- 1:26Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, this is Black Diamond from the Crew Network
- 1:29Speaker 1: and you're tuned into Basic Black after Dark, the podcast
- 1:32Speaker 1: that meets you right where you are and delivers the
- 1:35Speaker 1: conversations you crave. Tonight. I'm excited to welcome our special guests,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Bobby's stretching and inspiring author and the driving force behind
- 1:46Speaker 1: Just From Me or It's a nonprofitat needed to empower
- 1:52Speaker 1: individuals through self investment and personal development. Bobby, thank you
- 1:57Speaker 1: for joining us. We're eager to get more about your work,
- 2:01Speaker 1: your journey, and the impact of Just for Me. Wellness. Wow,
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's really really nice to have you here. Your book,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I don't even know where to begin. It just it
- 2:23Speaker 1: talks about legacy and talks about family. I want to
- 2:27Speaker 1: discuss legacy and family with you. What inspired you to
- 2:31Speaker 1: write this book? I know it was in honor of
- 2:34Speaker 1: your mother, Bessy Howard Hadden me, what inspired you to
- 2:39Speaker 1: write this book about her?
- 2:42Speaker 2: Well, actually, during the time that this came up, my
- 2:46Speaker 2: mother was living. She's deceased now, but she was living
- 2:52Speaker 2: and when we would visit and talk, she would be
- 2:55Speaker 2: sharing so much about her faith and her her life experiences,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and she said she would just love to be able
- 3:05Speaker 2: to do ministry. She wanted to travel and really evangelize
- 3:12Speaker 2: and talk about the Lord and pray with people, which
- 3:16Speaker 2: she did, but as she got older, she couldn't do it,
- 3:19Speaker 2: or she wasn't a person that knew how to drive,
- 3:22Speaker 2: and she didn't have a high school education. So when
- 3:26Speaker 2: we would be talking about these things, and I told her,
- 3:29Speaker 2: I said, Mama, gonna write a book about you and
- 3:31Speaker 2: it's gonna be called the Book of Bessie, and your
- 3:34Speaker 2: voice is gonna get out there. She says, well, I'm
- 3:36Speaker 2: gonna tell it to you because I know you will
- 3:39Speaker 2: get it out there. So we started just talking and
- 3:43Speaker 2: I would take notes. I would write down key things
- 3:47Speaker 2: that she would tell me about, and some morning she
- 3:50Speaker 2: would call me and early in the morning she said,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I got some fresh bread, I got a word from
- 3:56Speaker 2: the Lord, I got a revelation, and I want to
- 3:59Speaker 2: tell it to you. You and I would write it down.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So as the book was being formulated and birth, it
- 4:08Speaker 2: came from those conversations. Now when she when she passed,
- 4:15Speaker 2: the book hadn't been even really edited any nothing had
- 4:19Speaker 2: been done other than the foundation of it. So when
- 4:23Speaker 2: she passed, I kind of I couldn't. I couldn't really
- 4:28Speaker 2: for the grieving of it, I just didn't do anything.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It was a little heavy to deal with. But thank
- 4:36Speaker 2: god I had a supportive group of people in my
- 4:40Speaker 2: family and in my spiritual family that encouraged me and
- 4:46Speaker 2: helped me. And so with that strength I was able
- 4:52Speaker 2: to go ahead on and be able to actually finish
- 4:58Speaker 2: the first of her book about walking on Go. And
- 5:03Speaker 2: so here we are today and the book is published
- 5:07Speaker 2: and it's nominated for a Distinguished Author Deial Award, which
- 5:12Speaker 2: was su and then it won't and congratulations, thank you
- 5:20Speaker 2: so much.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It was.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So so the inspiration was people supported me saying, you
- 5:29Speaker 2: know you can do this. I'll help you. You can
- 5:32Speaker 2: do this. This is your first book, this is this
- 5:35Speaker 2: is your first book. This is my first book ever,
- 5:40Speaker 2: your first book.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And you came out of the gate winning an award.
- 5:44Speaker 1: So how important is a family legacy and how you
- 5:47Speaker 1: preserve the values and wisdom of your loved ones.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But well, family legacy is everything based on the scripture
- 5:55Speaker 2: of text that tells us that God blesses from generation
- 6:01Speaker 2: to generation. That is a legacy through faith. It's very important.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Just as much as you know, knowing Black history is
- 6:12Speaker 2: important for the next generation. In the next generation, so
- 6:17Speaker 2: is faith. Family. Faith is a legacy of what God
- 6:24Speaker 2: has done in the past that he will do again.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I see that, or I feel as though your mother
- 6:32Speaker 1: is so proud of you finishing the book. It's about her.
- 6:38Speaker 1: You got bragg and rights, Miss Hadley, you have bragging
- 6:40Speaker 1: rights where you're at, you have bragg and rights.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Oh yes, And.
- 6:45Speaker 1: To know that there was an award behind it. What
- 6:49Speaker 1: qualities or values did your mother and body that made
- 6:52Speaker 1: her such a remarkable person in your eyes?
- 6:55Speaker 2: My mama always had openness about helping other people. One
- 7:05Speaker 2: of the things I saw Mama do was take a
- 7:07Speaker 2: little food, a little cloth, turn it into garments, take
- 7:14Speaker 2: a little food, make soup, feed the whole family, no
- 7:17Speaker 2: matter who came by the house, and no matter what
- 7:20Speaker 2: we had to eat. She knew what to add to
- 7:22Speaker 2: that part, to make sure everybody got a ball.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Form to your mother's house was that house.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I've seen her endure some things that I know were
- 7:31Speaker 2: painful for her, but she did it with such a
- 7:33Speaker 2: grace that she was able to smile and then cry
- 7:36Speaker 2: in the background, come right on back out, smile.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So how do you think honoring her legacy through this
- 7:43Speaker 1: book will impact future generations of your family or even
- 7:47Speaker 1: your readers.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I think the way that this book will impact my
- 7:52Speaker 2: personal family is because we still have a generation who
- 7:57Speaker 2: can say that they were witnesses of the wisdom and
- 8:03Speaker 2: the legacy of faith that she walks. So we still
- 8:07Speaker 2: have that generation, but for the generation to come, this
- 8:13Speaker 2: story will make an impact because the Word of God
- 8:17Speaker 2: also teaches us that when we tell the amazing grace
- 8:24Speaker 2: and power of God, it causes the next generation to
- 8:28Speaker 2: have hope in that God. So that's the legacy that
- 8:32Speaker 2: this same power of faith and resiliency will reverberate. It'll
- 8:39Speaker 2: be told, and that's the impact in my personal family.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But for the readers, my mama is going to be
- 8:46Speaker 2: echoing the voices of so many readers. When you get
- 8:50Speaker 2: this book, there is a chapter that will speak to
- 8:53Speaker 2: you and you'll say, you know what, that's my story,
- 8:56Speaker 2: that's me, that was the story I wish I could
- 8:59Speaker 2: have told. Now that I see that it's in print,
- 9:02Speaker 2: is out here, they're going to be empowered to say,
- 9:04Speaker 2: you know what, I found my voice and I'm an
- 9:08Speaker 2: overcomer too.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So how can families preserve the wisdom of their elders.
- 9:14Speaker 1: You know, even as society becomes more fast paced, for instance,
- 9:19Speaker 1: with traditions, storytelling, documentation as tools for legacy building, how
- 9:25Speaker 1: can those families preserve the wisdom of their elders because
- 9:29Speaker 1: you know, sometimes they don't want to hear and the
- 9:31Speaker 1: younger people don't want to hear it because they figure, oh,
- 9:33Speaker 1: that's so old fashioned. But how do you think families
- 9:36Speaker 1: should be able to could preserve the wisdom of their elders.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I really think having this experience through the distinguished author's guilt,
- 9:47Speaker 2: I have learned that documenting writing it doesn't it doesn't
- 9:53Speaker 2: have to per se that the people take on, Well,
- 9:56Speaker 2: I'm going to write a book, but do write, write
- 10:00Speaker 2: it down, put it in writing, keep the pictures, just
- 10:05Speaker 2: tell it now. It may seem as though there's a
- 10:10Speaker 2: generation that doesn't want to hear it. It may seem
- 10:12Speaker 2: that way, but I am a witness that there's a
- 10:17Speaker 2: generation right now that it's hungry to know the identity
- 10:22Speaker 2: of where I came from so that I can get
- 10:25Speaker 2: a perspective on where I am. You know, this generation,
- 10:29Speaker 2: this generation is facing challenges. Not all of them are new,
- 10:35Speaker 2: but they are magnified. Drugs aren't new, games aren't new.
- 10:41Speaker 2: The struggles of race that's not new. Politics isn't new.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It's magnified. So they are young people, although it seems
- 10:51Speaker 2: like they don't want to hear they do. There's a
- 10:55Speaker 2: lot that's happened from generation to generations that's clouded that communication.
- 11:01Speaker 2: It's kind of perverted that communication. But I can tell
- 11:05Speaker 2: you it's a weirdness. We have an amazing generation of
- 11:09Speaker 2: young people who are hungry for that knowledge of what
- 11:16Speaker 2: where did this come from? I do want to know.
- 11:20Speaker 2: In my family, you know, they want to know. And
- 11:24Speaker 2: it's just about that faith.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I want to go to out sidebar Chanette Johnson and
- 11:31Speaker 1: saying good evening, ladies. And from the crew she's saying,
- 11:36Speaker 1: and that's the producer saying that it is powerful. I'm
- 11:40Speaker 1: very very powerful founding sponsors. It's saying amen, and it
- 11:47Speaker 1: is powerful. And also Patrese, Hey, Patrice, she's saying hello,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and she then is saying exactly to what you're saying
- 11:54Speaker 1: about our youth. You know how they are thirsty for
- 11:58Speaker 1: the information, but sometimes you know, it's just so hard
- 12:03Speaker 1: to reach them. And I think that's because they're misunderstood.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You know, I want to I want to dive into
- 12:09Speaker 1: how faith and prayer play a role in overcoming life's trials.
- 12:14Speaker 1: What was the role of in faith, in prayer and
- 12:17Speaker 1: overcoming life's obstacles as highlighted in Bessie's life.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Uh, my mama had told me that, you know, she
- 12:25Speaker 2: went through some racism, not just between different races, but
- 12:29Speaker 2: racism within our race. You know, light skin the dark
- 12:33Speaker 2: skinned thing. And there were other things with poverty. There
- 12:37Speaker 2: was things with the secrets, the things that family push
- 12:43Speaker 2: into the closet and try to shut the door on
- 12:45Speaker 2: that you couldn't do it because everybody knew it, you know,
- 12:49Speaker 2: just wasn't able to talk about it. But my mama
- 12:52Speaker 2: told me about how it was that it was God
- 12:56Speaker 2: himself that caused her to have ears to hear his
- 13:00Speaker 2: because you know, she wasn't just really grow you know,
- 13:03Speaker 2: raised up in the church. But that came a point
- 13:06Speaker 2: when when she heard God letting her know that I'm
- 13:11Speaker 2: your God. I'm not shut up in a church. I'm
- 13:14Speaker 2: your God, and I will help you. You're gonna have
- 13:17Speaker 2: to listen to me though, and he gave her ears
- 13:20Speaker 2: to hear. So faith where whereas it may look like
- 13:24Speaker 2: faith is is locked in a location. God is God
- 13:28Speaker 2: is not locked up in certain denominations. He will reach
- 13:33Speaker 2: you right where you are. So my mama experienced that
- 13:37Speaker 2: personal relationship where God would tell her while she's laying
- 13:40Speaker 2: in her bed to come and meet with me. And
- 13:45Speaker 2: she said that he would tell her two o'clock, three
- 13:47Speaker 2: o'clock in the morning, will you will you listen to me?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Will you will you come so I can talk to you?
- 13:54Speaker 2: And she did. She said, at two o'clock in the morning,
- 13:57Speaker 2: she finds herself getting out of the bed and laying
- 14:00Speaker 2: on the floor next to the bed with her face down.
- 14:04Speaker 2: She said, face down in the rug. And I'm saying,
- 14:07Speaker 2: God hear me, I don't know what to do. I
- 14:10Speaker 2: can't fix this. I'm losing my mind. And right there
- 14:14Speaker 2: on the side of her bed two and three o'clock
- 14:17Speaker 2: in the morning, she is in a place meeting with
- 14:21Speaker 2: the Lord, able to hear him talk to her about
- 14:25Speaker 2: her and then healing started.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And you think that that was one of her specific
- 14:32Speaker 1: challenges that your mother faced in you know, with her
- 14:36Speaker 1: faith that provided her strength during those times.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely. She talked a lot about how when you're
- 14:46Speaker 2: struggling with certain things in life, well everything. There are
- 14:50Speaker 2: times you cannot express what you're dealing with. Sometimes even
- 14:55Speaker 2: when you go to talk to somebody, they may not
- 14:58Speaker 2: get where you're coming from. That little breakdown, right, that
- 15:01Speaker 2: will cause you to we'll just keep it to yourself.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And so being able to talk to the Lord and
- 15:09Speaker 2: the Lord talked to you, that caused her to come
- 15:12Speaker 2: up from being a victim and she started surviving.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Your sister, Sabrina, she says that she's a witness to
- 15:22Speaker 1: your words and that your mom word still lives and
- 15:27Speaker 1: that that brings me to ask you, how did witnessing
- 15:32Speaker 1: your mother's resilience shape your outlook on life and life
- 15:35Speaker 1: and challenges? And Sabrina, your sister, so you must have
- 15:38Speaker 1: witnessed some of that too, so you could send something
- 15:41Speaker 1: through and just let us know from you too, because
- 15:44Speaker 1: your sisters, but sometimes you see things a little differently.
- 15:47Speaker 1: How did witness in your mother's resilience shape your outlook
- 15:50Speaker 1: on life and challenges?
- 15:53Speaker 2: You know, when I saw my mama going through abuse,
- 15:59Speaker 2: I coulnot and as as a child, I couldnot wrap
- 16:02Speaker 2: my mind around I couldn't get that. You know, I'm
- 16:06Speaker 2: looking at her being abused and then you know things
- 16:11Speaker 2: that I suffered. It is like she really couldn't do
- 16:14Speaker 2: a lot about it, and so no, I mean I
- 16:17Speaker 2: couldn't really process all of that. But as I grew
- 16:20Speaker 2: older and she and I were able to talk, we
- 16:23Speaker 2: even made it to a place where we could pray together.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I saw her overcome things that she used to couldn't do.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I saw her find her voice. It didn't necessarily make
- 16:36Speaker 2: it easier in the beginning, but I saw her and
- 16:40Speaker 2: I could witness that, Hey, listen, you may have a
- 16:45Speaker 2: place where you're broken. I watched my mama go from
- 16:48Speaker 2: being broken to being healed. I saw her without an identity,
- 16:56Speaker 2: and then I saw her with God find it. So
- 17:00Speaker 2: for me, I can look at my mom and say, yeah,
- 17:04Speaker 2: A that was maybe a place where I am that
- 17:08Speaker 2: you know, I don't. I don't really see me. I
- 17:10Speaker 2: don't I don't get me. I don't know me. But
- 17:14Speaker 2: I saw her and her words.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Do you think me? Do you think that this could
- 17:19Speaker 1: lead to a broader conversation on how listeners can draw
- 17:22Speaker 1: in their beliefs or practices during tough times.
- 17:25Speaker 2: It can because it's real. Religion is skewed by the definition.
- 17:35Speaker 2: But faith in God is an absolute truth. Faith in
- 17:41Speaker 2: God works, the Word of God works.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I see and feel empowerment and self investment with you.
- 17:50Speaker 1: What does that mean? Since you're the president of Just
- 17:53Speaker 1: for Me Wellness Incorporated. I believe it is incorporated. How
- 17:57Speaker 1: would you define self investment and why is it essential
- 18:01Speaker 1: and personal growth and empowerment.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Self investments are important because there are investments you make
- 18:08Speaker 2: into yourself, not into somebody else, so you're not having
- 18:12Speaker 2: to decipher how to fix somebody. Self investments mean you
- 18:17Speaker 2: look at you as the priority. You look at yourself.
- 18:22Speaker 2: It's sometimes that's hard to do for life because we're
- 18:25Speaker 2: so busy focusing outward. So self investments causes you to
- 18:30Speaker 2: look inside and first of all, do an assessment of
- 18:34Speaker 2: how you're doing. You'd be surprised how you're doing. It's
- 18:39Speaker 2: empowering just to take a moment and say, how does
- 18:42Speaker 2: my body feel? I worked all day. You can't even
- 18:45Speaker 2: tell that your feet are slowly, you can't even tell
- 18:48Speaker 2: that you've even got a stomach ache, you've got a headache,
- 18:53Speaker 2: because you're so we're so driven to push past things,
- 19:00Speaker 2: so where we think that we're empowering others. We're kind
- 19:04Speaker 2: of like leeching from ourselves. You're losing a lot of you,
- 19:08Speaker 2: being the you that you see that needs to be
- 19:12Speaker 2: in your environment, in your social circle.
- 19:15Speaker 1: You've lost you a lot that I like that what
- 19:19Speaker 1: you said when you sat leeching off of yourself. I
- 19:23Speaker 1: would have never never thought about it that way. But
- 19:25Speaker 1: what are some of some simple practical ways people can
- 19:29Speaker 1: begin to invest in themselves daily mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
- 19:35Speaker 2: The way that they can do that daily listen first
- 19:40Speaker 2: of all, to do it on a daily routine. You
- 19:44Speaker 2: ever get up in the morning, and when you get
- 19:46Speaker 2: started going, your first thought is the things you gotta
- 19:50Speaker 2: do for other people, your job, your responsibilities, a self
- 19:55Speaker 2: investment you can do every day before you get to
- 19:58Speaker 2: going on yourself. Did you sleep okay?
- 20:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Are you playing on drinking some water when you get up? No,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I gotta hurry. Are you gonna take time to say
- 20:10Speaker 2: yeah for me today? I'm gonna start it off with
- 20:13Speaker 2: a praise. I gotta i gotta get some thank you in.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I gotta get my thoughts together. Sometime you wake up
- 20:18Speaker 2: you don't even have your right mind. Your mind is
- 20:21Speaker 2: your mind is bringing thoughts to you you're not even
- 20:24Speaker 2: in control of that's daily. You could do that mentally.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Mentally again, do an assessment. You get up, you know,
- 20:35Speaker 2: you wake up in the morning times and you gotta
- 20:38Speaker 2: check on that attitude. You don't even know where it's
- 20:40Speaker 2: coming from. Sometime it's left over from the day before,
- 20:43Speaker 2: got rotten day at work yesterday. You get up this
- 20:46Speaker 2: morning and sometime you're already predetermining what you think gonna
- 20:51Speaker 2: go wrong. Stop a minute and check on you. I'm good,
- 20:54Speaker 2: I'm good this morning. Yeah, I like me. I'm good,
- 20:57Speaker 2: and I'm gonna see about me today. Give yourself some
- 21:00Speaker 2: affirmation mentally. The next one was emotional yeah. Emotionally yeah yeah, emotionally,
- 21:10Speaker 2: I think again, it all comes to assessment. Taking time
- 21:13Speaker 2: to ask yourself how you doing? Do you know? Sometimes
- 21:17Speaker 2: you pack a lot of things in that you've got
- 21:20Speaker 2: an imosity about and you're finding out that I don't
- 21:24Speaker 2: feel good and some of that is really just your emotions.
- 21:28Speaker 2: You need to get a few minutes and say, you
- 21:30Speaker 2: know what, I don't like this right here or I
- 21:34Speaker 2: do like that. Give yourself time to assess what's going on.
- 21:38Speaker 2: You could you could hate your job. You could say
- 21:40Speaker 2: I want I hate my job and don't even know why.
- 21:43Speaker 2: You really think it's that, but it's something else. You
- 21:46Speaker 2: really just hate getting up, putting on clothes and getting
- 21:49Speaker 2: dressed up. It ain't even that serious. It ain't that serious.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Get out of that bad, especially when it's a nice,
- 21:58Speaker 1: warm bed and you just did that final turnover before
- 22:01Speaker 1: I ask you got to get up?
- 22:02Speaker 2: Talk about it, girl, You tell myself already moody.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I hear some people say, oh, I get up at
- 22:14Speaker 1: five o'clock in the morning for whatever they're getting up for.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm saying to myself, I'm just turning over for the
- 22:18Speaker 1: fourth time at five o'clock in the morning. So if
- 22:22Speaker 1: I had to get up at that time and that
- 22:24Speaker 1: wasn't my normal thing, yeah, I'm gonna be moody because
- 22:27Speaker 1: that wasn't my planing time and it just threw off
- 22:30Speaker 1: my day, Like dag, why am I up?
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:33Speaker 1: You know, especially dude, I'll say it for me like
- 22:36Speaker 1: I have. I have small children in my house and
- 22:38Speaker 1: one of them get up to go to the bathroom
- 22:40Speaker 1: at five o'clock in the morning. I know I'm heting
- 22:42Speaker 1: because I'm not going back to sleep because I'm feeling
- 22:44Speaker 1: like they're up and I don't like to I don't
- 22:46Speaker 1: like to sleep. Bile. The children are walking around because
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's five o'clock, you're starting to see that crack or sunlight.
- 22:52Speaker 1: They're up, So I'm asking, what what are you up for?
- 22:55Speaker 1: I had to use the bathroom. I wanted some water. Okay,
- 22:58Speaker 1: I get it that you had to use the bathroom
- 23:00Speaker 1: that water. It can have waited because then you got
- 23:02Speaker 1: to use the bathroom again. So I'm just turning over
- 23:06Speaker 1: and they're just getting up. So I do get that.
- 23:08Speaker 1: You know, when my mother used to tell my brothers
- 23:11Speaker 1: to get up, they would tell them.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Up, Ma, you'd take you.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I want to hed him. Feet hit the floor. They
- 23:17Speaker 1: would turn around and I knew they was doing it.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Thing I ain't say nothing. Turn around and you have
- 23:22Speaker 1: the people hit the floor. Their body was telling the
- 23:24Speaker 1: bag just laying there. I'm like, Okay, I'm gonna get
- 23:27Speaker 1: it now. But I do get it. I do understand
- 23:31Speaker 1: the emotional, But what about spiritually checking on yourself, spiritually
- 23:35Speaker 1: listen just just the times that we live in uh,
- 23:40Speaker 1: this social media platform, there is so many things that
- 23:45Speaker 1: come in to infistrate what is even true Spiritually, even
- 23:50Speaker 1: when it comes to God, there are times that God
- 23:53Speaker 1: is so misunderstood. He's given accountability for.
- 24:00Speaker 2: He didn't even do so. Spiritually, sometimes it's hard to
- 24:03Speaker 2: seek God for help when you don't trust God. God,
- 24:07Speaker 2: why you let this happen? What went on with that?
- 24:10Speaker 2: I don't understand. So spiritually you have to check on yourself,
- 24:14Speaker 2: and the only way to do that is in the
- 24:16Speaker 2: world of God and prayer. Now, you can't pray tell
- 24:19Speaker 2: God that you think is failing you. You know, even
- 24:23Speaker 2: when you go to church, if you are a person
- 24:25Speaker 2: that goes to church, sometimes you're looking more at the
- 24:28Speaker 2: person preaching than the person they're preaching about. You know,
- 24:33Speaker 2: God told me this one time. He says, if there
- 24:34Speaker 2: are a hundred preachers, one hundred preachers, now are one
- 24:39Speaker 2: hundred preachers, ninety nine of them are a hypocrite. Ninety
- 24:44Speaker 2: nine of the hundred are a hypocrite. And you're saying,
- 24:47Speaker 2: I can't believe nobody. You know what, I seen big
- 24:50Speaker 2: pastors do this, little pastors do that. And God said,
- 24:54Speaker 2: I don't care if it's ninety nine out of one
- 24:56Speaker 2: hundred preachers that are a hypocrite, What does that have
- 25:01Speaker 2: to do with the faithfulness and the finished works of
- 25:05Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. See. So spiritually, there's a whole lot of misconception.
- 25:12Speaker 2: There's a whole lot of untruth about God. He said,
- 25:16Speaker 2: I so loved you, I sent my son to die
- 25:20Speaker 2: for you. So while you're looking at all the ninety
- 25:23Speaker 2: ninety hypochrists, what does that have to do with my
- 25:27Speaker 2: love for you? It's personal.
- 25:31Speaker 1: So you can not saying that's right. I guess she
- 25:33Speaker 1: agrees with you and say, yeah, there's some hypocrites in
- 25:38Speaker 1: the church. And I'm gonna leave that long because I
- 25:40Speaker 1: just started going back. I don't want them to think
- 25:43Speaker 1: talking about them. But Shenett again is agreeing with you
- 25:48Speaker 1: and saying exactly now you spoke about investing in themselves daily, mentally,
- 25:53Speaker 1: emotionally and spiritually can improve How can they improve their mental,
- 25:59Speaker 1: emotional and spiritual well being? Listen, because if that is
- 26:04Speaker 1: one thing, but improving something totally different.
- 26:07Speaker 2: It is it takes. It takes this part of when
- 26:11Speaker 2: I know old people used to say this, when you
- 26:13Speaker 2: get sick and tired of being sick and tired, change
- 26:17Speaker 2: goes to happening. I'm gonna be a witness that you
- 26:22Speaker 2: can improve it by being willing. You know that some
- 26:27Speaker 2: you know, you know that's saying about how you know
- 26:30Speaker 2: if you keep doing the same thing looking for a
- 26:32Speaker 2: different result, you just you know, I ain't gonna say it.
- 26:34Speaker 2: You know that's crazy or nothing, but you know it's
- 26:37Speaker 2: not gonna change. So to make that improvement, even even
- 26:42Speaker 2: the concept of repentance just means change your mind. Be
- 26:48Speaker 2: willing to say that, you know what, That's a way
- 26:51Speaker 2: that seems right to me. But I can tell that
- 26:53Speaker 2: ain't working. That there's things that I've been putting my
- 26:56Speaker 2: hope in and I can see now it's not working.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Let me let go, let me surrender it.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Some people, it's hard. And I'll testify on that one
- 27:08Speaker 1: because I've been holding on to something for over forty
- 27:12Speaker 1: years and left it. And I'm gonna be honest. You know,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I'm not gonna sit there and act like it didn't happen.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And I just held on to it and it was anger.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I held on to it for such a long time.
- 27:24Speaker 1: But I'm gonna tell you right now, it feels so
- 27:27Speaker 1: good to them let it go. That was my friend.
- 27:30Speaker 1: It kept me company. He did what I wanted it
- 27:33Speaker 1: to do. It was there when I needed it. It
- 27:36Speaker 1: was my everything. You couldn't tell me nothing about I
- 27:38Speaker 1: would fight for my best anger. But that day it
- 27:42Speaker 1: had to go. I don't know what it was about,
- 27:46Speaker 1: but it had to go. Now it could be peeping
- 27:47Speaker 1: in windows, but my windows are shut and locked. So
- 27:51Speaker 1: I definitely, I definitely get what you're saying. Let me
- 27:55Speaker 1: ask you, what is the profound impact of just for
- 27:58Speaker 1: me wellness? Since we're talking about, you know, transformation and everything,
- 28:02Speaker 1: how do your wellness initiatives catly catalyze transforming individual lives
- 28:08Speaker 1: and strengthening community Because but you have this wellness program
- 28:13Speaker 1: just for me wellness, I want to know more about
- 28:14Speaker 1: that as well.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Just for me wellness uh in the in the title
- 28:20Speaker 2: of it, in the name of it, just for Me.
- 28:25Speaker 2: It focuses on the individual who comes in and participate
- 28:31Speaker 2: with our seminars, our wellness workshops. We do them in
- 28:36Speaker 2: person and virtually we do them in groups, we do
- 28:40Speaker 2: them individually, and it begins all with this one foundation
- 28:44Speaker 2: step learning to do basic self assessment, which we've already
- 28:51Speaker 2: discussed when you were asking me about how do you
- 28:54Speaker 2: how do you do that mentally spiritually? So it's it's
- 28:58Speaker 2: it's multi It seems like it's multifaceted, but at the
- 29:02Speaker 2: same time it's singular because it's all about checking on
- 29:08Speaker 2: yourself just for me. This isn't this isn't a wellness
- 29:12Speaker 2: initiative for you to try to lose weight per se
- 29:16Speaker 2: or you know, get in shape and that that's the
- 29:19Speaker 2: driving force. No, this is about your overall wellness so
- 29:24Speaker 2: that it can take it can take those areas that
- 29:27Speaker 2: are maybe more prioritized that you're struggling with. There are
- 29:32Speaker 2: people who may do want to lose weight. But the
- 29:35Speaker 2: thing is, have you assessed yourself to see what's going
- 29:38Speaker 2: on with the weight gain? What is what does this
- 29:40Speaker 2: even come from?
- 29:41Speaker 1: You know?
- 29:42Speaker 2: Is it just a mat.
- 29:45Speaker 1: A lot of people confuse that when they hear wellness
- 29:48Speaker 1: that automatically gravitate to weight nots that's right to what?
- 29:53Speaker 1: But a wellness could be just the wellbeing of you,
- 29:57Speaker 1: the mind, the body, the soul. But people are associating
- 30:02Speaker 1: it with the wellness for your just for me wellness.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Can you tell us more about some of the programs
- 30:07Speaker 1: it's orfited by just for Me wellness and then let
- 30:10Speaker 1: me know about the differences that they're making in your community.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Really, it has three basic principles. The programs that we
- 30:18Speaker 2: have again it deals with basic self assessments and from
- 30:23Speaker 2: there we move on to what we find and discover
- 30:28Speaker 2: for either the group or the individual or the participant
- 30:32Speaker 2: that really comes in and take advantage of the guided
- 30:36Speaker 2: way to do those assessments. Then we'll focus on the
- 30:39Speaker 2: target areas. There are people who come in and they
- 30:43Speaker 2: do need help with dietary nutrition. Some of them come
- 30:48Speaker 2: in and they're dealing with mental health issues. There are
- 30:51Speaker 2: others that come in and they have chronic illnesses. So,
- 30:56Speaker 2: just for me, wellness also networks with resources, so we're
- 31:01Speaker 2: not all about you know, as a disclaimer, we don't
- 31:05Speaker 2: bring you into programs and offer these things so that
- 31:09Speaker 2: you can say, okay, what do I need to do
- 31:11Speaker 2: and we prescribe something or we say take this medication
- 31:15Speaker 2: to see this position, but rather we do the assessment
- 31:18Speaker 2: and help you prepare to see a licensed position. There
- 31:23Speaker 2: are people that we have dealt with in seminars and
- 31:26Speaker 2: workshop and even individually who do don't take advantage of
- 31:30Speaker 2: going to the doctor. They go, but they go in fear.
- 31:34Speaker 2: They don't want to be honest, they don't really want
- 31:36Speaker 2: to share symptoms they're afraid of their medications. They get them,
- 31:40Speaker 2: don't take them, they take them like they want to.
- 31:43Speaker 2: So we come alongside with education to let them know
- 31:48Speaker 2: how to prepare for that. We also net where with professionals,
- 31:52Speaker 2: or we just did a workshop this past two months
- 31:57Speaker 2: ago on mental health awareness. Or We brought in rins,
- 32:02Speaker 2: We brought in clinical therapists, We brought in research so
- 32:10Speaker 2: that they could know the resources that are available in
- 32:13Speaker 2: that local city we was in as well as you know,
- 32:17Speaker 2: national hotlines. We brought in links that they could go
- 32:22Speaker 2: and visit. We gave them worksheets so that they can
- 32:26Speaker 2: take them home and do them so that when you
- 32:28Speaker 2: do go to the doctor, that you go prepare even
- 32:32Speaker 2: if it means listen, and also sometimes it means bringing
- 32:36Speaker 2: somebody with you to help you to even know what
- 32:40Speaker 2: happened when you went to the doctor, because sometimes it's
- 32:43Speaker 2: so intimidating. People will sit there and after the appointment
- 32:47Speaker 2: go home and what did the doctor say, Well, I
- 32:51Speaker 2: don't remember, I don't know.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Family, just for me, just for me. Wellness is actually
- 32:59Speaker 1: the real It's not just somebody have a brick and
- 33:02Speaker 1: mortar and they just put some words up there on
- 33:04Speaker 1: outside of a building. You are the real deal. What
- 33:07Speaker 1: are some of the most memorable success stories or moments
- 33:10Speaker 1: that have come out of your work with the non property.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. I remember talking with a with a
- 33:19Speaker 2: kind of an elderly lady in her in her seventies,
- 33:24Speaker 2: and she was petrified of doctors because she believed in
- 33:28Speaker 2: God so much that she just did not want to
- 33:32Speaker 2: So she was talking to me about her issues or
- 33:35Speaker 2: health issues, and I said, Okay, this is what we're
- 33:37Speaker 2: gonna do. We're gonna we're gonna sit together and we're
- 33:40Speaker 2: gonna go through this stuff. We're gonna talk about your symptoms,
- 33:43Speaker 2: your medications and all of this. Well, the fear left
- 33:46Speaker 2: her when when we could talk and she didn't feel intimidated,
- 33:51Speaker 2: you know, it was a good safe place, and we
- 33:54Speaker 2: talked about it and we got a plan together, and
- 33:57Speaker 2: then I told her, now, now you need to talk
- 33:59Speaker 2: to your family because you don't want them to be
- 34:04Speaker 2: in the dark about what's going on with you. And
- 34:07Speaker 2: then something critical happens, you know, And she actually did
- 34:12Speaker 2: have a terminal illness, but she was able to talk
- 34:15Speaker 2: to her family. They were able to come together be
- 34:18Speaker 2: a support system in that area. And then you know,
- 34:23Speaker 2: as she went on and by the way, she's still
- 34:25Speaker 2: alive today, but that's because she took the lesson and
- 34:30Speaker 2: she was able to self advocate for her wellness. Now
- 34:35Speaker 2: she didn't go in and wait for somebody to south
- 34:37Speaker 2: to her. She was able to ask questions, be knowledgeable,
- 34:41Speaker 2: she was able to take ownership of her wellness. And
- 34:46Speaker 2: then the.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Once they take ownership, I mean just about anything, but
- 34:53Speaker 1: especially of their wellness, it's like turning on a light
- 35:00Speaker 1: that's been out and refrigerated for such a long time.
- 35:03Speaker 1: How do you measure the success of these wellness initiatives?
- 35:07Speaker 1: Can you share some I know you shared that story
- 35:09Speaker 1: rate there, but what about some examples where your programs
- 35:12Speaker 1: have sparked real lasting change in the lives of those youselves.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Those that I've partnered with in the past, where we've
- 35:20Speaker 2: collaborated on health initiatives, wellness initiatives, where we've even we've
- 35:26Speaker 2: done some self defense classes even to help people to
- 35:31Speaker 2: learn how to be more aware of their surroundings and
- 35:34Speaker 2: be on the defense and not you know, feel like
- 35:39Speaker 2: a well if I don't have a gun, or if
- 35:40Speaker 2: I don't have a crowd, then I'm totally vulnerable. No,
- 35:45Speaker 2: we educated their awareness up to where listen, you may
- 35:50Speaker 2: need to get a weapon, so let's talk about the
- 35:52Speaker 2: ways to do that safely. We met with the Sheriff Department.
- 35:57Speaker 2: They were offering gun safety aware fareness classes. So all
- 36:01Speaker 2: of that is what just me Wellness is able to collaborate,
- 36:07Speaker 2: so we're not a standalone organization. We partner to bring
- 36:12Speaker 2: in what's needed for the people who are willing now
- 36:17Speaker 2: to come in and say, listen, I need to make
- 36:20Speaker 2: a self investment. I need to learn to do this.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I don't know how to do it. I'm afraid to
- 36:26Speaker 2: do it. So we look at success when we have
- 36:30Speaker 2: repetitive invitations to come alongside other organizations and bring in
- 36:35Speaker 2: what we have and sharing. When we do the workshops
- 36:39Speaker 2: and we send out the emails, and we get emails
- 36:42Speaker 2: by requesting follow up materials that we presented in our
- 36:48Speaker 2: seminars and workshops. So all of that goes into determining,
- 36:53Speaker 2: you know, what's working as well as what's not working,
- 36:57Speaker 2: and we may do it to look and extend our
- 37:01Speaker 2: level of comprehension to make sure that we're still relevant,
- 37:06Speaker 2: you know, to the community and families that we're serving.
- 37:11Speaker 1: So I love that you say investment. That's like a
- 37:15Speaker 1: deposit that they're putting in. How can someone stay consistent
- 37:19Speaker 1: with these practices, especially when life gets busy or they
- 37:22Speaker 1: face set back.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Well, that's the point of staying connected. Listen, We're not
- 37:28Speaker 2: an island. We're never going to be successful as an island.
- 37:32Speaker 2: So once you find out, you know where help is,
- 37:38Speaker 2: especially if the relationship is built. So it Just for
- 37:41Speaker 2: Me Wellness. I strive to build those relationships. So it
- 37:46Speaker 2: isn't just you come to this workshop, this seminar you
- 37:50Speaker 2: you know, you and I meet, we talk, you know,
- 37:52Speaker 2: and then that's the end of it. No, it builds
- 37:55Speaker 2: on relationship, whether it's with me or some of the
- 37:58Speaker 2: partners that I deal with that we try to build
- 38:01Speaker 2: that relationship because support is important. Community is strengthening more
- 38:10Speaker 2: so than a person saying well let me come in
- 38:12Speaker 2: and get a quick fix. Now, we want you to
- 38:15Speaker 2: know that we are part of a community at Just
- 38:19Speaker 2: for Me Wellness.
- 38:21Speaker 1: So are there any tips for overcoming challenges and maintaining
- 38:25Speaker 1: their mental, emotional and spiritual well being?
- 38:29Speaker 2: Yes, there is. I tell you what I guess. I
- 38:33Speaker 2: want to be careful in how I say this because again,
- 38:37Speaker 2: there's so much misinformation. There's so much I almost want
- 38:43Speaker 2: to say, you know, when I was speaking about how
- 38:46Speaker 2: God is even you know, it's not accurate information because
- 38:52Speaker 2: sometimes God is put on the level as man when
- 38:56Speaker 2: it comes to preachers or churches. It's like the people
- 39:00Speaker 2: that we see with our eyes are God, you know.
- 39:03Speaker 2: So if they do good, then God is good. If
- 39:06Speaker 2: they do bad, then God is bad. But I want
- 39:08Speaker 2: to tell you, for your emotional and spiritual, for your
- 39:15Speaker 2: just for you to find yourself, it is necessary to
- 39:20Speaker 2: connect with God in your own prayer time. But even
- 39:26Speaker 2: at just for me wellness, we do offer connections for
- 39:30Speaker 2: people who need to be strengthen in that area. People
- 39:33Speaker 2: who are grieving and they're having a hard time coming
- 39:36Speaker 2: out of it, we have connections for that. We do,
- 39:41Speaker 2: but again it's based on a person's willingness. So anybody
- 39:45Speaker 2: that's listening to me right now, and you're dealing with
- 39:48Speaker 2: some emotional issues, you're dealing with spiritual issues, you're dealing
- 39:52Speaker 2: with like you said yourself, you know, there's people who
- 39:56Speaker 2: are hanging on to anger because they don't know how
- 39:58Speaker 2: to let go so that they can experience peace. I
- 40:03Speaker 2: don't know how it's listen. I'm gonna tell you myself.
- 40:08Speaker 2: It may have been something that I hung on too
- 40:10Speaker 2: for such a long time. But the hurts, you know,
- 40:15Speaker 2: it may not hurt like you're pinching somebody or punching
- 40:17Speaker 2: them or slapping them or stepping on their foot.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Anger hurtings. And I can't tell you what that film
- 40:25Speaker 1: is like because you have to figure out if that's
- 40:29Speaker 1: the hurt from anger or to hurt from somebody else
- 40:32Speaker 1: that's within you. And once you let it go, I'm
- 40:35Speaker 1: telling you, it is such a freedom.
- 40:37Speaker 3: It is.
- 40:38Speaker 1: You feel so free, like you're just it's just so
- 40:42Speaker 1: much that you're free from. You know, You're sleeping patterns
- 40:47Speaker 1: are different, You're eating patterns are different, the way you
- 40:50Speaker 1: speak to people are different. It's just such a difference
- 40:53Speaker 1: because it's gone, and it's something that that I'll speak
- 40:58Speaker 1: for me weighing you down. And when it weighs you down,
- 41:02Speaker 1: you it's hard to get up. It is really hard
- 41:06Speaker 1: to get up. So let me ask you before I
- 41:09Speaker 1: go into all of that, because this is not even
- 41:11Speaker 1: about me. What is the process of emotional journey behind
- 41:16Speaker 1: writing deep a deeply personal book like Walking on the
- 41:20Speaker 1: Streets of gold. Oh my goodness, I.
- 41:26Speaker 2: You know, my mom was living, so it was it
- 41:29Speaker 2: was started out easy because she's right there, she's talking,
- 41:32Speaker 2: I'm writing, I'm sharing, and you know, I'm comprehending, I'm growing,
- 41:36Speaker 2: I'm being strengthened. But when she passed, she wasn't there anymore.
- 41:42Speaker 2: And I'm there with her words, I'm there with her voice,
- 41:45Speaker 2: and I'm there as a witness of her experiences. So again,
- 41:51Speaker 2: grief was.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Overwhelming.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I mean, I lost my mom and and and I
- 41:59Speaker 2: don't I don't have a place to pick up that
- 42:03Speaker 2: manuscript of those notes. But because she left the legacy
- 42:09Speaker 2: of wisdom about God, she left the wisdom about faith.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I was able to use what she said and be
- 42:19Speaker 2: able to go through the process of grieving. And it
- 42:22Speaker 2: wasn't instant overnight. Listen to me, the process was easier
- 42:27Speaker 2: because when I missed her and yearn for her, I'm
- 42:32Speaker 2: listening and i'ma remember her saying listen. But she died
- 42:36Speaker 2: of a terminal illness. She says, I'm tired, and God
- 42:39Speaker 2: is gonna give me some rest. And she says, what's
- 42:42Speaker 2: gonna happen is I'm gonna be with Jesus walking on
- 42:46Speaker 2: streets of gold. That's what he promised. She says, I'm
- 42:50Speaker 2: going to walk on streets of gold. And so when
- 42:55Speaker 2: I began to miss her and think on her, those
- 42:58Speaker 2: words came right on there too. She's not out in
- 43:01Speaker 2: the cemetery now. Her body is the remains of her flesh,
- 43:06Speaker 2: but her spirit is walking on streaks of gold. This
- 43:10Speaker 2: is what Jesus promise. This is this is what makes
- 43:14Speaker 2: God able to heal anger, jealousy, bitterness. God is able
- 43:21Speaker 2: to heal that through what he did by giving Jesus.
- 43:26Speaker 2: And so when my mama's words that, listen, baby, I'm
- 43:30Speaker 2: gonna be walking on streaks of gold. I'm gonna be
- 43:33Speaker 2: an overcomer whatever I suffer. Through God, through his son,
- 43:38Speaker 2: Jesus gave me freedom. I'm not a victim. And then
- 43:44Speaker 2: she went on to say this. Listen. She says, I'm
- 43:46Speaker 2: not even surviving. I'm not surviving an abusive marriage. I'm
- 43:51Speaker 2: not surviving racism. I'm not surviving when I couldn't forgive people,
- 43:58Speaker 2: I didn't survive it. I overcame it by the blood
- 44:01Speaker 2: of the Lamb. He told me the same way I
- 44:05Speaker 2: forgive you, you're free forgive them, and you're gonna be free indeed,
- 44:14Speaker 2: And so.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I don't want to say I don't want to say challenges.
- 44:19Speaker 1: I'd rather say different stages. What are some of the
- 44:22Speaker 1: stages that you faced in writing this book, especially since
- 44:25Speaker 1: it was such a personal story.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Wondering what the stages was you was your mom.
- 44:35Speaker 1: I don't like to death. I'll say separating from you.
- 44:38Speaker 1: So I know that was one of the stages, and
- 44:39Speaker 1: I know that that I can just imagine it being
- 44:42Speaker 1: one of the hardest. What are some of the other stages,
- 44:46Speaker 1: And I'll say it that way, because again I don't
- 44:48Speaker 1: like to say challenges that you faced them writing this book,
- 44:52Speaker 1: especially since it was such a personal story.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Well, I went through the stage of once I had
- 44:58Speaker 2: people supporting me and encouraging me to finish it. I
- 45:03Speaker 2: began to wonder when we were writing it. I wanted
- 45:07Speaker 2: it to stay in her voice, because that was her desire.
- 45:10Speaker 2: She wanted to tell it so because she didn't have
- 45:13Speaker 2: perfect grammar, perfect speech. You know, that was first the
- 45:17Speaker 2: challenge of trying to write it differently than she said it.
- 45:22Speaker 2: And so right there I said, yeah, maybe I do
- 45:25Speaker 2: need to change it, because I don't want people to say, well,
- 45:27Speaker 2: I don't get what she's saying. You know, it's her,
- 45:30Speaker 2: it's her vernacular, but you know people not getting it.
- 45:34Speaker 2: So I said, well, if if I don't write it
- 45:38Speaker 2: in a way where people get it, then you know
- 45:41Speaker 2: that's not helpful. But I went through the stage and listen,
- 45:46Speaker 2: we're gonna write it and honor her. This is her story,
- 45:49Speaker 2: so we're gonna keep her vernacular. So that was one
- 45:52Speaker 2: stage and so I stood firm and there were people
- 45:55Speaker 2: that supported me write it just the way she said it.
- 46:00Speaker 2: So I was good there, and then I went through
- 46:02Speaker 2: the stage up. But what is my family gonna say?
- 46:05Speaker 2: Because as you spoke about my sister who's on the
- 46:08Speaker 2: line now, her perspective of what Mom went through is
- 46:15Speaker 2: different than mine because the relationships are personalized. You know,
- 46:20Speaker 2: way her and Mama was wasn't the way me and
- 46:22Speaker 2: Mom was. And so I'm wondering who's gonna be offended,
- 46:25Speaker 2: who's gonna say that's not true or she shouldn't have
- 46:29Speaker 2: said that. And so I didn't quit, but I did
- 46:33Speaker 2: have a stage right there where I paused and said, wait,
- 46:37Speaker 2: I'm wondering how people are gonna hear it. But then
- 46:42Speaker 2: what brought me through that stage was either stay true
- 46:48Speaker 2: that this is her voice and she's telling how her
- 46:52Speaker 2: faith caused her to overcome, or this isn't the book
- 46:55Speaker 2: to write. And so I made it through that stage
- 46:58Speaker 2: by saying, yes, this is the this is walking on
- 47:01Speaker 2: Streets of Gold, Bassie, the voice of an open So
- 47:07Speaker 2: I may.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I love that you continue to refer to the things
- 47:12Speaker 1: that may be in the book as the voice of
- 47:15Speaker 1: your mom, because you know, between the two of us,
- 47:18Speaker 1: you know your mom's voice. And and I guess and
- 47:21Speaker 1: it sounds like every time you speak of this book,
- 47:25Speaker 1: although I'm hearing you, she's whispering too, and that that's
- 47:31Speaker 1: what it seems, that just keeps echoing out that she's
- 47:34Speaker 1: she's whispering to you, you know, and it just seems
- 47:38Speaker 1: that it's just it's not eerie, it's it's peaceful, you know,
- 47:47Speaker 1: just just by hearing what you're saying, and and and
- 47:50Speaker 1: and knowing the title of the book and visualizing the cover,
- 47:56Speaker 1: I feel as though she's whispering to you and she's
- 48:01Speaker 1: proud that you did youself voice and you didn't forget
- 48:04Speaker 1: all the lessons learned. So what ways, well, rather instead
- 48:09Speaker 1: of somewhat words, you were encouraged by so many others
- 48:15Speaker 1: to finish this book, and you were adamant about using
- 48:19Speaker 1: her voice. What encouragement or advice would you offer to
- 48:23Speaker 1: those who are hesitant to shar is their stories, Because
- 48:26Speaker 1: it seems like it's a powerful story and it's not
- 48:28Speaker 1: just your story, it's your legacy.
- 48:33Speaker 2: I would encourage people and tell them, listen, just write
- 48:38Speaker 2: it down. That's the first thing I would tell you.
- 48:41Speaker 2: You know, it may be it may be so intimate
- 48:45Speaker 2: right now that you don't see yourself sharing it, And
- 48:48Speaker 2: that's okay right now. But I encourage you write it down,
- 48:52Speaker 2: Capture it. It'll it'll actually minister to you as you
- 48:58Speaker 2: write it down, those words will speak to you as well.
- 49:02Speaker 2: And so capture that. Put it together. You know when
- 49:06Speaker 2: it's when it's a little difficult and you got to
- 49:08Speaker 2: back away, I want to encourage it.
- 49:10Speaker 1: That's good to back away. See this night, that's what
- 49:14Speaker 1: you hear from from a DAG winner. See the first
- 49:17Speaker 1: time coming out the gate. That's a DAG winner. And
- 49:20Speaker 1: what ways getting storytelling further? It's a powerful tool for
- 49:24Speaker 1: processing emotions. Because this book seemed like it was very emotional,
- 49:28Speaker 1: or it could have been very emotional and for people
- 49:31Speaker 1: was hearing your story, it could be very emotional. How
- 49:36Speaker 1: does the how does that resonate with you? And how
- 49:39Speaker 1: is that force the connections and promote healing.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Having you know, there's a saying about the best way
- 49:47Speaker 2: to overcome fear is to face it, and so in
- 49:52Speaker 2: writing this, I I every time I had to deal
- 49:55Speaker 2: with it, I had to face it. My mama was gone,
- 49:59Speaker 2: I had to face it it, you know, to work
- 50:01Speaker 2: on it. I had to face it through the stages.
- 50:03Speaker 2: And so in facing it, although not easy, it's processing.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Grief doesn't just poof go away. I mean, you know,
- 50:15Speaker 2: you go through the stages of denying it a while,
- 50:19Speaker 2: then you're angry about it happening. Then you're you know,
- 50:23Speaker 2: maybe depressed about it. Then the next thing you don't
- 50:26Speaker 2: know how to process bad memories that might have taken
- 50:30Speaker 2: place with the person you love. But all that is
- 50:33Speaker 2: the process, Okay, all that is the process, and it's okay.
- 50:38Speaker 2: God takes us through it. So going through this this book,
- 50:43Speaker 2: you will find that if there's somebody's who's lost her,
- 50:48Speaker 2: for people who lost the loved one, I would encourage
- 50:50Speaker 2: you to get the book because my Mama's voice talks
- 50:54Speaker 2: about how even through terminal illness, God was there with her,
- 50:59Speaker 2: and that that soothes the heart that the person you
- 51:04Speaker 2: loved God loved them too. He was with them. And yes, separation,
- 51:10Speaker 2: as you put it, is a part of life. It's
- 51:13Speaker 2: a part of life. It's not a strange phenomenon. So
- 51:18Speaker 2: God is there with us to let us know that
- 51:21Speaker 2: all of us didn't come to stay in this world.
- 51:23Speaker 2: We're gonna you know, we're gonna pass away one day,
- 51:26Speaker 2: but knowing the comfort that He gives a person. So
- 51:31Speaker 2: when my mama was in transition and she's talking about
- 51:36Speaker 2: I don't want to take a lot of time, but
- 51:37Speaker 2: I'm gonna share this one to help somebody. When you
- 51:41Speaker 2: buy this book, you're gonna hear my mom's voice talking
- 51:44Speaker 2: about how God told her, listen, if you were drowning
- 51:48Speaker 2: in the sea, I would become living water around you
- 51:55Speaker 2: and you wouldn't drown because I'm living water. Then to
- 52:00Speaker 2: see that you seem to be drowning in so you'll
- 52:04Speaker 2: loved one. Although they're going through that, God promises that
- 52:07Speaker 2: I'm right there, and he takes them through this passage
- 52:14Speaker 2: with the level of comfort, and that will comfort you
- 52:18Speaker 2: that will comfort you. When my mom talks about you know,
- 52:21Speaker 2: God is saying that I'm faithful to you even until
- 52:27Speaker 2: your last day, and I'll come and then you'll be
- 52:30Speaker 2: with me. So listen, in this book there there are
- 52:34Speaker 2: different stages. Each chapter. You will hear her voice echo.
- 52:38Speaker 2: The struggles, even the victories, you will hear an echo
- 52:44Speaker 2: of your own voice. This book ministers with you in faith.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Okay, so well, if you just mentioned that's a part
- 52:55Speaker 1: of what's in this book.
- 52:57Speaker 2: That's a part of what's in the book. Now, it's
- 53:00Speaker 2: an easy read. It's an easy read. But the but
- 53:04Speaker 2: the you.
- 53:05Speaker 1: Know, I bet the different on that when you say
- 53:07Speaker 1: that it's a real easy read because you wrote it.
- 53:11Speaker 1: You've heard your mother's words. But sitting here listening to
- 53:14Speaker 1: you speak, although your mom was not my mom, just
- 53:23Speaker 1: waiting to hear those words as I read it. That's
- 53:27Speaker 1: what would make it not an easy read, because it's
- 53:30Speaker 1: like an elder. Forgive me for saying it that way.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I would say, a legend in other words, speaking to
- 53:40Speaker 1: me and me paying attention. And I think that's what
- 53:44Speaker 1: I would get, and I'm only gonna be for me.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I would get for reading that book that I'm listening
- 53:50Speaker 1: to an elder talking to me about a journey that
- 53:56Speaker 1: she was on and that I may someday be on.
- 53:59Speaker 1: So I'm definitely interested in this pot. As we wrap up,
- 54:05Speaker 1: what's your vision for the future for Just for Me
- 54:07Speaker 1: Wellness and how can others get involved or support the
- 54:10Speaker 1: incredible work you're doing to continue making the difference.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Listen, my vision for Just for Me Wellness is that
- 54:17Speaker 2: we grow and stay relevant to the community that we serve,
- 54:24Speaker 2: and by that I mean that the elderly that community,
- 54:29Speaker 2: dealing with the ones who have become caregivers you know,
- 54:34Speaker 2: of a young generation, and then dealing with the young
- 54:38Speaker 2: people who are facing a whole new health crisis. Some
- 54:41Speaker 2: of them, you know, they're young adults, but they don't
- 54:45Speaker 2: have health care or again because of technology and the
- 54:49Speaker 2: changes in the medical profession. Even you know, it's just
- 54:54Speaker 2: so much. So we want to stay relevant. I want
- 54:57Speaker 2: to continue to be a life long learner and we
- 55:01Speaker 2: want a partner to make sure that people as individuals
- 55:07Speaker 2: continue to be educated to become self advocates not only
- 55:13Speaker 2: in their health, but in their emotional wellness, in their
- 55:17Speaker 2: social wellness, even in their families. Like I tell you
- 55:22Speaker 2: what I have really enjoyed. And I'm gonna tell you,
- 55:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna try to curb this because I can hear
- 55:27Speaker 2: the passion that's saying to me. Tell these people listen,
