- 0:09Speaker 1: It's the good report.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Tonight, I pick up the Prime Minister making a false
- 0:16Speaker 2: claim when he accused police in Los Angeles a deliberately
- 0:20Speaker 2: shooting an Australian journalists with a rubber bullet. Meanwhile, the
- 0:24Speaker 2: ABC now says, yes, we were shot at two, but
- 0:27Speaker 2: wait until you see what they were up to. Well,
- 0:30Speaker 2: so tonight, De la Musk apologizes to Donald Trump after
- 0:33Speaker 2: their spectacular fallout, and one final embarrassment for Greta Tunberg
- 0:38Speaker 2: as she's thrown out of Israel plus China and Russia
- 0:42Speaker 2: flex while America burns. China's now threatening Japan. But first,
- 0:48Speaker 2: the hypocritical Albanezi government really does hate Israel, doesn't it.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It's acting like a Greta Tunberg and has now hit
- 0:57Speaker 2: two Israeli ministers with sanctions. But I want to know why,
- 1:02Speaker 2: why this is in Australia's interests to act like useful
- 1:06Speaker 2: idiots of radical Islam and to anger democratic allies like
- 1:11Speaker 2: Israel and the US. Our government is sanctioning Israel's National
- 1:16Speaker 2: security minister Itamar Benvie and It's finance minister Beziel Smotrich
- 1:22Speaker 2: for allegedly inciting violence against his Palestinians in the West
- 1:26Speaker 2: Bank and creating new Israeli settlements there, supposedly imperiling long
- 1:30Speaker 2: term stability in the region.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We are concerned, alongside the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand,
- 1:38Speaker 3: Norway and others about the unlawful and violent settlement enterprise
- 1:43Speaker 3: in the West Bank that is not consistent with two states.
- 1:47Speaker 3: We believe, like the international community and our partners, that
- 1:51Speaker 3: two states is the best chance for peace in the
- 1:53Speaker 3: Middle East and peace and security for Israelis.
- 1:58Speaker 2: The two ministers fail, travel restrictions and the freezing of assets,
- 2:02Speaker 2: and Israel's Foreign minister is furious. It is outrageous.
- 2:10Speaker 4: That elected representatives and members of the government are subjected
- 2:15Speaker 4: to this kind of measures.
- 2:18Speaker 2: We've also infuriated the Trump administration. Secretary of State Marco
- 2:23Speaker 2: Rubio said, the United States condemns the sanctions imposed by
- 2:27Speaker 2: the governments of United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, New Zealand, and
- 2:30Speaker 2: Australia on two sitting members of the Israeli cabinet. These
- 2:35Speaker 2: sanctions do not advance ure sled efforts to a Jesus ceasefire,
- 2:39Speaker 2: bring all the hostages home, and end the war, and
- 2:42Speaker 2: Rubio went on, we remind our partners not to forget
- 2:45Speaker 2: who the real enemy is. Excellent advice, but this government
- 2:51Speaker 2: seems out of control now with its attacks on israel
- 2:54Speaker 2: I mean it's banned. Last week, an American tech blogger,
- 2:57Speaker 2: Hillel Full that was outrageous enough thought was just coming
- 3:01Speaker 2: to Australia raised money for Israel's version the Red Cross,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but was banned for disputing unproven claims by their Masteriskriup
- 3:08Speaker 2: that Israeli soldiers last year slatted one hundred and twelve
- 3:12Speaker 2: Palestinians waiting for food. The governor also accused him of
- 3:16Speaker 2: Islamophobia for a post which he correctly noted that most
- 3:19Speaker 2: Palatinians had backed the October seventh massacre of Jews. Now
- 3:25Speaker 2: let me admit that these two Israeli ministers now being sanctioned,
- 3:29Speaker 2: they are allowed now the rat bags of Israel's far right. Smotrich,
- 3:33Speaker 2: for instance, said last year that starving the two million
- 3:37Speaker 2: Palatinians in Gaza might he said and un quoting, be
- 3:41Speaker 2: justified and moral in order to free the hostages. The
- 3:45Speaker 2: hostage is still held by Hamas, although Israel does continue
- 3:48Speaker 2: to send Gaza truckloads of food at Smotrich two weeks
- 3:52Speaker 2: ago also approved twenty two new West Bank settlements, claiming
- 3:56Speaker 2: this would avoid the establishment of a Palestinian state. The
- 4:02Speaker 2: ben Vir is worse is a river to the sea guy,
- 4:07Speaker 2: except he means the whole area from the Mediterraneans of
- 4:10Speaker 2: the Jordan River should be Israel, not Palestine. He last
- 4:14Speaker 2: month called for the destruction of the alex Mosque, built
- 4:17Speaker 2: in Jerusalem on the ruins of the Great Second Temple
- 4:20Speaker 2: of Jewish Kings, and he called for Jews who take
- 4:24Speaker 2: back Gaza from the Palestinians, all of it. I well,
- 4:40Speaker 2: that's sure the way to guarantee another century of war,
- 4:43Speaker 2: that idiot. Yet Israeli voters and his Israel's justice system
- 4:48Speaker 2: can be trusted to put Smotrich back in his place.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I mean, very few people vote for him as it is,
- 4:54Speaker 2: and has already been convicted several times of racist excitement. Still,
- 4:59Speaker 2: it's very unhelpful these guys, to say the very least.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But again, what is sanctioning them? How is it in
- 5:08Speaker 2: Australia's interests? In fact, showboating against them could cost us?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Most importantly, Promius Anthony Albanese is again provoked. The United
- 5:18Speaker 2: States are only real protector in the future war. The
- 5:21Speaker 2: US two weeks ago asked US has been more in
- 5:22Speaker 2: our defense albanizea refuse its ambassador to Israel than ask
- 5:26Speaker 2: us to lift our ban on hellel fold Again, is
- 5:30Speaker 2: Albanize refused? And now this now I get it. The
- 5:34Speaker 2: US cannot be dictating our policies, but it can decide
- 5:39Speaker 2: whether we're a country worth giving let's say, a couple
- 5:42Speaker 2: of its rare nuclear submarines. But what really gets me
- 5:48Speaker 2: here is the hypocrisy which does expose this as an
- 5:52Speaker 2: anti Israel kind of posturing. For instance, why does this
- 5:58Speaker 2: government sanction two ministers from one of our democratic allies
- 6:03Speaker 2: but never dreams of sanctioning any minister from the hostile
- 6:07Speaker 2: Chinese dictatorship like you know, for instance, for jailing a
- 6:11Speaker 2: million Muslim leaders. And if people demanding all, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 2: all the land from the river to the sea must
- 6:17Speaker 2: be punished, why dierfrem Mens of Pennywong post pictures of
- 6:20Speaker 2: himself supporting Nasa Mashni, head of the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Who is this a time for Palestine to be free
- 6:27Speaker 2: from the river to the sea and that means no Israel?
- 6:32Speaker 2: And if supposedly inciting violence is a crime. Why is
- 6:37Speaker 2: wog not sanction Mamued Abbas, president of the Palaestinian authority
- 6:40Speaker 2: that's in the West Bank, who still runs a pay
- 6:43Speaker 2: for Slagh scheme of pensions for terrorists and their families.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And if trash talking that makes peace less likely deserves sanctions,
- 6:53Speaker 2: why has it Wang also impost sanctions on President Abbas
- 6:58Speaker 2: for defending Hitler's genocide of six million Jews.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Wakanda and.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Gan Yamluna assays.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And the hypocrisy here is absolutely astonishing, and so is
- 7:20Speaker 2: the Prime minister's lack of awareness of his own government's
- 7:23Speaker 2: double standards. How is he today shrugged off Rubio's criticism
- 7:27Speaker 2: of these sanctions like.
- 7:28Speaker 6: This, Australia makes their own decisions based upon the assessments
- 7:34Speaker 6: that we make.
- 7:35Speaker 2: But isn't that Israel's argument exactly? It says it's a
- 7:42Speaker 2: sovereign democracy too. Isn't it making its own decisions in
- 7:46Speaker 2: its own national interests? So why are alban Easy and
- 7:49Speaker 2: Penny Wong interfering, imposing useless sanctions which can only anger
- 7:55Speaker 2: our friends and embold in our enemies. Joining me from Jerusalem?
- 8:03Speaker 2: As Mark Sofi was Israel's ambassador to Australia, Mark. Always
- 8:07Speaker 2: great to see you. I am absolutely certain. I bet
- 8:12Speaker 2: my house that you are no friend of these two
- 8:15Speaker 2: ministers that we've now sanctioned. Tell us about them.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Well, you'd be betting correctly one hundred I've got one
- 8:23Speaker 7: hundred dollars on your bet. I'm certainly no fan of benguin'smodrich,
- 8:29Speaker 7: but frankly, in that I'm not alone. I'm together with
- 8:32Speaker 7: the one over ninety percent of the Israeli population. They're
- 8:36Speaker 7: polling today around six to seven percent, and they joined
- 8:40Speaker 7: together in the last elections to maximize their electoral electoral strength,
- 8:46Speaker 7: but immediately after the elections they split.
- 8:49Speaker 5: You're right, as you mentioned.
- 8:51Speaker 7: Earlier, Andrew, that Benvie is generally considered to be more extreme.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Than smart Ridge.
- 8:58Speaker 7: But frankly, the compete over the same political base, of
- 9:01Speaker 7: the same political electorate, and so in many ways and
- 9:05Speaker 7: certain occasions they're going overboard in trying to make more
- 9:10Speaker 7: each trying to make a more outlandish statement than the other.
- 9:14Speaker 7: But as I say, these are two parties pretty much
- 9:18Speaker 7: in the same political frame of mind.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So what would our sanctions actually achieve if they're already
- 9:26Speaker 2: lacking the support of the vast majority of the Israeli public.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Well in and of themselves.
- 9:35Speaker 7: I don't think the Australian sanctions will have too much
- 9:38Speaker 7: effect by themselves on Smotrich and Bank personally. I don't
- 9:44Speaker 7: know of their interaction with Australia. I should suppose it's
- 9:46Speaker 7: pretty minimal. But together with the other countries of the
- 9:50Speaker 7: UK and Canada, especially the larger ones. I wouldn't say
- 9:54Speaker 7: Norway in this particular instance, but certainly UK and Canada,
- 9:57Speaker 7: it has a wider meaning and perhaps some practical effects
- 10:00Speaker 7: as well.
- 10:01Speaker 5: I think more it's showing them.
- 10:04Speaker 7: It seems to me to be some sort of a move,
- 10:07Speaker 7: of a symbolic move, maybe to bring them out into
- 10:13Speaker 7: the isolation of the international community. But I think that
- 10:16Speaker 7: if you look at the wider spectrum, it might have
- 10:19Speaker 7: a greater effect than each individual country on its own.
- 10:25Speaker 2: But I don't get why they get sanctioned and Mamoudebasta's
- 10:29Speaker 2: not people like him. I mean, it's quite extraordinary to me,
- 10:33Speaker 2: and that's what really disserves me here. It seems to
- 10:36Speaker 2: Australian government's attitude to Israel is pretty one sided now
- 10:41Speaker 2: and I just wonder how the Australian government is now
- 10:43Speaker 2: seen in Israel.
- 10:46Speaker 7: Well, I won't get into the hypocrisy business because that's
- 10:48Speaker 7: more an internally Australian issue.
- 10:50Speaker 5: But of course one can ask and one should ask questions.
- 10:53Speaker 7: If one puts sanctions on people as extreme as Benguir
- 10:57Speaker 7: and smottit is that being applied throughout the international community,
- 11:01Speaker 7: including in the Middle East and other countries, as you mentioned.
- 11:05Speaker 7: And the truth is that ben Vere and Smotrich have
- 11:07Speaker 7: made statements which are so unbelievably awful. You mentioned that
- 11:11Speaker 7: in your opening remarks that many of us in Israel,
- 11:16Speaker 7: all the vast majority of us, feel absolutely reviled by
- 11:20Speaker 7: calls to wipe out an Arab village, which Smotrich said
- 11:24Speaker 7: the last year after a terrorist outrage, and later backtrack
- 11:27Speaker 7: said he doesn't mean the people, he means that all
- 11:30Speaker 7: this type of positing, it's really quite abominable for many,
- 11:36Speaker 7: for almost.
- 11:36Speaker 5: All of us.
- 11:37Speaker 7: As far as is how Australia is viewed in Israel,
- 11:40Speaker 7: I think it depends more Andrew on who you're talking about.
- 11:45Speaker 7: The government obviously, as you've seen, is obviously very upset
- 11:49Speaker 7: with the Australian position on the current government is very
- 11:51Speaker 7: but on the Middle East, on the Gaza war, and
- 11:54Speaker 7: Israel and the Palestinians, and they've made that position quite
- 11:59Speaker 7: known public on a number of occasions. But I think
- 12:02Speaker 7: if you're looking at the wider public, the general public,
- 12:04Speaker 7: I'm not one hundred percent sure they're tuned in or
- 12:07Speaker 7: they're honed in on Australia and its approach to the
- 12:14Speaker 7: Middle East and to Israel. One thing that has affected
- 12:18Speaker 7: us very greatly here in Israel among the general public
- 12:23Speaker 7: is the issue of anti Semitism in Australia, which we've
- 12:26Speaker 7: seen the synagogue being attacked, We've seen that. We all
- 12:30Speaker 7: remember the despicable state and screaming in the streets against Israel,
- 12:36Speaker 7: against Jews, the demonstrations in Federation Square in Melbourne, et cetera,
- 12:41Speaker 7: et cetera, and these get very high prominence here and
- 12:45Speaker 7: people often ask, and I must have is enough being done? It's,
- 12:49Speaker 7: in certain aspects a hypothetical question, but the clam down
- 12:53Speaker 7: must be total and the punishment must be overriding. And
- 12:58Speaker 7: a lot of people ask, here is Australia doing enough
- 13:02Speaker 7: to clamp down on the anti Semitism within the country.
- 13:05Speaker 7: That I think is more of an issue in the
- 13:07Speaker 7: general public, which are much less knowledgeable about how Australia
- 13:12Speaker 7: views in the Middle East and how Australia used the
- 13:16Speaker 7: Israel Gaza equation.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Well, Mark, So for the answer to that is enough
- 13:21Speaker 2: being done. The answer is quite clear, No it is not. Mark,
- 13:24Speaker 2: So thank you very much indeed for your time, really appreciated.
- 13:29Speaker 2: The rights and protests in Los Angeles have now spread
- 13:32Speaker 2: to other cities like Chicago and New York. Now I'm
- 13:45Speaker 2: going to say some of the coverage seems bought by
- 13:48Speaker 2: a hatred of Donald Trump. I mean, you're told that
- 13:50Speaker 2: these riots because Trump has just been mean to nice immigrants.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Since the line picked up from California Governor Gavin Newsom,
- 13:58Speaker 2: who's stipped for run for president for the Democrats next election.
- 14:03Speaker 8: His agents are arresting dishwashers, gardeners, day laborers, and seamstresses.
- 14:10Speaker 8: That's just weakness, weakness masquerading as strength. Donald Trump's government
- 14:15Speaker 8: isn't protecting our communities. They're traumatizing our communities.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And US is clearly supporting aligning himself with the eleven
- 14:25Speaker 2: million illegal immigrants in America at the moment, and he
- 14:30Speaker 2: claims that Trump's attempt to keep his promise to deport
- 14:32Speaker 2: a million of them, and especially the criminals among them.
- 14:36Speaker 2: It's just the sign of a kind of you know,
- 14:38Speaker 2: American Nazi regime.
- 14:41Speaker 8: Authoritarian regimes begin by targeting people who are least able
- 14:46Speaker 8: to defend themselves, but they do not stop there. Trump
- 14:50Speaker 8: and as loyalists, they thrive on division because it allows
- 14:53Speaker 8: them to take more power and exert even more control.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I mean, that is just so stupid and inflammatory. And
- 15:02Speaker 2: you've got to ask how many of the writers really
- 15:04Speaker 2: are protesting for more niceness when they are trying to
- 15:09Speaker 2: kill officials, even shooting at them, And is this really
- 15:19Speaker 2: a protest for peace? When writers are drilling holes in
- 15:22Speaker 2: the tires of people's trucks, when they are looting shops,
- 15:27Speaker 2: when they are trying to break into a seven eleven
- 15:30Speaker 2: held back by terrified staff, when they are destroying people's businesses,
- 15:35Speaker 2: their dreams, And how many reporters even ask what it
- 15:44Speaker 2: means for the United States. They have so many protesters,
- 15:48Speaker 2: rioters flying a foreign flag, the Mexican flag, as they
- 15:52Speaker 2: attack American police and officials, And when illegal immigrants or
- 15:56Speaker 2: Latino CNN host say, oh, well, California really is Mexican.
- 16:02Speaker 5: We don't agree with the term illegal.
- 16:04Speaker 8: We're on documentary We've been here for thousands of years.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Are you guys showed up?
- 16:09Speaker 2: That's this hard city and this was Mexico.
- 16:12Speaker 7: You can't get us out of the land. That was our.
- 16:17Speaker 9: Fashion.
- 16:20Speaker 2: That was on the Latino. Host to My Wednesday political panel,
- 16:24Speaker 2: Cameron Milner, former chief of staff to labor leader Bill
- 16:26Speaker 2: shut now director of GXO Strategies, and Michael koffsa forming
- 16:31Speaker 2: New South Wales labor treasurer. Cameron, how do you interpret
- 16:35Speaker 2: what is happening in La Well, that's a riot, isn't it, Andrew?
- 16:40Speaker 4: I mean, these people are breaking the law when they
- 16:42Speaker 4: came to America. They're breaking the law as they leave America. Well,
- 16:45Speaker 4: little wonder little one of their torching things, fighting with police,
- 16:49Speaker 4: fighting with authorities. Any other governor who wasn't running for
- 16:52Speaker 4: Democrat national presidential nomination in two and a half years
- 16:55Speaker 4: time would have already called the national Guardian any other governor.
- 16:58Speaker 4: But Newsom, No, he's trying to make this a political
- 17:00Speaker 4: stage between himself and Trump while his cities are burning.
- 17:04Speaker 4: And these rioters need to be shown the full fourth
- 17:06Speaker 4: of law and people who aren't supposed to be there,
- 17:08Speaker 4: the illegal immigrants should be sent home. A one Way
- 17:11Speaker 4: bus ticket to Jurez in Mexico. That's where it should start.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Michael Costler, how do you interpret what's happening in the
- 17:20Speaker 2: LA yourself? Because I am astonished to see so many
- 17:25Speaker 2: Democrats lining up to attack Donald Trump, when in fact,
- 17:29Speaker 2: Barack Obama, if he deported hundreds of thousands of think
- 17:33Speaker 2: four hundred thousand illegal immigrants and I didn't see riots
- 17:37Speaker 2: in California, then.
- 17:39Speaker 9: Look, Andrew, I think what's occurring is appalling, obviously. But
- 17:43Speaker 9: in terms of Trump, he's shown real leadership on this,
- 17:46Speaker 9: and I'm in real political leadership as well.
- 17:48Speaker 1: He will split the Democrats.
- 17:50Speaker 9: Any chance Newsom has a running for president is going
- 17:54Speaker 9: to be crueled by this particular performance he's had. I mean,
- 17:58Speaker 9: you know, the Democratic parties all this soul searching in
- 18:01Speaker 9: the moaming, talking about the illegal border as being one
- 18:03Speaker 9: of the reasons they lost the election. Yet their prime candidate,
- 18:07Speaker 9: their front runner, is out there defending what the average
- 18:11Speaker 9: American person would see as being appalling behavior. And I
- 18:14Speaker 9: note in that film clip, Andrew, you saw lots of
- 18:17Speaker 9: immigrants trying to defend their seven to eleven.
- 18:20Speaker 1: These were people that.
- 18:21Speaker 9: Came in legally, and this is the heart of the matter,
- 18:24Speaker 9: people have come legally into America from an immigrant background,
- 18:27Speaker 9: and they don't want illegals in there, and we saw
- 18:29Speaker 9: that in the last presidential election. I think Donald Trump's
- 18:33Speaker 9: played his brilliantly politically.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And I think it's also showing leadership. I mean, you
- 18:39Speaker 2: cannot have an illegal immigrant invasioncy really of another country.
- 18:45Speaker 2: He don't have a country if you allow that. Here, Cameron,
- 18:49Speaker 2: here's a really amazing back down the world's richest many Lamusque.
- 18:53Speaker 2: He's just apologized to US President Donald Trump after their
- 18:57Speaker 2: amazing fallout posted. I regret some of my posts about
- 19:02Speaker 2: President Trump. They went too far, and I guess he
- 19:06Speaker 2: means that when he said Trump should be impeached, and
- 19:09Speaker 2: when he said that Trump had been named in the
- 19:11Speaker 2: secret files and saw his pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which I'm
- 19:14Speaker 2: sure is not true. What's going on here? Do you think?
- 19:20Speaker 4: Well, Elon Musk, I think's worked out politics one O one,
- 19:23Speaker 4: which is that if you want to be a politician,
- 19:24Speaker 4: put your name on a ballot paper. If not, keep quiet.
- 19:27Speaker 4: I mean, what he did last week was just appalling,
- 19:30Speaker 4: and he'd have to spend an awful lot of time
- 19:31Speaker 4: on his knees begging for forgiveness a lot longer than
- 19:34Speaker 4: it took him to type that tweet. Andrew, after what
- 19:36Speaker 4: he said about the President of the United States, he
- 19:38Speaker 4: was elected by three hundred and twelve college rights three
- 19:40Speaker 4: and twelve college rights overwhelming majority for Trump. Musk was
- 19:44Speaker 4: unelected and shouldn't have said what he said last week.
- 19:48Speaker 2: What do you think here, Michael, Is this one where
- 19:52Speaker 2: he genuinely realizes, you know, friends of intervened. Look, I
- 19:56Speaker 2: did go to Farry, did delete those two tweets I
- 20:00Speaker 2: mentioned over the weekend. I think it was, or is
- 20:04Speaker 2: it that he fears what Trump might do to him.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Andrew.
- 20:10Speaker 9: I think he probably regrets what he said about Trump,
- 20:13Speaker 9: you know. And the worst part about what he did
- 20:15Speaker 9: say about Trump was that his actual criticisms of that
- 20:18Speaker 9: bill are right on the money. I mean, it is
- 20:20Speaker 9: a mad bill, it's going to increase debt, and it's
- 20:23Speaker 9: got all sorts of problems in it. And clearly he
- 20:26Speaker 9: detracted from his own message. As somebody that is usually
- 20:29Speaker 9: very good on social media, I think he blew a
- 20:32Speaker 9: fuse and he ought to apologize. And I think he's
- 20:34Speaker 9: done the right thing.
- 20:38Speaker 2: And legend has just been called. In Tasmania July nineteen Cameron,
- 20:44Speaker 2: this was this is becoming very interesting because the Lieutenant
- 20:51Speaker 2: governor of the state was actually sitting on his decision
- 20:54Speaker 2: whether to grant the poll or not. Jeremy Roth clear
- 21:01Speaker 2: he actually wanted this election rather than agree to step
- 21:05Speaker 2: down after having a vote of no confidence passing him
- 21:08Speaker 2: personally and make way for one of his colleagues to
- 21:11Speaker 2: takeo which would have avoided the need for an election.
- 21:16Speaker 2: There was already talk that some of his colleagues would
- 21:20Speaker 2: indeed like him to step down and replace him. But now,
- 21:23Speaker 2: of course, with the election called, that won't happen. What
- 21:25Speaker 2: do you make of all that?
- 21:28Speaker 4: Well, I think the most democratic thing is that the
- 21:30Speaker 4: voters that tasmade have got to say on what's happened
- 21:32Speaker 4: over the last sixteen months.
- 21:34Speaker 2: If debt this.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Incredible AFL stadium, which seems to be eleven games a
- 21:38Speaker 4: year for a billion dollars, If the state doesn't want that,
- 21:41Speaker 4: the state's voters can vote that way. Now, so Jeremy
- 21:44Speaker 4: Rockcliffe has put his future before the people, which is
- 21:46Speaker 4: what you should do in this situation. Dean, we didn't
- 21:49Speaker 4: have the numbers. Dean Win wasn't going to govern with
- 21:51Speaker 4: the Greens as a labor minority governed. He wanted to
- 21:54Speaker 4: force it back to the people. And now voters of
- 21:56Speaker 4: TASMANI to get to decide.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Oh look, I hope they say, well, it's a bit
- 22:02Speaker 2: hard to untangle, you know, voters reasons for anything in
- 22:06Speaker 2: a binary election thing, you know, yes or no. But
- 22:09Speaker 2: Michael Costa, it was just insane that the Tasmanian government
- 22:15Speaker 2: was building a stadium that's now blowing out to nearly
- 22:20Speaker 2: one billion dollars in an island of half a million
- 22:25Speaker 2: people that already has two AFL's grounds and this stadium
- 22:29Speaker 2: would only see twenty three thousand people nearly a billion dollars.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I mean, this is insane.
- 22:37Speaker 9: But it's also consistent with what's going on across all
- 22:40Speaker 9: of our state governments unfortunately, and you.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Know that better than I do in Victoria.
- 22:45Speaker 9: And I'm wondering what's going to happen in Queensland, Cameron
- 22:49Speaker 9: with the Olympics coming up on these stadiums.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Very true, Michael Vertruely, I agree.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I agree totally with Cameron. I mean, let the people
- 22:56Speaker 1: decide this if they want the.
- 22:57Speaker 9: Stadium, Andrew, They've got a choice to meet it in
- 23:01Speaker 9: terms of increased taxation or increased borrowings, which is even
- 23:04Speaker 9: worse a position to be in. But you know, let's
- 23:07Speaker 9: wait and see what happens on the July nineteenth.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Just very quickly, Cameron, I know I've run out of time,
- 23:13Speaker 2: but I just want to ask you. After eighteen years
- 23:16Speaker 2: the ABC's candace once flagship Q and A show, which
- 23:20Speaker 2: was usually you know, had one conservative guest against four leftists,
- 23:26Speaker 2: against the leftists hosts as well, and against the leftist
- 23:29Speaker 2: audience that was free to boo him. It's ratings just tanked.
- 23:33Speaker 2: What does that tell you.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Well, it doesn't it tell you that the ABC couldn't
- 23:38Speaker 4: come a moment too soon. I mean after eighteen years,
- 23:40Speaker 4: eighteen years too long for Q and A. Quite frankly,
- 23:43Speaker 4: look anything after the Antiques Roadshow on the ABC is
- 23:46Speaker 4: the lefty witching hour these days? Andrew, so Q and
- 23:48Speaker 4: A was just one of a long line of programs
- 23:50Speaker 4: which taxpayers pay for lefties to take the megaphone and
- 23:54Speaker 4: shout back at us.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Camera. Milner, Michael Koffsler, thank you very much to you both.
- 24:02Speaker 2: After the break, the Prime Minister called out telling a
- 24:05Speaker 2: falsehood in accusing American police of deliberately shooting an Australian
- 24:09Speaker 2: journalist last night. I missed some big falsehoods by the
- 24:16Speaker 2: Prime Minister. Anthony Albanize said yesterday he had complained to
- 24:20Speaker 2: the US about Channel known journalist Lauren Tomarsi being shot
- 24:23Speaker 2: by police with a rubber bullet while covering the Los
- 24:26Speaker 2: Angeles right. He called it a deliberate attack on a journalist.
- 24:30Speaker 6: Well, she was clearly identified, was clearly identified. You know,
- 24:37Speaker 6: there was no ambiguity. She wasn't wearing a trackie. She's
- 24:43Speaker 6: wearing a helmet and something I identified her as media.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Well, actually Tamarsi wasn't wearing anything saying she was a journalist,
- 24:51Speaker 2: certainly not a helmet, and police behind her wouldn't have
- 24:54Speaker 2: seen her microphone. But journalists seem to be competing now
- 24:58Speaker 2: to say they've been hurt by those police too. The
- 25:01Speaker 2: ABC says one of its cameramen was hit by some
- 25:04Speaker 2: kind of police projectile, which actually is a surprising given
- 25:08Speaker 2: that he was standing right behind protests wheeling big bins
- 25:11Speaker 2: at the police. And then this ABC reporter also had
- 25:16Speaker 2: a complaint.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We actually got.
- 25:18Speaker 10: Hit and you can see why they call it tear gas.
- 25:20Speaker 10: It reallea burns your eyes, it burns your nose, your lips,
- 25:23Speaker 10: your throat.
- 25:24Speaker 11: It's pretty unpleasant.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I've got to.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Say, if you wonder why so many journalists are saying, oh,
- 25:29Speaker 2: I've been hurt by this police, it's because so many
- 25:32Speaker 2: are reporting from the protester's side. I mean literally standing
- 25:37Speaker 2: with the protesters, and very often figuratively too. If they
- 25:42Speaker 2: stood with a police, they'd be a lot safer, and
- 25:45Speaker 2: maybe they take a different view seeing police being hurt.
- 25:53Speaker 2: But while the media is distracted by these anti Trump
- 25:56Speaker 2: and anti American riots, the biggest enemies of the West,
- 25:59Speaker 2: the flexing name muscles again. Japan's now warning that China
- 26:04Speaker 2: has sent two of its aircraft carries into the Pacific
- 26:07Speaker 2: for the first time, including in Japan's economic waters practicing
- 26:12Speaker 2: for what you may ask, and the head of NATO,
- 26:15Speaker 2: Mark Rutter says Chinese allied Russia is also a threat.
- 26:20Speaker 12: Yeah producers in three months, but the whole of NATO
- 26:24Speaker 12: produces in a year, and its defense industial base is
- 26:29Speaker 12: expected to roll out fifteen hundred tanks, three thousand armored
- 26:33Speaker 12: vehicles and two hundreds is Scanda missiles. This year alone.
- 26:39Speaker 12: Russia could be ready to use military force against NATO
- 26:43Speaker 12: within five years. Five years. Let's not get ourselves. We
- 26:49Speaker 12: are all on the eastern flanknow. The new generation of
- 26:53Speaker 12: Russian missiles travel at many times the speed of sound,
- 26:57Speaker 12: the distance between European capitals. It's only a matter of minutes.
- 27:03Speaker 12: There is no longer east or West joining me.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Is Michael Schubridge, a former senior defense official now founder
- 27:10Speaker 2: and director of Strategic Analysis Australia. Michael, it's always great
- 27:15Speaker 2: to see you. Let's take them in order. China sending
- 27:18Speaker 2: two aircraft carriers to train near Japanese waters for the
- 27:21Speaker 2: first time.
- 27:23Speaker 13: What does that mean, Well, Andrew, China has built a
- 27:28Speaker 13: big navy, a big powerful navy, because it wants to
- 27:32Speaker 13: use that powerful navy. So what it wants to do
- 27:35Speaker 13: is isolate Taiwan, and these aircraft carriers being in the
- 27:39Speaker 13: Western Pacific help but do that, and it wants to
- 27:42Speaker 13: intimidate Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. So it's about
- 27:47Speaker 13: an aggressive, coercive China building the military muscle and now
- 27:52Speaker 13: showing that's what it's got.
- 27:56Speaker 2: And do you think there's actually do you think it's
- 28:01Speaker 2: actually meant as a threat. The fact that it was
- 28:04Speaker 2: just outside or actually in Japan's economic water is one
- 28:08Speaker 2: of those aircraft carriage. Is that just oh well, that's
- 28:11Speaker 2: one of the things that happened when you're exercising or
- 28:14Speaker 2: is that quite pointed? This is quite pointed.
- 28:18Speaker 13: It's a bigger version of that Chinese navy task force
- 28:22Speaker 13: that circumnavigated Australia back in March. It's deliberately intimidating and threatening,
- 28:30Speaker 13: and the Japanese know it. That's why they've doubled defense spending,
- 28:33Speaker 13: breaking with their post World War II limit, and they're
- 28:37Speaker 13: increasing their military power, particularly in their navy, very quickly.
- 28:42Speaker 13: The Japanese are being open with their people and urgent
- 28:47Speaker 13: with increasing their military power in a way Our government
- 28:51Speaker 13: simply isn't.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Now to that warning by Mark Rutzer, the head of NATO,
- 28:57Speaker 2: that's you know, European and North American Treaty organization. Is
- 29:02Speaker 2: that just saber rattling saying, look, you know, Russia is
- 29:06Speaker 2: arming itself at four times the rate that Europe is,
- 29:10Speaker 2: even though Europe's economy is twenty times bigger, and it
- 29:13Speaker 2: could shoot rockets and missiles into any European city. Is
- 29:17Speaker 2: that just saber rattling. Do you think or is there
- 29:19Speaker 2: a real danger?
- 29:22Speaker 13: I think the NATO chief is being very credible and
- 29:27Speaker 13: accurate with what he's saying. The largest military and most
- 29:32Speaker 13: effective military in Europe to face the Russians is Ukraine's military,
- 29:38Speaker 13: And I think the NATO chief is making the point
- 29:41Speaker 13: that if the rest of NATO doesn't really support Ukraine,
- 29:46Speaker 13: then Europe is militarily weak at the moment, and he's
- 29:52Speaker 13: saying if Russia beats Ukraine, it then looks very threatening
- 29:57Speaker 13: to the rest of Europe.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Of course, he also said Russia.
- 30:02Speaker 13: Is enabled in this war in Europe by its partnership
- 30:06Speaker 13: with China. So we've got a kind of shared security
- 30:09Speaker 13: problem in our region with China and in Europe with
- 30:12Speaker 13: Russia because of their partnership.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Yes, I think warning that you know, missus could reign
- 30:20Speaker 2: on London and Paris is probably over the top. I
- 30:23Speaker 2: think it'll be little salami slices. It won't be that,
- 30:29Speaker 2: But we shall see. I mean, you know, we've been
- 30:31Speaker 2: proven wrong. The people who say she'll be right have
- 30:34Speaker 2: been proven wrong before in ninety thirty nine, So we
- 30:37Speaker 2: shall see. Can I just quickly ask you, looking at
- 30:41Speaker 2: the American rights. What are you thinking, Well.
- 30:46Speaker 13: I'm thinking it's a pretty ugly set of scenes in
- 30:51Speaker 13: LA and the two levels of government are not working
- 30:56Speaker 13: well together, the state and federal government. And I'm also
- 30:59Speaker 13: thinking thinking what a contrast between the January sixth riots.
- 31:04Speaker 13: Whether the people that were in prison have been released
- 31:07Speaker 13: and pardoned. But you can bet your house on the
- 31:12Speaker 13: Trump administration wanting to prosecute and jail the rioters in LA.
- 31:17Speaker 13: So I think it looks messy and divided, and it's
- 31:22Speaker 13: obviously political, but no one wants to see that level
- 31:26Speaker 13: of violence on their streets.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yes, it keeps happening under Donald Trump, not because of him,
- 31:34Speaker 2: but because of his enemies. You remember, of course, the
- 31:37Speaker 2: Black Lives Matter riots. Michael Schubridge, thank you so much
- 31:40Speaker 2: for your time. After the break of radical preacher ensued
- 31:45Speaker 2: for allegedly vilifying Jews. Tries to explain himself in court
- 31:49Speaker 2: today and who do you I mentioned a US and
- 31:56Speaker 2: not a fascinating case that I think puts Islam on
- 31:58Speaker 2: trial or should. Prominent Muslim preacher Wisom Haddad from bankstn
- 32:03Speaker 2: Almadina Dawi Center has been sued in the federal court
- 32:06Speaker 2: by the Executive Council of Australian Jury for Racial Discrimination.
- 32:11Speaker 2: In various sermons, he allegedly called yous vile and treacherous
- 32:14Speaker 2: people and more, and he quoted a sacred Islamic text
- 32:18Speaker 2: about killing Jews at the end of days. Well, today
- 32:23Speaker 2: had had got in the witness box to explain himself.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Scone's reporter and host, Karena Marcus, was there to hear
- 32:28Speaker 2: it all and I spoke to her a short while ago.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Karena Marcus, thank you so much for joining me. What
- 32:34Speaker 2: was the evidence today given by Wissam Haddad.
- 32:41Speaker 14: Well, this was with some Haddad's day on the stand,
- 32:44Speaker 14: Andrew and it was a really tough cross examination that
- 32:47Speaker 14: he underweed. His evidence seemed confused and modeled at times.
- 32:52Speaker 14: He was asked about these five speeches he gave back
- 32:55Speaker 14: in November twenty twenty three that are at the center
- 32:59Speaker 14: of this case. The Jewish Group the Executive Council for
- 33:02Speaker 14: Australian Jury claim were anti Semitic and breach the Racial
- 33:07Speaker 14: Discrimination Act. Mister Haddad defended these speeches by saying when
- 33:11Speaker 14: he referred to Jews as the descendants of pigs and
- 33:15Speaker 14: monkeys as vile treatro shifty people who use their wealth
- 33:20Speaker 14: to exert power over the week. He was only referring
- 33:25Speaker 14: to Jews of faith and not Jews by their ethnicity,
- 33:30Speaker 14: so it seemed like he was trying to make some
- 33:33Speaker 14: sort of distinction that could potentially give him a way
- 33:36Speaker 14: out of a breach of a racial discrimination act. But
- 33:41Speaker 14: then he tried to argue that when he was speaking
- 33:44Speaker 14: about Jews today, I'm referring to the Jews that are
- 33:48Speaker 14: in charge of Israel. He kept talking about the Israeli
- 33:52Speaker 14: government and how he was trying in his sermons to
- 33:56Speaker 14: draw a parallel between Jews of the seventh century that
- 34:00Speaker 14: were involved in historic battles with Muslims to the Israeli
- 34:05Speaker 14: government today. So that was his evidence, and he was
- 34:10Speaker 14: challenged on it multiple times by the barrister Peter Braham
- 34:14Speaker 14: sc who pointed out he never made that distinction when
- 34:18Speaker 14: he spoke and his sermons, he simply used the word Jews,
- 34:21Speaker 14: and in fact he told he told the crowd at
- 34:25Speaker 14: his Southward Sydney center that they should there was no
- 34:29Speaker 14: difference between Jews who believed who supported Israel, and Jews
- 34:34Speaker 14: who did not support Israel. He told the crowd they
- 34:37Speaker 14: were all the same, so it was interesting. I tried
- 34:39Speaker 14: to ask him about this as he left court, but
- 34:42Speaker 14: he did not respond to questions. Mister Hadad, is there
- 34:46Speaker 14: a difference between Jews of faith and ethnic Jews?
- 34:51Speaker 2: We have no comment. Thank you very much.
- 34:53Speaker 14: It's been a long Do you think your evidence went
- 34:55Speaker 14: well today on the stand?
- 34:56Speaker 2: Thank you. We can't stay any of the stage.
- 34:58Speaker 14: Do you want to be an online librity? He also
- 35:01Speaker 14: repeatedly said that his sermons came from a religious foundation,
- 35:06Speaker 14: that he was simply quoting Islamic texts, whether it was
- 35:10Speaker 14: the Qoran, the Hadith, or the words of Islamic scholars.
- 35:15Speaker 14: But he found it difficult when he was pressed on
- 35:17Speaker 14: this issue as to how that applied to the Jews
- 35:21Speaker 14: of today by both the judge Angus Stewart and the
- 35:26Speaker 14: barrister for the Jewish.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Group, Caroline. You asked him about wanting to be a celebrity.
- 35:32Speaker 2: What's that about? Yeah?
- 35:36Speaker 14: When I asked that question, it was in regards to
- 35:38Speaker 14: something else that came up during the trial, a line
- 35:41Speaker 14: of questioning from the Jewish Group's barrister. It was put
- 35:44Speaker 14: to mister Haddad that he had made these controversial speeches
- 35:48Speaker 14: about Jews because he wanted to become an online personality
- 35:54Speaker 14: or an online influencer. He was asked about whether that
- 35:58Speaker 14: was indeed his goal he and he said no in
- 36:01Speaker 14: questioning about that, But then it was pointed out that
- 36:05Speaker 14: there had been some previous controversies he'd been involved in.
- 36:09Speaker 14: At one point, he'd ring in regularly and speak to
- 36:12Speaker 14: the former two GV radio host Ray Hadley on the
- 36:15Speaker 14: air about the war in Syria and other issues. He
- 36:19Speaker 14: gave a sermon back in twenty twenty two where he
- 36:23Speaker 14: warned Muslims not to wish people merry Christmas, and he
- 36:27Speaker 14: gave a speech in which he called Hindus worshipers of
- 36:32Speaker 14: cows and monkeys and then mocked them for that, taking
- 36:37Speaker 14: any offense to that when that went public, by making
- 36:42Speaker 14: another video in which he says, I have no beef
- 36:46Speaker 14: with you, and then he tucks into a hamburger McDonald's hamburger.
- 36:51Speaker 14: Was all very strange. But the point to this questioning
- 36:55Speaker 14: is that part of his defense is that these speeches
- 36:57Speaker 14: were made reasonably and in good faith, and the barrister
- 37:01Speaker 14: for the Jewish group said that, well, clearly they weren't,
- 37:05Speaker 14: because this is not a man in our submission, they say,
- 37:09Speaker 14: who engages in serious discussions. He's a person who engages
- 37:13Speaker 14: in mocking, flippant comments of other communities, mocking Christmas, and
- 37:18Speaker 14: mocking people's dietary habits. The Jewish group may call an
- 37:22Speaker 14: expert on Islamic scripture in the morning tomorrow, but it's
- 37:27Speaker 14: not clear if they will. And then the next step
- 37:29Speaker 14: that happens are closing submissions. There were two experts that
- 37:32Speaker 14: were due to be called and that have provided Appi davits,
- 37:36Speaker 14: but it looks like that may not happen.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Karen Marcus, thank you so much for your report today
- 37:43Speaker 2: and hope to catch up with you tomorrow. We'll see
- 37:45Speaker 2: what happens. Thank you so much.
- 37:51Speaker 14: Thanks Andrew.
- 37:52Speaker 2: So the break. One final humiliation for Gritted Tunberg is
- 37:56Speaker 2: she's thrown out of Israel. There's a message from the pilot.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Greta Tunberg, the global warming doom preacher turned Israel haters,
- 38:10Speaker 2: suffered one final embarrassment after she was deported by Israel
- 38:15Speaker 2: after trying and embarrass it by saying to Gaza with
- 38:18Speaker 2: a symbolic bit of food for supposedly starving Palestinians. Now
- 38:23Speaker 2: not only as I showed you last night. Did she
- 38:24Speaker 2: end up having to be fed herself by the Israeli
- 38:27Speaker 2: soldiers who arrested her at sea before they dumped her
- 38:31Speaker 2: on an l AL plane to France. But as she landed,
- 38:35Speaker 2: the captain had a message for her to.
- 38:38Speaker 6: Thank our security forces and the IDF for protecting and
- 38:42Speaker 6: defending our homeland.
- 38:44Speaker 5: And we want to wish to squit Britain al otitizens.
- 38:49Speaker 2: And then when Greta landed in Paris, she couldn't actually
- 38:53Speaker 2: think of anything cruel that those wicked Israelis had done
- 38:56Speaker 2: to her. Try and hint though she did.
- 39:01Speaker 10: No.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I prefer not to go into details about that. There
- 39:05Speaker 1: we were right there, we were detained.
- 39:08Speaker 8: And then we were.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Yeah, joining me is Communications consultant Christy McSweeney has worked
- 39:16Speaker 2: for Coalition prime ministers and premiersk Literasso, commentator and President
- 39:20Speaker 2: of the Western Australian Liberals. Christy, how has Gritter Tunberg
- 39:25Speaker 2: come out of this stunt?
- 39:28Speaker 15: Oh? Look, it hasn't come out well. And I was
- 39:33Speaker 15: very impressed by the IDEFS press conference as well.
- 39:38Speaker 2: We don't hear that level.
- 39:39Speaker 15: Of bravery and political oratory here in Australia. And you
- 39:44Speaker 15: know they they really really told her what they thought
- 39:49Speaker 15: of her stunt, and I'll call it a stunt. But
- 39:54Speaker 15: of course her and her activist cohort and the people
- 39:57Speaker 15: that have followed her career for many years now, they
- 40:01Speaker 15: truly believe in this. They truly believe that this is
- 40:03Speaker 15: the best way to collaborate with world leaders and to
- 40:07Speaker 15: bring attention to the plash of people that they believe
- 40:11Speaker 15: facing an injustice. And this is the way that her
- 40:16Speaker 15: and her followers work these days. You know, it's a
- 40:20Speaker 15: social media exercise, it's a selfie exercise, it's a digital
- 40:26Speaker 15: platform exercise, and it's an activist exercise. I just hope
- 40:30Speaker 15: they grow out of it and you know, become worthwhile
- 40:33Speaker 15: politicians actually having discussions with people to get things done.
- 40:37Speaker 15: But I don't really have a lot of hope that
- 40:39Speaker 15: that's going to happen in the future.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Andrew, Caroline, do you think anything constructive was achieved by
- 40:46Speaker 2: this stunt?
- 40:50Speaker 1: Oh?
- 40:50Speaker 10: Well, I guess it depends whose perspective you're looking from. Like,
- 40:54Speaker 10: I think I think she's been consistent. She's a delusional
- 40:57Speaker 10: limbethyl and she has been She's not a child anymore,
- 41:01Speaker 10: which and look, I was young and stupid at twenty two.
- 41:04Speaker 10: Don't get me wrong, But the simple fact of the
- 41:07Speaker 10: matter is is, like Christie said, it was an absolute stunt.
- 41:10Speaker 10: And just because you think because you're carrying a bag
- 41:12Speaker 10: of flower that somehow you know that customs and international
- 41:19Speaker 10: borders and all of that don't apply to you. I
- 41:21Speaker 10: can't imagine how you can be that entitled and that diluted.
- 41:26Speaker 10: But obviously, for the people who follow her, the constructive
- 41:30Speaker 10: part is that she is the freedom fighter for yet
- 41:33Speaker 10: another very what they would consider to be a worthy cause.
- 41:39Speaker 10: But what is very interesting is that we have now seen,
- 41:42Speaker 10: over the course of a few years a shift in
- 41:46Speaker 10: the sense that platforms that she had available to her
- 41:51Speaker 10: four years ago and five years ago, and serious platforms,
- 41:56Speaker 10: world leaders and the like that there has all all
- 42:00Speaker 10: gone very quiet. So I think the grown ups in
- 42:03Speaker 10: the world have you know, I mean, they have their moments, Andrew,
- 42:07Speaker 10: don't get me wrong, but the adults have taken back
- 42:10Speaker 10: I suppose, remote control of the narrative, and someone like
- 42:14Speaker 10: Greta Thumberg, the adult that she is now, is shown
- 42:18Speaker 10: to just you know, be a complete activist and not
- 42:22Speaker 10: interested actually Andrew and doing anything that is constructive.
- 42:26Speaker 2: You make a good point about you know, it must
- 42:28Speaker 2: be really hard for someone that in her teens was
- 42:31Speaker 2: being invoted to speak of the UN, speak to French politicians,
- 42:36Speaker 2: speak of the Davos Conference, speak to British politicians, and
- 42:40Speaker 2: now none of them want another scolding from her. Just
- 42:43Speaker 2: on the side, it must be very hard on the ego. Now, Christy,
- 42:48Speaker 2: I have to wonder how hard our police really are
- 42:52Speaker 2: looking for the vandals, particularly ones in Melbourne have been
- 42:55Speaker 2: tearing down or defacing our statues, including a Melbourne founder,
- 42:59Speaker 2: John Battle, and no one arrested. Also a statue of
- 43:05Speaker 2: James Cook of course has been cut down, others torn apart.
- 43:10Speaker 2: But it's somehow managed to find some of the vandals
- 43:12Speaker 2: and give them even more flattering publicity of a look.
- 43:17Speaker 2: We had people watching for cops and at least five
- 43:19Speaker 2: corners we had stuck two ladders to the plinth so
- 43:23Speaker 2: people could climb on either side, much like following a tree.
- 43:25Speaker 11: Really, they've been called extremists, accused by some of erasing
- 43:30Speaker 11: Australia's history. Police are trying to find out who they
- 43:33Speaker 11: are because over the last year and a half they've
- 43:36Speaker 11: been targeting and tearing down Australia's colonial statues.
- 43:40Speaker 2: But they told one history.
- 43:41Speaker 1: They told the history of white supremacy.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I mean these guys a blow against white supremacies. As
- 43:48Speaker 2: a white man, I mean the arrogance of these people.
- 43:51Speaker 2: But promoted by s B.
- 43:53Speaker 15: S Christy, I'll look promoted by the textpayer funded broadcaster Andrew.
- 43:59Speaker 3: Of course, why.
- 44:01Speaker 15: Wouldn't you find an extreme group that engages in criminal
- 44:06Speaker 15: activity and promote them and showcase their entire strategies so
- 44:09Speaker 15: people can copy them. And the police do say demonstrating
- 44:14Speaker 15: things like that through broadcast does spark copycat activities. And
- 44:20Speaker 15: SBS have gone and done it. That's their right, that's
- 44:24Speaker 15: their editorial decision that they've made. But in all my
- 44:27Speaker 15: years of a journalist, you know, I tend to heed
- 44:29Speaker 15: the advice of police when they say, you know, some
- 44:32Speaker 15: things shouldn't be broadcast and some strategies aren't the best
- 44:35Speaker 15: editorial strategies. You know, there are people in Melbourne. We
- 44:39Speaker 15: saw that guy there in a full mask, Warri a
- 44:42Speaker 15: Kafir as well. He's probably the same people marching in
- 44:45Speaker 15: Melbourne for Free Palestine. And you know, including a number
- 44:50Speaker 15: of people in the Free Palestine movement who hold up
- 44:54Speaker 15: signs at Melbourne protests for gay rights and transgender rights.
- 44:59Speaker 15: All of these active mixed in together on a number
- 45:02Speaker 15: of protested bandwagons, you know, notwithstanding how farcial these concerns
- 45:07Speaker 15: are to all mixed in together, and you know, attacking
- 45:11Speaker 15: Australia's history is just one of them.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Honestly that it seems to be Caroline. You know, these
- 45:18Speaker 2: people think they're radicals, you know, radical individuals, they alone,
- 45:23Speaker 2: and yet they happen to share exactly the same views
- 45:27Speaker 2: and exactly the same issues that you and I. We
- 45:29Speaker 2: could write a checklist of what they think of the
- 45:31Speaker 2: Republic of Palestine, of colonialism of Britain. You know, we
- 45:37Speaker 2: go through it all and we would guess it absolutely correctly.
- 45:39Speaker 2: It's a uniform they put on. But what I don't
- 45:42Speaker 2: get is why SBS can find these people and the
- 45:44Speaker 2: police can't.
- 45:47Speaker 10: Well that that there is a very very interesting That
- 45:51Speaker 10: is a very interesting question. And look, I'm sure the
- 45:56Speaker 10: police are doing their job. I'm not going to cast
- 45:58Speaker 10: dispersions even again Victoria police.
- 46:01Speaker 8: And we've seen some.
- 46:03Speaker 10: Pretty ordinary, ordinary things out of Victoria in recent years.
- 46:09Speaker 10: But the fact of the matter is is that the
- 46:11Speaker 10: journalists and whoever it is who have taken that editorial
- 46:14Speaker 10: position are obviously pretty hungry to find out who has
- 46:19Speaker 10: done this, and obviously whoever has done it wants to
- 46:22Speaker 10: brag about it. But the thing that goes along with
- 46:25Speaker 10: the uniform Andrew is the cowardice of not showing their face,
- 46:30Speaker 10: and that there goes, you know, handing glove with the
- 46:35Speaker 10: rest of the revolting behavior, the belligerence and taking positions
- 46:42Speaker 10: which frankly, you know totally and I don't like you,
- 46:45Speaker 10: totally UnAustralian, totally repulsive to a great part of the population.
- 46:52Speaker 10: But they don't want to show their face. So when
- 46:54Speaker 10: they want to be you know, real revolutionaries and real radicals,
- 46:58Speaker 10: they they can do it without the anonymity.
- 47:04Speaker 2: I thought there were laws against posts and boast, but
- 47:07Speaker 2: I guess there aren't. If sbs will do the post,
- 47:09Speaker 2: then boast for you. Anyway, here we go. Look just
- 47:13Speaker 2: one quick thing. I see so many people online or
- 47:16Speaker 2: in showbiers strike radical poses against the exact authorities and
- 47:21Speaker 2: governments and police that actually rely on It's like this
- 47:24Speaker 2: Rudy out Kipling said and famous poem. People making mock
- 47:27Speaker 2: of uniforms that guard you while you sleep, You take
- 47:31Speaker 2: Grammy Award winning rapper Macklemore, who's also attacked police as
- 47:35Speaker 2: servants of the white supremacy. Here is or was it again?
- 47:39Speaker 1: Oh?
- 47:40Speaker 2: Yeah, the police just bad, just percept the property in
- 47:43Speaker 2: the man a system.
- 47:44Speaker 1: That was designed by white supremacy.
- 47:47Speaker 2: But now police have been called to this same rappers
- 47:50Speaker 2: home to come help after burglars allegedly invaded and doubsed
- 47:53Speaker 2: than any with bear spray? Did anyone at his home?
- 47:56Speaker 2: Dare say? If the police when they needed them? What
- 48:00Speaker 2: did you make of that? Christy?
- 48:03Speaker 15: Oh, it's pretty dangerous, isn't it that these things are
- 48:06Speaker 15: so fashionable. You know, these causes often by people who
- 48:10Speaker 15: are quite ill informed and just think it's a good
- 48:13Speaker 15: idea to have this rhetoric around political actions no matter
- 48:19Speaker 15: what it is. And we've seen here in the United
- 48:21Speaker 15: States that happening again. And you're right, that's a very
- 48:24Speaker 15: appropriate quote. You know, people need protecting. People put on
- 48:27Speaker 15: a uniform, they become first responders, whether it's people defending
- 48:31Speaker 15: our nation and our freedom or police trying to keep
- 48:34Speaker 15: law and order. They deserve our respect for doing their job.
- 48:37Speaker 15: Of course, you know, there are instances, and in particular
- 48:42Speaker 15: in the United States and I'll make the point our
- 48:44Speaker 15: policing system is so different to theirs.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Christopher Sweeney, carond Russo thank you very much to you.
- 48:51Speaker 2: But that's it for me. Sherry Markson next note.
