- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered story in The Herald Today Karen
- 0:20Speaker 1: Gregian and uh Andrew Callahan. Yeah, I believe teams paid
- 0:24Speaker 1: a lot of people criticizing Mac all season about his
- 0:27Speaker 1: behavior and all that. Don't make me do this. Don't
- 0:30Speaker 1: make me do this. I was Dearrolovsky on Mac Jones
- 0:32Speaker 1: this year National Media. I was current Warner on on
- 0:35Speaker 1: Mac Jones this year. All really killing Mac or killing
- 0:38Speaker 1: the offense? Well, kill the offense but both No, yeah, no,
- 0:43Speaker 1: And I just wanted to point out an error in
- 0:45Speaker 1: Mike's draft analysis. Don't look at top flight tackles to
- 0:48Speaker 1: take at fourteen, look at mid round tackles to take
- 0:51Speaker 1: at fourteen instead. Thanks Even Jayalen hurts like an absolutely
- 0:55Speaker 1: see down. Hey, Mike, Remember I asked none of them
- 1:00Speaker 1: going down rabbit holes on YouTube about physics, and that
- 1:04Speaker 1: was just like you said, going I thought that was
- 1:06Speaker 1: going on another direction. But anyway, this is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 1:10Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan all right. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It's
- 1:16Speaker 1: Tuesday here at Gilette Stadium, and we've got a lot
- 1:19Speaker 1: to talk about from the Shrine Bowl and the Patriots
- 1:22Speaker 1: coaches out there, and of course the Patriots content team
- 1:25Speaker 1: to the games this weekend and referees, Paul's favorite subject,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and injuries, injuries and quarterbacks and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It's good. It's a lot to talk about, so and
- 1:38Speaker 1: only three of us to do it. Yeah, it's Deuce,
- 1:40Speaker 1: it's Paul and myself, Evans out there. Tamara's out out
- 1:44Speaker 1: there all right in Vegas covering the Shrine Bowl. So
- 1:48Speaker 1: let's let's start with that. I guess right sure, I'm
- 1:50Speaker 1: again a little bit of information here with the coaches
- 1:53Speaker 1: and saw they did a miked up with with Brian
- 1:55Speaker 1: Belichick and Troy Brown. That's kind of cool to hear
- 1:58Speaker 1: Brian Belichick talk a little bit before. I never really
- 2:00Speaker 1: heard him on the field. So, yeah, they're pumping things out.
- 2:02Speaker 1: A lot of Zay Flowers content from PC, so a
- 2:05Speaker 1: lot of guys getting attached to him. One of the Yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I mean if if man, if the Patriots don't draft
- 2:10Speaker 1: Zay Flowers, I think they're gonna have a heart attack. Evan.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But I was thinking about. You know, so the Patriots
- 2:16Speaker 1: are control of the west right of that team, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and all the other scouts from other teams are there.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I wonder if they're taking requests like, hey, no, seriously, No,
- 2:26Speaker 1: it was funny the way you said, I'll be taking
- 2:28Speaker 1: requests like, you know, can we see this guy against
- 2:30Speaker 1: this guy Atractice? Can you put him in this? You know?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Are they taking suggestions from other teams? Uh? And and
- 2:37Speaker 1: putting guys in scenario so they can better evaluate. Oh.
- 2:41Speaker 1: One thing I saw yesterday I thought was interesting and
- 2:43Speaker 1: I don't know how dead on it was, but somebody
- 2:45Speaker 1: wrote that the Patriots were kind of working with the
- 2:47Speaker 1: third down scat running back kind of, and the and
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Falcons team coaches were working with kind of the
- 2:52Speaker 1: bigger powerbacks. I don't know if that signals anything, but
- 2:56Speaker 1: I mean I do. I do tie it in a
- 2:57Speaker 1: little bit too, having a long term kind of answer
- 3:00Speaker 1: that third down receiving back. Is that something Bill O'Brien
- 3:03Speaker 1: is looking for as Pierre Strong a potential for that role,
- 3:06Speaker 1: as Tim Montgomery a long term answer there. So that
- 3:08Speaker 1: was a little just at least personnel thing that that
- 3:11Speaker 1: stood out to me. That maybe they were doing a
- 3:12Speaker 1: little bit of that, trying to you know, get an
- 3:14Speaker 1: up close look at some of the guys. Maybe that
- 3:16Speaker 1: they're more interested in Yeah yeah, but you know, like
- 3:20Speaker 1: how much do you tip your hand? Oh? The Patriots
- 3:23Speaker 1: are really looking at you know, they keep using zay
- 3:25Speaker 1: flowers and you know, all these different you know, they
- 3:27Speaker 1: must be interested in them. You know, that's like they
- 3:31Speaker 1: hate that they would never want to tip their hand.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Play cool there on the field. Don't get too excited,
- 3:35Speaker 1: you know. But I don't know. I mean, we talked
- 3:37Speaker 1: a little bit last week. I just I wonder how
- 3:39Speaker 1: it all comes together after this few days of practices
- 3:41Speaker 1: between the Patriot scouts that have already scouted all these
- 3:44Speaker 1: players and probably already have some kind of established opinion
- 3:47Speaker 1: about where they all fall on their board, and then
- 3:50Speaker 1: the coaches have some experience and maybe they say, hey,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I love this kid. What did you guys know, Oh
- 3:54Speaker 1: we didn't really like them, or oh yeah we love
- 3:56Speaker 1: them too. You know what are those conversations like? I
- 3:58Speaker 1: think those are the interesting things. I'm guessing a lot
- 3:59Speaker 1: of them are probably going right to the Senior Bowl,
- 4:01Speaker 1: which is they're doing like heights and waynds today and
- 4:04Speaker 1: I think they're going to do a light practice this afternoon,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but you know they're probably going right to that too.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So I mean you're talking to a week here of
- 4:10Speaker 1: of really jumping into all the staff prospects and everything,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and you know the combine looming just a few weeks away. Yep, yep,
- 4:18Speaker 1: So we'll have our crew out in the combine as well.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Can't wait. Yeah, yeah, let's get back. Yeah. So you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: if you can check out all that content on Patriots
- 4:28Speaker 1: dot com and the Patriots social media accounts as well,
- 4:32Speaker 1: we'll be posting. We've been posting and we'll continue to
- 4:35Speaker 1: post throughout, so good stuff. Yea. Also want to get
- 4:39Speaker 1: on the table the games this weekend because, according to
- 4:42Speaker 1: some fans, NFL's rescuing as you told me. According to
- 4:48Speaker 1: Zach Taylor, Yeah, that was that on the sideline in
- 4:50Speaker 1: the beginning. Yeah, they had they had you know, it
- 4:53Speaker 1: could be bad lip reading. Oh it was a lip reading.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Well they Yeah, they had them talking in saying you know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: it look like it's rigged. Oh and I thought someone
- 5:03Speaker 1: actually caught him down it. Yeah, I could understand if
- 5:05Speaker 1: he said it. Yeah, Um, you know, so uh, you know,
- 5:08Speaker 1: let's talk about that. I you know, the games themselves,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I thought were you know, the first one certainly was disappointing.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I mean you're down to, like, you know, your fourth
- 5:18Speaker 1: quarterback and then he gets hurt and then you have
- 5:20Speaker 1: to bring in Purdy who can't throw the ball, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: so that game was done that you know, that was
- 5:25Speaker 1: that was not a competitive game, as they say, correct,
- 5:28Speaker 1: yea comedy. I mean I couldn't watch the second half
- 5:31Speaker 1: of that game and worked out well, I was glad
- 5:33Speaker 1: I was watching the updates. I missed that one too,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and I felt fortunate after I found out what happened
- 5:39Speaker 1: that I didn't wasn't subjected to watching it because it
- 5:42Speaker 1: sounds like, yeah, it was pretty painful. People would just
- 5:44Speaker 1: it was just too bad, incredulous that they just couldn't
- 5:48Speaker 1: even attempt to pass. Yeah. Now I think the Eagles
- 5:50Speaker 1: would have won anyway, but it would have been more competitive. Yeah,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I have to admit my totally terrible take, like after
- 5:55Speaker 1: it happened, just because Purdy didn't look like he was
- 5:58Speaker 1: in astounding pain, right, he was, like he was standing there,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and you know, I think a lot of people probably,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I mean, look, it came out to a tour as UCL.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I mean, he's out for six it's a serious injury.
- 6:07Speaker 1: He's in no way a whimp. But like, for a
- 6:09Speaker 1: moment there, I'm just like he's just standing that I
- 6:11Speaker 1: can't go back in, and like you look like you
- 6:12Speaker 1: could go really you really? Yeah, and THEO and he
- 6:17Speaker 1: was just kind of like no, Like the way he
- 6:18Speaker 1: said it just kind of sound like no, he can't throw.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I guess you know, it didn't sound like definitive. So
- 6:23Speaker 1: for a minute there, I was kind of like, oh,
- 6:25Speaker 1: come on, just get cooked back in there. But comparing
- 6:29Speaker 1: him to Mahomes and how Mahomes got it out, it
- 6:31Speaker 1: was too bad because I think it would have been
- 6:33Speaker 1: one of those slugfests because I mean San Francisco's defense
- 6:37Speaker 1: still played well, yeah, they played their hearts um you know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: so I think we were sort of deprived of one
- 6:43Speaker 1: of those you know, real tight, you know, thirteen to ten,
- 6:47Speaker 1: seventeen to thirteen kind of defensive struggles. Now, sometimes those
- 6:51Speaker 1: are really terrible to watch. Like I thought the San
- 6:54Speaker 1: Francisco Dallas one two weeks ago was nineteen to twelve.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I thought it was terrible to watch. Both defense has
- 7:00Speaker 1: just dominated the offense has had no answers, um, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: sometimes they you know, there's a back and forth, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: it looked like Philadelphia did have a little of that
- 7:09Speaker 1: back and forth, like, but they would have some successful
- 7:11Speaker 1: runs and then get shut down a little bit. Um.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It would have been interesting to see if San Francisco
- 7:16Speaker 1: could have counterpunched offensively, to see what would have happened. Yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 1: But then the Marquee game, the one that everybody thought
- 7:23Speaker 1: was gonna be good. It was a good game in
- 7:25Speaker 1: terms of you know, competitiveness and you know, score on
- 7:29Speaker 1: the scoreboard. But boy, I you know, Cincinnati fans really
- 7:34Speaker 1: think they got screwed in this one. They did, and
- 7:36Speaker 1: just I mean, I think that's what it's a little disappointed. Well,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I just was disappointed that we came out and the
- 7:41Speaker 1: headlines of the two games are injuries and the refs.
- 7:44Speaker 1: You know, that's just you get to this the best
- 7:46Speaker 1: football weekend of the year you wanted to be. It's
- 7:50Speaker 1: either the games haven't been good, I mean the like
- 7:52Speaker 1: and you know, we could drill down on a lot
- 7:54Speaker 1: of the calls and you know, some of the ones
- 7:56Speaker 1: that were more obvious than others that were maybe a
- 7:58Speaker 1: little bit of the stretch. I saw what Brady saw yesterday,
- 8:01Speaker 1: which I kind of agree with as a reraf of
- 8:02Speaker 1: just like if it's obvious and blatant, like those should
- 8:05Speaker 1: be called, we shouldn't be calling these like marginal things,
- 8:07Speaker 1: which you know generally agree with, but just just stinks
- 8:09Speaker 1: that that's what you have to talk about coming out.
- 8:12Speaker 1: You know, four great teams, four talented teams, and you know,
- 8:15Speaker 1: these are the things. But I thought it was it
- 8:17Speaker 1: wasn't quite the back and forth craziness that some of
- 8:19Speaker 1: those I thought, like I said, oh, you know, like
- 8:23Speaker 1: I thought, Okay, here we go. Yeah, it was like
- 8:26Speaker 1: the Buffalo game last year, only you didn't get the
- 8:29Speaker 1: fourth quarter that you got in the Buffalo game where
- 8:31Speaker 1: they went right, You're looking forth and Haymaker for Haymaker,
- 8:35Speaker 1: back and forth. It just the defense has played well.
- 8:37Speaker 1: But you know, I do think part of that was
- 8:39Speaker 1: the the injuries on both sides, but especially with Kansas
- 8:42Speaker 1: City's offense. Yeah. I did hear some you know a
- 8:45Speaker 1: few people on the radio saying, you know, the NFL,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you know, none of the playoff games are good, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and saying that that's indicative of a bigger thing Okay,
- 8:53Speaker 1: this was a down year for the last year was great.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You know, maybe next year it'll be great too. I
- 8:57Speaker 1: don't think that it's any indication that the league is
- 9:00Speaker 1: falling apart. Yeah, it's funny because I read something this
- 9:02Speaker 1: morning from my buddy Badardum along those lines about this,
- 9:06Speaker 1: you know, the the seventeen games slash seven playoff teams,
- 9:12Speaker 1: UM and the one by and he's extrapolating from that
- 9:16Speaker 1: that you know, this is a correlation there. This is why.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And I agree with Fred. I mean, I'm not going
- 9:21Speaker 1: to tell you every single game, but my recollection was
- 9:24Speaker 1: last year divisional around. Those four games in the division
- 9:27Speaker 1: round were like riveting right. They all ended either in
- 9:30Speaker 1: overtime round the last you know, last play of the
- 9:32Speaker 1: game over overtime UM. And the Kansas City Buffalo game
- 9:38Speaker 1: was one for the ages, right. You know that that
- 9:40Speaker 1: rival the Patriots Chiefs game. The only difference was it
- 9:43Speaker 1: was a division around and not for the right to
- 9:45Speaker 1: go to the Even the Super Bowl didn't Cincinnati, they
- 9:48Speaker 1: were right in it. Yeah, I mean the Rams scored
- 9:50Speaker 1: late to win the Super Bowl. UM. Same and officiating crew,
- 9:54Speaker 1: by the way, that was set the Chiefs game. UM.
- 9:56Speaker 1: This week handed the Rams that that extra play, the
- 10:00Speaker 1: extra chance on the goal line. Um, So you can
- 10:02Speaker 1: understand if Cincinnati's feeling like they're they're a little bit slighted.
- 10:06Speaker 1: But I didn't remember last year. Now. I hate I'm
- 10:10Speaker 1: on record, I hate the seventh playoff team. I don't
- 10:12Speaker 1: think it's right. I don't think you need to have
- 10:14Speaker 1: more bad teams in the playoffs. I guess they get
- 10:16Speaker 1: ready for eight because it's common they're gonna go to eight.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I hate the buye. I think they should eliminate buys
- 10:22Speaker 1: will Um so you think the eight will come with
- 10:25Speaker 1: the number? I think they're gonna go to eighteen games,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and I think there's not going to be a buye
- 10:30Speaker 1: you know football? Yeah, I mean yeah, I think they're
- 10:33Speaker 1: going in the wrong direction, let's put it that way.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think they should have less games and less playoff teams.
- 10:39Speaker 1: But Fred's right. Fred's right the money and what I'm
- 10:43Speaker 1: really worried about now is the whole little peak we
- 10:46Speaker 1: didn't talk about this last week of the Neutral site
- 10:49Speaker 1: Conference Championship. You know, I I mean forgive me if
- 10:53Speaker 1: I if I'm cynical and I'm always thinking something that's
- 10:57Speaker 1: not necessarily stated is behind it. I don't. I don't
- 11:01Speaker 1: see any reason why the NFL had to publicize the
- 11:03Speaker 1: fact that they had sold fifty thousand seats for that
- 11:06Speaker 1: not yet established AFC Championship game in Atlanta, other than
- 11:11Speaker 1: to say, isn't this great? Yeah, this is what we
- 11:14Speaker 1: could do, hey, owners, this is what we can do. Right,
- 11:18Speaker 1: That's what they're gonna They're gonna make a push to
- 11:20Speaker 1: move that now. I don't know if it'll pass. I don't.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think it's too risky to do that because I
- 11:24Speaker 1: think you're gonna get, you know, a year or two
- 11:26Speaker 1: where it's just not an attractive thing and you're not
- 11:30Speaker 1: going to get people willing to travel. Right. Well, at
- 11:33Speaker 1: some point, like, let's face it, the same teams in
- 11:37Speaker 1: a short period of time are the ones that are
- 11:39Speaker 1: in line to go to conference title games, right, right?
- 11:41Speaker 1: So like if you're the Patriots, and we saw this
- 11:43Speaker 1: with Super Bowls, right, that's right. It waxed and waned
- 11:46Speaker 1: with with the nine Super Bowl appearances. There were some
- 11:49Speaker 1: venues that you couldn't find anybody that wasn't wearing Patriots stuff.
- 11:53Speaker 1: There were others you couldn't find anybody wearing it. When
- 11:56Speaker 1: the Patriots played the Eagles. Oh you know, it was easy.
- 11:59Speaker 1: That was that was one that. Yeah, they had way
- 12:01Speaker 1: more fans there. And I think that's at least has
- 12:04Speaker 1: to partly be related to the fact that only the
- 12:09Speaker 1: really wealthy, that's right. I can't afford to go all
- 12:12Speaker 1: the time. So now you're asking them to do it twice. Right,
- 12:15Speaker 1: So if you're Kansas City and you're going to five
- 12:17Speaker 1: conference championship games in a row, I got to pick
- 12:19Speaker 1: the Super Bowl with the conference championship. I can't do.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I can't do two trips yep. Right, And not to
- 12:24Speaker 1: mention like as a season ticket holder, a fan of
- 12:27Speaker 1: a team like that is everything to me. Getting to
- 12:29Speaker 1: a conference championship game, getting to host I mean, I
- 12:31Speaker 1: said it when we talked about it last week. This
- 12:33Speaker 1: is the best football game of the year. It's the
- 12:35Speaker 1: only one that doesn't feel like an exhibition. It feels
- 12:37Speaker 1: like a real, actual football games with real atmosphere. And
- 12:40Speaker 1: then to Paul's point, now you're telling me that I
- 12:42Speaker 1: gotta not only pay to travel to watch the AFC Championship,
- 12:45Speaker 1: but then I gotta pay to go to the Super
- 12:47Speaker 1: Bowl too. I am adamantly against it. I think it's
- 12:50Speaker 1: a terrible idea. You're lucky enough to win, That's what
- 12:54Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like, like, at some point, there's it's it,
- 12:57Speaker 1: there's a breaking point, right. Not everybody can afford to
- 13:00Speaker 1: do that, right, And it's like how much how much
- 13:03Speaker 1: high to expose your product to as many different people
- 13:06Speaker 1: as you can, ye, not just the super wealthy and
- 13:09Speaker 1: like and tie it and like and I hate to
- 13:10Speaker 1: bring it to kids, but like who's bringing their kids
- 13:12Speaker 1: to that game? Like you You're like, I mean, I
- 13:15Speaker 1: guess I'll pony up for like my my wife and
- 13:17Speaker 1: we'll go. But like, I'm not gonna pay for tickets
- 13:19Speaker 1: to fly my kids to Atlanta to watch it. They're like,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, it's just I feel like that is shortsighted.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And when you're trying to grow the game and you're
- 13:26Speaker 1: trying to get kids into the stadium, like you know that,
- 13:29Speaker 1: it's just And I saw some arguments for well, you
- 13:31Speaker 1: know they do it that way in college. You know
- 13:33Speaker 1: it'll never work. Well, they do it that way in college? Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 1: And what do you think that they would rather do
- 13:39Speaker 1: in college? Right? They'd rather have those semi final games
- 13:42Speaker 1: on campus sites, which would be a much bigger deal. Yeah,
- 13:46Speaker 1: but they can't. You know why because in order to
- 13:49Speaker 1: get the whole system in place that they have now,
- 13:52Speaker 1: they had to maintain the quote unquote integrity of the
- 13:55Speaker 1: bowl system, right, yep. That's the only reason why that
- 13:58Speaker 1: they because they've relented, so the Rose Bowl and the
- 14:01Speaker 1: Peach Bowl get to be the semi finals one year
- 14:04Speaker 1: and then the next year it's the Fiesta Bowl in
- 14:05Speaker 1: the Orange Bowl or whatever. But they didn't want to
- 14:08Speaker 1: eliminate all the bowl games. It's all about money, though
- 14:11Speaker 1: I thought about it too, always about money. I thought
- 14:13Speaker 1: about a two watch, and I didn't see Philadelphia celebrating
- 14:16Speaker 1: as much. I saw a little bit of Kansas City,
- 14:18Speaker 1: but like it's just that's everything, Like I imagine when
- 14:20Speaker 1: you guys were here. That was one of my dreams
- 14:22Speaker 1: as a fan was to get to go to a
- 14:23Speaker 1: conference championship game. I mean as a fan, as an atmosphere, Like,
- 14:26Speaker 1: did it get any better than when the Patriots were winning?
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm sorry Paul to bring up twenty eleven. I know
- 14:31Speaker 1: you know that that's tough that that one, But otherwise
- 14:33Speaker 1: those games, no, but like awesome here I witnessed it
- 14:37Speaker 1: from different in different places, Like I was one of
- 14:41Speaker 1: the idiots in the stands in ninety six when they
- 14:44Speaker 1: beat Jacksonville to go to the super Bowl, and it
- 14:46Speaker 1: was electric. Unfortunately there was no electricity in the state,
- 14:51Speaker 1: but it was electric in the stands and all seriousness,
- 14:53Speaker 1: it was one of the most riveting things, like exciting
- 14:57Speaker 1: things that I've ever been a part of. And to
- 15:00Speaker 1: do it, um, you know, as a as a work
- 15:03Speaker 1: an employee here working, I mean random things that stick
- 15:08Speaker 1: out in your head. The fourth and long against Jacksonville
- 15:11Speaker 1: when Steph Gilmore knocked down that pass to sort of
- 15:14Speaker 1: cement it, right, the whole press box was shaking, yeah, shaking, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:20Speaker 1: you just like the Billy Kundit field goal. Yeah, when
- 15:22Speaker 1: he missed the field. You can't duplicate that experience. But
- 15:26Speaker 1: you know, getting back to things that you know actually happened,
- 15:29Speaker 1: we're getting into things that might happen. Um. Where do
- 15:32Speaker 1: you guys come down on the criticism of the Bills
- 15:35Speaker 1: and their fans and how they you know, the talk
- 15:39Speaker 1: leading up to the game, like, you know, I don't know,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I just I don't know what you want Bills fans
- 15:44Speaker 1: to do. They're excited about their team they've been waiting for.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I'm talking about the Jazz. I'm not who am I
- 15:50Speaker 1: even talking about. I'm talking about the Bengals being upset
- 15:53Speaker 1: about feeling like they was. I mean I refused to
- 15:56Speaker 1: most they got home. I mean no, I don't think
- 15:58Speaker 1: I was around it. No, No, what do you think
- 16:00Speaker 1: about like they got the Bengals fans got criticized leading
- 16:04Speaker 1: up to the game, and all the trash talking Bengals
- 16:07Speaker 1: fans or the mayor may Well, I don't know who
- 16:11Speaker 1: Burrowville that was? That was That was your boy Eli Apple, Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 1: who was yet to make a play for his team
- 16:19Speaker 1: but has cost his team plenty. So what do you
- 16:21Speaker 1: think about all that? Like, you know, they're acting like
- 16:23Speaker 1: they want Joey Trevis n Yeah, I mean it's uh,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you gotta be careful of that stuff, right, no bullets car.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Do you think it's fun? I mean I think I
- 16:30Speaker 1: think it's fun. Trash talking is fun. The mayor made
- 16:33Speaker 1: an ass of himself. That's not trash talking. Yeah, like
- 16:36Speaker 1: Burrowville is funny. And you know what, when you do that,
- 16:39Speaker 1: then you have to subject yourself to the a hole
- 16:42Speaker 1: that is Travis Kelsey shooting back at your right, like,
- 16:45Speaker 1: that's that's fun. Yeah, yeah, you have to be prepared
- 16:48Speaker 1: to take right. That's to me, that's fun. I don't
- 16:50Speaker 1: have any problem. Yeah no, but they unfortunately are you know,
- 16:54Speaker 1: they're they're learning what it's like now. I mean, I
- 16:55Speaker 1: think that's what the Bills too. It's you're learning what
- 16:57Speaker 1: it's like to go from a team that like, man,
- 16:59Speaker 1: we're the playoffs, like how great is this to being
- 17:01Speaker 1: like we we got to get to a convers chamtionship,
- 17:04Speaker 1: we gotta get to a super Bowl? Now, this is
- 17:05Speaker 1: where in our window, time is a tick in, and
- 17:08Speaker 1: these are our chances in. You you know, That's how
- 17:10Speaker 1: I felt. I'd be really curious about Cincinnati when it's
- 17:13Speaker 1: time to make a decision on Burrow. Obviously you keep them,
- 17:16Speaker 1: but are they gonna pay this guy? Yeah? I just yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 1: it's it's it's the other guys that I wonder. Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I don't have any fear that they're not going to
- 17:25Speaker 1: pay him. Yeah, but are they going to make sure
- 17:27Speaker 1: that they give Chase one and twenty million? Right? Are
- 17:30Speaker 1: they gonna like maintain like Logan Wilson and Sam Hubbard
- 17:35Speaker 1: and Trey Hendrickson and like some of the important guys
- 17:37Speaker 1: on defense. That's the key for Mike Brown, like, can
- 17:40Speaker 1: you find a way to keep enough of those guys?
- 17:43Speaker 1: You know, no one no one keeps everybody. You know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: Bill tells you all the time there's there's always turnover
- 17:47Speaker 1: in the National Football League. So I'm not going to
- 17:50Speaker 1: kill him if somebody has to go, But you need
- 17:53Speaker 1: to make sure you maintain the integrity of the talent. Yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 1: you need to keep that in place, because that's too
- 17:58Speaker 1: good of a team to not to not maintain. Paul
- 18:01Speaker 1: and I argued a little yesterday on some of the calls,
- 18:04Speaker 1: like you know, I you know, they showed the ref
- 18:07Speaker 1: coming out and yeah, I've watched it about five times.
- 18:10Speaker 1: He comes out at the snap and stops immediately, Like
- 18:13Speaker 1: I've seen it a million times. There's no way that
- 18:16Speaker 1: that place should have been rerunning. Nobody did it. Human error.
- 18:19Speaker 1: The referee screwed up Torbert this and no one's talked
- 18:22Speaker 1: about this. Do you know why they had to do that?
- 18:24Speaker 1: Because the idiot on an incomplete pass said when the
- 18:27Speaker 1: ball had to be respotted, so they reset it. And
- 18:30Speaker 1: then he said the reset the play clock to ten,
- 18:34Speaker 1: the play clock and game clock will start on my
- 18:37Speaker 1: on my wind. It was an incomplete pass. The game
- 18:39Speaker 1: clock shouldn't have started. That was his fault. It's human error.
- 18:43Speaker 1: It officials, that's an officials error. You have to play
- 18:46Speaker 1: with it. It's definitely human error. But like once he
- 18:48Speaker 1: comes out waiving the play, but he didn't. I watched it.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I've watched it from from up high. He started off
- 18:54Speaker 1: the sideline as the ball was snapped. He didn't make
- 18:56Speaker 1: it in time. Sorry, it's just like you, missless just
- 18:59Speaker 1: pulled out up in that. I think he was like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: we're just letting it go. I guess we're just letting it.
- 19:02Speaker 1: The guy stopped, and then when the play was over,
- 19:04Speaker 1: he ran over to the referee and told him, which
- 19:07Speaker 1: mured at that point should have said, sorry, you didn't
- 19:09Speaker 1: do it in time. It's just like all these times
- 19:11Speaker 1: when they talk about to lay a game when the
- 19:13Speaker 1: play clock runs out it was zero. Well we saw
- 19:16Speaker 1: it was zero. You didn't call it in time. Now,
- 19:17Speaker 1: so the play had account And then the roughing or
- 19:21Speaker 1: the lay hit out of bounds on Mahomes the last play.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I mean, you gotta call that right. Today's NFL out
- 19:28Speaker 1: in that game, you didn't They didn't call it at
- 19:30Speaker 1: the times. I think about the human cry if they
- 19:33Speaker 1: hadn't called it, I don't think you'd have it. There's
- 19:35Speaker 1: no human cryer the not calling it on Burrow. Yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I don't hear anybody. I don't hear anybody crying about that.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I'm kidding me. I don't the Cincinnati I'm not talking
- 19:43Speaker 1: about the two teams, Fred, I'm talking about everybody else
- 19:46Speaker 1: who doesn't have a dog in the fight. I didn't
- 19:48Speaker 1: have a dog. I didn't care who won. I like
- 19:50Speaker 1: both quarterbacks. I'm saying I was going to root for
- 19:53Speaker 1: either one of those teams. Were just as many videos
- 19:55Speaker 1: of the Borough non call as from from cincinnatything. I
- 19:59Speaker 1: don't know posting it. I'm just saying, I thought you
- 20:02Speaker 1: had to make the call on Mahomes. I thought you
- 20:04Speaker 1: didn't have I I'm with Paul on this one. But
- 20:06Speaker 1: I think Paul had a great take yesterday in the
- 20:08Speaker 1: morning when he came up, and it's just it's it's
- 20:10Speaker 1: having awareness of where we are in the game. These
- 20:12Speaker 1: are two guys, the Super Bowls on the line. They're
- 20:14Speaker 1: both running for a spot. Now, did Joseph Aside lower
- 20:17Speaker 1: his shoulder and plant him No, he almost didn't make
- 20:21Speaker 1: any contact. I mean, it's like he put his hand
- 20:23Speaker 1: on his shoulder. I get. I mean, I get your points.
- 20:26Speaker 1: On what we've seen. They're gonna call it, don't. I
- 20:28Speaker 1: just wish we live in a place where he said,
- 20:30Speaker 1: the super Bowls on the line. Those are two guys
- 20:32Speaker 1: trying to make a play. Nobody was hurt. There was
- 20:34Speaker 1: nothing malicious about it, you know, Joseph was I was
- 20:37Speaker 1: trying to like catch his balance more than anything, which
- 20:39Speaker 1: I thought he broke his leg for a second. There
- 20:41Speaker 1: there was like one slow motion replay where his whole
- 20:43Speaker 1: leg like shimmer. But I get your point, But I
- 20:46Speaker 1: just wish they wouldn't have to call those things. I wish,
- 20:48Speaker 1: especially within the moment, and that goes to the Brady
- 20:50Speaker 1: thing of just have some awareness of was it blatant?
- 20:53Speaker 1: Was it over the top? Was it injured? Like to
- 20:56Speaker 1: inflict an injury like those things should be called, but
- 20:58Speaker 1: an incidental contact, you're bull kind of falling out of
- 21:01Speaker 1: bounds to decide who goes to the Super Bowl. It
- 21:03Speaker 1: was like I just wanted to term my TV off
- 21:04Speaker 1: and be like, well, there it is, okay. You know,
- 21:06Speaker 1: it's just so anticlimactic and disappointing with and I will
- 21:10Speaker 1: never argue that by the letter of the law, it
- 21:12Speaker 1: was a penalty. Fred's right. The guy had his feet
- 21:15Speaker 1: out of bounds and he was contacted. Yeah, I won't
- 21:18Speaker 1: say hit because he wasn't hit, but he was contacted
- 21:20Speaker 1: while out of bounds. So there's a rule in the
- 21:23Speaker 1: book that black and white that says that's a penalty
- 21:25Speaker 1: if he get it, if he had I just think
- 21:26Speaker 1: that I'd like to have a league where an official
- 21:29Speaker 1: can look at it and say, that's really, that's not
- 21:33Speaker 1: that's not much there. I don't want to I don't
- 21:35Speaker 1: want to hit one team a chance to win this
- 21:37Speaker 1: game on that right. I wish that someone would have
- 21:39Speaker 1: common sense to do that. But that jackass will probably
- 21:42Speaker 1: get the grade that he needs to move on to
- 21:44Speaker 1: the next line because it said here he was out
- 21:46Speaker 1: of bounds and he got hit, and he gets the
- 21:49Speaker 1: congratulations for having the balls to make the call that
- 21:52Speaker 1: sent one team now, and again, I didn't care who
- 21:54Speaker 1: won the game. I hear Andy Hart, and I hear
- 21:56Speaker 1: Paul's Guy Felder saying, just get rid of replay. It
- 21:59Speaker 1: doesn't work, get rid of it. I disagree I say,
- 22:03Speaker 1: just keep working to make it better, make it work.
- 22:07Speaker 1: You know, it's like, yeah, it's it. There are times
- 22:10Speaker 1: where replay has failed or the humans behind the replay
- 22:14Speaker 1: have failed. But think about all the times that replay
- 22:17Speaker 1: has gotten it right. I think that far overshadows the
- 22:20Speaker 1: times screw it up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for the and
- 22:24Speaker 1: I think, and I'm talking about all sports, not just football.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I think that let's just keep working to make replay better.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Let's invest the money to make sure we have enough cameras,
- 22:33Speaker 1: and let's allow the guy the Eye and the Sky
- 22:36Speaker 1: New York to intervene and so like. But and then
- 22:41Speaker 1: is that just like in set period? So right? Like
- 22:43Speaker 1: that everybody? So like DeVante Smith, was that not probably
- 22:45Speaker 1: should have been. Yeah, you know the the quote unquote
- 22:49Speaker 1: expedited replay that we saw throughout the playoffs until the
- 22:52Speaker 1: season's on the line. You know. But like I say,
- 22:54Speaker 1: keep working to make it better. You know, I agree. Again,
- 22:58Speaker 1: I'm not a like a score to Patriots fan that
- 23:00Speaker 1: somehow had something taken away from me Sunday because Kansas
- 23:03Speaker 1: City one. I didn't care who won. I was just
- 23:06Speaker 1: rooting for both teams to score. It was much like
- 23:08Speaker 1: the Kansas City Buffalo game last year where I just
- 23:11Speaker 1: wanted to see these two great quarterbacks go head to head.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I just don't want to see a sixty yard field
- 23:16Speaker 1: goal with eight seconds left turn into a forty five
- 23:18Speaker 1: yard or yeah for that and that's the first bat
- 23:20Speaker 1: and that and this show is the first thing I
- 23:22Speaker 1: thought of when this game ended, And I'm like, great,
- 23:24Speaker 1: that's that's what we're gonna be talking about. The calls.
- 23:26Speaker 1: And I don't think the game was fixed, No, I
- 23:28Speaker 1: just think it's incompetence. I mean they're incompetent every week
- 23:32Speaker 1: the league. You know, they had to have Patrick Mahomes,
- 23:34Speaker 1: Like why wouldn't you have to have Joe. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 1: know why. It would be such a bad story to
- 23:38Speaker 1: have this Joe Barrow kid come come out of nowhere
- 23:42Speaker 1: to an Ohio kid who's playing in his home state
- 23:45Speaker 1: and leading this downtrodden franchise to back to back Super Bowls.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I don't know why that's not a storybook season for
- 23:51Speaker 1: the NFL. Right, But I agree with Fred on that,
- 23:53Speaker 1: Like why why why is it all about getting Mahomes there? Yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 1: Like Mahomes is going to get there on his own
- 23:58Speaker 1: plenty he's that good. Just be so hard to really do,
- 24:01Speaker 1: like if you were really like a referee, like not
- 24:03Speaker 1: just the referee, but the whole crew, Like all right,
- 24:05Speaker 1: we're in it, like to do it subtly, and it's
- 24:08Speaker 1: just impossible. I don't, I don't. They're just bad, that's all. Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 1: It was just it wasn't a well officiated game. I
- 24:13Speaker 1: can say that. And it's more so like the calls
- 24:16Speaker 1: of the calls. There's gonna be bad calls. But this
- 24:18Speaker 1: is a my my guy. Felger kept making this point yesterday.
- 24:22Speaker 1: They like just the operation of both of those games
- 24:25Speaker 1: was so clunky. Yeah, like well, just sudden this is
- 24:31Speaker 1: like the second game, and like in a couple of
- 24:33Speaker 1: weeks where they've had to replace the chains. The other game,
- 24:36Speaker 1: they didn't have a replacement chain. They had to use
- 24:38Speaker 1: you know, surgical taper, you know medical tape. I didn't
- 24:41Speaker 1: tape it up. Was that in the Philadelphia? Yeah? No, No,
- 24:44Speaker 1: last week they a chain broke and they didn't have
- 24:47Speaker 1: a backup chain. They taped it up with tape that
- 24:50Speaker 1: you would tape your ankle with. Yeah, I didn't see that.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I mean, like, yeah, I do wonder like if the
- 24:57Speaker 1: chain like with all the technology, like the chain, like
- 25:00Speaker 1: you couldn't just kill like like chain to like laser things,
- 25:03Speaker 1: like we know what's exactly ten yards right? Right? Do
- 25:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like we don't have to
- 25:07Speaker 1: like that chain? Is that really tends right? I like
- 25:10Speaker 1: your chain links? You know, is it too much to
- 25:16Speaker 1: ask to have changed with lasers? So funny, like you know,
- 25:19Speaker 1: with all the technology, they're still doing the chain game.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And look, you know, I know there's a lot of talk,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, like you put a chip in the football,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and I know they have done that, They've experimented with that.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I don't need a chip in the football because that's
- 25:30Speaker 1: still flawed. I think that, but like the measurements and
- 25:33Speaker 1: stuff should be exact, right. I think the biggest advancement
- 25:36Speaker 1: was just going from like having a flip the downmarker
- 25:38Speaker 1: over to now you can just kind of slide it
- 25:40Speaker 1: up one spot. Like that's that's the extent that. How
- 25:43Speaker 1: about in college they have the digital Yeah, I don't
- 25:47Speaker 1: watch You don't watch college football because you have a girlfriend.
- 25:49Speaker 1: It's it's funny. So we have the Eagles and the Lays.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You're gonna want to know about that. It's an inside
- 25:57Speaker 1: joke about alex Park Eagles are early dogs, Is that right?
- 26:01Speaker 1: I thought they were no two point favorites two. I mean,
- 26:07Speaker 1: I probably liked the Eagles in this one, I think.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard not to respect what Patrick Mahomes
- 26:12Speaker 1: did in that game and what he did, you know,
- 26:14Speaker 1: I mean I thought they were done. I mean, I
- 26:16Speaker 1: thought after that Burrow interception that all they're gonna score
- 26:19Speaker 1: here and it's gonna get out of hand, and the
- 26:21Speaker 1: Cincinnati defense came up with a great stop and in
- 26:23Speaker 1: that point, I think that was when Cincinnati went in
- 26:25Speaker 1: that long drive right at the end of the half,
- 26:27Speaker 1: they unfortunately didn't get, you know, and you could see
- 26:29Speaker 1: the disappointment on Joe Burrow's face. But I thought that
- 26:32Speaker 1: moment was really felt like Cincinnati was taken over the
- 26:34Speaker 1: game until you know, maybe late late in the third quarter,
- 26:36Speaker 1: and that's when it kind of started going back the
- 26:38Speaker 1: other way. Well, but you gotta admit, if Mahomes hadn't
- 26:41Speaker 1: fumbled that ball, and I don't know how it was,
- 26:44Speaker 1: the game was hanging by a thread right there and that. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 1: but I agree with Deuce. It looked like there was
- 26:49Speaker 1: that that drive at the end of the half. Then
- 26:52Speaker 1: they came out stopped three and out to stop to
- 26:54Speaker 1: stop him, to stop that, and then they went right
- 26:56Speaker 1: down the field and scored a touchdown to tie it.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Then they then then all of a sudden, they started
- 27:00Speaker 1: going back and forth a little bit. Kansas City scored,
- 27:03Speaker 1: Cincinnati scored. It's twenty to twenty. Then since Kansas City
- 27:06Speaker 1: kind of I thought controlled the fourth quarter um slowing
- 27:10Speaker 1: Cincinnati down a little bit more. But it it just
- 27:14Speaker 1: was unfortunate that I think the only thing anybody really
- 27:17Speaker 1: takes away from the game is is the sloppiness of
- 27:19Speaker 1: the officiating and Cincinnati. It's it's obscuring Cincinnati fans, you know,
- 27:25Speaker 1: need to look in the mirror too, because they blew
- 27:27Speaker 1: a lot of opportunities in that Oh yeah, like they
- 27:30Speaker 1: had the ball with two and a half minutes left
- 27:32Speaker 1: at the end of the game and they overcame the
- 27:36Speaker 1: intentional grounding call, which was netrocity by the way. Yeah
- 27:39Speaker 1: that they and you know, even though like say, everybody's like,
- 27:44Speaker 1: well they got the first down anyway, but that pushed
- 27:46Speaker 1: them back, like that counts. That's more yards they had
- 27:50Speaker 1: to get again, Like they had you know, they had
- 27:53Speaker 1: a backtrack and replaced those yards, and I just thought,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I think it was was it. It might have been
- 28:01Speaker 1: in that possession. I thought they got stopped the possession
- 28:04Speaker 1: before that. In the fourth quarter, I think they will
- 28:07Speaker 1: move in a little bit. They had a second and
- 28:09Speaker 1: three and a third and three and they went long
- 28:11Speaker 1: and the second one got intercepted. Now again they overcame
- 28:16Speaker 1: that because Kansas City didn't score off of that, but
- 28:18Speaker 1: lost opportunities. I think Cincinnati he had a chance, you know,
- 28:22Speaker 1: referees aside, they still had the ball with a chance
- 28:24Speaker 1: to get down to win the game, and they couldn't
- 28:26Speaker 1: do it. Yep, yep. All right, So now we have
- 28:30Speaker 1: two weeks before we get more football. Yeah, right now,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I like Philadelphia, but I reserve, as I wrote in
- 28:35Speaker 1: the notes, I reserved the right to change my mind
- 28:36Speaker 1: if I see evidence that Mahomes can move, because to me,
- 28:39Speaker 1: that's the whole my sole reason for picking Philadelphia's Mahomes
- 28:42Speaker 1: can't move, and with that defensive line, I think the
- 28:45Speaker 1: injuries to their receivers, yeah, but I think if his
- 28:48Speaker 1: if he could move, I wouldn't worry about who was
- 28:50Speaker 1: throwing too. Yeah, because the great ones like Brady Mahomes Manning.
- 28:54Speaker 1: They don't need they don't need that number one guy
- 28:57Speaker 1: to throw to right. It is. It is remarkable Kansas
- 29:00Speaker 1: City's doing though. I mean, I think, you know a
- 29:01Speaker 1: lot of I mean, I know I get a little
- 29:03Speaker 1: bit skewed based on you know that they were coming
- 29:05Speaker 1: up when the Patriots were kind of going down. But uh,
- 29:08Speaker 1: just what they do with Mahomes, Kelsey, Chris Jones, you know,
- 29:12Speaker 1: with that little core. I mean, you certainly have good
- 29:14Speaker 1: players around him, but those are the guys and the
- 29:16Speaker 1: key moments that just seemed to make the plays that
- 29:18Speaker 1: at the biggest moments. Mahomes to do that, like, I
- 29:21Speaker 1: mean a couple of ones out after he got hurt,
- 29:23Speaker 1: like you know, when he got like taken down and
- 29:26Speaker 1: then he was limping, and I thought, I throw a hardman,
- 29:28Speaker 1: you know, And I know Peter King made a big
- 29:30Speaker 1: deal with this. He looked like he needed some time
- 29:33Speaker 1: there and he kind of lucky. They thought he's a hardman.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Gut hurt right on the catch, you go down, but um,
- 29:39Speaker 1: you lose Tony Hardman and Smith Schuster, it just doesn't matter.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And a couple of touchdowns and then he you know,
- 29:49Speaker 1: did enough to get them in field goal range with
- 29:51Speaker 1: the help of the penalty, he would have had to
- 29:53Speaker 1: complete another pass without the penalty. Um. Yeah, I mean
- 29:59Speaker 1: it was a pretty incredible performance given that that touchdown
- 30:03Speaker 1: he threw to to Valdez scantling with Mike Hilton right
- 30:06Speaker 1: there diving. I mean, that's a perfect throw. He's amazing,
- 30:11Speaker 1: It's truly amazing. He's he's the best quarterback in the
- 30:14Speaker 1: league right now. He doesn't look or sound good, but
- 30:16Speaker 1: he's the best. Yeah. Like you're watching too, like you
- 30:20Speaker 1: like even at the end of the game, like to
- 30:22Speaker 1: play before the the run. You know, he has the
- 30:27Speaker 1: thing that the head goes to the side and he
- 30:29Speaker 1: like he's closing his hand together, like asa, how all
- 30:33Speaker 1: right the clock has stopped. He can huddle huddle here. Ye.
- 30:35Speaker 1: He has like the quirkiest mannerisms ever. Yeah, he's so good.
- 30:40Speaker 1: He's so good. Yeah. Um. Very minor nitpick with the clock.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Andy Reid gets destroyed for his clock management. He had
- 30:47Speaker 1: two really really bad examples of this. Um at the
- 30:51Speaker 1: end of the first half on that drive that that
- 30:55Speaker 1: deuce is talking about. He goes three and out on
- 30:59Speaker 1: that without taking any time off. The clock took over
- 31:01Speaker 1: at the thirty nine yard line. I think gave Cincinnati
- 31:04Speaker 1: the ball back before the two minute warning. You should
- 31:06Speaker 1: have at least gotten into field goal range there, but
- 31:10Speaker 1: very minor one after the controversial flag. So now you
- 31:15Speaker 1: have a forty five yard field goal, so you're in
- 31:17Speaker 1: field goal range. You don't you don't need to do anything.
- 31:18Speaker 1: There's eight seconds left, no time outs. What do you do?
- 31:22Speaker 1: What do you for? Who? Kansas City City? Maybe ice him?
- 31:26Speaker 1: Why would you want to know the Bengals with ice him? Right,
- 31:30Speaker 1: I think there's eight seconds left. You want to try
- 31:32Speaker 1: to make the field goal the last play of the game, right,
- 31:35Speaker 1: take the snap, Mahomes throws the ball over the guy's
- 31:37Speaker 1: head on the sideline. You take three seconds off the clock.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Then you kick the field goal. Yeah, I found kicked
- 31:44Speaker 1: the field goal. They had a kick off, Like I'm sorry.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Miracles happen, Yeah, I mean no one knows it more
- 31:49Speaker 1: than the Patriots. Yeah, like funny things can happen. Yeah,
- 31:53Speaker 1: if you do it my way, you can't lose. I
- 31:55Speaker 1: wonder if there's a set like is there we need
- 31:57Speaker 1: at least four seconds for a play? Like did they
- 31:59Speaker 1: have some on a formula? Because I was found myself
- 32:01Speaker 1: thinking that as they were getting cloth start, until how
- 32:04Speaker 1: do you manage it? You know, especially when you're on
- 32:06Speaker 1: like the two and you're like, man, we're like we're here,
- 32:09Speaker 1: Like that's like they kick. They kicked the field goal
- 32:11Speaker 1: on third down on first down, on first down, So yeah,
- 32:16Speaker 1: probably you just take the snap and throw it like
- 32:19Speaker 1: there's no there's saying, but listen, you might have chance
- 32:25Speaker 1: for another one. Well, I mean, I I mean, I
- 32:27Speaker 1: really like I was thinking the same thing with what
- 32:29Speaker 1: Paul is laying out, and I just in my brain
- 32:31Speaker 1: was racking like is there a way to ensure that
- 32:33Speaker 1: you have a two second pass? You know, like like
- 32:35Speaker 1: just something that it absolutely used and teams used to
- 32:39Speaker 1: do that. They would if they had the option at
- 32:41Speaker 1: the end. They would do it with like eight ten
- 32:43Speaker 1: seconds left. And if it's a bad snap, you could
- 32:46Speaker 1: you know, throw it away in kick on the next down.
- 32:49Speaker 1: That's why in overtime a lot of times they would
- 32:52Speaker 1: start kicking it on third down. But you you can't, like,
- 32:57Speaker 1: what is there a better chance of a kick or
- 33:00Speaker 1: bobbled snap? Like maybe he was thinking about the player
- 33:03Speaker 1: that Mahomes had earlier where somehow we fumbled the ball Yeah,
- 33:07Speaker 1: when he was just throwing a quick screen pass. Maybe
- 33:09Speaker 1: he didn't. I don't know. Is it an egregious mistake, No,
- 33:12Speaker 1: very minor. But it's one of those things where like
- 33:15Speaker 1: Sean McDermott is crucified for kicking the ball last year
- 33:19Speaker 1: with thirteen seconds left. If he kicked that short and
- 33:23Speaker 1: the guy returned it, he'd be crucified for not kicking
- 33:26Speaker 1: into the end zone. Like, it's one of those things.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Whatever happens after that, it's going to illustrate. I like
- 33:32Speaker 1: to like pose the problems that can happen either way.
- 33:36Speaker 1: What did you think. I thought it was kind of
- 33:37Speaker 1: interesting you brought up Badard. He did a right I
- 33:40Speaker 1: think it was yesterday maybe, but just talking about the
- 33:43Speaker 1: play caller, guys, coaches that are having trouble at times
- 33:46Speaker 1: with the clock management, you know, guys who get so
- 33:49Speaker 1: buried into the playsheet and everything that he was kind
- 33:51Speaker 1: of bringing up for teams like you know, Eagles and
- 33:55Speaker 1: forty nine Ers and the Chiefs. I have a couple
- 33:57Speaker 1: of things on that now. I think there are plenty
- 34:00Speaker 1: of things that you can criticize Kyle Shanahan about, you know,
- 34:03Speaker 1: in these big games. I think I think he gets
- 34:06Speaker 1: a little I think he gets but I think he
- 34:09Speaker 1: gets a little tight in big games, and I think
- 34:11Speaker 1: that's an element um the DeVante Smith not decision to
- 34:16Speaker 1: not challenge. I don't kill him for um. And I
- 34:19Speaker 1: know a lot of people have made a big deal
- 34:21Speaker 1: of DeVante Smith's reaction. Yeah, couldn't you see teams doing
- 34:28Speaker 1: that on purpose? I was just gonna say the same thing,
- 34:30Speaker 1: Paul to bait them into doing it and wasting a timeout.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And to me, it's not even like everybody's like, it's
- 34:36Speaker 1: the first quarter. The timeouts is not that important. It's
- 34:39Speaker 1: not the first half. Three timeouts, you lose the challenge.
- 34:41Speaker 1: The challenge is important, right, Going the rest of the
- 34:44Speaker 1: game with only one challenge that is important. Yeah. So yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 1: I've seen it many times where you know, you watch
- 34:53Speaker 1: the replay and the guy absolutely caught it. When you
- 34:56Speaker 1: watch it again, they're like, oh, it looked like he didn't.
- 34:57Speaker 1: You know, he's trying to like talk, that's a play.
- 35:00Speaker 1: All teams have that big play. We're gonna hurry to
- 35:03Speaker 1: the line. You know, maybe I caught it, maybe I didn't,
- 35:06Speaker 1: but let's try to get the snap off. That's why
- 35:09Speaker 1: the eye in the Sky needs to step in there,
- 35:11Speaker 1: because I'm sure that they didn't get a good look
- 35:13Speaker 1: at that. But I don't think that's necessarily Shannahan's fault.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Like someone's got to be looking at that for him
- 35:18Speaker 1: and saying, hey, throw the challenge Kyle, right, you know,
- 35:21Speaker 1: it looks like he lost that, right, And I also
- 35:24Speaker 1: you need to trust your team, but even that angle
- 35:26Speaker 1: was probably not available right away. Oh, they showed like
- 35:29Speaker 1: three replays and you couldn't tell. And then finally they
- 35:31Speaker 1: showed that one from the back where you could see
- 35:33Speaker 1: the ball dragging across the field. Clearly didn't catch it,
- 35:36Speaker 1: didn't maintain it, right. I mean, I think he did
- 35:38Speaker 1: catch it, but I don't want to argue with what
- 35:40Speaker 1: they think is a catch in that league. But he
- 35:43Speaker 1: clearly would have been overruled overturned on replay. Yeah, clearly
- 35:46Speaker 1: he hit the ground. I'm getting back to the Patriots
- 35:48Speaker 1: a little bit. Just the Bill O'Brien update. Yes, he
- 35:52Speaker 1: is up at the Shrine game, so he's out there,
- 35:57Speaker 1: so we don't know like yet what he's gonna do
- 36:01Speaker 1: with the rest of his staff, but they are who
- 36:03Speaker 1: is the old lineman that they ryan went down that
- 36:06Speaker 1: they interviewed former Patriot, and I guess he's doing a
- 36:10Speaker 1: pretty good job wherever he's at. So yeah, and he
- 36:13Speaker 1: was I remember at the time he was disappointed that
- 36:17Speaker 1: he didn't get promoted from assistant offensive line coach. Um.
- 36:22Speaker 1: I think there was some movement on the staff and
- 36:24Speaker 1: he didn't get a bump up. Okay, so he's probably
- 36:27Speaker 1: ready to move on. Yeah. So if I don't know,
- 36:31Speaker 1: and this is kind of I mean, I would expect
- 36:33Speaker 1: something soon. I mean, it seems like he's dragging on
- 36:35Speaker 1: a little bit. Now if you've got Billy Oh, you've
- 36:37Speaker 1: interviewed all these offensive line coaches, and is it going
- 36:39Speaker 1: to stop at offensive line? Will there be other guys?
- 36:42Speaker 1: And I was disappointed that he's the quarterbacks coach, to
- 36:45Speaker 1: be honest with you, And I was hoping for an
- 36:47Speaker 1: additional coach to this. No, I like it. I think
- 36:50Speaker 1: the O C should be the QB coach. I think
- 36:52Speaker 1: it just makes sense if he's you know, a veteran UM.
- 36:55Speaker 1: But I did hear one of your guys, Paul Albert
- 36:58Speaker 1: Brier say, um that he's hearing that Judge is staying
- 37:02Speaker 1: with the team. Seem at a capacity to be named
- 37:08Speaker 1: and he intimated he kind of knows what it is,
- 37:10Speaker 1: but he wouldn't say what it is. It's like typical
- 37:12Speaker 1: breer because once it is named, well, you know, I
- 37:14Speaker 1: knew that was coming. Okay, then why didn't you report it?
- 37:17Speaker 1: You know? But he's hearing that. Judge is staying he's
- 37:20Speaker 1: been around out there. I mean, I don't know exactly.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Maybe we'll find out from Evan on Thursday where exactly
- 37:25Speaker 1: he was, who he was talking to with coaching, But
- 37:28Speaker 1: no sign of Mattie p Another part of the Brier
- 37:30Speaker 1: thing probably to bring up is the Bill having a
- 37:32Speaker 1: hand in the play calls this year was something he
- 37:34Speaker 1: reported as well. I mean, I we've speculated before the
- 37:38Speaker 1: season that, like we wouldn't be surprised if Bill's calling plays. Yeah,
- 37:41Speaker 1: you know, I'm sure he did. It was just I
- 37:43Speaker 1: guess it's just a bummer to hear, like, and that's
- 37:45Speaker 1: why they had trouble getting the calls and so that
- 37:48Speaker 1: and the inconsistency, like you can't have too many cooks
- 37:53Speaker 1: when it comes to play calling, you know, too many
- 37:56Speaker 1: cooks in that kitchen, and like what's that sound like
- 37:59Speaker 1: when when Mattie Pee is trying to get a play
- 38:01Speaker 1: in and then Bill overrules that and no, no, yeah,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I think it's people are listening to that. I think
- 38:07Speaker 1: if if that was a regular occurrence, I think that
- 38:09Speaker 1: it's perfectly reasonable for Duce's scenario there. That's how to
- 38:14Speaker 1: be part of the reason why they had trouble sometimes
- 38:16Speaker 1: with the communication in terms of the caliber, it didn't
- 38:19Speaker 1: matter who was calling plays. None of them worked. Yeah,
- 38:21Speaker 1: they didn't have success all year. So like, I don't
- 38:23Speaker 1: blame him anymore than I blamed Patricia. Bill called the
- 38:27Speaker 1: if he called the Marcus Jones screen against the Bills.
- 38:29Speaker 1: He called that will that will come out in the
- 38:33Speaker 1: in the documentary on NFL Films that you know, the
- 38:36Speaker 1: ode to Bill. Guess who called the lateral play? Yeah,
- 38:39Speaker 1: Maddie pe called him the lateral play if the lateral
- 38:42Speaker 1: play at work and we worked on that in practice
- 38:44Speaker 1: this right, you get journey up there with the film
- 38:47Speaker 1: correct And I do have you know some I do
- 38:50Speaker 1: have some headlines for you, Ondine on the Mac love Okay, um,
- 38:54Speaker 1: just just random stuff. I just did a quick Google search.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Was it Mac Jones's fault or the coaches? That was
- 39:01Speaker 1: my Google search Mac Jones. At least we'll have a
- 39:04Speaker 1: chance to succeed next season, which he didn't have this season. Yea,
- 39:08Speaker 1: this former NFL head coach has Mac Jones isn't a
- 39:10Speaker 1: blame for Patriots problems. Ex Patriots players and former NFL
- 39:14Speaker 1: quarterbacks agreed New England's coaching is failing mac Jones. One
- 39:17Speaker 1: analysts suggested that Jones should demand a trade if things
- 39:19Speaker 1: don't change over the offseason. If it ain't, it ain't
- 39:22Speaker 1: mac Jones's fault, they hate should be going to the coach.
- 39:28Speaker 1: How much blame does the coaching staff deserve from mac
- 39:30Speaker 1: Jones's failures? How you double sided it? Yes? Why mac
- 39:34Speaker 1: Jones is alleged quote unquote attitude problem is a mischaracter
- 39:38Speaker 1: mischaracterization of the Patriots quarterback. Oh the tides turned now?
- 39:42Speaker 1: How many no no no, no no, no no, no no, no
- 39:44Speaker 1: no no. Some of these are from August. Yeah, well,
- 39:48Speaker 1: let me tell you how many failed NFL coaches does
- 39:51Speaker 1: it take to screw up mac Jones? That was from August.
- 39:53Speaker 1: T k in some honesty, this coaching situation is not
- 39:56Speaker 1: fair to mac Jones. That was from September. First, I know,
- 39:58Speaker 1: but I can go in the middle of the sea,
- 40:00Speaker 1: gonna get just as many headlines, right, and I have those,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and I have those and they're all related to his bitchiness. Okay,
- 40:07Speaker 1: none related to his play. Wow, they were all related.
- 40:11Speaker 1: It was all Edelman blasts mac Jones for his behavior.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Will Fork blasts Mac Jones for his behavior. None about
- 40:19Speaker 1: so and so blast Mac Jones for thrown the interception
- 40:22Speaker 1: against the Ravens, none of that. And I looked, Believe me,
- 40:25Speaker 1: I looked. But there's there's just a little cross reference
- 40:28Speaker 1: off of one Google search. Okay, all right, conced? So no,
- 40:33Speaker 1: because I know what I heard, But you know what
- 40:37Speaker 1: I don't. I don't blame Fred because I would do
- 40:39Speaker 1: the same thing. Well, I I like I heard people
- 40:41Speaker 1: criticizing Mac Jones. I just I just did in the
- 40:44Speaker 1: media right now. I just told that what it was.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I'm not just talking to criticize his behavior, not his play. No,
- 40:50Speaker 1: I think a lot of people to play was blamed
- 40:52Speaker 1: on the coach. I heard a lot of Is Mac
- 40:54Speaker 1: the guy? He's probably not the guy? You know, Patriots
- 40:57Speaker 1: have decisions to make, you know. Oh yeah, Mason uh
- 41:02Speaker 1: Feller with Jim Murray, those the two that right, that's
- 41:05Speaker 1: one show. That's it. Adam Jones, Adam Jones. I can't
- 41:10Speaker 1: count him because he's always but you know, Adam Jones
- 41:14Speaker 1: actually thinks that Mac Jones. I don't can't see. I
- 41:17Speaker 1: don't even care what any of those guys think because
- 41:19Speaker 1: they're not really reported. They not here. They you know,
- 41:22Speaker 1: they don't go to the games. Yeah, I gave you
- 41:24Speaker 1: a cross cross reference of local guys in national pundits. Yeah,
- 41:29Speaker 1: some of that stuff was from like the Athletic National Um.
- 41:33Speaker 1: There was the coaching question was Mike martz Um. I
- 41:36Speaker 1: think we all saw like the Dani Rolovski and Kurt
- 41:39Speaker 1: Warner stuff. I mean that was embarrassing. I mean I'd
- 41:42Speaker 1: like to see somebody saying that Mac is the guy,
- 41:45Speaker 1: you know, like I don't, right, is the Guylski will
- 41:49Speaker 1: tell you that. I just think it till the cows
- 41:51Speaker 1: come home. Yeah, he has, he has said that. I
- 41:54Speaker 1: think I just think it's of a fair way to
- 41:55Speaker 1: analyze this year series. I can't get past the coaching
- 41:58Speaker 1: staff and what that whole setup was. But even even now, locally,
- 42:02Speaker 1: it's the coaching staff ruined to Mac Jones. Now, I'm
- 42:04Speaker 1: not sure he's gonna be able to recover. Oh he
- 42:06Speaker 1: can't recover from I learned enough about Mac this year.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I think he'll be in a much better situ. Andy
- 42:12Speaker 1: Hart thinks that they broke Mac Jones. That's what I said.
- 42:15Speaker 1: It's not because he can't play, it's because they broke him.
- 42:19Speaker 1: And I don't think he'll be able to be fixed. Right,
- 42:21Speaker 1: that's the new thing. And I'm telling you I've used
- 42:24Speaker 1: this line to Michael Lot already. I'll have my popcorn
- 42:26Speaker 1: ready watching it this year, waiting to see what the
- 42:29Speaker 1: excuse is this year, and I will predict that it
- 42:32Speaker 1: will be. You got to get him some weapons. I
- 42:34Speaker 1: mean you can't. You can't put them out there. I
- 42:36Speaker 1: mean Two's got Tyree Hill and Jalen Waddle and you know,
- 42:40Speaker 1: and Josh Allen has Steph Diggs and you can't just
- 42:43Speaker 1: put him out there. That'll be it, I'll guarantee you.
- 42:46Speaker 1: But what if they don't give him weapons this year?
- 42:50Speaker 1: What if Myers leaves and what if you know, what
- 42:52Speaker 1: if they don't replenish and he's as bad as he
- 42:55Speaker 1: was this year that he can't play. Oh, they don't
- 42:57Speaker 1: make the playoffs, he's okay, he goes back to year
- 42:59Speaker 1: one and then he can't play. Yeah, well, I because
- 43:03Speaker 1: other guys have had less. But is it a fair
- 43:06Speaker 1: like you know, he's not Mahomes and he's not gonna
- 43:10Speaker 1: like raise the level of but can like, as Bill says,
- 43:13Speaker 1: can he be a quarterback in this league? Yes, he
- 43:17Speaker 1: can be a quarterback in this league? Can he be
- 43:19Speaker 1: a good one? Yeah? Can he raise the level of
- 43:21Speaker 1: those around him? And if he can? If you're saying no,
- 43:25Speaker 1: he can't do that, that's not that's not his I'm
- 43:28Speaker 1: just saying, what's a fair evaluation of the guy. I'm
- 43:32Speaker 1: just I'm posing the question. I'm posing the watching his
- 43:35Speaker 1: play and determining whether or not you think he played
- 43:37Speaker 1: well well regardless of personnel. Yeah, but like they can
- 43:40Speaker 1: have a can all right? So let me let me
- 43:42Speaker 1: rephrase that. Can they have a bad record this year
- 43:45Speaker 1: and you're saying he can play? I doubt it. I
- 43:50Speaker 1: doubt it. Yeah. I mean I just think like right
- 43:54Speaker 1: now we're like, is mac Jones maybe hopefully the seventh
- 43:57Speaker 1: best quarterback in the AFC? Like that's the ceiling? Then
- 44:00Speaker 1: let me let me let me how how good of
- 44:04Speaker 1: weapons do the Patriots need with Mac Jones in order
- 44:07Speaker 1: to have a good record in order to be a
- 44:09Speaker 1: playoff contender. I would say they need at least one
- 44:13Speaker 1: really good weapon added to them. What if they don't
- 44:15Speaker 1: give him that, then he's not good enough. I mean
- 44:20Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes has a tight end. Yeah, I mean I
- 44:22Speaker 1: think we would then be flirting though on then getting
- 44:25Speaker 1: going to ever be as good as Patrick. But like
- 44:28Speaker 1: I know're hoping for that, I don't. I don't need
- 44:30Speaker 1: him to be as good as Patrick Mahomes. I need
- 44:32Speaker 1: him to make other guys better, right, But that's a
- 44:35Speaker 1: quarterback's job. But I do think there's a ceiling with Mac.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I think I think any objective observer has to admit
- 44:42Speaker 1: that he's not going to elevate a team like a
- 44:46Speaker 1: Burrow Alan and Mahomes can do. I agree. Okay, that's
- 44:49Speaker 1: where I not being the case. You know, can can
- 44:55Speaker 1: a quarterback like him win in the league? And what
- 44:57Speaker 1: do you need to give him in order to do that?
- 45:00Speaker 1: Francisco's roster I'd say, okay, well, then if you don't
- 45:04Speaker 1: do that, then are you able to fairly evaluate there's
- 45:06Speaker 1: no other team in the league that has that either.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I know I'm saying I have I have stats on
- 45:11Speaker 1: that too, but I don't think you want me to
- 45:12Speaker 1: go in. Is that a fair evaluate Like, so unless
- 45:15Speaker 1: you have the stack roster, you're saying that mac Jones
- 45:19Speaker 1: can't be good in this league. Great, well, he could
- 45:22Speaker 1: play quarter I agree with Bill, he could play quarterback
- 45:24Speaker 1: in the league. Yeah, there are guys that are work
- 45:28Speaker 1: anything of substance. No, well, especially with how the But
- 45:31Speaker 1: that's how I feel it, right, That's not how my
- 45:33Speaker 1: colleagues feel, I know. But that's the thing is like
- 45:37Speaker 1: what will be you know, what's a fair platform to
- 45:41Speaker 1: evaluate him on? I don't know. I don't think of
- 45:43Speaker 1: the Patriots, that's the team that he plays quarterback for.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Just like justin fields. At some point, I know he
- 45:49Speaker 1: doesn't have any weapons. I know Cole Commet is the
- 45:52Speaker 1: best thing he has. Darnell Mooney, Right, at some point,
- 45:55Speaker 1: you gotta win some games, ye Like, if you're going
- 45:58Speaker 1: to be good, you have to lift those around you.
- 46:00Speaker 1: I think he did a lot of things fields, I
- 46:02Speaker 1: think he did a lot of things well last year.
- 46:03Speaker 1: He had an incredible rushing season. But they don't win.
- 46:08Speaker 1: At some point, you got to find a way to
- 46:09Speaker 1: lift those around you. And I think that's why some
- 46:13Speaker 1: people think there's a chance that they will take Bryce
- 46:16Speaker 1: Young or whoever in the with the first pick, the Patriots, No,
- 46:20Speaker 1: the Bears, oh, the Bears. Like I mean, you could
- 46:24Speaker 1: make an argument that he has nothing around. He has
- 46:26Speaker 1: a lot less around than mac Jones does. Ye, it's
- 46:30Speaker 1: tough up there too, because there's no Jamison Williams or
- 46:33Speaker 1: like one of those Jamar Chase top ten right, just
- 46:36Speaker 1: give him all right, So I'm and I'm just asking.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Was twenty twenty two a fair year season to evaluate
- 46:46Speaker 1: mac Jones? I would say, there's definitely things you I
- 46:49Speaker 1: learned about mac Jones this year. I do think that
- 46:51Speaker 1: there are elements that are fair that you know, regardless
- 46:54Speaker 1: of the situation. Yes, but I again I think that
- 46:57Speaker 1: the situation he was put in overshadows it, and in
- 47:00Speaker 1: fairness to him, I don't need to say he's absolutely
- 47:03Speaker 1: not the guy right now. But what I learned about
- 47:05Speaker 1: mac Jones this year didn't make me think any more
- 47:08Speaker 1: than what I thought in twenty twenty one that he
- 47:11Speaker 1: was going to be anything better than maybe the seventh
- 47:13Speaker 1: quarter best quarterback in the AFC. I wouldn't really have
- 47:16Speaker 1: a whole lot to add to what Mike just said.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I think you learned some stuff I put I'm like
- 47:21Speaker 1: everybody else. I put the lion's share of the blame
- 47:23Speaker 1: on the coaching. Yeah, I put the lion's share of
- 47:25Speaker 1: the blame on Bill for structuring it this way. But
- 47:29Speaker 1: what I did learn about mac as Mike kind of
- 47:32Speaker 1: just alluded. I didn't like. I don't like the way
- 47:34Speaker 1: he handled any of it, right, Yeah, I was sometimes
- 47:37Speaker 1: thinking about two driving in this morning of Bill now
- 47:41Speaker 1: hiring the OC, not explicitly saying I made a mistake,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but I think everybody that has followed his team's action
- 47:48Speaker 1: was the season. I feel like this is the first
- 47:52Speaker 1: time you've really had You've got a serious strike on
- 47:55Speaker 1: him now, Like and I'm not saying I want to
- 47:57Speaker 1: get rid of Bill Belichick, but I'm just talking to
- 47:59Speaker 1: the point of, if they don't give him a weapon
- 48:02Speaker 1: this year, or they don't do something to elevate the
- 48:05Speaker 1: offense personnel wise, are we still on that track of
- 48:09Speaker 1: like all right, Bill, like you know, like you're still
- 48:12Speaker 1: kind of doing things your own way. Like, So it
- 48:14Speaker 1: would if the roster was the exact same last year
- 48:18Speaker 1: and they started out in spring with Bill O'Brien, how
- 48:23Speaker 1: much better would they be? In your opinion? Probably a
- 48:25Speaker 1: couple of games, a couple games, but I don't think
- 48:28Speaker 1: anything more than that. I think they probably would have
- 48:30Speaker 1: you know, they they might they might have gotten Miami
- 48:32Speaker 1: first week, you know, a little better offensive performance. There
- 48:35Speaker 1: a couple of games where I felt like the offense
- 48:36Speaker 1: brought nothing to the table in the whole game. And
- 48:39Speaker 1: it's hard to say, oh, well, easily they would have
- 48:41Speaker 1: won this game with that offense. But I think it's
- 48:43Speaker 1: a totally different team the defense. You know, how many
- 48:46Speaker 1: turnovers did the defense give them that they didn't really
- 48:48Speaker 1: do anything with. So I mean, I think they would
- 48:49Speaker 1: have gotten another game or two. I don't think that
- 48:51Speaker 1: they would have been a make noise in the playoffs
- 48:53Speaker 1: type team just yet, but it would have been better
- 48:55Speaker 1: saying they could be a ten and seven team. Yeah,
- 48:58Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think that that's crazy. You know,
- 49:00Speaker 1: that would have absolutely no idea. I really don't know.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I don't. I don't disagree with anything you said. I don't.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I just don't. I just don't know how much it
- 49:09Speaker 1: would have changed. I don't know how much it would
- 49:12Speaker 1: have changed the record. I think their offense would have
- 49:14Speaker 1: been better. They didn't have a coordinator last year. They didn't,
- 49:17Speaker 1: but now they have a respected one, right, And I'm
- 49:19Speaker 1: saying if they did, how much better would they have been?
- 49:22Speaker 1: But if you're saying, I don't know about the record
- 49:25Speaker 1: because I don't know how everything else changes, yeah, well
- 49:29Speaker 1: all that stuff we read about and Karen and Andrew's
- 49:34Speaker 1: article wouldn't have happened all the discord, But I don't know.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I don't know how the rest of the game's unfold,
- 49:39Speaker 1: Like you can't just like plug it. He would have
- 49:41Speaker 1: been good for fourteen more points a game, and that
- 49:43Speaker 1: would have been able to win X, Y and z
- 49:45Speaker 1: more games. Like the game's all team. I know, I
- 49:47Speaker 1: know that's trying to quantify what an offense but full team,
- 49:53Speaker 1: but I think that they know, like the Cincinnati dude
- 49:55Speaker 1: would with the Bengals did in the second half of
- 49:57Speaker 1: that game if it wasn't twenty two to enough that
- 49:59Speaker 1: half other teams play differently too, in different scenarios, you know,
- 50:03Speaker 1: maybe they ratchet it up, you know, like for example,
- 50:06Speaker 1: that that Bills game where they kind of cruise, Like
- 50:10Speaker 1: if the Patriots were a threat, the Bills would have
- 50:13Speaker 1: played that game differently, right, you know, yeah, and maybe
- 50:16Speaker 1: it was worse, you know, like you don't know, And
- 50:18Speaker 1: the same thing i'd say with like the Jets, maybe
- 50:20Speaker 1: you don't need the Marcus Jones kickoff for you know,
- 50:22Speaker 1: part return at the end to win that game. Like
- 50:24Speaker 1: I can say, you know pretty confidently that the offense
- 50:28Speaker 1: would have been better, Yeah, because they didn't have a quintet.
- 50:31Speaker 1: You can't be worse than that. You can't. And that's
- 50:34Speaker 1: where I do give Mac Jones some leeway, like you can't.
- 50:39Speaker 1: I'm not completely heartless. Yeah, but I also look back
- 50:42Speaker 1: and I know no one really does this and no
- 50:44Speaker 1: one agrees, but I look back to the last part
- 50:48Speaker 1: of the twenty one season with Josh McDaniels, the Almighty
- 50:51Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels. They didn't play well and he didn't play well. Yeah, yeah,
- 50:57Speaker 1: have those numbers? Two? All right? Uh? Eight five five
- 51:00Speaker 1: past five hundred is a ticket hot line web radio
- 51:02Speaker 1: at pagris dot com is the email address. Um, I
- 51:06Speaker 1: gotta get going in about ten minutes, but Deuce and
- 51:08Speaker 1: Paul will uh uh the show again. I got some
- 51:14Speaker 1: very important big guy meetings. Uh, Patti's an agawam, what's up?
- 51:19Speaker 1: What's up? Patty? Going on? Though? Hey? Okay, Hey, first
- 51:24Speaker 1: thing's first all, I got a little bit of a
- 51:27Speaker 1: bone to pick with you. Yeah, I know line, I
- 51:31Speaker 1: know Biggie that that's point of his line. But um,
- 51:35Speaker 1: I'm a little bit younger than you are. I'm forty six, correct,
- 51:38Speaker 1: so you're you're just a little bit older than me.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Let's go go with that. Let's go buy centennial babies.
- 51:45Speaker 1: All right. So I have a kid, Evan date, so
- 51:47Speaker 1: you could definitely be Evans father. That's number one. Um,
- 51:53Speaker 1: But just just going on AFC Championship game. One thing
- 51:59Speaker 1: I did not like being was, aside from the uh
- 52:03Speaker 1: the fifteen yard personal foul penalty, I mean that was
- 52:06Speaker 1: pretty agregious. Mahomes was like out in the stands buying
- 52:08Speaker 1: a hot dog when one because he threw himself there, right,
- 52:14Speaker 1: But it just seemed like, um like Casey and I
- 52:18Speaker 1: know they were the home team was getting the majority
- 52:20Speaker 1: of the home you know, majority the flags. You know
- 52:25Speaker 1: you sound distracted, He's going on. He sounds distraught. Yeah, okay, Patty,
- 52:31Speaker 1: you know drunk today. It's not your fault. What are
- 52:36Speaker 1: you doing? Um, just just trying to fix the machine. Okay,
- 52:42Speaker 1: all right, well get back to fixing the machine. He
- 52:45Speaker 1: doesn't sound like he's really done. I just felt like
- 52:47Speaker 1: it sounded like he's doing something else while, you know,
- 52:49Speaker 1: and I demand attention. Yeah, I mean, you know, if
- 52:55Speaker 1: you're calling this show, focus on the show, then you know,
- 52:59Speaker 1: go shine shoes when you're done. Oh uh, Noah's in Toronto.
- 53:04Speaker 1: What's up? Noah? What do you know? Big fan of
- 53:09Speaker 1: the show? Thank you? I just wanted to ask, I
- 53:12Speaker 1: guess a two part questions. What do you think match
- 53:14Speaker 1: You'don's trade value is? And if he could get like
- 53:18Speaker 1: a late first or an early second for him? Um?
- 53:21Speaker 1: Why are we trading match the Patriots would do? But um,
- 53:24Speaker 1: would you consider it? I would absolutely consider it. I
- 53:27Speaker 1: don't think you would get a first round pick for
- 53:29Speaker 1: But why are we trade? Why are we talking about
- 53:30Speaker 1: trading match Udon? Noah? I guess from my perspective, I
- 53:34Speaker 1: don't think they're that close to being a contender, and
- 53:37Speaker 1: I think he doesn't really hit their windows, so I
- 53:41Speaker 1: think kind of get a chance to So so when
- 53:44Speaker 1: you're thinking by the tent, it's gonna take too long
- 53:47Speaker 1: to get good and he won't be around anyway, so
- 53:50Speaker 1: you might as well leverage him now, four or five
- 53:52Speaker 1: year deal. Yeah, I feel like he's kind of one
- 53:54Speaker 1: of the few players on the team where he could
- 53:56Speaker 1: get significant drafts value for kind of above it. So
- 54:01Speaker 1: the Patriots are are in the market here, you're saying
- 54:05Speaker 1: that they're they're they're buyers, right, they're selling, They're sellers,
- 54:10Speaker 1: they're sellers. Yeah. Yeah, I just don't think they're really
- 54:15Speaker 1: close to being contents. Okay, all right, Yeah, it's interesting. Noah,
- 54:22Speaker 1: I don't think, Um, I don't think the Patriots will
- 54:24Speaker 1: be interested in looking to deal him. I think he's
- 54:26Speaker 1: one of their handful of players on defense that they
- 54:30Speaker 1: would build around. But the whole second half thing with him,
- 54:34Speaker 1: I think it's it's two years now, it happened. Um.
- 54:38Speaker 1: You know, the first nine games he had eleven and
- 54:40Speaker 1: a half sacks, thirty five tackles, ten for lost, nineteen
- 54:43Speaker 1: quarterback hits. The last eight games four sacks, twenty five tackles,
- 54:48Speaker 1: four tackles for loss, and only nine quarterback hits. So
- 54:51Speaker 1: the the like those stats just statistically two years in
- 54:57Speaker 1: a row drop precipitously. Now, you could make an argument
- 55:00Speaker 1: that they asked him to do different things. Um, I
- 55:03Speaker 1: think a lot of sacks in that period. I think
- 55:05Speaker 1: Ouch did pick up a lot of sacks, but you know,
- 55:07Speaker 1: some of this is like pressure related stuff, you know,
- 55:09Speaker 1: tackles for lost quarterback hits. Yeah, so I'm not I'm not.
- 55:13Speaker 1: I mean, personally, I'm not overly concerned about Like I
- 55:16Speaker 1: thought he was better down the stretch this year. I
- 55:18Speaker 1: think he was better. This absence kind of fed into
- 55:21Speaker 1: that too a little bit. I think just for next year,
- 55:23Speaker 1: I think you're a couple of pieces away on defense.
- 55:26Speaker 1: But I think that they have a pretty good core
- 55:28Speaker 1: and and I have pretty good confidence just generally in
- 55:31Speaker 1: the coaching side on the defensive side of the ball,
- 55:32Speaker 1: especially cornerback, where I feel like they've done a good job,
- 55:35Speaker 1: you know, developing guys. I think that they need more
- 55:37Speaker 1: talent at cornerback. I'd love to add one more guy
- 55:40Speaker 1: in the box in some variety that's an impact player.
- 55:43Speaker 1: But I think with Judon and Uche and Barmore, you've
- 55:45Speaker 1: got three pretty good pieces to you know, at least
- 55:48Speaker 1: get after the passer a little bit going into next
- 55:50Speaker 1: year and build off what they did. I don't think
- 55:52Speaker 1: that they are I'm not looking at San Francisco or anything,
- 55:54Speaker 1: but I think that they have a pretty good core
- 55:57Speaker 1: right now. And I've just I'd love to see Barmore
- 55:59Speaker 1: next year, just you know, really go off and be
- 56:01Speaker 1: that player. You see guys that are making impact. I mean,
- 56:04Speaker 1: look at all of basically all of Philadelphiastfenstill those guys
- 56:07Speaker 1: are absolutely terrorists, but you know, just the impact. And
- 56:10Speaker 1: he's not Chris Jones, but you just see if you
- 56:12Speaker 1: have one of those guys who's a mismatch up and
- 56:14Speaker 1: down the line that you can move around and get
- 56:16Speaker 1: after the quarterback, they're they're huge, they can make a
- 56:18Speaker 1: huge impact. Williams and Fellam, what's up? William? Hey? Good? Hey,
- 56:26Speaker 1: how are you going? Fall excellent? Just just want to
- 56:29Speaker 1: say this, um, it's just a mess, gentleman. Just how
- 56:34Speaker 1: all this you know getting? I mean we all seeing
- 56:37Speaker 1: a lot of things that what's going to happen. Maybe
- 56:39Speaker 1: we didn't know how to what the outcoming is going
- 56:41Speaker 1: to be with the Patriots, but uh oh god, man,
- 56:45Speaker 1: I just gotta tell y'all this. I think. Do you
- 56:48Speaker 1: think Bill will move on away from Jakobe Meyers, Damian Harris, uh,
- 56:53Speaker 1: Kendrick Boyne. You know people that was like I with Mann,
- 56:57Speaker 1: you know, believing that because you know Bill kind of
- 56:59Speaker 1: a little petty, and he might hold it against them
- 57:02Speaker 1: and might want to get rid of it. I mean
- 57:03Speaker 1: what you think. I don't know, Yeah, I mean so
- 57:06Speaker 1: you're saying, you know, because of speaking out. Um, I'm
- 57:09Speaker 1: hoping they keep Myers. I don't think Myers and Harris
- 57:12Speaker 1: will have anything to do with yeah, pettiness. I think
- 57:15Speaker 1: Harris goes anyway. The free agents and you know, you
- 57:20Speaker 1: get to free agency and yeah, losing guys. We talked
- 57:23Speaker 1: about that, would there be retributions for the guys? That's
- 57:26Speaker 1: that spoken that William. Yeah, yeah, it felt to me
- 57:31Speaker 1: too like one of the I think I think you know,
- 57:34Speaker 1: and we said Bill, but no, no, no, that was
- 57:37Speaker 1: somebody else. My guess. I think, you know, given that
- 57:41Speaker 1: this stuff is happened, I think Bill needs to go
- 57:45Speaker 1: to all his veterans one on one and and talk,
- 57:49Speaker 1: you know, and and say listen, we tried something, it
- 57:52Speaker 1: didn't work. I'm taking the blame. We're moving forward, and
- 57:55Speaker 1: I think he needs to do that with these guys.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Do you think he will? I don't know. I heard
- 57:59Speaker 1: that he he does do that. I don't think there's
- 58:01Speaker 1: any chance of that, Yeah, I don't. I think back
- 58:04Speaker 1: to like the fourth and two play and that's different.
- 58:07Speaker 1: That's that's I mean, he addressed the team and basically said,
- 58:10Speaker 1: don't let anybody will tell you I don't have confidence.
- 58:12Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, but you know, just the fact that
- 58:14Speaker 1: you did this, that's different. That's different. I think thanks William.
- 58:17Speaker 1: No accountability, it's the same. No, I think I think
- 58:21Speaker 1: he will it's might. Yeah, I think it's some form
- 58:24Speaker 1: or fashion. He's gonna let people know that. Yeah, last
- 58:28Speaker 1: year was was on me and we're gonna move forward.
- 58:31Speaker 1: I can't argue that he won't do that. I don't
- 58:33Speaker 1: know what's going to happen. I'm just saying kind of
- 58:36Speaker 1: hasn't really done that in the past. I would just
- 58:37Speaker 1: say too to Kendrick Boorne. I mean, he's still is
- 58:39Speaker 1: under contract for next year. I just wouldn't be in
- 58:41Speaker 1: a hurry to get rid of any guy who's under
- 58:44Speaker 1: contract and as a receiver and can play in the league.
- 58:46Speaker 1: I would It would be more does Billy Billy O want?
- 58:49Speaker 1: What does Billio want to do with him? How does
- 58:51Speaker 1: he see Born fitting in? And if he didn't see
- 58:53Speaker 1: a spot but for the ancillary off the field stuff,
- 58:56Speaker 1: I would not what if bill goes into this season
- 58:58Speaker 1: or this offseason and says those decisions on offense are
- 59:02Speaker 1: gonna be Bill O'Brien's on whether or not to keep Yea,
- 59:05Speaker 1: I'd be Born. Nah, I'd be stunned. That feels like
- 59:09Speaker 1: you're trying to slip out of That's not me that's
- 59:11Speaker 1: gonna cut you. It's gonna be him. Well, not because
- 59:13Speaker 1: of that, just like this is his offense. Now, if
- 59:16Speaker 1: he wants to keep Born, he keeps him despite what
- 59:19Speaker 1: I say, I would start. I want I'm with mat. Yeah,
- 59:21Speaker 1: like maybe Belichick wants to get rid of Born, but
- 59:23Speaker 1: if Bill O'Brien wants to keep him, he stays, yeah,
- 59:26Speaker 1: now you need two guys better than Born. But I
- 59:28Speaker 1: would keep Born. Yeah, yep, I agree. I just wonder,
- 59:32Speaker 1: I don't you know, I mean, it's all optics and
- 59:35Speaker 1: how I mean. I don't want to say he's an
- 59:37Speaker 1: uncharted territory. He's coached the team forever, he's been through
- 59:39Speaker 1: ups and downs before. But I just I do I
- 59:42Speaker 1: wonder how much of that is gonna be made to
- 59:45Speaker 1: make amends with the team, How much of it is
- 59:47Speaker 1: going to be made to make amends with mac Jones.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Not just like, hey, I'm sorry that I could say signings,
- 59:52Speaker 1: you know, I mean, do they over extend themselves a
- 59:55Speaker 1: little bit for Jacoby Myers because Mac loves him. I
- 59:58Speaker 1: don't know, I mean, And I also wonder, you know,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: do you go when you say, look, Mac, we're not
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: gonna be able to resign Jacobe, um, but we're gonna
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: take this money and we're gonna get you know, a
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: player who is moves the needle as far as a
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: you know, a real legit guy. And then I think
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Mac will be like, Hey, I love Jacoby, but I
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: understand the finances of it. And if we're gonna pull
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: some resources and really try to get a guy, then
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: it's you know, how do you not get the conversation
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: with Mac Jones that I could see happening? Because I
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: think Mac Jones is the one that, Yeah, you need
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: to give him a little bit of it needs to
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: be repaired. If your quarterback's not on board, it trickles down.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: He needs to set couldn't agree more. And I think
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that was another part of the reason why I think
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: he bears more responsibility than most give him. Yeah, because
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: he refused to accept it from the start. Uh Sill
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: in Seattle writes and thank you for being honest about
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: what we have at the quarterback position. I've been sick
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: to my stomach hearing this fan base so delusional about
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: this guy. As I've consistently said on this show, this
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: guy shouldn't have been the fifteenth pick the year he
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: came out, and shouldn't be guaranteed anything here. In my
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: experience watching the NFL, it's very rare to see play
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: calling blame for execution. What makes people think Billy Oh
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: can call this guy into Burrow? Well, I don't think
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: he can. Nobody but Oh. I could give you those
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: headlines too, but I didn't prepare today. Um, but anyway,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: I do think um another example of that, you know
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: the way the emailers said, you know, the delusional, you
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: know nature of this. I don't know if you saw this, Freddy,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: but Tyler Huntley backup quarterback for the Ravens. Yeah, he's
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: going to the Pro Bowl as like the seventeenth alter
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: and it like macvid last year. Yeah, um, more than
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: one right of our colleagues Mike Wow, Yeah, you know,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: tongue in cheek. You know Mac Jones was a Pro
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Bowl snub. I never thought I could say this. I
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: think Doug Kites. I never thought I would say this,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: but Mac Jones is a Pro Bowl and I know
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: they're joking. I know it's sarcasm. It's no different than
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: what he ain't, but he wasn't a Pro Bowl snub.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Even with that guy shouldn't have went last year. No,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: but even like this year, he didn't play as good
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: as Tyler Huntley did. Bailey's appe may have been a
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Pro Bowl snub. All right, we're gonna take a break.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Paul got leave. I have to leave. When we come back,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Deuce and Paul will usher you through the last hour.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Lots of emails coming in so planning to talk about
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: and they'll be right back after this. Verizon, the network

- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I don't know what you don't know, No, Beth, that's

- 1:11:58Speaker 1: How did she know it was a good mattress? For you?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: It was a great mattress. How did she know that?
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Because I was on it before we bow? So you know?
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: So what kind it was? I don't Why are you
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: being like Eric and not giving me information? This is
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: what Eric would do. I don't know it's a mattress.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: I don't tell you. First of all, that's exactly the
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: opposite of what Eric would do. Eric would tell you
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: the name of the mattress, and it would absolutely be
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: the most expensive that you've ever heard, not only if
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: only if he really ever think, maybe I don't want
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: to tell you that I spent way more money on
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: a mattress than should be humanly possible with that, because
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: it's embarrassing mattress stuff that you do, Alex. Matresses are important,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: are they not? They are? But I'm saying that as
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: someone whose mattress came from a box at Costco and
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I just pulled it out, and well, you're right, I
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: mean I think, no, I think if you don't weigh
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: a lot that the mattress. The mattress doesn't matter that much.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: It's only when you're heavy, you know. Is it a
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: temper pedic. It's a temper pedic. He sweet, What kind
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: of bed is it, Paul? It's a temper pedic, right, probably? Yeah?
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Does it go up and down to They have like
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: controls on it and stuff, old old person adjustable bed. No,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: but he can change the TV channels with his butt
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: cheeks so he didn't have to move his arms. Yeah, yespan,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: oh Jos song. That's another great moment from it comes
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: back to Jaws in your well timed. That's a pretty
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: good fart impression. Two of himself. I'm pretty two good ones.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Pretty pretty proud of myself on the espan. That's right, folks,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: peeping the deuce ride again here for the last hour.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Let's get to uh yeah, you know what's unfortunate. Yeah,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: we got to ride together for the last hour. And
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: you think that they referee it was a penalty, but
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: that he shouldn't have called it. And I think it
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: was a penalty, but he probably shouldn't have called it.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: That stinks. I know, you could have had a nice,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: like fifteen minute like PFW wouldn't progress, you know, old days,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Um they gotta call it Paul try out. I could
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: try it out. And I've been surprised, um the amount
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: of people because I know that most people around here
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: were probably rooting for Cincinnati. I was so I was
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: surprised with the amount of people that have been like, no,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: like you gotta call it. It was a penal, was
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: a clear Yeah, I know by the letter of the law,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: it was a penalty. It was a clear penalty. There
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: was no like gray area. He was out of bounds
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: when he got contacted. But I do think there's a
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: gray area in that the time of the game, the
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: caliber of the contact, the level of the actual contact
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: to me, would have given them an out. And I
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: don't think there would have been a human cry. Now
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: in Kansas City, they would have been, of course whining,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: but everybody whines. Do you think it was like the
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: hand on the shoulder, because it seems like they tripped
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: like they kind of kit legs and that's why they
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: fell like that. I love But I think he took
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: a die and that's why he went shooting all the
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: way to the bench, because he like propelled himself forward
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: and then Osaire was hurt and I just felt bad.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Was like ad injury to insult in that play. And
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: I got six months or like dark rehab after doing
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: that play, and everybody was sad. You know. They kept
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: showing him on the bench of how said he was
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: and yeah, I think like Hill came to his defense
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: afterwards he feel badly. Well, how about the other guy
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: that was ripping Cratt? Like what else can he do?
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, you're running full speed. I just
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: think it's point it's unrealistic to expect him saying, well,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: as I'm running over, I think he's going out careful
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: and don't touch it. If he goes out of bounds,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I'm probably going too fast to stop, so I need
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: to stop now. It's this all happening in like one second, right,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: It's like a split second decision. With the Super Bowl
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: on the line, I could let him go, and then
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: all of a sudden he goes like eight more yards
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: down the sideline and makes it like a fifty two
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: yard field goal instead. And it was third down, right, Yeah,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: well he got well, but ime, I'm just like it
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: was third and four. He had the first down by
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: the time he got hit, but there was just that
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: increased like a third in the fourth quarter of an
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: AFC championship, that you know, huge moment. I mean like
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: if if they tackled him in bounds, Um, the game's
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: gonna end. So that that's like that, That's how close
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: it was. I just think it's it's easy to sit
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: there and look and say, well, yeah, just feed on
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: the white. That's a penalty, like no interpretation, no nothing,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: whereas the whole game is interpretive, the whole like the
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: whole element of officiating. One armbar by a Bengals lineman
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: is holding and one by a Chiefs lineman is not.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Just like like every play there was a ridiculous pass
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: interference call on Um on the I think, Apple, you
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: love that guy? No, I just like he's always listen.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: He's an average player. I don't want to hear you
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: talking smack or his mom. You know, like I don't
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: know the top over the phones. We got a shot
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: down in Baltimore, hanging on he shot. What's going on? Hey,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: what's up? What's up? Guys? How are you? Um? Well,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: I started, I guess I started the games on a weekend.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: I mean it was I feel like it was that
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: was a penalty, but I feel like it was like
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: like it was like a little shub And I think
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: if that was like Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson, then
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: they probably wouldn't have called that play. Josh Allen definitely
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: wouldn't have gotten it wouldn't have been called. Cam Newton
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: absolutely would not have been called for Cam Newton. The
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: bigger quarterbacks, they didn't get those calls. But I mean,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: I feel like the Bangers they had, they had the game,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: they had the game. But you know, I feel like
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: when you get when you get three, when you get
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: a secondary damn chance, you know, like the odds, you know,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: the ards gonna be in your favor. So I shouldn't
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: congratulate the two. But I'm going I'm going for the Eagles,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: but I'm gonna move on to the Patriots and now, um,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: I really I really don't know what to get excited
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: about for like for the off season and for the
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: season in general, because I don't really know like what
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: to expect or like where can they go, Like is
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: it going to be is it going to be better
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: than this ship which will be like land Shire or
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: why i'd call an exit like I don't really know
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: like what to expect, like what changes, Like I don't
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: really know what to look forward to, just because of
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: like the way that the coaching and every like the
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: way that the team is assembled. So it's just kind
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: of frustrating, you know, but it is exciting because I
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: do want to see what's going to happen. But it's
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: just frustrating because you know it's something might happen, but
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: it might be to something like we don't need, or
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: it's something that a status back even further, like a
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: caller that a caller said something about you don't being traded.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I mean I kind of agree with that, just because
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: like you don't do good play it. But like if
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: he pushed me us to the next level, like if
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: he pushing us, you know further, If not, then why
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: can't we you know, it's a fair point. And that's
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I think that was Noah's point. He didn't feel like
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: the team would be in position to win a title
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: while Judeon is still a big part of the defense,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: so why not see if he can get something for him.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: If you think you can make a good trade, I'm
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: not opposed to it. Yeah, thanks for shod well and
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I would just say too, like, I mean we're you know, oviously,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I mean started yet you got eleven. Yeah, I'd rather build.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I'd rather build on the team than strip away from it.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: I think if you know what happens if you resigned
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: to Jacoby Myers, but you also were able to acquire
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: you know, DeAndre Hopkins or T Higgins, Like, I'm just
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: a guy, Like, yeah, a number one guy. So now
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it's T Higgins, it's Jacoby Myers,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: it's Kendrick Bourne, it's DeVante Parker with a second year
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Taekwon Thornton and an offense who might be better, and
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: maybe you can get with the first round. You get
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: Scronsky from Northwestern, who, by all accounts is I can't
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: miss left tackle prospect, right yep. So I know he's
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: supposed to go in the top ten, but no, strange
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: things happen. You never know. You plug him in and
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: he's a starter from day one that bolsters the offensive line.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Cole Strange is a lot better in year two. He's
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: got an actual offensive linker. Right, and then you're well coordinated,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: and maybe I am wrong on mac Jones, and maybe
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: you increase the talent level around him just a little bit.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: You don't have to have a stacked San Francisco roster
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: and all of a sudden he looks like a pro bowler. Yeah,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: that's that's I mean, it's not crazy and also like
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: you know, crazy barmore Marcus Jones. I mean to see
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: what Marcus Jones is going to do next year, how
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: they're going to use them, you know, for me, those
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: are those are exciting pieces too. I mean I wish
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: I could say, and I mean I know I'm preaching
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: to the choir on Thornton. I wish I could say
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: I'm really excited about what he might be able to
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: do in year two. I mean, I haven't given up
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: on him, but I don't have that kind of excitement
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: that I have for Marcus Jones, where I know he's
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: a player in this league. I know he's going to
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: contribute to this team. I'm not sure on Thornton yet,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I don't know if he's a boss he's going to
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: be able to contribute it all. Uh is that speed
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: going to translate? How's Billy Oh gonna use them? You know,
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: I mean think that's the Maybe he'll look better with
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Billy maybe you know, that's what's over quarterback. You don't know,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: you know, the problems with route running. Maybe a good
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, well coordinated system who knows what to improve everything.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: I mean, I think that was part of two what
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: we there were so much complaints about, You're just not
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: putting guys in position to be successful. You're not putting
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: guys to play to their strengths, except for maybe Parker,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: which I feel like they got it, Like, yeah, that's
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: what they did, what they figured plants and go routes
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: down the sideline. I mean, you know a couple of
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: overs and unders and whatnot, but yeah, they use what
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: he is, I mean, and he's a piece, you know,
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: I don't think he's he's you know, I like, I
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: know a lot of people talking about t Higgins and
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I mean I see, you know, like a number one
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: caliber receiver. But you know, there's no question that could
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: be upgraded. But do I think they're going to do
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: it this year? I think they'll probably handle them. But
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: but you know, with with all that stuff too, you know,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: and do I think all of it's going to happen. No,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: But like in that league, more than a lot of
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: the other leagues. You can do it in a blink. Yeah,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: you can go from me to really good in a blink.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Like Philadelphia went from ment to really good. They were
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: a nine and eight playoff team last year and they're
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: really good now. And are they the best team in football?
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I don't know, but they were in the they're the
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: top five, right. It's so funny you say that. I
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: rememberhen we were down in Philly watching presee the training camp.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: I was I didn't any have any beat on that
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: being a good team. It just felt like they were
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: one of the people in the middle trying to figure
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: out if Jalen Hurts was even gonna work for them.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Uh it did? It did happen? So and I think
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: a lot of people would have looked at Jalen Hurts
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: and said, no, like, he's not going to be what
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: they think he can be. He can't he can't throw
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: at that level. Well you throw at that level, sure,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: did you know? And you combine that with his dynamic
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: rushing ability a thousand yard rusher with how many touchdowns?
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Like yeah, like that That's why I wouldn't go Now,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: if the off season unfolds and they're not able to
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: get any of these kinds of pieces, and then the
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: draft comes and you know, yeah, it's more twenty twenty
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: two than twenty twenty one, like it's well, even if
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: it's but even if it's a good draft, now you're young.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: You know, they've been an old team the last several years.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: If if now you're going off of twenty one, twenty two,
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: twenty three, that's the nucleus of your team. Now, maybe
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: you could convince me, you know, take a guy like
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Jude On. Yeah, see if you can add you know,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: like you didn't get anything in free agency, we're going
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: into the draft. Maybe you can get a second round pick.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: I think it's probably less than that because I think
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: he's he's on the other side of thirty, right, I
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: think he's like right at thirty. Maybe. Yeah, so I
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: think he's a good player, but I don't think he's
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: thought of as as as a great player around the league.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Maybe you could get something for him. I don't know.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: I almost just one him this because he makes it fun,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: like he's one of the only guys with some real
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: personal right right now. I wouldn't even entertain the thought
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: of trading him, not because I think he's a great player.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: But because I think he is. He's part of what
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: makes you, you know, makes you good on deef events.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Hold on to that cores, hoping that what you saw
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: in the last half of the season with Uch is
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: real and see if he can build her on that.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna grab Eldrid, Bubba, but remind me to get
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: back because I have a question for you some mus
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: think about can do it after after Eldrid, Hey, Eldred,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: how you doing? Man? There? It is? Hey, Mikey doing man? Sorry?
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: Throw you off there. I'm split, man, I'm split, and
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm really split. We'll just h Paul.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I agree with you. If some weapons, you know, they
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: might say, okay, he needs a weapon if he because
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: he didn't have them, whatever. But if you can't get Higgins,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: what I'm split on is the fIF fourteenth pick. Were
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: this Quentin Johnson ACU the wide receiver, Yeah, the number
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: one corner, the Van Whistlespoon out of Illinois, a good
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: man corner that could tackle and we need that too,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: you know, and that tackle you're getting stuck and third
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: round I don't care. I want the first round. Offensive alignement.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: You know you need some you need some playmakers. Yeah,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: and that's what I'm looking at, you know. But I
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: would mind having that gay from t TU. But according
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: to the draft, he's going He's going thirteen the Texas
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: to Houston and de Land is going to Washington on
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: twenty one. So we missed out on him. Maybe. Like
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: I said, we're in fourteen. I don't like that tight
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: end pick, you know, because you need somebody on the
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: outside during the seam in the middle, seed somebody on
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: the outside the open up the middle. Like I've been
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: saying for about fourteen years. You know that Eldred loves
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: his wide receivers, right, Oh yeah, But Higgins, I don't
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: think he's gonna leave Cincinnati because a boy got hurt.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: And you see what that offense or receiver corps looked
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: like when you can just come front on Chase and Higgins.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: So I don't think they'll let him get out of them.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: They're gonna think gone out a way to pay him
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: or get my friendly deal and then pay him next year.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: That what I think. That's what I would do. I
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: want I would let thet go go nowhere. I would
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: I would do my best to keep that that. Like
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: I said, the integrity of that talent base in place
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: for a couple of years and take a run at it,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: take some good, good stabs at winning it, and then
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: go from there. Absolutely. Okay, one more question and let
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: y'all go. Yeah, I know if I keep assuming they acting,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: But do you really think Billy O'Brien on draft day
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: coutell Bill? Now, Bill, we don't want that guy out
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: of Wisconstable, whatever, but we need this guy right here
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: that I know can play. You think that you might
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: have a chance to say that and do that. I mean,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: I would hope so, I mean, I don't know about
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: within the moment, but I would hope he's involved in
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: the draft process, and you know they're all on the
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: same page of what they want, what kind of I mean,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: I think we're all on the same page of what
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: we want, what we think that they need. But um,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I think they showed last year
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: with Thornton. I mean, I didn't love the pick, but
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: at least it shows some understanding and trying to get
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: more explosive, I guess, But just a couple of points
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: you thanks, I would appreciate it. Um Witherspoon two is
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: I was I'm starting I'm starting dipping the draft little
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: earlier this year, Paul Um. But that Witherspoon kid, I
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: like him. He's he's down at the Senior Bowl this week,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: and I think there's not really a huge consensus right
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: now on the cornerback class, and he has one that.
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: I mean, I would listen to PFF's breakdown. Those guys
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: had him as their top one. Um other teams, like
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Elder said in the twenties. But I do think it's
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: conversation right now with the tackles, the three like Roderick Jones,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Paris Johnson and Scornsky, those three guys, and then what's
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: gonna side. Yeah, look, Crest Fallens more of an offer
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: um shaking of the head uh. And then the receivers.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: I mean you've heard za Zay Jones, but that these
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: are kind of the three positions you're looking on in
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: the first round and just in my limited kind of
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: as I've dipped my toe in, especially with those tackles
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: you brought up, Scronsky. Um, you know there are some
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: guys Paris Johnson, Paris Johnson say those three Broderick Jones,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: probably Georgia guy. Right, Brodick Jones, big guy. Um, I
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: mean Paris Johnson, I think six eight Broughdick Jones is
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: six six, but you know, just prototypical tough. Um. You
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: gotta love with Georgia guy being in the sec um.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: You know, I can't imagine we drafted the Northwestern guy.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: Though the MLB might have to come back and give
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: us the scoop on on the wildcatch. I mean, you
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: just look at the last one was a home run.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: You know. Rashaan Slater in the first round for the
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Chargers was was really good as a rookie and then
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: he unfortunately got hurt missed a lot of the year
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: this year. But I just look at there's a chance
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: that they can plug some of these holes quickly, and
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: I don't dismiss that. And then you know, then it's
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: going to be up to Mac Jones to make a leap. Yeah,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: give them ball, make it happen. Let's uh, let's head
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: out to Bolton, say how to Mark? Hey? Mark, what's
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: going on? Hey guys? Um, I don't want to get
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: into the micro of the draft and free agency just yet.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: I'm good, No, we're not. We're not there yet either,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: But I am really more excited than most on the
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien of signing. And here's why I really want
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: to see the Patriots offense be the Patriots offense that
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: I know again, and that is incorporate aspects of two
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: thousand and eleven with the two tight ends of Gronk
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: and number you know, eighty one. Unfortunately they don't have those. No. Yeah,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: I know that he's not that the hunter. Henry is
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: not Grounk, but he is a good a good middle
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: of the field tight end and he's got to get
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: something out of John Smith. So they just got to
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: cut him and and just move on from their loss.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: I mean, the guy has athletic says if he had
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: touchdowns in yards the arya before they got him. I
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: don't like how the guy looks, but I think that
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: O'Brien has gonna has a bunch better chance to get
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: something out of those two to start off with. And
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: that's just to start. We haven't had a real Patriot
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: slot receiver in three years. I loved Kobe Myers. He
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: was my pick of the draft of the of the
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: like what you consider like a real slot receiver, Like
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: what is like a slot why? Because he doesn't get
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: open quick enough really, and he's not explosive to dominate
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: the middle of the field. Well, then they never had
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: a good slot receiver then, because they never had an
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: explosive one who's dominated the middle of the field. Because
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: the guy they've never had one. If that's the definition
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: of a slot receiver, they don't have that kind of player.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: They don't have Brandon Cooks, they don't have Christian Kirk. Right,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: that's an explosive slot receiver, not Wes Welker, not Julian
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: edel They gave up the second round pick for him.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: He was he was uncoverable, right, So is Myers five
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: yards of pattern? Right? Myers does the same thing. He
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: catches everything that's thrown to him that he moves the
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: change consistently. They just don't have anything else. That's the difference.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: They have nothing else with him that they can rely on.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: It's just him eight hundred yards year after year because
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: they have nothing else. Like, this whole slot receiver thing
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: is really driving me batty too, I'll tell you that
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: right now. Because we haven't done anything on the spot.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: And if you don't improve your talent base around the slot,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: it will stay that way. You can let Myers go
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: I have Nope, I'm not married to Myers. As much
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: as I love the guy, I think the kids are terrific.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I love the player, but I'm but I'm I don't
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: want to give him fifty million either, So I'm fine
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: letting him go. But you're gonna bring in someone else
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: to replace him. You're gonna bring in Zay Flowers, and
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: you're gonna have the same thing because you don't have
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: anybody to occupy. You don't have Randy Moss to help
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: Wes Welker, you don't have Rob Gronkowski to help Julian Edelman.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: You don't have those guys. No, No, you don't have
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Moss and you don't have Gronkowski. But there was years
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: that the pages still survive with pedestrian outside receivers and
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: and and just had all three of those things cooking
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: at once. I mean, even Edelman down in twenty eighteen,
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: two sixteen, we didn't have anything great on the outside. Yes,
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: we had Gronk, and that was the worst offense that
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: you had in any of your Super Bowls because you
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: didn't have because you didn't have the healthy guys around him,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: and you also wouldn't have won the Super Bowl without Gronk,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: of course not. I mean Edelman was the MVP. He
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: was great in that game, right, yes, I mean, if
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: I recall, he had like eleven four, one hundred and
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: forty someond how many points they score three until Gronk
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: stepped into the game in the fourth quarter. Right. Absolutely,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: they don't have that. They don't have that guy to
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: stretch the field, to occupy the defense. They have Jacoby
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: Myers catching passes, getting first downs, but having a hard
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: time in the red zone, having a hard time consistently
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: maintaining drives. It's not because of Kobe Myers. It's because
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: they don't have anything else. And I also think what
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: made those slot receivers great. They were, they were really good.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: But what made them great players Troy Brown, Wes Welker,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: Danny Ammondla Julian Edelman was Tom Brady. It wasn't as
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: good even though Welker caught a million passes in two
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: thousand and eight when Matt Castle was the quarterback for them,
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: they didn't win as many games. They weren't as successful
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: because Brady's just special, and I think to run your
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: team around that in Mark, I'm not I know it
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: probably sounds like I'm like picking up. I'm not. This
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: isn't directed Yeah yeah, no, no, no, like I don't.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: This is like I just think that everybody thinks the
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: secret sauce is Bill O'Brien's back. We're gonna go two
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: tight ends in a slot receiver, and no one's taken
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: into consideration just how much less talented the pieces are
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: that are here now are than they were then, including
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: most importantly the quarterback. If I had Tom Brady in
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: his prime, I'd be absolutely looking for, you know, a
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: duplication of that kind of an attack, because when I've
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: watched Tom Brady in Tampa Bay this year, it's all
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: these little dump offs and then deep shots and it
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: hasn't worked. I would go back to what Brady does best,
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: like Chris Godwin before the ACL. I'll take that in
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: the slot when he had explosiveness, and he's gonna, you know,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: be a thousand yard receiver in the slot with someone
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: to occupy some Yeah, you know some of the coverage
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: over the top, and I don't I'm not sure they
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: have that. Well yeah, but when when we Yeah, but
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: I would I agree with you. I think we're missing
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: pieces all over the place, and I didn't want Thornton
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: last year. I was wrong. I'm like drugs. Last week
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: with my surgery, I went out, I called Perkins Pickens.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: I'm coming down from that now, thank god. But anyway,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: you know, I'm sorry screwed that up. It was. It
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: was Pickens that I wanted. But it doesn't mean that
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Thornton can't be explosive as a player. And I'm hoping
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: for that. But also that's what you have to hope for.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Absolutely mark him. But but not only that, we haven't
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: had a third down back mndre Steven since my guy.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: I'm the one who said he's the most complete back
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: we've had since Curtis Martin, and that was after his
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: first you know, the end of the I would add
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: that to my list of things that you had then
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: that you don't have right and we gotta and we
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: gotta get it. But these things are gettable. You know, uh,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: you know, a Darryl Sprowles type player, you know, you know,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: dou Spawn in a case states, weren't these crazy waterbuck players.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: And I was the only thing when I was trying
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: to get to as well, I was encouraged about what's
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: going coming out of the Shrine game is that the
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Patriots supposed Lee chose to look at the scatbacks and
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: the East chose to look at the power backs. So
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: I think they're getting on that wavelength of we need
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: a scat back, we need to we need a slot,
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: we need an explode, we need somebody who can, who can,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: who can break free. And I think that O'Brien believes
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: that Mac Jones the guy that can or that drink,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: and that's you know, and that's where I'm at. That's
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: from my hope. Is that all right? And I guess
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: I'm more up on Mac Jones than most. Yeah, well
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: that's that's uh, that's good. I think Mark gives us
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: a lot to uh to chew on. Thanks, Thanks, Mark,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: appreciate it. Would you be okay, duce with um time Montgomery,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: I wouldn't be a posted to. I mean he seemed okay.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: I mean as a as a stop gap, I don't
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: think that. I I mean, I'm getting into this call now.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: I kind of let you guys. I'd let him, you know,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: I let you get get after it. People were asking
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: me the same thing because we talked about it last weekend.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: I think I mean my response was like, I think
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: that sometimes when we talk about slot receivers, it gets
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: put into all we really need is a day three
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: white guy who runs a really fast three cone and
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: we'll be fine. That's what drives me crazy. And that's great.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: You can have one of those guys. And I love Mark,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: you know, and God bless him for actually doing some homework.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Deuce Vaughan from Kansas State, sign me up in the
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: fourth or fifth round. Yeah, I'll absolutely take a guy
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: like that. Now. You could tell me, because I haven't
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: looked at all. You could tell me. You could go
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: on the Draft Network site and he's supposed to go
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: in the second round, and I'd be like, oh, yeah, well, yeah,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: that's I don't don't blame me. I just identify talent,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, but yeah, I understand
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: what Mark is saying. I just think that people overlook
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: all of those pieces. They overlooked the Brady part of it. Sure,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: And and I the complimentary point I would say to
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: that too, was like, by the time you had Julian
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: Edelman converting third and fourteens in the Super Bowl, like
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: they had been playing together for five years. Like, not
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: only is Tom Brady great, but like they were completely
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: like symmetry. As far as playing the game, I mean,
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: he just you can't what did Brady do with that
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: Super Bowl against Seattle? Fourteen throws to Shane Vereen? You
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: want to keep doing that? You want to keep backing off,
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: you want to keep backing off, you want to keep
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: backing off. You're just gonna take this there. I'm gonna
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: take the easy money. Then when you take that away,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: we're gonna make the place that we need. We're gonna
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: go downfield. We're gonna get a one on one matchup
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: with Gronk on the outside on whatever the linebacker was.
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: I forget so kJ Wright, Yeah, one of those linebackers.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna take my one on one out wide. I
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: haven't seen the evidence that Mac Jones could. Here's what
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: my larger question would be. Okay, and I don't have
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: the answer to this. And if Evan was here, I'm
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: sure he would have a little bit more of a
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: background on a lot of the other systems. Okay, who
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: would you consider to be the better offenses for football
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: right now? And there're no wrong answers here, obviously, sure, Well,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: Kansas City, I mean Kansas City Buffalo, San Francisco when
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: they have a healthy quarterback. Um, Cincinnati, Buffalo is a
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: little unique to me, you know, Philadelphia. I'm just I'm
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: just battling off the most productive offenses. Which one of
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: those offenses do you think is predicated on the tiny
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: slot receiver in the third down pass catching bag? Yeah? None?
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Uh yeah, that's it's about studs. I mean, that's why.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: And as much as people want to say this is
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: what we need, we got to get this guy or
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: this kind of like you just need talented weapons right now.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: And the theme that I hit on in the in
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: the mail bag, just because someone asked about the slot
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: thing and as like I don't want it to get
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: lost in that is that I feel that this offense
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: needs quickness, like and that's you know, and I know
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: that that's often a thing with three cone and all that,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: I don't really care like that it has to be
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: a slot receiver. They just are so slow off the
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: line of scrimmage as an offense across the board, and
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: that's just a trait that I want. Now. It can
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: just be a why or extra you know Z receiver
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: that's going to be outside and you know, can get
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: off the ball and get open quick. That's fine, doesn't
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: have to be a you know, the the day three slot,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: but it just I want quickness. And that's also another point.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Was you know they mentioned Mayor the tight end from
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: from Notre Dame. It's like I wouldn't totally ruin that out.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't totally run I just I'm just not if
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: you really think he's anywhere, if you really think though
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: he's that you know, I don't say he's gonna be cronk,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: but if you really believe he's a tight end that
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: can block and that can catch him, will rated tight
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: end in the class? I think so, I haven't. I've
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: seen a lot of it. Just somebody wrote a different
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: thing on him and I and I guess maybe I
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: was swayed by the email a little bit of just
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: you know, if you think that he's that guy. Though,
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: I don't want to get caught up in say you
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: need you just need guys that like you rent down,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: you've got Vereene, you've got problems that you can go
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: to him from Georgia. And I know he's not draft eligible.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: That would be different from me, like he's dynamic. I mean,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: maybe I don't know. I'm not able to. I'm just
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: saying that theory doesn't even have to be an outside
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: it could That's that's a bad comment for me because
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: I didn't do enough. But I think it But it
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: goes to your point Paul is saying that it was
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: gronk like you know what I mean, Like it can
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: be a tight end too. It doesn't have to be
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: this prototypical you know, built in the lab receiver that
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: you know, you know, if the k matcalf it can
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: be a different position. It could even be and then
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: this is a huge stretch, but it could be that's
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: that receiving back, you know. I mean, you have to
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: be probably Ladanian Tomlinson, but it could be you know,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: like it could be it's you just you can't put
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: it in a box they need. Like I thought Stevenson
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: might have had the chance to be a little bit
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: more than that. Yeah, and I don't think he was.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: I think he was sort of average as a pass catcher. Um.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: But the other part of it isn't I hear a
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: lot of people talking about like, well, when they were
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: great offensively and this is what and they didn't necessarily
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: have the high powered reason yeah, fifteen years ago, it
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: was like Dion Branch and David Gibbons with Troy Brown
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: running around, you know, and yeah, when you know, you
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: won games twenty to seventeen on a consistent basis because
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: your defense was great, your offense never made any mistakes,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: and when Brady needed to make plays in crunch time,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: he never failed. It was a secret sauce for oh
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: three and oh four. You know, we had Corey Dylan
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: and Old four running for sixteen. Yet the game hasn't
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: played that way anymore. It's not you know, I don't
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: even think the game has played all that similarly to
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: like the eleven team that used the two tight ends
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: and that you know, pedal to the metal up tempo
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: that Billy O you know, sort of introduced that year.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: And they were really good. I mean they had they
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: had I mean obviously Gronk and Hernandez were excellent, you know,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: and they take they still had, they still had Welker,
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: they still had Danny Danny Woodhead as a really good
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: pass catching back that year, so they had the elements
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: and play. I don't even like I said, like you
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: watch Kansas City play, is it all predicated on a
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: third down passing back and a slot receiver. They have
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: those things like they have versatile pieces like Sky Moore
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: and Nicole Hardman, and they have a great tight ending
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: in Kelsey. But it's not like just this dinkin Duncan.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: You have to make plays. Cincinnati certainly doesn't play like that.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Buffalo certainly doesn't play like that. Philadelphia. It's more about
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: big place to a J. Brown and Tavante Smith and
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: Hurts using his mind to pick the matchup. Did you
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: see some of those clips of what he did in
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: the Running Game manipulating Fred Warner the other day? Fred
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: Warner one of the best linebackers, um you know in
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: the game, and he had them in in a like
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: a blender the whole game with his mind. No, no, no,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: I know I am. You know. As much as I
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: think he's a good looking guy, he also could he
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: also a pretty smart guy. He's a smart guy. He's
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: got great eyebrows. Let's let's jump over to John and Ducksbury. Hey, John,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: sorry for making a whole different That's all right, Paul
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: went off, Tom covering on me. I know what are
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: we gonna do? You know? I just I want to
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: talk about the free agents. But uh, I want to
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: make a point quickly on on my home. There was
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: no way he had a high ankle spring. You cannot
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: run like that and you cannot backbedal like that. I've
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: sprained my ankles three or four times, both of them,
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: and you can't move, you know, did you ever get
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: shot up? No? No, if you can't feel it, you
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: can move. He had a I mean, you can't tell
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: me they're faking this. He couldn't move. He was cobbling
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: around the whole game. Yeah. No, but especially when he
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: ran out of bounds when he gets keep shot it
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: at the end there he was smlying around there flying.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: You will run like that with an ankles a high
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: ankle sprain. Yeah, I don't. I don't think he was flying.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: And I think he's very much injured and he's built different.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: We'll see what happens during the course of these two weeks.
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: We'll probably get some video of him. If he looks
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: like he's moving around a little better, I'll feel better
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: about Kansas City's chances. If he's moving like he did
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: in that game against Cincinnati, I think that defensive line
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: will own him. Yeah. And the other thing is I
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: want the point I want to make. They have to
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: sign Jacobe and Jonathan Jones because they're gonna have a
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: void with those guys. They've got to get plaint because
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: you can't let guys go just because they're not Randy Moss.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: Are you know, Daryl Reevas? Yeah, you've got to sign
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: these guys. Yeah, yeah, I get it. John. I think
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: it'd be unfortunate if you lost these guys. And it's
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: you know, on one hand, I say, like, you can
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: resign those guys, well, what were you with them? It's
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: like the Red Sox, the Red Sox big offseason move,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: Raffy Devers. I love Rafael Devers. I think he's a
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: tremendous young hitter. But I had him last year and
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: finished in place, and now I let everybody else go
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: and I resigned him, and I feeling good about this. Why. Yeah,
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: but they need stependary guys, Paul too, you know, yeah,
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: they need an infusion of talent. We all know that. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: but you know, I mean, I don't want to hear
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Belichick say, well, you know, we get Afford Jacoby Mayers
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: after he paid twenty two million dollars the AGLA and
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: he had one seventy game one. No, not enough. Thank John,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: appreciate the call. I could see both those guys walking.
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: I mean, I get what he's saying. I mean I
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: get what John saying too. I especially with Myers, like
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: with with Jones, like Jones a little older, You've given
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: him a couple of contracts already. I mean I I
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: just feel like, like I think kind of to your
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: point of having to take a little bit of a
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: half step back to take a full step forward. And
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: as much as I love Jacoby, I I did as
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: much focus this offseason is considering do you want to
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: extend on when you and dugger, you know, like those
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: are moves that you know you're looking at next year.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I get with Myers, it's a really hard decision to make.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: And on one hand, you'd say we found this kid.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: He developed, he was productive every year he was here,
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: no matter who was playing with. But at the same time,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: is this is is this gonna make us better? Is
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: this gonna put us over the top? I don't. That's
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: where the debate can kind of be. And then I
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: think I did I say it on the ear out there?
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: I think I wish Bourne was the free agent, like
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: I wish it could just because if you could, just
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: if I felt like, if you have Myers, Thornton and
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: and and uh and what's his face? Parker Parker, Like
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: it's pretty interesting three to start with. You definitely need
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: a stud in that group. But like, I like what
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: you have to start with there. But but I do think,
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: you know, and this is one of those like I
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: guess I'm guilty of being a fraud because like the
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: whole like Bill O'Brien's gonna fix everything, I'm sort of
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: you know, and I loved it, But I do wonder
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: can Billy'll fix Kendrick Bourne? Like can he look at
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: that guy and say I can work with this, Like
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: I can make him a like a two instead of
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: a three or an inconsistent complimentary piece. I can get
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: more out of him than It feels a little bit
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: of a coin flip to me on every guy of
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: is he going to be better or worse under Billy? Oh?
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: Like I feel like that's a you know, for every
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: guy on the roster, maybe they're better or maybe they're
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: not part of what I don't think born like Parker,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: I think is what he is. Parker will make some plays,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: there'll be games where he shows up, there'll be games
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: that he misses for injury, and at the end of
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: the day, everybody will say he's all right born I
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: think can. I don't want to move him around. I
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: don't think him. I don't think one is special. Like
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: I don't think you're gonna be looking at him as
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: an all pro, But I think he could be if
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: he could get consistent presence in the game plan. I
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: think he has the ability to make guys miss after
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: he catches it, make plays. I think he can get downfield.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: I think he can catch short balls. I think he
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: could be a valuable piece in a good offense. If
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: you're asking him to be the guy, the man, then
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: I think you're gonna be just like you were last year.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: And I have some intrigue with him with a real
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: offensive coordinator who I feel I can position him to
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: get him the ball. And on the flip side of
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: that coin, though, I feel like John U. Smith, for
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: the first two years he's been here, everything is scheme
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: to get the ball to him, like it's always it's
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: never just he was the third guy in the progression
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: and he was open and Mack hit him right in stride.
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: It's right. This was a play that specifically was gonna
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: get Johnny wan and under route and let him rout
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: the sideline. You know, can he produce in the conventional
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: offense with this billowbird? You know? With what billow It's
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: a great point, you know, I think it's a great
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: point when you have you have an adult in the room,
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: for lack of a better term, can he get more
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: out of some of these pieces than than you were?
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: And I think you're getting another great interesting sample too
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: from some of these free agents that you got or
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: you know, all these guys included, and I'd say my
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: expectations that Hunter Henry in the red zone will be
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: back to more where he was in twenty twenty one.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: But what was born and in twenty one he had
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: eight hundred yards? Right? Oh god, I don't know, you know,
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: was Josh McDaniel. So like, I think that's like to me,
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: that's a reasonable base, Like he can be a sixty
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: some odd catch guy for eight hundred plush yards with
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: with a real offensive coordinator. And now that you have
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: seen a lot of these guys, not only with Josh McDaniels,
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: who at that point you can certainly say all right, Well,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: it's still kind of the run in that old offense,
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: and it might be kind of tough for guys, and
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: you know, but now you're going to see them with
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: not only Josh McDaniels, but with Bill O'Brien, another offensive
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: coordinator who you know, has been more places than Josh McDaniels, has,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: has a little more exposure to the college game. So
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: I think you're gonna get even more potential for what
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: what these guys Kenner can't do. Now you're gonna have
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: a whole new sample size. Who do you think you
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: average more per catch? Myers or Born this year? Yeah,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Born on this one. Yeah, you're right,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: twelve point four to twelve about the same, right, Like,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: And I just think that just to get back to
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: the like, what do you think you're exactly as a
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: slot receiver? Like, that's a pretty productive slot receiver twelve
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: yards per catch? Like Welker had years where he was
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: like in the Nines, And Welker was incredible at moving
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: the chains. Edelman incredible moving the chains. Those guys were money.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: I think Myers has been money for you. They just
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: don't have anything else. Yeah, it's an interesting to beate
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: because that mean I think he wins with his head
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: a lot too. And you know it's just it's like,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: as effective as he is, I don't think either one
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: of us see him as like a player than anybody.
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: Like I mean maybe on third down, I would say, you, guys,
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: what I would worry about Myers a little bit is
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: I don't think athletically he's at the at the high end.
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: So when you get four years into your career, yeah,
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: do you start to you know, like Bill always says,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: you're either getting better or you're getting worse. So at
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: some point you get to the point where you start
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: to level off and you go down the other way.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: And I think, and I always use my age old
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: example for this, Vincent Brisbee. Remember Vincent Brisbee was a solid,
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: complimentary receiver who was kind of slow at his best,
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: was he Yeah, it's so funny when he lost a step,
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: he was almost useless because he could no longer separate.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: He went from catching like eighty balls to like nothing.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: It's funny as he had leg leg issues and slowed down,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Like I worry about like with the guy like Myers
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: takes a lot of punishment those injuries that we read
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: about in that Herald story about his knee. We know
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: we had shoulder problems at one point earlier in the year.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: Like did those start to take a toll? So? Yeah?
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Like would I want to give him a hundred million
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: dollars contract? No, I wouldn't. As much as I love
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: him and his father. Um, I think he's a really
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: great story, but I wouldn't want to pay him like that.
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: If he can get that on the open market, I
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: think the Patriots have to say, you know, best of
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: luck to you. You know, we wish you all the
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: all the best. That was one more side point I
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: was gonna make. Um, yeah, Mahomes Mahomes super Bowl long halftime,
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: long game. Oh yeah, I might have to shoot him
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: up twice twice get him ready to a good point. Uh,
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: sorry for going some of the emails here. Let's jump in.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: Fred's is gonna be mad at me? Um? Joe and
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Michigan's asking if there's a Cooper cup of available in
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: the draft or free agent. I'm not there yet, Joe.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: I don't know if Paul definitely not free I don't
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: know about the draft, but free agency. Jacoby Myers is
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: he's by a lot of accounts. I wouldn't say all
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: by a lot of accounts. The best free agent available, Yeah, right, yep, Um,
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: David and Bethlehem. There's a couple of questions here. Um,
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: I like this one. The order of importance in the
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: draft left tackle, cornerback, wide receiver. I mean, I think
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: everybody's on that tackle, cornerback, wide receiver. Yeah. I might
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: flip flop the let the last two, but yeah I
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: like those three. Yeah, me too, me too. And that's
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: it's just it's tough to see a wide receiver at
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: fourteen unless they you know that. I think that's what
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: I'm kind of coming to. I could maybe see some
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: of the cornerbacks, definitely see some of the tackles. Um,
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: and then we're still waiting on Clem or Wendell or
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: door number three as he says, in terms of the
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: offensive line coach. Not sure what's going on there, but
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: you know, and I saw Phil Perry wrote today like,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: you know, why is Billy Yates not in that mix? Yeah?
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: Just I think he's the only been there a year,
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: maybe that experienced thing perhaps. Um with Bill O'Brien. This
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: is from Matt and Madison with Bill O'Brien coming in.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Does the offense have the ability to get together earlier
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: since he's a new coach? Is that part of the protocols?
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: I don't believe. So, No, that's I know it's a
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: head coach heading coach. Um, we can work around that then,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: I now, Paul, this is a good quote from Jamie
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: Um from Connecticut. He was wondering if we saw the
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: offensive tackles in both games false starting like Trump Brown?
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Did I saw a thing written up about this that
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: like they're saying that it's not that they that they're
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: okay that these guys jump in the snap, which I
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: noticed with Trump Brown all year. But I saw I
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: wish i'd saved it on Twitter. But somebody was like,
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: they're not Actually, no, that's right. They can they can
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: get a little bit of a hop. I don't know
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: what that is. Yeah, that's not a thing that I
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: know of. Um, did you see it during these games?
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: So I didn't know. I didn't like, I didn't like.
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: I told you I didn't see the Philadelphia game, so
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: I couldn't tell you in that one. I did not
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: notice it during the Chiefs Bengals game at all, and
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: that usually stands out to me. I noticed. I noticed
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: it badly in the Jacksonville game. The Jacksonville right tackle
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: that was driving Bosa crazy that night was constantly jumping
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: the snapcount. I hadn't heard. I shouldn't say that they
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: don't do that. I have not heard that they allow.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: That makes no sense. I should have pulled that up.
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry for bringing it up. I hate and I
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: do stuff. No, but does that make sense to you
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: that there's two guys that are allowed to cheat the snap? No?
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: And and my only thought was that maybe it's kind
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: of like the like the thirty second clock where where
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: the play clock where you know, it's like there's a
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: beat and then all right. But yeah, you know what
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: I mean. Have you seen on like a fourth down
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: play fourth and inches the quarterback has a snot? I
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: mean the guard has a snot bubble dripped from his
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: nose fall start he moved. Yeah, you know, like, I
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: just can't imagine they call that so tight on those
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: short yardage plays. But yet on third and ten, if
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: the tackle gets in his pass block set, you know,
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: a half a second early, it's okay? Does that does
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: that seem that doesn't seem right? Right now. But who
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: knows in this league that the email could have that nailed.
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: I got Kella's writing in here and with the subject
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: my fiance hates Paul. It doesn't that mind. I don't
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: know how he wrote this, though, it's he wrote I
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: got a bone to pick with Paul. I think I
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: got a bone. I got a bone, Nor sorry, I
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: got a bone and Paul. Early Saturday morning, my fiance
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: and I were driving up the Sun of Pea Mountain
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: to ski. He was having a great drive listening to
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: you guys while she slept. However, Paul must have been
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: in a moon on Thursday because he was yelling a
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: lot on the show. My fiance woke up a few
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: times during the shouting fits. It hit the tipping point
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: when pop off Paul started the flip out about Max
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: critics and Orlowski Kurtmoner wanting to marry Mack. She now
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: hates the show and I'm here defending you guys. Can
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: we balance the volume or maybe move Paul a few
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: feet away from the mid Yeah, you know, just have
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: Fred not say so many stupid things. And I won't
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: yell like I mean, you could tell me you think
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: Mac is good I think he's okay. Someone else thinks
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: he stinks that. That's different. But when you trying to
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: claim that there is not an overwhelming sense of a
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: free pass that has been given to the quarterback, you're
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: not paying attention. I can't. I can't do that, Like
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: I can't just say that, oh yeah, yeah, you're right. No,
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: we're going strong, We're going right to the ante palm.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: I'm not cutting it early. Fred does. A matter of fact,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: we should give him a little extra what else away
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: Franklin and Baltimore this a little bit on that line. Now,
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: My point is the higher of Bob does not changed
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: the fact that I believe Bill Belichick doesn't believe in
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Mac as a QB who can elevate the talent around
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: him and thus operate within his team building philosophy in
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: the same way Brady did. I think Bill has summarily
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: come out to the conclusion or come to the conclusion
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: that Max Sealing is middle of the pack, which would
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: be fine if he also didn't have a diva attitude
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: between That's a good point along with his abrasis to
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: Bill attitude is why would I why would I not
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: be shocked if Bill moves on from Mac far quicker
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: than many other Pats fans believe. Yeah, a couple of
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: things on that, and I think that's an interesting way
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: of looking at it. Um first, as snarky, Paul will
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: chime in real quickly and say, it'll be interesting if
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: Bill decides to pull the plug on Mac, how the
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: scrambling will occur among my colleagues. I'll just call him.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: I won't call anybody out, but like, oh, oh, well,
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: Bill doesn't think he's any good. Oh oh okay, I
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: think I must have to change my view. So Zappy
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: huh leads me to my second point. Mike Greece had
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: a lot of those quotes from Zappy from that rookie events.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: It's like cards trade. Yeah, you know the way that
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: the email had just phrased it. I think he's come
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: to the conclusion that he's middle of the pack, which
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: would be fine except for that he's a diva. I
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: think he might look at it and say, based on
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: what we've heard from Zappy, he's as far from a
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: diva as you can get. Now. I don't know if
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: he's good enough to be middle of the pack. Yeah,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: but if your Bill, and you're like this guy, does
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: and says everything I want him to say. I'll take him. Yeah,
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: you know, I don't think that's outrageous. See, what do
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: you think there's going to be any semblance of a
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: quarterback competition in the off season? But between those two no, no, no,
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: So you think, no matter how well Zappy plays, Mac
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Jones is the starter. Yeah. Yeah, And I'm not saying that.
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: I think I agree with me. Yeah, I think I
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: agree with I mean another one I wanted to fight back,
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: No one to fight with. No, sorry, I mean I
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: just think that they're you. You've got to make amends
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: somewhat or at least make it so that Mac can
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: can can have a chance to succeed. And I think
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: if you instantly go into all right now you're in
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: a quarterback competition like you're not getting him back on,
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: you know, on board with everything, in fact, you know,
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: then he might even go further the other way. Let's
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: do one more here from Tim, Tim writing in about
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: something I'm sure Paul could not care less about. So
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: it's perfect end this show with what do you guys
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: think of the NFL's Pro Bowl? Is there anything that
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: would do to improve it? I honestly believe that the
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: Pro Bowl is a waste of time, but that's just me.
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: He loves the show. Just to let everybody know they're
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: changing this year. So there's all kinds of events, and
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: then they're gonna have a flag football game on Sunday,
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: so that's this week. Thursday night, they'll have a bunch
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: of I think dodgeball, other kind of you know, those
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: kind of things, and then no more Pro Bowl game.
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: It's gonna be flag football will turney and the Mannings
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: will be there and stuff. So I will say this
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: because of all the changes I am, I don't think
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: I'm going to wind up being interested, but I'm going
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: to probably check it out just to see something I
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: haven't seen. Like I looked, saw a very little of
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: the skills stuff. Last year. You saw mac winn most accurate.
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: I'm not sure I did see that, but I will see.
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: I will tune in to see like a dodgeball thing
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: or some kind of silliness. I have no interest whatsoever
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: in the flag football game, but I don't think it'll work.
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: I think it's a it's an attempt to like recognize
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: that the game is um unwatchable and useless old game,
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: old game. So they're trying to do something different, and
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: I think that there's um some merits to that. I think,
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: same kind of thing deal with the hockey, right, they've
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: gone to this three on three format with the different
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: divisions I think, and the skills stuff. Like I'm watching
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: I watch it in passing. You know, I'm not. It's
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: not like appointment television. But the games themselves anymore like
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: that old Pro Bowl. Yeah, I mean the Major League
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: Baseball All Star Game, no interest, NBA All Star Game,
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: no interest. I just I want to see what it looks.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: I do want to see what the flag football game
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: looks like, just because like what do they do with
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: the big fatties? You know, like are those guys play?
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: They ever put those guys out? Like do they have
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: some fun with it? Like I just like the idea,
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: like dodgeball? Is it like you know, like justin Herbert
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: everybody look out anyway? Do you get like Marcus Jones
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: out there dodgeball against like Trent Williams like fascinating? You know,
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: Tyreek Hills doing like backflips to avoid people. I don't. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be I mean, I don't know
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: how much of it. I'll watch. I'll probably flip it on,
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: but I don't think that. I'll probably say about thirty
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: seconds and turn off. All right, that's gonna do it
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: for PP and the Deuce here today. Well, we'll wrap
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: it up. We should have the full crew back on Thursday,
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: so we'll get some recaps of what happened out in Vegas.
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: And that's why I had to talk so much. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: I know you want to be doing, not anticipating, get
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: any airtime on Fursday. We'll see you guys on Thursday.
