Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're going to pick up
• 0:06
Speaker 1: where we left off with the Jess Daly transcript from
• 0:09
Speaker 1: his trip to Congress. Question I'd like to introduce as
• 0:13
Speaker 1: Minority Exhibit Y. An email exchange between you and Mr.
• 0:17
Speaker 1: Epstein dated August 21st, 2008 and an email that you
• 0:21
Speaker 1: sent to Mr. Epstein dated June 20th, 2009. The Bates
• 0:23
Speaker 1: number for the 2008 email exchange is EFTA02- 99999. And
• 0:32
Speaker 1: the Bates number for the 2009 email is EFTA 012-56074.
• 0:39
Speaker 1: In the email exchange from 2008, you write to Mr. Epstein, quote,
• 0:43
Speaker 1: I'm trying to do two deals at the same time,
• 0:46
Speaker 1: buy Dimensional and sell American Century. Does this refer to
• 0:51
Speaker 1: Dimensional Fund Advisors and American Century companies? Answer, yes. Question,
• 0:57
Speaker 1: what were these deals? Answer, We were talking with the
• 1:00
Speaker 1: owner of Dimensional about potentially buying the firm and merging it,
• 1:03
Speaker 1: and potentially I think I was selling American Century to
• 1:06
Speaker 1: fund it or merge with American Century. Question, and J.P.
• 1:11
Speaker 1: Morgan was involved in a mediation with American Century Companies, correct? Answer,
• 1:16
Speaker 1: we owned at one point, we owned American Century Company. Question,
• 1:20
Speaker 1: and there was a mediation later, correct? Answer, there may
• 1:24
Speaker 1: have been, yes. Question, did you typically start ongoing negotiations
• 1:27
Speaker 1: and mediations before they were public? Answer, this was a
• 1:31
Speaker 1: transaction that involved me and the business that I was overseeing.
• 1:35
Speaker 1: As I've said, I went to him for advice and
• 1:37
Speaker 1: his views, but completely trusted that he would not use
• 1:40
Speaker 1: this information for personal gain. Question, in the email from 2009,
• 1:44
Speaker 1: you write to Mr. Epstein, quote, we settled with AmCentury
• 1:49
Speaker 1: details tomorrow. And then you say, quote, thank you for
• 1:51
Speaker 1: your counsel. Answer, yes. Question, So what was that council? Answer,
• 1:57
Speaker 1: I'm not specifically. I don't specifically recall what that council was.
• 2:01
Speaker 1: But there was. This implies that it was involved. Should
• 2:04
Speaker 1: we separate from American Century? How we should do it? Etc.
• 2:09
Speaker 1: And like you would like a consultant or an investment banker,
• 2:12
Speaker 1: I was looking for counsel from Jeffrey Epstein. Question, but
• 2:15
Speaker 1: he wasn't a consultant, was he? Answer, I think he
• 2:18
Speaker 1: advised a lot of people in business, in different and
• 2:21
Speaker 1: different spheres. Question, did you pay him as a consultant? Answer. No,
• 2:25
Speaker 1: I did not. Question. Did JP Morgan pay him as
• 2:29
Speaker 1: a consultant? Answer. No, they did not. Question. I would
• 2:33
Speaker 1: like to introduce as Minority Exhibit Z an email between
• 2:36
Speaker 1: you and Mr. Epstein dated September 26, 2008. Bates number
• 2:41
Speaker 1: is EFTA 0130035. Question. In this email, you write, quote,
• 2:49
Speaker 1: I'm spending a lot of time with Treasury. The private
• 2:52
Speaker 1: bank has brought in $ 44 billion in the last two weeks. Unreal.
• 2:56
Speaker 1: Why did you tell Mr. Epstein that you were spending
• 2:58
Speaker 1: a lot of time with Treasury? Answer. This was during
• 3:03
Speaker 1: the financial crisis of 2008. Obviously, I was going on financially, globally,
• 3:09
Speaker 1: and around the world. I was working with U.S. Treasury
• 3:11
Speaker 1: in my capacity at J.P. Morgan. And again, I would
• 3:15
Speaker 1: use Epstein as to get his advice and thoughts on
• 3:18
Speaker 1: issues like this that I was facing. Question, would you
• 3:22
Speaker 1: agree that the information about how much JP Morgan's private
• 3:25
Speaker 1: bank brought in over the course of two years or
• 3:28
Speaker 1: two weeks is confidential? Answer, I don't believe. I think
• 3:32
Speaker 1: I could share that with someone that I was seeking
• 3:33
Speaker 1: advice from. Question, even if that person is not retained
• 3:37
Speaker 1: by JP Morgan in any capacity? Answer, again, I think
• 3:42
Speaker 1: I did. I was using him as a source of
• 3:44
Speaker 1: advice and views on the market. And, you know, that
• 3:47
Speaker 1: was a very stressful time. So I was not paying him.
• 3:50
Speaker 1: but I was using him as an advisor at the time. Question,
• 3:54
Speaker 1: in the next paragraph, you write, quote, also, do you
• 3:56
Speaker 1: know Sheldon Adelson? I'm throwing him out of the bank
• 3:59
Speaker 1: on Monday. You spelled it throwing, T-H-R-O-U-F-G-H-I-N-G. Did you mean throwing? Answer,
• 4:09
Speaker 1: we exited Sheldon Adelson as a client. Question, you're not
• 4:12
Speaker 1: asking Mr. Epstein for advice here, though. You're just sharing information. Answer, no,
• 4:17
Speaker 1: I'm asking him whether he knows Sheldon Adelson. And I
• 4:20
Speaker 1: don't know whether there were follow-up questions or not. Question,
• 4:23
Speaker 1: so your testimony here is not that you're just sharing
• 4:27
Speaker 1: an extremely confidential piece of information with Mr. Epstein, but
• 4:31
Speaker 1: even though you don't ask him for any, you don't
• 4:33
Speaker 1: ask him for any advice or counsel, he gets cut
• 4:36
Speaker 1: off by Staley. I asked him whether he knows Sheldon Adelson. Question,
• 4:41
Speaker 1: and you read that as looking for Mr. Epstein's advice
• 4:44
Speaker 1: or counsel on a decision that you've already made? Answer, potentially. Question,
• 4:49
Speaker 1: Why would you need his advice or counsel on a
• 4:51
Speaker 1: decision that you've already made? Answer, I don't need it,
• 4:55
Speaker 1: but I might want it. Question, on a decision you've
• 4:58
Speaker 1: already made? Answer, yeah. Question, would you agree that information
• 5:02
Speaker 1: about a client's status at a bank is confidential? Answer, yeah, confidential,
• 5:08
Speaker 1: but I believe as a senior officer of the bank,
• 5:11
Speaker 1: I've got the right to use confidential information where I
• 5:14
Speaker 1: think it's appropriate. Question, I would like to introduce as
• 5:17
Speaker 1: minority exhibit, double A. An email chain between you and Mr.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: Epstein dated October 8, 2008. Question. In the first email
• 5:26
Speaker 1: of the chain, you write, quote, I just gave an
• 5:29
Speaker 1: idea to the Fed and Jamie that might help the
• 5:32
Speaker 1: financial markets in a big way. Both thought it was brilliant.
• 5:35
Speaker 1: You're referring to the Federal Reserve here, correct? Answer, yes,
• 5:38
Speaker 1: I am. Question. Why did you share information about your
• 5:42
Speaker 1: conversation with the Federal Reserve and J.P. Morgan, CEO, with Mr. Epstein?
• 5:49
Speaker 1: Answer again, this was a very, very stressful time in
• 5:52
Speaker 1: the market. I was using Epstein's knowledge and judgment, and
• 5:56
Speaker 1: so I was sharing information with him as we're trying
• 5:58
Speaker 1: to navigate these very difficult times. Question, Mr. Epstein responds
• 6:03
Speaker 1: with some thoughts about financial markets. And then you reply, quote,
• 6:07
Speaker 1: I'm dealing with the Fed on an idea to solve things.
• 6:10
Speaker 1: I need a smart friend to help me think through
• 6:12
Speaker 1: this stuff. Can I get you out for a weekend
• 6:14
Speaker 1: to help me? Was that the same brilliant idea you
• 6:18
Speaker 1: referred to earlier? Answer, I believe this was the same
• 6:21
Speaker 1: idea that I referred to earlier. Question, Mr. Epstein was
• 6:25
Speaker 1: incarcerated at this point, correct? Answer, yeah. Question, when you wrote, quote,
• 6:30
Speaker 1: get you out for a weekend, you mean out of
• 6:32
Speaker 1: the Palm Beach County Stockade, correct? Answer, yes. Question, and
• 6:37
Speaker 1: when you wrote, quote, are they listening? You were asking
• 6:40
Speaker 1: whether Mr. Epstein's emails were being monitored, correct? Answer, it
• 6:43
Speaker 1: seems that way, yes. Question, did that strike you as
• 6:46
Speaker 1: problematic to be asking a convicted sex offender? If you
• 6:50
Speaker 1: could get him out for a weekend so that he
• 6:52
Speaker 1: could share your idea you gave to the Federal Reserve
• 6:55
Speaker 1: and JP Morgan CEO? Answer again. Epstein had very interesting
• 7:00
Speaker 1: insights to the financial markets. It was a very difficult
• 7:03
Speaker 1: time in those markets and I thought that I could
• 7:05
Speaker 1: benefit from getting his thoughts with respect to what I
• 7:08
Speaker 1: was thinking of doing with the Fed. Question. I would
• 7:13
Speaker 1: like to introduce Minority Exhibit AB, an email from Brian
• 7:16
Speaker 1: Sankey to you. Copying Hanny Deeb's Dated November 28th, 2009.
• 7:22
Speaker 1: You forward this email to Mr. Epstein the next day saying, quote,
• 7:26
Speaker 1: please use with discretion. The Bates number is EFTA 02410534. Question, Mr.
• 7:36
Speaker 1: Sankey and Mr. Deeb's were executives at JP Morgan, correct? Answer,
• 7:40
Speaker 1: let me read the email. Question, if you need more
• 7:43
Speaker 1: time to review, we can pause and go off record. Answer, yes, please.
• 7:47
Speaker 1: So they go off. Now they're back on. Question, I'll
• 7:50
Speaker 1: repeat my earlier question. Mr. Sankey and Mr. Deeb's were
• 7:54
Speaker 1: executives at J.P. Morgan, correct? Answer, yes. Question, what was Mr.
• 7:59
  Speaker 1: Sankey's role in 2009? Answer, I don't know. Question, what
• 8:03
Speaker 1: was Mr. Deeb's role in 2009? Answer, I don't remember. Question,
• 8:09
Speaker 1: in the email, Mr. Sankey notes he's responding to quote
• 8:12
Speaker 1: your question and then shares information about discussions with the
• 8:15
Speaker 1: government officials in the United Arab Emirates. including one who, quote,
• 8:20
Speaker 1: reports directly to the Crown Prince. Do you remember what
• 8:23
Speaker 1: this email was about? Answer, no. Question, did you ask Mr.
• 8:27
Speaker 1: Sankey for this information so that you could share it
• 8:30
Speaker 1: with Mr. Epstein? Answer, no. Question, you don't remember this email,
• 8:35
Speaker 1: but you remember that you didn't ask Mr. Sankey for
• 8:37
Speaker 1: the information so that you could share it with Mr. Epstein? Answer,
• 8:42
Speaker 1: I don't think I would ask for information so that
• 8:44
Speaker 1: I could share it with Epstein. Question, it does appear, though,
• 8:48
Speaker 1: that you expected Mr. Epstein to use the information given
• 8:52
Speaker 1: that you said, quote, please use with discretion. Answer, as
• 8:56
Speaker 1: I said, I used Epstein as an advisor. It's possible
• 9:01
Speaker 1: that I shared this to get Epstein's thoughts as to
• 9:04
Speaker 1: what I should do. Question, do you have any recollection
• 9:08
Speaker 1: of why Mr. Epstein would have been interested in this information? Answer,
• 9:12
Speaker 1: he was very involved with Middle East and very involved
• 9:15
Speaker 1: with Dubai. Question, do you have any recollection of how
• 9:18
Speaker 1: you expected Mr. Epstein to use the information? Answer again.
• 9:23
Speaker 1: I expected him to give his counsel as to how
• 9:25
Speaker 1: I might deal with Dubai with respect to this information. Question.
• 9:30
Speaker 1: I'd like to introduce as Minority Exhibit AC an email
• 9:34
Speaker 1: from you to Mr. Epstein on July 20th, 2015. The
• 9:36
Speaker 1: Bates number is EFTA 00850787. In the email, you say, quote,
• 9:39
Speaker 1: the CEO wants to meet. And Mr. Epstein responds, quote,
• 9:49
Speaker 1: I'm home. You were pursuing the role of CEO at
• 9:52
Speaker 1: Barclays at this point, correct? In July of 2015? Answer, yes. Question,
• 9:58
Speaker 1: and you kept Mr. Epstein up to date. on all
• 10:00
Speaker 1: the steps of the process, correct? Answer, correct. Question. By
• 10:05
Speaker 1: October 2015, there were discussions underway about the need for
• 10:09
Speaker 1: your employer, at the time, Blue Mountain Capital, to refrain
• 10:13
Speaker 1: from trading in Barclays shares, correct? Answer, correct. Question. And
• 10:18
Speaker 1: this was because the information about you going to Barclays was,
• 10:21
Speaker 1: as you admitted, before the Financial Conduct Authority, quote, reasonably
• 10:26
Speaker 1: market sensitive, correct? Answer, correct. Question, so why did you
• 10:31
Speaker 1: share this market sensitive information with Mr. Epstein? Answer, obviously
• 10:37
Speaker 1: it was a major step in my personal career. And
• 10:40
Speaker 1: I use him as an advisor in that capacity. So
• 10:42
Speaker 1: I was sharing my discussion with Barclays with him to
• 10:45
Speaker 1: get his counsel. Question, do you regret sharing all this
• 10:48
Speaker 1: information with Mr. Epstein? Answer, no. Question, would you agree
• 10:53
Speaker 1: that you played a significant role in helping Mr. Epstein
• 10:56
Speaker 1: maintain legitimacy after his conviction? Answer, I think he had
• 11:00
Speaker 1: a very broad network with dozens and dozens of people
• 11:03
Speaker 1: that he used to try to maintain his legitimacy. Question,
• 11:07
Speaker 1: but you're a part of that network, weren't you? Answer,
• 11:10
Speaker 1: but I was part of that network. Question, so you
• 11:12
Speaker 1: dispute that you played a significant role in helping him
• 11:16
Speaker 1: maintain the legitimacy after his conviction. Answer again. I was
• 11:19
Speaker 1: part of that network. I'm not sure I would characterize
• 11:22
Speaker 1: it as significant. There were a lot of influential people
• 11:25
Speaker 1: involved in his network. Question. Mr. Staley, we spoke earlier
• 11:29
Speaker 1: about you visiting Mr. Epstein in his office at the
• 11:33
Speaker 1: Florida Science Foundation when he was on work release. Answer. Right. Question. Yes.
• 11:38
Speaker 1: Did you ever visit Mr. Epstein at the Palm Beach Stockade? Answer. No,
• 11:43
Speaker 1: I did not. Question. And as you know, Mr. Epstein
• 11:46
Speaker 1: was on house arrest for a year following his incarceration.
• 11:50
Speaker 1: This was from roughly July 2009 through July 2010. And
• 11:55
Speaker 1: this required him to stay in Palm Beach. Did you
• 11:57
Speaker 1: ever visit Mr. Epstein? Answer. Wasn't the house arrest it
• 12:01
Speaker 1: was out of Palm Beach, but then he moved that
• 12:03
Speaker 1: house arrest to New York? Question. So that was going
• 12:06
Speaker 1: to be part of our question for you. Did you
• 12:09
Speaker 1: ever visit Mr. Epstein in Palm Beach when he was
• 12:11
Speaker 1: on house arrest? Answer. No. Question. No. Did you ever
• 12:15
Speaker 1: visit him anywhere else while he was on house arrest?
• 12:19
Speaker 1: Answer in New York. That one facility where the sheriff
• 12:22
Speaker 1: was there. And then New York. Question in the Florida
• 12:25
Speaker 1: Science Foundation. Answer yes. Question and then in New York.
• 12:29
Speaker 1: Where in New York? Answer is townhouse. All right, folks,
• 12:32
Speaker 1: we're going to wrap up right here. And in the
• 12:33
Speaker 1: next episode dealing with the topic, we're going to pick
• 12:36
Speaker 1: up where we left off. All the information that goes
• 12:38
Speaker 1: with this episode can be found in the description box.
• 12:42
Speaker 1: What's up, everyone? And welcome to another episode. of the
• 12:45
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're picking up where he
• 12:48
Speaker 1: left off with the Jess Daly transcript from his trip
• 12:52
Speaker 1: to Congress. Question. In the email, you write, quote, I
• 12:56
Speaker 1: realized the danger in sending this email, but it was
• 12:58
Speaker 1: great to be able today to give you in New
• 13:00
Speaker 1: York City a long, heartfelt hug. To my friend, thanks, Jess.
• 13:05
Speaker 1: When you wrote, quote, I realized the danger in sending
• 13:08
Speaker 1: this email, what did you mean by that? Answer, again,
• 13:11
Speaker 1: maintaining a relationship with a convicted felon was a dangerous
• 13:14
Speaker 1: thing to do, and in hindsight, I regret it. Question,
• 13:18
Speaker 1: so you weren't referring to all him violating his house
• 13:21
Speaker 1: arrest by being in New York? Answer, no, I think
• 13:25
Speaker 1: he was in New York under house arrest. Question, were
• 13:28
Speaker 1: you ever aware of him violating the terms of his
• 13:30
Speaker 1: house arrest? Answer, I was not. Question, okay, thank you.
• 13:35
Speaker 1: I have a few more questions for you about visits
• 13:37
Speaker 1: to Mr. Epstein's properties and a few clarifications. You said
• 13:41
Speaker 1: earlier that you never went to Mr. Epstein's Palm Beach home.
• 13:44
Speaker 1: Is that correct? Answer, correct. Question, you said earlier that
• 13:48
Speaker 1: you went to Mr. Epstein's ranch in New Mexico once, correct? Answer, correct. Question,
• 13:53
Speaker 1: did you spend the night? Answer, no. Question, so you
• 13:56
Speaker 1: were in Albuquerque for, I think you said a business meeting, correct? Answer, yes. Question,
• 14:00
Speaker 1: and then you drive to the ranch? Answer, I had
• 14:04
Speaker 1: a driver drive me to the ranch. Question, and I
• 14:06
Speaker 1: think you said it was about an hour? Answer, I
• 14:09
Speaker 1: think so. Question, so you had someone drive you to
• 14:11
Speaker 1: the ranch. That's about an hour. And then you said
• 14:14
Speaker 1: you went horseback riding too. Took a shower and then
• 14:17
Speaker 1: you went to the hot tub. And then you had
• 14:20
Speaker 1: someone drive you back somewhere else that evening. Answer, the
• 14:23
Speaker 1: same driver who drove me to the airport and I
• 14:25
Speaker 1: flew home. Question, how many hours would you say you
• 14:29
Speaker 1: spent at Zorro Ranch? Answer, an hour, maybe an hour,
• 14:33
Speaker 1: hour and a half. Question, so it was an hour
• 14:35
Speaker 1: of travel time each way and an hour to an
• 14:37
Speaker 1: hour and a half at the ranch. Answer right. Question,
• 14:41
Speaker 1: that's a lot of travel time for very little time
• 14:44
Speaker 1: spent at the ranch. Answer, for a whole day? No,
• 14:46
Speaker 1: an hour again. It was described to me as the
• 14:49
Speaker 1: largest ranch in New Mexico. I had the time. Didn't
• 14:52
Speaker 1: seem that special. Question, I would like to introduce as
• 14:56
Speaker 1: Minority Exhibit AE an email between Leslie Groff and Mr.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: Epstein from October 30th, 2009. Bates number is EFTA 02434380. Question,
• 15:10
Speaker 1: in the email, Ms. Groff writes, quote, Jeffrey just wanted
• 15:12
Speaker 1: you to know that Jess is all set and organized
• 15:15
Speaker 1: to stay at the ranch tomorrow night. Is your testimony
• 15:19
Speaker 1: that you did not spend the night at the ranch? Answer, yes. Question,
• 15:23
Speaker 1: why do you think Ms. Groff was under the impression
• 15:26
Speaker 1: that you were going to spend the night? Answer, I
• 15:28
Speaker 1: don't know. Question I would like to introduce as Minority
• 15:31
Speaker 1: Exhibit AF, an email chain between you and Mr. Epstein
• 15:34
Speaker 1: from October 18th and 19th, 2009. The bait's number is EFTA. 0-1-3-0-0-2-9-5. Question.
• 15:43
Speaker 1: In the first email, Mr. Epstein writes, quote, London when?
• 15:46
Speaker 1: And you respond, quote, Could I swing by your house
• 15:49
Speaker 1: in London on the afternoon of the 27th? Answer. Yes. Question.
• 15:53
Speaker 1: Did Mr. Epstein have a house in London? Answer. Yes. Question.
• 15:57
Speaker 1: Where was it? Answer. I don't remember. Question. You have
• 16:00
Speaker 1: no recollection. You spend a lot of time in London, correct? Answer. Yeah. Question.
• 16:05
Speaker 1: But you have no recollection where his house in London was. Answer,
• 16:09
Speaker 1: I never went to his house, but I think it
• 16:11
Speaker 1: may have been on Mayfair, but I don't really know. Question,
• 16:14
Speaker 1: do you remember if it was a standalone house or
• 16:16
Speaker 1: a townhouse or an apartment? Answer, no. This says it's
• 16:20
Speaker 1: a house, but I don't know. Question, are you aware
• 16:22
Speaker 1: that Mr. Epstein had at least four flats in Kensington
• 16:25
Speaker 1: and Chelsea that he used to house women that he trafficked? Answer, no. Question,
• 16:31
Speaker 1: could you have been referring to those flats here? Answer,
• 16:34
Speaker 1: I was referring to his house in London. Question, why
• 16:37
Speaker 1: would you have wanted to swing by? Answer, because again,
• 16:42
Speaker 1: I thought it was one of the larger houses in
• 16:44
Speaker 1: London and it would be interesting to see. Question, in
• 16:47
Speaker 1: all the years that you were friends with Mr. Epstein
• 16:50
Speaker 1: and all the time you spent in London, you never
• 16:52
Speaker 1: went to his house? Answer, no, because when I was...
• 16:57
Speaker 1: He gets cut off. We're going to go off record.
• 16:59
Speaker 1: They come back on. Mr. Ashworth, the majority does not
• 17:02
Speaker 1: have any further questions at this time. I understand the
• 17:05
Speaker 1: minority has a handful more questions that they're going to
• 17:08
Speaker 1: go through and then we'll be finishing up. Thank you.
• 17:11
Speaker 1: We'll go off the record. Oh, of course, the GOP
• 17:14
Speaker 1: has nothing to ask daily, right? Bunch of clowns. Question.
• 17:19
Speaker 1: I'd like to ask you some questions about Mr. Epstein's Island,
• 17:21
Speaker 1: Little St. James. You said today that you went twice,
• 17:25
Speaker 1: once in 2005 and once in 2015, correct? Answer. And
• 17:30
Speaker 1: that I transited through it a third time. Question. And
• 17:33
Speaker 1: what year was that? Answer, I don't recall. Question, okay,
• 17:37
Speaker 1: I'd like to introduce as Minority Exhibit AG four flight
• 17:40
Speaker 1: manifests from February 2005. These manifests indicate that you, your wife,
• 17:45
Speaker 1: your two daughters, flew from JFK to the Virgin Islands
• 17:49
Speaker 1: on Mr. Epstein's private plane on February 18, 2005. You
• 17:53
Speaker 1: were joined by Mr. Epstein, Glenn Maxwell, and three young
• 17:57
Speaker 1: women who worked for Mr. Epstein, among other things. These
• 18:01
Speaker 1: manifests also indicate that you, your wife, and your two
• 18:04
Speaker 1: daughters flew from the Virgin Islands to Palm Beach on Mr.
• 18:07
Speaker 1: Epstein's private plane on February 21, 2005. And at the
• 18:13
Speaker 1: same time, three young women who worked for Mr. Epstein
• 18:15
Speaker 1: accompanied you. Finally, there's a manifest showing you, your wife,
• 18:20
Speaker 1: and your two daughters flying from Palm Beach to Teterboro,
• 18:23
Speaker 1: New Jersey on Mr. Epstein's private plane on February 22, 2005.
• 18:27
Speaker 1: We'll go off the record briefly to give you time
• 18:31
Speaker 1: to review the manifest. Question. If you, your wife, and
• 18:35
Speaker 1: your daughter flew to the Virgin Islands on February 18th
• 18:39
Speaker 1: and then did not fly back until February 21st, did
• 18:42
Speaker 1: you stay on Mr. Epstein's island between the 18th and
• 18:45
  Speaker 1: the 21st? Answer. I apologize. I don't see the name
• 18:48
Speaker 1: of my family nor myself on the passenger manifest. Question. Sure.
• 18:53
Speaker 1: The manifests are confusing. If you look at the first page,
• 18:56
Speaker 1: you'll see the date of the flight is February 18th
• 19:00
Speaker 1: and the trip number is 322. Answer. Right. Question. You
• 19:04
Speaker 1: can see Mr. Epstein is the first passenger. He's listed
• 19:07
Speaker 1: as number one. If you go down to number 12,
• 19:10
Speaker 1: it says Jeff. It then says female guest. Female, female. Answer, yup. Question,
• 19:18
Speaker 1: if you flip the next page, about halfway down the page,
• 19:21
Speaker 1: not quite. It says February 18th, 2005, flight 322. James Daly,
• 19:27
Speaker 1: Miss Daly, redacted and redacted. Answer, okay. Question, so what
• 19:31
Speaker 1: we believe, because these are the same flights on the
• 19:33
Speaker 1: same date, is that Jeff is a typo, and that
• 19:36
Speaker 1: should say Jeff. Answer, right. Question, and that the three
• 19:40
Speaker 1: female guests are your family members. Answer, okay. Question, so
• 19:44
Speaker 1: did you and your family stay on Mr. Epstein's Island
• 19:47
Speaker 1: between February 18th and February 21st answer as I said
• 19:53
Speaker 1: my wife and I visited the family and visited Epstein
• 19:56
Speaker 1: and this sort of confirms that question so you stayed
• 20:00
Speaker 1: on his island answer on his island yes question from
• 20:04
Speaker 1: the night of the 18th through the 21st Staley along
• 20:08
Speaker 1: with the Dubins yes Question, that's different from what you
• 20:12
Speaker 1: had testified to previously, correct? Answer, no. Why? How so? Question,
• 20:16
Speaker 1: I believe you told the Financial Conduct Authority that you
• 20:20
Speaker 1: spent a single night on Epstein's Island with your wife. Answer,
• 20:23
Speaker 1: I thought it was a single night, but this implies
• 20:25
Speaker 1: that it was two nights or three nights. Question, you
• 20:28
Speaker 1: did testify before the Financial Conduct Authority that you recall,
• 20:32
Speaker 1: this is according to their decision, that you recall visiting Mr.
• 20:35
Speaker 1: Epstein's Island with your wife and spending the night there.
• 20:39
Speaker 1: in 2005 or 2006. So it appears it was your
• 20:42
Speaker 1: whole family, and it was more than one night, correct? Answer,
• 20:46
Speaker 1: it appears that way, yes. Question, it also appears that
• 20:49
Speaker 1: the three young women who worked for Mr. Epstein also
• 20:52
Speaker 1: stayed on the island with you because they're on the
• 20:55
Speaker 1: flight there on the 18th, and then they're on the
• 20:57
Speaker 1: flight back on February 21st. Answer, yeah, I wouldn't characterize
• 21:02
Speaker 1: Sarah Kellen as a young woman. I recognize Redacted. I
• 21:05
Speaker 1: don't know who Redacted is. Question, did you and your
• 21:08
Speaker 1: family socialize with these women? Answer, no. Question, did you
• 21:12
Speaker 1: engage in sexual activity with these women? Answer, no. Question,
• 21:17
Speaker 1: other than the people listed on the manifest in the
• 21:19
Speaker 1: first page of the exhibit, was anyone else on the island? Answer,
• 21:24
Speaker 1: I don't even know whether all these people were on
• 21:25
Speaker 1: the island. I just remember my wife, my family, and
• 21:29
Speaker 1: the Duvins were on the island. Question, and do you
• 21:32
Speaker 1: remember anyone else on the island who wasn't necessarily on
• 21:35
Speaker 1: the flight to the island? Answer, no, except for the
• 21:38
Speaker 1: people that work there. Question, the manifest show that you
• 21:41
Speaker 1: fly from Virgin Islands to Palm Beach on February 21st
• 21:45
Speaker 1: and then from Palm Beach to Teterboro on February 22nd.
• 21:49
Speaker 1: So it appears that you also spent the night in
• 21:51
Speaker 1: Palm Beach. Is that correct? Answer, that's what this appears
• 21:54
Speaker 1: to show. I don't recall that, but that's what this
• 21:57
Speaker 1: appears to show. Question, do you remember where you stayed
• 22:00
Speaker 1: when you spent the night in Palm Beach? Answer, no. Question,
• 22:03
Speaker 1: would you have stayed at Mr. Epstein's home in Palm Beach? Answer, no. Question,
• 22:08
Speaker 1: you're confident that you would not have stayed at his home? Answer,
• 22:11
Speaker 1: very confident. Question, why is that? Answer, if I was
• 22:15
Speaker 1: traveling with my whole family, I wouldn't stay at someone's
• 22:17
Speaker 1: house like that. Question, I'd like to introduce his minority exhibit, A.H.
• 22:22
Speaker 1: Two emails from you to Mr. Epstein on January 15th, 2010.
• 22:25
Speaker 1: The Bates numbers are EFTA 01300416 and EFTA 01821546. In
• 22:36
Speaker 1: the first email, you say, arrived at your harbor. Someday,
• 22:39
Speaker 1: we have to do this together. In the second email,
• 22:41
Speaker 1: you say, quote, that was cool. And Mr. Epstein responds, yep,
• 22:45
Speaker 1: great seeing you. And again, both of these are from
• 22:48
Speaker 1: the same day. Was this another trip to Mr. Epstein's island? Answer, no,
• 22:52
Speaker 1: I believe this was me arriving on my boat. He
• 22:55
Speaker 1: owned a marina in St. Thomas. And I believe I
• 22:58
Speaker 1: was talking about me sailing, I believe, when he said
• 23:00
Speaker 1: his harbor. I believe it was to the marina. Question
• 23:04
Speaker 1: in the second email, which again is from January 15th,
• 23:07
Speaker 1: you say, that was cool. Answer, uh-huh. Question, do you
• 23:11
Speaker 1: know what you're referring to? Answer, no. Question, if you
• 23:13
Speaker 1: were just arriving at Mr. Epstein's marina, would you have
• 23:17
Speaker 1: seen him? Answer, possibly. He may have come over and
• 23:20
Speaker 1: looked at my boat. Question, so when he said, yup,
• 23:22
Speaker 1: great seeing you, is it possible that he was at
• 23:25
Speaker 1: the marina? Answer, yeah, it's possible. Question, is it also
• 23:29
Speaker 1: possible this was an instance in which you visited Little St. James? Answer,
• 23:33
Speaker 1: I don't think so, because it says arrived at your harbor.
• 23:36
Speaker 1: And again, I think the harbor refers to the harbor
• 23:39
Speaker 1: in St. Thomas where he owns a marina, but I'm
• 23:42
Speaker 1: not sure. All right, folks, we're going to wrap up
• 23:44
Speaker 1: right here. And in the next episode, we're going to
• 23:47
Speaker 1: finish up with the Jeff Staley transcripts from his trip
• 23:50
Speaker 1: to Congress. All the information that goes with this episode
• 23:53
Speaker 1: can be found in the description box. What's up, everyone,
• 23:57
Speaker 1: and welcome to another episode of the Epstein Chronicles. In
• 24:01
Speaker 1: this episode, we're going to finish off with a Jess
• 24:03
Speaker 1: Staley transcript from his trip to Congress. Question I'd like
• 24:08
Speaker 1: to introduce as Minority Exhibit AI in an email exchange
• 24:12
Speaker 1: between you and Mr. Epstein dated December 27th, 2010. The
• 24:16
Speaker 1: Bates number is EFTA 00648887. I would also like to
• 24:22
Speaker 1: introduce as Minority Exhibit AJ an email exchange between you
• 24:26
Speaker 1: and Mr. Epstein dated January 22nd, 2011. The Bates number
• 24:31
Speaker 1: is EFTA 013-00907. In the first exchange, you tell Mr.
• 24:38
Speaker 1: Epstein that you, quote, scheduled a dinner on Little St.
• 24:41
Speaker 1: Jeff's on January 21st. In the second exchange, you tell Mr.
• 24:45
Speaker 1: Epstein that his island is a paradise. Answer, I've lost you. Question,
• 24:50
Speaker 1: in the first exchange, which is from December 22nd, 2010, Mr.
• 24:55
Speaker 1: Sullivan jumps in. What did he say? Question, my apologies,
• 24:59
Speaker 1: I misspoke. December 27th, 2010 is the first exchange. From
• 25:04
Speaker 1: December 27th, 2010, you tell Mr. Epstein that you, quote,
• 25:09
Speaker 1: scheduled a dinner on Little St. Jeff's on January 21st.
• 25:13
Speaker 1: It's the second line of your email. Answer, yup. Wait, wait, wait.
• 25:18
Speaker 1: Staley says he gets cut off. In the second exchange,
• 25:22
Speaker 1: you tell Mr. Epstein that his island is a paradise.
• 25:25
Speaker 1: Did you go back to Mr. Epstein's island in January
• 25:28
Speaker 1: of 2011? Answer, again, I think I said that it
• 25:31
Speaker 1: was in transit on my boat. Question, well, in your
• 25:34
Speaker 1: first email, you say, quote, scheduled a dinner on Little St.
• 25:37
Speaker 1: Jeff's on January 21st. So it looks like that at
• 25:41
Speaker 1: the very least, you had a dinner on Little St. Jeff's. Answer,
• 25:46
Speaker 1: I don't know. This is an email from December, so
• 25:48
Speaker 1: a full month before. Question right. And then the second
• 25:52
Speaker 1: gets cut off by Staley. Answer, so I don't know
• 25:55
Speaker 1: whether I had dinner. And on this next email. Just
• 25:58
Speaker 1: talks about visiting his island, not about having dinner on
• 26:01
Speaker 1: his island. Question, it's from the day after you had
• 26:05
Speaker 1: apparently scheduled a dinner. Answer, I scheduled a dinner months before.
• 26:09
Speaker 1: I was on my boat. I had no idea whether
• 26:12
Speaker 1: I had dinner on my boat or off my boat. Question,
• 26:15
Speaker 1: I'll represent to you that Mr. Epstein's birthday is January 20th.
• 26:19
Speaker 1: That's because one is from December and one is from January. Question,
• 26:25
Speaker 1: I'll represent to you that Mr. Epstein's birthday was January 20th.
• 26:29
Speaker 1: So it looks like you were sending him an email
• 26:31
Speaker 1: on December 27th, 2010, saying that you scheduled a dinner
• 26:35
Speaker 1: on Little St. Jeff's on January 21st, which would be
• 26:38
Speaker 1: the day after his birthday. But then, about a month later,
• 26:42
Speaker 1: on January 22nd of 2011, you referred to his island
• 26:45
Speaker 1: as being paradise. Answer, yes. Question, so taken together, these
• 26:50
Speaker 1: look like you scheduled the dinner on the island for
• 26:52
Speaker 1: his birthday, had that dinner, and then sent an email
• 26:55
Speaker 1: the day after saying, what a paradise. Question, but there's
• 26:59
Speaker 1: nothing in the second email that talks about a dinner
• 27:01
Speaker 1: for his birthday the previous night, and you would think
• 27:04
Speaker 1: if that happened that I would have mentioned that. Great
• 27:06
Speaker 1: to see you or something like that, and there's nothing there. Question,
• 27:09
Speaker 1: so you don't think you visited his island again in
• 27:12
Speaker 1: January of 2011? Answer again, my recollection is there were
• 27:17
Speaker 1: three times that I was on his island, but I
• 27:19
Speaker 1: was staying on my boat, so it's possible. Question, In
• 27:22
Speaker 1: the second exchange you say, I think Larry is sad.
• 27:25
Speaker 1: Is it possible that you're referring to Larry Summers, here
• 27:28
Speaker 1: who was also part of the birthday dinner? Answer, which
• 27:32
Speaker 1: birthday dinner again are you talking about? Question, who was
• 27:35
Speaker 1: also part of the dinner that you scheduled on Little St.
• 27:37
Speaker 1: Jeff's on January 21st? Answer, but Epstein's emailing me on
• 27:42
Speaker 1: the 22nd saying, do you like the kitchen? As if
• 27:46
  Speaker 1: I wasn't with him on the 21st. The way you're
• 27:48
Speaker 1: trying to tie it together doesn't make sense in how
• 27:51
Speaker 1: I read it. Question, so you don't believe that you
• 27:54
Speaker 1: visited Mr. Epstein's island in January of 2011? Answer, again,
• 27:58
Speaker 1: I believe that I was on my boat, and I
• 28:00
Speaker 1: may have stopped on the island on the 11th, but
• 28:02
Speaker 1: I don't remember it. Question, you may have stopped on
• 28:05
Speaker 1: his island in January of 2011 and potentially had dinner? Answer,
• 28:10
Speaker 1: I think if I had dinner on his island, I
• 28:12
Speaker 1: would have mentioned this, so I don't. Question, I would
• 28:15
Speaker 1: like to introduce as Minority Exhibit AK, a manifest for
• 28:18
Speaker 1: a flight from Jersey to to St. Thomas on April 11th, 2015.
• 28:22
Speaker 1: The manifest lists you, your wife, Jeffrey Epstein, and two
• 28:27
Speaker 1: additional women, redacted, and another woman whose name we will
• 28:31
Speaker 1: not read because it's not public, as passengers. I'll give
• 28:35
Speaker 1: you a minute to look it over. Answer, okay. Question,
• 28:38
Speaker 1: it appears this manifest is referring to your visit to Mr.
• 28:40
Speaker 1: Epstein's island in April of 2015, correct? Answer, I'm not sure, no.
• 28:45
  Speaker 1: I don't think I visited his island. I think we
• 28:47
Speaker 1: were on the boat. So we may have caught a
• 28:49
Speaker 1: ride with him to St. Thomas, but went on an
• 28:52
Speaker 1: R boat. Question, other than the people listed as passengers
• 28:55
Speaker 1: on the plane, was there anyone else with you? Answer,
• 28:58
Speaker 1: the crew. Question, you previously said earlier today that you
• 29:02
Speaker 1: didn't believe that you'd ever met Redacted. Answer, that's correct. Question,
• 29:06
Speaker 1: and it shows that you were on a plane with her, correct? Answer, correct. Question,
• 29:10
Speaker 1: do you remember being on a plane with her? Answer, no,
• 29:13
Speaker 1: I don't. Question, and so your recollection is that you
• 29:16
Speaker 1: were on a boat, but you didn't actually visit his island.
• 29:19
Speaker 1: Is that correct? Answer, that's correct. Question, I would like
• 29:23
Speaker 1: to introduce as Minority Exhibit AL. In an email from
• 29:26
Speaker 1: you to Mr. Epstein dated April 12, 2015, which is
• 29:30
Speaker 1: the following day. The date's number is EFTA 01746275. In
• 29:33
Speaker 1: the email, you say, quote, thanks for the flight. Thanks
• 29:40
Speaker 1: for lunch. Your place is crazy and special. It has
• 29:44
Speaker 1: a warmth and silliness that makes it yours. I count
• 29:47
Speaker 1: you as a deep friend. The girls seem to enjoy
• 29:50
Speaker 1: the sale. So you flew on his private plane. You
• 29:53
Speaker 1: had lunch, but then you say your place is crazy
• 29:56
Speaker 1: and special. It has a warmth and silliness that makes
• 29:58
Speaker 1: it yours. That suggests that you did also visit the island. Agree? Answer,
• 30:04
Speaker 1: I said thanks for lunch, yes. Question, sure. But then
• 30:07
Speaker 1: you say, quote, your place is crazy and special. It
• 30:10
Speaker 1: has a warmth and silliness that makes it yours. Answer,
• 30:13
Speaker 1: that's the same to me as thanks for lunch. Question,
• 30:17
Speaker 1: where would you have had lunch? Answer, on his island,
• 30:20
Speaker 1: it seems like. Question, okay, so to clarify, you flew
• 30:23
Speaker 1: on his plane on April 11th, 2015, and then you
• 30:26
Speaker 1: had lunch on the island the same day? Answer, it
• 30:29
Speaker 1: seems like. Question, when you say, quote, the girls seem
• 30:32
Speaker 1: to enjoy the sail. Who are the girls? Answer, I
• 30:35
Speaker 1: don't know. I don't recall. Question, your daughters were not
• 30:38
Speaker 1: with you at this point. Correct? Answer, I believe this
• 30:42
Speaker 1: flight was just my wife and myself. Correct? Question, so
• 30:45
Speaker 1: were the girls, either girls or young women, that work
• 30:48
Speaker 1: for Mr. Epstein? Answer, I don't recall. Question, you have
• 30:52
Speaker 1: no recollection of going sailing with the girls? Answer, no. Question,
• 30:56
Speaker 1: so to summarize, you visited... Mr. Epstein's island in February
• 30:59
Speaker 1: of 2005 and in April of 2015. In 2005, it
• 31:03
Speaker 1: was with your family and in 2015, it was with
• 31:07
Speaker 1: your wife, correct? Answer. In 2005, we stayed on the island.
• 31:12
Speaker 1: In 2015, I think we were staying on our boat. Question.
• 31:16
Speaker 1: And in January of 2010, you may have seen him
• 31:19
Speaker 1: at the marina in the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas. Answer.
• 31:23
Speaker 1: I think he may have came by and seen my boat. Question.
• 31:26
Speaker 1: And your recollection is, is that you did not also
• 31:28
Speaker 1: visit in January of 2011? Answer, that's my recollection. Question,
• 31:34
Speaker 1: you also flew on Mr. Epstein's plane multiple times. The
• 31:38
Speaker 1: times that we have discussed are three instances in February
• 31:41
Speaker 1: of 2005 and then once in April of 2015, correct? Answer,
• 31:46
Speaker 1: I don't recall. Question, do you remember any other time
• 31:49
Speaker 1: that you flew on Mr. Epstein's plane? Answer, I remember
• 31:53
Speaker 1: flying on a 727 and I remember flying on his Gulfstream.
• 31:56
Speaker 1: But I don't know. It either would have been between
• 31:59
Speaker 1: here in Florida or here in St. Thomas or New York, sorry. Question, Mr. Staley.
• 32:05
Speaker 1: I'm concerned that you have not been entirely honest with
• 32:07
Speaker 1: us today. In large part because you have a history
• 32:10
Speaker 1: of saying what you think you need to get, what
• 32:13
Speaker 1: you want. I want to ask you about the history
• 32:16
Speaker 1: and see if you have an explanation for us. Back
• 32:18
Speaker 1: in the fall of 2019, the president and trustees of
• 32:22
Speaker 1: Bowdoin College, your alma mater, became concerned about your association
• 32:25
Speaker 1: and With Mr. Epstein, correct? Answer, correct. Question. And you
• 32:29
Speaker 1: were a trustee at Bowdoin College, correct? Answer, correct. Question.
• 32:34
Speaker 1: And you wanted to remain a trustee of Bowdoin College, correct? Answer, correct.
• 32:38
Speaker 1: Question and response. You gave a presentation to the Bowdoin
• 32:42
Speaker 1: College trustees about your relationship with Mr. Epstein, correct? Answer, correct. Question.
• 32:48
Speaker 1: And as part of your presentation, you made a number
• 32:50
Speaker 1: of statements to the Bowdoin College trustees, correct? Answer, correct. Question.
• 32:55
Speaker 1: And this was before the Department of Justice released some
• 32:57
Speaker 1: of the files on Mr. Epstein, correct? Answer, correct. Question,
• 33:03
Speaker 1: one of those statements was, I had limited contact with
• 33:06
Speaker 1: him post his conviction. We know that between 2008 and 2012,
• 33:10
Speaker 1: you exchanged over 1,200 emails with Mr. Epstein. That's nearly
• 33:16
Speaker 1: 300 emails a year, or almost an email a day.
• 33:20
Speaker 1: How is that limited contact? Answer again, I have used
• 33:23
Speaker 1: the word contact... as being with them, having contact with somebody,
• 33:27
Speaker 1: not necessarily an email. Question, do you think that's how
• 33:31
Speaker 1: the world or the word was understood when you said
• 33:35
Speaker 1: it to the Bowdoin College trustees that contact meant physical contact?
• 33:40
Speaker 1: I can't speak for the Bowdoin trustees, but I think
• 33:42
Speaker 1: that's what I was referring to. Question, another statement was, quote,
• 33:47
Speaker 1: gets cut off by Staley. I'm sorry, I don't know.
• 33:50
Speaker 1: When you say that number of emails, is it like
• 33:52
Speaker 1: separate emails or is it like a chain? You say hi.
• 33:56
Speaker 1: I say hi. You say what you're doing. I say nothing.
• 33:58
Speaker 1: What are you doing? Question. It's a finding from the
• 34:02
Speaker 1: Financial Conduct Authority. Answer. But we don't know whether it's okay. Question.
• 34:08
Speaker 1: Individual emails or email chains? No. I think it's still
• 34:11
Speaker 1: a pretty high number. Another statement was, quote, at no
• 34:14
Speaker 1: time after his conviction in 2008 did I allow J.E.
• 34:18
Speaker 1: any connection with any respect of my personal life. Indeed,
• 34:22
Speaker 1: I have never had any professional relationship with J.E. except
• 34:25
Speaker 1: for his relationship with J.P. Morgan's private bank, which began
• 34:29
Speaker 1: long before I ever met him. There is an overwhelming
• 34:32
Speaker 1: evidence that this is false. You asked Mr. Epstein for
• 34:35
Speaker 1: advice on your salary. You shared confidential information about how
• 34:39
Speaker 1: your business was doing and what deals you were working on.
• 34:42
Speaker 1: You told Mr. Epstein about meetings that you had with
• 34:44
Speaker 1: government officials and meetings that others had with government officials.
• 34:49
Speaker 1: And you gave Mr. Epstein multiple updates about on the
• 34:51
Speaker 1: hiring process at Barclays. Why would you lie about this
• 34:55
Speaker 1: to the Bowdoin College trustees? Answer, can you repeat what
• 34:58
Speaker 1: I said to the Bowdoin College trustees? Question, at no
• 35:03
Speaker 1: time after his conviction in 2008, did I allow J.E.
• 35:06
Speaker 1: any connection with any aspects of my professional life? Indeed,
• 35:10
Speaker 1: I have never had any professional relationship with J.E., except
• 35:14
Speaker 1: for his relationship with J.P. Morgan's private bank, which began
• 35:17
Speaker 1: long before I ever met him. answer and I think
• 35:20
Speaker 1: that was referring to him being like a client. Him
• 35:23
Speaker 1: advising on a transaction like Highbridge. I don't believe that.
• 35:27
Speaker 1: I think it was actually doing business with him as
• 35:28
Speaker 1: opposed to using him to give me counsel with respect
• 35:32
Speaker 1: to my career. I think those are separate things. Question,
• 35:35
Speaker 1: I don't follow that distinction. You say you didn't allow
• 35:38
Speaker 1: him any connection with any aspect of your professional life
• 35:42
Speaker 1: after his conviction. When he is in jail, you email
• 35:45
Speaker 1: him asking what your salary should be. That very much
• 35:48
Speaker 1: seems like, after his conviction, you're allowing him a connection
• 35:51
Speaker 1: to an aspect of your professional life. Answer, I think
• 35:55
Speaker 1: I was talking about connections of actually business being conducted
• 35:59
Speaker 1: in my professional life, not about me. Question, I'm not
• 36:02
Speaker 1: sure what you mean by that. Connections about business? Answer,
• 36:06
Speaker 1: so the selling of American Century, or thinking of buying,
• 36:09
Speaker 1: about buying Dimensional, or having him involved in the acquisition
• 36:12
Speaker 1: of Highbridge as separate from, I'm thinking of going to Barclays,
• 36:16
Speaker 1: what do you think? One is sort of advice about
• 36:19
Speaker 1: my professional life. The other is about transactions and business. Question,
• 36:24
Speaker 1: I'm still not following you because you did both. You
• 36:27
Speaker 1: asked him for advice on your professional life and you shared,
• 36:31
Speaker 1: gets cut off by Staley, right, right? I think after
• 36:34
Speaker 1: his conviction, I wouldn't know. If I was doing a transaction,
• 36:37
Speaker 1: I wouldn't bring him in to get involved in the transaction.
• 36:40
Speaker 1: That's very different than my professional personal life. Question, right,
• 36:44
Speaker 1: but after his conviction, you did both. You shared information
• 36:47
Speaker 1: about deals that you were working on. Staley, very little. Question,
• 36:51
Speaker 1: and we've talked about that though. You shared information with
• 36:54
Speaker 1: them about deals that you were working on. You told
• 36:57
Speaker 1: them about meetings you were having with government officials. Answer,
• 37:01
Speaker 1: and that's different. Question, sure. And then, in other categories,
• 37:05
Speaker 1: you asked them for advice about what you should say
• 37:07
Speaker 1: to Jamie Dimon in a salary negotiation. Answer, right again.
• 37:11
Speaker 1: but that's different from bringing him to actual business transactions
• 37:14
Speaker 1: like American Century or Dimensional or Highbridge. Question, so you
• 37:19
Speaker 1: think that the natural reading of this statement that you
• 37:21
Speaker 1: made to the Bowdoin College trustees is that you were
• 37:24
Speaker 1: saying that you didn't do some kind of formal business
• 37:26
Speaker 1: with them? Answer, yeah. Question, when you say at no
• 37:30
Speaker 1: time after his conviction in 2008, did I allow J.E.
• 37:34
Speaker 1: any connection with any aspect of my professional life? Answer,
• 37:38
Speaker 1: that would have been public and involved in a transaction.
• 37:41
Speaker 1: That's correct. Whereas before, he was paid $ 15 million to
• 37:44
Speaker 1: advise on a transaction with Highbridge. That's the sort of
• 37:47
Speaker 1: thing that I was referring to. Question, I don't see
• 37:50
Speaker 1: the distinction, Mr. Staley. And instead, it looks like you're
• 37:53
Speaker 1: giving information to the Bowdoin trustees, excuse me, the Bowdoin
• 37:57
Speaker 1: College trustees, that is not entirely accurate. Because at the time,
• 38:01
Speaker 1: all of the emails and documents that we have were
• 38:03
Speaker 1: not public. And if you were comfortable lying then, how
• 38:07
Speaker 1: do we know you're not lying to us now? Answer,
• 38:10
Speaker 1: I'm not lying to you. question that's all we have
• 38:13
Speaker 1: that concludes the hour whereupon at 5 46 p.m the
• 38:18
Speaker 1: interview was concluded all the information that goes with this
• 38:22
Speaker 1: episode can be found in the description box
