- 1:20Please be forewarned that each episode contains specific and at
- 1:24times a very graphic and disturbing details of the case
- 1:28and may not be intended for all audiences.
- 1:31This case was important to me to share and discuss with you for
- 1:34several reasons, although, I am native to the West Coast and
- 1:37have lived, most of my life in California and Arizona, I know
- 1:41called the beautiful state of North Carolina, my home.
- 1:44Charlotte is the largest city in the state, which is about a
- 1:47three hour drive from where I reside, but it still feels close
- 1:50enough to feel a connection to the area and it's tragedies.
- 1:54This case is a tragic example of how marginalized groups of
- 1:57people. In this case, being young
- 1:59African-American, women are not prioritized and protecting much
- 2:03less is law enforcement, given the resources to solve cases of
- 2:08missing raped and murdered women.
- 2:10Also in the True Crime, world were serial killers like Gacy.
- 2:13He Bundy Dahmer in the like always place in the spotlight,
- 2:17it is important to me and I find way more compelling to learn
- 2:20about the cases and better understand the perpetrator
- 2:24profiles of serial killers, who are less common household names.
- 2:29I also wanted to cover this case because there is an abundance of
- 2:32accurate details. Provided by the Appellate Court,
- 2:35case for a criminal law nerd, like me.
- 2:37Well, it doesn't get any sweeter than finding real court cases to
- 2:41read and gather information from, for a story.
- 2:44This is the case of the Taco Bell Strangler Charlotte Henry
- 2:48Louis Wallace. 1993 marked the bloodiest year in Charlotte
- 2:53North Carolina history with a record 129 murders.
- 2:58The ever-rising Siege. That was the crack cocaine
- 3:01epidemic flooded the most impoverished neighborhoods with
- 3:05violence and chaos. The criminal justice system's
- 3:09assault on the African-American communities, through its gross.
- 3:12Disparity of sentencing for crack cocaine had disrupted and
- 3:16shattered. Countless families.
- 3:19For those of you who are not familiar with this law, the
- 3:21sentence held for the conviction of crack.
- 3:23Cocaine versus powder cocaine is extremely disproportionate under
- 3:28the anti-drug Abuse Act of 1986 the law made it.
- 3:32So that an individual would face the same penalty for the
- 3:35possession of 5 grams. Of crack cocaine, that's someone
- 3:39who possessed, 500 grams of powder cocaine would under the
- 3:45100 to 1 ratio sentence. A person with a tiny amount of
- 3:49personal crack cocaine use could spend a minimum of five years in
- 3:53prison for the offense. However, someone trafficking
- 3:57powder cocaine could have 100 times this amount and face the
- 4:01same penalty. Given the notable demographic
- 4:05differences between a typical crack cocaine, user versus a
- 4:08cocaine. User based on the huge
- 4:11difference. One narcotic over the other
- 4:12costs, this statute repped absolute Havoc.
- 4:16Upon the lower economic, minority classes, with many of
- 4:19their residents, getting caught with a rock and ending up
- 4:23sometimes doing 20 years for personal drug.
- 4:26Use this left a gaping hole in their communities.
- 4:31Law enforcement was bombarded. It with handling drug busts and
- 4:35the escalating rise of violent crimes.
- 4:37In these neighborhoods, they were spread thin overworked
- 4:41better and tainted by what they were witnessing unfold.
- 4:45There were also ever-escalating racial tensions, amongst police,
- 4:49and residents mainly due to political and public pressure
- 4:53priority over. Missing and murdered
- 4:55individuals. For more affluent, areas took
- 4:58precedence over what happened in the ghettos and in the
- 5:01struggling, working minority classes.
- 5:03A veil of Darkness loomed over the city, with the friendly
- 5:07monster hiding in plain sight, who would murder nine young
- 5:11women in this neglected and ignored Urban existence.
- 5:17The following details of each crime were taken from the
- 5:20Appellate Court case, State versus Wallace 2000, North
- 5:23Carolina, Supreme Court. And based on the recorded
- 5:26confessions of Henry, Louise Wallace, Murder One, Caroline
- 5:32love, Henry's own. Love the mother of his beautiful
- 5:35little girl lived in an apartment.
- 5:37With a young girl named Caroline love on June, 15th 1992.
- 5:41Caroline had just finished her evening shift at a Bojangles
- 5:45restaurant. For those of you who are not
- 5:47familiar, Bojangles is a very popular Popeyes or KFC type fast
- 5:52food restaurant chain and South, they are known for their
- 5:56delicious fried chicken biscuit sandwiches and Hush Puppies.
- 5:59I've become I'm quite familiar with Bojangles living in North
- 6:02Carolina now but I digress, as Carolina love needed to do some
- 6:07laundry after work. She asked the night manager.
- 6:09If she could exchange a roll of quarters for $10, while walking
- 6:13back to her apartment, her cousin, Robert Ross drove by and
- 6:17offered her a ride home which she accepted, he later told the
- 6:21police, he saw Caroline safely into her apartment before
- 6:24driving away. A few days went by and Caroline
- 6:28love failed to show up for work. It was not her style.
- 6:31Her boss had Bojangles reached out to her sister, Kathy, to let
- 6:35her know and Kathy, left a note on her sister's apartment door
- 6:38the following day, she received another call that her sister
- 6:42Caroline did not show up again for her shift.
- 6:45Ironically, Kathy reached out to Henry, Louise Wallace whom, she
- 6:48knew to ask him to find Sadie McKnight, who was her sisters
- 6:52roommate and asked her. If she knew what her sister was
- 6:55Henry. And his girlfriend Sadie along
- 6:58with the missing girls, sister. Kathy, Filed a missing persons
- 7:01report at the local police station afterwards Kathy entered
- 7:05her sister's apartment. She saw the some of the
- 7:07furniture had been disrupted and that her bed sheets were gone
- 7:11later. It was determined that the role
- 7:13of laundry quarters was also missing.
- 7:16There was no sign or evidence of Caroline love and where she had
- 7:20gone. Henry Lee.
- 7:22We swallows confess, the following sequence of events
- 7:25took place that night, he had made a copy of their house, key
- 7:28from his girlfriend's key and enter the apartment when no one
- 7:32was home. Sam Lee Henry heard Caroline
- 7:34Enter he called out to her that he was using the restroom and he
- 7:38would leave as soon as he was done upon entering the living
- 7:41room, Henry saw Caroline love watching TV and went over to her
- 7:45kissing her on the cheek. Caroline was upset by this but
- 7:49said she would not tell his girlfriend Sadie as Because he
- 7:52promised to never kiss her again, this subset Henry
- 7:56triggering some kind of rage inside of him and he put
- 7:59Caroline love into a wrestling like choke, hold.
- 8:02She scratched it Henry's face, and arms.
- 8:05Well, he held her tight until she blacked out.
- 8:08He then moved her to the bedroom.
- 8:10Unclothed, her took the court of a curling iron to bind, her
- 8:14hands behind her back with and covered her mouth with tape,
- 8:18Henry proceeded to have sex orally and vaginally with
- 8:21Caroline. And while she slipped in and out
- 8:24of Consciousness, as Caroline began to gain Consciousness,
- 8:28Wallace used to choke. Hold on her again.
- 8:30And this time, he did not let up until her body went limp.
- 8:34Feeling her heartbeat, still Henry strangled Caroline until
- 8:37she died. He abruptly left the apartment
- 8:41and moved his vehicle to a closer point to the stairwell in
- 8:44order to transport her body. With minimal effort, rapping
- 8:48Caroline's body inside her own bed sheet.
- 8:51He Laced her inside a large orange trash bag.
- 8:54He carried the bag along with the decoy bag and the attempt of
- 8:58a ruse to indicate. She had left on her own accord
- 9:01and which he stuff some of her personal clothes inside.
- 9:04He dumped the bag along with loves body inside into the woods
- 9:10concerned that the orange trash bag was too visible from the
- 9:13road. He later returned to remove her
- 9:15body from the bag and moved it into a shallow ravine.
- 9:20Murder two, Shawna Hawk. Shawna Hawk was an ambitious and
- 9:24hardworking young woman who lived with her mother while she
- 9:27studied to be a paralegal at a local community college.
- 9:30All why pulling shifts at a Taco Bell.
- 9:32Unfortunately, for Shawna her path would meet that of
- 9:36Wallace's. Who was her manager at the
- 9:38fast-food restaurant on February, 19, 1993 Shauna's mom
- 9:43returned. Home to prepare dinner for them.
- 9:45When she noticed that her daughter was not there, she
- 9:48became alarmed. When she saw her coat and purse
- 9:51were still hung up in the closet, her motherly instincts
- 9:55were strong. And she knew something was off
- 9:57since it was too cold of a Winter's Night in.
- 9:59Charlotte to go out with an extra layer on and she never
- 10:03went anywhere without her purse. She called shawna's boyfriend.
- 10:07Darrell Kirkpatrick to inquire as to if he knew where she was,
- 10:11but he did not Shauna's mother became even more concerned when
- 10:16she was informed, that Shawna never picked up her.
- 10:18God son from daycare. She rummaged through her
- 10:21daughter's purse and notice her keys were gone.
- 10:24And there was many missing when Darryl arrived, they called the
- 10:27police to report. Sean, a missing Darryl did a
- 10:30careful walkthrough of the apartment and suddenly saw that
- 10:33the shower curtain had been pulled outside of the tub to his
- 10:37horror is Dara pulled the curtain back.
- 10:40He saw his girlfriend submerged in water her body all curled up.
- 10:46Sadly, Emergency Services. Could not save the young woman.
- 10:50Life and upon the ride to the hospital.
- 10:52She died. Henry, Louise Wallace later told
- 10:57of how he had visited Shawna that day and they had chatted
- 10:59for a while as he was leaving, Shauna hugged him.
- 11:03He then told her that he wanted to have sex with her.
- 11:06According to Wallace, he took her into her bedroom, instructed
- 11:10her to take her clothes off and to perform fellatio on him which
- 11:14he did. And he then reciprocated oral
- 11:16sex on her. According to Wallace, he and
- 11:19Shauna had mutual sexual intercourse, but he expressed
- 11:22how she was scared. And The entire time afterwards,
- 11:27Henry told her to dress and let her into the bathroom without
- 11:31warning Henry shove. Shauna's, head between his arms,
- 11:34placing her in a Chokehold until she lost Consciousness.
- 11:37He then filled the tub with water and laid Shauna's body
- 11:41inside. However, dr.
- 11:44Sullivan, who performed the autopsy noted?
- 11:46That there was physical evidence indicative of ligature.
- 11:49Strangulation a ligature for those of you who are not
- 11:52familiar with the term is a tools.
- 11:54Such as a corridor band or some other kind of material or
- 11:57instrument, that can be made into a band record, which is
- 12:01placed around the neck. And then as utilized to compress
- 12:04the neck with Force, Murder three, Audrey Spain, 24 year old
- 12:11Audrey Spain. Was another innocent young
- 12:13woman. Whose path would cross with
- 12:15Henry Luce. Wallace on June 23, 1993, Audrey
- 12:19never showed up for her shift at a Taco Bell in Charlotte.
- 12:22Which alarmed her manager. Marc Lowrance since Audrey was
- 12:25known to be a very reliable employee very concerned.
- 12:29He decided to drive over to her apartment that same evening
- 12:33where he noticed her vehicle in the parking lot.
- 12:36He Not go to her apartment but rather he left a message for on
- 12:39her phone. The following morning.
- 12:42Mark Lawrence drove by her apartment again and saw her
- 12:45vehicle was still there. This time, he called Audrey
- 12:49sister to convey his concern, but she never picked up no
- 12:53return his call. So when Audrey failed to show up
- 12:57for her shift at that evening, he decided to call 911 the
- 13:02police row by her apartment, a few times and even knocked on
- 13:05her door, but no one ever. Answered, two days.
- 13:08After Audrey's initial disappearance on June 25th
- 13:11maintenance from her apartment complex went through sliding
- 13:14glass door to find her dead body upon her bed, Audrey's manager,
- 13:18Marc Lowrance stopped over that same day officers informed him.
- 13:22That Audrey was deceased the following day.
- 13:26The same doctor who performed Shauna's autopsy removed.
- 13:29A crafted ligature of a T-shirt and a bra that had been forcibly
- 13:33wrapped around the woman's neck with the end of the shirt.
- 13:36Shaft into her mouth, once The Binding was removed.
- 13:40Just as before he saw that, there was a mark left by the
- 13:44force of the ligature. There was hemorrhaging in the
- 13:47lining of her eyes, the skin of her face inside her voice box
- 13:51and in the muscles within the front area of her neck.
- 13:55There was no doubt that the young woman's cause of death was
- 13:59from strangulation. Henry Lee waste Wallace would
- 14:02later reveal that he and Audrey had gotten high together that
- 14:05night. But his primary motive for being
- 14:07there was to rob her, he admitted to having placed Audrey
- 14:11in a Chokehold and demanded the combination for the safe, the
- 14:15Taco Bell, where she worked, but she claimed to not know the
- 14:17numbers Wallace also inquired, about her own personal bank
- 14:21account, but she told him that she was broke since she had just
- 14:25returned from vacation. Although Audrey begged for him
- 14:29to not hurt her henrique kept her in the Chokehold until she
- 14:32lost Consciousness. He then dragged her body into
- 14:35the bedroom and raped her. After he sexually assaulted her,
- 14:40he forced her body into the shower and washed off any
- 14:43evidence. He may have left behind Henry
- 14:46then laid Audrey into her bed and tied the tee shirt and bra
- 14:50Contraption he had made around her neck before fleeing.
- 14:54The scene he took her car keys and credit card which he used to
- 14:58buy gas. To thwart belief as to what day
- 15:01she'd actually died Henry returned to her apartment and
- 15:06made phone calls from her home. Murder for Valencia jumper.
- 15:11Valencia jumper was another young woman with big dreams and
- 15:15the motivation to reach them, a political science student in her
- 15:19senior year at Johnson, C Smith University in Charlotte.
- 15:22She also found a way to balance working two jobs, she worked
- 15:25part-time at a food line, which is a very popular grocery store
- 15:29chain in the South similar to a safe way.
- 15:32And another part-time job at hex, which was later rebranded
- 15:36as Macy's at South Park Mall, All of her aspirations would
- 15:40come to a screeching halt. On August 9th, 1993 when she
- 15:44would face Henry Louis Wallace earlier that day, a friend of
- 15:49hers. Zachary Douglas had asked if she
- 15:51wanted to meet up later than night Zachary.
- 15:54However, do not show up until the very early morning of August
- 15:5710th when he arrived, he saw smoke bellowing out from
- 16:02Valencia is apartment door key immediately turned the door to
- 16:05find it unlocked and rushed inside.
- 16:07The room was filled. Too much smoke for him to go any
- 16:09further. So he knocked on her neighbor's
- 16:11door and ask them to call the fire department upon entry.
- 16:15A firefighter saw that one of the burners on the stove had
- 16:17been left on based on analysis of the fire scene, including the
- 16:21noted pattern of the fires Direction.
- 16:24It was believed that the fire began from a pot that had been
- 16:26left on the stove. Valencia jumpers, burned body
- 16:30would soon be found lying in her bedroom initially.
- 16:33It was believed to have been a terrible accident, but the
- 16:35autopsy would show. Otherwise Dr. Sullivan, the same
- 16:39forensic. Pathologist who had conducted
- 16:41the autopsy on the two previous victims would perform Valencia's
- 16:45as well. He immediately noticed that
- 16:48there was no soot present in her Airway which proved there was
- 16:51not a significant level of smoke inhalation, dr.
- 16:55Sullivan will list the cause of death to be thermal Burns.
- 16:58Since there was no presence of carbon monoxide in her blood.
- 17:03After Wallace's confession, the cause of death.
- 17:05Would later be changed to strangulation.
- 17:09When Henry confessed a Balenciaga a murder he shared,
- 17:12how she had been like a little sister to him and that they had
- 17:15spent a lot of time together. The night, he killed her, they
- 17:19had been hanging out while chatting her apartment and
- 17:22Wallace initially left. He decided to return to ask her
- 17:26to call his girlfriend Sadie, whom he claimed, he had just
- 17:29gotten into a fight with when Valencia went to grab the phone.
- 17:32He Stone her placing her in a Chokehold, he then forced her to
- 17:36go to the bedroom and demanded that she take off her clothes.
- 17:39Valencia, swore that she would do whatever he wanted, but just
- 17:42to please don't hurt her. They had oral sex and vaginal
- 17:46intercourse and afterwards. While she was pulling her
- 17:49clothes back on Henry, ambushed her wrapping a towel, forcibly
- 17:53around her neck. He choked her until Valencia
- 17:56passed out on the floor. She was bleeding from her nose.
- 18:00So Wallace applied, even more force of Round her neck with the
- 18:04towel for another 5 minutes, until he did not feel her
- 18:07breathing any longer, he then very methodically walked around
- 18:12Valencia's apartment and clean his fingerprints off.
- 18:16All the areas where he had been while in the kitchen, he spotted
- 18:21a bottle of rum, which he poured all over.
- 18:23Valencia's body, all over the bed and onto the floor,
- 18:27returning to the kitchen. He opened up a can of beans,
- 18:31poor them inside a pot, and Turn the stove, tops burner on high,
- 18:35he removed the battery from the smoke detector lit a match in
- 18:38the bedroom and threw it on to Valencia before leaving.
- 18:43He stole Jewelry off her dead body, 20 minutes after leaving
- 18:47the crime scene, he returned to witness smoke coming from under
- 18:51her apartment door, so he promptly left and went home.
- 18:57Murder five, Michelle, Stenson. Michelle, Stenson was only 20
- 19:02years old and had two young boys went on September 15th, 1993.
- 19:07She would become another victim of the talkable Strangler that
- 19:11night, a friend of hers. James Mays had come by her
- 19:14apartment to spend some time with her and her son's but no
- 19:18one ever answered the door. Suddenly he heard the kids
- 19:21knocking on the window, telling him that Mom was sleeping on the
- 19:24kitchen floor at first. He thought they were just being
- 19:28silly and playing games with him but Michelle never answered when
- 19:31he called out to her. He was about to leave when the
- 19:35oldest boy is suddenly appeared from the back door and grabbed
- 19:38him picking up the child, he entered the apartment there, he
- 19:42saw his friend Michelle with blood all around her lying dead
- 19:46on the kitchen floor. When he picked up the phone to
- 19:49call 911, May's noticed that the court had been pulled out or
- 19:53even cut from the wall, he fled the apartment both.
- 19:57Young boys and knocked on a neighbor's door to call the
- 19:59police. This time when dr.
- 20:03Sullivan performed, the autopsy the modus operandi of the
- 20:06offender had changed the young woman had been stabbed four
- 20:10times on the left side of her back, to of the stab wounds had
- 20:14caused injuries to her heart and lungs, which could have been
- 20:17potentially fatal on their own dr.
- 20:19Sullivan, also observed evidence of ligature strangulation in the
- 20:23form of a band of abrasions and contusions over the front of the
- 20:27neck and small hemorrhages in the skin of the face.
- 20:30And the Ava, which is the mucous membrane which covers the front
- 20:34of the eye and lines. The inner part of the eyelid, as
- 20:37well as internally in the muscles of Michelle Stinson's
- 20:41neck, it was concluded that Michelle's cause of death had
- 20:46been stab wounds to the chest. In addition to strangulation the
- 20:50modus operandi and the maliciousness of Henry, Louis
- 20:53Wallace, had escalated in his confession.
- 20:57He admitted that he intentionally went to Michelle's
- 21:00apartment. Rape and murder her.
- 21:03Now, this is the first time that Henry, Louise Wallace had been
- 21:07so honest, and transparent about his motives, perhaps even to
- 21:12himself Henry arrived late at her apartment around 11, p.m.
- 21:16that night. And after he and Michelle, spend
- 21:18some time casually chatting with one another.
- 21:21She hugged him goodbye. Well, was told her that he
- 21:23wanted to have sex with her and instructed her to take off her
- 21:26clothes, Michelle, resisted expressing to Henry how she was
- 21:30sick but Wallace demand is she shows some proof of medication
- 21:34that she was Ill, but she did not have.
- 21:36He then began to choke her. Michelle agreed to have sex with
- 21:40Wallace to make him to stop. He told her to perform oral sex
- 21:43on him. Was she reluctantly did claiming
- 21:46that she did not know how Wallace told her that she was
- 21:49about to learn how they then had sex on the floor of the kitchen
- 21:54afterwards. Henry, Louise Wallace using his
- 21:57now known to be signature move. The Boston choke placed her in a
- 22:01choke, hold until she was unconscious.
- 22:05He grabbed a towel from the bathroom Twisted it around her
- 22:08neck and strangled her with it. When she struggled to breathe
- 22:12and fight for her life. He stabbed her four times with a
- 22:14knife. Wallace was fully aware of the
- 22:18evidence. He had left in her apartment, so
- 22:20he methodically removed his fingerprints with a washcloth
- 22:23from a glass, the door, the wall, the floor, and the phone.
- 22:28However, this time there was a witness at the scene, her eldest
- 22:32son had awakened Wallace, ushered him to return to bed,
- 22:36which thankfully, he did Henry left through the back door,
- 22:40holding a towel around the doorknob to prevent his
- 22:42fingerprints from being left behind.
- 22:45He disposed of the weapon and the towel by tossing, them over
- 22:48a fence at the back end of her apartment.
- 22:51Martyr 6. Vanessa Mac.
- 22:55Vanessa Mac was a young mother of two little girls working at
- 22:58Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
- 22:59When her Destiny would sadly become intertwined with that of
- 23:02Henry. Louise, Wallace's on February
- 23:0520th 1994 Barbara, be the grammar to her oldest daughter,
- 23:09arrived at the apartment at 6 a.m. to pick her up as this was
- 23:13the routine, every Sunday, so that Vanessa could go to work
- 23:17upon entry. She saw that the four-month-old
- 23:19baby was lying alone on the couch when she found strange and
- 23:23she called for, for NASA. Was no response.
- 23:26When she went into her bedroom, Barbara ripping notice Vanessa's
- 23:29feet, hanging off the side of the bed.
- 23:31Only her feet were exposed, but they looked gray and felt cold
- 23:35to the touch. When officer Jeffrey Bumgarner
- 23:39of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department discovered
- 23:41Vanessa dead upon the bed. He noticed a towel had been
- 23:45wrapped around her neck, and that she was bleeding from her
- 23:48nose ears. And at the back of her head,
- 23:51there was also a pocketbook with various Items scattered across
- 23:55her bed on February 21st 1994, dr.
- 23:59Sullivan wants more found evidence of strangulation and
- 24:02observation of blunt force trauma.
- 24:04The victim's neck had been strangled with a ligature
- 24:07concocted of a long-sleeve pullover top and a towel,
- 24:11another young, woman's life had been taken by Charlotte's Cyril
- 24:14Strangler. When Henry Louise, wall has
- 24:17confessed to these events, he admitted that his motivation was
- 24:20driven by robbery, to get money for his addiction to cocaine.
- 24:24And that he I planned to kill her Wallace as he did.
- 24:27So many times before had attempted to hug his victim,
- 24:30prior to administering his Infamous choke hold.
- 24:33But, apparently, Vanessa was not interested in hugging him.
- 24:37So when she turned her back to honor his frequent request for a
- 24:40drink, he pulled out a pillowcase, he brought with him
- 24:44and wrapped it tightly around her neck.
- 24:46When Vanessa resisted, he placed more pressure around her neck
- 24:50and told her that she was being robbed.
- 24:52He pulled her into her bedroom and demanded that she hand over
- 24:56all of her money, including her ATM card alone with the pain.
- 25:01Henry, Louise Wallace, then forced her to take off her
- 25:03clothes and have sex with him as we have heard from this
- 25:07perpetrator before, he told her to get dressed and when she did,
- 25:12he tightened the pillowcase again around her neck, this time
- 25:15adding an additional piece of clothing to squeeze it even
- 25:19tighter until she stopped breathing.
- 25:22Wallace went into the baby's room who had awakened and waited
- 25:26until the child fell asleep before leaving later
- 25:29investigators, were discovered that Vanessa Mac had given him
- 25:32the incorrect information about her ATM card.
- 25:36Since he had attempted several times without success to
- 25:39retrieve money with it. Murderous 7, Betty baucom only a
- 25:44few weeks later on. March, 19. 1994 Betty baucom.
- 25:48Who is the assistant manager? At a Bojangles restaurant.
- 25:51Never showed up for her. Left.
- 25:53Jeffrey Ellis, who was her boss. Their attempted several times to
- 25:57reach her without any response. He eventually reached out to her
- 26:00co-workers and then to her mother, none of whom had heard
- 26:04from Buddy. The next day, when Betty did not
- 26:07appear at work again, Allison, a concerned co-worker drove over
- 26:11to her apartment, they knocked on the door and even looked in
- 26:14the windows but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
- 26:17So they left her boss. Reached out to Betty's mother
- 26:20again, who still had not her back from her daughter so
- 26:23together, they decided to call the police and report.
- 26:26Her Officially Missing Betty became would be found lying face
- 26:30down on her bed with a towel wrapped around her neck by an
- 26:33officer at the scene. When dr.
- 26:36Sullivan performed. This autopsy, it was apparent
- 26:39that another young woman had suffered from blunt force trauma
- 26:42and strangulation at the hands of the Sierra perpetrator this
- 26:47time. However, there were clear signs
- 26:48of a real struggle between the victim and her killer.
- 26:52There were abrasions on her left shoulder.
- 26:54Her arms, the upper right part of her chest, her abdomen and an
- 26:58injury to the Head. The autopsy also revealed that
- 27:02blood had built up inside her lungs.
- 27:04There's enlargement of the Brain and small hemorrhages in the
- 27:07front of her neck and the lining of the voice box.
- 27:11This victim had done everything possible to stop her murderer,
- 27:15but sadly, she could not Henry Lee wheeze.
- 27:18Wallace later told investigators how he went to bed, he becomes
- 27:21housed. Under the guise of using her
- 27:23phone. They chatted for a while and
- 27:25we'll Wallace got ready to leave.
- 27:27He put her in a Chokehold to what she then fell to the floor.
- 27:31He demanded her alarm code, her car keys and the combination to
- 27:35the safe Bojangles after 30 minutes of maintaining the
- 27:39Chokehold on her. She gave in and she was
- 27:42released. She asked him why he did that to
- 27:45her and according to Wallace, he told Betty that he was a sick
- 27:48person and that he had caused harm to many other people.
- 27:53Betty balcombe returned, his admission of guilt by hugging
- 27:57him. She told him that she forgave
- 28:00him but that he needed help. This triggered a rage inside
- 28:05Wallace and he slammed Betty to the floor with his hand on her
- 28:09throat and a struggle ensued. Can we pulled Betty to her feet
- 28:14and told her to take her clothes off?
- 28:16She told him that she had a medical problem, a rash and that
- 28:19she did not want to undress, he then demanded that she perform
- 28:22oral sex on him. Betty grabbed his penis and
- 28:25started to pull on it and scratch out him, she managed to
- 28:29rip her teeth into his shoulder and leave scratches on his
- 28:32stomach. Henry, Louis Wallace.
- 28:35Then grabbed a towel and strangled her with it until she
- 28:38had almost passed out. He forcibly removed her clothes
- 28:41and raped her place. The towel back around her neck
- 28:45and asked her for money. Betty gave Wallace the money.
- 28:49She had her purse and then he strangled her, he ripped off the
- 28:53gold chain. She adorned around her neck,
- 28:55stole her TV and vcr and took off in her car later, he would
- 29:01return to Betty's apartment too. Ensure that she was in fact dead
- 29:06while he was there. He carefully and methodically
- 29:09wiped off all his fingerprints from the phone, the doorknob and
- 29:13the wall where they had fought, he drove around in her vehicle
- 29:16for two days, but then he became paranoid that officers were
- 29:20watching him. So he decided to leave in the
- 29:22parking lot of her apartment complex.
- 29:24However, before Henley Louise Wallace abandoned the vehicle,
- 29:29he cleaned off the majority of the interior and exterior of the
- 29:32car, but he Forgot one important detail, he neglected to wipe
- 29:37down the lid of the trunk as his murders.
- 29:40Escalated his patterns and motifs up around.
- 29:43I continue to increase in erratic behavior and some may
- 29:47say he became careless disorganized and sloppy.
- 29:53Murder 8, Brandy Henderson. Brandy Henderson was a young
- 29:58mother to a 10-month a little boy.
- 30:00TW with her boyfriend. For nests Lamar Woods on the
- 30:03night of March 9th, 1994 Brandi would be left alone in her
- 30:07apartment with Henry, Louis Wallace to meet her untimely
- 30:11demise earlier that day. Well said, visited the family
- 30:15told them that he was leaving town for a while and then left
- 30:18shortly afterwards for nessa's boyfriend, left for work around
- 30:225:00 that evening. And when he returned around
- 30:24midnight, he found their Apartments door was unlocked.
- 30:28When he entered objects have been thrown around the living
- 30:30room area and the stereo was gone immediately concerned.
- 30:34He rushed his infant son's bedroom and turn on the light
- 30:38inside for nest discovered in horror, his child struggling to
- 30:41breathe, a pair of shorts, have been wrapped tightly around the
- 30:44little boy's neck, and he was gagging on some kind of white
- 30:47material. He then noticed that, Brandy his
- 30:51girlfriend, then the mother of his son, Was lying face down on
- 30:54the bed, one of our Nest rolled Brandy over there were towels,
- 30:58tied around her neck and her face, it turned blue.
- 31:02He freed her from the towels are restricting.
- 31:04Her windpipe and immediately began to perform CPR with the
- 31:07help. From a 911, operator,
- 31:10unfortunately help arrived too late.
- 31:13The young mother was deceased, and her infant son, rushed to
- 31:16the hospital. All of the child TW had stable
- 31:20vitals his brain functioning had become Compromised due to the
- 31:24lack of blood flow from the ligature thankfully within, half
- 31:28an hour, the little boy gradually became more alert and
- 31:31engage with his environment. At least, there were some good
- 31:35news for Brandy's family, the autopsy on his mother would
- 31:39reveal evidence of strangulation and minor blunt force trauma.
- 31:43Just like the other victims before her.
- 31:46Henry, Louis Wallace admitted to having planned Brandi's murder
- 31:51and how he had expected executed that morning.
- 31:54But since her boyfriend Furness was there he abandoned his
- 31:57original plans and murdered Betty baucom instead he would
- 32:02later return to Brandis apartment to commit.
- 32:05Her murder that same night as most of Wallace's killings would
- 32:09unfold. He and the victim hung out for a
- 32:11while. And when he asked for a drink,
- 32:14he took her by surprise Seen her in a Chokehold and instructed
- 32:18her to go to the bedroom when he told her, that he was there to
- 32:22rob her and demanded her money. Brandi offered him a Pringles
- 32:25can which hold about $20 of coins inside Brandi begged
- 32:30walls, to let her hold and comfort, her son TW, she held
- 32:34her so close to her chest and turned his small head to the
- 32:37side. So he would not see Wallace
- 32:40forcing himself upon her when TW began to cry, they went to the
- 32:45child's bedroom too. Continue having sex with her
- 32:47son. Still lying upon her chest.
- 32:50After he assaulted Brandi Wallace grabbed a towel to wipe
- 32:53everything down. He then rolled at the toe and
- 32:55proceeded to twist it around her neck strangling, her her limp
- 33:00body fell to the floor Wallace. Picked her up and place your
- 33:04body on the bed with her child. TW the child continue to wail
- 33:10Wallace initially, tried to find something to stop him from
- 33:12crying at first. He attempted to stop his cries
- 33:15with his past. A fire and then look to find him
- 33:18something to drink, he couldn't find anything.
- 33:21So instead he grabbed a towel and wrap it tightly around the
- 33:24infant's neck, the little boy TW had stopped crying now and laid
- 33:29down next to his mom's dead body before, leaving the scene of the
- 33:33crime Wallace, told her stereo and TV some delivery food and
- 33:40the Pringles container of coins murder 9, Deborah Slaughter.
- 33:46Only three days after the murder of Brandy Henderson.
- 33:48The talkable Strangler of Charlotte would strike again
- 33:53after arriving to her apartment to return.
- 33:54A photo to her daughter, the mother of Deborah Slaughter
- 33:57found the door unlocked. She discovered her daughter's
- 34:00body lying on the floor and called 911 upon entry to the
- 34:05scene. The officer saw a purse with its
- 34:07contents thrown around the floor.
- 34:09The young woman had a piece of white fabric which was later
- 34:12identified to be a sock shopped into her.
- 34:15A mouth and a towel had been used to strangle her.
- 34:18There were also multiple stab wounds visible to her chest, the
- 34:22autopsy a few days later would reveal the same modus operandi
- 34:27of strangulation and blunt force trauma, as his other victims,
- 34:31as, in the case of body baucom, this victim had also been
- 34:34stabbed. However, there was a noticeable
- 34:37escalation. It needs cess of Miss of
- 34:39violence used as evidenced by the number of wounds, this woman
- 34:43had been stabbed 38 Eight times, which indicated increase in the
- 34:48level of Rage, the perpetrator had inflicted upon his victim.
- 34:53What initially appeared to be a simple visit to Deborah
- 34:55Slaughters house to partake in some mutual drug use turned much
- 35:00darker. While in Henry, Louise Wallace
- 35:02is presence. Deborah had expressed to Henry
- 35:05that she did not have the funds to purchase drugs since she
- 35:08needed to stretch her cash throughout the week.
- 35:12Once again, like he seemed to choreograph each time Wallace
- 35:15asked for a drink from his victim, then without any
- 35:18warning, he ambushed ever taking a towel.
- 35:20He had brought along with him and wrapped it tightly around
- 35:23her neck. The victim fell to her knees
- 35:27according to Wallace, Deborah had just put the pieces together
- 35:30and realize that he was the one who killed the two girls in the
- 35:34neighboring apartment. When Wallace demanded that, she
- 35:36take her clothes off, and perform oral sex on him.
- 35:40She told them that she does not do Ooh, that.
- 35:42And that he may as well just kill her as he tightened.
- 35:45The grip upon the towel. He asked, if she wanted to
- 35:48change her mind but Debra refused, he then raped her.
- 35:53And when he remembered that, she always carried a knife on her.
- 35:56He asked her to empty out her purse Wallace.
- 35:59Kicked the knife to the side and demanded.
- 36:01She gave him everything inside her wallet.
- 36:04Deborah struck out at him and screamed out for help.
- 36:06He squeezed the Tau tighter around her neck, until she
- 36:09collapsed to the floor and began.
- 36:11Kicking at him, while his brought another towel back from
- 36:14the bathroom and tied it to the one around her neck.
- 36:18Then he picked up her knife and stabbed Deborah in the stomach
- 36:22repeatedly. He then went to her sink rinse,
- 36:27the blood and his fingerprints off of the knife and laid it
- 36:31with the rest of the items from her purse on the floor.
- 36:35Henry, Louise Wallace left to purchase, some crack cocaine and
- 36:38the return to Deborah's apartment and smoked it there.
- 36:44Now, prior to Betty becomes body being discovered detectives have
- 36:47begun to see common threads between the homicide victims,
- 36:50Brandy Henderson, and Vanessa Mac.
- 36:53Both victims were our young African American females from
- 36:57working, their class backgrounds.
- 36:59And there have been no evidence of forced entry, this indicated
- 37:03that they most likely knew their perpetrator and possibly even
- 37:07trusted the person strangulation by the use of ligatures, were
- 37:11found to be the case of both deaths at last on March 10th.
- 37:151994 investigators will come together to collaborate on these
- 37:20seemingly related, murders. It was then that they realized
- 37:24Was another victim Betty baucom whose murder shared similar
- 37:28traits to Max. And Henderson's, when the
- 37:32families and friends of the victims were asked by homicide
- 37:35investigators, who would have been welcomed into these ladies
- 37:38Apartments? They spotted a common name when
- 37:44detectives joined forces with one another on who all the
- 37:46victims. Knew a light Shone upon their
- 37:49investigation. They had attempted without
- 37:51success to string together, the murders by known relation.
- 37:54Bishop's to each other, but none of the women appeared to be
- 37:57directly acquainted. Instead, through shared
- 38:01information by the police, it was discovered that there was an
- 38:04individual all victims have in common Henry, Louis Wallace, two
- 38:10of his victims, Shawna Hawk and Audrey.
- 38:12Spain had worked at Taco Bell at different times under the same
- 38:16manager who had been Henry, Louis Wallace, Michelle Stenson
- 38:20was a regular customer at Taco Bell and would often make small
- 38:24talk with him. Valencia jumper was known to be
- 38:27friends with Henry's younger sister.
- 38:28Yvonne, Vanessa Mac was one of his former girlfriend sisters
- 38:33Betty baucom was a friend of his girlfriend Sadie McKnight.
- 38:36Brandy Henderson was the girlfriend of one of Henry's
- 38:39friends for nests, Lamar Woods who informed.
- 38:42The police, the Henry often came to visit with Brandi.
- 38:45Well, he was gonna work. Caroline love was his
- 38:49girlfriend's roommate Henry Louise.
- 38:51Wallace's girlfriend, CD McKnight was initially very shy.
- 38:55Shocked and in disbelief over Henry being a suspected serial
- 38:59killer. However, once you put the pieces
- 39:02together, she saw how, this could be true Henry had been
- 39:06taking trophies from his victims, like Rings, bracelets
- 39:10and necklaces, and giving them to his girlfriend.
- 39:14CD it. Dawned on her that she had been
- 39:17wearing jewelry from some of her murdered girlfriends.
- 39:22When Betty becomes vehicle was located on March 11th and 94 a
- 39:26palm print was found on the trunk lid since Henry.
- 39:29Louis Wallace was now deemed a viable suspect.
- 39:32They compared his fingerprints to the palm print and the crime.
- 39:35Lab found a match. There was already an outstanding
- 39:39warrant for larceny charge on him.
- 39:41So the police began an extensive search for Henry.
- 39:44Louise Wallace when Deborah Slaughters body was found on
- 39:48March 12th. The investigators learned that
- 39:50the crime scene. Exhibited similar elements to
- 39:53all three of their other victims.
- 39:55Eames that same evening the perpetrator would be arrested on
- 39:58his outstanding. Warrant investigators finally
- 40:01had their primary suspect in custody Henry, Louis Wallace,
- 40:07stood, six, feet tall, weighed around 200 pounds and had a
- 40:10pleasant round smiling face. Adorned in glasses.
- 40:14So he was not an intimidating character.
- 40:17He was known for his Intelligence being kind and
- 40:19helpful and had 11 May referred to as a big teddy bear appeal.
- 40:25Investigators were taken back by how calm polite intelligent kind
- 40:31and non-threatening. This suspected serial killer was
- 40:36investigator. Tony Rice of
- 40:38Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD conducted the interview with
- 40:41Wallace whom he apparently already knew when detective rice
- 40:45inquired about walls his girlfriend stating McKnight
- 40:47Henry became upset and emotional and begged to be able to see
- 40:52her. Detective rice told him that he
- 40:55would see what he could do. If Wallace would talk to him, he
- 40:59then prayed with Wallace, who cried during the prayer and
- 41:03afterwards, wrote down all of the women.
- 41:05He had murdered over 10 hours of recorded, confessions of the
- 41:11homicides, Henry, Louis Wallace committed, he would provide to
- 41:16the police including very specific details of each case.
- 41:22The police informed him during questioning that they had in
- 41:24their possession evidence which directly connected him to the
- 41:29scene of the crimes, the police had images of him on the ATM
- 41:33camera attempting, use banessa max, ATM card and the palm print
- 41:37he left behind on the trunk lid of Betty becomes vehicle.
- 41:42Henry, Louise Wallace within a few hours confessed to killing.
- 41:46Love Hawk. Spain, jumper, Stenson Mac
- 41:52baucom Henderson and Slaughter. With the goal of preserving
- 41:59Henry. Louise Wallace's life, the
- 42:01defense counsel was formidable in their approach of building a
- 42:04case around his mental state in particular Colonel.
- 42:08Robert key wrestler from the FBI's Behavioral Science unit,
- 42:12who coined the term serial killer and doctor and W.
- 42:17Burg has a specialist and psychosocial development
- 42:20testified to the psychological state of the defendant.
- 42:24Kono wrestler, testified that he believed Henry, Louise Wallace's
- 42:28use of organizational and dis organizational.
- 42:31Elements of the crimes were indicative of his being
- 42:34psychologically, unstable, dr. Berg has testified that Wallace
- 42:40was incapable of deciphering reality from fantasy.
- 42:44What she believed was due to his suffering from a mental health
- 42:47condition. However, all of his defense,
- 42:50counsel's efforts were in vain, on January, Evans 1997, all 12
- 42:56jurors would find the defendant Henry.
- 42:58Louise Wallace guilty on all nine counts of first-degree
- 43:01murder based on the malice premeditation and deliberation
- 43:05of each crime. He was also found guilty on
- 43:08several other charges including but not exclusive to
- 43:11first-degree rape robbery with a dangerous weapon and they
- 43:15attempted murder for the strangulation of TW.
- 43:18Brandi, Henderson's 10 month, old son, three weeks later, the
- 43:23jury. He made a recommendation of the
- 43:25death penalty for his sentence, which the judge agreed to.
- 43:30He sentence, Henry Louise, Wallace, 29, death sentences for
- 43:34each woman's life. He had taken now, under our
- 43:38constitution, it is an absolutely mandatory right.
- 43:42That any person given a sentence of the death penalty is
- 43:45automatically given the right to appeal after he was convicted
- 43:50Henry, Louise Wallace, argued that his constitutional rights
- 43:53of Due process protected, under the fifth and fourteenth
- 43:57amendments and his rights to notice.
- 43:59And trial by jury under the Sixth had all been violated.
- 44:04The appellant that is the defendant in the Appellate case,
- 44:08argued that the short form indictments violated these
- 44:11Amendment. Since they did not differentiate
- 44:14between first-degree fences and that of second-degree the
- 44:18Supreme Court of North Carolina disagreed with us and pointed
- 44:21out that the nine indictments for murder held.
- 44:24The same language which was modified to fit each specific
- 44:27murder, he committed with different dates of the homicides
- 44:31and different names of his victims.
- 44:34The jury found as described by first-degree homicide they Henry
- 44:38Louise Wallace had unlawfully willfully and feloniously and of
- 44:43malice aforethought killed and murdered each individual victim.
- 44:49The appellant also attempted to argue that his rights were
- 44:51violated by the pre-trial. Publicity which created
- 44:55Prejudice and provoked, rage in the community who represented
- 44:59the jury members Henry, Louis Wallace requested that the trial
- 45:04court change of venue on a minimum of three different
- 45:07occasions, all which he was denied.
- 45:11The appellant further claimed that his rights were violated
- 45:14since he was manipulated and tricked into giving a
- 45:17confession. Since the investigator, told him
- 45:19that he could see his girlfriend, Katie McKnight.
- 45:22If he talked to him about the crimes, this argument was also
- 45:28denied by the Supreme Court of North Carolina.
- 45:30Who disagreed that any of his rights during interrogation had
- 45:33violated, he had been read his Miranda, Rights was given food
- 45:37and drink the opportunity to use the restroom and was I rented
- 45:41several hours to sleep before seeing the judge his attempts to
- 45:45overturn his conviction and fusses death penalty sentence
- 45:49had been unsuccessful. Although met with great
- 45:53resistance, Henry, Louise Wallace would eventually confess
- 45:56to the first girl, he murdered back in his hometown a Barnwell.
- 46:01South Carolina in 1992 Shonda Bethea was only 17 years old.
- 46:07When Wallace took her life on March 18th 1990.
- 46:12Wallace was driving down the road when he spotted a young
- 46:15girl walking, he confessed to how he picked her up, took her
- 46:18to an isolated spot in the woods, raped her at gunpoint
- 46:22strangled, her cut, her wrists and throat, and then disposed of
- 46:26her body in the pond. He also confessed to murdering a
- 46:31sex worker named Sharon Nance. In Charlotte, North Carolina in
- 46:35May 1992 but very few details around this case.
- 46:39From any legitimate resource could be uncovered, although
- 46:43never proven to be true Henry Louise Wallace claims to have
- 46:48killed women all over the world. Why on his different ports of
- 46:52call in the Navy at the thirties estimate?
- 46:55That the accurate number of his victims is close to 20.
- 46:59With the only death row unit in North Carolina being in Raleigh
- 47:03Wallace. Now calls Central Prison his
- 47:05forever home, although it should be shocking to hear.
- 47:09We all know how murderers and rapists have their fangirls and
- 47:12Fanboys. And while serving his sentence
- 47:15in Central Prison Henry, Louise Wallace found himself a new
- 47:19bride in 1998, a former prisoners named Rebecca Tobias,
- 47:24whom he had met in 1994 shortly after being arrested for the
- 47:28murders, Mary. Him in a small room next to the
- 47:30death chamber although they have never been allowed to consummate
- 47:34their marriage, Rebecca frequently visits him.
- 47:38Now this particular case has found itself under deep scrutiny
- 47:41for its investigation, from the perspective of both shoddy
- 47:45police work and law. Enforcement's neglect for a
- 47:47marginalized group of victims. This investigation was under
- 47:51heavy criticism by both the media and the public Personally,
- 47:57I think that it would be too easy to blame law enforcement
- 48:00for not catching the serial killer sooner due to a racist,
- 48:03police force, or neglectful investigators, for ignoring the
- 48:07obvious connections, the victim shared, and the clear patterns
- 48:10of the perpetrator. Why you may wonder do I say this
- 48:14because the reality of the circumstances of the case are
- 48:18much more complicated in this and should not be pushed aside.
- 48:23With only seven investigator, spread thin across an Ever
- 48:27growing Metropolitan City, the police force were not.
- 48:31Well versed in serial killers, complex, modus operandi, and
- 48:35we're not equipped to handle either of them.
- 48:38Each murder had been treated as an isolated crime with a
- 48:42different investigator on each one.
- 48:45The investigators did not communicate with one another on
- 48:48the cases. So any potential similarities
- 48:51between them or not known? Just the details of each
- 48:55killings were not being shared. Another main reason why police
- 49:00failed to see any connections even after finally, getting the
- 49:04FBI involved, is that the modus operandi of Henley Reeves
- 49:07Wallace did not fit within the profile of meal serial killers
- 49:12studies on the differences between female serial killers
- 49:15versus male. Serial killers have revealed a
- 49:18hunter versus gatherer approach. Men who are serial murderers.
- 49:23Almost always follow the hunter profile, they watch from afar
- 49:27stock and capture their prey who are predominantly strangers, not
- 49:31people within their personal life or whom they know very
- 49:34well, female serial killers on the other hand.
- 49:38Our gatherers, they learn in those closest around them
- 49:41manipulate and methodically murder victims through this
- 49:45lens. One can understand how the
- 49:47crimes were not have been immediately linked because his
- 49:51victims were his close, friends, acquaintances and even
- 49:55co-workers male. Serial killers don't typically
- 49:59kill people within their immediate circle.
- 50:02This is an extremely rare modus operandi for a male serial
- 50:06killer In addition, especially at this time, it was unheard of
- 50:11for an African-American man to be a serial killer.
- 50:15They had all up to this point believed to have been white.
- 50:19Men statistics have shown only the results of studies vary the
- 50:24serial killers, who are African-American represent
- 50:26somewhere between 13 to 20 percent.
- 50:30This demographic of a serial murderer is much higher than the
- 50:33media acknowledges them to be, which undoubtedly has an impact.
- 50:37Act upon the perception and actions of law enforcement in a
- 50:42study done in 2004. There were at least 130 African
- 50:46American serial killers who are identified within the past
- 50:50Century, yet very little of them are mentioned in the media
- 50:54sources of literature and film both fictional and documentary
- 50:58and they are rarely the focus of research or case studies.
- 51:03Henry Lee Lewis Wallace's pattern of hunting was wildly
- 51:07different, from the traditional profile of a male serial killer,
- 51:11who typically Prey Upon strangers and choose their
- 51:14victims away from their personal, intimate Social
- 51:16Circles. In the case of Henry, Louise
- 51:20Wallace, he directly knew all of his victims, some even
- 51:24intimately, and they all lived and worked with only a few miles
- 51:29of where he lived. It is also important to discuss
- 51:32and view this case through a lens of criminology.
- 51:35In particular, the life experiences motivations and
- 51:39triggers of the perpetrator in no way does an abusive or
- 51:44deprave childhood condone the actions of anyone who Mises
- 51:48others. It can though, help to shine a
- 51:51light upon their upbringing, their mental state and life
- 51:54circumstances which can provoke a perpetrators offenses,
- 51:59understanding how a person's background and the chapters in
- 52:03their life, have helped to shape and influence them in.
- 52:05Their crimes is extremely important to help identify their
- 52:09character traits warning, signs and behavior.
- 52:13Extensive research has revealed that abuse neglect and an
- 52:18unhealthy exposure to sex and, or violence, or common factor
- 52:22shared across serial killers. Henry, Louis.
- 52:25Wallace was born on November 4th, 1965 and Barnwell, South
- 52:30Carolina. He grew up in an exceptionally
- 52:33poor living conditions. His mother was better and
- 52:37tainted by her own, life's sorrows, and disappointments,
- 52:41and she exerted her own pain. And Anger on to Henry and his
- 52:45older sister Yvonne Henry's mother had given birth to and
- 52:48raised both of her children on her own.
- 52:50Since their father, was a married, High School teacher,
- 52:53their home had no running water or electricity, their source of
- 52:58water, including that for drinking came from a pump.
- 53:01Well, the restroom was an old Watershed would chamber pots,
- 53:06which Henry was given at the chore of disposing of daily
- 53:10along with his mother. He and his sister Also lived
- 53:13with his grandmother and great-grandmother.
- 53:16The women in Henry's life were harsh disciplinarian.
- 53:21They beat berated and chastise Henry, as a taller, when he had
- 53:26an accident in his pants, which left him petrified, this often
- 53:31led to him having more accidents and then doing his best to cover
- 53:36it up. Henry, and his sister Yvonne
- 53:39both were spanked by switches, which their mother forced them
- 53:42to select and on her really bad days.
- 53:46She forced them to beat one another with the whips.
- 53:50According to a pre-sentence investigation report Henry,
- 53:53claimed that his mother had sex with various men in the house in
- 53:57front of him. She also exposed him to explicit
- 54:00pornography and True Crime. Detective magazines, which some
- 54:04psychiatrist believe had a negative impact upon his
- 54:07psychological health and sexual abuse towards women.
- 54:11Henry's older years were pretty much normal and uneventful.
- 54:15He achieved mediocre grades, but was well liked by both teachers
- 54:19and His fellow classmates. He had been forbidden by his
- 54:22mother to play football. So he became a cheerleader
- 54:25instead. It's 6 feet tall Henry could
- 54:28have been the brunt of many jokes out on the field but the
- 54:31opposite was said to be true the entire School.
- 54:34Praised him for his fun attitude and Imagination and the
- 54:38cheerleaders praised him for how polite and positive he was after
- 54:43graduation higher education did not fare well for him.
- 54:46So he found his way into the radio Studio naming himself.
- 54:49The Knight Rider at a local radio station apparently he was
- 54:54very well received and it may have been the beginning of a
- 54:57positive career path for Henry. But he was fired for stealing
- 55:01CDs this pattern of theft and deceit would increasingly become
- 55:06more of a staple and Henry Louise Wallace's life.
- 55:11Shortly after and 1984 Henry Louise Wallace decided to enlist
- 55:16in the US Navy and would be active for eight years.
- 55:19Interestingly enough, he had found his place in the military
- 55:23being called an outstanding Seaman by his fellow crewmen.
- 55:26They said, he was obedient compliant diligent with his
- 55:30duties and was highly intelligent.
- 55:32However, in 1992, his success screeched to a halt when he was
- 55:37caught breaking and entering near the Naval Base.
- 55:40He was Allowed to leave an honorable discharge.
- 55:43Despite this fact since prior to this incident, he had had a
- 55:47perfect record. During this time, he had also
- 55:50fallen in love with and married. A girl who had a child from a
- 55:53previous relationship. Wish he had embraced as his own,
- 55:57Henry was devastated. When his wife mereta left him
- 56:00once? He was discharged from the Navy,
- 56:02his life was piling up with disappointments, sorrow,
- 56:06failures and pain left with few options, Henry, To Charlotte,
- 56:11North Carolina to live with his mother and sister.
- 56:14He turned to drugs, more and more as a release from his pain
- 56:18of losing mereta and wasting a promising future in the Navy.
- 56:23It is noted in studies how Henry Louise Wallace fell apart in his
- 56:27modus operandi, becoming increasingly more disorganized
- 56:31and erratic, which led to his being caught.
- 56:35The roots of this have been linked to the escalation of his
- 56:37addiction to crack cocaine. His dependents are Narcotics
- 56:41caused him to be less methodical and not as careful when cleaning
- 56:44up the crime scene to conceal, his presence as he had done.
- 56:48So it is really a crimes. Unlike some of his first victims
- 56:52whom he would bathe or redress in his later killings he was
- 56:57sloppy neglectful and left evidence behind which would link
- 57:01him to the homicides. It was also observed that as his
- 57:06murders continued, he chose women who were larger, which
- 57:09according to wall has made them more Troublesome since they were
- 57:13stronger and resisted harder, this likely impacted his methods
- 57:17and approach and taking their lives, which led to more
- 57:20brutality being implemented and their deaths before him.
- 57:25We Louise Wallace was caught, he murdered three women within 72
- 57:30hours, which is an almost unheard of timeframe for A
- 57:33Killers to accumulate victims. These murders were conducted in
- 57:38a way of a spree killer. Instead of a calculated serial
- 57:42killer this realistically increase the likelihood that has
- 57:46been found to make himself even more prone to being captured by
- 57:50law enforcement to of these three victims lived within the
- 57:55same apartment complex. Henry's drug, you seem to have
- 58:00pushed his rage towards women that I've been brewing inside
- 58:03him for years, over the edge. A murderer who had once been
- 58:08extremely organized diligent and highly methodical have become an
- 58:13unhinged Maniac who left evidence everywhere.
- 58:18Henry Louise Wallace was either so arrogant that he thought he
- 58:22would never get caught or he was so consumed by his hatred of
- 58:26women that his actions could. No longer be applied with any
- 58:30Russian out or calculation. Wallace also said that when he
- 58:36was a young man, he was sexually used by several women in his
- 58:39community. Psychiatrist believed that he
- 58:43was so severely desperate for love and affection that he
- 58:47accepted this exploitation since it was a form of attention.
- 58:53It seems pretty obvious that except for his relationship with
- 58:56his sister, there was nothing positive or nurturing about the
- 59:00women who had dictated Henry's life.
- 59:04Wallace was diagnosed with sexual disorders, depression and
- 59:08a personality disorder. He admitted to a psychologist
- 59:12that he committed upwards of 100 rapes during his lifetime.
- 59:18Please note that I am not a licensed therapist or
- 59:21psychiatrist but my degree and the coursework I took in sex.
- 59:25Crimes exposed me to a lot of pertinent information.
- 59:29In this area, research has shown that rapist more often than not,
- 59:34come from backgrounds of abuse, both emotionally, and physically
- 59:38and violence is present within their home versus other kinds of
- 59:43sex. Offenders crime.
- 59:44Reports have also indicated that they come in a wide.
- 59:48Righty of criminal acts in particular, thefts and robbery
- 59:52which are often connected to their drug.
- 59:54Use a famous typology of rapist is found in growths 1979 study,
- 1:00:01which identified three kinds of rapists.
- 1:00:04Growths theory is that rape contains three, primary elements
- 1:00:08being power, anger and sexuality.
- 1:00:12Which determine the three. Distinct kinds power rapist use
- 1:00:16sexuality as a way to communicate.
- 1:00:18Kate possession power and control.
- 1:00:22Anger. Rapist use sexuality in a
- 1:00:24hostile Manner and sadistic rapists, often used both
- 1:00:27violence and sex in a way that the combination of the two is
- 1:00:31what turns them on, no of these primary type apologies for
- 1:00:36rapists. Based on how Henry, Louise
- 1:00:38Wallace described, his own motivation.
- 1:00:41In addition, to the circumstances of each crime, it
- 1:00:44appears that Wallace fits within anger retaliatory, Also referred
- 1:00:49to as the Revenge rapist. This type of individual utilizes
- 1:00:53rape as a way to convey their hostility towards women.
- 1:00:57They view rape through the lens of Justified punishment and use
- 1:01:01it to calm the rage. This type of sex crime, offender
- 1:01:05tends to be physically violent and is considered the most rare
- 1:01:09of the three typology. He's It was suggested by Henry
- 1:01:14psychiatrist that the abuse he suffered from women his whole
- 1:01:17life distorted his psychological development to the extent, but
- 1:01:22he justified his vicious acts against them with the belief
- 1:01:25that he was their victim. It has been reported that Henry
- 1:01:30even referred to himself more than once as a male Avenger who
- 1:01:34would righted the wrongs done to him and other men by women.
- 1:01:39Henry, Louis Wallace said that he was driven primarily by
- 1:01:43sexual gratification power and control.
- 1:01:48Although he was a serial killer, he was first a rapist.
- 1:01:52And for this reason a criminological profile of the
- 1:01:55kind of rapist. He is is crucial to understand
- 1:01:59his motivations and how in his own mind Henry Louise Wallace
- 1:02:04Justified his behavior at the end of the day.
- 1:02:09Henry Louis Wallace is completely responsible for his
- 1:02:12own actions, but all of these variables which help to manifest
- 1:02:17his rage And Trigger his violent and homicidal Behavior should
- 1:02:22not be ignored. No one except Wallace knows if
- 1:02:26something. Or someone could have
- 1:02:28potentially shifted the direction of his violent path.
- 1:02:33He placed a veil over, countless people's eyes in his life and
- 1:02:38tricked them into believing. He was someone they could trust.
- 1:02:42But from what we know of him as a child and as a young man, he
- 1:02:47was that type of person. Henry was known for being kind
- 1:02:53intelligent and gentle with others but things change with
- 1:02:57his drug abuse, depression and rage taking him into the darkest
- 1:03:03depths of humanity in his own words.
- 1:03:06He said there was a good Henry and a bad Henry, it is critical
- 1:03:12that we as a society pay attention to signs of someone
- 1:03:15who is suffering from depression from drug addiction and who is
- 1:03:19patterns of Lynch and criminal activity throughout their life.
- 1:03:24It should be a community requirement.
- 1:03:26That if we see or even think that a child is suffering from
- 1:03:30violence and abuse in their home that we take action to ensure
- 1:03:34that child is safe in spirit mind and body.
- 1:03:38No one thing or one person is to blame for these tragic deaths
- 1:03:43except for the literal hands of Henry, Louise Wallace but I
- 1:03:48can't help but think this person could have been saved from their
- 1:03:53Darkness. Thank you so much for listening.
- 1:03:57I appreciate your being here with me and I am beyond thrilled
- 1:04:01to be your host. Please feel free to let me know
- 1:04:04your thoughts and feelings on this perpetrator and this case,
- 1:04:08what do you believe led to so many women be murdered before
- 1:04:11the perpetrator was caught was it that law enforcement was
- 1:04:15incompetent and inexperienced were these young
- 1:04:19African-American women going missing and murdered not being
- 1:04:22prioritized or was it the complicated?
- 1:04:25David and uncommon modus operandi of Henry, Louise
- 1:04:29Wallace that led to all of these women being killed before.
- 1:04:32He could be discovered and stopped until next time, stay
