Latest / Outspoken the Podcast / Rachel Dillon's Baby Name Slip Up
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:04Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:07Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Amy Gerard
- 0:11Speaker 1: calls out her own family on Mother's Day. Saffron Barker's
- 0:15Speaker 1: dream trip to the US has turned into a nightmare.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Why everyone is losing their minds over the boo-boos and
- 0:21Speaker 1: our Friday debrief. But first, Rachel Dillon has been forced
- 0:25Speaker 1: to ask her followers to keep a special secret for her.
- 0:28Speaker 1: The fitness influencer is currently 30 weeks pregnant and accidentally
- 0:32Speaker 1: let slip her son's name to her 1.8 million followers
- 0:36Speaker 1: on her Instagram story. Now, Kate, she only realized the
- 0:39Speaker 1: mistake when she received an influx of messages from her followers. Yeah,
- 0:43Speaker 1: she quickly deleted the story and wrote to her audience,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I did just say his name on my story for
- 0:48Speaker 1: all of those who saw and messaged. Oops, baby brain,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but can it be our little secret? It's been a
- 0:53Speaker 1: name I've wanted from my boy for years and I
- 0:55Speaker 1: speak about him using his name so it's just natural. Now, fortunately,
- 0:59Speaker 1: from what I've seen, people have been pretty respectful to
- 1:01Speaker 1: Rachel's wishes. We even had a thread in our Facebook
- 1:04Speaker 1: group asking what's the name and no one has given it,
- 1:06Speaker 1: which I'm pleased to see. I'm actually shocked that no
- 1:09Speaker 1: one has leaked this name. It's a very pleasant surprise.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Do we think that maybe not that many people caught
- 1:14Speaker 1: the name? Well, I think it's probably a case of
- 1:16Speaker 1: the people who twigged and heard the name and messaged her.
- 1:19Speaker 1: are probably hardcore Rachel Dillon fans and they want to
- 1:22Speaker 1: respect her privacy. And she put out that message saying,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you know, please, can you help keep my secret? I
- 1:26Speaker 1: bet the Daily Mail's kicking themselves that they didn't catch
- 1:28Speaker 1: this name. Yeah, I've seen a few influencer watchdog accounts asking,
- 1:32Speaker 1: did anyone catch it? Now, while Rachel is pregnant with
- 1:34Speaker 1: her first baby, she's also a step-mom to her husband,
- 1:37Speaker 1: Toby Pierce's daughter, Anna. Anna's mom is, of course, Kayla Acinas,
- 1:42Speaker 1: Toby's ex-fiancee and business partner. And I have really enjoyed
- 1:46Speaker 1: seeing Anna and Rachel's relationship blossom on her Instagram story.
- 1:50Speaker 1: And it's so sweet because Rachel shared a video of
- 1:53Speaker 1: Anna surprising her with a Mother's Day card where she
- 1:56Speaker 1: called her her second mummy. Let's take a listen.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I'll read it. It shows her big belly.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I do.
- 2:05Speaker 2: My mum wishes the baby.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Very healthy. That's very true.
- 2:18Speaker 4: This one.
- 2:21Speaker 2: My mum should get an award for growing a baby.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I think I should do. She's unique because she is
- 2:31Speaker 2: my second mummy. Aw, that's so nice, baby.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I love how focused she was on the fact that
- 2:39Speaker 1: Rachel gets around poo-bearing it, as I like to call it,
- 2:42Speaker 1: with her belly out all the time. I just loved it.
- 2:44Speaker 1: the things that kids seem to focus on. Well, it
- 2:47Speaker 1: is pretty funny because I think it's quite a novel
- 2:49Speaker 1: thing for people to say, like it's in fashion at
- 2:51Speaker 1: the moment, but you know, a kid kind of just
- 2:54Speaker 1: calls it how they see it and says, oh, you
- 2:56Speaker 1: wear your tummy out all the time. When I see
- 2:58Speaker 1: these blossoming relationships between step parents, I sometimes wonder how
- 3:02Speaker 1: the other parents feel. I put myself in that situation
- 3:05Speaker 1: and think, How would I feel if my future child
- 3:08Speaker 1: referred to someone else as their second mum? Yeah, I'm
- 3:10Speaker 1: not going to lie. When I was watching it, I
- 3:12Speaker 1: was thinking, oh, I wonder how I'd feel if this
- 3:14Speaker 1: was Jack. And my heart actually sank a little bit.
- 3:17Speaker 1: But then you've got to remember, it's so nice that
- 3:20Speaker 1: Anna gets on with their stepmum. I mean, the situation
- 3:23Speaker 1: would be way worse. I mean, in fairy tales, you
- 3:25Speaker 1: hear about all these evil stepmums. And I think it's
- 3:27Speaker 1: actually so nice that we're seeing this positive stepmother and
- 3:31Speaker 1: stepdaughter relationship playing out. It is really beautiful. I think
- 3:33Speaker 1: you'd be very relieved that your child had such a
- 3:36Speaker 1: positive person in their life. But for me, for some reason,
- 3:39Speaker 1: them calling them also their mum, I would just find
- 3:42Speaker 1: really triggering. The thing is you probably wouldn't normally have
- 3:45Speaker 1: to watch it, but because Rachel has shared it on
- 3:47Speaker 1: social media, you are watching it in real time and
- 3:50Speaker 1: that interaction. That being said, Anna also seems very close
- 3:54Speaker 1: with Jay, which is Kayla's partner. I don't know if
- 3:57Speaker 1: she refers to him as dad. But it's an interesting one.
- 4:01Speaker 1: She wasn't referring to Rachel as mum. Like she was
- 4:04Speaker 1: calling her Rachel, but it just said she had to
- 4:06Speaker 1: fill out a worksheet for school and it said my
- 4:08Speaker 1: second mummy. Like that's a fun fact about her. I'm
- 4:10Speaker 1: looking forward to all of our kids going to school.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I want to receive some of these gifts. They're quite funny.
- 4:15Speaker 1: The only thing is the kids seem to drop you
- 4:16Speaker 1: in it and point out all of your embarrassing little
- 4:19Speaker 1: flaws or the stupid things that you do around the house. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 1: they don't sugarcoat anything.
- 4:24Speaker 4: All right, quick PSA for all the husbands out there.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Your mom can get a text message, a phone call,
- 4:35Speaker 4: but if you have a wife with kids, that's the
- 4:40Speaker 4: woman that needs to be celebrated for that day.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Amy Gerard has slammed her family for not celebrating her
- 4:49Speaker 1: on Mother's Day. The radio host shared an emotional post
- 4:52Speaker 1: saying she felt unappreciated and undervalued. Kate, before we get
- 4:56Speaker 1: into it, for those not familiar with Amy, can you
- 4:58Speaker 1: give us a bit of background? Well, Amy actually started
- 5:00Speaker 1: out on social media documenting her journey with motherhood on Instagram.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Is that a fancy way of saying that she's a
- 5:06Speaker 1: mummy blogger? Because I know the term mummy blogger is
- 5:08Speaker 1: very frowned upon at the moment. We get nervous to
- 5:10Speaker 1: use that. Yeah, it is a term that we're trying
- 5:12Speaker 1: to retire at the moment. So her audience began to
- 5:15Speaker 1: grow as she shared her honest and sometimes comedic take
- 5:18Speaker 1: on parenting. She now has 156,000 followers and released a memoir,
- 5:23Speaker 1: host two podcasts, created a wine company. And as you
- 5:26Speaker 1: said in the intro, has become a weekend radio host
- 5:29Speaker 1: on Kiss FM. Now on Mother's Day, Amy shared a
- 5:32Speaker 1: photo of clouds over a river at dusk with the caption,
- 5:36Speaker 1: nothing quite like Mother's Day to really highlight how underappreciated
- 5:40Speaker 1: and undervalued you are. One day and not a single
- 5:43Speaker 1: person in my family could make it special. I'm flying
- 5:46Speaker 1: to Paris next year. Can you imagine being her husband
- 5:49Speaker 1: and opening up Instagram and saying this? You'd be like,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I have fucked up. Oh, your stomach would absolutely drop
- 5:56Speaker 1: because not only are your family and friends seeing this,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but over 156,000 people on Instagram who are judging you
- 6:02Speaker 1: for not doing anything. And you just know in this
- 6:04Speaker 1: day and age, there's going to be think pieces written
- 6:06Speaker 1: about it. It's going to be spoken about a lot.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And there's probably going to be a big argument at home.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And also the fact that she now is a radio host.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 1: This is going to be a topic on her radio show.
- 6:16Speaker 1: It's also awkward because this year, And we've spoken about
- 6:19Speaker 1: it with our friends. I've seen this real shift of
- 6:21Speaker 1: the way that people are celebrating Mother's Day, particularly on
- 6:24Speaker 1: social media. When I woke up, there were a lot
- 6:27Speaker 1: of mothers who were almost celebrating themselves, which I thought
- 6:30Speaker 1: was quite nice. Like they were marking it with a
- 6:32Speaker 1: post of them and their children saying that, you know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: thank you for making me a mom and sharing the
- 6:37Speaker 1: highlights of their motherhood journey, which I haven't seen before.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It seemed like you had to wish everyone a happy
- 6:43Speaker 1: Mother's Day, like your friends who are moms and your
- 6:45Speaker 1: mother-in-law and your mom. And like, It's not just because
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think the day is about your mum and your
- 6:50Speaker 1: relationship with your mum. And then also if you're a mother,
- 6:53Speaker 1: your kid showing you some appreciation.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I mean, the shops must be loving it because I
- 6:57Speaker 1: don't know where this concept of having to buy other
- 6:59Speaker 1: mum's presents came from. I felt so terrible. My sister-in-law
- 7:03Speaker 1: bought me this beautiful little jumpsuit for our baby and
- 7:06Speaker 1: was saying, oh, you know, even though you haven't had
- 7:07Speaker 1: the baby yet. happy first Mother's Day. And I just
- 7:10Speaker 1: felt like an asshole because I didn't buy her anything.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I was like, I didn't know this was a thing. Well,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, we were talking about, I think it
- 7:15Speaker 1: was on a subs episode, how it was contentious whether
- 7:18Speaker 1: you get someone who's pregnant a Mother's Day gift or not,
- 7:20Speaker 1: or they have to wait till they have had the baby.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I feel like Brandon was scared. When I woke up,
- 7:26Speaker 1: he prepared me my favorite breakfast, very basic, which was
- 7:28Speaker 1: Nutella on toast. He bought me some AirPods. I was
- 7:32Speaker 1: quite taken back by the gift. And he also had
- 7:34Speaker 1: a card because he knows that I love cards. And
- 7:36Speaker 1: He had a message from our unborn son, Archie, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: also himself in there. And he did say, because your
- 7:42Speaker 1: husband and Amy's husband, they both put up these beautiful
- 7:45Speaker 1: posts for your first Mother's Day with the carousel of photos.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And he's like, do you want me to do a
- 7:49Speaker 1: social media post? I was like, no, that's fine. Well,
- 7:52Speaker 1: my husband also got the memo. I was very spoiled
- 7:54Speaker 1: and very grateful for all the effort that he put in.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I definitely didn't have the same situation as Amy Gerard.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So the next day, she went on to her Instagram
- 8:03Speaker 1: story to provide a bit more context. So talking to
- 8:06Speaker 1: the camera, she explained that she's low maintenance and doesn't
- 8:10Speaker 1: ask for much or expect gifts. However, she said she
- 8:13Speaker 1: was hoping for a cup of tea or breakfast in
- 8:16Speaker 1: bed and got neither. Instead, she said that she did
- 8:20Speaker 1: countless loads of washing, raked the lawn and broke up
- 8:22Speaker 1: arguments between her kids. She went on to say it
- 8:25Speaker 1: was her fault for thinking things would be different on
- 8:27Speaker 1: Mother's Day. Here's more of what she said. And so
- 8:32Speaker 1: I basically just got on with my day and I
- 8:36Speaker 1: was just whatever.
- 8:39Speaker 4: And then towards the afternoon, I don't know, Bobby and
- 8:42Speaker 4: Kobe were.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Off their f * * * ing tits. They were
- 8:45Speaker 1: like demonic children. And then they were just like taking
- 8:49Speaker 1: it in turns to go me.
- 8:51Speaker 4: And then I think at like 3.30 I was like
- 8:54Speaker 4: f * * * this.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And I just got my keys and I left. I
- 9:01Speaker 1: feel like having breakfast in bed supplied for you is
- 9:04Speaker 1: the bare minimum when you've got kids who live at home.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I remember being in my 20s and still making pancakes
- 9:11Speaker 1: for mum on the morning of Mother's Day. I don't
- 9:13Speaker 1: think that there's any excuse here. I also think that
- 9:16Speaker 1: it comes down to the father setting the agenda for
- 9:19Speaker 1: the day and saying, hey, we're going to get up early,
- 9:21Speaker 1: we're going to make mum some breakfast and let's plan
- 9:23Speaker 1: a nice day for her. I do feel a bit
- 9:25Speaker 1: uncomfortable how she said her kids were off their effing
- 9:28Speaker 1: tits and they were demonic. They must be bad though.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I mean, they're primary school aged children. I think her
- 9:34Speaker 1: oldest one is 10 and the others are a little
- 9:35Speaker 1: bit younger. Maybe she thought this was relatable though, because
- 9:38Speaker 1: we were seeing, as I said before, just all of
- 9:41Speaker 1: the beautiful moments of motherhood being shared on Instagram on Sunday,
- 9:45Speaker 1: whereas no one was really showing the reality. Well, I'm
- 9:48Speaker 1: glad that we got a bit of reality on Mother's Day.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I mean, as an influencer, it was nice to actually,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know, see that her day wasn't perfect. And I
- 9:56Speaker 1: think obviously we're seeing a lot of highlight reels from
- 9:59Speaker 1: the day I think she must have gone online, started
- 10:01Speaker 1: comparing her day to everyone else's and just the rage
- 10:05Speaker 1: would have built up and built up. I mean, the
- 10:07Speaker 1: response was mixed. Amy said that she was flooded with
- 10:10Speaker 1: sympathetic messages from her followers. She said she received 2000
- 10:14Speaker 1: replies to her story from other mums saying, that they
- 10:17Speaker 1: also felt like pieces of shit on Mother's Day, which
- 10:19Speaker 1: is so sad. Well, that's what I hate about social media,
- 10:21Speaker 1: because in this day and age, you can compare and
- 10:23Speaker 1: see what other people's partners and kids have done for
- 10:26Speaker 1: them and instantly think, well, why haven't I had the
- 10:29Speaker 1: same treatment? I just think it made me feel uncomfortable
- 10:31Speaker 1: that she specifically named her children and called them out.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I do think the message should have been directed at
- 10:37Speaker 1: her husband. I mean, the kids are young. Yes, they
- 10:40Speaker 1: could have behaved, but it's up to the partner to
- 10:43Speaker 1: facilitate breakfast in bed and a present. I mean, don't
- 10:45Speaker 1: schools do cards and stuff like that? We're talking about
- 10:48Speaker 1: Rachel Dillon got a card. Well, talking about Mother's Day cards,
- 10:52Speaker 1: did you see the one that Roxy Jusanko's daughter Pixie
- 10:55Speaker 1: Curtis wrote for her? I'm still in shock over this
- 10:57Speaker 1: one because she took a photo of the message in
- 11:00Speaker 1: the card. And one line that stood out to me was,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I will miss you so, so, so much when I
- 11:06Speaker 1: go to Switzerland. who will tell you to go tan
- 11:08Speaker 1: because the UV is high? Now, Roxy and her family,
- 11:12Speaker 1: they're currently living in Singapore. And just like Australia, the
- 11:15Speaker 1: UV is very high there. The really disturbing thing about
- 11:18Speaker 1: this that people may not realize is that Roxy and
- 11:21Speaker 1: her daughter are both natural redheads. They have very pale skin,
- 11:24Speaker 1: type one skin. So the fact that Roxy has been
- 11:27Speaker 1: pushing this as a normal message to her daughter is
- 11:30Speaker 1: quite concerning. Yeah, well, redheads are significantly more prone to
- 11:33Speaker 1: skin cancer, particularly melanoma. In fact, their risk of melanoma
- 11:37Speaker 1: is 10 to 100 times higher than those without red hair. So, fuck,
- 11:42Speaker 1: it gets me worried. We're going to Vegas. Come on
- 11:46Speaker 1: a road trip with us. Oh my goodness, I've already
- 11:49Speaker 1: been freaking out because they've just given us our dream
- 11:52Speaker 1: car to drive. UK influencer Saffron Barker's dream trip to
- 11:57Speaker 1: the US with her boyfriend Josh Milne has turned into
- 12:00Speaker 1: a nightmare. The couple are now stranded in the States
- 12:03Speaker 1: after their passports were stolen from the boot of their
- 12:06Speaker 1: rental car. Sophie, it sounds like it's been the holiday
- 12:09Speaker 1: from hell. Why did I get Matt Lucas's voice in
- 12:11Speaker 1: my head? With Saffron also being hospitalized. Yeah, it really
- 12:14Speaker 1: seems to be one thing after the other on this trip.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It was the first time that Saffron was traveling to
- 12:19Speaker 1: the US with her boyfriend. The third time this year though. Well,
- 12:21Speaker 1: the third time for her, first time with her and
- 12:23Speaker 1: her new boyfriend. Now, Saffron shared an Instagram story of
- 12:27Speaker 1: her sitting in a very fancy dentist chair And her
- 12:30Speaker 1: eyes looked incredibly puffy like she'd been crying and she
- 12:33Speaker 1: was holding onto this stuffed toy rat. Now, the caption read,
- 12:37Speaker 1: in the last week, I have been in hospital, had
- 12:39Speaker 1: emergency surgery, got my rental car completely smashed up and
- 12:43Speaker 1: every single thing I own stolen, including my passport, so
- 12:47Speaker 1: I can't get home. When I saw this, I immediately
- 12:50Speaker 1: sent it to you because I was like, fuck, what
- 12:52Speaker 1: is going on? Well, she looks completely broken and the
- 12:55Speaker 1: post generated a lot of confusion because Saffron has been
- 12:58Speaker 1: in the US for a few weeks now on a
- 13:00Speaker 1: brand shoot, and she also attended Stagecoach with her sister-in-law.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And one of the big reasons that she is also
- 13:07Speaker 1: in the US is to get her teeth fixed. We
- 13:09Speaker 1: spoke about this in depth on the subs episode, because
- 13:12Speaker 1: for the past year, she has been trolled and ridiculed
- 13:15Speaker 1: about her veneers. So she opened up last week that
- 13:18Speaker 1: she had been considering suing her London-based dentist over them. Yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 1: because she previously tried Invisalign, which I think a lot
- 13:25Speaker 1: of influencers were doing at the time. But She hated
- 13:28Speaker 1: wearing the plates because she was very self-conscious about having
- 13:31Speaker 1: a lisp on camera. So her dentist allegedly convinced her
- 13:35Speaker 1: that he could make her teeth perfect by adding just
- 13:38Speaker 1: two veneers at the front of her smile. So the
- 13:41Speaker 1: two veneers quickly turned into four and it left her
- 13:44Speaker 1: teeth looking really mismatched in color because they were just
- 13:47Speaker 1: so white. And they also were way too big for
- 13:51Speaker 1: her mouth. She ended up actually having to go to
- 13:53Speaker 1: a second local dentist who attempted to fix her teeth
- 13:57Speaker 1: and they ended up having to add even more veneers
- 14:00Speaker 1: which left her with this very unnatural looking smile. The
- 14:03Speaker 1: worst bit is she didn't actually update her audience to
- 14:06Speaker 1: say she was getting veneers so she would attract so
- 14:08Speaker 1: many comments like what is going on with your teeth
- 14:10Speaker 1: because it made her look like a completely different person.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Yeah so she decided that while she was in the
- 14:16Speaker 1: US why don't I go and fix my teeth for
- 14:18Speaker 1: a third time so she booked herself into this celebrity
- 14:22Speaker 1: dentist called dr john marashi who is based in la
- 14:26Speaker 1: he's actually the man behind lindsey lohan's new smile last
- 14:29Speaker 1: year there were so many before and after photos of
- 14:32Speaker 1: lindsey circulating on tiktok because she'd had a lot of
- 14:35Speaker 1: really good work done but also her teeth because during
- 14:38Speaker 1: those years where she was in the public eye lindsey
- 14:41Speaker 1: had a drug problem which affected the way her teeth
- 14:43Speaker 1: looked and everyone was saying oh my god she looks
- 14:45Speaker 1: so much better with these new veneers they're very natural
- 14:48Speaker 1: it's because her teeth actually look like what they used
- 14:51Speaker 1: to look like. Well, there's more shape to them. Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and I think that's where a lot of influencers and
- 14:55Speaker 1: celebrities have gone wrong. They've all jumped on this bandwagon
- 14:57Speaker 1: and got these big white fake veneers. And I think
- 15:00Speaker 1: we're going to see a lot of people reversing them
- 15:02Speaker 1: to much more natural looking teeth. Now, Saffron's post led
- 15:05Speaker 1: many people to speculate that maybe she'd been unlucky again
- 15:08Speaker 1: and had medical complications due to her third set of veneers.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Because again, this photo was taken... of her at the dentist.
- 15:15Speaker 1: It was like she was speaking about having this terrible
- 15:17Speaker 1: time at the dentist. Yeah, well, following the speculation, the
- 15:20Speaker 1: next day Saffron shared a post gushing about her new teeth.
- 15:22Speaker 1: So she wrote, after all the dramas I've had this trip,
- 15:25Speaker 1: there's been a lot. I'm still smiling because of the
- 15:28Speaker 1: incredible work Dr. John has done to transform my smile
- 15:31Speaker 1: back to being mine again. After having such bad experience
- 15:34Speaker 1: with dental work in the past, I was honestly scarred
- 15:37Speaker 1: and didn't think I'd ever be able to sit in
- 15:39Speaker 1: a dentist's chair again. But then I met John, who
- 15:41Speaker 1: completely changed that. There are some people in life you
- 15:44Speaker 1: know are just special people and this man has proved
- 15:47Speaker 1: that and given me faith back in humanity. Thank you, Dr.
- 15:50Speaker 2: John.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Your understanding, care and attention in and out of office
- 15:53Speaker 1: hours are beyond any expectation. I'll be eternally grateful for
- 15:57Speaker 1: your kindness. It's definitely a bit of a backpedal there.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I feel like his team saw her Instagram story of
- 16:04Speaker 1: her sitting inconsolable in his chair and were like, clear
- 16:08Speaker 1: this up immediately because this is a very gushy post.
- 16:11Speaker 1: The fact that she said he's restored her faith in humanity.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I mean, that's a massive call.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Well, it also makes me feel like the dental work
- 16:18Speaker 1: must have been gifted because why else is she doing
- 16:21Speaker 1: a post about it and showing off his work and
- 16:23Speaker 1: saying how fantastic he is? Or it could be a
- 16:25Speaker 1: case that he was so pissed off that it looked
- 16:27Speaker 1: like she was inferring things had gone wrong, that she
- 16:29Speaker 1: had to post this to kind of smooth things over
- 16:32Speaker 1: with him. Well, anyone can see looking at the photos
- 16:34Speaker 1: that her teeth look a million times better. They look
- 16:36Speaker 1: so much more natural. They have this really nice shape
- 16:39Speaker 1: to them because before her teeth just sort of They
- 16:41Speaker 1: just went in one line and they were all the
- 16:43Speaker 1: same size. They just looked so unnatural. She looks so
- 16:46Speaker 1: much younger as well. She looks more like herself. Now,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Saffron has still kept her followers in the dark about
- 16:53Speaker 1: what this medical emergency actually was. And many people have
- 16:57Speaker 1: accused her of clickbaiting the story to build anticipation for
- 17:01Speaker 1: when she does a full story time on a YouTube channel.
- 17:04Speaker 1: She did open up though on TikTok about her rental
- 17:07Speaker 1: car being robbed. So in a post on TikTok, she
- 17:09Speaker 1: shared a video of her and her boyfriend Josh singing
- 17:12Speaker 1: in the car on their way to Las Vegas and wrote,
- 17:15Speaker 1: they don't know it yet, but in two hours time
- 17:17Speaker 1: into their dream road trip, they'll end up getting their
- 17:19Speaker 1: rental car smashed up and everything they had with them stolen,
- 17:23Speaker 1: including their passports. She then followed it up with a
- 17:26Speaker 1: vlog of their road trip a day later. So Josh
- 17:29Speaker 1: had met up with Saffron in LA just days before
- 17:32Speaker 1: and And they'd planned to do a four-hour road trip
- 17:35Speaker 1: to Las Vegas. And it was pretty awkward because in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the opening scenes of this TikTok vlog, Saffron said she
- 17:41Speaker 1: was so excited because the rental company had given them
- 17:44Speaker 1: their dream car. And she felt as though they had
- 17:46Speaker 1: a lot of luck on their side that morning. Talk
- 17:49Speaker 1: about the foreshadowing.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Josh then spoke about being nervous driving the car because
- 17:53Speaker 1: he hadn't driven in the U.S. before. and that he
- 17:56Speaker 1: had very precious cargo, so he wanted to be very safe. Oh, God. Now,
- 18:00Speaker 1: the car in question was a white Jeep, and I
- 18:02Speaker 1: feel like they looked very much like Ken and Barbie
- 18:04Speaker 1: in this car. I feel like it would have attracted
- 18:06Speaker 1: a lot of attention. So they ended up stopping at
- 18:09Speaker 1: a 7-Eleven for hot dogs and Cokes, and then hours
- 18:12Speaker 1: later stopped at a 50s diner called Peggy Sue's. And
- 18:15Speaker 1: Saffron spoke about how it was really nostalgic for her
- 18:18Speaker 1: because that's where her and her family stopped for the
- 18:20Speaker 1: first time they drove to Las Vegas. Now, the diner,
- 18:23Speaker 1: as Saffron pointed out, was in the middle of nowhere.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And the couple left their suitcases in the back and
- 18:29Speaker 1: went inside for lunch. I want to point out that
- 18:31Speaker 1: this was in the middle of the day, so broad daylight. Yeah. Now,
- 18:34Speaker 1: when they returned to their car, they found the back
- 18:37Speaker 1: window had been completely smashed in and their suitcases were gone.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And Saffron was in tears explaining that her medication had
- 18:45Speaker 1: been stolen and everything else in the car was gone.
- 18:48Speaker 1: What medication? Because there's been a lot of question marks
- 18:50Speaker 1: over whether she's on Ozempic. Well, surely she wouldn't include
- 18:53Speaker 1: that in the vlog if she was referring to it
- 18:56Speaker 1: as epic. I don't know. It just makes me think
- 18:58Speaker 1: because people have said they've spotted it in her fridge. Oh, really?
- 19:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 1: That thought did cross my mind. But then I also
- 19:05Speaker 1: remember the fact that she had been rushed in for
- 19:07Speaker 1: emergency surgery. So maybe the medication was related to that.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I assume the emergency surgery was after this incident, but
- 19:13Speaker 1: who knows? We need more details. We need the story time.
- 19:16Speaker 1: The thing is, there was quite an outpouring of sympathy
- 19:19Speaker 1: for Saffron. A lot of people felt bad for her
- 19:21Speaker 1: and Josh. But there were also a number of people
- 19:24Speaker 1: who blamed the couple for leaving their passports in the car.
- 19:27Speaker 1: One user wrote, but who leaves their passports in a
- 19:29Speaker 1: car whilst on holiday? And Saffron actually responded to that
- 19:32Speaker 1: post saying, anyone who is driving from one state to another. Now,
- 19:36Speaker 1: another user agreed saying, why leave important things in the car?
- 19:39Speaker 1: Always keep it on you. She responded again saying, you
- 19:42Speaker 1: expect us to take four suitcases and two duffels with
- 19:44Speaker 1: us into a restaurant we was in. Sorry, that just
- 19:47Speaker 1: sounds like a, for 30 minutes. It's easy. said than done.
- 19:50Speaker 1: There's a lot of victim blaming going on. I mean,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I am surprised that you wouldn't probably put your passport
- 19:57Speaker 1: in your handbag and bring it in, but all the
- 19:58Speaker 1: other things, like she's had everything stolen from her. Also,
- 20:01Speaker 1: when I saw that this robbery had taken place in
- 20:03Speaker 1: the middle of the day outside of a diner where
- 20:06Speaker 1: there are a lot of people walking in and out.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I was quite surprised. Like you would think that your
- 20:11Speaker 1: stuff was safe in the back of your car. But
- 20:13Speaker 1: it sounds like they were being pretty flashy. Like they've
- 20:15Speaker 1: got this flash car. They're, you know, attractive couple. They
- 20:18Speaker 1: were obviously catching a lot of attention and some locals gone,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm going to rob all their expensive belongings. Well, I
- 20:24Speaker 1: hope that they didn't take a camera because I really
- 20:26Speaker 1: want to see this trip unfold. She probably was vlogging
- 20:29Speaker 1: in the diner. So it's probably safe.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Hopefully.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Well, one TikTok user wrote in the comments that the
- 20:34Speaker 1: exact same thing happened to them recently in San Francisco.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And they warned that rental cars can become a target
- 20:40Speaker 1: in the US because generally they have a different state's
- 20:43Speaker 1: license plate on them. So it's very obvious that people
- 20:45Speaker 1: are probably carrying luggage around and traveling. I feel like
- 20:48Speaker 1: this would be quite triggering for Saffron because back in 2019,
- 20:52Speaker 1: her family home was burgled while she and her family
- 20:54Speaker 1: were asleep inside. So her brother Jed woke up to
- 20:57Speaker 1: find one of the intruders in his room. God, that
- 21:00Speaker 1: would be so terrifying. And he mistakenly thought it was
- 21:03Speaker 1: a family member and went back to sleep. Gosh, that
- 21:06Speaker 1: is terrifying. The intruders ended up stealing their cars as
- 21:09Speaker 1: well as a number of possessions inside their home. So
- 21:12Speaker 1: this incident would have really triggered and brought back those
- 21:16Speaker 1: emotions for Saffron.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Someone please explain this to me, why I'm in my
- 21:21Speaker 2: 30s and I'm contemplating buying a little gremlin toy. Is
- 21:25Speaker 2: that what they even are? Like, why do I want
- 21:27Speaker 2: a labubu?
- 21:28Speaker 4: Why do I need one?
- 21:30Speaker 1: The new It Girl trinket toy has arrived on Aussie shores.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Forget jellycats and sunny angels, a fluffy monster bag charm
- 21:37Speaker 1: called a labubu is being heralded as the epitome of chic.
- 21:41Speaker 1: The craze has taken hold in Australia with hundreds lining
- 21:44Speaker 1: up overnight to get their hands on the in-demand monster plushies.
- 21:49Speaker 1: While many have bought into the craze, others say this
- 21:51Speaker 1: is proof we're just sheep who copy influencers every move. Soph,
- 21:56Speaker 1: why do I already know people like you are the
- 21:59Speaker 1: target market? Look, I don't actually own a Labubu yet,
- 22:02Speaker 1: but I feel like by the end of this episode,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm going to convince myself that I need one because
- 22:08Speaker 1: I have literally engaged with one Labubu video on TikTok.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And now my whole feed is full of influencers doing
- 22:15Speaker 1: unboxing videos of them. I've got to admit, I had
- 22:17Speaker 1: no idea what a Labubu was before you brought it up.
- 22:21Speaker 1: For those people in the same camp as me, what
- 22:23Speaker 1: is it? Well, Gen Zers have actually been doing God's
- 22:26Speaker 1: work across TikTok and they've been kindly creating videos, educating
- 22:30Speaker 1: elder millennials about what they are and why we need one.
- 22:34Speaker 1: And we're not elder millennials though, Sophie. I'm not saying
- 22:36Speaker 1: we are. I'm saying if there's any elder millennials who
- 22:38Speaker 1: are listening, because again, they might be in the same
- 22:41Speaker 1: camp as you, Kate, and have never heard of them.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I first want to describe what they looked like, because
- 22:45Speaker 1: when I first saw them, I thought it was just
- 22:48Speaker 1: a fluffy bunny on a key chain. But a Labubu
- 22:50Speaker 1: is actually a fictional character that was created in 2015
- 22:54Speaker 1: by a Hong Kong artist called Kaysing Long. And they
- 22:58Speaker 1: actually appeared in his book called The Monsters. Now, he
- 23:01Speaker 1: based them off his love of Nordic folklore. And they're
- 23:05Speaker 1: known for having their fairy bodies, pointed ears, sharp teeth,
- 23:09Speaker 1: and also wide eyes. And some TikTokers are going as
- 23:12Speaker 1: far as describing the Labubu as works of art. While
- 23:16Speaker 1: others say that they bear a striking resemblance to the
- 23:19Speaker 1: characters in the Where the Wild Things Are books. Oh,
- 23:21Speaker 1: that book takes me back. Our grandparents used to have
- 23:23Speaker 1: it at their house and I got it for Jack. Well,
- 23:25Speaker 1: people are saying on TikTok that millennials will probably get
- 23:28Speaker 1: into this trend soon because of the connection that they
- 23:30Speaker 1: have with the Where the Wild Things Are book. It
- 23:32Speaker 1: kind of reminds me of back in the day when
- 23:33Speaker 1: we used to have about 10 different key rings and
- 23:35Speaker 1: our keys. Well, Kate, they're actually worn on bags. So
- 23:38Speaker 1: they're known as a bag charm, which is a whole
- 23:40Speaker 1: nother element to this story. Now, this character became so
- 23:44Speaker 1: popular in the Chinese kids' books that the designer decided
- 23:48Speaker 1: to take his work and create them into keychains. And
- 23:51Speaker 1: in 2019, he struck up an exclusive license agreement with Potmart,
- 23:56Speaker 1: which is a toy company in Beijing, which is known
- 23:58Speaker 1: for selling knickknacks and collectibles. So they are the only
- 24:01Speaker 1: place still that you can officially buy them from. So
- 24:04Speaker 1: if they're kids' toys, then why is every influencer now
- 24:06Speaker 1: sporting one on their bag? Well, it's really down to
- 24:09Speaker 1: Rihanna and a couple of big celebrities because They really
- 24:12Speaker 1: took off after Rihanna was spotted with a pink labubu
- 24:16Speaker 1: on her handbag. And you cannot find this pink labubu
- 24:20Speaker 1: anywhere now. Also, K-pop singer Lisa, who appeared on the
- 24:23Speaker 1: recent series of White Lotus, she is also behind the
- 24:27Speaker 1: rise in popularity because she started posting about her collection
- 24:30Speaker 1: on TikTok and instantly the sales surged. Recently, we've even
- 24:35Speaker 1: seen NBA players getting into the craze. So they're wearing
- 24:38Speaker 1: them clipped onto their pants when they rock up for
- 24:40Speaker 1: game days. It's fucking wild. I just don't get it.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I think they're extremely ugly and I'd hate to have
- 24:45Speaker 1: something hanging off my bag. I don't know if we
- 24:48Speaker 1: fall into the age group that's all about them. I
- 24:50Speaker 1: really think that they're for Gen Zers. The thing that
- 24:53Speaker 1: is pretty wild is that you can't even get your
- 24:54Speaker 1: hands on these things. You have to physically wait until
- 24:59Speaker 1: a new drop is at Potmart and you have to
- 25:01Speaker 1: physically line up in person to get them. Because as
- 25:04Speaker 1: I said, Potmart is the only place that stocks these keychains.
- 25:08Speaker 1: So where is the Potmart? Do we have one in Adelaide?
- 25:10Speaker 1: I've never heard of it before. I don't think we
- 25:11Speaker 1: have one in Adelaide. There is one in Sydney and recently-
- 25:15Speaker 1: there were people queuing up overnight on Pitt Street despite
- 25:18Speaker 1: the fact that there were these strong weather warnings in
- 25:20Speaker 1: place just to get their hands on the next drop.
- 25:23Speaker 1: It's pretty clever making them only available in person. It
- 25:26Speaker 1: adds to that exclusivity. I want to cut in. I
- 25:28Speaker 1: think you can also get them online though through resellers.
- 25:31Speaker 1: That's a whole other game. Yeah, but the genius behind
- 25:34Speaker 1: it is this blind box element similar to the sunny
- 25:37Speaker 1: angels you see popping up on TikTok. So it's basically
- 25:41Speaker 1: like a modern day lucky dip. So the idea is
- 25:45Speaker 1: you buy a labubu in this sealed box and you
- 25:47Speaker 1: don't know which one you're going to get. So it's
- 25:49Speaker 1: a collectible. And there's basically rare ones which are known
- 25:53Speaker 1: as secret labubu. So they've got special colorways and they're
- 25:57Speaker 1: worth a lot of money. And it also gives you
- 26:00Speaker 1: a bit of status if you've got one of these
- 26:01Speaker 1: special ones. It's pretty crazy because the Australian blind box
- 26:05Speaker 1: market is estimated to be worth $ 170 million. And I
- 26:09Speaker 1: really think it's because it plays into us almost revisiting
- 26:13Speaker 1: our childhood and getting that excitement. It's almost like gambling.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So when you say the Australian blind box market, are
- 26:20Speaker 1: there other companies other than Sunny Angels and Labubu doing
- 26:23Speaker 1: blind boxes? Yeah, well, there's a lot of collectibles that
- 26:25Speaker 1: play on this idea of which one are you going
- 26:27Speaker 1: to get? See, I remember absolutely begging mum and dad
- 26:31Speaker 1: to do a lucky dip and you were always disappointed
- 26:33Speaker 1: with what you got in there. Well, I think the
- 26:35Speaker 1: whole blind box concept was literally designed for TikTok because
- 26:39Speaker 1: you can share with your followers the theatre of it
- 26:42Speaker 1: all Because with these Labubus, you pop open the box
- 26:46Speaker 1: and there's the tearing of the packet, and then you
- 26:49Speaker 1: can share your excitement or disappointment. And then those videos
- 26:52Speaker 1: have the potential to go viral, particularly if you get
- 26:54Speaker 1: one of the secret Labubus. And on TikTok, Gen Zers
- 26:58Speaker 1: have described it as similar to gambling and getting this
- 27:02Speaker 1: serotonin rush when they unbox the Labubus. So There's a
- 27:05Speaker 1: lot of psychology behind it. Oh, yeah. These Labubus are
- 27:08Speaker 1: in such demand that Potmar are now selling them in slabs.
- 27:11Speaker 1: So you can get a slab of six or a
- 27:13Speaker 1: slab of 12. And in the slabs, you're guaranteed to
- 27:16Speaker 1: get one of each color and no double ups. It
- 27:19Speaker 1: seems to be the cheaper way to buy them and
- 27:21Speaker 1: the most efficient way to actually get one of the
- 27:23Speaker 1: colors that you want. There's also a one in 72
- 27:26Speaker 1: chance of getting a secret Labubu, which again are the
- 27:29Speaker 1: rare Labubus. So you do increase your chances by buying
- 27:32Speaker 1: them in the slab. There are varying reports of how
- 27:35Speaker 1: much Labubus actually cost because I had a look on
- 27:38Speaker 1: the Popmart website and one blind box, so that is
- 27:41Speaker 1: just for one Labubu, costs $ 72. Is that Australian dollars?
- 27:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Oh my God, what the hell? And the slabs depend
- 27:49Speaker 1: on what series you're buying. So on the website, there
- 27:53Speaker 1: were blind boxes which had six Labubus in them and
- 27:56Speaker 1: they ranged from $ 450 to $ 550.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Wow.
- 28:01Speaker 1: You can also individually buy ones with special outfits. So
- 28:04Speaker 1: these aren't the blind box ones. They're actually ones you
- 28:06Speaker 1: specifically choose. And they range from $ 299 to $ 499. So
- 28:13Speaker 1: these little cheap, fluffy key chains are literally being seen
- 28:17Speaker 1: as these signs of wealth, even though they look a
- 28:19Speaker 1: bit tacky hanging from your bag. God, who the hell
- 28:22Speaker 1: is affording this in this cost of sale price? They're like, oh, yep,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I'll just get a slab of 600. That's probably what
- 28:27Speaker 1: my rent is going to cost this week, but oh well. Well,
- 28:29Speaker 1: there are tons of resellers popping up on Facebook marketplace.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And I think it's purely for the fact that people
- 28:34Speaker 1: are buying whole slabs of them purely to get the
- 28:37Speaker 1: one color that they want. And then they're like, oh fuck,
- 28:40Speaker 1: I've got no use for these other ones that I'm
- 28:41Speaker 1: not interested in. There's also a dupe market that's popped up.
- 28:45Speaker 1: So they're called LeFouFous. They're a lot cheaper. What a
- 28:48Speaker 1: further name, LeFouFou. Because there are so many dupes popping up,
- 28:52Speaker 1: there's been a lot of TikToks created about how you
- 28:54Speaker 1: can decipher if your LeBouBou is real or fake. And
- 28:57Speaker 1: they actually have QR codes on their tags and also
- 29:00Speaker 1: the boxes. So you can go on the website, type
- 29:03Speaker 1: it in to make sure that it's actually real, which
- 29:05Speaker 1: is just wild. God, do Gen Zers just want to
- 29:07Speaker 1: be kids again? Do they have the internet? too quickly
- 29:10Speaker 1: and now they're like oh we just want to be
- 29:11Speaker 1: kids we've got our jellycats we've got our yeah i
- 29:14Speaker 1: think there is this whole element of wanting to revisit
- 29:17Speaker 1: your childhood i have seen so many aussie influencers getting
- 29:20Speaker 1: in on this trend and sofa dofa actually received a
- 29:23Speaker 1: bit of backlash because she paid for a slab of
- 29:26Speaker 1: labubu she actually managed to buy some online and the
- 29:29Speaker 1: store threw in around five more boxes for free let's
- 29:33Speaker 1: have a listen i'm so excited okay so i ordered
- 29:38Speaker 1: laboos from waves and um i.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Oh my god so i bought two from waves and
- 29:49Speaker 2: then i saw on my order confirmation i think they
- 29:52Speaker 2: recognize the name and they added in so.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Many People were livid in this comment section. One person wrote,
- 30:02Speaker 1: I mean, happy for you, but so frustrating. Influencers who
- 30:05Speaker 1: can afford things get things for free. And that comment
- 30:09Speaker 1: got over a thousand likes. Another wrote, purchasing two items
- 30:13Speaker 1: and getting everything else for free. I can't even get
- 30:16Speaker 1: my hands on one of these. It was kind of
- 30:18Speaker 1: like in the Molly Mae doco where she went through
- 30:20Speaker 1: the drive-thru and to get coffees and someone's like, oh,
- 30:22Speaker 1: if I'd known it was you, I would have given
- 30:24Speaker 1: it to you for free. It's like, why? She's someone
- 30:26Speaker 1: that can definitely afford this.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Now, TikToker Jackie Alexander also got in on the action
- 30:31Speaker 1: and I have been loving her unboxing videos with her fiance.
- 30:35Speaker 1: They lined up for two hours in Amsterdam to get
- 30:38Speaker 1: their hands on two slabs of the labubus. They did
- 30:40Speaker 1: pay for them, I have to say. And she said
- 30:43Speaker 1: that she didn't realize it was such a professional sport
- 30:46Speaker 1: to actually get a labubu. And I loved how into
- 30:49Speaker 1: it her fiance was. I think that that's true love there.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I want to know what is wrong with me psychologically
- 30:54Speaker 1: because why after all of this do I kind of
- 30:57Speaker 1: want one? I think I'm one of those people who
- 31:00Speaker 1: buy into the hype. I think I'd like the drama
- 31:02Speaker 1: of it all. I like not knowing which one I'd get.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm putting it out there. I'd like a yellow one.
- 31:07Speaker 1: That is my favorite color. But then I don't want
- 31:10Speaker 1: one off marketplace because then you don't have the fun
- 31:12Speaker 1: of having the thrill of which one you're going to get.
- 31:15Speaker 1: I think you get instant regret as soon as you
- 31:17Speaker 1: open the box. You know what it reminds me of?
- 31:19Speaker 1: Like the influencers are opening the boo-boos and we're over
- 31:21Speaker 1: here opening. Remember when Coles used to do those mini
- 31:23Speaker 1: versions of products?
- 31:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:25Speaker 1: So you would love it. You love the surprise of it.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And you'd rip open the packet. Have I got a
- 31:28Speaker 1: mini Vegemite? Have I got a little butter? I What
- 31:31Speaker 1: was exciting about them was that they were free. They
- 31:33Speaker 1: were thrown in with your order. It's like, I've already
- 31:35Speaker 1: purchased this, but I'm getting free things. Do you know what?
- 31:38Speaker 1: I almost feel like we're in the age group where
- 31:39Speaker 1: it'd look a bit tragic if I rocked up with
- 31:41Speaker 1: a little boo-boo on my handbag. I feel like there'd
- 31:43Speaker 1: be a lot of questions like, You know, a lot
- 31:45Speaker 1: of my friends probably be like, what the fuck is that?
- 31:47Speaker 1: I just find them ugly. I understand the jelly cat trend.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Jelly cats are absolutely gorgeous. I love jelly cats. They're
- 31:53Speaker 1: so cute. Once you buy them, though, you don't really
- 31:54Speaker 1: know what to do with them, though. At least with these,
- 31:56Speaker 1: you can take them out with you. I've seen a
- 31:57Speaker 1: lot of influencers using them as decorations, like home decor
- 32:02Speaker 1: on their shelves. I find that a bit tacky. I
- 32:04Speaker 1: wouldn't do that. It's like all those influencers that have
- 32:07Speaker 1: the Sunny Angels and it's really exciting and then they're like,
- 32:09Speaker 1: where do I put these? See, this is why you
- 32:10Speaker 1: have a kid because then you can decorate your nursery
- 32:13Speaker 1: with with the jellycats or the sunny angels. There has
- 32:16Speaker 1: been a lot of conversation online about how the labubu
- 32:20Speaker 1: is just proof that we are all sheep when it
- 32:22Speaker 1: comes to copying what influencers and celebrities do. Because a
- 32:26Speaker 1: year ago, if Joe Blow rocked up to a dinner
- 32:29Speaker 1: with a fluffy gremlin attached to their bag, people would
- 32:33Speaker 1: think it was hideous. Let's listen to one TikTok user
- 32:36Speaker 1: share his frustration about the trend.
- 32:39Speaker 3: If I see one more fucking labubu on my FYP,
- 32:43Speaker 3: I think I'm going to fucking start blocking everybody. I'm
- 32:45Speaker 3: so sick of these fucking little boo-boos. And can everybody
- 32:48Speaker 3: please get their own individual sense of style? Everybody just
- 32:51Speaker 3: copies everybody else.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I tend to agree with what this man is saying. Yeah,
- 32:55Speaker 1: I think that there has been this real rise in
- 32:58Speaker 1: a cool girl uniform and that everyone is following the
- 33:00Speaker 1: same fashion rules due to TikTok. I mean, if I
- 33:04Speaker 1: see one more person wearing an oversized blue shirt with jeans,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I think that has become the office uniform at the moment.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I think that people just want to blend in though.
- 33:13Speaker 1: And I think that if they have these particular elements
- 33:16Speaker 1: to build their outfit around, that they'll be in fashion.
- 33:19Speaker 1: It makes me sad that people are building an outfit
- 33:21Speaker 1: around a fluffy key chain bag. Let's get into our
- 33:25Speaker 1: Friday debrief. And I've got a recommendation. I wasn't really
- 33:28Speaker 1: expecting much from this Netflix show, but it really impressed me.
- 33:31Speaker 1: So it's called Chef's Table Legends. And it's a four-part
- 33:35Speaker 1: documentary about chefs that have changed how the world eats.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And the first part was about Jamie Oliver. And I
- 33:42Speaker 1: forgot how much I love Jamie Oliver. I've been watching
- 33:44Speaker 1: him since his Naked Chef days. I think we were
- 33:47Speaker 1: seven or eight when we first watched his shows.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:49Speaker 1: So I didn't realize, but he was absolutely plucked from obscurity.
- 33:54Speaker 1: So he was working at this restaurant, which was like
- 33:56Speaker 1: the place to be. And he got a call saying, oh,
- 33:59Speaker 1: can you come in and fill this person's shift? And
- 34:02Speaker 1: he rocked up and there was a film crew there
- 34:04Speaker 1: from the BBC just filming this show. And this camera
- 34:07Speaker 1: crew kept following him saying, oh, can you explain what
- 34:09Speaker 1: you're doing? So we've got this footage of this extremely
- 34:12Speaker 1: young looking Jamie Oliver. I think he was like 20
- 34:14Speaker 1: saying like, oh, no, I'm doing this, I'm doing that.
- 34:17Speaker 1: And the next day after the show aired, he was
- 34:21Speaker 1: inundated with TV show offers. They're like, we want to
- 34:23Speaker 1: give you your own show. Because he was quite a charismatic, cool,
- 34:27Speaker 1: young looking guy with his blonde floppy hair. Well, they
- 34:30Speaker 1: wanted him to make cooking cool for men because it
- 34:32Speaker 1: was really a female dominated industry at the time. Do
- 34:35Speaker 1: you remember he always said pucker, which was his catchphrase? Yeah,
- 34:39Speaker 1: it was quite funny watching his show back because the
- 34:42Speaker 1: first episode he filmed, he said it was really boring.
- 34:44Speaker 1: They got him to have his girlfriend Jules come over
- 34:48Speaker 1: and he was talking to the camera and it just
- 34:49Speaker 1: didn't seem like him. So he decided to come up
- 34:52Speaker 1: with this style to talk off camera to the person
- 34:54Speaker 1: that was filming. And then he had all his friends
- 34:57Speaker 1: come over and he's like, yeah, we used to just
- 34:58Speaker 1: get pissed and eat food and it was really fun.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Did he just like come in? So was it actually
- 35:03Speaker 1: filmed in his house or was it a studio? I'm
- 35:05Speaker 1: actually not sure if it was his house. It looked
- 35:07Speaker 1: like it could be. There's that famous scene where he
- 35:10Speaker 1: goes down the staircase banister and it's that spiral staircase. Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 1: This makes me want to watch it. There's been absolutely
- 35:17Speaker 1: nothing to watch on TV at the moment. We've been
- 35:18Speaker 1: watching reruns of shows that we previously watched. It actually
- 35:22Speaker 1: makes me want to go back and rewatch his show
- 35:23Speaker 1: 15 and also the school dinners one. They were classic
- 35:27Speaker 1: TV shows. Because you do forget what a big impact
- 35:29Speaker 1: he actually had on food and food education across the UK.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I didn't realize how old 15 was as well. I
- 35:35Speaker 1: had to go and Google it. It was made in 2002,
- 35:37Speaker 1: 23 years ago. Wow, it makes you feel old. Okay.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I want to talk to you about my nursery because
- 35:43Speaker 1: I spoke about it a little bit on the subs,
- 35:45Speaker 1: but I've got a few updates. So on Saturday, we
- 35:48Speaker 1: dedicated the day to removing everything from there and painting
- 35:53Speaker 1: it and putting in some wall paneling because The nursery
- 35:56Speaker 1: has just become this dumping room for everything. When we
- 35:59Speaker 1: did our kitchen rentals, everything from the kitchen went in there.
- 36:02Speaker 1: There was just so many random things. Isn't that the
- 36:04Speaker 1: wildest thing about becoming a parent, realizing that you actually
- 36:07Speaker 1: have to use the spare bedrooms and you can't have
- 36:09Speaker 1: a room to just dump crap in? Well, I think
- 36:11Speaker 1: Brandon was really sad because that was originally our movie room.
- 36:14Speaker 1: So we had a massive TV in there, which has
- 36:15Speaker 1: subsequently been removed and put in another room yeah that
- 36:19Speaker 1: room has now become redundant because for the next couple
- 36:21Speaker 1: of months you're not going to have a lot of
- 36:22Speaker 1: time to watch movies really i feel like the newborn
- 36:24Speaker 1: stages when you do have a bit of downtime to
- 36:26Speaker 1: actually watch some shows whilst your kid's feeding but anyway
- 36:30Speaker 1: i thought i'd talk about the look of the room
- 36:32Speaker 1: because you guys are giving me shit you're calling me
- 36:34Speaker 1: a beige mom i'm actually proud of myself for not
- 36:36Speaker 1: just making this room just basic white i've decided to
- 36:39Speaker 1: have a different element in there the paint color is
- 36:42Speaker 1: actually called beige what's the different element The beige. I
- 36:45Speaker 1: was going to just have it all white, but I
- 36:47Speaker 1: decided to put beige on the walls as well. I
- 36:49Speaker 1: don't know if that makes much of a difference. Are
- 36:51Speaker 1: you also getting a green chair? Apparently that's the new
- 36:54Speaker 1: beige mom thing. A green chair? No, I'm not getting
- 36:57Speaker 1: a green chair. I'm having a white chair. I have
- 36:59Speaker 1: tried to avoid green because I have heard a lot
- 37:01Speaker 1: of rhetoric that green is very aging. As soon as
- 37:03Speaker 1: people come in your house, they're like, oh, you're an
- 37:06Speaker 1: elder millennial. But anyway, everyone's been giving me shit that
- 37:09Speaker 1: there's not enough fun kids things in there. So I
- 37:12Speaker 1: thought I'd add a pop of color. I've bought this
- 37:14Speaker 1: mobile for the nursery. It is so cute. It's from
- 37:17Speaker 1: this little business called Romy and Me. This is not
- 37:21Speaker 1: sponsored at all. I just came across her Instagram and
- 37:24Speaker 1: she makes custom mobiles basically where you can include your dog.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I saw one. I really wanted to do it. And
- 37:29Speaker 1: then I saw the price tag and I was like,
- 37:30Speaker 1: holy shit. They are expensive, but I found a lot
- 37:33Speaker 1: of mobiles expensive online. But this one, she actually makes
- 37:36Speaker 1: everything from scratch. So I have sent in a photo
- 37:38Speaker 1: of Archie and I then got to pick all of
- 37:41Speaker 1: the different felt colors to make him up. He is
- 37:43Speaker 1: going to be surrounded by hot air balloons and stars
- 37:47Speaker 1: and moons and clouds. And I am saying that apart
- 37:50Speaker 1: from the beige, Archie is the inspiration for the room.
- 37:54Speaker 1: So there's going to be a lot of golden, a
- 37:55Speaker 1: lot of, I'm trying to find a Cocker Spaniel soft
- 37:58Speaker 1: toy to sit in the crib as well. Is it
- 38:00Speaker 1: at this point I tell you that you don't really
- 38:02Speaker 1: use a mobile that much? Yeah, well, I'm not under
- 38:04Speaker 1: any illusion that you do. I've heard that you don't
- 38:06Speaker 1: hang it over the cot. You hang it over the
- 38:07Speaker 1: changing mat.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:09Speaker 1: But I mean, I just thought it brought something different
- 38:12Speaker 1: to the room, another element to the room. They are
- 38:14Speaker 1: absolutely stunning mobiles. And I can see why they are
- 38:16Speaker 1: so expensive because I think a lot of time and
- 38:17Speaker 1: effort goes into them. Amy would know because she made
- 38:19Speaker 1: her own and she was like, geez, I should have
- 38:21Speaker 1: just bought one. Well, she offered to make me one
- 38:22Speaker 1: with Arch and I thought I might just go to
- 38:24Speaker 1: the experts for this one. Amy's got a bit on
- 38:26Speaker 1: at the moment to be making me a mobile. Well,
- 38:29Speaker 1: talking about Amy, we did drop a bonus episode on
- 38:32Speaker 1: Wednesday where she goes into her birth story. So if
- 38:35Speaker 1: you haven't listened to that, Mo, go give it a listen.
- 38:38Speaker 1: We also dropped a subs episode on Thursday where we
- 38:41Speaker 1: discussed a post that went viral in our group, Kate,
- 38:44Speaker 1: and it was off the back of some comments you
- 38:46Speaker 1: made about bar tabs and whether you should have alcoholic kids'
- 38:49Speaker 1: birthday parties. We also spoke about Steph Clare Smith's son
- 38:53Speaker 1: Harvey's recent birthday and our thoughts around that. We also
- 38:56Speaker 1: have an update on the Jojo Siwa-Kath Ebbs drama, Been
- 39:00Speaker 1: a lot said online about a business class flight. Katia
- 39:03Speaker 1: Milan's also involved. Also some paparazzi shots of Kath appearing
- 39:07Speaker 1: to kiss a male friend. So it is all going down.
- 39:10Speaker 1: You can check that out on our subs channel. That
- 39:13Speaker 1: is all we have time for today, though. Thank you
- 39:15Speaker 1: so much for joining us for this episode. We all
- 39:17Speaker 1: hope you have an incredible weekend. This episode was recorded
- 39:20Speaker 1: on the traditional land of the Kaurna people of the
- 39:22Speaker 1: Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders past and present.
