- 0:05Speaker 1: Just like everyone predicted. I mean, mid to late January
- 0:09Speaker 1: is really the best time in baseball, right You've got
- 0:13Speaker 1: a trade or a big signing almost every day, and
- 0:17Speaker 1: then we have the BBWAA Awards coming up this weekend.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's tomorrow Saturday, it's Judge Otani, Skien Schooble and many
- 0:25Speaker 1: more VIPs, special guest presenters, the whole deal, top father.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Baseball is able to dominate on a week like this
- 0:35Speaker 1: where they essentially have no business dominating. There are other
- 0:41Speaker 1: sports cranking with regular seasons. And then, of course the
- 0:43Speaker 1: NFL is deep in it. College football just finished up
- 0:46Speaker 1: their whole John. But baseball's getting a lot of headlines right.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Now, and deservingly so. I mean, listen, even though it's
- 0:54Speaker 2: the off season, at the end of the day, for
- 0:56Speaker 2: me personally, like this is how it should be. Free
- 0:59Speaker 2: agent signings, trades, Uh, you know, you got five prospects
- 1:04Speaker 2: going to a team for one guy, like this is
- 1:06Speaker 2: this is it? Like fans are like, oh man, like
- 1:09Speaker 2: who are these prospects of fans Like, oh man, this
- 1:11Speaker 2: guy we got. We hope he's a real deal. This
- 1:14Speaker 2: is what should be the talk of the town. And
- 1:16Speaker 2: guy's making lots of money, teams, brand new teams, having
- 1:20Speaker 2: a couple of different guys on the team. Are they
- 1:22Speaker 2: going to get back in the playoffs? Like it's our
- 1:25Speaker 2: year now, watch we got this guy so and so. So.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's what makes it exciting. And if you're a fan
- 1:31Speaker 2: of a team and they're working to make their team
- 1:33Speaker 2: better during the year, like listen, you can't get mad
- 1:36Speaker 2: at all when if they struggle. Yeah, I get it,
- 1:38Speaker 2: you're upset, but you can't get mad at the brass
- 1:39Speaker 2: because they're working their butts off to try and get
- 1:41Speaker 2: it few and far between. But the team you're rooting for,
- 1:45Speaker 2: if they're doing that, very exciting. Let's go.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We're trying to grab some brass this weekend, So let's
- 1:50Speaker 1: show you what we're working with here. Krats will be
- 1:53Speaker 1: suited up. Sozinsky Kenny Rosenthal the game's finest under one roof.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I'm reading you the screen right now after you're listening
- 2:04Speaker 1: on the podcast platform. It's the one to define music
- 2:09Speaker 1: to that we need music.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I get it. I know you're the voiceover and like
- 2:15Speaker 3: I'm I'm I'm mad for I'm sad for the podcast
- 2:19Speaker 3: crowd because you don't get to see like this hype
- 2:21Speaker 3: video of just the best players in the game, like
- 2:24Speaker 3: it's the four best players plus the rookies, plus like
- 2:29Speaker 3: their best moments. Olivia crushed it making this and I
- 2:34Speaker 3: need I need a little What would you put? What?
- 2:37Speaker 3: What kind of what kind of background music would you be?
- 2:40Speaker 3: Would you would hard rock Frank Sinatra? Because it's New York?
- 2:45Speaker 2: You could about like whoa black Betty? Damn the lamba
- 2:48Speaker 2: lamb being thing?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Weren't that that would be except we would have the words.
- 2:55Speaker 1: We're gonna get copyrighted? Now?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, what Todd because that sounded exactly like it, Betty.
- 3:02Speaker 3: It's okay, we can say black Betty.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I'm just about Benny black Benny.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, he said Benny.
- 3:11Speaker 1: What about the jay Z New York song? Or we
- 3:15Speaker 1: are the champions for a classic from Queen something that resembles.
- 3:19Speaker 3: The New York right now, we're maybe Queen's Queens. Yeah,
- 3:24Speaker 3: we have the Queens.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, you can't go wrong with anybody there, especially
- 3:31Speaker 2: where if they're from the city, for sure.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So subscribe to the channel if you don't already like
- 3:38Speaker 1: the show, and please do that tomorrow for which should
- 3:41Speaker 1: be a really really cool scene in person and then
- 3:45Speaker 1: on the live stream as well, we'll be chatting. We'll
- 3:47Speaker 1: be working hard tomorrow for the award show Saturday night.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Let's charge. Right after the show, the Texas Rangers say,
- 3:58Speaker 1: you know what we're going to add to our starting rotation,
- 4:02Speaker 1: McKenzie Gore, come on down five prospects, and we will
- 4:06Speaker 1: inform you about what these prospects bring to the table,
- 4:09Speaker 1: at least right now in terms of their tools. We're
- 4:11Speaker 1: going to get you a little clip from JJ Cooper
- 4:14Speaker 1: very soon from Baseball America, but let's start with Gore.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Krats Rangers adding to a strength pitching has not been
- 4:22Speaker 1: the problem really for several years now, and they continue
- 4:26Speaker 1: to build on what makes sense given that there front
- 4:30Speaker 1: office leader Chris Young was a former pitcher, won a
- 4:33Speaker 1: World Series early on in his tenure running that front office,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and he keeps doubling down by adding someone who has
- 4:39Speaker 1: as much talent as any pitcher probably in baseball. Can
- 4:42Speaker 1: he put it together for a full season? Also, he
- 4:44Speaker 1: will not have to shoulder a load of being that guy.
- 4:46Speaker 1: All Right, it's Mackenzie Gore win day. Nationals are on
- 4:49Speaker 1: a four game skid. Now we need McKenzie Gore to
- 4:51Speaker 1: come in. No, the Rangers have plenty of other helpers Ebaldi,
- 4:55Speaker 1: de gram, Lighter and many more. So he'll slide in
- 4:58Speaker 1: nicely in a mid rotation spot, right he will.
- 5:01Speaker 3: And I think there's a lot of people, especially with pitching,
- 5:04Speaker 3: people are like, oh, he's you know, the potential that
- 5:07Speaker 3: this guy can show. You know, he just got to hit.
- 5:10Speaker 3: He did it the first half of the year. First
- 5:12Speaker 3: half of the year, he was going to end the
- 5:13Speaker 3: season as a top three cy young canon in the
- 5:16Speaker 3: National League. He was striking guys out at a major clip.
- 5:20Speaker 3: He was he was putting his team. He was going
- 5:23Speaker 3: deep into games for a team that just didn't have that.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I don't think shouldering the load is as big of
- 5:30Speaker 3: a deal for pitchers as it is for position players
- 5:33Speaker 3: that are like a hitter, the only hitter in a lineup,
- 5:36Speaker 3: that's the only guy carrying the lineup. Pitchers are really
- 5:40Speaker 3: they're very isolated. They play once every five days. Starting
- 5:43Speaker 3: pitchers they play once every five days, And to me,
- 5:47Speaker 3: I think his numbers will translate over. I'm a kind
- 5:51Speaker 3: of upset that mad Dog Mike Maddox isn't there anymore
- 5:54Speaker 3: to help out with the pitchers. But I'm sure who
- 5:57Speaker 3: they got is going to do completely fine. He's going
- 5:59Speaker 3: to be around you. Forget that. Mackenzie Gore is actually
- 6:02Speaker 3: still decently young, and in this rotation, he's definitely gonna
- 6:06Speaker 3: be young. He's gonna learn from ex superstar prospects in
- 6:10Speaker 3: de gram turned Cy Young Award winner eu Valdi has
- 6:13Speaker 3: gone through every stage of pitching changes that he's needed
- 6:18Speaker 3: to since he came up with the Marlins one hundred
- 6:21Speaker 3: years ago, and he still has his velocity. To me,
- 6:25Speaker 3: Mackenzie Gore took the next step that he needed to
- 6:28Speaker 3: in his career last season in the first half. What
- 6:31Speaker 3: happened in the second half, I don't know. I think
- 6:34Speaker 3: there's some defensive issues that the Nats had that I
- 6:37Speaker 3: think will be helped by what the Rangers do. I
- 6:40Speaker 3: think just the ballpark in general is gonna help Mackenzie Gore.
- 6:44Speaker 3: The one thing that he needs to take care of
- 6:47Speaker 3: is that whip. His whip to be a number one
- 6:51Speaker 3: type of pitcher, not number one in the staff, but
- 6:53Speaker 3: a number one type of pitcher, or even go from
- 6:55Speaker 3: like a three or a four to a two. He's
- 6:58Speaker 3: just got to make He's got to make teams put
- 7:00Speaker 3: the ball in play and not get such deep counts,
- 7:03Speaker 3: not walk so many guys trying to chase those strikeouts
- 7:06Speaker 3: because the strikeouts are there, and when the strikeouts are
- 7:08Speaker 3: there in a ballpark that is favorable to pitchers. To me,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I think he could have an unbelievable season because he's
- 7:14Speaker 3: not the opening day starter. He's not going to face
- 7:17Speaker 3: the number one and number two of other teams. He
- 7:19Speaker 3: might face the three or four that other teams are
- 7:22Speaker 3: bringing it up there, So I think that will just
- 7:24Speaker 3: automatically elevate his numbers.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Also, I was going to bring that point up the park.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I mean, you're you know you're pitching. You know, I
- 7:32Speaker 2: guess close whatever. It is a good amount of games
- 7:35Speaker 2: at that stadium. Some pop flies when we at the
- 7:38Speaker 2: track and be like, oh okay, all right, you can
- 7:39Speaker 2: take some more chances. He's a lefty to as well,
- 7:42Speaker 2: crafty throw as well. You know, you see this on
- 7:46Speaker 2: what the Rangers did to one year and then they
- 7:48Speaker 2: were getting guys and all of a sudden they made
- 7:50Speaker 2: that big run. So I'm excited for this. I've always
- 7:54Speaker 2: told Kratzer, I've always told you, Scott propessor prospects for
- 7:57Speaker 2: a reason. You want guys that have been there before
- 7:59Speaker 2: that I've done it. I'm not saying all five of
- 8:01Speaker 2: these guys can't be dominant players in the big leagues.
- 8:04Speaker 2: But guess what if you and far between us they
- 8:06Speaker 2: come up if this is a win for the Rangers
- 8:09Speaker 2: in my opinion, well.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Let's get more on those prospects, shall we, I mean
- 8:14Speaker 1: five prospects. Usually when I see that, I'm actually turned
- 8:17Speaker 1: off guys. Why because I'd rather get the one or
- 8:20Speaker 1: two gems that I really want. That's me. It's not
- 8:23Speaker 1: always the case. You might find your gym and get more.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But let's see what JJ Cooper from Baseball America has
- 8:28Speaker 1: to say.
- 8:37Speaker 2: One seck.
- 8:38Speaker 3: JJ's holding back. Come on, JJ, give us the info.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Don't be We'll get it.
- 8:42Speaker 1: We'll get it one sec. But anyway, and we're going
- 8:45Speaker 1: to talk to Ken coming up in a moment two
- 8:47Speaker 1: about this. There's one name that I knew pretty well
- 8:51Speaker 1: in Gavin Fien, who might end up being a first
- 8:56Speaker 1: baseman long term right now pegged I mean I think
- 8:59Speaker 1: drafted is ap, but more pegged as a third baseman. Kratz. Hey,
- 9:05Speaker 1: we went over this the other day with the Mets
- 9:07Speaker 1: return or the Mets trade package to the Brewers and
- 9:12Speaker 1: with Milwaukee. You read some scouting reports and they're like
- 9:14Speaker 1: Jet Williams could be a multi positional up the middle star,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and you read others that say he's going to be
- 9:21Speaker 1: an end of the bench utility player. You read some
- 9:24Speaker 1: that say Brandon's sproat's going to be a two or three.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You read others that say four or five or a reliever.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So that's the whole point here. If it was more
- 9:32Speaker 1: of a sure thing, you know, these guys are further away,
- 9:36Speaker 1: right You've got a guy who's just going through the
- 9:37Speaker 1: Tommy John situation. You've got another guy at the top,
- 9:40Speaker 1: one who was drafted out of high school and fiend
- 9:42Speaker 1: or fine, however, we're gonna say it. I don't know yet.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I don't know the guy yet. But this is someone
- 9:47Speaker 1: who's going to take a while to marinate. And for
- 9:50Speaker 1: the Nats, they're not competing this year, they're not competing
- 9:53Speaker 1: next year. They're going through a re rebuild right now.
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's painful for Nats fans to lose Mackenzie Gore, but
- 9:59Speaker 1: he wasn't going to be part of the next great
- 10:00Speaker 1: Knats team anyway.
- 10:02Speaker 3: And I think and I think this is the round.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Every team needs to do a different route. I think
- 10:06Speaker 3: the Nats the fact that Paul to Bony is taking
- 10:09Speaker 3: over an organization that means he's taking over whatever was
- 10:13Speaker 3: there in player development before. And quite frankly, they did
- 10:19Speaker 3: not develop a lot of players. They drafted dudes. They
- 10:22Speaker 3: drafted a lot of top five picks. They had Juan Soto,
- 10:25Speaker 3: they had all these top five picks or upper first
- 10:30Speaker 3: round type of like kind of can't miss prospects, and
- 10:33Speaker 3: then it was wow, fall off the table. They didn't
- 10:36Speaker 3: develop a lot of guys in their minor league system. Hey,
- 10:39Speaker 3: they were pushing to they were pushing from twenty twelve,
- 10:43Speaker 3: twenty twelve till twenty nineteen to win a World Series,
- 10:46Speaker 3: but at some point there they have to like develop
- 10:49Speaker 3: a little bit more. So they're behind. So for Paul
- 10:51Speaker 3: to Boni, he wants to get as many guys in
- 10:53Speaker 3: as possible and hopefully if he's willing to make those
- 10:58Speaker 3: changes in the minor leagues that he feels like you
- 10:59Speaker 3: need to make those changes. He saw it happen in
- 11:02Speaker 3: the Red Sox organization. He saw the Red Sox go
- 11:05Speaker 3: from not producing much to the hind bloom era where
- 11:09Speaker 3: they produced a lot of dudes, made the playoffs even
- 11:11Speaker 3: one year during that time. And now the Red Sox
- 11:14Speaker 3: are you know they have that they're paying dividends on that.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Hopefully Paul Taboney can build the same thing, and he
- 11:22Speaker 3: needs a lot of guys to do that, because I
- 11:24Speaker 3: think they're farm systems. Bear and Rangers fans do not
- 11:28Speaker 3: think this is the mark to share a trade where
- 11:31Speaker 3: you guys picked up Elvis Andrews, where you guys picked
- 11:34Speaker 3: up like five impact big league bats or five impact
- 11:39Speaker 3: big league players. That doesn't happen like we're gone in
- 11:42Speaker 3: those days when you see five guys what Scott was
- 11:44Speaker 3: alluding to. When you see five guys, you're saying, these
- 11:48Speaker 3: are all long shots. These are all when you see
- 11:51Speaker 3: a shortstop, a drafted shortstop that possibly could move to
- 11:55Speaker 3: first base, you're not getting the top tier sh players currently.
- 12:02Speaker 3: But as the system for Nats fans, you have to
- 12:05Speaker 3: be like, we got to develop these guys and make
- 12:07Speaker 3: them the best for our organization and Rangers fans, you
- 12:10Speaker 3: got what you need because Corey Seeger's time is running out.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Everybody's time is running out.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Exactly right. You got to take advantage of what you
- 12:17Speaker 1: have with this window and a really good starting rotation.
- 12:20Speaker 1: If you make the postseason, that could make another run
- 12:22Speaker 1: in a very competitive division right now with the Mariners
- 12:25Speaker 1: and the Astros, among others. So let's get the return
- 12:28Speaker 1: package here. The breakdown from JJ.
- 12:31Speaker 4: So what did the Nationals get back for Beckenzie Gore?
- 12:35Speaker 4: A lot of possibilities, but no kind of top one
- 12:37Speaker 4: hundred sure fire anchor prospect to this deal. Five players
- 12:41Speaker 4: getting back, there's a lot of possibilities here. The key
- 12:44Speaker 4: player in the deal is Gavin Feen. We know that
- 12:46Speaker 4: the Red Sox really liked him in the draft. Paul
- 12:48Speaker 4: Tablonney was running the Red Sox draft at that time.
- 12:51Speaker 4: He's now the Nationals head of baseball operations. And they
- 12:55Speaker 4: get Gavin Feen. He's a good bat and infielder, although
- 12:58Speaker 4: probably not a short stuff in the long term, could
- 13:00Speaker 4: be a top under prospect as players graduate off the list.
- 13:02Speaker 4: So he's the cornerstones to this deal. I would say
- 13:05Speaker 4: beyond that year, there's a lot of potential here, but
- 13:08Speaker 4: also far away or lower ceiling. Abby Ortiz is the
- 13:12Speaker 4: lower ceiling guy. He's actually probably the fifth player in
- 13:14Speaker 4: the deal. First Basemin with power, but kind of questions
- 13:17Speaker 4: about it. It's going to be enough of a bat
- 13:19Speaker 4: to be a first base only profile, probably a second
- 13:22Speaker 4: division regular at best. Devin Fitzgerald, who they got was
- 13:25Speaker 4: a fifth rounder last year in the draft, is a
- 13:27Speaker 4: very polished player who had a great acl infielder, but
- 13:31Speaker 4: the question is is that he going to have the
- 13:32Speaker 4: ceiling as a regular, could be more utility player. Jermy Cabrera,
- 13:35Speaker 4: the outfielder they got, is a really good center fielder.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Now let's see if he can hit enough to be
- 13:39Speaker 4: a regular. And then the kind of the wild card
- 13:42Speaker 4: in this deal is Alejandro Rosario, who had a breakout
- 13:45Speaker 4: season in twenty twenty four, missed all of twenty five
- 13:48Speaker 4: and will likely miss all of twenty six. He's had
- 13:50Speaker 4: a variety of medical issues and is expected to miss
- 13:55Speaker 4: the season with Tommy John surgery. So we are looking
- 13:58Speaker 4: at a twenty twenty seven return and we'll see how
- 14:00Speaker 4: well he bounces back after that. But he was looking
- 14:05Speaker 4: like a potential impactful arm before that. A lot of
- 14:08Speaker 4: possibilities here for the Nationals, But if you're thinking that
- 14:11Speaker 4: they were going to get a cornerstone kind of like
- 14:14Speaker 4: slam dunk prospect, I don't really see that in this deal.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Good stuff. JJ Hot Sheet by the Way live every
- 14:22Speaker 1: single week on the Baseball America YouTube channel. Go check
- 14:26Speaker 1: it out. Plus, they just published a fresh top one
- 14:29Speaker 1: hundred prospects in this sport. It is one of the
- 14:32Speaker 1: most coveted times of year for Baseball America subscribers to
- 14:36Speaker 1: head right to the site to get that premium content.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Shake it up.
- 14:43Speaker 1: We got a little news. Sir Anthony Demingez and the
- 14:46Speaker 1: White Sox agree on a two year, twenty million dollar contract.
- 14:51Speaker 1: He's thirty one years old and he's expected to be
- 14:54Speaker 1: the closer for the White Sox. They're going to use
- 14:57Speaker 1: that money saved in Luise Robert deal to continue adding
- 15:00Speaker 1: this winter. This according to ESPN's Jeff Passing, Well, that
- 15:05Speaker 1: was quick. I will give them credit.
- 15:07Speaker 2: That was quick.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I debated this what yesterday or the day before two
- 15:13Speaker 1: days ago when the deal was made, right, Because yesterday
- 15:16Speaker 1: we went over to Freddie p trade for the Mets.
- 15:17Speaker 1: The day before is when we went over the Louis
- 15:20Speaker 1: Robert acquisition for New York. And if you're talking about
- 15:23Speaker 1: a White Sox team that certainly is not spending like
- 15:26Speaker 1: they should, you got to give them credit here. They
- 15:28Speaker 1: trade a player away who they've been talking about forever.
- 15:31Speaker 1: They got a prospect return, and I mean really a
- 15:33Speaker 1: major league player. Also in louis An Hellocuni is not
- 15:36Speaker 1: really a prospect anymore. It's a guy who can play
- 15:38Speaker 1: in the big leagues. Now, is he going to be
- 15:40Speaker 1: an end of the bench super utility guy or is
- 15:42Speaker 1: he going to be a starting center fielder for them? Tbd.
- 15:45Speaker 1: He'll get a lane, he'll get an opening for playing time.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So for them, they feel like, yes, Acunya does not
- 15:51Speaker 1: have the same upside as Luise Robert, but we haven't
- 15:54Speaker 1: seen the twenty twenty three version of Louise Robert since
- 15:56Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, and they could not keep him on
- 15:58Speaker 1: the field. So they unload that twenty really even twenty
- 16:01Speaker 1: two million dollars if you include a two million dollar
- 16:04Speaker 1: buyout in case that happens for the Mets, they're taking
- 16:07Speaker 1: on at least twenty two million bucks. Eric's back, So Kratz,
- 16:12Speaker 1: we're going over how I was right, you and aj
- 16:15Speaker 1: were wrong. The White Sox immediately reinvested at least half
- 16:19Speaker 1: the money so far in player salary for twenty twenty six,
- 16:22Speaker 1: And it sounds like Jeff Passens report includes that they're
- 16:26Speaker 1: going to continue to be active in the market. If
- 16:29Speaker 1: they said, hey, we saved about twenty two million dollars,
- 16:32Speaker 1: they just spent half that on a per season basis
- 16:35Speaker 1: right now. They spent the whole but half that for
- 16:37Speaker 1: this player salary coming up. So give them credit there
- 16:41Speaker 1: for two things. And this is something that they did
- 16:42Speaker 1: not do well in the early part of their rebuild.
- 16:45Speaker 1: They were doing almost nothing and we were screaming, hey,
- 16:49Speaker 1: get a guy like Sir Anthony Dimingez, let him help
- 16:52Speaker 1: you close out games, which is a huge issue for
- 16:54Speaker 1: them in general. Right Their bullpen has mostly been a
- 16:56Speaker 1: mess the last few years, So that's a bonus that'll
- 16:59Speaker 1: win you more games. Then if you get to the
- 17:01Speaker 1: trade deadline and you're not good, that's one of the
- 17:03Speaker 1: easiest assets to flip, so you don't end up paying
- 17:06Speaker 1: the full salary and you end up getting prospects back.
- 17:09Speaker 1: So bravo to the White Sox for doing something they
- 17:11Speaker 1: should have been doing during this entire teardown.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I love that they spent the twenty million.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Hopefully it's not just them spending the twenty million for
- 17:20Speaker 3: the two years spread out over the two years. But
- 17:23Speaker 3: I would definitely like to know because to get to
- 17:26Speaker 3: get a guy like Sir Anthony Dimiguez, what did his
- 17:29Speaker 3: mark his market look like. Is he a surefire lockdown closer.
- 17:35Speaker 2: No?
- 17:36Speaker 3: To me, I think his bet he's best suited for
- 17:38Speaker 3: the eighth inning. I can get into why, but just
- 17:41Speaker 3: watching him throw and watching his some of his inconsistencies
- 17:45Speaker 3: while he's still an elite pitcher, some of his inconsistencies
- 17:49Speaker 3: just tailor him to maybe be better in that eighth
- 17:53Speaker 3: inning role and not necessarily needing that like punch out
- 17:57Speaker 3: closer reliever stuff. So good for the White Sox for
- 18:01Speaker 3: doing this. Good for them that they went to a
- 18:05Speaker 3: guy that cancer Anthony helped some of these younger failed
- 18:10Speaker 3: starting pitchers that the White Sox are going to put
- 18:12Speaker 3: in their bullpen and help them have success, help them
- 18:17Speaker 3: figure out how to be good big leaguers. Yes, does
- 18:21Speaker 3: this mean that the White Sox think they're going to
- 18:22Speaker 3: win in the next two years. No, But they tagged
- 18:27Speaker 3: him as a guy that was going to give them
- 18:30Speaker 3: quality leadership down there for two years, quality innings for
- 18:35Speaker 3: two years, and hopefully take another small step. This is
- 18:39Speaker 3: definitely a small step forward for the White Sox, which
- 18:43Speaker 3: is what they need to do. They need to keep
- 18:44Speaker 3: putting those those feet forward and don't I don't agree.
- 18:48Speaker 3: I don't think they should have done this before this,
- 18:51Speaker 3: like you said, Scott, because they didn't know what they
- 18:53Speaker 3: were going to have with Colson Montgomery. They didn't know
- 18:55Speaker 3: what they were going to have with Teal and my
- 18:57Speaker 3: draft guys that are now after a partial first season
- 19:02Speaker 3: in the big leagues. Okay, yeah, we can work around
- 19:05Speaker 3: those guys. Now you start making some of the subsidiary moves,
- 19:09Speaker 3: like a Sir Anthony to make this just.
- 19:11Speaker 1: To be clear. So you think, for example, the prior
- 19:13Speaker 1: to off season, it's not like they did nothing, but
- 19:15Speaker 1: they didn't do many moves like this, you thought that
- 19:18Speaker 1: they shouldn't invest at all in free agent talent because
- 19:22Speaker 1: to me, there are.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Other relievers free agent relievers, but they're one of.
- 19:27Speaker 1: The easiest things to flip. So for me, those are
- 19:30Speaker 1: one of the spots that you target because you know
- 19:32Speaker 1: that as long as the guy performs decently well, you're
- 19:36Speaker 1: able to trade him. Everyone is looking for relief pitching
- 19:39Speaker 1: at the trade deadline. That's my point was, how else
- 19:41Speaker 1: do you get better when you're going through the rebuild, right,
- 19:44Speaker 1: you're going to build through the draft. They've made it
- 19:46Speaker 1: a little tougher. They were part of the lottery situation
- 19:48Speaker 1: where what they would have in the past had the
- 19:50Speaker 1: first overall pick and instead ended up picking what it
- 19:53Speaker 1: was at ten or eleven a year or two ago. Ten. Okay,
- 19:56Speaker 1: So one other way that you can play a little
- 19:58Speaker 1: catch up is that you can spend some of your
- 20:01Speaker 1: money on free agent talent that you know you're able
- 20:03Speaker 1: to flip. So that was my only point was that
- 20:06Speaker 1: I don't feel like they touched that market, and now
- 20:08Speaker 1: it seems like they are, And.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I mean, I think we're Maybe it's just semantics, but
- 20:12Speaker 3: I think when you spend four or five million dollars,
- 20:15Speaker 3: even six million dollars on a one year reliever, sometimes
- 20:19Speaker 3: those dudes are put in roles that you're not gonna
- 20:21Speaker 3: be able to get the most out of them. Let's
- 20:23Speaker 3: say you get a Chris Martin type of pitcher and
- 20:25Speaker 3: the White Sox have nobody else. You're thrusting him in
- 20:28Speaker 3: against a lineup, part of the lineup that's he needs
- 20:33Speaker 3: to he needs to not be facing. And it's nothing
- 20:36Speaker 3: Chris Martin. He's had a tremendous career, nice resurgence late
- 20:40Speaker 3: here too, is you as a bad team. If you're
- 20:45Speaker 3: spending a lot of money or some money and it's
- 20:47Speaker 3: the only money you're spending on the relief core, those
- 20:52Speaker 3: guys are gonna be put in situations where they're more
- 20:54Speaker 3: like a six seven to eight inning pitcher and they're
- 20:56Speaker 3: put more than eight to nine roll and then you
- 20:59Speaker 3: don't get that value. To me, it's the value where
- 21:01Speaker 3: you get a Martine Perez, which they did, and you
- 21:05Speaker 3: know what he was doing really well, didn't stay healthy
- 21:08Speaker 3: and he was able to help that rotation. I just
- 21:12Speaker 3: don't I don't see it one hundred percent, But it's semantics.
- 21:15Speaker 3: I like this move because it's that next tier above
- 21:18Speaker 3: that like six to seven million dollars a year guy
- 21:23Speaker 3: that sir Anthony is in that tier.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's some turnover here if you look at
- 21:27Speaker 1: the White Sox. Anthony k was picked up this offseason.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Sean Newcomb was picked up this offseason. They're hoping that
- 21:35Speaker 1: both of those guys are going to be part of
- 21:36Speaker 1: the twenty twenty six rotation. I mentioned Akunya earlier and
- 21:41Speaker 1: then the big boy. We'll see what Mirakami looks like
- 21:44Speaker 1: is he going to be this instant smash hit. So
- 21:48Speaker 1: you've got power that you just added to the mix.
- 21:51Speaker 1: You've got a little bit of pitching depth that you added.
- 21:53Speaker 1: For the White Sox. By no means am I saying
- 21:55Speaker 1: that they're going to be a playoff team. But I
- 21:58Speaker 1: do think this is a much better looking roster than
- 22:00Speaker 1: the one. I mean really the previous two years. Two
- 22:04Speaker 1: years ago they were the worst team ever in terms
- 22:06Speaker 1: of losses. This past season a little bit better and
- 22:09Speaker 1: they did that without their by far top starting pitcher
- 22:12Speaker 1: in Garrett Crochet. So things getting a little bit rosier
- 22:16Speaker 1: for the White Sox power ranking them. Do I think
- 22:18Speaker 1: they have a chance. No, I don't think they have
- 22:21Speaker 1: a chance. Todd Father, do you in the American League Central?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they have an opportunity. I think they do.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I think it's listen, anything goes here man at the
- 22:34Speaker 2: end of the day.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's really good teams.
- 22:36Speaker 2: We've seen it last year.
- 22:37Speaker 1: There's some teams that you didn't think that would make.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Yeah, we had we had some we had some difficulties.
- 22:52Speaker 1: White everyone would happened Kratz.
- 22:54Speaker 3: The White Socks come down to hang out.
- 22:56Speaker 1: With you guys today because I knew that someone was
- 22:59Speaker 1: going to try and try your damn internet off and
- 23:01Speaker 1: you would need me to talk more than they usually do.
- 23:03Speaker 3: And it's probably some White Sox fans who are like Todd,
- 23:08Speaker 3: the White Sox do not have a chance in the
- 23:10Speaker 3: al central that they do.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Ahead of time, I wasn't done until I got you guys,
- 23:14Speaker 2: couldn't hear me.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Well, I'm glad I'm.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Giving the benefit of the doubt. Listen, they're trying, They're trying.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Are they gonna be good? No, they're not gonna make
- 23:23Speaker 2: the playoffs. But like I said, it's wide open. Everything's
- 23:27Speaker 2: up for judgment. But this is one team that I
- 23:29Speaker 2: can say right now that probably won't make the playoffs.
- 23:32Speaker 2: But they are going to battle. They're going to battle.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Go ahead, Todd, people, listen to you because you're an
- 23:37Speaker 3: honest person. I probably won't make the playoffs. Say it
- 23:41Speaker 3: with your chest.
- 23:42Speaker 2: No they're not gonna.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Okay, thank you, No, there you go. That's it gonna.
- 23:46Speaker 3: But I think the White Sox are better. I think
- 23:48Speaker 3: they made I think they made steps to improve last year.
- 23:51Speaker 3: I think they have so much to appreciate, understand and
- 23:58Speaker 3: move on from last year. I think they took the
- 24:01Speaker 3: next step. I think the first step was Will Venable
- 24:04Speaker 3: coming in. Yeah, upgrade central at that position, the manager position.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Now you're seeing these young guys who are hungry first
- 24:13Speaker 3: and foremost. Kyle Teel hungry and he's playing a position
- 24:17Speaker 3: where everybody's gonna look at him every single play. Yeah,
- 24:20Speaker 3: I get it. He didn't hit three hundred, he didn't
- 24:22Speaker 3: hit thirty bombs. But I think your star is going
- 24:25Speaker 3: to be Colson Montgomery. I think you have those young
- 24:28Speaker 3: guys that are playing their role very well under Will Venable,
- 24:33Speaker 3: but I think adding some like wild cards here, they
- 24:37Speaker 3: are definitely improved. So kudos to Chris Getz for improving
- 24:41Speaker 3: this team. They're not making the playoffs.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Now, hear me out, and I hopefully you agree with
- 24:47Speaker 2: me here. Like these guys that are on this team,
- 24:49Speaker 2: they're they're fighting for me. If I'm playing on a
- 24:52Speaker 2: Chicago White SoC team.
- 24:54Speaker 3: At the beginning of your career, or you're playing it right.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Now, right now, Okay, it doesn't matter beginning or end.
- 25:01Speaker 2: There's opportunities to go play for other teams in playoff games.
- 25:05Speaker 2: If you go out and bang other teams like Hey man,
- 25:09Speaker 2: you know we had an injury at third base. This cat,
- 25:12Speaker 2: Todd Frazier's tearing it up with the White Sox. Let's
- 25:14Speaker 2: do a quick trade. Bang boom. They're playing for other teams.
- 25:17Speaker 2: In my opinion, like knowing this team's not gonna make.
- 25:20Speaker 3: It, not the young but still not the young guys.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Still they're untouchable because.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Figure, if they want to put them in a trade.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Bait, there's I don't I'm.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Not saying they're going to, but I'm saying, like, listen,
- 25:32Speaker 2: well we want we want this guy because he's dominating.
- 25:36Speaker 2: We'll give you so and so and some cash or
- 25:37Speaker 2: whatever it is to make a playoff push. You can
- 25:40Speaker 2: get actually two or three other guys that can help
- 25:42Speaker 2: in that organization move forward. So again, I'm not the
- 25:45Speaker 2: biggest on prospects, you know what I say about them.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But at the same time, if you're a White Sox
- 25:50Speaker 2: team and you're not trying to win a World Series
- 25:52Speaker 2: now you're trying to get the pieces. Who's to say
- 25:55Speaker 2: that you can't get two other pieces just because one
- 25:57Speaker 2: other guy's going out there and dominating to help another team.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, they're gonna do more.
- 26:01Speaker 2: You're playing for the White Sox. But also you're playing
- 26:04Speaker 2: for your future.
- 26:05Speaker 3: That's all. That's always, Yeah, that's always. But I don't
- 26:08Speaker 3: think the White Sox not to get into it anymore.
- 26:10Speaker 3: But I don't think the White Sox are trading any
- 26:12Speaker 3: of those young guys because one Chris Getz, was working
- 26:15Speaker 3: in the minor league when they was there. So it's
- 26:17Speaker 3: like they're either gonna survive. They're either gonna do awesome
- 26:20Speaker 3: with his guys, or they're not. And that's they just
- 26:23Speaker 3: got here.
- 26:23Speaker 1: He's not trading the prospects. That's the whole point. Is
- 26:25Speaker 1: that you build up a farm system and a core
- 26:28Speaker 1: that you can either lock up long term or at
- 26:30Speaker 1: least you have them. They cost nothing right now. And
- 26:32Speaker 1: for some people that are like, oh, like so unfair
- 26:34Speaker 1: that the small market teams just buy up these guys
- 26:36Speaker 1: to trade them. Well, the White Socks aren't a small
- 26:38Speaker 1: market team, so let's wipe that away. Look up Chicago,
- 26:42Speaker 1: type Chicago DMA into Google. Let me know how that goes.
- 26:46Speaker 1: They're just operating like that right now. That's not our problem.
- 26:48Speaker 1: That's their problem. It's the year that just will never
- 26:59Speaker 1: go away. In baseball. Carlos Beltron acknowledges it. There was
- 27:03Speaker 1: a story put out by Jason Stark in The Athletic
- 27:05Speaker 1: that went over quotes from Carlos Beltron up in Cooperstown,
- 27:09Speaker 1: reflecting on the Hall of Fame nod and of course
- 27:11Speaker 1: getting questions about the twenty seventeen cheating scandal, not just
- 27:15Speaker 1: because he was on that team, he was the only
- 27:18Speaker 1: player listed in there. As for a paraphrase, here someone
- 27:22Speaker 1: who is a key player in this. So he is
- 27:25Speaker 1: well aware, right, and it comes out, and it was
- 27:28Speaker 1: right after he was going to be the Mets manager,
- 27:30Speaker 1: and then that went away. So there were ramifications for him.
- 27:34Speaker 1: They weren't any from his playing days, and it took
- 27:37Speaker 1: him several years to get into the Hall of Fame.
- 27:39Speaker 1: So let's dig into it. Todd Father, we've got the
- 27:42Speaker 1: right guy on today, because you were on the other
- 27:44Speaker 1: end of this and you haven't forgotten it either. And
- 27:47Speaker 1: Beltron was a beloved player. He went over all of
- 27:49Speaker 1: this twenty years in the bigs. Ask teammates how I was,
- 27:53Speaker 1: ask people how I was in promoting the game, what
- 27:56Speaker 1: he's done in Puerto Rico to enhance the sport down
- 27:59Speaker 1: there and educate people, and actually literally just educate people
- 28:02Speaker 1: aside from baseball. He launched a whole high school that
- 28:06Speaker 1: he basically built from scratch. Right, So he's done a
- 28:08Speaker 1: lot in the baseball world, in the community, and he
- 28:12Speaker 1: was acknowledging the fact that it is never going to
- 28:14Speaker 1: go away, and he's aware of that, but he doesn't
- 28:17Speaker 1: want it to define him. The nitty gritty that he
- 28:20Speaker 1: went over Todd was how it was. And again I'm paraphrasing,
- 28:24Speaker 1: but like a Wild West situation, they thought everyone was
- 28:27Speaker 1: just going all out to do anything they could, and
- 28:30Speaker 1: they took it to a level that for some of
- 28:32Speaker 1: them they didn't realize other teams weren't doing. Do you
- 28:35Speaker 1: buy that? And in this article it talks about how
- 28:38Speaker 1: the Yankees and the Red Sox were punished right on
- 28:42Speaker 1: in seventeen and what's known as a base runner system
- 28:45Speaker 1: sign sequences to coded using in game video disseminated to
- 28:47Speaker 1: the dugout. Then when a runner got to second base
- 28:50Speaker 1: runner would often know how to catch or how to
- 28:53Speaker 1: crack the catcher's code. Right, we all heard about the
- 28:55Speaker 1: watch situation for the Red Sox, but Yankees and Red
- 28:57Speaker 1: Sox were both punished. Astros were like had some players
- 29:01Speaker 1: coming from previous Yankee teams, and they were like, hey,
- 29:03Speaker 1: let's take this to the next level. Forget the runner
- 29:05Speaker 1: at second, we can just relay every pitch. So your
- 29:08Speaker 1: thoughts on what Beltron said.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I think honestly, you know, if we're looking at
- 29:15Speaker 2: his whole career, I mean, let's take his whole career
- 29:18Speaker 2: for example, I mean he was a monster in the playoffs,
- 29:21Speaker 2: absolute stud Hall of Fame, Masque, playoff, just playoff wise alone.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Some of the things he did were absolutely unbelievable. He
- 29:30Speaker 2: was a great player, he was a great teammate. Ultimately,
- 29:34Speaker 2: he made a mistake. He made a big mistake, and
- 29:37Speaker 2: I don't think, honestly I would agree to him. I
- 29:39Speaker 2: don't think that should define him. I think he's an
- 29:42Speaker 2: upstanding gentleman. I've gotten known him over the years. He's
- 29:45Speaker 2: a really good guy. I think he deserves to be
- 29:48Speaker 2: in the Hall of Fame. If you want the truth,
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, if we're going back in time, like listen, yeah,
- 29:52Speaker 2: they screwed up. There was a lot of things that
- 29:55Speaker 2: other teams did with electronics, you know, human element o. Man,
- 30:01Speaker 2: let's let's find a way to get you know what
- 30:02Speaker 2: this guy he has to tell but they went above
- 30:05Speaker 2: and beyond relaying signs left and right. Red Sox did
- 30:08Speaker 2: the same thing Astros. It was just stuff that you've
- 30:12Speaker 2: never heard of, and it's still it still hurts it
- 30:14Speaker 2: this day. I'm still upset about it, but I have
- 30:16Speaker 2: to find a way to move on too as well.
- 30:18Speaker 2: You know, I can't let that really crush me as
- 30:21Speaker 2: I move forward. You know, something I'll never forget, But
- 30:24Speaker 2: I'm taking away with what he did for the game,
- 30:27Speaker 2: and I thought, no doubt about it. Hall of Famer.
- 30:30Speaker 2: His numbers prove it. He's a great guy too as well.
- 30:33Speaker 2: He made a huge mistake and I think him taking
- 30:36Speaker 2: ownership for it is really good. But at the same time, yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 2: a lot of people people always remember the negative stuff.
- 30:42Speaker 2: That's just how the world is right now. They're always
- 30:44Speaker 2: gonna remember that. They're not gonna remember always what he
- 30:46Speaker 2: did best. But he was one of the better players
- 30:49Speaker 2: to ever play this game, and I think he deserves
- 30:51Speaker 2: being the Hall of Fame.
- 30:51Speaker 3: P Yeah, I mean, I agree, he's a Hall of Famer.
- 30:55Speaker 3: I think his his career, his numbers stand for itself.
- 30:59Speaker 3: But if you feel like if your opinion about the
- 31:03Speaker 3: Astros signed stealing scandal is so egregious that he lied
- 31:08Speaker 3: that he, you know, cheated the system, then you're always
- 31:13Speaker 3: going to sit there and go. If he did it once,
- 31:16Speaker 3: he probably did it other times. Or he took it
- 31:19Speaker 3: from the Yankees and they were doing something like it,
- 31:21Speaker 3: and he took it from you know, the Mets when
- 31:24Speaker 3: he was there, he originally learned it with the Royals.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I choose to see it as way less nefarious as
- 31:32Speaker 3: everybody else does. And I have would never sit here
- 31:35Speaker 3: and boo somebody that was part of that, because I
- 31:39Speaker 3: saw what was going on there and I don't think
- 31:42Speaker 3: the I don't think the Astros were the only ones
- 31:47Speaker 3: that were crossing the line. But my line is a
- 31:49Speaker 3: little bit different. But I also know that in that
- 31:52Speaker 3: series with Todd playing, we talked about it in our
- 31:56Speaker 3: Catchers meetings, in our Pictures meetings that we were going
- 31:59Speaker 3: to have nine to twelve mound visits a game to
- 32:03Speaker 3: switch the signs up. We weren't gonna go, h third sign,
- 32:07Speaker 3: shake first sign, like this, it's not what you're doing.
- 32:11Speaker 3: So did the sign stealing video stuff with the trash
- 32:15Speaker 3: cans make the Yankees lose in that series? No, I
- 32:19Speaker 3: do not believe so because of how much how many
- 32:23Speaker 3: measures we were taking, because we already knew they were
- 32:26Speaker 3: doing stuff. So if you feel like Carlos Beltron was
- 32:30Speaker 3: a cheater his entire career, I have a hard time
- 32:32Speaker 3: telling you know, but I'm trying to tell you that
- 32:35Speaker 3: that's not how you make the Hall of Fame. He
- 32:37Speaker 3: was not an average player that just cheated his way
- 32:41Speaker 3: to being one of the best players of all time.
- 32:43Speaker 3: It just it didn't happen. I watched him on the field.
- 32:46Speaker 3: His size, his speed, his swing from both sides of
- 32:49Speaker 3: the plate is exactly why he's a Hall of Famer.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Everybody's done something. Very few Hall of famers slash superstars,
- 32:56Speaker 3: guys that play for twenty years don't have some type
- 32:59Speaker 3: of blemish on their career where you're like, oh, well
- 33:02Speaker 3: what about this?
- 33:05Speaker 2: Listen? And also, like you think back that Ald situation,
- 33:08Speaker 2: like if it was that, what do you call nefarious?
- 33:11Speaker 2: How you like to say, is that nefarious? Like crafty?
- 33:15Speaker 2: You like to say? Manford's the one that that needed
- 33:18Speaker 2: to come down and do something else about it. There,
- 33:21Speaker 2: I mean, the they basically got.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Baseball knew about it, Yeah, they knew about it.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Then there they got to slap on the wrist. Pretty
- 33:27Speaker 2: much just come out and say that you did it. Okay, great,
- 33:30Speaker 2: now what move on? And it was hard to move on,
- 33:33Speaker 2: but it's hard for you to move on. And we
- 33:36Speaker 2: were part of it.
- 33:36Speaker 3: And Major League Baseball, Major leaue Baseball painted the picture
- 33:40Speaker 3: that we had no idea. Oh just go go in
- 33:43Speaker 3: and look at all the grievances against the Astros just
- 33:46Speaker 3: that season. Everybody glazes over that nobody thinks about that
- 33:50Speaker 3: when they keep booing Jose Altuve, who multiple players have
- 33:54Speaker 3: come out and said he was not part of it.
- 33:57Speaker 3: I believe that this is this was not a thing,
- 33:59Speaker 3: because just knowing how touve for a little bit that
- 34:02Speaker 3: I played with him, and a little bit that we
- 34:03Speaker 3: traveled to Japan together. I believe that. But people are
- 34:06Speaker 3: choosing their reality. And I'm just sitting here telling you
- 34:11Speaker 3: what Major League Baseball has wanted to kind of skirt
- 34:14Speaker 3: under the rug. We didn't. We didn't have any part
- 34:15Speaker 3: of this, just like Bud Seely didn't get any He
- 34:18Speaker 3: got into the Hall of Fame, and the steroid guys
- 34:20Speaker 3: aren't in the Hall of Fame. He's a Hall of
- 34:22Speaker 3: Fame general manager, So why under his under his rule.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I say sorry, man, commissioner. Why
- 34:31Speaker 3: under that that this major scandal that everybody in the
- 34:36Speaker 3: world has been like, oh, how could baseball have the
- 34:38Speaker 3: steroid era? Who is the commissioner? You you are you're
- 34:42Speaker 3: complicit in it? If you are the boss, you're not
- 34:45Speaker 3: just you can't be. He's not that naive that, Oh,
- 34:49Speaker 3: I just have no idea. Just like they knew about
- 34:52Speaker 3: the astros, but they didn't want to do anything about
- 34:54Speaker 3: it because there was people having grievances. Other teams were
- 34:58Speaker 3: getting grievances written about them.
- 35:00Speaker 2: It was it was just a weird time and unfortunate
- 35:03Speaker 2: time because we're on the raw end of the stick.
- 35:06Speaker 2: We win the World Series, nobody cares, you know what
- 35:08Speaker 2: I mean. If they lose the World Series, it would
- 35:11Speaker 2: something might have came up, but it wouldn't be as
- 35:14Speaker 2: big because they, oh, we'll sor right. They didn't win,
- 35:17Speaker 2: so it's okay, but totally we won't forget it. But
- 35:20Speaker 2: ultimately they won the World Series. If one person does it,
- 35:24Speaker 2: everybody does it. In my opinion, they're a team and
- 35:26Speaker 2: will never ever know the full truth about who did it.
- 35:29Speaker 3: So benefited the most yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And listen, you're gonna tell me what pitchre's coming. Please, Lord,
- 35:34Speaker 2: I would have loved to known every single time I'm
- 35:36Speaker 2: hitting that ball hard or I'm taking it, I'm taking
- 35:39Speaker 2: a hack where I know I'm gonna be comfortable, and
- 35:41Speaker 2: I've done it before because pictures have tells We've had
- 35:44Speaker 2: a bunch of guys that can pick it up. Chili
- 35:46Speaker 2: Davis was the best my hitting coach. He goes phrase,
- 35:48Speaker 2: I'm like, seventy thirty. I said, seventy thirty. I'll take
- 35:51Speaker 2: that every day to week. Every day means sixty forty.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I'll take that every but he got but he always
- 35:56Speaker 2: told me, he said, listen, you can't be mad at
- 35:57Speaker 2: me if I get wrong. I said, yeah, you got
- 35:59Speaker 2: thirty percent. And we messed around. But it was an
- 36:03Speaker 2: advantage at the time, of course, so that that'll be
- 36:06Speaker 2: the little blemish. But again that I don't think it
- 36:08Speaker 2: should overshadow his career and what he did.
- 36:10Speaker 3: And Carlos didn't have a good year that year, so
- 36:12Speaker 3: if you think, oh, yeah, you know, he helped the
- 36:14Speaker 3: other guys out, but you go down the list one
- 36:16Speaker 3: of the dudes that had great years that year. If
- 36:18Speaker 3: you're just talking about the Astros had great years that
- 36:21Speaker 3: year and never once again touched that level. Go along
- 36:26Speaker 3: that go down that line, and then you tell me
- 36:28Speaker 3: who you think did or did not.
- 36:30Speaker 1: But I mar Gonzalez, I don't care. I'll name names.
- 36:33Speaker 1: There's stats up there. I mean, there are others, but
- 36:36Speaker 1: Marvin Gonzalez. I mean, let's call a fade a spade.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Marwin's numbers that year were insane, incredible.
- 36:42Speaker 2: But I'm not even gonna number I'm just gonna say
- 36:44Speaker 2: moments in playoff moments like where maybe they didn't know
- 36:49Speaker 2: what was coming. I could have got to roll over
- 36:50Speaker 2: double play, like you don't know what the outcome was
- 36:52Speaker 2: gonna be, you know, the walk off home runs to
- 36:55Speaker 2: what was coming. Like, listen, I'm gonna hit the ball hard.
- 36:57Speaker 2: If you know what's coming, you're gonna be I'm telling you,
- 37:00Speaker 2: your body relaxes, your brain's like, oh, confidence out the roof.
- 37:04Speaker 2: That plays a part when you're hitting. And I don't care,
- 37:07Speaker 2: I'm I'm hitting foul ball down the line third base
- 37:09Speaker 2: and better watch out in the third base coach. That's
- 37:10Speaker 2: probably Yeah, it's gonna come in hot. You gotta be ready.
- 37:14Speaker 2: So yeah, it was a big advantage and nothing really happened.
- 37:17Speaker 2: And we've talked about this numerous time. Bud Beltrand Hall
- 37:21Speaker 2: of Famer, congrats, yep.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I can I ask you guys a question. If you
- 37:25Speaker 1: were on that team, what would you do? So I'm
- 37:28Speaker 1: trying to see and Beltron's not the right one to
- 37:31Speaker 1: pinpoint here because he was one of the ringleaders. But
- 37:35Speaker 1: there are people in the chat right now saying anyone
- 37:37Speaker 1: that was involved with that team, like, they're nothing for me, right,
- 37:41Speaker 1: that was the ultimate They don't get to deserve to
- 37:44Speaker 1: get into anything, blah blah blah. Right, So like, if
- 37:47Speaker 1: you're good that player on that team, what were you
- 37:50Speaker 1: supposed to do? Do you tell on your team never gonna.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Be a rat?
- 37:55Speaker 1: So what were you supposed to do? I mean, if
- 37:57Speaker 1: you're not one of the three big boys there, how
- 38:00Speaker 1: are you supposed to do anything?
- 38:02Speaker 2: And wait, oh, you fall in line.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Right, other teams are doing stuff. You're just doing it.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I want to say better, but you're just you're cheating harder.
- 38:11Speaker 1: That was what was going on. So if you're on
- 38:13Speaker 1: that team, what are you supposed to do? I'm not
- 38:15Speaker 1: defending them because at the time I was like, this
- 38:17Speaker 1: is insane, but we also learned how widespread it was
- 38:20Speaker 1: in the game at the time. They just were doing
- 38:22Speaker 1: it at a higher level and at a level that
- 38:24Speaker 1: I think most people agreed took it too far. But
- 38:27Speaker 1: then now you go back and you're like, it was
- 38:28Speaker 1: all too far. The electronics stuff from the dugout was ridiculous.
- 38:33Speaker 3: It was it was all too far, and everybody's going
- 38:35Speaker 3: to have their opinion. I spoke out after I was
- 38:39Speaker 3: done playing and called some teams out, and there are
- 38:43Speaker 3: significant players on the one team that is very pissed
- 38:47Speaker 3: at me for calling their team out in that situation.
- 38:51Speaker 3: And my my information is taken from a player that
- 38:56Speaker 3: played on that team and saw what they did, and
- 39:00Speaker 3: doesn't mean that it was as far as what the
- 39:02Speaker 3: Astros did, But that player's pissed because they're associated with
- 39:09Speaker 3: what the Astros did. So their reality is completely fine
- 39:15Speaker 3: what they were doing, but it's not what you're allowed
- 39:18Speaker 3: to do right now, So was it fine another team
- 39:22Speaker 3: that I called out? The only two teams I called
- 39:24Speaker 3: out were from players that played on that team that
- 39:28Speaker 3: I played with later in my career. Yeah, that's what
- 39:30Speaker 3: we were doing, But I don't think in the playoffs
- 39:33Speaker 3: Todd that it was as big of a hindrance, or
- 39:38Speaker 3: it was as big it was used as much as
- 39:40Speaker 3: people would think. I think people see the trash can
- 39:42Speaker 3: scandal as every single pitch. I'm gonna get it. But
- 39:46Speaker 3: you know what, playoffs only take one pitch to be swung.
- 39:50Speaker 3: You swing, you swing your team in one direction. With
- 39:54Speaker 3: one swing, you could hit one hundred. Look at Max
- 39:56Speaker 3: Munsey's a bat in the World Series. Some people look
- 40:00Speaker 3: at it and go, ah, whatever, it was just one
- 40:01Speaker 3: home run. It made the game four to three. No
- 40:04Speaker 3: it it put Miguel Rojas in a situation where one
- 40:08Speaker 3: swing ties them up, which then gets them to the
- 40:12Speaker 3: to the Will Smith swing that puts them ahead. Like
- 40:15Speaker 3: that's how the playoffs work. And I don't think fans
- 40:19Speaker 3: need to just put a blanket statement. Anybody that was
- 40:22Speaker 3: a part of it, you're done because exactly what Scott said,
- 40:26Speaker 3: you would fall in line too, because the ultimate goal
- 40:29Speaker 3: as a player is to win a World Series. And
- 40:32Speaker 3: Carlos Beltron holds a lot of clout. He was at
- 40:35Speaker 3: the end of his career, and you start looking to
- 40:38Speaker 3: those vets and that time. I mean the different guys
- 40:41Speaker 3: that I played with at the end of their ends
- 40:43Speaker 3: of their career, Brett Gardner, C. C. Sabbathia. You know,
- 40:48Speaker 3: you start saying, we're playing for that guy, We're playing
- 40:50Speaker 3: to win a World Series for that guy. It's not
- 40:52Speaker 3: what necessarily drives everybody, but that stuff's mentioned. Carlos comes
- 40:56Speaker 3: up with this thing, your bench coach Alex Korra is
- 41:00Speaker 3: out with this thing. Guys, we want to win. We
- 41:03Speaker 3: got a good team here. We fell short and fifteen,
- 41:06Speaker 3: we didn't make the playoffs in sixteen. Now we're back
- 41:09Speaker 3: and we're in the World Series in seventeen. Yeah, like
- 41:13Speaker 3: they wanted to win it, and you would fall in line.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Everybody out there would fall in line. Two.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you're also trying to stay in the league. You know,
- 41:22Speaker 1: if you're not one of the stars. I mean, what
- 41:24Speaker 1: are you going to do? Just go tell on them
- 41:25Speaker 1: and then think nothing's going to happen. You think MLB
- 41:28Speaker 1: is going to have your back and not say, oh,
- 41:30Speaker 1: this guy told on you. Of course they're going to
- 41:32Speaker 1: because that's what they're going to use as evidence against you.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Todd Father, what did you want the league to do
- 41:38Speaker 1: that would have made the difference, Because some people are like, oh,
- 41:41Speaker 1: because it would have been difficult with the players and
- 41:43Speaker 1: the players' union and getting rid of money and suspensions whatever.
- 41:47Speaker 1: And for me, I don't care about that. Like if
- 41:48Speaker 1: you said the next season or once they found out
- 41:51Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen and they they suspend them for X
- 41:53Speaker 1: amount of game, who cares. It already happened. I think
- 41:55Speaker 1: the only thing that could have been done to send
- 41:57Speaker 1: the message was the what was the line, the damn
- 42:00Speaker 1: metal piece of metal to take that away, that would
- 42:05Speaker 1: have been the thing where you're like, hey, I know
- 42:06Speaker 1: not one individual could have called this out so easily,
- 42:08Speaker 1: but as a team, this is what happened, and so
- 42:11Speaker 1: we're stripping the title like the NCAA used to do
- 42:13Speaker 1: if some player got caught taking some cash. Even though
- 42:16Speaker 1: half the league was taken, half the NCAA was taking
- 42:19Speaker 1: cash with a Reggie Bush usc it I.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Since I was a part of it, I don't think
- 42:25Speaker 2: anything would have changed it because we can't go back
- 42:27Speaker 2: and and we can't play the Dodgers. The Yankees couldn't
- 42:30Speaker 2: play the Dodgers again, So I don't think anything changed.
- 42:33Speaker 2: You could take the flag down, you can, you know,
- 42:35Speaker 2: take away the rings. But in my mind, if I'm
- 42:39Speaker 2: on the Astros. I still won the World Series. We
- 42:41Speaker 2: were the best team. So I don't know ultimately what
- 42:44Speaker 2: you could have done to hurt those guys, But you know,
- 42:48Speaker 2: like Kratzy said, it probably wasn't everybody, but it was
- 42:51Speaker 2: a lot.
- 42:51Speaker 3: It was a good amount.
- 42:52Speaker 2: So I don't know the answer there. But you know,
- 42:55Speaker 2: that would be the first thing that comes to mind.
- 42:57Speaker 2: What does that really do? What do you do you ring? Anyway?
- 43:00Speaker 2: You just put it in a nice place for keepsake
- 43:03Speaker 2: and bring it out once or twice a year when
- 43:05Speaker 2: you're hanging with the cronies or you're going to you know,
- 43:09Speaker 2: a big event.
- 43:09Speaker 3: So yeah, I and and I think I think if
- 43:14Speaker 3: maybe this is the player's side of me who got
- 43:17Speaker 3: punished for this? Alex Alex aj Hinch, Hinch, Alex Cora,
- 43:23Speaker 3: Carlos beltrm, they are the ones that got punished. Why
- 43:29Speaker 3: did the commissioner of Baseball who failed in this, in
- 43:34Speaker 3: this like preemptive preemptive investigations? Why did not anybody? Why
- 43:40Speaker 3: did not anybody get punished? There? Like why does why
- 43:43Speaker 3: is just one side?
- 43:45Speaker 1: You want them to punish themselves?
- 43:47Speaker 3: Yes, if a if a school, if a school hires
- 43:52Speaker 3: a coach that does something illegal like let's say recruiting
- 43:56Speaker 3: or something like that. Sure the school was complicit in that.
- 44:01Speaker 3: If if a complaint is brought to Major League Baseball,
- 44:06Speaker 3: major League Baseball is complicit in it if they are
- 44:09Speaker 3: only reactive and not proactive in it. But they just said, oh, well,
- 44:14Speaker 3: it's another it's another complaint that we're getting in. How
- 44:17Speaker 3: much did they investigate it where they didn't want to
- 44:20Speaker 3: rock the boat? Did they?
- 44:22Speaker 1: So?
- 44:23Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but MLB, I mean, yes, they should have
- 44:29Speaker 1: cracked down sooner on this, but they're not going to
- 44:31Speaker 1: like punish like, oh, we're going to suspend ourselves for
- 44:33Speaker 1: a year. Like they reacted too slow. There's no doubt
- 44:36Speaker 1: about that. But then I mean, also I just will
- 44:38Speaker 1: add Ashlers were hit with some money, damages whatever, they
- 44:42Speaker 1: were suspended or they lost some draft picks. That's real.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Jeff Lunau got in trouble. So there was some discipline.
- 44:48Speaker 1: It just wasn't what people were looking for. I think
- 44:50Speaker 1: the only thing people were going to be satisfied with
- 44:53Speaker 1: was if they actually said they are not the champs.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Now.
- 44:56Speaker 1: I do think that the franchise took a reputation hit
- 45:00Speaker 1: where I still feel as if it's like them against
- 45:02Speaker 1: the world, Right, they're gonna have that for a long time.
- 45:05Speaker 1: The people still boo the Astros like there's almost no
- 45:08Speaker 1: one left from that team, and they'll still do like
- 45:11Speaker 1: the rookie, right, they'll still boo the rookie like cheetah.
- 45:15Speaker 1: It's like he wasn't on that team. That was so
- 45:18Speaker 1: long ago at this point it was what is it,
- 45:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty six? It was nine years ago. But that's
- 45:23Speaker 1: the thing. So I think it was very interesting to
- 45:25Speaker 1: hear Carlos Peltron talk about it. And I do give
- 45:28Speaker 1: him credit for talking about not just saying I'm not
- 45:30Speaker 1: touching it at all, right, like being a dude, and
- 45:32Speaker 1: actually most importantly too to sum this up, and I
- 45:35Speaker 1: think this is cool. He wants to manage again someday.
- 45:38Speaker 1: So hey, hey, krats hats, Actually you won't have one, Eric,
- 45:52Speaker 1: you're not going to wear a hat tomorrow? Confirmed, I'm not.
- 45:56Speaker 2: No, okay, no, you're wearing a suit tomorrow.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Maybe I got something that goes with the suit. Don't
- 46:03Speaker 3: don't don't sleep.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Actually, you're right, you can talk me into anything with
- 46:08Speaker 1: the tire game throughout all the rules wear suits to
- 46:12Speaker 1: wear it the way you want to wear it. At
- 46:14Speaker 1: the BBWA Awards galaic we'll be in New York City
- 46:16Speaker 1: tomorrow with all the superstars, and AJ will be up
- 46:22Speaker 1: on the big, big stage with all the superstars. We'll
- 46:26Speaker 1: be showing it to you. We're not just there to
- 46:28Speaker 1: do pre and post coverage. We're doing that, but we're
- 46:31Speaker 1: also showing the entire event. We did that last year
- 46:33Speaker 1: if you want to look back at how it appeared
- 46:36Speaker 1: on YouTube, we'll do it again for you. It's free
- 46:39Speaker 1: to watch, and it is the second time ever that
- 46:41Speaker 1: it is stream live. So we are looking forward to
- 46:44Speaker 1: it and we will grab as many guests as possible,
- 46:48Speaker 1: the ones who say yes, the nice ones, so it's
- 46:51Speaker 1: just luck and then we'll go over guestless next week.
- 46:54Speaker 1: It's going to be fun. Actually, I can give you
- 46:56Speaker 1: a couple teasers for guest lists. Of course, this weekend
- 46:59Speaker 1: is going to be a cool guest list. But I've
- 47:02Speaker 1: been going back and forth with Nolan Arnatto for the
- 47:04Speaker 1: last while now and it looks like we've got him
- 47:07Speaker 1: locked in for next week. I think we might get
- 47:11Speaker 1: a little Max Monsey action next week. So some good
- 47:14Speaker 1: names to chat with. We will see you on Saturday,
- 47:19Speaker 1: not Monday.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Saturday Live, Yes, enjoy the snow and get your snow on.
- 47:25Speaker 1: The Yellow one.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Snow won
- 47:30Speaker 2: H
