- 0:39age. It's a mix of stories of how we
- 0:40navigate our lives and maybe some questionable advice.
- 0:43Some days we're wise, other days we're just trying to remember
- 0:46where the heck we left our phone.
- 0:47So join us as we laugh, groan, and maybe even learn a little
- 0:50something about surviving in the second-half of life.
- 0:53Oh, and one more thing. Hello, I'm Brian.
- 1:07Welcome to Owen. One more thing.
- 1:08Hey, I'm Rob, what is new with you buddy?
- 1:11It's all great. Things are great over here.
- 1:14You know I always love a sunny day.
- 1:15Well, who doesn't puts a smile on my face?
- 1:18Did you know that a little time in the sun is good for you?
- 1:21I think I've heard that. Yeah, yeah, we get our vitamin D
- 1:24from the sun and our bodies. Well, we need vitamin D, of
- 1:27course, right? Otherwise we might get.
- 1:28Rickets. What are What are rickets?
- 1:30Nobody wants that. Yeah, I'm not going to.
- 1:32I, I don't really know. So I'm.
- 1:35Moving up, but they're bad. Right.
- 1:37But you do have to have your son in a moderation.
- 1:39Yeah, not like when we were teenagers and laying out in the
- 1:42sun for hours and baby oil, but I was a bronze beauty.
- 1:46Did did your baby oil when you? Were yes, uh huh.
- 1:49But sadly, I did, yeah. You see, I never did.
- 1:51The girls always did. They what are you saying?
- 1:53Well, don't think. The girls went full.
- 1:55The girls always went full like getting the sign and use the the
- 1:58little metal thing. Oh yeah, I was very tan.
- 2:00Baby oil on top of it and I just as nuts.
- 2:03You know, and today my, my kids say that I have this olive
- 2:06colored skin. You know, it's, I'm always, I
- 2:08can tan really easy. I think it's because when I was
- 2:11a teenager, I was always in the sun.
- 2:12Makes sense you're going with olive is the color you're going
- 2:14with. Yeah, olive is that.
- 2:16That's not old, It's just olive. It's a faded olive, but yes,
- 2:20sure. Yeah, he's I.
- 2:23Speaking of son, I was in Florida this past week for us on
- 2:25some work stuff. You were tell.
- 2:27Us about it. Yeah, it was horrible.
- 2:29What? It was horrible.
- 2:32Here's the deal. So in my mind, so I'm all
- 2:34excited, excited. I'm 1 of this work thing and
- 2:36learning work stuff and we're going to Orlando.
- 2:39And what do you think when you hear Orlando?
- 2:41I think theme. Parks.
- 2:42Disney Universal, Right? Yeah.
- 2:45I, I didn't get to go to theme parks.
- 2:46I had to go sit and work conferences for three days.
- 2:48Ohh listening to people sad. Did you hear the violins
- 2:50playing? My heart bleeds for you.
- 2:52Horrible. It was 95°, it was hot.
- 2:55It was lectures for 9 hours straight.
- 2:58Oh it was horrible. And then we then we get on the
- 3:01plane to come home and the plane was delayed and got rerouted.
- 3:04And I, I did call you when you're at the airport.
- 3:06You didn't sound very I. Was I was crabby?
- 3:08It was it was a long 3 days and we just found out our plane was
- 3:11delayed an hour when you called. So that had a lot to do with it.
- 3:14But it's so sad to go to Orlando, not go to any theme
- 3:16park. Oh, I was sad, but.
- 3:17Anyway, we'll have to plan that. We will.
- 3:19We will. What is the best day to get a
- 3:21tent on the beach? I don't know what is it.
- 3:22Well, Sunday, of course. Of course.
- 3:26Yes. You know, yeah, that's those
- 3:29memes that are on Facebook, The, the puns and those things.
- 3:33I, I don't know about you, but I think they, they are so funny.
- 3:35They make me laugh all the time. Oh, every time.
- 3:37It's probably my middle school sense of humor.
- 3:39But maturity doesn't come naturally.
- 3:41It does take time to hone that skill.
- 3:42True. Yeah, very true.
- 3:43Yeah. Some of my recent favourites are
- 3:45the adult version of head and shoulders, Knees and toes is
- 3:49wall. That class is keys and phone.
- 3:51Keys and phone that's. Very true and.
- 3:55Then just when you think food cannot can't call you on the
- 3:58phone, boom, onion rings. That's my favorite.
- 4:05Or like finally my winter fat is gone.
- 4:06Now I have spring rolls. Spring rolls.
- 4:08Spring rolls, right? Mm.
- 4:09Hmm. Yeah, I was watching a show
- 4:11called Ten Ways to Avoid Shark Attacks and surprisingly, Stay
- 4:14Out of the Water didn't make the list.
- 4:17What? That's how I avoid shark
- 4:20attacks. Lol oh that's funny.
- 4:24So you know, these are all forms of dad jokes.
- 4:26Dad jokes I love a good dad. Joke I love a good dad joke I.
- 4:29Don't know why I'd laugh all the time.
- 4:30It's maybe because we're dads or.
- 4:32Maybe. Or is it that they're actually
- 4:35are funny? I think they're hilarious.
- 4:37I do too. Yeah.
- 4:39So you know that topic we had the last week?
- 4:42Yeah, that you Are you a liar? Yeah, that's yeah it.
- 4:45Was a little difficult to get through it.
- 4:46Was tough, It was tough. You know, it's not that we are
- 4:48we're liars, and it wasn't Confessions of a Middle-aged
- 4:51Man, right? But a lot of reading and facts.
- 4:53Yeah. So this time we thought, you
- 4:55know, we thought, let's try to lighten it up the mood a little
- 4:58bit here and let's tell some dad jokes.
- 5:00Right. Who doesn't like dad jokes?
- 5:01I love them and. With Father's Day right around
- 5:02the corner, we thought it'd be nice to give our fathers a
- 5:04little shout out. OK, that's great.
- 5:06Yeah. So what was your dad like
- 5:08growing up? So I we talked about this in a
- 5:11previous podcast, but dad, dad was my buddy.
- 5:13So I was an only child growing up, so and spend a lot of time
- 5:16either watching TV, playing video games or hanging out with
- 5:18dad in the garage. Yeah.
- 5:20So I'd watch Dad when he'd go out and fix cars or, you know,
- 5:23build things, whatever. And truly, that's where I
- 5:25learned how to swear. Good.
- 5:28There was a lot of that going on out there.
- 5:30I'd like to hear more of it. Please.
- 5:31Yeah, Yeah, Right. And growing up, my dad was a
- 5:34smoker. So back in the 70s, you know,
- 5:36smoking was still like doctor, yeah, like encouraging smoking.
- 5:39It was, it was healthy for you back, you know, Right.
- 5:42Of course it was. No, of course it was.
- 5:43And so he would always smoke. But my mom hated the fact that
- 5:46he smoked. So he'd be out there, you know,
- 5:47gotta have his heater. And soon, as soon as that door
- 5:49would open. I've never seen a cigarette go
- 5:50flying faster in my life. Really.
- 5:53I don't know if she ever saw him smoke.
- 5:54I mean, you could smell it, but I don't know if she ever saw him
- 5:56smoke. That's crazy.
- 5:57Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:58Well, my dad was really a a quiet guy, OK?
- 6:00You know, he was the matriarch of the family and he worked all
- 6:04the time. But he was a a cook.
- 6:06Mm Hmm. You know that.
- 6:07So I think that's where I've learned my love of cooking.
- 6:09That makes sense is from my dad. Yeah.
- 6:12And so he did always leave early, come home late and, you
- 6:16know, did not have a lot of interaction.
- 6:19And that other than he was always there.
- 6:22You know he was there supporting you, but he was the quiet guy in
- 6:26the background. Yeah, okay, makes sense.
- 6:28So this topic of dad jokes, you know, Rob, where did that come
- 6:31from? Well, let me give you a little
- 6:33definition first. A dad joke is a joke, obviously
- 6:37typically a pun, often presented as a one liner or a question and
- 6:41answer. Generally, inoffensive dad jokes
- 6:43are told with sincere, humorous intent or to intentionally
- 6:46provoke a negative groaning reaction to their overly
- 6:50simplistic humor. I love getting groans, right?
- 6:53That's my goal. That's your goal?
- 6:55OK I I I see a lot in your future today dad jokes called
- 7:00dad jokes because they are stereo stereotypically thought
- 7:03to be jokes a father or someone like a father would tell to a
- 7:05child. OK, that makes sense.
- 7:07It seems like dad jokes have been around a long time though.
- 7:09Yeah, well, the term dad joke have decoded as early as 1987 in
- 7:13a Pennsylvania newspaper, which noted dad jokes as making kids
- 7:17and wives grown, and then they've been doing so ever
- 7:20since. It's a word play tradition
- 7:21passed down from generation to generation.
- 7:23Yeah, it doesn't seem like it was that long ago.
- 7:25Right it, yeah. Yeah, 1987.
- 7:27That's that's when I got married.
- 7:28Oh, and and that doesn't seem like a long ago either, does it?
- 7:31No, but it is. It is.
- 7:33That's it's like it's like 37 years, dude.
- 7:35But you know, I I really only think dads think they're clever
- 7:39and funny. Well, duh.
- 7:41Right, Right. Did you know what my best Cliff
- 7:45Clavin? The term dad jokes also received
- 7:48mentions in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother in 2008.
- 7:50And to top it off, in September of 2019, Merriam Webster added
- 7:54the phrase dad joke to the dictionary.
- 7:55So it's a legitimate word and phrase.
- 7:57So it really is part of pop culture is awesome.
- 8:00That's awesome, yeah. So dad jokes was off, which
- 8:02often use puns for comedic effect.
- 8:04Are a genre that transcends cultural boundaries and time.
- 8:08They don't require any specific knowledge or awareness of
- 8:10current events to be understood and appreciated, which is
- 8:12probably why I like them. It's.
- 8:14Definitely. That helps.
- 8:15This timeless quality sets them apart from other forms of
- 8:18comedy, such as stand up, which constantly need to adapt to stay
- 8:21relevant. Dad jokes offer a reprieve from
- 8:24the negativity and complexities of the world.
- 8:26They're simple, harmless, don't require much thought or effort
- 8:28to understand. This makes them particularly
- 8:30appealing in today's world, where people are often
- 8:33overwhelmed by the constant barrage of negative news and
- 8:35information. And ain't.
- 8:36That the truth. That's true, yes.
- 8:38Have you seen those dad joke laugh challenges on YouTube?
- 8:41I have, yes. Yeah, so they those are pretty
- 8:43funny, especially when they're really trying not to laugh and
- 8:47you can just see it in them that they're just cracking up.
- 8:49Yeah, some of those jokes they come up with though, in my
- 8:52opinion, are. Hilarious, yes.
- 8:55Maybe we should try it. We should.
- 8:56I think we should. But before we do that, we should
- 9:00give a little shot love to our sponsor, Spring Green Lawn Care.
- 9:03Yeah, we should. We play their ad every time
- 9:05we're every podcast, but we don't really shout out, give
- 9:08them a shout out. So here it is.
- 9:09So if you, if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be doing this.
- 9:12So that's right. Thanks spring green.
- 9:13Thanks, Spring Green. Hey, this is Rob.
- 9:20I wanted to take a moment to talk about Spring and Green.
- 9:23I've been using them since 2007. They provide fertilizer, weed
- 9:26control, lawn insect control, and core aeration services for
- 9:29my lawn. They also spray for mosquitoes,
- 9:31which is huge in Minnesota and new later this year.

- 9:37They're a locally owned and operated company.
- 9:39Super easy to get a hold of and work with.
- 9:41They'll give you the intention and service that you deserve.

- 9:52website or shoot them a message with any questions.
- 9:55That's spring. dashgreen.com, springdashgreen.com.
- 10:08Well then, let's tell a few dads.
- 10:10Let's. Hey Rob, what are your dogs
- 10:13names? Calvin and Klein.
- 10:15Isn't that a brand of underwear? Well, exactly.
- 10:16They're boxers. OK.
- 10:21All right. Sort of lame, but yet funny.
- 10:23Yes, they're all funny. So I got one for you.
- 10:24OK, I've written a book on how how to fall down the stairs.
- 10:28It's a step by step guide. I know, right?
- 10:31OK, Now are we playing that game?
- 10:33We can't laugh because I think. Oh, you have to laugh.
- 10:35You gotta laugh. You gotta laugh.
- 10:36Yeah. I, I, I'm, I'm trying to hold
- 10:38off on the on the rim shot for the ones that are truly worthy
- 10:41of a rim shot. OK, so that you're the judge of
- 10:44what's worthy of a rim? Shot I do have control over the
- 10:46board, but that's true, but I I think you can give me a you give
- 10:49me some sort of signal I think if well.
- 10:51When you see me wheezing from, there's my laugh.
- 10:54When there's tears coming down your eyes.
- 10:55Tears coming down my eyes all. Right here we go. 5 ants rented
- 10:59an apartment from another 5 ants.
- 11:01No, no, they're 10 ants. 10 ants. 10 ants. 10 ants.
- 11:05What's the best present you can ever give I.
- 11:07Don't know. A broken drum.
- 11:08Nobody can beat that. Yeah, I got their rim shot.
- 11:12That deserves a rim shot. Oh, funny.
- 11:16All right. David Hasselhoff has started
- 11:18referring himself as the Hoff. It's less of a hassle.
- 11:24All right, you caught me off guard.
- 11:25All right, that's good. My cell phone accidentally took
- 11:28a 10 minute video of my shoes yesterday.
- 11:30It was some pretty good footage. No, no, it's more of a girl
- 11:35that'll laugh. You know, I just realized that
- 11:38the word 7 has even in it. Yeah, that's odd.
- 11:44All right, you caught me off guard on that one.
- 11:47I had a date last night. You did.
- 11:48It was really exciting. Yeah.
- 11:50Tonight I'm going to try a fig. I I like that one.
- 11:58Yeah, I've just been promoted. Yeah, I'm running all the old
- 12:01McDonald's farms. I'll be the C i.e.
- 12:06I/O. Nice.
- 12:07Nice. OK.
- 12:08I got fired from the bank today. You did.
- 12:11A woman asked me to check her balance, so I pushed her.
- 12:15That's pretty good. This is.
- 12:16Probably more of a visual, but can you name a country without
- 12:19the letter R in it? No, no.
- 12:22Way. Norway, Norway.
- 12:26Norway. Lame.
- 12:29I know that one, that that one is lame.
- 12:31That was a stretch because if I thought hard enough I could come
- 12:33up with one. Probably could.
- 12:35OK, anyway, what's the opposite of Antarctica?
- 12:40I don't know. Uncle Arctica.
- 12:45Here's me trying to think of continents.
- 12:47Their dad jokes. Yeah, I remember.
- 12:49I know. A man showed up for a dual armed
- 12:51only with pencil and paper. He then proceeded to draw his
- 12:54weapon. All right, why is why is dark
- 13:00spelled with AK and not ACI? Don't know 'cause you can't see
- 13:04in the dark. Get.
- 13:06It I can't see. The dark DARK.
- 13:09That's that's a groan, not a laugh.
- 13:11Thank you. I like groans.
- 13:12All right, all right. Last one for now already.
- 13:14My grandma always used to say an apple a day keeps a doctor away.
- 13:17I don't know if that's true or just one of Granny's myths.
- 13:22I get it. Granny Smith.
- 13:23I get it. Granny Smith.
- 13:24Yeah. That's pretty good.
- 13:25Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:26Did you know that many different cultures recognize a dad joke?
- 13:30Yeah, Yeah, they do. They do.
- 13:32The Japanese have a similar concept.
- 13:34I'm gonna butcher all these words.
- 13:36Ovali, Guagu. That that sounds good.
- 13:38That's pretty close, but should be translated to old men gags or
- 13:41middle-aged men's gags. All right, old men gags, I
- 13:44called. Old men gags.
- 13:46The Danish culture recognizes uncle humor or uncle humor.
- 13:50I like that. It's Uncle ONKEL, but it's close
- 13:52enough to Uncle I can say that one or more far vintage hedger.
- 13:57I like that one. I feel like it's a like a shell
- 13:59from IKEA or or or. Those are called grandfather
- 14:03jokes. It seems like dad jokes have
- 14:04universal appeal, at least to dads.
- 14:06Sure, we've all heard the old saying laughter is the best of
- 14:09medicine, right? Well, the release of serotonin,
- 14:12A neurotransmitter and hormone, is triggered by laughter, and a
- 14:16higher serotonin levels can help you make you feel good.
- 14:19But that's not the only benefit laughter has in your health.
- 14:22Also, a hearty laugh not only relaxes your body and it can
- 14:25relieve stress up to 45 minutes and boost your immune system by
- 14:29decreasing stress hormones and increasing infection fighting
- 14:32antibodies. Well, that's awesome.
- 14:34Yeah, laughter improves the function of blood vessels and
- 14:37increases blood flow, which can help protect you against heart
- 14:40attacks and other cardiovascular problem.
- 14:43And my favorite laughter burns calories.
- 14:45See. That's why, right?
- 14:46It's why I don't exercise. You don't need to is because.
- 14:48I'm laughing all the time. All day and you're burning
- 14:52calories. In my negativity and pessimistic
- 14:55style attitude, no, I'm kidding. No laughter lightens the mood.
- 15:00Nothing diffuses anger or conflict faster than a shared
- 15:03laugh. And laughter may even help you
- 15:05live longer. A study in Norway Norway No Way
- 15:09No Way found that people with a strong sense of humor outlive
- 15:12those who don't laugh as much. So we're going to live forever.
- 15:15Forever. Well, yeah.
- 15:18Longer than we're going to live long, long way past average age.
- 15:23Longer than we, probably. Should OK, so let's see if we
- 15:26can get each other laughing again.
- 15:28Here we go. So I just picked up a bottle of
- 15:30that new Fred Flown aftershave. Yeah, yeah, it's strong stuff.
- 15:33You only need to use a tiny bit. A little dab will do you.
- 15:39My wife. Harper on that one is you need
- 15:41to know who the Flintstones are. So if you're of a certain age
- 15:43and audience have may have no clue that joke pertains to like,
- 15:45that's stupid. It's not stupid to us because.
- 15:48We grew up on the Flintstones. And the Jetsons.
- 15:51And the Jetsons. My wife found out I was cheating
- 15:54on her. Oh, after she found all the
- 15:56letters I was hiding she got so mad.
- 15:58She'll never play Scrabble with me again.
- 16:00Sounds sounds about right. Someone asked me to name 2
- 16:05structures that hold water. I was like, well damn.
- 16:12That deserves a rib. Shot All right, there you go.
- 16:17I was going to cook alligator for dinner, but then I realized
- 16:20I only had a crock pot. Nice.
- 16:25Thank you. What?
- 16:26Do you call an alien that gets uncomfortably close to you?
- 16:29About what? A space invader.
- 16:32That joke was out of this world. Yes, it was.
- 16:35That was the best part. That was better.
- 16:37The better. Yeah, My doctor told me my
- 16:41prostate was good. I was deeply touched.
- 16:44All right, that's good, that's good.
- 16:48All right. I'm not saying I'm attractive,
- 16:50but when I take my clothes off in the bathroom, I turn the
- 16:52shower on. Oh yeah, you do.
- 16:58I spent a lot of time and money and and effort childproofing my
- 17:02house. OK Damn, the kids still get in.
- 17:07That are hard you try they keep showing up for dinner coming
- 17:11back make it stop. We we love our kids.
- 17:14We do so you know I I just recently had to travel to
- 17:18Florida. We just had this conversation he
- 17:20did a couple seconds ago. Google kept calling me surely
- 17:23all day yesterday and I was getting very annoyed.
- 17:25And then I finally realized I left my phone in airplane mode.
- 17:27OK, again, again. You need to, you need to have
- 17:33reference of of the movie airplane.
- 17:35That that still makes much more sense.
- 17:36It does, yeah. What's the least spoken language
- 17:39in the world? I don't know.
- 17:41Sign language. Get it?
- 17:46And true and true. Did you know I played guitar?
- 17:52I didn't, yeah. After playing guitar for years,
- 17:53I thought I could learn to play the piano, but it's not an easy
- 17:56instrument to pick up. I could see it.
- 17:59Hanging around your neck, right? But they do make those
- 18:03synthesizer pianos that do hang around your neck.
- 18:06You can play it. Like a piano, Yeah, still heavy.
- 18:08And and the accordion. And the accordion.
- 18:11Yes, could totally do the accordion.
- 18:13Can you though? No, I have one.
- 18:15Do you? Yeah, my dad played.
- 18:17I think I remember that. Yeah, he played all the time,
- 18:19and he'd play when we were kids. Yeah, maybe that's what I
- 18:22remember a lot about. He'd play the accordion and we'd
- 18:24all dance around kitchens. You'd need to bring the
- 18:26accordion to a podcast recording.
- 18:28But I don't know how to play it. So.
- 18:30It was. It is on my bucket list someday
- 18:33to learn how to play the accordion OK in honor of my dad.
- 18:36Sure, and it's it's pretty fun music if you're German.
- 18:41If you're German and if if you watch, watch a lot of Lawrence
- 18:43Welk growing up. Yes, I did Shocker Saturday
- 18:49night. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:52So what do you call a person who never farts in public?
- 18:55I don't know. Private tutor.
- 19:01That's that's that's that's. That's thank you.
- 19:03Thank you. That's worthy, alright.
- 19:05Stephen King has a son named. Joe, he does.
- 19:08Yeah, I'm not joking, but he is. Joking, joking.
- 19:13Stephen King? No.
- 19:14No. It's not.
- 19:15Yeah, explain them. And that that is good if you
- 19:18have to explain. It right, yeah, but we we're
- 19:20getting them. Yeah, we, yeah, that's all that
- 19:22matters. I told my wife.
- 19:23She drew her eyebrows, eyebrows on too high.
- 19:26She seems surprised. I can't see you telling your
- 19:32wife that. She doesn't draw on her
- 19:35eyebrows. But I thought it was funny.
- 19:37So when I was reading these jokes to myself, I'm laughing.
- 19:40Yeah. Oh, God, myself.
- 19:41So I I'm like, if I can make myself laugh, yeah.
- 19:45It's worth it. My daughter was doing history
- 19:47homework the other day and asked me what I knew about Galileo.
- 19:51I said he was a poor boy from a poor family.
- 19:54Another reference. I love it.
- 19:57Does anybody know the reference? Well, I do.
- 19:59I know you do. Yeah.
- 20:00I hope the listeners. Everybody knows, Queen.
- 20:02Come on. Come on, I do not.
- 20:04I know Yesterday my GPS told me to turn around.
- 20:08After that I couldn't see anything.
- 20:13I get it, I get it. My daughter, again, she was very
- 20:17busy the other day. She asked me, Dad, today I
- 20:19watched somebody do 50 push ups. Do you think you could do that?
- 20:22I said of course, but I don't want to brag.
- 20:24I mean, I could probably watch somebody do 100 push ups.
- 20:30I love it. What do you call an alligator in
- 20:34a vest? I don't know.
- 20:35An investigator? That's a groan.
- 20:39That's a groan. That's a groan.
- 20:40Yeah, we need a groan. Sound bite.
- 20:43I have the lot lot somewhere. If I if I looked hard enough.
- 20:46Oh, here we go. I.
- 20:51Totally needed that. Totally need that.
- 20:53A cop stopped me and asked do you know why I stopped you?
- 20:56I looked back at my trailer full of donkeys and said because I'm
- 20:58hauling ass. I have another one I saw today
- 21:03too though. Another cop stopped me today by
- 21:05the way. He did, yeah.
- 21:07He asked me to get out of the car and I said why?
- 21:09Because you want to know how tall I am?
- 21:11Sure as shit that's why. No, I'm kidding.
- 21:16First I thought you, you. I'm fallible.
- 21:17You had me there for a minute, right?
- 21:20Well, it's the way you said it. It's like, is he pulling my leg?
- 21:23I didn't know. I used to play piano by ear, but
- 21:26now I use my hands, it's much easier.
- 21:29OK, that's a that's a semicron, not a full eye girl.
- 21:32That's how I grow. Actually.
- 21:34I gave my wife a glue stick instead of her lipstick.
- 21:36Yeah, she's still not talking to.
- 21:41Me, you know, I told my wife to embrace her mistakes, so she
- 21:44hugged me. Have you never heard that when
- 21:51we thought? I have not, but that that's
- 21:52quite true for both of us it. Is.
- 21:54I love that one. Yeah.
- 21:56So whether you thought those jokes are funny or not, well, I
- 21:59did. I did.
- 21:59There's real stats behind laughter.
- 22:01OK? Laughter is a great form of
- 22:03stress relief, and that's no joke.
- 22:06It is no joke. So how about some short term
- 22:08benefits? OK.
- 22:09A good laugh offers several immediate physical and mental
- 22:11advantages. Yeah, it What are they?
- 22:13It boosts organ function, so laughter increases oxygen and
- 22:16intake, stimulating the heart, lungs and muscles.
- 22:19It also prompts the release of endorphins in the brain.
- 22:21We gotta do that more, right? Laugh.
- 22:23Yeah, I know. Manages stress response.
- 22:26A hearty laugh activates and then reduces the body stress
- 22:29response, leading to fluctuations and eventual
- 22:31decreases in heart rate and blood pressure, resulting in a
- 22:34state of relaxation. So if I laughed more, I could
- 22:37get off my blood pressure medicine.
- 22:39That is the goal, right I. Don't know if it works that way,
- 22:41but I want to. Believe it, Let's try.
- 22:43Let's try. It also eases tension, laughter,
- 22:46can improve circulation and relaxed muscles, which can
- 22:48alleviate some of the physical signs of stress.
- 22:51And there are lasting effects too, beyond the immediate
- 22:55laughter contributes to long term well-being, like
- 22:57strengthens immunity. Negative thoughts can trigger
- 23:00chemical reactions that increase stress and lower immunity.
- 23:04Conversely, positive thoughts stimulated by laughter can
- 23:07release neuropeptides that Combat Stress and potentially
- 23:12more severe conditions. I got you.
- 23:15I feel what you're putting down. It also reduces pain.
- 23:18Laughter may encourage the body to produce its own natural pain
- 23:22relievers. Interesting.
- 23:25I'm going to laugh more, right? It also in enhances well-being
- 23:30laughter can improve resilience in challenging situations and
- 23:33foster connections with others. Elevates mood.
- 23:37Laughter can alleviate stress, depression and anxiety,
- 23:41potentially increasing happiness and self esteem potentially
- 23:44excuse me, particularly for individuals experiencing chronic
- 23:49illness. Maybe that's why I prefer to
- 23:51watch like comedies and sitcoms as opposed to dramas.
- 23:53I still like a good drama once in a while but I I would much
- 23:55rather sit down and watch it. Half hour sitcom.
- 23:57I like 1/2 hour sitcom a comedy, but what I don't like and it
- 24:03drives me insane are laugh tracks.
- 24:08I want the comedy. To be real.
- 24:11And I don't want to hear the laugh track to tell me I'm
- 24:15supposed to laugh at that time. Yeah, laugh tracks were big in
- 24:18like 60s TV. Oh, they're big now, too.
- 24:21Well yeah, but I then I'll see you watch the shows like like
- 24:25The Office and Modern Family, which shows I both love by the
- 24:28way, I'm not ripping on them, but those that have 0 audience
- 24:31or laugh track whatsoever, sometimes that gets a little
- 24:34annoying too. But it it has to rely more on
- 24:39the actual content, yes, versus the laugh track queuing the
- 24:42audience force. Canned laugh.
- 24:44Yeah, yeah. That's what I don't.
- 24:45Like, yeah, yeah, I get that. But I like a good like a live
- 24:48audience like Big Bang Theory and friends like I, I like.
- 24:50That, Yeah, that's the thing. I do like those shows, yeah.
- 24:53And I have ignored the laugh track and those, Yeah.
- 24:56But if I get into another show that I'm not as vested in, and
- 25:01then there's the laugh track, it's all I can hear and I'm
- 25:03like, I hate this. Never tell you I went to a
- 25:06sitcom taping in Hollywood. No, never told you that.
- 25:10No, Rob, how long have we been friends?
- 25:13Quite a quite a long time. I know you've been on
- 25:15television. We'll talk about that another
- 25:16time. I've been on television, yes,
- 25:17but I've been on television twice.
- 25:20National TV. Twice.
- 25:21We're going to talk about that as well.
- 25:23Yes, another time. Future podcast I was on, I was
- 25:26on, I was in the audience for, you remember a little sitcom
- 25:28called Just Shoot Me Yes, David Spade and Wendy Malik and a
- 25:32great cast, great, great little sitcom.
- 25:34Went to a taping. It was one of one of the season
- 25:36finales and at the end of the show I I can't remember the
- 25:39actual character's name, but Wendy and David Spade.
- 25:44Yeah, I can't remember the. Kissed at the end and there was
- 25:46like, like, there's a lot of sexual tension, like that whole
- 25:48season. Then at the end, they kissed and
- 25:50in the audience, like, we like, hooted and hollered and cheered
- 25:53for like 2 minutes straight. And then and then like the kind
- 25:56of directors kind of waited and then they said, OK, we're gonna
- 25:58do it again, but why don't you guys stay quiet?
- 26:00So they did another take and we just kind of sat there and
- 26:02watched them. And then it was funny to watch
- 26:03the final episode as it aired. There was 0 hooted, hooting and
- 26:08hollering at all whatsoever. Really.
- 26:10Yeah. So they completely edited that
- 26:12out, which I thought was very interesting because it's kind of
- 26:15a big moment to end the season on.
- 26:17So I'm surprised they didn't do like a quick oh.
- 26:19Yeah, they would have done something.
- 26:20They did nothing. It's just a complete silence.
- 26:21That's odd. But it's a very, very
- 26:23interesting process. We were there for half hour
- 26:25sitcom. We were there well over six
- 26:27hours. No.
- 26:28Yeah, I ran into. In and out of going to the
- 26:32bathroom get food I. Mean you you mean they encourage
- 26:35you not to leave, But if you have to go to the bathroom, yes,
- 26:37in in between takes, you can get up and go out and use the
- 26:39bathroom and come back. But the way the stage is set up,
- 26:40so it's you know, you have the three main sets and they have a
- 26:43couple side sets where they do other things.
- 26:44They had a high school set and they had not Sarah Michelle
- 26:49Gellar, who's the other back in the 90s, that three named girl.
- 26:54Oh, John, a good blank. Anyway, as we're walking in
- 26:57Sarah Jessica Park. No, no, no, no, not her.
- 27:00I'll think of it after we're done recording this.
- 27:01But as we're walking in, she walks out in costume.
- 27:04Like we're walking in the the studio audience and we
- 27:06apparently walk past the dressing rooms and she walks out
- 27:08in this cheerleader outfit and literally bumped into me.
- 27:10And I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.
- 27:12And at the time I'm like, I just somebody bumped into me.
- 27:14And as we go sit down, I'm like, Oh my God, that's blah, blah,
- 27:17blah. I'm like, I ran into a celebrity
- 27:19and I had no idea. Wow.
- 27:21Yeah, it's fun. It's fun though.
- 27:23Anyway, Movie 9. Should tell a few more dad jokes
- 27:25I. Think we should?
- 27:26I think we should. Math is hard.
- 27:27Yeah, 15 + 15 is 30, but 16 + 16 is 32 TOO.
- 27:34Get it? No, it's TWO.
- 27:35Yeah, groan. That's a groan.
- 27:38That's a groan. I asked my dog what's 2 - 2?
- 27:42He said nothing. And true, I didn't think wearing
- 27:49orthopedic shoes would work, but I stand corrected.
- 27:55We had the shoe conversation. I like that one.
- 27:59I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon.
- 28:02I'll let you know I was. Going to say let's me first,
- 28:06suck me in. Oh that's funny.
- 28:10I'm nervous about signing up for my company's 4O1K.
- 28:13I've never run that far before. I used to hate facial hair other
- 28:21than it grew. On me, that's a grown.
- 28:25I just finished writing a book on Penguins.
- 28:27Yeah, it probably wouldn't have been a lot easier to write on
- 28:29paper. What do mermaids wash their fins
- 28:35with? I don't know, Tide.
- 28:39That's a grown Baldwin is a cool name.
- 28:43It's the opposite of hair loss. Baldwin hair loss.
- 28:47That's funny, what did the fried rice say to the shrimp?
- 28:51I don't know. Don't walk away from me.
- 28:56That's funny. 3 weeks ago I sent my hearing aids in for repair.
- 28:59Yeah, I haven't heard nothing since.
- 29:02It's true, that's true. I don't have hearing aids yet,
- 29:05but. I should have them.
- 29:07It's in my future. Did you hear Steve Harvey and
- 29:10his wife got into a fight? It was a real family feud.
- 29:14That's funny. Don't throw sodium chloride at
- 29:18people. That's assault.
- 29:21So my wife speaking assault. Wife said please stop eating so
- 29:25much salt. I said why?
- 29:26Yeah, She said too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure,
- 29:29heart attacks and strokes. I'm like, so you're saying too
- 29:32much sodium is assault with a deadly weapon?
- 29:36Yeah. She pours more salt in my food.
- 29:37Yeah, she's trying to get rid of you.
- 29:39Yes. Is that it?
- 29:41Now that's the whole. That's all I got.
- 29:44What kind of car does an egg drive?
- 29:46I don't know. A yolk's wagon.
- 29:48That's a groan. I bought a pen that can write
- 29:52underwater. OK, they can write other words
- 29:54as well. What kind of shoes does the
- 30:00Gopher wear? I don't know.
- 30:01Woodchucks get it? Get it.
- 30:06Took me a while to get that one I wrote.
- 30:07It I get it, I get it. Respect people who wear glasses.
- 30:11They paid money to see you. That's right.
- 30:14That's true. Did you know the man that
- 30:17invented the umbrella was going to call it umbrella?
- 30:20No, but he hesitated. He's somewhat related to me
- 30:25because I say all the time I. Think he's your uncle?
- 30:29He's got to be. I thought Bob was your uncle.
- 30:31That's your uncle. Yes, Bob is my uncle.
- 30:36I was so confused last night as my printer started playing
- 30:38music. Turns out the paper was just
- 30:40jamming. Tech joke right?
- 30:45Did you hear that Mister Cups wife left him?
- 30:49Did not. Now he's a solo cup.
- 30:53That's good. All right.
- 30:54This is my last one. I have so many jokes about
- 30:57unemployed people, but none of them work.
- 31:02OK, I have two more. Two more.
- 31:03Okay, hit me. Well, what song did the Pink
- 31:05Panthers sing when he stepped on an Ant?
- 31:08Did Ant? Did Ant dead Ant dead Ant?
- 31:10Unfortunately, I've heard that one.
- 31:14OK, this is my last joke. OK, I didn't believe my wife
- 31:17when she said she'd leave me if I didn't stop singing the
- 31:19Monkeys, but then I saw her face.
- 31:23And I'm, I'm a believer, all right?
- 31:25That's, that's enough. That's enough.

- 31:37Hey, one more thing. As we celebrate Father's It's
- 31:39Father's Day, remember that there is more to the dad joke
- 31:42than the eye rolls and the groans.
- 31:44Dad jokes are funny. Yes, they are.
- 31:46Bye everyone. Bye my fellow jokesters.
- 31:48Sometimes I tell myself a joke and we both laugh.
