- 0:01Speaker 1: Well, that was a fun weekend. That was a really
- 0:04Speaker 1: fun first weekend of games. There was a little boost
- 0:07Speaker 1: which we're going to get into. I'm not going to
- 0:10Speaker 1: do much exactly. Kratz do it again for us.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Boom boom boom.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Yeah, your old buddy Salvey did that a few times
- 0:16Speaker 1: and had some success with it. We have so much
- 0:20Speaker 1: to cover with the ABS Challenge System, so I'm not
- 0:23Speaker 1: going to waste much time because we're going to talk
- 0:25Speaker 1: to Mason Miller in about fifteen minutes. I want to
- 0:27Speaker 1: make sure we have a good, chunky, twelve minute segment
- 0:31Speaker 1: to go over all of the ABS Challenge System virality.
- 0:36Speaker 3: From the weekend it took over.
- 0:37Speaker 1: People were like, Oh my gosh, I can't believe how
- 0:39Speaker 1: good this is. We were like, yeah, we've been talking
- 0:42Speaker 1: about this for a long time.
- 0:44Speaker 2: So here we go.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Snee right, Well, ce B Buckner has to lead off
- 0:54Speaker 1: the UMP show. I think that was the true viviality
- 0:57Speaker 1: from the weekend. People were like, the ABS Challenge System
- 1:00Speaker 1: is what is going to bring world peace. Everybody loves
- 1:03Speaker 1: it except for CB. Everybody else loves it. So take
- 1:07Speaker 1: me through that game and your experience with CB and
- 1:10Speaker 1: the year that he's going to have and he's not
- 1:12Speaker 1: the only one. But eight challenges on Saturday, six of
- 1:17Speaker 1: them were overturned Red Sox reds, including Gino Suarez consecutive
- 1:23Speaker 1: strike three calls that were.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Not No, that we're not And like before we go
- 1:27Speaker 4: on to Ceb, like this is going to exploit some
- 1:30Speaker 4: umpires and you know, hopefully for the good, but there's
- 1:34Speaker 4: going to be a lot And again, balls are missing
- 1:36Speaker 4: by that much. Well, I've always talked about it. Forget
- 1:39Speaker 4: about the buffer zone. Listen, A ball is a ball,
- 1:42Speaker 4: ste B Buckner been doing it for a long time now.
- 1:45Speaker 4: This guy right here has missed some calls over the years,
- 1:48Speaker 4: and we've talked about it. Everybody has cratzy. You know
- 1:51Speaker 4: he misses a call. Hey, Ceb, I got that off
- 1:54Speaker 4: straight face. Okay, I'm like, okay, that's not Yeah. He
- 2:00Speaker 4: would be real quick with it, and he wouldn't. He
- 2:03Speaker 4: never his face was subtle. Cratzy. Tell me if I'm wrong.
- 2:06Speaker 4: The guy never had a peep and then he would
- 2:08Speaker 4: all of a sudden. He would explode every once in
- 2:10Speaker 4: a while. But now you can't get bitter at this.
- 2:13Speaker 4: These are the new rules. You missed a call me
- 2:17Speaker 4: and Jene got it right. Don't get better, get better
- 2:20Speaker 4: and that would be my my my thing to him.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I wouldn't even say straight face. He
- 2:25Speaker 5: just gives you one.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Of these yes.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Yeah, And that's more irritating than anything else it is.
- 2:32Speaker 5: It's more irritating how you react to mistakes or how
- 2:36Speaker 5: you react to like people questioning you. That's how the
- 2:40Speaker 5: that's how the whole like relationship is built. The best umpire,
- 2:44Speaker 5: the umpires that you really enjoy are the ones that
- 2:47Speaker 5: you know you can have a conversation with. And the
- 2:49Speaker 5: first one here I felt like with with with Gino,
- 2:53Speaker 5: I felt like, you know that one he reacted fine,
- 2:56Speaker 5: his reaction right here, when he calls it, he gives them,
- 2:59Speaker 5: he gives them like the hands down, like, oh, you're
- 3:01Speaker 5: gonna challenge me? Oh, like, oh okay, I'll go and
- 3:06Speaker 5: check it again, like to me, if there's any other reaction,
- 3:10Speaker 5: then okay, yeah, I'll challenge it. Then it tells me
- 3:12Speaker 5: that it's like you're getting a little too personal with it,
- 3:15Speaker 5: like it's either right or wrong, that's it, whether it's
- 3:18Speaker 5: by a tenth of an inch or whether it's by
- 3:20Speaker 5: two inches.
- 3:22Speaker 1: The Red Sox ran out of challenges. Otherwise they could
- 3:24Speaker 1: have had more fun with this. And then do you
- 3:26Speaker 1: feel like CB was taking a shot back at them
- 3:29Speaker 1: by not checking on the Trevor story check swing?
- 3:33Speaker 5: Yeah, well that would be my That would be my
- 3:35Speaker 5: other gripe with Cbe and Angel Hernandez, they both on
- 3:39Speaker 5: separate occasions told me you can tell if a guy
- 3:42Speaker 5: check swung or not by looking at his face. Now,
- 3:46Speaker 5: I don't think he was taking a shot. I don't
- 3:48Speaker 5: think he was taking a shot. I don't think he
- 3:49Speaker 5: was like, Oh, you guys showed me up by challenging
- 3:51Speaker 5: so many. I hope that's not the case. That's that's
- 3:54Speaker 5: vindictive and that's not helpful. They both said, at separate times,
- 4:00Speaker 5: look at their eyes, so they'll like, they'll like, tilt
- 4:02Speaker 5: and look at their eyes. If you watch the replay,
- 4:04Speaker 5: he looks, he looks right at him. He looks right
- 4:06Speaker 5: at his face. I was like, so what are you
- 4:08Speaker 5: looking for? He goes, you'll know, like what.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Did he bring a polygraph out too? For each of
- 4:18Speaker 3: them to make sure that they actually believe what they're saying,
- 4:23Speaker 3: it's ridiculous, agreed.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And now called him out postgame. So for me, the
- 4:30Speaker 1: difference isn't just your percentage, it's where your misses are.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So there's abs challenges the C. B. Buckner effect. We're
- 4:37Speaker 1: showing the Reds just bringing it in that game. But
- 4:41Speaker 1: I also want to show the actual pitch graph of
- 4:44Speaker 1: the ones that he did miss Could we take that
- 4:47Speaker 1: pull screen too, so we can show you know, krats
- 4:50Speaker 1: breaking down some of the pitches that were outside of
- 4:53Speaker 1: the zone and by how much outside the zone. Some
- 4:55Speaker 1: of these are pretty egregious.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Number four is agreed. Just number six and number eight
- 5:02Speaker 5: aregreed just too because they're not as far, but they're
- 5:06Speaker 5: on his strong side. They're on the side that he's on, Like,
- 5:10Speaker 5: you can't miss the balls. You can't miss the balls
- 5:12Speaker 5: that you're when you're set up in and those two,
- 5:16Speaker 5: I think seven and one are are kind of stacked
- 5:20Speaker 5: on top of each other. They weren't. They weren't against uh, righty,
- 5:23Speaker 5: so he wasn't inside on those pitches. But I'm sorry,
- 5:27Speaker 5: they weren't against lefties, so he wasn't inside. But if
- 5:28Speaker 5: you're you just you just gotta like number three, so
- 5:33Speaker 5: what like that one's that one touched his own? That
- 5:36Speaker 5: one we're gonna we're gonna figure that out, I hope.
- 5:40Speaker 5: But the biggest thing is if umpires want to make
- 5:44Speaker 5: the change, if they want to, or if they're gonna
- 5:46Speaker 5: be like whatever, you don't have a this This is
- 5:50Speaker 5: where I think a huge value might be. They're not
- 5:52Speaker 5: gonna have any more challenges now. It just might turn
- 5:56Speaker 5: into like an old school game, like a Eric greg game,
- 5:59Speaker 5: where it's just like hat hat hat, and you're like,
- 6:03Speaker 5: oh boy, what do we do now.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Yesterday and watching the game with my son and he's
- 6:09Speaker 4: a Mets fan. As you guys know, I probably talk
- 6:12Speaker 4: about a one hundred times. So I'm sitting there watching
- 6:14Speaker 4: the game for a little bit before I do something else.
- 6:17Speaker 4: And there was a pitch that was up he called
- 6:19Speaker 4: a strike and it was a ball. And this is
- 6:21Speaker 4: the best part of myself, like challenge, challenge, Like you
- 6:24Speaker 4: got young kids that are screaming at the TV screen
- 6:27Speaker 4: and then you see the guy they're like.
- 6:29Speaker 2: M like they want to, but they don't.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Like I wonder after each game how many calls they
- 6:37Speaker 4: miss and how many calls like a player misses. They
- 6:40Speaker 4: should challenge and player misses. That's what I was trying
- 6:43Speaker 4: to Yeah, and like listen, cebe Buckner. He called strike
- 6:47Speaker 4: that it was going to be strike three no matter what.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Let's just be honest with you, unless it was a
- 6:52Speaker 4: ball that went over his head or in the dirt.
- 6:55Speaker 4: He was mad that he challenged a call and he lost.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Next pitch was as far off, know what bang them? Anyway,
- 7:01Speaker 4: hopefully it doesn't challenge challenge it again. Looked up at him.
- 7:04Speaker 4: He's like, really, you're gonna challenge Yeah, it's it's gonna
- 7:08Speaker 4: be it's gonna be fun, it's gonna be interesting as
- 7:12Speaker 4: we move forward here. Because some pumpires don't want this crap.
- 7:17Speaker 3: It doesn't matter and I don't think.
- 7:18Speaker 2: But that's how they're saying.
- 7:20Speaker 4: And a lot of umpires are like, okay, want to
- 7:22Speaker 4: challenge me a hundred times, and if they get it right,
- 7:24Speaker 4: they're like, inside they got a little pride, you know
- 7:26Speaker 4: what I mean. So you saw in Cincinnati how excited
- 7:30Speaker 4: the crowd got.
- 7:30Speaker 2: That was. That was that was fun to watch the
- 7:33Speaker 2: game exactly.
- 7:34Speaker 1: But it's the game inside the game too, crowd is
- 7:36Speaker 1: because it is bringing more fan engagement.
- 7:38Speaker 3: We knew this was going to happen. Some people are surprised.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I'm like, no, no, no, this is the change that takes
- 7:44Speaker 1: the sport to another entertainment level.
- 7:45Speaker 5: It is definitely because we're getting it right. We're getting
- 7:49Speaker 5: it right and there's intrigued to it. That's like a
- 7:52Speaker 5: pause in the game, which we're trying to eliminate, but
- 7:54Speaker 5: that pause in the game is exciting. Like people aren't
- 7:57Speaker 5: going another challenge on my phone. No, it's like a challenge. Oh,
- 8:02Speaker 5: I want to see what happens? Yeah? Or no, why'd
- 8:06Speaker 5: you challenge?
- 8:07Speaker 6: There?
- 8:07Speaker 5: You shop, You're not one of our better players. Like
- 8:10Speaker 5: I want to see what I want to see at
- 8:11Speaker 5: the end of the season, and we can't wait. Maybe
- 8:13Speaker 5: we could see it by the All Star break halfway
- 8:16Speaker 5: through the season. Is we have the umpire scorecards from
- 8:21Speaker 5: every year from last year to this year. I want
- 8:23Speaker 5: to see who improves and to me, it'll be directly
- 8:27Speaker 5: correlated to the ABS challenge system.
- 8:31Speaker 6: This one's for the dudes looking for that peak bedroom performance.

- 9:23Speaker 1: blood flow with apomorphine and oxytocin to turn up the
- 9:27Speaker 1: arousal and connection in your brain and body.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It's blue Choo.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Well.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I found one instance.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So the other day when the Cubs lost, or were
- 9:38Speaker 1: losing at the time, and they lost to the Nationals.
- 9:39Speaker 1: It was eight four two runners on one out Nico
- 9:43Speaker 1: Horner at the plate bottom of the seventh three to
- 9:45Speaker 1: one pitch.
- 9:46Speaker 3: It was inside. It was called a strike. He would
- 9:50Speaker 3: have walked to load up the.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Bases and then that would have put up Carson Kelly
- 9:55Speaker 1: representing the tying run. Instead, next pitch grounded into a
- 9:57Speaker 1: double play ended it. So it's those types of late
- 10:01Speaker 1: situations where one inning can change it all, right, one
- 10:05Speaker 1: pitch in that inning can change it all that players
- 10:07Speaker 1: will get smarter with and say, hey, this is the time.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I can't be gun shy on a time like this
- 10:14Speaker 1: because this could decide the game.
- 10:15Speaker 3: So that part's important.
- 10:17Speaker 1: We had a bunch of stats from over the weekend,
- 10:19Speaker 1: so I think Salvador presment viral forgetting three for three,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but he wasn't the only one, and also over since
- 10:25Speaker 1: now then four for four total. He was three for
- 10:27Speaker 1: three in one game. Real Muto was perfect three for
- 10:30Speaker 1: three in these first several games. Same with Austin Wells
- 10:33Speaker 1: on the umpire side Pad Witson in the Giants Yanks
- 10:37Speaker 1: game the other day actually had seven challenges, all of
- 10:40Speaker 1: them overturned.
- 10:40Speaker 3: He was worse than Buckner by numbers. Now, some pitches
- 10:43Speaker 3: are closer.
- 10:44Speaker 1: That's why I want everyone to see the Buckner chart
- 10:46Speaker 1: and how some of those misses were. But Buckner was
- 10:48Speaker 1: at seventy five percent. Chris Siegel in the Orioles Twins
- 10:52Speaker 1: game had ten challenges, seven of them overturned. And let's
- 10:57Speaker 1: go to that game for a moment, because we actually
- 10:59Speaker 1: saw our first ejection as a result of the ABS
- 11:01Speaker 1: Challenge system. Some were worried, including some on this show,
- 11:05Speaker 1: that we would not have any animosity between coaches, players
- 11:10Speaker 1: and umpires. I think we've seen plenty already. We'll run
- 11:12Speaker 1: through a few examples, but let's start with Derek Shelton,
- 11:15Speaker 1: who was ejected from Sunday's game.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Was it Sunday or Saturday? I think it was Saturday.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Saturday, Yeah, yeah, because Helsley was on the mound.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, Hellsley. Well, I think he closed out both.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But Helsley tapped in the Shelton said he tapped too
- 11:34Speaker 1: quick or not too quick, too slightly.
- 11:36Speaker 4: I saw the replay on that he went, he went one.
- 11:40Speaker 4: He didn't he didn't exaggerate it. It looked like right,
- 11:42Speaker 4: and then he went back and did it.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:46Speaker 4: They might have to do something about that and what
- 11:49Speaker 4: I don't know. That's what I'm saying, like you got
- 11:51Speaker 4: to be really egregious with the tapping or because he
- 11:54Speaker 4: kind of went like that, like boom like that, I
- 11:57Speaker 4: don't know what the ruling is.
- 11:59Speaker 2: And then he went.
- 12:00Speaker 4: He won a couple more times, so I don't know
- 12:03Speaker 4: that one there. I was in between on but it
- 12:06Speaker 4: deals with last ds, so there's always a controversy there exactly.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Well, you're still gonna have plenty of fun, yeah, and Kratz.
- 12:12Speaker 1: There was also Doug Eddings who said that Matt Olsen
- 12:15Speaker 1: took too long to challenge a strike call and you
- 12:19Speaker 1: didn't give it to him. We saw that happen a
- 12:21Speaker 1: few times in spring training, and I was like, oh,
- 12:23Speaker 1: that's only happening a few times in spring training. That's
- 12:26Speaker 1: going to happen a lot in the regular season, at
- 12:28Speaker 1: least at the start of the season. That's kind of
- 12:30Speaker 1: a way for an umpire to be like, hey, you
- 12:32Speaker 1: better be super definitive right away. And also it's going
- 12:35Speaker 1: to affect some ups that are a little bit delayed
- 12:37Speaker 1: with their calls, because then you know how a player
- 12:39Speaker 1: kind of thinks he's going one way if he's got
- 12:41Speaker 1: a walk, but then the strike's called. But then if
- 12:43Speaker 1: you make a motion, then did you make a motion
- 12:47Speaker 1: and then try to tap your head and you can't
- 12:48Speaker 1: do that. The nuances might actually change the way that
- 12:52Speaker 1: somebody does something like they might actually wait at the
- 12:54Speaker 1: plate regardless, make sure the call is made, and then
- 12:57Speaker 1: if they don't agree with the call, do the tap
- 13:00Speaker 1: before they move over to first.
- 13:02Speaker 5: It changes, It changes your timing. We talked. I talk
- 13:04Speaker 5: about all the time with the high school kids, like
- 13:06Speaker 5: there's timing in baseball, like if you're if you're not
- 13:10Speaker 5: onto the next thing when this happens, like you're too late,
- 13:13Speaker 5: And so I think, like, uh, I think it was
- 13:15Speaker 5: four test. Nick fourtest caught one. It was a slider
- 13:19Speaker 5: from a lefty I forget, and he caught it and
- 13:23Speaker 5: it was it looked like a very definitive strike and
- 13:26Speaker 5: he caught it and he brought it up to throw
- 13:28Speaker 5: it back and the umpire and umpire balled it. He
- 13:33Speaker 5: put the ball in his glove and then he was
- 13:34Speaker 5: like he went like this. The umpire said, no, no, no, no,
- 13:37Speaker 5: that took too long. It was not I need to
- 13:40Speaker 5: know what that time span is. I need to know
- 13:42Speaker 5: what is Is it three seconds? Like that's the number
- 13:45Speaker 5: I keep hearing, but what are we Three seconds is
- 13:48Speaker 5: a long time? Like to me, I don't think Hellsley's
- 13:51Speaker 5: challenge was too late. I didn't think Olsen's challenge was
- 13:54Speaker 5: too late or Nick Fortes's challenge. But Nick Fortes just
- 13:58Speaker 5: does what he does. Catches. Oh yeah, definitely a strike.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Catch it go to throw back? Well, I mean he's
- 14:04Speaker 5: got to go with the ball in his hand. So
- 14:07Speaker 5: he put the ball in his glove, put the ball
- 14:10Speaker 5: right in the mitt and went right to the tap
- 14:11Speaker 5: and the umpire leaned over. He's like, nope, nope, not
- 14:14Speaker 5: gonna happen.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Crazy, Yeah, it's crazy. It's crazy fun. You listen, crazy fun.
- 14:23Speaker 4: It's gonna exploit some people.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Some people are gonna be okay. Yeah, man, I got
- 14:28Speaker 4: I got some work to do. Some people were like,
- 14:30Speaker 4: these sons are guns. You know, that's life. That's any
- 14:33Speaker 4: job you go to, that's part of it. You're gonna
- 14:35Speaker 4: have some people who are better, but most people want
- 14:38Speaker 4: to get better.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Some players are gonna get pissed at each other too.
- 14:40Speaker 1: So Matt Walner had what was it a full count
- 14:43Speaker 1: pitch that was basically down the middle, and people called
- 14:45Speaker 1: it a rage challenge because he didn't swing. But they
- 14:50Speaker 1: were like, dude, that's a strike. Oh what are you
- 14:51Speaker 1: doing in the middle quadrant a little bit, you know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: took more towards the knees, but middle lower quadrit good there,
- 14:57Speaker 1: Monsey fifteen in our chat, not Max Amuncie fan I
- 15:01Speaker 1: Guess said of Kuna challenging bottom of the first, right
- 15:04Speaker 1: after Baldwin lost a challenge in the top of the
- 15:06Speaker 1: first for the braves, can't happen. Got to be used
- 15:08Speaker 1: in better situations. Completely agree. You cannot lose your challenges
- 15:13Speaker 1: in the first inning. You can't lose your challenges in
- 15:15Speaker 1: the fourth inning.
- 15:16Speaker 4: That's why you save them until the seventh, eighth, and ninth.
- 15:19Speaker 2: In my opinion, when it gets.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I think after the one burned, it's got to be
- 15:25Speaker 3: agreed just to start right or on a huge moment,
- 15:28Speaker 3: bases loaded, third inning, someone's up, this is your chance
- 15:32Speaker 3: to blow up in the game. Bad call, you feel
- 15:34Speaker 3: like you've got it okay.
- 15:36Speaker 4: But I and I also think it's gonna hurt some
- 15:38Speaker 4: players hitting because they're like like I saw, like Sodo,
- 15:41Speaker 4: He's like a kind of picks you out of your
- 15:43Speaker 4: rhythm a little bit too. If I'm looking at the
- 15:45Speaker 4: other side of it, like they're professional hitters. Don't get
- 15:48Speaker 4: me wrong, but if you're thinking about maybe I should
- 15:50Speaker 4: have challenged, maybe not, And now it's like ringing in
- 15:52Speaker 4: your head now pictures like ah gotch you bud, let's go,
- 15:56Speaker 4: you know. So that's where on the flip side, it's
- 15:59Speaker 4: a little different, like, all right, you didn't challenge it,
- 16:01Speaker 4: let go and move on.
- 16:03Speaker 2: If it's borderline, if you gotta think.
- 16:05Speaker 4: If I'm a manager and I tell my guys, if
- 16:07Speaker 4: you got a second, guess yourself and you're in between,
- 16:09Speaker 4: you better not challenge.
- 16:11Speaker 2: That would be my answer to all that.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and then to finish here, there's some swagginess where
- 16:16Speaker 1: Randy Roseeran it was so confident that it was going
- 16:20Speaker 1: to be overturned that he just starts taking off his
- 16:21Speaker 1: equipment and walking to first base before the.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Ruling came in. He's just like, boom boom, challenge.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And also you can see some guys are making eye contacts,
- 16:29Speaker 1: some guys are not right, some guys are just doing this,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and some guys are looking back like you are wrong.
- 16:33Speaker 1: So there will be plenty of animosity.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Do not worry. The game will still have tons of
- 16:38Speaker 3: human element to it.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Hey, we're back.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Let's show you this little nugget from the weekend. We'll
- 16:45Speaker 1: talk later about the Giants getting swept by the Yankees.
- 16:48Speaker 1: But did you see where third base coach Luis Rojas
- 16:51Speaker 1: stood so he didn't get smoked under these new rules?
- 16:54Speaker 1: When Jim Carlo stand was at the plate, would.
- 16:56Speaker 4: You say, it's amazing, that's only you're only allowed to
- 16:59Speaker 4: stand there.
- 17:00Speaker 2: That's unbelievable.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Well, you gotta be in the box or back up.
- 17:04Speaker 2: It's ridiculous. I guess it's a safety hazard.
- 17:07Speaker 1: But well that's why they complained, but nobody's done anything
- 17:10Speaker 1: about it as well.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Put him in the dark out, you're in the seats.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Maybe see I'm in the dog out.
- 17:17Speaker 4: But you know, like but yes, whatever, Hey, if that's
- 17:20Speaker 4: that's a simple rule that has to be fixed, so
- 17:23Speaker 4: be it.
- 17:23Speaker 2: There's other rules where you like your mind bothering, but
- 17:26Speaker 2: safety for sure.
- 17:28Speaker 1: What about a prison cell, like a square prison cell
- 17:30Speaker 1: like solitary confinement that has class or that you.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Got candy in there too, Yeah you can have yep.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And it's just you have to be right there, and
- 17:39Speaker 1: that's foul ground. I mean, crats, you could be warm crats.
- 17:45Speaker 1: He was way back. I mean he's basically against the
- 17:49Speaker 1: the wall.
- 17:50Speaker 5: I've seen guys. I've seen guys far back with extreme
- 17:53Speaker 5: pool hitters. I've seen him like that. But I think
- 17:56Speaker 5: he's trying to make a trying to make an example too,
- 18:00Speaker 5: Like it's it's ridiculous. Let them go farther down the line.
- 18:04Speaker 5: I get it. Even in this case, there's no there's
- 18:06Speaker 5: no runners on the pictures. The pictures come and set,
- 18:10Speaker 5: not even coming set. He's just standing on the mound
- 18:12Speaker 5: and his and his hands in his glove like this.
- 18:15Speaker 5: If you look at the picture, you know, was he
- 18:17Speaker 5: picking it up because he's directly across but just farther
- 18:22Speaker 5: down the line. Well, he's also in a safer area.
- 18:24Speaker 5: I mean, John Carlos Stanton hits the ball one hundred
- 18:27Speaker 5: and twenty miles an hour, like you just you just
- 18:29Speaker 5: don't have enough time from where the boxes are to
- 18:32Speaker 5: be safe. So you got to be out there.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Safety. Safety, that's all.
- 18:39Speaker 5: What they don't care. They don't care.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Well, the lead's just gonna say that's fine, didn't stand
- 18:45Speaker 3: back there.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, maybe I don't know.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yeah, Well there's there's more paranoia on the pitch tipping
- 18:56Speaker 1: part and that they can't make everyone happy.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I'm just laying it down. That's the message that has
- 19:02Speaker 3: been sent so far.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Hey, it might be time to have a heart to
- 19:07Speaker 1: heart with your phone and be like, I love you,
- 19:10Speaker 1: but you cost too much.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not paying this much anymore. That's it. I mean,
- 19:15Speaker 5: why would I go more than fifteen dollars a month.

- 20:03Speaker 1: mint mobile for details. Hey, what do you guys have
- 20:06Speaker 1: on Carlos' seves? If you look at the pitching chart here,
- 20:12Speaker 1: the blown save on Saturday led to a great moment,
- 20:14Speaker 1: which we'll get to later. For Tom Smith, the grand
- 20:16Speaker 1: Slam walk off, but six earned runs charged to his account.
- 20:19Speaker 1: The velocity was down and Kratz I heard Mac Qutrar,
- 20:22Speaker 1: the Royals manager, talking about it. He said his velo
- 20:25Speaker 1: was downspring training last year and then it pumped back up.
- 20:28Speaker 3: It just didn't happen this time.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You know, some guys kind of save it, and you
- 20:32Speaker 1: want some guys to do that, but in this case,
- 20:34Speaker 1: it wasn't in good shape. And then also it sounds
- 20:36Speaker 1: like he's got an ankle contusion. He was in a
- 20:39Speaker 1: boot yesterday morning, Sunday morning. So what do you do here?
- 20:44Speaker 5: I mean, you gotta keep running them out there, but
- 20:47Speaker 5: maybe with a little bit of a shorter leash. I mean,
- 20:49Speaker 5: the fact that he gave up six earned runs, that's tough,
- 20:53Speaker 5: great for Dom Smith, but the fact that they do
- 20:56Speaker 5: have Lucas Ersig that can come out of that bullpen.
- 21:00Speaker 5: I think he's legit in the eighth inning, so he
- 21:03Speaker 5: got to save yesterday. But I think it's something that
- 21:07Speaker 5: rarely would you have a season like carlos O Stevas
- 21:09Speaker 5: had last year and go, uh, you know what, we
- 21:12Speaker 5: need lower leverage situations. But when you have that drastic
- 21:16Speaker 5: of a velocity change, Okay, well we need to get
- 21:19Speaker 5: you going here. I get it, like spring training. It
- 21:22Speaker 5: was the same way, we need to get you going.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Where do you get him going at I don't know.
- 21:27Speaker 5: I mean that's between quatrro and estevas where it's like, no,
- 21:32Speaker 5: I need that adrenaline from the ninth inning, or hey,
- 21:35Speaker 5: be honest with me. Is something hanging are we feeling?
- 21:38Speaker 5: Are we feeling a little ill here?
- 21:41Speaker 3: You might say it's early. This might be one of
- 21:43Speaker 3: the better rookie classes that we have ever seen in
- 21:46Speaker 3: the game's history. We can't project every player's future.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And I'm talking about impact right now because you have
- 21:52Speaker 1: guys like Kevin McGonagall, JJ Weatherholt you're forgetting because he
- 21:57Speaker 1: made his debut last year. But Sal Stewart's still a rookie.
- 22:00Speaker 1: McLean will talk about of course as the season goes on.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Chase the Lotter put on a show, We'll talk about
- 22:04Speaker 1: him in a moment. The reason Crats why I think
- 22:06Speaker 1: it could be one of the better classes is that
- 22:08Speaker 1: you do have guys who are designated as rookies even
- 22:10Speaker 1: though they have prior pro seasons. And I know it
- 22:13Speaker 1: was a tough start for Tatsuyami, but Okamoto looks super legit,
- 22:18Speaker 1: especially with the bat for the Blue Jays and Murakami
- 22:20Speaker 1: hit three home runs already for.
- 22:22Speaker 3: The White Sox.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Did the White Sox actually make a move that nobody
- 22:25Speaker 1: else did and should have in terms of giving some
- 22:29Speaker 1: money to Murakami? I mean, I think most of the
- 22:31Speaker 1: league kind of kind of looked at him and yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 1: swiped him away.
- 22:36Speaker 2: They did.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I mean, he received so much less money than people anticipated.
- 22:40Speaker 1: And I know he ended up taking a shorter term deal,
- 22:42Speaker 1: but even if he took longer when it was going
- 22:44Speaker 1: to be nowhere close to what most people thought, he
- 22:46Speaker 1: was going to get.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Correct and the.
- 22:49Speaker 5: White Sox got it. But how many of those homers
- 22:53Speaker 5: were on what people said? He struggles with ninety five plus?
- 22:58Speaker 5: It's hard. It's hard to hit a home er in
- 23:00Speaker 5: the big leagues. And I think AJ and I both
- 23:02Speaker 5: talked about it. He could end up with thirty five plus.
- 23:06Speaker 5: But I don't know that the league necessarily missed on
- 23:10Speaker 5: this guy watching his swing, watching his swing path. He's
- 23:14Speaker 5: gonna have to figure out how to maybe cheat to
- 23:18Speaker 5: the heater a couple times, Todd, you know, anybody can
- 23:21Speaker 5: cheat to a heater, Like to me, if he's able
- 23:23Speaker 5: to get a couple, he's got to able to pump
- 23:26Speaker 5: a couple at ninety five plus. Now all of a sudden, Okay,
- 23:31Speaker 5: now you've got a guy who's able to just punish
- 23:34Speaker 5: mistake off speed pitches in the zone. Punish that that,
- 23:38Speaker 5: you know, that weak comeback sinker, that that stays middle.
- 23:41Speaker 5: So to me, yeah, I get it. People people looked
- 23:44Speaker 5: over him. But let's let's make sure. Let's make sure
- 23:47Speaker 5: he can do he can consistently hit. What a lot
- 23:52Speaker 5: of bullpens are thrown out there, A lot a lot
- 23:54Speaker 5: of starters are throwing out there. So but man, what
- 23:56Speaker 5: a freaking start. Three dangers in your first three games
- 23:59Speaker 5: that were.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:03Speaker 4: I mean, hater's gonna hate me.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:07Speaker 4: The guy's got three games in his book and this
- 24:09Speaker 4: guy ain't giving him credit right now.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Only three homers in those three games.
- 24:12Speaker 4: I mean, the dudes on pace for one sixty due
- 24:16Speaker 4: but cratzy, he talks all that, I want to see
- 24:19Speaker 4: this and that. But hey, congratulations on a great game.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Hey listen, it's fantastic. That's why we do a show. Though,
- 24:25Speaker 4: say it with your test. Sometimes you guys are right, yeah,
- 24:28Speaker 4: you guys.
- 24:28Speaker 1: You guys called out a couple guys that were new
- 24:32Speaker 1: on the scene and got a lot of flak for it. Right,
- 24:34Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember who they were. I think the
- 24:36Speaker 1: main one, but maybe Roki Sazaki. You guys were a
- 24:38Speaker 1: little shaky.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I was.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Yeah, he got beat up the first game, but now
- 24:43Speaker 4: he's he's figuring it out.
- 24:44Speaker 2: In my opinion, who the right handed picture now.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Rookie, are you talking about no Yamamoto is Yamamotos Dude,
- 24:53Speaker 3: I was wrong about Moto Yamamoto.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's what I was talking about.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Right, And while we're on all these you know, players
- 24:58Speaker 1: coming over from Japan, it is hard to project sometimes
- 25:01Speaker 1: it is very hard. When they hit, they really hit,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and they do and I think that both of them
- 25:06Speaker 1: are going to be good players in very different ways.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Okamotos might hit two eighty five, Murakami might hit two twenty.
- 25:13Speaker 2: But listen, what do you see. I see a ballplayer.
- 25:16Speaker 4: I see a guy that he's talking about thirty five
- 25:19Speaker 4: plus I'm saying forty. I think he has it in him. Cratzy,
- 25:24Speaker 4: I don't think you're wrong. It's just the way you
- 25:27Speaker 4: came out a little hoard. And I say hoard like
- 25:30Speaker 4: that horde, like, hey, give this man some credit. He
- 25:34Speaker 4: hit a Brewers club with three homers. I don't care
- 25:36Speaker 4: what they're throwing up there. He had three bing bangs. Okay,
- 25:40Speaker 4: let's see how consistent he is. Okay, deal, fine, shake
- 25:43Speaker 4: your hand, we'll move on. But give my man a
- 25:46Speaker 4: little slack here, doog. That's three homers in his first
- 25:49Speaker 4: time playing in USA. That's the USA, So give him
- 25:53Speaker 4: man some slack. Chicago, stand up for the guy. Let's go.
- 25:56Speaker 5: Yes, Chicago, you guys need to definitely stand up for
- 25:59Speaker 5: your guy. I completely apologize. That is so neat. He
- 26:04Speaker 5: hit three home runs. The question Todd was is he
- 26:08Speaker 5: going to be able to sustain it? And the question
- 26:11Speaker 5: has to be answered over a longer term. The fact
- 26:15Speaker 5: that the fact that he can, the fact that he
- 26:18Speaker 5: can hit the ball out of the ballpark with ease
- 26:21Speaker 5: you talk, I mean, everybody knew that eighty. I think
- 26:24Speaker 5: somebody put an eighty power grade on him, Like that's
- 26:27Speaker 5: legit power. You're talking about top ten power guys in
- 26:31Speaker 5: the league. If it's an eighty power and he showed
- 26:34Speaker 5: it like he showed it in Milwaukee. He showed it
- 26:37Speaker 5: in the situations that he hit it in. But when
- 26:39Speaker 5: you go to Oklamota over up in Toronto. To me,
- 26:44Speaker 5: what is a more valuable season if Kazuma hits twenty
- 26:49Speaker 5: five homers and hits to ninety or if Morikami hits
- 26:56Speaker 5: to ten and hits forty homers. To me, I I
- 27:00Speaker 5: take the forty homers because two for four what's the
- 27:02Speaker 5: score in my opinion? But I like that. It's one
- 27:06Speaker 5: of the It's one of those things that you know,
- 27:09Speaker 5: who do you look at when you watch a swing path,
- 27:11Speaker 5: when you watch the approach at the plate and you
- 27:13Speaker 5: get to see fifteen twenty at bats compared to one
- 27:17Speaker 5: hundred and fifty at bats, and who's going to come
- 27:19Speaker 5: out on top as the better hitter. That's what's exciting
- 27:23Speaker 5: about this first week. We can overreact like crazy.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, enough so I remember Markami, he signed
- 27:32Speaker 4: what a.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Two year deal?
- 27:33Speaker 4: Okay, so yeah, I'm taking Akamoto of course, because he's
- 27:38Speaker 4: gonna be on the winning ball club too.
- 27:40Speaker 2: This team's gonna make the playoff.
- 27:42Speaker 3: You're saying for a rookie of the Year.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Oh no, I'm just saying just overall, like, yeah, who
- 27:46Speaker 4: wouldn't want Mark Kami or Akamoto on the team? But
- 27:50Speaker 4: Mark Commy's playing for himself. Chicago's not going to make
- 27:54Speaker 4: the playoffs. He's basically playing for himself. So every homer
- 27:58Speaker 4: he hits, that's more money he's gonna make after the
- 28:00Speaker 4: next two years. So he needs to keep that rate
- 28:02Speaker 4: going and not worry about the wins and losses, which
- 28:05Speaker 4: is said to say, but you know, if we're going
- 28:08Speaker 4: individualized with both of these, yeah, I would want a
- 28:11Speaker 4: Kamoto because he's with a winning ball.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Club, four year, sixty mil, totally different player, totally different player,
- 28:17Speaker 1: right one's the first basement, one's playing third, get it
- 28:20Speaker 1: right now, so he has I want this though. This
- 28:24Speaker 1: is why we do this. I want you to call
- 28:25Speaker 1: stuff out. And if you're wrong, I mean, you're doing
- 28:27Speaker 1: a show every day, then let him hit forty homers
- 28:29Speaker 1: and be in a five win player or whatever he is,
- 28:32Speaker 1: then awesome, that's great, okay, But if Krat says everybody's
- 28:35Speaker 1: going to be amazing, then this is not the right
- 28:37Speaker 1: network for you.
- 28:38Speaker 3: So what about Okamoto?
- 28:41Speaker 5: I think his approach his I forget which which I
- 28:45Speaker 5: bat it was. He took a walk and it was
- 28:48Speaker 5: a borderline pitch a guy that is you know, it
- 28:51Speaker 5: looks like his approach is gap to Gap, it looks
- 28:55Speaker 5: like he has a very not advanced approach, because more
- 29:00Speaker 5: Tommy has an advanced approach. And in the big leagues,
- 29:02Speaker 5: you walk because guys are afraid of you, not because
- 29:06Speaker 5: oh this guy just can't find the zone. Those are
- 29:08Speaker 5: few and far between. And to me, Okamoto has the
- 29:12Speaker 5: ability and he showed it going APO in that situation
- 29:17Speaker 5: taking the walk later later in the game. I always
- 29:20Speaker 5: remember who was again since my fault, but it's it's
- 29:23Speaker 5: one of those things. To me, I feel like the numbers,
- 29:27Speaker 5: the money that they got, that each of those guys
- 29:29Speaker 5: got right now, just watching them against big league pitchers
- 29:33Speaker 5: is is about right. I obviously the defense for Okamoto's
- 29:37Speaker 5: is there too, So it's it's it's fun, it's fun
- 29:42Speaker 5: to watch. I made. I made a bold prediction, and
- 29:44Speaker 5: people might say I'm an idiot because I have a
- 29:47Speaker 5: you know, a two ZHO five career batting average. But
- 29:50Speaker 5: in twenty eighteen I got to see Juan Soto and
- 29:53Speaker 5: Ronald Acuna Junior for the first time, and I said,
- 29:56Speaker 5: whose career do you want more when they're done? So
- 30:02Speaker 5: I pose that question to anybody who has all these
- 30:04Speaker 5: rookies that we're talking about here today, whose career do
- 30:08Speaker 5: you want more? And then then you make the choice,
- 30:12Speaker 5: and then it's fun because all these guys are young,
- 30:14Speaker 5: even the guys from Japan, they're going to be around
- 30:17Speaker 5: here for five six years. So yes, we had an
- 30:20Speaker 5: awesome fun weekend. But choose who you think is going
- 30:23Speaker 5: to be the best based on the skill set. And
- 30:25Speaker 5: I thought Jan Sota was going to have a better
- 30:27Speaker 5: career so far. Akunyas showing me that, Hey, you know what,
- 30:31Speaker 5: athleticism and the ability to win MVP in seven fifty
- 30:37Speaker 5: seventy whatever, forty seventy you know. So I don't think
- 30:40Speaker 5: that jury's out yet, but I think these are the
- 30:42Speaker 5: discussions that are fun to have from a baseball sense,
- 30:46Speaker 5: not just a oh need O gang. He went four for.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Five, Well you started it, so let's finish with this
- 30:52Speaker 1: last minute here. Chase de Lotter hit four home runs
- 30:54Speaker 1: in his first three games, a big reason why the
- 30:57Speaker 1: Guardians ended up splitting a series with the Ironers. He
- 31:00Speaker 1: ended up breaking the no hip bid from Emerson Hancock,
- 31:04Speaker 1: who looks different this year too. We can cover that
- 31:05Speaker 1: a different day, But pick one guy out of the
- 31:08Speaker 1: billion rookies that shine so far in the first few games.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Who do you want long term? If you're in a
- 31:14Speaker 3: draft right now, which guy do you want?
- 31:16Speaker 2: Chase? Really? Yeah, I do seeing him.
- 31:19Speaker 4: He dropped the fly ball in the playoffs last year
- 31:21Speaker 4: and first guy come up got a knock.
- 31:24Speaker 2: They didn't win. The flyball didn't hurt him.
- 31:26Speaker 4: But to see him come back and just keep battling,
- 31:28Speaker 4: putting a smile on his face and doing what he's
- 31:30Speaker 4: doing now, that would be long term for me.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Chase for the later for sure.
- 31:35Speaker 3: That's the swing for you. Okay, Crats, that's a nice swing.
- 31:38Speaker 5: It's a nice swing. It's not like the most beautiful swing,
- 31:41Speaker 5: but man, he does some really really good things. I'm
- 31:44Speaker 5: taking Kevin McGonagall. I think that there's short arms. If
- 31:49Speaker 5: there's a trait I want, I want somebody to be
- 31:52Speaker 5: six foot three with five foot ten arms, like he's
- 31:56Speaker 5: got short arms, just like Mason Miller just said. He's
- 31:59Speaker 5: on the plate, he stays through the zone a long time,
- 32:02Speaker 5: and he's got a quick bat. I just I just
- 32:05Speaker 5: feel like guys who control the zone with a quick
- 32:08Speaker 5: bat and aren't only trying to do damage, but can
- 32:10Speaker 5: do damage. They have a longer, long sustained career.
- 32:15Speaker 4: And one we haven't talked about because he's not up
- 32:17Speaker 4: yet is Old Connor.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Ro Oh yeah, oh my god, we've seen him.
- 32:24Speaker 2: We will get his heini up there, let's go. We will.
- 32:27Speaker 2: We're gonna see him. Why talk to me? Why? Why not?
- 32:31Speaker 5: Because because I hate the Pirates, That's what it is.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Twitter thinks I hate the Pirates. That's why he's not. No,
- 32:37Speaker 5: the reason he's not up there is because he didn't
- 32:39Speaker 5: accept his one hundred million dollar extension. That's why he's
- 32:42Speaker 5: not up there. That dude should be playing in the
- 32:44Speaker 5: big leagues and should be learning in the big leagues.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Bingo, He's gonna come up as soon as he's eligible
- 32:49Speaker 1: for them to get the extra year because with this
- 32:51Speaker 1: rookie class, I think the chance of him winning an
- 32:53Speaker 1: l Rookie of the Year is lower, or being top
- 32:55Speaker 1: two whatever it is for them to get the pick.
- 32:56Speaker 1: So once you take that out of the equation, they
- 32:58Speaker 1: just want him up in the bigs as quick as possible.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And one last shoutout Owen Casey Atlas also looked really good.
- 33:03Speaker 1: You forget that he's a rookie since he had some
- 33:05Speaker 1: time last year. But part of that Edward Cabrera trade.
- 33:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 33:10Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 33:13Speaker 5: That's what he said.
- 33:14Speaker 3: That's what he said. We have some good ones.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Both of them revolve around booing and slow starts. So
- 33:21Speaker 1: we're going to hit Tony Vitello and Boba Schett. We'll
- 33:24Speaker 1: start with Vitello. There is a microscope on him because
- 33:29Speaker 1: of where he's coming from. In the modern game, we
- 33:31Speaker 1: have not seen a college coach jump from there to
- 33:34Speaker 1: the big leagues as a manager, and he happens to
- 33:36Speaker 1: be jumping to a team that's They're okay, they've been
- 33:39Speaker 1: five hundred dish, I feel like for a minute, right
- 33:41Speaker 1: since what twenty twenty one I think was their big
- 33:43Speaker 1: year for the Giants where they overtook the Dodgers.
- 33:45Speaker 3: For the division.
- 33:46Speaker 1: But anyway, they got swept dusted by the Yankees like
- 33:49Speaker 1: a clean sweep.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Never looked like they had a shot. They scored a
- 33:52Speaker 3: run in the series. Vitello. And this from a producer
- 33:56Speaker 3: out in San Francisco, Stephen Risoto posted this works for
- 33:59Speaker 3: ninety five seven the game.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 34:01Speaker 1: He posted this about Vytello. He said mention the emotion
- 34:04Speaker 1: level for the Giants was too high for perhaps from
- 34:07Speaker 1: a speech he made a few days ago to start
- 34:09Speaker 1: off the season. Robbie Ray and Hilliott Ramos downplayed it.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Ray said, we're all major league players. Ramos mentioned the
- 34:16Speaker 1: fact that it's just been two games, two games, and
- 34:19Speaker 1: obviously eventually it became three games in your sweep, But
- 34:23Speaker 1: still your thoughts on the Giants starting slow and how
- 34:29Speaker 1: much Vaytello is going to get scrutinized for every word
- 34:32Speaker 1: he said. He already has said he is unfiltered and
- 34:35Speaker 1: he is going to stay that way. I respect him
- 34:37Speaker 1: for that. I want to hear his honest take. My
- 34:39Speaker 1: only thing is is he playing this up too much?
- 34:42Speaker 3: In college?
- 34:43Speaker 1: If you got swept early on, it means more because
- 34:46Speaker 1: they play like a third of the games.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Oh, it means a lot more. It means oh my god,
- 34:51Speaker 4: this might be the end of the world.
- 34:53Speaker 2: No, but.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Fortunate enough for he.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Fortunate enough for Tony.
- 34:58Speaker 4: I feel like he wants to come out of the
- 34:59Speaker 4: shell and do you know, get the boys going and
- 35:02Speaker 4: do some chance and raw ros stuff. Its just not
- 35:05Speaker 4: gonna happen, you know, it is. It is what it is,
- 35:09Speaker 4: and you know I mean that with the best of
- 35:11Speaker 4: my heart. Oho and three, he wants I I honestly,
- 35:13Speaker 4: and I'm you know, I'm with the Yankees. I work
- 35:16Speaker 4: for the Yes Network. I honestly want him to win
- 35:18Speaker 4: the game so he can get one and say for
- 35:20Speaker 4: his family. The first game I ever won was against
- 35:23Speaker 4: the New York Yankees. Honestly, that's what I felt inside.
- 35:26Speaker 4: And then on the other side of my Yankees need
- 35:28Speaker 4: to win. So unfortunately for him, he didn't get to win.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Now he's probably you know, off day or whatever, and
- 35:35Speaker 4: now he's coming back like, Okay, man, I need to
- 35:38Speaker 4: find a way to get a win so I can
- 35:39Speaker 4: breathe a little bit. And I think that's what the
- 35:41Speaker 4: problem is right now. Getting off the schnide and getting
- 35:43Speaker 4: that first win for him. I think he's gonna get,
- 35:46Speaker 4: you know, be able to breathe a little bit better.
- 35:48Speaker 4: The Boys might do something fun for him, but it's
- 35:52Speaker 4: a different San Francisco team.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Man, I don't know, I don't know. They didn't They
- 35:56Speaker 2: didn't really look too good to me.
- 35:57Speaker 3: No, No, Yankees pitching is really good. Yeah, they're fast starters,
- 36:01Speaker 3: Todd you know, right like everything.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Was cranked and cam sch looked.
- 36:05Speaker 4: Phil Felix number one yelled at but they looked absolutely
- 36:10Speaker 4: insane and Giants just had nothing for him.
- 36:13Speaker 3: No, the offense was not there.
- 36:14Speaker 1: They picked up some guys you know Bader or some
- 36:16Speaker 1: others in the offseason, some pitching, but the hitting was
- 36:19Speaker 1: the problem to they they were completely shut down by
- 36:22Speaker 1: the Yanks.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Here's the deal, too, Krats.
- 36:24Speaker 1: They're about to go to San Diego for a three gamer,
- 36:27Speaker 1: then they're back home to take on the Mets and
- 36:29Speaker 1: the Phillies, and then they're on the road for the Orioles.
- 36:32Speaker 3: That's the start of their season.
- 36:34Speaker 1: That is a rough schedule to start the year in
- 36:36Speaker 1: terms of opponents, so it might not look pretty. And hey,
- 36:41Speaker 1: the Giants were pretty bad last year and then came
- 36:42Speaker 1: on strong towards the end of the season. Right, They
- 36:45Speaker 1: almost snuck in towards the end. I think they finished
- 36:48Speaker 1: maybe like two or three games out. But anyway, your
- 36:50Speaker 1: thoughts on all of this, and I think the main
- 36:52Speaker 1: response I want to get from you is to what
- 36:54Speaker 1: Todd father said about doing the ra ra and that
- 36:56Speaker 1: just doesn't work, because that's the key here is if
- 37:00Speaker 1: you're a college coach and you're successful, do you bring
- 37:03Speaker 1: the same game plan to the major leagues or do
- 37:06Speaker 1: you have to severely adjust the way that you operate
- 37:09Speaker 1: from personality perspective.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Why do you have to change? They hired you, they
- 37:14Speaker 5: didn't hire if they wanted somebody different, they would have
- 37:17Speaker 5: hired somebody that didn't need to change their their personality.
- 37:22Speaker 5: Buster Posey, there's very few GMS front office guys that
- 37:27Speaker 5: I would be like whatever he says, I'm on board
- 37:31Speaker 5: with Buster Posey's one of them, though, And this is
- 37:35Speaker 5: an overreaction to what's happened so far this year, three games,
- 37:40Speaker 5: like we can't you can't overreact too much. But you
- 37:43Speaker 5: also can't say, Wow, the manager is going to be
- 37:46Speaker 5: the one that's going to change this whole thing. No,
- 37:49Speaker 5: you hired him to be the guy that he is,
- 37:52Speaker 5: so he has to come in and fully embrace who
- 37:55Speaker 5: he is. And it's either going to work or it's not.
- 37:59Speaker 5: You got to go down. You got to go down
- 38:01Speaker 5: with your best punches. You can't try to like Gabe
- 38:03Speaker 5: kapler It and fake who you are. You have to
- 38:06Speaker 5: be who you are, and when you do well, you're like, Okay,
- 38:11Speaker 5: it worked, And when you're not doing well, okay, it's
- 38:15Speaker 5: not working. How can I adjust to the guys around me?
- 38:18Speaker 5: I think that's why they brought him in that Tony
- 38:20Speaker 5: Vaitello's not sitting here going, oh, you know, I know
- 38:24Speaker 5: everything there is about the big leagues. No, he's sitting
- 38:27Speaker 5: here saying this is who I am. He The only
- 38:31Speaker 5: part that was a little concerning to me was the
- 38:35Speaker 5: fact that the answer from Ilio Ramos and Robbie Ray
- 38:39Speaker 5: was you know, we're we're big leaders, like we got this,
- 38:43Speaker 5: Like he had a speech. And when you're losing, the
- 38:47Speaker 5: speeches kind of get annoying. And when you're winning, the
- 38:52Speaker 5: speeches are probably still annoying, but you can laugh them
- 38:54Speaker 5: off and say, ah, whatever, go for it Tony if
- 38:58Speaker 5: you know. But you just don't want early in the
- 38:59Speaker 5: see to be like, oh great, here we go. Here's
- 39:03Speaker 5: another speech. And Tony knows that people act like, oh
- 39:08Speaker 5: he came from college. He doesn't even speak the language
- 39:11Speaker 5: of Major League Baseball. No, like he got this job.
- 39:15Speaker 5: He will be fine. But the Giants have to swing
- 39:19Speaker 5: the bat and connect with the baseball.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yes, that's the thing right where the Giants in the NLS,
- 39:26Speaker 3: they might be third or fourth. That's part of the
- 39:28Speaker 3: problem too.
- 39:29Speaker 1: He did mention, now there's a little try hard right
- 39:31Speaker 1: now again, like all that stuff's early.
- 39:34Speaker 3: You get more of like the buy the book.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Answer from many other managers, and he just said, like
- 39:39Speaker 1: he's just gonna tell it like it is. If that's
- 39:40Speaker 1: what he feels, He's gonna say it, even if it's
- 39:42Speaker 1: only been two or three games. This episode is brought

- 40:34Speaker 1: Bobaschettow Slow Start one series. Mets won the series and
- 40:39Speaker 1: what's happening the Boo birds out already bo had a
- 40:43Speaker 1: great answer in my opinion here it is.
- 40:45Speaker 5: No if anything. I thought it took too long, but
- 40:51Speaker 5: I mean I get it.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I thought my events were terrible too, So.
- 40:57Speaker 3: How do you not love that?
- 40:58Speaker 4: You're a good answer because New York they were waiting
- 41:01Speaker 4: for something different, the old. Yeah, I'm giving him my
- 41:04Speaker 4: best shot, you know, you know, I feel good and
- 41:08Speaker 4: answer I will give.
- 41:08Speaker 2: I still feel good. You know, I'm just missing them
- 41:10Speaker 2: all about.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I watched the game of my son, Like I said,
- 41:14Speaker 4: I think he got five or six fastballs in one
- 41:17Speaker 4: of bat and he was either in between or late,
- 41:20Speaker 4: and I'm like, oh, he's not there right now, He's
- 41:23Speaker 4: not there. And that was like the one in bat
- 41:25Speaker 4: I saw the like big time aut and then he
- 41:27Speaker 4: had an opportunity to win the game and one of
- 41:29Speaker 4: the extra innings and Lindor Soto and he with bases loaded,
- 41:35Speaker 4: nobody out there, one nothing, two out, didn't do anything.
- 41:37Speaker 4: And I'm like, ooh, I texted my son. I'm like
- 41:40Speaker 4: not good, Like I bust my son's chops because he's
- 41:42Speaker 4: a big time that's.
- 41:43Speaker 1: But it's five minutes and Boba Schet's got the elite
- 41:46Speaker 1: hit tool.
- 41:47Speaker 2: He will be fine, right, well, pump the brakes, right.
- 41:50Speaker 2: What are we gonna say to Kratzy?
- 41:51Speaker 4: Maybe I should be like Kratzy then and be like, man, yeah, no,
- 41:54Speaker 4: swing's not there.
- 41:55Speaker 2: He's not gonna do good. He's gonna do great.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Sorry, he's gonna do great.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Now, that's exactly what you just said. You got you
- 42:03Speaker 5: got on me for forgetting for being honest. You saw it,
- 42:08Speaker 5: you saw the honest he was laid on the fastball.
- 42:11Speaker 5: That's it's part of the season. Like you can't you
- 42:15Speaker 5: can't go up. You can't go up in the big
- 42:17Speaker 5: leagues and be like, you know what, I'm not feeling it.
- 42:21Speaker 5: Just you know, I'm I'm gonna be able to I'll
- 42:24Speaker 5: be fine, Like I'll get hits. He knows heard John
- 42:27Speaker 5: Crupp say at one time he was like nobody ever
- 42:30Speaker 5: got booed in Philly as the home player because they
- 42:34Speaker 5: were booing them or in a situation where you weren't
- 42:37Speaker 5: booing yourself, like Bobachett's not sitting there, Like, how could
- 42:41Speaker 5: these guys be saying this New York is a monster? No,
- 42:46Speaker 5: it's not like relax like Boba Schett is going to
- 42:49Speaker 5: probably lead the league in hits. And I'll tell you
- 42:52Speaker 5: why because unless he's injured, which I don't think he's injured,
- 42:58Speaker 5: he is going to get pitches to hit, and he
- 43:00Speaker 5: can hit pitches out of the zone. When he gets
- 43:02Speaker 5: his timing going, he will be one of the better
- 43:06Speaker 5: hitters and he'll be up in the top top three
- 43:09Speaker 5: in hits in the league. I think he's gonna lead
- 43:11Speaker 5: the league in hits because of the fact that he
- 43:13Speaker 5: has Lindor around him, that he has Juan Soto around him,
- 43:17Speaker 5: that he has a lineup that is going to enable
- 43:21Speaker 5: him to get pitches. He's gonna swing at a lot of pitches,
- 43:24Speaker 5: so Mets fans pump the brakes when he swings at
- 43:26Speaker 5: a bad pitch. It's okay because Boba Schet's not gonna walk.
- 43:31Speaker 5: You're gonna have Juan Soto hitting near him in the lineup,
- 43:33Speaker 5: and you're gonna be like, well, why doesn't he just
- 43:36Speaker 5: do it like Wan does Yo? I love Sodo. He's
- 43:39Speaker 5: always walking all the time. No, Like, that's not bo.
- 43:43Speaker 5: Bo's gonna He's gonna get close to two hundred hits.
- 43:46Speaker 5: If not, he clips it. This year. So you're going
- 43:48Speaker 5: to have days where the swing and the timing of
- 43:51Speaker 5: the pitches aren't quite there, and that's okay.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Yeah he's gonna be fine. Great, great answer, just an
- 43:58Speaker 3: A plus answer to the crowd.
- 44:00Speaker 4: And if you're a Mets fan, you're like, all right, respect,
- 44:03Speaker 4: I'll put a smile.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Yep, respect. I should have buded me sooner. That's good.
- 44:07Speaker 1: It's like taking a shot, but for fun in a
- 44:09Speaker 1: way where you understand your fan base. Now, we have
- 44:14Speaker 1: a quick graphic to show everyone on the opening day
- 44:17Speaker 1: rosters who was old and who is young? Talking about teams, krats,
- 44:23Speaker 1: the oldest team is the Atlanta Braves. The youngest team
- 44:27Speaker 1: the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 44:30Speaker 5: And look at the LA Dodgers. Everyone's like, oh, they
- 44:34Speaker 5: got their middle of the pack. Saint Louis Cardinals. Good
- 44:37Speaker 5: for you. You got rid of all your players. That's
- 44:39Speaker 5: all that means. Atlanta has been building this roster. They're
- 44:42Speaker 5: not I wouldn't even say they're that old. I would
- 44:44Speaker 5: not have said that, but they're all aging together.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 1: There just aren't many rookies on that team, right. If
- 44:52Speaker 1: you get a few, well there's one. How you say,
- 44:55Speaker 1: dider Fuentes. He's twenty, right, so he brings that average down.
- 45:00Speaker 1: But then basically everybody else is dirting their spikes. So
- 45:04Speaker 1: that's a big difference there, and that includes even you know,
- 45:07Speaker 1: a more veteran bullpen, right. You just look up and
- 45:10Speaker 1: down the board, and Chris Sale obviously brings the number up.
- 45:14Speaker 1: But yeah, I agree. I don't look at that team
- 45:15Speaker 1: and go, oh, this team's old. I just I think
- 45:18Speaker 1: a lot of the guys are or should be in
- 45:20Speaker 1: their prime years. When you go by the yeah, I
- 45:22Speaker 1: think it's like.
- 45:24Speaker 5: You said, it's the average, it's the average age of
- 45:26Speaker 5: the team. It brings it all up because they don't
- 45:29Speaker 5: have those young guys. I'm sure the Padres. I didn't
- 45:30Speaker 5: even see the Padres on there. I forgot to look
- 45:32Speaker 5: at it. But talking to Mason Miller, I was like,
- 45:35Speaker 5: in my head, I'm going through their roster. I'm like,
- 45:38Speaker 5: they don't have a lot of young guys on there.
- 45:39Speaker 5: I mean, I get it, Jackson Merrill's on there, Fernando
- 45:42Speaker 5: Tatis isn't that old. But teams that want to win
- 45:45Speaker 5: usually are going for those prime age veterans that will
- 45:51Speaker 5: bring your age. I was surprised the Phillies. The Phillies
- 45:54Speaker 5: aren't one of the I thought the Phillies would be
- 45:57Speaker 5: one of the top old teams. But they're ten, top five,
- 46:01Speaker 5: they're top ten.
- 46:02Speaker 1: They're top ten. They look like they're eight or nine.
- 46:04Speaker 1: San Diego's right next to them. Texas Yankees Mets are
- 46:07Speaker 1: also very old.
- 46:10Speaker 5: Show me the Money.
- 46:20Speaker 1: This one slipped in right after our show ended on Friday.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Shane Boz an extension with the Baltimore Orioles, So he's
- 46:27Speaker 1: going to spend more time with the team sixty eight
- 46:29Speaker 1: million bucks five years. And it was funny when they
- 46:34Speaker 1: talked to him.
- 46:34Speaker 3: Kratz.
- 46:35Speaker 1: He was like, no, you don't know me well yet
- 46:38Speaker 1: Os fans, but I'm going to bring it for you
- 46:41Speaker 1: every day.
- 46:42Speaker 3: I mean he just joined the team.
- 46:46Speaker 5: I mean just joined the team. And they said, you
- 46:49Speaker 5: know what, we like the fact that you made all
- 46:51Speaker 5: your starts last year. We like the fact that I
- 46:54Speaker 5: get it you're with the Rays, but they don't have
- 46:57Speaker 5: all the answers and the number the numbers not bad
- 47:01Speaker 5: on both sides. Like I get it. People are like, oh, man,
- 47:05Speaker 5: if he hits his potential, yeah, I get that too,
- 47:09Speaker 5: But good for the Orioles, saying you know what, We're
- 47:11Speaker 5: not gonna go out and make that mega splash in
- 47:14Speaker 5: the free agency market, but we're definitely not gonna let
- 47:17Speaker 5: some of these guys go after I was kind of
- 47:20Speaker 5: against them letting Grayson Rodriguez go because I thought he
- 47:23Speaker 5: would kind of be that guy. They didn't see it
- 47:26Speaker 5: that way. So good for them not only going and
- 47:29Speaker 5: making the move for a guy they like, but doubling
- 47:32Speaker 5: down on it and saying we're gonna keep him around.
- 47:35Speaker 5: I thought they should have done this with Corbyn Burns. Hey,
- 47:37Speaker 5: you know what, Corbyn Burns missed the entire year with
- 47:39Speaker 5: Tommy John So the Orioles they're making moves. Obviously, he's
- 47:44Speaker 5: got to go out and do what he did last
- 47:45Speaker 5: year because making all your starts. This, if he just
- 47:49Speaker 5: makes all his starts, I don't care really how he does.
- 47:51Speaker 5: He makes his starts in the big leagues. This contract's
- 47:54Speaker 5: worth every penny.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and Burns is getting four x on guaranteed dollars
- 47:58Speaker 1: compared to this. It's different because Boz is going through
- 48:01Speaker 1: his arbitration years right now. They bought out two years
- 48:03Speaker 1: of free agency for Boz last year. Full starts, the peripherals,
- 48:09Speaker 1: the stuff plus numbers things that front offices love looked good.
- 48:13Speaker 1: The road numbers and the or sorry, the home numbers
- 48:15Speaker 1: and the home homer numbers were not great, but he
- 48:18Speaker 1: was pitching in a minor league park where there were
- 48:21Speaker 1: more homers, so that was part of the mix there too.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I mean, I think that this is going to turn
- 48:27Speaker 1: out to be quite the bargain. I think this guy's
- 48:29Speaker 1: going to be good. I think the floor is like
- 48:31Speaker 1: a three starter and the ceiling is a two or
- 48:33Speaker 1: one starter in terms of stuff. And he was drafted
- 48:36Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen. Last year was his full, first full season.
- 48:39Speaker 1: It's like eight years later, you're a pitcher, arms of
- 48:43Speaker 1: taking time bomb. You take these deals when you get
- 48:46Speaker 1: that opportunity, and you're Shane Boss quickly on Nico Horner,
- 48:49Speaker 1: we learned it's one forty one over six because we
- 48:52Speaker 1: did that talk last week, and there are ten million dollars.
- 48:55Speaker 3: Of deferred money. Deferred money in there.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Let's show the Bob Night and l Tweed, he said,
- 49:00Speaker 1: anyone accusing the Cubs for ruining baseball. They have easily
- 49:03Speaker 1: spent more money than any team in baseball this winter,
- 49:05Speaker 1: four hundred eighty eight million dollars after Nico Horner's six.
- 49:11Speaker 5: I'm just gonna I'm just gonna comment on the tweet.
- 49:14Speaker 5: That's exactly right, Bob. All it is is people hating
- 49:18Speaker 5: on the Dodgers because they ate him. Don't hate him
- 49:20Speaker 5: because you ain't them. You know what, people had opportunities
- 49:24Speaker 5: to knock the big bad Dodgers off. Now the Cubs
- 49:27Speaker 5: are gonna be the big bad Cubs. And if they win,
- 49:29Speaker 5: are people gonna say the same thing. I don't know,
- 49:32Speaker 5: but like no, like good for the Cubs, good for
- 49:35Speaker 5: Nico Horner, good and deferred money cheaters, freaking cheaters, all.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Of them, all fifteen teams that are doing it. Thirty
- 49:47Speaker 1: six career homers entering this year, and gets that kind
- 49:50Speaker 1: of money for everything else he.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Does, which is really cool.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Hey, let's slap and a shout out to Dom Smith,
- 50:08Speaker 1: who unfortunately lost his mother just thirteen days prior to
- 50:12Speaker 1: that walk off Grand Slam he had over the weekend.
- 50:15Speaker 1: She lost a battle with cancer. Dom had the big
- 50:18Speaker 1: Granny in front of a pat house in Atlanta. Just
- 50:21Speaker 1: a really cool moment for Himocrat, a guy who's bounced
- 50:24Speaker 1: around the league a little bit. And then he said,
- 50:26Speaker 1: Ronald mccuney Junior signed a baseball for the fan who
- 50:28Speaker 1: caught it so that they could get the baseball back.
- 50:32Speaker 5: That's awesome, that's awesome. She was diagnosed in September, I think,
- 50:37Speaker 5: is what I remember him saying, and like he had
- 50:39Speaker 5: to deal with it the entire offseason. Here's a lot
- 50:42Speaker 5: of uneasiness, uncertainty about, oh am, I going to do
- 50:45Speaker 5: well this year. I worked so hard all this stuff.
- 50:48Speaker 5: Spring went good, it went bad, blah blah blah. To
- 50:51Speaker 5: deal with that off the field also, and then to
- 50:53Speaker 5: be able to hit this absolutely awesome home run coming
- 50:58Speaker 5: off the bench. He's never going to be the starter
- 51:00Speaker 5: on this team because unless there's injuries, so I mean,
- 51:05Speaker 5: just epic story. Feel awful for him is for losing
- 51:09Speaker 5: his mom, but to be able to do this on
- 51:11Speaker 5: the field, it kind of gave him, hopefully, gave him
- 51:13Speaker 5: some reprieve during a tough time.
- 51:16Speaker 1: And for the Braves a much better start to their
- 51:19Speaker 1: season than last year when they went oh and seven.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Alex Anthopolis was talking about how they also were on
- 51:24Speaker 1: the road right before that for an exhibition series against
- 51:26Speaker 1: the Cubs. Then they went there, so they felt like
- 51:28Speaker 1: they were on the road forever. Did you know that
- 51:30Speaker 1: this was the first home opener for Austin Riley. That's
- 51:32Speaker 1: how long it had been since the Braves played at
- 51:34Speaker 1: home to start their season. The schedule at the beginning
- 51:37Speaker 1: of the year is always so weird strange. Who do
- 51:40Speaker 1: you got today?
- 51:41Speaker 3: By the way?
- 51:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 51:43Speaker 5: Chinese typeey little WBC Chinese typey hat. The WBC hats
- 51:48Speaker 5: are so cool. The logo just popped. But that opening
- 51:51Speaker 5: day stuff, I don't get it. All cold weather teams
- 51:54Speaker 5: should be down south.
