Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome into another edition of The check Odaily. It's Andrew
- 0:14Speaker 2: Decheco here, Eagles beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com, and
- 0:18Speaker 2: there's some injury news here as it pertains to the
- 0:21Speaker 2: Eagles rookie safety Drew mccuba. As reported by NFL Network
- 0:26Speaker 2: and then confirmed by Nick Siriani during his three p
- 0:30Speaker 2: fifteen post game availability, Drew mccuba suffered a fractured ankle.
- 0:36Speaker 2: So he's going to have surgery and his timetable is undetermined,
- 0:41Speaker 2: but he'll be headed to injured reserve and they kind
- 0:44Speaker 2: of left the window open for return possibility, though they
- 0:49Speaker 2: would have to be a deep postseason run and a
- 0:51Speaker 2: lot of factors would have to play into it. But
- 0:54Speaker 2: at least the way that I'm viewing it right now,
- 0:56Speaker 2: it seems to be a season ender. But we'll have
- 0:59Speaker 2: to wait and see how everything plays out. I think
- 1:02Speaker 2: there's still a little bit that has yet to be determined.
- 1:04Speaker 2: But let's talk a little bit about Drew mccooba and
- 1:07Speaker 2: the rookie season that he had, because I thought that
- 1:10Speaker 2: early on you can make a case that you could
- 1:15Speaker 2: see the rookie tendencies reveal themselves. There were some blown coverages,
- 1:19Speaker 2: there were some mistackles. I can think of the mistackle
- 1:22Speaker 2: against Wandel Robinson in the first Giants matchup, and maybe
- 1:27Speaker 2: a couple in the Chiefs game.
- 1:29Speaker 1: They fled.
- 1:29Speaker 2: They surfaced throughout the season, but I thought that he
- 1:33Speaker 2: really started to tighten things up. And I think maybe
- 1:35Speaker 2: it was a month ago Eagles defensive coordinator of Vic
- 1:39Speaker 2: Vangaeo said he would grade out his season to be
- 1:42Speaker 2: a little bit uneven.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Well, I think in.
- 1:44Speaker 2: The past few weeks he's really starting to come into
- 1:48Speaker 2: his own and it's a shame that his rookie season
- 1:52Speaker 2: ends in the way that it did because he was
- 1:55Speaker 2: really doing some good things.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You could see him growing.
- 1:57Speaker 2: More confident in the role he was playing off with
- 2:00Speaker 2: Read Blank and Ship Well and you don't you don't
- 2:04Speaker 2: hear his name called often, so that's always a good
- 2:07Speaker 2: thing as a safety. Two interceptions on the season, And
- 2:11Speaker 2: I can remember talking to Kobe Dean outside of his
- 2:13Speaker 2: locker after the Lions win and when he was talking
- 2:18Speaker 2: about physicality and the tone setter mentality that he brings
- 2:22Speaker 2: and the physical nature of the Eagles defense and how
- 2:25Speaker 2: they've all sort of taken on that personality and mentality.
- 2:30Speaker 2: He said, Now you got Kuba coming down, And if
- 2:32Speaker 2: you heard some of the licks that he was putting
- 2:34Speaker 2: on those running backs, he said, man, he was hitting him.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So I think that he was really starting to emerge
- 2:43Speaker 2: a little bit, if you will. And it wasn't a
- 2:45Speaker 2: flashy rookie season, but it was certainly one that the
- 2:49Speaker 2: Eagles and I would imagine the fan base should feel
- 2:51Speaker 2: pretty good about the future. And it doesn't sound like
- 2:55Speaker 2: it's an injury where it's going to hinder any sort
- 2:59Speaker 2: of offseason progress or anything like that.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So let's look at the safety position for.
- 3:03Speaker 2: A moment, because that now leaves Sidney Brown and who else.
- 3:09Speaker 2: We'll see about Reid Blankenship this week. He left the
- 3:13Speaker 2: game with a thigh injury did not return, so we'll
- 3:16Speaker 2: learn more. The Eagles have a walkthrough and a practice
- 3:19Speaker 2: this week.
- 3:19Speaker 1: That's all.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Remember it's a shortened week and they're playing on Friday,
- 3:23Speaker 2: three o'clock on Black Friday.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And you have to look at the position right now.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Because you have Sidney Brown, Red Blankenship, who may or
- 3:35Speaker 2: may or may not be able to go, and then
- 3:38Speaker 2: you have Andre sam who's on the practice squad, and
- 3:42Speaker 2: you also have Michael Carter, who played nickel in Dallas
- 3:46Speaker 2: when there were injuries to a Dori Jackson had to
- 3:50Speaker 2: sort of reconfigure the secondary, and then you had Michael
- 3:54Speaker 2: Carter play some some reps. Now there was that pick
- 3:57Speaker 2: play on that Pickens reception later in the game that
- 4:00Speaker 2: I think is a byproduct of not having that chemistry
- 4:03Speaker 2: or continuity. Being a new addition around the trade deadline,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you're still trying to feel things out. He ended up
- 4:09Speaker 2: picking his own teammate in a critical moment. But he
- 4:13Speaker 2: does offer the ability to play safety. He played safety
- 4:16Speaker 2: at Duke, and I would imagine that if Reed Blankenship
- 4:19Speaker 2: can't go, you would see Michael Carter and Sidney Brown
- 4:24Speaker 2: as the starters. But who knows, because there's another wrinkle
- 4:28Speaker 2: to this whole thing. Dori Jackson left the game with
- 4:31Speaker 2: a head injury. He was evaluated for a concussion. We
- 4:34Speaker 2: don't quite know if it was a concussion. Again, we'll
- 4:36Speaker 2: learn more when the injury report comes out to start
- 4:40Speaker 2: the week on Tuesday. But if you don't have a
- 4:44Speaker 2: Dori Jackson, and it's worth noting that that's his second
- 4:49Speaker 2: that would be would be his second concussion of the season. Remember,
- 4:54Speaker 2: he missed the Giants game, the second one with the
- 4:57Speaker 2: concussion after sustaining it in the Minnesota Vikings game. So
- 5:00Speaker 2: if he can't go, if he's not cleared, if it
- 5:03Speaker 2: is in fact a concussion, then you have to figure
- 5:07Speaker 2: out what you're gonna do with your second cornerback spot.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Are you gonna go with Cooper Degen.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Are you gonna go with Keilee Ringo, who played four
- 5:13Speaker 2: snaps against the Cowboys his first play he was tagged.
- 5:16Speaker 1: With a penalty.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Or are you gonna go with maybe a Jacoryan Bennett
- 5:21Speaker 2: who hasn't played many defensive snaps this season, just twenty four,
- 5:25Speaker 2: been playing sporadically on special.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Teams since returning.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And then you have to worry about the safety position
- 5:30Speaker 2: and how you're gonna allocate those snaps.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
- 5:35Speaker 3: and kids at home, like me, you always want them

- 8:14Speaker 1: So it's not an exact science.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I can tell you that the Michael Carter has that ability.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I can tell you that Sidney Brown's gonna be a
- 8:23Speaker 2: lot of fun to watch flying around out there. He's
- 8:25Speaker 2: gonna have to be mindful of penalties and things of
- 8:28Speaker 2: that nature, but he's certainly a fun player to watch.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Just watch him operate as a gunner. One of the
- 8:35Speaker 2: best players in the league at doing so. Just physical, twitchy,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and he craves contacts, so that'll be fun to watch.
- 8:42Speaker 2: We'll see if he's able to play within the confines
- 8:44Speaker 2: of Vic's system, and he's gonna be somebody that they're
- 8:47Speaker 2: gonna have to lean heavily on here for the foreseeable future.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And then Michael Carter, as I mentioned, can do it.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Andre sam is a player who the Eagles like. I've
- 8:56Speaker 2: gotten to know him a little bit over the past
- 8:57Speaker 2: year and a half talking to him, and he actually
- 9:01Speaker 2: lockers next to Mac McWilliams, who, of course is my
- 9:03Speaker 2: rookie diary subject this season. So he's a player who
- 9:06Speaker 2: could be elevated from the practice squad. Remember, Marcus Epps,
- 9:09Speaker 2: who was on the fifty three, is on injured reserve
- 9:12Speaker 2: with an with I believe I don't know what the
- 9:15Speaker 2: designation of his injury, the nature of his injury was,
- 9:18Speaker 2: because it was late.
- 9:19Speaker 1: In maybe the Giants game.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yes, I think it was the Giants game that he
- 9:24Speaker 2: got injured and there was so it's unclear, but either way,
- 9:29Speaker 2: he's on injured reserve, so he won't be available.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And you also have you can get creative with your secondary.
- 9:35Speaker 2: If you maybe look at a Parry Nickerson, if you
- 9:39Speaker 2: maybe elevate him for the game, he can play Nickel
- 9:41Speaker 2: mc McWilliams can play Nickel, if you want to move
- 9:43Speaker 2: Cooper Dejini outside or even move him at safety. There's
- 9:47Speaker 2: a lot of things that they can do. But it's
- 9:49Speaker 2: a short week and they're banged up at one area
- 9:53Speaker 2: that secondary, so it's something to keep an eye on
- 9:55Speaker 2: as the week progresses. We'll learn more Tuesday when we're
- 9:58Speaker 2: back at the Novacare complet Fic Fangio speaks at two o'clock.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Then there's the walkthrough and then locker room and then
- 10:06Speaker 2: there will be a practice on Wednesday. Nothing on Thursday
- 10:09Speaker 2: and then of course the game on Friday.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Hey, one thing that always scares me is the latest
