- 1:48my RO water here.

- 2:13That is after the show is over.
- 2:15Welcome everyone to another ever-popular episode of
- 2:18the Inspirations for Your Life Show.
- 2:20Who am I?
- 2:20I'm John C.
- 2:22Morley.
- 2:22I'm a serial entrepreneur.
- 2:24I'm an engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast
- 2:26host, coach, keynote speaker, passionate lifelong learner, graduate
- 2:30student at Montclair State University, and so grateful
- 2:32now to be a published author.
- 2:34Our master topic this week is your next
- 2:39level will demand a different you, a different
- 2:41kind of you.
- 2:42So today I'm asking whether you can reach
- 2:45your next level while remaining the same person
- 2:47you are right now.
- 2:49A different future may require different habits, stronger
- 2:53standards, new skills, and even better decisions.
- 2:57Number one, guys, your next level requires more
- 3:00than your current patterns.
- 3:03Yeah, more than your current patterns.
- 3:05So I know that's hard for a lot
- 3:07of people to digest, but that's what it's
- 3:09going to take.
- 3:10It's going to take more than your current
- 3:13patterns.
- 3:15That's important, okay?
- 3:17So your current patterns created many of your
- 3:19current results.
- 3:21Keep what works, but be willing to change
- 3:23what keeps you stuck.
- 3:25Number two, you can't build a different future
- 3:28by repeating the same version of yourself.
- 3:31A different future requires different choices.
- 3:34You don't have to become someone fake, but
- 3:37you do have to grow beyond patterns that
- 3:40no longer serve you.
- 3:42And you don't have to be upset about
- 3:45it.
- 3:45You just have to realize that now it's
- 3:47time to change who you really are.
- 3:50Okay, I think that's an important thing, right?
- 3:52Change is good.
- 3:54Number three, guys, stop expecting new results from
- 3:57old behavior.
- 3:57We learned this from Einstein many times before.
- 4:01Doing the same thing over and over again,
- 4:03expecting new results.
- 4:04What is that, guys?
- 4:05That is insanity.
- 4:06Yes, it is.
- 4:10So if the behavior stays the same, the
- 4:14outcome often does too.
- 4:17Change what you're repeatedly doing if you want
- 4:20something different.
- 4:22Number four, guys, identify what the current version
- 4:27of you keeps tolerating.
- 4:28Look at wasted time, weak boundaries, distractions, and
- 4:33unfinished commitments.
- 4:35What you tolerate can quietly become your new
- 4:37standard.
- 4:38Number five, your next level requires habits you
- 4:42haven't mastered yet.
- 4:43That's okay.
- 4:44Habits can be developed.
- 4:46Start practicing now.
- 4:48What your future will require later, okay, is
- 4:52okay.
- 4:53Just practice now, all right?
- 4:55Number six, guys, become more disciplined than your
- 4:59current circumstances demand.
- 5:01Don't wait for pressure to force discipline upon
- 5:05you.
- 5:05Build it while you have room to practice.
- 5:09Number seven, stop carrying old excuses into new
- 5:13opportunities.
- 5:14A new opportunity won't automatically erase an old
- 5:17excuse.
- 5:18Leave behind the stories that keep telling you
- 5:21why you can't move forward, all right?
- 5:24Number eight, what got you here may not
- 5:27be enough to take you there.
- 5:30Respect what worked before without becoming trapped by
- 5:35it.
- 5:35Growth sometimes requires upgrading the strategy.
- 5:39I think a lot of people feel that
- 5:41they never need to change the strategy, but
- 5:43the truth of the matter, guys, is yes,
- 5:45we have to change our strategy.
- 5:46We have to change the way we do
- 5:47things, especially as life morphs and changes.
- 5:50We have to become that new version of
- 5:53ourselves, the ones that people have, you know,
- 5:57wanted to know about for so very long.
- 6:00And I'm here to tell you that you
- 6:02can become a better version of you.
- 6:04Number nine, your future requires your present self,
- 6:09and you may not have that self yet.
- 6:16Identify what you need to learn and begin
- 6:18now.
- 6:19A missing skill is not a permanent limitation,
- 6:22all right?
- 6:23I think some people think that if something's
- 6:25missing, that they're done for life.
- 6:27They're not.
- 6:29Number 10, stop protecting behaviors that belong to
- 6:32an older version of you.
- 6:35Familiar doesn't mean useful, guys.
- 6:37Stop defending behavior you already know works against
- 6:41your future.
- 6:42Why do people do that?
- 6:43I'll tell you why.
- 6:44It's because of that big thing, E-G
- 6:47-O.
- 6:48People don't want to admit that maybe they're
- 6:51wrong, right?
- 6:54That maybe they can learn something.
- 6:57I think we all need to learn something,
- 6:59okay?
- 7:00We all need to learn something.
- 7:05And that's a big thing, okay?
- 7:11And maybe you're going to say to me,
- 7:12John, you know, that's great, but I'm not
- 7:15ready for that change.
- 7:16We don't have to make the whole change
- 7:18tonight, cold turkey.
- 7:20You can change little things over time.
- 7:25And as you do that, you'll start to
- 7:27appreciate what's happening, okay?
- 7:32And that's something I think that a lot
- 7:34of people don't realize.
- 7:37They don't realize that that's happening.
- 7:44And I think the reason they don't realize
- 7:46is because they don't want to realize it.
- 7:48They don't want to know that there's something
- 7:50that is changing their life, okay?
- 7:54And that's something that a lot of people,
- 7:56for whatever reason, just don't seem to understand
- 7:59like why.
- 8:01But the big why is why you can't
- 8:03do something.
- 8:04And why you can't do something is all
- 8:08about you and your choices in life.
- 8:11No one else, okay?
- 8:13You're responsible for you.
- 8:15Number 11, guys, growth begins when staying the
- 8:19same becomes unacceptable.
- 8:24When you are tired with that, no change.
- 8:29Change becomes real when you decide the cost
- 8:32of remaining where you are is greater than
- 8:35discomfort of moving forward.
- 8:37How do I explain this?
- 8:39Okay.
- 8:40You may be in some discomfort.
- 8:42People have once said to me, John, when
- 8:45the discomfort is greater, okay, then not changing,
- 8:53you'll change.
- 8:55It's sad when that has to happen, but
- 8:58it's true, okay?
- 9:00Number 12, your next level will require stronger
- 9:03standards.
- 9:05Raise what you expect from your preparation, consistency,
- 9:08communication, and of course, follow through.
- 9:14Number 13, become capable of doing what the
- 9:17old you avoided.
- 9:25Growth means learning to face the difficult tasks.
- 9:29Decisions and conversations you once kept postponing.
- 9:33We'll do it tomorrow.
- 9:34We'll do it later.
- 9:36But you ever notice that later never comes?
- 9:38You just keep postponing it longer and longer
- 9:42and longer.
- 9:42And you're like, what happened?
- 9:45You delayed things.
- 9:49Number 14, make decisions your future self will
- 9:51be grateful for.
- 9:52Not every good decision feels rewarding today.
- 9:55Let's face that.
- 9:56Choose what creates a stronger tomorrow.
- 9:59Number 15, stop returning to the identity you're
- 10:03trying to outgrow.
- 10:04Your past can explain you without controlling you.
- 10:08Stop using yesterday's identity as a limit on
- 10:11tomorrow.
- 10:13Number 16, your comfort zone was built for
- 10:19the person you are today.
- 10:23Yeah.
- 10:24Growth will sometimes feel unfamiliar.
- 10:29That discomfort can be evidence that you're moving
- 10:32beyond what you've always known.
- 10:37Let's think about that for just a moment,
- 10:39OK?
- 10:39Number 17, become willing to feel uncomfortable while
- 10:44you change.
- 10:47Become willing to feel uncomfortable while you change.
- 10:50I said success lies in the uncomfortable zone.
- 10:54Learning, setting boundaries, and trying something new can
- 10:57feel uncomfortable.
- 10:58Don't automatically interpret discomfort as a reason to
- 11:01stop.
- 11:03Number 18, stop asking your old habits to
- 11:07create a new life.
- 11:08Old habits are excellent at producing familiar outcomes.
- 11:12New outcomes require better repetitions.
- 11:16Number 19, your next level may require different
- 11:21boundaries, maybe boundaries that you haven't even thought
- 11:24about yet.
- 11:25But these are things that your life is
- 11:27going to change, OK?
- 11:29So your next level may require different boundaries,
- 11:31ones that you're not familiar with.
- 11:33You may need to protect your time.
- 11:37Say no more often.
- 11:41And become more selective about what gets you
- 11:45energy.
- 11:48Number 20, protect your time like the person
- 11:54you're becoming would protect it with.
- 11:58Ask how your future self would use today.
- 12:01Then start treating your time the way you
- 12:07would then now.
- 12:15Number 21, guys, change how you respond when
- 12:20things become difficult or challenging.
- 12:25I think that's hard for a lot of
- 12:28people because they want everything easy.
- 12:31But then when it's not, they run to
- 12:34the hills or they give up.
- 12:38That's important, guys.
- 12:40Very important.
- 12:44Changing how you respond when things become difficult
- 12:47is something a lot of people just push
- 12:48to the side.
- 12:49Difficulty reveals your patterns, guys.
- 12:52Learn to respond with thought, intentional thought, I
- 12:56should say.
- 12:57Discipline and action.
- 12:58Instead of immediately just retreating for the hills,
- 13:01oh my gosh, we're doomed.
- 13:03The thought in your head says you're doomed,
- 13:06but you're not doomed.
- 13:08All right, let's be serious.
- 13:10Number 22, stop needing the same approval you
- 13:17once depended on years ago.
- 13:19Good advice matters, but growth requires enough confidence
- 13:26to make responsible decisions without constant reassurance.
- 13:31When you keep getting reassurance, you might say,
- 13:33gee, this is great.
- 13:34But you know what happens when you don't
- 13:36get it?
- 13:36You're like, oh my gosh, how do I
- 13:39do this on my own?
- 13:41Oh, you weren't taught how to do it
- 13:43on your own.
- 13:43So you feel it's OK to just basically
- 13:46do what you're doing.
- 13:51I think that's an important piece, OK?
- 13:57A very important piece that many people don't
- 13:59understand, OK?
- 14:05That's a challenge for a lot of people,
- 14:11OK?
- 14:13That's a challenge.
- 14:15And a lot of people will push things
- 14:17to the side because they don't want to
- 14:19deal with that.
- 14:20They want to just look at the easy
- 14:22road.
- 14:23And the easy road is nice, don't get
- 14:24me wrong.
- 14:25But success lies where discomfort begins.
- 14:33I didn't say pain, I said discomfort, OK?
- 14:38That's important, guys.
- 14:40Number 23, become more consistent than you ever
- 14:45have been before.
- 14:47You don't need perfection, ladies and gentlemen.
- 14:50You need enough good decisions connected together to
- 14:54create a dependable pattern.
- 14:57You know what happens when we have dependable
- 14:58patterns?
- 15:01We form habits.
- 15:04Those habits become automatic.
- 15:07You know what happens next?
- 15:09We create a successful life.
- 15:12That's a very important thing to acknowledge.
- 15:17You don't need perfection.
- 15:20You need enough good decisions connected together to
- 15:23create a dependable pattern.
- 15:25That's it, guys.
- 15:29Number 24, your next opportunity may demand a
- 15:33version of you that doesn't exist yet.
- 15:36That's OK.
- 15:37The opportunity you want may require more skill,
- 15:43patience, confidence, and responsibility than you've developed thus
- 15:49far.
- 15:50That doesn't mean quit.
- 15:52That doesn't mean give up.
- 15:58It means embrace the change.
- 16:01And everything I've done that's been successful, the
- 16:04first thing I've done it was never easy.
- 16:06But as I learned the skills, got the
- 16:12experience, next time it became a lot easier.
- 16:16A time after that, it became even easier.
- 16:20Number 25, guys.
- 16:24This is one of my ultimate favorites.
- 16:28Please build the version before you desperately need
- 16:33it.
- 16:36How many people have ever tried to borrow
- 16:38money?
- 16:39I'm sure you have, right?
- 16:40And the thing is, when you go to
- 16:41a bank and saying, I need money, guess
- 16:44what they say?
- 16:45No, no, no.
- 16:47When you go to the bank, when you
- 16:48have money, like, oh, sure, we'll be happy
- 16:51to lend you more money.
- 16:52Seems like an oxymoron, but that's how the
- 16:55system works.
- 16:56Same caveat here.
- 16:59Prepare before the opportunity actually arrives.
- 17:04Develop the habits, the skills, and the discipline
- 17:08now.
- 17:10What you're doing, ladies and gentlemen, is you're
- 17:12laying the groundwork for your future.
- 17:15Somebody once told me, John, you could do
- 17:17the work now or do the work later.
- 17:19You can work harder now or work easier
- 17:22later and work harder later.
- 17:23I'd rather work harder now and have it
- 17:25easier later, right?
- 17:29So do the hard work now and it
- 17:31gets easier, right?
- 17:33Prepare before the opportunity arrives.
- 17:36Number 26, guys, please stop waiting for your
- 17:40future to force you to grow.
- 17:43It's just gonna frustrate you and it's gonna
- 17:45burn you out.
- 17:47You can choose growth before circumstances make it
- 17:50unavoidable.
- 17:55Start becoming more capable today.
- 17:58Start becoming more capable today.
- 18:01That's important.
- 18:03Number 27, prove through action, okay, that you're
- 18:09no longer the same person you were before.
- 18:13You don't need to announce your transformation.
- 18:16Hey, everyone, I'm now this.
- 18:18Who cares?
- 18:19Let your choices, boundaries, consistency, and follow through
- 18:23demonstrate.
- 18:23You don't need to announce yourself.
- 18:28You're walking quietly.
- 18:31We'll do that.
- 18:32People will notice your mannerisms.
- 18:35Number 28, your next level isn't asking you
- 18:38to pretend to be someone else.
- 18:40Let me be clear on this.
- 18:42Growth isn't a performance.
- 18:44You're not creating a fake identity here.
- 18:47You're developing abilities that haven't reached their full
- 18:50potential, right?
- 18:55You're starting a new skill.
- 18:57Number 29, it's asking you to become more
- 19:02of who you're capable of being.
- 19:04I'm not asking you to be someone else.
- 19:10Let's be very clear on that, all right?
- 19:13Your next level isn't about copying somebody else's
- 19:17success.
- 19:18It's about discovering what becomes possible when you
- 19:22stop settling.
- 19:23Let me see if I can explain this.
- 19:24So, you know, lots of times I build
- 19:27things, right?
- 19:27And when you start and you're in the
- 19:30runway or your plane is still on the
- 19:33ground or your boat is still at the
- 19:34dock or your train's still in the station,
- 19:37do you know what happens?
- 19:39One or two people come around like, oh,
- 19:41I wanna be part of you.
- 19:42But then when they see it's still being
- 19:45built and it's not successful yet, they leave.
- 19:53And then when you call them on the
- 19:54carpet and say, hey, I thought you wanted
- 19:56to help build this, they disappear because they
- 20:01are selfish.
- 20:03When those people come back, I certainly don't
- 20:06fall over them.
- 20:09Respect is a two-way street, guys.
- 20:11Number 30, you can't reach your next level
- 20:14as the same person.
- 20:16And when you do that, other people are
- 20:17gonna fall out of your life.
- 20:18New people are gonna come in.
- 20:20Become the person who can be that.
- 20:23Keep your strengths, but stop carrying every excuse
- 20:27on your sleeve.
- 20:28Weak habits and outdated identity into your future.
- 20:32You're better than that.
- 20:33Your next level isn't simply a destination.
- 20:37It's a level of responsibility, discipline, consistency, a
- 20:40capability you're learning to carry.
- 20:43We often say we want more while protecting
- 20:45the very patterns that keep us where we
- 20:48are today.
- 20:49Maybe the old you procrastinates when something becomes
- 20:52difficult.
- 20:53The person you're becoming begins anyway.
- 20:57Maybe the old you needs everyone's approval or
- 21:00that pat on the back or that public,
- 21:03yeah, great job.
- 21:04The person you're becoming listens to good advice
- 21:07but can still make a responsible decision.
- 21:09Maybe the old gives distractions, control of the
- 21:13day.
- 21:15The person you're becoming protects time with intention.
- 21:19You build the next version of yourself one
- 21:21decision at a time one stronger boundary, one
- 21:24completed commitment, one new skill, one moment when
- 21:27you could return to an old pattern but
- 21:29choose anything, which is something better.
- 21:32Those moments become evidence.
- 21:34Eventually you stop saying you're trying to become
- 21:37disciplined because you've been practicing it.
- 21:40Your actions begin proving the change.
- 21:43Don't say I'm trying to become successful.
- 21:46Say I'm becoming successful.
- 21:48That's the question I want you to leave
- 21:50in your mind today.
- 21:53What does the future you're asking for require
- 21:55from you or for you to become?
- 21:57What skills do you need to become that?
- 22:00What habits do you need?
- 22:01What boundaries do you need to set?
- 22:02What level of discipline do you need?
- 22:04What needs to change before the opportunity arrives?
- 22:07Don't reject everything about who you are today.
- 22:10Bring your strengths, lessons and experience with you
- 22:14but don't you dare bring every limitation simply
- 22:18because it's familiar and it's comfortable to you
- 22:20like a blanket.
- 22:21This week we've talked about patterns, avoidance, discipline,
- 22:26excuses, standards and results.
- 22:28All of it leads right here in the
- 22:31middle.
- 22:33And you're probably wondering, what is that?
- 22:39Your next level demands growth guys.
- 22:41You can't control every opportunity, obstacle or even
- 22:45opinion, but you can become more prepared, capable,
- 22:48disciplined and intentional right now.
- 22:52Do that work now so when the opportunity
- 22:55arrives, you've got the ticket and you're ready
- 23:00to board.
- 23:03I think a lot of people, they do
- 23:05something for now because they think now is
- 23:07gonna be quick but now is not quick,
- 23:11all right?
- 23:11Now is something that takes time and if
- 23:13you try to rush it, it will burn
- 23:16you every single time.
- 23:18Ladies and gentlemen, I am Jon Seymour.
- 23:21I'm a serial entrepreneur and a lot more
- 23:24and this has been another amazing episode of
- 23:27the ever popular Inspirations For Your Life Show.
- 23:30Your next level isn't asking you to stop
- 23:35being yourself.
- 23:35Let me be very clear on that.
- 23:38Your next level isn't asking you to stop
- 23:40being yourself.
- 23:42It is asking you to stop limiting yourself
- 23:46to the version of you that exists only
- 23:49today.
- 23:49The reason that you are only you today
- 23:52and you're not where you wanna be is
- 23:55because you're not working on yourself.
- 23:57You're not working on the skills you need
- 23:58to get there.
- 24:00All right, that's important guys.
- 24:02That's very, very important, okay?
- 24:06Your next level isn't asking you to stop
- 24:08being yourself.
- 24:08It's asking you to stop limiting yourself to
- 24:11the version of you that exists only today
- 24:14and you won't get further if you don't
- 24:18acknowledge this.
- 24:19I don't care if it's ego that's preventing
- 24:21you, if it's friends, it's family.
- 24:23I want you to get serious with yourself
- 24:25and do this right.
- 24:27Okay?
- 24:30Ladies and gentlemen, I wanna encourage you to
- 24:32keep learning.
- 24:33Learning can be going back to school.
- 24:36It could be reading a book.
- 24:37It could be listening to podcasts and different
- 24:40shows like this.
- 24:41It could be going to seminars like keynotes
- 24:44that I give or other author talks.
- 24:49I want you to keep growing.
- 24:52Why?
- 24:54When you grow, your capabilities expand.
- 24:58When your capabilities expand, you can help others.
- 25:02And guess what happens in this process?
- 25:04Others grow.
- 25:06You ever heard the saying, when you help
- 25:08someone else with a problem they're having, which
- 25:11is the same problem you're having, you help
- 25:12yourself.
- 25:14I want you to please keep building what
- 25:16your future will need.
- 25:18I'm not telling you that you're gonna build
- 25:21it all in one day.
- 25:22Rome wasn't built in one day, right?
- 25:24If we ask this question right now, does
- 25:26anybody even know how many days did it
- 25:30take to build Rome?
- 25:35How many days did it take?
- 25:37It took a long time, right?
- 25:41Didn't take days.
- 25:43Took years.
- 25:46The Colosseum took eight to 10 years to
- 25:48build.
- 25:48The Pantheon took 10 years to complete.
- 25:53But they didn't give up.
- 25:54They kept working on it.
- 25:56They kept honing on their craft.
- 26:01Do you think experts start as experts when
- 26:04they first emerge?
- 26:06No.
- 26:08No.
- 26:09No.
- 26:10No.
- 26:12It takes dedication.
- 26:14It takes commitment.
- 26:15It takes intentional daily activities.
- 26:18They don't have to be big activities, but
- 26:20they need to be consistent daily.
- 26:23Can't do a little today and then do
- 26:25none tomorrow or do a lot today.
- 26:28You need to do the same amount every
- 26:29day so you can be sustainable.
- 26:33I think that's a big thing that I
- 26:34wanna share with you.
- 26:35So you can't reach the next level, guys,
- 26:41as the same person.
- 26:43You can't reach the next level as the
- 26:47same person.
- 26:48What does that even mean, John?
- 26:51Well, your boundaries have to change.
- 26:54Your attitude may have to change.
- 26:57Maybe the fact that you say yes to
- 26:58everybody.
- 26:59I know I did this and I admit
- 27:01it.
- 27:01I always wanna be nice to people.
- 27:03Like, oh, of course I'll help you.
- 27:05What did that do to me?
- 27:07It robbed me of my freedom to get
- 27:10to my success faster.
- 27:15Saying no to others and yes to yourself
- 27:17is not being disrespectful, is not being mean.
- 27:21It's doing what's right for you.
- 27:26I want you to become the person who
- 27:28can do these kinds of things.
- 27:30But you know, ladies and gentlemen, you're never
- 27:32gonna be that person.
- 27:34If you're always saying, well, gee, what does
- 27:36this one think?
- 27:37Is it okay if I do this?
- 27:39Is it okay if I do that?
- 27:42I don't care.
- 27:45You know how many people told me, John,
- 27:46you shouldn't go back to school.
- 27:47There's no point.
- 27:48I didn't go back to school for anybody
- 27:49else.
- 27:49I went back for me.
- 27:51I love education.
