- 0:45Speaker 5: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Provide more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:17Speaker 6: To your stations, we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:22Speaker 7: Chief, I'm gonna come.
- 1:25Speaker 1: At you like a spider monkey!
- 1:31Speaker 2: What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian. I'm Jacqueline.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I'm David.
- 1:36Speaker 2: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:38Speaker 2: Grendel and Zuzu's House of Fun. Except when Grendel's showing
- 1:41Speaker 2: her teeth and being kind of a jerk.
- 1:45Speaker 6: She's just a beautiful xenomorph baby.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Sure it's not the plant genes? Maybe it's just the food.
- 1:50Speaker 3: You add food to any element and animals will completely change.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Well, if.
- 1:54Speaker 6: No, she's still like that.
- 1:56Speaker 2: She's just kind of a jerk sometimes.
- 1:59Speaker 6: It's just kind of whenever Zuzu gets close to me
- 2:02Speaker 6: in general. If he gets too close. Or even if
- 2:05Speaker 6: I'm not around, sometimes he gets too close to her
- 2:08Speaker 6: and she's just like, get the fuck up.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Out of my space. I mean, again, if you're listening
- 2:14Speaker 2: a long time to the Super Series, you hear this
- 2:16Speaker 2: update every once in a while of what's going on
- 2:18Speaker 2: with Grendel and Zuzu. Zuzu's the nicest dog ever. And
- 2:23Speaker 2: then there's Grendel, who we all love.
- 2:25Speaker 6: Zuzu has a personality. To be fair, Grendel is rich
- 2:30Speaker 6: with personality. She is the strangest human trapped in a
- 2:35Speaker 6: dog body that I've ever known.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I'm not arguing any of these, actually. That's pretty accurate.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Zuzu's just the nicest dog.
- 2:41Speaker 6: But she's just cranky. She's a cranky old bitch. I
- 2:45Speaker 6: love her.
- 2:47Speaker 2: We all love her.
- 2:48Speaker 6: I'm sure that the podcast has captured her grunts.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. If you've been listening, you've heard her making
- 2:54Speaker 2: weird noises on the mic before.
- 2:56Speaker 6: She has an entire language. Most dogs will make some sounds.
- 3:01Speaker 6: They'll make a.
- 3:02Speaker 8: Or.
- 3:04Speaker 6: I'm like, Grendel has syllables. She makes sentences. She has
- 3:10Speaker 6: a whole cadence to her sentences.
- 3:12Speaker 2: She's like. Now you've become fluent, obviously.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Do you speak back? And does she like acknowledge that
- 3:21Speaker 2: you're doing it right? Or is she like, what the
- 3:23Speaker 2: fuck did you just say?
- 3:24Speaker 6: She knows. I know what she's saying. And she knows
- 3:27Speaker 6: what I'm saying. Usually I don't get it right when
- 3:30Speaker 6: I know. Like, she's like, I'm like, okay. I know
- 3:34Speaker 6: that you need me to get up and go to
- 3:35Speaker 6: the kitchen for something. I don't know if that's water.
- 3:38Speaker 6: I don't know if that's food. I don't know if
- 3:40Speaker 6: you're trying to get a treat. I don't know if
- 3:42Speaker 6: you want to go outside. But I know that you're
- 3:43Speaker 6: trying to get.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Me in that room. I like mine's just yelling at
- 3:47Speaker 2: them all day. It's like, no, no, stop.
- 3:50Speaker 10: Stop it.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I mean, it's the closest, I guess, to parenting I'm
- 3:54Speaker 2: ever going to have. Don't, no, don't do that. Don't, no,
- 3:56Speaker 2: get over here. Stop. Watch where you're going. Don't run
- 3:59Speaker 2: your face into things. It's sad how many times I
- 4:02Speaker 2: have to be like, don't run your face into things.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Protect your face.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 4:07Speaker 2: He constantly just turns around and rams his face into
- 4:10Speaker 2: stuff and doesn't even flinch. I'm just like. guess you're
- 4:14Speaker 2: good with it like the other dog knows not to
- 4:17Speaker 2: do that but he just like doesn't yeah most of
- 4:20Speaker 2: my days just nope stop it what no why like
- 4:27Speaker 2: so yeah dog updates that's what this episode is really
- 4:30Speaker 2: about she's still alive everybody yeah last time we we
- 4:34Speaker 2: got the medical update so.
- 4:35Speaker 6: Got the medical update she's fine she'll never die well
- 4:40Speaker 6: i mean her her bodily form will perish But she'll
- 4:44Speaker 6: haunt me for the rest of her life.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure.
- 4:46Speaker 6: For the rest of my life, anyways.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 4:53Speaker 3: She doesn't like being documented.
- 4:54Speaker 2: She doesn't like being documented. You can't remove him.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Don't break the facade.
- 4:57Speaker 2: She's like Bigfoot.
- 4:59Speaker 6: She is a cryptid. Literally, my dog is a cryptid.
- 5:03Speaker 2: That's kind of... Yeah, I'll give you that one.
- 5:08Speaker 5: All right.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So, obviously, from the dog updates, the Super Series is back.
- 5:13Speaker 2: continue on and i did want to this this occurred
- 5:17Speaker 2: to me recently because as i've mentioned many a time
- 5:20Speaker 2: in the last year or so that i opted to
- 5:23Speaker 2: not get cable because it's a ripoff i watch a
- 5:26Speaker 2: lot of me tv now and as i'm like i
- 5:28Speaker 2: am like they make such a big deal out of
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know the the mcu and the fact that everybody
- 5:33Speaker 2: wants to do the shared universe the the conjuring's doing
- 5:37Speaker 2: it and i think blumhouse wants to do it i
- 5:39Speaker 2: was like you know You guys think you're being all
- 5:42Speaker 2: cutting edge, but let's go back to Petticoat Junction, Green Acres,
- 5:48Speaker 2: Beverly Hillbillies are all a shared universe. They have characters
- 5:52Speaker 2: that cross over, sometimes week to week. Like two of
- 5:56Speaker 2: the three have people that are in every episode almost
- 5:59Speaker 2: that are the same actor. And it's like one town
- 6:03Speaker 2: over and it's all one big.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Did they run at the same time though? Because I
- 6:06Speaker 3: was thinking in my head, I was trying to think
- 6:07Speaker 3: of examples.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They became like spinoffs of each other.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I was thinking, you know, you have like Cheers and
- 6:11Speaker 3: then Frasier. But I was like, was there a time
- 6:13Speaker 3: where these shows were at the same time instead of
- 6:15Speaker 3: being spinoffs of each other?
- 6:16Speaker 2: I had to check and see because I never paid
- 6:18Speaker 2: that much attention to Petticoat Junction, which now it's on
- 6:20Speaker 2: and I'm just like, well, these girls are cute. I
- 6:23Speaker 2: think I see how this show got made. Like it's
- 6:25Speaker 2: just three girls in a small town and they're super hot.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And I'm like, okay, well, here's the sales pitch back
- 6:29Speaker 2: in the day. but um i think it was the
- 6:32Speaker 2: original win and i think then they spun the other
- 6:34Speaker 2: two off of that one but they all were kind
- 6:36Speaker 2: of successful so they were all on at the same
- 6:39Speaker 2: time it just was like a little longer from one
- 6:41Speaker 2: to the other but yeah so at the same time
- 6:44Speaker 2: it had these same characters crossing over so you guys
- 6:48Speaker 2: think it's all cutting edge but back in the day
- 6:50Speaker 2: before there was a rocket raccoon there was an arnold
- 6:53Speaker 2: ziffle and if you don't know who that is google
- 6:56Speaker 2: that up because it's That's something I just realized. This
- 7:02Speaker 2: was on TV every week. National television. Arnold Ziffel was
- 7:07Speaker 2: a beloved character. So anyway, that's the things I.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You're really not going to tell us who Arnold Ziffel is?
- 7:15Speaker 2: He's a pig.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Is it the pig from Green Acres?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And again, much like Grendel here, he talks and has
- 7:23Speaker 2: his own language. And everyone else, well, at least his
- 7:26Speaker 2: owner and the wife understand him and have conversations with him.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And I'm just like, he was a regular character on
- 7:33Speaker 2: that show. And I'm like, this was on TV.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Primetime television it's kind of a staple of that agenda
- 7:37Speaker 3: right because you have Lassie you have Mr. Ed you
- 7:39Speaker 3: have all these animals that but the other ones were
- 7:41Speaker 3: like normal dogs that were just kind of like super
- 7:44Speaker 3: smart but like Arnold they treated him like again his
- 7:47Speaker 3: name's Arnold they like treated him like a human character
- 7:52Speaker 3: except he was a pig and he just it didn't
- 7:54Speaker 3: have a cheesy voiceover person it was just pig grunts
- 7:58Speaker 3: And everybody else acted like they knew what he said.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And I'm still like, this was a show. And it's
- 8:04Speaker 2: not bad. I mean, Ava Gabor, you know.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Man, looking at TV today, you can't even make accusations
- 8:09Speaker 3: like that. TV today is so ridiculous.
- 8:11Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So, again, I watch it now and I'm just like, see? Like,
- 8:15Speaker 2: they were ahead of the curve on this Hootersville, as
- 8:19Speaker 2: she puts it.
- 8:22Speaker 6: There are no more original thoughts. No.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Green Acres came up with all. We're all just living
- 8:29Speaker 2: in Green Acre's shadow. All right. I guess we should
- 8:35Speaker 2: get to it.
- 8:36Speaker 11: Get more out of life. Go out to.
- 8:45Speaker 2: A movie. Everywhere I go, I see his face.
- 8:53Speaker 7: I just really miss him.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I miss him too.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I don't think Tony would have done what he did
- 9:02Speaker 3: if he didn't know that you were gonna be here
- 9:04Speaker 3: after he was gone.
- 9:13Speaker 11: You gonna be the next Iron Man now?
- 9:14Speaker 7: Well, no, I don't have time. I'm too busy doing
- 9:16Speaker 7: your jobs. What?
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Look, keep up the good work.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Because I am going on vacation. Heads up.
- 9:26Speaker 11: Nick Fury's calling you.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I don't really want to talk to Nick Fury.
- 9:29Speaker 7: Answer the phone.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Why?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Because if you don't talk to him, then I have
- 9:32Speaker 2: to talk to him. I don't want to talk to him.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You sent Nick Fury to voicemail? I gotta go. You
- 9:36Speaker 2: do not ghost Nick Fury.
- 9:38Speaker 4: What up, dorks?
- 9:39Speaker 7: What's up?
- 9:39Speaker 2: We're just talking about the trip. I'm here in St.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Marco Polo's.
- 9:43Speaker 7: Oh, I think MJ really likes me.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Reminds me of when I first fell in love. You're
- 9:48Speaker 2: a very difficult person to contact, Spider-Man.
- 9:55Speaker 11: This is Mr.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Beck.
- 9:57Speaker 7: Who could have used someone like you on my world?
- 9:59Speaker 2: Your world?
- 10:00Speaker 11: Beck is from Earth, just not ours.
- 10:02Speaker 2: A snap to our hole in our dimension.
- 10:05Speaker 7: You're saying there's a multiverse?
- 10:07Speaker 2: We have a job to do, and you're coming with us.
- 10:14Speaker 2: There's got to be someone else you can use. What
- 10:15Speaker 2: about Thor?
- 10:16Speaker 7: Off-world. Captain Marvel?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Unavailable.
- 10:20Speaker 7: But I'm just a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Bitch, please.
- 10:25Speaker 2: You've been to space.
- 10:27Speaker 10: What do you want, Peter?
- 10:30Speaker 2: I want to go back on my trip with the
- 10:31Speaker 2: girl who I really.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Like and tell her how I feel.
- 10:34Speaker 8: MJ, I.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Am Spider-Man.
- 10:36Speaker 5: No.
- 10:37Speaker 6: Of course I'm not.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I mean, it's kind of obvious.
- 10:41Speaker 3: You're right.
- 10:41Speaker 7: You may not be ready. But this is my responsibility.
- 10:44Speaker 10: Saving the world requires sacrifice. Sometimes people die.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I just always feel like I'm putting my friends in danger.
- 10:56Speaker 2: The world needs the next Iron Man.
- 11:01Speaker 11: Are you going to step up or not?
- 11:03Speaker 4: I gotta get you guys out of here.
- 11:16Speaker 7: Get on the jet.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Who are you?
- 11:17Speaker 2: I work with Spider-Man. You work for Spider-Man? I work
- 11:20Speaker 2: with Spider-Man, not for Spider-Man. New plan! So, once again,
- 11:27Speaker 2: because it's a fancy new superhero movie, we went out
- 11:29Speaker 2: on the town. So this week's out on the town
- 11:32Speaker 2: feature is The Adventures of Night Monkey. Oh, no, wait.
- 11:36Speaker 2: All right, I'm jumping ahead. This week's movie is Spider-Man
- 11:40Speaker 2: colon Far From Home. The year is obviously 2019. The
- 11:45Speaker 2: director is John Watts. And the plot, according to IMDb,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I read it earlier, it's pretty standard. Following the events
- 11:54Speaker 2: of Avengers colon in-game, Spider-Man must step up and take
- 11:59Speaker 2: on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Spoiler alert. We're going to run the hell out of this.
- 12:05Speaker 2: So hopefully by now.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Definitely spoilers.
- 12:08Speaker 2: You've seen it. And obviously some people have. This is
- 12:12Speaker 2: the other thing I was like, maybe before we even
- 12:14Speaker 2: get into the like plot stuff. Did you see like
- 12:18Speaker 2: how much money it made? Like I really assumed going
- 12:21Speaker 2: in that it was like, Because, I mean, they even
- 12:25Speaker 2: have the fact that we have the term of, like,
- 12:28Speaker 2: franchise fatigue. And, like, even the biggest. I mean, the
- 12:32Speaker 2: fact that Star Wars had one that didn't go well.
- 12:35Speaker 10: You know?
- 12:36Speaker 2: I'm like, you can't imagine that. So coming off of
- 12:40Speaker 2: the one-two punch of both the Avengers movies and the
- 12:43Speaker 2: last one making a bajillion dollars and, like, all of
- 12:46Speaker 2: this stuff.
- 12:47Speaker 3: It's still technically in the theaters because they brought it back.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Literally was still doing two shows a day and i'm
- 12:53Speaker 3: like it's literally literally on top of other movies yeah
- 12:57Speaker 3: like we didn't that's.
- 12:58Speaker 2: That's what i was thinking like i i thought that
- 13:00Speaker 2: when i watched the last one because when i walked
- 13:02Speaker 2: in to see avengers they were still playing captain marvel
- 13:07Speaker 2: in the same theater so i was like they're constantly
- 13:10Speaker 2: like i think they're putting them closer and closer together
- 13:13Speaker 2: i And that's another thing that I was like, I
- 13:15Speaker 2: don't know if that one's going to step on the other.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's like if everybody went and saw Avengers Endgame and
- 13:20Speaker 2: now they're just like, all right, well, I need a
- 13:23Speaker 2: break now, you know, and I'll come back in a
- 13:24Speaker 2: couple of years and watch some more superhero movies. But,
- 13:27Speaker 2: it uh as of today in this recording it has
- 13:31Speaker 2: made more than 600 million dollars oh my gosh and
- 13:35Speaker 2: is i know i had no idea it was making
- 13:37Speaker 2: i was like i was going to be low i
- 13:39Speaker 2: thought you were going to shoot low here i didn't
- 13:41Speaker 2: know it was going to be i assumed it was
- 13:42Speaker 2: going to win the weekend but it as of today
- 13:45Speaker 2: now granted it started early because of the july 4th
- 13:48Speaker 2: thing so it's had a couple extra days but 600
- 13:51Speaker 2: million now and they're still like projecting it'll make a
- 13:53Speaker 2: billion global and i'm like for the movie after endgame
- 13:58Speaker 2: that's not at all serious compared to that one that's
- 14:01Speaker 2: a total different tone that really everybody should have kind
- 14:05Speaker 2: of been like maybe i'll catch it on red box
- 14:09Speaker 2: or whatever like it's still pulling so i don't know
- 14:11Speaker 2: i was just like i didn't expect.
- 14:13Speaker 3: I expected to be successful but i didn't think it
- 14:15Speaker 3: was gonna do that well that's that's what i thought.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And i didn't even again i they i guess weren't
- 14:20Speaker 2: really discussing it i just went to get the information
- 14:23Speaker 2: there from imdb and the first thing it brought up
- 14:25Speaker 2: was just like spider-man breaks records and like is destined
- 14:29Speaker 2: to do one billion dollars and i'm just like wait
- 14:31Speaker 2: what so Yeah, I did not.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Sony must be stoked.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Seriously, Sony must be so happy. They were like, we
- 14:38Speaker 2: made the best decision ever. Remember when nobody gave a
- 14:43Speaker 2: shit about us? Remember when we were going bankrupt? Just
- 14:45Speaker 2: think if they hadn't.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Wasted the five years with the Andrew Garfield stuff. If
- 14:49Speaker 3: you guys would have got in earlier, just imagine how
- 14:51Speaker 3: much more integrated it could have been. We probably wouldn't
- 14:53Speaker 3: have Tom Holland, but.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Which I think is key, really. I think that's part of.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I do really like him as Peter.
- 15:00Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 2: And that's what I was trying to decide. I was like,
- 15:03Speaker 2: what is it about this one that's worked? Because both
- 15:06Speaker 2: have done really well. All four that he's been in now,
- 15:09Speaker 2: he's like a super favorite character. So it's like, I
- 15:11Speaker 2: think so much of it is he's just so earnest
- 15:15Speaker 2: and lovable. And he is very genuine that you kind
- 15:19Speaker 2: of need from Peter Parker. But it's also a different...
- 15:22Speaker 2: Because I felt like they kind of did a great
- 15:24Speaker 2: job with the Toby casting. But I don't know. There's
- 15:28Speaker 2: something maybe even more realistic and genuine. Maybe because he's
- 15:31Speaker 2: also a little younger that you're kind of a little
- 15:34Speaker 2: more endeared to him. But I don't know. There's something
- 15:37Speaker 2: about Tom Holland. But I do wonder if it's a
- 15:39Speaker 2: timing thing too. Like if it really did start. If
- 15:43Speaker 2: they got the rights to it early on and somewhere after...
- 15:45Speaker 2: the Hulk movie, they did a Spider-Man and people were like, hmm, no.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I just try to imagine, you know, if he would
- 15:52Speaker 3: have had his origin movie before Civil War, it would
- 15:55Speaker 3: have been more fluid, you know, if he would have
- 15:57Speaker 3: had one or two in before. Not that it hurts anything,
- 16:00Speaker 3: but just in my head, it's like, you know, going
- 16:03Speaker 3: back to that guy that was frustrated with Sony for
- 16:06Speaker 3: like a decade, you know, other than the Spider-Man, Raimi's
- 16:08Speaker 3: Spider-Man 2 is still golden to me, but most of
- 16:11Speaker 3: those others are just like, please.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Do a good Spider-Man. Yeah. That was the other thing
- 16:16Speaker 2: they said. This is now set to, which is weird
- 16:19Speaker 2: because I assumed Homecoming made a fortune. They said this
- 16:22Speaker 2: one is going to definitely surpass that, but is also
- 16:25Speaker 2: going to become the highest grossing Spider-Man movie ever.
- 16:30Speaker 6: Oh, wow.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Which Spider-Man 3, the 2007 Spider-Man 3. Was the highest
- 16:36Speaker 2: grossing Spider-Man movie.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Up until this point.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Because after two, everyone thought this is so good. And
- 16:39Speaker 2: that's usually how it is. It's just going to get better.
- 16:42Speaker 2: It's never the first movie because they just get him
- 16:44Speaker 2: in the door and they build everybody's hopes up. And
- 16:46Speaker 2: then it's usually the second or sometimes the weird off
- 16:49Speaker 2: third one that makes all the money. And like, that's
- 16:51Speaker 2: what it was for Amy.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Yeah. It's ironic how that works out. How like sometimes
- 16:58Speaker 3: the wrong movie gets the money.
- 17:00Speaker 2: A lot of times. It's the way it works, so.
- 17:05Speaker 2: So all that out of the way, where do we
- 17:08Speaker 2: want to actually get into this Spider-Fest?
- 17:13Speaker 3: Quick general impressions?
- 17:15Speaker 2: I got the impression before we started you weren't as
- 17:18Speaker 2: thrilled with this as some previous Marvels. By no means
- 17:21Speaker 2: is it.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Bad, but in my head, it goes right with Iron
- 17:25Speaker 3: Man 2 and Thor 2. It's like, this is fine,
- 17:28Speaker 3: but there's something about this that's just not connecting with me,
- 17:31Speaker 3: and I just feel like it's fine.
- 17:33Speaker 6: It's kind of like there are no stakes.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 6: So as soon as I left, the movie left me.
- 17:39Speaker 6: There was no lasting impression. It's just, all right, that
- 17:44Speaker 6: was a couple hours of my life.
- 17:45Speaker 3: The stingers were the most important thing to me. Or
- 17:48Speaker 3: the most, I don't know, I guess the thing that
- 17:50Speaker 3: got me the most excited out of the whole movie.
- 17:52Speaker 3: You know, there was some, and I found, even though
- 17:54Speaker 3: I just saw it today, so I haven't had a
- 17:56Speaker 3: ton of time to think about it, but just, I
- 17:58Speaker 3: found myself in the movie asking myself.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Why am I not more into this? And I think
- 18:05Speaker 2: everything is great.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I just think it's literally the script, not the plot,
- 18:08Speaker 3: not the outline, just literally the things being said. Almost
- 18:12Speaker 3: none of the jokes landed for me. So all of
- 18:14Speaker 3: it just felt like childish rambling.
- 18:17Speaker 2: None of the jokes.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Peter Tingle was probably the only thing that made me laugh.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Peter Tingle's pretty funny.
- 18:21Speaker 3: But everything else is just like, this is just, it's
- 18:23Speaker 3: like a bad super bad for the first hour of
- 18:25Speaker 3: kids being kids awkwardly. And just maybe I'm just old.
- 18:29Speaker 3: So I've seen this so many times. I'm like, This
- 18:31Speaker 3: is the same immature ramblings of kids, but get into
- 18:36Speaker 3: the Spider-Man stuff now.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Just him and MJ for the first half and his
- 18:42Speaker 3: whole struggle to try to talk to her, I was
- 18:44Speaker 3: just not feeling it. And the humor was not connecting.
- 18:46Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 18:48Speaker 3: The plot was just thin. I don't know.
- 18:51Speaker 2: It took me.
- 18:51Speaker 6: I agree with the jokes. The jokes didn't land for
- 18:53Speaker 6: me either. I can't describe what those are, but when...
- 18:59Speaker 6: Like a joke doesn't land and they're like.
- 19:01Speaker 2: You get it?
- 19:01Speaker 6: And it's just like, stop. Just stop doing that.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I don't even remember that many deliberate jokes. I feel
- 19:09Speaker 2: like most of it was just their whatever goofy characters
- 19:13Speaker 2: we have there. Other than, well, I guess the Martin
- 19:16Speaker 2: star is nothing but jokes. Everything to do with him.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Well, for instance, the teachers. The teachers were constantly meant
- 19:24Speaker 3: to be funny. There's no way you're telling me that
- 19:25Speaker 3: was like, seriously like they're constantly meant to get a
- 19:28Speaker 3: laugh or a chuckle or something like and i was
- 19:30Speaker 3: just like these are dumbest most annoying.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Teachers it's both of those actors though and that's what
- 19:35Speaker 2: i do think martin star is really funny i get
- 19:38Speaker 2: again they just maybe overdid because i liked him just
- 19:41Speaker 2: the little bit we got in that first movie i
- 19:43Speaker 2: thought he was funny here it's like there was so
- 19:45Speaker 2: much of him i was like maybe we shot too
- 19:47Speaker 2: far i'm just like i don't but the jay smooth
- 19:50Speaker 2: thing i don't i don't get like not just in
- 19:53Speaker 2: this movie like in general like does anybody know where
- 19:56Speaker 2: he came from i just remember him becoming like suddenly
- 20:00Speaker 2: he was on every tv show he became like a
- 20:03Speaker 2: name almost overnight i was just like how the how
- 20:06Speaker 2: the fuck do you just get to be like a
- 20:08Speaker 2: star and a somewhat recognizable name and like i don't
- 20:13Speaker 2: know where you came from like you didn't get to
- 20:16Speaker 2: that point from anywhere that i know just overnight one
- 20:19Speaker 2: day oh look it's jb smooth i'm like who the
- 20:22Speaker 2: fuck is jimmy smooth and now he's gotten himself crammed
- 20:25Speaker 2: into a spider-man i'm like that's that's i don't know
- 20:29Speaker 2: that's a huge leap and i still don't really think
- 20:32Speaker 2: he i mean he thinks he's funny i don't know
- 20:34Speaker 2: that anybody else really like thinks he's funny.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Not that my theater was packed because i caught a
- 20:40Speaker 3: matinee but there was no laughter the whole movie like
- 20:43Speaker 3: at no point was there like and i don't want
- 20:45Speaker 3: to sound like i need this you know in marvel
- 20:47Speaker 3: movies there has to be humor but you know considering
- 20:50Speaker 3: that they are so you know stereotyped for being full
- 20:53Speaker 3: of you know funny banter for this one to like
- 20:57Speaker 3: just zero out of ten for me i was just
- 20:59Speaker 3: like none of this banter Like, you know, I get that.
- 21:03Speaker 3: It's not that there was bands around that bugged me.
- 21:04Speaker 3: It just, it wasn't clever.
- 21:05Speaker 2: It wasn't entertaining.
- 21:06Speaker 3: It just felt like regular.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I don't want.
- 21:09Speaker 3: To say regular, like it wasn't.
- 21:11Speaker 2: None of the humor landed.
- 21:12Speaker 3: So when they did have these like first half of
- 21:14Speaker 3: the movie, practically these kids just being kids talking to
- 21:17Speaker 3: each other. I was like, I just feel like I'm
- 21:18Speaker 3: eavesdropping at the mall. You know, it doesn't feel like.
- 21:22Speaker 3: anything funny or anything that matters or anything that's getting
- 21:25Speaker 3: me invested in this movie is happening with the kids
- 21:27Speaker 3: bickering and liking each other not liking each other we're
- 21:29Speaker 3: over here we're over there i was just like this
- 21:32Speaker 3: this feels like another movie this doesn't feel spider-man feels
- 21:35Speaker 3: like a cameo in this movie when this is a
- 21:37Speaker 3: spider-man movie you know what i mean it feels weird
- 21:40Speaker 3: to me.
- 21:41Speaker 2: What's funny that was the only like that was the
- 21:43Speaker 2: main thing that stuck with me actually because as you
- 21:47Speaker 2: said that i was like yeah plot wise like of
- 21:48Speaker 2: the grand superhero stuff i'm just like yeah, I mean,
- 21:52Speaker 2: most of that, it's, like, I, if I think about it,
- 21:54Speaker 2: I can be, like, oh, yeah, it was this, and this,
- 21:56Speaker 2: and this, but, like, I don't remember that, like, I
- 21:58Speaker 2: do with a lot of the big, like, Avengers kind
- 22:00Speaker 2: of stuff, but with this one, it was mostly, like, tone,
- 22:03Speaker 2: and that's why I don't think, I, like, when you
- 22:05Speaker 2: said that, I was, like, I wasn't thinking of jokes,
- 22:06Speaker 2: because I don't feel like it was trying to be
- 22:08Speaker 2: overly jokey, it was mostly, it was, it was just
- 22:11Speaker 2: kind of normal conversation-y stuff with kids, it wasn't.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Like, one-liners, like, it's just, That kind of banter that
- 22:18Speaker 3: gets funny and awkward because it's still going. For me,
- 22:21Speaker 3: it wasn't getting funny because it was still going. It
- 22:23Speaker 3: was just getting annoying because it was still going. It's like,
- 22:24Speaker 3: this isn't funny. Let's move on to the next scene
- 22:28Speaker 3: or joke or whatever. I don't want to sound like
- 22:31Speaker 3: I was aggravating the theater, but it wasn't landing. So
- 22:34Speaker 3: I was just like, all right, it's a bunch of
- 22:36Speaker 3: kids talking 45 minutes now. Can Spider-Man please show up
- 22:40Speaker 3: and let's start doing something?
- 22:42Speaker 2: I don't know. Again, I feel like this was, and
- 22:44Speaker 2: I think that's what made this a different, because we're
- 22:47Speaker 2: coming off of in-game and infinity war and everything is
- 22:51Speaker 2: so heavy that like, they were just like, Nope, not
- 22:54Speaker 2: going down that road. Like they specifically, I'm assuming the
- 22:57Speaker 2: director went out of his way to be like, we
- 23:00Speaker 2: kind of kept the first one relatively light. And we're
- 23:03Speaker 2: definitely going to do that coming out of this super
- 23:06Speaker 2: overwhelmingly emotional journey we just came from. So I feel
- 23:10Speaker 2: like it was almost purposeful to be like, let's make
- 23:13Speaker 2: sure we don't get like bogged down with weird, emotional
- 23:17Speaker 2: versions of everything and just kind of have a fun
- 23:20Speaker 2: high school road trip kind of movie that also we
- 23:23Speaker 2: work Spider-Man into. So I don't know. I like it.
- 23:26Speaker 2: That is kind of what stuck with me out of
- 23:29Speaker 2: it was that it wasn't trying to be what anything
- 23:32Speaker 2: else before it had been. It's trying to do something different. Again,
- 23:35Speaker 2: it may not land right with seems to be the case.
- 23:39Speaker 6: It doesn't land right. It doesn't land right. Cause especially
- 23:41Speaker 6: like the humor, it was definitely supposed to be humor,
- 23:44Speaker 6: but most of it was just like, let's, Show them
- 23:47Speaker 6: being awkward, almost like office humor. Like, just show this
- 23:51Speaker 6: awkward thing, and the pacing is telling you that it's humorous,
- 23:55Speaker 6: but I'm like, it's not humorous.
- 23:56Speaker 3: It's just not the kind of humor that makes you
- 23:58Speaker 3: laugh out loud.
- 23:58Speaker 12: It's not.
- 23:59Speaker 3: And like I said, not that I need a one-liner
- 24:01Speaker 3: to make me laugh, but it was just like, this
- 24:04Speaker 3: is still supposed to be entertaining.
- 24:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I had like laughter blue balls.
- 24:08Speaker 6: I was just like waiting to laugh, and it just
- 24:10Speaker 6: didn't happen.
- 24:12Speaker 2: The one thing in that little world that did work
- 24:15Speaker 2: for me is and again because I think it it's
- 24:18Speaker 2: not an important part of anything it was like a
- 24:21Speaker 2: side thing that like as soon as they set up
- 24:24Speaker 2: the scenario and it fell flat I'm just like okay
- 24:27Speaker 2: so these kids are obviously getting to get the whole
- 24:29Speaker 2: little like Ned and Betty thing I don't know like
- 24:32Speaker 2: that was I not even like funny like it was
- 24:35Speaker 2: just like I liked that little connection I like again
- 24:39Speaker 2: because we knew almost nothing about Betty so we get
- 24:41Speaker 2: this weird little like, version of her crammed into the
- 24:44Speaker 2: friends now. I don't know. That whole little relationship and
- 24:48Speaker 2: the fact that it worked itself out over the trip.
- 24:51Speaker 2: That was... I don't know. That was kind of fun,
- 24:53Speaker 2: I thought. Most of the other... Like, Flash is just there.
- 24:56Speaker 2: He's just a dick. And, like... I also think... And
- 25:00Speaker 2: I said this at the time when we got that
- 25:01Speaker 2: first trailer. I was like, it is really... odd and
- 25:06Speaker 2: convenient that everybody we knew.
- 25:08Speaker 3: From his class except got zapped out except for the.
- 25:11Speaker 2: One guy except the one guy that's now the competition
- 25:14Speaker 2: the new rival but yeah everyone that was recognizable of
- 25:18Speaker 2: those basically those you know four characters and peter like
- 25:21Speaker 2: we're all like in the same little group and now
- 25:23Speaker 2: here they are and nobody i don't know that just
- 25:26Speaker 2: seems like what luck And or writing that made this
- 25:29Speaker 2: come true.
- 25:30Speaker 6: Did anyone catch how soon after everyone came back from
- 25:34Speaker 6: the blip that this occurred?
- 25:36Speaker 3: I want to say it says something about a year.
- 25:39Speaker 6: A year?
- 25:40Speaker 3: Within a year or one year. I thought somewhere in
- 25:41Speaker 3: the beginning. Because they were also complaining about having to
- 25:43Speaker 3: do school again.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Remember?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Because they were halfway in. Here they are in their
- 25:48Speaker 3: next school year because they have to do the whole
- 25:49Speaker 3: grade over.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Which again, I like that stuff I thought was interesting. Again,
- 25:54Speaker 2: I've already seen people complaining about that because everything that
- 25:58Speaker 2: was so serious about Endgame and Infinity War, it totally
- 26:02Speaker 2: is just like, eh, let's have fun with it. So
- 26:05Speaker 2: they totally lighten the tone of everything so much so
- 26:08Speaker 2: that it's like.
- 26:09Speaker 6: Kind of unrealistic.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I mean, kind of, but I don't... That's the other
- 26:13Speaker 2: thing is I don't think there's a way you could
- 26:16Speaker 2: do it realistically without crippling society. You know what I mean? Literally,
- 26:21Speaker 2: if half of the people were gone... the amount.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Of damage would be insane.
- 26:27Speaker 2: And one year later, we would not be okay.
- 26:30Speaker 6: You would not be going between countries freely.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Well, I mean, and here's some weird.
- 26:35Speaker 3: And again, I don't want to be that guy because
- 26:37Speaker 3: the more you think about stuff, the more you can
- 26:39Speaker 3: put holes in it. If people are going to reappear
- 26:41Speaker 3: when they were when they blipped, what happened to all
- 26:43Speaker 3: the people that were flying?
- 26:44Speaker 6: Oh, no.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Like, seriously. I mean, did bodies just fall out of
- 26:48Speaker 2: the air?
- 26:49Speaker 3: Like, the planes didn't come back. So did everyone that
- 26:51Speaker 3: was flying... Just fall. Anyone that was on a boat,
- 26:54Speaker 3: just go into the water. I mean, there's so many
- 26:56Speaker 3: scenarios where it's.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Like- Just mowed down.
- 26:58Speaker 3: There's so many dead people because- It's so terrible. What
- 27:01Speaker 3: if they built a building in five years in a
- 27:04Speaker 3: place where you live- You're trapped inside a piece of concrete.
- 27:06Speaker 2: You rematerialize inside concrete. I mean- No.
- 27:09Speaker 3: There's a lot of weird stuff they- and again I
- 27:13Speaker 3: think that was the approach too I think it was
- 27:16Speaker 3: very purposeful of like we've almost like getting to the
- 27:20Speaker 3: huge Marvel thing is like we've almost painted ourselves into
- 27:24Speaker 3: a corner we are creating so many through lines we
- 27:28Speaker 3: now have included time travel we're working in multiverses you
- 27:32Speaker 3: know it's like we can't keep tying our hands here
- 27:35Speaker 3: how about we just don't fucking care like we just
- 27:39Speaker 3: like take a real breezy tone on this one and
- 27:43Speaker 3: be like, yep, so everybody came back.
- 27:45Speaker 2: And I don't, like in a way that's what you
- 27:47Speaker 2: had to have to make any of this, especially the
- 27:50Speaker 2: tone of this movie. Like if you came back and like,
- 27:53Speaker 2: even the, when they do the in memoriam, it's a joke.
- 27:56Speaker 2: It's the Whitney Houston, super serious, badly edited by high
- 28:00Speaker 2: school kids version. And I'm like, We needed to acknowledge
- 28:04Speaker 2: that it happened or I guess catch up the people who,
- 28:07Speaker 2: what person didn't go see Endgame and came to see this,
- 28:09Speaker 2: but whatever. So like, you know, like we needed a
- 28:12Speaker 2: little bit of a tiny recap, but if you did
- 28:15Speaker 2: it serious, you're just going to drag this thing down
- 28:17Speaker 2: right from the get go.
- 28:18Speaker 3: I thought the beginning was very awkward because it comes
- 28:21Speaker 3: in with that.
- 28:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 3: And it goes right to Mexico. And it's like the moment.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Mysterio walks up to Fury, which is only like three minutes.
- 28:29Speaker 3: And it's like them pulling up and hey, here's this guy.
- 28:31Speaker 3: And then it goes to Spider-Man, Logan, to Peter. And
- 28:33Speaker 3: it was very, to me, it was weird. It's like,
- 28:36Speaker 3: why did you show Fury, Hill, and Mysterio for like
- 28:38Speaker 3: 10 seconds? And then cut to the actual movie starting
- 28:43Speaker 3: in school. Like, it was weird to me. I didn't
- 28:45Speaker 3: understand why that was in the beginning like that.
- 28:48Speaker 2: I think it was like that little, like, teaser adventure thing.
- 28:51Speaker 2: It's like with every, you know, you're midway into some
- 28:55Speaker 2: sort of weird adventure when you start your Indiana Jones
- 28:57Speaker 2: movie or your James Bond movie. Or, like, you get
- 29:00Speaker 2: that little snippet of, like, the end of an action scene.
- 29:02Speaker 2: And then we get to, like, okay, and now back
- 29:04Speaker 2: to what normally happens at this point. So I think
- 29:07Speaker 2: it was that kind of, like, teaser intro thing. That, like,
- 29:10Speaker 2: then to be like, oh, yeah, by the way, Samuel L.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Jackson back. Don't worry. He'll be here. That is, I mean.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I feel like on paper, everything about this movie sounds great.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Like I said, for me, there was something in. I
- 29:28Speaker 3: wasn't engaged. I guess it's only, and I can't, I'm
- 29:31Speaker 3: still trying to figure out why. Because I like the
- 29:33Speaker 3: characters and stuff. But I found myself in the movie
- 29:35Speaker 3: just being like, I don't feel anything.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I'm not laughing.
- 29:40Speaker 3: I'm not particularly excited I'm not like I just really
- 29:44Speaker 3: felt like almost the whole movie I was waiting for
- 29:46Speaker 3: it to get interesting and it never it was visually
- 29:49Speaker 3: interesting I mean there is visually it was incredible but
- 29:53Speaker 3: just it never other than Peter I didn't really care
- 29:56Speaker 3: about else in the movie.
- 29:57Speaker 2: I still like Ned. But again, Ned wasn't the Ned
- 30:00Speaker 2: we knew as soon as he got involved. Again, that's
- 30:04Speaker 2: the only part I like, because that is so many
- 30:06Speaker 2: people that as soon as they're in a relationship, the
- 30:09Speaker 2: rest of their life disappears. Again, it's like a few
- 30:13Speaker 2: snippets here and there version of it, but I'm like,
- 30:15Speaker 2: I like that little dynamic. But yeah, everything else... This
- 30:19Speaker 2: is what I was going to say, though. This is
- 30:21Speaker 2: what I was going to ask you. Because the plot
- 30:25Speaker 2: itself as it goes on because maybe that's why I
- 30:28Speaker 2: attached myself more to the tone and what was going
- 30:31Speaker 2: on with the kids because as you get into the
- 30:33Speaker 2: bigger superhero plot it's bullshit so like does that sort
- 30:38Speaker 2: of somewhere in the back of your mind be like
- 30:40Speaker 2: well I'm obviously not going to be attached to any
- 30:42Speaker 2: of this part of the plot because I don't know
- 30:46Speaker 2: like it does play this game with you of like
- 30:49Speaker 2: setting and again I think it's all purposeful it's not
- 30:52Speaker 2: by accident it is the way that they put this
- 30:54Speaker 2: whole structure of this movie together is meant to be
- 30:58Speaker 2: kind of a a weird pulling the rug out from
- 31:01Speaker 2: under you kind of thing that's the whole way that
- 31:03Speaker 2: this story goes but does it doing that also kind
- 31:07Speaker 2: of undercut the emotional connection to any of what's going
- 31:11Speaker 2: on in.
- 31:11Speaker 6: The bigger story probably like I mean I they just
- 31:15Speaker 6: kept Mysterio as like you know, I'm going to be
- 31:19Speaker 6: this good guy. But it's like, I knew he wasn't.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, he's too fucking nice. And it was just like
- 31:23Speaker 2: so long.
- 31:24Speaker 6: Like so long, they just kept him up like that.
- 31:26Speaker 6: And I was just like, oh my God, just turn.
- 31:30Speaker 6: Just turn already.
- 31:31Speaker 3: I heard at screenings, this was one of the movies
- 31:34Speaker 3: where they were taking phones, which they only do when
- 31:36Speaker 3: they really want to keep a secret.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 3: And I would like to think they're smart enough that
- 31:40Speaker 3: they were doing that because of stingers. But I can't
- 31:43Speaker 3: help but wonder if in their head, Even though there's
- 31:46Speaker 3: comic books out there and everyone knows that Mysterio is
- 31:48Speaker 3: a villain already, if somewhere in their head they thought
- 31:50Speaker 3: there was still the basic general mainstream that wouldn't know
- 31:54Speaker 3: and we were going to try as hard as we
- 31:55Speaker 3: could to swerve them.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Probably. Because I was just like, everyone's just waiting for it.
- 32:00Speaker 2: That's what I was going to say. I was like,
- 32:02Speaker 2: but you're thinking of a comic book fan and even
- 32:05Speaker 2: just general geeks know it. Because that's the thing. I
- 32:06Speaker 2: didn't read anything that had Mysterio in it growing up.
- 32:10Speaker 2: But I knew the name, and I knew, like, as
- 32:12Speaker 2: soon as they cast you, I was like, isn't.
- 32:13Speaker 6: He the villain?
- 32:13Speaker 2: He's Marvel's Scarecrow.
- 32:14Speaker 3: He's kind of Marvel's Scarecrow.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, isn't he the villain? I was like, huh,
- 32:17Speaker 2: this will be different. They're bringing in a big name
- 32:20Speaker 2: like that to whatever it is they're going to do
- 32:22Speaker 2: with him. But I was just like, he is, again,
- 32:25Speaker 2: he's not a super high-profile name for regular people. And
- 32:30Speaker 2: now this has become the biggest franchise in the world, so...
- 32:35Speaker 2: think how many regular Joes in the world now are
- 32:37Speaker 2: just like, oh, I'm going to go see that movie
- 32:39Speaker 2: and probably have no idea who these characters are. Like
- 32:43Speaker 2: whatever weird label, like, Again, the geeks are out there
- 32:46Speaker 2: just feeding off Easter eggs right and left. But these
- 32:49Speaker 2: guys are like, boom, just way over their head.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I don't know why we call them Easter eggs anymore.
- 32:53Speaker 2: It's very obviously planted.
- 32:56Speaker 3: If you have dozens, dozens, quote unquote, of Easter eggs,
- 32:59Speaker 3: that's just attention to detail now. Don't call it an
- 33:01Speaker 3: Easter egg.
- 33:02Speaker 2: But some of them are so blatantly like, this is
- 33:05Speaker 2: for you, dorks.
- 33:06Speaker 3: The license plates are just calling out comic book issues
- 33:09Speaker 3: all over the place.
- 33:10Speaker 2: That's not even a normal reference now. At that point,
- 33:13Speaker 2: I was kind of like, come on man you're just
- 33:16Speaker 2: trying too hard at that point like the poster is
- 33:18Speaker 2: cool but like the license plates i was like you
- 33:21Speaker 2: were trying too fucking hard like you're just you're laying
- 33:25Speaker 2: it in there so far so deep for geeks that
- 33:29Speaker 2: even those geeks aren't going to care that much that
- 33:31Speaker 2: you made a license plate so just save you some.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Time and i heard no i shouldn't say there was
- 33:38Speaker 3: theories that this was meant to be a lot more
- 33:42Speaker 3: meta and ideas that since Mysterio's whole thing is deception
- 33:45Speaker 3: and fooling you, that they were going to bring it
- 33:47Speaker 3: into the trailer and have the trailer just even fool
- 33:49Speaker 3: us as people.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Well, see, I felt like it almost pulled a reverse
- 33:54Speaker 2: Iron Man 3. It's taking the villain is totally fooling people,
- 34:01Speaker 2: only he was, I'm going to be the biggest, baddest
- 34:03Speaker 2: villain ever, and that's all bullshit. Where this is, I'm
- 34:05Speaker 2: going to be the greatest superhero ever, and it's all bullshit.
- 34:08Speaker 2: So it just kind of, reversed it although that's the
- 34:11Speaker 2: thing to me it doesn't because I know you have
- 34:13Speaker 2: more issues with it but I really like Iron Man
- 34:16Speaker 2: 3 and I don't feel like that turn takes away
- 34:19Speaker 2: from the emotional like investment like I feel like I
- 34:22Speaker 2: just as much am invested in what's going on at
- 34:26Speaker 2: least with the Tony Stark character again it still has
- 34:29Speaker 2: a kind of a weak villain at the end but
- 34:31Speaker 2: overall I still am way more invested in what's going
- 34:34Speaker 2: on there where here once we get to how grand
- 34:36Speaker 2: this scheme is I'm just kind of like oh okay
- 34:39Speaker 2: And just kind of shrug it off because I'm like,
- 34:42Speaker 2: it's fine. You know, it's not, I don't think anything's
- 34:45Speaker 2: badly done in this, but it's not, there's something about
- 34:48Speaker 2: it that flips that switch and you're just like, oh, okay.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Like it just totally kills whatever that investment was you
- 34:55Speaker 2: had in it. And I don't, and I'm trying to
- 34:57Speaker 2: think if it were, like if these were actual giant
- 35:00Speaker 2: creatures that were coming from another dimension, would you have
- 35:03Speaker 2: been sucked in? Like, do you think that would have
- 35:05Speaker 2: changed it or not? I don't know. I don't even
- 35:08Speaker 2: know if that's the case. But definitely once they weren't,
- 35:11Speaker 2: I was like, oh, so they're doing that. Okay.
- 35:14Speaker 4: All right.
- 35:14Speaker 2: And it was just kind of like, what else we
- 35:16Speaker 2: got to look at? What other weird stuff?
- 35:20Speaker 3: Like I said, I think on paper, there's a lot
- 35:23Speaker 3: of smart things done in this movie. But it's just,
- 35:27Speaker 3: and like I said, I'm still processing it because it
- 35:28Speaker 3: was just hours ago. But the more, I feel like, again,
- 35:31Speaker 3: it's like the more I think about things, the more
- 35:33Speaker 3: holes and weird things I'm going to find, especially with
- 35:36Speaker 3: everything with, Nick and Hill being, spoiler, Skrulls.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Super spoiler, jump to the end.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Which, in retrospect, does make sense in the movie. I
- 35:48Speaker 3: noticed two things that I thought was weird when it
- 35:51Speaker 3: was happening. When Fury is explaining the initial situation.
- 35:55Speaker 2: He says something to Peter.
- 35:57Speaker 3: He says, your Earth. And I think you can take
- 36:01Speaker 3: it in context of Mysterio talking about dimensions, but the
- 36:04Speaker 3: way that Nick is looking at Peter and he says, something, something,
- 36:07Speaker 3: your earth. And I'm like, why did Nick say your earth?
- 36:10Speaker 3: And so when that happened at the end, I'm like,
- 36:11Speaker 3: oh my God, they hinted at it. It finally makes sense.
- 36:14Speaker 3: And it was the other thing where him and Hill
- 36:16Speaker 3: are walking and he compares something to a Kree splinter cell.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I was like, why would Fury- be talking about the Kree.
- 36:24Speaker 3: So I noticed both of those at the end. I
- 36:25Speaker 3: was like, oh, they did drop hints. It wasn't a
- 36:28Speaker 3: complete swerve. But like I said, stuff like that makes
- 36:31Speaker 3: me look back on it. Like there was a lot
- 36:33Speaker 3: of smart things in there. Like I said, there was
- 36:34Speaker 3: just an it factor in the movie that just didn't
- 36:37Speaker 3: grab me and get me really invested.
- 36:39Speaker 2: There is, yeah. I mean, it is a weird dynamic
- 36:42Speaker 2: that does, like I said, it leaves these holes that
- 36:46Speaker 2: maybe become issues for you. That is one of those
- 36:50Speaker 2: that I'm like, so... After we get to the end
- 36:53Speaker 2: of that reveal, it is one of those, then you
- 36:55Speaker 2: sit around being a dork going, so how far back
- 36:58Speaker 2: do you think they had that planned?
- 37:00Speaker 3: Because it insinuates it's just this movie, but who knows?
- 37:02Speaker 2: Captain Marvel released, but I mean, in theory, but I don't, again,
- 37:06Speaker 2: they were already trying to like- But now we're talking
- 37:08Speaker 2: about the 20 year gap or whatever.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Because Captain Marvel was the 90, we're back to now.
- 37:12Speaker 3: So it's like, if he's had that kind of relationship
- 37:14Speaker 3: with them, we don't know what kind of black ops
- 37:17Speaker 3: stuff Fury's been using them for or how many- Which, again,
- 37:22Speaker 3: is when we start, like, we've opened it up so much,
- 37:26Speaker 3: we've painted it in this corner where now we can
- 37:28Speaker 3: get out of anything.
- 37:29Speaker 2: We can be like, oh, well, that wasn't even Iron
- 37:31Speaker 2: Man when that happened because he was a Skrull. And
- 37:33Speaker 2: he was like, you can start, like, geek backtracking and
- 37:36Speaker 2: getting yourself out of any situation.
- 37:37Speaker 3: In my head, I went all the way back to,
- 37:39Speaker 3: not Civil War, to Winter Soldier. I was like, was
- 37:41Speaker 3: it when he died in that car accident? Has it
- 37:44Speaker 3: been all of this time? But then, you know, he's
- 37:47Speaker 3: alive in.
- 37:47Speaker 5: The ship, too.
- 37:48Speaker 2: But he is alive. So I'm like, well, why? And
- 37:50Speaker 2: where the hell is he? Why do they need him there?
- 37:53Speaker 3: And that's a personality change for him. For him to
- 37:55Speaker 3: let someone else do the thing. It's just like, what
- 37:59Speaker 3: is going on? In the comics, he does... I think
- 38:03Speaker 3: Joss Whedon did this. I think when Joss Whedon got
- 38:05Speaker 3: to write, he did this. In the comics, there is
- 38:08Speaker 3: an expanded version of S.H.I.E.L.D. I think it's called S.W.O.R.D.
- 38:12Speaker 3: And they have a space station or something where it's basically.
- 38:16Speaker 2: When Nick realizes.
- 38:18Speaker 3: you know, it's not just about bad guys on earth.
- 38:20Speaker 3: We got to watch everything now. And so there is
- 38:22Speaker 3: an intergalactic version of shield. So I'm assuming they're hinting
- 38:27Speaker 3: at that, that that's him in the space station, just
- 38:30Speaker 3: being an intergalactic shield now.
- 38:31Speaker 2: I mean, maybe that, again, these were things that only
- 38:36Speaker 2: in recent, because again, it's been a few days for me.
- 38:38Speaker 2: So the more I thought about it, the more I
- 38:40Speaker 2: kept going. So, okay. Then, cause that is one of those,
- 38:43Speaker 2: like even in the movie, he keeps like rattling off
- 38:46Speaker 2: other people. Like why me? And now it's like, is
- 38:49Speaker 2: that why? Like, is there, is, because normally would Fury
- 38:52Speaker 2: have gone to this dumb high school kid? But he
- 38:54Speaker 2: still seems to be following Fury's command, more or less. So,
- 38:58Speaker 2: but like, it really got to a point of like, okay, yeah,
- 39:02Speaker 2: we lost a few heroes in the last movie, but
- 39:05Speaker 2: nobody's fucking, like, you can't, like, how about, I don't know,
- 39:08Speaker 2: Scarlet Witch? Like, is anybody more skilled to take on
- 39:12Speaker 2: something like this giant monster? Yeah, I'm like, any of this? Like,
- 39:17Speaker 2: I know it's supposed to be a solo movie, but
- 39:19Speaker 2: the fact that they're working in, yeah, all of this
- 39:22Speaker 2: other bigger, when it, within the context of the movie,
- 39:25Speaker 2: it's supposed to be world ending. Like this dude's planet
- 39:27Speaker 2: was destroyed.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Suicide squad ended up being like yeah you know so
- 39:33Speaker 3: everyone was like well why isn't the justice league there
- 39:35Speaker 3: if this is a thing that could take out the
- 39:36Speaker 3: planet why didn't they call black panther why didn't they
- 39:38Speaker 3: call any of these other people this is now a
- 39:41Speaker 3: global thing why is it just the kid from queens
- 39:43Speaker 3: can do it and nobody else that's Like I said,
- 39:47Speaker 3: I don't like that the more I think about it,
- 39:48Speaker 3: the more holes I can find. And I think that's
- 39:50Speaker 3: what I kind of knew in the theater. It's like,
- 39:51Speaker 3: this is loose. You're playing it real fast and loose.
- 39:55Speaker 3: And I don't... Knowing it's Sony, I feel like maybe
- 39:59Speaker 3: there's a disconnect somewhere in the writing. We're like, we're
- 40:02Speaker 3: not going to call Marvel on this. Just put it in.
- 40:04Speaker 3: There's just some things that I'm like.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Oh, this is a little... I mean, I went back
- 40:07Speaker 2: to double check and he also did Homecoming. And I'm like,
- 40:11Speaker 2: I think Homecoming's pretty tight as a story. And I
- 40:14Speaker 2: think it actually has... For as lighthearted as it is
- 40:18Speaker 2: compared to a lot of other stuff, it still has stakes.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And you do kind of, like, once we get to
- 40:23Speaker 2: having a great villain, it's like, I really think that
- 40:26Speaker 2: gives it so much weight at the end of it.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Well, and maybe that is part of it, because Michael
- 40:28Speaker 3: Keaton was awesome as Vulture. That scene in the car
- 40:32Speaker 3: was awesome. And nothing like that happened in this one.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Jake was just.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Jake's kind of hamming it up once he does the turn. Like,
- 40:39Speaker 2: he's a super nice guy, and then it's nothing but hammy.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Expositioned everything on that bar counter.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Man, that scene didn't go well for me at all.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Because I was just like, so you're going to tell
- 40:51Speaker 3: us the whole movie in five minutes right now? It's like,
- 40:54Speaker 3: I get the context. You're celebrating you did this thing.
- 40:56Speaker 3: But it felt heavy handed to me like, let's explain
- 40:59Speaker 3: everything to you right now before the rest of the movie.
- 41:02Speaker 6: Like going around to his whole crew and everybody's clapping.
- 41:05Speaker 6: I was like, all right, okay.
- 41:08Speaker 3: And I dug the connections. It was a scientist from
- 41:10Speaker 3: Civil War. It was a scientist from the first or
- 41:13Speaker 3: second Iron Man.
- 41:13Speaker 2: I dug that.
- 41:14Speaker 3: But it was just so much exposition at one time.
- 41:17Speaker 3: That it just felt like, all right, let's look at
- 41:19Speaker 3: the audience and go, look, shit's going to get weird.
- 41:22Speaker 2: We're using all this crazy technology. It works. Just trust us.
- 41:25Speaker 2: It works. Okay, so back. That's the thing I was
- 41:28Speaker 2: going to say. It is a little ham-fisted in that scene,
- 41:32Speaker 2: but I do like that it's not only that any
- 41:36Speaker 2: type of movie like this, it has stakes and it
- 41:39Speaker 2: has weight to it. But the one thing I will
- 41:41Speaker 2: give what MCU's been trying to do all this time
- 41:44Speaker 2: is Everything is a continuing story. And everything really, like
- 41:49Speaker 2: the things that happen from one movie, not only like, oh,
- 41:52Speaker 2: we mention them later, like it affects everything that takes
- 41:56Speaker 2: place throughout this ongoing story. So it's like you can't
- 41:59Speaker 2: have Civil War happen without everything that happened in Ultron.
- 42:03Speaker 2: It's like you can't have, you know, what happens in Spider-Man,
- 42:08Speaker 2: the first Spider-Man, only happens because of what happens in
- 42:12Speaker 2: the first avengers like everything from the very first avengers
- 42:16Speaker 2: movie leads to the whole michael keaton character arc and
- 42:19Speaker 2: like it all goes together so like all of that
- 42:22Speaker 2: is so well structured that again i like the basic
- 42:26Speaker 2: idea of what they were doing here but it is
- 42:28Speaker 2: weird how much they were just like and then this
- 42:30Speaker 2: guy and then this guy like it might have been
- 42:31Speaker 2: a little easier to just sort of pull like him
- 42:34Speaker 2: as the main guy And, you know, Tony Stark was
- 42:37Speaker 2: a jerk and he stole my idea. Yeah. Which, I
- 42:40Speaker 2: guess we've already done that because that is basically what
- 42:42Speaker 2: happens in Iron Man 3 too.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Well, and I also, again, when you think about, like
- 42:46Speaker 3: I said, just the more you think about it, the
- 42:49Speaker 3: more you can compare. In many ways, this is Ultron
- 42:52Speaker 3: all over again. This is Stark trying to create some
- 42:54Speaker 3: super safe feature. That creates the ultimate villain. Because his
- 42:59Speaker 3: sunglasses got in this dude's hands, the whole world was
- 43:03Speaker 3: at risk. In a way, it felt kind of like
- 43:05Speaker 3: Ultron again, because you were doing this thing and it
- 43:07Speaker 3: got turned into this. Now the whole world's at risk.
- 43:09Speaker 3: And it's like, even dead, you're the hero. You just
- 43:12Speaker 3: created a new villain. You know, even dead, you're a problem. Like,
- 43:15Speaker 3: you still, I don't know.
- 43:17Speaker 2: And yet, how smooth did he look in those glasses?

- 48:14Speaker 12: Hey, this is Doug Jones from the Hellboy Movies and
- 48:16Speaker 12: the Silver Surfer and Pan's Labyrinth and Hocus Pocus, Falling Skies,
- 48:20Speaker 12: and so much more. But today, you are listening to
- 48:24Speaker 12: Movie Meltdown.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Astounding live action excitement. The super adventure of everybody's favorite superhero. Spider-Man.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Now he lives.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Did you guys notice the weird shit with Flash Thompson?
- 49:11Speaker 3: Which I assume will matter in the next movie. There
- 49:13Speaker 3: was a weird underlying plot with him. His parents are
- 49:16Speaker 3: gone or dead or missing. they hinted at it like
- 49:19Speaker 3: when he first put the glasses on and he was
- 49:22Speaker 3: seeing everyone's text he's like texting his mom and dad
- 49:24Speaker 3: like hey i haven't heard from you a couple of
- 49:25Speaker 3: days are you doing.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Okay is that what those said and then at.
- 49:28Speaker 3: The end when They're getting picked up and like the
- 49:31Speaker 3: chauffeurs are just like, oh, mom and dad didn't come.
- 49:34Speaker 3: And the guy just shakes his head. So there's something
- 49:36Speaker 3: going on.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I was trying to decide if it was that or
- 49:38Speaker 2: they're just trying to build up to give him like
- 49:40Speaker 2: a reason why he's such a dick. Because he's always been.
- 49:43Speaker 6: There's some kind of like empathy for that like dick
- 49:45Speaker 6: rich kid.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Well, but what?
- 49:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Again, this is me thinking what if his parents die
- 49:51Speaker 3: back in Queens while they're on the trip and he
- 49:54Speaker 3: blames Peter? Because I kind of feel like this is
- 49:57Speaker 3: leading to something for the third movie. So some reason
- 49:59Speaker 3: for him to be mad at Peter. And now that
- 50:01Speaker 3: he knows who Spider-Man is because.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Of the end, now he's like, why are.
- 50:06Speaker 3: You going on vacation? You know, instead of you're a superhero,
- 50:09Speaker 3: you should have been here. And so part of me
- 50:11Speaker 3: wonders if he's going to.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Be the Osborn? Do we know him? Oh my God,
- 50:16Speaker 2: he is.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Do they call him Thompson?
- 50:17Speaker 2: You cracked the case. Did they call him Flash Thompson
- 50:20Speaker 2: or just Flash?
- 50:21Speaker 3: Because I was wondering, you could make him Osborn. Maybe
- 50:24Speaker 3: he loses his mom and the dad's still around. Something
- 50:26Speaker 3: where he has a reason to resent Peter specifically. So, again,
- 50:31Speaker 3: I don't know what was going on with Flash, but
- 50:32Speaker 3: those two things are very weird. Something's going on with
- 50:34Speaker 3: his parents, and it has to play in the next movie.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Well, and then the other, what's the... the competition dude
- 50:41Speaker 2: because he's he's like the football jock in the comics
- 50:45Speaker 2: i think he's just for this movie i think he
- 50:47Speaker 2: was in one comic yeah like literally he was just
- 50:49Speaker 2: there was one issue where they they were making each
- 50:52Speaker 2: other jealous and she went on a date with him
- 50:53Speaker 2: something like that happened he's not even a fundamental character
- 50:56Speaker 2: are they trying to set this up to turn him
- 50:58Speaker 2: into something down the line of like you know you've
- 51:01Speaker 2: really wronged me peter or if it's just gonna be
- 51:03Speaker 2: like we needed a romantic i think they just needed
- 51:06Speaker 2: a competition you know something that.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Jock asshole yeah I mean, in all honesty, it kind
- 51:11Speaker 3: of should have, could have been Flash's character.
- 51:13Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 51:13Speaker 2: I guess they just didn't want to push it. That's
- 51:14Speaker 2: why it's weird that they introduced.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Maybe him and MJ wouldn't have felt, it wouldn't have
- 51:17Speaker 3: felt right. So maybe they were like, hmm.
- 51:20Speaker 2: It doesn't seem like competition either because everybody knows what
- 51:23Speaker 2: a dick he is. So you kind of couldn't even
- 51:25Speaker 2: buy that she might want to go out with him.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Where at least this guy, he's like, oh, he's tall
- 51:29Speaker 2: and handsome and okay, I can see, you know, normally
- 51:31Speaker 2: somebody would go for that. But, you know, I don't know.
- 51:35Speaker 2: They were born in stable orbits within black holes.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Creatures formed from the primary elements.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Air, water, fire, earth. The science division had a technical name.
- 51:44Speaker 2: We just called them elementals. Versions of them exist across
- 51:48Speaker 2: our mythologies. Turns out the myths are real.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Like Thor.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Thor was a myth and now I study him in
- 51:54Speaker 3: my physics class.
- 51:56Speaker 2: These myths are threats.
- 51:58Speaker 3: They first materialized on my earth many years ago.
- 52:01Speaker 10: I was part of the last battalion left trying to
- 52:03Speaker 10: stop them. All we did was.
- 52:04Speaker 2: Delay the inevitable.
- 52:06Speaker 1: The elementals are here now, attacking the same coordinates.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Our satellites confirm it.
- 52:10Speaker 11: We have one mission. Kill it.
- 52:13Speaker 2: And you're coming with us.
- 52:14Speaker 6: Mr.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Fury, this all seems like big-time, you know, huge superhero
- 52:17Speaker 2: kind of stuff.
- 52:19Speaker 3: And, I mean, I'm just a friendly neighborhood.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Spider-Man, sir.
- 52:22Speaker 3: The special effects were really cool. Like, when he had
- 52:25Speaker 3: that whole just string of illusions that first time he
- 52:29Speaker 3: put it on him, that stuff was amazing.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Again, like, he is a good director, so I do
- 52:33Speaker 2: feel like when you give him, like, free reign to
- 52:35Speaker 2: come up with cool stuff, like, I don't think you
- 52:38Speaker 2: would have gotten that from a lot of other, like,
- 52:40Speaker 2: guys that they've handed off a one-off. Here, go direct
- 52:43Speaker 2: this movie. And, like, he does have kind of his
- 52:46Speaker 2: own cool style. And I think even, like, the effects with... Again,
- 52:50Speaker 2: the first couple, I was just like, eh, it looks like...
- 52:52Speaker 2: But once we got to the final one, that whole
- 52:55Speaker 2: creature battle, like, as much as I usually... hate a
- 52:57Speaker 2: giant CG creature fight at the end, I guess, once again,
- 53:00Speaker 2: because I know this is bullshit, even within the context
- 53:03Speaker 2: of the story, I could stop and go, oh, this
- 53:05Speaker 2: actually looks kind of good, you know, so, like, it,
- 53:07Speaker 2: it almost gave an excuse to be, like, it's okay
- 53:11Speaker 2: that it looks like a big fake CG creature, because
- 53:13Speaker 2: within the story, it's a big fake CG creature, I
- 53:16Speaker 2: think that's the only thing that kind of rescued that
- 53:18Speaker 2: for me, because, yeah, by the time we get to
- 53:20Speaker 2: the last one, I'm at least trying to appreciate, you know, what,
- 53:23Speaker 2: what What good work they kind of did on creating
- 53:27Speaker 2: that creature where those first couple were not so much.
- 53:30Speaker 2: I appreciated the.
- 53:31Speaker 10: The sand one was.
- 53:32Speaker 2: I don't know. The water one just.
- 53:34Speaker 3: For me, I wasn't so much leaning on the elementals.
- 53:37Speaker 3: It was more of when they had their first confrontation
- 53:40Speaker 3: and he was like, you know, the Hall of Mirrors
- 53:43Speaker 3: and there was all the Spider-Men.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. And he's like trapped in the glass bullhead.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Like that whole string, it felt like five minutes, but
- 53:49Speaker 3: that whole string of I thought that was all great.
- 53:52Speaker 3: And when he tried to confront him in the building,
- 53:54Speaker 3: and he was just constantly kind of shaking what was
- 53:57Speaker 3: going on and tricks him into getting hit by a train.
- 54:00Speaker 3: I was a little on the fence, again, and it's
- 54:02Speaker 3: just because comic nerd thing, but I didn't understand why
- 54:07Speaker 3: they acted like his spider sense was gone. I get
- 54:11Speaker 3: that he can't feel it to illusion, and I think
- 54:13Speaker 3: that's what they were going at, is that he thinks
- 54:14Speaker 3: it's gone because his stuff isn't real, so he's not
- 54:17Speaker 3: technically in danger, so he's not feeling it. But I
- 54:21Speaker 3: was just like.
- 54:21Speaker 2: But wouldn't drones try to kill you? He would feel
- 54:23Speaker 2: a real train, though, right? I was like, he would... Yeah.
- 54:26Speaker 2: It would work with that.
- 54:28Speaker 6: He was having trouble with his spidey senses before he
- 54:30Speaker 6: went on the trip, though.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Wait, they said it again. Is it like a PTSD?
- 54:36Speaker 2: What little I'd heard is, yeah, how much he was
- 54:38Speaker 2: affected by everything that happened... a lot of it with
- 54:42Speaker 2: the dealing with the Tony Stark thing, too. I think
- 54:44Speaker 2: him dying was enough to deal with, and then him
- 54:47Speaker 2: coming back and losing Tony. Oh, wait, no, that's right,
- 54:48Speaker 2: because the banana.
- 54:49Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 54:50Speaker 2: When she hit him with the banana in the very beginning.
- 54:52Speaker 10: Okay.
- 54:52Speaker 3: Because, yeah, that's why she even said Peter Tingle, because... He's.
- 54:55Speaker 6: Basically just like, he's just too stressed out to be Spidey.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Which that, again, I was almost like, That's almost too
- 55:01Speaker 2: similar to Spider-Man 2. Because he starts going through that
- 55:05Speaker 2: losing his powers because he doesn't... Doesn't have confidence. It's
- 55:08Speaker 2: the Tinkerbell version. If you got to believe in yourself,
- 55:10Speaker 2: everybody clap for Spider-Man and he'll save the train. It
- 55:14Speaker 2: felt like... I love 2, but that's the one thing
- 55:16Speaker 2: that felt weird and out of place. I'm like, why
- 55:19Speaker 2: is he losing his power because he doesn't feel it?
- 55:22Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 55:22Speaker 2: That was always weird to me. And this seemed a little...
- 55:25Speaker 2: At least they don't go that far with it. But yeah,
- 55:28Speaker 2: I guess there's at least... A reason why he's losing it,
- 55:31Speaker 2: but it still seems weird. Something that should be kind
- 55:34Speaker 2: of ingrained with the powers is now just kind of
- 55:37Speaker 2: for convenient writing purposes.
- 55:40Speaker 6: It makes the most sense, though. Of any of your
- 55:43Speaker 6: powers to lose, the Spidey sense seems like it would
- 55:46Speaker 6: require you to have a relatively unfogged mind to really
- 55:50Speaker 6: react to it. And if your brain is all mush.
- 55:54Speaker 2: If you're just distracted all the time, then yeah, maybe
- 55:56Speaker 2: you're not picking up on, again.
- 55:58Speaker 6: It's like the Spidey sense might still be there, but
- 56:00Speaker 6: you're like not tuning into it or something. I don't know. But.
- 56:04Speaker 2: And then you get hit by a train.
- 56:07Speaker 3: Did you guys feel like the hallway scene at the
- 56:11Speaker 3: end was supposed to feel a little bit like Star Wars?
- 56:14Speaker 3: Did you notice he closed his eyes before he did
- 56:16Speaker 3: the whole, I was like, Marvel? Are you doing a
- 56:20Speaker 3: Luke with him? Because he closes his eyes and uses
- 56:22Speaker 3: his spider senses to get down the hall. And then
- 56:24Speaker 3: there was another Star Wars reference, right? Something about.
- 56:28Speaker 2: Oh, you wouldn't get this line because it's not from
- 56:29Speaker 2: Star Wars. I figured that was just a shout out
- 56:33Speaker 2: to dorks in the entire audience and the fact that
- 56:36Speaker 2: we can make all the Star Wars references we want.
- 56:38Speaker 2: We own everything! So, I thought it was one and
- 56:43Speaker 2: the other. It was like, we have free reign to
- 56:45Speaker 2: make all the references we want. We own you guys.
- 56:47Speaker 11: No doubt.
- 56:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I really like that scene in the hallway. I
- 56:51Speaker 3: thought that was incredible.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, I like that because it's... Again, sometimes he
- 56:56Speaker 2: gets so, like, caught up in the suit and the
- 56:59Speaker 2: technology that, like, it is good to see that he
- 57:01Speaker 2: does have, like, ingrained, you know, superpowers. Yeah, he still
- 57:06Speaker 2: is a superhero himself without the Iron Man suit.
- 57:08Speaker 3: I mean, that's the thing with Tony. Tony didn't take
- 57:10Speaker 3: any fighting classes. He's just a dude with tech.
- 57:12Speaker 2: But it's like, Peter.
- 57:15Speaker 3: not that he's taken fighting classes either, but he's like
- 57:17Speaker 3: a gymnast. You know, that's the thing that Tony didn't
- 57:19Speaker 3: really have. Like he's very agile and all that stuff.
- 57:22Speaker 2: That was, I sort of made the reference in comparison earlier,
- 57:27Speaker 2: but so much in the middle of this trip that
- 57:32Speaker 2: I get a vibe of like, and that's why I
- 57:34Speaker 2: was like, maybe that's why this one feels so different
- 57:36Speaker 2: is it's like they were almost, this is, and I
- 57:39Speaker 2: sort of made that reference with Black Panther. It had
- 57:43Speaker 2: its own like, super spy James Bonfield to it. That's
- 57:47Speaker 2: all the middle of this became to me. It was
- 57:49Speaker 2: just like, so he's a dude with a secret identity.
- 57:53Speaker 2: He's trying to hide it from everybody else. He's taking,
- 57:55Speaker 2: he's got this massive like spy organization that's given him
- 57:59Speaker 2: orders to go out and do these things. He's going
- 58:02Speaker 2: to all these exotic locations. He's getting new gadgets and
- 58:05Speaker 2: tech from the, I mean like, it's almost like every
- 58:09Speaker 2: checklist on there.
- 58:10Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 58:11Speaker 2: It was like, is that like, are we gonna, we've
- 58:14Speaker 2: talked about having like offshoot side kind of movies that
- 58:17Speaker 2: are almost a different style, a different sub genre. Like,
- 58:20Speaker 2: is that kind of where we're going to go with
- 58:22Speaker 2: some of them? It's like, this is a one-off spy
- 58:24Speaker 2: movie for Spider-Man and he's in the, the cool black costume.
- 58:28Speaker 2: So I don't know. It had a weird vibe of
- 58:30Speaker 2: that in the middle of there.
- 58:32Speaker 3: I was feeling a lot of wizard of Oz, like
- 58:35Speaker 3: a lot of wizard of Oz.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Okay. Which version?
- 58:39Speaker 3: Well, just kind of like thematically. It felt like, um,
- 58:44Speaker 3: The green mist. Felt like the green curtain.
- 58:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:47Speaker 3: Just the whole premise of him, you know, fooling everybody.
- 58:50Speaker 3: The fields of flowers that he picks them up. And
- 58:54Speaker 3: I was like, that was like all the flowers outside
- 58:55Speaker 3: of Oz. There was things in there where I was like,
- 58:57Speaker 3: I feel like, you know, they're kind of like, not
- 59:00Speaker 3: that it was heavy handed, but I almost feel like
- 59:01Speaker 3: there was like these innuendos to Wizard of Oz. And
- 59:03Speaker 3: the fact that he's not at home.
- 59:05Speaker 2: You know, he's away.
- 59:06Speaker 3: Just, it felt like there was, a click tonally it
- 59:08Speaker 3: was supposed to feel a bit like wizard of oz.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Yeah i can kind of especially the the wizard illusion
- 59:15Speaker 2: part of it totally.
- 59:17Speaker 6: Fits yeah yeah i can see.
- 59:20Speaker 2: This so again asking the as we get into the
- 59:28Speaker 2: and then the bigger questions. So we, I remember when
- 59:30Speaker 2: we saw that first trailer, I think I even messaged you.
- 59:33Speaker 2: I was like, so that explains our, our multiverse that
- 59:36Speaker 2: we're going to get into.
- 59:37Speaker 3: So is that all bullshit now? I guess it's like,
- 59:39Speaker 3: because I thought that I thought this is what I
- 59:42Speaker 3: thought was, is that I don't remember what the earth
- 59:45Speaker 3: number was, but whatever the earth number was before, it
- 59:48Speaker 3: wasn't six one six or whatever he said it was.
- 59:50Speaker 3: It was like, it had nines in it. So I
- 59:52Speaker 3: was like, that's not even the same earth number we
- 59:55Speaker 3: were using before. So I don't know.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Maybe it's supposed to be an idea date.
- 59:59Speaker 3: He has a different map.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: And he gave us our accurate address or whatever.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: But it was just weird. Like, it was bugging me
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: how much Nick and Hill just bought into everything. At
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: the beginning of the movie, I'm like, this is the
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: most scrupulous man ever. He is totally on board. Well,
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: it sounds like bullshit.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: Elementals?
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Like, in a room full of scientists, you're telling me to...
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: And I know it's comic book shit.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Shit is weird.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: But come on. Elementals?
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: Like.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: You really tell me, like... Earth becomes sentient, becomes creature.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: It felt weak.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: I think I would have dug it more if they
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: would have taken four actual villains and said, these four
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: villains escape from this dimension and I'm chasing them. Make
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: it Sandman, Magma Man. There are villains that do these things.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: It just felt cheap to me to make it elementals.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: And then the fact that most of them are dead already.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Two are already dead. They kill the one, they fight
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: the fire. It's like, I don't know. Again, it was thin.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: I didn't ever feel like any of this was an
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: actual threat.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: But it wasn't. Maybe that's the point.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Were they purposely trying to do this because it's bullshit?
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: Because, yeah, when they pulled the elementals, I was like,
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: what is this whack-ass shit? That ain't real.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: And even, like, Gyllenhaal's, like, kind of making fun of you.
- 1:01:11Speaker 10: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: You're ridiculous.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: There's not an element fire. You know, what do you
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: mean elementals? Like, where's the nitrogen beast? Where's the hydrogen beast?
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Like.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: It does sound like something out of a comic book.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: I'll give him that. So, like, again, he's making fun of, like,
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: you're a ridiculous story. You totally tricked him. So they're
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: kind of making fun of their own ridiculous story within
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: the context of it. So there's a little metaphor for you.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: But I don't know. It did feel like a very
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: comic book-y thing. And is that why, I mean, now, again,
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: I want to know how involved he is. Because is
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: that why Hill and Samuel L. are just buying into this?
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Because it's not them. So are these guys not near
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: as swift and schooled in the ways of all this
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: shit that's been going on these last 20, 30 years?
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: So they're just like, oh, yeah, he said it's elemental. Like,
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: are they buying it? But I'm like, is Samuel not
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: up there with a monitor going, wait.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Fucking elemental. That's the kind of stuff that I don't understand.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just like, is he not connected at all
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: to what they're doing? Because it seems like he'd still
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: be calling the shots because he's Fury. Like, that's what
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: he fucking does. So, yeah, I don't. That part, again,
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: it's sort of one or the other, but when you
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: have both, it doesn't make any sense anymore.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't imagine him calling me at the end
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: on the phone to kind of be like, yeah, we
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: gave him the glasses. You're just now telling him? You've
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: spent three days chasing elementals over the planet. You're just
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: now being like, yeah, he's got the glasses.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: It's all good.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Again, it doesn't make sense at all with Fury's character.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: If this is a global issue... He's going to hang
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: out in the ship on a virtual beach instead of
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: being like, well, maybe this is something that requires me.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: He'd already signed up for these hours of vacation. He
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: had to take them. You don't want to lose them.
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: Oh, my God. What if Fury knew about Magnifico? He
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: wouldn't do that. What if it was like a test?
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that would be shitty of Fury to be like,
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: He'll figure it out. Sink or swim.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: I can't think of another reason why he would not
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: be involved.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: It never made sense to me that Mysterio could convince Fury.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Even if it was the fake one, this is still
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: a creature that has space.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Technology and stuff.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: He should still be able to look at you in
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: the face and be like, no, man, that shit ain't real.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: That guy's been around a long time. He's seen a
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: lot of weird space shit. He should know. I've never
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: heard of any elements like that. I've been to all
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: these different places. I've never heard of this nonsense, so.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: Yeah, for them to buy in, not only into this guy,
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: but into the idea of a multiverse, an idea of elementals,
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: you know, it was, and I get, like I said,
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: you know, that's Mysterio's thing as long as, but it
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: just felt like it's damaging on Fury's character to be
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: this gullible. And just like back to Final Den, he
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: was like not even really doing anything the whole movie.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: He's like, really?
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: You just, you just don't care now? You phoned in
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: this whole movie?
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: But I wonder how far away Fury is at this point.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: Like maybe he can't just go back and fix everything.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: That's what they said. He's not on that space station
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: from Captain Marvel. So wherever he is, it's somewhere further
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: away at least. So yeah, we don't know what they're
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: planning with that or what he's... Again, how long has
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: he been there? How long has this whole process been
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: going on?
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: And was I imagining it, or was it a ship
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: full of Skrulls? That's what it looked like. It was
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: other green people, right?
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: So he is.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't... I guess technically they could still be
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: doing the sword thing, but it's just... It's a very
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: weird way of doing it. Especially when they're acting like
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: this is the end of the first... Well, the end
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: of the phase and whatever. It's like, yeah, but you're already...
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: kind of connecting yourself in the next one a bit.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: It's not quite a clean cut.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: You're doing some strange things. I think they have to.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: I think the relatively clean cut was the last one.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: And now it's like, well, we don't want to totally
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: cut it off so that nobody comes back.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: It's like Netflix, where the second to last episode is
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: the real finale, and the last episode is to get
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: you hyped for another season.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: While we're running the credits, we're going to be like, hey,
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: next up, in the next nine seconds, we're going to
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: start Spider-Man, and he's going to go on a crazy
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: trip and keep you invested a little bit. That's why
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: I thought it was weird that as quick as this
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: came out after, after, you know, end game, just like,
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: is that going to step on the toes? Is that
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: going to like, are we, are we not done like
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: grieving yet? Are we ready for a fun adventure? Like,
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: so it's amazing that it financially did as well as
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: it did, but yeah, I do wonder if like, maybe
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: we needed a little more time. Maybe we needed to
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: end it like kind of differently, but you do, I
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: think you do have to like put those like feelers
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: out into the next one. So that way people are
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: just not capping it off and be like, okay, I'm
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: glad I saw that MCU stuff. We're done with that.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Let's go see the new Star Wars. You kind of
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: have to keep dragging them along every step of the way.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: Which is why I want to believe the Skrull stuff
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: is definitely just going forward. Because the last thing you
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: want is everyone questioning the last phase. Because how long
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: was Furious Skrull? It's like, let's just let that be
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: a done phase. Let's assume it's just this movie and
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: going forward. Cause if not, you're going to blow everyone's minds.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: If you pull some stuff like that, where fury has
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: been doing stuff in the past with scrolls.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Again, every one of these has made that move. Like
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: they always go back and be like, ah, but you
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: see like 12 years ago, this happened and it made
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: this happen. And that's why we're here. So like planting
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: that seed is like too obvious. Like they can't not
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: make good on that now. Right? Like, We've already thrown
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: out so many big... The fact that not only do
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: we have the loophole to use time travel to do
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: whatever the fuck we want now, but we also can
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: have a doppelganger version of whoever we want at any
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: given moment, too.
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: Things are going to get real confusing.
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: Or they can get real confusing.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: We've opened it up maybe too much?
- 1:07:01Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: But again, comic books have been doing that forever. They
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: have no rules, essentially, so... Sometimes they make that work
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: just fine. So I'm not saying it's definitely trouble. It's
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: got potential for trouble.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: I mean, Spider-Pig is canon now.
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: Damn straight.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: And it's pretty entertaining.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Miles should be in the next movie. Have it where
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: he didn't blip. Because he was the younger brother to Glover.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: Have it where he didn't blip. So he's like Collins age.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: He's Peter's age.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: And have them.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Have them actually be in a movie together. After Spider-Verse,
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Miles needs to be in a movie.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Yeah, this was just kind of geeky stuff on the internet,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: but they were like, all those big Iron Man murals,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: they might.
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: Have been done by Miles. I saw where people were
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: shooting it down. I was like, no, those are in Queens.
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: He's in the Bronx.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: I heard that too. Not only are geeks coming up
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: with crazy stuff, but they're ready to shoot it down.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Don't worry. Internet, that's what it's for.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: Did it feel to you guys that, I felt like
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: there was some, I don't know what you would call it,
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: some evolutions. I felt like as much as they ignored
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: Ben in the first movie, I feel like Stark's the
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: new Ben, right? This is the guy that's dead.
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: That he will always still be trying to impress and
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: appease and stuff, even in death. I felt like there
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: was almost like a weird passing of the torch there
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: where it's like, Stark will be his Ben going forward.
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: I think definitely. I think it's, it just sort of, like,
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: the Ben thing, I guess, kind of pushed him into
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: that area, but it didn't give him, like, the fuel
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: for the fire that, like, Stark was. Like, Stark, especially
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: the losing Stark part of it. That is something, again,
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: with the direction end of it, how much he worked
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: in this, overpowering shadow of Tony Stark everywhere he went
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: is kind of cool. And some of that imagery was
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: really great. It is funny that it was just Stark.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: There was no... I agree.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Captain.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: america like yeah i was like captain america too even
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: like you know i would kind of understand if they
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: didn't know who black widow.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: But yeah captain america surely right definitely captain america like
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: he was already like a fucking poster boy in world
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: war ii so like you'd think they'd be thrown it
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: is interesting they put him in the memoriam too it's like.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: I'm assuming they've told the world he's dead because if
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: not they'd have to explain why he's an old man
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: so it's like did they just tell the world he
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: died too and he's just kind of quietly living.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: That was them like trying to go ahead and put
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: a cap on that no pun intended or if it
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: was really just like well we have to come up
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: with a cover story because otherwise we have to explain
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: that he did this thing that people probably would argue
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: he didn't need to be doing.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: So i just and i it also it felt like
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: a ben thing when um happy was like passing the
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: message something like heavy is the head that wears the
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: crown like it felt like that was the with great
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: power it thing I was like this is he's his
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: Ben now.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Yeah kind of what I mean what are your thoughts
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: on the Happy because Happy has become like an essential
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: part of Spider-Man now because he's the only real crossover
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: in these two movies more or less I mean there's
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: tons of little ones but I'm like our main character
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: that's keeping everything running and keeping the sort of like
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: connected to S.H.I.E.L.D. or whatever Fury's running now it's like
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: all of that goes through Happy now so like I
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: don't know. Like, in a way, I'm glad to see
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: him back in the series. Like, just the, you know, Favreau. Like,
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: I mean, you created all this, so I'm kind of
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: glad that you're not like the, you know, bastard child.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: Oh, Feige's taking care of him. After what Feige went
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: through with X-Men, I think he's like, I'm going to
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: take care of you.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: You did a real good job. I want to keep
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: you involved. I'll get you a paycheck every couple of movies.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: It's good. Like, yeah. But it's, it is funny that
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: he totally stepped into because they already like especially in
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: in civil war like they're playing the whole like chemistry
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: with with aunt may so now that he's gone and
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: couldn't do it because they immediately put him back with
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: pepper then it's like well we want to you know
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: we want to give her somebody you know she's it
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: is ridiculous that she's by herself because She's still Marissa Tomei,
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: for God's sake.
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, you can try to put her in all the
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: mom pants you want. Don't think that makes her unattractive.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: You can try as hard as you want. Yeah, I'm
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: not saying it's taken away from it, but they were
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: up to her mid-stomach area. The ones after she threw
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: the banana at him. I was just like, Jesus, did
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: they make mom jeans any more mom than that mom
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: right there? Good Lord, those were great.
- 1:11:44Speaker 6: They're back in style now.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: And she's rocking it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: Literally everyone under 25 pretty much exclusively wears high-waisted mom jeans.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: That's the style. But I think we do need, like,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: because you like both of those characters so much, it's like,
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: I have no problem with it. I'm like, obviously we
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: kind of want them to be together. And we know,
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: you know, there's, you know, Peter's always going to have
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: his own thing to deal with. But, like, there's nobody
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: for her. There's nobody for him. This is, like, the
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: way it needs to be.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Happy is, like, becoming that surrogate for whoever's... Again, before
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: we had Fury, he was already there. And even with Fury, like,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: coming and going, like, Happy's the one that keeps coming
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: in to take him to the next level of whatever
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: needs to happen on the mission or, I don't know,
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: any of that stuff.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it will be strange if it gets to the
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: point where he's, like, in the house. You know, not
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: a dad person. I mean, I guess kind of, though. Like,
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: they're so close that he's kind of around... Because I
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: don't know... I don't know if that adds or subtracts
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: from the Peter....
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: I don't think it changes the Tony Stark thing, though,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: because Happy feels the same way about him. He is
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: still so much almost like a father figure to Happy, too,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: that I think it's almost more of a brother's camaraderie
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: more so than he becomes the new dad.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Weird.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: Their life's complicated. You gotta tell me, if you got
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Happy in your life, you just embrace it and you
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: go with it and be glad you got a Happy there.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: I don't think this would actually happen, but I do
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: kind of wonder... Because I don't think, I don't know,
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: I don't think the way it's written and stuff that
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: Happy could ever turn into a bad guy. But there
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: are versions of Doc Ock that's kind of a tweener
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: who has dated May. And they've had that situation where
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: like Peter is aware that Doc Ock is dating May
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: kind of stuff.
- 1:13:32Speaker 11: Interesting.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: I don't know if they would go that route to
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: have Happy somehow mind control or go bad or something
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: to do that. But that's the only time I can
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: think of like a father figure-ish type in Peter's life
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: is when Doc Ock was... trying to hit at may
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: but i don't i mean i think you.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Need to go back to that vulture thing.
- 1:13:49Speaker 9: Like definitely they already planted that in the last teaser
- 1:13:53Speaker 9: introduce more people get that going he had that dynamic
- 1:13:56Speaker 9: i mean i don't know if they didn't want keaton
- 1:13:58Speaker 9: or keaton doesn't want to do it again but please
- 1:13:59Speaker 9: get keaton back yeah like that was.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Fantastic but he yeah i mean he already had that
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: like weird dad thing going on there it wasn't his
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: but like still it was that same vibe of like
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: i don't know there was something really cool in that
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: dynamic that i would they already Again, they tease it
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: in that first movie, so I'm hoping we make good
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: on it somewhere next movie maybe. But yeah, normally I
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: wouldn't want to revisit that same villain right away, but
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: he's so damn good.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: The fact that they made the vulture of all Spider-Man villains,
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: you made the vulture cool.
- 1:14:33Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: Get the F out.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: That is one of the dorkiest comic designs there is.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: The dude literally looks like a vulture. And they made
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: him with that fluffy collar.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: And the creepy old man version of him in the
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: comic that like they made cool.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: Because isn't he bald and stuff too?
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: He's old. He's like old and crotchety and bald.
- 1:14:51Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: So they made Keaton kind of like a badass.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: The hyper tech version of him just looked rad.
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: I dig it. I mean, I'd like to think that
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: they can successfully do that with, was it Scorpion and- uh,
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Rhino and all the other sinister, like get them all
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: looking modern and cool and have them. I don't know.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: I mean, I.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Don't know.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: That's a lot of villains for him to take. I
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: don't know if they're going to, if I almost wonder
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: if his villains are going to become the overarching villains.
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: Like maybe Osborne will be the new Thanos.
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: I was thinking that.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: This has to be bigger implications.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: I feel like I was wondering as we got out
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: of this, like, where do we see it going now
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: that we've capped off the whole, you know, in theory, the,
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: the Thanos, the gauntlet, all of that stuff. Like, okay, we,
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: I'm assuming they're still going to want to go for
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: at least a bigger, maybe not as big an arc
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: as that one was, but at least a crossover thing
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: that's going to affect all of the movies kind of ideas.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: So it's really.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: Weird because I looked at a list a couple of
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: days ago of like, and we'll get official announcements later
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: this month. Apparently San Diego comic-con is going to give
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: the official movie breakdown for the next phase. But just
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: from the rumors and what's believed is in production, there's
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: no connection. The Eternals, Black Widow, especially if you include
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: the Disney show, they're going to have Red Falcon and
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: Winter Soldier kicking it. Loki, Wanda and Vision.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: I assume we're still getting another Black Panther. What's going
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: to connect?
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: Black Panther gets another. Guardians gets another. I don't think
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: another Ant-Man's official. But it's weird because what villain can tie,
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: especially Eternals, what villain ties all these people?
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: I assumed they were going to go... The only thing
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: that was big enough to be a grand thing is
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: going with the Captain Marvel thing. Because that's such a
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: huge galactic version, you could pull in a big galactic
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: villain to work in. Like Galactus. like galactus i guess.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: But again maybe that's why marvel captain marvel's like well
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: and that's what and again this could just be complete
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: coincidence but the uh and again this is actually one
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: of i feel like one of the plot holes when
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: peter says the whole thing to fury that tips him
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: off that mysterio's fake he says something about his surfboard
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: I was like, are you purposely teasing Silver Surfer? Not
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: that that's a tease at Silver Surfer, but to say
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: surfboard in a world where we know that the Fantastic
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: Four is waiting on the docket. I was like, you're
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: putting Silver Surfer in our heads, aren't you?
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: And if you're putting Silver Surfer in the heads, you're
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: putting Galactus in the heads.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Did you hear that cast Keanu Reeves for an undisclosed part?
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: Oh, shoot.
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: If Keanu Reeves plays Silver Surfer or Adam Warlock, either one.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: You can have Adam Warlock because we know we need
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Doug Jones to come back. That's the one good thing
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: that came out of that movie.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: He would be rad AF as Silver Surfer.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: How good he was as Silver Surfer.
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: And I will gladly take Keanu as Adam Warlock. I
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: think he'd be fantastic in that part, actually. I'm pretty
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: into Eternals casting. This stuff's about to get crazy. Angelina
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Jolie's in there.
- 1:18:06Speaker 10: They're just.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: What were the other names? It was like all these
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: like legit people. Salma Hayek is going to be one
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: of the Eternals. Like this whole slew of big actors
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: that are like, okay, let's do this.
- 1:18:18Speaker 10: Okay, this is.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Making all the money now. So if I want a job,
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: I need to get myself into Marvel somewhere. I feel
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: like it either.
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: I feel like maybe Osborn would be at a low
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: key level villain. He'll have his toes in it, but
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: somehow he'll be affiliated with Galactus or something.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Like, I don't know. But just.
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: Tying in all these different people to any kind of cross,
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: unless it is just secret invasion. It's just, oh my God,
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: everyone come back to earth. All these people are actually Skrulls.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: They could definitely do.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: But then what does the phase finish on? Unless it's
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: something really big. Unless they just scrapped that whole formula.
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: Maybe they don't even care now about a big bad.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: If we're pulling from older movies, again, to pull Doug
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: back to do Silver Surfer, since we did get a
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: nice little cameo from acknowledging the old run of Spider-Man movies,
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: we got J.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: Jonah Jameson. Oh my gosh, that was... I feel like
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: they broke the rules, but I'm so okay with it.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: I was so happy.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: That's the one time when you're like, well, yeah. And
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: that he's like this modern Infowars kind of guy. It's
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: not the paper anymore.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: I completely dug that evolution for him. I was like,
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: that's very cool. And the fact that we get... him
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: like oh my gosh jk.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: That's another one of those that was just you can't
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: get more perfect casting than that like it was the
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: it was the right person then he's only gotten bigger
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: as like a celebrity now so it's like it's even
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: better to pull him in if you can so it's
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: like yeah go ahead and work him into that next
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: movie as much as you want because people.
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: Love older and more evil looking yeah perfect.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: And yet again i do like the angle of like
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: yeah newspapers are dead why why would we even Try
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: to start that again. So now it's like Peter going
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: to end up working for this weird website thing or whatever.
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: I wonder if that connection is going to start taking
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: pictures or video or something for this thing. But come on.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: I almost don't feel like that can work in this.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: He just outright.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: That's true. They did change the game.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: Why would you go get a job for the guy
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: that hates you?
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: I don't know. They'll figure it out. They changed the
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: game right there when it was like the entire run
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: of old Spidey was he's constantly hiding and like taking
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: pictures of himself and being, you know, he's doing the
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Clark Kent dual role thing where now that's gone. It's
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: off the table. So from this point on, we've got
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: to figure out what it What this new world is
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: where everybody knows who he is. I mean, we had that,
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: I guess, with Captain America. Everybody knew who he was.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: He was a soldier. It's fine when you're a grown-ass
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: adult that can go over there and just do the thing.
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: But it's like, you're still a kid. You still got
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: to finish school and be out in the public. And
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: everyone knows you're Spider-Man?
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: I think that's a weird new term that I didn't
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: expect him to pull this early on. I mean, eventually,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: you figure maybe we get to that. But yeah, this
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: early in the run of Spidey. you know, it's the
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: second solo movie. And cause I thought it was interesting.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Even the first movie when he immediately, well, by the
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: end of it already outed himself to Aunt May, which was,
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: you know, all the overarching story of every comic book
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: and animated version was how much trouble he went to,
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: to hide his identity from Aunt May over and over
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: and over again. So like now we've already outed him
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: to Aunt May and MJ. So it's like immediately like, well,
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: all right, we'll just tell the world what the hell. So.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: That's a weird new dynamic we gotta mess with.
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: I guess we'll find out. San Diego Comic Con. I
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: think it's just a couple weeks.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: By the time you're listening, you're probably like, yeah, you idiots,
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: we already know what the line is. But as we
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: record this, we don't know, so it's not our fault.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: Got any other random stuff we need to address? No.
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: Can't really think of anything else at the moment.
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: I'm surprised we pulled out that much.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: I was like, once we get into it, it opens
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: a whole lot of cans of worms. In my head,
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: I can't stop thinking about it. When I first stepped
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: out of theater, I was just like, all right. Like
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: I said, it felt like Iron Man 2, Thor 2.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: I enjoyed both of those movies, but I didn't necessarily
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: try to rewatch them again. And I kind of felt
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: like that. I was like, I don't know if I'm ever.
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: Because even in my head, I was like, what scenes,
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: what parts of this do I really want to see again?
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Like I said, if the banter and stuff doesn't grab me,
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: And the majority of it is the banter.
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: There is no part of it that I really would
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: care to see again.
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where I am. It's not that it was
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: made bad. It's not that they did anything wrong. I'm
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: not even saying it's a bad movie. I don't think
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: that movie was made for me this time. It didn't
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: grab me specifically. I'm sure kids love it.
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: I mean, again, it's like Spider-Man as a character just
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: keeps getting more and more. Like even so much so
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: that you know, the animated offshoot version was successful. Like
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: I did not expect that to do as well as
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: it did. And like people just, it's Spider-Man. Like they
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: were just on board with Spider-Man. So I mean, maybe
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: it is just pulling in a ton of new grownup
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: fans and kids continually love Spider-Man.
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: So it's.
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: And I guess also off the tails of Spider-Verse, I
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: guess we can't ignore that really like that, even though
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: it's not Peter.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: Kind of is, but kind of not. You know, maybe
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: in my head I separate that stuff in some kind
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: of way where everyone else is just still flying high
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: off Spider-Verse, goes right into this movie. Not that I
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: didn't like Spider-Verse, but it's just, I guess that rush
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: has already died down for me to where I didn't
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: connect it to, but maybe general public is more still
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: kind of hyped off what they just saw of Spider-Verse.
- 1:23:48Speaker 9: Like, yeah.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: You saw Spider-Man be cool again in the game. You
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: saw him like, you know, so you got just enough.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, plus the game.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: That was huge, hugely successful. I bet that is a
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: big chunk. Of that $ 600 million opening weekend. That PS4
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: game killed it financially. It was a huge success. And
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: I want to mention it because in video games, usually
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: movie video games are garbage.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and they have always been. It's just infamous.
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: It's just been this thing. Just no one can get
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: it right. Other than Batman Arkham, there's exceptions. But they're
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: almost their own universe now. Everyone's just like, here we
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: go with another Spider-Man game. And they knocked it out
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: the park with this one.
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: I haven't started... playing it um we have it and
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: nick's been playing it like all the time the only
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: thing i can't handle is like it plays the goddamn
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: music like like every single time it's you start swinging
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: and i'm like i can't listen to this anymore i
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: can't listen to this goddamn arpeggio one more goddamn time
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: when we.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Know his real theme music i do like it got
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: worked in both times we get the ramones again I
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: was like, so is that kind of because it's his
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: hometown band? I was like, is that going to be
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: a continual tie-in for this version of Spider-Man?
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: But they still haven't straight up played the theme, though, right?
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: They still haven't done the Ramones cover, I don't believe.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: No, they just keep playing other Ramones songs.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: They play other Ramones, but they won't play where the
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: Ramones covered the Spider-Man theme. That's so bizarre that they
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: dance around it.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Am I crazy?
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: Or did they play the National Lampoon's European Vacation music?
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: You know the whole Holiday Row song or whatever?
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: I know that song really well.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: That melody in my crate.
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: Did I imagine I heard that at some point? I
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: don't remember. Because at some point I thought. But again,
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: it's light enough. I can see them working that in.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: If I imagine I just heard it, but really did.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: Because they were in Europe and I was like, did
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: I just imagine that? Or was that really? Because I
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: don't think I was paying attention to music until the end.
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: I was like, wait, was that the National Lampoon's European?
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: Did Spider-Man knock over Stonehenge? No, I think I'm confusing them. So,
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: I don't know. But yeah, I mean, I can see
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: them working that in, maybe. I don't remember it, though.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: But that's the other thing, and just moving forward, because
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: they sort of slam the door, but at the same time,
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: you listen to Peter go into the theory about multiverses.
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: So we've still got it like it does exist as
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: a concept now. I mean, it always has in the
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: comics and all these other incarnations, but he brings it
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: up specifically in the middle of his Spider-Man movie. So
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: they do kind of leave it cracked just enough to
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: be like, well, remember that thing we were talking about?
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: That wasn't real, but this version over here is going
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: to be next movie or two movies out. They really
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: could start playing with that.
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: And then Thanos comes back again.
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: Oh, gosh.
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: No.
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: But did you hear one of the... There's.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: Like five.
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: Marvel shows coming up on Disney over the next year
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: or whatever when they start their streaming. One of them
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: is just based on what if comics. I don't know
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: if you remember what if comics.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: What if comics usually tackled big topics. If they do
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: a good job. This person got Thor's hammer.
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: I remember one of my favorite ones was what if
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: Dark Phoenix won? And it's like she converts Wolverine, makes
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: him kind of like God. She basically somehow puts his
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: consciousness into the animantium skeleton to where he's like, He's
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: just invincible. As his flesh is getting torn off, it
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: doesn't matter. And he was like her main soldier and
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: they destroy Earth and all this stuff. But I was like,
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: doing a TV show that could be rad if the
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: money's there.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: That's what I was going to say.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: To get behind it?
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: That could be really cool. There was a time that
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: wouldn't work, but in the streaming world that people just
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: want series and they also don't care that they're little
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: segmented stories because Black Mirror has found a weird audience.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: If you put a Black Mirror spin on that kind
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: of thing and give it a good budget and bring
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: in real actors, that could really be awesome. But again,
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: it depends what they do.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Rumors are the first what if, and I don't know
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: who would notice, but I guess the example I keep
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: saying is that one of the ones I guess they
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: probably used the hyped idea is doing what if, I'm
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: going to forget her name. What's Captain America's girl?
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: Oh, Peggy?
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Peggy.
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: What if Peggy took the super soldier serum instead of Rogers.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: And so it was like, one of them would be
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: about a female.
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: If they can bring her back.
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: Captain America. But I was like, where do you, do
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: you just show her becoming Captain America? Do you show
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: her like now in the future?
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: Do you do both?
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: Like somebody's topic is like, well, how do you cover
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: that in an hour episode? I assume an hour, an
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: hour episode on a streaming, unless it's each one's a season.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: Like I said, I need to know more, but it
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: could be like those seasons of what if. If you
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: could get her to come back and do that role,
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: again oh that was.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: Awesome i kind of want to keep it would be
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: was great awesome in general that whole i like that.
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: Unless it would be almost like a sherlock like each
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: episode is like two hours long and you could do
- 1:28:51Speaker 6: it that way.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: Yeah just wrap up a mini movie idea more or
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: less and.
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: Yeah yeah i'm totally interested in that show, depending on how,
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: how much they commit. If it ends up being like silly,
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: what ifs, you know, but the, what if comics in,
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: in the late eighties, early nineties, like there was some
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: really good ones that would just take some saga to
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: just end and be like, what if this is what happened?
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: You know? I mean, cause you can do no brainer stuff.
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: Like what if so-and-so got the infinity gauntlet, you know,
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: low key or, you.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: Know, whatever you can do.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: So many, there's so many, not that I want to
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: see like a million different people with, you know, with
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: the infinity gauntlet, but just, Yeah, there's a lot of really,
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: if you are dedicated to showing us like a really
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: involved version of that, but if it's just going to be,
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: you know, kind of called in like, oh, this is
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: what would happen.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I can read the comic.
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: I mean, give me a real engaging version of this
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: and I'll be in.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: That's why I went immediately towards something like Black Mirror.
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: I was like, if you take it like dark, like
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: if you really like dive into the what if part
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: of it, Because that is, like, the fact that we brought,
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: you know, the Black Mirror is so big that the
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: new Twilight Zone is finding an audience. Like, people kind
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: of like those little weird one-off stories. So you could
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: take that, put the Marvel spin on it, and throw
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: a good amount of money in. And I think, yeah,
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: it could be great. And your what-if-got-the-hammer reminded me. Happy
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: with the shield was funny.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: That was one of the times I was like, okay,
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: that was funny. I was like, he's got to address it, right?
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: He just threw a shield. That was pretty damn funny.
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: So I'd say what's coming up next, but we don't
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: really know. And by the time you listen, you already know.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Black Widow is next. The streaming service starts in November,
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: but I don't know if any of the Marvel shows
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: will be ready.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: But I know that movie-wise... Black Widow is happening because
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: they're casting, they're filming and all that.
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: Do we know what time period this is?
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: It's supposed to be before she signed. This is going
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: to be her in Russia training to be an assassin.
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: I forget the girl.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: She has like a rival. So Red Sparrow.
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: Some blonde girl is like, you know, the one that's
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: just as good as her. But apparently like they're, I
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: don't know if they're filming in Russia, but they're filming
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: in a valet assassination school. In a green room that
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: looks just like Russia. And I assume Hawkeye will be
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: in there. Because Budapest.
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: At least by the end.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: If Fury knew about Budapest too, right?
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: So maybe.
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:31:15Speaker 10: So Fury.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess there will be some S.H.I.E.L.D. and stuff
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: in there, but I guess it happens before Iron Man,
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: I would think.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: It would happen.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: Before the first movie would be.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: Because she's in two, so it can't be.
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: She's in one, right? No, she's in two, right? Yeah,
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: she does show up in the second one.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: She kind of sneaks her way in, and we're like.
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: She's the best part of two, though. Her fight in
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: the hallway then, it's just straight up Buffy. It's just
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: Joss was like, Buffy the Vampire Slayer right here, right now.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: There's some really good stuff in two, but it's a
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: mixed bag. Again, it falls into that same category of.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: I'm glad it happened because we needed the movie where
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: Stark becomes a piece of shit.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: In the comics, that's a fundamental part. When he becomes
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: a raging alcoholic piece of shit, you need that for
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: his comeuppance. And that's what 2 is. That part works
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: for him, too. It's just him being a drunk mess.
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: I forgot about him being plastered drunk in Iron Album.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: In the zoo, firing stuff out.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: He's just shooting lasers around. I was like, he really
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: was a mess in that second movie.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: And we start off with a good villain, and then
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: we waste it.
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought Whiplash looked great on screen.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: Him walking out in the middle of the race is
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: a badass scene. It is great. And then we put
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: him in a cell and he's useless the whole rest
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: of the movie. We switch up to the other guy.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: The business guy so much that there's a point in
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: the second half of the movie where you realize he's
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: going to be in it so much. I'm like, I
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: don't care now, man. I don't like this dude.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: It's a couple of missteps, but there's some great stuff
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: in there.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: I can say the same thing about Thor 2, too, though.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: I think there's great scenes in Thor 2. Movies as
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: a whole, there's something about parts other than Captain America.
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: Captain America is like the greatest trilogy, comic-wise, maybe ever made,
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: arguably against Batman movies and stuff. But yeah, everyone else's
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: part twos are kind of meh.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: Not the early ones, because X2... comparatively was great well
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: back when spider-man 2 like yeah back when snuck in
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: was like wow it's pretty good because they focus so
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: much on the origin in the first couple and then
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: they finally get a chance.
- 1:33:15Speaker 13: To do like a good story because that's when it's
- 1:33:17Speaker 13: wolverine that's when it's yeah they started after killing it
- 1:33:21Speaker 13: all so all right so we'll just go watch some
- 1:33:24Speaker 13: old movies now we'll dust off our x2s and our
- 1:33:27Speaker 13: spider-man 2s and we'll go watch those.
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: All right The puppies have gone to sleep now, so
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: it's time to wrap up.
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: Be quiet.
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: Zuzu's napping. Otherwise, that about does it. We will return
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: next time. Same geek feed.
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: Thanks for listening.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: Back here at home, there's nothing to.
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: I see I was wrong.
- 1:34:27Speaker 8: And I'm not so strong.
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: I should have known all along.
- 1:34:31Speaker 10: Time would tell.
- 1:34:32Speaker 8: A week.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: Without you.
- 1:34:38Speaker 8: Thought I'd forget.
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: Two weeks without you.
- 1:35:01Speaker 8: Vacation had to get away Vacation had.
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: To be spelled out hard.
- 1:35:27Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: Vacation all I.
- 1:35:54Speaker 8: Ever wanted Vacation had to get away Vacation.
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: Meant to be spent alone Vacation all I ever wanted
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: Vacation had to get away Vacation meant to be spent
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: alone In this Pattinson Batman?
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: The rumor is either Penguin or Clayface.
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: I mean, we've not had a good Clayface, you know.
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: At least Penguin we've seen. I feel like this is
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: his mod cap stuff. Maybe that's why they got him.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: This isn't going to be a Clayface? Clayface would be cool.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: I mean, again, he was always badass in the animated series.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: But we've never seen... So I worry about anything in
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: that CG. But with him involved, I mean, shit, he
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: knows what he's doing. Or it could just be a
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: highly creepy penguin. Which, Danny DeVito. That's what I was
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: going to say. You can't get more, again, perfect casting.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I mean, dude just looks like fucking
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: Danny DeVito. Like, the poor bastard just looks like Danny DeVito.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: A little bad for Danny DeVito.
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: Wasn't there a commercial not too long ago that basically
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: was like, Wasn't it the whole grumpy.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: Kind of commercial?
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: Well, no, the M & M' s, because they said he
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: looked like a terrible version, you know, and.
- 1:37:18Speaker 13: Then Danny DeVito played, like, the ugly version of Sun.
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: I was like, that's so mean. Like, you casted him
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: as ugly guy. Well, even then, that one is him, like,
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: when they're making fun of him, he looks like an
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: M & M.
- 1:37:30Speaker 9: Like, he's short and round and bald on top, and like.
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: He was in one of those Eminem ones and they
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: were like, look, Eminem! Good sense of humor. Yeah, because
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: he was running around going, eat me! Come on, eat me!
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: And then people were like, get away from me. He's
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: just like making money off what a weirdo he is now.
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: Not that he didn't kind of always do that.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: You don't have to say it to his face, though. Like, hey,
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: ugly guy, come here. Ugly guy on set. He's like,
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: as long as you write me a big-ass check, you
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: can call me.
- 1:37:58Speaker 7: I go, I don't care.
