- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today we are talking about the Martha Stewart documentary on
- 0:34Netflix and you might be saying, well, why are we talking about
- 0:37that today? Well, first of all, some of you
- 0:41may know from listening over the years that I really love Martha
- 0:45Stewart. Not I know she's very
- 0:48controversial and lots of people have opinions on her, but what I
- 0:51love about Martha and what I love about her story is that she
- 0:56is constantly resilient and she does not let anything get in her
- 1:00way from her outcomes. Now, is that sometimes her
- 1:04detriment? Yes.
- 1:05And she even talks about that at the end of the documentary
- 1:08where, you know, over the years, she has learned to maybe soften
- 1:13a bit in certain areas. However, her standards have
- 1:17always been very, very high and continue to be very, very high
- 1:21as she is in her 80s. And look at what she's still
- 1:24doing. Look at how she's reinvented
- 1:25herself. Look at how she has come back
- 1:28from so much. And I mean, most of us come back
- 1:32from things, but not at that level of what she did.
- 1:35But we also don't, you know, create ourselves to be what she
- 1:39is at that level and, you know, go out there to become that
- 1:45person that is teaching people it's okay to be the homemaker
- 1:50and do it in a fabulous way. You know, if you get a chance to
- 1:55watch the documentary, I highly recommend it because it does
- 1:58give you insight into how she thinks, how she operates and
- 2:03whatnot. Now, for me, why this touched
- 2:07home so much is I have heard many times over the years that
- 2:10my standards are ridiculous. My standards are too high.
- 2:13I pour too much in. People love to give me opinions
- 2:16on this stuff. And over the years I have had to
- 2:20learn that their opinions are not my opinions.
- 2:23And in the words of my mentor, Wayne Dyer, you know, I can free
- 2:27myself from the good opinion of other people if I choose to do
- 2:30so. And I have, because I don't
- 2:32think that I should be building my life on an on their
- 2:37standards. I should build my life on my
- 2:39standards. Think about what I just said.
- 2:42I should not be building my life on their standards.
- 2:45I should be building it on my standards.
- 2:48Now, unless you want somebody else's standards or you want
- 2:51their life or you look at them and you say they have everything
- 2:54I want and I would love to be able to have exactly what they
- 2:57have and how they show up. Then have at it.
- 3:00If you if you look at somebody and you say that's what I'm
- 3:03looking for great model their standards.
- 3:06However, for most of us that receive, you know, information
- 3:10from other people as to whether or not something is good or not,
- 3:15most of us are getting it from people who are not at the place
- 3:18we would choose to be. And therefore we're getting
- 3:21mixed signals because they're willing to give us opinions that
- 3:25quite frankly suck. And then here we are left
- 3:28withholding that opinion in our hands, looking at it and saying,
- 3:32well, geez, maybe there's something wrong with me and my
- 3:35friends. There's not.
- 3:36If you have high standards and you choose to live by those high
- 3:39standards, then I highly recommend you view those
- 3:42standards and say, you know what, I am OK with living with
- 3:47my standards now. I can tell you right now I am
- 3:49very OK living with my standards because I feel as though my
- 3:53standards are set up and aligned with my goals.
- 3:57And yes, my standards are high. My chickens live in a very high
- 4:02standard thing. It's not the average coup.
- 4:04I've had people make comments online and say things about it.
- 4:08I've had friends say things about it like wow, you know, why
- 4:11would you do all of this? And you know, you don't have to
- 4:14do that. I love when someone says that to
- 4:16me. You don't have to do that.
- 4:18Yes, I understand I don't have to do that.
- 4:21However, it is something that I envision and I say that's how I
- 4:25want them to live. They, they're my pets.
- 4:27They are not my food. They are my pets and they are
- 4:30part of my joy. They are part of what brings me
- 4:33happiness. Sitting out here and listening
- 4:35to them every morning, recording with all of you, this is joyful
- 4:40to me. Yes, changing the coop out is
- 4:43hard work, but it brings joy caring for them.
- 4:45And I know it does because I feel it every time I do it.
- 4:50So the point I'm trying to make to you all is when you watch the
- 4:54documentary and you look at her standards and you see what she
- 4:58has accomplished and you look at it all, you might not want her
- 5:00exact life, but there are parts of it that you could admire.
- 5:04Her unwavering contribution to what has come out as choosing to
- 5:10live at a higher level within our homes, choosing to make our
- 5:13homes feel better, our food better, all of these things.
- 5:17You might not choose to have that critical eye that she has
- 5:22all the time, but it inspires us to do better.
- 5:25It inspires us to reach for the stars and that's the whole point
- 5:29of it. So I hope you enjoy it.
- 5:32I hope you watch it. Take away something good for it.
- 5:35Even if you don't like her, look for the crumb and I will see you
- 5:38all tomorrow. Bye.
