- 0:11Yes, I'd like to start off by saying this girl's argument is
- 0:14ridiculous. Vegetarians who eat fish are
- 0:15hypocrites. She thinks because fish feel no
- 0:18pain, they don't value their lives.
- 0:19Absurd. And notice how she expresses
- 0:21almost no sympathy for chickens. That's because Americans hate
- 0:24chickens. For example, KFC serves popcorn
- 0:26chicken to assure that their customers that the chicken was
- 0:28blown to bits. Yet the meatball sub at Subway
- 0:30isn't called popcorn cow. Americans want chickens to die.
- 0:33Lame. Personally, I do feel sympathy
- 0:36for animals, which is why I choose to only eat baby animals.
- 0:38They've not lived as long and they are not leaving as much
- 0:40behind. Baby clams, chicken wings, baby
- 0:43seals, no big loss. If we don't eat meat, we lose
- 0:46our place in the food chain. Eating animals gives us
- 0:49confidence as humans. Welcome to us your least famous
- 0:52game. Maybe the podcast where we talk
- 0:54about the good, the bad, the ugly, Emmy Yup, start and all of
- 0:57our. Favorite and we's favorite scary
- 0:58movies because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its
- 1:01fan base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 1:04My name is Travis. My name is Jesse, and if you can
- 1:06tell from that opening speech, we are talking about the
- 1:09tension. Yeah, that's a legendary speech.
- 1:12Yeah, as the resident vegan, it felt like the appropriate quote
- 1:18for me to go with. He tore you all down.
- 1:20In that moment. I was like.
- 1:22Wow you were side eyeing me the whole time and when I got to
- 1:25when I got to KFC exploding chicken you like lost it.
- 1:29Yeah, well, I mean, I think he has a great point with it being
- 1:32popcorn beef or popcorn cow. Popcorn Cow.
- 1:35That's that's a great point man, never considered that.
- 1:39So we're back for prom month, Yeah.
- 1:42And this time our prom is at Grizzly Lake High School, so
- 1:46very excited about that. I don't have any other
- 1:49announcements right now. I think we're just ready to go
- 1:53to poll. Results.
- 1:53Yeah. Poll results.
- 1:54Poll results. Well, this is an easy one for
- 1:56me. So we did the Prom Night 3 poll
- 2:01for last week's movie, and you know, if you listen to the
- 2:04episode, you know that there's a lot of ghost fucking that goes
- 2:07on in that. And you'll note that your two
- 2:10hosts have very different opinions on ghost fucking.
- 2:12Uh huh. So we took to everybody else and
- 2:15asked should you fuck the ghost and my.
- 2:18Options are don't folk, don't folk, don't fuck the ghost, or
- 2:23always fuck the ghost. And we had 100% always fuck the
- 2:28ghosts. Y'all are dirty birdies.
- 2:30There was a lot of people too, and I appreciate the backup on
- 2:34that one right there. Always.
- 2:35Fuck the ghosts. Everybody's.
- 2:37Everybody's fucking them. OK, well, dirty birdies, I'm
- 2:42gonna go ahead and talk about detention now.
- 2:44Because I don't have anything else to say.
- 2:45Yeah, there's something else to add to that.
- 2:47I mean, we talked plenty about it last week, so if you want
- 2:49more, go, but after this one. OK, so Detention premiered on
- 2:56March 13th, 2011 at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
- 2:59It had a limited release in the US on April 6th, 2012.
- 3:04We watched it on Tubi, but right now you can also rent it from
- 3:07Prime Google Player Fandango at home.
- 3:10Written by Joseph Kahn and Mark Palermo.
- 3:12Directed by Joseph Kahn, original music by Charles
- 3:15Bernstein, Brain Mancha, who is a who's been a drummer in a lot
- 3:21of different groups, most notably Primus and Guns and
- 3:24Roses and Melissa Reese. Special effects supervisor was
- 3:29Robert Giddens and the prosthetics supervisor was Megan
- 3:32Brown. Starring Josh Hutcherson as
- 3:35Clapton Davis, Shanley Caswell as Riley Jones, Spencer Locke as
- 3:39Ione Parker Bagley as Billy Nolan and AD Johnson as Sander
- 3:44Sanderson. Travis, time for our favorite
- 3:46game. Budget or bug?
- 3:49Ted. This movie had to have a budget
- 3:56because they did a lot of shit. They had a lot.
- 3:59It's a very effects heavy movie. I think it's budget.
- 4:03Just barely, OK, And I'll talk more about that here in a
- 4:06minute. But the budget is roughly $10
- 4:08million. Nice right there.
- 4:10And because of the limited release, how it mostly just went
- 4:13straight to DVD. I don't have box office
- 4:15information, OK. Unfortunately.
- 4:16Yeah, it does have an IMDb score of 5.6 out of 10.
- 4:20OK, I pulled 3 movies from 2011 and they all have have to do
- 4:27with the different elements of detention.
- 4:30Nice. OK, cool.
- 4:31So the first one is Final Destination 5, which we find out
- 4:35near the end is actually taking place in the 90s.
- 4:39Yeah, wow. Good good spoiler for anybody
- 4:44that's not watch that movie. Yeah, spoiler for anybody who's
- 4:4614 years behind on the Final Destination franchise, you are
- 4:49not ready for Bloodlines. Yeah, OK, so Final Destination
- 4:535, released August 12th, 2011, had a budget of $40 million and
- 4:57a worldwide gross of 157 million dollars. 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 5:02Only 5.9 I know. That's a really good one, man.
- 5:05I agree. I agree.
- 5:06I really like it. It's got the gymnastics stuff.
- 5:09Yeah, it's. Really gnarly, the whole like
- 5:11the bridge thing. That's already a fear anyway.
- 5:14The Bridge 1 is good. That's a that's a good one.
- 5:16I like how they brought it full circle too.
- 5:18I mean, it's a really smart movie.
- 5:20I think that they did a good job and I don't think I'm being
- 5:22biased on that one either. I think like I see generally a
- 5:25lot of people talk good about that one.
- 5:28I am being biased, but in this case my opinion is right, so
- 5:31yeah, you're right. OK, second movie, Apollo 18.
- 5:37Cuz we do. Have aliens.
- 5:39Oh yeah, man, that's a man, I think.
- 5:42That's a weird one. That's a movie that I think I've
- 5:44watched 2 times but I don't remember any of.
- 5:47It yeah, both times we watched it like it just gets so weird so
- 5:50fast that we're like. I don't know what happens man.
- 5:53I'm like I'm mentally check out or something or something
- 5:56happens. I think you go.
- 5:57I think you retreat to a deep place within yourself.
- 5:59Yeah, I believe the aliens are spreading like.
- 6:02My, my brain's trying to protect me, yeah.
- 6:04That released September 2nd, 2011.
- 6:07A budget of $5,000,000, a worldwide gross of $26 million,
- 6:11and an IMDb score of 5.2 out of 10.
- 6:13OK, not bad. Now, this last one's a little
- 6:16bit of a stretch. OK.
- 6:18So in the movie Detention, Billy Nolan is a flyboy.
- 6:22And I don't mean like he's fly like he's like Jeff Goldblum.
- 6:27He's part. Flyboy.
- 6:28So the third movie from 2011 that I picked is The Human
- 6:31Centipede 2. Yeah, that's a stretch.
- 6:34But oh, wow, that, that's not bad.
- 6:36That's not bad. That released in November 2011.
- 6:40I obviously don't have a budget for that.
- 6:42There's a gross of $170,000 plus the movie itself.
- 6:47It is gross, so gross, man, that's I've never, I have not
- 6:50finished that movie. It has a 3.8 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 6:543.8 yeah, OK, I I can't speak on it 'cause I'm not seeing the
- 6:58full thing, but I it's pretty, yeah.
- 7:02All I've the only thing I've ever seen from any of the Human
- 7:05Centipede movies is like the beginning part of that with you,
- 7:07and then you're like, I'm not like we haven't been together
- 7:09long enough. For we just started dating.
- 7:11That was a terrible decision. I that was that was so stupid on
- 7:15my part. I didn't know it was gonna get
- 7:18that bad, though. I watched the first one and the
- 7:20first one you think is gonna be horrible, but it's not that bad.
- 7:23And then you go like straight off the rails and too, I'm like
- 7:25what the fuck? So that's my that's my entire
- 7:29experience with Human Centipede. Do or the.
- 7:32Whole you've not even seen the first one.
- 7:33No. Wow, OK, first one's not that
- 7:36bad. OK, I've got 1 tagline.
- 7:40Only one just one. OK, cancel your future.
- 7:46OK, that's not too bad. I mean man, like this one would
- 7:51be a hard one to win tagline on. It's hard to even land on a
- 7:57title for this movie. I think Yeah, cuz it's so much
- 8:01so many things, so many places. Yeah, OK.
- 8:06So principal photography took place in LA from August to
- 8:09October 2010. And Joseph Kahn largely funded
- 8:13this by himself. So I learned this in an
- 8:17interview with Joseph Kahn on Flexible Head.
- 8:20That's the name of a blog. So it took three years for him
- 8:24and Mark Palermo to write the script.
- 8:26And it obviously, I mean, you know, things change along the
- 8:28way. And he he wasn't feeling it when
- 8:30he first started, but it turned into something that he
- 8:32absolutely loved and exactly what he wanted it to be to buy.
- 8:34Three years to write it. Wow.
- 8:37They could not find a studio to buy it.
- 8:41Like no studio wanted to buy it. So basically what he was doing
- 8:44was he was utilizing his contacts in the music video and
- 8:47commercial shooting industry. Oh, OK.
- 8:49So that's what a lot of the crew was.
- 8:51And he said it kind of worked out really well for him because
- 8:53he wouldn't have been able to use the crew that he knew and
- 8:56trusted and stuff. It'd have been with the studio
- 8:58because they would have had to pick studio approved guys.
- 9:00Yeah, but he did run out of money in the first week and
- 9:05basically was having to fund it week by week as he went.
- 9:08So. How the fuck did this guy get
- 9:10axed access to that kind of money then $10 million out of
- 9:13his own pocket? Dude seems like he is fantastic
- 9:16at networking. He said every dollar that went
- 9:19into that is money he owes. Really.
- 9:21Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:22So he considers his directorial style to be structural.
- 9:28So he's really focused on rhythm and tempo.
- 9:30And again, this becomes this is because he comes from a music
- 9:32video. It's very snappy.
- 9:34Yeah. And another one little fun final
- 9:38fact that I think you'll find interesting.
- 9:41So at the end they at the prom they do a cover of Mbop, which
- 9:45was done by the music team that I mentioned at the beginning,
- 9:50but the guitar player on that was actually Buckethead.
- 9:54That was Buckethead, Yeah. Did he have a bucket on his
- 9:56head? I don't know.
- 9:58I don't know if he was like on the screen or not, but in the
- 10:00like cover, really. That's him playing guitar, Yeah.
- 10:02Man, I forgot all about Buckethead.
- 10:04You. Every time Buckethead is
- 10:05mentioned, you say that. Well, I always do.
- 10:08Who? Who remembers Buckethead?
- 10:09Truly, nobody, except for Buckethead.
- 10:15So yeah, that's those are my fun facts.
- 10:18Not good. I think we're ready to probably
- 10:20talk about good, bad, good, bad, ugly, absurd.
- 10:25Thank you. OK.
- 10:27Well, I kick it off since you did all that.
- 10:29OK, so one of the things about this movie that I think has
- 10:34going for it is its style. I think it makes a lot of sense
- 10:38with you say in the music video background.
- 10:40Yeah, because it's it's shot in a unique way and the overall
- 10:45presentation is just unique. There's not a lot of movies that
- 10:48have a feel like this, but it it's like it's like fast, like
- 10:52the pacing is just like fucking off the rails the entire time.
- 10:56It doesn't even slow down ever. It's got some pretty good humor
- 10:58moments. Like some of it sticks with me.
- 11:01I like the debate. That was hilarious.
- 11:05I really wanted to find what's her name?
- 11:08Allison Taylor. Taylor Taylor Fisher, whatever
- 11:12Taylor is part of her name. Yeah, I really wanted to find
- 11:15her opening bit to do as our. Open.
- 11:18Well, that would have been good too.
- 11:19Written online anywhere that I can find.
- 11:21You know, honestly I'm glad that they killed her off right away
- 11:24cuz she would have been a hard one to fall for an entire.
- 11:26Movie. Yeah, I.
- 11:27Don't think I could have handled that for an entire hour and a
- 11:30half. I think the cast is really good.
- 11:32They got some good people here. They got Josh Hutcherson before
- 11:34he blew up. I think this is like before
- 11:36Hunger Games really took off, right?
- 11:37The year I feel like the first Hunger Games, I think came out
- 11:41in 2012. Yeah, that took off while we
- 11:42were in college. I remember that because I
- 11:44remember my roommates girlfriend was like close friends with
- 11:48Jennifer Lawrence. Wild.
- 11:50Yeah, cuz she was from Louisville.
- 11:51Yeah, she's. From Louisville.
- 11:52So is Josh Hutcherson. He's from Kentucky as well.
- 11:55Yeah. And I just wanna say it for
- 11:56anybody who hasn't watched the Hulu original show, Future Man
- 11:59is starring Josh Hutcherson is an excellent show.
- 12:01If you like Josh Hutcherson, you like time travel, you like
- 12:04sci-fi shit, watch Future Man. I need to finish that.
- 12:08Yeah, I need to. You really do.
- 12:11You need to start over. You can't.
- 12:13Just, I know, yeah, that's one of those ones where you restart
- 12:16the entire thing. So yeah, good cast.
- 12:19I think that they're all really good performances from
- 12:21everybody, too. I like the Cinderella character.
- 12:24Yeah. I'm sad that we don't get a lot
- 12:27of it. Though I would so fucking watch
- 12:28Cinderella 3. Dude, I want to watch those
- 12:31movies. Those movies within the movies
- 12:33were awesome. I love those really good.
- 12:35And again, with the music background, I think that they
- 12:39did a solid soundtrack for this. I think that person had similar
- 12:42tastes to me in that era. Yes.
- 12:46Like it was just banger after banger.
- 12:47I felt like I was like, I'm not mad about a single needle drop
- 12:51in this. Whole thing?
- 12:52No, no, this is a movie that's full of them.
- 12:54Yeah. OK, that's my good stuff.
- 12:56What about you? I get that the style is a lot.
- 13:00It's very quirky and maximalist, but I myself am quirky and
- 13:06maximalist. You sound exactly like Lydian.
- 13:08Beetlejuice. I felt myself saying that.
- 13:11As I was saying, I was like, well, it is what it is.
- 13:13If I'm gonna be Winona writer, that's fine.
- 13:15Take a whiff. Lick it up baby, just all the
- 13:19Winona. Anyway, I explained this movie
- 13:23to one of our friends last night as Scott Pilgrim meets Diablo
- 13:28Cody meets John Dies at the end. I'm glad that you also had the
- 13:32Scott Pilgrim thought, because I had that as well.
- 13:35Yeah, it's like with like some of the stylistic choices and the
- 13:39needle drops again. I just, I feel like they were
- 13:42reminiscent of that. A lot of the dialogue, like it's
- 13:45not exactly Diablo Cody because I don't think anybody could
- 13:48really like, emulate her 100%. But it is like the snappy, like
- 13:53way more witty and irreverent than a typical teen would be.
- 13:58And then obviously with all the time travel stuff, it's got that
- 14:01element of John Dyes at the end. Yeah, that's another one that
- 14:04that, that's one that we watched a long time ago too.
- 14:08So yeah, I think that it's just, I think it's a lot of fun.
- 14:11It's you have to just take it as it comes at you.
- 14:15And even like taking notes was kind of difficult because I was
- 14:18like, there's so much to absorb on the screen.
- 14:21And it really, you know, sometimes we talk about their
- 14:23movies that you're shocked at how much time is left.
- 14:26And this is 1 where it just kind of flies by.
- 14:30I don't know, man, the entire time when we would pause to feed
- 14:33the pets and stuff, I'm like, damn, there's still this much
- 14:34movie left. I think we had the reverse of
- 14:36prom night. Yeah, I guess so.
- 14:39Us here like, damn, yeah, there's just so much that
- 14:42happens. Yeah, okay, so what's your bad?
- 14:46OK, so I guess kind of going into that Scott Pilgrim thing
- 14:50that that's not necessarily a good thing for me.
- 14:53I feel like this person tries to emulate other people's style is
- 14:56hard. But The thing is he's emulating
- 14:58people that have their own distinct style that nobody else
- 15:02can do. You can't do Edgar Wright, you
- 15:04can't do Edgar Wright can only do that Diablo Cody can only do
- 15:08Diablo Cody. So when you are trying to
- 15:11emulate that style, it comes off as like, it's it.
- 15:15To me it felt obvious that, well, I don't know if he was
- 15:18actually going for it, but if he was like, I mean, it felt like
- 15:21it was an obvious attempt, I think.
- 15:23And I think this is only like his second movie if I was
- 15:27reading everything correctly. So it might be an element of he
- 15:31is like experimenting with style and trying to find something.
- 15:33He likes this better than he likes Twerk.
- 15:36Twerk was his first movie. OK.
- 15:38Yeah, I mean like. I think that this actually made
- 15:40a little jab at Twerk at one point in the movie too.
- 15:43Well, he makes a jab at himself too, talking about music, video
- 15:46editing, stuff like that. So I think, I don't know, I
- 15:50think that comes into play here too.
- 15:52This this movie is just there. OK, so like I said that the
- 15:58jokes I but there's some good jokes.
- 16:00But the bad part about that is it's because there are so many
- 16:04jokes. Everyone is joke, joke, joke,
- 16:06joke, joke, joke. There's like no time to breathe.
- 16:09And Speaking of that, there's like nobody ever stops talking
- 16:13for a single second in this movie.
- 16:14When one person finishes their sentence, it immediately cuts to
- 16:17another person talking. There's no like breath of air
- 16:21there for somebody to like, you know, just like take it all in.
- 16:24It just goes the entire fucking time.
- 16:27The other bits of the humor though, too, it also kind of
- 16:30reminded me of that 2000s or like late 2000s random type
- 16:36humor where we got these like little side things like the bear
- 16:39going on like a spaceship. And the fly thing was just like,
- 16:45none of this stuff was really. If we however, if we didn't have
- 16:49the fly thing, we wouldn't have gotten the Richard Brake cameo.
- 16:51That's the only redeeming part of that.
- 16:54It just, it didn't feel like it really was necessary.
- 16:58It just bloated the movie with all kinds of random shit that
- 17:01didn't even need to happen. I guess also some elements of
- 17:07like Tim and Eric, like we're just gonna throw this random
- 17:09thing in here. Hey, here's another thing.
- 17:11Tim and Eric, nobody else can do Tim and Eric except for them.
- 17:14When you see people try to do Tim and Eric it's the most
- 17:16cringe worthy shit because nobody can nail it.
- 17:19Yeah, and then at the same time you go and watch Tim and Eric's
- 17:22$100 million movie or whatever the fuck it is it's called.
- 17:25That movie never gets old for. Me.
- 17:26That movie's good. Yeah, they actually turn that
- 17:28into like a movie format. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:31No, I think I agree with you. It is.
- 17:33It just, it keeps coming at you. And so while there's a lot to
- 17:36enjoy, yeah, you don't get that breathing room.
- 17:39And I think we talk a lot about how in both horror and comedy,
- 17:43you've got to have the peaks and valleys so things can hit just
- 17:46right. Well, you got to like time
- 17:47everything. And if there's like no timing,
- 17:49it's just like. But but but but but but but.
- 17:51Like the entire time, it's just like it's, it's overwhelming.
- 17:54Yeah. And I think maybe like if we
- 17:58had, OK, so Billy has a random like he's a flyboy, I think that
- 18:02would have been a lot funnier if he'd just said like, I've got
- 18:05fly DNA and left it at that. And we're like sitting here
- 18:08going what the fuck? I think in some ways it would be
- 18:10funnier not having it explained. Yeah, I think so too.
- 18:13But I get that they want to have that element of like, OK, yeah,
- 18:15aliens have been consistently, like, coming to this planet.
- 18:18But the aliens didn't even really matter.
- 18:21Yeah, that's not what the movie was ultimately about.
- 18:23It's a gag at the very end of the movie that the Canadian is
- 18:27an alien and the aliens are taking over.
- 18:29Happens in the final five seconds of the movie, yeah.
- 18:32Yeah, yeah. No, I I think I agree with you.
- 18:34OK, one of those friends. What is your ugly then?
- 18:38Sander being a sex pest. Oh my God.
- 18:41Yeah, that dude is relentless. Him and young Principal Verge.
- 18:45Yeah, both of them, man. Yeah, like, oh, OK, so this girl
- 18:49doesn't want to fuck me. I'm just gonna blow up the whole
- 18:52school OK? I've seen a lot of shit online
- 18:55about this so-called male loneliness epidemic.
- 18:58No that's just you having bad social skills and not seeing
- 19:01women as people. That's not if you are lonely.
- 19:06Figure out what the like. It is not up to women to make
- 19:10men feel valuable and loved. The same way it's not up to a
- 19:15man to make a woman feel valuable and loved.
- 19:18Like, if you want to have a relationship that gives you that
- 19:23sense of fulfillment, you have to develop that relationship
- 19:26with another human being. You can't just go she's hot and
- 19:29I want to fuck her, and if she doesn't then that's the entire
- 19:32world's problem. Yeah, they man, it's, it's a
- 19:36kind of, it's a pretty sad thing.
- 19:37I, I feel genuinely bad for those people.
- 19:39Like, I don't, I'm not like, I don't have sympathy for how they
- 19:43behave because they're pretty terrible people, but they're
- 19:46influenced by like, this whole manosphere thing that's going on
- 19:49right now. And a lot of that encourages the
- 19:51objectification of women. And they're just like, like the
- 19:54younger kids that are having to like, go through this.
- 19:57Yeah. It's just, it sucks.
- 19:59I have sympathy for the for the socially awkward people who are
- 20:02being influenced by the wrong people, but if it pushes you to
- 20:05a point where you start to see everybody else's the problem and
- 20:09you don't do any work on yourself, that's where you're
- 20:12losing. I I knew a guy exactly like this
- 20:14whenever I was growing up and he always like blamed women and
- 20:17like dude. If everywhere you go smells like
- 20:21shit, yeah. At the bottom of your own shoe,
- 20:23you know. He's one of those guys that had
- 20:25the question going women only like assholes.
- 20:27Like dude, you're so fucking stupid.
- 20:29I mean, what can I say though? I am an asshole, but you know,
- 20:33that's just like a it's just a perchance type.
- 20:35Of thing, it's just a coincidence, yeah.
- 20:38You know, OK, was that you're also ugly or did you have
- 20:43anything else? Yes I I I do think I agree with
- 20:46that. Also, Bop Riley wearing her
- 20:54So-called Life costume for what seems to be 3 days in a row for.
- 20:58Yeah. Yeah, like.
- 20:59She wonders why she's not popular.
- 21:00She's blaming it on everybody else.
- 21:01She's blaming it on Clapton. But take a shower, girl.
- 21:05Yeah. Stink.
- 21:06Yeah, she wears it to the party. It's like I implied to be on
- 21:09Thursday because she's brought into the principal's office
- 21:12hungover, which would be the next day.
- 21:14And he says you have Saturday detention all day tomorrow, and
- 21:17she's still wearing it at fucking detention.
- 21:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. Man, this movie's weird.
- 21:23Yeah, Oh, I forgot about The Breakfast Club motifs there as
- 21:27well. And they even do like an homage
- 21:29to that, like the essay they have to write.
- 21:32In the detention, yeah. So I forgot that's another
- 21:35element of blending into this movie too.
- 21:38OK. Absurd.
- 21:41Well, Speaking of detention, the fact that this movie is called
- 21:44detention and we only get detention for like 20, no, 15
- 21:48minutes, Yeah, in the final 30 minutes of the movie.
- 21:51And half of that is like detention through the decades.
- 21:54It's very much like Jason Takes Manhattan where we don't get
- 21:59Manhattan until the end of the movie.
- 22:01Like what the fuck? Although I did read that that
- 22:03was the most expensive shot was like the circular shot with the
- 22:06like going backwards through time with the different like.
- 22:11So maybe that's what he was like.
- 22:13This is where all of my personal finance.
- 22:16Is why I'm calling it detention. I'm.
- 22:17Calling it detention, it's. So fucking.
- 22:20Expensive. I need everybody to know that I
- 22:22paid the most for this scene. Interesting.
- 22:26I wonder. That's crazy that of all the
- 22:28things that they do in this movie, that was the most
- 22:29expensive. Did I have anything else then?
- 22:34Yeah, the Cinderella films, which were like whenever we
- 22:39start to watch like the word Prince in detention.
- 22:41Yeah, the 4th 1 is like a porno basically.
- 22:44It's got like Ron Jeremy and I think another porn star.
- 22:47I don't know who it is though. I pulled up her IMDb and it all
- 22:51came with. Besides detention, all of the
- 22:54movies did not have posters, so I'm gonna say they.
- 22:56Were all porns? Yeah, OK.
- 22:58Yeah. Adult film actress.
- 22:59Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 23:01So. All right, what were your
- 23:02absurds? I found it very stressful
- 23:06watching Riley and Clapton ride the skateboard together, but
- 23:11that's partly because I can't stand on a skateboard myself.
- 23:13It wasn't even a longboard. It was a skateboard.
- 23:16Yeah, that's a dude. No, no, no, you can't do that.
- 23:19You can't do that. How'd they do that?
- 23:23The one guy that just like, mugged Riley.
- 23:26Yeah. My name, Yeah, Ioni and her mom
- 23:30searching places because there's gonna be a dance off.
- 23:32That was another thing that I thought was weird.
- 23:34Like we got like at the end of this movie, we're building up.
- 23:36The climax is like, hey, here's this whole thing with Ioni and
- 23:39her mom going and doing like a a Freaky Friday type situation
- 23:44where they're just swapping body.
- 23:45It's like, do we need this? This is going on for 10 minutes.
- 23:48Yeah. And like, the thing with that is
- 23:50that it was very intriguing when we were getting, like, these
- 23:53flashbacks through the past, like, month or so.
- 23:55And we see that Ione and Riley used to be best friends.
- 23:58And I'm like, oh. So this is part of the reason
- 24:00she feels like everything is terrible because she's had a
- 24:03really hellish mind. She's lost her best friend and
- 24:05the guy she's got a crush on. Yeah.
- 24:07So. Yeah, this movie does tie things
- 24:10up OK at the end though, and it does a pretty like with how many
- 24:13places it goes, it does a decent enough job.
- 24:15Does manage to tie most of the things together?
- 24:17Yeah, that's that's pretty impressive.
- 24:19Yeah, yeah. The, the whole thing, there's
- 24:22just, there's so much that just comes at you.
- 24:24But the I'm also going to call absurd on the fact that the most
- 24:28popular girls in the school are saying that everybody's got to
- 24:32go see Cinder Hella 2 in theaters.
- 24:34Because let me tell you, I would have been the one saying we all
- 24:36got to go see Cinder Hella 2 in the theaters in high school.
- 24:39And I was by and large the opposite of the most popular
- 24:42every girl in school so. I'm in the same boat as you man.
- 24:47Yeah, people were watching like Twilight and shit back then.
- 24:51Yeah. And look at us now.
- 24:53Yeah, we're. Just we're we're late to the
- 24:56party on that one, OK. OK.
- 24:59So overall rating, what are you giving this?
- 25:03I think I got to give this one a 5A. 5.
- 25:06Yeah, it's way too scatterbrained for me, man.
- 25:08Like it's just it it doesn't keep a cohesive plot, thought,
- 25:12story, character, anything throughout the entire movie and
- 25:16it just like it keeps getting lost in itself and it always me
- 25:19because of that I. Get an 8.
- 25:22OK, that's, you know, that's I'm glad that this movie has its
- 25:25audience out there. Like we say, it's you.
- 25:28This one just not as much for me.
- 25:30Like I, I can appreciate a lot of the things that they pull off
- 25:33in it, but it's just, it's just too, it's too much.
- 25:38Yeah, way too much for me. OK, I'm stupid.
- 25:41I can't do this well. We have a starting average of
- 25:436.5. OK.
- 25:45So that's better than 90°. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:48OK, Not bad. Are we ready to talk about it?
- 25:50We are. OK, so we start off.
- 25:53Taylor Fisher wakes up and she lets us know that she's a bitch.
- 25:56Beauty, intelligence, talent, Charisma.
- 25:59Hoobastank. Speaking of Tim and Eric, that's
- 26:03one of the things I always think of Zach Galifianakis going who
- 26:06bustink. He's like giving acting lessons.
- 26:09Yeah, yeah, she loves indie music, takes her pecs and did
- 26:13something at the Pizza Pit, judging from all of her
- 26:15voicemails. Jeez, yeah, something went down
- 26:18there. She's also hyping up Cinderella
- 26:202 Beauty Scream. Love the title of that.
- 26:22That's amazing. God I want to.
- 26:24I want Cinderella 2 for our TV or not to be this I.
- 26:28Know man, I want that movie dude.
- 26:30The director writers, you guys make that movie.
- 26:33Please get. We have a montage of her
- 26:37explaining how to be cool. This was happening so fast I
- 26:40didn't have time to write down. Yeah exactly.
- 26:42It's going so fucking fast. She's getting mad at her mom for
- 26:44making breakfast and shit. And she was like, I don't eat
- 26:46bread. She goes since when?
- 26:48Since right now. I hate you.
- 26:50And then she gets a text from Cinder Hella saying that they're
- 26:53gonna kill her, and then she's not taking it seriously.
- 26:55And then what do you know? Cinder Hella is there and kills
- 26:57her. Then we have Grizzly, like
- 27:00High's second biggest loser of all time, waking up in her bed.
- 27:04She's late for the bus because apparently it comes early on
- 27:06Wednesdays. Why?
- 27:07I don't know. That's not how buses work, no.
- 27:12And she asks her dad for a ride to school and he says sure.
- 27:14And then he goes, Nope, still drunk.
- 27:16And then the movie lets us know that detention does not support.
- 27:20Yeah, does not come down. Yeah, so she's walking to school
- 27:24now and she gets mugged. By Seger Clapton.
- 27:29So at first we thought Clapton had like customized Chuck Taylor
- 27:34All Stars that said Josh Hutcherson on him.
- 27:36And we're like, dude, that's so cool.
- 27:38And then we realized that it was just doing really snappy opening
- 27:41credits. I choose to believe that they
- 27:43actually still have Josh Hutcherson on there.
- 27:45Like in this universe, he's a fan of Josh Hutcherson.
- 27:47He's like, this guy's gonna blow up one day.
- 27:50I hope that Josh Hutcherson he actually has Josh Hutcherson All
- 27:54Stars. I mean, they exist.
- 27:56We saw them in the movie. I hope he got to keep that prop.
- 27:59I I really hope so too for. Him.
- 28:01Oh, we also have Dane Cook. It's so weird that Dane Cook is
- 28:04in this movie, but he's a principal and he's kind of an
- 28:07asshole. Yeah, he's.
- 28:09I think this is him telling the girl that she needs to not be
- 28:12pregnant because teenage pregnancy is not exactly good
- 28:15and. That's not a cute, quirky little
- 28:17romantic comedy. And she was like, I'm not
- 28:19pregnant. He goes, OK, well, then lighten
- 28:21up on the carbs. Yes?
- 28:25Dane Cook. I don't know anything about as a
- 28:27human or as a comedian, but I've seen him in a couple of movies
- 28:30and I think he's OK as an actor. He's not bad, yeah.
- 28:33That's all I'm going to say about him.
- 28:34I just, I'm at a point in my life now where I just assume all
- 28:37comedians are shitty and the only people that I know for that
- 28:41I don't think are shitty at this point are Nate Vargatzi and
- 28:44Micro Biblia. And if there are bad things
- 28:46about him, I don't want to hear it.
- 28:47Y'all. I don't.
- 28:48What about Jim Gaffigan? I don't know much about him
- 28:52either. I could see, I could see him
- 28:53having like some, some demons. Some Hot Pocket demons, yeah.
- 29:00Caliente pockets, yeah. I don't think Dane Cook is a bad
- 29:04guy. He looks unrecognizable now.
- 29:07He's had a lot of plastic surgery.
- 29:08Yeah, yeah. It's he's like a different
- 29:12looking dude entirely, but I don't think he's a bad person.
- 29:14I think he just caught a lot of hate because he was a very
- 29:16popular comedian in this era. And he, like in his era, was the
- 29:19edge Lord humor. Yeah, it's like the dude bro
- 29:21humor. Like, you know, if it's not your
- 29:23thing then whatever, but he's not a bad guy.
- 29:25The The bar has gotten really low here over the past decade.
- 29:28Yeah. The landscape has changed.
- 29:31Anyways, moving on, we see Clapton.
- 29:34He's getting bullied by what, Billy?
- 29:37Says yeah. Billy challenges him to fight
- 29:39for Ione at 3, and Riley tells Clapton that Ione is not worth
- 29:45dying over. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:49And he's going to fight him and Sanders there.
- 29:51And he asks Riley at the prom. And she's like, oh, what?
- 29:55Because I'm a girl, that's the only thing that I can care about
- 29:57in the world. And so basically she says no.
- 30:01I understand that, but like, that's probably why you don't
- 30:04have a lot of friends in high school if that's your approach.
- 30:06Somebody's wanting to take you to prom.
- 30:08Like, I don't know, Like you can just, if you're not interested,
- 30:10say no, I don't really like to do that.
- 30:13But she's like no, no, no, no. What?
- 30:15What movie was it? I think it was on last year's
- 30:17prom month. Maybe it was Mary Lou too, where
- 30:19she was like talking about how like, guys, just don't ever ask
- 30:23her out. Yeah, it was shit.
- 30:27Yeah, it's the girl cuz we get the guy that's in all the prom
- 30:30night movies. Yeah.
- 30:32And he asked her out then, or something like that.
- 30:34Yeah, you're right. Yeah.
- 30:35Yeah, it's, I mean, it's the same.
- 30:36It's the inverse of what I was talking about before with the
- 30:39male loneliness, the so-called male loneliness.
- 30:41Epidemic. It's like the opposite thing,
- 30:43yeah. Like, yeah, I get it, I was a
- 30:46miserable little thing in high school as well.
- 30:49But do some work. You'll grow.
- 30:51You'll get better. It's just not every like OK
- 30:54maybe to be fair, Sander is a pest Sander.
- 30:57Is a sex pest. Yeah, no, she on the Yeah, she
- 31:01has every right to say no to him.
- 31:02But if her stock response to anybody asking her to promise,
- 31:05like, Oh well, promise the only thing I can care about in the
- 31:08world, what about this and this and this and this?
- 31:10Yeah, I, I think it was fair to say it to him.
- 31:13Yeah, they're, they're in science class now and Clapton
- 31:17thinks that they're beaker thing, test tube, whatever.
- 31:21It looks like a bong so they light it up.
- 31:22The Science Tube. Science tube.
- 31:24Yeah, that's, that's the term, I think.
- 31:26Yeah. They they, they spark, they
- 31:28spark it up and it just sets off the fire alarm in the school and
- 31:32he gets in big, big trouble. I love this dumb dumb thinking
- 31:36that there's actually going to be a bong in class.
- 31:40Yeah, he's really fucking stupid.
- 31:42Sweet little dumb. So we get the terrible ultimatum
- 31:48of Clapton Davis. We get a lot of these like title
- 31:51cards. That's another thing I it's they
- 31:53could have been good. They could have been good if
- 31:56they had done it right. They just, I don't think he
- 31:59managed them right. So we see that last week he was
- 32:01in Principal Verge's office and Principal Verge asked him what
- 32:05he wants to do. And he's got like this whole
- 32:07music review website. He's got a very sophisticated
- 32:11rating classification system and a whole plan and.
- 32:15He's trying to be like a hipster dude that's like, yeah,
- 32:18reviewing indie music and shit like that, and it's not going to
- 32:21lead to anything. Yeah.
- 32:23So basically he's like, give me one reason to graduate.
- 32:26You get an A or save the universe.
- 32:29Yeah, this is very much like last week's movie from From
- 32:34Night 3, except in that case you want to be a doctor.
- 32:37Yeah, he's like you, dummy. You're not even smart enough to
- 32:40be a you're. You're below average.
- 32:42Even Ione is made head cheerleader because Taylor is
- 32:46not there and Riley has to be the mascot even though she's got
- 32:52the boot on her foot. Yeah, and I like this coach.
- 32:56The I think, I think it's a football coach.
- 32:59Yes. Yeah, he's.
- 33:00I love his intensity the entire time.
- 33:02It is really funny and it is exactly the right kind of way
- 33:06to, if you're going to do a spoof on a high school football
- 33:09coach like that over intensity. Yeah, no, this is one of the
- 33:12ones that landed with me. I I like this guy and this guy
- 33:14did a great job with it too. And.
- 33:16He's a good example of like the good humor in this movie because
- 33:19he's used exactly. The right amount exactly.
- 33:21Yeah, he could have been like excessive, but yeah, it was it
- 33:24was a good usage right there. He's, he's just like really
- 33:26intense and screaming and like working up the cheerleaders and
- 33:29shit. And gym class Clapton
- 33:33purposefully gets knocked out in dodgeball so he can go to the
- 33:36bleachers and watch Roadhouse so he can prepare for his fight
- 33:40with Billy Nolan. Yeah, he's learning how to fight
- 33:44through that. And then they also.
- 33:45Sanders telling him that he really needs to be studying
- 33:47Steven Seagal. No, no, there's, there's been
- 33:51like actual videos of Steven Seagal using his technique
- 33:54against like actual fighters and it's just not effective.
- 33:57It's it's a bullshit thing. You get a.
- 34:02He's he's just really bad right now.
- 34:04So they're they have debate class and Riley is giving her
- 34:08anti meat speech and she does start off with saying some
- 34:11vegetarians do eat fish. And this is the thing that
- 34:14drives me crazy because they're called Pescatu.
- 34:16Yeah, it's a different thing. It's an actual term, and that
- 34:19just bothers me because we have a word for it.
- 34:21If we have a word for a thing, use the word for the thing.
- 34:24I've but one thing having a wife that is vegan, whenever other
- 34:32people talk to me about it, they just ask me like is this vegan?
- 34:34Is this vegetarian? Like I don't know like I mean
- 34:37like is it me? Is it from like a animal like
- 34:40it's that easy. That's.
- 34:42Part of why I, I don't like it when people conflate the terms
- 34:45because then if I'm going to like some place that involves
- 34:49food and I'm like, oh, are there vegan options?
- 34:51People say yes, not knowing the difference between vegan and
- 34:54vegetarian. They just assume it's all the
- 34:56same thing. Words matter, you know what I
- 34:59mean? It's just one of those and like,
- 35:01it's a pet peeve of mine, obviously, because it impacts
- 35:03me, but it's also a pet peeve of mine because we we have a whole
- 35:08language and I think we should use it, You know, we.
- 35:10Live in a society. We live in a society.
- 35:14Gord is the other dude on the other end of the team, and this
- 35:17is the part that Jesse opened with the entire that's she said
- 35:20exactly what he says and it's fucking amazing.
- 35:23I catch writing him in my notes. You're not going to get this
- 35:25because you were an Elizabeth McGuire fan, but he was Gordo in
- 35:28my notes the entire time. I couldn't stop myself from
- 35:30writing him as Gordo. Yeah, I'm not a fan, but I saw a
- 35:35decent amount of that show. Yeah, I love this guy's.
- 35:38I love this character too. He's awesome.
- 35:41Especially later at the movie theater too.
- 35:44And so she, because she decides that she needs self esteem,
- 35:47she's she's debated into that viewpoint.
- 35:51So I guess Gord won the debate. He won and he might drop, like,
- 35:55yeah, how do you come back from that?
- 35:57And. I was trying to think, is there
- 35:59an actual comeback? She eats a burger and then she's
- 36:03at a low point and Sandra comes to hit on her and she's not
- 36:06feeling it. And then she tries to go sit
- 36:08with Ione and the cheerleaders and they all leave her by
- 36:11herself. So.
- 36:12Yeah, and then she is in the hallway and she's just decided
- 36:16she's gonna kill herself. Yeah, so she ties a noose and
- 36:20she goes up there and she can't even do that because she kicks
- 36:23out the chair and she's just kind of choking.
- 36:25Yeah, this is, this is a rough scene to watch because it it
- 36:30does kind of go on for a while and it's just it, it is really
- 36:33rough. But then it turns into
- 36:35Cinderella attacking her and ends up cutting the ropes so
- 36:38she's no longer up in the rafters.
- 36:40And that's another absurd thing. Cinderella couldn't even take
- 36:43her out. She's she's injured, she's in a
- 36:46leg brace and she's hanging stationary on her rope and you
- 36:49can't kill her with an axe. What the fuck?
- 36:51Well, and I think later when we find out spoiler that it's
- 36:54Sander, it kind of makes sense that he like, wants to stalk her
- 36:59and scare her. But yeah, try and kill her just
- 37:02yet. He may have changed his mind.
- 37:05I think he was mad at the rejection here.
- 37:07And then he was like, all right, I'm going to kill you then.
- 37:09And then he started it over. He's like, all right, I'll have
- 37:11another shot. She ends up the the bell rings,
- 37:15so the halls start filling up, and Cinderella runs away.
- 37:18Everybody's outside watching the fight that's about to happen
- 37:21between Clapton and Billy. And Riley runs out.
- 37:24She's like, I was just attacked. And they're like, like, what do
- 37:27you, what do you even care about?
- 37:29And then the cops pull up, and they're like, all right, your
- 37:32classmate Taylor Fisher was murdered.
- 37:34And she's like, oh, my God, I was just attacked.
- 37:36And they're like, ma'am, this is not about you.
- 37:39Yeah. Yeah, and the cops, they break
- 37:43up the fight too. And.
- 37:45She was in her room later that night and she's crying and she's
- 37:48reading her yearbook and it's like nice things that's being
- 37:51said about everybody, like how Clapton is like the friendliest
- 37:55person and if you got a high 5 of from him, you'd feel special.
- 37:58And Ione is like one of the friends, like one one of the
- 38:02prettiest, bubbliest cheerleaders, whatever.
- 38:05And then next to Riley's, it said better luck next year,
- 38:08buddy. And so she's crying, and then,
- 38:11oh, here's Cinderella back for more.
- 38:14So she runs out into her backyard and then into the
- 38:17neighbor's yard. And like, we get this kind of
- 38:19really cool chasing because it's going through the backyard swing
- 38:22set and then the clothesline. And then eventually she falls
- 38:25into the pool. And this is where the cops come
- 38:29again. And they still don't believe
- 38:31that she was attacked. They're like, making a bunch of
- 38:33references to, like, scream. Yeah.
- 38:35And then Clapton's across the street, so he's like, let's ride
- 38:39and talk. And she's like dude, she is so
- 38:41fucking full of herself. She's like this whole thing
- 38:43feels just like a conspiracy to make me sound cliched.
- 38:47Dude you need to get over your 17 year old angsty bullshit.
- 38:52This is is this so we're her like here with her and just
- 38:56clapping on the skateboard now. Yeah, like so much their their
- 38:59relationship like fucking explodes in this moment here.
- 39:02I like I was like, did they have a thing?
- 39:05Is there a thing ongoing currently?
- 39:07Because like by the end of it, she's like, hey, I'm coming with
- 39:10you and Ione Ione. Ione.
- 39:13To the movie theater, make room for 1/3 wheel or whatever.
- 39:16And like, I don't know, just the whole like I, I was.
- 39:19So it was like whiplash, just like, what the fuck happened?
- 39:21Like are they together? What happened?
- 39:24Because he's trying to be with Ione the entire time, but she's
- 39:27making herself very assertive here or something.
- 39:29Yeah. And I think so, I guess, and the
- 39:32gist of what we're going to get later is that about a month ago,
- 39:35Ione suddenly got really into 90s music, which really like hit
- 39:40all of Clapton's beats, you know?
- 39:42You know, the same thing happened to me in high school.
- 39:45I got super into Nirvana in high school.
- 39:48I was like fuck man, What? I just did you know about Kurt
- 39:54Cobain before you? Yeah, yeah, I knew about that.
- 39:56I'm. Just thinking about that bit
- 39:58from Parks and Rec where he's like, the town just discovered
- 40:01Nirvana, I don't have the heart to tell them what's gonna
- 40:03happen. In 1994, you know, Harlan was
- 40:07kind of like that too, I guess, yeah.
- 40:10So they're at Cinderella and. I like how Cinderella is
- 40:14basically it's basically Mary Lou mixed with Saw because
- 40:19they're playing on the torture porn mixed.
- 40:21With Sleep Away Camp because she's a moralistic killer, much
- 40:25like Angela Baker. What was her reason for killing?
- 40:28That the prom queen wasn't a virgin.
- 40:30Oh really? Oh shit, that was totally Angela
- 40:32She. Was like you had the worst kind
- 40:34of sex premarital. Is there a good kind of sex in
- 40:39that situation? Then I guess when you're
- 40:41married. OK, so.
- 40:43Your answer. It's not that deep, Yeah.
- 40:48But I like, I like the like little clip of the movie we get
- 40:51here because I I want to watch that.
- 40:53Yeah. You know, like it looks like it
- 40:54would be fun. And she's like, I can't carve.
- 40:58I've threw my ABS. I've been doing Pilates all
- 41:00year. Ione is being very disruptive
- 41:04during the movie. And then Gord, who's an usher in
- 41:06the theatre, comes and yells at Riley about it and they have a
- 41:10debate about the contract of a movie ticket.
- 41:12I'm on Gord's side. Again, he is.
- 41:14This dude's a legendary. That's correct.
- 41:16He's like in the it's the way that he speaks, too.
- 41:19It's very like a matter of fact, like I have won this every
- 41:23single time. And he, yeah, he rules.
- 41:27Then they go bowling afterwards and Ione and Riley were like
- 41:32arguing because Ione says that Riley is not hot enough to be
- 41:36murdered in a slasher. Yeah, they're talking about
- 41:39because she's like, insisting that Cinder Heller is trying to
- 41:42kill her, too. And they're like, no, you're not
- 41:44hot enough. The only reason they killed
- 41:46Taylor is because she was the most popular and prettiest.
- 41:48Yeah. So like, if it's gonna be
- 41:49anybody, it's gonna be me and it's gonna be next.
- 41:51And Riley? Says yeah.
- 41:52And they're like, well, she does have to be the main hero because
- 41:56she's a virgin. And she's like, actually, I'm
- 41:57not a virgin. So then we flashed back to
- 42:01reveal that Ione and Riley used to be friends, and Ione had
- 42:05encouraged Riley to ask Clapton out.
- 42:07And then all of a sudden. Yeah, she's took an interest to.
- 42:10Is this when we also get like the talent show thing I guess?
- 42:14Yes, like the dancing thing. Yeah, they do the dancing thing
- 42:16and she sees Ione in the audience with Clapton and she
- 42:21falls off the stage and that's how she broke her foot.
- 42:23Yeah, it was like 2 weeks ago or something.
- 42:25So the school is closed so everybody can grieve Taylor
- 42:28Fisher's death, but everybody instead is like partying or at
- 42:31the mall or preparing for the football game.
- 42:34At the football game, Billy's hands are sticking to the ball
- 42:38and then when he manages to get them free, he falls backwards
- 42:41and they get stuck to Riley's mascot costume uniform thing.
- 42:46And then he vomits acid and melts somebody's helmet.
- 42:50It's just like, what the fuck is happening here?
- 42:52And he, like, runs to the locker room, him and Riley.
- 42:56Riley follows to confront him and figure out what's going on.
- 42:58And this is where we get the lonely ballad Billy Nolan.
- 43:02This is so fucking weird. Like OK, so he's a kid.
- 43:07He has Richard Brake as his dad. It's not going well already.
- 43:11Yeah, this already like set up for failure there.
- 43:14I like, I fucking love Richard Brake, but he's typecast as a
- 43:17piece of shit and everything. If you're in a movie and Richard
- 43:21Brake is part of your family, you're fucked, Yeah.
- 43:24He goes and wanders the woods with his dog and there's a
- 43:28meteor that hits and he goes over there and he touches it and
- 43:32he gets fly powers. And his hand is like freaky so
- 43:36his dad forces him to wear ATV on it and so everybody teases
- 43:40him and calls him TV hand. This could have been good.
- 43:43Yeah, it could have been it just like it.
- 43:45I think the play, like the timing of doing it here when it
- 43:49was done, I don't know. There's something about it.
- 43:51It had a lot of potential because I love the imagery of
- 43:53this kid with ATV on his hand and the kids just, like, pulling
- 43:57him in the classroom, like, pointing at him.
- 43:59Yeah, He's like on the playground and they're trying to
- 44:01fire him. He's just like swinging the TV
- 44:02around at kids. Yeah, and eventually his hand
- 44:05can look mostly normal so he takes the TV off.
- 44:08But he does get random fly powers, such as when he is
- 44:11sexing. Yeah, just pros wings.
- 44:14Yeah. So he gets stuck to Riley again,
- 44:20but this time it's in like a fucking type position.
- 44:23And Clapton walks in and sees what appears to him to be sex.
- 44:28And again, I'm confused because he's like, is this the part
- 44:31where I'm supposed to say, how could you?
- 44:33Like, were you guys a thing here?
- 44:36Yeah, it really feels like Clapton is trying to both have
- 44:39his cake and eat it. I it's just so weird.
- 44:42I don't understand the relationships in this movie.
- 44:45Yeah, you don't get to say like, oh, I'm with Ione, we're going
- 44:48to prom. But also, Riley, you must
- 44:50continue to pine for me. Yeah, how, like, how could you,
- 44:53like, have sex while I'm over here trying to pursue sex with
- 44:55somebody else? Yeah.
- 44:56It's kind of messed up. Yeah, yeah.
- 44:59So we cut to Sander hosting a party at his house.
- 45:04Riley is very, very drunk and because she sees Clapton and
- 45:09Ione making out, she wants to make him jealous.
- 45:11So she's like Sander, come dance with me.
- 45:13And the dancing is very painful. And it, this is another one
- 45:16that's kind of funny cuz it's just Sander.
- 45:19Anytime that they're dancing, he's just like yelling the
- 45:22entire time. Yeah.
- 45:25And then, then. He's cuz he is dressed as Jean
- 45:28Luc Picard. He told Riley that it was a
- 45:30costume party so they are the only two in costume.
- 45:34She is Claire Dane from My so-called Life which is amazing.
- 45:40Riley really just she was a character like not gonna peak in
- 45:44high school. Just wait till your 20s or 30s.
- 45:46Yeah, man, it gets better. Yeah, it's fine.
- 45:49But he's got a pinky ring on and it gets caught in her like
- 45:53overall buckle. Relatable.
- 45:56I feel that. But like, he's trying to get it
- 45:58out and in the process of doing that, like, opens up her shirt.
- 46:02Yep, and we get booby. And we get booby, and it's all
- 46:04recorded on film, and everybody acts like Riley did something
- 46:08wrong with this. And this pisses me off.
- 46:10And I'm going to say that this is one of the ugliest that I
- 46:12forgot to bring up earlier. Yeah, that it kind of ties into
- 46:15Sander being a sex fest, because if he hadn't been groping her,
- 46:18it wouldn't have happened in the first place.
- 46:19Yeah. Well, you see, The thing is, I
- 46:21don't think anybody has a problem with it in the moment
- 46:23here because they're like everybody's psyched about it
- 46:25because they see boobs. But like it after the fact,
- 46:28there's a fight, but like we're skipping ahead.
- 46:31We'll we'll come back in a second, but that's.
- 46:33What the movie does, it's. That's true.
- 46:34When it comes back to things, when she's brought back into the
- 46:36principal's office, they blame the fight because she revealed
- 46:39her boob. And it's like, yeah, the leap of
- 46:41logic there is like, I think it's supposed to be stupid and
- 46:44supposed to be funny. I think it's meant to be like a
- 46:46joke. But it also in it's honestly,
- 46:50it's kind of a real thing though.
- 46:52Like, Oh my God, you had your boob out.
- 46:56It doesn't matter that it was some guy that pulled the boob
- 46:58out. That's your boob.
- 46:59Therefore it is your responsibility.
- 47:01You caused all of this with your womanly body.
- 47:04How dare you. It's just this.
- 47:06This is just how women are treated in society.
- 47:09Yeah. It's like a joke that is
- 47:11actually talking about a wider systemic issue.
- 47:14Yeah, this joke, this whole thing gets kind of weird here in
- 47:17a little bit. So OK, we're moving back.
- 47:21So there's a fight. It's Billy.
- 47:24He's there at the party and he calls Clapton out for the fight
- 47:27again, cuz now they're gonna do it and they start the fight.
- 47:31But Riley trips Billy. And he starts to have his fly
- 47:34powers come out. So he runs inside so he can, you
- 47:38know, fly out upstairs alone. And uh oh, Cinder Hall is here.
- 47:44And Cinder Hall attacks Billy cuts off a lot of his different
- 47:47body parts and is throwing them out through the window and like
- 47:49they're landing on the grill. The best part of that though, is
- 47:52he like punches ATV and he gets ATV hand back and yeah, he just
- 47:56gets caught because. He lived.
- 47:57Yeah, he gets caught because he was just trying to punch with
- 48:00the TV and gets wedged in the door.
- 48:02Yeah, so Riley's called into the principal's office, like you
- 48:05said, because there was a video of her nipple and it was
- 48:08uploaded to the Internet. It was on the news.
- 48:10And again, this is a 17 year old girl who had her boob
- 48:15involuntarily exposed and it was recorded.
- 48:18And now this is being like, parade it around for everybody
- 48:21to fucking see and, you know, without her consent.
- 48:24You know what else? It's also child pornography.
- 48:26And it's child pornography. Yeah.
- 48:27And she is the one that's in trouble for it.
- 48:30Yeah, they they call her like, all right, so you're a porn star
- 48:33now. What are you doing?
- 48:34Making a little porn flicks over here?
- 48:35And another thing that's weird, like the teacher there that she
- 48:40likes, she's offended that he didn't watch the video.
- 48:44Like that's like that's that's a green flag dude.
- 48:48Like the fact that he didn't want to watch your like, look at
- 48:51your underage boobs. That's good.
- 48:53Yeah, and this is where Principal Verge tells them that
- 48:56everybody that was near Billy Nolan in that video are going to
- 48:59have detention tomorrow from 10A to 10B, right through the.
- 49:03Prom Saturday detention. Is this a real thing or is this
- 49:06a thing just created for this movie?
- 49:07I don't know, I was like a goody 2 shoes in high school so I
- 49:11never had detention. You never had detention?
- 49:13I never had detention, dude. Bad detention.
- 49:15What'd you do? I can't remember.
- 49:18Can you not remember it? Do you just not want to admit
- 49:20it? No I can't remember, I remember
- 49:22my AE1 because that one was dumb as fuck, but the detention one
- 49:26was in high school and I can't remember exactly why.
- 49:30Oh well, I just read books in it.
- 49:33So she is upset. She feels very low.
- 49:37The teacher, Mr. Kendall, I think, yeah, he is trying to
- 49:40comfort her. And then she was like, maybe I
- 49:42like older men. And he's like, and he goes in
- 49:45with his boyfriend. Yeah.
- 49:48So we see a sad student montage of everybody that's not going to
- 49:52be able to go to prom because they got to go to detention
- 49:54instead. And then we get the disturbing
- 49:57education of the time, the disturbing abduction of the time
- 50:00travelling bear. This is just I don't need this
- 50:03at all. It was.
- 50:04It was done if you ask me. Yeah, it's just the bear running
- 50:07into a spaceship that looks like it has a forest inside.
- 50:10Like, it serves no purpose for this movie.
- 50:12I think it was just like, hey, this is funny, right, guys?
- 50:15What do you think? It's like, yeah, I hate it.
- 50:18It kills all of the momentum we have here.
- 50:21Verge says that he'll let everybody go once the killer
- 50:24fesses up and they all start fighting.
- 50:27And there's just a guy in a in a hoodie.
- 50:30He's had daily detention for 19 years.
- 50:32Says Elliot. Yeah, this is the silent enigma
- 50:35of Elliot Fink, and this is where we cut backwards 19 years
- 50:40to see all the various detentions with him just sitting
- 50:42there in his hoodie, carving at the desk.
- 50:44It is cool. Yeah, he was.
- 50:47And like, and we see like his first one where he's being
- 50:51brought in there and they're like, you're OK, I will.
- 50:53Not have a budding pornographer in my school.
- 50:56I will let you finish detention when I say you're reformed.
- 50:59And then he remembers looking up and seeing a blonde girl who
- 51:03looks just like Ione, and she's like trying to get a cell phone
- 51:05to work and she doesn't have signal in 1992.
- 51:09Two. Yeah.
- 51:13The perfect enigma of Ione and Sloan's mind swap.
- 51:16And again, this is another weird thing that's just like, OK, so
- 51:20Ione and her mom swap bodies. She went back to 1992 to learn
- 51:24how to dance. Yeah, her mom was like, Oh yeah,
- 51:26no, I can do the dance off for you.
- 51:29And that night, because of the like alien shit, like their
- 51:34bodies swap and Ione wakes up in her mom's body in 1992 and her
- 51:39mom is in her body in 2011. And that's why all of a sudden
- 51:43she's super into 90s stuff and can attracts Clapton that way.
- 51:47Yeah, and they're all like more comfortable in that era, too.
- 51:50It did make me nostalgic for the 90s.
- 51:52I wanted to go back. Yeah, the worthless yearning of
- 51:56Kef Verge. He wanted to ask Sloan out to
- 51:58prom and she is like on the bus again, a very upset about her
- 52:03phone not working and she says absolutely no way, we're not
- 52:07doing prom together. And he wants to make a bomb, but
- 52:10instead he burns his face trying to end the future.
- 52:14Yeah, we're back at detention. There's a bloody shoe on.
- 52:18We're back at 2011 detention. Yeah, yeah, there's a bloody
- 52:22shoe on Riley's desk. Something happened while they
- 52:24were doing these, like flashbacks or side stories or
- 52:28whatever. People are gone and have people
- 52:32left. I think Sander and Clapton are
- 52:34both gone, right? Not yet, not yet.
- 52:37So a Bear and Taylor shoe appear on Riley's desk, and they decide
- 52:42that they need to figure out what's gonna happen, because
- 52:44this sounds like the setup of Cinderella 3.
- 52:46Yeah, they really so. They torn it to figure out what
- 52:49is gonna happen next. Yeah, they realize the killer is
- 52:51in the room. They're present, so it's one of
- 52:53them. Yeah.
- 52:55So they they torrent the movie for Cinder Hella 3, which is
- 52:59exactly what like is playing out.
- 53:01Exactly like their situation. Is right, and the movie they're
- 53:04torrenting in Cinder Hella 3 is Beauty Beast 4 starring Ron
- 53:09Jeremy. Yeah.
- 53:10And I guess they get the plan from that.
- 53:13Is there time travel or something in that?
- 53:15And they're like, OK, I guess we got a time travel.
- 53:17Is that what happens? I, I don't know, I start losing
- 53:21the plot real hard, right? Here I do too.
- 53:23Time travel happens. I I go so crazy trying to make
- 53:27it make sense in my head that it makes less sense.
- 53:28Listen, this movie is just so all over the place already.
- 53:32I just, I, I do lose a lot of what's happening.
- 53:34We we cut it to Gord that though.
- 53:36Yeah, well, Verge interrupts. He tells them no touring movies
- 53:40in his library. And then as he's closing the
- 53:42door while he leaves, we see that Gord is dead on the back of
- 53:45the door, and then Verge is killed outside in the hall.
- 53:49So Elliot says that he figured out this equation on his death
- 53:55desk, which means that the world is ending in 10 minutes in 1992.
- 54:00Again, what the fuck? Why?
- 54:01Why are we doing this? Why not just make this a simple
- 54:04thing with the killer? Just like, here's the killer,
- 54:06let's get the killer, we got the killer, now we have the fucking
- 54:10world ending in 1992. Why?
- 54:14And this is where they realize that Clapton and Sander are
- 54:16missing and they're like, wow, Clapton really has always hated
- 54:19Virgin. Loves the 90s.
- 54:20He must be the killer. So they go back to the 90s
- 54:25because Toshiba, he's also been there this whole time.
- 54:29Yeah, he's just been turning the bear in the school hallway into
- 54:33a time machine. So they use it to send Riley
- 54:36back to 1992. And while she's running through
- 54:38the hall, she sees her dad as a senior, and she says you need to
- 54:41sober up before mom leaves you. No, yeah, she said.
- 54:45This is why mom left you. And he's like, what?
- 54:47This is why mom doesn't fucking love you hurts.
- 54:52She finds Clapton who is like a star in class, like he's got the
- 54:57highest grade ever on the test. It's just a name.
- 55:00He's not going to know, man. And she's like, I know you're
- 55:02the killer. He goes, I'm not the killer.
- 55:04Sander is helping Verge build a bomb, though.
- 55:08Oh, maybe we should go stop them.
- 55:10And she's like, yes, let's kill Sander.
- 55:12We have to. He goes, I just meant like
- 55:14kidnap him. You really took it to 100.
- 55:17Like we, we don't have to kill him.
- 55:19I thought savior because they realize that they're doing it in
- 55:21front of the entire class and then clapped was like and scene
- 55:24they. Just walk out.
- 55:27So they find Clap or Sander with Verge in the science class, and
- 55:32yeah, they're making a bomb. Sander's really encouraging him
- 55:35to set the bomb off, and he's OK with that because.
- 55:39Because I own Ioni. Gotta keep.
- 55:41Slash Sloan. Yeah, rejected him for prom.
- 55:45So they kidnapped Sander and they're taking him to the bear,
- 55:48but it's too late. The bomb has gone off.
- 55:52So they get back into the bear again.
- 55:54This time they're only 6 minutes before the bomb goes off and
- 55:58they realize that it's because Sloane Sashayone rejected Verge.
- 56:03And they're like, you need to go to prom with him.
- 56:07And this is a really gross thing.
- 56:09She's like, I don't want to go to prom with him so you can't
- 56:12make me. And then he's like, are you
- 56:13going to kiss me with tongue? You're going to put out like,
- 56:15it's really fucking gross. Like it is you went.
- 56:18From like a prom, which at its basic level is just like
- 56:22dressing up and dancing. So like vagina please.
- 56:25Yeah, I think that's what like, what a lot of people expect.
- 56:28It's so fucking gross. Yeah, Yep.
- 56:32And yeah, she agrees. So he doesn't do the bomb.
- 56:36Then Riley and Clapton are trying to get back to 2011, and
- 56:41this is where we discovered that.
- 56:43So the whole joke has been that she's Grizzly High's second
- 56:46biggest loser because the first biggest loser was somebody who
- 56:50gave the stuffed bear a blowjob in 1992.
- 56:54And then we realized that this was actually her trying to get
- 56:56The Time Machine to work. Yeah.
- 56:58'Cause she's pulling the lever and it's like stuck and it's
- 57:00like right in the Dick area. And the person who took the
- 57:03photograph of her doing that, Yeah.
- 57:06Yeah, I like that. That was a good time, right?
- 57:08There. And you see him being whisked
- 57:10away by the principal to detention.
- 57:13Then Xander just explodes. Yeah, he brings the bomb and he
- 57:17thinks he's going to set the bomb off anyway, but it's not
- 57:19done correctly, so he just ends up exploding himself.
- 57:23Yeah. But they get back to the future,
- 57:25and the future is different. Verge is cool, like everybody
- 57:28likes him. He's still with Sloane or Ione,
- 57:31I don't know. It's ione at this point.
- 57:33Yeah, yeah, it's Ione still in Sloane's body, but yeah.
- 57:37And she is, you know, she's actually really happy with him.
- 57:41It's a whole weird dynamic watching her and Sloane and her
- 57:44body and Verge interact as like a family unit.
- 57:48Clapton and Riley when prom king and queen.
- 57:52Yeah, they're popular. Too, Yeah.
- 57:55And. And so one of the things is that
- 57:58Clapton said Clapton don't dance, but he while he was
- 58:03learning the ways of Swayze in Roadhouse, he also watched some
- 58:06other sleazy things and picked up some some dance moves.
- 58:09He saw Yeah, he he does the dance.
- 58:11He dirty dances her. Gord is alive and he is in the
- 58:15band on stage. And Sanders there, and he grabs
- 58:21a knife and it turns out he's Cinder Hallo.
- 58:25Yeah, and cuz the whole future hasn't changed.
- 58:28Billy and Taylor are both still dead.
- 58:30Sander is Cinderella and so he and Clapton end up fighting but
- 58:34then Riley jumps up and she assists.
- 58:37Like he ends up being pulled into the barracks.
- 58:38There's like a magnetic force thing.
- 58:40I don't the time travel. I don't understand, it just
- 58:43starts sucking them in. And then we get like a breakfast
- 58:45club outro where like instead of like we discovered each one of
- 58:49us is a jock, a freak, a Princess.
- 58:53Like instead we get each one of us is a child, an adult, a king,
- 58:59a queen. And an alien.
- 59:01Because an alien. Because Gord is actually an
- 59:04alien that took the persona of a Canadian to come and take over a
- 59:09planet Earth. Yep.
- 59:10And that's the end of it. That's the end of it.
- 59:13You know, I'm kind of mad at this for not trying to see if
- 59:17there's an after credit scene because this is the type of
- 59:18movie that I think is prime for one.
- 59:20To be fair, it was to be, and I think sometimes, like our brains
- 59:23just accept when it goes to the small screen to like, oh, that
- 59:27means the movie's really over. No need to pull this up and see
- 59:30if there's after credits. I think you're right.
- 59:32I'm going to check IMDb to see because there's like the crazy
- 59:34credits. Yes, crazy credits.
- 59:37OK, here we go. Just past 6 minutes into the
- 59:40film, cast and crew names appear on and replace the names of
- 59:43various brand. Oh, that's not.
- 59:45Oh, I guess it's opening crowds. Yeah, never mind then.
- 59:48OK. Yeah, there's no after crowds.
- 59:50OK. All right.
- 59:51OK. So that's that.
- 59:52That's how the movie goes, it concludes.
- 59:56Listen, I think it's a movie that almost works better if you
- 59:59don't think about it and you just accept everything that's
- 1:00:02flying at your face and have fun with it.
- 1:00:04I'm gonna keep it in an 8. I think it's fun.
- 1:00:07I don't think it's like. This is a gut 8, you know what I
- 1:00:10mean. This is a movie that I have to I
- 1:00:14have to not pay attention to, I have to like, very passively
- 1:00:17watch it or else I'll get frustrated.
- 1:00:19Yeah. I'm keeping A5.
- 1:00:21It's just not for me, man. It's I The things that it does
- 1:00:24well, it excels in pretty well. But like just the other like the
- 1:00:30whole structure of it kills it for me.
- 1:00:32Yeah, OK. You said you're keeping it A5.
- 1:00:36So same score. All right, 6.5 Natalia, like she
- 1:00:41was, dude, there was a squirrel outside that was just fucking
- 1:00:46shit up for her the entire time she was on edge.
- 1:00:49She didn't trust the bear because of the squirrel, and she
- 1:00:53was like, that bear is just a larger squirrel and squirrels
- 1:00:56are no good, I think. I think this movie actually
- 1:00:58scared. Her.
- 1:00:58I think it soothed her at the end though with The Dirty
- 1:01:01Dancing. Yes, because you dirty dance
- 1:01:03with her. Yeah, that's how I get her up on
- 1:01:05the couch. That's.
- 1:01:05How you get her up on the couch in the bed?
- 1:01:07Yeah. She likes to jump.
- 1:01:08And then like, you take her the rest of the way.
- 1:01:09Yeah. And I'll hold her above my head.
- 1:01:13So I think I think she'll give it a 7.
- 1:01:15OK. All right.
- 1:01:17Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior? This is gonna be tough.
- 1:01:21Maybe. I think that OK, I think she
- 1:01:24sees herself as gored because I think she thinks when she's
- 1:01:27meowing at us about dinner time, she's like laying down the hard
- 1:01:30facts like gored is. I was also going to say Gored,
- 1:01:33but because we often joke that Zoe might not actually be a cat,
- 1:01:36she might be alien. In a cat.
- 1:01:37Also. True.
- 1:01:38Yeah, Yeah. OK, there we go.
- 1:01:39She's gored then. OK.
- 1:01:41She is gored OK Dream sequel. OK, let's see.
- 1:01:49Honestly, bring Josh Hutcherson back.
- 1:01:52This movie does enough weird shit.
- 1:01:54Just put them in a cinder hella movie.
- 1:01:56Yes. That would be fun.
- 1:01:58Yeah, like pull them all, like actually into a cinder hella
- 1:02:01book. Kind of like final girls, like
- 1:02:03pulled into the movie. Yeah, I think that that would do
- 1:02:05well. Yeah, I would watch that for
- 1:02:07sure because I really want to watch a Cinder hella movie and
- 1:02:09that'd be the closest I could get to.
- 1:02:12That make get Pamela Springsteen's Angela Baker.
- 1:02:17Yeah, that would be awesome. Like no offense, Melissa, I love
- 1:02:20you and you're doing great things.
- 1:02:22I just the particular brand of Angela Baker.
- 1:02:27It's a different character. Sleepway Camp 2 and 3.
- 1:02:29Yeah, they're, they're different people.
- 1:02:30Yeah, entirely. OK, cool.
- 1:02:33That was easy. Yes.
- 1:02:35OK, new tagline. OK.
- 1:02:39OK, so the original tagline is cancel your future.
- 1:02:44Yeah, not even. I don't.
- 1:02:45I don't truly get that because we don't do anything about the
- 1:02:51future in this movie. It's the past.
- 1:02:53Well, they're trying to end the future though with the bomb.
- 1:02:57I guess, yeah, that's The thing is though, I struggle because
- 1:03:01like, what? What was consistent?
- 1:03:04What was the thing in this movie?
- 1:03:05What's the thing? There's so many things you could
- 1:03:10do, like bear with us because of the band.
- 1:03:13I like that. OK, bear with us.
- 1:03:16Cuz maybe you're gonna have to bear with us here.
- 1:03:19Yeah, there's a lot that happens.
- 1:03:21OK. OK, OK.
- 1:03:23All right, we got. I've got a review.
- 1:03:28No count. It's technically 7 out of 10,
- 1:03:32but I feel like it was a very, like mixed review.
- 1:03:34It was very fair, like on both sides of like pros and cons of
- 1:03:37the movie. And I wasn't sure exactly where
- 1:03:39you landed on the movie. OK.
- 1:03:41So I thought that this would be a good like thing for us to be
- 1:03:46able to discuss, right? So this is a user review on
- 1:03:49IMDb. It says too cool for school.
- 1:03:52Actually, you might feel this trust so hard to be cool that it
- 1:03:54never quite achieves that goal. But is that a criticism?
- 1:03:58And if you think that the same man who directed this took a
- 1:04:00hiatus after his last movie, Twerk, just because he wanted to
- 1:04:03find himself in his own style rather than do one studio movie
- 1:04:06after the other, The director himself will be the first to
- 1:04:08tell you how much he despises the movie itself.
- 1:04:10Though I do think he's a bit too hard on himself on Twerk.
- 1:04:13Wait, he hates detention? He hates twerk.
- 1:04:16OK. Still, it's refreshing to see a
- 1:04:18director not being full of himself.
- 1:04:20Kudos for that. In the movie he made here,
- 1:04:22Detention is worth watching a second time just to see if you
- 1:04:25got everything right the first time around.
- 1:04:27And because of the dialogue, if you want to criticize something,
- 1:04:29I guess you can say that every character is fast with a witty
- 1:04:31response, making them all seem alike.
- 1:04:34Characters could have been developed a bit better.
- 1:04:35Still good throughout with a rather complicated story.
- 1:04:40OK, Yeah, That was one of my biggest problems was like every,
- 1:04:44everybody was too fast. Everybody like there was just
- 1:04:47like there was no dead silence. Yeah, it was always somebody
- 1:04:52talking or music and like people responded instantaneously.
- 1:04:57Nobody had to think about anything because it was just, it
- 1:05:00was almost like robotic. Yeah.
- 1:05:03It was automatic, it was weird. It was just but to the movies
- 1:05:09credit, I agree that the style is good.
- 1:05:11I do like that they have, you know, their own style.
- 1:05:15The the music video style definitely exists there and it
- 1:05:21has its humorous moments. I will disagree about the story
- 1:05:24though. The story is too out there.
- 1:05:26It's too, it's just they couldn't, he couldn't pick a
- 1:05:30thing. So he just like, it's like this
- 1:05:32movie has ADHD and it wants to go so many different directions
- 1:05:35without actually staying on a single course.
- 1:05:37So Coco, Coco, Chanel famously said before you leave the house
- 1:05:42or move one accessory, like how people have a tendency to over
- 1:05:46accessorize, like can't get their favorite.
- 1:05:48That's what this movie needed to do.
- 1:05:51Kill its darlings type thing like like.
- 1:05:53You might really like this. You might think this is cool and
- 1:05:55funny, but do we need this? Yes, you need to remove an
- 1:05:58element of something like. I think we could have removed
- 1:06:01the alien, like we didn't have to go as hard on the alien thing
- 1:06:04as we did. The alien thing didn't even
- 1:06:06really like it, didn't even go hard until like the last couple
- 1:06:09of seconds of the movie. And the only thing that you
- 1:06:11could kind of argue that it did was give Ionian Sloan the body
- 1:06:15swap. But we could have also given
- 1:06:16that to the fact that like, they've been putting The Time
- 1:06:19Machine in the bear. You know, let's give it some
- 1:06:22other sci-fi bullshit, like, oh, it caused waves that caused the
- 1:06:27body swapper, what the fuck ever.
- 1:06:29Yeah, it's a movie. You can explain it in 1000
- 1:06:31different ways. Yeah.
- 1:06:33I don't know. I didn't like that world ending
- 1:06:35thing. Like, what the fuck?
- 1:06:36Yeah. Like we have like a killer.
- 1:06:37It was just you're doing a slasher here.
- 1:06:40Why are we jumping to genres last second?
- 1:06:43What is happening? Yeah, OK.
- 1:06:45It's weird. Did we have any listener
- 1:06:49reviews? We did.
- 1:06:50OK, yay. Yeah, it's from Michael E
- 1:06:53Howard. OK, who says detention is so
- 1:06:55much fun? Though not an outright horror,
- 1:06:58it has elements of so many genres.
- 1:07:00I walk the 90s references were great since I graduated in 92.
- 1:07:04Took me back. I hadn't seen this one before,
- 1:07:06but we'll be revisiting again. 8 1/2 out of 10.
- 1:07:09OK nice. So.
- 1:07:11So you and I can talk about this movie.
- 1:07:13And I think it's cool that, like, you can put yourself in
- 1:07:16the exact year where the shit went down.
- 1:07:19Yeah, that's kind of cool. Yeah.
- 1:07:22You know, I, like I said, I'm, I'm glad that people do like
- 1:07:25this one. I, you know, I don't hate it.
- 1:07:28I would not, like, watch it again.
- 1:07:30I just don't know how much I would actually be paying
- 1:07:32attention if I watched it. I would TuneIn for the parts
- 1:07:34that I know I like. Yeah, I think that'd be it.
- 1:07:38I I like the stylisticness of it.
- 1:07:42I think that he could really fine tune this kind of thing.
- 1:07:46If he put some work to it I would definitely made it his.
- 1:07:49Own I would definitely watch another movie of his.
- 1:07:52I would watch a follow up movie to see if he like figured it
- 1:07:54out. Yeah, I just, and I know he said
- 1:07:56he's all about rhythm and tempo, but The thing is like, it's like
- 1:08:00a music video is 3 or 4 minutes long, you know, whereas this is
- 1:08:0590 minutes and you do have to have moments where it lets up.
- 1:08:08And I think maybe that's just like a like a newish director
- 1:08:11thing for. Yeah, I, I agree with that.
- 1:08:13Yeah. You gotta have that moment to
- 1:08:15just like, let people like, take it in.
- 1:08:17Yeah, like you can appreciate more like take out and it's, and
- 1:08:21this is the thing I'm, I'm gonna be fully honest, like I've been
- 1:08:24noticing more when I like cuz we take trends, editing the show,
- 1:08:28peek behind the curtain. I've been doing more and more of
- 1:08:33that. Like, do we really need to have
- 1:08:35this extra sentence? Like we're rehashing something
- 1:08:37that we've already said? And like, so just learning to
- 1:08:39cut things out 'cause like we're just two dudes with microphones.
- 1:08:45Like everything we say is not the most important thing in the
- 1:08:46world. You know what I mean?
- 1:08:47I'm like, and it's one of those things that you just kind of
- 1:08:51have to learn how to like edit yourself and realize that like
- 1:08:54everything you do on the first, second, maybe even third draft
- 1:08:58is not going to be pure gold. No, no, exactly.
- 1:09:00I am. Yeah, not much else to add to
- 1:09:04that. OK, I think we did it.
- 1:09:06I think we did go team. OK, so that is it for detention
- 1:09:11and next week is going to be another new movie for me.
- 1:09:14I'm sticking to it that this is a new I do not remember a single
- 1:09:17thing about detention. This one OK.
- 1:09:20And the next one is also new for me.
- 1:09:21Yeah, this is a new one for me too.
- 1:09:23It's called Night of the Creep. It's night, pig.
- 1:09:26Yep. It's Travis's pick.
- 1:09:28It, it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, though.
- 1:09:31I've seen a lot about it. I think the most, the thing that
- 1:09:35sold me on it the most is when we were watching Fuck, what's
- 1:09:38that documentary on 80s horror movies, Into the Darkness?
- 1:09:42Yes, yeah, they, they had like a segment talking about this movie
- 1:09:46and it looked fun. It's got motherfucking Tom
- 1:09:51Atkins in it, so get your beers, everybody.
- 1:09:55Yeah, get your 6 back because we're going to be going back to
- 1:09:58that guy next next week. It's not streaming anywhere
- 1:10:01right now, but for the low, low price of $3.99 percent of us of
- 1:10:07a fourth dollar. Percent in this yeah, you.
- 1:10:10Can rent it from Google Play, Fandango at home or Prime.
- 1:10:13Yeah, the Blu-ray, like it did just get a release I think like
- 1:10:16last month on 4K. But if you get like the cheap
- 1:10:20Blu-ray, it's like only 8 or $9. It's not that bad.
- 1:10:24OK. Yeah, which is what I'm gonna
- 1:10:26do. I'm just gonna buy the Blu-ray,
- 1:10:27OK? Why not?
- 1:10:29Wow, Travis buying a Blu-ray. Go figure.
- 1:10:31Yeah, and if I don't like it, I'll just, I don't know, I'll do
- 1:10:34something else with it, you know, we'll figure that part
- 1:10:37out. It's a friend.
- 1:10:37Yeah, we'll figure that out when that time comes.
- 1:10:39OK. So yeah, if you wanna watch
- 1:10:41that, that's how you do it. We want to thank our most
- 1:10:45special bubbies, our prom committee.
- 1:10:48Prom committee this month. Yes, thank you guys for doing
- 1:10:51your duties. We have Joe.
