- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. Episode 65. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey, Lucas, today we're talking about money, right? Lucas: Sort of. We're talking about prices. Two very useful adjectives: 平 and 貴. Luna: Oh yeah, we touched on those at the supermarket in episode 64. But let's really drill them. Lucas: Exactly. 平 means cheap. Say it with me: 平. Luna: 平. Lucas: Good. And 貴 means expensive. 貴. Luna: 貴. That one's a bit trickier. 貴. Lucas: You got it. Now let's put them in sentences. 呢個好平. This is very cheap. Luna: 呢個好平. Lucas: And 呢個好貴. This is very expensive. Luna: 呢個好貴. Lucas: Perfect. So imagine you're at a market and you see a nice shirt. You ask the price, and it's only fifty dollars. You'd say 呢個好平. Luna: 呢個好平! That's a bargain. Lucas: Right. But what if it's five hundred dollars? Then you'd say 呢個好貴. Luna: 呢個好貴! Too much. Lucas: And you can also say 太貴, which means too expensive. 太貴. Luna: 太貴. That's useful when you want to haggle. Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to ask for a discount, you can say 平啲, meaning cheaper. Luna: 平啲. Can you do it for cheaper? Lucas: Yes. So let's practice a mini conversation. I'll be the seller. You're the buyer. You see a bag. I say 呢個一百蚊. You say? Luna: 呢個好平! Lucas: Good. Now another bag. I say 呢個五百蚊. You say? Luna: 呢個好貴! 太貴.
