- 0:00Barbara about Bow Bangor Management Fantasy Hockey
- 0:02podcast. Woo.
- 0:04Wow, got you off guard there. Right.
- 0:07You did catch me off guard there.
- 0:09I was just looking at what Kevin was saying.
- 0:12You wanted to know if he split the difference on the last
- 0:15episode. So I was telling him to go
- 0:17listen himself. So.
- 0:19It was spicy, it was spicy. The News Would You Rathers
- 0:22episode that dropped on Wednesday.
- 0:25It was quite something. He had some great selections.
- 0:29Unfortunately, he wasn't here, nor is he here for this
- 0:31recording. Wow, crazy summer.
- 0:34Yeah, but. Let him out stag free, Kevin.
- 0:40OK today. Today is our week 8 mailbag and
- 0:47hot topics. Not TM.
- 0:49Not. The It's Hot Topics and Mailbag.
- 0:51Hot topics and. Mailbag.
- 0:53Yeah, that's. True.
- 0:54I guess the other thing is hot topic.
- 0:55But we're hot topics. Yeah, exactly.
- 0:58It's different, you see? Yes, OK.
- 1:02So that is gonna be a lot of fun, some good choices here for
- 1:07the hot topics, Josh. And we love this one because it
- 1:09gives you an opportunity, the listeners to submit your
- 1:12questions to Bangor management, the fantasy hockey podcast with
- 1:15Jake, Josh and Kevin. And we love interacting with you
- 1:18guys, whether here or on the Discord, which is in the link
- 1:21tree. And then.
- 1:21Podcast subscription. So we do appreciate I'm doing a
- 1:24different intro today. You like what you hear.
- 1:27If you've been following us for a while, please, please follow
- 1:30on Spotify, Apple Podcast, wherever you get your podcasts
- 1:33and subscribe on YouTube. I don't know about you, but
- 1:36since I started doing the podcast with you guys, I have a
- 1:38whole new appreciation and all the podcasts that I've ever
- 1:41listened to. Like I actually follow now
- 1:42because like I realize how big of a difference it makes.
- 1:45So I know most of our listeners probably don't have their own
- 1:49podcasts. I know it's kind of you don't
- 1:52really experience it unless you're involved, but truthfully
- 1:55it does help us a lot and we would absolutely love that if
- 1:59you could just hit that follow or subscribe button much.
- 2:02Appreciated. Definitely been at fault of
- 2:04watching like all of someone's videos and then like never like
- 2:07following you're subscribing, you know, because when you open
- 2:09YouTube, they just if you watch it a lot, they just pop up on
- 2:11your screen. So I was like, OK, cool, I don't
- 2:12have to, you know. But then like I'm like, you know
- 2:14what, it literally cost me nothing.
- 2:16Why not support someone who like hours of content I've consumed?
- 2:20So I'm like, alright, why not? Other words, don't be like Josh.
- 2:24Yeah, exactly. Don't, don't be like Josh now.
- 2:27Yeah, exactly. Josh likes new Josh better.
- 2:32So yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 2:34OK, start us off with Hot topic #1.
- 2:38I'm not sure. About the whole time, but yeah.
- 2:42This is one of our few episodes that doesn't have a countdown,
- 2:43so that's why it's OK for Kevin to miss out.
- 2:47Alright, my first hot topic for this week is I feel like
- 2:51everyone's talking about it. I feel like I'm talking about
- 2:53all of these. That's why my hot topics, but
- 2:55Josh's Hot Topics TM. But yeah, the first one for this
- 2:58week is Yes for Walstead slash Philip Gustafson, the goalies of
- 3:03Minnesota, the shutout farmers. Like what is going on here?
- 3:08Yes, for Walstead puts up 3 shutouts in four games.
- 3:11And then Gus is like, hold my beer.
- 3:13I'm also gonna put up a shut out.
- 3:14You know, like, yeah, it's they're going back and forth.
- 3:17It seems like they, I saw a quote from Gustafson essentially
- 3:19being like, yeah, we know, we both know that the other guys
- 3:21breathing down our necks, we both have to play our butts off
- 3:23every single game. And it's just working.
- 3:27Minnesota out of nowhere is just, I think they've won like 8
- 3:30of the last 10 something crazy like that.
- 3:32And they're just absolutely on fire.
- 3:34And it's all starting from the gold.
- 3:35So I guess a lot of people are asking who's the one to own?
- 3:38Should I own both of them? Should I own only one of them?
- 3:42What's going on is this is one of them gonna take the starter
- 3:44job? Are they gonna split it?
- 3:45JPAS, someone with Walstead shares.
- 3:48What do you think is going on here?
- 3:50So I'm all over the place with this one.
- 3:55I flip flop on it all the time as to which one I'd rather own.
- 3:59I think that right now, I mean goes Gus has actually been
- 4:05decent but just whilst that's doing is insane.
- 4:08The reason it's a scary situation for Gustafson is
- 4:11because Wall Step was drafted to be the goalie of the future and
- 4:15then Gustafson got paid. This happened with Florida too.
- 4:19They drafted Spencer Night to be their guy and then they gave
- 4:22Bobrovsky a contract. Right?
- 4:25Or it was like, I don't know if that was the exact sequence, but
- 4:28it was in the same year. So to me, I'm looking at the
- 4:31situation, I'm just being like, OK, they're winning.
- 4:34They are both of them on the team.
- 4:36One of them is getting paid a decent amount.
- 4:38It's not 10 million. It's like 6.8 for Dustin.
- 4:42But then the goalie who you want to build confidence for for the
- 4:47future is actually doing insane, insane things.
- 4:51Yeah. So I think that they're gonna,
- 4:53they're more inclined and, and I, I didn't believe this until
- 4:57like I think it was the 3rd shutout in four games where I'm
- 5:00like now it's like, OK, I can't really.
- 5:02You just can't know what. He's getting away with it.
- 5:04Seriously, though, I'm a big believer that they're gonna get
- 5:08Walstead going, that they want Walstead to be the guy.
- 5:12And yeah, I mean, even if they have to trade Gustafson, need
- 5:15some of the contract, whatever, Like what's going to be their
- 5:17goalie for years to come. So I'm on Team Wall Street right
- 5:20now. I feel like, well, from what the
- 5:24coach was saying, it was we're gonna keep giving both of them
- 5:27reps until one of them runs away with it.
- 5:29And I know you're like one guy got three shots in four games.
- 5:31How is he not running away with it?
- 5:33But the fact is Gus has also been solid, not Alstead level
- 5:36solid, but he's been really good as well.
- 5:38So I think that it's too hard to predict.
- 5:40So you can't predict like who's gonna do better when both are
- 5:42playing at this level, right? But I think that's gonna happen.
- 5:45I think it's gonna be back and forth, back and forth.
- 5:46And then eventually one of them is gonna keep playing as well as
- 5:49he's been playing, and the other ones gonna filter and he's going
- 5:52to kind of take it. But I think that let's say the
- 5:55one who takes it and runs with it then starts faltering, the
- 5:58other guys going to jump in, right?
- 5:59So I think that this is at this point like pretty much 5050 from
- 6:02this way, this way on. But if it's a 5050 and both
- 6:05these guys are playing out of their minds like this, I'm happy
- 6:07to own either. Now we've talked about how like
- 6:10we don't like owning both goalies on the same team because
- 6:13it's kind of like, you know, Matt, minimizing your, your
- 6:15ceiling, right? Because at best you can get,
- 6:17you'll get all the teams games. But like some weeks that can be
- 6:20only two games from 2 goalies, something like that.
- 6:23In a situation like this, it could be worth it just to wait
- 6:26and see and then eventually maybe one of them pulls away and
- 6:28you can drop the other one. But if gun to our head, as Kevin
- 6:33likes to say, gun to your head, you have to hold own one right
- 6:35now, you're going Walstead. And I think that I think I
- 6:40probably go whilst that as well. Super.
- 6:45Close. It's just, it's too close.
- 6:47Honestly, I really don't think anyone of them is gonna run away
- 6:49with it with it just yet. I think it's gonna be 5050 for
- 6:52a. Bit the only thing that sucks is
- 6:53that I will say like if this was a role reversal and Walstad did
- 6:57what? Is.
- 6:59It and what Walstead it's doing. Walstead would not be in the
- 7:02picture. That's a really good point
- 7:04actually. I think the money is a big thing
- 7:07and whilst it is still a rookie, right, so it's a it's tough.
- 7:10I feel like it's tough to bench your $6.8 million goalie when
- 7:14he's playing right, even if the backup guy or not, maybe tandem
- 7:19guy, whatever is putting up three shots in four games.
- 7:21If your starter who you're paying is playing well, it's
- 7:24really hard to bench him. So I, like I said, I foresee a
- 7:275050 for the foreseeable future. And then I think one of them
- 7:31runs away with it. He takes it.
- 7:33OK, OK. Speaking of goalies, Eric
- 7:36Comrie, Connor Hellebuyck, I mean, this one's a lot less
- 7:39interesting than the first one. I think it's just we kind of
- 7:42covered this a bit on the mailbag episode, but pretty much
- 7:44held box out four to six weeks. Got a knee surgery.
- 7:46Comma is going to be a starter while he's gone.
- 7:48This is very much just a short term Band-Aid for your team if
- 7:51you need the goalie or if you're the about owner.
- 7:53I love grabbing him. But yeah, there's not too much
- 7:56to say on this one. But like, but I think I see a
- 7:59lot of people overvaluing Camry. You see a goalie go down like a
- 8:02a really good goalie go down and you rush to pick up the backup
- 8:05and then you're like, wait a second, this isn't actually
- 8:08gonna win me my season or anything like that.
- 8:10It's just a couple weeks of having a solid goalie.
- 8:13So I think people are overvaluing him.
- 8:15Like I saw people asking like, should I take comedy or
- 8:17Walstead? Obviously that was before the
- 8:193rd shutout, before the 3rd shutout, but still two shots in
- 8:21three games and you have whatever.
- 8:24Like it's obviously Walstead, not even those.
- 8:26So I'd say where I draw the line, like there were there were
- 8:30a couple like questions, you know, like some goalies to, you
- 8:33know, who would you take over? I would take Camry over most
- 8:37short-term plays. I think he's like a top tier
- 8:41short term option. But any guy who has staying
- 8:44power over the course of the season, I'm taking over comedy.
- 8:47Stuart Skinner. I think I would take Skinner
- 8:52over a Camry. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:55I just think like Skinner, like he sucks right now, but he is
- 8:59the starter for Edmonton and I feel like they turned it around
- 9:02at some point. It's, it's more it's, it's less
- 9:04about me liking Skinner and more about me thinking comedy is just
- 9:06such a short term option. Yeah, I guess the the way to
- 9:10look at it is that like, I mean, I'm assuming you take Wedgewood
- 9:14overcomer, right? Or blackboard close, yeah.
- 9:16Block with two. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:18OK, See that's like kind of it. It's like if there's it if if
- 9:22there's even like potential for them to be like a starter on
- 9:24like a good team. You know what I mean?
- 9:26It's just Skinner's been so bad. I feel like, you know, I would
- 9:29take Calvary over like Jonathan, Jonathan Quicks injured,
- 9:32whatever, but. Yeah, full backup for sure.
- 9:36Yeah, exactly. It's a really, it's honestly
- 9:39even tough to come up with names.
- 9:40I guess they'll whole narrative here is that Pomeroy has been in
- 9:44the NHL long enough that we know he's a true backup goalie.
- 9:46Backup goalies eventually have to back up the starting goalie,
- 9:49hence the name, and I wouldn't expect much.
- 9:52It's just more like sustenance and like, you know, maybe 30% of
- 9:56his games are gonna be good. Yeah.
- 9:59And then the other ones will be like, serviceable.
- 10:01So if you were real goalie trouble, that's it.
- 10:03You mentioned on the previous episode to pick them up if you
- 10:06have Hella Buck. I understand the logic there.
- 10:08It's most enticing to do so during that time.
- 10:12But as someone who doesn't own Hello Buck in my leagues, I'm
- 10:15not excited by it. Like, I'm just going to kind of
- 10:17let him stay on waivers. And that's.
- 10:19Yeah. Yeah, fully agree.
- 10:22OK, this is a fun one because he's doesn't even have a picture
- 10:25on Yahoo yet and he was 0% owned I think about a week ago and
- 10:31nobody knew he existed about a week ago even.
- 10:36His parents. Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:38They're doesn't have a picture on Yahoo.
- 10:39Who is this guy? You know who was undrafted?
- 10:43I literally lied to look him up. I was like, I looked up his name
- 10:46and draft position. I couldn't find anything like
- 10:47where was he drafted? Why is it so hard for me to find
- 10:49this? And it's cause he wasn't
- 10:50drafted. Anyways, the name we're talking
- 10:52about is Brayden Bowman of the Vegas Golden Knights line One
- 10:55power play 1. Where did this come from?
- 10:58This is crazy. Yeah, it's it's not often that
- 11:04like you see a player who wasn't drafted and who ends up like
- 11:07doing this type of thing and and he's young too, right?
- 11:10Like, yeah, it's not like he had major success in the KHL or like
- 11:15the school and he just like he didn't get drafted and he played
- 11:20in the OHL and he did like, OK, here's a point per game player.
- 11:24And then he was also fine in the NHL last year.
- 11:29This year becomes good at 22, which is OK, Where'd you come
- 11:34from? And now he's like almost a point
- 11:35per game in the NHL. This is a very, very illogical
- 11:40like sequence and progression of a young players career.
- 11:45Yeah, doesn't tend to happen. I don't know how scouts missed
- 11:48this, frankly. I mean, it's amazing.
- 11:51And he's a big body too 62190. 4V serious, cheeky.
- 11:55Sight but yeah, so this is an opportunity thing now to me if
- 12:00he's playing he's having right he's.
- 12:03Yeah, I got one. Super happy about it.
- 12:05Yeah, like you, you gotta, you gotta pick him up while he's
- 12:08hot. Right now he's 20% owned.
- 12:10He's currently playing with Jack Eichel on line 1 and Power Play
- 12:151. Like what's the way I see it is
- 12:18that he is a must pick up until Stone comes back or he loses
- 12:22that deployment. And I really the way he's been
- 12:24doing, I don't see him losing that deployment until Stone
- 12:27comes back. Yeah.
- 12:28And and even when Stone comes back, right, like I know that
- 12:33you have Dora Phev, who's like an actual left wing and and so
- 12:37is Barbashev. But like if it means staying on
- 12:40the line, like I don't think they're gonna wanna bench this
- 12:43guy. Like clearly what they have is
- 12:44more special what they have. Like I think I think at the very
- 12:47least he cemented a spot in the lineup and I think when Stone
- 12:51comes back, he's gonna get bumped off power play 1.
- 12:53I think it's very unlikely. The only other option would be
- 12:55forfeit and I just don't see them doing that.
- 12:57But I would not be surprised at all if he keeps lying on like
- 13:01line one power play 2 like so he he's not like an instant drop
- 13:05when someone comes back. But I do think that he's
- 13:08definitely going to take a big hit and could end up being a
- 13:11drop like a week later. Yeah.
- 13:12But also, Stone, who knows when this guys coming back, right?
- 13:14There's no news on him. And he could come back for a
- 13:17game and then get injured again. So that's another reason you
- 13:19might wanna hold on just to see if Stone is actually healthy
- 13:21when he comes back before you drop.
- 13:24But until then, yeah, I think this is a clear, clear pick up.
- 13:26Obviously, some leagues are super shallow.
- 13:28You're not gonna grab him. But like, line one, power play
- 13:30one on Vegas and putting up numbers.
- 13:32Yeah, this is kind of a no brainer to me.
- 13:34Love it as a pickup right now. Yeah, and on the vein of the
- 13:38Vegas Golden Knights, we've got Mitch Marner.
- 13:40Who? What is he doing?
- 13:42He's under a point per game. He doesn't shoot, he doesn't
- 13:44hit, doesn't block, doesn't win face offs.
- 13:46What? What does he do?
- 13:47You know, he sits in a chills in Vegas and collects his paycheck
- 13:50and then gambles it. I don't know.
- 13:52Why my question here? And like don't like.
- 13:55I really want you to think about it before you give me an answer.
- 13:57OK, I'm gonna would you rather on your team as far as
- 14:03alliteration goes trading Bowman original?
- 14:08OK, so easy. Yeah.
- 14:15What did you say? I is that is that easy Bowman?
- 14:18OK, OK, OK. Firstly tell all the listeners
- 14:21that was a joke. Please don't at us.
- 14:23But also I would say that's what's interesting about this is
- 14:28that his shots are horrible. Like it's really bad. 1.77 is
- 14:35kind of like unacceptable if you're not going to be a point
- 14:38for game player after getting this like amazing contract.
- 14:42So I don't know. I mean, look, this is still a
- 14:46good player. We spoke about it also on the
- 14:48previous episode. This is a decent player doing
- 14:51decent things, just way underperforming where you
- 14:54drafted him. I don't know if it's if it's
- 14:59Bilo territory, I think it's easy dilatory but it's like is
- 15:04it there yet? Do you think that because he was
- 15:07drafted in the second round? Yeah, I think that like pretty
- 15:12much all the back cat stuff, that's not going to change.
- 15:14I mean, that's what you drafted him knowing he's not a shooter
- 15:16and that he doesn't really do any backup stuff.
- 15:18The points are definitely going to go up.
- 15:19There's no way, there's no way he's finishing.
- 15:22Like in my mind I think he's he's like floor is like 1.1
- 15:24points per game. OK.
- 15:27OK. So yeah.
- 15:29So the object's gonna happen kind of soon.
- 15:30Now. Funny question, but like, this
- 15:33one's actually serious. Like, as long as Brandon
- 15:35Bowman's there, like, you know what I mean?
- 15:37Can Marner get to that level? I don't think Mariners getting
- 15:42line 1. I think they like him on line 2
- 15:44and they like the line one how it is.
- 15:45But I think that power play needs to is going to start
- 15:47clicking more and I think he's going to get more touches there.
- 15:50So that's definitely gonna help. Also, Marner could drive his own
- 15:52line. He doesn't need to ride the
- 15:54coattails of you know, like I'm sure it helps, but like he can
- 15:57do it. So he doesn't.
- 15:58So like the line 2 point deployment for Marner on Vegas
- 16:01team, like that line 2 has Dora Fav and hurdle.
- 16:03That's a that could be a line on a lot of the worst teams in the
- 16:05league. You know, like, yeah, that's a
- 16:07really good line. So I'm not too worried about
- 16:10Mariner. I already sent out a couple
- 16:11offers that got rejected for him.
- 16:13But yeah, I mean, just tell your expectations.
- 16:15He's not gonna get any blackouts.
- 16:16But you didn't get him for the back, he got for the points and
- 16:18those will come. Yeah, I wanna, I wanna do some
- 16:22Kenning here and ask you where the line is.
- 16:24OK, Yeah. Would you rather Mitch Marner or
- 16:27Broad Marshall Minor? And that's a great seller.
- 16:32By those all high saturation. Yeah, yeah, 100%.
- 16:35Jake Guentzel. That's tough, OK Denzel is going
- 16:40to end up like exactly a point per game and three shots.
- 16:43He's very easy to predict and that's you.
- 16:44Love that Marner's gonna get like 1.8 shots and like 1.1 to
- 16:501.2 points. I'd still go Marner.
- 16:53It's still go Mariner. Yeah.
- 16:54OK. And last but not least, would
- 17:00you rather Mitch Marner or Adrian Kempe?
- 17:07That's a tough one because campaign packets are really
- 17:10sick, but Ellie's power play is a bleep show.
- 17:15Yeah, but. There is.
- 17:16I'm still going. I'm still going Mariner.
- 17:18Really. That's where I.
- 17:19Draw the line. And then I think I think it's
- 17:21totally fair to go camping. I just think that I don't like,
- 17:24I don't like the power play situation in LA, even though
- 17:27campaign doesn't need it to be over to point for game.
- 17:30Three shots, one hit. So I definitely don't blame you
- 17:32for taking that. I do think Mariners ceiling is
- 17:34just significantly higher. Agreed, but but like the the
- 17:38floor is like because he has. The floor so risky 100.
- 17:43Percent. So risky.
- 17:43Yeah, it's actually funny because like I started off with
- 17:47a joke about who's the best alliteration king, but to me
- 17:49it's like if it's not working, they're going to have to kind of
- 17:52try to kick start him like they they are.
- 17:54And I don't I agree. He could drive his own line and
- 17:57Dora favors an elite scorer. Then they've got them paired
- 17:59together. It's awesome.
- 18:00But like I go is really the best player on this team.
- 18:03And don't forget, I mean, it's been years now that he was
- 18:06playing with other Tavarus or Matthews.
- 18:08We haven't seen that without it. And Hurdle is not that.
- 18:12Like, he's not as good offensively as Tavarus,
- 18:15obviously, not as good as Matthews.
- 18:17Yeah. So it's to me, like, I don't
- 18:19think this is gonna happen necessarily, that they're just
- 18:22gonna like, bump off Brayden Bowman tomorrow or anything like
- 18:24that. But like, they need to kick
- 18:26start Marner, like they need to. So I just don't know how they're
- 18:30going to do it. Yeah.
- 18:31And as long as he's on that line too, like, I don't know when the
- 18:34production is going to turn around, like, really?
- 18:36Yeah. I will say, like we mentioned
- 18:38before, the Mark Stone returning is going to be very beneficial
- 18:41to Marner. So that's another thing to keep
- 18:44an eye out. But obviously who knows if such
- 18:46one that happens and for how long.
- 18:48Yeah, alright, last topic. Yes, I was gonna say to keep it
- 18:52like, actually hot. Yeah.
- 18:55Exactly how hot was a flame? Yeah, we've got Miss Anderson.
- 19:01Yeah, yeah. Rasmus Anderson.
- 19:06Oh my God, everybody's laughing. Jackie just discovered these are
- 19:12these buttons. OK, so you're wondering why you
- 19:13were waiting for these? That's why you didn't hear what
- 19:17are, you know, everyone was applauding there.
- 19:20Last we've got Erasmus Anderson of the Calgary Flames who is.
- 19:24If you haven't seen what he's been doing, go check out his
- 19:26game log. It's absurd getting 3 point
- 19:28games left and right. He's shooting, he's blocking
- 19:30power play points and it is extremely unsustainable.
- 19:33He is one of the clearest cell highs I've ever seen.
- 19:37And that's not to say I don't think losing that power play 1
- 19:39moment. I think he's cemented that he's
- 19:40going to be a power play on defenseman and he's going to be
- 19:42solid for the rest of the year, at least until the trade.
- 19:44And then trade could, you know, affect him either positively or
- 19:47negatively depending on if he goes to a team that wants him to
- 19:50be power play one or not. But I'll have to be said.
- 19:52The piece he's playing at is just out of his mind.
- 19:55No one does this, definitely not him.
- 19:57So he's a clear cell high. Yeah, there's really not much to
- 20:00say here. It's it's we spoke about it more
- 20:02of weaker versus Anderson and that's really who who got hurt
- 20:05in this transaction as Mackenzie Weeger.
- 20:07Now that Anderson staple on Power Play 1.
- 20:10And uh, yeah, it's, it's interesting.
- 20:12If he does get treated, that's going to be spicy.
- 20:15But for now, yeah, for now, enjoy it.
- 20:17But his name is not zero and I really think you could sell like
- 20:21if his name was if there was no name value.
- 20:23But he's been good in the past and this is a big resurgence.
- 20:26So I would really try to capitalize it on it 100%.
- 20:30All right, let's. Get it?
- 20:31Let's dive in to the mail bag. So I've got 2 questions here
- 20:36that are kind of on the same vein, so I'm going to group them
- 20:38together. So we've got CBC on Reddit asked
- 20:42what's going on with Guenther? Is it going to get better?
- 20:45And then Paltry Boot on Reddit, asked what do I do with Clayton
- 20:47Keller? He's been liquid nitrogen old
- 20:49lately, which I love that. So these are both obviously tied
- 20:53together because all of Utah's top assets have been super cold
- 20:57lately and people wondering what to do with them.
- 20:59So in my opinion, they're all huge billows.
- 21:03I think they're going to turn it around.
- 21:04That team has too much offensive firepower to not be able to turn
- 21:08it around. I think they've gone through
- 21:11stretches in the past. They're also pretty young in
- 21:13terms of their top assets and young guys usually means more
- 21:16inconsistency. So you know, you ride through
- 21:19the lows, then you get crazy highs.
- 21:21Gunther and Keller are both guys I'm not worried about in the
- 21:23slightest. It sucks to hold your star guys
- 21:25when they're on a cold streak, but if you sell them at this
- 21:28value, that's that's how you lose leagues.
- 21:30And if you buy them at this value, that's how you win
- 21:31leagues. My one thing with buying them is
- 21:33they have a bad playoff schedule.
- 21:34But other than that I'm all I'm all on board on grabbing them
- 21:37buying low. Yeah, I, I, I know exactly what
- 21:41you're saying with the the playoffs schedule.
- 21:43That being said, like they're really, really good fantasy
- 21:46assets. Yeah, these guys.
- 21:48And I had a fast stat that I had pulled up before these
- 21:51questions. And that's that is in the last
- 21:5410 games. Utah is one for 22 on their
- 21:57power play. Wow, that's not sustainable.
- 22:01So they're messing around with it, trying to figure out what
- 22:03works. It seems like Sergachev coolly
- 22:08Guenther Keller, sorry, not cool.
- 22:10He said Sergeyev schmaltz, Keller and Guenther are like the
- 22:13locks and they're trying to figure out what to do with that
- 22:14last spot right now. They hating on there.
- 22:17I think their coach decided the reason we're not scoring is
- 22:20because we can't win a face off on the power play.
- 22:21And like, yes, winning a face on the power play helps, but you
- 22:24know what put the guy who just put up a four goal, 5 point
- 22:27night on your power play one. It's not it's not rocket
- 22:29science, you know, So hopefully Cooley gets it back.
- 22:32But even without that, like it should be popping off.
- 22:34So one for 22 super unsustainable.
- 22:36The power play is gonna come up. That's gonna bring up all their
- 22:38point productions. They won the last game five one
- 22:40versus Vegas. So they're still doing, they're
- 22:43still doing stuff right. You know, they just need their
- 22:45top guys to to wake up and get a bit.
- 22:47So I'm not worried about at all. Yeah, no, this is great.
- 22:51And for a bangers, again, there's honestly a stud Yeah,
- 22:55like she's not he's he's like he should be in the conversation.
- 23:01Like last episode we have Forsberg versus brat like
- 23:04Guenther, like, is that good statistically?
- 23:07And like, I mean, I'd still rather both those guys over him,
- 23:11but that's where we should be talking about him.
- 23:14And it's not even close right now.
- 23:16He had a great, great start, like an insane start, actually,
- 23:20And then it slowed down tremendously.
- 23:21So I basically agree with everything you're saying as far
- 23:24as it being a fantastic buy low and I I don't know who would you
- 23:29rather on your team between the two.
- 23:32Like taking Keller still, I think he's like really the
- 23:35talismanic player on that team. But I love get there's a shot
- 23:38volume, but Keller also shoots. I'm Glen colour for sure.
- 23:41But but I love both these players.
- 23:42I think they're both elite, elite talents.
- 23:44Yeah, I would ignore the playoff schedule here to be honest, and
- 23:47we don't. Like you get enough value, you
- 23:49ignore the playoff schedule always.
- 23:50Yeah, so I love it. I'm with you there, Hilo, for.
- 23:54Sure, alright, Elysium AB on Reddit asked in a bangers league
- 23:59that counts average time on ice and faceoff wins.
- 24:01Are you taking or geeky Easy Stitzel?
- 24:04And this is coming from the biggest geeky lover there is.
- 24:07Right, average time on ice is such an interesting stat.
- 24:10I know that's. Crazy.
- 24:11I actually love that. That's really cool.
- 24:14That's that's like I I don't, I don't know if I'd necessarily
- 24:18want to play in the league with that, but big, big fan of it as
- 24:21a concept. Yeah, I think it's gonna be one
- 24:24of those things that although it seems that you can plan for
- 24:28hours, Tom on ice, it may end up sort of playing out in effect,
- 24:31like plus minus. Yeah, it seems a bit a bit
- 24:34silly. Yeah, so because it's a bangers
- 24:37league, I mean, Stitzel is an absolute, absolute least.
- 24:40It's not so I know he's playing out of his mind and he's a great
- 24:43sell high. I also like him.
- 24:45I have him on my team, I drafted him and I'm not even like I am
- 24:48sending out some offers, but ideally I just want to hold on
- 24:50to him. I think he's gonna be great all
- 24:51season, but this is a tier above.
- 24:53Stool is definitely the pick. For sure.
- 24:56OK, Paul on Discord ask, do you guys have non fantasy sports
- 25:00jobs or do you do this full time?
- 25:01Do you want this to become a career or just keep doing it for
- 25:03fun? Well, yeah.
- 25:06It's so fun. So it's not our full time yet.
- 25:13I don't know about you, but I, I think like this is the dream to
- 25:16like really make this a thing. And yeah, actually, but when it
- 25:21comes down to it, I'd really, I guess I think that our goal is
- 25:25to really make it so that the people listening to us derive
- 25:29value from it. Fantasy sports are kind of in a
- 25:32way, it's kind of like the same thing as like comedians, right?
- 25:35It's sort of like an escape from your day-to-day.
- 25:37And it's like a way to have fun. And that's really important as
- 25:40time goes on. Life's not easy, so I will say
- 25:43that. Getting philosophical on us
- 25:45here, no like our. Goal really is to just like
- 25:47actually make it make content that you like to hear that is
- 25:53entertaining and also provides value for your fantasy hockey
- 25:57leagues and really to connect with you guys.
- 25:58That's why we preached the discord and the more you support
- 26:02us, you know, the the better it is not just to make not just to
- 26:07be successful, but to actually like it motivates us to just get
- 26:10better and be better and. Yeah.
- 26:12Yeah, so I mean, we have other jobs, but we really love it and
- 26:16we wanna grow it as much as we can.
- 26:19Yeah, definitely. Uh, yeah.
- 26:20We have other jobs and like, in terms of like where we wanna go
- 26:23with this. I mean, the Sky's the limit,
- 26:25right? I mean, sometimes I think I, I
- 26:27texted the guys, I woke up 1 morning and I was like, guys, I
- 26:29don't know if you have this like recurring dream, but it's like
- 26:32we blow up. We're on like TV on our own
- 26:34panel during intermission, you know, or like just chatting like
- 26:37we always do, you know? But like, yeah, yeah.
- 26:39So we, you know, we got big enough we can start having like
- 26:42actual Nhlers on our like, podcast as guests.
- 26:45Like stuff like that is kind of stuff that we dream about.
- 26:47But, you know, I think we're still a ways away.
- 26:50But for every follow, you know, it's more chance that we can
- 26:52get, you know, we can get my touch well on here, you know,
- 26:55like, yeah. And then they can RIP us a new
- 27:00one for, like, butchering their names because I know it's late,
- 27:02but it's just funnier to say. Mattel yeah, yeah, great
- 27:07question because it's fun. Alright.
- 27:10Pock came in on Discord, asked our Tyler Toffoli and Aaron
- 27:13Ekblad holes or drops in a redraft points league.
- 27:16Rattle off some cats for you. Goals, assists, power play,
- 27:18points to end points, shot hits, blocks and also asked Ken to
- 27:22fully get back power play 1 and will Matthew that's return make
- 27:25played better. So let's take this one player at
- 27:27a time to Foley. I think is an safe drop right
- 27:29now. He's not on power play 1 and I
- 27:32don't think anyone's going to snatch him up.
- 27:33Obviously the depth of the league matters, but I mean, even
- 27:36in our league, which is super deep, I'm not dying to grab to
- 27:38Foley or anything like that. He seems to fall in a bit out of
- 27:41favor with the coaching staff in terms of deployment and time on
- 27:44ice. So I think you can drop him
- 27:46pretty safely. And then Ekblad is has always
- 27:51been a drop in my opinion. The second the season started
- 27:53and he saw that it was Jones on power play 1, Ekblad was a drop
- 27:56to me. I mean, that's I just don't like
- 27:58defensemen on my team who are not either power play one or a
- 28:01pure bangers. So and he's neither and he's not
- 28:03going to get power play one unless there's an injury or
- 28:05something like that. I think he's a drop and I don't
- 28:08think Matthew Couch coming back really has any impact on him.
- 28:12Yeah, I'm totally with you there.
- 28:15The when at the beginning of the season it was Eckblad and Jones,
- 28:18if I'm not mistaken. So there was room for like, oh,
- 28:21how is this going to shake out? But I don't even think I'd be
- 28:25inclined to want any of them on my team.
- 28:27We're in a deep league and I wouldn't, I would rather all my
- 28:31defensemen over at Bud and I don't feel the need to pick up
- 28:34the fully. Yeah, all right.
- 28:37Joshua Furon on Discord asked our long term injured players
- 28:40worth the same amount as when they were healthy, is it worth
- 28:43trading for them to take a short term loss but a long term gain?
- 28:45For example, Mark Stone, Matthew Kuchuk, Victor Hedman.
- 28:48I love this question because we talk about on like a previous
- 28:52episode, like what you're kind of like trade philosophy is
- 28:56like, how do you come up with a trade?
- 28:57Like stuff like that. We had mentioned like, OK, we
- 28:59started like the bottom of the standings.
- 29:01We look like, you know, who's struggling on their teams,
- 29:03whatever. For me, another thing that I do
- 29:04is I look at the second someone gets injured, I'm like, I need
- 29:07to trade for that guy. You know, like especially if
- 29:10it's if they get injured and they're on the one of the lowest
- 29:12ranked teams in the league, like in our league, the bottom
- 29:16person, the person who's last in the standings is Jack Hughes.
- 29:19I've been sending out nonstop Jack Hughes offers.
- 29:21And first of all, you definitely, definitely are worth
- 29:23less than when they were healthy because they're not going to be
- 29:26playing for the next, you know, foreseeable future.
- 29:28And when it's a team that's struggling and trying to make
- 29:30the playoffs, they actually care about that.
- 29:32Look, if it's a team that's in first place and they have a guy
- 29:34like that, they're going to be like, no, I'm not gonna trade
- 29:36him for peanuts because I don't really, I'm not really worried
- 29:38about how I'm doing the next couple of weeks because I'm
- 29:40already doing so well in the standings.
- 29:42So the combination of injured by and team that's struggling in
- 29:45the standings, that's the sweet spot.
- 29:46And again, on the other side, you have to be doing well in the
- 29:49standings or feel comfortable with how you're going to do the
- 29:51next few weeks to be able to take that short term loss.
- 29:53But I think it's just thinking long term like that is so
- 29:57valuable. And if you can get these, if you
- 29:59have the IR spots available and you can make these types of
- 30:02trades and get you guys out of discounts, then I love that.
- 30:05Did you change your last name to Furon?
- 30:07Because. This is like so you know this is
- 30:09a question. Yeah, literally.
- 30:11And Joshua and Joey like it's this is exactly.
- 30:14It's my burger account, No, Yeah, we all have one.
- 30:19The only thing I would add to that is basically that your
- 30:23league can reward you for doing super well in the playoffs or
- 30:27the season. Sometimes the split evenly,
- 30:28sometimes it's more for playoffs.
- 30:30So the more that it rewards you during the season, obviously
- 30:35they lose like a tremendous amount of value for sure that I
- 30:38mean sort. Of it's it's sorry, it's not
- 30:40just about the like payout, right?
- 30:42Some leagues also have like buy weeks if you finish like top two
- 30:45in the league. Something like.
- 30:46That, yeah. So that's.
- 30:47I think about. However, it's rewarded so to me
- 30:50because they're worth so much less.
- 30:52Like as an example, Matthew to Chuck, well, he came into the
- 30:56year injured, but like, let's say forsake of argument, you
- 30:59know, Brady to Chuck, who was in the first round, he was drafted
- 31:02the second he got injured, he missed what, six weeks or so?
- 31:05Seven weeks already. Like if you could have traded
- 31:08your second round pick for him, I mean, you wouldn't have staked
- 31:13out that way in the draft, obviously, and you'd be reaping
- 31:15the rewards and then some when he gets back.
- 31:18So the whole idea is that you want to flip something, but you
- 31:21don't want to flip them for what they're worth.
- 31:23Of course, you don't want to give anything considerably less
- 31:26valuable, so. Yeah, if you're paying for them
- 31:28as if they were healthy, then you're not gaining anything from
- 31:30the trade. You have to do it at a discount.
- 31:33Absolutely. OK, Jodari on Discord asked if
- 31:37you could be any NHL player, who would it be and why?
- 31:42I don't know exactly Jake's answer.
- 31:46I, I saw this question of the discord and then you said that
- 31:48and I was like, who? Do you want me to tell you your
- 31:52answer or do you wanna? Answer.
- 31:54Actually, go for it. Jakey would choose to be Leon
- 31:58Dry Seidel. Oh my God, no, no.
- 32:04And the reason is no, no, no. This is all gonna simply be cut.
- 32:10You can't cut this, I hyped it up too much in the discord.
- 32:13That's correct. Anyways, the reason is because
- 32:16Jakey thinks that he has the hottest WAG so.
- 32:26OK, first of all, you're not wrong.
- 32:33I I actually think he's super good looking too.
- 32:35So they make an insanely good looking couple.
- 32:38So there's that. I am very loyal to my girlfriend
- 32:43who I love tremendously, but she agrees that Celeste is beautiful
- 32:48so. She is very beautiful to me.
- 32:53And yeah, I also feel like he's just like, he's a cool guy.
- 32:59He's like funny, you know what I mean?
- 33:00So I I. Even like when he's like a lead
- 33:03on the ice, it's funny, you know, because he doesn't look
- 33:05like he's trying. And then he'll do the most
- 33:07insane stuff. That's it, that's it.
- 33:10And then he has his girlfriend slash wife.
- 33:15So I guess Leon's just kind of winning all around here.
- 33:19So that's a good answer. Is it truly my answer?
- 33:24I I guess. I did it be anything you could
- 33:28think of. Yeah, wait, what about you?
- 33:32Would you pick? The funny thing is, all I
- 33:34thought about was your answer. I didn't even think of my own.
- 33:37You're mine. You chose mine.
- 33:38I'm gonna choose yours. OK, Yeah, I know exactly who
- 33:43you're gonna go. OK, it would be Ben Sherrod.
- 34:02And that's because Josh's wife finds Ben Sherrod super good
- 34:09looking. I can't even argue.
- 34:14That's exactly what I was gonna say.
- 34:18But I will say there's some there's some lure behind this.
- 34:20OK. He was on the Habs and were Habs
- 34:22fans, right. And like when we started dating,
- 34:24like I, you know, she didn't watch any hockey before.
- 34:26Like we were dating and then we'd be watching the games and
- 34:28she'd watch with me. And for some reason, the camera
- 34:31crew for Habs games were obsessed with showing venture
- 34:35out. Look, you think the guy with the
- 34:36most ice time or the the best player on the team would get the
- 34:38most like, you know, it's random commercial break and they just
- 34:41passed to a player, right? No, it was always better on.
- 34:43And she's like that guys a stud. And I'm like, yeah, he is, you
- 34:46know, And then they just kept showing him and it became a
- 34:47thing, like, we watching the game and, like, shouldn't be
- 34:50paying attention. Like, we're watching the game
- 34:51together, but like, it's really me watching it and she's on her
- 34:53phone or something. And then, like, for a split
- 34:55second, they show Ben shot on screen and she's like, hot.
- 34:57And I'm like, you weren't even paying attention to, like, they
- 34:59scored like three goals. You did not react once, you
- 35:01know, like, anyways, yeah, great, great, great answer.
- 35:05Jackie, you saved it. That's amazing.
- 35:08I wanna know who Kevin would be. That's the one.
- 35:12He would be Michael Pezzetta for the same reason as as my my
- 35:15Ventura. I think.
- 35:21I think Emily finds dry side all good looking too.
- 35:24So. I think like I like we've spoken
- 35:27about this, so I think, I think I'm in the clear here too,
- 35:30alright. Joshua Freon with another great
- 35:32question on discord so I had to include it.
- 35:34What's a stat that you wished counted for fantasy but doesn't
- 35:37or is super rare? Height now.
- 35:41I literally, we talked about this cheeky.
- 35:43It's the height for 60. You know, it's just like this
- 35:46team would be off the charts, literally off the size charts.
- 35:49My alternative would be protest for which player I would be,
- 35:52because that man is just so. Tall.
- 35:54But. Good.
- 35:57How does? A great question I I I think
- 36:01that like shooting percentage would be pretty fun yeah OK,
- 36:07that would be pretty cool and I feel like that's also like
- 36:11realistic to. It's like counterintuitive
- 36:13though, because like when you're kind of like targeting guys who
- 36:17have who are like maybe are more unsustainable or also just like
- 36:20don't shoot much, which kind of like goes against like what
- 36:22normally you'd be like targeting.
- 36:23But like, you see a guy like, you know, I mean, my goat Morgan
- 36:26Geekie, he was like been shooting like over like 25% for
- 36:29like the past two years, you know, and you're like, how does
- 36:32he do it? You know?
- 36:33So yeah, that's that's a really interesting one.
- 36:35Yeah, I feel like it is. It's a game shots.
- 36:38It's like inversely correlated with.
- 36:40Shots yeah, which is really interesting because usually you
- 36:42don't have inversely correlated positive stats.
- 36:45So that's really cool. I know that someone in the
- 36:47discord mentioned this and I really like it is a takeaways.
- 36:51That's such an under. We've talked about it actually,
- 36:53like us, me, you and Kevin about implementing that entirely and
- 36:57it's just such a unique stat. But it is like fantasy at the
- 37:00end of the day. It should be about, you know,
- 37:02better players being valued more right and like defensive play
- 37:06does not really get valued at all in fancy like hits and
- 37:09blocks is like is a way of doing that right, but it's not
- 37:11necessarily the same. And so that's a super
- 37:13interesting one. And that would be like, I think
- 37:14back in the day, like that would be like Pavel Datsyuk could be
- 37:17made insane at that, right. He was good at like the
- 37:19takeaways. And sometimes I watch like, you
- 37:21know, you know, you classic, like you go on YouTube, you
- 37:23watch top ten goals of whatever top ten says whatever, you know,
- 37:25like I've watched like top ten like Pavel tattoos, like steals
- 37:28and like it's a really entertaining to watch.
- 37:31He's like picks the pocket, you know, and like goes and like
- 37:33turns it into an opportunity. So don't be a really cool one.
- 37:36Takeaways is amazing and I just thought of another one I think
- 37:39I'd like to see even first of all, really though, takeaways,
- 37:42I've been preaching that for a long time.
- 37:43It's amazing. I think that even better than
- 37:47shooting percentage would be percentage of teams points.
- 37:52That's all. That's a lot, but that'd be.
- 37:55Sick. Like that would be like and
- 37:57every week it resets right. So it's.
- 37:59OK for the. Yeah, exactly.
- 38:01Like if Tampa Bay Lightning score ten goals in a week and
- 38:06Kucherov is gets 4 points right? Goals or assists, whatever that
- 38:12means that his participation rate is 4.
- 38:16Yeah, or let's say you say like each goal has three points of
- 38:18involved with it. So ten goals would be like 30.
- 38:20So you'd be like 4 out of 30. So, yeah, no, that's a, that's a
- 38:22very, very. Interesting too, actually.
- 38:24Yeah, yeah, yeah, that. That's even better, to be
- 38:26honest. But the only thing would be.
- 38:28Like in the weeds. Yeah, and the only thing is
- 38:30like, what if you picked up a player for only half the week?
- 38:32No, but I guess it's still, that's still fine.
- 38:34It would be how many points he got that game out of the total
- 38:37points. Yeah, anyway, super, super like.
- 38:40Complicated, majorly advanced, but like I actually like
- 38:42referencing that. Like I did it for our BI Lo this
- 38:45past week, products actually, and like that was like a big
- 38:48thing. Like that's really goes to show
- 38:50how important is because like good players on bad teams, bad
- 38:52players on good teams, But like, you know, when you have a good
- 38:54player on a good team, like that's it shows in the
- 38:58statistics. Like that's a really important
- 38:59thing. Even looking into it for draft
- 39:01season, it's probably like a big factor of what I've.
- 39:04Talked about, We talk about talismanic a lot, right?
- 39:06That would be the name of that cat.
- 39:08It would be how talismanic are you to your team?
- 39:11That's it, that's it. The the talismanic style I love.
- 39:14It yeah, that's my answer. It's nice, I love that.
- 39:17Yeah. OK, Vancouver on discord asked
- 39:20what type of league do you guys prefer?
- 39:22Redraft, dynasty or keeper? And how deep do you prefer your
- 39:25league? How many players owned?
- 39:27Are you a Canucks fan? I think they're they're discord
- 39:31picture is is the Canucks logo and their name is Vancouver.
- 39:34Maybe it's devour Canucks like. Jacques Clouseau, detective work
- 39:38by me over there. Yeah, you're good.
- 39:40So do you prefer to me? I think the Dynasty is my least
- 39:46favorite. I actually do one for football
- 39:48and it's a whole thing like pins in it too.
- 39:53We're we're big fantasy football fans.
- 39:55But and it's fun. It's cool.
- 39:57I think that, but that's an easy one.
- 40:00Like I I'd rule it out now. I really like keeper a lot.
- 40:07I think it's really fun. That's probably my answer, but
- 40:10I've never done a keeper categories league, so I wonder
- 40:12how that would go. I think that would be pretty
- 40:14cool. I'm going to quit keepers points
- 40:15league which I really enjoy but to me like the trouble with
- 40:22dynasties. In general it's just like it
- 40:24becomes like a lot and it's super deep, whereas at least
- 40:28keeper you keep it to the same level as a redraft size, which
- 40:31is nice because it's all relevant players for this year
- 40:34and as far as the league size, it's got to be at least 12 man
- 40:36league. Yeah, and I mean in terms of
- 40:39like players own, so I like 12 like 14 I think is the sweet
- 40:41spot in terms of like teams, 12 is like the minimum.
- 40:44I'll go 12 to 14, but 14 is the best.
- 40:46And then I really like our league size.
- 40:48What do we have like 2222 rosters?
- 40:51So it's like about 303 hundred players, something like that 280
- 40:55to 300 players I think is the sweet spot.
- 40:57I like where like you have to dive into like you have to pick
- 40:59up some of those like under 10% owned guys, but also like you
- 41:03don't have to roster. Like I know that Kevin is in a
- 41:04league with one of our fans and and that they literally rosters
- 41:09the entire NHL. And I just think that's that's
- 41:11way too overkill. Like that's that's just
- 41:13ridiculous. So like, I really like.
- 41:14This team at that point, yeah, exactly.
- 41:16That's the team. You know what?
- 41:18I. Mean yeah, I.
- 41:19Know shade to it, it's kind of fun, but that wouldn't all be
- 41:22like where I would like stake the majority of my time.
- 41:26Really. Yeah, exactly.
- 41:28And then it's 300 years of the type.
- 41:31I fully agree. I mean, I've only ever done
- 41:32redraft, so I'm going off like what I think.
- 41:34I think honesty would be my least favorite just because my
- 41:37favorite part of the year is the draft.
- 41:38Like that's like I I mean, I love everything after it,
- 41:40obviously, but like the draft is so exciting.
- 41:42And then like dynasty, you draft once and then I know you draft
- 41:45every year for like rookies and whatever, but like, yeah, for
- 41:47the most part you drafted and that's just your team forever.
- 41:50You know, like especially in a team that doesn't in a league
- 41:52that doesn't trade much, also like that's just brutal to me.
- 41:54So so definitely would be my bottom choice.
- 41:57And then I've never done it. I think I would put keeper at
- 42:00first just because I've been dying to I love trading.
- 42:02I've been dying to toss and draft picks into my trades.
- 42:04Like that just sounds like so fun.
- 42:05Like I could see like, you know, tanking one year, just getting
- 42:08like a billion first pigs are like going the other way and you
- 42:11know, like mortgaging the future for like whatever.
- 42:13So I think that has just a lot of a lot of good potential and I
- 42:16think it makes a lot more interesting trades, let's just
- 42:20say trade options, so. Trading for good keeper values
- 42:23too is also a fun. Dot yes, 100% it's very lot of
- 42:26fun trade stuff there and trading my favorites so.
- 42:29Let us know in the comments what your favorite league type is
- 42:32between the three. OK, Frank on Discord asked if
- 42:37your team is stacked and poised to win, is it worth selling some
- 42:40pieces to improve draft picks for next year?
- 42:42So it's kind of ties into the draft pick stuff.
- 42:44I mean, at the end of the day, I think it's just what matters
- 42:46most is winning this year, right?
- 42:48You don't wanna cost yourself the win because you're thinking
- 42:51of future years. But if you can win this year by
- 42:54just a slow, a smaller margin while also prepping for next
- 42:57year, then yeah, 100% go for it. Yeah, I think it's kind of fun
- 43:01to look at this as an IRL example.
- 43:04I think Ryan O'Reilly for Tage Thompson is such a win for
- 43:07Buffalo for Tage Thompson yet, Yeah, Saint Louis Blues won the
- 43:10Cup, Yeah. So you can't really say that a
- 43:14team that won the Cup didn't win the trade.
- 43:16And Buffalo's probably not winning Stanley Cup in 20/25/26.
- 43:20So all this to say, like you do things in fantasy for the same
- 43:24reason you want to win. So it's absolutely fine to hope
- 43:28mortgage your future fantasy hockey wise and fantasy hockey
- 43:31wise important out there. It's it's very important to to
- 43:38try to win this year if you have the opportunity.
- 43:40Where I would just kind of go a little deeper here is that
- 43:44teams, there's no real concrete way of looking at this.
- 43:48But as the season goes on and these teams see that they're not
- 43:52making the playoffs, it could be two things.
- 43:55It could be like, wow, OK, well, person in first place, let's say
- 43:59Frank is in first place. I'm not going to like, I know
- 44:02he's desperate for the value here.
- 44:04Like I'm going to demand an even higher premium.
- 44:06And on the other hand it's like, oh wait, like I'm losing
- 44:08anyways, I may as well get what I can for my players.
- 44:10So know your league mates is a big one there because I've been
- 44:13in this position before with our keeper league I was just
- 44:16mentioning and it's really tough to find that balance.
- 44:20Yeah. So be very strategic with when
- 44:22you trade to bolster your chances of winning this.
- 44:26Yeah, 100%. OK, Gran Admiral Spoons on
- 44:29Discord asked if you had to build a fantasy All Star lineup
- 44:32based on your league season so far.
- 44:33Who makes the cut? So let's do one of each
- 44:36position. Let's start with goalies.
- 44:38Who do you think is the best goalie this year?
- 44:41I mean if you're going on averages it's wall stud because
- 44:44he's just shutting out every single game.
- 44:45If you're going on like short ish term, but like over the
- 44:49course like a month, I'd go like Askerov honestly, because what
- 44:51he's doing is nuts. Over the course of the whole
- 44:54season so far. I mean, honestly, it could be
- 44:58like wood Wedgewood. I was gonna say it.
- 44:59Could be Wedgewood, yeah. So, so let's put, let's toss a
- 45:03Wedgewood as our goalie of our All-Star fantasy team so far,
- 45:07Centre. I feel like it's gotta be
- 45:08McKinnon, right? No one's gonna beat that.
- 45:11Um, yeah, wingers. Who's who's well.
- 45:14This is this is interesting though, like let's should we do
- 45:17this based on like what we think is gonna be like an actual All
- 45:19Star team or based on the performance?
- 45:21I know, he said so far, but like you.
- 45:23Mean from now on for the rest of the season.
- 45:26Yeah, just like which is like the best top five at each
- 45:29position type like best because like I feel very weird putting
- 45:32wedding Agreed it's wrong. But like someone who's been
- 45:37super good who coming into this year, like who could make like a
- 45:41like right now. I mean, I would have rather Tom
- 45:43Wilson than than Nikita Kucherov based on how this season gone.
- 45:46But like, I can't say that you know what I.
- 45:48Mean. OK, Fair.
- 45:49Fair. Yeah, but let's be fun about
- 45:52this. Yeah.
- 45:53So a goalie, I would say, like someone I really believe in and
- 45:57who's also been really good this year.
- 46:00I can see Darcy Kemper being the best.
- 46:02Let's go. I had a feeling you're gonna say
- 46:04that. My team.
- 46:05Yeah, I think that's like totally fair.
- 46:07Logan's Hobson had an insane stretch, but like Kemper was a
- 46:11bit of a rough start, but been very, very consistent otherwise.
- 46:14So he's kind of like my goalie and I'll be like reasonable
- 46:18about this, I guess in a way to say that like it's it's not
- 46:22flashy name like Bass or Chester.
- 46:24Yeah, but I really. Like, no, I like it.
- 46:25Let's let's do make it a bit more interesting than just
- 46:27putting the best player. OK, fine.
- 46:28So there's goalie centre. Let's put Leo Carlson.
- 46:31Honestly fair. Like, yeah, you know, we're
- 46:34being fun about it, right? Like obviously it's McKinnon,
- 46:36but like that's what Leo Carlos in there because he's in he's in
- 46:38super fun and like. A good way to answer this is,
- 46:40like, under the radar, but like, also really could be learning at
- 46:44each one. Exactly.
- 46:45So let's go with that right wing.
- 46:47I'm picking Connor Bedard. Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 46:51I think that's fair. He was not after in the first
- 46:52round. Now, uh, left wing gotta go.
- 46:59Yeah, honestly, like I feel. Or what about what about the
- 47:03geek? The geek man.
- 47:05Yeah, fine. There you go.
- 47:07Let's let's go working geeky, honestly, right?
- 47:09And then who are our two defensemen?
- 47:12Chicken. Chickens been nuts.
- 47:14Morrissey's been pretty nuts. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:17I mean. That's that's just off the top
- 47:20of my head. I'm not even looking.
- 47:21At like car feels unfair. Yeah, Yeah.
- 47:24We know Big McKinnon not thinking my car cause those are
- 47:25just the obvious ones. Yeah, I like that.
- 47:28Those are kind of like guys who have been outperforming, let's
- 47:30say what? Chicken Morrissey.
- 47:33Yeah, like that. All right.
- 47:36All right, Mitch Jay on Discord asked.
- 47:38Is Saros a drop on waivers? There's guys like Walstead,
- 47:41Grieves, Kochetkov, Talbot, Schmid.
- 47:43I'm dropping zeros for Walstead. I don't know about you, but I
- 47:46know that's crazy. But like, yeah, I, I think that
- 47:50I think that doing that, I'm definitely not dropping him for
- 47:53Talbot, definitely not dropping him for speed and not dropping
- 47:56in for Chekov, not for Grieves either.
- 47:58I think Walt's the only one that I would drop zeros for out of
- 48:00this. List.
- 48:01Yeah, I'm with you there. Let's we got the same answer.
- 48:04Cool. Love it.
- 48:05Yeah. And lastly, Alexander on Discord
- 48:08asked IS0G only viable for redraft leagues or can it also
- 48:11be good in keeper slash dynasty leagues?
- 48:14It's a great. Question Dynasty.
- 48:16I would say no because that's that's like a long term thing
- 48:23and like you you, you have a much deeper league in dynasty.
- 48:27And the reason 0G works is because you have yes, per
- 48:31Walstead. My 3 goalies right now at the
- 48:34time of this recording are Sheila was Wellstead and Dobesh.
- 48:37None of them were drafted. And although I don't have
- 48:40incredible conviction in any one of them individually, I mean
- 48:44Wallace is looking really good, but the Gustus in situation it's
- 48:47up in the air. Whatever.
- 48:48I think that 1 1/2 of them are gonna do really well this year.
- 48:52I don't know how it's going to shake and I don't mean that he's
- 48:57going to become half a goalie, but I just AM.
- 48:59Going with Walstead and bottom half shield, bottom half of
- 49:02dovish, that's my answer. It's like Dobish I think.
- 49:04It's like I don't know between. Dobesh.
- 49:08Sheilas. So to me it's like these guys
- 49:11weren't drafted, nobody talked about them at the beginning of
- 49:14the season and now they're on my team.
- 49:17Whereas you can draft Connor Hellebuyck and he is.
- 49:21I can guarantee you that for the next 4 weeks she loves is going
- 49:24to be better than Ella Bug. So it's the opportunity cost
- 49:28because it literally is gonna be hard.
- 49:29But yeah, it's the opportunity cost of missing out on a good
- 49:32player there. Like that's the way I see it
- 49:33where we're I never want to pick a goalie super high.
- 49:36Moreover, it's because you could pick somebody up dynasty you
- 49:40don't have that luxury. So.
- 49:42It's way too. Risky.
- 49:43I fully agree. And I think another interesting
- 49:45way of looking at it is that what I like about 0G is in any
- 49:48given year, someone's gonna. It always happens where a goalie
- 49:52comes out of nowhere and just has the most insane year.
- 49:54But usually that goalie doesn't like maintain it, right?
- 49:58It's like a one year thing. Like, remember that year?
- 50:00Where what was it? Who so on on Saint Louis, you
- 50:03grabbed him and he went on that insane run and then he's a
- 50:05waiver guy for the rest of his career.
- 50:07You know, like, yeah, so year over year.
- 50:09And that's what makes 0G so valuable is the fact that on any
- 50:11given year, any goalie could come out and be the best goalie
- 50:14that year. But in terms of like consistency
- 50:16over the course of multiple years, that's not going to
- 50:19happen for the most part. So that's why I think it's
- 50:21mainly every draft strategy. Yeah, and the last thing to top
- 50:26that off is Dobesh and Wall Street where there's no way they
- 50:29were on your dynasty unless it's like a super shallow league.
- 50:32They were not on your waivers. I'd be very for sure not whilst
- 50:35that whilst that's like as soon as you would draft, he was
- 50:38probably like the third or fifth overall pick there.
- 50:41The the the big 1 is, it's interesting because in a keeper
- 50:45league you could maybe GO0G. Like me, that just depends how
- 50:49many keepers I think. Yeah.
- 50:51And then it gives you the opportunity to buy at a premium
- 50:54as opposed to draft next year. But I'd say yeah, in that order.
- 50:59Redraft is by far the best then keeper than dynasty.
- 51:02Yeah. All right.
