:40Speaker 7: The way, do we ever figure out your no Lampy today?
- 1:34:44Speaker 7: I don't want to talk about it. I don't want
- 1:34:47Speaker 7: to talk about it.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: No, no brock Lampy, No brock Lampy, no full back in.
- 1:34:51Speaker 8: There was some speculation from from Paul's people from the
- 1:34:55Speaker 8: media tent well they cut them.
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: How could they do that this day after Pats That
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: seems I mean, it would be disappointed.
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: I say, no, it's in Toronto, he says.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: I'm worried that I haven't heard anything about the QB
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: run game slash read options. Do you think this is
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: coming soon? Or are we going to hamstring ourselves again
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: this year?
- 1:35:16Speaker 8: I just talked about it earlier and they did a
- 1:35:18Speaker 8: ton of it today. I don't want to give away
- 1:35:20Speaker 8: too much, but they did it today.
- 1:35:22Speaker 7: It's in the back.
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: The Jets have re signed Nick Folk.
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: Everybody for him that's.
- 1:35:29Speaker 9: Plays.
- 1:35:30Speaker 7: When's the weel going to fall off the bus with him?
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: Like he's just going to keep kicking field goals?
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: Well, he's on the Jets.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: So now Randy's in Providence. What's up, Randy?
- 1:35:39Speaker 7: Randy, Hey, how's it going?
- 1:35:44Speaker 16: So I've got two questions.
- 1:35:47Speaker 20: For you guys.
- 1:35:47Speaker 11: Regarding the position battles there Borgles versus Parker Romo, it
- 1:35:54Speaker 11: sounds like the reporting through the past couple of days,
- 1:35:57Speaker 11: but it's kind of lean more towards Parker Roma. And
- 1:36:01Speaker 11: I was watching the after practice interview, I think would
- 1:36:05Speaker 11: work all this the other day, and it's just like
- 1:36:08Speaker 11: and maybe I'm reading into it too much or whatever,
- 1:36:10Speaker 11: but he was like, oh, yeah, you know, I got
- 1:36:13Speaker 11: a good foot on the ball, but it didn't go in.
- 1:36:15Speaker 11: But that's fine because I got a good foot on
- 1:36:17Speaker 11: the ball. And it just seemed to me, like that's
- 1:36:20Speaker 11: not the result that you want. You don't the result
- 1:36:24Speaker 11: that you're pursuing is three points at one point.
- 1:36:27Speaker 15: It's not getting a good.
- 1:36:28Speaker 11: Foot on the ball, and sometimes you gotta you know,
- 1:36:30Speaker 11: like anticipate those sorts of things, and again not getting
- 1:36:34Speaker 11: a minutia kicking, but like, it just didn't seem like
- 1:36:37Speaker 11: there was a lot of lot of caring about the
- 1:36:41Speaker 11: result from him.
- 1:36:43Speaker 8: I sort of understand that though, Randy, because like kicking
- 1:36:46Speaker 8: is it's it's almost like a golf swing, like it's
- 1:36:48Speaker 8: repetitive stroke and you just want the stroke to look
- 1:36:50Speaker 8: exactly the same, and you want your routine to be
- 1:36:52Speaker 8: exactly the same. So like if you're having a repeat,
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: repetitive stroke, then the results usually come. It's when like
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: one time you're you know, you're leaning this way, one
- 1:37:02Speaker 8: time you're leaning that way. That's when thanks the shanks
- 1:37:04Speaker 8: start to happen.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: I think what he's basically telling you is I feel like,
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: if I hit it like this a hundred times, I'm gonna.
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: Make ninety five of them.
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: Yeah, like it's gonna happen. It's I think the golf
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: analogy is a perfect one. I've done that a million
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: times as a hacker. I might be, you know, one
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: hundred and fifty yards and I hit my iron and
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: I hit it flush, and I you know, I just
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: hit it a little bit left of the green or
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: right of the green. I'm like, I'm okay with that.
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: I'm not on the green. That's what I was trying
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: to do. But I hit it the way I normally
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: want to hit it. And I think if I hit
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: it like that every time, more often than not, it's
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: going to go on the green. And I bet you
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: that's what he meant is if I hit him like
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: that all the time, more often than not, we're going
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: to be happy.
- 1:37:44Speaker 8: I always hear the golf and when you talk to
- 1:37:46Speaker 8: special teams, coordinators and stuff, they always use golf. It's
- 1:37:49Speaker 8: just a repetitive swing. You want the stroke to look
- 1:37:51Speaker 8: exactly the same every single time. And now those are
- 1:37:54Speaker 8: the best kickers. The best kickers, they don't change even
- 1:37:57Speaker 8: if they're kicking from like sixty like and they're trying
- 1:37:59Speaker 8: to it's a.
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: Change in trajectory.
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: Though, if you're going longer, you need to kind of
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: drive it a little bit more.
- 1:38:06Speaker 7: Maybe, but you can't heal it as high.
- 1:38:09Speaker 8: The legs swing, they the steps and the whole process
- 1:38:13Speaker 8: of getting the ball off the ground. They want to
- 1:38:15Speaker 8: keep it the same.
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: Now to Randy's you know, initial concern, I would say,
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: it's just you know, small.
- 1:38:23Speaker 11: See.
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: I do think Romo has been a little bit better.
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: We talked about this earlier in the show, and there
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: have been times where I haven't felt Borgallis hit it
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: quote unquote the way.
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: I don't think he got a good foot on every
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: one of these misses. You know, to use Bora Gallis's terminology,
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: I think he's struggled a little bit with that golf
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: swing trying to get there.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: Like I don't know how close you know, we can
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: actually see. But when he had those, when the ball
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: just didn't look right coming off? Was the placement of
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: the ball right, you know, like I don't know, A.
- 1:38:54Speaker 6: Lot goes into it.
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's that like ten to four, you know
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: that that sideway.
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I know what you're saying. It looks like a
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: buckle ball.
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: Sometimes I just don't get the jump, Like, I don't
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: think any of his balls look like that in college.
- 1:39:06Speaker 7: Like is it the different ball or.
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: I don't know, it could be, you know, or like.
- 1:39:10Speaker 7: I said, I take an adjustment to kick it, laces out.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: All that type of stuff is a little bit, you know,
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: left to right.
- 1:39:17Speaker 7: I never hear much. I mean I've worked here for
- 1:39:19Speaker 7: six years now.
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: I've never really heard much about the change in ball
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: from college kball, Well, from college to the pros.
- 1:39:26Speaker 8: And it is bigger ball.
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: Yeah, is the college ball a little fatter?
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: Shorter and fat.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: They're basically the same size, but they're yeah, a little
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: bit different. The consistency is different. Shorter and fatter in college.
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: And you're looking for a consistent strokes.
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I don't know where that came from.
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: Well, it's just effects you're going to have a consistent
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: stroke to a short, fat one.
- 1:39:46Speaker 7: It's not Wow. I was going to say something serious too.
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: But pros are longer.
- 1:39:53Speaker 7: Sorry, I let myself down there.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: Just long.
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: That's exactly how I.
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: Was feeling, like I really just listen. Size matter.
- 1:40:00Speaker 26: Okay, well it does, and not enough players talk about, like,
- 1:40:04Speaker 26: you know, all of a sudden, like I can't imagine
- 1:40:05Speaker 26: going from college hockey to pro hockey and the buck's
- 1:40:07Speaker 26: a little bit longer now. I mean, all of a sudden,
- 1:40:10Speaker 26: I had this great snapshot and now it kind of
- 1:40:12Speaker 26: comes out the stick funny, and I'm just won't stop.
- 1:40:14Speaker 8: Like the three point line of basketball in college it's shorter.
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: Yeah, the NBA, he used to it.
- 1:40:19Speaker 7: But people never really talk about like now the ball
- 1:40:21Speaker 7: is a little weird for me.
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: No one ever says that I agree with you. You don't
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: hear a lot of people talking.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: When I was about to bring this up two seconds ago,
- 1:40:30Speaker 5: I had to like do mental inventories, like the ball
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: is different.
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: Maybe we should get Bory Allison here.
- 1:40:33Speaker 7: We'll ask us Jeremy Springer, what do you like it's
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: short and fat or the long?
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: We changed the college ball. It's not different anymore now.
- 1:40:41Speaker 8: I do remember in those Friday press conferences last year
- 1:40:44Speaker 8: with Jeremy Springer where there would be like five of us,
- 1:40:46Speaker 8: you know, people that actually stay for the Special Teams coach,
- 1:40:49Speaker 8: and he congratulations. He actually talked about the different holds,
- 1:40:53Speaker 8: like there are different holes and certain kickers depending on
- 1:40:56Speaker 8: the conditions and stuff like that. The way that the
- 1:40:59Speaker 8: ball is literally pointed and held can be different. And
- 1:41:04Speaker 8: I know it sounds silly and like I'm making excuses
- 1:41:06Speaker 8: for him, but like there's a chance that him and
- 1:41:09Speaker 8: Bearinger are still in the lab like trying to figure
- 1:41:12Speaker 8: out exactly how he likes the ball to be held.
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: Distance matters, wind conditions matter, the surface sometimes matters on
- 1:41:19Speaker 8: the field. So like these things do factor into all.
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: This when you need them.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: And I was expecting was just to magically appear like
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: I dream Egenie like smoke and then he's like, is
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: someone talking kicking?
- 1:41:32Speaker 8: It's funny, it's the basic as much as we all
- 1:41:37Speaker 8: just kind of ran all this stuff off, like that's
- 1:41:40Speaker 8: the Special team's coach, Like this is their job, and so,
- 1:41:43Speaker 8: like like any job, they know all the minutia of
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: like all the details of the different holes and all
- 1:41:48Speaker 8: this kind of stuff.
- 1:41:49Speaker 7: So maybe maybe.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: That's I just did a quick Google search and they
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: are roughly the same.
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: College footballs are.
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: Generally winning the same length and circumference range NFL footballs,
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: but can vary more due to different manufacturers. And it
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: talks about, you know, it's twenty seven to twenty eight
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: and a half around.
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: They get the stripe. Maybe that makes it look shorter.
- 1:42:14Speaker 6: I like the stripe.
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: I like this. Do you like the stripe?
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: I do too.
- 1:42:17Speaker 7: When I buy a backyard football, I'm looking.
- 1:42:20Speaker 6: I'm going to the weight, the pressure. It's you can
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: tell the spiral stripe.
- 1:42:25Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: Eldred's on the line. What's up, Eldredge?
- 1:42:30Speaker 7: There we go?
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: All right, hey.
- 1:42:35Speaker 14: Talks up on the report yesterday. I normally get to
- 1:42:39Speaker 14: the show. But how bad is gun?
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Though?
- 1:42:42Speaker 14: And they did it? Pope showed out a little bit,
- 1:42:45Speaker 14: so I'm like.
- 1:42:46Speaker 11: Here we go.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: Well, Gonzo, according to the reports, Uh, it's a hamstring.
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: It won't threaten his availability for the season, but they're
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: gonna just take it easy on him right now and
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: let him rest. But it's nothing major. It's it is
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: a hamstring. Hamstring tweak according to Jordan Schultzer.
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: So just three minutes ago, Karen greg And I'm told
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: the Patriots aren't sure how long top corner Christian Gonzalez
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: will be out with a hamstring injury.
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: They're just taking a quote day by day.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so day by day for him and then Polke,
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: I don't know if catching a pass is showing up.
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: I mean there's there is no scenario that you could
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: say polk has been showing out. He's back on the
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: practice field the last two days, which is a really
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: positive sign for him just getting back into it.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:30Speaker 7: Yeah, No, I mean one passed yesterday and I think
- 1:43:32Speaker 7: one pass with a Tuesday.
- 1:43:33Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:43:33Speaker 8: And the touchdown that he was as schemed open as
- 1:43:36Speaker 8: you can possibly be.
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: It was very similar for people that didn't see it
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: the touchdown that he caught last year in Chicago.
- 1:43:42Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: Actually he had a good catch, thanks Aldrea.
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: I don't know it was a catch for sure. It
- 1:43:46Speaker 5: seemed like he thought it was a catch, but the
- 1:43:48Speaker 5: far end zone back left like it was.
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: I don't know. It was now the one where he
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: jumped out of bounce.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: See I didn't I nitpicked that one because that was
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: the play that Drake was extending, you know, he was
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: running around and Poke ran himself out of bounds, like
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: all of a sudden, like you're trying to get open
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: for your guy, and you know, the sideline becomes the
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: second defender on you, like moved to where there's more space.
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: He just ran out of room.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:44:15Speaker 7: I came to it later, but I thought maybe he
- 1:44:17Speaker 7: was open.
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: He seemed like he thought he was open.
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: I'm with you his touchdown, I mean it should have been.
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: There were two occasions last year.
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: About.
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: The one we were talking about together where you could
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: get me there. We were talking about the one we
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: all talked about together where we were like, oh that
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: was out of bound.
- 1:44:35Speaker 7: Yeah that was clearly I know you're joking about that.
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: It wasn't even close.
- 1:44:41Speaker 7: He'll take guess. I don't know, so he'll.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: Emorys in Virginia, what's Emery? What's up?
- 1:44:46Speaker 10: Emory could have put it afternoon, gentlemen. Hey, you guys
- 1:44:51Speaker 10: are doing an amazing job keeping us Pats fans and
- 1:44:55Speaker 10: formed with the good, the bad, and the ugly.
- 1:44:58Speaker 9: Thank you will, thank you, thank you you.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:45:01Speaker 20: I love it.
- 1:45:02Speaker 16: Hey, listen, I need I need your update from your optics,
- 1:45:07Speaker 16: not not not with just what the reporters are saying
- 1:45:12Speaker 16: the other people who.
- 1:45:14Speaker 11: Are covering the past.
- 1:45:14Speaker 16: What your optics as far as the linebackers and the dvs,
- 1:45:20Speaker 16: which include both the corners and safeties. Tell me what
- 1:45:24Speaker 16: you're seeing. I would greatly appreciate it.
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: Okay, e Marie.
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: You're looking for the optics of the back end of
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: the defense, the back eight or whatever you want to
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: call it.
- 1:45:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:45:33Speaker 8: Yeah, we've seen Splain and Christian Ellis paired together a
- 1:45:37Speaker 8: lot as sort of like the top inside linebacker duo,
- 1:45:40Speaker 8: and explaining is not surprising, but not to buy in
- 1:45:43Speaker 8: these practices. He's been out, so that might contribute a
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: little bit to Ellis being so involved.
- 1:45:48Speaker 7: But I feel like those two.
- 1:45:49Speaker 8: Guys have been pretty locked in there as the top
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: two inside linebackers, with maybe like a little bit of
- 1:45:56Speaker 8: Jack Gibbons every once in a while.
- 1:45:57Speaker 9: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: And then I mean on the safety, it's a lot
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: of Dugger and Peppers, but a lot of rotation going
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: on back there, giving guys like Jalen Hawkins a chance.
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: Marcus Epps mass made a nice play today coverage on I'd.
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: Say, you know, Craig Woodson hasn't really entered that conversation
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: yet which something to watch and as he's entered the chat,
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: it hasn't entered the chat yet that with the Young
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: Top unit. But like I said, I think last show
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: a lot of rotation going on in the back. Seems
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: like they're looking for what how the best three fit?
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: But they clearly seem to understand that Peppers and Dugger
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: play well when they're close to the line.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: You know, I.
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: Mentioned that, you know, show me what goes on in
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: the joint practice and I'll be able to come up
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: with a little bit more informed opinions. But Friday nights
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: in stadium practice for Foxborough residents and season ticket members,
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: we're told will be more like a scrimmage, you know,
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: an actual scrimmage, or like, well, well that's the thing
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: we've been conditioned because Bill, I think, out of spite,
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: kind of made those in stadium practices glorified walkthroughs like
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: they'd be in uniform.
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: But it was no more than a walk through.
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: It's more about knowing.
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: What I've heard.
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: I heard that this might be more like a scrimmage.
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: I think Vere might have said something to somebody on
- 1:47:07Speaker 5: the radio. Maybe if I thought I saw that might
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: have been serious or something. Maybe it was to the
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: to the pat like a.
- 1:47:13Speaker 8: Lot of times these are like like you said, and
- 1:47:15Speaker 8: it's like, you know, we're laying things from the sideline
- 1:47:18Speaker 8: and substitution flatters and like making sure that game day operation.
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: Which is fine, you got to do that.
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: But do you think it'd be like any different than
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: say yesterday was maybe just not talking about exactly what
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: they do.
- 1:47:32Speaker 7: But I mean, oh, like, are we going to kick
- 1:47:34Speaker 7: it off and we're going to start like.
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: I don't think we're going to get anybody tackled, which
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: is kind of what they did though don't they usually
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: do that?
- 1:47:40Speaker 7: Like they do a kickoff and they I mean they
- 1:47:41Speaker 7: don't go full speed through it, but it.
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: Was they stop yea, like they don't return it.
- 1:47:46Speaker 7: That's probably the most difference is that it will be.
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: My guess is we're not going to get any tackling.
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: It's going to be.
- 1:47:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it's going to be just like practical.
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: I think it's which is good that to Fred's point,
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: it's a step up from what Bill you should do.
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: It's like they did last year.
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: I think that with Rabel though so that there could
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: be a competitive element to it. And I'm not saying
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: that means tackling, but maybe just a little bit more
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: make it again, let's make it a little bit of
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: a game. But I think that the pace will be
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: the same, but it will be more controlled of you know,
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: kickoffs and you know the stuff we always thought was
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: like and this is where you stand for the national anthem,
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: and then you go over here, and then at halftime
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: we go out this door.
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: You know, it's one of those things, Freddy like, we've
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: seen a million of these. You know when you see it, Oh,
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: that's a little different than that they normally do.
- 1:48:28Speaker 8: Yeah, you'll be able to tell you you would like
- 1:48:30Speaker 8: because we haven't really gotten to Like it's first and
- 1:48:33Speaker 8: ten from the twenty five. We're gonna put the ball down.
- 1:48:35Speaker 8: We're going to put everybody to the side. The coaches
- 1:48:38Speaker 8: aren't going to coach. We're just gonna let it run.
- 1:48:39Speaker 8: We're gonna blair the music. Like if that happens on
- 1:48:42Speaker 8: Friday night, that would be different.
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: And if it's incomplete, does it go second and ten
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: or do they move it where it was supposed to
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: move right right?
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: You know, that's the kind of stuff.
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: Yeap Williams and Philam. What's up? Willem?
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: Hey, hey Bred?
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: How you doing all right?
- 1:48:58Speaker 15: Okay, congratulations Evan, thank you, thank you.
- 1:49:03Speaker 14: Uh, just keep the life happy, right.
- 1:49:05Speaker 7: I'll try, Oh he is, it's hard this time of year.
- 1:49:08Speaker 20: Try right, here's just a question.
- 1:49:14Speaker 27: And I talked to Evan about this before, so I'll say,
- 1:49:18Speaker 27: you got the quarterback, God women, you got to tackle
- 1:49:23Speaker 27: God women.
- 1:49:25Speaker 9: But you know we're missing.
- 1:49:27Speaker 27: And I talked to you about a certain receiver and
- 1:49:30Speaker 27: I'm on this train until that meantime.
- 1:49:32Speaker 15: I know he is when we are about two years
- 1:49:34Speaker 15: when he come out. But Evan know what I'm talking.
- 1:49:36Speaker 8: About talking about Jeremiah Smith.
- 1:49:39Speaker 9: Oh jeez, yes, sir dude.
- 1:49:40Speaker 7: If the Patriots are drafting high enough to draft.
- 1:49:43Speaker 8: Jeremiah Smith in two years though, it's got a little while.
- 1:49:48Speaker 16: Draft and watch, I know we're only got in twenty
- 1:49:51Speaker 16: twenty five.
- 1:49:52Speaker 15: I get it.
- 1:49:53Speaker 14: It's just makes sense though, because.
- 1:49:54Speaker 27: Of how we're trying to get number one and it's
- 1:49:56Speaker 27: been so long since we have one.
- 1:49:58Speaker 15: Yeah, and it just it just makes sense to me.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: I don't know it makes sense, but I hope we're
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: not in a position to get believe it or not.
- 1:50:04Speaker 8: If we are we're picking number one overall, if we're
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: drafting Jeremiah Smith.
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: Right at least right now.
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so like yeah, I don't want to be that
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: bad where he's.
- 1:50:16Speaker 27: Not that but like us trading up to get him done,
- 1:50:19Speaker 27: you know what I mean, Like Shay, we got all
- 1:50:21Speaker 27: the pieces and everything hopefully and we go ahead and
- 1:50:25Speaker 27: make that big deal.
- 1:50:26Speaker 16: You know, we always trade back, but we never trade up.
- 1:50:29Speaker 15: It's been a.
- 1:50:30Speaker 9: While, you know.
- 1:50:30Speaker 8: I mean we're talking about a for a non quarterback,
- 1:50:35Speaker 8: like an all time package to get it Jeremiah Smith.
- 1:50:39Speaker 8: Like he's it's not just the season that he had
- 1:50:43Speaker 8: last year at Ohio State. Like he's been on the
- 1:50:45Speaker 8: radar since he was like sixteen, Like you know, like
- 1:50:48Speaker 8: he's been ready for the NFL for like three years.
- 1:50:51Speaker 8: So it's not just that he had the great year
- 1:50:53Speaker 8: last year at Ohio State. You know, he's a generational talent.
- 1:50:56Speaker 7: You might need the Burro Chas thing to happen.
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: That's where my my my concept, thanks William, That's where
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: my concept of future picks being able to future pick
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: a guy and giving up your first round pick no
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: matter what happens, you've lost it to be able to
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: say two years from now we've drafted.
- 1:51:12Speaker 8: They could have drafted him instead of Will Campbell this
- 1:51:14Speaker 8: year and stashed him.
- 1:51:15Speaker 7: For They could have taken baby Gronk in the third round.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Yeah, just wait, David Maine says, have you guys seen
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: any reps with Strange at center and Wilson at guard?
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: Strange did okay at center last year? Could you see
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: that being the best five?
- 1:51:28Speaker 7: No?
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: I think that experiment's over. But but Wilson, Yes, Wilson
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: at left guard in center.
- 1:51:34Speaker 23: Yep.
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: So we haven't seen Strange at center at all? No,
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: not one snap.
- 1:51:40Speaker 8: Interesting they've had Bradbury, Ben Brown, Jared Wilson.
- 1:51:46Speaker 7: I said to Evan too, like. I just I like
- 1:51:47Speaker 7: Ben Brown size.
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: I don't know if he's really even in the mix
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: of the conversation for that spot, but I just think
- 1:51:53Speaker 5: i'd like. I like the idea having a big center
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: with so many tough, big interior guys, and our recent
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: history of guys on skates getting pushed back into the pocket.
- 1:52:02Speaker 7: There is a there's a chance.
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: Are you talking about a certain retired.
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: No, No, nobody retired.
- 1:52:09Speaker 8: Okay, there's a there's a sliver of a chance that
- 1:52:16Speaker 8: it's Jared Wilson and Ben Brown as the backup center.
- 1:52:19Speaker 8: I'm not saying that it's we're there yet.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: But do you think they might release Bradbury?
- 1:52:23Speaker 7: There's a slipper.
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: I do not think that that is much of a possibility.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Destiny from Maryland writes in have you guys heard how
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: Taekwon is lighting it up at Chiefs training camp? Apparently
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: he's been running with the first team offense and the
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: Chiefs fans are gushing. I love to see the downfall
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: of other fans. Okay, let's let's but I do wish
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: he pans out.
- 1:52:47Speaker 8: We have to teach you a lesson about Taekwon Thornton.
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: This is what he does.
- 1:52:50Speaker 8: This is what he shines. This is when he shines.
- 1:52:52Speaker 8: It's non padded practices and stuff. It's nobody gets hands
- 1:52:56Speaker 8: on him. Nobody's gonna actually like press him or be
- 1:53:00Speaker 8: physical with him. This time of year and the fourth
- 1:53:02Speaker 8: two comes out and he just is like last year
- 1:53:05Speaker 8: he was. He was Moss and Christian Gonzales last year.
- 1:53:08Speaker 8: In these early practices, this is the Taekwon experience.
- 1:53:12Speaker 7: I've been duped.
- 1:53:13Speaker 8: Don't don't get duped, can't don't get duped.
- 1:53:16Speaker 4: Well, maybe you know what the fourth year is?
- 1:53:19Speaker 8: This his fourth year in the league, fourth year jump?
- 1:53:22Speaker 9: Maybe?
- 1:53:22Speaker 8: Wow, very common fourth year jo.
- 1:53:24Speaker 7: Life comes at you.
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: Fast, new environment, your setting, fresh start. Who knows, maybe
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: you put some pounds on in the right place.
- 1:53:33Speaker 8: I've never heard that before about Taekwan. Oh, he gained
- 1:53:36Speaker 8: fifteen pounds of muscle in the off season. Different guy.
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: Fred's rooting for him. Sure, Melbourne, he's on another team.
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: Jake and Melbourne.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: Apologies if it's always already been mentioned, But what has
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: the backup five on the O line?
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: Ben?
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: Or has it been too mixed up?
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: I can tell you what it was today. Yeah, it
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: was Marcus Bryant, Kayden Wallace, Jared Wilson, City Sow and
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: Trey Jacobs left to right.
- 1:54:01Speaker 6: That was your second group today.
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: By the way, City so had some good one on one.
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: Yeah, he had had the best one on one I
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: saw yesterday.
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: Yeah, he absolutely destroyed Farmer. Yeah, just Joshua Farmer.
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: Donald still doesn't seem like he's getting a sniff at
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: at left guard yet.
- 1:54:17Speaker 8: It's weird like him and Laden Robinson are both wrapping
- 1:54:20Speaker 8: at right guard and it's like, I get you need
- 1:54:22Speaker 8: to have a backup. But like if they're not gonna
- 1:54:25Speaker 8: if they're not gonna swing, if you're not gonna have
- 1:54:27Speaker 8: if you're not gonna be able.
- 1:54:27Speaker 7: To multiple, you can't.
- 1:54:30Speaker 8: You can't be a one position backup on the especially.
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: Exactly what Wilson said yesterday, one in the days this week.
- 1:54:37Speaker 8: Especially on the interior. So like at some point they're
- 1:54:40Speaker 8: gonna have to throw them in. They if they have
- 1:54:42Speaker 8: real like hopes of them making the team, then they're
- 1:54:45Speaker 8: gonna have to throw them in at left guard and
- 1:54:47Speaker 8: see if can they hold up on both sides so
- 1:54:49Speaker 8: that they can be a backup on game day. Otherwise
- 1:54:51Speaker 8: you're one position backup.
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: You don't want to be.
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: All right, We're gonna end it a little early today.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: I've got some things I've got to do. Busy, but
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: appreciate everyone watching listening.

- 1:55:11Speaker 6: Nomorris Wednesday showed them tomorrow two to four.
- 1:55:15Speaker 8: I believe that's correct, two to four, a little bit
- 1:55:17Speaker 8: after two because Bart's busy, so you know, a little.
- 1:55:20Speaker 7: Laughter maybe like all the punting spars world.
- 1:55:24Speaker 6: We're all just living.
- 1:55:25Speaker 8: He's got to talk to Zoe about practice.
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: We'll let everyone know.
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: Okay, So catch twenty two tomorrow and then we'll be
