Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: I thought it would be fun to take one of these audio journal episodes and talk about three books that I'm reading right now that I really, really enjoy.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to recommend these three books to you to grow your heart and your mind and your business.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: So the first book is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And I was turned on to this by the contemporary writer, Ryan Holliday, who's a very successful New York Times bestselling author.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: He's written books like Ego is the Enemy, The Obstacle is the Way, The Daily Stoic, Perennial Bestseller, and a few others.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And he also has a great podcast called The Daily Stoic.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And he talks a lot about Stoicism, of course.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: That's in a lot of his books.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And Marcus Aurelius was the Emperor of Rome in the second century AD for a number of years, and he was what you would consider Stoic.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Now I'm not going to go into Stoicism and all that stuff, but Meditations is really just his journal.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: He never wrote it intending for it to be published.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: This is just thoughts on life, thoughts on um philosophy, thoughts on relationships, thoughts on leadership, basically everything under the sun.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: This is the journal that he kept while he traveled and just as he experienced life.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And it's super, super fascinating just to be able to read the inner private thoughts of someone who was in such a high important position of leadership.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: It's really, really great, and I encourage you to check it out.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Book number two is Giftology by John Rulin.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: This is a newer book published a few years ago.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And John Rulin has a business that he has a business where he helps leaders and other businesses figure out great gifts for their clients.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And this is a phenomenal book because it walks you through the process of figuring out how to get good gifts for people.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Now that may seem like something that's you might hear about a book like that and you would go, well, why would I want to read about that?
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: You know, a gift is a gift is a gift.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: But that is absolutely not true.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And when you read giftology, you will come to find out that there's a whole other way of thinking about gifts that is really fun and it's really, really effective.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, to give you one example.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: So I read this book recently, and um I just finished up my first ghostwriting client book uh not too long ago.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And a couple weeks ago I wanted to get a really cool gift for this client.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: So what I did was after I read Giftology, I knew that I wanted to get something that was high quality and that was personalized and that was really meaningful.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So I took the concepts from Giftology and I decided to uh I asked the graphic designer for the book to take the the title artwork, send that to me, and she made a couple of adjustments and she sent that to me, and I had that artwork put on some really high coff uh really high quality coffee mugs.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And the interior of the mugs, uh like the color matched one of the colors of the book title artwork.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: So it was really, really cool.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, I can't tell you what it is because I ghostwrote the book, but just trust me, it was a really cool gift.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And I wouldn't have been able to do that if I hadn't read John Rulin's giftology book and just known about those concepts.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So just get the book.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: It's really, really great.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: I promise, if you follow the principles, that people will love the books that are I'm sorry, people will love the gifts that you get for them.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: The third book is Marketing Made Simple by Donald Miller.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Donald Miller was well known for a long time, writing memoirs and kind of these very like introspective storytelling-based books, and I really love his writing.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I think he's one of the best writers alive today, honestly.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: But over the last few years, he's transitioned more into a business leader, really helping businesses think about their branding and so forth.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And his newest book, called Marketing Made Simple, walks you through a very simple step-by-step process of figuring out what your marketing message is.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And this has been enormously helpful to me as I have thought about how I want to communicate my ghostwriting business and also my my upcoming Daily Writer podcast and all the things that will be surrounding that over the in the coming years.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So, anyway, get those three books.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: You will really, really enjoy them.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: I've benefited hugely from each of these, and I love each one of these.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: So I just wanted to recommend those to you, and hopefully, you will check them out.
