- 0:20Speaker 1: I guess I'm getting used to it because getting jacked up.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But wow, yeah, I'm commented on it a little earlier
- 0:26Speaker 1: way muscles. You know here we are middle of winter.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Got another six inches the other day, but it just
- 0:32Speaker 1: wasn't It wasn't worth pulling out for this one. By
- 0:35Speaker 1: the way, I got my snowblower back finally. Yep. My
- 0:38Speaker 1: answer would still be that, because he's nothing but stubborn.
- 0:41Speaker 1: By the way, if anyone's wondering, what cares Eric is
- 0:44Speaker 1: not here, no one's noticed. Yeah, he's under the weather. Sorry,
- 0:48Speaker 1: he's actually playing word directed by Emmy nominated filmmaker Matthew Hamachek,
- 0:53Speaker 1: who did Tiger. Oh, of course, I thought Batissa had
- 0:56Speaker 1: gone out to get it. There he is. He's got
- 0:59Speaker 1: to get ready because MAT's going away from me. I
- 1:01Speaker 1: get nervous for him. I don't know. I don't wanted
- 1:02Speaker 1: them mess out, but apparently the show wasn't going out live.
- 1:05Speaker 1: We just recorded it for ourselves and it's just built different,
- 1:07Speaker 1: right tease, I used that properly, Diffy. Oh sorry, Diffy.
- 1:10Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:17Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Chillett's Stadium
- 1:21Speaker 1: and the gangs all back. Eric's back feeling better. I'm back. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: how are we doing? Eric? Okay, you're talking to your mother?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah every day. You weren't mad that she got you sick.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It really wasn't her that gout me sick. It was
- 1:36Speaker 1: somebody else that she was exposed to that got her sick.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, a little bit. Yeah, they're trying to
- 1:43Speaker 1: do and you know, came back to bite him. Yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but you know we're here made it. Lost some weight lost.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I lost ten pounds. I didn't have to lose, but wow, yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: you had a lot of water weight then yeah, yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and it was all gone. I lost. I lost five
- 1:59Speaker 1: pounds colonoscopy yesterday. I had a fast for I'm gonna
- 2:05Speaker 1: start doing one a week until I'm down to the
- 2:08Speaker 1: weight that I should. Sure. Yeah, it's a good diet. Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 1: is that he doing that for the next ten years?
- 2:15Speaker 1: The post colonoscopy meal. Is that like kind of a
- 2:17Speaker 1: big thing, like you're like, let's get let's go. Oh yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 1: yeah yeah. They said to wait a little bit before
- 2:27Speaker 1: you go hog wild. I go, okay, yeah, okay. Two
- 2:31Speaker 1: minutes later. Have you been a while? That's like two
- 2:32Speaker 1: hours later? Was about two minutes. I'm gonna need something.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna need a roast beef soon. Anyway. I think
- 2:40Speaker 1: the doctor just before I went out, I heard him
- 2:42Speaker 1: say something about liking it rough. I'm not sure. What
- 2:45Speaker 1: did you feel when you woke up. You're a little sore. Ye, No,
- 2:48Speaker 1: it's it's a very pleasant experience. You like a ball
- 2:51Speaker 1: gag on or something. You wake up and you feel
- 2:53Speaker 1: refrah what what? Yeah? All right? Five five past five
- 2:58Speaker 1: hundred is the as taken outline radio at Patriots dot com.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Is the email address talking all Patriots for the next
- 3:05Speaker 1: two hours and anything else NFL and whatever else we
- 3:09Speaker 1: feel like talking about, you know, but no new news
- 3:13Speaker 1: in terms of coaching and any of that. Now, yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 1: a couple of things. Um, you know, it seems like
- 3:19Speaker 1: was it Tommy Curran still kind of putting it out
- 3:22Speaker 1: there that Bill O'Brien might be in place. Still, Yeah,
- 3:24Speaker 1: a lot of putting out. A lot of people are
- 3:26Speaker 1: because a lot of people would just still incredulous there
- 3:29Speaker 1: this could be the plan, Well, I guess, but you know,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I would think that with Saban and Belichick's relationship, you know,
- 3:38Speaker 1: can you let me know sooner than later? Yeah, you know,
- 3:40Speaker 1: because I got a team to get ready, a season
- 3:42Speaker 1: to get ready for two. And one of the things
- 3:44Speaker 1: and I heard um Bert bre Are talking about this
- 3:47Speaker 1: yesterday on my station, which is that one of the
- 3:51Speaker 1: things that may have been a problem early on was
- 3:54Speaker 1: maybe Bill O'Brien wasn't really interested because I think he
- 3:56Speaker 1: had his eye on other things. And one of those
- 3:59Speaker 1: other things he speculated was the Michigan job when Jim
- 4:03Speaker 1: Harball was in the interview process. And now that Harball
- 4:06Speaker 1: is staying, come on, Harball, he's staying with Michigan, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: maybe now Billy Oh is more willing to make a move.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And Bert said that his family never joined him in Tuscaloosa,
- 4:20Speaker 1: but they're still in Houston, so it's not like they here, okay,
- 4:24Speaker 1: if they're in Houston. So I don't know if the
- 4:26Speaker 1: family part of it is as much of a sure
- 4:28Speaker 1: a poll as I originally expect I want to, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: because Bill O'Brien's been a head coach now in big,
- 4:35Speaker 1: big time college and the NFL. So what do you
- 4:38Speaker 1: like better? Like you've experienced both, Like what do you
- 4:41Speaker 1: like better? And you know, if you had a college
- 4:43Speaker 1: gig again, you wouldn't be being thrown into the teapot
- 4:47Speaker 1: like you were. And that was where had stayed. I mean,
- 4:49Speaker 1: he took over a terrible situation you did. And I
- 4:52Speaker 1: bring up the bert anecdote because I think you could
- 4:58Speaker 1: look at it, you could take a step back and say, well,
- 5:00Speaker 1: maybe he's still in play for the Patriots, and I
- 5:02Speaker 1: think that's accurate. I think until the door closes officially,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I think we're always gonna wonder. But I look at
- 5:08Speaker 1: it a different way from what you just said. Fred.
- 5:11Speaker 1: If he's still sort of thinking about college jobs everybody
- 5:14Speaker 1: as much as pro and he had his eye on
- 5:16Speaker 1: the Michigan job, then what you know, what would be
- 5:19Speaker 1: the better way for him to get one of those jobs?
- 5:22Speaker 1: Maybe just staying at out college because you don't see
- 5:24Speaker 1: a lot of colleges court NFL coaches right for those
- 5:27Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not saying it doesn't happen. They go
- 5:29Speaker 1: back and Saban did it. Obviously, you know Saban went
- 5:31Speaker 1: back and forth. Chip Kelly's gone back and forth. I'm
- 5:33Speaker 1: saying it doesn't happen. So I just wonder if maybe
- 5:39Speaker 1: he's more interested in college right now? Yeah? Yeah. Does
- 5:43Speaker 1: it feel weird if he did come back and you
- 5:45Speaker 1: still got Joe Judge here or is that? I don't know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: it just feels a little. I don't want to say
- 5:48Speaker 1: overkill because they need it, but I don't know, it's
- 5:51Speaker 1: still strange. Maybe he's maybe he's Mick Lombardi. Maybe. I
- 5:54Speaker 1: think if there's this, you know, I think, if there's
- 5:55Speaker 1: a season where you want overkill and I talking about
- 5:59Speaker 1: overkill quilling experienced people in the room, I think this
- 6:03Speaker 1: is the season for it, right you know, I agree, yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 1: because you know, you have so many of these young, younger,
- 6:10Speaker 1: in less experienced guys on the staff who might have
- 6:15Speaker 1: been thrust into positions that they're not quite ready for.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Maybe they need a little bit more time. And you
- 6:20Speaker 1: have a guy, even even if Judge hasn't called plays
- 6:24Speaker 1: or coached, you know, other parts of the offense besides
- 6:27Speaker 1: wide receivers, he still knows the system and he knows
- 6:31Speaker 1: how to and I like it, especially if and this
- 6:34Speaker 1: is a big if, if Nick Kayley is truly being
- 6:37Speaker 1: broomed to be an offensive coordinator. Yea as much support
- 6:40Speaker 1: as he can get until he actually gets the title.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I think that's a good thing. Yeah, well, and then
- 6:45Speaker 1: think about it. If so we were talking about Joe
- 6:48Speaker 1: Judge and not necessarily being thrilled with him just coming
- 6:52Speaker 1: in as offensive coordinator, if maybe it's it's what you said.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Maybe it's more Kayley, right, and they're not going to
- 6:59Speaker 1: give him the job, but maybe he's the one who
- 7:01Speaker 1: call his plays. And then maybe Joe Judge is like
- 7:03Speaker 1: the tight ends coach, right, you know, maybe maybe Kaylee
- 7:08Speaker 1: moves to like quarterbacks or something. Yeah, and you just
- 7:11Speaker 1: place and you lost Carmen Brisillo, you know, and you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: maybe Billy Yates isn't ready to be the true offensive
- 7:17Speaker 1: line coach. Maybe you need an experience. Maybe Joe Judge
- 7:19Speaker 1: does that, right, or maybe Matt Patricia does that he
- 7:22Speaker 1: has experienced as an offensive line coach. Like, I think
- 7:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of different things that could still happen.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But until we find out what the plan is as
- 7:30Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, I think people are going to have concerns.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Do you think they even know right now? I mean,
- 7:34Speaker 1: is that why you maybe leave it open of offensive assistant?
- 7:36Speaker 1: And while we see Mick Leaves that maybe he's the
- 7:38Speaker 1: wide receivers coach. Could be you know, do they know
- 7:41Speaker 1: right now or is it just kind of we know
- 7:43Speaker 1: he's going to be on that side of the ball,
- 7:44Speaker 1: but we're not quite sure that it's going to come.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Could be Are you suggesting that Bill doesn't have a plan,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but I mean it could be possible that Bill says
- 7:54Speaker 1: I'm not ready to make a decision yet. Yeah, well,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I mean you have a little flexibility right at this
- 7:59Speaker 1: point in time. I mean, it's uh, I don't know.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I just I would welcome Bill O'Brien. I would welcome
- 8:04Speaker 1: Adam Gaze. It's just some kind of offensive coach that
- 8:07Speaker 1: that can come in and have some kind of brand
- 8:09Speaker 1: on the offense. And I mean, I guess if it
- 8:11Speaker 1: was Nick Kelly emerging that would that would you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: be positive. But I just I don't want to spend
- 8:17Speaker 1: a year trying to figure it out. I don't want
- 8:19Speaker 1: to spend a year like this is a valuable year
- 8:20Speaker 1: for Mac Jones And you know, what you've got, the
- 8:23Speaker 1: players that you've got, the free agents that are going
- 8:24Speaker 1: to come up next year. I mean, I think I
- 8:26Speaker 1: mentioned last year you just have born laugh, so you know,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean, I just don't want to take a step
- 8:30Speaker 1: backwards this year, and that that's I think the biggest
- 8:32Speaker 1: concern for everybody. Yeah. Um, NFL news, like I heard
- 8:36Speaker 1: there's some rumblings with Deshaun Watson, like some where he
- 8:40Speaker 1: wants to be a Fowler. Yeah. I think Hatty report
- 8:42Speaker 1: on him yesterday. Yeah, and he's sort of ready to
- 8:46Speaker 1: sort of what did you say? Was it Minnesota? Minnesota
- 8:49Speaker 1: and one other two? One thought Blanket Jackson, No, not
- 8:54Speaker 1: jack I'm um Philly. I don't think it was Philly,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and it wasn't my There were two teams that he,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I guess was open to and Minnesota was one of them. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 1: but they opened to him Bucks. See. Now this is
- 9:12Speaker 1: going to get back to Paul and my argument about Brady.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So let's say the Bucks, you know, take a swing
- 9:19Speaker 1: and DeShawn Watson and they hire him. To me, that
- 9:22Speaker 1: creates leverage for Brady if he truly wants to play again.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Oh I think it does. Yeah, Okay, Yeah, I don't
- 9:28Speaker 1: argue with you that it creates leverage. Yeah, I just
- 9:31Speaker 1: if I would Tamper, I would say, screw you can retire. No,
- 9:36Speaker 1: but if he says I want to come back, they
- 9:38Speaker 1: have to pay him, then come back. They're not going
- 9:40Speaker 1: to pay both him in DeShawn Watson, come back and
- 9:42Speaker 1: back up Deshaun Watson, and they're gonna pay Brady. Yep,
- 9:46Speaker 1: that's what I would do, because, as you know, the
- 9:50Speaker 1: cap is crap. I'm emotional, I know, but but that's correct.
- 9:54Speaker 1: But that's not the best address of a team. You know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: that's a lot of wouldn't be thinking about that the time.
- 10:00Speaker 1: That's gonna be like sounds like the best quarterback room
- 10:03Speaker 1: in the league. That's that's like sixty five. I do
- 10:06Speaker 1: not allow someone to back me into a corner. That's
- 10:08Speaker 1: all I'm saying. But that's what would happen. Yeah, I
- 10:12Speaker 1: mean I think he's But isn't that what grunted Zoe
- 10:16Speaker 1: is saying. I don't think Bill O'Brien is happening. Ope,
- 10:18Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien will not be the offensive coordinator, according to Zoe,
- 10:21Speaker 1: very decisive. Yes, he went from I don't think too
- 10:24Speaker 1: it will not I think the same sign is happening.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien will not be the offensive coordinator. Uh. One
- 10:30Speaker 1: other thing I want to bring up to is Reese
- 10:32Speaker 1: wrote today about the linebackers, which I liked. I mean,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I just I think we've shined a light on that
- 10:37Speaker 1: a little bit. But you know, just counting them up
- 10:39Speaker 1: that I was talking to Eric, I mean, there's eleven guys,
- 10:41Speaker 1: eleven inside outside linebackers on the roster. Van Noy and
- 10:45Speaker 1: Judeon are really only two who have played a counting
- 10:47Speaker 1: as being on the roster. Well, just right now, I'm saying,
- 10:50Speaker 1: like we counting high tower commins, no free agent, no
- 10:54Speaker 1: free agent, not you know, just right now this very moment,
- 10:57Speaker 1: not the free agents. That's eleven guy. Yeah, yeah, been
- 11:00Speaker 1: counting those two, right, It's like nine guys on the
- 11:02Speaker 1: roster never really done anything here. I mean, you got
- 11:04Speaker 1: the mcmillins and the Tavis of the world. I mean,
- 11:07Speaker 1: they've played a little bit, but you know, otherwise, as
- 11:09Speaker 1: Reese kind of pointed out, it's you know, why are
- 11:12Speaker 1: they taking these guys? None of them have really emerged.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And he was doing it through the lens of of
- 11:16Speaker 1: Logan Wilson, who was you know, a highly regarded linebacker
- 11:19Speaker 1: when he came out, and how the Patriots traded up
- 11:21Speaker 1: to get josh U j and you know he can't
- 11:23Speaker 1: really seem to find a way to get on the field.
- 11:24Speaker 1: But yeah, that's the picture right there, Cooper Cup Andrew Worth.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's hilarious. He looks like will if every saw Gummo.
- 11:34Speaker 1: He looks like every teenage kid. Yeah. Yeah, but anyway,
- 11:39Speaker 1: but I liked what I mean, I think that, Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I mean, it's basically it was like it was like
- 11:48Speaker 1: a summation of our argument Fred, like, you know, he
- 11:50Speaker 1: got to play the young guys. He sticks with it,
- 11:52Speaker 1: he has a plan. He plays the veterans like here.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Obviously if he thought those guys were what, there's no
- 11:57Speaker 1: why in there. Yeah. I think we all know. They
- 12:01Speaker 1: drafted Joshua in the second round. They drafted Chase Winovich
- 12:05Speaker 1: in the third round. They drafted Ronnie Perkins. They drafted
- 12:07Speaker 1: all these guys, and they don't play. We don't know
- 12:09Speaker 1: why they don't play, and we still don't. We don't. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: I mean I just I look at their role. I mean,
- 12:15Speaker 1: Uch is what he was in college, and that was well,
- 12:17Speaker 1: he's super athletic, But how is he gonna fight? And
- 12:19Speaker 1: we don't. But don't you think that if Ucha came
- 12:22Speaker 1: in or Whenevich came in and like wow, he'd get
- 12:25Speaker 1: more reps and he'd be playing. So you're point, Fred,
- 12:27Speaker 1: Have you seen a super athletic guy in Josh Ucha. Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 1: I've seen flashes of speed. Yeah I have. I amn't
- 12:34Speaker 1: I have. I've seen a little bit master He's faster
- 12:38Speaker 1: than the linebackers they have. I don't see. Yeah, maybe
- 12:40Speaker 1: it's a whole bob. I can't remember. It's not a lot.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I can remember two or three occasions sitting in the
- 12:46Speaker 1: press box saying, oh, okay, he got it. He got
- 12:48Speaker 1: in there fast. He had finished back his rookie season
- 12:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty tackle. I forget which quarterback it was, but
- 12:57Speaker 1: I remember one of the more athletic ones they Josh Allen.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I think I think he made a play in the
- 13:03Speaker 1: open field. Yeah, and he's on Josh Allen the play
- 13:06Speaker 1: on TA in the late Miami game. Yeah. But I
- 13:10Speaker 1: just haven't seen a super athletic guy. I know that
- 13:12Speaker 1: that's where we're build on. And I'm not picking on you, Mike,
- 13:14Speaker 1: because you and I have picked on others for their
- 13:18Speaker 1: summer characterizations of of josh Ucha that you and I
- 13:21Speaker 1: have left scratching ahead saying do we yea we watching
- 13:24Speaker 1: another drill? Do we miss something? You know? And yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I like him off the edge and you know that
- 13:28Speaker 1: bend and stuff. But you know, like it doesn't seem
- 13:30Speaker 1: like a middle linebacker. He doesn't look like you know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: going forward. I like him going forward. Put that on
- 13:35Speaker 1: the checklist of you know, we always talk about things
- 13:38Speaker 1: we're going to be looking for in camp. You a
- 13:39Speaker 1: linebacking cores, you know, well, we're gonna be looking for
- 13:43Speaker 1: differences between not just not just at linebacker, but I
- 13:46Speaker 1: think on the roster in general. With a few you know,
- 13:50Speaker 1: long time veterans probably not coming back. Uh and you
- 13:55Speaker 1: only currently have six draft picks and roughly twenty million
- 13:58Speaker 1: in cap space, it's not going to be a huge
- 14:01Speaker 1: offseason for team building as far as getting new players
- 14:04Speaker 1: in here, or at least high level new players in here,
- 14:07Speaker 1: So you might have to kind of go with what
- 14:09Speaker 1: you've got on the roster, right, I think all signs
- 14:11Speaker 1: appointing to that. That's yeah, Yeah, that's that's what I
- 14:14Speaker 1: think too, Because I mean, like I said, you know,
- 14:16Speaker 1: you've got nine guys, like, can you go out and
- 14:18Speaker 1: sign three more? And and then you know these guys
- 14:21Speaker 1: are just gonna fall by the wayside or you know, like,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I don't know, that just doesn't seem effective. And I
- 14:26Speaker 1: think you're right. I think as I'm gua more and more,
- 14:29Speaker 1: it's like, man, it probably makes sense to just kind
- 14:31Speaker 1: of retains as many of your own guys that you can,
- 14:33Speaker 1: let the guys retire, let these other young guys play
- 14:36Speaker 1: a little bit more, maybe take some lumps with them now.
- 14:39Speaker 1: But and this is what I don't like about the
- 14:41Speaker 1: way that they've gotten themselves in this position. And I'm
- 14:44Speaker 1: not saying it's absolute every time it happens this way.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But so Winovich j Perkins, Jennings, Right, there's a four
- 14:55Speaker 1: draft picks in the last three years. Yeah, so let's
- 15:00Speaker 1: just say for arguments sake, Winovich gets twelve and a
- 15:05Speaker 1: half sacks this year as a full time playing You're like, wow,
- 15:08Speaker 1: this is great. Well, then he's gone in the last
- 15:11Speaker 1: year of his deal. Everybody looks and says, now we
- 15:15Speaker 1: got to get that guy. Gonna give him fifty million
- 15:17Speaker 1: next year, and you know, and he goes like, but
- 15:20Speaker 1: he loves New Hampshire, so you have that going for you,
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know Ucha. Let's say Ucha really emerges, Well, now
- 15:25Speaker 1: you got him and he's entering the last year of
- 15:27Speaker 1: his deal, and then he might look at it and say,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I don't want to sign an extension. I'm going to
- 15:32Speaker 1: cash in, right, you know, Perkins a little bit younger.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I think there's a little bit more to that story. Um.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I just when you delay the starting point for these guys,
- 15:45Speaker 1: you take a valuable year of cheap labor off of
- 15:48Speaker 1: the you know, the equation. Yeah, and as much as
- 15:51Speaker 1: I tell you, I think the cap is crap, and
- 15:54Speaker 1: I honestly believe that. I don't just play that as
- 15:56Speaker 1: a role. It is. It is there. It does exist,
- 16:00Speaker 1: like you can work around it, but it is I
- 16:03Speaker 1: think a really it's an advantageous spot to have guys
- 16:07Speaker 1: on rookie contracts that are making major contributions, and I
- 16:11Speaker 1: think we sometimes go out of the way, go out
- 16:14Speaker 1: of our way, not to necessarily get as much as
- 16:17Speaker 1: we could out of them. I think for josh uj
- 16:20Speaker 1: to play six plays, three of them being kneel downs
- 16:22Speaker 1: and that Buffalo playoff game doesn't make any sense to me.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So I can say in that game, I can sit
- 16:27Speaker 1: here and tell you I don't really see this explosive,
- 16:30Speaker 1: uber athletic linebacker. But does that mean I think he
- 16:33Speaker 1: shouldn't play like period? Yeah? You know Winovich was inactive
- 16:38Speaker 1: in that game, right, yep? You know Anthony Jennings. So
- 16:41Speaker 1: Mike writes this, Mike writes this a lot. He showed
- 16:44Speaker 1: up for camp a little bit out of shape, so
- 16:46Speaker 1: he just lost the whole year. They just banished him
- 16:49Speaker 1: to Siberia because he wasn't in the proper shape. Yeah,
- 16:52Speaker 1: and I think Bill he sometimes I think he tries
- 16:56Speaker 1: to make a point to a fault. You know. It's like,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm not making an exception for this
- 17:02Speaker 1: young guy, because I want every guy to know that
- 17:05Speaker 1: if you don't do this, this isn't gonna happen. So
- 17:07Speaker 1: now you're year three, the guy has not played it,
- 17:10Speaker 1: really has not played. He's just not doing it the
- 17:12Speaker 1: way I want him to do it. And I am
- 17:15Speaker 1: not making an exception for him. I don't know, but
- 17:18Speaker 1: it feels that way. Yeah, you know, I agree, I agree,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and I think that's what you know, Paul was kind
- 17:23Speaker 1: of kind of saying, I mean I know that. I
- 17:24Speaker 1: think there was some kind of injury. I know there
- 17:26Speaker 1: was a death in the family and there were some
- 17:27Speaker 1: things going on with him as well. But I think
- 17:30Speaker 1: you're right, and you had an opportunity in twenty twenty,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and I think they took advantage of it to some
- 17:34Speaker 1: extent by getting some of those guys some experience, but
- 17:36Speaker 1: none of it carried over to this season. I mean,
- 17:38Speaker 1: they gave Toures halla bunch. He was hurt the whole year.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I mean when of Itch completely fell off the cliff ouch,
- 17:43Speaker 1: everyone was pumping up like he was the next thing,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and like Paul said, he barely played. So I just
- 17:49Speaker 1: how does that all play out? Did they bring other
- 17:50Speaker 1: guys in if high Tower and Collins are gone? Um,
- 17:54Speaker 1: did those guys, those guys people to step up? And
- 17:56Speaker 1: they even given the opportunity. And I wonder if part
- 17:59Speaker 1: of his calculus was that, you know, after signing all
- 18:03Speaker 1: those free agents last offseason and Mac getting the job,
- 18:07Speaker 1: and they start to go on this little bit of
- 18:08Speaker 1: a role and he's thinking, maybe we have a shot.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I need to go with the guys I know have
- 18:14Speaker 1: produced for me in the past. I'm gonna stick with
- 18:17Speaker 1: what's familiar, and it looked like it was rolling there
- 18:19Speaker 1: for a while, that seven game winning streaks. So it's like, okay, we're,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know, at one point with the number one seed,
- 18:24Speaker 1: so got to keep playing these guys, and then it
- 18:26Speaker 1: kind of falls apart. And that's the question. If they
- 18:29Speaker 1: hadn't done that, if the opposite happened, and it looks like, yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 1: we ain't Yeah, would these guys have played you know,
- 18:36Speaker 1: maybe yeah, But would you have brought Collins back? I mean,
- 18:38Speaker 1: they brought Collins back in the middle of the season
- 18:40Speaker 1: when right, you know, And and I think many people
- 18:43Speaker 1: would probably argue that he was better than you know,
- 18:45Speaker 1: a lot of those guys, like the better than van
- 18:47Speaker 1: Noyan high Towers. So I don't know it's all about that.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I think I was disappointed, certainly the least impressive of
- 18:53Speaker 1: his three stacks. Yeah, I mean, you know, they put
- 18:55Speaker 1: him in, they put him in, and they put him
- 18:58Speaker 1: in situations where to make plays, and he didn't do it.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I would agree with you. I don't think they got
- 19:03Speaker 1: much out of any of those three guys. I think
- 19:05Speaker 1: van Noy probably the most. I think van Noy was okay,
- 19:08Speaker 1: but I don't think he was very good for large
- 19:10Speaker 1: stretches of the season too. I think he got hot
- 19:12Speaker 1: like a lot of other guys in that seven game
- 19:14Speaker 1: winning streak. Yeah, I can't complain about van Noy, but
- 19:18Speaker 1: high Tower had maybe two games where you said, oh,
- 19:21Speaker 1: that's the old Dante high Tower, But mostly he wasn't
- 19:24Speaker 1: And you know, like there was that story early in
- 19:27Speaker 1: the season that he came out and kind of said,
- 19:29Speaker 1: you know, I'm being asked to do different things, and
- 19:32Speaker 1: other people kind of stuck up for him, like he's
- 19:34Speaker 1: doing what he's supposed to be doing. I don't know, man,
- 19:38Speaker 1: you know, I you know, they had nothing. They had
- 19:41Speaker 1: nothing at the end of the year. So that's the
- 19:42Speaker 1: prism you kind of look at it through. But I'd
- 19:45Speaker 1: be curious with Vanno. I mean, I know he's got
- 19:47Speaker 1: another year, like you said, I mean, a pretty good year.
- 19:49Speaker 1: So it's just one of the weird position groups where
- 19:52Speaker 1: they have a bunch of guys and nobody's really done anything.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Like like cornerback they don't really have enough guys. They
- 19:57Speaker 1: need to go get guys one way or another. But linebacker,
- 20:00Speaker 1: it's a good point, like you need they have a
- 20:02Speaker 1: lot of bottle, a lot of quarterbacks, they don't really
- 20:04Speaker 1: even have a lot of body, right, you know, even
- 20:06Speaker 1: offensive line without you know, Trent and Caress as free agents,
- 20:10Speaker 1: like you have some poles there you gotta fill, you
- 20:11Speaker 1: don't really have maybe on when you can land in
- 20:13Speaker 1: one of those spots. But it's not like linebacker where
- 20:16Speaker 1: there's like I said, it's like, guys, say, how many
- 20:18Speaker 1: times can you really say, you know when you're looking
- 20:21Speaker 1: at that end zone shot that you saw a Patriots
- 20:23Speaker 1: linebackers filling gaps and stopping a run play, you know
- 20:27Speaker 1: that type of thing. And I think those were the
- 20:29Speaker 1: high tower plays where you know those few games where
- 20:31Speaker 1: he came down and he put his shoulder into you know,
- 20:33Speaker 1: some poor unsuspecting offensive guard who's trying to pull and
- 20:37Speaker 1: you know, and that I think he's still he still
- 20:39Speaker 1: had But and I think the other point to Reese's
- 20:41Speaker 1: thing too, that I mean using it as a jumping
- 20:43Speaker 1: off point four discussion. Um, you know, it's just schematically
- 20:46Speaker 1: and I think that's what everybody's you know, you're kind
- 20:49Speaker 1: of prisoners of that last game and Devin Lloyd and
- 20:52Speaker 1: we need these like a mobile linebacker and that'll fix
- 20:53Speaker 1: all the problems. I don't know. I don't know if
- 20:56Speaker 1: it will I and maybe they need to adjust things
- 20:58Speaker 1: a little bit. And but if there's not gonna be
- 21:00Speaker 1: any defensive personnel changes, then it's it seems like it's
- 21:03Speaker 1: probably gonna be well along what we've seen. And I
- 21:06Speaker 1: think just catching up on some of the the mock
- 21:10Speaker 1: drafts that have come out, I think ESPN had a
- 21:11Speaker 1: couple of their you know, mcshan and Kuiper had their
- 21:14Speaker 1: mocks come out and they both had cornerbacks and then
- 21:17Speaker 1: come into New England in the first round. Okay, yeah, fine, Yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 1: I'm fine with that too. Yeah, because they need help there.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Like Paul said, they hardly have you know, anybodies at
- 21:25Speaker 1: that start of the one part about what Reese wrote
- 21:27Speaker 1: about the linebacker, and I know that, you know, like
- 21:30Speaker 1: Mike's Mike said, like he focuses on Logan Wilson, who
- 21:34Speaker 1: you know, let's be honest, a lot of people probably
- 21:36Speaker 1: never even heard of until the playoffs, even though he's
- 21:39Speaker 1: been a good player for the for the Bengals. But
- 21:41Speaker 1: I just think that his skill set and his you know,
- 21:45Speaker 1: his his numbers, his physical numbers is in the same
- 21:49Speaker 1: kind of range size wise and weight wise is is Uja.
- 21:53Speaker 1: He plays that kind of style. I just don't see
- 21:56Speaker 1: Jay as being a guy who's going to contribute in
- 21:59Speaker 1: the you know, in coverage. I think going forward, moving
- 22:02Speaker 1: toward the line of scrimmage. I think I made this
- 22:04Speaker 1: point during the summer when Zoe Um you know, famously
- 22:07Speaker 1: said that's a good point, Paul, that that Matt plays
- 22:11Speaker 1: all the time. He when he's going forward, I think
- 22:14Speaker 1: he can be disruptive. And I think that he has
- 22:17Speaker 1: a knack of rushing the passer. Let's let's sort of
- 22:23Speaker 1: take the reins off a little bit in pigeonhole. Guys,
- 22:25Speaker 1: if that's what they do, if they can do something,
- 22:28Speaker 1: they don't have to be Lawrence Taylor rushing the passer.
- 22:30Speaker 1: They can still be contributing rushing the passer. I don't
- 22:34Speaker 1: think that we necessarily need to look at a guy
- 22:37Speaker 1: who does everything. Well, yeah, I feel like that's what
- 22:40Speaker 1: they're certain. I think Bill again, I'm thinking, I think,
- 22:45Speaker 1: you know, I preface that because we all do you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: they don't. We're not. We don't want to come across
- 22:50Speaker 1: we're ing more about football than But I think Bill
- 22:52Speaker 1: projects and he's like when he looks at a team
- 22:56Speaker 1: and dissects their film. He looks for every weakness on
- 23:00Speaker 1: that team, and so when a guy can only do
- 23:02Speaker 1: one thing, he looks at that as a weakness when
- 23:05Speaker 1: he's on the field, and he just assumes, because he
- 23:07Speaker 1: does it, every other coach is going to say, Oucha's
- 23:10Speaker 1: out there, let's let's run the ball because he can't
- 23:13Speaker 1: tackle worth beans, you know. And I think he just
- 23:16Speaker 1: projects that way, and he just feels so, you know,
- 23:19Speaker 1: has such discomfort having guys out there that can't play both,
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, to a certain level. Yeah, you know. I mean,
- 23:27Speaker 1: there's only so many of those guys though, I know,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and that's I know, but he you know, I think
- 23:31Speaker 1: it's very few and far between where he'll put a
- 23:34Speaker 1: guy out there that can only do one thing. Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 1: And that's and that's what I wonder. And this is
- 23:39Speaker 1: probably the big kind of picture of it all. If
- 23:42Speaker 1: the final act of Bill Belichick is just expecting too
- 23:45Speaker 1: much out of these players and not being able to
- 23:48Speaker 1: get everything he needs out of guys like he used to.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And I don't know what changed, if it's the type
- 23:54Speaker 1: of players, or you know, if his expectations changed, but
- 23:58Speaker 1: it just seems like on both sides the ball. The
- 24:01Speaker 1: last five years, four or three, four or five years,
- 24:04Speaker 1: they just had trouble being able to find the players
- 24:06Speaker 1: that can do what they want to do. And I
- 24:08Speaker 1: think that's, you know, part of the point with with
- 24:10Speaker 1: Reese and with the offense, the offense offense, Is it
- 24:14Speaker 1: time to dumb things down a little bit? Is it
- 24:16Speaker 1: time to you know? And then and it's it's just
- 24:18Speaker 1: such a weird conversation to have, like I don't want
- 24:21Speaker 1: to say it that way of like dumb it down,
- 24:23Speaker 1: but it's just if you can't find guys to do
- 24:26Speaker 1: what you want to do and you cannot create a
- 24:28Speaker 1: team that you want to create, I think you have
- 24:30Speaker 1: to adjust what you're looking for and how you're trying
- 24:32Speaker 1: to go about it. And you know, I know this
- 24:35Speaker 1: year was a little bit of a bounce back from
- 24:36Speaker 1: what we saw last year, but but not that much.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I mean, I think it was still a lot of
- 24:39Speaker 1: the same elements that we saw, especially on the defensive
- 24:42Speaker 1: side of the ball. So and that might be the
- 24:44Speaker 1: case with Ucha and who knows, Perkins if we ever
- 24:47Speaker 1: see him, and maybe Jennings, but with Winovic, I'm gonna
- 24:50Speaker 1: side with coaching decision there because he just gets out
- 24:55Speaker 1: of position. You know, he takes the long way to
- 24:58Speaker 1: Grandma's house. I do think he's on disciplined. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 1: he gets stoned, you know, right, well what I mean
- 25:05Speaker 1: like a blocker, you know, um it's a football term.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But but but here's like the thing too, like and
- 25:12Speaker 1: and Paul, you do the draft, like none of these
- 25:15Speaker 1: guys like screen Patriots coming out like in the in
- 25:18Speaker 1: the draft. It's not like like, you know, you look
- 25:20Speaker 1: at some of these guys. Now when when like linebacker
- 25:22Speaker 1: comes out and you see all right, six four two
- 25:25Speaker 1: fifty Jennings right like to me was an old school linebacker.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I just feel like that guy is being phased out
- 25:33Speaker 1: of the game, right. And that's and that's my point
- 25:35Speaker 1: is then you look at Perkins, Winovich and Uch. None
- 25:38Speaker 1: of them really fit that dynamic. All of those especially
- 25:42Speaker 1: right He's especially there was a yeah, hand down defensive end,
- 25:47Speaker 1: go get the quarterback. Um. And so I think when
- 25:50Speaker 1: they took those guys, what does this signify a scheme change?
- 25:53Speaker 1: We're spending a high draft pick on a non six
- 25:56Speaker 1: three two fifty linebacker does that? But then they draft
- 26:00Speaker 1: but then they don't play him. So I it's it's
- 26:02Speaker 1: all all confusing, and I just I'm wondering what direction
- 26:05Speaker 1: they're going. And this year I think will force that hand.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And I think that's what you know, I like Reese's
- 26:10Speaker 1: Piecealy sparked to me just all that, you know, what
- 26:13Speaker 1: are you gonna do? You can't cut all these guys
- 26:14Speaker 1: and then bring on all new guys. He drafted all
- 26:16Speaker 1: these guys. You got to give him a chance at
- 26:18Speaker 1: some point. And I mean he even seems a little
- 26:20Speaker 1: bit higher on Ronnie Perkins than you know, we didn't
- 26:23Speaker 1: see anything Perkins. I don't know. Yeah, I'm not down
- 26:26Speaker 1: on Ronnie Perkins. I'm just going by what I've seen,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and that's nothing. Yeah, so I have to think that
- 26:32Speaker 1: here's where I side with you a little bit. Fred.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The guys that don't play at all, I don't think
- 26:37Speaker 1: that's Bill Belichick wasting Lawrence Taylor, right, Like I think
- 26:40Speaker 1: he hasn't really seen much from a guy like j Winovich.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Those guys that they're in the game plan sometimes they're
- 26:47Speaker 1: out of it. Other times I wonder what, you know, what,
- 26:49Speaker 1: why why? Yeah Perkins, Anthreny Jennings, they haven't been part
- 26:53Speaker 1: of anything at all. Yeah, all right, eight five five
- 26:57Speaker 1: hundred is the ace ticket Hutline web radio at Patriot
- 26:59Speaker 1: dot com. Um So talk about all of that, but
- 27:03Speaker 1: really anything you want. It's unfiltered off season, so kind
- 27:08Speaker 1: of in that dead period after the Super Bowl to
- 27:10Speaker 1: get wild and crazy. What do you guys think? I mean,
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm late to this party. But super Bowl it was fine?
- 27:15Speaker 1: You liked it? Yeah, my my perfectly adequateness. My executive
- 27:21Speaker 1: summary was the game was good, the halftime was okay. Yeah,
- 27:25Speaker 1: the commercials were mah yeah, yeah, sniff, that's it's not
- 27:30Speaker 1: bad that I pretty much agree with that. I thought
- 27:32Speaker 1: it was a game went down on the wire, so
- 27:34Speaker 1: it was excitement there. I don't think it was a
- 27:36Speaker 1: great game. I don't think it was a terrible game.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I think that it was fine. No, it was fine.
- 27:39Speaker 1: It was fine. It was a fine It was a
- 27:41Speaker 1: fine game. I thought it was. At one point I
- 27:44Speaker 1: was thinking, boy, the refs really haven't had any part
- 27:47Speaker 1: in this game. And then all of a sudden, the
- 27:49Speaker 1: ball at the end and all of a sudden they're
- 27:51Speaker 1: calling tiki tax stuff and in the red zone, And
- 27:53Speaker 1: I said to Duce, maybe it wouldn't have mattered. Maybe
- 27:56Speaker 1: the rams would have scored anyway, but if they held
- 27:58Speaker 1: them to a field goal, now the Bengals still have
- 28:01Speaker 1: a lead with less than two minutes to go, and
- 28:03Speaker 1: maybe that changes things a little bit, and you know,
- 28:06Speaker 1: who knows what happens at that point. But my favorite
- 28:09Speaker 1: commercial was Larry David and the Currency. Yeah, I'm never
- 28:16Speaker 1: wrong about these things, right, Yeah, I will say pretty good,
- 28:20Speaker 1: But you're right, it hasn't been a good like past
- 28:23Speaker 1: five or so years for commercials. I don't think. Yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 1: we talked a little bit about the Bengals and just
- 28:27Speaker 1: like and the more that we've gone out these last
- 28:30Speaker 1: few days, I feel like these guys are gonna be
- 28:32Speaker 1: chasing their tails for they got there this year. But
- 28:35Speaker 1: I feel like it's it's just gonna be a grind
- 28:37Speaker 1: for them to get back to this position. Why do
- 28:40Speaker 1: you think that. I just think they're the Bengals, you know,
- 28:43Speaker 1: And I hate to like say it that way, but
- 28:46Speaker 1: we just we need protection. We gotta get him protected.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm like, you're gonna whack them all. You're gonna like
- 28:50Speaker 1: draft this awesome offensive line and then you're gonna lose
- 28:52Speaker 1: Jamar Chase for a year and he you know, and
- 28:54Speaker 1: he's gonna struggle. It's just gonna be just like with Carson,
- 28:57Speaker 1: when you thought Carson Palmer and they got something with
- 29:00Speaker 1: Ochocinko and Hushman Zada and all that, and they just,
- 29:03Speaker 1: you know, they get to the playoffs. He tears his ac.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just it seems like it's all
- 29:06Speaker 1: lighted up like that. For the Bengals, I don't believe
- 29:08Speaker 1: that they're gonna be that. And I think that the Rams.
- 29:11Speaker 1: You know, the Rams won the Super Bowl, congratulations to them,
- 29:13Speaker 1: but there is like they're kind of an uninspiring super
- 29:16Speaker 1: Bowl champion, if you know what I mean, even to
- 29:18Speaker 1: La fans. Yeah, well right, yeah, that's that's different. But
- 29:23Speaker 1: like the they won all their playoff games and probably
- 29:27Speaker 1: could have lost any one of them. Yeah, you know
- 29:29Speaker 1: what I mean. The way they played like it wasn't
- 29:30Speaker 1: like they were a juggernaut, not like the Rams of
- 29:33Speaker 1: twenty years ago, where you thought, like I must really
- 29:35Speaker 1: do have like that Rams blind spot. Like I think
- 29:38Speaker 1: they blew out the Cardinals. I think they blew out
- 29:40Speaker 1: the Bucks, and only because of their own ineptitude do
- 29:43Speaker 1: they allowed that game to get close. San Francisco. They
- 29:45Speaker 1: had a chance to lose. Yeah, this game was all
- 29:47Speaker 1: about the offense that they lost during the game, they
- 29:51Speaker 1: were on the verge of blowing that game. All thought
- 29:53Speaker 1: so too. I think they're the best team. I don't
- 29:57Speaker 1: think they're like gonna go down. I don't think you're
- 29:59Speaker 1: gonna look at them and say like they're like the
- 30:01Speaker 1: old four Patriots, one of the great Super Bowl champions
- 30:04Speaker 1: of all time. I don't think you'll look at them
- 30:06Speaker 1: like that. But they were one of the two or
- 30:09Speaker 1: three best teams in football from start to finish all
- 30:11Speaker 1: the year. And I think it's gonna take a little
- 30:13Speaker 1: while for la fans. I mean, like for us, like
- 30:15Speaker 1: we had like homegrown guys, you know mcguinnis and Bruskie
- 30:19Speaker 1: and Brady and you know all our all care about
- 30:22Speaker 1: sports in Bostons, like these were our guys and you know,
- 30:27Speaker 1: right now except for Donald, like they brought guys in.
- 30:29Speaker 1: If those guys stay for a while, fans, I think fans,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I don't think that has anything to do with it.
- 30:34Speaker 1: You don't, Honest to God, you don't. You don't think
- 30:36Speaker 1: Patriots fans loved like darrelle Revis. No, I think they did.
- 30:39Speaker 1: But if it was just Darell Reeves. I think it
- 30:42Speaker 1: would be different, but we had Brady and Edelman and
- 30:44Speaker 1: these you know, but they're also like Paul said, they're
- 30:47Speaker 1: not They don't carry out a sports town. Yeah, it's
- 30:50Speaker 1: like Dooce will tell you the like the the old
- 30:52Speaker 1: adage about Dodgers games, they get there in the third
- 30:55Speaker 1: and ding they've gone by the sixth and then and
- 30:57Speaker 1: each team, each team certainly has and why core of
- 31:00Speaker 1: fans that that love that team, but because they balanced. Yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 1: it's just there's so much to do there. But it's
- 31:07Speaker 1: also you know, like here sports and that's what it
- 31:11Speaker 1: was another reason why they don't go right, Like where
- 31:14Speaker 1: is it downtown? Middle of the day? Pass hard pass,
- 31:18Speaker 1: but like even the sports radio just completely different there.
- 31:22Speaker 1: It's completely it's not like the drive. Where do you
- 31:24Speaker 1: stand on on on parades? Parades? Who does love a parade?
- 31:29Speaker 1: It was little Mikey at the parade. I didn't go
- 31:31Speaker 1: to any of the parades? Were you not here? Though
- 31:33Speaker 1: I was here, I was here and you didn't go.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I see. I think that's telling. Yeah, no one was
- 31:38Speaker 1: a bigger fan than Mike. Yeah, he had a he
- 31:41Speaker 1: had a I'm loged Belichick's cloth. Yeah, but and he
- 31:47Speaker 1: didn't find like, I don't think to be fair, the
- 31:50Speaker 1: criticism that the RAMS fans get for not like, criticize
- 31:54Speaker 1: RAMS fans for not going to the games, criticize RAMS
- 31:56Speaker 1: fans for allowing San Francisco to have seventy thirty split
- 32:00Speaker 1: of fans in the NFC Championship. Don't criticize RAMS fans
- 32:03Speaker 1: for not going to a Laane parade. Yeah. Yeah, that's uh,
- 32:06Speaker 1: it's fair. I mean, in fairness, that was kind of specific.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I probably would have been there if I really wanted
- 32:11Speaker 1: to be, I maybe would have made it work, but
- 32:13Speaker 1: it was it's too much. It's a crowd, it's for kids.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Seconds for kids. Yeah, all the media members in the Yeah,
- 32:20Speaker 1: on the duck boat, right, it's Jeff Howe. Oh god.
- 32:26Speaker 1: But waffle, but it's weird. Somebody posted that it was
- 32:31Speaker 1: a shot of Glenn Gleason from one of the They
- 32:34Speaker 1: said somebody threw a waffle at the media thing, and
- 32:35Speaker 1: it was like Glenn Gleason holding up just like a
- 32:38Speaker 1: lego ego waffle. Somebody through just through a waffle at
- 32:41Speaker 1: the media. I mean, is it also could it also
- 32:45Speaker 1: be that a lot of people that live in the
- 32:48Speaker 1: LA area are transplants, and ye, they don't even like
- 32:51Speaker 1: they like other teams. That could be that's part of
- 32:53Speaker 1: it too. It could be the bars are I mean,
- 32:55Speaker 1: each each team, each college, everybody has their own bar.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You know, when you'll go on like a Saturday morning
- 33:01Speaker 1: and like, there's the Michigan bar. They see everybody in Michigan.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Like it always looks like there are people at the
- 33:06Speaker 1: u USC and UCLA games are like are there are
- 33:08Speaker 1: they big college? Yeah? Fans yeah, and especially I mean
- 33:11Speaker 1: bigger than you know, the USC. It's on the camp.
- 33:14Speaker 1: You know, it's right there, so it's easier. But I went.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I went to football games for both those teams. Yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 1: like like those obviously they have support there, but you know,
- 33:21Speaker 1: you'll find a mega Dodger fan and then two feet
- 33:24Speaker 1: later you'll find somebody who doesn't even care. And I mean,
- 33:26Speaker 1: I think that's what's what was striking to me when
- 33:28Speaker 1: I moved back, is you don't really realize it growing
- 33:30Speaker 1: up here, but it's such a part of Like I
- 33:32Speaker 1: always make the joke when you have nothing to talk
- 33:34Speaker 1: about with somebody, you talk about the weather, like Boston,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you could talk about sports too. Like that's the other
- 33:38Speaker 1: thing you got nothing to talk about with something like
- 33:39Speaker 1: everybody has at least some kind of take on what's
- 33:42Speaker 1: going on with this point there. It's it's hit or miss.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Some people are completely completely disconnected from it. Is the
- 33:48Speaker 1: insider perspective, yeah, which which you know West Coast apathy.
- 33:52Speaker 1: The most striking part of it, I think was when
- 33:55Speaker 1: the Celtics played the Lakers in OH eight in the finals,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and so then they the disparity between you know, listening
- 34:02Speaker 1: to the radio in LA and how they were talking
- 34:03Speaker 1: about it, and how their fans were talking about and
- 34:05Speaker 1: then you know, still having my my one foot back
- 34:08Speaker 1: here and how they were talking about it. That was
- 34:10Speaker 1: what was, you know, most striking of just how how
- 34:12Speaker 1: much here it's just such a light here. It's it's
- 34:15Speaker 1: in the lifeblood, like you can't wait for the next game,
- 34:17Speaker 1: ye in all the sports, the big games, Yeah, I don't.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I don't know if it'll ever done like that. I
- 34:22Speaker 1: mean the Lakers, the Lakers probably the closest. That's why
- 34:25Speaker 1: we're lucky, in all seriousness, We're lucky to do what
- 34:30Speaker 1: we do in an area that cares about it as
- 34:32Speaker 1: much as they do. And I also imagine there's an
- 34:34Speaker 1: element of the front runnerism to LA, like anytime an
- 34:38Speaker 1: LA team is winning, everybody wants to be seen at
- 34:41Speaker 1: a at a game. The perfect example was my my
- 34:44Speaker 1: old boss could not have cared less about hockey Kings
- 34:47Speaker 1: are in the finals. She's like, I think we're gonna
- 34:48Speaker 1: go to the Stanley Cup finals tonight, Like you know,
- 34:50Speaker 1: that's that's the sports Like just like that they're like, oh,
- 34:53Speaker 1: we should go see. I guess they're gonna win the
- 34:55Speaker 1: trophy yea. But also being like enough that you could
- 35:00Speaker 1: just be like, right, I think the finals tonight. I'll
- 35:03Speaker 1: drop a g on a game that I don't have
- 35:05Speaker 1: any in trade, something to do. All right, five five
- 35:10Speaker 1: hundred is the ace ticket, hut lion. Let's get to it.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Will Williams and Philham. What's up, William? What's going on
- 35:17Speaker 1: for it? Hey? Hey? How you going on? Um? Well,
- 35:20Speaker 1: first of all, Eric Hope, I'm glad you're okay and whatnot?
- 35:24Speaker 1: I mean, thank you sir, Yeah, so you too appreciate
- 35:27Speaker 1: Give him the link to your go fund meach page.
- 35:31Speaker 1: All right, So, um, if you're working on that one
- 35:34Speaker 1: for three days, here name Tom mcshade. That does the
- 35:40Speaker 1: draft and whatnot. He's one of them. Yeah, I'll see
- 35:44Speaker 1: who we got taken. Kyle uh, the Kyl Gordon from Washington,
- 35:49Speaker 1: Kyler Gordon. Okay, I will pick another point. I mean
- 35:54Speaker 1: I would get him in the second round. Honestly, I
- 35:56Speaker 1: like Trent mcduffy um uh. It's a mind gardener. But
- 36:01Speaker 1: that's another you know, he's too far. He's probably gone
- 36:04Speaker 1: way earlyis doing things. My main top I'm calling for
- 36:08Speaker 1: is just wide receiver, and I just I just need
- 36:12Speaker 1: y'all listen to me for a minute. I already know
- 36:14Speaker 1: how y'all could be a mansion basically just rowing your
- 36:16Speaker 1: eyes about it. But Paul, you talked about it Tuesday
- 36:19Speaker 1: and you said you don't want to receive in the
- 36:21Speaker 1: first round. So let me just let me just open
- 36:24Speaker 1: your eyes a little bit. Okay, at some point, when
- 36:28Speaker 1: do you address this position? I know I call it
- 36:30Speaker 1: see and I talked about it a lot, and I
- 36:33Speaker 1: just want to open your eyes just a minute. Fellas,
- 36:35Speaker 1: Just like y'all say the receiver core is not a need.
- 36:38Speaker 1: It's oh I think it's a need. I didn't I
- 36:40Speaker 1: never said I think I think. All right, all right, Okay,
- 36:46Speaker 1: all right, so I think it, but I think it's
- 36:48Speaker 1: a big need, right like Okay, So it's like this,
- 36:51Speaker 1: I think we all can agree basically, na kill, Harry's gone,
- 36:55Speaker 1: Gunner's gone. Uh, Jakobe Myers is a free agent. Nelson Aguilar,
- 37:00Speaker 1: he might be gone until that only person on your
- 37:03Speaker 1: rosters that you're gonna have is Kendrick Borne. That pinned
- 37:06Speaker 1: it out. So my question is to you, Paul, you
- 37:09Speaker 1: know you don't want to receiver in the first round. Okay.
- 37:13Speaker 1: So and also another topic two with that, when I
- 37:16Speaker 1: touched with the follows there which was fred Eric and Mike,
- 37:20Speaker 1: and I told Hi about Jameson Williams. Now they laughed
- 37:22Speaker 1: it off whatever, but I want you to hear me
- 37:24Speaker 1: on this part there. Jamison Williams is a top ten pick. Okay,
- 37:27Speaker 1: if he had to, if he didn't have that torn
- 37:29Speaker 1: acl Okay, he's gone, He's off the board. Would never
- 37:33Speaker 1: see him because of that torn a cl though that
- 37:36Speaker 1: plays the partner pushed it down for the patients have
- 37:39Speaker 1: a chance to get them. They gotta get past the
- 37:41Speaker 1: Saint Yeah, you're past the Saint Cleveland and the Philaephia Eagles.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Of course, my thing is when felt I'm trying to
- 37:49Speaker 1: I'm start saying when fells, I'm like you didn't once,
- 37:52Speaker 1: we didn't want to do it. Last year we got
- 37:53Speaker 1: Trade Nixon. We don't know what he is. He's a
- 37:55Speaker 1: seventh round pick because the gentleman picked him, because he's retired,
- 37:58Speaker 1: because Bill gave it to him. Okay, whenever, fine, but
- 38:02Speaker 1: why we keep passing up on this? And this is
- 38:04Speaker 1: why you get calls like me Eldred and probably a
- 38:07Speaker 1: lot of other callers that were just like, we need
- 38:10Speaker 1: we need receivers like we need those dogs. Man, those
- 38:13Speaker 1: guys that's gonna you know that outside receiver in that slot.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So my thing to you is, don't get me wrong.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I want the linebacker position. Take here, the corner, the
- 38:22Speaker 1: defensive line. Okay, I'm with y'all all on that. But
- 38:26Speaker 1: my question always will always be when when you know
- 38:30Speaker 1: what I mean, when stay two picking the wrong challenge
- 38:32Speaker 1: and stop making it so hard, because day two would
- 38:34Speaker 1: be my answer when I would I would do it
- 38:36Speaker 1: in day two. I don't. I don't want to ignore three.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Are you gonna get a guy like Williams looking for
- 38:42Speaker 1: at number forty three or whatever? I will get a
- 38:45Speaker 1: guy who will do more in twenty twenty two than
- 38:47Speaker 1: Williams will in the Round two. I don't think Williams
- 38:49Speaker 1: is going to give you much next year. Yeah, so
- 38:52Speaker 1: if you're content to just kick the season, then sure,
- 38:57Speaker 1: if you think that Williams is that good that he's worth,
- 39:01Speaker 1: you know, waiting a year for I wouldn't kill them
- 39:04Speaker 1: for that. I just think they have more pressing needs.
- 39:06Speaker 1: And I think the reason why I like the Day
- 39:09Speaker 1: two wide receiver is doesn't make me right, but I
- 39:13Speaker 1: feel like that annually is the deepest position in the draft.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I think there are more good wide receivers in every
- 39:19Speaker 1: draft than any other position. So I can get the
- 39:23Speaker 1: fifteenth wide receiver somewhere, you know, in the middle to
- 39:26Speaker 1: the end of the second round. Who I think? I mean,
- 39:30Speaker 1: would you rather have Terry McLaurin or Hollywood Brown? Terry,
- 39:35Speaker 1: I'd rather have Terry McLaurin. He was a Day two pick.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Hollywood Brown was a first round pick around where you're
- 39:42Speaker 1: going to be picking, by the way, So and now listen,
- 39:46Speaker 1: would I'd rather have Justin Jefferson than Terry McLaurin. I'd
- 39:49Speaker 1: rather have Justin Jefferson another guy. So I want to
- 39:51Speaker 1: be fair. I'm going to give you examples off the
- 39:53Speaker 1: top of my head from both sides. I just impressed
- 39:55Speaker 1: myself with that. By the way, that's Fred's guy, justin Jefferson.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Fred loved just to Jefferson. So to your point, William,
- 40:03Speaker 1: I don't think anybody would be complaining about using a
- 40:05Speaker 1: first round pick on a wide receiver. I had it
- 40:07Speaker 1: been a guy like that, Yeah, you know, And that's
- 40:09Speaker 1: where William's coming from, So I see it. I do
- 40:12Speaker 1: think it's a big need. Yeah, they need a playmaking
- 40:15Speaker 1: wide receiver, not just a guy to fill a role. Yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 1: and I and I agree with that. I think, you know.
- 40:21Speaker 1: The point that I think he was referring to is that,
- 40:23Speaker 1: you know, and what he laid out. I think Aglore's back,
- 40:26Speaker 1: I know Born's back. Myers is a restricted free agent,
- 40:28Speaker 1: he's going to be back. So you got three guys.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I know that that's not enough right now. But you
- 40:33Speaker 1: need a starting cornerback, you need a starting right tackle,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you need a starting left guard. So this is that's
- 40:39Speaker 1: what you're kind of comparing it to. It's all right,
- 40:42Speaker 1: you would you rather draft a cornerback who's going to
- 40:44Speaker 1: come in at twenty one and start and play right away,
- 40:47Speaker 1: or do you want to wait a year for Jamison Williams,
- 40:49Speaker 1: who you know, maybe yeah, down the line is going
- 40:52Speaker 1: to be better, But meanwhile you're gonna be trying to
- 40:55Speaker 1: figure it out at cornerback. So it's a balancing act.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I agree with the general point. I'm I'm with Paul.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I think that that your point about every year, these
- 41:02Speaker 1: are so deep. You can go right down the list,
- 41:05Speaker 1: um of all these guys, Christal Lave I know he's
- 41:07Speaker 1: got tons of fans out there as well, UM, Garret Wilson,
- 41:10Speaker 1: the guy from Ohio State that I that I might
- 41:12Speaker 1: be my favorite. Um, you know, as we're getting into these,
- 41:15Speaker 1: but this it's deep. There's guys, there's guys there, and
- 41:18Speaker 1: I think that you know, everybody's gonna have some issues,
- 41:21Speaker 1: but there's a lot of needs and that's it's hard
- 41:23Speaker 1: to balance. And you know, I just you guys have
- 41:25Speaker 1: been doing this longer than I have, and I've always
- 41:27Speaker 1: felt like it's just every year, everybody wants a wide receiver.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Every year, for the most part, what you got people
- 41:32Speaker 1: want and they did take one and they didn't look out.
- 41:35Speaker 1: People want shiny objects, people want skill guys that they
- 41:38Speaker 1: can quantify. Yeah, and I and I get that. I
- 41:42Speaker 1: do too well, you knee. I mean, I like I
- 41:44Speaker 1: need him. How many times have I told you do
- 41:46Speaker 1: your offensive line in your own time? If they take
- 41:48Speaker 1: a tackle at twenty one, I will not argue unless
- 41:51Speaker 1: it's like the seventh tackle taken, right. I don't want
- 41:54Speaker 1: to do that either. But you know, this is supposedly
- 41:57Speaker 1: a reasonably strong class of offense tackles. I know a
- 42:01Speaker 1: couple of them have a chance. One of them is
- 42:02Speaker 1: gonna might go number one overall, the kid from Alabama. Right,
- 42:06Speaker 1: So if you could somehow get like the third or
- 42:10Speaker 1: fourth tackle and he's sliding and he's in the middle
- 42:12Speaker 1: of the teams and they moved up to get them,
- 42:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't be opposed to that, right, And I don't
- 42:18Speaker 1: you know me, I just plug somebody out and getting away.
- 42:22Speaker 1: And certainly not the people who call in and write
- 42:24Speaker 1: all year about how much they hate Isaiah Win should
- 42:27Speaker 1: complain about that either. I mean, this is you know
- 42:28Speaker 1: you've got there's a chance that you could lose three
- 42:31Speaker 1: starters off your offensive line. Man, you know, the's a
- 42:34Speaker 1: really good chance you're gonna lose two because two of
- 42:36Speaker 1: them are currently free agents and in carras in Trent Brown,
- 42:41Speaker 1: what if you make a deal for win and you
- 42:44Speaker 1: send them out, now that could be three and even
- 42:48Speaker 1: if you don't, it's not a great spot to be
- 42:50Speaker 1: in when you have an opening at one of your
- 42:53Speaker 1: starting spots and you have a one year one where
- 42:57Speaker 1: left on a contract of your other starting spot. Yeah,
- 42:59Speaker 1: and I don't think they have obvious guys to replace
- 43:01Speaker 1: him unless you you think of a when you more
- 43:03Speaker 1: as a tackle, and it doesn't look like they think
- 43:06Speaker 1: of that. Yeah, because I think they had a chance
- 43:08Speaker 1: to make him a tackle last year and they didn't
- 43:10Speaker 1: really love what they saw. Yeah, that's why it was better.
- 43:13Speaker 1: It just when they went from Light to Solder, when
- 43:16Speaker 1: they went from uh and the game Voren to James
- 43:18Speaker 1: White like they in the past, they Solder year by
- 43:21Speaker 1: the way, right, succession plans that don't really seem to
- 43:24Speaker 1: be happening anymore now. Solder ended up having to play
- 43:27Speaker 1: because of injuries. But yeah, you know, like Matt Light
- 43:32Speaker 1: was still under contract when they drafted Solder, so that
- 43:36Speaker 1: was like red shirt year Stodder Yep, same with Vereene
- 43:40Speaker 1: and White, right, I mean that's just that has it
- 43:42Speaker 1: just doesn't really seem to be that forethought right now,
- 43:45Speaker 1: like cornerback. You know, there's nobody like that was the
- 43:48Speaker 1: thing last year. Not not that I would trade Mac
- 43:50Speaker 1: or Barmore, but you know you'd love to have a
- 43:52Speaker 1: all right, well, yeah we might lose Jac, but you've
- 43:54Speaker 1: got a young guy that you could maybe pairfum. That's
- 43:56Speaker 1: an okay place to start the offseason. We can build,
- 43:59Speaker 1: We control raft, we can build around that. But there's
- 44:02Speaker 1: not much there. Let's go to Andrew in La. What's
- 44:05Speaker 1: up Andrew it Worthy? Hey guys, it's Whitworth right. Hey,
- 44:10Speaker 1: man got the Santa Claus but here and everything. No.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I was just gonna say because when Mike was talking
- 44:17Speaker 1: about living in California, I'm a transplant from the East
- 44:20Speaker 1: Coast with my entire family, and it's like amazes me
- 44:24Speaker 1: how much like sometimes misguided and wrong, but Bostonian fans
- 44:30Speaker 1: they know what they're talking about the sports. But out
- 44:33Speaker 1: here it's so different, Like I can go up to
- 44:36Speaker 1: someone and just you know, like casual conversation, I instead
- 44:39Speaker 1: of talking about the weather, talk about sports. And I
- 44:42Speaker 1: hardly follow the Lakers or the Clippers or the Dodgers,
- 44:46Speaker 1: and I know more than like ninety percent of the
- 44:48Speaker 1: people out here. And I know I'm obsessed with sports,
- 44:51Speaker 1: but I only know probably a little bit above average
- 44:54Speaker 1: about sports than the next guy. But it's so shocking
- 44:58Speaker 1: to me how different it is the cultures and how
- 45:01Speaker 1: the East Coast is obsessed with sports and out here
- 45:03Speaker 1: there's so many distractions. And I just it totally spoke
- 45:07Speaker 1: to me because we both lived out on the West Coast,
- 45:09Speaker 1: me and Mike, So it's super true. Though. Yeah, I
- 45:13Speaker 1: had a quick, quick side story. I had a funny experience.
- 45:15Speaker 1: I went to, um, there's a I think it's called
- 45:17Speaker 1: the NFLPA Bowl. There's like it's one of the like
- 45:19Speaker 1: lesser known little bowl games that they do, and it
- 45:21Speaker 1: was one of the first years they did it. They
- 45:22Speaker 1: did it at that stadium in Carson where the Rams
- 45:25Speaker 1: or the Chargers had played for a year and so
- 45:28Speaker 1: before yeah, soccer stadium. So before they did the Bowl,
- 45:31Speaker 1: they had like a media day, and I was like,
- 45:33Speaker 1: I was like, I took the day off work out
- 45:35Speaker 1: of my little blocks, but I put my blogger hat
- 45:37Speaker 1: on and I'm like, oh, an opportunity. I have a
- 45:39Speaker 1: clothing blog. Yeah, So I went down and you know
- 45:42Speaker 1: there were there were some some notable people there. But
- 45:44Speaker 1: the funniest part to me, there were these two crazy
- 45:46Speaker 1: Ram fans, like these guys probably in like their fifties, sixties,
- 45:50Speaker 1: like kind of hippie long like all the old Jerseys everything,
- 45:53Speaker 1: and they are fired up because they want the Rams
- 45:56Speaker 1: back in Los Angeles like you wouldn't believe and I
- 45:58Speaker 1: just I couldn't believe it, like these guys, and they're
- 46:00Speaker 1: like interrupting panels, like solely there for the purpose to
- 46:04Speaker 1: figure out when the Rams could come back, and these
- 46:06Speaker 1: guys could have their team back, the first people I
- 46:08Speaker 1: thought of when the Rams won. But you know, it's
- 46:10Speaker 1: like they are out there, they are They're all some
- 46:12Speaker 1: real fans out there. I think there's like behind our
- 46:15Speaker 1: league hockey teams that have rabid fans and Chard van
- 46:18Speaker 1: Bury treasures Like me and Richard in Northeastern game right exactly,
- 46:22Speaker 1: we were fired up man Raiders span Yeah, you see
- 46:26Speaker 1: more Raiders fans out here than like diehard Rams or
- 46:30Speaker 1: Chargers fans. Yeah, I totally forgot about Chargers. I can't imagine.
- 46:34Speaker 1: But that goes that goes back to I mean that's
- 46:36Speaker 1: northern California. That's a different animal, isn't it. Well, they
- 46:39Speaker 1: were there briefly. No, no, No, I'm saying, like I
- 46:43Speaker 1: think California. If you think of like a diehard California
- 46:46Speaker 1: sports nation, it would be the Raiders, right yeah, and
- 46:50Speaker 1: they originated in northern California. So yeah, I wonder is
- 46:53Speaker 1: it different like that? It's a little bit different the
- 46:55Speaker 1: San Francisco Giants and the Raiders in the forty nine ers.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Are they a different breed than southern California. Yeah, I
- 47:02Speaker 1: got a little more vibe but limited time up in
- 47:04Speaker 1: the north, but I felt a little bit more like
- 47:06Speaker 1: it was like southern California. Yeah, yeah, so cal. I mean,
- 47:10Speaker 1: I don't know how the Chargers lasted as long as
- 47:12Speaker 1: they did, and I'd love to know, you know what
- 47:14Speaker 1: the what the metrics are for support now in LA
- 47:16Speaker 1: for the Chargers, because nothing, nothing. They had more support
- 47:20Speaker 1: in San Diego zero point zero on the Richter sk
- 47:22Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not making that. I mean that's that's
- 47:24Speaker 1: like a stadium done in San Diego because that's a
- 47:28Speaker 1: great four hours from San Diego. So no one's making
- 47:31Speaker 1: that drive. That was that was the question you always answered,
- 47:34Speaker 1: How long is it? Two and a half to five hours,
- 47:37Speaker 1: depends on what, depends on what theme you go. Yeah, hey,
- 47:40Speaker 1: thanks Andrew. I appreciate the perspective from out there. Patty's
- 47:45Speaker 1: an ago on what's up? Patty? They called it fan diago, yes,
- 47:51Speaker 1: which is German? What does that mean? And I won't
- 47:53Speaker 1: finish that thought, but so UM put me in the
- 47:57Speaker 1: camp of I definitely want to to you. But that's
- 48:00Speaker 1: what I've been talking about the last few calls, UM,
- 48:03Speaker 1: But obviously not knowing what's gonna happen with J. C. Jackson,
- 48:08Speaker 1: I'm hoping that they do take a cornerback high with
- 48:11Speaker 1: their first round pick. But UM, had any of you
- 48:14Speaker 1: guys seen any any tape on Christian Watson from North
- 48:18Speaker 1: Dakota State at all? No? No, he um crickets if
- 48:28Speaker 1: twenty nineteen highlights when uh and not granted I just
- 48:31Speaker 1: saw highlights, but like when Trey Lance was their quarterback
- 48:34Speaker 1: and he was throwing them the ball, he looked like good,
- 48:37Speaker 1: like he could separate. And I don't know, if you
- 48:40Speaker 1: look at this past year's highlights, he doesn't doesn't look
- 48:43Speaker 1: like he's getting much separation. I don't know if it's
- 48:45Speaker 1: that got anything to do with him or the quarterbacks
- 48:48Speaker 1: throwing the ball. But I'm just I'm just sort of
- 48:50Speaker 1: spitballing because I know I brought up like Metchi and
- 48:54Speaker 1: wat Jan Dale Robinson, guys that they could possibly get
- 48:57Speaker 1: in the second round, and m I'm I'm with Eldred,
- 49:01Speaker 1: I'm with the first call or too. I want to
- 49:04Speaker 1: see a guy that can that can make some plays,
- 49:07Speaker 1: you know, not just these five yard dump off and
- 49:10Speaker 1: do something with it. Yeah, And I've been saying, I
- 49:14Speaker 1: feel like nikkil Harry has scared me off a little
- 49:16Speaker 1: bit because there's a lot of big receivers in this class. Again,
- 49:19Speaker 1: and you know it's just and then you throw it
- 49:22Speaker 1: on and it's downfield, contest to catch downfield, contest to
- 49:25Speaker 1: catch downfield. You know, Drake London, um Burks from Arkansas,
- 49:30Speaker 1: you know a lot of those guys, says Patty. I
- 49:32Speaker 1: think that's the that's the place I'm kind of struggling
- 49:36Speaker 1: right now, is I want a guy who can get open.
- 49:38Speaker 1: I want a guy who's quick that they can move
- 49:40Speaker 1: around the formation. If he's you know, Will Williams. I mean,
- 49:43Speaker 1: and I wouldn't turn any of these guys down, but
- 49:46Speaker 1: I just think you have to be strategic about it,
- 49:48Speaker 1: knowing what we know about what they're going to be
- 49:49Speaker 1: asked to do here. And you know who's going to
- 49:52Speaker 1: be consistently making plays? Is it? You know the guys
- 49:54Speaker 1: who are gonna you're gonna chuck it down the field,
- 49:56Speaker 1: like you get it. If it's Jamar Chase, great, like yes,
- 49:58Speaker 1: but you know, sometimes these guys are just big bodies
- 50:01Speaker 1: that stretch the field. And I'd rather have a guy
- 50:03Speaker 1: that's gonna catch eighty to one hundred balls and be
- 50:06Speaker 1: the go to guy in third down and gotta have
- 50:08Speaker 1: it moments. A guy who can shake loose and get
- 50:10Speaker 1: open and produce. Yeah, he's describing Jacobe Myers like eight,
- 50:17Speaker 1: you know, some odd passes that you know, like, unless
- 50:19Speaker 1: he's making plays, I need more than that. Yeah, Like
- 50:22Speaker 1: that's my thing. Like I know that everybody has this
- 50:25Speaker 1: romantic vision of the offense when the centerpiece was Welker
- 50:30Speaker 1: and Brown and Edelman. I don't know that this version
- 50:34Speaker 1: of the offense will operate like that. I don't. I
- 50:37Speaker 1: just don't. I don't know that. And I would rather
- 50:39Speaker 1: have a guy who makes life a little bit easier
- 50:41Speaker 1: on Mac Jones. So instead of having to hit Welker
- 50:44Speaker 1: eight times on a drive to get it down inside
- 50:46Speaker 1: the ten. Maybe I can just catch one yea and
- 50:50Speaker 1: pick up a fifty yard chunk with it. I agree
- 50:52Speaker 1: with Mike. I don't need an outside, big deep threat.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That all he that's all he does. I'm not interested
- 50:58Speaker 1: in that. But I am interested in a Jamar Chase
- 51:01Speaker 1: who can catch slants and taking the disc. Jamar Chase
- 51:04Speaker 1: is not a one trick and he doesn't just go
- 51:06Speaker 1: down there. Even those guys like the Bob hayes Is
- 51:09Speaker 1: of the past, there's very few of those in the
- 51:11Speaker 1: league now, even a Jamar Chase who'll go over the middle.
- 51:14Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. He's not a deep threat, right
- 51:18Speaker 1: Like even the deep threats do other things. In today's NFL.
- 51:21Speaker 1: He can get deep, but he does a lot of
- 51:23Speaker 1: other things, and Bob Hayes I do. Yeah, I don't
- 51:28Speaker 1: need a track star. Um. I agree with with Mike
- 51:31Speaker 1: on that on that point. I just I am not
- 51:33Speaker 1: with everybody else that it has to be the way
- 51:36Speaker 1: that they've always done it. They have to get a
- 51:37Speaker 1: guy who's more of a traditional slot guy and throw
- 51:40Speaker 1: the ball to him every play. I don't need I
- 51:42Speaker 1: don't need that unless the guy is great. If if
- 51:45Speaker 1: the guy can make all kinds of guys miss and
- 51:47Speaker 1: make plays after they catch, fine, But I don't need
- 51:51Speaker 1: a guy to catch eighty five passes in averaging nine
- 51:53Speaker 1: point six per per reception. I don't need that. Grab
- 51:57Speaker 1: that already With Jakobe Myers, Grassie asked Burt on Burton Island.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Anyone to know where Burton Island is? You guys are great,
- 52:06Speaker 1: but I have a slight complaint. Whether it's Josh or
- 52:09Speaker 1: b Flow or any other team news, a lot of
- 52:11Speaker 1: times you guys just start in with your takes without
- 52:14Speaker 1: first saying what it is that happened. A week or
- 52:16Speaker 1: two ago, you all started a pining on the nude
- 52:19Speaker 1: to Flake Gates stuff, and I was just thinking, wait,
- 52:22Speaker 1: did you just tell me what actually happened first. I
- 52:26Speaker 1: don't read a newspaper, and I'm not big on social media,
- 52:29Speaker 1: so often I'm relying on humps like you to tell
- 52:32Speaker 1: me what's going on in the world, or at least
- 52:34Speaker 1: in Patriots Nation. Okay, I was on the island. I mean,
- 52:38Speaker 1: you don't know what happened with the flat game. I
- 52:40Speaker 1: think he means the recent years, but I think I
- 52:42Speaker 1: don't even know what he's talking about, but I think
- 52:44Speaker 1: what are we talking? I think about we talk about
- 52:47Speaker 1: a topic. We we always start and then we say
- 52:49Speaker 1: we should catch everybody up. Yeah, maybe we didn't. I
- 52:54Speaker 1: Florio cited uh, you know, you know books by the
- 53:00Speaker 1: Way to promote his book. Um, um, that I mentioned
- 53:02Speaker 1: that Hee's got a book out. Um you know, okay. Yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 1: Florio came out with some stuff about the flake aid
- 53:07Speaker 1: and that the league covered stuff up and so correct. Yes,
- 53:12Speaker 1: I thought we did talk about that. We did, okay,
- 53:16Speaker 1: but you know, feel free to email at the time
- 53:19Speaker 1: and say, hey, what are you guys talking about? And
- 53:21Speaker 1: maybe he listens after the fact. Oh that could be
- 53:24Speaker 1: he could be a podcast listener. Traditional podcast, that's true, um,
- 53:29Speaker 1: Alex writes in looking you never heard of that. That's
- 53:36Speaker 1: a term I made. Traditional tradition, like in the olden days,
- 53:40Speaker 1: when you know podcast like five years ago, a traditional podcast,
- 53:43Speaker 1: you know it is not necessarily meant to be listened
- 53:45Speaker 1: to live download and they're scripted like half hour to
- 53:50Speaker 1: thirty minutes. Very precise. Doesn't interest me. No, Alex and Pentuckett.
- 53:56Speaker 1: I had a thought based on the McVay speculation of
- 53:59Speaker 1: him hiring after winning UM one Super Bowl? What reason
- 54:03Speaker 1: would a coach have to do that. Bill has been
- 54:06Speaker 1: coaching for so long. I don't know fifty million reasons
- 54:10Speaker 1: for it. I find it interesting that after one win
- 54:13Speaker 1: there's speculation he could retire. Is this a new trend
- 54:15Speaker 1: coaches will start to pick up? I would be intrigued
- 54:18Speaker 1: to see what you guys think. If you care about it,
- 54:20Speaker 1: pay him. Yeah, it's a money thing. I think same
- 54:22Speaker 1: with Aaron Donald and his like maybe he already walked
- 54:25Speaker 1: at that, his agents pissed at him. Yeah, but what
- 54:28Speaker 1: do you know, and I thought we talked about this,
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah right, Yeah, I mean some people, you know, speculate
- 54:33Speaker 1: mcveigh's got a sweet deal with a network that he could,
- 54:36Speaker 1: you know, have to work and if if he doesn't
- 54:40Speaker 1: want to coach, he just doesn't have a passion to coach,
- 54:42Speaker 1: then that's that's a whole different thing. Yeah. I think
- 54:44Speaker 1: this is a money ploy. Yeah, me too. Yeah. Other
- 54:48Speaker 1: people speculated that he doesn't see the future of the
- 54:51Speaker 1: Rams being that bright. I can assure you that. Okay,
- 54:56Speaker 1: yesterday he's like imploring everybody to run it back. Yeah right,
- 55:00Speaker 1: there's his favorite expression with that that's Sean McVeigh. I
- 55:06Speaker 1: get I'm coming back, and you can hear the dinner
- 55:09Speaker 1: of the crowd every time he says, run it back.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Who are these guys? What are you doing? What is
- 55:14Speaker 1: this right now? I mean this is this a kickoff?
- 55:16Speaker 1: What are the rams? What is he talking about? Is
- 55:19Speaker 1: there a football game going on? What is this? Uh?
- 55:22Speaker 1: Tony writes in Fred said, sometimes Bill makes a point
- 55:25Speaker 1: to a fault. Well, thank god, he would never do
- 55:28Speaker 1: that in the Super Bowl if, for example, his best
- 55:30Speaker 1: cornerback got into a heated argument with a coach and
- 55:33Speaker 1: then other coaches. At least he wouldn't do that. Is
- 55:35Speaker 1: that what happened? Yeah, we don't know. So I don't remember.
- 55:41Speaker 1: We know we didn't play. It's all speculation. I don't
- 55:43Speaker 1: remember much of that game. We were talking about super
- 55:45Speaker 1: don't remember much of that game. No, I don't know.
- 55:47Speaker 1: I'm back and forth. The last two Super Bowls are
- 55:50Speaker 1: kind of a blur in my mind. And meanwhile, like
- 55:52Speaker 1: I can recall everything in the first, like you know,
- 55:55Speaker 1: bunch of them, but it is different when you're working
- 55:57Speaker 1: it the last, the last super Bowl, the thirteen to three, right, remember,
- 56:01Speaker 1: like not much? Okay, So that that's probably tells me
- 56:04Speaker 1: that you know a lot. You probably thought it was
- 56:06Speaker 1: kind of a dull game, right, you know, I've gotten
- 56:09Speaker 1: asked that before, And I was so in the moment
- 56:12Speaker 1: of the tension that it wasn't really boring eliminate. I
- 56:15Speaker 1: was eliminate the tension. It's a compi game, and I
- 56:18Speaker 1: know that no one cares at all about my low
- 56:20Speaker 1: level college boys. The bean Pot championship game the other
- 56:23Speaker 1: night was as boring a game as I've watched. I'm
- 56:25Speaker 1: still on the edge of my seat. My team's playing
- 56:27Speaker 1: for a championship, right. It was nothing. Nothing. Neither side
- 56:30Speaker 1: had a sniff of offense for the entire game. It
- 56:32Speaker 1: sucked who won? Yeah? What they scored with two minutes left?
- 56:39Speaker 1: Fifty eight minutes of scoreless hockey, Like the game could
- 56:42Speaker 1: go either way, and it was. I'm telling you, it
- 56:46Speaker 1: was as boring as boring could be. Did you throw
- 56:48Speaker 1: your diet pepsi? No? It just wasn't, wasn't it. But anyway,
- 56:55Speaker 1: I didn't really feel like that Super Bowl was like
- 56:59Speaker 1: riveting action other than the fact that it was three
- 57:01Speaker 1: to three in the fourth quarter and the Super Bowl
- 57:04Speaker 1: is hanging in the bounce right. It felt kind of
- 57:06Speaker 1: similar about this game on Sunday. But I got one
- 57:11Speaker 1: guy after another that sucked. That sucked, That sucked, Bengals,
- 57:15Speaker 1: What are they thinking about? That game sucked? It's funny
- 57:19Speaker 1: every time that we talked about it on this show,
- 57:21Speaker 1: about the thirteen to three game, and we mentioned that
- 57:23Speaker 1: we thought it might have been a little boring. Do
- 57:25Speaker 1: you remember how we got attacked? Yeah? What are you
- 57:27Speaker 1: talking about? It was really exciting. I thought it was.
- 57:30Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how you thought that game
- 57:33Speaker 1: was exciting, but you didn't think Sunday was. And I'm
- 57:35Speaker 1: not saying I just said, I'm not saying you individual. Well,
- 57:40Speaker 1: I know, Eric wasn't. I know you listened to my station.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I know you listened to my stations a lot. I'm
- 57:45Speaker 1: being accused. No, no, no, not you. I know, but
- 57:48Speaker 1: I know you listened to my stations a lot. Don't
- 57:50Speaker 1: tell me you didn't hear at one after another that
- 57:52Speaker 1: game sucked. That game sucked. People like to complain, but
- 57:56Speaker 1: god forbid, you said that the Super Bowl fifty whatever
- 57:59Speaker 1: was fifty three was boring. It was a masterpiece of
- 58:02Speaker 1: defensive I'm not going to say that, but hunting prowess
- 58:06Speaker 1: was awful, Like if you didn't care who won, it
- 58:10Speaker 1: was an awful game. I'll bring up an interesting one
- 58:12Speaker 1: I saw on Twitter a little twitt that was going
- 58:16Speaker 1: on tweets when they fight. Somebody brought up the point
- 58:22Speaker 1: of Dante Scarnekia how it was a genius coaching in
- 58:26Speaker 1: that Super Bowl to eliminate Aaron Donald, to make him
- 58:30Speaker 1: a genius, to make him a non factor. Whatever they
- 58:32Speaker 1: did was genius, And somebody brought up the point. Yeah,
- 58:37Speaker 1: but they did it at a cost. They they had
- 58:40Speaker 1: so much effort to eliminate Aaron Donald that they only
- 58:43Speaker 1: couldn't score scoring thirteen points. And people just attacked this person.
- 58:48Speaker 1: And he wasn't a blue check mark or anybody. They
- 58:51Speaker 1: just attacked this person. I was like, hey, that's kind
- 58:53Speaker 1: of a good point right now. It worked, so yeah,
- 58:56Speaker 1: But I would say the same thing about the Super
- 58:58Speaker 1: Bowl in Seattle. Do you know what the number one
- 59:01Speaker 1: goal in that Super Bowl was stop Michael Bennett? Yeah?
- 59:05Speaker 1: He dominated the game, right, you won? No one cares, right, right,
- 59:10Speaker 1: that's I mean. The coaches are not idiots for the
- 59:14Speaker 1: most part. Do they make mistakes, They all do, but
- 59:17Speaker 1: of course they said. They went into that game and
- 59:19Speaker 1: they said, we can't let Aaron Donald dominate this game
- 59:22Speaker 1: and disrupt it. But the Rams defense dominated the game
- 59:26Speaker 1: and disrupted it. Yeah, just like the Patriots defense dominated
- 59:29Speaker 1: the game and disrub Right. Like if if if the
- 59:31Speaker 1: Patriots had done everything offensively that they did to you know,
- 59:35Speaker 1: defend Donald put up thirteen points and the Rams put
- 59:38Speaker 1: up thirty, nobody would be talking about what a genius
- 59:40Speaker 1: movement was. But took your Aaron Donald out? Yeah? Right.
- 59:44Speaker 1: And you know who had a good game that day,
- 59:46Speaker 1: as much as I hate him is Sue. Yeah, he
- 59:48Speaker 1: made some plays in that game. Yeah, So I thought
- 59:52Speaker 1: it was a decent point by this person, and everyone
- 59:54Speaker 1: just attacked him. They're not saying that Dante Scarnecki's plan
- 59:58Speaker 1: didn't work, right, it did. You took out Aaron Donald,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: But at what costs? Right? You know? I feel like
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I'm on Paul side of the street because I'm like,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: give credit to Joe Tooney and the offensive line and
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: those guys that that executed. I mean, Dante' what's he
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: drawing up? It's not um and and the same point,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: the same two of you, and and and despite all times,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: you know, despite all that, it still came down to
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: one or two plays and easily be to Fred's point,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: there's ten minutes left in the game and you had
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: three points. So what good is it that you dominated
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Aaron Donald? Which, by the way, you didn't dominate him.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: He just didn't take the game. Old, he just didn't
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: make the two plays he made at the end of
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: this Super Bowl, and that's you know, and they made
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the ground catch that you know that that that's kind
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: of like to Eric's point, if you you know, if
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: you like, there were some games against Houston that they
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: did that to J. J. Watt, but they won the game,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: like thirty seven to fourteen, right, Okay, that's a little different, yeah,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: or Clay Matthews or whatever. You know. Yeah, no, I
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: thought I just thought that was interesting, you know, but
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: people just weren't listening to this guy, and you don't
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: know who the guy was. He wasn't a Blue which
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: poor guy got killed. A rational point. The Patriots did
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: an excellent job on Aaron Donald, and that's yeah, I'm
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: not suggesting that there was there was some people defending
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: him finally, but you know, yeah, I just thought it
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: was an interesting discussion, you know, they have people. People
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: don't like to be told something that might go against
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: what they think, and then people can't really take a
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: moment and you can still say it was a great
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: win because you know, your defense held the defense this
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: good team to three. The Patriots dominated. Patriots defense dominated
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: that game. Yeah, well that's what the game to me was.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I knew it was going to come down. That's what
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: you're hanging by a thread, knowing who's gonna make the
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: one play that's going to decide this game. And I mean,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: and they did, you know, Ronk Gronk? Yeah, that's it?
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Uh jacket and aba? Given what Mike and when you
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: given that he's one of the five Patriots listed in
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: PFF's top one hundred and one players, why wasn't Big
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Mike a start last season? Do you predict that? And
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: when you will be a starter in twenty twenty two?
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: And if so, what position? That's a good question. I
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: was just writing up the the free agent previews and
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that was kind of something to dive into because I
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: think he feeds into both Trent Brown's right tackle spot
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: in and Carriss's left guards. I guess his left guard, Yeah,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: but I don't know who's gonna leave. Maybe Carris stays,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: I mean Brown leaves. I can make a case for
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Brown in. And so you don't think they'll resign Trent Brown? No, No,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Why do I just think it's too much? He might
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: be too much. Why wasn't it too much last year? Well,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: they had more money last year. I was under contract
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: and he was. Yeah, they traded for him so and
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: they had room for so his old contract, right, yeah,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: And I mean he didn't have a tiny contract. But
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I mean by the way he played half the season again,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: like that's what he does. I know. But so I
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: think he'd be affordable. I think they could take him.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I'd take both Carris in him back. I would take
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: him back, take him back. That's a different arm. I
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: think I don't take him, and I think I think
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I think they both will. I just think they have
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: so many needs that they're going to have to prioritize.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: And I don't know how. I think Carris has a
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: chance to come back, but I do too. I Paris,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: I would cash in because I think he played well.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I think he's got value. Trent Brown could be back
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: because I don't think he has any value. Yeah, And
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: that's where I'm at. I mean, he played half the season,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: He's hurt a lot. He seemed to really like being here.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: He's been elsewhere, he's gotten paid before, he's really liked it.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Anything cash dude too. He looks like he's lazy. I
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: know he's a Patriot. In two months, we can all say,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: we can all call him lazy. I'll be here for you.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: I don't know that he's lazy. I another story that
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: I heard. You know, there's rumors out there about Tom
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: and Giselle having trouble. I guess, okay magazine had this
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: big again. Yeah. Yeah. But then on the other hand,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Gronk's girlfriend she's telling him keep playing, and I thought
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: that was interesting. They don't they you know, they're not
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: married yet, they don't have kids. So she's like, no, no, no,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: keep this thing going. You know, like I'm wondering if
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: she's thinking more about herself than him and telling him, yeah, exactly,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: my acting career is still doesn't need this. No, she
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: doesn't need she don't need nothing. Yeah, she could sit
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: in the house the rest of her life. She wanted
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: to um Andre from New Jersey going back to the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Super Bowl. I really, I'm really hoping for a Malcolm
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Butler miracle when the Rams threw the ball from the
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: one yard line, but unfortunately didn't work out that way. Now, question,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: do you think a teams try to follow what the
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Rams did by throwing away picks and going after veteran
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: disgruntled players. Do you think teams will follow that roadmap?
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: I think there's more trading in general than there ever
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: has been. Yeah, among good players. Yeah, I think so.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: I mean I like that, I do. Yeah. I mean
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I think it's you know, there's risks, and I think
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: it's challenging. I mean, I'm very curious how they how
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: they maintain it. I think the picks that they still
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: have are very very important and they need to keep
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: the pipeline going. And that's what we've seen here. I also,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: you know, credit Sean McVeigh for I mean, that was
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: what I was joking about during the season, was all
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: these you know, big personalities and bringing them all together,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: getting them to play their best games. I think that
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: that's tough, and I think a lot of times that
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: you know, backfires where you put together these super teams.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: But they did a great job managing it, and you know,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: I'm sure teams will continue to take the chance. But
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: what I what I don't like is the bloh mentality
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: of all of it, Like, see, that's why you can't
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: do X, and in general terms, it's more than one
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: way to do with those things. The reason that people
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: say it can't work is not the reason it didn't work. Now,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: there are times where you put together a dream team
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: and the chemistry doesn't work, and that is part of it.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: But Eagles like trading first round picks to acquire established players.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: It's not like a foolish way to go about you
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: but you know why it work taking a guy that
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: you know can do it. But you know why it
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: worked is because they hit on enough third and fourth
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: round picks to augment the established stars they had and
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: to make up for the fact that they weren't getting
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: first rounders. So there's a there's like a structure in place.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Also with the Patriots can't get Calvin Ridley this offseason,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: would you take Jalen Rieger likely least um less costly
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and playing with a better QB and better coach might
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: work out for him? Is he where would that happen?
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: All over? I thought he was still Yeah, he's not
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: he's like a second or something. He's like two years
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: into his deal. Yeah right, he was a he was
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: a free he was a rookie. Remember seeing him at
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: the at the combine. I thought, right, well, he had
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: a great um, he had great joint practices against us.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I know he did. I know he didn't have it.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I know he didn't have a good year. Well there
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: you go. Maybe they saw him the joint practices. People
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: are gonna have to come to grips with the fact
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: that Tom Brady is not here anymore because like the
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: whole like, oh he comes with a better quarterback? I mean,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: is he Yes? Then who whoever hurts yes? H yeah,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: didn't didn't play over him? Uh? Fron in Hollywood, California? Right, friend,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Zimbolist Junior? Yeah, what insights could Patriots unfiltered shair to
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: whats listeners to give Matt grows hiring a three on
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: the Richter scale? Didn't Ziegler have various jobs with the
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Patriots before being hired for the GM position by the Raiders. Secondly,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: why isn't Brian Flores being considered as a defensive coordinator
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: for the Patriots. Hasn't Belichick stressed on numerous occasions that
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: he made moves based on what's best for the Patriots.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: All Right, A lot to unpack here, right, Why I
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: said it was three on the Richter Scaley you asked me.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: I didn't mean that like his influence on the team
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: or his role. I meant like, as a news story.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: It's not like breaking news. Matt grow has been element No,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: like for all we know, it could mean a lot,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: you know, down you know, for the team. So I
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: was just talking about as a news story. He's been
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: here since I think twenty ten ish somewhere around there,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: and he's risen up the rank, says many play a
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: personnel people do coaches do in this organization. So now, now,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: if for the next ten years the Patriots have the
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: best drafts in the NFL, I'll say, okay, that was
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: huge because I would assume that he had a big
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: role in that. You know. Yeah, my fear with Grow
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: as he's been here a while and hadn't really been
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: a manager. This is like the first time he's going
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: to step into a role that he's in and I
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: worry about that for a guy who's been around as
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: long as he has. Guys that were younger than him
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: have left the organization to lead other teams. Yeah, and
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: he was like an area scout two years ago. Yeah,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: that's what worries me about mac grow. The second question
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: is why haven't we talked about it or why aren't
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: they considering Florists as far as we know, to be
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: defensive coordinator? All right, that's that's a loaded one too.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: First of all, does he even want to be a
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: defensive coordinator? I don't. I probably not. Second of all,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: he's got a lawsuit pending with the league, and Bill
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Belichick is a big part of that. And we don't
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: know what Bill's response was to that whole thing out,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: you know, the whole email texting and all that. Well,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: I thought, um Flores, initially, I didn't think there was anything,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: you know, in terms of Flora's Belichick relationship, until he
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: criticized Belichick for being a big part of the Giants,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Like that's part of the problem, right. I thought that
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: that part of it I thought brought Bill negatively into
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: the story, not the text chain, right. But I don't
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: know if maybe you know, I think Bill has overlooked
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: stuff like that in the past. But your first point
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: is the one that I would stand by. Does anybody
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: know if Brian Flores wants to be a defensive coordinator
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: right now? Right? I would think that would be an
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: insult to him based on his lawsuit, right, you know? Yeah,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: but he might figure like all the head coaching jobs
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: are taken, maybe he wants just to have a job. Yeah,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: so he would take it. I mean it's not but
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: wouldn't it be smarter for him to focus on the
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: on the lawsuit probably and sit it out, regroup. You're
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: getting paid anyway, probably. I just I'm just going by,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: you know what. You often see you off and see
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: people just rushed to take whatever job is all I know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: But not with a lawsuit. Pen No, it's different, not
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: the same, not the same, Paul. To answer your question,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Ziggler was three years as assistant director of pro Scouting,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: then four years as director of Pro Personnel, before last
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: year assuming director of player Personnel. So he had been
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: in a management position. Yeah, and what a grow grow
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: grow grow got to the college scouting director last year, right,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: one first year right? Oh, and Ziegler was hired by
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: McDaniels back in Denver. That's how he got into the
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: like they were roommates. At that John Carroll School. Uh
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: grow was eleven seasons. Uh served two as a National scout,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: six as an area scout. Um Scott started as a
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: scouting assistant for two years. And yeah, he's paid his dues,
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: but but he hasn't been managing. Yeah. It's like sometimes
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you want to like, why has he been there that
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: long and hasn't really risen to anything higher than that? Yeah,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden and the other part
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: of it, I'm gonna throw this out there and people
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: can criticize me. It's another last name guy. Yeah, it's
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Alcohol's son. You know, like it's another thing I don't
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: like about it. Well, Elliott Wolf was Ron Wolf's son,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: and you know, Dave Ziegler is the Ziegler's son. I
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: think that's why. I think that's why this guy got
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: the promotion over Elliot Wolf, because I think Elliot Wolf
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: is probably already he's already gone, was close to leaving
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: this year, right. Ken writes in about the game the
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Super Bowl, I should say the game is only exciting
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: if you care. Every NFL fans say, every NFL fan
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: has some convoluted equation in their head about who they
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: want to win. In any particular game if you really
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: don't care about the outcome. It's like watching some European
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: snowboarder in the Olympics. You admire the athleticism, but then
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: you forget about it two seconds later. So that's why
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I always do the gymnastics to figure out who I hate,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: so I can have an interest. I told and I
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: had a hard time with that this one, but I do.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I do the mental I'm with friend. I told you
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: that story all the time about random high school games
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: that I covered five minutes in. I think it. Somebody
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: does something, someone does something I didn't like, and I
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: root for the other team. Feel hockey player looked at me, weird,
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: I'm rooting against her. Hum. Let's see David in Wisconsin
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: right soon. Paul, I know you said on Tuesday Show
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: to draft a wide receiver in round two or three
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: with two healthy acls in that there will be equality
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: wide receivers in those rounds. However, do you trust Bill
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: to draft one of those receivers Harry versus Samuel or Brown?
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Gives me pause? He will do that. Perhaps that is
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: why the big push last offseason was signing receivers and
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: tight ends. I can see a trade down from twenty one,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: sorry Eric, for a pick later in the first round
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: and a pick with an additional pick in the second
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: or third round. Yeah. I can't base my projections on
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: what Bill has missed or hit on in the past.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Like I can't say, well, they picked Harry, look at
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: how that turned out, and say, well, never pick a
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: wide receiver again, right, they never picked Ronk if that
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: was the case, they would never pick a cornerback. Look
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: at all the cornerbacks they've taken in the second round
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: that have missed, right, Cyrus Jones, Jewan Williams, Duke Dawson.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: That's just like in the last five years, Terrence Wheatley,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: you know, going back a little bit ROSSI Dowling, Like
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: they've missed on a lot of high picks at cornerback.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: I think corner is one of their biggest needs. I
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: wouldn't say don't take Derek Stinkley because they missed on
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Duke Dawson, right, Yeah, Yeah, that not that Derek Stingley
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: was gonna be a Bill about twenty one. He's probably
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: not going to be. But you just got to judge
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: the the guys that they that are available, and who
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: do you like, and but I gotta admit I'm a
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: little bit scared bndiculary Bye. That's more the type of
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: receiver that just felt outside the I wonder what that
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: discussion sounded like, you know, when they were looking at
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: wide receivers and they picked Harry. Well, Michael Lombardy I
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: think gave a little bit of insight into it with
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: his like rant about what he thought Harry would be,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: which was anything like giant could do play I know
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: and anybody that's the argument for obviously, but there was
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: there a dissenting voice in the room saying, no, he's
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: he's not gonna be that, you know, right, because there
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: was also the scouting report that he doesn't get separation.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: That was very that was repeated by a lot of
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: these experts, that that's his drawback. He doesn't get separation.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: That's a big drawback. You know, if you can't get
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: separation in college, right, how you do? And that's just
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: what scares me. And nothing against any of these guys,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: but just and and I always start with the highlights
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: just because I want to know what does this guy do? Great?
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: WHI show me what he is at his best and
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: when it is literally all just downfield and he's bigger
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: than the other guy and he jumps up and catches
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: the ball. It's it's just not inspiring that all right.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I know you're telling me that this guy is an
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: absolute athletic freak, but like I just would like to
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: see him catch a ball and take it to the
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: house from five yards out or you know those kind
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: of plays even like like the play that Chase made
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl um that got them down to
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: like one hand. Yeah, I mean tremendous, like he was covered,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: well it was a little overthrown and he separated the
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: last minute. Made that ridiculous great. You know, like I
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: think carry can make that play. You do, I do.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: But we're talking about like making a play and then
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: running with it after getting separation because there wasn't a
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: lot of separation on that play. It was a great
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: throw too, It was a great throw. But I think
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: like Chase at the last minute made a tremendous burst together.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: What I mean, I think Harry can make those plays occasionally.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I mean we see him every now and then, but
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: we're talking on a consistent basis being able to set
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: open and it's give me something pull away from somebody. Yeah,
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: run over, somebody do something other than just downfield, and
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: the guy's draped all over and you, because your four
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: inch is bigger than him and more athletic, we're able
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: to get the pall or when you do make the play,

- 1:26:29Speaker 1: you're gonna lose somebody here. Maybe mister Paul, he's gonna
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: go over and get himself a new job. Yeah, Paul's
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: gonna be the new U. Zero point zero percent chance
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: of that. They can't Afford. Just wow. I think you
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: two are great together. That's why I love that podcast.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: Thanks Paul and Andy Show. Oh my god, that would
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: be great. Paul, we're talking drive Taull couldn't work for
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: Andy Drive Time. That would replace never work, that would
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: replace the Big Oh Show. Absolutely probably. So did they
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: think last much to me Brandon? By any chance? What's that?
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: Did they think Nikil Harry would be like a Brandon LaFell?
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: I hope, I hope they thought they took him in
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: the first round. They should have hoped they would be
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: better than that. Yeah, because that's all I can see him.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: And I don't even know if he can make it
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: up to Brandon LaFell, Like, I don't think that's I
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: don't think he's He's not even close to. I know
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: I'd take Brandon Lafel all day, and that was a
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: good player. Yeah, But I'm with Fred. They thought more
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: of Nikil Harry in the draft, or they wouldn't have
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: taken him in the first round. Right, So this one's
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: totally forduced. The other guys can chime in. So I
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: was looking at all the draft pit stuff and over,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: and I know that he liked or he chose Devin Lloyd,
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: But man, doesn't he like Jordan David Douce, Jordan Davis.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: You see the size of that man and see what
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: he did to the old line. You want a defensive
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: tackle like that? Yeah, I know, I know, it's surprising, right,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: it's surprising. Yeah, you can't get them anywhere. And yeah,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: he's a big dude. I think there are other you know,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: tackles that that you can get. I mean, he's he
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: be a game changer. I just think they need too much.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: And how much is he really going to impact passing
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: down you know, at least out of the gate, Probably
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: not much. But I definitely think he's a He's a
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: guy to consider. But I think there are other, you know,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: other guys down there down the line them that might
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: fit that hoole a little bit better. But you know, again,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: you got a lot of defensive tackles coming back in Barmore,
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: so I don't know if it lines up. Thanks Todd.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: Appreciate real quick, Freddy, because I don't know when I'm
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: going to get the call to have to go and
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: do all access. Oh yeah, you got your shiny shirt on.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: I do. I just wanted to oh, put put a
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: button on, put it, put a ball on the Okays, Yeah,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: Mike Paul Fred all went one and all Eric oh
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: and one. Yeah. Well the spread, however, Eric one and all,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Mike Paul Fred, the men are separated from the boys.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: So here are the playoff standings about MVP final. Somebody
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: I'll get to that. Shut up you, Fred, Paul nine
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: and four. Good solid, good solid, good solid records, especially
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: considering all the road teams that won in the playoffs.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: Mike seven and six, Eric six and seven. I spent
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: all my energy in the regular season, and I tell you,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: biggest regular season in NFL history at eighteen weeks. They
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: have to pick, and I survived and I beat you
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: both ways. All is if we if we include the
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: postseason because he keeps the book correct with the spread.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Paul eight and five not my strength. Fred seven and six,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: good job, you were close to me. Eric six and
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: seven and Mike much like the regular season four and
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: nine consistent, consistent, four and nine. So that's uh oh,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I got screwed. My guy didn't win despite
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: throwing a Patrick If Patrick Mahomes had done that, thinking
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: guarantee for sure three touchdowns in a no look pass
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: he would have gotten the MVP, but Mike picked Cooper Cup.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: There you go, you go feel for something, um, and
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I would say super. Both Paul and Fred had guys
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: that were in the running. I had Stafford, Fred had
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Donald Donald, so definitely could have been Joe Burrow. Yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: you're the Tiger. So the scores, um, no one was
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: particularly close. Eric was the closest. He had Bengals thirty
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: to twenty six. But you lose points for getting the
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: wrong team right. Yes, okay. Mike had twenty seven seventeen,
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: I had thirty seventeen and Fred had thirty five fourteen,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: So no one was particularly I think it would have
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: been what I said, if they had their Fred, you
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: could play him my side of the street. I wasn't exact,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I wasn't entirely wrong. I was onto something. Um. Okay,
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: let's get back to the phones. Thank you for that update, Paul,

- 1:31:18Speaker 1: here rocking the coke spoon as well? What. I don't
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: have a cokespoon. No, no, no, not, And in fairness,

- 1:31:43Speaker 1: I've never heard of that. I didn't heard. I never
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: heard of A coach had a list of veterans that
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I think are all free agents. I was just gonna
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: name them off, and one by one, you guys say
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: whether or not you think they're coming back. Let's do it. Um.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: I got a Devin mccordy, yes, no, yes, yeah, okay,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: two and two, two and two yep, two, okay, yeah,

- 1:32:14Speaker 1: I'm Jase Jackson, No no, yes, three to one, Matt
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: Later yes, um, yes, where's he gonna go retire? I know,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: but I'm gonna say no, he's not gonna I'm gonna
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: say now, okay, let's say yes. Yes, even though I
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: love your brown cool Trump Brown. I'm gonna Brown. I mean,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: I'll say yes. It's kind of convincing. No, I'm gonna
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: say no. Okay, and James White the last one I got. Yeah,
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: I'll say yes. I'm gonna say yes. M yep, you
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: don't got nobody, Yeah, Leader, every everybody was no on
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: High Power and we only had one yes on Trent Brown.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: Is that correct? That's correct? Yeah? Yeah, two yes, Yeah,
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: I mean I said yes, Yeah, I'd like to out
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: with the super Bowl got over last week and I
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: think he has a riot. I think there's just gonna

- 1:33:21Speaker 1: little bit, but obviously not that big of a deal. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: we'll get we'll get back there, Brandon, don't worry. I
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: wonder what the dynamic with High Tower is. I mean's
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: got to go, He's got the call. There's the High
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: Tower wants to come back. They want him back Bullpen,
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: there's you know, high Tower wants to come back. They
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: don't want him back, and then the High Tower doesn't
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: want to come back, and they don't want him to
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: come back, you know. So I just I wonder what
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: exactly does he want to keep playing? Do they want him?
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: I don't. You know. The reason I say a hard
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: no is because he's always talked about money openly. I
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: ain't playing for free, yeah, and they're not gonna pay
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: him no, you know. I just don't think that it's
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: going to come together where he's going to be willing
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: to pay what they are willing to pay him to
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: play for what they would someone else. Would someone else
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: pay him? That's that's a good question. Well maybe, but
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: we're just talking about coming back to the Patriots, right,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: not to the NFL. Yeah, you know, And so I
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: just don't think so now. And I do think there's
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: a world where, you know, you want them back just
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: for at least, you know, some kind of role. I
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: don't know if it would be the same, but it's
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: it's a tough call. It's just you respect those guys
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: so much. It's hard to talk about. YEP. It is
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: Sean's in Vancouver. Hey Sean, Hey guys, I'm wondering how
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: useful it is to really speculate about the draft at
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: this point before free agency, because it really is a
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: wide range of needs in terms of where they can be,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: and we don't know what's going to happen in free agency.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: We know they don't have the money that they had
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: last year, and there are a lot of free agency
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: free agents like Bentley and and Folk and you know
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: Carrists and Jacy Jackson and Trent Brown. It we don't
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: know if they can even bring those guys back around,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: how many or which, So I think I'd like to
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: focus on free agency first. Then maybe we could figure
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: out what their real needs are if if it changes
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: at all. But I hate to tell you other than
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: resigning their own free agents, it's going to be the
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: opposite of last year. You'll be lucky to get one guy,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: you know, like, that's that's notable. Yeah, yeah, but it's
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: it's a it's a good point, I think, And that's
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: something I always try to keep track of when I
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: would like plan my writing and offseason like analysis. It's
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: you know, don't get too crazy on the draft before
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: I don't know who they're going to sign. Well, I
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: don't pay attention to it, but we get after the
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: after free agency. But that's when I really start diving
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: into you know who these guys are because a lot
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: of things can change. Yeah, yeah, I agree with you there,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: and there could be some trades as well, and exactly. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: that's a good that's a good point. You could be
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: all in on, like, oh, we got to get a cornerback.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: I get a cornerback. But then they sign a cornerback
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: and free agency like, there goes your there goes your
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: mock draft, right ye, Roger from Saint Louis right saying
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: I currently live in Saint Louis, and I can tell
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: you that this place he's talking about sports fandom. Yeah,
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: that this place had to be the biggest Bengals fan
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: base on Sunday outside of Cincinnati. They hate the Rams
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: here more than the rest of the NFC West combined.
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: But going back to sports fandom across the country, Boston
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: fans fascinate me. I lived in Chicago for a bit
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: before here, and anytime a team in that city had
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: a good week, you'd think that Jordan came back in
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: one another ring, where if a buston team does well
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: for months, the fans still talk about how things are
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: going terribly. Just a funny dichotomy between those teams in cities.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: My working theory is that sports fandom gradually decreases intensity
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: as you move east to west across the country. It
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: might be something to that. Yeah, I believe that. That's say,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: that's the bust the negativity. And there's also a difference
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: in what sports they're passionate about. I'll give you an
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: ex by region the furthermost corner Seattle Rabbit not just
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: not just for the football team, but for their soccer
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: that well, that's that. That's my point too. It's like
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: different regions have different sports that they're passionate about. You know,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: the South that tends to be more college football than
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: pro sports. Yeah, you know, Seattle's is a great example
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: of a of a passionate fan base for whatever their
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: team is. You know, I think now they got the Kraken.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: I don't know how passionate they are about hockey if
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: they're in the Pacific Northwest. But the soccer team is
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: like the biggest drawing soccer team for whole games. They
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: have a parade through the city to the stadium. The
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: think Paul's not here. Yeah, it's like Tennessee does that
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: kind of thing. They have like a ruch across the bridge. Yea.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: In Seattle, like they go nuts for the sound of Sounders.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I said, I have two games there. It
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: was awesome, awesome, super passionate. And they play in the
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: Seahawks Stadium. Yeah, it's all right there anyway. I mean
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: the Mariners play right around the corner too. I mean it's,
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: you know, one of those well thought out I mean,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: it's just so different from here because it's in the
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: middle of the city. So you know, that was what's
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: crazy means like to go to a bar in downtown
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: Seattle and then all right, let's walk over to the game. Now,
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: it's not like are we gonna drive down to Forrestborough Park,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: you know all that you gotta go through here. Yep.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: Ramon Rights and he some Tampa has some random questions
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: if we were able to defeat the eighty five Bears,
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: what would that have done for our legacy? Oh wow, wow,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: that's an old school question I would have liked to get.
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: I'd like to get pp and on that one, well,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: it's totally a different time too, because there wasn't free
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: agency back then, so it's not like you could have
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: been like, oh, we can attract all everyone want to
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: come and play here, like you still had like yours. Right,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: Let's think of a team that flashed in the pan,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: you know, was kind of a one super Bowl team
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: because I don't think if they had won that game,
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: it meant that they were going to keep on winning
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: because they didn't have a quarterback right, Tony Easton was
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: not right, you know, that guy that was going to
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: lead to a multiple win. The offense still would have
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: looked as Yeah, I'll tell you what happened though, it
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: would not necessarily the franchisees legacy, but it would have
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: helped a lot of those players legacy, like tipp would
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: have gotten in the halls a great point, you know,
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: other guys would have had more respect. Yeah, that's a
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: good that's a very good point. Yeah. Yeah, And maybe
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: I mean all the turmoil though with ownership and maybe
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: that happened five years later, maybe that gets delayed a
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: little bit. Maybe, Yeah, but I still think they're probably
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: a flash in the pan. Yeah, had a playoff runs?
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: Is there a big more revenue, so that the Sullivan's
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: don't like, does the Michael Jackson Tour never happened? I know,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: all of a sudden, they's got all these new advertisers,
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: you know, so it could have changed. Maybe it would
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: have delayed the inevitable, you know, like maybe those kind
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: of problems still would have come up. But that's a
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: good question. But I mean you went, you know what,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: that's a good TV series? Yeah? What if TV series?
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: What if you change one thing in history and what
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: happens after? Yeah, and you take different right subjects, and
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: because well, I just have to say that juxtaposed that,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: what happens if they win against the Giants? Right? I know,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: those two different things. Like you've got the eighty five Bears,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: who were, oh they weren't undefeated, but they were as
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: close to it as you could have gotten, and they
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: finished off that incredible season. Now they look in retrospect like, oh,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: that forty six defense. Yeah, and then they go and
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: lose to the Patriots and the Super Bowl, right right,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: like they would have been less impressive. I think in retrospect,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: just like the oh seven Patriots looked like, well they
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: were the superstar offense. Yeah, but then they lost to
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: the Giants. Like and now you have Brady's one from
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: his from his show that he just put out talking
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: about how motivating that was for the second half of
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: his career. I think I'll pitch this to Apple plus yeah,
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: plus it out. We'll get this up twelve parts. What
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: what what what if? What if? Uh? Yeah? Would would
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: they have? Would they have gone on to win three
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: more seventy? I don't think so, because I think ownership
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: plays so much a part, you know, continued success, like
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: any you know the Saints with the Benson. Yeah, the
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: Benson you know, they won one, but they haven't won since.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: And you know, you can win. Every team can win once.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: But to do it like the Patriots did, you gotta
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: have from the top. Yeah, you gotta be solid, yeah
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: for over the long term. Right. It's funny too, how
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: different it would like talking about what if between O
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: seven and eleven Because the O seven team was stacked
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: and awesome and probably one of the greatest teams in
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: NFL history, even though they didn't win the Super Bowl.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: But then that eleven team, if they had won, they
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: weren't really that great, So it's kind of two different.
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: I would have been very similar to the twenty seventeen team,
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: where the offense could light it up and the defense
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: was terrible. Yeah, but you know, do you come out
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: of that in the NFL's like defense doesn't matter anymore.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: Just get an offense or just get Tom Brady and yeah,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: you just just get the grettest player ever. Another one
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: of his random questions. That was a good one. If
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: we could have drafted a pair of brothers, which one
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: would you want? The Watts, the Digs or the Bosses.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: Oh that's a good one. Jeez, I gotta I'm probably
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: gonna go wait Tho Digs or Macho Digs because you
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: get something from both sides of the ball. Yeah, that's
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: not bad. Yeah, I mean wat defense. I think the
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: Watts defense though J. J. Watts a lot. I would
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: take a lot. I think I would take the Watts. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: that's a lot of wattage. One, Matt, you know what
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: was coming? He's back? And what would you prefer? A
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: division realignment or a schedule shake up? What does he
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: mean by a schedule shake up? I like as far
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: as like like the schedule formula formula. I don't I
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: don't neither, I don't know I like I like the division.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: I like having close geographical rivals. I think that all
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: matches up pretty well. And um, I don't Yeah, I
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: don't know. Well, you know, back in the day, you know, uh,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: these teams didn't have charter planes and all that stuff,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: you know when they you know, thirty years ago or whatever.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: But now they do and travels a lot easier. What
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: do you think of every year have a lottery for
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: the schedule too, and you have no idea who you're
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: gonna play until you have that lottery, and you could
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: be playing anybody. That's fun, you know, And you bring
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: that up and now I I there's a certain part
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: of me that like everything's kind of like we know
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: who they're gonna play. There's something exciting though. If they
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: did that, like time time schedule reveal is like a
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: real reveal, you'd also have to throw away the whole division,
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: so you wouldn't have a division. Well, you'd have to Yeah,
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: you'd have to do just two conferences and you can
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: play you have two lotteries, one for your conference games
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: and then one for your out of conference games, and
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: then you're seated for the playoffs. You know, I don't
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: know kind of fun. I mean, so you can talk
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: about one through one through seven and one through seven. Yeah,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: and both conferences conferences regardless of there wouldn't be no divisions, right,
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: so you're still playing the same amount of conference games
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: that you do now. Yeah, but it's random you don't
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: know who. Yeah, I mean you have to be like
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: a major computer that can spit out the whole thing
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: and it all fits and makes sense. I mean I
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: know that that's all kinds of algorithms of trying to
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: piece together so it all works out and nobody gets
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I got into a twist on Twitter about the draft,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: same thing. I said, screw this whole worst the first thing,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: you know, And it doesn't always work that way. So
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: just have a lottery for the draft every year, yea,
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: and for every round. So so in theory, the Rams,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: who just won the Super Bowl could have the first
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: overall pick. Yeah, imagine and you do it live though,
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: and people, well, that's not fair, you know. But what
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: I think what will happen is, especially in the Rams case,
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: where you have a quarterback, and in years where the
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: number one pick is an obvious quarterback, if that happens,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: where a team like the Rams gets the first pick,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: there's going to be trading. It will It will actually
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: encourage more trading because teams that are good, that are
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: at the top will say no, I'll trade down get
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: more picks. I think it'll make the draft more exciting.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: A lot of people are like, oh, it's not fair,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: but screw that. I think pause against. It doesn't help
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: the Jets to pick first every year. We chatted about
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: this alliance to take the receivers all those years. I
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: think it was waste these guys around the flooresting. You
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: might have been out of the show for a minute,
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: but we kind of talked about this and I brought
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: up like, is there away and Paul had said, oh,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: that's a fred thing. Um, I would at least be
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: on board with just the top ten, just to make
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: it take it out of the NBA. Yeah, like, you know,
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: just to put a little bit like you still have
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: some kind of power structure. It's not like the Wow,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: Wow West, where you who's picking next? Like I mean,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: but that's fun. I mean just to think like who's Cincinnati?
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: You got that? Like all right? U. And even if
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: you say like, well, it's not good to have it
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: on the day that the draft is, so have it
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: a month earlier. So now you have another event. Ye,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: full draft, full week, and so I have a month
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: where I do know where I'm picking. But before that,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: I don't know. Primetime television advertising. I think I think
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: that this whole the worst team. And also in the
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: reason I thought of this is because of the whole tanking. Yeah,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: you know we know teams tank. Sure, so now there'll
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: be less in SENTI to tank if you can be oh,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: in seventeen with no guarantee, you're gonna have a ticket
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: even in the top sixteen. So there's no one scentive
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: to tank it. So you take that off the table. Yeah,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: do it. It makes total sense to me. I'd love
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: to hear this table, Matt. And they'll destroy that too.
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: What is this, Patriots, I'm not gonna listen to two hours?
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Good will get it. He'll destroy it. I just said that.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Oh you did. Yes, I like it better than Fred said. Thanks,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: mich Um. All right, good, so we got that figured out.
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: Good question, we're solving problems. He I like it. We
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: should write that forward thinking Yeah, yeah, blog treatment, blog
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Treatment'll do a treatment that in the what if show? Yeah,
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: I think we've come. You know, I think we've started
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: side Baker can make money, can make money off of it.
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: All we needed to do was get Paul out of
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: the room. I know so much more. He's gonna come
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: back in and tell us why they're terrible ideas, and
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: then we'll be like, you're right, and then we'll walk
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: up to the office with head and shame. Like Rooral Wasser.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: The most memorable thing about him as the way he walked.
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: Somehow he'll live in infamy. Yeh. Let's see. I thought
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: this was about what this guy's gonna have a little
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: riff on him number five and I know Ohio state,
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: but he just I heard somebody call him like the
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: highest floor of the receivers. I know that'll drive people
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: nuts that are listening to this right now. But just
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: an all around really good receiver, tough, big, strong, all everything.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: I mean, you know, maybe not the high super smoothness
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: that Olave has or that, but I mean some people
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: like him, you know, the top two or three guys.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: It's all over the place though these these it's early still,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Oh I know, I know. I mean Drake, this guy,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: Drake London from USC He's one that all over the place.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: Some people got him as the top guy. Other people
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: album wait until they combine overreacts happen. My god, he
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: performed so great. Well it'll be me and Paul. You
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: see the size of his arms. Thirty one bench must
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: be great. Adam writes in from Dublin very quickly. You
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: guys are the best performing unit in Foxborough, so keep
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: it up. I think I know what your answers will be.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: But would you I would like to hear you tease
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: it out to understand where Max's potential truly lies. What
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: asset would you would help you understand this quicker Julian
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: Edelman slash Westwelker clone as a short distance, shifty receiver
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: or a brick wall left tackle who keeps them clean
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: all year eyed op for the receiver, because having to
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: learn under duress is no bad thing. What do you
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: think at the receiver? Yeah, I mean the receiver. I
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: think there's just like a baseline of offensive protection that
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: you need to get to and then you're kind of
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: all right, if it's is it better than that whatever?
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: But and we saw it halfway through the season. They
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: kind of fixed the protection issues for the most party,
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: and he was able to get the ball away and
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: do what he wanted to do. So and I just
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: I want to say this though, because I think we
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: kind of got in this territory with Paul earlier in
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: the show where it's you know, it doesn't have to
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: be Wes Welker, Like I think like people have a
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: connotation of just being this like mid round, small, quick short,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: you know, slot receiver. I want Dion Branch, I want
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: Troy Brown. I want guys who are versatile, who can
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: move around. It's not the traditional slot guy. It's just
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: a guy that can do a bunch of things and
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: get open quick right. And you know, yeah, it doesn't
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: mean that, oh he's only gonna play on third downs
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: and he's gonna be inside. Uh. You know, I'm fine
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: with Jacobe Myers and that, and I think, you know,
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: Paul Paul is right and as far as his point
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: with Jacobe, but I just think it's more that Dion
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: kind of guy that his go to can catch and
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: he can catch everywhere on the field, and he's not
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: just the one trick slots receiver pony. And he's also
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: not the Philip door set I'm gonna run, you know,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: Brandon Cooks I'm gonna play the X outside. I'm either
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: going to run a comeback or a go and maybe
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: draw a pass interference that that that I don't want it.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I want a guy who can do it all and
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: move around. Let's see. Lorenzo writes in now that we're
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: in the off season, I wanted to get your opinions
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: on a would you rather for the Patriots? All hypothetical,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: but would love to hear your thoughts on what the
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Patriots would benefit from more. Would you rather have a
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: a ball hawk safety or an in the box safety?
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Think Ed Read versus Troy Palomalo ball hawk Paul safety
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: or him. I've been putting some thought into this, Eric,
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: if you're asking me whether I want Ed Reid or
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Troy Palomalo, Yeah right, Um yeah, I mean it's uh.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: I just I think the free safety is a little
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: bit of an easier position to Phil, Like you could
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: get a Deron Harman to kind of do what d
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: Mac did or you know what they've both done. Um,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: I just I think. I mean the way the Patriots
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: are constituted, I think they put such value into guys
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: like Dugger and Phillips, who can who can do it
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: both m And I wonder if those guys are harder
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: to find. I mean, at least what they've been kind
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: of signaling is those guys have value when you need
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: to go and get them. And you know, when you
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: find one like Phillips, extend him. And you know, if
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: you think you have one and dugger, go small school,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: go get him. Um, I don't know, I might go
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: that way. Here's the thing. You know, you talk about Edwardid,
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: he's the ultimate ball Hawks safety, right, but there's a
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: big drop off after that. How many other ball Hawks
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: safeties are really effective doing that? Yeah? You know, like
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: the Seattle guy you know, what was his name, M L.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Thomas Thomas Now he was one. But they're yeah, they're
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: they're hard to find guys that are that smart. On
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: the back end. You don't want jam well, Jamal Adams
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Now I would take Jamal Adams, yeah, because usually you
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: don't want your safety just doing anything you know is
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: a good overall defensive player. Yeah, I mean, it's just
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: it's there. There's nobody compares to Ed Reid. Who can
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: you know, with with his positioning, dare quarterbacks into throws
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: and and you know pick them off a pass rushing
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: defensive tackle or a run stuff or think uh the
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Dominican Sue Verse, Vince Wilfork pass rush, Yeah, pass rushing.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: It's the passing you need. You need, guys, do you
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: need a bar more before you need a Jordan Davis. Look,
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: that's how the Super Bowls decided. Like the Bengals did
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: a pretty good job keeping the pressure away and then
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: at the end when they needed it most, Donald makes
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: the play and the game is over. And I think
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: the strength of Sue in his prime was it was both. Yeah,
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: exactly exactly if you can do both, right, I mean
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: that's Donald, I Aaron d take Aaron Donald, right right?
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I I can't day a dynamic linebacker or a pass
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: rushing defensive end. Think Luke Keiklely or Nick Bosas type
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: I love I love me some I take I take
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: the Keikly really. Yeah, he's all over the field. Yeah,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: it's a it's a tough because I could I can
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: say the pass rusher you need, pass rush you got
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: and you know, usually when you have those guys like
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: keikle Oh he's a tackling machine. He's got two hundred tackles. Yeah,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: but how many are behind? Yeah? But I'm also assuming
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: that I've got other things, and I think I'm leaning
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: towards you, like I think I might might be there
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: just because he controls the whole defense, and you know
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: that that's that's a part of it. But I think
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: there's also the edge setting component of the defensive ends up.
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: That's a good question, it is. And finally, an offensive
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: coordinator that is innovative or one that is a master
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: of a system. Think Sean McVay versus Sean Payton. M
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: innovative or master has a system that he's known for,
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: like a Dick le Beau, or he's more defense. Right. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: but I a coordinator, I see what you're saying. Yeah,
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean I think you need both
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: a little bit of a guy. Yeah, someone who have
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: something that he believes in but also can continue to
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: evolve with the league. At this point, I prefer an
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: offensive coordinator who can coach up a quarterback to it.
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: And yes, and I think that's probably where a lot
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: of Patriots fans all right now, where it's like you enough,
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: who the thinking can we just put something simple where
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: everyone gets it and can play fast? You know? That's
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: what I think people are kind of itching for it
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: a little bit, Neil writes, in the entire show has
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: been about issues with roster, who plays, who doesn't, Why
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: are recent drafts of fail, lack of backup plans, and
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: on and on. How much do you think that is
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: being driven by Belichick's pursuit of the record. Playing young
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: players might result in going six and eleven instead of
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: ten and seven. If that were the case, that makes
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: it harder slash longer for the seventy year old coach
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: to break the record. So here is an insane question.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: If another team came to you and offered three first
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: round picks for your seventy year old coach, and Bill
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: was willing to waive his no trade clause, would you
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: do it? I think it could be a win win.
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: I have a team in mind that plays in a
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: city that rhymes with alice. Three first round picks, Well,
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: there are I mean, there are a few teams that
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: I mean, well, it wouldn't be three first round picks
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: this year, but there are a few teams that have
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: three picks this year. I believe. Yeah, well, what you know,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: they don't have to be this year. They could be. No,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: I know that's what I'm saying. But it would be
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: great if it was all this year. Yeah. But if
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: you think Bill Belichick is a good coach, even if
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: you do covet the three first round picks the team,
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: he's gonna make that team better and then those picks
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: are going to be low. Yeah you know. Yeah, but
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: I mean how long how long does he have? Are
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: you gonna be having a first round pick when he's
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: out of the league, like you know, Um, this was
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: a new angle for me. Something I didn't really know
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: until I think I got here was this. Um was
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: the angle that Bill Belichick's main motivation in life is
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: just to break that record. Like I never really heard
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: that before. Yeah, never heard that. A lot of people
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: just say that like it's fact. Well, and I don't
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: think it because it's because he's getting closer to it. Yeah.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: I think people are assuming that that's why he's hanging on,
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: because he has also said I'm not coaching into my
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: seventies like Marv Levy. Well, two months from now, he's
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: going to be seventy. Yeah, so it's time to put
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: up a shut up. Yeah, I just into my seventies. Eric.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: That could be technically he turned seventy. I know, he's
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: a man of his words. To part that's maybe seventy
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: seventy one seventy two aren't ease, Yeah, yeah they are.
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: Yeah you're sixty nine, you're not seventy. Yeah. I don't know.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: But if he's gonna get the record, he's got to
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: win games like immediately. So yeah, you know, I think,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: like I always just admire his short term focus of
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: what he what he preaches. So I don't know, I
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: just people seem like that's all that consumes him, almost
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: like as if he like will lose games if that
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: helps him break the record, if you know what I mean,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: Like that sounds stupid. It sounds like he just wants
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: to break the record. I mean, he doesn't even care
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: who he drafts. He just wants to win a bunch
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: of games. Like what. I don't think. So I don't really,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I'm sure like, hey, that'll
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: be nice if when it comes, but I he wants
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: to win games. The Eagles. The Eagles have three first
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: round picks this year, not crazy, fifteen, sixteen, and nineteen. Wow,
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: that's that's some heavy artillery. Like what if the Eagles
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: came to you and said, we will give you these
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: picks for Bill Bell, Bill Belichick. I'd be ballsy by them,
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: almost almost if I had. If Josh McDaniel's on the
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: staff and I really thought that he was the Arab
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: I was the crafts, I would say, now's the time
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: you start with a new coach and four first round picks,
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: because you have your own too. I mean, the only
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: reason I consider it is just that three first round
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: picks are going to be here for a while. Rechange
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: your whole team for the next decade. Like I said,
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: if I had the guy identified right now, I would
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: do it, But right now I wouldn't because I don't
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: have that guy and there's no one better than Belichick,
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: right And that's and that's like what I keep coming
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: back to. If like, you know the people, you know,
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: I get people are you know, sick of some aspects,
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: but like, like is it really gonna make you happy
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: to get rid of Bill Belichick? And then somebody like
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel comes in, that's like, all right, now we
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: die this guy from San Francisco, Well, he got debo working,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: Like I'm sure he's gonna find something like that. That
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: that's the point where I think everyone's gonna be like,
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: oh wow, Belichick's gone, and we're just nobody really seems
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: to care now, Like I just kind of in the
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: I mean, you think it's Tom Brady's the greatest ever,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: and it's it's gonna be it's tough moving on from him,
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: But so is Bill Belichick. Yeah, and you know, and
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be really tough moving on from him, right,
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: And the same people who are lamenting getting rid of
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: Brady too soon, it's like, well, do you do you
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: want to? Like, I know, it hasn't been perfect the
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: last few years around here, but it's at least interesting.
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: I mean, this guy is certainly well established and has
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: a plan and is trying to do it, so well,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: what would you rather watch? And I could argue that
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: there's probably more good quarterbacks when you look at current
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the NFL in the draft available every year
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: than really good head coaches. Yeah, you know for sure,
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: for sure, because the real good ones aren't available, right,
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: and so you're taking a chance on guys who really
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: are haven't proved and you never really know, at least
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: with the draft you've seen like production, but like with
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel or you know, and not to pick on him,
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: just anybody, like, right, what do you really know until
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: he gets in there and he does it. You know,
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: Sean McVeigh has done a good job and being able
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: to do it. But those those are, those are It's
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: crazy to think McVeigh is still the youngest coach in
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: the league and he's been in the league for a
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: while now. Yeah, that's how young he was when he
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: was hired. Yeah, Zoe had a good impression to him
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: the other day on the radio. Zoe. Yeah, it was
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: it was you wouldn't expect an impression from Zoe, but
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: it was. It was pretty good. So it's pretty good. Yeah,
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: it's um, he could do impression. He kept going to
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: like it wasn't just a little like, oh that was funny.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: He was working it. It's funny. All right. That's gonna
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: be it for this edition of Patriots on Filter Sans
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: paul Um. We'll be back next week see what happens
