Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's Phil Henry.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Welcome to another Radio Archive Hour from November of 2001.
- 0:04Speaker 2: And it's kind of interesting because what happened in September
- 0:08Speaker 2: of 2001, well, we all know, and yet we, and
- 0:12Speaker 2: there was a period there where I didn't think we
- 0:13Speaker 2: were going to be able to do comedy anymore. I'm
- 0:15Speaker 2: just being very honest with you. The country was so depressed.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Everybody was just so, you know, down. I was wondering
- 0:22Speaker 2: whether we'd have a show for the next several months,
- 0:25Speaker 2: but we did. We just kept on Plowing away, and
- 0:27Speaker 2: here's one from November, Austin Amarca, and we are even
- 0:30Speaker 2: making fun of Santa Claus in this one, where Austin
- 0:32Speaker 2: Amarca is a mall Santa, and he says he has
- 0:34Speaker 2: no regrets about promising the kids everything they want, whatever
- 0:39Speaker 2: they want.
- 0:39Speaker 1: He says, yes, you'll get it.
- 0:42Speaker 2: And as you know, we inaugurated a feature last week
- 0:44Speaker 2: on our show, Santa of the Week. This is the
- 0:46Speaker 2: time of year where, you know, people will be working
- 0:49Speaker 2: with Santa Clauses in malls all over the.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Country, and we want to isolate.
- 0:53Speaker 2: We want to find a Santa, a man or a
- 0:55Speaker 2: woman who plays Santa, and enjoys the work, and is
- 1:00Speaker 2: more than just a department store or a mall employee,
- 1:02Speaker 2: but someone who is very, very much involved in their
- 1:05Speaker 2: work and is almost as manic about it. I don't
- 1:07Speaker 2: want to say manic, but is almost as interesting and
- 1:09Speaker 2: as committed as that Santa Claus in Miracle on 34th Street.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And we found our Santa at the Mountain Gate Mall
- 1:17Speaker 2: in Rockland, California.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Mr.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Austin Amarka is going to join us. He's also at
- 1:22Speaker 2: his second job over.
- 1:23Speaker 1: There at the uh.
- 1:25Speaker 2: cutler restaurant in rockland and uh... mister mark i want
- 1:27Speaker 2: to thank you for joining us and thank you for uh...
- 1:30Speaker 2: being on our show and also congratulations on being the uh.
- 1:33Speaker 1: said of the.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Week well i'm i'm very very much uh... grateful for
- 1:37Speaker 3: the order thank.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You you're a you're a great santa claus we heard
- 1:41Speaker 2: this from kids we heard this from from parents maybe
- 1:45Speaker 2: not so much the parents but the kids tell us
- 1:47Speaker 2: about uh... how it is that you're a that you're
- 1:49Speaker 2: a santa claus and you're so good.
- 1:50Speaker 3: At your job well i i love kids I love Christmas.
- 1:55Speaker 3: You mentioned Miracle on 34th Street. I love that movie.
- 1:59Speaker 3: It's one of my favorite movies.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Well, you were brought to my attention as being Santa
- 2:03Speaker 2: of the Week on the Phil Henry Show as part
- 2:05Speaker 2: of our Christmas tradition.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And what makes you popular with the kids?
- 2:10Speaker 3: I like kids. I take kids very seriously, and I
- 2:13Speaker 3: listen to them. And you're getting into an area now
- 2:16Speaker 3: that is of particular interest to me. Children, I listen
- 2:20Speaker 3: to them. They tell me what they want. I also
- 2:22Speaker 3: have a great memory for things they say and for
- 2:25Speaker 3: their faces and so on. So I sit them on
- 2:27Speaker 3: my knee, and I hear what they've got to say.
- 2:31Speaker 3: And I think that's the first most important. I think
- 2:33Speaker 3: there's two things you've got to do. You've got to
- 2:35Speaker 3: listen to a kid, and then you've got to follow through.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Because a kid will always remember when you let them down.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And so all I ask them as a Santa Claus
- 2:48Speaker 3: is they'll sit in my lap, and I'll say to them,
- 2:52Speaker 3: Were you good during this year? And before you answer
- 2:55Speaker 3: that question, I want you to think about it. So
- 2:57Speaker 3: I'll look them square in the eye and I'll say,
- 2:59Speaker 3: were you good this year or were you not? And
- 3:04Speaker 3: nine times out of ten, the kid will say, yes,
- 3:06Speaker 3: they were.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Well, every kid's going to say that, aren't they?
- 3:09Speaker 3: Let me tell you something, Sunshine. A child is the
- 3:13Speaker 3: most honest thing there is. I have a sort of
- 3:15Speaker 3: kinetic energy with a child. And a kid will not lie.
- 3:20Speaker 3: You know, yeah, most will say they're good sometimes, but
- 3:22Speaker 3: I look them right in the eye and I say,
- 3:24Speaker 3: were you a good little kid? And they'll say, yes,
- 3:28Speaker 3: I was. I'll tell you what, that's good enough for me.
- 3:30Speaker 3: And I tell them, you wait for Christmas.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So you say to the children, yes.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Look, sunshine, what I say to them is, I say,
- 3:41Speaker 3: what do you want for Christmas? They tell me all
- 3:43Speaker 3: kinds of stuff they want. Then I say, and I'm
- 3:46Speaker 3: going to ask you a question. And I want you
- 3:48Speaker 3: to think long and hard before you answer this question
- 3:52Speaker 3: because a lot rides on it. And all I ask
- 3:56Speaker 3: is you tell me the truth because you and I
- 3:59Speaker 3: aren't going to have any problem at all if you
- 4:01Speaker 3: tell me the truth. Now, you listen to me and
- 4:04Speaker 3: you listen good. And sometimes the kids are nervous and
- 4:07Speaker 3: they're squirming around in your lap and you'll grab them
- 4:09Speaker 3: by the shoulders and you'll say, do you listen to me?
- 4:13Speaker 3: And I'll say, were you a good little kid or
- 4:14Speaker 3: were you not? They'll say, yes, I was.
- 4:20Speaker 2: All right, so you have a situation where the kids
- 4:25Speaker 2: will tell you the truth.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Yes, they'll tell me the truth, but I ran into
- 4:28Speaker 3: a problem. One year this boy came to me. I
- 4:31Speaker 3: was in the food court having some fries and a Coca-Cola,
- 4:34Speaker 3: and I recognized him. And he was calling me every
- 4:38Speaker 3: bad name that there is. He called me an MF.
- 4:41Speaker 3: He called me an F. He called me a F-head.
- 4:45Speaker 3: He called me a dirty F-head. I'll never forget this.
- 4:48Speaker 3: And I said, what is wrong with you? And let
- 4:51Speaker 3: me tell you something, sunshine. Let me tell you something, sunshine.
- 4:54Speaker 3: That language did not sit good with me.
- 4:57Speaker 1: This child is cursing at you.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yes, sir. I said, what went wrong? He said, you
- 5:04Speaker 3: promised me some stuff, and I didn't get it. And
- 5:08Speaker 3: this crushed me. I said, okay, the parents didn't come through.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Why am I the victim? Why did I get bent
- 5:12Speaker 3: over and tooled up? Why did I get bent over
- 5:16Speaker 3: and tooled up to shoot him? by an eight-year-old. His
- 5:21Speaker 3: parents didn't come through, and that's when I decided every
- 5:23Speaker 3: child that comes to me is going to get what
- 5:26Speaker 3: he wants for Christmas.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So that is your secret?
- 5:29Speaker 2: That is your secret, that every kid that comes to
- 5:32Speaker 2: you gets what he wants?
- 5:33Speaker 3: You got it right, sunshine. And I will tell you.
- 5:37Speaker 1: How is that possible? And can I say to you
- 5:40Speaker 1: at this time... All right, never mind. How is that possible?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Well, why is what possible?
- 5:45Speaker 1: How is it that every kid gets what he wants?
- 5:47Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you what I did. I went
- 5:49Speaker 3: home that night after that child called me an F
- 5:51Speaker 3: and an F-head and all that stuff. And I remember
- 5:55Speaker 3: I was shaking so, so much that I took a
- 5:57Speaker 3: drink to steady my nerves. And I said a prayer.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I got on my knees. And I said a prayer,
- 6:03Speaker 3: and I held my hand up, and I said, God,
- 6:06Speaker 3: show me what I can do. I spent a restless night,
- 6:09Speaker 3: but God gave me the word. And I went back
- 6:12Speaker 3: to the mall the next day. And when the kids
- 6:14Speaker 3: were done asking me for their toys, I asked to
- 6:16Speaker 3: meet with the parents afterwards. And I told them basically
- 6:20Speaker 3: what God had told me to say. And I looked
- 6:23Speaker 3: at all these parents and I said, the children see
- 6:26Speaker 3: me as Santa Claus. So I'm going to say this
- 6:29Speaker 3: one time to all of you.
- 6:30Speaker 1: You got all the parents together?
- 6:33Speaker 3: Of the kids who had been in line.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Of the kids who had been in line, okay.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I said, I'm going to say this one time. All
- 6:39Speaker 3: the kids who came to me have said they was
- 6:42Speaker 3: good little kids. That's good enough for me. I got
- 6:46Speaker 3: their lists. They've been good. I told them that they
- 6:49Speaker 3: would get what they wanted. So there's the store. Closes
- 6:54Speaker 3: at 10. Take your four trail pants and your wallets
- 7:01Speaker 3: and get in there. Now, if you want to breed,
- 7:05Speaker 3: you've got to eat. That's what I said. And let
- 7:08Speaker 3: me tell you what.
- 7:10Speaker 1: All right. You threatened the parents.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I told them to get to get. Yeah, I don't
- 7:15Speaker 3: know what you mean by that.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Can you tell me about the knife you held to
- 7:17Speaker 1: a man's throat?
- 7:20Speaker 3: What about it? Where'd you get the information?
- 7:23Speaker 2: My staff found a John Melendez of Santa Clarita. He
- 7:26Speaker 2: filed a criminal assault complaint.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Okay, that guy. Yeah, I remember that asshole. His kid wanted.
- 7:33Speaker 2: And if we're going to talk about Santa Claus and
- 7:35Speaker 2: we're going to talk about these things, I'd ask you
- 7:37Speaker 2: to watch your language.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I'm sorry. His kid wanted a PlayStation 2. He didn't
- 7:41Speaker 3: get him the thing he wanted, and I refuse to
- 7:44Speaker 3: take the heat for the parents' inadequacy anymore, so yes,
- 7:47Speaker 3: I got angry.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And you accosted this man and put a knife to
- 7:50Speaker 1: his throat.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I asked him, why didn't you get the kid this stuff?
- 7:53Speaker 1: I told him, maybe these parents can't afford this.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Then don't bring your kid to me. If you got
- 7:59Speaker 3: a problem affording toys for Christmas, don't make me take
- 8:02Speaker 3: the heat. Kid sits in my lap and says, Santa Claus,
- 8:05Speaker 3: I want this, I want that. I go, you got it.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You got it. And let me tell you what, sunshine,
- 8:10Speaker 3: I say to them parents, now you get in there
- 8:12Speaker 3: and you get that stuff. If you don't get it,
- 8:15Speaker 3: you and I got a problem. And I have been
- 8:19Speaker 3: very successful with that kind of approach.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Well, it is extremely aggressive, and it's in the case
- 8:26Speaker 2: of one man holding a knife to his throat.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Mr. Henry, it's very simple. You know, you go get
- 8:31Speaker 3: the kids their stuff. If you can't get the stuff,
- 8:33Speaker 3: don't bring them to see me. I can't sit down
- 8:35Speaker 3: for three days after I ask you what I get
- 8:37Speaker 3: from some kids that they don't give their crap. Because
- 8:42Speaker 3: their parents are a lying dog.
- 8:44Speaker 1: A lying dog.
- 8:46Speaker 2: You know, if you're going to be a successful Santa Claus,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I suppose you've got to make the kids happy. But
- 8:50Speaker 2: I'm not aware that threatening parents into getting toys for
- 8:55Speaker 2: their kids.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I'm Santa Claus. Kid sees me, asks me for a toy,
- 8:59Speaker 3: I tell him, yes, you're the parent, you better get
- 9:02Speaker 3: out and get it.
- 9:03Speaker 2: So if I brought my daughter, for instance, to sit
- 9:05Speaker 2: on your lap, and she said stuff that she wanted.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Then you would best hop to it. As a matter
- 9:09Speaker 3: of fact, the best thing to do is to drop
- 9:12Speaker 3: your kid off with me and go ahead and shag
- 9:15Speaker 3: ass into the store... Get the stuff. Meet your kid
- 9:19Speaker 3: as she's getting off my lap. Because that makes me
- 9:22Speaker 3: look even better. You're standing there with a bag of
- 9:24Speaker 3: the crap already.
- 9:28Speaker 1: So I don't take it. You obviously have a method
- 9:33Speaker 1: that is very controversial.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I don't take any mess. And I believe in the children.
- 9:38Speaker 3: A parent who can't get the stuff better keep their
- 9:40Speaker 3: fruit of the looms on and forget about it.
- 9:44Speaker 1: All right.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Austin Amarca is... I wouldn't take my kid to you, okay?
- 9:48Speaker 3: You don't have to. You don't have to take your
- 9:49Speaker 3: kid to me. But if you bring your kid to me,
- 9:51Speaker 3: you better get them their toys for Christmas. And I
- 9:55Speaker 3: thought you made me the Santa of the week.
- 9:58Speaker 2: My staff made you the Santa of the week after
- 10:00Speaker 2: reading about your story, but I don't know that threatening
- 10:02Speaker 2: people is the way to get toys for kids at Christmas.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Let me get my phone number out. 1-800-449-8686.
- 10:11Speaker 3: 1-800-449-8686.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Mr.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Austin Amarca from Rockland, California. He's been a Santa Claus
- 10:16Speaker 2: at the Mountain Gate Mall there for the last three years.
- 10:18Speaker 2: For the last year, He has taken to promising the
- 10:22Speaker 2: children they'll get their toys come hell or high water,
- 10:25Speaker 2: and he threatens parents that don't get the toys for
- 10:27Speaker 2: the kids. In one instance, this resulted in one man
- 10:31Speaker 2: having a knife held to his throat, and I don't
- 10:34Speaker 2: know why he wasn't arrested for that. We're talking to
- 10:39Speaker 2: Santa Claus on The Phil Henry Show.
- 10:41Speaker 1: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Back here with Austin Amarca. He's Santa of the Week.
- 10:45Speaker 2: He works at the Mountain Gate Mall in Rockland, California,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and it is his opinion... that if you can't afford
- 10:51Speaker 2: to buy the toys that the kid wants, then don't
- 10:54Speaker 2: have kids.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Now, you're a Santa Claus. You promised the kids everything.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Oh, look, when a child comes to me and sits
- 11:00Speaker 3: on my lap, he says, Santa, I'd like this, I'd
- 11:02Speaker 3: like that. I ask the kid the question, have you
- 11:05Speaker 3: been a good kid? The kid says yes, then, brother,
- 11:08Speaker 3: all bets are off, sunshine. You had better get that
- 11:11Speaker 3: kid those toys. Now, that's all there is to it
- 11:13Speaker 3: because I always believe in coming through for a kid.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Well, what if they can't afford it?
- 11:17Speaker 2: If the parents can't afford it?
- 11:20Speaker 3: Look, like I said before, sunshine, if you can't eat,
- 11:25Speaker 3: then don't breed. If you can't get your kid the
- 11:27Speaker 3: toys that they want, then don't have no kids. When
- 11:32Speaker 3: I was growing up, Every Christmas, my father would say
- 11:35Speaker 3: to me, well, I'll try to get that bike this year,
- 11:37Speaker 3: that year. And I'd say to him, what about Santa Claus?
- 11:40Speaker 3: You've been telling me all about him. Well, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 3: Santa's busy. Busy doing what? I said, make that bicycle.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I want it now. And I never got the bike.
- 11:52Speaker 3: And I've told myself, if I was ever in a
- 11:54Speaker 3: position to be a Santa Claus, the kids would get
- 11:58Speaker 3: what they want. You can't breed. You can't eat, don't breed, sunshine.
- 12:04Speaker 3: You can't breathe if you don't eat. So just get
- 12:08Speaker 3: your kids the toys, shut the hole under your nose,
- 12:12Speaker 3: and have a Merry Christmas.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And you're real popular with the kids.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I'm damn popular with the kids.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But I bet you the parents hate your guts.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but the parents can't help but bring their kids
- 12:21Speaker 3: back because the kids love me so much.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Austin Amarca. What do you do for a living, Austin?
- 12:28Speaker 3: I work at a restaurant.
- 12:29Speaker 1: You're a cook, right?
- 12:30Speaker 3: I'm a cook, yes, sir.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Let me go over to Norma. Norma, you're on the
- 12:35Speaker 1: Phil Henry Show.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Hello.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Hello.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Yes, Norma, go ahead.
- 12:42Speaker 4: What kind of person are you? You should be lucky
- 12:46Speaker 4: that one of these times a man is going to
- 12:50Speaker 4: come and pull a gun on you and shoot you.
- 12:53Speaker 3: He's not going to shoot me. He'd make his kid unhappy.
- 12:57Speaker 3: No parent ever gets up into my face because the
- 13:00Speaker 3: children love me. Because I get them everything that they want.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Well, you know those parents, the people that hear about you,
- 13:08Speaker 4: the parents should be smart enough to go make another
- 13:10Speaker 4: Santa Claus and be nicer so they can get you.
- 13:14Speaker 3: You go to another Santa Claus, that cheap son of
- 13:18Speaker 3: a bitch isn't going to get the kids the stuff
- 13:20Speaker 3: they want. Now, now, now. I get the kids the stuff.
- 13:24Speaker 4: What do you have to cuss when you talk to me?
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yeah, why are you cussing?
- 13:29Speaker 3: I don't mean to cuss. I apologize, ma'am. But I
- 13:31Speaker 3: don't really.
- 13:32Speaker 4: You should go to management classes. I think you'll be better.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Are you happy? Are you happy with your life?
- 13:38Speaker 3: I love it. I love it when I make kids happy,
- 13:40Speaker 3: even if it pisses the parents off. I love making
- 13:44Speaker 3: children happy. And when children are... Do you got kids?
- 13:50Speaker 4: No, sir, I don't have kids. I don't have kids.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Well, see, you don't want to get them... Then you
- 13:56Speaker 3: made the right choice. You don't heed, so don't read.
- 13:59Speaker 4: No, I do. I give my kids. You know who
- 14:01Speaker 4: my kids are? My kids are my nephews, my nieces,
- 14:04Speaker 4: and my best friends, little kids.
- 14:06Speaker 3: You ever take them over to see a Santa Claus
- 14:08Speaker 3: on the mall or something like that?
- 14:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I do.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I sure do. Well, bring them on to me.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Where are you located?
- 14:16Speaker 3: I'm at the Mountain Gate Mall in Rockland, California. And
- 14:20Speaker 3: I'm a Santa Claus. I sit just between the food
- 14:24Speaker 3: court and the organ place where they sell the pianos.
- 14:28Speaker 3: And they got me. And the kid comes up, and
- 14:31Speaker 3: he says to me, Santa Claus, I want to play state.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I said, I'm going to ask you this one time
- 14:35Speaker 3: and one time only, and don't you lie to me.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Don't you ever lie to Santa. Have you been a
- 14:39Speaker 3: good kid? Yes, Santa, I have. Then you head off.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I'll talk to your parents, and I guarantee, come Christmas time,
- 14:46Speaker 3: you're going to have more toys underneath your tree than
- 14:49Speaker 3: you can shake a stick at. And that's the truth, sunshine.
- 14:53Speaker 3: And I'll tell you something else. These kids love my ass.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Because I get them everything they want.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Well, you know what I want to be doing for
- 15:01Speaker 4: you this year? I want to be praying to God.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I swear to God, you need prayers, sir.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I need prayers.
- 15:06Speaker 4: And have a happy.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Holiday, okay? A man who makes children happy.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Why are you so bad? Why are you so rude
- 15:11Speaker 4: to people? You know, sometimes people can't afford it. Have
- 15:15Speaker 4: you ever thought about that? And they have these little, small,
- 15:19Speaker 4: little kids.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I'll tell you what right now.
- 15:21Speaker 4: And lying and everything. You know, come on.
- 15:25Speaker 3: If you can't afford it, don't bring your raggedy-ass kids
- 15:27Speaker 3: over to see me. I think it's if you.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Don't pay the piper, you don't dance.
- 15:49Speaker 3: But, you know, you want to be a smartass about it.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And you really do have quite a mouth on you,
- 15:55Speaker 2: all right? I mean, I'm asking you on a radio
- 15:57Speaker 2: broadcast to clean it up a little bit.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I'm sorry about that. See, but that's typical of a
- 16:02Speaker 3: lot of parents. Hey, you know what? How dare you?
- 16:05Speaker 3: How dare you? How dare you? Yeah, your kid loves me. Now,
- 16:09Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you this, and I'm going to
- 16:11Speaker 3: tell you this one time, Sunshine. My name is Santa Claus.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I get kids stuff they want. If you can't handle
- 16:19Speaker 3: a fright as a parent, well, then maybe you shouldn't
- 16:21Speaker 3: have been pumping them out in the first place. Maybe
- 16:24Speaker 3: when the time come, and it's a cool Saturday night
- 16:26Speaker 3: with a breeze going through the palm tree, you should
- 16:29Speaker 3: have taken to sewing your pants shut. But now that
- 16:31Speaker 3: you've got them kids, make sure you've got the rake
- 16:34Speaker 3: before you procreate. That's what I'm saying. Your kid loves
- 16:36Speaker 3: me more than they love you.
- 16:39Speaker 1: The lady said you need anger management.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Oh, bull crap, anger management. Why, because I make children happy?
- 16:44Speaker 1: No, but if you're going to threaten parents, you held
- 16:46Speaker 1: a knife to a man's throat.
- 16:48Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you something right now. He brought
- 16:50Speaker 3: his kid to me. Kid want a PlayStation 2?
- 16:52Speaker 2: PlayStation 2, $ 650 to $ 700 for a PlayStation 2.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Then don't bring your kid to me.
- 17:00Speaker 2: And that's all I'm trying to say.
- 17:05Speaker 1: 1-800-449-8686.
- 17:05Speaker 2: This is Austin Amarca. He is a Santa at the
- 17:08Speaker 2: Mountain Gate Mall in Rockland, California. Considered to be one
- 17:11Speaker 2: of the most successful Santa Clauses in history because the
- 17:14Speaker 2: children that come to see him just about get everything.
- 17:18Speaker 1: That they asked for on christmas well i don't know
- 17:22Speaker 1: that you can verify.
- 17:23Speaker 6: That okay i don't know that you can verify that
- 17:26Speaker 6: capital that the kids get a lot of what they
- 17:30Speaker 6: asked for when they come to see him and as
- 17:32Speaker 6: a result he's extremely popular with the kids but the
- 17:34Speaker 6: parents hate his guts let's move over here to uh.
- 17:37Speaker 1: brian on the phil henry show brian go ahead.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Yeah often yeah what kind of lesson are you uh...
- 17:44Speaker 4: teaching the youth of america today.
- 17:49Speaker 3: What kind of lesson am I teaching the youth of
- 17:51Speaker 3: America today?
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, are you just teaching them that they can get
- 17:55Speaker 4: anything that they want?
- 17:56Speaker 3: If they're good.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Anything that they want at any time, they get it, right?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Ain't that what you tell them, kids, when you send
- 17:59Speaker 3: them up to Santa Claus? If you've been good, you
- 18:01Speaker 3: get your toys? I ain't teaching them that. The parents
- 18:04Speaker 3: of America taught them that. And I'm coming through for them.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Well, that's bull crap. Are you saying that just because.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Hey, look, I'll tell you what. When you get kids,
- 18:12Speaker 3: why don't you call me back? You don't sound you're
- 18:14Speaker 3: old enough to squeeze out one decent turd, let alone
- 18:17Speaker 3: having a kid.
- 18:18Speaker 4: I'll tell you what.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Okay, look it, man.
- 18:20Speaker 3: I've got an 18-month. You've got a what?
- 18:22Speaker 4: I've got an 18-month little boy.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Not a motorcycle. Yeah. I'll tell you what. When you
- 18:30Speaker 3: get yourself a kid and that kid gets old enough,
- 18:33Speaker 3: don't bring him to me unless you're ready to get
- 18:36Speaker 3: that kid every damn toy he wants.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Every single toy. And what if the kid were to
- 18:42Speaker 1: ask for, like, a car, a Chevrolet?
- 18:45Speaker 3: That ain't a toy, is it?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Oh, so you limit it?
- 18:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I limit it to toys. Santa Claus makes toys.
- 18:51Speaker 3: You don't bring no damn car. That's all I'm trying
- 18:55Speaker 3: to tell you. And that's why, as I say, you know,
- 19:01Speaker 3: that's why, as I say, what I'm doing more than
- 19:03Speaker 3: anything else is making these kids happy. And I love
- 19:06Speaker 3: to make children happy. And I don't mind making the
- 19:09Speaker 3: parents upset.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Well, you know what, ultimately a kid is going to
- 19:13Speaker 2: have to do what the parent says to do.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And if the parent doesn't want to bring the kid back, then.
- 19:18Speaker 3: If the parent doesn't want to bring the kid back,
- 19:19Speaker 3: let me tell you what happens to a child who
- 19:21Speaker 3: is deprived. And it doesn't get the things that he's
- 19:24Speaker 3: asked for. That child grows up denied. The next thing
- 19:28Speaker 3: you know, he's 14, 15 years old, he finds a
- 19:31Speaker 3: book of matches. Next thing you know, you're barbecued in
- 19:35Speaker 3: your own bed. Now, you take a look at the
- 19:38Speaker 3: Malibu fire and the Angeles National Forest fire. Who do
- 19:41Speaker 3: you think started that? Some kid whose parents were too
- 19:44Speaker 3: cheap to get him PlayStation 2.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Is back. We're with my guest, Austin Amarca. He's our
- 19:53Speaker 1: Santa Claus of the week.
- 19:54Speaker 2: He works as a Santa Claus at the Mountain Gate
- 19:55Speaker 2: Mall in Rockland, California. And your attitude is you get
- 19:58Speaker 2: the kids everything that they want. You watching TV there?
- 20:03Speaker 3: I just had something on. I'm sorry. What were you saying?
- 20:08Speaker 2: I was saying, sir, that you get the kids everything
- 20:12Speaker 2: that they want. You tell the parents, get in there
- 20:14Speaker 2: and get those toys.
- 20:15Speaker 3: That's right. I tell them what to do. I tell
- 20:18Speaker 3: those parents, you get in there.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Okay, I want to ask you, how did this philosophy
- 20:22Speaker 1: come about?
- 20:24Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you how it came about. Number one,
- 20:27Speaker 3: that kid that called me an MF-er when he didn't
- 20:29Speaker 3: get his PlayStation 2. Number two, my son asked me
- 20:34Speaker 3: for a G.I. Joe when he was a little boy.
- 20:37Speaker 3: He wanted a G.I. Joe doll. Right. And I didn't
- 20:41Speaker 3: get it for him. And I'll never forget not getting
- 20:46Speaker 3: him that G.I. Joe doll because that so deprived him.
- 20:48Speaker 3: He set fire to three warehouses just outside of Santa Clarita, California.
- 20:56Speaker 3: He is now interned at San Quentin Prison, Marin County, California.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And I blame myself.
- 21:05Speaker 2: You're blaming yourself because your son set fire to three warehouses?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Yes, I... Oh, you're telling me that there's no connection?
- 21:12Speaker 3: So you're telling me that.
- 21:13Speaker 2: No, I don't think there's necessarily a connection.
- 21:15Speaker 1: He wanted a G.I. Joe.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Yeah, there's obviously a connection. He wanted the G.I.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Joe.
- 21:19Speaker 3: He didn't get the G.I. Joe. He set fire to
- 21:21Speaker 3: three warehouses. You don't see it.
- 21:24Speaker 1: No, I don't see it.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Let me tell you what, Sunshine. You need to get
- 21:29Speaker 3: into the whole psychology of the kid.
- 21:33Speaker 1: G.I.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Joe, burning warehouses. Do you understand?
- 21:38Speaker 1: No, I don't understand.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Sunshine, you really need to get into the whole mindset
- 21:44Speaker 3: of where kids are at. Because I'll tell you, I
- 21:48Speaker 3: get them all the stuff.
- 21:49Speaker 7: 1-800-449-8686.
- 21:51Speaker 2: I don't know how I'm taking it being called Sunshine
- 21:55Speaker 2: every other word.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Dawn, hi, you're on the Phil Henry Show.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Hey, how are you?
- 22:00Speaker 2: Fine.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Are you there, Dawn?
- 22:04Speaker 5: Yes, I'm here.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Can you hear me?
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yes, ma'am.
- 22:06Speaker 5: I just want to say that that's ridiculous that they
- 22:09Speaker 5: have someone like him teaching the children that they get
- 22:13Speaker 5: whatever they want.
- 22:14Speaker 3: I mean, that's just ridiculous. Well, wait a second. I'm
- 22:16Speaker 3: not the guy that came up with that. You parents
- 22:19Speaker 3: came up with, if you're a good little boy, you
- 22:21Speaker 3: get good presents under your tree.
- 22:24Speaker 5: You'll get with it. The parents can afford to cry
- 22:26Speaker 5: and laugh.
- 22:27Speaker 3: No, no, no, that's not what you tell them. You
- 22:28Speaker 3: tell them that Santa Claus will bring you home.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Not everybody tells them that, you know?
- 22:32Speaker 3: The people that bring them to see Santa Claus, Dawn, hello,
- 22:35Speaker 3: I'm Santa Claus.
- 22:36Speaker 5: Okay, that's why we have children out here.
- 22:39Speaker 3: So you don't believe in Santa Claus? Like your son.
- 22:42Speaker 5: Burning up buildings because you're teaching them the wrong things.
- 22:45Speaker 5: You're teaching them that you should get whatever you want
- 22:47Speaker 5: in life, and if you don't get it, then you
- 22:49Speaker 5: should be deprived.
- 22:50Speaker 3: It's ridiculous. What about love? I taught him there was
- 22:52Speaker 3: a Santa Claus, and that Santa Claus would bring him
- 22:55Speaker 3: his toys if he's good. He was good one year.
- 22:57Speaker 3: He asked Santa for a GI Joe. I couldn't afford it.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Next thing you know, the whole skyline of Cloverdale, California
- 23:04Speaker 3: is in flames.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I followed him because you didn't give enough love.
- 23:09Speaker 7: Because you didn't teach him about giving, not getting.
- 23:11Speaker 3: You're talking about giving, but you've got to leave. I
- 23:12Speaker 3: taught him about Santa Claus. Hey, Don, I'm Santa Claus. Ho, ho, ho, sunshine.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Christmas is about giving.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Not about getting. And if we teach our children.
- 23:21Speaker 3: That, then maybe they won't.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Grow up to burn buildings.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to jump in here. Don, do you
- 23:26Speaker 1: teach your kids about Santa Claus?
- 23:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Well, what do you tell them?
- 23:30Speaker 5: What do you tell them?
- 23:31Speaker 1: What do you tell them about Santa Claus? Do you
- 23:33Speaker 1: tell them that?
- 23:33Speaker 3: Yeah. Hey, sunshine, do you tell your kids Santa Claus
- 23:36Speaker 3: brings toys?
- 23:38Speaker 5: Yeah, they bring toys, but not whatever they want.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Well, what does he bring them then? The stuff that
- 23:42Speaker 3: mom and dad can afford?
- 23:43Speaker 5: If Santa Claus can afford it, then they'll bring it.
- 23:46Speaker 3: That's what you.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Tell your children.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Get a load of that. If Santa Claus can afford it.
- 23:49Speaker 3: He lives at the G.D. North Pole.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Well, after they turn about, let's see, the realistic age of, what,
- 23:55Speaker 5: six nowadays, five, and they don't bring Santa Claus anymore?
- 23:59Speaker 3: Santa Claus gives, kids get, parents go and get.
- 24:05Speaker 5: What if you don't have the money, then what?
- 24:06Speaker 3: Then don't bring your kid to see Santa Claus, because
- 24:09Speaker 3: that's who I am. And by God, my hand to
- 24:13Speaker 3: God and my hand on a Bible. When a child
- 24:16Speaker 3: comes to me and says, I want something, and he's
- 24:18Speaker 3: been a good little boy or girl, oh, man.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Well, if you have your hand on the Bible, then
- 24:25Speaker 5: you should believe in God, and God doesn't believe in
- 24:27Speaker 5: just giving, giving, giving. It doesn't even materialistic stuff.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Get a load of you. Get a load of you.
- 24:33Speaker 3: You're telling your kids Santa Claus can't afford stuff. Every
- 24:36Speaker 3: kid knows Santa Claus can afford anything. Santa Claus can
- 24:39Speaker 3: afford to buy China if he wanted to. He can
- 24:41Speaker 3: buy countries. Santa Claus can afford anything.
- 24:45Speaker 5: What happens when they find out that Santa Claus is
- 24:47Speaker 5: you after five, and then what?
- 24:49Speaker 7: Santa Claus isn't anything, is it?
- 24:51Speaker 3: They're going to love my ass because I got them
- 24:53Speaker 3: everything they wanted.
- 24:54Speaker 5: No, they're not. They're going to know that you're a liar.
- 24:56Speaker 3: No, I'm a liar. I get them all the stuff
- 24:58Speaker 3: they needed.
- 25:00Speaker 5: They're going to know that you were a wacko, man.
- 25:02Speaker 3: You know this love stuff? Save that for the Easter Bunny, okay?
- 25:05Speaker 3: I'm Santa Claus. Santa Claus can afford anything. His rent
- 25:08Speaker 3: at the North Pole is probably 45 cents a month,
- 25:12Speaker 3: or I don't know who he's playing. Well, all these
- 25:13Speaker 3: parents are pissed off. Come on.
- 25:15Speaker 5: All these parents are pissed off, and you know what?
- 25:17Speaker 5: I believe what goes around comes around, so probably you've
- 25:21Speaker 5: got to come.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Hey, if you breathe, you heed, baby. You know what? Hey, sunshine,
- 25:24Speaker 3: if you breathe, you heed. Whatever.
- 25:28Speaker 5: All right, I got to go.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 5: What goes around comes around, buddy.
- 25:31Speaker 3: See you later. If you breathe, you heed, sunshine. Bye-bye. Yeah, later.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Well, that was really sweet, man. You got that woman in.
- 25:39Speaker 1: What are you doing?
- 25:40Speaker 3: I just want to see if the news is on.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Will you turn the TV off?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Jeez.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Hey, Sunshine, turn the TV off, okay?
- 25:49Speaker 3: You know, you crack me up. Hell, you could even
- 25:52Speaker 3: come home and make love to my sister. I like you.
- 25:54Speaker 1: What?
- 25:55Speaker 3: Never mind. Take a call, Sunshine.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Doug, you're on the Phil Henry Show.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Hello. Hey, what's happening, Sunshine? Hello, Sunshine.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Here is Mike on the Phil Henry Show. Mike, go ahead.
- 26:09Speaker 3: How you doing?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Fine, Mike, go ahead.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Um.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Hey, Mike, I'm Santa Claus.
- 26:16Speaker 4: How you doing, Santa Claus?
- 26:18Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Hey, I got a brother who's got a kid, and
- 26:21Speaker 4: they're poor.
- 26:22Speaker 3: They're both on welfare. So what do you.
- 26:25Speaker 7: Tell them when they can't afford nothing like that?
- 26:26Speaker 1: They go to Santa Claus.
- 26:28Speaker 3: You don't shag ass to Santa Claus if you can't
- 26:30Speaker 3: afford the toys. Well, yeah, but still, I mean, he
- 26:33Speaker 3: goes for smiles and laughs.
- 26:35Speaker 4: He wants to come see Santa Claus.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Everybody loves Santa Claus. Well, what's he going to do,
- 26:38Speaker 3: sit on Santa Claus' lap and go, I want, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 3: all that stuff, G.I. Joe's, PlayStation 2, all that, and
- 26:44Speaker 3: then comes Christmas time, his old man says, geez, I
- 26:47Speaker 3: can't afford to get you this stuff because there ain't
- 26:49Speaker 3: no Santa Claus. That kid's going to burn down warehouses.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't think he's going to burn
- 26:54Speaker 3: down any warehouses, man. I mean, you know what I'm saying?
- 26:56Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to come down to that. No, no,
- 26:57Speaker 3: I don't know what you're saying.
- 26:59Speaker 7: Well, I mean, what's Phil Henry think about this?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Well, I don't know, Mike, but we ain't taking any
- 27:04Speaker 1: more calls from Flint, Michigan. I'll tell you that much.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Here's Ted on the Phil Henry Show. Hello.
- 27:08Speaker 7: Hello.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yes, Ted.
- 27:10Speaker 7: This is Ted.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a question.
- 27:12Speaker 7: Hey, Ted, how you doing?
- 27:15Speaker 3: I'm Santa Claus.
- 27:15Speaker 7: Well, you know, I don't understand the Santa Claus issue
- 27:18Speaker 7: and everything.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 27:19Speaker 7: And Santa Claus is all about giving and receiving. But,
- 27:23Speaker 7: you know, it's kind of hard to make ends meet
- 27:25Speaker 7: the way the economy is right now. And I'm just
- 27:27Speaker 7: wondering if you can afford a $ 200- something PlayStation for your
- 27:31Speaker 7: kids on a cook's shelf salary. Can you do it
- 27:34Speaker 7: if your kids want it?
- 27:36Speaker 3: If my kids wanted a PlayStation 2 and Santa Claus,
- 27:39Speaker 3: they said, see, I'm Santa Claus. Okay? So my kids
- 27:44Speaker 3: come to me when they want to ask for their toys.
- 27:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 3: And then I ask them, have you been good or bad? Well,
- 27:49Speaker 3: they know they've been crap all year because I'm their dad, too.
- 27:53Speaker 3: So they can't lie to me.
- 27:55Speaker 7: But, I mean, like I said, I mean, I'll do
- 27:57Speaker 7: anything I can for my kids, too.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Ted, Ted, you know what I'm saying? You may have
- 28:01Speaker 3: got to put a wrapper on your slapper if you
- 28:02Speaker 3: can't come up with the toys.
- 28:05Speaker 7: That's not what Christmas is all about. You've got people
- 28:08Speaker 7: like you trying to tell us how we need to
- 28:09Speaker 7: raise our kids, and you probably ain't got kids.
- 28:12Speaker 3: I had a son, but he's at San Quentin right now.
- 28:15Speaker 7: Well, like I said, I mean.
- 28:16Speaker 3: He set fire to about three, four warehouses, and.
- 28:19Speaker 7: Well, that's probably because having a father like you.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Made him do that. No, because I didn't give him
- 28:23Speaker 3: that G.I. Joe like I said I would.
- 28:25Speaker 7: No, because you didn't show him no love. You sat
- 28:26Speaker 7: around and cursed all the time, and you didn't show
- 28:28Speaker 7: him no love.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Hey, Sunshine, I say to my son, look... If you're
- 28:32Speaker 3: a good little boy, Santa Claus, which was me, will
- 28:36Speaker 3: bring you the stuff. Then I'd get into my Santa
- 28:38Speaker 3: Claus suit and I'd say, come on, I'm Santa Claus.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Holy Jesus, look at this Santa Claus. He'd sit in
- 28:42Speaker 3: my lap.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Would you watch with the language?
- 28:45Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'd say, have you been a good little boy?
- 28:47Speaker 3: He'd say, yes. I'd say, no, you haven't. You're lying
- 28:50Speaker 3: because Santa Claus knows you didn't take out the trash.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Your bedroom looks like somebody tossed a freaking Claymore mine
- 28:57Speaker 3: inside of it. That's all I'm talking about. See what
- 29:00Speaker 3: I'm saying, Ted? So then I said to him, Sunshine,
- 29:03Speaker 3: you ain't getting squat for Christmas.
- 29:05Speaker 7: Well, no, you're going to get what Dad can afford.
- 29:08Speaker 7: If you've got a roof over your head and you're
- 29:09Speaker 7: not starving to death, you're a blessed person. And everybody's
- 29:13Speaker 7: trying to take this Christmas thing, and they take it
- 29:15Speaker 7: too far. It's not about buying this and buying that.
- 29:19Speaker 7: You should be showing kids love, not showing them what
