- 1:51Speaker 1: edition of Disguise Coverage, I had an initial thing, uh
- 1:55Speaker 1: kind of planned for this episode and then pivoted and
- 1:58Speaker 1: decided to bump it to next week or potentially the
- 2:00Speaker 1: week after. We'll see what happens with some free agency
- 2:02Speaker 1: news and other things. Because of going through the press
- 2:06Speaker 1: conferences and media speaking obligations today from Joe Brady and
- 2:13Speaker 1: Brandon Bean at the twenty twenty six NFL Combine. There
- 2:17Speaker 1: was of course some coach speak and some generalities and
- 2:20Speaker 1: things that were kind of just like I think givens
- 2:23Speaker 1: or layups that coaches and gms kind of just put
- 2:27Speaker 1: out there continue to, you know, regurgitate across different platforms,
- 2:32Speaker 1: across different different interviews throughout the off season. But I
- 2:35Speaker 1: thought there were a couple interesting nuggets today, some salary
- 2:38Speaker 1: cap related matters, some player related matters, and honestly a
- 2:44Speaker 1: couple a couple interesting themes or breadcrumbs I should say
- 2:50Speaker 1: from Brandon Bean and Joe Brady that I think continue
- 2:54Speaker 1: to put into perspective and bring to light why the
- 2:59Speaker 1: Bills are where they are, the decisions that they made
- 3:02Speaker 1: this off season and kind of putting previous off season
- 3:05Speaker 1: moves into perspective and or how they're trying to shape
- 3:09Speaker 1: things now or frame things now, you know, I I
- 3:13Speaker 1: it's interesting to see people be asked questions and then
- 3:19Speaker 1: give certain answers somewhat unprompted, or the answers they give
- 3:26Speaker 1: in how they you know, if you unpack it a
- 3:28Speaker 1: little bit, based on what they're saying and based on
- 3:30Speaker 1: what had happened previously, if you know enough and have
- 3:32Speaker 1: enough details, kind of piecing some things together and seeing
- 3:36Speaker 1: the thoughts behind behind things or maybe what they're really
- 3:39Speaker 1: trying to say. I thought there were some interesting ones
- 3:42Speaker 1: today in this press conference. And I'm not a big
- 3:47Speaker 1: you know you folks who know me. Sorry as I'm
- 3:50Speaker 1: looking down. I'm sharing this episode on social forgive me
- 3:54Speaker 1: for not making eye contact as I speak here. But
- 3:57Speaker 1: I'm not one to kind of really go through and oh,
- 4:01Speaker 1: what is so and so really mean by this, Like
- 4:03Speaker 1: what are they actually trying to say? Like what are
- 4:06Speaker 1: or what's the hidden meaning? You know, let's read between
- 4:09Speaker 1: the lines a little bit. I'm not that guy, but
- 4:12Speaker 1: there were some pretty overt statements today that I don't think.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I don't think it's egregious or too hard to connect
- 4:17Speaker 1: the dots or pick up the breadcrumbs and and and
- 4:19Speaker 1: start to put some pieces together based on what brainon
- 4:22Speaker 1: Bean was saying, based on what Joe Brady was saying.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And I do think some of that is important because
- 4:26Speaker 1: we are still We're still in a spot with this team,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and I don't want to be dramatic with it, but
- 4:38Speaker 1: I do think we're in a spot with this team
- 4:40Speaker 1: with this offseason. And I've set up before on the
- 4:43Speaker 1: show where I do think this offseason is going to
- 4:49Speaker 1: be extremely pivotal one way or the other going forward
- 4:52Speaker 1: for the future of this franchise. And I don't think
- 4:54Speaker 1: be saying that is anything particular particularly revelatory or like,
- 4:57Speaker 1: oh my god, what to take how insightful. But I
- 5:00Speaker 1: felt like this offseason was going to matter a couple
- 5:03Speaker 1: of years down the road, or years ago, I should say,
- 5:05Speaker 1: when you kind of looked at things down the road
- 5:07Speaker 1: and saw what contracts were kind of aligning a little bit,
- 5:12Speaker 1: how the team was starting to take shape, what moves
- 5:15Speaker 1: had worked in the draft versus which ones hadn't. Free
- 5:20Speaker 1: agency moves that worked out or didn't. I thought this
- 5:23Speaker 1: offseason the twenty twenty six offseason was already gonna be
- 5:25Speaker 1: one where things were starting to kind of come to
- 5:27Speaker 1: a head a little bit. I already thought that looking
- 5:29Speaker 1: at things for the past couple of years. I've talked
- 5:31Speaker 1: about it and kind of you those ends of season
- 5:34Speaker 1: where do the Bills go from here type episodes that
- 5:36Speaker 1: I usually do with Kendall Mursky. But then you got
- 5:40Speaker 1: the firing of Sean McDermott and the promotion of Brandon
- 5:44Speaker 1: Bean and essentially the promotion of Joe Brady and how
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's all kind of gone down, And I think that
- 5:53Speaker 1: just adds even more emphasis to how important this offseason is.
- 5:57Speaker 1: In firing Sean McDermott, and it could be for the
- 6:00Speaker 1: better and you trend upward, it could be for the
- 6:02Speaker 1: worse and they fall off a cliff. So anything that
- 6:04Speaker 1: I think we can continue to get to kind of
- 6:06Speaker 1: add some perspective to the move, to the reasoning behind everything.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And I think more importantly what kind of came today
- 6:16Speaker 1: was some some breadcrumbs again following in the theme of
- 6:21Speaker 1: that episode of maybe moves that had been made before
- 6:26Speaker 1: and how Brandon Bean felt towards them, and now that
- 6:30Speaker 1: to play devil's advocate. Anybody can kind of, you know,
- 6:33Speaker 1: take that with a grain of salt, right, if you
- 6:35Speaker 1: trust Brandon Bean, if you don't trust Brandon Bean, if
- 6:38Speaker 1: you think he is a reputable source. I know some
- 6:41Speaker 1: people still think that he is kind of snaky or
- 6:44Speaker 1: a judas or somebody not to be trusted, and kind
- 6:47Speaker 1: of how he's painting things and shaping things. But I
- 6:50Speaker 1: do think, I do think they Brandon Bean and Sean McDermott,
- 6:56Speaker 1: not Brandon being Sean McDermott still in that mode, Brandon
- 6:58Speaker 1: Bean and Joe Bray continue to kind of again give
- 7:02Speaker 1: us some bread crumbs, give us some inklings of how
- 7:07Speaker 1: they want this team to go forward, and based on
- 7:10Speaker 1: what they're saying right, continuing to pin some of the
- 7:15Speaker 1: blame on certain things on Sean McDermott, rightly or wrongly.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And that's kind of where I wanted to lead off
- 7:22Speaker 1: in this episode. The banner on the bottom says, biggest
- 7:25Speaker 1: bread crumb, slash them. No, it shouldn't say them. Hold on,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I gotta edit that. There's an e missing theme. It
- 7:33Speaker 1: should say theme. That's where I want to start in
- 7:35Speaker 1: this episode. Bring it falling apart, Biggest bread crumb. That's
- 7:39Speaker 1: kind of a tongue twister. Biggest bread crumb. If you
- 7:41Speaker 1: try to say that five times fast, it might be tough.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Biggest bread crumb slash theme from Brandon Bean and Joe
- 7:47Speaker 1: Brady today. Yeah, I would say, Charles, this is funny.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I wanted to bring this up real quick. Somebody, Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 1: right at the end of Bean's presser, Yeah, asked him,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and Charles says, it bro when someone asks Being why
- 8:00Speaker 1: he thought he was promoted to McDermott was fired with
- 8:02Speaker 1: such a crazy question, Yeah, somebody Towards the end of
- 8:04Speaker 1: Bean's so being the Being did a couple of like
- 8:07Speaker 1: little smaller interviews as well, like with with with Pro
- 8:10Speaker 1: Football Talk and a couple other outlets I believe, but
- 8:13Speaker 1: the main ones were him at the podium speaking to
- 8:15Speaker 1: the media and then speaking on one of Thills Live
- 8:18Speaker 1: with Chris Brown and Steve Tasker. But yeah, at the
- 8:20Speaker 1: end of him speaking to the media, somebody's just like
- 8:24Speaker 1: just like, hey, Brandon, you know how come you got
- 8:25Speaker 1: promoted and Sean McDermott got fired and you could see
- 8:29Speaker 1: Bean was just like what like it was just so
- 8:35Speaker 1: out of left field, and yeah, just really really funny
- 8:43Speaker 1: with kind of how somebody went to that. You could
- 8:45Speaker 1: tell people are still trying to go to that well
- 8:48Speaker 1: of trying to see what's up with Bean and mc
- 8:52Speaker 1: dermott and everything that went down. But let's dive into it.
- 8:54Speaker 1: You know, the biggest bread crumb slash theme from Brandon
- 8:59Speaker 1: Bean and Joe Brady today at their pressers and speaking
- 9:02Speaker 1: with the media at the twenty twenty six NFL combine.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I found this to be interesting what we're gonna get
- 9:08Speaker 1: into here, because it's it's something that's been mentioned since
- 9:12Speaker 1: Jim Leonard got hired, with particular reference to the defense
- 9:15Speaker 1: and Jim Leonard's philosophy and beliefs and all that stuff
- 9:18Speaker 1: and how it ties and what Joe Brady wants and
- 9:20Speaker 1: Brandon Bean wants and all that kind of stuff. Right,
- 9:24Speaker 1: But again, I'm going to I'm going to go back
- 9:27Speaker 1: to the presser after Sean McDermott was fired and going
- 9:31Speaker 1: back to what Terry Pegoulias said and what Brandon Bean said.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to drum all this up again.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And I'm also not trying to absolve Sean McDermott of anything.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I'm not saying that, so please nobody yell at me.
- 9:42Speaker 1: But based on what Pagola said and Brandon Bean said,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and you know, kind of in kind of indicated, but
- 9:49Speaker 1: also explicitly said, you know, they pinned the majority of
- 9:54Speaker 1: the blame for the Bills not getting over the hump,
- 9:56Speaker 1: for the Bills, you know, their shortcomings. They kind of
- 9:59Speaker 1: laid it at the of Sean mcgermott. They blamed him,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know, largely. And then you look at Brandon Bean
- 10:04Speaker 1: getting promoted, Joe Brady gets promoted. They replace essentially the
- 10:09Speaker 1: entire defense and majority of the offense as well, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 1: but Brady brings his guys and so on and so forth.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And if you just look at the moves and you
- 10:15Speaker 1: hear what was said and you kind of put everything
- 10:17Speaker 1: together explicitly and implicitly, you know, they are blaming the
- 10:21Speaker 1: shortcomings and the failures of this team on Sean McDermott.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I don't think that's I don't think that's news to anyone.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I don't think that's me reading too much into things.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That's just based off of what being has said and
- 10:31Speaker 1: what Joe Brady has said. You know, they've tried to
- 10:34Speaker 1: kind of disguise it a little bit. Sometimes they've been
- 10:36Speaker 1: more overt or you have Terry Pagoula in the literal
- 10:38Speaker 1: sense of being like, I walked into the locker room
- 10:40Speaker 1: and thought, how do we, you know, get over this hump?
- 10:42Speaker 1: And I realize Sean mcgermott wasn't the guy to be that.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You So you have different comments from you know, the
- 10:48Speaker 1: heads of the team, from the front office to the
- 10:50Speaker 1: new coaching staff now with Joe Brady kind of indicating
- 10:53Speaker 1: that and so you get some of those moves, you
- 10:56Speaker 1: get some of those comments. And then since Jim Lennard
- 10:58Speaker 1: has been hired, you know parts that Joe Brady has
- 11:01Speaker 1: driven home, Brandon Bean has driven home. They've talked about
- 11:04Speaker 1: it a bunch of the multiplicity, the versatility, the flexibility,
- 11:10Speaker 1: you know, this whole idea of what the defense is
- 11:12Speaker 1: going to be. And some of that's been driven by
- 11:14Speaker 1: the media questions because it's like, oh, Jim Leonard has
- 11:16Speaker 1: like a three four defense, what does that mean? Everything's
- 11:18Speaker 1: going to change? And so some of it is kind
- 11:20Speaker 1: of by design. They push back a little bit and
- 11:22Speaker 1: so you know, it's not as dramatic as it may seem.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You know, things will still be somewhat similar. We have
- 11:28Speaker 1: guys who can fit, kind of dancing around the questions
- 11:32Speaker 1: and those landmine type of aspects. But what I thought
- 11:36Speaker 1: was really interesting in the pressers today Brandon Bean and
- 11:40Speaker 1: Joe Brady both essentially driving home this notion of you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and they each set it in various ways, but the
- 11:49Speaker 1: idea of like not putting square pegs into round holes
- 11:55Speaker 1: in different verbiage and using that and talking about you know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: guys that fit versus guys that don't, but again referencing,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you know, not putting square pegs into round holes, different
- 12:06Speaker 1: verbiage like that. And then Brandon Bean had a particularly
- 12:10Speaker 1: interesting segment on One Bill's Live where he mentioned you
- 12:16Speaker 1: know again talking about Jim Leonard and how refreshing Jim
- 12:20Speaker 1: Leonard's approach is. He referenced that. He literally said, you know, quote,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you know, he was referencing what Jim Leonard said during
- 12:28Speaker 1: the interview process and how refreshing it was to hear.
- 12:31Speaker 1: You know, he was paraphrasing what Leonard said, but he
- 12:34Speaker 1: you know, reference Leonard and said, you know, Leonard saying quote,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I want good football players. Yes, we want to be
- 12:38Speaker 1: a defense of multiple and multiplicity, and we want able,
- 12:41Speaker 1: We want to be able to do this, but I
- 12:43Speaker 1: don't want to try and force a square peg into
- 12:45Speaker 1: a round hole. Just get us good players and we'll
- 12:48Speaker 1: get them in the right spot. And then he went
- 12:51Speaker 1: on to talk about scenarios where, you know, picking guys
- 12:58Speaker 1: in the draft, for example, and if you've got two
- 13:01Speaker 1: guys on the same tier, and it's like, okay, cool,
- 13:04Speaker 1: like you can pick the one that might be a
- 13:06Speaker 1: better scheme fit. But let's not. You know, if you
- 13:08Speaker 1: have guys with a similar grade or similar value, sure,
- 13:11Speaker 1: let's take the one that fits the scheme better. But
- 13:14Speaker 1: then he and if for those of you on the audio,
- 13:16Speaker 1: you can't see my hands, then my hands are even
- 13:18Speaker 1: right now. But then he puts one hand significantly higher
- 13:21Speaker 1: than the other and one hand significantly lower than the other,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and he says something in the tune of, you know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but don't pass on a better player for someone who's
- 13:31Speaker 1: significantly lower but fits a little better. And he he
- 13:36Speaker 1: talked I posted the clip on social earlier, but he
- 13:39Speaker 1: talked about, you know, not being forced into certain moves
- 13:43Speaker 1: in free agency, being forced into certain moves within the draft.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And I thought so much of that was interesting for
- 13:51Speaker 1: him to say that in particular, right to reference that
- 13:54Speaker 1: idea and that notion of not being forced into taking
- 13:57Speaker 1: someone who's a better scheme fit, but my not be
- 14:00Speaker 1: the better football player. That was something that being reiterated about.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Jim Leonard, the idea of let's just get good football
- 14:07Speaker 1: players being reiterated that for himself, like, I just want
- 14:10Speaker 1: good football players. Let's just get good football players, Let's
- 14:12Speaker 1: get the best football player, and some of that. They've
- 14:15Speaker 1: echoed that in previous seasons. Right, we kind of know
- 14:17Speaker 1: their draft model of best player available. They've kind of
- 14:20Speaker 1: always been that. But it was a recurring theme throughout
- 14:24Speaker 1: Brandon Bean's interviews today, Joe Brady's interviews today, them continuing
- 14:29Speaker 1: to talk about let's just get good football players, right,
- 14:33Speaker 1: let's just get good football players. Let's not put a
- 14:36Speaker 1: square peg into a round hole. Just get good football players,
- 14:40Speaker 1: and them driving it home that much was almost like, okay,
- 14:43Speaker 1: was because that should be the given. You should always
- 14:45Speaker 1: think that, like, no one should want to put a
- 14:47Speaker 1: square peg into a round hole. Right, that seems like
- 14:49Speaker 1: a given, that seems completely obvious. You shouldn't do that
- 14:52Speaker 1: in sports, you shouldn't do that anything. Square peg doesn't
- 14:54Speaker 1: fit into a round hole. So continuing to say it
- 14:58Speaker 1: that much shouldn't be a revelation, but maybe it is
- 15:03Speaker 1: if you're insinuating that the previous head coach was the
- 15:06Speaker 1: reason you were putting square pegs into round holes. Or again,
- 15:10Speaker 1: the big one for me is being talking about the
- 15:15Speaker 1: tier difference in picking guys in the draft, and again,
- 15:19Speaker 1: if you have his exact example was like, if you
- 15:21Speaker 1: have two guys who value a ten million dollars or
- 15:24Speaker 1: two guys that both have around two grade, sure pick
- 15:26Speaker 1: the one that fits the scheme a little better. But
- 15:29Speaker 1: if you've got someone who's tiers above another guy, you
- 15:33Speaker 1: should pick that guy because he's the better football player.
- 15:35Speaker 1: But not that's apparently it wasn't what was happening. Apparently
- 15:40Speaker 1: they were valuing the scheme fit more than just getting
- 15:44Speaker 1: good football players. And if you're trying to put two
- 15:46Speaker 1: and two together, it would seem that that is because
- 15:50Speaker 1: of Sean McDermott. I just found that interesting how they
- 15:54Speaker 1: continue to drive that home throughout the entire thing, you know,
- 15:57Speaker 1: And that was a very specific example, and he mentioned
- 15:59Speaker 1: it in for agency too, kind of not being like
- 16:02Speaker 1: locked in to picking certain guys, and how refreshing Jim
- 16:08Speaker 1: Leonard's you know, hearing Jim Leonards approach right of you know,
- 16:12Speaker 1: versatility and make the best with what we have and
- 16:16Speaker 1: not fit the square peg into a round hole. Hearing
- 16:18Speaker 1: how and be noting how refreshing it was to hear
- 16:22Speaker 1: that and then not feeling forced on player moves and
- 16:26Speaker 1: or having to pass on guys in free agency or
- 16:29Speaker 1: the draft. I thought that seemed very notable. I thought
- 16:34Speaker 1: that seemed very purposeful and also somewhat questionable because you're
- 16:40Speaker 1: the GM, right, but we know, we know how much
- 16:44Speaker 1: collaboration happened between Sean McDermott and Brandon Bean that this
- 16:48Speaker 1: to me signaled from a Joe Brady perspective and a
- 16:51Speaker 1: Brandon Bean perspective, that they felt that under Sean McDermott
- 16:57Speaker 1: they were making moves that didn't necessarily grab the best
- 17:00Speaker 1: football players. They were making moves purely on scheme, purely
- 17:04Speaker 1: on archetype, purely on fit, and it was forcing them
- 17:08Speaker 1: into some avenues that they didn't want to go into, which,
- 17:12Speaker 1: again I think if we're taking a step back from
- 17:15Speaker 1: the granular and looking at the bigger picture and the
- 17:18Speaker 1: bigger perspective again, I just find all this so muddy
- 17:22Speaker 1: with Brandon Bean and Sean McDermott. I think Sean McDermott
- 17:25Speaker 1: is so is very culpable for the shortcomings and the
- 17:28Speaker 1: failures of this Bill's team. Right, You cannot say that
- 17:31Speaker 1: he's not right. I think Sean McDermott has been an
- 17:34Speaker 1: integral part of the Bill's success in his tenure. I
- 17:37Speaker 1: also think he's been an integral part of their shortcomings.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And I think within that Brandon Bean is very culpable
- 17:48Speaker 1: for the shortcomings and for the successes. And again, I
- 17:52Speaker 1: just think there's so much muddiness in the being and
- 17:55Speaker 1: McDermott era in terms of the successes and the failures
- 17:58Speaker 1: that to continue to paint it like was all on
- 18:00Speaker 1: Sean McDermott, I just find it very very interesting. And
- 18:04Speaker 1: even this this comment from Ron Ron saying I think
- 18:06Speaker 1: the Keon pick was the straw that broke the camel's back.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I just get the impression that Bean didn't want to
- 18:10Speaker 1: draft Keon, but was a team player and picked him
- 18:13Speaker 1: because mcdee's staff wanted him. So that's fair. My takeaway
- 18:17Speaker 1: from that is I do agree. I do based on
- 18:20Speaker 1: what we heard in the pressers and what Terry bo
- 18:21Speaker 1: Bouas said, I don't think Brandon Bean was pounding the
- 18:24Speaker 1: table for Keon Coleman. I think, you know, if he
- 18:27Speaker 1: was super uncomfortable with it, like he said, he's the
- 18:29Speaker 1: one hand in the pick in he's not making any
- 18:31Speaker 1: pick if he's not on board with it and doesn't
- 18:33Speaker 1: think that person can succeed with their football team. But
- 18:37Speaker 1: I think that pick was more of a Joe Brady pick.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And Joe Brady's talked about how much he's like Keon.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I was gonna say, and RJ said in the comment
- 18:46Speaker 1: Adam Henry and Joe Brady wanted Keon. I don't think
- 18:49Speaker 1: Keon was a Sean McDermott decision. I think that was
- 18:52Speaker 1: a Joe Brady decision. And again you look at that
- 18:56Speaker 1: right there, there's no way. I shouldn't say no way,
- 18:59Speaker 1: right because there is a you can't tell me or
- 19:02Speaker 1: it'd be hard to tell me that Joe Brady passing
- 19:06Speaker 1: game coordinator, wide receiver background, all this stuff. If we're
- 19:11Speaker 1: indicating that that was more of a coaching staff pick,
- 19:13Speaker 1: that to me would say it's a Joe Brady pick.
- 19:15Speaker 1: It's more of a Joe Brady pick than it is
- 19:17Speaker 1: a Sean McDermott pick. Now, did Sean McDermott not want
- 19:20Speaker 1: that pick? Did he bang the table just as much
- 19:22Speaker 1: as Brady? Again, we're never gonna get these kind of
- 19:25Speaker 1: peeks behind the curtain, but I just think it's another Again,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I think this question goes to that overall point. There's
- 19:32Speaker 1: so much muddiness still, and I think Bean, whether purposefully
- 19:38Speaker 1: or not, is doing a good job in these interviews
- 19:43Speaker 1: of continuing to kind of like allude to that was
- 19:48Speaker 1: Shawn's fault, like, oh, man, I couldn't I couldn't really
- 19:51Speaker 1: sign the guys I wanted to. I couldn't really draft
- 19:53Speaker 1: the guys I wanted to. Man. But instead of saying that,
- 19:56Speaker 1: you know, he's more like, uh, you know, it's so
- 19:59Speaker 1: refre to hear this new reproach. Man, it's so nice
- 20:03Speaker 1: to not have to feel like forced into certain player
- 20:06Speaker 1: moves or having to pass on guys in free agency
- 20:10Speaker 1: or the draft. And then you know, like Crystal Chris
- 20:14Speaker 1: Brown from One Bill's Live asked being that question, and
- 20:17Speaker 1: Chris Brown is literally using verbiage like, oh, it's nice
- 20:19Speaker 1: to not feel like hardcore forced into a one direction,
- 20:22Speaker 1: into one direction based on body type or weight or
- 20:25Speaker 1: size or this and that, and you know that one
- 20:28Speaker 1: Bill's Live is a mouthpiece for the Bill's team. So
- 20:31Speaker 1: you know that question was asked the kind of tee
- 20:34Speaker 1: that up. And I'm not trying to do Charlie from
- 20:39Speaker 1: Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Pepe, Sylvia. And I got
- 20:41Speaker 1: my whole board and I'm pointing to everything, and I've
- 20:44Speaker 1: realized that there is no Carol in HR before Mac
- 20:47Speaker 1: tells me, not only do all these people work here,
- 20:49Speaker 1: but they've been asking about their mail for weeks. I'm
- 20:51Speaker 1: not trying to be Charlie Kelly right now. That's not
- 20:53Speaker 1: what I think we're going. But I think they are continuing,
- 20:58Speaker 1: whether rightly or wrongly, And again I do think Ian
- 21:00Speaker 1: McDermott deserves blame. They are continuing to put as much
- 21:04Speaker 1: of the shortcomings and previous failures on Sean McDermott as possible.
- 21:07Speaker 1: It's not just the off the it's not just the
- 21:10Speaker 1: on field execution or in game management or decisions or
- 21:14Speaker 1: development or coaching or anything like that. They're putting moves,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know, player development bean is is you know kind
- 21:22Speaker 1: of wink wink, nudge, nudge, indicating sometimes a little more
- 21:26Speaker 1: explicitly sometimes implicitly that yeah, you know, the roster moves
- 21:32Speaker 1: were kind of essentially Sean McDermott. And it's just funny
- 21:36Speaker 1: how the stories continue to grow. And again, for all
- 21:39Speaker 1: we know, that could be completely right Sean McDermott, cause
- 21:41Speaker 1: that had seventy percent of the control and Bean's hands
- 21:44Speaker 1: were tied. Right. Yes, Bean's the one signing off on
- 21:47Speaker 1: the draft picks and the contracts and all this stuff
- 21:50Speaker 1: and the acquisitions, But maybe Sean McDermott really was running
- 21:53Speaker 1: the show and his hands were super tied. Maybe it
- 21:55Speaker 1: wasn't as much collaboration as we think it is. But
- 21:58Speaker 1: I think I'm still gonna keep beating this going forward.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think both of their hands are bloody. I think
- 22:02Speaker 1: both of these guys were culpable in the shortcomings and
- 22:05Speaker 1: the failures of this team. And it's really interesting again
- 22:08Speaker 1: to see how this organization has I don't want to
- 22:13Speaker 1: say scapego because that makes it seem like Sean McDermott was,
- 22:18Speaker 1: you know, blameless, But they are doing some work and
- 22:22Speaker 1: kind of continuing to lay it at Sean McDermott's feet.
- 22:24Speaker 1: And again, Brandon Bean in that in that clip talking
- 22:28Speaker 1: about you know those These are the things I'm talking
- 22:31Speaker 1: about too. Right, when when you ask someone a question
- 22:34Speaker 1: and they give a specific example like that, right, Like,
- 22:37Speaker 1: he's not picking that example out of thin air. He's
- 22:40Speaker 1: not bringing that example of drafting guys and giving an
- 22:44Speaker 1: example where yeah, if you have a similar greater value
- 22:47Speaker 1: on guys, sure take the one that fits better, but
- 22:50Speaker 1: don't pass on a better player for someone you know
- 22:53Speaker 1: who's significantly lower but fits a little better. And he
- 22:55Speaker 1: gives a dramatic difference between his hands. He's not pulling
- 22:59Speaker 1: that out of thin air. That to me indicates that
- 23:02Speaker 1: that happened or that's what he's trying to push. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: I think there have been a lot of questionable draft
- 23:09Speaker 1: picks for the Bills over the years. I am someone
- 23:12Speaker 1: who again, everybody has has what they like. You could
- 23:16Speaker 1: ask ten different evaluators to evaluate the same guy and
- 23:19Speaker 1: you'll get ten different evaluations. People great differently. People gravitate
- 23:22Speaker 1: towards different skill sets, traits, play styles, anything and everything. Right,
- 23:27Speaker 1: That's why evaluation is not a fine science. That's why
- 23:30Speaker 1: it is. There's some objectivity too, but there's a lot
- 23:33Speaker 1: of subjectivity to it and some arbitrary kind of nature
- 23:37Speaker 1: baked in. But I found myself over the years where
- 23:41Speaker 1: they kind of looking at picks and just being like
- 23:44Speaker 1: why that guy, Like these other guys just seem like
- 23:46Speaker 1: much better players, Like why not take one of these guys?
- 23:49Speaker 1: And not that every one of those guys I said
- 23:51Speaker 1: that for always worked out, But it is interesting to
- 23:54Speaker 1: see Brandon Bean paint that in that light and give
- 23:57Speaker 1: that specific example that to me indicates that's civic example
- 24:00Speaker 1: happened and you could see the look on his face
- 24:02Speaker 1: and his vocal you know, his tone changes a little
- 24:06Speaker 1: bit and kind of Brandon Bean and I think especially
- 24:14Speaker 1: with Sean McDermott, but I feel like the Bills organization
- 24:16Speaker 1: was always very tight lipped about most things. Not a
- 24:19Speaker 1: lot of things got out right. I remember this Von
- 24:21Speaker 1: Digs trade, and somebody in the check can correct me
- 24:23Speaker 1: if I'm wrong, but that's the Fon Diggs trade. There
- 24:26Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of smoke before that happened. Like that
- 24:29Speaker 1: came out of nowhere. I think I was. I was
- 24:31Speaker 1: playing God of War and all of a sudden I
- 24:33Speaker 1: got a text from somebody that was like, Yo, what
- 24:34Speaker 1: do you think of Dig's going to the Bills, And
- 24:36Speaker 1: all of a sudden, It just dropped. There wasn't these
- 24:38Speaker 1: rumors that the Bills are going to make a big
- 24:40Speaker 1: move and go for digs. It just happened. And I
- 24:44Speaker 1: think being a McDermott have always been very purposeful with
- 24:46Speaker 1: what they've said and how they've said it. We started
- 24:48Speaker 1: to see that change a little bit, right, Like people
- 24:50Speaker 1: are kind of digging into McDermott's pressers throughout the year
- 24:52Speaker 1: and maybe he's throwing a shot at Brady and maybe
- 24:54Speaker 1: he's throwing a shot at Bean And now we you know,
- 24:59Speaker 1: continued to get these breadcrumbs and these insights in pressers
- 25:03Speaker 1: and interviews, you know, whether it's on one Bill's Live
- 25:08Speaker 1: that is very much a Bill's production and a Bill's mouthpiece,
- 25:11Speaker 1: or some of the other pieces it is. It is
- 25:16Speaker 1: very interesting to see how they're continuing to paint this
- 25:19Speaker 1: and who knows. They could be completely right, and there's
- 25:21Speaker 1: a multitude of avenues that we could go forward here with. Right,
- 25:25Speaker 1: McDermott could be completely to blame and the Bills take
- 25:29Speaker 1: off and this move was for the better. Right, McDermott
- 25:32Speaker 1: could be completely to blame and the bottom falls out
- 25:35Speaker 1: and things actually get worse, even though McDermott was the blame, right,
- 25:38Speaker 1: or things could just happen to get better and McDermott
- 25:42Speaker 1: wasn't really the problem, or McDermott wasn't really the problem,
- 25:44Speaker 1: but things get worse, Like there are so many directions
- 25:47Speaker 1: this can go in. But it's funny how they how
- 25:52Speaker 1: for as much collaboration exists in building an organization, especially
- 25:57Speaker 1: with the Bills, especially with how Being and McDermott had
- 25:59Speaker 1: been and how Being has even spoken to it. He
- 26:01Speaker 1: mentioned how much collaboration there was in moves and him
- 26:04Speaker 1: and Sean, and he even referenced like they never really
- 26:07Speaker 1: fell out of lockstep, like yeah, you have guys who
- 26:09Speaker 1: have different thoughts and opinions, but they move together. He's
- 26:11Speaker 1: even said it as much in this offseason. But then
- 26:13Speaker 1: at the same time kind of speaking on the other
- 26:15Speaker 1: side of his mouth and given these little indications of like, yeah, yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 1: this is what I'm saying, but I really want you
- 26:21Speaker 1: to read between the lines, and it was Sean's fault,
- 26:23Speaker 1: like I couldn't really do anything about it, Like oh man,
- 26:26Speaker 1: it's so refreshing to have this new reproach and or
- 26:29Speaker 1: approach and multiplicity and you know, finding the best spots
- 26:34Speaker 1: for guys, and you know, being in a great situation
- 26:37Speaker 1: and refreshing all these this verbiage and this tone and
- 26:41Speaker 1: the body language and everything that they're kind of just
- 26:44Speaker 1: being like, no, this previous thing was bad, so let's
- 26:47Speaker 1: attach as many bad things to it as we can.
- 26:49Speaker 1: It's almost a little bit like, you know, somebody at
- 26:51Speaker 1: your job got fired and then you get asked a
- 26:53Speaker 1: question of like, oh, did you did you finish that project?
- 26:56Speaker 1: And you were supposed to do it. But instead of
- 26:58Speaker 1: being like, oh, no, I didn't do the project, you're like, well,
- 27:01Speaker 1: Timmy just got fired. And you're like, you know what,
- 27:03Speaker 1: Timmy was supposed to do it and he didn't do it.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And then your boss was like, oh, Timmy, man, could
- 27:09Speaker 1: you do me a favor and do that project. You're like, yeah, yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I got it. I got it. But in your head,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you know, you were like, oh, I can just throw
- 27:14Speaker 1: Timmy under the bus because he's not here anymore. And
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think there's a little bit of that happening here.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But it's just it's just too interesting that you continue
- 27:22Speaker 1: to get best football players, just get the best football players,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Just get the best football players, and then talking about
- 27:28Speaker 1: scheme and talking about that tier difference between players and
- 27:31Speaker 1: not being forced into moves, not being locked into moves,
- 27:36Speaker 1: not having to pass on certain guys. Like that type
- 27:40Speaker 1: of verbiage is interesting. It's not well, you have to
- 27:43Speaker 1: pass on guys because they cost too much or the
- 27:44Speaker 1: finances aren't right, you have to pass on guys. Brandon
- 27:49Speaker 1: Bean is saying he had to pass on guys because
- 27:53Speaker 1: they weren't the right scheme fit. But he's saying it
- 27:55Speaker 1: in a way that he regrets that, like he wanted
- 27:58Speaker 1: to make that move anyway. Very interesting how they continue
- 28:02Speaker 1: to dive into this and how we're going to continue
- 28:03Speaker 1: to see things unfold. I think the fan base is
- 28:07Speaker 1: kind of still split on everything, and with what being
- 28:10Speaker 1: keeps talking about, we'll kind of see what happens. But yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 1: that was that was the biggest theme in bread Crumb
- 28:15Speaker 1: today from Joe Brady. They both spoke about it. You,
- 28:18Speaker 1: if you watch the pressers, if you listen anything, you
- 28:20Speaker 1: are going to continue to get that same verbage of
- 28:22Speaker 1: you know, get the best football players, Just get the
- 28:25Speaker 1: best football players. That's all we want to do, YadA YadA,
- 28:29Speaker 1: And then he gives and then Brandon Bean gives that
- 28:32Speaker 1: that kind of draft room insight from something from previous years.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I think they are again whether being whether Bean is blameless,
- 28:40Speaker 1: whether he deserves more of the blame for McDermott, Whether
- 28:42Speaker 1: does McDermott really is a fault for everything and everything
- 28:45Speaker 1: with Sean McDermott's fault. I do think they're they're dancing
- 28:49Speaker 1: their way through this offseason of varying between implicitly and
- 28:52Speaker 1: explicitly kind of blaming Sean McDermott for moves that haven't
- 28:57Speaker 1: work out worked out in the past, and Brandon Bean
- 28:59Speaker 1: is now acting as though he has freedom and can
- 29:01Speaker 1: breathe and there's refreshing, you know, refreshing approaches and thoughts
- 29:06Speaker 1: and philosophies coming in and he doesn't feel locked in,
- 29:09Speaker 1: he doesn't feel forced. Yeah, little interesting little nuggets here
- 29:14Speaker 1: and there, And that was that was the biggest theme
- 29:15Speaker 1: and bregrumb from Joe Bradys today. Again, those are that
- 29:18Speaker 1: verbiage echoing throughout different questions, throughout different interviews, throughout different
- 29:23Speaker 1: media sessions, and then tying it in very interesting, very interesting.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Oh and Ralse says, Meanwhile, the reports had McDermott complaining
- 29:33Speaker 1: about the roster months in a meet months ago, in
- 29:35Speaker 1: a meeting with Pagoula and Bean. Why would he do
- 29:37Speaker 1: that if he had such a say on personnel. It's
- 29:42Speaker 1: muddy again. I'm gonna come back to that example of
- 29:46Speaker 1: I still think they had equal not equal, but I
- 29:49Speaker 1: don't know. I can't say Phil was fifty fifty, fifty five,
- 29:52Speaker 1: forty five, sixty forty. I just think they're equally culpable
- 29:54Speaker 1: in what this team was good and bad, right. I
- 29:57Speaker 1: think Brandon Bean had some good. I think Brandon Bean
- 29:59Speaker 1: had some bad. I think Sean McDermott had some good.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I think Sean McDermott had some bad. I think blaming
- 30:04Speaker 1: it any one way or the other on either was wrong.
- 30:07Speaker 1: I don't think it was holistically Bean's fault. I don't
- 30:09Speaker 1: think it was holistically McDermott's fault. I'm gonna keep saying it.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I think if one got fired, the other should get
- 30:14Speaker 1: fired because both of their hands are bloody, both of
- 30:16Speaker 1: their hands are messy. Everything was muddy and interconnected, and
- 30:22Speaker 1: I just don't think you can parse who was you know,
- 30:26Speaker 1: we don't know if it was. You know, sometimes Sean
- 30:29Speaker 1: McDermott was cooking the meal. Well, Sean mcdermot's always cooking
- 30:31Speaker 1: the meal, but sometimes he was maybe buying the ingredients
- 30:35Speaker 1: or maybe Braindon Bean was also buying more ingredients or
- 30:38Speaker 1: buying just as much or also buying them. I don't know,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. But
- 30:44Speaker 1: it's Meddi Mehdi. I guess Meddy messy and Moddy is
- 30:47Speaker 1: combined together. But yeah, everything, I just think everything's so
- 30:50Speaker 1: interconnected and they're equally culpable. But we'll find out. I'm
- 30:53Speaker 1: also really excited for Jim Leonard, not so much for
- 30:55Speaker 1: other things with the team, but we will see. Some
- 30:59Speaker 1: other takeaway from Brandon Bean speaking with the media today,
- 31:04Speaker 1: so just some little nuggets here and there. He was
- 31:08Speaker 1: asked about Keon Coleman again and he reiterated and echoed
- 31:12Speaker 1: what he has said before. You know that someone asked him,
- 31:15Speaker 1: you know what do you what more do you need
- 31:17Speaker 1: to see from Keon in order to trust him going
- 31:19Speaker 1: forward in the long term, and he boiled it down
- 31:22Speaker 1: to similar things he said this off season of you know,
- 31:26Speaker 1: Keon needs to have the off season that he had
- 31:27Speaker 1: last year where he came uh, he came to practice
- 31:31Speaker 1: and came into camp, dialed in and in great shape.
- 31:34Speaker 1: He had an excellent camp. Let's do that again and
- 31:37Speaker 1: show more off the field maturity being mentioned, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 1: he's seen that many times getting the way of people's
- 31:44Speaker 1: opportunities to grow. So he wants Keon to do everything
- 31:47Speaker 1: he did all off season and camp last year, and
- 31:50Speaker 1: don't let maturity issues off the field affect the product
- 31:54Speaker 1: on the field. I think Keon Coleman's journey and trajectory.
- 32:00Speaker 1: It's funny. The real question and is whose hands were
- 32:02Speaker 1: the muddiest h I don't know. Again for me, they're
- 32:06Speaker 1: equally culpable. I think there were times where Sean McDermott
- 32:10Speaker 1: wasn't cooking the best meal, but I also think Brandon
- 32:13Speaker 1: Bean had a significant hand in the ingredients that were
- 32:17Speaker 1: bought right. It's it's hard to cook an amazing steak
- 32:24Speaker 1: when you're not getting good cuts of beef right, or
- 32:29Speaker 1: like you can't you can't make mashed potatoes if somebody
- 32:31Speaker 1: only buys you green beans, you know. I think that
- 32:35Speaker 1: was happening some. And then I also think there were
- 32:37Speaker 1: times where Brandon Bean was maybe getting some good potatoes
- 32:40Speaker 1: and Sean McDermott was, or maybe Brandon Bean was buying
- 32:44Speaker 1: lesser quality potatoes for the mashed potatoes because those were
- 32:48Speaker 1: the potato Sean McDermott wanted, and if it was up
- 32:51Speaker 1: to him, he would have bought better potatoes. Again, I
- 32:54Speaker 1: think it's all muddy. I think it's all messy. I
- 32:56Speaker 1: think they're pretty equally culpable, or at worst, it's fifty
- 32:59Speaker 1: five forty one way or the other. And that doesn't
- 33:01Speaker 1: mean the Bills won't be better for this move going forward.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It doesn't mean they won't be worse, doesn't mean they
- 33:06Speaker 1: won't stay the same. I just think it's too hard
- 33:09Speaker 1: to parse, and I think they are significantly culpable, each
- 33:14Speaker 1: of them. Charles says, h Kean's gonna be a slant
- 33:18Speaker 1: boy and it's gonna be awesome this coment Erniko he
- 33:22Speaker 1: was buying team with potatoes. He might have been. That's funny.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Big Charles's big slot time for Keon. Noah says this
- 33:27Speaker 1: will be Keon's last season in Buffalo, who could traded
- 33:29Speaker 1: next offseason for a late round pick. I'm interested to
- 33:32Speaker 1: see what happens with Keon. Oh. And also this is
- 33:36Speaker 1: a good point too. I wanted to go back to
- 33:38Speaker 1: this coming from k Morny who said, on the bright side,
- 33:39Speaker 1: if they fired Bean two, who's leading the coaching search Pagoula.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I think that is a very fair point. Like anybody
- 33:46Speaker 1: who's watched the Sabers and is known that Terry Pagoula
- 33:49Speaker 1: has been running that team, They've been a dumpster fire
- 33:52Speaker 1: for a very very, very very long time. So I
- 33:54Speaker 1: think there is something to be said for you know,
- 33:57Speaker 1: I would much rather have Brandon Bean the ship then
- 34:01Speaker 1: Terry Pagula like, but that's like asking I don't know,
- 34:09Speaker 1: would you rather have like some food you don't like,
- 34:12Speaker 1: or would you rather get punched in your face and
- 34:14Speaker 1: break your nose? Like I don't really want either of
- 34:16Speaker 1: those things, but of course like I don't, I don't
- 34:18Speaker 1: want to get punched in the face and have my
- 34:19Speaker 1: nose broken. But that is a fair point. I do
- 34:22Speaker 1: think that is a fair point. But yeah, some pieces
- 34:26Speaker 1: from Bean, and again talking about Jim Leonard kept talking
- 34:32Speaker 1: about this. You know, we've seen this theme, you know,
- 34:33Speaker 1: talk about one of the attractive pieces that Jim brought
- 34:36Speaker 1: with the multiplicity and the different variations and going more
- 34:39Speaker 1: to a five down front and a three four scheme.
- 34:43Speaker 1: But the great things you know, one of the great
- 34:45Speaker 1: things about Jim, and I think something that was very
- 34:47Speaker 1: relieving and or refreshing to our personnel staff was when
- 34:50Speaker 1: he sat in there with Brady and again talked about
- 34:53Speaker 1: just get good football players. So again he kept bringing
- 34:55Speaker 1: that home in different You know, Brandon Bean, let's just
- 34:58Speaker 1: get good football players. What did Jim Leonard saying his
- 35:00Speaker 1: interview that Brandon Bean says, Jim Leonard said, let's just
- 35:03Speaker 1: get good football players. What is Brandon Bean, what is
- 35:05Speaker 1: Joe Brady saying a whole bunch Let's just get good
- 35:08Speaker 1: football players. So continuing to drive that message throughout, throughout throughout,
- 35:13Speaker 1: and then he also Brandon Bean also touched a little
- 35:15Speaker 1: bit on John Fox, which I thought was interesting because
- 35:17Speaker 1: I know some people on the show here had some
- 35:18Speaker 1: questions about that. Last week or maybe a couple of
- 35:22Speaker 1: weeks ago, Brandy Bean spoke about John Fox and he
- 35:26Speaker 1: said John Fox was straight up Joe Brady's higher He
- 35:29Speaker 1: said that being Bean said, he connected Joe Brady and
- 35:32Speaker 1: John Fox, and then Brady met with him, like the
- 35:34Speaker 1: three of them met together like as a leadership staff.
- 35:36Speaker 1: But then Brady continued to meet with Fox on his
- 35:39Speaker 1: own and then After he did that, he circled back
- 35:42Speaker 1: with Bean and asked for John Fox to be brought
- 35:45Speaker 1: on the staff. And then kind of, I don't know,
- 35:48Speaker 1: gave some GM speak and some coach speak of you know,
- 35:51Speaker 1: he's coached for sixteen seasons, he's been to two Super Bowls,
- 35:53Speaker 1: he's been around the block. You know, he's seen a
- 35:55Speaker 1: lot of football. Yahda YadA, all those kind of things
- 35:57Speaker 1: that you hear anytime you had a veteran presence. But
- 36:01Speaker 1: Being did say that adding John Fox was Joe Brady's call.
- 36:05Speaker 1: He connected Brady and Fox, but Brady was the one
- 36:08Speaker 1: who came back and said, yeah, I want this guy.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I want to hire this guy. Also, Brandon Bean talked
- 36:12Speaker 1: about some salary cap things today. I know this was
- 36:16Speaker 1: reported by several folks. Spencer Brown Buffle bill starting right tackle,
- 36:21Speaker 1: was restructured to day. Brandon Bean said that move will
- 36:24Speaker 1: save a little over ten million dollars, specifically said it'd
- 36:28Speaker 1: be like ten point four. And then in doing some
- 36:31Speaker 1: some digging into salary cap table and things for the Bills,
- 36:35Speaker 1: Brown's previous cap hit, this is me saying this for
- 36:40Speaker 1: this year was originally scheduled to be nineteen point three
- 36:43Speaker 1: million dollars. With the restructure, it's brought down to about
- 36:46Speaker 1: eight point nine. Now Spencer Brown has cap hits pretty
- 36:51Speaker 1: substantially in a coming years twenty two point five seven
- 36:54Speaker 1: to eight in twenty twenty seven, twenty four point seven
- 36:57Speaker 1: two eight in twenty twenty eight, and then a five
- 37:00Speaker 1: point seven to nine to eight void year in twenty
- 37:03Speaker 1: twenty nine and a two point five nine to eight
- 37:05Speaker 1: void year in twenty thirty. So again some levers already
- 37:12Speaker 1: being pulled for some salary cap things. Roughly ten million
- 37:16Speaker 1: dollars cleared with the restructure of Spencer Brown to day.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Something else player related that Brandon Bean spoke about today.
- 37:24Speaker 1: He was asked about Dalton Kincaid and his fifth year option,
- 37:29Speaker 1: which I thought, again, nothing too crazy, but when speaking
- 37:33Speaker 1: about it, you know, he said, we're he said, we'll
- 37:37Speaker 1: knock out his fifth year options sometime this spring. The
- 37:40Speaker 1: production for the offense was significantly better with him on
- 37:42Speaker 1: the field, him being out there, the asset that he
- 37:45Speaker 1: brings and the dimension the defense has to defend. And
- 37:49Speaker 1: then he said this exact quote, Our number one thing
- 37:52Speaker 1: with Dalton is to see if we can get him
- 37:54Speaker 1: in a healthier fashion this year so that we don't
- 37:57Speaker 1: have to a miss games and then be limit how
- 38:01Speaker 1: much he's playing. And he's been he meaning Dalton, and
- 38:04Speaker 1: he's been very intentional about that as well. And then
- 38:08Speaker 1: he said some other things that ended up was saying
- 38:09Speaker 1: at some point will definitely pick up his fifth year.
- 38:12Speaker 1: So as Noah says, yeah, the Kincaid extension feels inevitable,
- 38:16Speaker 1: so they are going to pick up his fifth year option.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I don't think that's crazy. I only hesitancy in picking
- 38:23Speaker 1: up the fifth year option for Dalton. Kinkaid is twofold
- 38:25Speaker 1: one and braindon beat spoke to it today. Right, the injuries,
- 38:28Speaker 1: he just seems very injury prone. And this even goes
- 38:30Speaker 1: back to his time coming out of Utah, right, you know,
- 38:33Speaker 1: he got hurt in that final season at Utah. He
- 38:35Speaker 1: did not really test at the Combine or do much
- 38:38Speaker 1: from an offseason workout or testing perspective because he was
- 38:42Speaker 1: hurt and recovering from an injury. He's been banged up
- 38:45Speaker 1: each year for the Bills so far, I think as
- 38:50Speaker 1: a significant hindrance. Again to proverbial, the best ability is availability.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Kincaid's availability has been limited, and especially for somebody who
- 38:57Speaker 1: isn't the most and I'm not saying this in a
- 39:02Speaker 1: super negative way, but he's not in the most physical
- 39:05Speaker 1: role for a tight end. This isn't somebody who's like
- 39:08Speaker 1: he's always on the attached to the line of scrimmage, right,
- 39:10Speaker 1: he's always blocking. Oh, you know, he got rolled up
- 39:13Speaker 1: on a run play and that's why he hurt his
- 39:15Speaker 1: ankle or his knee or his whatever. Right, he got
- 39:17Speaker 1: caught in a pile or you know, somebody ran into
- 39:20Speaker 1: him again, rolled up on him. Anything where you're kind
- 39:22Speaker 1: of like in the trenches, you're getting hit on every
- 39:25Speaker 1: single play. It's a mask. Guy's are stepping on one another,
- 39:28Speaker 1: getting tied up, joints are getting locked, all that kind
- 39:30Speaker 1: of stuff. Right, he doesn't play that kind of tight
- 39:33Speaker 1: end role. He is essentially a big wide receiver. And
- 39:36Speaker 1: him continuing to get these injuries various, you know, whether
- 39:38Speaker 1: it's soft muscle stuff, whether it's ligament stuff, bone stuff,
- 39:44Speaker 1: it's worrisome with Dalon Kinkaid. So that's my hesitation in
- 39:47Speaker 1: picking up his fifth year option. That and as I mentioned,
- 39:53Speaker 1: you can't line him up in line, right, you can't
- 39:55Speaker 1: do what you do with knocks or haws with Dalton Kincaid.
- 39:58Speaker 1: You can right you, you can line him up in line,
- 40:01Speaker 1: but you're gonna run away from him. Like so that's
- 40:03Speaker 1: a tell. If you're lining him up next to Spencer
- 40:05Speaker 1: Brown on the right side of the line, the defense
- 40:07Speaker 1: knows or can think or know one to two things.
- 40:11Speaker 1: They're either running away from Dalton Kincaid and we've seen
- 40:14Speaker 1: that a bunch right. Let's line up Kincaid attached to
- 40:16Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage or hipped off, and let's run
- 40:19Speaker 1: mid zone away from him. So defense either knows that
- 40:23Speaker 1: the run is going away from Kincaid or if it
- 40:26Speaker 1: is going to Kincaid, that's advantage defense because he can't
- 40:30Speaker 1: hold up against a defensive end right. He's not gonna
- 40:32Speaker 1: be able to base block a guy down or a
- 40:34Speaker 1: base block a guy and be able to anchor and
- 40:37Speaker 1: drive or move. Your best hope with him blocking attached
- 40:40Speaker 1: to the line of scrimmage is you run zone and
- 40:43Speaker 1: he's able to wash a guy down, which he has.
- 40:45Speaker 1: We've seen him wash down some defensive ends or some
- 40:47Speaker 1: linebackers or bigger dudes, but he's not set to kind
- 40:52Speaker 1: of block at the point of attack. If he's on
- 40:54Speaker 1: the right side you're not running towards him in really
- 40:56Speaker 1: any fashion. It could be duo. It could even be
- 41:00Speaker 1: if you want to run like a little crack toss
- 41:01Speaker 1: type of action and you want to ask him to
- 41:03Speaker 1: pin that defensive end inside. I think that's a bit
- 41:06Speaker 1: of a questionable ask. But from Brandon Bean's indication, they
- 41:10Speaker 1: are going to pick up that fifth year option, I
- 41:12Speaker 1: don't think that's egregious. I don't think that's crazy. You know,
- 41:15Speaker 1: he is a very important part of the passing game.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I think he is a mismatch creator. There's just limitations
- 41:20Speaker 1: to what you can do with him because you don't
- 41:24Speaker 1: want him lining up in line and he's hurt a bunch.
- 41:27Speaker 1: And then to Bean's point, right, he's either missing games
- 41:30Speaker 1: or he's playing, but he's playing and you have to
- 41:34Speaker 1: have him on a pitch count because you can't play
- 41:36Speaker 1: him a ton because he's banged up where he goes
- 41:37Speaker 1: out and he gets hit and he has to go
- 41:39Speaker 1: to the sideline kind of recover for a little bit
- 41:41Speaker 1: and then go out there. Injury concerns are fair, and
- 41:44Speaker 1: as Charles mentions, yeah, picking up Kincaid a roughly nine
- 41:47Speaker 1: million is easy. The nineteenth highest paid tight end right now. Yeah,
- 41:50Speaker 1: he's not resetting the market. They're not signing him to
- 41:53Speaker 1: some crazy extension and you know, late round pick in
- 41:56Speaker 1: the first round you pick up that fifth year option.
- 41:58Speaker 1: He's been important. Hopefully he turns the corner from health perspective,
- 42:02Speaker 1: because I don't I don't think he's going to become
- 42:06Speaker 1: a solid inline blocker. I don't think he's ever going
- 42:11Speaker 1: to become that. So your best hope for him to
- 42:14Speaker 1: provide you value is staying healthy so you can use
- 42:17Speaker 1: him as a pass catcher like that. That's what it is.
- 42:20Speaker 1: And then again, I think Kinkaid is a domino effect
- 42:22Speaker 1: for the passing game because the deficiencies of the wide
- 42:26Speaker 1: receiver room are put under a magnifying glass even more
- 42:31Speaker 1: when Dalton Kinkaid isn't healthy. When Kinkaid is healthy, it's like, Okay,
- 42:35Speaker 1: you have not the most ideal wide receiver room, but
- 42:39Speaker 1: you got Dalon Kkaid who's a mismatch creator and who
- 42:41Speaker 1: has a good rapport with Alan, and Alan throws at
- 42:43Speaker 1: the anticipation to Kincaid and can read his body movements
- 42:46Speaker 1: you know, pretty well for the most part, at least
- 42:49Speaker 1: better than anyone else. He has even probably better than Shakir.
- 42:54Speaker 1: But yeah, I think the best hope for Kincaid really
- 42:58Speaker 1: becoming a consistent play you're down in and down out,
- 43:01Speaker 1: game in and game out, season in, season out, is
- 43:04Speaker 1: really tied to his health. He's not going to become
- 43:07Speaker 1: even an adequate inline blocker. I don't think that's in
- 43:11Speaker 1: the cards for him, and I don't think that's the
- 43:13Speaker 1: worst thing in the world, right. I don't think that
- 43:15Speaker 1: was necessarily in the cards room coming out. You were
- 43:16Speaker 1: hoping that he would just show some effort, be able
- 43:19Speaker 1: to improve a little bit with his technique, and I
- 43:20Speaker 1: think he has to a degree, but he doesn't have
- 43:24Speaker 1: the biggest frame, and I think a lot of it
- 43:27Speaker 1: is just frame frame not frame concerns, but frame limitations,
- 43:31Speaker 1: play style limitations, and then probably being hurt too. Right,
- 43:34Speaker 1: it's hard to be able to block from an inline
- 43:36Speaker 1: perspective when you got a banged up shoulder and a
- 43:38Speaker 1: banged up knee and a hurt this and or hurt that,
- 43:40Speaker 1: and you're trying to block dudes who have I don't know,
- 43:44Speaker 1: twenty to fifty pounds on you, combined with that not
- 43:47Speaker 1: being your forte to begin with. But it looks like
- 43:49Speaker 1: they're gonna pick up as with your option, which it
- 43:53Speaker 1: makes sense, but will kind of see I wanted to grab.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Else is being mentioned extensions as a way to save CAP. Yeah,
- 44:02Speaker 1: you talked about you know, you can do restructures, you
- 44:05Speaker 1: can do extensions, you can release guys, you can trade guys.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And then Charles says, wonder if they extend Knocks or
- 44:12Speaker 1: Torrents both could save CAP. Huh, I'm so torn on
- 44:17Speaker 1: both of these. I think Osiris Torrents has been a
- 44:19Speaker 1: fine player. I don't know if he's somebody I want
- 44:22Speaker 1: to extend. I just don't know how much he's improved
- 44:25Speaker 1: to the point where you're gonna have to pay him
- 44:28Speaker 1: what you're gonna have to pay him. The interior offensive
- 44:31Speaker 1: line market has kind of ouned the past several years,
- 44:35Speaker 1: and dudes are getting paid, like even just going for
- 44:37Speaker 1: the Bills, Like David Edwards's previous contracts were like what
- 44:41Speaker 1: two years? Hold on, let me let me pull this
- 44:43Speaker 1: up right now. His first year was like minuscule, it
- 44:47Speaker 1: was it was pennies. Yeah, that's what I thought I
- 44:49Speaker 1: was gonna say. He signed a two year, six million
- 44:52Speaker 1: dollar deal with the Bills in twenty twenty four, and
- 44:55Speaker 1: I think that was after coming here on a one
- 44:57Speaker 1: year deal in twenty twenty three, where he came for
- 44:59Speaker 1: like one year, like three million or something like that
- 45:01Speaker 1: or two point five million, something really cheap. Edwards signed
- 45:04Speaker 1: a two year, six million dollar deal in twenty twenty four.
- 45:08Speaker 1: You're looking at Edwards now, is a UFA. There's a chance,
- 45:12Speaker 1: not even a chance. I think he's gonna make minimum
- 45:14Speaker 1: like fifteen million dollars a year. That's a huge jump
- 45:18Speaker 1: to go from a contract where you're making three million
- 45:20Speaker 1: dollars average annual value and now you're gonna get like
- 45:23Speaker 1: fifteen million a year. I do think the Bills are
- 45:26Speaker 1: gonna have to commit a decent chunk of change to Torrents.
- 45:29Speaker 1: He does do some things, some good things well, right,
- 45:31Speaker 1: the power to displacement ability, especially in the run game.
- 45:36Speaker 1: You know, he is a maler and a dude who
- 45:38Speaker 1: can people move, which is attractive. So there is some
- 45:41Speaker 1: skill there. There is some talent there. But I just
- 45:44Speaker 1: think the interior offensive line market is so crazy, Like
- 45:47Speaker 1: I don't want to pay Osiris Torrants. What I think
- 45:49Speaker 1: you're gonna have to pay Osiris Torrance for me? I
- 45:53Speaker 1: don't I don't think he's progressed enough as a player.
- 45:55Speaker 1: We'll see what he does this year, But then who knows.
- 45:57Speaker 1: They say he starts bawling out this year, then it's
- 46:00Speaker 1: kind of like, oh, now his price just went up,
- 46:01Speaker 1: versus if you extended him now and kind of bet
- 46:03Speaker 1: on him or bet on yourself. I think Osiris Torrens
- 46:06Speaker 1: is more of the classic Bills move where they extend
- 46:10Speaker 1: somebody because he's one of their own, or they extend
- 46:13Speaker 1: somebody to make some cap space, and then it's to
- 46:16Speaker 1: move like three years from now. That looks really ugly
- 46:18Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, I can't believe we have to
- 46:20Speaker 1: pay this player this much. So I Torrens. I'm fine
- 46:25Speaker 1: with him as a player. I don't want to pay
- 46:27Speaker 1: him what I think he's going to get on the market.
- 46:29Speaker 1: I don't want to pay him the interior offensive line
- 46:31Speaker 1: balloon money that they're getting right now. Knox Hugh Knox
- 46:38Speaker 1: is to Charles's point here saying they did this with
- 46:41Speaker 1: Spencer Brown and got ahead of his boom year when
- 46:43Speaker 1: we weren't a hundred percent sure. Wait another year and
- 46:44Speaker 1: Torrens's price goes way up. This all assumes we lose
- 46:47Speaker 1: Edwards in mc government fair but even with Spencer Brown.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Spencer Brown had a really sick year last year. Right
- 46:53Speaker 1: this year he was injured a whole bunch again, which
- 46:56Speaker 1: was the cause for concern before he signed the extension
- 46:59Speaker 1: and his dipped and he got beat a bunch more
- 47:02Speaker 1: this year. So like, I think Spencer Brown has played
- 47:06Speaker 1: well and you're locked into him now at this point anyway,
- 47:09Speaker 1: But this year that contract extension doesn't look great. Last year,
- 47:13Speaker 1: the contract extension looked awesome. This year Spencer Brown went
- 47:17Speaker 1: back to being hurt and went back to getting beat
- 47:19Speaker 1: more than it got talked about. He's definitely improved. I'm
- 47:23Speaker 1: not saying the extension was a horrible idea, but Spencer
- 47:26Speaker 1: Brown did kind of show some of the concerns that
- 47:29Speaker 1: were had before again a lot of it for him,
- 47:32Speaker 1: similar to Dunton Concaid is the injury piece. Spencer Brown
- 47:34Speaker 1: could never stay healthy his first several years in the league,
- 47:37Speaker 1: and then what did we have again? This year he
- 47:39Speaker 1: was hurt again and that hindered his play, and his
- 47:41Speaker 1: play was hindered in some other areas as well. But
- 47:44Speaker 1: I think that's a fair kind of example to give, right,
- 47:47Speaker 1: you know, and you're gonna be right on some of these.
- 47:49Speaker 1: You're gonna be wrong on some of these. It happens
- 47:51Speaker 1: in all sports, right, You sign a young guy and
- 47:54Speaker 1: let's hope this deal works out. Get out in front
- 47:56Speaker 1: of it. Now, sign this guy to this contract. Man,
- 47:59Speaker 1: what a great value. And then if they don't continue
- 48:01Speaker 1: to you know, get better, if they don't continue to progress,
- 48:04Speaker 1: if they plateau, or if they get worse, then you're
- 48:07Speaker 1: sitting there looking like a fool. Again. It's tough salary,
- 48:10Speaker 1: cap management, contracts, no one projection and player's abilities is tough.
- 48:15Speaker 1: So it did work for them with Spencer Brown, but
- 48:16Speaker 1: again you could also point to that for guys where
- 48:18Speaker 1: it didn't work, where you know you paid I mean
- 48:21Speaker 1: the other example, you paid Dawson Knox in kind of
- 48:24Speaker 1: your your thought process there too where you said, you know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: wonder if they extend k or Knocks or Torrents. We
- 48:29Speaker 1: talked about Torrance, but yeah, I mean they they signed
- 48:31Speaker 1: Knox to that deal, and that was a deal more
- 48:33Speaker 1: of like, Okay, you're betting on this guy to continue
- 48:36Speaker 1: to improve and continue to ascend to this next level,
- 48:39Speaker 1: and he never really did. And now you've got a
- 48:41Speaker 1: guy with a huge cap hit that isn't really working
- 48:43Speaker 1: on you. I think even maybe Greg Russoe could kind
- 48:47Speaker 1: of fall into that as well. I think they paid
- 48:49Speaker 1: Greg Grusoel like an edge, a true edge one, and
- 48:51Speaker 1: I don't think he is that, but I understood paying
- 48:53Speaker 1: him more of that, you know, because it is a
- 48:56Speaker 1: premium position. Knocks the Knox extensions were I've talked about
- 49:00Speaker 1: it before. I don't know if you need Dawson Knox
- 49:04Speaker 1: or at least that skill set. You need someone that
- 49:06Speaker 1: is the bridge between Jackson Hawes and dunt Kin Kid
- 49:09Speaker 1: Dalton Kinkaid can't do the inline blocking stuff, right. Jackson
- 49:13Speaker 1: Hawes can't do the split out wide pass catching stuff.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Even if you think like I do, even if you
- 49:19Speaker 1: think Jackson Hawes can do more as a pass catcher,
- 49:23Speaker 1: he still can't do what Knox can do or what
- 49:26Speaker 1: Kinkaid can do as a pass catcher. Again, Knox can't
- 49:28Speaker 1: do what Kinkaid can do as a route runner and
- 49:30Speaker 1: as a pass catcher. But Hawes can't do what Knox
- 49:33Speaker 1: can do. And then you flip it on the other side.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Knox can't block like haws can, but also Kinkaid can't
- 49:40Speaker 1: block like Knox can so Knox is that light in
- 49:43Speaker 1: the dark. He's you know, he's the day walker there.
- 49:46Speaker 1: He essentially is blade where he splits the gap and
- 49:49Speaker 1: bridges well between Knock or between Hawes and Kincaid. If
- 49:53Speaker 1: you get rid of Knocks, this is my whole like worry, Like,
- 49:58Speaker 1: if you get rid of Knox, you have to replace
- 50:00Speaker 1: him because you need that bridge between those two players,
- 50:04Speaker 1: especially because Dalton k k can't stay healthy. You need
- 50:07Speaker 1: the you need three tight ends you need and because
- 50:10Speaker 1: one of them can't line up in line, one of
- 50:12Speaker 1: them can't line up in the slot or out wide,
- 50:15Speaker 1: and one of them daltonkad gets hurt a ton, So
- 50:20Speaker 1: you need Dawson Knox. But and also to them, he's
- 50:26Speaker 1: like Josh Allen's best friend. Like I feel like that's
- 50:30Speaker 1: also messy, Like I don't know if they would want to.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I mean, their backup quarterback for the past several years
- 50:34Speaker 1: has always just been like, hey, Josh, who's your best friend?
- 50:37Speaker 1: Who or who? Who's a good guy you like that
- 50:39Speaker 1: you just want to have in the quarterback room with you.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And he's like, oh, sweet Mac Partley, Oh sweet Mitch Trubisky, Like,
- 50:43Speaker 1: so let's bring these guys in So I don't know
- 50:46Speaker 1: if Alan would sign off. I'm not saying that this
- 50:48Speaker 1: would happen or he has all this power, but I
- 50:50Speaker 1: don't know if Alan would sign off on Knox getting
- 50:52Speaker 1: cut or released or whatever. But yeah, Knox's cap hit
- 50:56Speaker 1: this year is egregious. I think he is a cut candidate,
- 50:59Speaker 1: but they do need him, so maybe more of an
- 51:01Speaker 1: extension or restructures in the books. I would love him
- 51:04Speaker 1: to take a pay cut, but that's always a tough ask.
- 51:06Speaker 1: But yeah, those are two levers they can pull, should
- 51:10Speaker 1: they choose. I'm just a little hesitant on Torrents, and
- 51:13Speaker 1: especially too if we're comparing Torrents to Brown. I think
- 51:17Speaker 1: the athleticism and the upside for Brown was there. Brown's
- 51:20Speaker 1: thing was always always got this big ceiling. He just
- 51:22Speaker 1: needs more time on task and needs more reps. So
- 51:24Speaker 1: I think you can kind of see that ceiling a
- 51:26Speaker 1: little bit more. Torrance I don't think necessarily has that
- 51:30Speaker 1: because there's not necessarily more time on task that's going
- 51:34Speaker 1: to benefit him. I think his limitations are more frame
- 51:38Speaker 1: trait and skill set based. The same things that I
- 51:40Speaker 1: think limit osiris torrants are the same things that I
- 51:44Speaker 1: think make him a maler in the run game, and
- 51:46Speaker 1: that make him good. So like it's almost a gift
- 51:48Speaker 1: and a curse with him. But I think he's closer
- 51:50Speaker 1: to the final product, if not maybe even already there.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Then he is, Hey, we can pay this guy, and
- 51:56Speaker 1: he's going to continue to get better and continue to
- 51:58Speaker 1: get better. I think as a dude, you just have
- 51:59Speaker 1: to pay and will get paid because the market indicates
- 52:02Speaker 1: that that's where the position is. But I like your thoughts, Charles,
- 52:07Speaker 1: Well done, bum bum bum oh this was what I though.
- 52:12Speaker 1: That was an interesting uh nugget and take away from
- 52:14Speaker 1: Brandon Bean as well. He again he keeps getting asked
- 52:17Speaker 1: about scheme changes with the defense. This was him talking
- 52:19Speaker 1: on One Bills Live. He drops some lines about how
- 52:22Speaker 1: new coaches being brought in see players versus how the
- 52:26Speaker 1: people who are already there see players. But then he
- 52:29Speaker 1: gave some specific examples and he mentioned like conversations about
- 52:33Speaker 1: you know, whether or not a new coach or scheme
- 52:35Speaker 1: will get the proper value or see the proper value
- 52:39Speaker 1: in a player. And he gave the example of you know,
- 52:41Speaker 1: somebody new comes in and says, hey, for the money
- 52:43Speaker 1: you're paying player X, I don't know if I'll get
- 52:46Speaker 1: the use out of them, and then being specifically said, so,
- 52:49Speaker 1: those are some of the tough conversations you have to have.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Those are the hard conversations that we've started having and
- 52:55Speaker 1: that we will continue to have, essentially how players fit
- 52:59Speaker 1: and what their value. And he mentioned that in regards
- 53:01Speaker 1: to Jim Leonard, and I wonder who those conversations were about.
- 53:04Speaker 1: He referenced he made up an example of a player
- 53:07Speaker 1: making like ten million dollars, but I think it is
- 53:11Speaker 1: around one or more of the higher paid players on
- 53:14Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills defense, or maybe somebody who's a cut
- 53:18Speaker 1: candidate or is just making any amount of money that
- 53:19Speaker 1: they think they can do away with. But I thought
- 53:21Speaker 1: this was an interesting little nugget because him just kind
- 53:25Speaker 1: of giving a peek behind the curtain, whether purposefully or not,
- 53:28Speaker 1: of saying that, you know, Jim Leonard and the coaching stay.
- 53:31Speaker 1: You know, Jim Leonard coming in and whether it's Leonard
- 53:35Speaker 1: and Bean or Leonard Bean and Brady now the Brady's
- 53:39Speaker 1: head coach, you know, having those tough conversations of for
- 53:42Speaker 1: the money you're paying player X, I don't know if
- 53:45Speaker 1: I'll get the use out of him. So I wonder
- 53:46Speaker 1: who those players were that made that that was such
- 53:49Speaker 1: a very specific example of what like that was too
- 53:56Speaker 1: on the nose of an example to pull like it
- 53:58Speaker 1: wasn't something like he was thinking for a minute, hold
- 54:00Speaker 1: an example like that was already made example that he
- 54:03Speaker 1: had And then again him literally and explicitly saying, and
- 54:06Speaker 1: those are some of the tough conversations you have to have.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Those are the hard conversations that we've started having and
- 54:13Speaker 1: that we will continue to have end quote. So they
- 54:16Speaker 1: have had those conversations. So I think it's interesting. I
- 54:19Speaker 1: wonder who the players are that Jim Leonard has said
- 54:23Speaker 1: for the money you're playing this, for the money you're
- 54:26Speaker 1: paying this player. I don't know if I'll get the
- 54:28Speaker 1: use out of him to kind of justify that value.
- 54:32Speaker 1: And then you look at some of the higher paid
- 54:33Speaker 1: players on the Bills defense is it I'm looking at
- 54:37Speaker 1: the Bills the higher paid guys and is it okay?
- 54:39Speaker 1: Is it? Is it Greg Russou? Is it? You know?
- 54:44Speaker 1: Is it Taron Johnson? Is it Taylor Rapp? Although he's
- 54:48Speaker 1: not like extremely you know, highly paid, but yeah, is
- 54:50Speaker 1: it Taron Johnson? Is it? Terrell Bernard? Is it? And Oliver?
- 54:55Speaker 1: Is it? Greg Russou? Like you look at the guys
- 54:57Speaker 1: who make the most on that defense. I think that's
- 55:01Speaker 1: interesting because there's not Again, there's not a ton like
- 55:03Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think it's Christian Benford because
- 55:06Speaker 1: he's been a good player and his money is not
- 55:08Speaker 1: egregious at all. You know, he's got a cap hit
- 55:10Speaker 1: this year of seven point four million dollars. Like it's
- 55:12Speaker 1: it's not You're almost just kind of playing process of
- 55:14Speaker 1: elimination with the guys, Like there's nobody on the Bills
- 55:17Speaker 1: defense who makes an egregious amount of money or has
- 55:20Speaker 1: an egregious salary compared to their value. And then again,
- 55:23Speaker 1: if you're talking about value in higher base contracts, there's
- 55:27Speaker 1: only a few guys you can go to. So is
- 55:29Speaker 1: it roof so that he's talking about? Is it at Oliver? Maybe? Bernard? Maybe?
- 55:35Speaker 1: Terren Johnson thought that was interesting? I thought that was interesting.
- 55:39Speaker 1: And then as common here from Swig fifty saying what
- 55:41Speaker 1: happened to just get me good football players?
- 55:43Speaker 2: Uh?
- 55:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's funny. Now I do think there is And
- 55:47Speaker 1: again I'm gonna talk out of both sides of my mouth,
- 55:48Speaker 1: but there It goes both ways, right, Like you are
- 55:51Speaker 1: just gonna say, get me good football players. But and
- 55:53Speaker 1: being even said this what I'm about to say. He said,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I don't remember when today or where he was, but
- 55:58Speaker 1: he essentially said, you know you still want those ideal situations,
- 56:03Speaker 1: right like, oh, I'd love to get this guy or
- 56:07Speaker 1: that guy. Oh we can't get either of those guys
- 56:09Speaker 1: because we can't afford him. All right, cool, just get
- 56:11Speaker 1: me good football players, right. I think that's more of
- 56:13Speaker 1: the conversation. It's not like I don't care. I don't
- 56:16Speaker 1: have an archetype. It doesn't matter who you bring in.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Just get me good football players and I'll make anything.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Right again, you can't. Somebody can't make mashed potatoes if
- 56:25Speaker 1: you buy green beans, right, you can't get that. And
- 56:28Speaker 1: I know Jim Leonard's scheme is I've talked about it
- 56:31Speaker 1: a ton. I love him, I've studied him for years.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I know his scheme is all about flexibility and multiplicity
- 56:36Speaker 1: and hybridization in terms of his fronts and his players
- 56:39Speaker 1: and all of this stuff. That sounds great, right, But
- 56:43Speaker 1: you know he's still gonna want mashed potatoes. So that
- 56:46Speaker 1: means you need to get some good potatoes. And again,
- 56:48Speaker 1: he can't make mashed potatoes if you buy him green beans.
- 56:51Speaker 1: He can't make mashed potatoes if you get him carrots.
- 56:54Speaker 1: So he might just say, yeah, man, it's fine. I
- 56:57Speaker 1: can make a good dinner out of everything, out of anything.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Just buy what ingredients you want. You still got to
- 57:02Speaker 1: get the ingredients that are necessary for a good dinner
- 57:05Speaker 1: or for specific dishes. But yeah, Fair Tin, Yeah, but
- 57:10Speaker 1: I thought that was a again interesting nugget saying yeah,
- 57:14Speaker 1: for the money you're paying him, I don't know if
- 57:15Speaker 1: I'll get the use out of him. And those are
- 57:17Speaker 1: some of the tough conversations you have to have. Those
- 57:20Speaker 1: are the hard conversations that we've started having and that
- 57:23Speaker 1: we will continue to have. I think it's interesting. I
- 57:28Speaker 1: think it's interesting. I think again, because who who could
- 57:32Speaker 1: he be talking about? Yeah, even you know, Noah says
- 57:34Speaker 1: Rap is as good as Gone Fair. But Taylor Rap
- 57:38Speaker 1: has what a cap hit this year of three point
- 57:40Speaker 1: seven million dollars, And again that's not nothing. Right if
- 57:42Speaker 1: you could say four million bucks, especially with where the
- 57:44Speaker 1: bills are with the cap, that's a good chunk of change.
- 57:47Speaker 1: But that to me reads like it's more of a
- 57:51Speaker 1: higher paid guy. Somebody has more of a significant cap hit.
- 57:54Speaker 1: I don't think anybody's looking at Taylor Rap and thinking like, oh,
- 57:57Speaker 1: you've committed to him for what you're paying him. I
- 58:00Speaker 1: don't think I'll get the use out of him. I
- 58:01Speaker 1: think it's more of you know, if you're talking about
- 58:04Speaker 1: all for what you're paying him, that to me speaks
- 58:05Speaker 1: to somebody who has closer to a double digit cap hit,
- 58:08Speaker 1: if not higher. So it would be more of those
- 58:10Speaker 1: names I mentioned, which is interesting. Who could he be
- 58:13Speaker 1: talking about? And I think again, like that is something
- 58:16Speaker 1: that I'm not putting it out there because I'm too superstitious.
- 58:21Speaker 1: But if they were to trade Greg Russo or Ed
- 58:24Speaker 1: Oliver or Tarren Johnson or do something to again, cutting
- 58:28Speaker 1: is going to be tough because their capits and everything.
- 58:29Speaker 1: But if they were to make a roster move with
- 58:31Speaker 1: one of those guys, I would point back to that
- 58:34Speaker 1: quote and be like, so that's who they were talking about.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Like if they all of a sudden traded Greg Russoe
- 58:39Speaker 1: or at Oliver did something crazy right like that, I
- 58:42Speaker 1: would look back to that quote and be like, so,
- 58:44Speaker 1: Jim Leonard came in and said for what you're paying
- 58:47Speaker 1: at Oliver, I don't think I'm going to get the
- 58:50Speaker 1: use out of him. Great reference, Lou, great reference to
- 58:54Speaker 1: the office. Luckily, Lou says, Luckily, I'm just a little stitious.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Well done, not superstitious, just a little stitious. Yeah, if
- 58:59Speaker 1: they were to trade at Oliver all of a sudden,
- 59:01Speaker 1: I would look back to that quote and be like,
- 59:03Speaker 1: so Jim Leonard came in and said, Hey, for what
- 59:05Speaker 1: you're paying at Oliver, I don't think I'm gonna get
- 59:08Speaker 1: the use out of it. And so Bean was like, Okay,
- 59:10Speaker 1: so we can find a way to trade at Oliver.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Not saying that's the conversation that happened, but I think
- 59:15Speaker 1: they were talking about someone of significance again, because he
- 59:17Speaker 1: said that those are some of the top tough conversations
- 59:20Speaker 1: you have to have. Those are the hard conversations that
- 59:22Speaker 1: we've started having and we'll continue to have. So very
- 59:25Speaker 1: interesting Between that and then again being ended it or
- 59:29Speaker 1: talking on one Bill's Live kept talking about just finding
- 59:31Speaker 1: good football players separate of the scheme, recurring theme again
- 59:35Speaker 1: for Being and Brady throughout the pressers today. Just find
- 59:37Speaker 1: good players. And this is a quote from Being, just
- 59:40Speaker 1: find good players and then get them in the best
- 59:42Speaker 1: position for them to succeed themselves and help out our
- 59:44Speaker 1: football team. Just get good football players, Just get good
- 59:48Speaker 1: football players. Just get good football players. Sean McDermott's awful.
- 59:52Speaker 1: He didn't say that, but yeah, funny, funny, funny. Now
- 59:54Speaker 1: let's pivot. Let's get some takeaways from the Joe Brady
- 59:58Speaker 1: side of things. It opened up before, you know, speaking
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: before the generalized media. Uh. He talked about John Fox
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: as well. Again, just referenced the sixteen years of head
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: coaching experience and wanted he wanted This was a little interesting,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: He said, I wanted a guy who still wanted to
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: coach football. You know, somebody who's going to be sitting
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: in the defensive meetings, somebody who are someone I can
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: lean on when things kind of go, which I thought
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: was interesting, And I wonder, I wonder how much input
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: he'll have on the defense. If John Fox is sitting
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: in the meeting room and doesn't like something Jim Leonard's saying,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: is he going to Jim Leonard to kind of talk
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: to him about it, or is he gonna get out
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: of the meeting and report back to Joe Brady and
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: tell him he doesn't like what he's getting. That that
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: that dynamic, I don't think. I don't think the hiring
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: of John Fox is going to be something that causes
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: the dysfunction of the Bills. But I thought that was interesting.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: You know, again someone uh, you know that he can
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: lean on when things go and he's gonna be sitting
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: in the defensive meetings, and I was like, okay, again,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: something that could just be coach speak, but I thought
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: that was interesting to note that. And then he tied
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: that into Pete Carmichael. Tons of praise for Pete Carmichael,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: for Joe Brady, you know, as anticipated, but talking about
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: him was a guy he looked up to. And then
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: he said he knew if he ever got a head
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: coaching opportunity, Pete Carmichael is a guy he'd want on
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: his staff. And then he said Pete was his first
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: call in terms of new guys to bring in. So
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: I really think John Fox defensively is going to be
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: not to the severity of Pete Carmichael because Carmichael's the OC,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: but I think John Fox is going to be the
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: defensive version of Pete Carmichael. I think Brady is going
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: to look to Carmichael as kind of like a I
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: don't want to say mentor, but kind of like that
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: guiding hand a little bit, especially because and again this
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: ties into more muddiness in the theme of the Bills offseason,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: But you know, being and Pegoula talked about, you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Joe Brady is the CEO head coach, and that's part
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: of why they wanted to hire him, because he came
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: off great in that way and they wanted a CEO
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: head coach. But Brady's also going to be running the
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: offense and calling the offense. So it's hard. How are
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: you going to be the CEO head coach when you're
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: running an entire side of the ball. I think those
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: things contradict and don't coalesce into one. But you can
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: do that a little bit more if you've got somebody
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: on the offensive side of the ball that you completely
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: trust and can lean on in a bunch of ways.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: And I think that's Pete Carmichael for Joe Brady, especially
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: now too, because Brady is used to seeing the game
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: from up in the press box and that's how he
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: likes to call it. Now he's gonna be down on
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: the field because he has to be the head coach.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: So see having somebody up in the booth who has
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: eyes that he trusts, who will call out the right
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: things that Brady needs called out as he calls plays
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: and puts things together, let alone the game planning, the preparation,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: game day management stuff. But I think, yeah, Fox is
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: kind of going to be the defensive version of Pete Carmichael.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: And again, Carmichael is the OC to Brady like he
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: was the OC for Sean Payton, where it's kind of
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: more entitle and yes, you have roles and responsibilities. But
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: when Sean Payton was the head coach in New Orleans,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Sean Payton was the play caller and running the offense.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Joe Brady is running the offense and calling the offense
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: here in Buffalo. Carmichael is the offensive coordinator. But tons
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: of praise for Carmichael from Brady and a guy again
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: who he looks up to, was the first call that
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: he made, somebody who he really wanted here. Also tying
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: into that, he mentioned Ronald Curry, former quarterbacks coach, leaving
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: and going to Denver. Brady referred to Ronald Curry as
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: his right hand man when he was here and then
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: said he was sad to see him go to Denver.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I just thought that was interesting. I personally didn't know
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: they had that dynamic. And I also think it's interesting
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: that if Curry was Brady's right hand, why didn't they
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: maybe do more to keep him, or did they do
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: more to keep him and Ronald Curry still wanted out.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I could have that timeline wrong. Maybe Curry left before
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Brady was hired, but I don't think that's the case.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: I think that's interesting. I didn't know. And again, just
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: from the basis of like, I didn't know they had
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: that dynamic. I didn't know that Curry was Brady's right hand. Again,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: it makes sense quarterbacks coach, and Brady is big into
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: talking to the quarterbacks coaches. He talked about that with
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: their new wide receivers coach Drew Cherrell, who's coming over
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: from Arizona. He talked about how his experience as a
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: passing game coordinator and he coached the wide receivers. But
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: in talking about the wide receivers, he sees the game
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: through like the eyes and the lens of a quarterback,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: and how much Brady loved that. So I just think
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: he gravitates towards that type of coach or the guy
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: who sees the game from a quarterbacks perspective. So maybe
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: that's really why he got along with Ronald Curry, but
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I didn't know that they had that type of relationship.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: But he literally called him. He said he was like
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: his right man, right man, his right hand man here,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: which I thought was interesting. A lot of coaches speak
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: from Brady aside from that, you know, looking for people
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: who aren't exactly like him. He wants a different persons
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: and different thought processes in the building and in his
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: coaching staff. He also knows the personalities on the team
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: and how to build a staff around those personalities. In
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: the room, someone asked him, I wanted more detail in
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: this answer. I thought this was a good question. Somebody
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: asked him what he's going to look for in wide
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: receivers at the combine, and I was like, ooh, that's
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: a good question. What do you got for that? Any
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: coach speaked it in the answer, which was really disappointing.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: He said, just understanding what specific skill sets look like
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: on each drill. But he did give you more insight
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: and being also said something similar in what I'm about
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: to say, and I thought this was insightful because I
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: mentioned not insightful, but just kind of reiterating something I've
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: said for years. Being and Joe Brady both talked about
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: liking the NFL Combine because it's an opportunity to understand
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the personalities of the players and be able to connect
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: the players. Joe Brady also said, you know, you are
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: what you put on tape, so he's going to take
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: that way more into consideration than anything that happens during
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: combine drills, which makes sense the tape tape never lies
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: tape over the combine all day. But he and Being
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: both reiterated, you know, using the combine to understand players,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: to connect with players. Being talked about it and multiple
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: times on attending the combine, you know, wanting every opportunity
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: to be in front of as many prospects as possible.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: You may feel differently about a player with your first interaction,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: then you do you secon your second. You want to
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: get as many exposure opportunities as possible you can pick
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: up more things. Being also had an interesting quote about
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: the combine too, saying that they had a good portion
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: of their staff there for the most part, and being
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: at the combine is an opportunity for people to advance
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: their career and network. But also with this new front
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: office and coaching staff, they're still trying to bond and
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: build trust as a group. So having the majority of
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: the staff there gives them an opportunity to continue to
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: learn about each other as people, as football minds. All
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: that stuff, which I thought was pretty interesting, But yeah,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: more references from Bean and Brady about you know, the
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: personality aspect, the people aspect of players. I've said this
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: for years, like I wish how there's like all twenty
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: two for college football tape. I wish there was like
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: all twenty two for the NFL combine interviews. You know,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: some of my favorite content in the offseason is when
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: teams draft a player and they release the video footage of,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: you know, what their meetings look like. And granted, they're
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: only gonna show the positives, right, and those aren't the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: best ways to judge players. Because everybody saw the keyon
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Coleman stuff and thought he was darling and charismatic and
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: everything was great, and now people want him jetisoned into
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: the sun. Are kind of looking back on that footage
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: with different color lenses now, But I think so much
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: of the evaluation process that's so important is a player's
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: makeup and who they are and what they are as
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: a person, as a player, work ethic, understanding the game football, IQ,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: how they approach it, why they approach it, all of
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: it that matters so much. What I'm about to say,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I've said on the show a bunch like, once you
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: get to the NFL, there are different ranges, right Like,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: some guys are bigger, some guys are stronger, some guys
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: are faster, some are more technically gifted, some see the
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: game and understand the game better. But pretty much everybody's
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: good at football. Once you get to the NFL. Pretty
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: much everyone is big and strong and fast and athletic
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: and understands the game right. And again you have different levels,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: different sliders and dials for each player with all those,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: But what separates the bad from the average, and the
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: average from the good, and the good from the great
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: and the great from the Hall of fame is who
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: they are as players and who they are as people.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: How hard do they work, how dedicated are they, How
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: disciplined are they? How well do they see the game?
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: How smart are they? How good is their memory? Their play,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: recall their play diagnosis they're processing. You can be the
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: fastest dude in the world. You could run a four
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: to two forty, but if you can't see the game
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: at four to two forty speed, you ain't run into
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: four to two. In order to play fast physically, you
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: have to play fast mentally. You need to be able
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: to process right angles, leverage, understanding of space, understanding of concepts.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: You know, if you're a defensive back, you know, being
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: able to process route distributions and concepts. If you are
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: an offensive player, if you're a wide receiver, being able
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: to process a coverage on the fly as you're running
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: a route, feel that coverage, feel that space, understand leverage
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: of the dB if you're the quarterback speaks for itself.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Being able to analyze the front's coverage structures everything offensive line,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: being able to see where the pressure is coming from,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: diagnose what the call is. The mental aspect of football
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: is so important. It is a very physically demanding sport.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: It is a violent sport. It is a collision sport.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Even though a lot of the rules have tried to
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: make it not be that way. The physical element will
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: never not be important, but the mental side of it
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: is what separates the tiers of players more often than not.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: And the interview process the thirty you know, know, the
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: top thirty, visits the Senior Bowl, the combine everything anything
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: you can do to understand who and what a player is.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: I think it's so important. It's something I wish we
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: got more access to, as you know, people who aren't
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: in the buildings, Like for me, that that would go
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: so so far for me with an evaluation process, like
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: looking at a guy but then knowing like how they
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: see the game, how they approach the game, how they prepare,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: how they study, or how they don't would significantly affect
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: like my rankings or my evaluation for someone. Right, if
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I've got five guys and I'm thinking of going one
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: through five, but I know the guy who I had
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: is two is a huge jerk or like doesn't study
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: or doesn't prep and just gets by on the physical gifts,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: I'm probably gonna knock him down a bunch. I'm like,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: that ain't gonna work in the NFL unless you're God gifted, right,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: you know, unless you're Booby Miles and you feel like
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: you don't have to work out because what you got
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: is god give it. Granted, maybe that's not the best
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: example because he blew his knee out, but yeah, I
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: think again, just those nuggets from Bean and Brady today, reiterating,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: reiterating that part of how important the player getting to
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: know the player matters for who teams draft, and that's
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: not just unique to the Bills, that not unique to
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: my thought process. That's what matters so much about the combine.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: And Yeah, obviously you get guys in there and you're
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: testing their recall. You want to see him draw up
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: certain plays or get him to break down stuff or
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: diagnose it, but it's really just getting in front of players.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Joe Brady even talked about like watching guys and seeing
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: what they're doing, and I think Being said something similar
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: to like kind of watching guys in between drills, like
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: are they sitting there on their phone, are they hyping
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: up you know, their boys in the drill or congratulating
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: guys or hyping up their position group, Like what are
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: they doing in between the like these scouting, these front offices, scouts, GMS, coaches,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: They're watching everything a player does to try and decipher
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: everything about them. So it's not just in them where
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: you're asking a guy like, oh, you know, tell me
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: about this, or tell me about that, or you know,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: what are the challenges in your life? Or hey, break
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: down this play, break down this concept. Whatever the hell,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: it's not just that, Like they have eyes on them
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: in between everything, like what are you doing when the
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: cameras aren't on you? What are you doing when you
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: think no one's watching? And that stuff matters a ton
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: in football all the time. But another reiteration of why
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: the combine matters so much, because yes, you want to
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: see these guys compete in drills, right, you want to
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: see all these guys move in person. You want to
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: see their size and frame and the athleticism, and you know, hey,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: this dude looks fast on tape. Let's see if he
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: times fast. Let's see if he plays fast. Let's see
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: if he really is that fluid. You know, what's the
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: change of direction, what's the hip fluid of you? All
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: that kind of stuff, right, Like that stuff does matter,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: But the combine is a lot of let's kind of
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: get people in the room and evaluate him and see
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: where it goes from there. Claude says, what do you
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: think about the fact that Jacksonville and the Rams two
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: of the best drafting teams don't send people to the combine.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: I think there's outliers to everything. And also the combine
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: isn't the only opportunity to get to know guys. Again,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: you have the Senior you have the All Star Circuit,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: the Senior Bowl, the Shrine Bowl or the Shrine Game.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: You've got Top thirty visits. You've got opportunities to get
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: to know guys. Right. Plus your your your scouting department
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: is putting their report together while also gathering information about
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: those guys. Right They're talking to the trainers, their teammates,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: their coaches, the I don't know, the guy who fixes
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the soda machine, in in the in the in the
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: in the breakroom or whatever the hell. They're gathering and
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: doing as much detective work as possible to put their
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: reports together. So it's not like them not going to
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: the combine means they have no idea on the personalities
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: of the player. They're still able to formulate it from
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: other ways. But I would do I would say again, yeah,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: there's exceptions to every rule, and you know when you
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: have a when Also, I think when you have a
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: track record in place of kind of what works for
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: you you can kind of sit on it a little
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: bit and not have to worry as much. I also
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: do think with the Jacksonville and the Rams, though, like
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: they've had a good chunk of misses, So I don't
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: think their process or their philosophy is flawless, just like
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I don't think the Bills process of philosophy is fat
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: is flawless. If it was an exact science for everyone,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: they'd be great. I don't know if I would call
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: the Rams and Jags two of the best drafting teams,
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: especially from a JAG's perspective. Yeah, Like I like even
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: just going for the Rams, like Terence Ferguson was a
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: nice pick, just just side Stewart did some things, but
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: they're Twenty twenty five was kind of met. Twenty twenty
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: four was good, obviously adverse Fisk, Cam Kitchens, Tyler Davis
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: in the sixth round, which is nice for them. Jordan
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Winnington's giving him some some some snaps there. Then twenty
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: twenty three Steve Bobby la Byron On, Kobe turner Man
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: good work through from there, Pokinakua in the fifth. But
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: they you know, they've had some I think they've had
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: some hits I think they've had a fair shot of
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: misses as well, so I think they kind of fall
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: into the line with like a lot of other teams.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: But then again, to your point, you could also kind
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: of play Devil's Advocate Davil's advocate and be like, well,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: if they fall in line with a lot of other
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: guys and a lot of other teams, then you know,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: maybe they're still doing something right because they're not getting
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: those as much in person aspects. And then the Jags, Yeah,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: I wouldn't call the Jags picks, you know, I think
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: they're twenty twenty four draft. I mean their best pick
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: right now out of it is Brian Thomas, and I
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: think that's still very much a question mark, like he's
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: a trade candidate. Twenty twenty three wasn't bad. Anton Harrison's
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: been a fine player at right tackle. Brenton Strange turned
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: into a nice tight end tank Bigsby is no longer
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: on the team. Devin Lloyd worked out in twenty twenty two.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Trayvon Walker has been ascending but still kind of man.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: They took Chad Muma in the third round. He's kind
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: of been whatever. Yeah, I think, I mean, they took
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Tyson Campbell in the second round in twenty two to one,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: traded him. They have Walker Little. He's been all right,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Andre Cisco, he's been all right. Yeah. I don't know
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: if I call either of those teams to the best
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: drafting teams, but they have had their fair share hits
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: and fair share missus Oh Charles says combine mostly is
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: medical checks and eliminating players off the board. Teams have
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: years of tape in scotting reports on players. Yeah, and
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: to Brady's point, he's going to trust the tape over everything.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I think most teams are doing that over everything. That's
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: fair point, Claude, That's a fair point. And I wonder too,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: you know, you kind of to Claude's point, you do
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: get teams who like have sent less and less staff
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: to the Senior Bowl over the years, some teams have
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: sent less and less staff to the Combine. So everybody
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: operates a little differently. But I think that's a fair point,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: fair question. What else from Oh? And then Khalis Shakir,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Joe Brady spoke on him today, which I thought was interesting. Khalishakir,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: when Joe where he was asked about him, he said,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: you know, we talked about finding different ways to use
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: guys and that he thinks Kali Secure can play inside
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: and outside, uh, and that he's not. There's not really
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: a lot of things that Khalil can't do. We have
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: to continue to grow his game because he's such a
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: huge component to our offense. And then he said, quote
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: and it doesn't always have to be in a short range,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And he kind of like
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: smirked a little bit, which I didn't get that comment,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: because if it doesn't always have to be in the
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: short range, then why did you essentially always use him
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: like that? Or was there another reason why his average
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: depth of target was like negative fifty and he was
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: only throwing the ball at her behind the line of
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: scrimmage all the time. Again, I think that speaks to
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: maybe him knowing the temperature of the room or the
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: fan base and seeing a lot of the you know,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: vitriol that was coming like how do they how come
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: they only use Coalise Secure like this, blah blah blah.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: But I thought that was interesting, you know, again, him,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: I think some of this coach speak right, like find
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: different to use guys. There's not a lot of things
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: he can't do once he gets the but he gets
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: the ball in his hands, good things happened, General Kochby,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: but then him saying he thinks he could play inside
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: and outside. Okay, so a you're gonna use him outside
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: a little bit more, and then saying and it doesn't
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: always have to be in a short range. You know
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: what I mean? Okay, if it doesn't always have to
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: be in a short range, then why why is that
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: how you used him? You know? Or what's the I
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: wish the follow up was like, oh, okay, and if
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be in that short range, can
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: you explain why he was essentially only used in that
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: short range this past season? I thought that would have
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: been a nice follow up if there was an opportunity there.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: But that was that piece from being or from Brady.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Another couple of pieces Brady also mentioned. You talked about
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Jim Leonard again being extremely bright, studies a lot of football,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: and then again tying into the versatility, right, how Jim
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Leonard understands there's you know, there's not just one way
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: to do things. Talked about flexibility and just getting good
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: football players in and again understanding that there's not only
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: one way to do it. I connect that back to
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: the the on a good point from Claude say, yes,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Colluseecar did play some outside in Boise State. I doubt
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: he could win there consistently, though, Yeah, he did play
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: out some outside at Boise State. I think he can.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: To your point, I think he can work outside more
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: than he has. I just don't know how much. Like
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: I don't think you're lining up Khalilshekiir thirty percent of
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: the time out wide, right, I don't think that's the case.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I think he's a predominant slot. And again I think
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: that makes sense. Like I want to get the ball
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: on colil Secure's hands as quick as quickly as possible
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: and in as much space as possible. He's like a
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: running back once he gets the ball in his hands. Like, so,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: I get that, right, I get the the runs of
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: the pass tags, the past, the package plays, the RPOs
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: that that manifesto screens, the RPO bubbles and all that.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: I get it. But I do think he can do more.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: I think he is a good route runner. I'd like
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: to see him get some work in the intermediate. I'd
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: like to see him get the ball on some option
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: routes or push down field a little bit more. But yeah,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: to your point, I do agree. You know, I don't
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: think he could win consistently outside, but I do think
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: he can do more. Yeah, and as already says, that
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: makes zero sense, is that's only how they use shakure?
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: And then Charles says, Brady called the place for shakure
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: last season. Yeah, I agree, Like that's what And the
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: way he said it like he said it and almost
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: kind of like with a smirk, And I would be like,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: why is that a smirk? Like are you making fun
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: of yourself? Like I just didn't get that, Like why
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: make that comment literally the quote? And it doesn't always
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: have to be in a short range, you know what
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I mean. Yeah, My immediate follow would have been like,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: well then why was it only in a short range
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: for you with him last year? But yeah, fair and again, yeah,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Brady talking about Leonard referencing again understanding that there's not
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: only one way to do it. That's another one. I
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: meant to mention that earlier in the lead in that
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: was another line in a question that or answer I
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: should say that I thought again was interesting, Like it
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: could just be coach speak, it could just be Yeah,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: variability and multiplicity and all this stuff. But I think
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: that and with what Bean said about the tears and
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: being forced into players and having to pass on certain guys,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: I just wonder how much restriction there was in terms
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: of a one way of thinking, this is the way
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: we're gonna do it. We're not deviating from the plan,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: we're not deviating off course. This is the way, this
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: is what we do. I wonder how much of that
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: was was felt across the entire team, and how much
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: of it was due to Sean McDermott or if this
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: is just smoke or again trying to put stuff onto
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: a guy who got fired and it's easy to kind
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: of do that. Oh yeah. And then this is also
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: another quote from Joe Brady that I wanted to bring up.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: When asked when talking about the Bills defensive roster with
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Jim Leonard, Joe Brady said, quote, we have a lot
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: of guys on our defense that fits the vision that
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: we ultimately want to be already, so it's not a hey,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: we have to scrap everything and start over, even with
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: our personnel. We have a lot of guys already on
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: this roster that can do a lot of things. We're
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: gonna ask people to do. I think some of that
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: is true. Again, I don't think the the switch from
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: mcdermot's defense to Leonard's defense, while it is significant, I
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: don't think it's as you know, square peg, round hole
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: as it may be made out to be. You know,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: there you are going to see more odd fronts. You
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: are going to see some three down stuff, some five
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: down stuff. You are going to see hybrid fronts. But
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: you're still going to see a nickel defense. You're still
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: going to see four down. You're still going to see
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: like Sean McDermott esque elements within Jim Leonard's defense. And
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: even if you're not, again, they do have some guys
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: currently on the roster who can work in more of
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: an odd front, who can work in Jim Leonards hybridized defense.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: But you know, like we talked about last week's episode,
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: you need the right players, the right body types, the
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: right skill sets, the right play styles, the right traits
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: to maximize Jim Leonard's defense. But again, really kind of
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: continuing to drill home that theme and bang that drum
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: of hey, we have a lot of guys already in
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: house that you know, fit the vision that we want
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: a little bit of you know, hey, we already we
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: already have a three four defense at home type of deal,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: and I think I think some of that is true,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: and I also think some of that as coach speak
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: to kind of temporary expectations. I do think again, with
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: the multiplicity of Leonard and him knowing how to lean
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: into the strengths of his players to get the most
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: out of them, he's not going to take a this
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: is gonna be a Rex Ryan cold Front situation where
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: he took Jim Schwartz's defense and tried to make everybody
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: fit into his defense and screwed everything up. We're not
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: going to see that with Jim Leonard and this Bill's defense.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: But I I also think that again, to maximize Leonard's defense,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: you need the right players or the right skill sets,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: body types, archetypes, traits, play styles. It's gonna be tough
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: to get that in one offseason. So I think they
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: can stem the tide a little bit this year with
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: some of what they already have combined with Leonard. But
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: I do think, similar to kind of Mike McDonald and Seattle,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: I think it's gonna take a couple off seasons to
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: really get what you want from Jim Leonard's defense. I
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: don't think they're gonna be able to get the right
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: defensive ends, the right edges, the right linebackers, the right
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: safety have everything be ideal for the churn that they
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: need in one offseason. With the draft capital they have
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: and the financial constraints that they have, it's not gonna
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: happen in one offseason. So I think some of this
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: coach speak or some of this you know from Brady
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: is true. Again, I do think they have some answers
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: already in house, but I think it's also to kind
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: of temper, you know, the expectations that it's going to
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: be a complete overhaul, or it's gonna be a complete upheaval,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: or it's gonna be a complete transformation, just because that's
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: not realistic. Right, even if that was one hundred percent true,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: which it's not, it's not a complete overhaul. It's gonna
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: be hard to do that just because of where they
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: are as a team monetarily in from a draft capital standpoint.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: That being said, even if Sean McDermott's defense stayed the same, right,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: if McDermott stay Babbage stayed the whole crew, they already
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: the needed dad bodies. As we said on the show,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: they already needed several upgrades at several spots on the defense.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: So they still need those upgrades now, they just need
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: those and or with some different body types, archetype skills
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: that's placed outse traits, all that kind of stuff. And
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Charles says, Bills have the fewest returning snaps on defense
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: under contract of any team in the league. It's definitely
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: gonna be significant change. Fair, But again, they were gonna
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: have the fewest returning snaps on defense even if McDermott stayed.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: Like either way, they were losing a ton of dudes,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: like whether it was Leonard or whether it was McDermott
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: at Panessa was gone, Ogan Joby was gone, Boso was gone,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Milano was gone, the multitude of other guys like I
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: could we could literally run through the whole gamut like
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: they were already gonna see Shack Thompson was gone, Trey
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: White gone, you were at cam lewis gone. I'm just
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: ran on these off my head like you mar Hamlin gone.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: You were already gonna see the fewest returning amount of
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: snaps even if mcderm its defense state right, even if
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: that and to the point and yeah, then to your
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: next comment here Charles saying not in one year, but
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: they picked a good time to pivot and reload. Exactly.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: They already had to add bodies. Now just add some
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: different bodies, right, instead of bringing guy, instead of signing
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: guys to fit mcdermot's defense, now you signed guys to
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: fit more of leonards defense. So they already had to
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: add bodies. I think what makes it tougher with Leonard
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: is if mcdermot's defense was staying the same, you kind
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: of knew where the chess pieces fit. Again, you still
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: needed upgrade, right, You still needed a true edge one.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: You were going to need a starting if mcdermot's defense
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: stayed the same, Right, you need a true edge one
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: as a pass rusher to pair with group. You need
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: a starting linebacker opposite of Terrel Bernard. Whether you like
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: Bernard or don't, his contract means he's staying. So you
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: needed a starting linebacker outside of Terrel Bernard. You needed
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: a better starting safety outside of Cole Bishop. Like that's
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: just that you already needed three significant starters, one of
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: them being a very premium position at edge. And then
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: you needed someior depth as well, and some edge depth
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: as well, because not only do you have to replace Bosa,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: you also have to replace Apanessa, But now pivoting to
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Leonard's defense, you still need to upgrade those spots, and
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: you also have to add some different body types. So
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: it's like it's now you have to add some new
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: starters along with adding better starters, and some new depth
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: along with regular depth. But to your point, yeah, that's
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: that's kind of why I didn't think it was too crazy.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: It's not like, well, they're locked in defensively, what are
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: they going to do now you have a ton of
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: square pegs for a round hole. They don't because they
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: don't have a lot of cats under contract, because a
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: bunch of guys are out the door. Which, again, good
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: year to pivot, good year to reload. You got empty
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: roster spaces, fill them with the new body types, archetypes,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: play styles and skill sets that you need. I had
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: wanted to get into I'm gonna change the banner one
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: more time, just to make sure I'm accurate. No takeaways
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: from Brandon ban speaking with the media. This is something
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: I missed earlier. I skipped over to talk about Kinkaid
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: Bean was asked about this draft being deep at edge
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: wide receiver, linebacker in corner, and then he was asked
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: if that's accurate, Being said, why did this disappear? It's
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: gonna make me look like a fool. Bean did not
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: say that. I was talking. If you're watching audio, my
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: banner at the bottom dropped away. Didn't want you think so,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Being said, Bean said that he's still digging into this
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: scrap draft class. What is going on? Why does the
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: banner keep disappearing. I'm losing it. I don't understand what's happening.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on, hold on, everybody bear with me.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: All right. I figured it out. There was some reason
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: a timer was on it. Everybody, Thank you for bearing
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: with me. I appreciate you, so, Being said, quote essentially quote,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: I'm paraphrasing, not quote. He's still digging into this draft class.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: They got through their two weeks two week run of
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: meetings before the combine, and he definitely thinks there's depth
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: that some of those areas coach speak. But then he said,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: it's not a top heavy class this year, which we
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: knew twenty twenty seven will be much more top heavy,
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: which we also knew. Still some good depth pieces and
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: plenty of opportunities coach speak. They started interviews last night
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Monday night, meeting with some of the defensive players. They
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: have a whole slate of interview scheduled again tonight. And
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: he does think there's good value late on Day two
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: and on early Day three in this draft class. Then
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: he also kind of made of a joke of like, oh,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: and of course we're going to hit on our first
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: round pick too. I think again he knows the temperature
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: of the room with the fan base that he's not
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: hitting enough on first round picks, which I think is funny.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: So yeah, that's the part from best part from being
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: that I wanted to get to. Yeah, no, I can
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: take the banner off. But overall, I think there's some
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: interesting nuggets here for the Buffalo Bills, for Bean and Brady.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I think they continue to lay a lot of the
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: faults at the feet of Sean McDermott. Time will tell
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: if at or just how right or wrong that is,
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: if it is right or wrong. And again we got
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: some insights into kind of some of the coaching hires,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: some of the exits, some of the thought process, and
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: again with what I think is really interesting too, with
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: all the groundwork that they're laying. I'm very interested to
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: see the moves that they make offensively and defensively. Right, Like,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: I feel like they're almost telegraphing everything to the point
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: that you're going to see different types of wide receivers,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: You're going to see different types of defenders. But it
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: would just be so unfortunately fitting and or painfully ironic
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: if they just continue to bring in the same type
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: of players that they had before. I don't think that's
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: what they're going to do. But they really are setting
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: this offseason up, like, hey, you know, wink, wig, nudge, nudge.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: Everything that was a problem before with the roster, with
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: our draft picks, with our free agents, it was because
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: of Sean, Like it was Sean's fault. Now everything is refreshing.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: It's a great new perspective, Like you're not forced into anything.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: You don't have to pass on guys, you don't have
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: to make this pick at the bottom tier when you
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: really wanted someone who's a tier above. Like they really
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: are painting this as hey, like we feel great. Everything
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: is refreshing and new and good vibes and all that
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: kind of stuff, which again can make for a really
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: spectacular upward trajectory or a very spectacular fall, because they
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: really are. And this isn't even just mine. I think
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: if you kind of look at things from an outside
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: national perspective, you are kind of getting that same type
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: of vibe and type of feel where the Bills organization
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: is laying the fault and blame for their previous shortcomings
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: at the feet of Sean McDermott, which again could be right,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: it could be wrong, but you're kind of backing yourself
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: into a corner a little bit. If you're Brandon Bean
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: and you're Joe Brady, you know you're giving some coach
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: speak and saying some of the right things, but implicitly
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: and explicitly continuing to kind of pile it on to
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: Sean and make it seem like it's Shawn. So then
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: it's like, okay, Well, if Shawn's out the door, then
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: it's all on. Then you guys should be great, right.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: If this other guy was the big was the big problem,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: now he's gone, you guys should be good, right. So,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: on the one hand, it buys you some time. On
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: the other hand, you kind of reput your soul a
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: little bit, and the chickens come home to roost one
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: way or the other, and yeah, it's gonna be Obviously
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: it's MUSTYTV because we like the bills, but I think
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: even nationally it's kind of kind of be musty TV.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: You have a brand new stadium, you've got a new
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: head coach, you've got a new defensive coordinator. You're gonna
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: have some new scheme and structure. You have, you know,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: changes internally, you've got changes in the media and just
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: kind of moving things in house. And I think nationally
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: the bills are kind of being laughed at a little
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: bit with what with how the pressors have gone down
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: and firing Sean McDermott and promoting Bean and promoting Brady.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: I think there is a vibe outside of Buffalo of
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: and even in Buffalo think as well of you know,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: there's so many things that have gone wrong, but it's
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: all this one guy's fault that doesn't make sense. And
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: so I think Being and Brady are a bit under
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: the microscope nationally, and I think even within the fan base.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: Two when man, you imagine in the new stadium that
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: a lot of people think is too expensive, and the
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: seats cost a bunch and the PSLs and all that.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: You imagine if like I don't know, they start out
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: like one in five, or the offense is really bad. Yeah,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: imagine if like imagine if the only the worst scenario
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: is the Leonard comes in and the defense is worse,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: which I don't think is going to happen, or the
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: offense takes a step back and is worse, and then
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: it's like, oh man, so why did we keep Brady?
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: What's going on? A lot of stories, a lot of storylines,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: a lot of narratives, a lot of fun things good
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: but also scary and bad. We'll see what happens is
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: we go forward here this offseason. You know what is
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: always good, and you know it is not scary in
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: any way, shape or form. One Pi Pizza the best
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: pizza in Buffalo, New York. If you have not gotten
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: yourself one Pi Pizza, you were doing yourself a disservice.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I do not say they are the best pizza in
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: Buffalo because they sponsor the show. They sponsor the show
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: because I think they are the best pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: New York. Sweet sauce pie cup and chart pepperoni, a
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: phenomenal homemade blue cheese. They do a breakfast pizza. They
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: do a whole bunch of specialty pizzas. They even make
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: good salads. They have a catering division called Elevated Catering
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: a Buffalo. If you're doing any kind of event, especially
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: you know as springtime rolling around and then summer down
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: the road, graduation parties, birthdays, get togethers. If you're doing
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: something for the draft, if you're doing something for hopefully
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: the NHL playoffs, for the Sabers or nhlayoffs in general,
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: if you're doing something for March Madness, if you're doing
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: something for Champions League, anything and everything, get Elevated Catering
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: a Buffalo to do your stuff for you, and you
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: can get some of their awesome like mac and cheeses

- 1:34:58Speaker 1: non pizza meals, but you can also get the pizza
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: stuff on top of it, which makes it even better.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: So get yourself some one pie pizza, do your taste,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: bud some good, do your stomach some good, and do
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: some good for the community and the city at large.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: I always mention it that they're good people making good food,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: and I always say they're goo people because of Bald.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: They initiatives and the drives that they do with the
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: city in Buffalo, and I mentioned every time partnering with Roswell,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: the SPCA, the Alzheimer's Foundation, Toys for Tots, They're very big.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: I'm giving back and being generous to the city and
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: to the community at large again here in Buffalo and
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: Western New York. So I think they're awesome for that.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: So do the city some good. Do your taste, Bud
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: some good. Get yourself some one pie pizzah. Yeah, I forgot.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: RJ keeps plugging this. RJ sent me a picture of
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: two weekends ago the pizza that he got. He got
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: a pepperoni hot honey rakatta pizza that he added sausage to. Yeah,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: it was like hot honey drizzle and ricatta on it.
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: It looked amazing. I'm not that creative. I just get
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: straight up cheese and pepperoni pie. I get some blue cheese,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: or I get the cover one goat, which is awesome.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: I don't do a lot of crazy stuff, and not
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: even that that's crazy. But yeah, Argie sent this picture
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: and it was absolutely phenomenal. So get yourself some one
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: by pize. I'm gonna throwup the bannessa's tootles folks and
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: start to grab some comments from the chat. Charles says,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: Brady has a clean slate with me as head coach,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: being better hit on this draft class, he's got more
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: pressure to deliver. I do think there was some pressure
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: on Brandon Bean just because he's left over from the
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: old regem Brady Brady, I think is an interesting one
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: for me. Yeah, I do think he has kind of
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: a fresh slate ast head coach, but he's still running
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: the offense, so like he has like kind of a
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: half slate, but not really for me, Like I'm holding
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: him accountable for the offense. Like if the offense still
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: sputters in the same way that it did last year,
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: or they don't address the receiver position in the way
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: they needed to like last year, I'm gonna hold Brady
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: accountable to that. But yeah, he is, he is in
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: a different role, So I do think there is something
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: I don't think so for me, he doesn't have a
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: complete clean slate. I understand your thought here, Charles, though,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: and I think it's fair for me he doesn't have
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: a complete clean slate. I would say it's almost like
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: a fifty percent clean slate because again he's in a
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: new role, but he's also running the offense like he
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: did previously. So if the team does well, I think
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: overall you need to give him some credit for how
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: he's running the team or the you know what direction
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: he's taking the team in. But then you also have
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: to because you have to judge him as a head
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: coach and as an offensive coordinator, which is tough, which
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: is why for me, again he has a clean slate,
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: but also not really but I think that's fair. R
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: J says, I really think this offense is taking a
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: big step back this year. Yeah, I I think I'm
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: gonna be diving into that next week on a potential
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: regression for the offense or what regression may look like
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: or how likely or possible it is. I am trying
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: to get a very specific guest on the show to
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: have that conversation. What's gonna be tough is you know,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: we've got next week and then the week after that
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: is like the start of free agency. So if I
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: can't do who the episode, that regression potential aggression episode
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: next week, I would probably have to wait until the
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: seventeenth to do it. Maybe, But yeah, I have an
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: episode theme in mind. I just want to have it
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: with a very specific quality person and I have to
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: make sure our schedule is aligned to be able to
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: make that happen. But that will be an episode theme
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: on this show in terms of will the offense take
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: a step back? How? Why should we worry? Should we not?
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: That type of deal? Sweet fifty says, worst case scenario,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: Sean mcjournal was the only person stopping Joe Brady from
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: calling a wider screen every play. That's funny, Okay. Morrey says,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: there will be the offensive regression episode, but then the
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: Bills will make a splash offensive move during that episode. There, Yeah,
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: I will do that episode and started at nine and
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: at like nine oh seven or nine oh eighth, the
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: Bills will trade for Justin Jefferson, which would be awesome.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Not putting it into I'm not gonna say what I'm
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: gonna say about about what I was about to say,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: but yeah, if if you are a regular watcher of
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: this show, you kind of know things that have happened
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: during the week of free Agency when I've done this show,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: So we'll keep that in mind. But yeah, that would happen.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: But yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking, and then
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: going forward here on the show for this offseason, obviously
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: we're gonna be doing, you know, some free agency evaluations,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: some draft prospect evaluations, but I'm gonna be doing a
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: lot of like larger, big, contextual things like we do
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: here on the show, Like a couple seasons ago, when
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: I did that whole series on condensed formations and what
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: was happening with the NFL league wide meta and how
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: the Bills were going to move in that direction and
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: why and then they ended up doing that. I'm gonna
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: be doing that offensively, defensively, just more league wide stuff
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: that ties into who the Bills are, what the Bills
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: are once we start to see this roster sign kind
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: of take shape a little bit and put some things together.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: So I'm excited for the things to come. And yeah,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: I'm trying to put this again. I think there is
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: a good chance we see some kind of regression, even
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: just from the fact that because the Bill's offense statistically
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: was good last year. But I think it's not even
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: in a super negative way. I think it is realistic
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: to expect some kind of regression for the Bills offense
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: this year. But I do want to talk about what
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: that would look like, what kind of regression, what it
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: would mean, and kind of how and why it could
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: come about. But again, yeah, I have a very specific
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: guest in mind. I just need to make sure our
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: schedules aligned to be able to have that conversation. Again,
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: I could have it on my own, but there's a
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: person who I really want to have it with, and
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: I think it would be a good conversation. So again, we'll
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: kind of see, kind of see what kind of see.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: Ralph says Brady got fired in Carolina for not running
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: the ball en off for rules liking. Will Cook want
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: out after a year of Brady having the game control
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: in his hands? Maybe? But I don't know. Maybe does
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: Joe Brady and Pete Carmichael lean into more of the
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: Sean Payton Saints offense? And I don't know. Is James
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Cook getting mad catches Kamara did and Peerterre Thomas did
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: and mark Ingram did. He might not. You know, maybe
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: Cook isn't getting you know, twenty carries a game, but
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: maybe he's getting thirteen carries and eight catches. Maybe he
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: gets used more like the Backs did in Carolina. In Carolina,
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: in New Orleans. Either way, I think the offense has
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: to funnel through him to a decent degree. Right in
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: an ideal world, right now you're looking at Alan Kincaid
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: and Cook, that's what the offense needs the funnel through
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: and then Shakir and then you kind of build it
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: out from there. Right now, again, they need some other pieces,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: but Cook should be a focal point regardless. But I
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: think that's a fair question. I understand where you're head
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: is at. Claude says any Josh Allen led offense is
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: going to average three touchdowns a game. They may take
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: a step back to start the season, but really, how
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: much less could they give Alan Regression could be in quotes. Yeah,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: I think that's fair. I just think for a team
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: whose identity was running the football, and for a team
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: whose best thing about them last year was running the football,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: the guy who ran the entire your run game and
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: called it on game day was Aaron Kromer, and now
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: he's gone. And that guy also coached the offensive line
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: that was extremely important to the offense, and two of
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: your starting offensive linemen are gone. So the biggest chunk
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: of what made your offense good is gone. And yes,
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Josh Allen can do a lot on his own, but
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: just think back to last year in the games, when
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: the run game could not get going. This offense was
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: kind of super dead in the water and stuck in
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: neutral and stuck in molasses a little bit. So again,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna be. They're not gonna go
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: to become like a bottom five offense or even a
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: bottom ten offense, but I think there is a scenario
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: where they can kind of falter to like middle of
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: the league type of offense, and I think that would
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: be a big regression. And the only reason it wouldn't
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: be a full on regression is because of Allen. But
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: the run game mattered a lot. That was the straw
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: that stirred the drink, and it was a good chunk
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: of the drink, and a good chunk of that chunk
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: is now out the door. So we'll see. Jamal says
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: with the new coaches, especially on defense, will be different
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: types of players than the mcdermom type of players. I hope,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: so fingers crossed. I've wanted this for years. I wanted
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: a new defensive scheme, structure, body types, archetypes, all of
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: that I'm hoping. I'm hoping. I'm hoping. Swig bif Y says,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: feels like getting our running backs involved in the passing
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: game has been something we've all hoped for for years
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: and years. Lots of guys have promise and none of
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: them ever came became that passing threat. I'll say this
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: two seasons ago, twenty twenty four, Brady's first year, the
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: running back usage in the pass game was off the charts,
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: Cook Johnson, Ray Davis. They I forget the numbers, but
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: their EPA per target, their production out of the running
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: back spot surpassed everyone. Like the Niners weren't second because
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: of what they did with McCaffrey, but the Bills dwarfed
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: everybody last year. The problem in twenty twenty five last
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: year was they essentially did the exact same stuff the
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: year before that worked the year before, and everybody cane
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: onto it. They essentially were just trying to use the
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: running backs on those rail routes, whether it was with
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: a little snag or hitch from the outside receiver or
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: if it was tied to mesh and defenses were just
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: staying over the top of it and sometimes it would
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: be there, but Alan didn't want to put the trigger
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: or it was covered right away. There wasn't just that
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: next level building of getting running backs involved in the
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: pass game. So I think it was there, and I
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: think Cook can't do some. I put more of the
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: struggles of the running back pass game on Brady from
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: last year, just not evolving enough and not building enough
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: and not layering enough, and some on Alan because Allen
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: could have made some decisions there that could have benefited it.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: But yeah, I think it's more on the structure and
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: things conceptually than I do. Then I think it is
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: on the actual backs themselves. I think Cook can do
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: more as a pass catcher. Hmm, all right, I'm gonna
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: say goodbye to you folks. If you have not already,
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: please please please think you drop a LKE on this episode.
