- 0:25I'm Matt from Cicadastone. We have a new album out today actually called Future
- 0:32Echoes and we're super excited. Yeautiful, Matt. Thanks for joining us today,
- 0:36brother, thanks so my pleasure. So, as you say, your
- 0:40new album, Future Echoes lands today made the thirty first mate. So how
- 0:45does it feel to finally have it out there ready for mass consumption? Oh,
- 0:49I'm so relieved. It's just been in such a journey, like you
- 0:51know, any band will know, you know, from the process of writing,
- 0:56through the pre production, through the record, through to mixing, mastering,
- 1:02releasing. It's it's you know, it takes a long time. And
- 1:06to get to the point where we can finally put it out there and put
- 1:10it to bed, so to speak, let it go. It's it's great.
- 1:12It's a good thing. We can move on too, you know as
- 1:15a band. Yeah, it's true. And this is your third album overall.
- 1:19Mate, So there's a process get easier or harder as you go along.
- 1:23You think it would get easier, but I think it's getting harder.
- 1:26You know, Like we all have lives, you know, we all we're
- 1:29all busy and we all do things. And I'd love to say we're making
- 1:32a living out of music. But we're not. We're just we just the
- 1:36band is is its own entity which we bought heartened Soul into. But that
- 1:44said, you know, people, we all have lives to live, and
- 1:48so this for this record, it was just really hard to just lock everyone
- 1:52down, you know, just to find time when we could, and I
- 1:56reckon it took a good year, longer than it probably should have. But
- 1:59that's that's just how went and and it is what it is true that and
- 2:04you're also releasing the single Take the Fall today, bro, So why that
- 2:07song to represent the album on release day? Say that again? Sorry?
- 2:10Miss that white? Choose that album to represent? Sorry? Why choose that
- 2:15song to represent the album on release day? Well, I mean it's it's
- 2:21a funny one because I didn't actually really think it was a song to be
- 2:24chosen for that sort of a role, but our label certainly pushed to that
- 2:30point and they saw it as a as a good single. But I mean,
- 2:35it's got a catchy chorus. I guess it just for me, It
- 2:37just didn't really jump out as a as a song that would be a single,
- 2:39but here it is. Well, you can't really argue with Jim can
- 2:44you he's got runs on the No, you can't argue with Tim. And
- 2:49you've also got two other singles from the album, in the Crossfire and Last
- 2:52in Line. So would you say all three of those together are a good
- 2:54side of representation of what to expect. Yeah, I think so. I
- 2:58think they're definitely the more you know, they've got the they've got the radio
- 3:01friendly choruses. I guess you'd say at the end of the day, But
- 3:05they do show. All three songs show a bit of light and shade in
- 3:08their own way, and they do represent aspects of this record quite well.
- 3:14Yeah, tell us about the rest of the album then, from musical point
- 3:16of view, bro, Like, how would you sum it up? And
- 3:19then what are you going for with it? While there's some songs that are
- 3:22heavier, there's some songs that are a little bit lighter, there's a bit
- 3:25of a there's a bit of an act, couple of songs that have a
- 3:28bit more acoustic flavor to them. I don't know if there was any sort
- 3:30of angle I was going for. It's just you just write songs, you
- 3:34know, and and and what comes out what comes out at the time.
- 3:37For me, I certainly I think I've said this in the past. I
- 3:40certainly leaned on our two previous records for just Feel and Vibe and and I
- 3:46think this album is a bit of a blend of both in that respect,
- 3:51It's got a bit more commercial appeal, but it's also got some dark elements
- 3:53too. Now, the cover art is pretty awesome, bro, featuring a
- 3:58child in a gas mask colding yellow balloons. So it looks awesome, but
- 4:02what's it What sort of landscapers are China paint? Yeah, well, it's
- 4:06funny because the the streaming release, the online release is just the it's just
- 4:13that further. But the the CD and vinyl, when we do the vinyl
- 4:16actually folds out to like a three panel picture and that's in the center,
- 4:20the picture in the center, And so the first picture is like showing the
- 4:25past, which is lush greenery, and then it shows the future, which
- 4:29is you know, apocalyptic fucking mayhem. So you know, I guess,
- 4:34And it comes back to Future Echoes of the choices that we make. You
- 4:38know, how we said this is your third album, bro, So how
- 4:43would you say the music on Future Echoes difference to that from your debut album,
- 4:46Chance Collide. Oh look, I think, like I said, you
- 4:50know, I feel like I borrowed aspects of Chance Collide and Cold Chamber,
- 4:55But I do think it's we're more refined band. I think the songs are
- 4:59they've had a little more time to be just fleshed out a bit. I
- 5:02think the production is a step better and the all in all, I just
- 5:09think it's it's just a slick of production in all aspects. And your three
- 5:14albums have come in four year cycles, with Chance Collide coming out in twenty
- 5:17sixteen, Cold Chamber I mean twenty twenty, and now Future Echoes in twenty
- 5:21twenty four. So is that by design or just coincidence. It's coincidence,
- 5:27Covid had a bit to do with it, and I would definitely be saying
- 5:30the next album after Future Echoes is already well in its way being written,
- 5:36and I'd like to be pumping that out much sooner than twenty twenty eight.
- 5:44Listening to your music, bro like it is heavily entrenched in the grunge type
- 5:47rockland. Really it's come in and out of favor over the years, mate,
- 5:50So as a band, have you ever tried to keep up with the
- 5:53changing trends of music? Like that or have you just followed your own path
- 5:56and like, Ahna, I mean I never left nine to ninety four,
- 6:00so I'm still there, still in high school. Yeah, I look,
- 6:03I think at the end of the day, you know, we we write
- 6:06songs, We make music for us. That's really obvious because we're certainly not
- 6:13trying to keep up with any trends. We're just we're just making the songs
- 6:15we like to make and if anyone digs it, that's great. Well.
- 6:20So along those lines, how much musical growth would you say there is left
- 6:25in Cicada Stone. There's a bit to explore, you know. I think
- 6:29any band, any band, has to change in order to to stay relevant.
- 6:35And even though I don't think we're very relevant, being stuck in the
- 6:40nineties, but as relevant as we can be. You know, I think
- 6:44each album's taken on a slight form of its own. It's slowly developing and
- 6:46changing, and and I think that the next set of songs that we've we've
- 6:50been working on they have a darker appeal again, and there's a bit there's
- 6:55a bit more like just drop B tuning and interesting things we haven't done before,
- 7:00which is really cool. So you know, I think we'll do this
- 7:02until we can't until until there's no point, until we don't have anything.
- 7:05Let's to say. Now, with the album coming out, bro, I'm
- 7:11guessing that there's going to be some launch parties. I wish, you know,
- 7:15we didn't get really at time. I wanted to do something tonight,
- 7:17you know, and but we just didn't really get time to organize anything.
- 7:20So tomorrow night is sorry tonight, let me start that again. Let me
- 7:26start that all against I'll let that out talking about today. So yeah,
- 7:31so look, you know, I wanted to organize something for last night,
- 7:34but we just didn't get time. So tonight is the night we're going to
- 7:38have a big bash and we're just going to celebrate, put out a good
- 7:42record, and enjoy it. Ye're easy, my friend. Well, thanks
- 7:45for your time that I might be a pleasure speech with you. Mate.
- 7:47The album is out today and it's called Future Echoes and a fucking Rocks,
- 7:51So best to luck, my friend. Thanks mate, thanks for the time,
