- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Not every field is worth plowing.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: You can have the best seed, the best tools, and the best intentions.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: But if the soil isn't ready, nothing will grow.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: In business and in life,
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: discernment saves us from wasting energy where it can't produce a return.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Today, our focus is Proverbs 23.9 because it's the 23rd day of the month.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: My desire is to help you connect biblical wisdom to everyday marketplace decisions,
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: allowing you to build relationships that outlast any transaction.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: We do our best to bring timeless biblical truth to the marketplace.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Where influence is real, Choices are constant and relationships matter more than results.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: So pour yourself a cup of coffee or water and whatever it is you drink and let's get started.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Today I'm sharing from Chapter 23 of Marketplace Proverbs Volume 3,
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Ego, Humility, and Partnership, the KPI that Matters the Most.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Quoting from Proverbs 23.9 from the ESV Translation,
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: You know, words are like seeds.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And when they're spoken with sincerity and wisdom and a desire to serve,
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: they can certainly grow into partnerships, innovation and solutions for that matter.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: But even the best seeds won't take root in hardened soil.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: During my last corporate assignment, I traveled nationwide with my team to meet customers.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Now, most customers welcomed our visits as opportunities to grow their business
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: and better serve their customers.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: The soil was generally fertile.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: But then there was a customer in Missouri.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Every conversation started with, quote, I hate this town.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: I hate this business.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I hate the internet.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And while I'm hating, I hate your brand, end quote.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: No matter what I offered, ideas, resources, solutions, it only made him more irritable.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: That day, Proverbs 23.9 came to life for me.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It really did.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It came alive for me.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: It wasn't an arrogance or name-calling.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: It was about discernment.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I realized and discerned that some soil just isn't ready for planting.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Now, in sales training, we're taught to persist, never quit, to chase the sales.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: My friend Ken Fuente often says there's a fine line between persistence and pest.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I agree with that.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: But sometimes the most professional and spiritual thing we can do is to move on.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Not every prospect is a future partner.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Not every relationship is meant to bloom.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And not every listener is ready to hear.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Ego is Remember earlier I said ego is, from a non-biblical perspective, ego is edging God out.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: So ego pushes us to prove ourselves, to win over the toughest critic, to fix the unfixable.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: But humility reminds us that our job is to plant seeds of service
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: to add significance, not force them to grow.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: The Missouri man, he didn't want a partnership.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: He just wanted a target, and I gave him my best.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I left politely and never returned.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: That freed my time and energy for customers who really wanted to grow.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Those customers became my celebrated relationships, the ones that still bear fruit today.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Discernment isn't rejection.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: It's stewardship.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: We can't make every seed grow.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: But we can choose where to plant.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: And over time, the right soil shows itself.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Until then, plant with purpose and walk away with peace when the seed falls on stone.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success code is compliments of Zig Ziglar.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Quote,
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: life is too short to spend your precious time trying to chase someone who wants
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: to live in gloom and doom.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Give them your best shot.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: But don't hang around long enough for their bad attitude to pull you down.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Today's action points are centric to planting where it matters.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Action point one, evaluate the soil.

- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Action point three, affirm your calling.

- 6:43SPEAKER_00: That's wise cultivation.
