Latest / Foul Territory / Jake Cronenworth on Friar Territory
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Well, we are back on Friar Territory. We mentioned the
- 0:07Speaker 1: potteries are in Denver, Colorado. Marty mentioned it before the break.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm sort of surprised we're not seeing any Maze and Blue,
- 0:14Speaker 1: any Michigan gear. But I know he's a proud Michigan
- 0:16Speaker 1: Wolverine and it wasn't that long ago that his alma
- 0:19Speaker 1: mater won the NC double A tournament for the first
- 0:22Speaker 1: time since nineteen eighty nine. Hard to believe for me.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Seventh season for Jake Cronworth, two time All Star, kind
- 0:27Speaker 1: enough to join us on Friar Territory. Jake, it's Darren
- 0:31Speaker 1: and Marty, thank you very much for taking the time.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Hey, guys, thanks for having me on.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Appreciate you, see Jake, Well, yeah, I mean again, but lately,
- 0:39Speaker 1: congratulations on the Wolverines. I mean, your alma mater won
- 0:42Speaker 1: the national Championship. I don't know what that's like. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: went to Saint John's. I hope you also won the
- 0:46Speaker 1: NC DOUBLEA tournament.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Pool?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Was it a double for Jake Croninworth inside of the
- 0:51Speaker 1: Pottery clubhouse.
- 0:52Speaker 4: I don't know if we I don't think we had
- 0:55Speaker 4: one this year. We do like a spread pool We
- 0:57Speaker 4: do a couple other ones. We do squares some like
- 1:01Speaker 4: fun stuff. But we didn't do a bracket this year.
- 1:03Speaker 4: But I did win my family's bracket, which was nice.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Did everybody just pick Michigan and you had to win
- 1:09Speaker 1: on the margins on the outside.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Well, my wife's family is all from Georgia, so they
- 1:13Speaker 4: picked Like my brother in law went to Georgia, so
- 1:16Speaker 4: he picked Georgia.
- 1:17Speaker 2: So there were some outlier teams there.
- 1:20Speaker 1: But congratulations on that as well. Must have been really
- 1:24Speaker 1: really proud for you. Jake, talk to us a little bit.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You're in Denver, Colorado. You had an off day yesterday.
- 1:30Speaker 1: What do you guys do on it off day early
- 1:31Speaker 1: on in the season. And I would think Denver's a
- 1:33Speaker 1: really good place to sell it to enjoy an off
- 1:35Speaker 1: day if I was a baseball player.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Denver is a great city.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I think some guys went fishing, which is a pretty
- 1:43Speaker 4: far trek, I know for where they went. I think
- 1:46Speaker 4: some guys played some golf. No, I love Denver. There's
- 1:49Speaker 4: great coffee shops here. It's a great time to walk around.
- 1:53Speaker 4: The weather was great yesterday. I'm like it was on
- 1:55Speaker 4: I think last Thursday, and when it was snowing, so
- 1:59Speaker 4: we had some nice there to get outside, which was nice.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we think top three should give me your top
- 2:04Speaker 1: three cities not named San Diego where if you're spending
- 2:06Speaker 1: an off day, this is where you would like to be.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Oh, I mean my off days revolve around food a
- 2:13Speaker 4: lot and dinner. So New York obviously having an off
- 2:19Speaker 4: day in New York and getting a great dinner there
- 2:20Speaker 4: is really really fun.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Washington, d C.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Great food city. We have an off day there this year,
- 2:29Speaker 4: which is gonna be nice because there's a couple of
- 2:30Speaker 4: restaurants that I want to try. And then probably Chicago
- 2:36Speaker 4: because it's home. I'm I'm good to sit on the
- 2:39Speaker 4: couch all day.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Good stuff, man, Jake Crounerworth foody. I didn't know that
- 2:43Speaker 1: that's a whole new subject for a different show somewhere
- 2:46Speaker 1: down the road.
- 2:46Speaker 5: I like it, Jake. Before we get to this, this
- 2:48Speaker 5: this series with the Rockies and of course going to
- 2:50Speaker 5: Mexico City, I do want to ask you about the
- 2:52Speaker 5: fan reaction, the fan that the fans that traveled to Anaheim.
- 2:55Speaker 5: How noticeable was it to hear the energy from Padres
- 2:58Speaker 5: fans taking over angels to eating and during your time
- 3:01Speaker 5: with the Padres every single year, are you noticing that
- 3:04Speaker 5: you see a lot more Padres fans going on the
- 3:06Speaker 5: road and taking over some of these ballparks.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it was almost like every game almost got better
- 3:11Speaker 4: over the course of the weekend. It seemed like Sunday
- 3:15Speaker 4: was pretty awesome. Saturday night it was great, same thing
- 3:18Speaker 4: with Friday. Yeah, I have noticed you see it in
- 3:22Speaker 4: Arizona a lot when we play there. You'll see it
- 3:25Speaker 4: tonight here in Denver. People from San Diego love coming
- 3:29Speaker 4: to Denver. And or there's a ton of San Diego
- 3:31Speaker 4: Padres fans that live in Denver.
- 3:34Speaker 2: San Francisco too. You see a lot of fans in
- 3:36Speaker 2: San Francisco.
- 3:37Speaker 4: So you know, kind of in our division, the fans
- 3:39Speaker 4: travel super super well for us. And yeah, this weekend
- 3:44Speaker 4: was was pretty cool.
- 3:45Speaker 5: And this is a strange question, but how's your face?
- 3:47Speaker 5: You got? You got? You got hit in the face.
- 3:49Speaker 5: As Darre and I were discussing earlier, you have shattered
- 3:51Speaker 5: the Padres record. It was held by Chase Headley with
- 3:54Speaker 5: thirty eight for hit by pitches. You've been hit by pitches?
- 3:56Speaker 5: What sixty sixty five times?
- 4:00Speaker 4: That's an art I didn't expect the sixty fifth time
- 4:03Speaker 4: to be in the face.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Now it feels good.
- 4:07Speaker 4: It's a little stiff when I wake up in the
- 4:09Speaker 4: morning and it's still pretty sore where I got hurt,
- 4:12Speaker 4: but didn't lose any teeth, which is good.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Are you prepared to lose teeth? Would that be? Would
- 4:16Speaker 5: you would that be something like like a badge of
- 4:18Speaker 5: honor if you do? Considering your hockey background, I.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Was checking them the other night and make sure. But
- 4:24Speaker 2: there is one that I could have lost that I
- 4:27Speaker 2: kind of wish I did.
- 4:30Speaker 5: All right, Your manager, Craig Damman said that you know
- 4:33Speaker 5: a lot of the hitters are looking forward to this
- 4:35Speaker 5: road trip because of playing at altitude, cors Field and
- 4:38Speaker 5: Mexico City. How much do you know the pictures don't
- 4:41Speaker 5: but how much do you personally like the opportunity to
- 4:44Speaker 5: play at cours Field and in Mexico City.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I like playing at Corsfield because you know, Darren, I
- 4:51Speaker 4: don't know if you have you been to kors yet before.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I'm sure you have a few times. I mean, it's it's.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Such a great stadium. There's always fans at the stadium.
- 5:02Speaker 4: The atmosphere is awesome. It seems like We're always here
- 5:05Speaker 4: at a great time of year when the weather's nice two.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I truly enjoy just playing here. I don't think the
- 5:12Speaker 4: altitude has anything to do with it. Maybe a little
- 5:14Speaker 4: bit a little more extra confidence to just hit the
- 5:17Speaker 4: ball in the air, but no, I think this is
- 5:20Speaker 4: a great opportunity for the group to kind of get
- 5:23Speaker 4: everybody rolling when we get home.
- 5:26Speaker 3: There are more than seventy thousand events listed on the
- 5:31Speaker 3: sea Geek app, So if you're looking to do basically

- 5:46Speaker 6: gonna be looking for seek.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I can't wait to see Aj getting the best tickets
- 5:51Speaker 3: he can for concerts and festivals. We'll get plenty of
- 5:54Speaker 3: pictures there. But also when he's looking, what he does
- 5:57Speaker 3: is he looks for when he's going to say an
- 5:58Speaker 3: arena for a concert, green dot, meaning he's got a
- 6:01Speaker 3: good deal in a good spot. That's where sea Geek

- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's it's a beautiful ballpark. I'm with
- 6:31Speaker 1: you as well, the energy there. Unfortunately, I was there
- 6:34Speaker 1: for one of the lower moments in club history that
- 6:37Speaker 1: game one sixty three back in two thousand and seven.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But what a memorable night that was. I agree with
- 6:42Speaker 1: everything you said. I know people that have left San
- 6:44Speaker 1: Diego that live in Denver that are going to be
- 6:45Speaker 1: there tonight. We're big Jay Croninworth fans.
- 6:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Marty mentioned you know Craig Stammon, And we've had Joe
- 6:51Speaker 1: Muskrove on the show Jake, and we asked him since
- 6:54Speaker 1: you guys are former teammates with Craig Stammon. We asked Joe,
- 6:57Speaker 1: since now you have a former teammate who has become
- 7:00Speaker 1: a big league manager, your big league manager. Who do
- 7:03Speaker 1: you think could be next? When you look around the clubhouse?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Who do you think?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Joe Muskrove said he could see being a major league
- 7:08Speaker 1: manager someday somewhere down the road when he's playing days
- 7:10Speaker 1: are over.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Ooh, I don't know.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with Jake Cronenworth.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I appreciate Joe putting my name in there.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, have you ever considered it?
- 7:35Speaker 1: I mean, you're in the middle of your career, so
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm not trying to shift it off the pastor here,
- 7:38Speaker 1: please understand, But I just I was like, hey, we've
- 7:41Speaker 1: got to ask since Muscrow thought, you know, somewhere down
- 7:43Speaker 1: the road, this could be a situation you go for.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I don't want to. I mean, I don't want to
- 7:47Speaker 2: think about that right now. At this point in my
- 7:49Speaker 2: career has got quite a bit of time left.
- 7:51Speaker 4: And but no, I mean I think the way that
- 7:55Speaker 4: I view the game and kind of how the game's
- 7:58Speaker 4: going and things that I look at and how I prepare.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of things kind of like
- 8:02Speaker 4: how a manager does not to say it's something that
- 8:06Speaker 4: I would want to do in the future. You're never
- 8:08Speaker 4: gonna I'll cross that bridge when.
- 8:10Speaker 2: We get there.
- 8:10Speaker 4: But now, I've always I've always enjoyed the ins and
- 8:14Speaker 4: outs of the game and like being super dialed into
- 8:18Speaker 4: pitching changes and who's coming to the.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Point and what inning we're in, and who we're going
- 8:22Speaker 2: to get and what we're going to face. And I
- 8:24Speaker 2: think it's just kind of how I'm wired.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Okay, do you think you meant it as a compliment?
- 8:29Speaker 1: Just to be clear, I don't think he's like I'd
- 8:31Speaker 1: like to that guy.
- 8:34Speaker 5: Are you more likely to end up post playing time
- 8:37Speaker 5: manager or member of the sports media?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Probably manager? M hmmm, I think so manager.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, all right, only room for.
- 8:52Speaker 2: A good future in sports media.
- 8:54Speaker 5: I think you could do it. And a lot of
- 8:56Speaker 5: times the people that I least expect to end up
- 8:59Speaker 5: in this sports media are the ones that kind of
- 9:01Speaker 5: that do like The people that are the most chatty
- 9:04Speaker 5: and the most outgoing aren't usually the ones. It's it's
- 9:06Speaker 5: usually the ones that are not lurkers, quieter, more well
- 9:09Speaker 5: thought out that end up in the media. The last
- 9:12Speaker 5: guy I expected in sports media was Yonder a Lonso
- 9:15Speaker 5: because he didn't like talking to West when he was
- 9:17Speaker 5: in the Padres clubhouse, and so now I was like,
- 9:19Speaker 5: how miss trop going and just just very very different.
- 9:22Speaker 5: So I, you know, be surprised, that's all. I think
- 9:25Speaker 5: you'd be good. I think you should give a shot media.
- 9:28Speaker 5: So Okay, by the way, I am so glad you
- 9:30Speaker 5: brought you brought up your wife. I wasn't sure to
- 9:32Speaker 5: bring it up. But you got married last year. Your wife, Brooke,
- 9:35Speaker 5: she is in baseball baseball background her dad Scott Fletcher.
- 9:39Speaker 5: You're married to the sideline reporter for the Chicago White Sox.
- 9:42Speaker 5: How do you guys manage this? And how much are
- 9:45Speaker 5: you looking forward to the next homestand when the White
- 9:47Speaker 5: Sox come to play the Padres.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we've shoot, we've been doing this ever since we
- 9:54Speaker 4: started dating, and it's kind of just become the thing.
- 9:56Speaker 4: And we do about as good of a job as
- 9:59Speaker 4: we can with our schedules and seeing each other pretty
- 10:02Speaker 4: much every every two weeks, so twice about twice a month.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Which is which is perfect.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Now she's she's the rock star, and but yeah, they're
- 10:11Speaker 4: coming next homestand so uh her she's calling the series
- 10:16Speaker 4: and then so is her sister's husband.
- 10:18Speaker 2: So wow, which will be fun.
- 10:22Speaker 1: That yeah, man, good for you as well, Jake. I
- 10:24Speaker 1: want to ask you a little bit. You know, you
- 10:26Speaker 1: talk about how you paid so much attention to the game,
- 10:28Speaker 1: the ins and outs of the game. I do want
- 10:31Speaker 1: to ask you about something that's new this year, and
- 10:32Speaker 1: that is the ABS system. And I'm going to assume
- 10:35Speaker 1: that these numbers that are on Baseball Savant are accurate
- 10:38Speaker 1: that the Potters have done a pretty good job seventh
- 10:41Speaker 1: most successful team in Major League Baseball at challenging calls. You,
- 10:46Speaker 1: I believe, are one for two and Xander's killing it.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Xander's four out of five. Just talking about the hitters
- 10:52Speaker 1: here campus outa behind the play pretty good. Freddie's pretty
- 10:55Speaker 1: good as well. What is that process?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Like?
- 10:58Speaker 1: I I mean, I always wonder if the hit or too,
- 11:00Speaker 1: if you're challenging, if you're going to go to the
- 11:02Speaker 1: helmet here are you like, hey man, sorry, like kind
- 11:05Speaker 1: of got to do it just you know, I thought
- 11:07Speaker 1: it was like, what what is the exchange like when
- 11:09Speaker 1: you you know, you tap the helmet and you know
- 11:11Speaker 1: you got to stand there for thirty seconds with the
- 11:13Speaker 1: umpire and who's been right one time? And you know
- 11:16Speaker 1: you've been right another time as well. What's that dynamic
- 11:18Speaker 1: like down there?
- 11:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of it is
- 11:22Speaker 4: just sometimes it's obviously, I think a lot of these
- 11:25Speaker 4: situations you're getting yourself into is like heat of the
- 11:28Speaker 4: moment at bats.
- 11:29Speaker 2: You know, a lot of.
- 11:30Speaker 4: The challenges I think you're seeing are you know, two
- 11:34Speaker 4: two strikeouts that turn into three two or three two
- 11:38Speaker 4: walks that the catcher challenges, or vice versus three two
- 11:41Speaker 4: strikeout that the hitter challenges to get a walk.
- 11:45Speaker 3: You know.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Obviously our catchers have done a great job with that,
- 11:49Speaker 4: especially later in the game with our bullpen coming in.
- 11:52Speaker 4: But yeah, it is interesting sometimes. I think sometimes the umpires,
- 11:56Speaker 4: you'll see them like they kind of know they missed it.
- 12:00Speaker 2: But a lot of them, a lot of these newer.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Guys have come up with the abs and triple A,
- 12:05Speaker 4: so there it's almost just kind of second nature for them.
- 12:08Speaker 2: It's kind of how they've been last years.
- 12:10Speaker 4: And obviously there's only you know, I think five or
- 12:13Speaker 4: ten guys that have are kind of up and down
- 12:15Speaker 4: in the big leagues every year. Well, you see it
- 12:18Speaker 4: with them, and I think you see it with a
- 12:20Speaker 4: lot of these younger umpires, like they're really comfortable doing it.
- 12:22Speaker 4: I think, you know, some of the older guys are
- 12:24Speaker 4: getting used to it, but just having that conversation with
- 12:27Speaker 4: them in the field, even if they're going to be
- 12:28Speaker 4: the umpire the third game of the series, and just
- 12:30Speaker 4: talking to them and how they feel about it.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Do you do you have unilateral authority?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Though?
- 12:35Speaker 1: I mean, are guys, especially on the hitting side, do
- 12:38Speaker 1: you guys just you know, it's up to you? Like,
- 12:40Speaker 1: you know, obviously, if you run out of them early
- 12:42Speaker 1: in the game, what are you gonna do? But but
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know, does Craig Stamond say like, hey, dude, it's
- 12:46Speaker 1: up to you man, Like, if you really feel strongly
- 12:48Speaker 1: about it, go for it in the fourth inning? Or
- 12:50Speaker 1: you know, is it something you know game by game
- 12:53Speaker 1: where you're maybe looking at the umpire and trying to
- 12:55Speaker 1: figure out, well, what's this all about and what's he
- 12:57Speaker 1: all about? Et cetera, Like how does it work? Just
- 12:59Speaker 1: in terms of of the decision making behind it.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I think a lot of it is is situational dependent.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I think the big thing, you know, you let's say,
- 13:07Speaker 4: let's say it is the fourth inning and it's it's
- 13:09Speaker 4: two outs with the bases loaded, and you know, we're
- 13:12Speaker 4: facing a super tough guy in the mound and we
- 13:16Speaker 4: got a chance to score here, and it's a it's
- 13:19Speaker 4: a close call. I think Craig would one hundred percent
- 13:22Speaker 4: be fine with you challenging that because that could be
- 13:24Speaker 4: the difference in the game in the fourth inning.
- 13:26Speaker 2: You never know.
- 13:29Speaker 4: But I think a lot of it is just high,
- 13:31Speaker 4: high leverage situations because you're going to have them in
- 13:34Speaker 4: the first, you're gonna have them in the ninth, and
- 13:36Speaker 4: obviously if we're winning, we kind of want to have
- 13:38Speaker 4: the catchers have the ability to use them maybe a
- 13:40Speaker 4: little bit more, and vice versa.
- 13:41Speaker 2: For losing, what the hitters maybe use them a little
- 13:43Speaker 2: bit more.
- 13:45Speaker 3: People, life is expensive, so you should start looking at
- 13:48Speaker 3: things that are unnecessarily expensive, like your phone bill, and say,
- 13:53Speaker 3: is there a better option?
- 13:55Speaker 6: Men Mobile is a better option than if you have
- 13:56Speaker 6: other companies, especially when you have kids like me and

- 14:06Speaker 3: Yes, and some wireless bills are crazy with the bogus

- 14:47Speaker 1: Can you just real quick, Marty, I'm sorry one more time.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Do you you've.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Got a new strike zone?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:52Speaker 1: I mean they did adjust everybody's strike zones. Are you
- 14:55Speaker 1: used to your new strike zone? I mean, is it
- 14:57Speaker 1: similar to what it's always been or is it an adjustment?
- 15:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's it's different because you know, the one
- 15:04Speaker 4: pitch I did challenge in Pittsburgh, it seemed super low
- 15:06Speaker 4: to me and I ended up losing the challenge.
- 15:10Speaker 2: But yeah, it's it's it's interesting.
- 15:12Speaker 4: I don't think I've had too many pitches that have
- 15:15Speaker 4: been that one inch above the zone or one inch
- 15:18Speaker 4: lower than the zone where last year would have been
- 15:21Speaker 4: a strike depending on who the umpire is, and now
- 15:23Speaker 4: it's depending on my height. So it's interesting because you
- 15:27Speaker 4: can kind of feel if it's the east and west
- 15:30Speaker 4: of right, but north and south with it being shrunk
- 15:34Speaker 4: a little bit, you still don't really know where the
- 15:39Speaker 4: bottom or the top is. It's relatively the same, but
- 15:44Speaker 4: still that one inch is it's a pretty big deal.
- 15:46Speaker 2: As you've seen, the millimeters have come up on the
- 15:49Speaker 2: on the board. Crazy do you.
- 15:52Speaker 5: Ever feel bad for the umps? It's just minuscule as
- 15:55Speaker 5: to what the difference in a strike, And it's as hard.
- 15:59Speaker 4: As the game is for the players, like you know,
- 16:03Speaker 4: for those guys behind the plate reacting to one hundred
- 16:06Speaker 4: and ninety seven two seam fastballs and sweepers and this
- 16:09Speaker 4: and that and trying to now figure out, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 4: the height of the player and.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Where his zone is. And I mean, I've always had.
- 16:19Speaker 4: A lot of respect for empires and how how good
- 16:21Speaker 4: a job they do do, because it is a really
- 16:24Speaker 4: hard job back there.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Jake, you're one of a handful of current Padres players
- 16:28Speaker 5: that that has history with Craig Stammon as a player.
- 16:31Speaker 5: What's he been like as a manager, and is he
- 16:34Speaker 5: always as good natured and as even killed as he
- 16:38Speaker 5: seems to us? Because this guy, it doesn't matter if
- 16:41Speaker 5: it's after, you know, a lopsided loss or a great win. Hey, guys,
- 16:44Speaker 5: what's up, same exact personality. It seems like nothing really
- 16:48Speaker 5: gets to him. What's it like, you know, playing for him?
- 16:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think that was when I talked
- 16:55Speaker 4: to him in the offseason and he had brought the
- 16:58Speaker 4: idea up of him doing it, Like I had no
- 17:01Speaker 4: doubt that he was going to be the same person
- 17:05Speaker 4: as he had been when he was a player, as
- 17:07Speaker 4: he is a father, like as he is now as
- 17:09Speaker 4: the manager. Like it's the same guy. Which I think
- 17:14Speaker 4: is the best part about playing for Craig is like
- 17:17Speaker 4: the confidence he instills in the group, and you know
- 17:20Speaker 4: what he means to the guys that had played with him,
- 17:22Speaker 4: and the respect we have for him. I think, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 4: the job he's done has been amazing.
- 17:29Speaker 1: How shocking was it in Anaheim to see Mason Miller
- 17:32Speaker 1: give up a hit?
- 17:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that was the best at bad I
- 17:38Speaker 4: Moncatta put on the best at bat I had seen
- 17:40Speaker 4: off him in a while. It seemed like he was
- 17:44Speaker 4: all over everything. I don't know, what do you if
- 17:46Speaker 4: he was just praying that he got a fastball somehow.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Over the middle of the playton.
- 17:50Speaker 4: But yeah, no, I mean Mason's been outstanding, man. I
- 17:54Speaker 4: think he just I mean you kind of felt it
- 17:57Speaker 4: last year when we got him. It was like, you know,
- 18:00Speaker 4: he's in a place that you know, you got forty
- 18:02Speaker 4: thousand people going crazy for him when he comes in
- 18:04Speaker 4: the game. And now I think he's just taken off
- 18:07Speaker 4: with it and that obviously the stuff speaks for itself.
- 18:11Speaker 1: It's incredible. Can you describe the energy that a player
- 18:14Speaker 1: feels on the field at home when we get Corn go.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I don't know if you're a Corn guy at all,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I don't you know, probably before your time, but can
- 18:22Speaker 1: you explain just the energy that is in that moment
- 18:26Speaker 1: now with his introduction?
- 18:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great.
- 18:29Speaker 4: I mean I think, you know, our production team does
- 18:31Speaker 4: such a good job with all that stuff, and you know,
- 18:33Speaker 4: especially for you know, not only do you have to
- 18:36Speaker 4: face Mason Miller throwing one hundred and three miles an
- 18:39Speaker 4: hour in the ninth inning, but now you have to
- 18:42Speaker 4: listen to him come out to Corn with all the
- 18:44Speaker 4: lights off and the grim Reaper on the scoreboard. It's
- 18:48Speaker 4: probably not the most comfortable feeling going up there, and
- 18:51Speaker 4: it's already extremely uncomfortable situation.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Jake, I have I have two final questions for you.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Number one, which when you talk to your friends and family,
- 19:00Speaker 5: do you ask them to call you the crone Zone
- 19:02Speaker 5: or or Jake the Rake? What do you prefer to
- 19:03Speaker 5: go by.
- 19:06Speaker 2: My friends and family, I'll call me Jake or Jacob Jacob,
- 19:09Speaker 2: Jake or Jacob call me Jacob.
- 19:12Speaker 5: So and when you get to when when you get
- 19:15Speaker 5: to Mexico City, what's the food item that you were
- 19:17Speaker 5: most looking forward to? Listen, we live in San Diego.
- 19:19Speaker 5: We had great access to phenomenal cuisine, great talk with burritos.
- 19:22Speaker 5: What's the go to for Jake Cornnworth when you get
- 19:24Speaker 5: to Mexico City.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Ooh, that's a great question. I mean Mexico City obviously
- 19:31Speaker 4: incredible food city. I don't know that I know by
- 19:36Speaker 4: kind of by what maybe where we're standing in our
- 19:37Speaker 4: some pretty good restaurants.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I went to a cafe there the last time and
- 19:42Speaker 4: had some like really really good Mexican pastries in the morning.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I might go there again.
- 19:47Speaker 5: I tried. I tried grilled cactus last time. That was
- 19:50Speaker 5: that was something. It wasn't bad. It's pretty common, actually.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Jake, you want to go to a good restaurant. I
- 19:56Speaker 1: was there about a month ago. There's a show I'll
- 19:59Speaker 1: recommend because it sounds like you're into foody culture and restaurant.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a show.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Called Knife Edge, all about chasing missile Michelin stars. Yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 1: they did a feature on that show. I think it's
- 20:09Speaker 1: on Apple TV on a restaurant in Mexico City.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Do we get paid for this?
- 20:13Speaker 1: Called Maximo?
- 20:14Speaker 2: And I went there.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I was there about a month ago. Lived up to
- 20:17Speaker 1: the hype of the show. So if you're looking for
- 20:18Speaker 1: a place to go, hang out, sit down, experience a
- 20:22Speaker 1: little bit of the growing food culture in Mexico City.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I would give it nine and a half out of ten.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I just wish I had more time to go. But
- 20:29Speaker 1: if you guys have an off day and you want
- 20:30Speaker 1: to get together as a group, I think you would
- 20:33Speaker 1: enjoy it. So there's a lot of good food seeing
- 20:35Speaker 1: down there, and I'm sure you guys will find your
- 20:36Speaker 1: way without my help, but we do appreciate a Hans. Yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 1: I mean it was great, watch the show, nothing else.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Watch the show because I think you really enjoyed the show,
- 20:44Speaker 1: just about like the chaos that goes out in these kitchens.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Thank you for doing this. We appreciate it.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Good luck to you on the road this week in
- 20:50Speaker 1: Colorado and at Mexico City, and we'll see what you
- 20:52Speaker 1: guys get back.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Awesome. Thanks guys, appreciate you.
