- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome to opposition territory.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Here at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:28Speaker 2: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:32Speaker 2: years strong.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We got a great discussion, a.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Great pre game preview podcast show coming your way, as
- 0:37Speaker 2: we're gonna be diving into this upcoming Philadelphia Eagles and
- 0:41Speaker 2: New York Giants game on Thursday night. Oh my gosh,
- 0:45Speaker 2: it's gonna be Uh, it's gonna be an interesting one. Really,
- 0:47Speaker 2: it's gonna be an interesting one, I think in a
- 0:49Speaker 2: lot of different ways. Jeff Warren, I am here with
- 0:52Speaker 2: my buddy from Big Blue View dot com. He is
- 0:55Speaker 2: a contributor over there, Chris Flum. How are you doing,
- 0:57Speaker 2: my buddy.
- 0:59Speaker 3: I would say, all things considered, I'm doing well enough.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Okay, it was a tough loss this past week for
- 1:07Speaker 2: you guys. I mean, really the game you guys probably
- 1:10Speaker 2: should have won, right.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I've been saying that a lot this year. Yeah, this
- 1:15Speaker 3: one in particular. I don't think I've ever seen a
- 1:17Speaker 3: team go from dominant to disastrous that quickly.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's It has been an interesting year in the
- 1:24Speaker 2: NFL for not just the New York Giants and the.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, but all around.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I mean, you saw what happened last night Sunday Night
- 1:32Speaker 2: Football with the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I don't think any of us thought for a second
- 1:37Speaker 2: now that the New England Patriots would go into Buffalo
- 1:40Speaker 2: and beat them in their house. This type of season
- 1:44Speaker 2: is really bizarre.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Here, Chris, absolutely, and I was even going down to
- 1:48Speaker 3: college if with all the others upsets the college ranks
- 1:51Speaker 3: have been having it. It has been a weird.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Year right here, right here, right here. Oh my gosh,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:57Speaker 3: My sister went to Penn State too.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yep, it's been a rough It's been a rough, like
- 2:02Speaker 2: week or two here the world of Philly sports in
- 2:05Speaker 2: certain ways and being a Penn State fan. But look,
- 2:08Speaker 2: let's get into this preview here. I could chat with
- 2:09Speaker 2: you forever about what's going on in the world of sports,
- 2:12Speaker 2: but I first wanted to dive into, Chris, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 2: the type of year that it has been for the
- 2:17Speaker 2: New York Giants. They're one in four heading into week six. Here,
- 2:21Speaker 2: I'm wondering, what's if you had one word to summarize
- 2:24Speaker 2: this New York Giants season, what would that one word
- 2:27Speaker 2: be and.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Why Okay, I would have to go with frustrating, and
- 2:33Speaker 3: the reason is because the Giants are better than their
- 2:37Speaker 3: record says they are. They have more talent than you
- 2:41Speaker 3: would expect from a team that has only cracked twenty
- 2:45Speaker 3: points once. Yeah, this year, right up until Malik Neighbors
- 2:48Speaker 3: got hurt, I would say they were pretty much set
- 2:51Speaker 3: at the four cornerstone positions. Jackson Dart has been impressive
- 2:55Speaker 3: since his very first preseason game. The offensive line has
- 2:59Speaker 3: been bad for the first time in a long time.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So like, they should be better than a one and
- 3:05Speaker 3: four record. Yeah, they were right in it right up
- 3:08Speaker 3: until about the second half of the fourth quarter against Washington.
- 3:12Speaker 3: They should have beaten Dallas. They were right in it
- 3:16Speaker 3: with the Kansas City Chiefs, and then they beat the Chargers,
- 3:19Speaker 3: and then they were dominant in the first quarter and
- 3:24Speaker 3: a half of the game against the Saints, and then
- 3:28Speaker 3: were again right into it until they had five consecutive
- 3:34Speaker 3: drives and in turnovers against the Saints. So it's just
- 3:38Speaker 3: for so many reasons they should be better than they
- 3:42Speaker 3: have been, but they just cannot get out of their
- 3:44Speaker 3: own way, and that is the most frustrating thing. It
- 3:47Speaker 3: would be fine, well, not fine, but understandable if they
- 3:50Speaker 3: were just not talented or if they were just bad.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But they aren't. They've got so many flashes of good play,
- 3:59Speaker 3: and they've got talented players, and they just keep finding
- 4:04Speaker 3: ways to lose.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's frustrating obviously for Giants fans, But I think
- 4:08Speaker 2: this year throughout the NFL, as we are now seeing
- 4:11Speaker 2: there's no undefeated team anymore in the NFL. The Bills,
- 4:15Speaker 2: like I mentioned last night, were the last and they
- 4:18Speaker 2: ended up faltering against the New England Patriots.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I think inconsistency is happening a lot throughout the league.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You look at the Philadelphia Eagles too.
- 4:26Speaker 2: This is a team that will be dominant one half,
- 4:29Speaker 2: putting up two hundred and fifty some yards, and then
- 4:32Speaker 2: thirty yards the next half. It is so bizarre, and
- 4:35Speaker 2: it's happening consistently with the Philadelphia Eagles. Just what happened
- 4:39Speaker 2: this past week. Eagles are up by two scores on
- 4:42Speaker 2: the Denver Broncos and they let the Broncos come back
- 4:44Speaker 2: because of offensive in my opinion, play calling more so
- 4:47Speaker 2: than inconsistency. But the offense just wasn't able to get
- 4:50Speaker 2: it done, and the play calling was absolutely horrendous. I
- 4:53Speaker 2: think we're seeing a lot of inconsistencies throughout the NFL,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and I think for both the Giants and the Eagles,
- 4:58Speaker 2: as we're moving along with this preview show, I mean
- 5:02Speaker 2: that that could potentially be one of the one of
- 5:04Speaker 2: the catalysts for you know, who is gonna win and
- 5:06Speaker 2: who's gonna lose this upcoming match up here. So I
- 5:09Speaker 2: really want to get into the strengths and weaknesses of
- 5:12Speaker 2: the New York Giants because we always like to talk
- 5:16Speaker 2: about that on our opposition territory shows here, whoever team
- 5:19Speaker 2: the Eagles are facing that week, let's talk about the
- 5:21Speaker 2: biggest strength of the team, the biggest weakness of the
- 5:25Speaker 2: team here. So let's get into the biggest strength of
- 5:27Speaker 2: the New York Giants after five weeks of play, Chris,
- 5:30Speaker 2: what is that? And uh, you know what, what can
- 5:33Speaker 2: you describe to us with regard to that strength?
- 5:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the defensive line, just straight up, that is
- 5:42Speaker 3: the strength of the team right now. Cifically, those three
- 5:47Speaker 3: Brian Burns gave on Thibeau, abdu Carter, obviously you got
- 5:51Speaker 3: Dexter Lawrence inside and then a rotation you know, next
- 5:55Speaker 3: two in a round of behind him. Every offensive line
- 5:59Speaker 3: has to their a game against the Giants, and the
- 6:02Speaker 3: offensive coordinator needs to have a plan to get the
- 6:06Speaker 3: ball out of his quarterback's hand quickly. Yeah, Yet the
- 6:11Speaker 3: Giants run defense hasn't been good right up until the
- 6:15Speaker 3: game against the Saints. It was the worst in the league.
- 6:17Speaker 3: But that has less to do with their defensive front
- 6:19Speaker 3: and more about just the execution behind them, which is
- 6:23Speaker 3: something we'll get into later. But that defensive front, they
- 6:29Speaker 3: can apply pressure from everywhere. They can do so quickly.
- 6:33Speaker 3: They can do it with power, they can do it
- 6:34Speaker 3: with speed, they can do with technique, and they're also
- 6:37Speaker 3: for the most part athletic enough where they can drop
- 6:40Speaker 3: into coverage as well, so you can never be quite
- 6:43Speaker 3: sure who's coming and who isn't if we're talking about
- 6:47Speaker 3: secondary strengths. Weirdly, despite having a three turnover game, I
- 6:52Speaker 3: would actually say Jackson Dart right now. As I mentioned before,
- 6:56Speaker 3: he has been really impressive, still a long ways away.
- 7:01Speaker 3: There's a lot of he has his rookie moments. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 3: there are technical things you see on film that he
- 7:10Speaker 3: I honestly would have liked to have seen him iron
- 7:12Speaker 3: out before he gets moved into the starting job, but
- 7:15Speaker 3: that was a coach's decision, so okay, got to live
- 7:20Speaker 3: with that then.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 3: But his poise, the way that he never really seems overwhelmed. Yeah,
- 7:28Speaker 3: even if he's under pressure, he has a very good
- 7:31Speaker 3: command of the pocket. He can make defenders miss and
- 7:34Speaker 3: either extend the play pick up yards with his legs,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and he's accurate, and he has a strong arm, and
- 7:40Speaker 3: he has that baseball background so he can throw off platforms,
- 7:44Speaker 3: so he has a lot of tools that the Giants
- 7:49Speaker 3: haven't really had available to them before. Yeah, it's not
- 7:54Speaker 3: kind of like the Eli Manning heyday, where if you
- 7:58Speaker 3: go into the fourth quarter basically with in seven points
- 8:04Speaker 3: of the other team, you kind of calm down. You feel, Okay,
- 8:06Speaker 3: we are not out of this. In fact, we've got
- 8:08Speaker 3: a pretty much chance. Yeah, but it's Dart does kind
- 8:13Speaker 3: of it feels like there's something there. Yeah, it feels
- 8:16Speaker 3: like he can be a reason why you win and
- 8:19Speaker 3: not just a player you win with.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It's a different vibe than Daniel Jones for sure. I mean,
- 8:23Speaker 2: just in this very very short period of time that
- 8:26Speaker 2: we've seen Jackson Dart on the field, I mean, it
- 8:28Speaker 2: is a it's definitely different what about the biggest weakness
- 8:32Speaker 2: coming into this that you know this week? Here, what
- 8:35Speaker 2: do you think that biggest weakness of the Giants is
- 8:38Speaker 2: right now?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Wide receiver personnel? What the personnel weakness is wide receiver?
- 8:44Speaker 3: Malik Neighbors towards acl he's done. Darius Slayton heard his
- 8:48Speaker 3: hamstring against the Saints. I sincerely we haven't gotten word,
- 8:52Speaker 3: but I sincerely doubt he will be ready to go
- 8:55Speaker 3: against the Eagles in three days.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Behind him, you've got Wandale Robinson, who is a nice player.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I like him. He is more than just a gadget player,
- 9:03Speaker 3: but he is still a five foot eight former running back.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And then you have Jalen Hyatt, who has completely forgotten
- 9:12Speaker 3: how to play football ever since winning the Bolitnikoff Award
- 9:14Speaker 3: at Tennessee. Uh for everything I thought, Yeah, everything I
- 9:20Speaker 3: thought was his strength on tape as a prospect has
- 9:24Speaker 3: turned out to not be a strength. And then basically,
- 9:29Speaker 3: you know, the things left is Gunroll Chefsky there kick
- 9:32Speaker 3: and punt returner who can do things with the ball
- 9:34Speaker 3: in his hands, but again not a guy you want starting.
- 9:37Speaker 3: And Bo Collins, an undrafted rookie who has since the
- 9:41Speaker 3: start of preseason been the target of three interceptions because
- 9:44Speaker 3: he screwed up the route. So yeah, I would say,
- 9:47Speaker 3: right how wide receiver is a desolate wasteland for the Giants.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Okay, that's a great way to put it there, Chris,
- 9:56Speaker 2: But look, you touched on Jackson Dart. I want to
- 9:59Speaker 2: get into the quarterback position a bit here from what
- 10:02Speaker 2: you've seen over these past couple of games, And to
- 10:05Speaker 2: be honest with you, like you said, you know, it
- 10:07Speaker 2: hasn't been terrible by any stretch of the imagination. Jackson
- 10:09Speaker 2: Dart in the pocket has not necessarily been terrible. But
- 10:12Speaker 2: I do feel bad. I feel bad for rookie quarterbacks
- 10:16Speaker 2: that have to put so much on their shoulders that
- 10:19Speaker 2: first season as they're trying to learn the offense. But
- 10:22Speaker 2: they're just trying to learn how the game and the
- 10:24Speaker 2: speed of the NFL is playing out right in front
- 10:28Speaker 2: of them, and so far is doing not a bad job.
- 10:32Speaker 2: It's got to be incredibly difficult. Look, he definitely looked
- 10:35Speaker 2: like a rookie in what I saw this past week
- 10:38Speaker 2: against the Saints, and a game again the Giants really
- 10:42Speaker 2: should have won. So I'm wondering you were talking about
- 10:45Speaker 2: Jackson Dart as as being a positive on this team
- 10:50Speaker 2: just a few minutes ago, how would you assess, if
- 10:52Speaker 2: you can get in maybe a little more detail, how
- 10:54Speaker 2: would you assess where he's at over these past couple
- 10:56Speaker 2: weeks and again maybe getting into some of those strengths
- 10:59Speaker 2: and weaknesses.
- 11:01Speaker 3: I think he is further ahead than some people expected.
- 11:06Speaker 3: You know, it was coming out of Ole Miss. He
- 11:09Speaker 3: he was pretty widely expected to be a player who
- 11:12Speaker 3: was going to need a year like a solid red
- 11:14Speaker 3: shirt ear yep. I believe he is processing the game
- 11:19Speaker 3: a lot more quickly and efficient. Efficiently isn't quite the
- 11:25Speaker 3: quite the right word, but close enough then people expected.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I think coming out of that lane Kiffen offense, he's
- 11:32Speaker 3: a lot has a lot higher football like you than
- 11:34Speaker 3: people gave him credit for at Ole Miss. Yeah, you
- 11:39Speaker 3: can see him go through his progressions. You can see
- 11:42Speaker 3: him make decisions pretty quickly. He's been decisive and he's
- 11:46Speaker 3: made generally good decisions, like even other than when not
- 11:53Speaker 3: not to slide and the way he occasionally carries the ball,
- 11:57Speaker 3: he has been decisive and just smart in how he
- 12:02Speaker 3: makes his decisions, Like he typically doesn't put the football
- 12:07Speaker 3: in harm's way, which is a weird thing to say
- 12:10Speaker 3: after he had three turnovers. But again, I wouldn't really
- 12:15Speaker 3: put too many of the too much of that on
- 12:17Speaker 3: him other than just ball security carrying it. I wouldn't
- 12:20Speaker 3: even carry a loaf of bread like that. But yeah, again, that's.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Do you think that's his biggest weakness here at this point,
- 12:27Speaker 2: even though it's yeah, yeah, just kind of the way
- 12:31Speaker 2: he yeah, kind of the way that that he is
- 12:33Speaker 2: holding that ball out there like a loaf of bread
- 12:35Speaker 2: at times, like you're saying.
- 12:37Speaker 3: That, But that definitely is a weakness. That is, I
- 12:39Speaker 3: would say, kind of the almost the Devil May Care
- 12:43Speaker 3: way that he plays. Like he and camp Scadboo have
- 12:48Speaker 3: the exact same running style. He would rather run through
- 12:52Speaker 3: you than around you, right, And that's that's the thing
- 12:56Speaker 3: that's going to have to change. He has recognized that
- 12:59Speaker 3: it's going to have to change, and he has seemed
- 13:01Speaker 3: to improve quickly. I would say, from like a mental standpoint,
- 13:07Speaker 3: his biggest weakness has been that it isn't so much
- 13:10Speaker 3: that the game is too fast for him, but sometimes
- 13:12Speaker 3: he gets going faster than the game, which, yeah, that's
- 13:15Speaker 3: one of the things I noticed.
- 13:18Speaker 1: JT.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Osullivan runs the quarterback school on YouTube, he's pointed out
- 13:22Speaker 3: dart hesitancy to like rather than take a proper three
- 13:26Speaker 3: five step drop, he kind of shuffles backwards and doesn't
- 13:29Speaker 3: really sink his feet up with his receiver's routes so
- 13:32Speaker 3: he can get through his progressions before routes develop. So
- 13:41Speaker 3: in some ways he needs to slow down to the
- 13:44Speaker 3: speed of the game sometimes, which again it's a rookie thing.
- 13:48Speaker 3: You're he's having to develop on the job, which, like
- 13:52Speaker 3: you said, that's a rough thing.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It absolutely is a rough thing. But you know, so far,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you know, he hasn't been a complete and utter bust
- 14:01Speaker 2: for the New York Giants, not at all. And it's
- 14:04Speaker 2: gonna be it's gonna be interesting going up against this
- 14:06Speaker 2: Eagles defense, this Eagles defense that certainly is not in
- 14:10Speaker 2: any way, shape or form a dominant defense this year
- 14:14Speaker 2: as we have seen, not a terrible defense.
- 14:16Speaker 1: But we're gonna get into some trenches talk in just
- 14:19Speaker 1: a bit.
- 14:20Speaker 2: But before we take a break here, Chris, can you
- 14:23Speaker 2: tell everybody where they can find you on social We
- 14:25Speaker 2: know you're over at Big Blue view dot com. We
- 14:27Speaker 2: love our sp nation sites, but let folks know where
- 14:30Speaker 2: they can follow you on the interwebs out there.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Well, I technically still have a Twitter account at raptor MkII,
- 14:38Speaker 3: but I have just not used it since it went
- 14:41Speaker 3: down three times during the draft.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, so.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I'm pretty much you go over on bluesk all of
- 14:50Speaker 3: my time anymore over on blue Sky, which is raptor
- 14:54Speaker 3: MkII dot blue sky dot social.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, very good.
- 14:58Speaker 2: All right, And folks, if you would like to follow

- 15:15Speaker 2: in general. We're also on various social media sites as well, Instagram, Twitter,

- 15:36Speaker 2: When we come back, we've got more of our Eagles
- 15:38Speaker 2: in Giants pregame preview shows stick with us, all right,
- 15:43Speaker 2: we are back and we are with our good friend
- 15:46Speaker 2: Chris Flum from Big Blue View dot com.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Great great site, great great content.
- 15:51Speaker 2: If you're looking at some NFC East rival content, I
- 15:55Speaker 2: do want to get into now the trenches. It's gonna
- 15:58Speaker 2: be a battle of the trench? Is this Thursday night here?
- 16:01Speaker 2: I wonder how this is really going to end up
- 16:03Speaker 2: playing out because the Eagles are having some major issues
- 16:06Speaker 2: within the interior of their offensive line. As many know,
- 16:10Speaker 2: Landon Dickerson he's been nursing a back injury since training camp.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Now he's got an ankle injury as well. His backup
- 16:17Speaker 2: Brett Toath. He's an average blocker out there, an average
- 16:20Speaker 2: O lineman, but not killing it for sure. Their center
- 16:25Speaker 2: Cam Jurgens is also recovering from his back surgery in
- 16:29Speaker 2: the offseason. Just a lot of inconsistencies. Also, with Tyler
- 16:32Speaker 2: Steen really trying to settle into his starting role for
- 16:35Speaker 2: the first time as the Eagles right guard, I'm wondering,
- 16:38Speaker 2: how do you see the Giants defensive front really stacking
- 16:41Speaker 2: up against the Eagles offensive line this week? Chris, Because
- 16:45Speaker 2: the offensive line has quote technically been kind of a
- 16:49Speaker 2: weakness of the Philadelphia Eagles, it's been inconsistent, to say
- 16:52Speaker 2: the least.
- 16:53Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here?
- 16:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I definitely agree. Other than, you know, whether or
- 16:59Speaker 3: not the Giant can get their passing game going, this
- 17:01Speaker 3: will be where the game is won or lost.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Yeah, we're still kind of waiting for Dexter Lawrence to
- 17:08Speaker 3: play like all Caps Dexter Lawrence. Again. Yeah, he has
- 17:13Speaker 3: been and he has been a factor. He's been impactful,
- 17:17Speaker 3: but he hasn't taken a game over just yet, you know,
- 17:21Speaker 3: other than you know, almost having a thick six against
- 17:25Speaker 3: the Chargers, you know, last week. But yeah, he hasn't
- 17:30Speaker 3: been just dominating double teams quite the way he has been. Yeah,
- 17:36Speaker 3: I'm personally going to be interested to see how the
- 17:39Speaker 3: Giants make use of Abdul Carter, you know, with the
- 17:43Speaker 3: uh the mobility threat that Jalen Hurts has while they
- 17:47Speaker 3: use him as a spy, UH, have him show pressure,
- 17:50Speaker 3: back off, use him as an edge rusher.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Uh.
- 17:53Speaker 3: That I think is going to be very interesting to see. Uh.
- 17:57Speaker 3: On the outside, Kevon Tipbeau, Brian Burns, they both added
- 18:01Speaker 3: power aspects to their games. And yeah, the Eagles have
- 18:07Speaker 3: I believe they still have the biggest offensive line in
- 18:11Speaker 3: the NFL, I think so.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Yeah, So it will be interesting to see how if
- 18:17Speaker 3: the Giants try to win with speed or if they
- 18:20Speaker 3: try to constrict that offensive line the way the Broncos
- 18:24Speaker 3: were kind of able to. You just try to hold
- 18:28Speaker 3: their blocks, keep Jalen Hurts in the pocket, and then
- 18:31Speaker 3: just try to crush it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not that isn't exactly how the Giants are built.
- 18:38Speaker 3: You know, they really are kind of built to win
- 18:41Speaker 3: with speed and bend on the outside and then kind
- 18:45Speaker 3: of force guys up to Dexter Lawrence, Darius Alexander recruit
- 18:49Speaker 3: Uh Nacho, I'm I can already tell I'm gonna trip
- 18:53Speaker 3: over his full name.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I don't worry about it.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Luckie Munaz, Roach has uh the various other guys they
- 19:01Speaker 3: have in the middle there. So I I think it's
- 19:06Speaker 3: going to be an interesting matchup between the speed the
- 19:11Speaker 3: Giants have on the especially the outside of their defense
- 19:13Speaker 3: off the edges, and just the power the Eagles have. Yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and I'm kind of not sure which way it's going
- 19:22Speaker 3: to go. Yeah, because again, like you said, the Eagles
- 19:25Speaker 3: offensive line has been not a strength.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Right Evenorando, So yeah, even Jordan By a lot of
- 19:32Speaker 2: this past week was having some issues. He was getting
- 19:35Speaker 2: driven right into the backfield, getting driven right into jail
- 19:38Speaker 2: and hurts at times. It was kind of bizarre to see,
- 19:40Speaker 2: and it's bizarre to see what's been happening with this
- 19:42Speaker 2: Eagles offensive line for sure. But I also want to
- 19:46Speaker 2: talk about, you know, what we might see from the
- 19:48Speaker 2: Giants defense in terms of their secondary here, because one
- 19:52Speaker 2: of the themes coming into this past week's game against
- 19:55Speaker 2: the Broncos with the Eagles was that AJ Brown, DeVante Smith,
- 19:59Speaker 2: Dallas Goddard like, let's get these weapons and these receivers going,
- 20:03Speaker 2: Let's get them going here, and they actually were able
- 20:06Speaker 2: to do it. You know, we didn't care for the
- 20:08Speaker 2: play calling too too much when it came down to it,
- 20:11Speaker 2: but AJ Brown, Davonte Smith, you know, they were able
- 20:15Speaker 2: to get going this past week and they were successful
- 20:17Speaker 2: in the passing game. The Eagles were in many ways. Again,
- 20:20Speaker 2: the offensive coaching been under a lot of scrutiny in Philadelphia,
- 20:23Speaker 2: and rightfully so. But now that that Aj Brown, DeVante Smith,
- 20:27Speaker 2: and Dallas Goddard have really kind of been ramped up
- 20:30Speaker 2: here after Week five, here, I'm wondering what level of
- 20:33Speaker 2: concern do you have for the Giant secondary and these
- 20:37Speaker 2: matchups heading into this Thursday night game.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I would say there's definitely concern because the Giant secondary
- 20:44Speaker 3: has not measured up to expectations. You know, they went out,
- 20:47Speaker 3: they got Pulson at Deabo, they got Javon Holland that
- 20:51Speaker 3: was supposed to really shore up the holes in their secondary, YEP,
- 20:55Speaker 3: replacing just a rotating cast at one cornerback spot. And
- 21:00Speaker 3: then Jason Pinnock who was fine at the safety position.
- 21:06Speaker 3: But Dabo and Holland have played reasonably well. The problem
- 21:12Speaker 3: is that Tyler nuben and Drew Phillips have been very inconsistent.
- 21:18Speaker 3: You know, there's that word again.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Yeah, they are playing much more like rookies than they
- 21:24Speaker 3: were when they were rookies. Yeah, they had you know,
- 21:27Speaker 3: Drew Phillips has either been fantastic or a flag magnet.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Tyler Nuban has been his general lack of athleticism. He's
- 21:37Speaker 3: a very smart player, but he is a limited athlete
- 21:40Speaker 3: that has shown up because his angles, his just understanding
- 21:46Speaker 3: of where he's supposed to be in coverage. Yeah, that
- 21:49Speaker 3: has either taken a step backward or they've added some
- 21:53Speaker 3: wrinkles and changes to the defense that he is just
- 21:57Speaker 3: not settling into them correctly. Yeah, So that I would
- 22:00Speaker 3: definitely say has been a concern. And then the other
- 22:03Speaker 3: cornerback position has just been weird to the Giants. They
- 22:06Speaker 3: have used a platoon at cornerback two with Cordell Flott
- 22:11Speaker 3: being the starter and then former first rounder Deontay Banks
- 22:14Speaker 3: coming in as an outside corner in Nickel packages.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which is weird.
- 22:20Speaker 3: And Banks has been I don't want to say he's
- 22:23Speaker 3: been terrible because there have been enough decent plays on
- 22:27Speaker 3: tape that don't get focus. Then I don't want to
- 22:30Speaker 3: drag him completely. It's just that when he fails, he
- 22:32Speaker 3: fails spectacularly.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Right, So I feel that with one former New York Giant,
- 22:40Speaker 2: and that is a Dori Jackson, if you'd like a
- 22:41Speaker 2: Dori Jackson back, we can actually provide that.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Nothing to you at this point.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Okay, but only if he comes packaged with aj Brown.
- 22:49Speaker 2: There we go, absolutely, there we go. Oh man, it
- 22:53Speaker 2: has been great talking to you, Chris. But before I
- 22:55Speaker 2: let you go, buddy, like we do here on our
- 22:58Speaker 2: Opposition Territory podcast every week with our pregame preview shows,
- 23:02Speaker 2: we talk about one thing that each team is going
- 23:05Speaker 2: to need to hit on for a win this week
- 23:07Speaker 2: against the other. So let's first start off with what's
- 23:10Speaker 2: the one thing the Giants are gonna need to hit
- 23:12Speaker 2: on for a win this week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Okay, putting Jalen Hurts on the ground aside, and slowing
- 23:21Speaker 3: down the running game aside, I'm going I have to
- 23:23Speaker 3: go with the passing game. They have to be able
- 23:25Speaker 3: to move the ball through the air, which I think
- 23:27Speaker 3: is going to come from the tight ends, which is
- 23:30Speaker 3: kind of weird to say for the Giants because they
- 23:32Speaker 3: tend to forget those exist. Yeah, but right now they're
- 23:36Speaker 3: two best receivers outside of Wandell Robinson are probably Theo
- 23:41Speaker 3: Johnson and Daniel Bellinger. Yeah, you know, THEO Johnson is
- 23:46Speaker 3: a big, you know, six to six almost two sixty
- 23:50Speaker 3: freakishly athletic tight end, former Penn State guy. But he
- 23:55Speaker 3: was raw coming out. He can he can stretch the field,
- 23:58Speaker 3: he can make tough catch is he just has to
- 24:01Speaker 3: do consistently. Daniel Bellinger is a lot more athletic than
- 24:04Speaker 3: people expect for a six five two and fifty pound
- 24:09Speaker 3: why tight end, But the Giants have basically since he
- 24:13Speaker 3: got poked in the eye as a rookie, forgotten he existed.
- 24:17Speaker 2: You know.
- 24:17Speaker 3: They went out and got Darren Waller and just fed
- 24:19Speaker 3: him the targets. Then they got THEO Johnson and fed
- 24:22Speaker 3: him the targets. And Bellinger catches everything thrown to him.
- 24:26Speaker 3: He just doesn't get it that often. But now they're
- 24:29Speaker 3: going to have to depend on those guys with again
- 24:32Speaker 3: the desolate wasteland out receiving corps yep. So I think
- 24:37Speaker 3: other than the defensive side of things, that's what they're
- 24:40Speaker 3: going to have to do, because otherwise it's going to
- 24:42Speaker 3: be too easy to focus on the run game with Campskataboo,
- 24:46Speaker 3: Jackson Dart. The Giants are expecting Tyrone Tracy back, but again,
- 24:51Speaker 3: that's They're not going to have success playing nineteen fifties
- 24:55Speaker 3: ball if they can't throw the football.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Right exactly exactly what to close this out here? What
- 25:01Speaker 2: are the Eagles going to need to hit on for
- 25:03Speaker 2: a win this week against the Giants? What are your
- 25:05Speaker 2: thoughts there?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Honestly, just play a clean game, yeah, yeah, don't if
- 25:10Speaker 3: they can avoid killing themselves with penalties, with turnovers, yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 3: with just giving away possessions or letting the Giants hang
- 25:21Speaker 3: around if they do score. I think that's really what
- 25:25Speaker 3: they need to do because I mentioned it before. Inconsistencies
- 25:29Speaker 3: just all over the Giants is have that has really
- 25:33Speaker 3: been their achilles heel this this year, but even longer really,
- 25:38Speaker 3: And you know that's leading to some very serious questions
- 25:42Speaker 3: at least around the fan base and the Giants media
- 25:45Speaker 3: ecosystem at with respective Brian Dabel's job so right now
- 25:51Speaker 3: that if you want to beat the Giants, just play clean.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yeah, this is going to be there.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Let's say it comes down to consistence, inconsistency and consistency.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I mean, it sounds so simple, but not so simple
- 26:06Speaker 2: in the NFL these days, folks. It's gonna do it
- 26:09Speaker 2: for us here on our Opposition Territory podcast and our
