The Samson enigma
Prof. Jeffery Woolf, a professor in the Talmud department in Bar Ilan University, says that rabbis have been conflicted over Samson’s character in the Bible. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that Samson illustrated a strong Jew, which some commentaries saw as necessary, but his overly lusty and brutish behavior was something to be rejected. He said the image of Samson was also reflected by Jews over the millennia who defended themselves and has been embraced by Zionist.
