- 2:26Speaker 4: I want to get to as well, but first I
- 2:28Speaker 4: want to talk about an event that's going to be
- 2:30Speaker 4: happening soon. I think it's one week from tomorrow. It's
- 2:32Speaker 4: called Prepped and Polished. All kinds of things going on
- 2:35Speaker 4: associated with this event in July the fifteenth from ten.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Is that is that the right date?
- 2:41Speaker 6: Well, it's the fourteen, fourteenth fifteen.
- 2:43Speaker 4: It's a two day event, all right. So I was
- 2:44Speaker 4: partially right, you were. It's the voice that you hear
- 2:47Speaker 4: is Andy Richardson. So again, this is a two day event.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Tendal two on the Mound on D Street in South
- 2:55Speaker 4: Charles and Eddy Richardson is with the Executive Director of
- 2:59Speaker 4: Workforce Devel a Board of Kanah County Correct do get
- 3:01Speaker 4: you tired?
- 3:02Speaker 2: All right?
- 3:02Speaker 4: Andy Richardson is here, all right, Good morning, Welcome to
- 3:05Speaker 4: the shiit In morning, Dave. Good to be here for
- 3:06Speaker 4: a while. Since you been here, yeah too long? Yeah, well,
- 3:09Speaker 4: welcome to our new home.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's beautiful, beautiful.
- 3:12Speaker 4: So let's tell us about this event. What's going on?
- 3:16Speaker 6: Every year, the Workforce program here in Kanawha County has
- 3:21Speaker 6: a program we call Prepped and Polished at Americans Americans
- 3:28Speaker 6: Job Center over on Leon Sullivan Way. We have a
- 3:31Speaker 6: number of different partners so to help people with barriers
- 3:35Speaker 6: to employment, if they need clothing or counseling, or have
- 3:41Speaker 6: veteran issues or whatever, we have services there. But next
- 3:46Speaker 6: week we're taking this type of program out into the
- 3:50Speaker 6: community and we'll be down in South Charleston And on Monday,
- 3:54Speaker 6: July fourteenth, Prepped and Polished will be occurring around the mound, right,
- 4:02Speaker 6: and you will have everything from resume building and mock
- 4:06Speaker 6: interviews to men's and women's haircuts and healthcare and things
- 4:10Speaker 6: like that. And then on Tuesday down at the Community
- 4:15Speaker 6: Center South Charleston again, now we'll have a speed hiring event,
- 4:22Speaker 6: so sort of like a speed dating event. I guess
- 4:24Speaker 6: where you go from station to station and talk to
- 4:27Speaker 6: people and there'll be some people that get some jobs.
- 4:31Speaker 6: But it's a way to take to the community the
- 4:33Speaker 6: opportunity for people to get cleaned up, get a good,
- 4:39Speaker 6: better resume, test drive their interviewing skills, all that on Monday,
- 4:47Speaker 6: and then on Tuesday it'll be an opportunity for employers
- 4:51Speaker 6: to hire.
- 4:51Speaker 4: So Monday's kind of like the as you said, it's
- 4:56Speaker 4: almost like the pregame show, right, you know, it's to
- 4:58Speaker 4: get people ready.
- 4:59Speaker 6: Yeah, when we call u this prepped and polished. We've
- 5:01Speaker 6: done it the past few years now. We've done it
- 5:05Speaker 6: in our offices up at Leon Sullivan Way. We've also
- 5:07Speaker 6: done it down in Saint Albans. This year, we're going
- 5:09Speaker 6: to do it in South Charleston. It's an annual event
- 5:12Speaker 6: and it's very well received and there'll be opportunities there
- 5:17Speaker 6: if you have to come and bring your children. There'll
- 5:20Speaker 6: be you know, bounce house and inflatables things like that
- 5:24Speaker 6: for them to do.
- 5:25Speaker 4: All right again with Andy Richardson about this two day
- 5:27Speaker 4: event in South Charleston, and Day one's going to be
- 5:29Speaker 4: there on the mound and then on Tuesday of next
- 5:33Speaker 4: week and we'll move over to the community center. Can
- 5:36Speaker 4: you give us an idea of let's start with Monday
- 5:39Speaker 4: and the different things you mentioned haircuts and things of that. Mate,
- 5:42Speaker 4: you give us some other things going on on Monday.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Clothing with you know, some styling tips.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Which lord knows I could use that same.
- 5:53Speaker 6: Dental care, other healthcare services, manicures. We want people. There's
- 5:58Speaker 6: a reason we call it and polished because we want
- 6:02Speaker 6: you to be to look sharp, be sharp for your
- 6:06Speaker 6: job interviews on Tuesday. So that's an appearance thing, and
- 6:10Speaker 6: it's also resume building. It's also mock interviews, so you're
- 6:15Speaker 6: going to get a little bit of both of those
- 6:17Speaker 6: types of skills and personal presentation improvements on Monday, so
- 6:25Speaker 6: that on Tuesday when you go in and start talking
- 6:28Speaker 6: to potential employers, you're looking sharp.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Ready to go. Who's just designed for as far as
- 6:36Speaker 4: the potential job seekers, who ideally are you looking for,
- 6:40Speaker 4: well a hard.
- 6:42Speaker 6: To serve population, it's I mean, well, first of all, anybody, right,
- 6:47Speaker 6: but some of these soft skill and preparation activities on
- 6:55Speaker 6: Monday are probably more for people who haven't been into
- 6:59Speaker 6: the job mark or haven't known how to search for
- 7:02Speaker 6: work well and have become discouraged. Maybe they've had you know,
- 7:07Speaker 6: issues with addiction or other ancillary problems in life with
- 7:12Speaker 6: homelessness or or you know, chronic unemployment whatever, and so
- 7:22Speaker 6: this is a hard to serve population. But on the
- 7:26Speaker 6: other hand, anyone can go and have an opportunity to
- 7:31Speaker 6: participate and get cleaned up and maybe get some clothes
- 7:35Speaker 6: that help them look better at an interview and things
- 7:38Speaker 6: like that.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Are there fees involved, No, this is all free, all free.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 6: And there'll be some vendors there that set up tents
- 7:44Speaker 6: and you know offer I said, vendors. Community services will
- 7:51Speaker 6: be a president that will you know, provide information things like.
- 7:54Speaker 4: That it's a nine to fifteen day violand showing five
- 7:57Speaker 4: any line brought to you in apart by your hometown
- 7:59Speaker 4: baseball achieved Charleston Dirty Birds often night tonight for the
- 8:02Speaker 4: Birds that begin a three game road series against Gastonia
- 8:04Speaker 4: tomorrow night, backing home this Friday night at gomart Ballpark.
- 8:07Speaker 4: For tickets, schedules, merchandise, gear promotions, and more, visit dirtybirds
- 8:11Speaker 4: baseball dot com. So if somebody wants to be a
- 8:17Speaker 4: I don't really use the term vendor, but somebody wants
- 8:20Speaker 4: to come in and do one of these services, not
- 8:21Speaker 4: them to do. I'm talking about hairstyling. Thing that do
- 8:24Speaker 4: you still need people to do? Is are you have
- 8:25Speaker 4: any any holds?
- 8:26Speaker 6: We're lining folks up. But if people want to participate,
- 8:29Speaker 6: they can call our office. It's three oh four three
- 8:32Speaker 6: four four five seven six zero, indicate that that's what
- 8:37Speaker 6: you're interested in talking about is prepped and polished, and
- 8:42Speaker 6: you can well, our front desk will connect you with
- 8:46Speaker 6: one of the people that's involved in planning the event.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I would think it probably takes a lot of people
- 8:51Speaker 4: ady to pull this thing off.
- 8:53Speaker 6: You know, we're pretty efficient over there, but uh, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 6: it's you've got a steer, not row and get people
- 9:03Speaker 6: involved and bring them together. And Michael Austin to Mary
- 9:07Speaker 6: Lee really do a great job of kind of leading
- 9:10Speaker 6: this type of initiate initiative. So you're right, it does
- 9:15Speaker 6: take a lot of people. But it's actually almost like
- 9:18Speaker 6: they're conducting a band.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Okay, it's a good way to put it. Let's fast
- 9:23Speaker 4: forward to Tuesday now the event at the at the
- 9:25Speaker 4: South Charleston Community. So how many vendors or how many
- 9:28Speaker 4: employers potential employers to have approximately?
- 9:30Speaker 6: I do not have a number on how many will
- 9:32Speaker 6: be there, but we're still welcoming ocasional employers. Again, it's
- 9:37Speaker 6: three zero four three for four five seven six zero.
- 9:41Speaker 6: If you're interested in participating the speed hiring event, you'll
- 9:45Speaker 6: go in with the resume that you learn how to
- 9:47Speaker 6: prepare the day before. And you know, one of the
- 9:50Speaker 6: things we've got on Monday also is some legal services
- 9:55Speaker 6: like a driver license reinstatement, expungement, records, things like that.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Those types of things may be relevant for you on
- 10:05Speaker 6: Tuesday as well. So you go in on Tuesday and
- 10:09Speaker 6: you will literally go from station to station and present yourself.
- 10:14Speaker 6: You're you're you're selling yourself right in a job interview, uh,
- 10:19Speaker 6: And there will be people hired uh frequently sometimes it
- 10:23Speaker 6: happens right there on the spot. Sometimes they're they're callbacks,
- 10:27Speaker 6: things like that, right.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Yeah, And so again, if you're owner of a company,
- 10:32Speaker 4: manager of a company right now, and we all know
- 10:34Speaker 4: about workforce in West Virginia, I mean that our participation
- 10:39Speaker 4: is not as good as what it should be. But
- 10:40Speaker 4: sometimes there are barriers, as you mentioned, that keep people.
- 10:43Speaker 4: That's what we're doing this, and I guess the whole
- 10:45Speaker 4: idea behind this is to kind of strike down some
- 10:47Speaker 4: of those barriers, Andy.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Break down barriers and help people find their future.
- 10:52Speaker 4: And I mean we have major employers, smaller employers, a
- 10:55Speaker 4: little bit of everything there, right, that's right, yes, uh.
- 10:59Speaker 4: And again the number if because I know a lot
- 11:00Speaker 4: of business owners may be listening right now. They may say, well,
- 11:03Speaker 4: I definitely got to get there.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Three zero four three four four five seven six zero
- 11:10Speaker 6: and prepped and polished is the event. If you're interested
- 11:14Speaker 6: in being one of the employers with a speed hiring
- 11:19Speaker 6: on July fifteen at the South Charleston Community Center, give
- 11:24Speaker 6: us a call three oh four, three four four five
- 11:27Speaker 6: seven six zero.
- 11:28Speaker 4: And I've got on my social media on Dave Allen
- 11:31Speaker 4: Radio you can go. And I've got for the flyer
- 11:33Speaker 4: that lesially sent me posted on the on the social
- 11:38Speaker 4: media there. Andy, it's always pleasure to have you on
- 11:40Speaker 4: the show man. Good luck with your event. Thanks man,
- 11:42Speaker 4: you had to see you. You'll have to let us
- 11:43Speaker 4: know how it goes. All right, we'll have you back on.

- 15:09Speaker 4: of all, do you want to mention thirteen News and
- 15:11Speaker 4: Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron and myself back at it again,
- 15:14Speaker 4: and with it being Monday, we'll introduce you to another
- 15:17Speaker 4: mayor from the great state of West Virginia. On mayor Monday,
- 15:20Speaker 4: the Mayor of Clarksburg will be on the show with
- 15:22Speaker 4: us today. That's during the two o'clock hour with me
- 15:25Speaker 4: and of course Open Line West Virginia Metro News, Midday
- 15:27Speaker 4: thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron and me
- 15:30Speaker 4: coming up at noon today. Now on this show tomorrow,
- 15:33Speaker 4: the talk is going to continue about some of the
- 15:34Speaker 4: traffic issues in Cross Lanes had Delicate Andy Shamblin on
- 15:38Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago to talk about it, and well,
- 15:40Speaker 4: since then he's got some new info. So the delegate
- 15:43Speaker 4: is going to join us on the show tomorrow. Also,
- 15:45Speaker 4: if you haven't checked out the Let's Talk podcast with
- 15:48Speaker 4: Carl Lee, which we also put on the air as well,
- 15:51Speaker 4: you need to. It's Carl Lee, a former NFL star,
- 15:54Speaker 4: Marshall's standout South Charleston Black Eagle. Carl does a show
- 15:58Speaker 4: along with Hollis Lewis and Lisa Odie. One of the
- 16:00Speaker 4: hottest podcasts out there. One of the folks that's on
- 16:03Speaker 4: that's on that podcast, Lisa Odie, is going to join
- 16:05Speaker 4: us on the show coming up tomorrow. I've I've been
- 16:09Speaker 4: having former Charles to me or Danny Jones on the
- 16:11Speaker 4: show on Mondays from time to time. Danny is is
- 16:14Speaker 4: not feeling well. I'll talk to him yesterday and he
- 16:17Speaker 4: could probably use some cheering up with some health issues
- 16:19Speaker 4: he's got going on right now. So if you know Danny,
- 16:21Speaker 4: reach out to him, he could probably use it. I
- 16:23Speaker 4: hope to have him back on the show with me
- 16:25Speaker 4: sometime over the next couple of weeks. Last week on Midday,
- 16:30Speaker 4: we had the acting director of the West Virginia Lottery,
- 16:33Speaker 4: David Bradley, on the show. It was an interesting conversation
- 16:36Speaker 4: and one of the things that came out of it
- 16:38Speaker 4: there are not one, but two millionaires out there. Somewhere
- 16:42Speaker 4: in the Canal Valley. There were two separate million dollar
- 16:45Speaker 4: powerball tickets sold and no one has come forward to
- 16:49Speaker 4: claim the money. One ticket was sold at the Palmar
- 16:53Speaker 4: Store in downtown Hurricane, the other one at Marty Gracasino
- 16:56Speaker 4: and Resort. So if you bought a powerball ticket at
- 16:59Speaker 4: either one of those places, you may want to check
- 17:01Speaker 4: your tickets because you are a millionaire. Well actually two
- 17:04Speaker 4: of you are, so uh so go claim your tickets.
- 17:08Speaker 4: It's like it. I mean, here's the thing about it.
- 17:11Speaker 4: If I had I and I'm not a big lottery player,
- 17:13Speaker 4: but if I had I bought a powerball ticket at
- 17:15Speaker 4: one of those two locations and I heard that there
- 17:18Speaker 4: was a million dollar winner, I probably would have checked
- 17:21Speaker 4: my tickets. And if you don't claim it, it's going
- 17:24Speaker 4: to go back. I mean. And so somebody one of

- 18:14Speaker 4: Can you do a total eclipse of the harden force?
- 18:16Speaker 4: I mean you got to kind of get that. Bonnie Tyler.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Promise, Mom, I haven't had any cigarettes.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Well, the last couple days would be a good day
- 18:26Speaker 4: to start start for the stress relieving.
- 18:29Speaker 3: This is already my second cup, big cup of coffee.
- 18:33Speaker 3: I hardly I hate to call it a cup. It's
- 18:35Speaker 3: not a cup.
- 18:36Speaker 4: It's like a vact it's a bucket.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a bucket, a bucket of But all.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Right, so uh overall, and we'll break down things specifically.

- 19:08Speaker 3: Just letting you know, well, I will say I will
- 19:11Speaker 3: say this, and I will give all the all the
- 19:13Speaker 3: credit and all the praise. I wasn't the first one up.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I was up early. I'm an early riser as you
- 19:19Speaker 3: will know. But we had crews working all through the night.
- 19:23Speaker 3: That's not an exaggeration. And when I left this morning downtown,
- 19:30Speaker 3: I literally said, I'm going to do Dave's show and
- 19:32Speaker 3: I will be right back because people are frantically working
- 19:35Speaker 3: you out. It's kind of the equivalent of when you
- 19:39Speaker 3: decorate for the holidays. You know, I like to go
- 19:41Speaker 3: all out. All that is so beautiful and it's a
- 19:43Speaker 3: lot of work, but you enjoy it right because it's
- 19:45Speaker 3: going up and it's pretty and shiny and fresh, and
- 19:48Speaker 3: when you're taking it down, you're like, I'm exhausted. I
- 19:51Speaker 3: don't want to do this, but I cannot speak enough
- 19:56Speaker 3: and I'm not sure that there is another unique model. Dave.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Kind of the way that the Charleston's General Regatta model
- 20:03Speaker 3: is set up such amazing support from obviously the City
- 20:07Speaker 3: of Charleston. We run it, but with the Regatta Commission
- 20:11Speaker 3: advising us. We couldn't do this without the Kenaw County Commission.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I mean, it's so strange that you have to And
- 20:17Speaker 3: I say strange only is unique maybe is a better word?
- 20:20Speaker 3: Is that we have two county governments that are dialed
- 20:23Speaker 3: into this. When I first went to Ben and Silanga
- 20:25Speaker 3: and said, hey, if we're going to do this, and
- 20:27Speaker 3: especially especially things free for the kids. It was you
- 20:32Speaker 3: know him, been game on what you want. So it
- 20:37Speaker 3: has been absolutely incredible. Our city employees have worked and
- 20:41Speaker 3: remember this is a holiday. Everybody else has taken people
- 20:44Speaker 3: at pools with their kids and backyard barbecue or doing
- 20:48Speaker 3: the Honeydeo list. Not our guys and gals full force.
- 20:51Speaker 3: We take a lot of pride in what we do, so,
- 20:54Speaker 3: as I love to say on stage, I'm one of
- 20:56Speaker 3: seven hundred and fifty employees, I won't you know, I'm
- 21:00Speaker 3: not going to do I'm not going to ask you
- 21:01Speaker 3: to do something that I won't do. I'll do exactly
- 21:03Speaker 3: the same. But you know, I just left Andrew, who
- 21:07Speaker 3: you know is my right hand, uh, and he was
- 21:12Speaker 3: unstringing party lights and putting them strategically back in boxes
- 21:16Speaker 3: and helping with inventory. And so I'm really I'm so
- 21:19Speaker 3: incredibly proud to be part of this city team. But
- 21:22Speaker 3: please know there's an entire pack team that are you know,
- 21:26Speaker 3: working on picking up garbage this morning, we're doing milling
- 21:29Speaker 3: and paving this morning. We've got a city council tonight.
- 21:33Speaker 3: We've got six o'clock finance.
- 21:34Speaker 11: We can hear.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Hey how about chair and evening meeting. But anyway, No,
- 21:41Speaker 3: it's work continues, and by the way, work continues through
- 21:45Speaker 3: the regatta. This isn't something that we just do kind
- 21:48Speaker 3: of you know, it's it's obviously all hands on deck,
- 21:51Speaker 3: but we are We have a talented team. We can
- 21:54Speaker 3: walk and chew gum at the same time. But our
- 21:56Speaker 3: sponsors and folks who are volunteers who help make it happen.
- 22:00Speaker 3: It was an incredible four days. Mother Nature, I want
- 22:04Speaker 3: to say she was super kind to us. It was very,
- 22:07Speaker 3: very warm, and it is It is challenging, especially when
- 22:12Speaker 3: you have littles. So we had a lot of water activities,
- 22:15Speaker 3: a lot of cooling stations, and that will continue for
- 22:18Speaker 3: years to come. But the stern Wheelers had a great time.
- 22:21Speaker 3: And you know, this is year four. Next year is
- 22:24Speaker 3: year five. And to say that, we already started talking
- 22:27Speaker 3: about as we were, you know, thank you for coming.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Thank you. It was like thanks, you know, you're kissing
- 22:32Speaker 3: and waving at everybody leaving the driveway last night, that's
- 22:35Speaker 3: what we were doing. I was sitting there with our
- 22:38Speaker 3: chief of staff, Matthew Sutton, who you know well, Dave,
- 22:40Speaker 3: and already saying this and this, we do this, how
- 22:45Speaker 3: about we think about doing this because next year is
- 22:47Speaker 3: year five of bringing it back, and it's our nation's
- 22:51Speaker 3: you know, big birthday, so we have a lot to
- 22:53Speaker 3: think about for next year already.
- 22:56Speaker 4: So you want to go ahead and go I know
- 22:58Speaker 4: the answer to this, but you want to go ahead
- 22:59Speaker 4: and go on the record, are saying there will be
- 23:01Speaker 4: a year five?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Oh?
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely, I mean there's no there is no question it.
- 23:05Speaker 3: If you couldn't have come down any of the days
- 23:08Speaker 3: and not seen huge crowds, huge, huge crowds. This was
- 23:14Speaker 3: a you know when people say I don't know if
- 23:16Speaker 3: we should, it's it's you know, it's not. It's not
- 23:18Speaker 3: my opinion, it's a fact. I mean it's not. It's
- 23:21Speaker 3: not because I would like to have it. It is
- 23:23Speaker 3: because we heard from the people and they have spoken.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I'll say this to you, and it's not just Charleston residence.
- 23:31Speaker 3: One of the best stories happened as I was, you know,
- 23:34Speaker 3: waving it, thanks for coming, thanks for coming. This woman
- 23:37Speaker 3: who had this awesome big hat and she and her
- 23:40Speaker 3: friend had their chairs from the Jefferson starship who killed
- 23:44Speaker 3: it last night. They were so incredibly good and they're
- 23:46Speaker 3: walking and I said, oh my gosh, I love your
- 23:49Speaker 3: I love your straw hat. I wore a straw hat
- 23:51Speaker 3: most of yesterday because the sun was so hot. My
- 23:53Speaker 3: sister said, I looked like Nick Saban, but whatever, it
- 23:55Speaker 3: didn't matter. I think I look like a good Nick Saban.
- 23:58Speaker 3: And I said I love your hat and she said, oh,
- 24:00Speaker 3: thank you so much. I said, you have a great time.
- 24:02Speaker 3: She said, yes, this is my best girlfriend. We live
- 24:05Speaker 3: in Mingo County. Every year for the past four years
- 24:08Speaker 3: we've come up. We stay at the Embassy suites. We
- 24:10Speaker 3: stay three days. We had such a great time. We're
- 24:13Speaker 3: going to have brunch in the morning and we're going
- 24:15Speaker 3: to go back home. I mean, I feel and seen.
- 24:20Speaker 3: It was just the most perfect thing to say. And
- 24:24Speaker 3: even as exhausted as we were, Audrey was standing there,
- 24:26Speaker 3: and Andrew was standing there in Teena Atricia and Matthew
- 24:28Speaker 3: and Ben and we all just kind of perked up
- 24:31Speaker 3: a little bit because it is an exhausting venture. I
- 24:36Speaker 3: hit every single event and it is an exhausting venture.
- 24:40Speaker 3: But when you hear something like that, you go, oh this, yeah,
- 24:43Speaker 3: that's why we do this. And yes, mother nature was
- 24:47Speaker 3: very warm, and I think it probably while there was
- 24:50Speaker 3: no rain, and everybody said yes, this will be the
- 24:52Speaker 3: best year ever. I think Mother and Nature. The heat
- 24:55Speaker 3: was really really taxing on a lot of people. People
- 24:58Speaker 3: came out later, and so we're just gonna have to
- 25:01Speaker 3: always try to navigate what that looks like. The car
- 25:04Speaker 3: show was just incredible this year, the amount of cars,
- 25:08Speaker 3: more cars, beautiful cars. And so every every single year
- 25:13Speaker 3: we're gonna have to tweak what we do. But I
- 25:14Speaker 3: can promise you this. We're already starting to think about
- 25:17Speaker 3: year five and our big nation's birthday, like what are
- 25:20Speaker 3: we going to do and how can we do it?
- 25:22Speaker 3: And you know, entertain by the way, you know entertainment
- 25:24Speaker 3: better than I do, Dave. I only have four years
- 25:27Speaker 3: of experience of trying to understand the madness and I'm
- 25:30Speaker 3: learning through folks like Patrick leahey at Matthew. But you know,
- 25:35Speaker 3: it's always a challenge too. The weekend that we have
- 25:37Speaker 3: it works for our community, but it doesn't always work
- 25:40Speaker 3: for artists. Right, it's a holiday. Sometimes artists don't work
- 25:43Speaker 3: on holidays. Sometimes artists are already booked on these holidays.
- 25:46Speaker 3: And it's an open ticket, which means these folks aren't
- 25:50Speaker 3: getting a cut of the ticket sales because it's free.
- 25:53Speaker 3: It's always going to stay free, by the way, free, free, free, free.
- 25:56Speaker 3: You want to come and see them, It's going to
- 25:57Speaker 3: be free. So it's going to be a lot more
- 26:01Speaker 3: planning and a lot more preparation, a lot more attention
- 26:03Speaker 3: to detail. But I cannot thank people enough for being
- 26:07Speaker 3: so incredibly wonderful.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Talking to Charleston Mayor Amy Shulder a good one to

- 26:25Speaker 4: Text says, Hey, Dave, Creuton's parents here. Do you know
- 26:28Speaker 4: the story of crouton? I'll get I'll tell you a minute.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Cruton's parents here. We're happy to meet Mayor Amy. Last
- 26:33Speaker 4: night at the concert, thanked her for bringing the regatta back.
- 26:36Speaker 4: We had a great time and the music was awesome.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Crewton Okay, so you know on Friday, I do the
- 26:40Speaker 4: segment the adopt you adopt me, please spend the week?
- 26:43Speaker 4: All right? A few years ago we had this incredible
- 26:47Speaker 4: dog whose name was Crouton.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Okay, I love that name, this.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Family, and I've gotten to meet them, adopted Crewton. Follow
- 26:56Speaker 4: it on social media. It's called Chronicles of Creuton. I
- 26:58Speaker 4: think it is this dog and he's like the best
- 27:02Speaker 4: dog ever and uh and he's my big success story.
- 27:05Speaker 4: They actually brought Creuton to see me when I love it.
- 27:09Speaker 4: I was m seeing the food truck festival in Eleanor
- 27:12Speaker 4: a couple of years ago.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I love that they refer to themselves as Crutons Crejohn's parents.
- 27:16Speaker 3: I say it often, I'm because I still get called it.
- 27:20Speaker 3: And I did, by the way, I did this weekend.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Hi Joe's mom. Yes, and that's okay. I love it.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I'm Cruton's mom.
- 27:27Speaker 4: But we do appreciate it.
- 27:29Speaker 3: So thank you, so very much. It is so wonderful
- 27:32Speaker 3: and it's so humbling, and it sounds so bumper stick irish.
- 27:35Speaker 3: But if you if anybody knows me, you know I
- 27:38Speaker 3: really really mean this. I love being around people. I
- 27:41Speaker 3: love hearing from people. Oh, by the way, and it's
- 27:44Speaker 3: not just oh, you're so great, this is so great.
- 27:47Speaker 3: We love the regatta. There's somebody who came up to
- 27:49Speaker 3: me last night and said, hey, why did you put
- 27:51Speaker 3: the potties over here and not here? And I said,
- 27:53Speaker 3: we had to make a last minute change. You know what,
- 27:55Speaker 3: You're right, We're wrong. They should be over here and
- 27:57Speaker 3: said here, thank you. I appreciate this. I want to
- 28:01Speaker 3: hear from you, even if you've got a critique a
- 28:04Speaker 3: I'm upset. And I also said to them, Dave, because
- 28:07Speaker 3: you know this, thank you being so kind. Thank you
- 28:11Speaker 3: for being so kind and saying to me, hey, I
- 28:14Speaker 3: have a suggestion next year, could you put more potties
- 28:16Speaker 3: this way than this way? Bingo done, I'm on it.
- 28:20Speaker 3: We don't always get it right, you know, as I
- 28:22Speaker 3: love to say, we make a thousand mistakes a day.
- 28:25Speaker 3: That's cool because we do try different things. But if
- 28:28Speaker 3: you feel like we need to improve in somewhere or
- 28:31Speaker 3: you know, suggestions, heaven Stabetsi's know, when you have one
- 28:36Speaker 3: of the state's largest festivals, one of the region's largest
- 28:39Speaker 3: fairs and festivals, there's always room for improvement. And I
- 28:42Speaker 3: actually mean I want to hear from you. Mayor's office
- 28:46Speaker 3: at City off Charleston dot org. Please please please, so.
- 28:50Speaker 4: A couple of things I do have to ask you
- 28:52Speaker 4: about Buster rhymes. Yeah, little criticism of mister Rhymes called
- 29:00Speaker 4: mister Busta. But yeah, sure, mister Busta. Uh for maybe
- 29:03Speaker 4: some language. Uh yeah, it's Buster rhymes though. Yeah, I mean, yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 4: it's it's it's Buster rhymes and yeah. Uh and also
- 29:11Speaker 4: apparently not knowing where he.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Was that always runs. You know, my hair goes up
- 29:16Speaker 3: on the back of my neck when someone does. When
- 29:20Speaker 3: someone does that, I will say this, Uh. It was
- 29:23Speaker 3: one of the largest crowds that we had. I feel like, honestly,
- 29:27Speaker 3: I'll be honest with you, and I always take my
- 29:29Speaker 3: cues from the people in the age group that I
- 29:31Speaker 3: don't know his music, but my you know, my kids do,
- 29:35Speaker 3: and the younger old they loved it. They loved the
- 29:38Speaker 3: DJ guy. Yeah, that was the feedback that I got.
- 29:42Speaker 3: H But yeah, sure, I I will say I appreciate
- 29:46Speaker 3: the detector textures comments. But Jefferson Starship came in last
- 29:53Speaker 3: night and said we're in the best Virginia, West Virginia,
- 29:58Speaker 3: and the crowd went banana us.
- 30:01Speaker 4: So so take that Buster on.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I look, I can't disagree with it.
- 30:07Speaker 3: I'll be honest, I can't disagree.
- 30:08Speaker 4: It's an it's an easy mistake. And I'll tell you
- 30:11Speaker 4: a story from the nineteen eighties. Brian Adams came in
- 30:16Speaker 4: concert to the Coliseum a convention center and said, it's
- 30:18Speaker 4: great to be here in Huntington. Uh here it does it?
- 30:22Speaker 11: Does?
- 30:23Speaker 2: It?
- 30:23Speaker 4: Does happen?
- 30:24Speaker 3: And yeah, right and so and again, you know, the
- 30:28Speaker 3: team from Jefferson on the on the stage with Brian
- 30:31Speaker 3: Hughes and we were kind of again off to the side,
- 30:34Speaker 3: already tweaking for next year, and the Jefferson Starship team
- 30:37Speaker 3: came up on stage and I said, thank you so
- 30:39Speaker 3: much for being here. We absolutely love having you here
- 30:42Speaker 3: in the capital city. And they all said to me,
- 30:44Speaker 3: we are so happy to be here. Thank you so much.
- 30:47Speaker 3: They travel all the time. I cannot imagine if you
- 30:50Speaker 3: asked me where are you today, Amy, I'd go, I'm
- 30:54Speaker 3: happy to be here. Where am I? I've been to
- 30:56Speaker 3: this story a bazillion times. Yeah, I'm not making excuses
- 31:00Speaker 3: except for the fact that when you're running nine ways
- 31:02Speaker 3: of Sunday sometimes you're thinking, oh my goodness, gracious, what
- 31:04Speaker 3: should I say? Where am I? What am I doing? Anyway?
- 31:07Speaker 3: I get you know, I guess so I will say
- 31:11Speaker 3: if you had to say what was what was your
- 31:13Speaker 3: favorite thing of the regatta? For me, it is always
- 31:17Speaker 3: the number of kids that come up. It's always been
- 31:21Speaker 3: my focus on kids and not I love the concerts.
- 31:25Speaker 3: To have a cold beer by the river, I'm down
- 31:27Speaker 3: with that. What I want is I want so many
- 31:31Speaker 3: great things to do for the kids and the kids
- 31:33Speaker 3: that came up, because you know, I do friendship bracelets.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I gave away a hundred. It was so fun. We
- 31:38Speaker 3: did cars, we did bracelets, we did sunglasses. We had
- 31:42Speaker 3: such a great celebration for the kids. That was probably
- 31:44Speaker 3: my very favorite. And Casey in the Sunshine.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Band did that was wrong about Casey and the time
- 31:49Speaker 4: you were spot on?
- 31:51Speaker 3: I didn't get it. But man O Day and he
- 31:55Speaker 3: was funny. Oh yeah, I mean he was funny and
- 31:57Speaker 3: fun and the dancers were unbelievab and their costumes.
- 32:01Speaker 4: It's a show. I mean, it's not just a show,
- 32:03Speaker 4: it's a full on show.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Me.
- 32:04Speaker 3: It was fun watching the dancers run off stage, come
- 32:08Speaker 3: back out put on these incredible costumes. That's what this
- 32:11Speaker 3: is about too, That's what I that's what I really like.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Plus I know all the lyrics, you know nine of
- 32:17Speaker 3: their songs, but you know, it is it is about
- 32:20Speaker 3: the money. And we thank every single vendor. And I
- 32:23Speaker 3: went to every vendor booth, I went to all of
- 32:24Speaker 3: the restaurants. You know, it's it is a it's an
- 32:29Speaker 3: incredible time for the city. And I'm just so thankful
- 32:32Speaker 3: also to the vendors who were exhausted, who were still
- 32:36Speaker 3: going with us at one and two in the morning.
- 32:38Speaker 3: You know, they put up their bright, shiny stuff and
- 32:40Speaker 3: then they have to take it all down. But I
- 32:42Speaker 3: talked to one of the vendors who sells great little
- 32:46Speaker 3: knick knacks and things, and and she said, I just
- 32:50Speaker 3: I love it so much. Can I come back? Can
- 32:52Speaker 3: I come? Can I come back? Yeah? Sure you can
- 32:54Speaker 3: come back.
- 32:55Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 3: We love having you because it's hard. It's hard work. Yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 3: it's hard work. You make you make good money, but buddy,
- 33:00Speaker 3: it's harder rock.
- 33:02Speaker 4: And one other thing before we go to break there
- 33:03Speaker 4: there because I have you know, we're talking positive. But
- 33:06Speaker 4: there was an incident yeah, and Charleston Police Department took
- 33:10Speaker 4: care of it quickly. Do you want to explain from
- 33:13Speaker 4: exactly what happened there? And by the way, kudos to
- 33:17Speaker 4: the Charleston Police Department for handling the situation.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, we were made aware of a disturbance involving
- 33:24Speaker 3: a firearm. It was on Courting Canal, while it was
- 33:27Speaker 3: inside the footprint of the regatta. They obtained secured these
- 33:32Speaker 3: individuals closer to downtown. Three individuals two were arrested, each
- 33:38Speaker 3: charged minor possession of firearm, possession of stolen firearm, and
- 33:43Speaker 3: so they're going to be prosecuted and we're going to
- 33:45Speaker 3: continue to investigate. I'll say this this is if there
- 33:49Speaker 3: is any positive about that negative situation, is that our
- 33:54Speaker 3: guys and gals man o' day within I'm going to
- 33:57Speaker 3: say ninety seconds, but I think really in fairness it
- 33:59Speaker 3: was probably two minutes they had them and had the
- 34:03Speaker 3: situation contained, and with tens and tens of thousands of people,
- 34:08Speaker 3: I'm really proud of the work. And nobody ever wants
- 34:12Speaker 3: any incident to happen at the regatta. But the only
- 34:16Speaker 3: incident that we really ever have is just overheating or
- 34:19Speaker 3: people sometimes have sugar issues or not eating enough or
- 34:22Speaker 3: that kind of thing. So it's certainly something that we
- 34:27Speaker 3: look at, are going to continue to investigate if there's
- 34:29Speaker 3: anything that we could have done differently, By golly, I
- 34:32Speaker 3: promise you we will do it, but I'm not sure.
- 34:35Speaker 4: That there is well and social media doesn't help.
- 34:38Speaker 3: But you know, I mean I think that, but people
- 34:41Speaker 3: also don't have the correct information. Somebody said there was
- 34:43Speaker 3: a twelve year old something.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Twelve year old.
- 34:49Speaker 3: No, absolutely not, absolutely not, And so you know, I
- 34:53Speaker 3: was talking to somebody also about a different issue who
- 34:55Speaker 3: was just going on and on and on. And everybody
- 34:58Speaker 3: deserves an opportunity to speak. It doesn't mean that the
- 35:01Speaker 3: information that you're providing when you're speaking is correct. And
- 35:04Speaker 3: what we try to do always do is I appreciate
- 35:06Speaker 3: everybody's opinions. By the way, I appreciate everybody's concerns. I'm
- 35:09Speaker 3: a mayor, but I'm a mother first, dave, and you
- 35:11Speaker 3: know that, and so I appreciate those concerns. But let's
- 35:15Speaker 3: just be factual about it. And sometimes you know this, heck,
- 35:17Speaker 3: you're in this when you don't have all of the information.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Sometimes we say we're still investigating, and that's not a blowoff.
- 35:24Speaker 3: That is to say, I'm not going to open my
- 35:26Speaker 3: mouth unless we know what's going on. And I feel
- 35:30Speaker 3: very confident because I get the opportunity and the pleasure
- 35:34Speaker 3: of working with our law enforcement every day. They crush
- 35:37Speaker 3: it and they care and oh, by the way, they're officers,
- 35:41Speaker 3: but they're also dads, and they're also moms and grandparents,
- 35:44Speaker 3: and they care just like you do. I promise you
- 35:47Speaker 3: they do.

- 38:21Speaker 4: here is the Regatta self sustaining and financial terms.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you so much for asking that. So we
- 38:27Speaker 3: just started this past year an investment account from the
- 38:33Speaker 3: profits that we have received, because that is all That's
- 38:36Speaker 3: always my major concern, you know, even though I'm currently
- 38:40Speaker 3: running again for my third term, and you know, I'd
- 38:43Speaker 3: like to be around just another term when I'm gone,
- 38:47Speaker 3: I want to make sure that the regatta continues. And
- 38:49Speaker 3: the only way that you really make sure the Regatta
- 38:50Speaker 3: continues is have it financially solvent. The reason why we're
- 38:54Speaker 3: able to do what we do and too the level
- 38:56Speaker 3: that we do it is because of sponsors. But thank
- 39:00Speaker 3: you for asking that question. We invest. We are investing.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Our the Regatta Board, the Regtta Commission, not the city
- 39:08Speaker 3: are doing that and so we're very excited that we've
- 39:11Speaker 3: been fruitful over the past couple of years. But when
- 39:14Speaker 3: we brought it back, I went back to look at
- 39:16Speaker 3: all of the records, the ones that we could find,
- 39:19Speaker 3: and that's what happened. It ballooned Dave from this, well,
- 39:25Speaker 3: you know, let's let's let's give props to Nelson Jones,
- 39:30Speaker 3: the little And when I say little guy, I mean
- 39:32Speaker 3: he was twelve when he started it and just wanted
- 39:36Speaker 3: to raise stern wheelers. And who would have known I
- 39:38Speaker 3: said that on stage the other night that would have
- 39:40Speaker 3: grown into this. But I think that there is a
- 39:43Speaker 3: Bigger doesn't always mean better, Longer doesn't always mean more success.
- 39:47Speaker 3: We're gonna take it to ten days, No, we're not.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I'm not. Because of the amount of incredible work and
- 39:54Speaker 3: money that has to be raised to do this, and
- 39:57Speaker 3: you could see the growth as they it's easy, folks.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Another day you add that's another expense. That's another expense,
- 40:07Speaker 3: and our goal is to make sure that it is solvent.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Here's the good news to the Texter. Yes we're investing,
- 40:15Speaker 3: and yes we're making sure that we have money, and
- 40:18Speaker 3: my goal is ultimately to have a foundation. But when
- 40:21Speaker 3: I was given the high fives and the thanks for coming,
- 40:24Speaker 3: every single one of our sponsors and especially and thank goodness,
- 40:28Speaker 3: most of our bigger sponsors said I'm back, thank you,
- 40:32Speaker 3: I'm back. This is great because I said to you, Dave,
- 40:35Speaker 3: my days are running together when we were together last
- 40:38Speaker 3: Monday Tuesday. I don't. Yes, but it is not just
- 40:43Speaker 3: an opportunity. I can't tell you how many people I
- 40:46Speaker 3: met at the regata. Hey, Amy, I wanted to introduce
- 40:49Speaker 3: you to doctor doctor so and so, who we are having.
- 40:55Speaker 3: He's just moving here with his new wife. They're still
- 40:58Speaker 3: staying in a hotel. But I wanted you to meet
- 41:00Speaker 3: them and say, this is their opportunity also to showcase
- 41:03Speaker 3: and to to court people that they want to have
- 41:08Speaker 3: here in our community as well or to say thank
- 41:11Speaker 3: you to their clients. There is one. I won't call
- 41:14Speaker 3: them out, but I think this is a wonderful thing
- 41:16Speaker 3: that they do. There's a big sponsor that we have
- 41:19Speaker 3: that says, yeah, we'll take a couple and they get
- 41:21Speaker 3: they get a lot of fun sponsorship tickets. Hey, we'll
- 41:25Speaker 3: take a couple to some of our you know, some
- 41:27Speaker 3: of our executives. But the meat potatoes of our our
- 41:30Speaker 3: tickets and things we want to give to our employees
- 41:33Speaker 3: to take their families, as you know, as a celebration,
- 41:37Speaker 3: as a reward for doing you know, job well done.
- 41:40Speaker 3: So there's a lot of really good things that people
- 41:44Speaker 3: will never see that happens in around the regatta. But
- 41:47Speaker 3: I am thankful to have that continued support for our sponsors.
- 41:51Speaker 4: From our sponsors, Tex says, love regatta, love Fourth of
- 41:54Speaker 4: July fireworks. More would be happier with one less band
- 41:57Speaker 4: and better July fourth fireworks.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate that. Well, here's this is what Matthew
- 42:02Speaker 3: Sutton and I say about fireworks all the time. You
- 42:04Speaker 3: either love them or you hate them. There ain't no
- 42:06Speaker 3: middle y'all, and a lot of people don't like them.
- 42:11Speaker 3: I will say I don't disagree with you, and I
- 42:13Speaker 3: appreciate that, and I'm not sure if it's a four
- 42:15Speaker 3: day or three day bands in one of big fireworks.
- 42:18Speaker 3: The most the feedback that I received late last night
- 42:24Speaker 3: and early this morning, thanks to all my girlfriends who
- 42:26Speaker 3: were texting me really early this morning, loved the drone show.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Loved it. It was absolutely incredible. It was hysterical, was funny.
- 42:33Speaker 3: It was fun if you were standing at Haddad, if
- 42:37Speaker 3: you went down to if you were on the other
- 42:39Speaker 3: side of Kennaw where a Kennel river where a lot
- 42:42Speaker 3: of people go by the way to watch fireworks, because
- 42:44Speaker 3: we're used to it. I'm not sure we did a
- 42:46Speaker 3: great job or a good enough job to let you know, Dave,
- 42:50Speaker 3: you probably shouldn't be down on that side of Cannan
- 42:53Speaker 3: Boulevard because the drone show is more picturesque right to
- 42:56Speaker 3: see it face on. And so I will give my
- 43:00Speaker 3: apologies about that for maybe not communicating as well as
- 43:03Speaker 3: we probably should have. But I think people really like
- 43:06Speaker 3: the firework and drone element. But I don't disagree with
- 43:09Speaker 3: the caller. I will say this to the text or
- 43:12Speaker 3: excuse me, Dave. Fireworks used to be used to be
- 43:16Speaker 3: eleven hundred dollars a minute. Used to be eleven hundred
- 43:20Speaker 3: dollars a minute, and so it's very, very expensive. I
- 43:25Speaker 3: don't know if I disagree that maybe it a shims,
- 43:28Speaker 3: you know, skim some off another pot and put it
- 43:31Speaker 3: into a firework pot. It's something that we've already talked about.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Love the drone show. People love the drone show, and
- 43:39Speaker 3: quite frankly, so did I.
- 43:40Speaker 4: I think. I don't know if it's going to happen
- 43:42Speaker 4: anytime soon, but I think eventually, as drunk and drones
- 43:45Speaker 4: are a relatively new thing as far as consumer that's right.
- 43:50Speaker 4: I can see at some point drone shows totally replacing fireworks.
- 43:53Speaker 4: I mean totally, which which should make a lot of
- 43:55Speaker 4: veterans and also pats happy.
- 43:58Speaker 3: There's no there's no question about it. I have a
- 44:00Speaker 3: lot of good a lot of good male friends, and
- 44:03Speaker 3: as a matter of fact, one I won't name names,
- 44:06Speaker 3: one gentleman who's a Vietnam VET, who said I love this.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Last night he came to listen to Jefferson Starship how
- 44:14Speaker 3: about this? Will this will make you sit back in
- 44:16Speaker 3: your chair? And he was there with his wife and
- 44:18Speaker 3: he said, I'm just trying to find a space where
- 44:19Speaker 3: I can kind of hear them really well. I don't
- 44:21Speaker 3: I don't want to do the steps. I don't want
- 44:22Speaker 3: to get down in all of that amy the crowd,
- 44:24Speaker 3: And I don't blame you. I just want to listen
- 44:27Speaker 3: to it. We used to, we used to listen to
- 44:30Speaker 3: this music to make ourselves feel better and to get
- 44:34Speaker 3: together and the sounds that you have this particular band.
- 44:38Speaker 3: And then after fireworks, he said, that's my kind of show,
- 44:42Speaker 3: No loud pops, no loud egs. And I said, well,
- 44:45Speaker 3: then you start want to come to Holly Jolly Brawley
- 44:47Speaker 3: because that's also a really cool drone show. So I
- 44:51Speaker 3: think there are pros and cons to each of them.
- 44:53Speaker 3: By the way, drone shows are not less expensive. Let
- 44:55Speaker 3: me just go ahead and throw that out as well.

- 47:46Speaker 4: good on us here. We can sort of answered this

- 47:50Speaker 4: we're got to ever go back to its glory days
- 47:52Speaker 4: of ten days quickly?
- 47:53Speaker 3: Well not with me, as mayor, is just we can
- 47:56Speaker 3: do it. We would kill our city employees and I'm
- 47:58Speaker 3: not going to do that to our employees.
- 48:00Speaker 4: Texas. How about a page on the city's page specifically
- 48:02Speaker 4: for people to submit their suggestions for such things as
- 48:05Speaker 4: musical acts for future regatta.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, yep, and you can. By the way, you
- 48:10Speaker 3: can do that anyways, just email me.
- 48:11Speaker 4: All right, there you go. Any chance as a texture
- 48:14Speaker 4: that the library books sale and the taste of Charleston
- 48:17Speaker 4: can be brought back to the Coliseum as regatta events.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know. Maybe somebody pitched me yesterday during
- 48:24Speaker 3: the car shows when I was walking down there, like,
- 48:26Speaker 3: why don't we do a chili thing down there as well?
- 48:29Speaker 3: Adding events just adds more expense. I'll just go ahead
- 48:32Speaker 3: and say that. But lots of things to see and
- 48:35Speaker 3: do is a number one travel motivator. We want people
- 48:37Speaker 3: to get down there and do lots of different things.
- 48:39Speaker 4: All right, Possibly what about a regatta yard sale on
- 48:43Speaker 4: Saturday morning along the boulevard for future regattas.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Uh, maybe get people downtown moving? Yeah? Can I bring
- 48:51Speaker 3: my Can I bring my stuff to their house?
- 48:53Speaker 4: Okay? I told you that they were all positive. Here
- 48:56Speaker 4: here's a negative one. Now, No, it's okay, it's okay,
- 48:58Speaker 4: that's fine, we'll take it. One of the things I
- 49:00Speaker 4: like about I'll take it is that you come in
- 49:03Speaker 4: and you do this. Did the mayor upset the governor
- 49:05Speaker 4: or someone at the Department of Highways because the grass
- 49:07Speaker 4: areas the state maintains in the city were pretty tall
- 49:11Speaker 4: considering all the people coming into Charleston for the regatta. Well,
- 49:13Speaker 4: so really that wasn't against you.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Now. But let me go ahead and say this, but
- 49:18Speaker 3: there's tall grass in the city, and you want to
- 49:19Speaker 3: know why. Before the regatta it poured down the rain.
- 49:22Speaker 3: It poured down the rain. We're behind, by the way,
- 49:25Speaker 3: and if we're behind, I bet you dollars to doughnuts day.
- 49:28Speaker 3: This state is behind because of mother Nature. She's been
- 49:31Speaker 3: kind of she's been very temperamental lately. Lots of rain
- 49:35Speaker 3: then ninety seven degrees, lots of rain ninety eight degrees.
- 49:37Speaker 4: So they're asking what the texture was, asking here was
- 49:39Speaker 4: about the state?
- 49:40Speaker 6: It really was.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Yeah, But still I appreciate that, and I appreciate their frustration.
- 49:45Speaker 3: I have that frustration too, But honestly, I can't send
- 49:48Speaker 3: my guys out when we have, you know, the winds
- 49:51Speaker 3: that we had in some of the rain to go
- 49:52Speaker 3: cut and it grows fast, all right.
- 49:54Speaker 4: So let's get away from regatta in the final two
- 49:57Speaker 4: minutes and TJ set behind the micro because he wants
- 49:59Speaker 4: to talk or something good. So let's let's talk about
- 50:04Speaker 4: let's talk about future things, what's going on in Charleston.
- 50:07Speaker 4: But God is behind us now, I mean not for
- 50:08Speaker 4: you guys, it's not. But TBT would be the next.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Big thing right, Yeah, I mean tbt's coming up. We're
- 50:14Speaker 3: really excited about that. But this is what let me focus,
- 50:18Speaker 3: or let me narrow it very quickly. Municipal government is
- 50:21Speaker 3: the government that I believe works were boots on the ground.
- 50:25Speaker 3: You know what I'm focused on. I'm focused on paving.
- 50:27Speaker 3: I'm focused on improving our parks. I'm focused on making
- 50:31Speaker 3: sure that we look at economic development opportunities in creation
- 50:34Speaker 3: of job growth. As a matter of fact, one of
- 50:37Speaker 3: our dear friends, Dave just said, I see the growth
- 50:39Speaker 3: downtown because I see cranes coming in. That's my focus.
- 50:42Speaker 3: All of these events are really good and I absolutely
- 50:45Speaker 3: love them, and we're planning bigger and better as we
- 50:47Speaker 3: not bigger better as we continue to move forward. But
- 50:51Speaker 3: investment in critical infrastructure is the way that we really
- 50:55Speaker 3: grow a city. These are the things that capture people
- 50:57Speaker 3: here and it just quality of life. But my focus
- 51:00Speaker 3: is always going to be on infrastructure.
- 51:02Speaker 2: All right.
- 51:02Speaker 4: To talk about some of this development downtown, we see
- 51:04Speaker 4: the cranes.
- 51:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you see DC and I think what they're talking
- 51:08Speaker 3: about in two big cranes right now. I'm sorry for
- 51:10Speaker 3: some of the slow traffic, but TC energy and then
- 51:13Speaker 3: of course Poka Valley Bank, but nobody has brought it
- 51:16Speaker 3: up in a couple of weeks. But please please always
- 51:19Speaker 3: know this. I am center focused on the mall, the
- 51:24Speaker 3: property that surrounds them all, and the development of those
- 51:27Speaker 3: nine and a half to ten acres that are critical
- 51:30Speaker 3: flat pieces of property in downtown, in the heart of
- 51:33Speaker 3: our city. And I want folks to know that I
- 51:36Speaker 3: am not distracted by musical acts and ferris wheel rides.
- 51:41Speaker 3: That is always going to be my focus as it
- 51:43Speaker 3: is today well.
- 51:44Speaker 4: And one of the great things about having musical acts
- 51:46Speaker 4: and the ferris wheels is that it brings people to
- 51:50Speaker 4: town who spend money.
- 51:51Speaker 3: That's exactly right. That's exactly right. It's just one of
- 51:55Speaker 3: many things. But thanks for having me, Dave always and
- 51:57Speaker 3: thanks to your show, and thanks to your team. You
- 51:59Speaker 3: guys may get really easy to get information out. And
- 52:01Speaker 3: I really appreciate it, all.
- 52:02Speaker 4: Right, Charles Mary Amy Schulder a good one. I appreciate
- 52:04Speaker 4: it out. I know you got counsel night, but try
- 52:06Speaker 4: to wrest a little bit.
- 52:07Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 52:07Speaker 3: I will, all right, thank you.
- 52:08Speaker 4: Brian Hughes was looking pretty I didn't text him. He
- 52:10Speaker 4: was looking pretty toasted this morning on television because he
- 52:13Speaker 4: was all red, but you're not quite as red. You're
- 52:15Speaker 4: more hallowey.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Thank you. He appreciate it. I'm telling me so that
- 52:18Speaker 3: all right.
- 52:18Speaker 4: That's fine, all right, Mayor. I appreciate it. TJ. What
- 52:21Speaker 4: you got for I have nothing to say, Okay.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Coming up on the show, we have Kelly Allen, executive
- 52:28Speaker 1: director of the Center for Budget Policy, on the Big
- 52:31Speaker 1: Beautiful Bill.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Jared Halprin from DC second District Congressman Riley Moore at
- 52:35Speaker 4: the eleven o six. All right, I'll be back tomorrow
- 52:38Speaker 4: on the local show, Delicate Andy Shamblin, he's here. We
- 52:40Speaker 4: got an update on the Cross Lanes traffic situation, so
- 52:43Speaker 4: we'll talk to Delicate shambled about that. And Lisa Odie
- 52:46Speaker 4: from the Let's Talk podcast is on the show to
- 52:48Speaker 4: mar as well. See you later today. I'll Metro News
- 52:50Speaker 4: midday till then. Have fun and love somebody.
- 53:00Speaker 2: H W C H S A M. Six point five.
- 53:05Speaker 2: That's on Charleston one oh four point five Cross Lane
