- 0:12Hello friends. Sean here.
- 0:14Lovely to have your company this morning on this Tuesday.
- 0:18I hope you're going well. Me, Huh.
- 0:22I'm sure I'm going very well right now.
- 0:23He's listening to this deep, deep in the wild, listening to
- 0:27those beautiful birds fill my ears, but nothing to do but put
- 0:31one foot in front of the other and not trip.
- 0:35I can live with that. I hope you're going well, as
- 0:38today we continue reading through this final section of
- 0:42Isaiah and you'd remember. Well, you may not.
- 0:45It's been a long time that we've been spending in Isaiah, as I
- 0:49started way back, way back in the land of Israel, when God's
- 0:53people were doing the wrong thing and God was urging them to
- 0:57do otherwise and follow his lead.
- 0:59And then they were sent into exile, far away in Babylon where
- 1:02God spoke his comfort. And now, generations later under
- 1:07the Persians, they have returned to their promised land in
- 1:10Israel. And this is where as they come
- 1:14back, they look to the future. What does it look like to be
- 1:17God's people? And so Isaiah shares God's words
- 1:21to him about their future. And you were going to hear,
- 1:24particularly today, a lot of talk about Zion, Zion.
- 1:28Zion is a lot of things, really. Zion is a hill, a mountain.
- 1:33Well, not really a big mountain, but it's a it's an elevated
- 1:37piece of land just outside of the old Jerusalem city walls.
- 1:41This is the original city of David that they came in and took
- 1:44over from their enemies, and that was their stronghold and
- 1:48their fortress. Zion is this place, physical
- 1:52place of great significance, but it's it's also this city of
- 1:55David, you know, the the place where the lineage of Jesus comes
- 1:59from. It's also the place referred to
- 2:02in Revelation and the future where Jesus will rule from as he
- 2:06rules Earth eternally. And it's also used to describe
- 2:12the eternal city of Jerusalem, God's final resting place for
- 2:16these people. So Zion is this incredibly rich
- 2:19term, not just a place, but an eternal setting of hope and
- 2:25transformation. And today Isaiah is going to
- 2:28share God's words all about what will happen to this place of
- 2:34Zion. So join me as we read together
- 2:37Isaiah Chapter 62. Because I love Zion, I will not
- 2:53keep still because my heart yearns for Jerusalem.
- 2:57I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her
- 3:02until her righteousness shines like the dawn and her salvation
- 3:06blazes like a burning torch. The nations will see your
- 3:10righteousness. World leaders will be blinded by
- 3:13your glory, and you will be given a new name by the Lord's
- 3:17own mouth. The Lord will hold you in his
- 3:20hand for all to see, a splendid crown in the hand of God.
- 3:26Never again will you be called the forsaken city or the
- 3:30desolate land. Your new name will be the city
- 3:35of God's delight and the bride of God, for the Lord delights in
- 3:40you and will claim you as His bride.
- 3:43Your children will commit themselves to you, O Jerusalem,
- 3:47just as a young man commits himself to his bride.
- 3:50Then God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over
- 3:55His bride. Oh Jerusalem, I have posted
- 3:59Watchmen along your walls. They will pray day and night
- 4:04continually. Take no rest.
- 4:07All of you who pray to the Lord give the Lord no rest until he
- 4:11completes his work, until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the
- 4:16earth. The Lord has sworn to Jerusalem
- 4:19by his own strength. I will never again hand you over
- 4:23to your enemies. Never again will foreign
- 4:27warriors come and take away your grain and new wine.
- 4:31You raise the grain and you will eat it, praising the Lord within
- 4:36the courtyards of the temple. You yourself will drink the wine
- 4:40you have pressed, Go out through the gates, Prepare the highway
- 4:45for my people to return. Smooth out the road, pull out
- 4:49the boulders. Raise a flag for all the nations
- 4:52to see. The Lord has sent this message
- 4:55to every land. Tell the people of Israel, look,
- 5:01your saviour is coming. See, He brings his reward with
- 5:05him as he comes. They will be called the holy
- 5:10people, and the people redeemed by the Lord.
- 5:14And Jerusalem will be known as the desirable place, and the
- 5:18city no longer forsaken. Lord, thank you that you have
- 5:35this great heart for us, your people.
- 5:39And as you share these words through Isaiah so long ago, it
- 5:43can ring out true and loud and so encouraging to us that as you
- 5:49return in your glory and victory, you bring with you what
- 5:54you call your reward. And that's us.
- 5:59That's us. You do all of this.
- 6:02You do all of this work of restoration so that you can be
- 6:09close to us, and that is just the most amazing thing for which
- 6:16we are so grateful. And we praise you, our
- 6:20wonderful, saving God, who reaches out and shapes all of
- 6:26creation toward that singular goal, to share your presence and
- 6:31your glory with us. Here we are.
- 6:34Lord, Your grateful people love you when we praise you all.
- 6:38In the name of Jesus, Amen.
