- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we're talking about winning.
- 0:33Now there's a quote out there floating around, not sure who
- 0:36said it, but winners don't quit when things don't go their way.
- 0:40They strategize till they get it right.
- 0:42So this is really important, really important.
- 0:46Do you see yourself as a winner? Do you see yourself as a winner?
- 0:51I mean, it's a phrase that most of us don't necessarily even
- 0:55think about, in my opinion. I can tell you right now, if you
- 0:59asked me, do I think of myself as a winner, I'd be like, wait,
- 1:02what? Winning what, like a, a, a
- 1:05ribbon? Like, it's not something that I
- 1:07determine as a winner. But it is an interesting word to
- 1:11add into your vocabulary so that you can start seeing yourself in
- 1:14different light. And that's what this is all
- 1:17about. Boy, they're really on it this
- 1:18morning with the crowing. And it's it's interesting to add
- 1:22it in to your repertoire there to make sure that you are adding
- 1:26extra, you know, intention and good words, good descriptions
- 1:30into how you see yourself. So winner like, OK, grab a pen,
- 1:35grab a piece of paper and sit there and say, you know, how do
- 1:38I define myself if I'm winning? How do I define myself if I'm
- 1:42winning? What would I look for in myself?
- 1:45How do I describe it? Now notice if we go back to the
- 1:48quote, and again, this is really important, go back to the quote
- 1:52and actually look at what we're talking about.
- 1:55You can see it says winners don't quit when things don't go
- 1:59their way. They strategize till they get it
- 2:02right. So that means change your
- 2:04approach, which you've heard me say a bazillion times, change
- 2:07your approach, change your approach, change your approach.
- 2:09Because it's a cardinal rule in my world of coaching that as I'm
- 2:13working with people, if what we're doing isn't working, it's
- 2:17not their fault that it's not working.
- 2:19It's my fault for not coming up with an approach that will help
- 2:22them. That's the point.
- 2:24It's it's got to be something that has to help them.
- 2:28Therefore, it's my job to make sure I understand how to do
- 2:33that. I have to be the professional in
- 2:35that and figure out what do I need to do Change your approach.
- 2:38Well, this is the same thing. Shift your strategy, change what
- 2:41you're doing. Recognize that you've got to
- 2:44change it over and over and over until you get it to the point
- 2:47that it seems like you're on the right path.
- 2:49But again, if we don't look for winning, if we don't seek it
- 2:53out, we're not going to win. If we will just not do it.
- 2:56It has to be something there. Now when I started to get ready
- 2:59to record this today, I was actually thinking to myself,
- 3:01wow, winning. It's not something that I
- 3:04actually think about. Like I don't say to myself
- 3:06winning like I'm just not one of those people.
- 3:09I'll just go yay and I celebrate.
- 3:11Sure, I do a celebration, but winning.
- 3:14This probably comes back to the fact that one, I did not play
- 3:17sports as a child, very much not the sports person.
- 3:21And two, I didn't really like playing games as a kid because
- 3:26other than like, you know, trouble or perfection or
- 3:32operation, I didn't really play games.
- 3:36Card games, yes. When I got older, I started to
- 3:39play card games. I had a group of friends in high
- 3:41school that were obsessed with playing cards and we used to
- 3:44play this game that everyone knew called 45 or we would play
- 3:47poker. And I I played, I rarely won and
- 3:52I really didn't play to win. When I go back and think about
- 3:55it, I didn't play to win. I played because it was a great
- 3:58way to hang out with my friends. That was it.
- 4:00I didn't care about winning. So it not ever been a
- 4:05competitive person. Even when I went to school, we
- 4:08would submit photos for competitions.
- 4:11I didn't care about winning or beating everybody else.
- 4:14It was not something that was important to me.
- 4:17I I can't explain it, it just was not.
- 4:20So that word has a very specific meaning to me personally, really
- 4:24kind of low on the totem pole. Can I celebrate things?
- 4:28Was more important for me. Where was the celebration?
- 4:30What could I celebrate in that? And it's just a language thing,
- 4:35but you have to know this within yourself.
- 4:37So when you start feeling that, you start saying, OK, if I'm not
- 4:42attached to this word winning that we're talking about, put
- 4:45something else in its place. But think about when things
- 4:47don't go your way. You've got to strategize.
- 4:50You've got to change it. And again, this lesson is all
- 4:52about understanding that words matter to people.
- 4:55So when you use them, make sure you're aligned with a word that
- 4:59makes sense and make sure you're strategizing in a way that helps
- 5:04you get past it. If you need to change the word,
- 5:06change the word. If you need to change the
- 5:08outcome, change the outcome. But the reality is, don't
- 5:11compete. Don't keep doing the same thing
- 5:13and struggling. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:16you have a blessed day. Maybe it'll be a winning day.
- 5:19I'm wondering now, I'm going to be in my head about this all
- 5:21day. I hope you have a blessed day
- 5:24and I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
