- 0:18Speaker 1: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian, and
- 0:21Speaker 1: on this exclusive Horror Club episode, we head back to
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Bastion to discuss a new horror movie, and in
- 0:27Speaker 1: true Meltdown fashion. And since we are specifically jumping into
- 0:31Speaker 1: the young adult horror novel turned into film world, who
- 0:34Speaker 1: better to assess the situation than our resident YA horror enthusiast, Misty.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And yes, she has plenty to say about how this
- 0:42Speaker 1: movie fits into the YA horror world.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Or doesn't.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And of course, as per usual, that also means Jay
- 0:49Speaker 1: gets roped into it. Which is awesome because as you
- 0:51Speaker 1: probably know, he always has his own special take on things. Plus,
- 0:55Speaker 1: we usually get each other off track with some sort
- 0:58Speaker 1: of ridiculous story. So if you're not already a member, obviously,
- 1:02Speaker 1: now is the time to join the Meltdown Horror Club,
- 1:05Speaker 1: where you'll get to hear us say awesome things like this.
- 1:10Speaker 2: One of the most, let's say, one of the most
- 1:13Speaker 2: famous horror movies?
- 1:15Speaker 1: I would say. It's one of those that even normal
- 1:18Speaker 1: people who don't like horror movies probably have seen. If not,
- 1:22Speaker 1: they know about it, they know all the references, so...
- 1:25Speaker 1: It's certainly one of the most widely known horror movies.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It was one of the big ones when I was
- 1:29Speaker 2: a kid.
- 1:31Speaker 1: But yeah, I was so upset that they didn't do
- 1:33Speaker 1: more with her in the long run. And they went
- 1:36Speaker 1: back to doing the most conventional version of the wrap
- 1:40Speaker 1: up that we've seen three times over already.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We found a podcast where somebody talks to our neighbor.
- 1:47Speaker 2: In jail.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So I was going to say in prison now. You
- 1:52Speaker 1: might if you're not listening for years and years and years.
- 1:55Speaker 1: We've brought this up on the show a long time ago,
- 1:57Speaker 1: but yes, across the street right over there, you can't
- 2:01Speaker 1: see me pointing to it, is the house where a
- 2:03Speaker 1: serial killer lived.
- 2:04Speaker 2: He cut our yard.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He used to cut the grass, and he talked to Jay.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Worked on motorcycles with boyfriend in our garage, helping with cars.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And Misty was creeped out by him, even then.
- 2:13Speaker 2: No, no, no, only once.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Your spidey sense was tingling. Just the one fresh in
- 2:19Speaker 1: the garage. One in the garage, one in the yard.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Which, according to the details in the podcasts, The reason
- 2:25Speaker 2: why the old lady in the garage became a victim. Yeah,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I remember them dragging the river right after they arrested him.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but we didn't know why.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They weren't pretty sure the guy who left all that
- 2:38Speaker 1: stuff behind murdered a bunch of people.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Nice.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Licenses. Several, several driver's licenses.
- 2:45Speaker 2: You didn't at least take pictures of these so you
- 2:47Speaker 2: could try to Google them or something?
- 2:48Speaker 1: I was helping somebody else and they were trying to
- 2:50Speaker 1: hurry up and get everything cleared out of there because...
- 2:52Speaker 1: It was their locker and they had to get everything
- 2:54Speaker 1: out and move on and do other stuff and whatever.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I just claimed the good stuff he left behind. That's
- 3:01Speaker 1: where I got that bitchin' knife from. Which has probably
- 3:03Speaker 1: murdered at least several women. It was mostly women's driver's license.
- 3:08Speaker 1: There was also a jar full of teeth.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And you didn't keep those? At first we shall discuss
- 3:14Speaker 2: it as a movie. A dumb, fun slasher movie. And
- 3:18Speaker 2: then I'll discuss it as a Fear Street movie.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm sure that The book reading network all knew all
- 3:24Speaker 1: about it. But for regular, you know, just movie dorks,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Us Instagrammers who follow all the things Fear Street and R.L.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Stine related, we knew this was coming. And a lot
- 3:34Speaker 2: of us had our kind of questions. All right. And
- 3:38Speaker 2: when I first watched the movie, I was.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Those individual scenes are still masterfully done. damn, he knows
- 3:45Speaker 1: how to shoot horror scenes. Like, everything else within those
- 3:48Speaker 1: little individual scenes works so well that I'm just, yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I'm impressed with it on that level. And that's what
- 3:56Speaker 1: I wanted to address, at least, going into it, was, like,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I didn't have any of that, as constantly mentioned on
- 4:03Speaker 1: this show, I don't read anything. So, like, I didn't
- 4:06Speaker 1: have any.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I lived these books.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I know. So, I mean, that puts it in a
- 4:10Speaker 1: totally different perspective, because I had no.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I was literally in elementary school. Waiting for that little
- 4:15Speaker 2: piece of paper they bring you, the little order form.
- 4:17Speaker 2: The scholastic book club, whatever. Oh, and don't even get
- 4:21Speaker 2: me started on the goddamn book fair. When the book
- 4:23Speaker 2: fair would come and set up in the library, do
- 4:25Speaker 2: you know how many chores I had to do around
- 4:27Speaker 2: the house, scraping up nickels and dimes, so that I
- 4:29Speaker 2: could have my jingle jangles going when I'd go to
- 4:31Speaker 2: the goddamn book fair?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Again, the 90s is that era when the geeks started
- 4:37Speaker 1: to find each other, because... Suddenly we had, yeah, we
- 4:41Speaker 1: had internet. We had chat rooms.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That everybody sat in.
- 4:43Speaker 3: But they weren't like most of the ones, I mean,
- 4:45Speaker 3: maybe this is, you know, maybe that's a different dimension.
- 4:49Speaker 1: What's the shortcut? What's her name? Is it somebody's shortcut? Frisbee?
- 4:54Speaker 2: I have no idea what you're talking about.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Anyway, there's one that's the shortcut that Whoever this character
- 5:01Speaker 1: is finds a way to travel faster than the crow
- 5:04Speaker 1: flies on these roads. This is Todd's shortcut? That sounds
- 5:08Speaker 1: like a thing.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Never heard of it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So it is over the top.
- 5:12Speaker 2: It didn't feel 90s to me at all. At all.
- 5:16Speaker 1: The movie or the use of the song? The movie.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The movie didn't seem 90s to me at all. What
- 5:23Speaker 2: did you say to me right after we watched it?
- 5:25Speaker 3: I didn't see a goddamn choker in the whole fucking movie.
- 5:31Speaker 3: That was uncomfortable.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I know. That needed a trigger warning.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I felt dirty after that. I think everybody did.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Me and boyfriend were sitting down and I'm like, what
- 5:45Speaker 2: are the chances that something that you're so passionate about
- 5:48Speaker 2: and that I'm so passionate about are coming out so
- 5:51Speaker 2: close together?
- 5:52Speaker 3: That guy's an Asian. Dude, you don't know the fist fights.
- 5:58Speaker 3: That were had over that figure in the aisles of
- 6:01Speaker 3: Toys R Us. The running to hopefully grab the last
- 6:06Speaker 3: Snake Eyes. Because they didn't put a lot of them
- 6:08Speaker 3: on the shelves. Barbecue, you know.
- 6:12Speaker 2: The Enemy, Snowjob. Yeah, you could find him.
- 6:16Speaker 3: There's a whole bunch of them.
- 6:17Speaker 2: But at least you had merchandise. Fear Street had books
- 6:20Speaker 2: and that was it. At least if you got Goosebumps,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you had board games, you had t-shirts, you had fucking toys,
- 6:27Speaker 2: you had everything. You had trading cards.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Fear Street had nothing.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I had to make my own goddamn Fear Street trading cards.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And I did, goddammit. And I laminated them all. He
- 6:38Speaker 2: was supposed to have survived the TV to the head.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Because his character, you can see him at the party
- 6:43Speaker 2: in the second movie.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But I'm like, this is kind of how teenagers talk.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I hate to talk.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I certainly was like that. Not like I've gotten much
- 6:52Speaker 1: better now.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I got to start off by saying how much I love,
- 6:57Speaker 2: was it Maya? Maya Hawk?
- 6:58Speaker 1: I think it's Maya Hawk.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Love her. You know what would have made her four
- 7:02Speaker 2: fucking awesome? If she'd have been wearing a fucking choker,
- 7:04Speaker 2: because that would have been more fucking right. See, there
- 7:06Speaker 2: we go. She could have been wearing a choker. She
- 7:08Speaker 2: has the neck for it. It would have looked good
- 7:10Speaker 2: on her. She has a nice little skinny neck, a
- 7:12Speaker 2: little velvet choker, or the little plastic ones with the
- 7:15Speaker 2: little design. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, I
- 7:18Speaker 2: know what you're talking about.
- 7:21Speaker 1: That was my next thing. First of all, we get
- 7:23Speaker 1: the mall, which, as you know, I spent a little
- 7:26Speaker 1: more time in the mall than normal humans should. So yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I was looking, because when they look around, we got.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Was Sbarro's there? Because I... You have no idea how
- 7:36Speaker 2: many times I have a hankering for Sbarro's.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I want a pizza flipped over on top of another pizza.
- 7:43Speaker 1: And we decided to go check it out. And being
- 7:47Speaker 1: dorks that we are, we also had a video camera...
- 7:51Speaker 1: This was cutting edge of technology. I'd saved up so
- 7:54Speaker 1: much money and got my tax return back from working.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Was it massive? Oh, yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 1: It's a full-size VHS. It took the VHS cassettes. It
- 8:01Speaker 1: was the RCA model and had a full pop-out. Shove
- 8:06Speaker 1: the tape in there, start your recording. So we decided
- 8:08Speaker 1: to take our camera and go in there and go exploring.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Are you okay with them trying to do any? Do
- 8:16Speaker 1: you think they'll ever actually be successful in... in your mind,
- 8:20Speaker 1: at trying to do a version of either Fear Street
- 8:23Speaker 1: or our Ulstein other projects. Now, as I said, if
- 8:27Speaker 1: you join up and become a Melkiteer, not only will
- 8:30Speaker 1: you get to hear this episode in its entirety, but
- 8:33Speaker 1: you'll also get to hear all of the upcoming episodes,
- 8:36Speaker 1: including the next two movies in this horror trilogy. It
- 8:40Speaker 1: is a very interesting series, and of course, we have
- 8:42Speaker 1: a lot to say about it. So go to MovieMeltdown.com
- 8:45Speaker 1: and click the link at the top right-hand corner where
- 8:48Speaker 1: it says Join the Meltdown Horror Club. And then you'll
- 8:50Speaker 1: not only get to hear all these exclusive episodes, but
- 8:53Speaker 1: you'll help us keep this terror train rolling.
- 8:56Speaker 3: On this terror train, this terror train, this Pennsylvania terror train.
