- 0:15Speaker 1: here today. We are going to go back to Ali
- 0:17Speaker 1: Fedotowski season of the Bacherette. That season six back in
- 0:21Speaker 1: twenty ten, just a baby compared to Tristan. Myself, my
- 0:25Speaker 1: guest today, was the runner up and did not end
- 0:28Speaker 1: up finding love on the Bacherette, but surprisingly still fell
- 0:31Speaker 1: in love in the bachelor world. A landscaper, a TV personality,
- 0:35Speaker 1: part of a family run oyster business, and an elected official.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We're going to talk about all this good stuff. Please
- 0:41Speaker 1: welcome to the pod. My friend who I actually know
- 0:45Speaker 1: this guy I don't normally know everyone. It's Chris Lambton
- 0:48Speaker 1: and I love Chris Lampton, so let's bring him on.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What's going on? Bob? How are you Ren?
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm great, buddy.
- 0:53Speaker 2: How are you not too bad? Thank you?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yeah? How's the family? Tell me everything? What's going on
- 0:58Speaker 1: with you? Bud?
- 1:00Speaker 3: Fam is great? Yes, it was the last day of school,
- 1:02Speaker 3: so yeah, you know, like today was fast and furious.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Kids are what six and eight, so they're going to
- 1:11Speaker 2: first in third grade.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Which I feel like, Yeah, crazy, isn't it?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah? It is.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And then Peyton is crushing it. She's not crushing enough
- 1:21Speaker 3: that I can be a stay at home dad, you know,
- 1:22Speaker 3: knock on wood soon.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Right, that's a dream, buddy, that's a dream for both
- 1:25Speaker 1: of us. I'm into that one too. So yeah, well,
- 1:28Speaker 1: not surprised, dude. I've often said you two are two
- 1:31Speaker 1: of my very favorite people from Bachelor Nation, and I
- 1:33Speaker 1: always love to see your success, love seeing on HGTV
- 1:36Speaker 1: and everything you were doing there. And yeah, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you heard the rumor, but they're
- 1:41Speaker 1: gonna do a little makeover the Bachelor Engine. Yeah did
- 1:45Speaker 1: you hear? Because producers called you and said we need
- 1:48Speaker 1: you to do this, because that's what I would have
- 1:49Speaker 1: done as a producer.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I've heard that they're in the talking stages and I
- 1:55Speaker 3: was like, dude, you better have Peyton and I come
- 1:57Speaker 3: on now, that's like an honest, perfect thing.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I feel like I'm talking to a good host of
- 2:02Speaker 2: that show right now.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So that thank you, buddy. Yeah, well, you know what
- 2:06Speaker 1: now that some some synergy has changed around Bache Nation.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Maybe I would have a chance, you know, but back
- 2:13Speaker 1: in the day, I would have gotten the tombstone, I'm
- 2:14Speaker 1: sure for the powers that be. But now now we
- 2:17Speaker 1: can get back in. So if just to make it clear,
- 2:20Speaker 1: if HGTV makes the right choice and calls you, you're in.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I would love to be in on that show. I mean,
- 2:26Speaker 2: here you go.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, decade plus an AHGTV and Bacher stuff.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Come on. I mean if Peyton, I'd be a perfect fit.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Oh you really would, man, I mean, I don't think
- 2:36Speaker 1: there's a better one out there. So all right, so
- 2:38Speaker 1: we're going to take it back right back the twenty ten,
- 2:42Speaker 1: right Ali Fedotowski season. You're you're one of the last
- 2:46Speaker 1: guys standing and I remember you know, you were a
- 2:49Speaker 1: young guy your first time on TV. Good looking dude,
- 2:53Speaker 1: got the kind of awesome East Coast accent, which was
- 2:56Speaker 1: I've always found a very endearing just in general. But
- 2:59Speaker 1: you know, with you, you just had such a good
- 3:00Speaker 1: nature about you and got along great with the other guys.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You know, you were never a source of any other
- 3:05Speaker 1: drama or anything like that, but you were definitely someone
- 3:08Speaker 1: who stood up for themselves and was you know, you
- 3:10Speaker 1: did us proud. You did us proud at that point,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but you ended up being the runner up on that season, right,
- 3:16Speaker 1: And as I recall, so it came down to you
- 3:19Speaker 1: and was it you and Roberto?
- 3:20Speaker 2: Right that it came to Roberto and talked to him
- 3:24Speaker 2: the other day.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Did he really? So? I was trying to get him
- 3:27Speaker 1: on the horn because I haven't talked to him a
- 3:28Speaker 1: couple of years.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I was trying to He's reclusive, man. He is a
- 3:32Speaker 3: fast watch. He's like, there's sightings of home every now
- 3:34Speaker 3: and again.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Is he real? Is he real? We don't know. It's
- 3:37Speaker 1: not behind the trees.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, like fifteen years ago.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Have you guys gotten together at all? Have you guys
- 3:43Speaker 1: got together at all? Was like hangout or no?
- 3:45Speaker 2: He came to my wedding.
- 3:46Speaker 1: That's awesome. That's the last time you saw him. That
- 3:48Speaker 1: was what thirteen how many years ago? Was that?
- 3:50Speaker 2: Man?
- 3:50Speaker 3: So we got married sink of the mile and this
- 3:53Speaker 3: is we got married twenty twelve.
- 3:55Speaker 2: So we've just had a thirteenth year.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Thirteenth years, hey man, that's always a best right, you
- 4:01Speaker 1: get past the seven year at your golden that's what
- 4:03Speaker 1: they say, not a gold not a golden bachelor, but
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know you're golden just the same, not yet, yeah, exactly,
- 4:10Speaker 1: So all right, so you get done with the show, right,
- 4:13Speaker 1: And I've got to believe just because the nature of
- 4:16Speaker 1: things at that time, that they had to have asked
- 4:20Speaker 1: you to be the next bachelor. Did they come to you,
- 4:23Speaker 1: did they court you for it?
- 4:25Speaker 3: They flew me out to a angels in a Red
- 4:28Speaker 3: Sox game in Anaheim. It was the coolest experience ever.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Like I took a limo and like, I don't think
- 4:35Speaker 3: I ever been at long before. I was like, I'm like,
- 4:37Speaker 3: come on, like let's do this. Like they had good
- 4:40Speaker 3: seats at a game, because usually if I go to Fenway,
- 4:42Speaker 3: like when I was younger, like you know, I was
- 4:44Speaker 3: out in the bleachers and the nosebreed, you know, Like,
- 4:46Speaker 3: so I had good seats and uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 2: They asked and.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And and did you say no? Or was it one
- 4:54Speaker 1: of those things where you were like, I'm open to it?
- 4:56Speaker 1: And then they ended up because I know a lot
- 4:58Speaker 1: of times, like I mean, I always heard the story
- 4:59Speaker 1: because I was the first reject so to speak, that
- 5:02Speaker 1: went on to be the bachelor, right, and I had
- 5:04Speaker 1: always heard that they talked to like three or four people,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and uh, I remember. I remember when they first came
- 5:09Speaker 1: to me. I actually said no, and uh they were
- 5:12Speaker 1: like why. I'm like, because I'm a lovable loser man
- 5:13Speaker 1: and you probably had the same problem, right, I'm the
- 5:15Speaker 1: level of loser. I can't do anything wrong. Everyone thinks
- 5:17Speaker 1: I should have won the thing, and I you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: so it was like, why would I go on and
- 5:21Speaker 1: risk being a jerk picking the wrong person? Like it's
- 5:23Speaker 1: the fear, you know, did you go through that kind
- 5:25Speaker 1: of feeling? Yeah, the pressure?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because they asked me.
- 5:27Speaker 3: But I was like him and the hung I was
- 5:29Speaker 3: thinking about it, and I was like, well the thing
- 5:33Speaker 3: that I got caught up on, maybe you were the
- 5:34Speaker 3: same way. It's like it's one thing about me being
- 5:36Speaker 3: on it, you know, like if you want to trash me,
- 5:39Speaker 3: say stuff about me, do whatever, whatever, you know, Like
- 5:42Speaker 3: I signed up for it, literally signed up for it, legit.
- 5:45Speaker 3: And then you know, when I was in the bachelorette,
- 5:47Speaker 3: the same thing. People were like, say stuff about you online,
- 5:50Speaker 3: you know, which hey come to the territory. Yeah, but
- 5:53Speaker 3: like they said stuff about like my brother, my dad
- 5:55Speaker 3: and sant like that.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I said, you know.
- 5:57Speaker 3: What, if I go on the Bachelor, I'm signing the
- 6:00Speaker 3: whole family up, you know, like they're not getting any
- 6:02Speaker 3: money for it.
- 6:02Speaker 2: They're not getting anything for it, so.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I'm just I'm putting them out there and like, yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 3: my brothers are they don't want the limelight. You know
- 6:11Speaker 3: that my dad didn't want it, and I know that
- 6:14Speaker 3: they'd use my mom's story again, and yeah, I was like,
- 6:18Speaker 3: you know, what is it worth it? But I mean
- 6:22Speaker 3: I took the chance to go in the bacherette because
- 6:24Speaker 3: I was like, you know what, I'm open for finding
- 6:26Speaker 3: somebody in a weird way because it hasn't worked at
- 6:27Speaker 3: this point. And I would never I would never change
- 6:30Speaker 3: that experience. Loved that experience. Death made awesome friends. Ali
- 6:35Speaker 3: was great, you know, she was sweet to me the
- 6:36Speaker 3: whole time. But then that next step when you're like
- 6:41Speaker 3: in the spotlight and your family's in the spotlight, I
- 6:43Speaker 3: was like, yeah, that might be a bridge too far.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You know, well, you know it is. It is a lot.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You're absolutely right, it's a lot, no question, I will
- 6:51Speaker 1: say this. You know, I had said no for a
- 6:54Speaker 1: lot of the same reasons at first, and in retrospect,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'm so glad that but but again I was before
- 7:00Speaker 1: social media too, so you were on the front end
- 7:03Speaker 1: of social media when you were doing it. Just people
- 7:06Speaker 1: were savage, right, so even I mean people just sit
- 7:09Speaker 1: there and say the meanest things. None of it's true, right,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and we didn't have that. So at the time when
- 7:14Speaker 1: I was doing it, I even remember I went to
- 7:16Speaker 1: my dad and I was like, you know, I want
- 7:18Speaker 1: to do you proud and I don't want to embarrass
- 7:19Speaker 1: our family. Are you okay with this cause I won't
- 7:21Speaker 1: do it if you if you don't want me to
- 7:22Speaker 1: do it, right, And my dad was like, you know what, buddy,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you do it. Well, I'll tell you. He passed away
- 7:27Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. And the fact that I have
- 7:30Speaker 1: him on video now talking in my grand and my kids,
- 7:34Speaker 1: his grandkids can see it and go, look how young
- 7:36Speaker 1: Papa was and stuff like that. It's awesome for me.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So that's the That's the big the biggest positive, right
- 7:43Speaker 1: that in the fact they made a bunch of great
- 7:44Speaker 1: friends and I'm still friends with a lot of the
- 7:45Speaker 1: girls too and stuff. But so yeah, so you you
- 7:48Speaker 1: say no to that, they go on to who is
- 7:51Speaker 1: the who was the bachelor? Who do they end up
- 7:53Speaker 1: making the best.
- 7:53Speaker 2: The first guy from Austin.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah, so Brad comes on really takes the heat
- 8:02Speaker 1: off of you because he puts so much of it
- 8:03Speaker 1: on himself. He's such a nice guy. But man, dude,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I felt so bad for him. All right, but you
- 8:09Speaker 1: didn't find love on the Bachelor att right, And so
- 8:11Speaker 1: what a crazy twist that you end up meeting your
- 8:15Speaker 1: wife who was on I mean, did they ask you
- 8:18Speaker 1: to be on Bachelor Pat? Did they ask you to
- 8:20Speaker 1: do that one too?
- 8:21Speaker 3: Okay, no, because when they were they were they started
- 8:24Speaker 3: teaching taping Bachelor Pad, like right near the end of Bachelor.
- 8:28Speaker 3: So I was still on a Bachelor when they started
- 8:29Speaker 3: taping Bascher Pad. Yeah, so thankfully I wasn't on that.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And I say thankfully because one of my best friends
- 8:37Speaker 3: on the show, Jesse Beck, was on Bachelor Pad and
- 8:41Speaker 3: that was like the weird competition. You know, they hadn't
- 8:43Speaker 3: figured it out that, you know, how to do it
- 8:46Speaker 3: right at that point, and his partner was Peyton, and
- 8:50Speaker 3: he was like Chris, Chris. I was talking to this
- 8:53Speaker 3: Peyton girl and telling her how great you be together.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:57Speaker 3: And fast forward like just a few weeks after I
- 9:02Speaker 3: said no to the Bachelor. Thomas were at an event
- 9:05Speaker 3: together in North Carolina, the Jimmy ve Golf Classic.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Oh my god, I love that one.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it was so much fun. So Jesse's like, oh,
- 9:13Speaker 3: I have a friend. I want to invite her over.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I was like, all right, Like who is it. He's
- 9:17Speaker 3: like this girl Peyton, She's awesome. She was on the
- 9:19Speaker 3: path with me. I was like, where does she live?
- 9:21Speaker 3: He's like Dallas. I'm like, Jesse, you need to be
- 9:24Speaker 3: better at geography because Dallas is not near North Carolina.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Like they're far apart.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 3: He called her anyway and like, no, jog Like. She
- 9:35Speaker 3: was home in Northeast Tennessee at the time, which was
- 9:38Speaker 3: like an hour.
- 9:39Speaker 2: From where we were.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 9:41Speaker 3: He was home for the weekend. So she came over
- 9:43Speaker 3: met us and like literally, I was like, that's the one.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Nine months later, nine months later, I proposed her.
- 9:50Speaker 1: That's so badass. I love that. Yeah, And you two
- 10:03Speaker 1: really are like you two are one of those couples that, look,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I get it all. You know, whenever you live with
- 10:07Speaker 1: someone and have a family with someone and everything else,
- 10:10Speaker 1: you're gonna have your moments, right, But the two of
- 10:12Speaker 1: you always seemed just wired so nicely together. And I've
- 10:15Speaker 1: always thought that since the day I met you guys.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And it's one of those things that it's like you
- 10:19Speaker 1: see when you see it and it's right, and you're like, oh,
- 10:21Speaker 1: that's how it's supposed to be, because I was I
- 10:23Speaker 1: was still looking for my person at that time, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: when we first met, and I remember thinking like, oh, god, dude,
- 10:28Speaker 1: those two are so good together. Maybe you know, maybe
- 10:31Speaker 1: I should do The Bachelor but whatever the time, Bachelor
- 10:33Speaker 1: Paradise or whatever they were doing at that point. But
- 10:35Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not going to be the first
- 10:36Speaker 1: guy from the Bachelor, like the dude who handed out
- 10:39Speaker 1: the flowers. Yeah, I save that. I think they had.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I think they ended up having. Uh didn't Jake Pavelka
- 10:45Speaker 1: do it? One of the guys did it? I can't
- 10:47Speaker 1: remember who it was, or you know he did Bachelor
- 10:49Speaker 1: pad Nick ye, nick Viel did that yeah? Or the
- 10:53Speaker 1: Paradise Yeah he was. He had done it all at
- 10:55Speaker 1: that point, I think. But yeah, So so then you
- 10:58Speaker 1: guys get you guys get together, and then you're together
- 11:01Speaker 1: for a little bit and then the HGTV comes calling, right,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and then that that kind of picked up not too
- 11:06Speaker 1: long thereafter.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:07Speaker 3: So we had just started dating Peyton and I and
- 11:10Speaker 3: I remember I was like, Peyton, I got these emails
- 11:13Speaker 3: from this d Y and HGTV. I was like, I
- 11:17Speaker 3: was like, what do you think She's like?
- 11:17Speaker 2: Google them?
- 11:18Speaker 3: So I google this guy and like, I was like, wow,
- 11:20Speaker 3: he actually does work for HGTV, like because you know,
- 11:23Speaker 3: like you get like all these emails from people like
- 11:25Speaker 3: after the show, like hey, do you want to do this?
- 11:27Speaker 2: I'm like that seems fake to me.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I'm not going to do it right, and it all
- 11:30Speaker 1: seems too good to be true. Yeah right.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I'm like, oh yeah, because I'm a landscape you on
- 11:34Speaker 3: me on TV, right, I don't believe that.
- 11:37Speaker 2: So I emailed them back.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, you know what, just so happens that
- 11:41Speaker 3: I'm actually going to be in Tennessee, which is where
- 11:43Speaker 3: the HGTV offices are for Christmas, to visit my girlfriend
- 11:48Speaker 3: and meet her family for the first time, and they're like,
- 11:51Speaker 3: can you come in for an interview?
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah? Sure.
- 11:54Speaker 3: So I remember Peyton dropped me off in Knoxville at
- 11:59Speaker 3: the h TV studio and she went to school in
- 12:02Speaker 3: Knoxville University of Tennessee. So we were like, oh, perfect,
- 12:05Speaker 3: We'll cruise around, see her school, get a T shirt,
- 12:08Speaker 3: you know, the whole nine yards, and then go to
- 12:10Speaker 3: her parents' house meet her parents.
- 12:12Speaker 2: He dragged me off, and who do you think you
- 12:15Speaker 2: would meet the first time? Bob? Like, ah, like somebody
- 12:18Speaker 2: in HR I don't know. I sit down.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I start talking to this lady and we talked for
- 12:25Speaker 3: like an hour and we leave and I'm sitting out
- 12:28Speaker 3: there and then she comes outside. She's like, Hey, all
- 12:30Speaker 3: the ladies in the oves want to take a picture.
- 12:31Speaker 3: You want to come in and take a picture.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Like, oh, yeah, of course. So we take a picture
- 12:34Speaker 2: and I'm just laughing and everybody leave and.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Peyton was like, who'd you meet with it? I said, oh,
- 12:39Speaker 3: this lady. I googled her name. She was this CEO
- 12:43Speaker 3: of HGTV and.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Scripts and I was like and Peyton starts laughing.
- 12:47Speaker 3: She's like, if you knew that beforehand, you would have
- 12:49Speaker 3: been terrible in that interview.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's that you think it's like a low level person.
- 12:54Speaker 1: You're like, yeah, like.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, like if he does well, bumping.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Up a level, right, we'll bring him in again, you.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Know, or whatever, And like I'd never done many interviews,
- 13:02Speaker 3: Like I was either a landscape or a teacher. So
- 13:04Speaker 3: it's not like I was like applying to some big
- 13:07Speaker 3: company and do different interviews.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I I would have assumed the same thing. Yeah, totally.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Next to fast forward, they send a film crew to
- 13:15Speaker 3: my yard on the cape to do like a little
- 13:18Speaker 3: walk and talk and do like a little two minute sizzle,
- 13:21Speaker 3: and Pateon was like, I'm getting in on this, so
- 13:24Speaker 3: she like jumped in the video and then they were like,
- 13:27Speaker 3: we would love the two you guys together. She'll do
- 13:29Speaker 3: the design, you do the manual labor, like you know,
- 13:31Speaker 3: the landscaping, and we got our first show going yard.
- 13:35Speaker 3: And I mean, like I always say, the Bachelorette completely
- 13:40Speaker 3: changed my life. It got me a wife and a
- 13:42Speaker 3: TV show ONCTV, and like might not.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Have been the way that those producers wanted it to be,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but it definitely worked out the way that you needed
- 13:49Speaker 1: it to be and you and Peyton needed it to
- 13:51Speaker 1: be in your heart. Yeah now yeah, now you got
- 13:52Speaker 1: two beautiful kids. And I mean, with that being the case, right,
- 13:56Speaker 1: So Peyton went on a show and didn't find love also,
- 13:59Speaker 1: which is how she ended up on pad obviously whose
- 14:01Speaker 1: season was she on? By the way, I can't remember.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Admiral oh Andy Baldwin and who I met a couple
- 14:07Speaker 3: of times, nicest doing the world.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Super nice guy, yeah, super nice guy. Yeah he he
- 14:11Speaker 1: just had a baby.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Runs like however old he is hearing that many miles
- 14:14Speaker 2: for his birthday? Have you seen this?
- 14:16Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, yeah, dude, he's what they call a what
- 14:19Speaker 1: do they call those ultra runner?
- 14:22Speaker 2: Ultra yeah, ultra marathon yea ultra marathon er.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So he'll yeah, I'll never forget. I was reaching out
- 14:27Speaker 1: to him. This is years ago. I was still living
- 14:28Speaker 1: in La at the time, so it was pre twenty fifteen.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I was reaching out to him about something that they
- 14:33Speaker 1: wanted him to do with me, and he was like,
- 14:36Speaker 1: I go, where are you. He's like, I'm in Chile
- 14:39Speaker 1: or something. He's like Honduras or something. He was like
- 14:41Speaker 1: super far away, and he goes, yeah, I just I
- 14:43Speaker 1: just got done running like an ultimate marathon. I think
- 14:47Speaker 1: I was like eating, you know, I was eating pretzel
- 14:48Speaker 1: bites and drinking. Againess, I'm like a taco and yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I have a taco in one hand a pizza in
- 14:53Speaker 1: the other. I'm like, Okay, I can see why we
- 14:55Speaker 1: probably aren't going to get the hang anytime soon. But yeah,
- 14:59Speaker 1: he's a super nice man. I mean, I've been hard
- 15:01Speaker 1: pressed to find too many people that I haven't loved
- 15:04Speaker 1: once I got to know them from the franchise myself too.
- 15:06Speaker 1: But but yeah, so all right, let's talk about this.
- 15:09Speaker 1: You got your you got your family business, you got
- 15:12Speaker 1: your HGTV business, you've got your landscaping business, You've got
- 15:17Speaker 1: your family, and then I just found out you also
- 15:20Speaker 1: ran for political office. Tell me about this.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so I know it's stupid to me, but so.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Before you say another word, I gotta tell you this.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I think about it all the time, only because I'm like,
- 15:32Speaker 1: I equally love hate all the parties, Like I'm not
- 15:36Speaker 1: a I don't subscribe to one or the others. I'm like,
- 15:37Speaker 1: maybe I could be the great uniter, you know.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I still remember it was like the twenty teens and
- 15:42Speaker 3: our town was trying to get a community center and
- 15:44Speaker 3: it got voted down and there was just nobody young
- 15:48Speaker 3: on the board and I was just like, listen, like
- 15:52Speaker 3: someone's going to do something. And then instead of complaining,
- 15:54Speaker 3: I was like, you know what, I'm going to run,
- 15:57Speaker 3: So I ran for the select board in our town.
- 15:59Speaker 2: It comes humble brag.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I won by the largest margin and by and I
- 16:04Speaker 3: got the most votes in town history.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I love yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 3: And uh so I just got reelected for my third term.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I'm the chairman of the Dentist select Board and I
- 16:16Speaker 3: love it.
- 16:16Speaker 2: And I'm still I'm not that young anymore. I'm still
- 16:19Speaker 2: the youngest on the board.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And as someone who was born and raised in this town,
- 16:23Speaker 3: I have young kids who go to the public schools
- 16:24Speaker 3: in town. Like, yeah, small business. My one of my
- 16:28Speaker 3: brothers is a police officer in town. Like, we're ingrained
- 16:30Speaker 3: in this town. Yeah, and like you gotta, you gotta.
- 16:35Speaker 3: You can't just complain, you gotta step up and do something.
- 16:37Speaker 3: So I try to get people to get out vote.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I try to help push family oriented things, help with housing,
- 16:42Speaker 3: you know, all that kind of stuff. And uh yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 3: I get paid two thousand dollars wait for it a year,
- 16:50Speaker 3: so no big deal.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Right, right, right, You're not You're not to get rich though, right,
- 16:54Speaker 1: I mean, I get that.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I do it because it helps out and I love it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I love it.
- 16:58Speaker 1: No, I love that, dude. You're so good. And I
- 17:00Speaker 1: bet people find you so refreshing, right because you're such
- 17:04Speaker 1: a good dude and you never looked down your nose
- 17:07Speaker 1: at anybody. And it's like, you know, you're in this
- 17:09Speaker 1: great situation in life, but it's like you're someone who
- 17:13Speaker 1: can help, right because you actually do have young kids.
- 17:15Speaker 1: And it's like a lot of those people forget what
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's like to have young kids. They just don't want
- 17:18Speaker 1: to pay anything else in taxes, right, so they don't
- 17:20Speaker 1: want to do anything. Yeah, right, I get it. I
- 17:22Speaker 1: get it.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate that because, like sometimes it is a
- 17:25Speaker 3: thankless job, but you know, I love doing it, and
- 17:31Speaker 3: everyone in the town is so much fun to work
- 17:32Speaker 3: with and work for, and you know, and you go
- 17:34Speaker 3: someplace like hey, Chris, thank you for doing that, or
- 17:36Speaker 3: hey can you help me get a sidewalk?
- 17:38Speaker 2: Or can you sure? Sure?
- 17:39Speaker 1: Well I'm sure too, Like my dad was a policeman
- 17:42Speaker 1: in my hometown, so I know I know that kind
- 17:44Speaker 1: of thing too with your brother. So it's like everybody
- 17:48Speaker 1: loves Slash hates the cops, right, They love the cops
- 17:51Speaker 1: if they need them and they need their help. They
- 17:53Speaker 1: hate the cops they get pulled over for speeding, So
- 17:55Speaker 1: it's like one of those things, right, And I remember
- 17:57Speaker 1: usus I always say to my dad, I was like,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I was like, man, it must be so hard to
- 18:00Speaker 1: be a copies, Like it's the most rewarding and most
- 18:04Speaker 1: what do they say, the most rewarding and taxing job
- 18:06Speaker 1: all at the same time, because you know, you're never
- 18:08Speaker 1: making everybody happy. But at the end of the day,
- 18:10Speaker 1: it's like you get to know that community in such
- 18:12Speaker 1: an intimate way. And I'm sure that's that's got to
- 18:15Speaker 1: be something for you too, Like you know, your brother's there,
- 18:17Speaker 1: your family's there. You want everybody to have the things
- 18:20Speaker 1: that they need, you know, and you're not. Your family's
- 18:23Speaker 1: no different than anybody else's, right, It's just it's just
- 18:24Speaker 1: we got to figure out how to make everybody happy.
- 18:26Speaker 3: All about family, all about community. That's you know, that's
- 18:29Speaker 3: why you do stuff, right.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I love it.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You guys get down to Tennessee much to see Peyton's family.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yep, we go a couple times a year. We actually
- 18:37Speaker 2: went in April to the kids of Dollywood.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Want to go there too? Is it great?
- 18:44Speaker 2: It's great? You know, like we've been to Disneyland and like,
- 18:46Speaker 2: you know, you're strict on the rides Dollywood.
- 18:49Speaker 3: They're like, my son's six, They're like how tall is
- 18:51Speaker 3: I'm like, you know whatever, Like you can go with
- 18:53Speaker 3: all the rides.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't even want to go into all
- 18:55Speaker 2: the rides, you know.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's funny that you say that. So the
- 18:58Speaker 1: reason we haven't gone. We went to doney World when
- 19:00Speaker 1: my when my oldest was four, and it was like
- 19:03Speaker 1: all we did was walk around and he was bored,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like he did not love it. So we were like,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna wait a while, right and so
- 19:09Speaker 1: or Disneyland, we went out in California where Canyon, his
- 19:11Speaker 1: parents are from, and recently we even said we're like, well,
- 19:14Speaker 1: you know, our six year old could probably ride most
- 19:15Speaker 1: of the rides now maybe still probably not a lot
- 19:17Speaker 1: of them, but four year old is not getting on anything.
- 19:19Speaker 1: So we're not going to go until they could both
- 19:21Speaker 1: do it. Dollywood might be the answer. I like that.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Idea's great. Man, there's way more rise than I thought
- 19:26Speaker 3: I thought. Wou'd be like to the rides. There's a
- 19:28Speaker 3: ton of stuff there.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I was just down. So we invested in a property
- 19:34Speaker 1: down on Highway eleven, and uh that runs through Knoxville.
- 19:39Speaker 1: It's like this road and and it's kind of a
- 19:42Speaker 1: long story, but anyway, we uh and so it's I
- 19:45Speaker 1: guess it's like an hour away from Dollywood. And my
- 19:47Speaker 1: in laws uh spent a lot of time down there
- 19:49Speaker 1: for their and they were like, well, next time we're
- 19:51Speaker 1: we're going down, we got to go to Dollywood. Like
- 19:53Speaker 1: we're in. We're totally in. You know, I want to
- 19:55Speaker 1: do it at big times. So I will call you
- 19:57Speaker 1: guys when we're going if it's.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Only an hour, I recommended that. Yeah, great for the
- 20:00Speaker 2: whole family.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Yeah, what's on the horizon, Like what's going on with you? Guys?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Like you if you were to say to me right now, okay, Bob,
- 20:06Speaker 1: here's our next twelve months in a nutshell? Like what
- 20:08Speaker 1: are we working at? What are we looking at?
- 20:10Speaker 2: Great question?
- 20:11Speaker 3: So you know, obviously every day I go to work
- 20:14Speaker 3: with one of my brothers, one of my brothers, Eric,
- 20:17Speaker 3: my middle brother and I we landscape together, which is fun.
- 20:20Speaker 3: My youngest brother and I Mark, we had the lands
- 20:23Speaker 3: we had the oyster company together, you know, with our wives.
- 20:27Speaker 2: We do that and that's I mean, that's so much
- 20:29Speaker 2: fun because we.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Drive out in a four wheel drive truck during low
- 20:34Speaker 3: tide sort the oysters. My daughter who is eight going
- 20:38Speaker 3: on twenty eight. I mean, she can sort oysters. She's
- 20:41Speaker 3: a hard worker, so they're out there helping out. So
- 20:45Speaker 3: I love that aspect of my life. Still doing the slecktboard,
- 20:50Speaker 3: I may throw my hat into the next level soon enough,
- 20:54Speaker 3: running for some a bigger office liketle.
- 20:56Speaker 1: What would that next level be, like, maybe mayor.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Unfortunately we don't have a Cape cod so okay, if
- 21:03Speaker 3: it was, I'd be like, yeah, I'm.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Just gonna say maybe maybe you'll be the first mayor.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, And then, uh, you know, Peyton is just
- 21:12Speaker 3: doing She's an interior designer. You know, if you're not
- 21:15Speaker 3: born on the Cape, you're called a wash ashore. Okay,
- 21:19Speaker 3: So she calls her company wash the Shore Home, which
- 21:21Speaker 3: is incredible. She always joked with I'm like, yeah, baby,
- 21:25Speaker 3: you're just a wash the shore. Come on, I've been
- 21:27Speaker 3: here for like six years. I'm like, it doesn't matter,
- 21:29Speaker 3: You're still a washing it still washing. He embraced it,
- 21:32Speaker 3: she loves it. She calls it washed the Shore Home.
- 21:35Speaker 3: So she is absolutely doing great with that, and I'm
- 21:37Speaker 3: so couldn't be more proud of her and the kids.
- 21:40Speaker 2: And uh so.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Now I coach my kids teams, whether it be soccer
- 21:44Speaker 3: or ice hockey.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Hockey's big man. We got my boy on skates this
- 21:48Speaker 1: past year, really, yeah, got him on skates. Now. He's
- 21:52Speaker 1: playing flag football right now. Seems to really enjoy it.
- 21:55Speaker 1: But his attention span is such that it's like, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: if he's not getting the ball six.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Same age as my son, so yeah, same thing, Like
- 22:02Speaker 3: if they don't have it, they're like picking daisies in
- 22:04Speaker 3: the corner.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Right, Oh totally yeah, yeah, not even paying attention. It's crazy. Yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 1: well let me ask you one more thing. So with
- 22:10Speaker 1: time on your side, right, I mean obviously Bachelor was
- 22:12Speaker 1: years ago for you. Bachelor it was years ago for you,
- 22:14Speaker 1: twenty ten, So what is that fifteen years now? Crazy
- 22:17Speaker 1: to think? Right? I mean for me it's twenty three,
- 22:19Speaker 1: twenty two. Isn't that nuts?
- 22:21Speaker 2: Which is weird because we're both what thirty four years old?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Thirty four years old? How do we do that at
- 22:25Speaker 1: such a young age?
- 22:27Speaker 2: What are they thinking? Asking so young?
- 22:39Speaker 1: With that as your as your backdrop, right, how do
- 22:42Speaker 1: you feel about, like, you know, obviously, the way your
- 22:44Speaker 1: life is turned out. I know you well enough as
- 22:46Speaker 1: a guy that you're gonna say it is gret because
- 22:48Speaker 1: the way it turned out. But because I say that
- 22:49Speaker 1: same answer all the time. Yeah, but would you have
- 22:51Speaker 1: done anything different on the show? Would you have taken
- 22:54Speaker 1: different you know, steps after the show or is it
- 22:57Speaker 1: just the way it is today? Is the way it is?
- 22:59Speaker 1: Today's door style, Like you know, you know it's the
- 23:02Speaker 1: reason because of the choices you made. The butterfly fact,
- 23:04Speaker 1: like where are you at with that?
- 23:05Speaker 3: I mean that's a great question because you know you
- 23:07Speaker 3: look back at it and like it's it's still a
- 23:10Speaker 3: blur to me. The fact that like I remember getting
- 23:13Speaker 3: the call the first time, like Chris, you're leaving in
- 23:15Speaker 3: five days for LA and you can't tell anybody, And
- 23:20Speaker 3: like I just told my two brothers and my dad
- 23:22Speaker 3: like hey, what do I do? And they're like attack
- 23:25Speaker 3: your bad You're leaving it in four days? Like just
- 23:28Speaker 3: take that, you know, like just jump go for Iteah
- 23:30Speaker 3: and all my friends thinking I just they couldn't tell
- 23:34Speaker 3: them where's Chris?
- 23:35Speaker 2: I can't tell you?
- 23:38Speaker 3: But that being said, I mean, honestly, looking back, I
- 23:43Speaker 3: wasn't in a great place because my mom had passed
- 23:45Speaker 3: away like a year before. I was living in home
- 23:47Speaker 3: my dad, which was the right thing to do at
- 23:49Speaker 3: the time, but I was kind of just you know,
- 23:52Speaker 3: spinning my wheels. I didn't really know what that next
- 23:55Speaker 3: stuff was going to be in my life, and I
- 23:56Speaker 3: didn't have that perfect someone to help me help guide
- 23:59Speaker 3: me through that. So if I hadn't done that, like
- 24:02Speaker 3: I don't know what would have happened or where what
- 24:04Speaker 3: I would be doing right now, you know. So thankfully
- 24:07Speaker 3: I did that, and like, uh went on that show
- 24:10Speaker 3: and made some amazing friends who I still talk to
- 24:13Speaker 3: this dage, just like you said, and like even people
- 24:16Speaker 3: have not my season.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Who I see and talk to are awesome.
- 24:18Speaker 3: It's a it's like going to a small college and
- 24:22Speaker 3: like even if you didn't know that person, you start
- 24:23Speaker 3: talking to me, like it's like a college buddy right there.
- 24:27Speaker 2: So it was the best move I ever made.
- 24:29Speaker 3: And uh, yeah, got a wife show kids like you
- 24:34Speaker 3: name it.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Man.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I mean I'm the poster shop. I'm the poster shop
- 24:37Speaker 3: for why you should do the batcherette. You know what
- 24:40Speaker 3: could happen? You could like if you go on and
- 24:43Speaker 3: don't have like weird alter your motives. If you just
- 24:45Speaker 3: go on and be yourself, have fun with it, have
- 24:48Speaker 3: no preconceived notions, and uh just say stay true to
- 24:53Speaker 3: who you are and who your family you know, thinks
- 24:56Speaker 3: you are. Like put your best foot forward and like
- 24:58Speaker 3: can you come off like you no regrets?
- 25:00Speaker 1: I mean, intentions are everything, dude. I know they always
- 25:03Speaker 1: say the road to Hell's pay with good intentions, but
- 25:05Speaker 1: I always say, intentions are everything. Like, you know, the
- 25:08Speaker 1: one thing about a camera is it can see if
- 25:09Speaker 1: you're faking it, right, I mean, it's not like we're
- 25:12Speaker 1: not like we're you know, gifted, you know, like Anthony
- 25:14Speaker 1: Hopkins style actors on that show. Right, So if you're
- 25:17Speaker 1: an appole, people are going to realize you're an as whole,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And if you're a good
- 25:21Speaker 1: guy and you're not trying to screw people over and
- 25:23Speaker 1: you're just trying to be a nice person, they see
- 25:25Speaker 1: that too, you know, And I think I think you're
- 25:28Speaker 1: absolutely right, Like you are the poster child for going
- 25:32Speaker 1: on that show. And I feel like, you know, for me,
- 25:34Speaker 1: it's like I always love seeing people that I know
- 25:37Speaker 1: and like having great things happen to them. Like I'm
- 25:41Speaker 1: always like, oh, yes, you know, and I remember seeing
- 25:43Speaker 1: that article about you and Peyton. I think that we
- 25:44Speaker 1: had talked not too long there after, and I was
- 25:47Speaker 1: just like, dude, this is amazing. You know, I was
- 25:50Speaker 1: so excited for you, but I'm still excited for you.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I love everything that you're doing. I mean, eight year
- 25:56Speaker 1: old and a six year old. Are they boy and
- 25:58Speaker 1: girl or both boys or both girls?
- 26:00Speaker 2: So eight year old Lelah six year old Hayes.
- 26:03Speaker 3: I mean, incredible, my son Hayes that got back, you know,
- 26:06Speaker 3: to get those awards for kindergarten.
- 26:08Speaker 2: He got Athlete of the Class. I was like, what,
- 26:12Speaker 2: that's awesome.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I love it. Yes, So would you ever if if
- 26:18Speaker 1: they came to you and they were like, Daddy, you know,
- 26:20Speaker 1: I got asked to be on the Beast Route, you know,
- 26:22Speaker 1: when they're when your daughters, you know, in her twenties,
- 26:25Speaker 1: let's say early twenties, would you encourage that, knowing what
- 26:28Speaker 1: you know now? Or I mean, if Hayes came to
- 26:30Speaker 1: you and was like, Daddy, I want to be on
- 26:31Speaker 1: the show, you know, would you encourage that or would
- 26:33Speaker 1: you be like, I don't know, guys, I mean, I
- 26:36Speaker 1: feel I feel I'll answer what I think you would say,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I think you would say exactly what you just said.
- 26:41Speaker 1: You know, if you can remain true to yourself, if
- 26:43Speaker 1: you can, you know, make a decisions, if you understand
- 26:46Speaker 1: that you're reflective of your family while you're on that
- 26:48Speaker 1: show and you think about it, then by all means,
- 26:50Speaker 1: go for it.
- 26:51Speaker 3: The fact that both their parents were on different seasons
- 26:54Speaker 3: and their mom was on two different shows, and then
- 26:58Speaker 3: we then we were on like over many episodes of
- 27:01Speaker 3: HGTV shows afterwards. I mean, there's no way I would
- 27:04Speaker 3: I could say no. I'd have to like say yes,
- 27:07Speaker 3: but then yes, exactly what you said. If you're going
- 27:09Speaker 3: to go on, be true to yourself, be true to
- 27:11Speaker 3: the family, be true to your last name, because that's
- 27:13Speaker 3: the only one you've got, and and.
- 27:16Speaker 2: You know, just make the right decisions all the time.
- 27:19Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, have fun like
- 27:21Speaker 3: that show, and like, if you're having fun on that
- 27:25Speaker 3: show and you're being yourself, then those are the people
- 27:27Speaker 3: that shine even this day. Like if you're watching it,
- 27:29Speaker 3: you can see the people that are having fun and
- 27:32Speaker 3: aren't trying to think about how they can get like
- 27:34Speaker 3: followers or how they can spend it to the next thing.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Like I think you want deal after this.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Like I didn't go on to thinking like oh how
- 27:43Speaker 3: do I get on at now?
- 27:45Speaker 2: Just be yourself and have fun with it.
- 27:46Speaker 3: And then like then they see it and they're like oh,

- 27:50Speaker 3: that show and being in front of cameras and doing
- 27:53Speaker 3: five billion hours of one on one interviews is the
- 27:56Speaker 3: best training you can get for being on TV. I

- 28:18Speaker 1: when you're on a show like you know, like on
- 28:21Speaker 1: your show like Going Yard, you were definitely always that.
- 28:23Speaker 1: You know, you're always perky and ready to go because
- 28:25Speaker 1: you're you know, you're doing your show. I mean you're right, Yeah,
- 28:28Speaker 1: you people saw you at your worst and your best,
- 28:30Speaker 1: you know, from from doing the show like that, from
- 28:32Speaker 1: all the all the camera time. There's no question, Well man,
- 28:35Speaker 1: I'm glad America saw you for who you are. They
- 28:37Speaker 1: were right by the way, you are exactly who you are,
- 28:40Speaker 1: which is just a great guy. Love that you're a
- 28:42Speaker 1: family man, put in your family first, and you know
- 28:45Speaker 1: whatever comes along, you're not. You're You've got the great
- 28:47Speaker 1: power of yes right. You're willing to give it a
- 28:49Speaker 1: shot if it makes sense, but you know you're not
- 28:51Speaker 1: going to sacrifice your values to do it. And I
- 28:53Speaker 1: love you for that, bro, I really do.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I can't thank you enough for having me on man
- 28:57Speaker 3: thinking of me and so proud of you doing all
