- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hello, Big Blue Nation. This is not Michael Bennett.
- 0:07Speaker 3: This is Dr.
- 0:08Speaker 2: John Fong again, subbing for Michael Bennett. Michael is in transit.
- 0:13Speaker 2: He's coming back from a great trip from New York.
- 0:16Speaker 2: But fear not, I do have my co-host here with me,
- 0:19Speaker 2: Justin Kalin.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Justin, how are you this morning?
- 0:22Speaker 1: I am fantastic. I'm always super jacked up on Fridays,
- 0:27Speaker 1: knowing that the weekend's here. So that's definitely the case
- 0:30Speaker 1: here again today. I'm pretty pumped. I've got my donut
- 0:33Speaker 1: beside me that I'm ready to eat here in the
- 0:35Speaker 1: next hour or two. So it's good. It's a good Friday.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Plus, you've got me as co-host. Let me ask you this.
- 0:42Speaker 3: You are a professional in the utmost sense of the word.
- 0:46Speaker 3: You're used to working with all sorts of other people.
- 0:52Speaker 2: And you've developed a very good chemistry with Michael over
- 0:56Speaker 2: the course of this show. How difficult is it for
- 1:00Speaker 2: you to just suddenly kind of switch gears and have
- 1:03Speaker 2: some guy like me who is so different from Michael
- 1:07Speaker 2: come on?
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's not difficult for me at all. I mean, it is.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It's different. But in this business, you have to embrace
- 1:15Speaker 1: different and you have to be OK with being able
- 1:18Speaker 1: to adjust to anybody that you work with. And I've
- 1:20Speaker 1: fortunately for me, I've had a lot of experience with
- 1:23Speaker 1: that because I do. I don't I don't know if
- 1:25Speaker 1: you know this or not, but I do a lot
- 1:27Speaker 1: of play by play in the area. And I never
- 1:30Speaker 1: know from a night-to-night basis who I'm going to be
- 1:32Speaker 1: working with. So I am constantly getting new color guys
- 1:37Speaker 1: to work with. So I've had to learn over the
- 1:39Speaker 1: years how to adjust to different people and the way
- 1:41Speaker 1: that they talk because I'm not changing who I am.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I am going to be the exact same person that
- 1:47Speaker 1: I am regardless of who I'm working with. So just
- 1:50Speaker 1: having to learn other people and kind of their mechanisms
- 1:52Speaker 1: and their ways of doing things, I don't know. I
- 1:55Speaker 1: find it as a fun challenge. Let me say that.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I don't know you other than your on-air personality. And
- 2:03Speaker 2: that on-air personality strikes me as being very outgoing and
- 2:08Speaker 2: opinionated and very enthusiastic.
- 2:12Speaker 3: You ever butt heads with Michael on something like that?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Because he seems like he's just as enthusiastic and just
- 2:19Speaker 3: as opinionated. Maybe that's what makes for such good radio
- 2:23Speaker 3: on your end.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Well, with me and him... it's one of those things
- 2:28Speaker 1: where I have to tell myself that he's kind of
- 2:30Speaker 1: a goof and a lot of the opinions that he's
- 2:33Speaker 1: throwing out. I honestly, and this isn't a shot at him,
- 2:37Speaker 1: but a lot of the opinions that he's throwing out,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I honestly have to wonder, does he legitimately believe this?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Or is this like a, is this a radio bit
- 2:46Speaker 1: type thing? Cause he says some ridiculous stuff. So yeah, we,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I mean, we've definitely butted heads in the past, but
- 2:51Speaker 1: it's never been anything serious at the end of the day.
- 2:54Speaker 1: This stuff's all fun. It's supposed to be fun. We're
- 2:56Speaker 1: here to talk sports like that. What a dream. So
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to ever take anything away from the
- 3:02Speaker 1: radio if there is some sort of argument on the
- 3:06Speaker 1: radio that I'm going to be like taking over into
- 3:08Speaker 1: my real life and have bad feelings towards somebody for
- 3:12Speaker 1: that reason. You know, when I walk out of this studio,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I forget everything is what it is.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You are absolutely right in that sports are a pleasant distraction.
- 3:22Speaker 2: We've got enough more serious things in the world that
- 3:25Speaker 2: we can fret over and argue about and die on
- 3:29Speaker 2: the hill.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Sports, I don't think, is one of those things. But
- 3:32Speaker 3: I'm like you.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I'm so grateful that it is such a wonderful outlet
- 3:36Speaker 2: for us to be able to express how we feel
- 3:39Speaker 2: about something that we're passionate about on one hand, but
- 3:42Speaker 2: on the other hand, in the scheme of life, really
- 3:46Speaker 2: doesn't really matter a heck of a whole lot. But
- 3:48Speaker 2: I have noticed that a lot of times you do
- 3:52Speaker 2: purposely and intentionally kind of I won't say bow down
- 3:56Speaker 2: to him, but maybe a seed to some of the
- 3:59Speaker 2: things that he says because, hey, at least on Just
- 4:02Speaker 2: the Cats, it is his show, right?
- 4:04Speaker 3: So you know your role.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I want you to take the opposite role here with me, though.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I want to make sure that you just speak your mind.
- 4:11Speaker 3: You slap me down when you know that I'm wrong.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You give me what I deserve for all my bad takes,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and I know that I do have a lot of
- 4:20Speaker 2: bad takes.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Well, that's really hard with you because I don't think
- 4:23Speaker 1: you're ever wrong, and your takes that I've heard have
- 4:25Speaker 1: been great.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Well, good.
- 4:28Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I'll see if I can set the matter straight today
- 4:31Speaker 2: with some of these bad takes. But I was saying
- 4:34Speaker 2: that Michael and I were completely different. He spent his
- 4:37Speaker 2: time on the East Coast. I was out on the
- 4:40Speaker 2: West Coast. I was out there following, I won't say
- 4:43Speaker 2: my Dodgers. I've kind of adopted them as my team
- 4:47Speaker 2: because my daughter lives out in LA.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I've spent a lot of time out there.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And when you spend a lot of time in a city,
- 4:53Speaker 2: you naturally develop an affinity for some of their sports teams.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I've always loved the Rams. I'm beginning to like the Dodgers.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I was out there for, I think.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It was game three where they lost to the Braves
- 5:06Speaker 3: three to two, but had a wonderful time. Have you
- 5:10Speaker 3: ever been out to Dodger stadium?
- 5:12Speaker 1: I have never been to California.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Never.
- 5:16Speaker 3: And is that intentionally?
- 5:18Speaker 2: I know some people do not ever want to step
- 5:21Speaker 2: foot in the state because how far off the grid
- 5:24Speaker 2: they can become. But my feeling is, and tell me
- 5:28Speaker 2: if this is a bad take, Southern California, one of
- 5:31Speaker 2: the greatest places.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Not only to visit but to live.
- 5:34Speaker 2: But if you live there, you've got to be very,
- 5:37Speaker 2: very aware of certain ways that you have to commute
- 5:41Speaker 2: because the traffic is terrible out there. The cost of
- 5:45Speaker 2: living is very, very high. And they occasionally have an
- 5:48Speaker 2: earthquake that can wipe everything out. But other than that,
- 5:51Speaker 2: beautiful mountains, the ocean, the lifestyle, healthy lifestyle, great food.
- 5:58Speaker 3: I don't know what else there is not to like
- 6:00Speaker 3: about it once you get rid of the traffic, the earthquake,
- 6:03Speaker 3: and the high cost of living.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, those are definitely some negatives. But no,
- 6:07Speaker 1: me never being is not intentional. I want to go to...
- 6:11Speaker 1: California real bad. I mean, especially Southern California. And I'm
- 6:15Speaker 1: a big golfer. And the number one course on my
- 6:19Speaker 1: bucket list is Pebble Beach. So I definitely at some
- 6:22Speaker 1: point want to go to California just to play Pebble Beach,
- 6:24Speaker 1: if nothing else. But, yeah, I've heard California's awesome. I've
- 6:28Speaker 1: always wanted to go, just never had the opportunity.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Well, let's see if we can make it work.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Because the Dodgers Stadium, probably one of the bucket list
- 6:37Speaker 2: items if you're a Major League Baseball fan also.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Beautiful setting. It's right there in Chavez Ravine.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You look out down the left field line. You've got
- 6:47Speaker 2: the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains, the palm trees lining, the right.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Field line, beautiful blue sky.
- 6:55Speaker 2: When that sun sets over Dodger Stadium, it's one of
- 6:59Speaker 2: the most beautiful scenes that you will ever encounter, not
- 7:02Speaker 2: only in sports, but maybe in life itself.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I'm going to tick you off. Okay. Let's hear it.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Dodger Stadium. is probably not even in my top 10
- 7:14Speaker 1: stadiums that I want to visit. Matter of fact, it's
- 7:17Speaker 1: not even number one in California. I want to go
- 7:19Speaker 1: to San Fran's Park before I want to go to
- 7:22Speaker 1: the Dodgers.
- 7:25Speaker 3: And I think we touched on this last time. I
- 7:28Speaker 3: thought you were a traditionalist.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Aren't you one of these people that wants to go
- 7:32Speaker 2: to someplace? Not because it's got all these fancy-smancy urinals
- 7:36Speaker 2: and bathroom setups, but because of the history involved.
- 7:40Speaker 3: In all that.
- 7:41Speaker 2: You walk into Dodger Stadium, they've got that center field
- 7:44Speaker 2: area all built up now. They've statues of Sandy Koufax,
- 7:50Speaker 2: Jackie Robinson. There's just a sense of reverence when you
- 7:55Speaker 2: walk through those gates.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it is cool. And I'm definitely a traditionalist
- 8:00Speaker 1: A little bit, but for me, I'm much more of
- 8:03Speaker 1: an aesthetics guy, and especially if the aesthetics around me
- 8:07Speaker 1: involve water, which is why I want to go to
- 8:09Speaker 1: San Fran much more than I do L.A. Because when
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'm the happiest, when I am truly the happiest in
- 8:15Speaker 1: my life, I am surrounded by water. That is one
- 8:19Speaker 1: thing I've learned about myself in 36 years. Put me
- 8:22Speaker 1: near water, and I am truly happy.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Well, you definitely will enjoy Southern California then, because.
- 8:29Speaker 3: There is plenty of water around there. You will be
- 8:32Speaker 3: in your happy place. I promise you that.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I need to go. You're giving me the itch to
- 8:38Speaker 1: want to make it happen.
- 8:40Speaker 3: But NLCS now LA versus Milwaukee, the ALCS Tampa versus
- 8:46Speaker 3: the winner of Cleveland or Chicago. I assume that you
- 8:49Speaker 3: watch some of that. Maybe not. Maybe you were like me.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I was tuned in mostly to the NFL game last night.
- 8:55Speaker 2: So I didn't catch a lot of this, but evidently
- 8:57Speaker 2: Cleveland rally tied the series at two, two. They've got
- 9:01Speaker 2: the deciding game in Cleveland coming up.
- 9:04Speaker 3: What are your predictions for, for that?
- 9:07Speaker 1: And you know, I don't, I haven't figured that out yet.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I don't know which way I want to lean because
- 9:12Speaker 1: you had the White Sox win the first two games
- 9:14Speaker 1: in Cleveland. Then Cleveland goes into Chicago, wins two games.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So it's been a really weird series where the road
- 9:20Speaker 1: teams won every game so far, and that's very unusual.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But yes, I was watching last night. I'm luckily independently
- 9:27Speaker 1: wealthy enough where I can have a two TV setup.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So I had the NFL game on one TV, baseball
- 9:33Speaker 1: on the other. But It was a great performance by the,
- 9:36Speaker 1: by the, oh my gosh, that was almost a slip
- 9:38Speaker 1: of the tongue by the guardians last night. They had a,
- 9:41Speaker 1: a huge sixth or fifth and sixth inning where they
- 9:44Speaker 1: scored all nine of their runs in those two innings.
- 9:46Speaker 1: So I don't know. They've started really hitting the ball
- 9:48Speaker 1: a lot better, but again, Chicago's already proved that they
- 9:51Speaker 1: can go into Cleveland and win. So I don't know.
- 9:54Speaker 1: To me, give me a coin. Let's flip heads, or tails.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I don't mind having the two TV set up. I
- 10:01Speaker 2: just don't seem to think I can concentrate and focus
- 10:05Speaker 2: and jumping back and forth. I'm not a multitasker much
- 10:09Speaker 2: when it comes to sports.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Well, and I don't want to sit here and act
- 10:12Speaker 1: like I'm, I'm the best at that either because I'm not,
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's more like, so I had the NFL game on
- 10:17Speaker 1: the big TV and then the baseball game was on
- 10:20Speaker 1: a smaller TV. So I'll do the occasional, like look
- 10:22Speaker 1: over how are things going? If it's interesting, like, Like
- 10:26Speaker 1: it was last night in that sixth round ending. I
- 10:28Speaker 1: did watch a majority of that ending just because the football,
- 10:31Speaker 1: my football game might've been at halftime at that, at
- 10:33Speaker 1: that point, actually. So yeah, it was fun. It was
- 10:36Speaker 1: a fun night, fun sports night.
- 10:38Speaker 2: With your early wake-ups now, it has to be difficult
- 10:41Speaker 2: when these games run close to midnight sometimes. This reminds
- 10:47Speaker 2: me of the times when I actually had a real job.
- 10:49Speaker 2: When I had my orthodontic practice, we would see our
- 10:53Speaker 2: first patient at 7 o'clock in the morning. So if
- 10:56Speaker 2: I wanted to go ahead and get my early morning workout,
- 10:59Speaker 2: it was a 4.30 wake up for me.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Now that I'm semi-retired. Yeah. I like these seven o'clock
- 11:06Speaker 3: wake up calls. No big deal. It means I can
- 11:09Speaker 3: stay up till midnight.
- 11:10Speaker 2: That's also one of the reasons I love being out
- 11:13Speaker 2: on the West coast. You're talking about NFL football starting
- 11:17Speaker 2: at 10 AM.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And then even the late.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Games are over by eight. You've got plenty of time
- 11:23Speaker 2: to do what you ever you need to do.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I you're right. I typically am in bed
- 11:28Speaker 1: by 10 o'clock at the latest most nights, but Thursday
- 11:31Speaker 1: nights are kind of my exception because once I'm done
- 11:34Speaker 1: here at noon, I don't have anything to do until
- 11:36Speaker 1: my football game later tonight. So Fridays are a, almost
- 11:40Speaker 1: every Friday is a heavy nap.
- 11:43Speaker 3: It's Friday. Gotta love it.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I want to circle back to this traditionalist idea of yours.
- 11:50Speaker 2: The fact that major league baseball is even proposing cutting
- 11:53Speaker 2: down the regular season from 162 to 154 games.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Does that bug you much at all? To me, I
- 12:01Speaker 3: think it's a step in the right direction.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That is exactly the words that I used this morning.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It's a step in the right direction. You want to
- 12:09Speaker 1: You want to take away regular season games from me
- 12:13Speaker 1: and add games to the playoffs? Yes, please. I will
- 12:16Speaker 1: trade that any day of the week.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And also, they want to expand the division series from
- 12:24Speaker 2: five to seven games.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Do you think that's a good idea? How do you
- 12:27Speaker 3: feel about that?
- 12:28Speaker 1: I love that.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Great minds are thinking alike.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Now, let's take a step even more forward and let's
- 12:35Speaker 1: make the wild card round five game. Give me, give
- 12:38Speaker 1: me all the.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Look, you're, you're playing 162 games over all these months.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And then you're telling me that you're deciding your fate
- 12:46Speaker 2: on a span of 48 hours.
- 12:48Speaker 3: That to me just doesn't make sense. Yes.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Let's go ahead and contract the, the regular season. So
- 12:55Speaker 2: it's not so monotonous and boring and drawn out and
- 13:00Speaker 2: let's go ahead and have more excitement. I was hanging
- 13:03Speaker 2: on every pitch on these. these playoff games and baseball.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And that's just not the case.
- 13:09Speaker 3: In the regular season. You've got a regular season game.
- 13:12Speaker 3: You're out there. You're doing other things.
- 13:14Speaker 2: You are multitasking during that time, but now it's, your
- 13:18Speaker 2: eyes are glued into that. And then the one other
- 13:22Speaker 2: change and under, I understand all of these, if they're enacted,
- 13:25Speaker 2: they first of all, have to be ratified by the
- 13:27Speaker 2: players union, which I'm not quite sure how they're going
- 13:30Speaker 2: to take all this, but they've agreed to allow the
- 13:35Speaker 2: higher seated playoff team to actually choose their opponent. Can
- 13:42Speaker 2: you imagine being the team that nobody wants to play or,
- 13:45Speaker 2: or worse yet the team that everybody wants to play?
- 13:48Speaker 2: What a slap in the face that would be. I,
- 13:50Speaker 2: you like that drama, don't you?
- 13:52Speaker 3: I can tell from your facial expression.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I do. However, me and the roommate were talking about
- 13:56Speaker 1: it a little bit last night. I don't think they
- 13:59Speaker 1: should get to choose per se, but I do think
- 14:02Speaker 1: they should put like the rays. They shouldn't have had
- 14:04Speaker 1: to play the Yankees. They should have gotten the white
- 14:06Speaker 1: socks who were the six seat. Like the, the, highest
- 14:09Speaker 1: seed remaining should get the lowest seed remaining period. That's
- 14:12Speaker 1: just how it should work.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I understand it's time for our first break. This is
- 14:18Speaker 2: not just the major league baseball.
- 14:21Speaker 3: This is just the cat.
- 14:22Speaker 2: So we're going to come back on the other end
- 14:24Speaker 2: and we're going to kind of zero in on what
- 14:26Speaker 2: my real passion is. And that's university of Kentucky sports
- 14:30Speaker 2: specifically this.
- 14:32Speaker 3: I think there's a football game coming up tomorrow night,
- 14:35Speaker 3: but I've Text in Whiskey Thief text line 502-414-1450. Let
- 14:43Speaker 3: me know your thoughts on anything and everything on this Friday.
- 14:48Speaker 3: We'll see you on the other side of the break.
- 14:50Speaker 3: This is Just the Cats, Dr. John Guang, Justin Kalen.
- 14:53Speaker 3: We'll be right back.
- 15:35Speaker 2: There you go. Now you're getting me back into the mood.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I need to spend more time out there on that
- 15:41Speaker 2: left coast.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I thought that was appropriate.
- 15:45Speaker 2: On, on these breaks, are you and Michael working on
- 15:48Speaker 2: your plank time? Now I heard you talking about how
- 15:51Speaker 2: long you can do those planks.
- 15:53Speaker 1: What's your plank time?
- 15:56Speaker 2: I actually work on those. I know how important core
- 15:59Speaker 2: strength is as you get a little bit older. So
- 16:02Speaker 2: I could probably, if you asked me to hit the
- 16:04Speaker 2: floor right now, I think I could probably do three minutes.
- 16:08Speaker 2: If I work on it, I could probably get it
- 16:10Speaker 2: up a little bit more than that, but it's, it's
- 16:12Speaker 2: hard to do if you're not used to it.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I have a confession. So I did one during the
- 16:20Speaker 1: break yesterday. I can't, I think it was like 12.5 seconds.
- 16:24Speaker 1: not good, not good at all. I woke up this morning.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I am sore, like sore, sore.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Speaker 2 05,0 Yeah. Once you get over, I'd say
- 16:34Speaker 3: probably the age of 30, you start using any muscles
- 16:37Speaker 3: that you're not used to. Then you are going to
- 16:40Speaker 3: be sore.
- 16:41Speaker 2: And then once you hit that 60 year old park,
- 16:44Speaker 2: then your.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Chances of recovery are probably 50, 50 afterwards. So my
- 16:49Speaker 3: recommendation to anybody.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Out there who's working on your plank time and text
- 16:54Speaker 2: me in your plank time. If you can beat me
- 16:56Speaker 2: at three minutes, we may have a challenge going on
- 16:59Speaker 2: and something like that. But go ahead and text in
- 17:02Speaker 2: your plank time and let me know how many minutes
- 17:05Speaker 2: you can actually hold a plank.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I do have one text into the Whiskey Thief text
- 17:09Speaker 1: line from John. He says, in the words of Bugs Bunny,
- 17:13Speaker 1: what's up, Doc? I am glad to hear you're filling
- 17:16Speaker 1: in for Michael. You always do a great job. All right,
- 17:19Speaker 1: tell me if I am crazy. I have our football
- 17:21Speaker 1: cats winning this Saturday by three big ones. Hey, is
- 17:24Speaker 1: having Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kentucky in a $ 10 parlay just
- 17:28Speaker 1: plain madness? Take them straight up, but safer with the points.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Might just win some cold, hard cash. We'll got to
- 17:33Speaker 1: go talk to you later.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Well, I am going to continue my streak of picking
- 17:41Speaker 2: Kentucky to win or lose and being wrong every single week.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I missed on Alabama. I missed on AMM. I missed
- 17:49Speaker 3: on South Carolina.
- 17:50Speaker 2: By the way, I want to do a little bit
- 17:52Speaker 2: of house keeping on, on South Carolina. I haven't had
- 17:55Speaker 2: a chance to talk to much people. I'm still riding
- 17:58Speaker 2: a high on that. I did not expect them to win.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Certainly when they went down 17 to nothing, I think
- 18:04Speaker 2: I was like everybody else.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I thought they were done, but here they come. Comeback cats.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Biggest road comeback in program history. Stein, Will Stein, he's
- 18:16Speaker 2: got some cojones. He goes for two, which, by the way,
- 18:20Speaker 2: I thought they were always going to do.
- 18:21Speaker 3: That's usually the thing to do now, right? Yeah.
- 18:24Speaker 2: If you're on the road, if you're the underdog, you're
- 18:27Speaker 2: going to have to go for two anyway.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Let's go ahead and do it and go for it.
- 18:33Speaker 2: But Kenny Menchie, I think that was a breakout game
- 18:36Speaker 2: for him prior to South Carolina.
- 18:37Speaker 3: We all thought, well, this guy, he had this big reputation,
- 18:41Speaker 3: but is he really that good? He had actually a
- 18:44Speaker 3: couple of really bad halves.
- 18:47Speaker 2: And then he comes through 11 TD passes now versus
- 18:50Speaker 2: one interception on the year. He's gone three straight games
- 18:54Speaker 2: without a pick. We need a big game right from
- 18:58Speaker 2: kenny minchi.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Yeah do you do you feel like that he's going
- 19:02Speaker 3: to deliver over the course of the rest of the
- 19:04Speaker 3: year you have to feel kind of positive about him
- 19:07Speaker 3: don't you.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I definitely feel positive about kenny minchi i don't know
- 19:10Speaker 1: that he's going to put up the flashiest numbers but
- 19:14Speaker 1: that's the one thing he's going to do is you
- 19:17Speaker 1: mentioned the one interception three games without one He's going
- 19:20Speaker 1: to take care of the ball. And that's really when
- 19:22Speaker 1: you've got the playmakers around him and he's able to
- 19:24Speaker 1: get it into the hands of those playmakers while taking
- 19:27Speaker 1: care of the football, that is going to be very
- 19:30Speaker 1: advantageous for Kentucky moving forward. You just got to take
- 19:33Speaker 1: care of the ball.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Will Stein says to take the easy money. We just
- 19:38Speaker 3: hope that LSU is going to have some easy money
- 19:41Speaker 3: for Kentucky to pick on.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I'm not sure that's gonna be the case. Lane Kiffin,
- 19:46Speaker 2: he's gonna come in here locked and loaded.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Get this.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I need you to kind of cover. I like your
- 19:54Speaker 2: weather report coming on. Here we have one of the
- 19:57Speaker 2: biggest games that I can remember in Kentucky football history.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And we've got a hurricane that's kind of blowing in.
- 20:05Speaker 3: How do you even say this? Is it a say
- 20:07Speaker 3: us hurricane? A say us it's causing havoc down there
- 20:11Speaker 3: along the Gulf Coast. Is it going to make it
- 20:14Speaker 3: up in time to ruin this beautiful evening that we
- 20:18Speaker 3: have all planned out?
- 20:19Speaker 1: But the way I see it and from what I've
- 20:21Speaker 1: heard and I've looked at the forecast model and all
- 20:25Speaker 1: that a number of different times, I would anticipate nothing
- 20:30Speaker 1: in the first half. I really think the first half
- 20:32Speaker 1: is going to be a clean game with no weather
- 20:35Speaker 1: involved at all. And then maybe you'll start to get
- 20:38Speaker 1: some sprinkles or drizzle in that second half. But I
- 20:40Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be a full out wash
- 20:43Speaker 1: in the second half.
- 20:45Speaker 2: In other words, just, just bring your poncho, be prepared
- 20:49Speaker 2: for it.
- 20:50Speaker 3: And unless there are 50 mile an hour winds and
- 20:54Speaker 3: creating havoc and it's a danger, I'm encouraging everybody to
- 20:59Speaker 3: just ride it out. Kentucky football needs you to be
- 21:02Speaker 3: there and just live it up. If you're going to
- 21:04Speaker 3: get wet, you're going to get wet. What is the
- 21:06Speaker 3: big deal?
- 21:07Speaker 1: I mean, if you're hammered, what's it matter anyway? Just
- 21:11Speaker 1: make sure your phone and your wallet are safe. And
- 21:14Speaker 1: like a Ziploc baggie, they can't get destroyed. And yeah,
- 21:17Speaker 1: go crazy.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Here's one for you, Justin. Here's one for the listeners also.
- 21:22Speaker 3: What is the worst weather? that you've ever sat through
- 21:26Speaker 3: or endured during a sporting event.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Does anything come to mind right off the bat?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Absolutely. I am very much a warm weather guy. I
- 21:37Speaker 1: like it hot. I like summertime weather.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I do also do not like the.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Cold at all. I was at an Indiana-Purdue game one
- 21:45Speaker 1: year that must have been 14 degrees. I mean, I
- 21:50Speaker 1: could go back and find the pictures, but I'm in
- 21:52Speaker 1: this huge, like, marshmallow jacket, and I've got a toboggan
- 21:57Speaker 1: on my head, and in the pictures I just look
- 21:59Speaker 1: absolutely miserable, and it takes me back to that day
- 22:02Speaker 1: because I was miserable.
- 22:03Speaker 3: During that game.
- 22:05Speaker 2: I've been spoiled over the course of this media gig,
- 22:08Speaker 2: always sitting in an air-conditioned press box during warm weather
- 22:13Speaker 2: and having portable.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Heaters by my feet during cold weather.
- 22:17Speaker 2: But I can dial myself back to the days when
- 22:21Speaker 2: I was a diehard Kentucky football fan. And I would agree,
- 22:25Speaker 2: there were some late November games where sitting on.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Those cold bleachers, you were literally and figuratively... freezing your
- 22:34Speaker 3: butt off. It was miserable.
- 22:37Speaker 2: And to add insult to injury, Kentucky was usually getting
- 22:40Speaker 2: obliterated by either Florida or Tennessee during those games.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I'm not one to leave early. If I'm there, I'm
- 22:48Speaker 3: usually going to end up sticking it out. Or at
- 22:50Speaker 3: least I used to be that way. I may be
- 22:53Speaker 3: a little bit more prone to bailing out early nowadays
- 22:57Speaker 3: in my old age. Well, Like I said, you can
- 23:03Speaker 3: put your feet up. They've got the buffet just down
- 23:07Speaker 3: the hallway.
- 23:08Speaker 2: You got bathrooms at your access. It couldn't be any better.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I wasn't afraid that how.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Is the buffet? Steven peak kind of put it on
- 23:16Speaker 1: blast yesterday.
- 23:18Speaker 2: You're talking about at Kentucky football games.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I would rate it on a scale of, I always
- 23:26Speaker 2: hesitate to criticize because it is free and we all
- 23:30Speaker 2: like free.
- 23:30Speaker 3: There's value in free, right?
- 23:33Speaker 2: But in regards to comparing it to some of the
- 23:37Speaker 2: other venues that I've visited, specifically even with Louisville, South
- 23:42Speaker 2: Carolina comes to mind. It's probably a two on a scale.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Of one to 10. Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it's food, it's free, but there are a lot
- 23:56Speaker 2: of people who just go ahead and pass on it completely.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I think a lot of times at these other places,
- 24:03Speaker 2: they'll have a lot of snacks available too, which I
- 24:06Speaker 2: think actually increases the perceived value of the food is there.
- 24:11Speaker 2: They can serve you hot dogs, but if they bring
- 24:14Speaker 2: out the hot dogs at the beginning of the third quarter,
- 24:17Speaker 2: everybody's going goo-goo-ga-ga about it. It's just like they have
- 24:22Speaker 2: kind of lavished you with all this fantastic lobster and
- 24:27Speaker 2: steak and.
- 24:30Speaker 3: It's all about the perception and the timing.
- 24:33Speaker 2: With Kentucky, they've got the standard rubber chicken. They'll have
- 24:38Speaker 2: maybe a vegetable siding every now and then.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Cookies for dessert, but usually those run out. Once again, please,
- 24:45Speaker 3: I'm not complaining, but I am complaining if you know.
- 24:48Speaker 1: What I mean. You're just saying there's room for growth.
- 24:51Speaker 3: There is.
- 24:51Speaker 2: There is a lot of room for growth, both in
- 24:54Speaker 2: the buffet and for my stomach lining also.
- 24:57Speaker 1: All right. I just looked at a recent projection for
- 25:01Speaker 1: this storm coming in. I'm going to stick with what
- 25:03Speaker 1: I've said. But I do think and I didn't I
- 25:07Speaker 1: don't know why I didn't think about this ahead of time.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But the wind could could obviously play a factor in
- 25:13Speaker 1: this game.
- 25:14Speaker 3: What are they predicting now? 25 miles an hour.
- 25:17Speaker 2: I know they had a lot of about a half
- 25:19Speaker 2: inch of rain. I thought I saw someplace 15 to
- 25:22Speaker 2: 25 mile an hour winds.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's right about right.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 1: But I mean, which that's not crazy strong. Obviously, when
- 25:28Speaker 1: a hurricane is going through the entire United States, it's
- 25:32Speaker 1: going to weaken pretty much by that point. So maybe
- 25:34Speaker 1: it maybe it won't be the worst type of winds
- 25:36Speaker 1: that you have to deal with. But I think that
- 25:38Speaker 1: could play a factor more so than the rain.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I do think that bad weather generally speaking will usually
- 25:45Speaker 2: favors the team. That's the underdog. And in this particular
- 25:48Speaker 2: case with Kentucky, what is it? I saw the line
- 25:51Speaker 2: move from 10 to about eight and a half.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Now, is that right? Kentucky is still a definite underdog.
- 25:57Speaker 2: You throw in the fact that they've got all these injuries.
- 26:00Speaker 2: They don't have any linebackers. They're going to have to
- 26:02Speaker 2: call on you or me to come in and step in.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I think the last.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Injury report I saw the report was, released on Wednesday.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I think it was updated last night.
- 26:13Speaker 2: You still have linebackers, Antoine Smith, Tavian Wallace, Alex Safari,
- 26:17Speaker 2: of course, are out defensive backs, Jaden Smith, Grant Grayton,
- 26:21Speaker 2: offensive lineman.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Ava Selm.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Now the good news is that offensively wide receiver, DJ
- 26:26Speaker 2: Miller and running back, Jason Patterson are no longer on
- 26:31Speaker 2: the report.
- 26:31Speaker 3: You've also got starting nickel. Aaron Gates are all back, but.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Again, Defensive tackle Kalen Edwards was downgraded from questionable to doubtful.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Total six Kentucky players remain listed as out. But LSU
- 26:45Speaker 2: also has people appearing, key players appearing on their injury
- 26:49Speaker 2: report too. of which Sam Levitt, he's not on the
- 26:54Speaker 2: injury report now, but he says he's going to be
- 26:57Speaker 2: 100% by Saturday. He did have a so-called hamstring injury,
- 27:01Speaker 2: but he called it a blessing in a way because
- 27:05Speaker 2: it forced him to become more of a pocket passer.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I'm not sure I buy that Lane Kiffin in his
- 27:12Speaker 2: weekly media press conference talked about how important it was
- 27:16Speaker 2: to provide protection for Levitt. Sometimes when he gets pressured,
- 27:20Speaker 2: the guy gets happy feet. I think if Kentucky can
- 27:23Speaker 2: go ahead and put that pressure on him, that will
- 27:25Speaker 2: be a real, real key to the game. They haven't
- 27:28Speaker 2: had much success against running quarterbacks, not only this year,
- 27:32Speaker 2: but in history, it seems.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Like that these quarterbacks always run wild. on Kentucky.
- 27:37Speaker 2: How important is it for the cats to make sure
- 27:40Speaker 2: they provide containment on Sam Levitt?
- 27:45Speaker 1: I mean, when you think back to the South Carolina game, you, you,
- 27:49Speaker 1: there was a number of times where Lenore sellers looked
- 27:52Speaker 1: like Lenore sellers of two years ago using his feet
- 27:55Speaker 1: and that, that made life difficult for the Kentucky defense.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Cause there were so many times where you weren't able
- 28:01Speaker 1: to get off the field on third down. And I
- 28:03Speaker 1: was telling Michael yesterday that That's going to be imperative
- 28:06Speaker 1: in this game tomorrow. You have got to find a
- 28:08Speaker 1: way to get off the field on third down. And
- 28:11Speaker 1: then on the inverse of that, offensively, if you can
- 28:14Speaker 1: convert third downs and keep that LSU defense out there
- 28:17Speaker 1: as long as possible, wear them down, that too gives
- 28:21Speaker 1: Kentucky an advantage in this game tomorrow.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Will Stein admitted that third down was critical. Kentucky ranks
- 28:28Speaker 2: near the bottom in terms of efficiency. Of course, that
- 28:32Speaker 2: one for 14 against Alabama will certainly bring your numbers
- 28:35Speaker 2: down quite a bit. But yes, they need to make
- 28:38Speaker 2: a drastic improvement, a drastic transformation in that. I heard
- 28:43Speaker 2: you talking about the power K coming back. You don't
- 28:46Speaker 2: like that. thing on the field right now right the
- 28:49Speaker 2: circle did i hear you okay you like the power
- 28:52Speaker 2: k yeah i do like the circle round yeah.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And i and the reasoning makes sense i mean if
- 28:57Speaker 1: they have to cover up the permanent logo that it
- 29:00Speaker 1: makes sense that they would have to throw a circle
- 29:02Speaker 1: on it i just i think it looks.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Dumb I'm pleasantly surprised at how many people do enjoy
- 29:07Speaker 2: the actual logo itself of the Power K, because to me,
- 29:11Speaker 2: it's very simple, but I think it's the symbolism that
- 29:16Speaker 2: really adds to how much people are really calling for it.
- 29:20Speaker 2: And what's really surprising is a lot of the younger
- 29:23Speaker 2: people who never even remembered Kentucky wearing the Power K
- 29:27Speaker 2: are also in favor of it. It was from 1975
- 29:30Speaker 2: to 91. Once it was revealed, the merchandise sold out
- 29:36Speaker 2: in hours. So evidently people are clamoring for something like that.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Will Stein referred to it as part of his dad's era.
- 29:44Speaker 2: His dad, Matt, played under Jerry Claiborne in the 80s.
- 29:48Speaker 3: To me....
- 29:50Speaker 2: I think the power really is in thinking back to
- 29:53Speaker 2: how the diehard Kentucky football fan, the long suffering Kentucky
- 29:57Speaker 2: football fan suffered through all those bad years and continue
- 30:02Speaker 2: to come back. There's power in that there's value in that,
- 30:07Speaker 2: but does a uniform really change a game's energy at all?
- 30:10Speaker 3: Do you, do you think that really matters in the
- 30:12Speaker 3: long run?
- 30:13Speaker 1: It made to the players it oddly enough that being
- 30:17Speaker 1: my answer i mean i guess the fans get excited
- 30:20Speaker 1: about certain uniform combinations as well but obviously as a
- 30:24Speaker 1: player if you wear a certain jersey maybe it feels
- 30:27Speaker 1: it feels a little bit different to you for whatever
- 30:29Speaker 1: reason but in terms of the power k for me
- 30:32Speaker 1: it's just it's nostalgic even if you didn't grow up
- 30:35Speaker 1: with it you've always kind of seen that logo and
- 30:38Speaker 1: it is simple but it's What do they always say?
- 30:41Speaker 1: The KISS method. Keep it simple, stupid. A lot of times,
- 30:45Speaker 1: that is the most effective type of marketing. So I
- 30:47Speaker 1: like the Power K. I just don't like the white
- 30:50Speaker 1: circle around it. That's my only problem.
- 30:53Speaker 3: The doctor is in the house.
- 30:55Speaker 2: We will continue to dissect this upcoming game, Kentucky versus LSU.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I've got a whole list of quick-fire topics in regard
- 31:04Speaker 2: to the game I'm going to be throwing at you
- 31:06Speaker 2: when we come back. Let's go ahead and take our
- 31:09Speaker 2: second break.
- 31:09Speaker 3: This is Dr. John Huang and Jessica Halen on Just
- 31:13Speaker 3: the Cats.
- 31:15Speaker 4: That sunshine state where the bomb M10 beat. The state
- 31:18Speaker 4: where you never find a dance floor empty. And Pimp
- 31:21Speaker 4: Speed on a mission for them greens. Leave me money
- 31:24Speaker 4: making machines, serving fiends. I've been in the game for
- 31:27Speaker 4: 10 years making rap tunes. Ever since Honey's was wearing Sassoon.
- 31:34Speaker 3: That was 95. Snoop. Snoop. Welcome back to Just the Cats. Dr.
- 31:56Speaker 2: John Huang subbing in for Michael Bennett. Michael always talks
- 32:01Speaker 2: about squirreling, which my understanding is you go from topic
- 32:05Speaker 2: to topic. I'm going to try to avoid doing as
- 32:07Speaker 2: much squirreling as Michael does, but I can understand how
- 32:11Speaker 2: that can easily, easily take over the show. But For
- 32:15Speaker 2: the time being, Justin, let's stick to Kentucky football. There
- 32:20Speaker 2: is a lot of purple and gold here in Lexington.
- 32:24Speaker 2: I understand that they are starting to flood the streets.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Of course, Kingland is in session right now. So I
- 32:31Speaker 2: am thinking there's going to be a huge influx of
- 32:34Speaker 2: of Tiger fans.
- 32:36Speaker 3: These fans, they like to party. They have the reputation.
- 32:40Speaker 2: When they have a usual Saturday night game, they are
- 32:44Speaker 2: usually hammered by Tuesday. So I'm expecting a loud, rowdy
- 32:49Speaker 2: crowd of Tiger contingent at commonwealth stadium on saturday what
- 32:55Speaker 2: say ye about that is that going to be a
- 32:57Speaker 2: big big.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Factor normally i would say well how do you know
- 33:00Speaker 1: about another fan base and how much they drink and
- 33:03Speaker 1: all that but we actually have a recent example remember
- 33:07Speaker 1: the college world series rocco's that bar that does the.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I do yes i do i remember.
- 33:12Speaker 1: That like 43 000 and the next closest was like
- 33:15Speaker 1: 18 000 so i'll rest my case there's there's your
- 33:19Speaker 1: proof in the pudding right there that yeah they're gonna
- 33:21Speaker 1: be Nice and liquored up. I'm happy that they're going
- 33:23Speaker 1: to have a great weekend with Keeneland and then go
- 33:26Speaker 1: into the game. That's awesome. But hopefully they're walking out
- 33:29Speaker 1: of Kroger Field with a big L.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I do hope that also, and I do hope Kentucky
- 33:35Speaker 2: fans extend the proper amount of hospitality. I don't want
- 33:39Speaker 2: them to feel too comfortable, but on the other hand,
- 33:43Speaker 2: you don't want to let things get out of hand.
- 33:45Speaker 3: And I can easily see how that can happen.
- 33:48Speaker 2: When I was at Dodgers Braves, I had a Braves
- 33:50Speaker 2: fan sitting right next to me who, let me just say,
- 33:55Speaker 2: to put it kindly, she was extremely, extremely passionate about
- 33:58Speaker 2: and supportive of her team. But at some point, you
- 34:02Speaker 2: do have to have a little bit of self-awareness, do
- 34:05Speaker 2: you not? if you're going into a rival stadium, you're
- 34:08Speaker 2: dressed in your visiting team colors, and you've got 40
- 34:12Speaker 2: other people giving you the stink eye, don't you think
- 34:15Speaker 2: that's a signal.
- 34:16Speaker 3: To kind of turn it down a little bit? Or
- 34:19Speaker 3: are you the kind of person that would just do
- 34:20Speaker 3: the opposite and ratchet it up two or three notches?
- 34:24Speaker 1: I am definitely the opposite. I would ratchet it up
- 34:26Speaker 1: two or three notches because look at the end of
- 34:29Speaker 1: the day, we're all fans. And if you're going to
- 34:31Speaker 1: a game, especially a game in this day and age
- 34:34Speaker 1: where it's super expensive to get to said game, you
- 34:37Speaker 1: should be able to fan however you want. And if
- 34:39Speaker 1: that's how she fanned, let her be. Let her be.
- 34:44Speaker 3: In a sense, I do agree with that.
- 34:48Speaker 2: It's just, it doesn't make it any easier when you
- 34:51Speaker 2: have to continuously hear those rants and the Tomahawk chops
- 34:56Speaker 2: and all this going on when the team that you're
- 35:00Speaker 2: kind of secretly rooting for is kind of going down
- 35:03Speaker 2: the tubes.
- 35:03Speaker 3: But you're right. As long as you're not doing anything
- 35:08Speaker 3: out of, if they're not doing anything wrong, if they're
- 35:11Speaker 3: not kind of encroaching your space or physically touching your
- 35:16Speaker 3: slapping your things like that, they really should be able
- 35:19Speaker 3: to do whatever they want.
- 35:20Speaker 1: You're not one of those guys that wants people to
- 35:22Speaker 1: sit at games too. Are you?
- 35:25Speaker 3: I will do a no comment on that. Let me,
- 35:29Speaker 3: let me put it this way, you know, come back
- 35:31Speaker 3: at age 67 and let me know what you feel
- 35:34Speaker 3: at that particular time.
- 35:35Speaker 1: If I make it there, I'll be more than happy.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Let me just put on my blue haired wig and
- 35:40Speaker 3: give me a front row seat.
- 35:42Speaker 2: And I'll be perfectly happy from that point on. But no,
- 35:46Speaker 2: I won't, I won't intentionally tell anybody to ever sit
- 35:50Speaker 2: down but I'd be lying if I said sometimes I
- 35:53Speaker 2: didn't get a little bit irritated when everybody else in
- 35:57Speaker 2: the section is sitting down but there are two or
- 35:59Speaker 2: three people who always happen to be directly in my
- 36:03Speaker 2: line of sight remain standing for the entire game that's
- 36:06Speaker 2: the frustrating part oh.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Good stuff do have a few texts into the whiskey
- 36:11Speaker 1: thief text line uh first one says I think john
- 36:14Speaker 1: needs to call a hotline if he's making those bets
- 36:19Speaker 1: next one is biggest comeback since kim kardashian still the
- 36:23Speaker 1: funniest outtake from parks and rec and then next text
- 36:26Speaker 1: says if you complain about free food then maybe you
- 36:28Speaker 1: need to check yourself sorry there's no filet mignon.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not complaining. I'm not complaining.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I'm just saying that in all my travels, especially to
- 36:38Speaker 2: NFL stadiums where they really roll out the red carpet
- 36:42Speaker 2: for media people, it seems like they want one-upsmanship. It's
- 36:46Speaker 2: almost like each stadium is trying to outdo the others.
- 36:50Speaker 2: And there are always surprises. I remember in Cleveland, they
- 36:53Speaker 2: had this huge ice cream container that you just reach
- 36:56Speaker 2: in there.
- 36:56Speaker 3: I must have eaten.
- 36:58Speaker 2: 15 ice cream bars during that time. Dallas always stands out. Great,
- 37:04Speaker 2: great setup. They do have the.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Filet mignon out there for you. The lobster mac and cheese.
- 37:09Speaker 3: It's fantastic.
- 37:10Speaker 2: I do miss those days covering the Bengals. Don't worry,
- 37:14Speaker 2: I'm not going there just yet, but we can talk
- 37:16Speaker 2: some NFL later on down the line.
- 37:18Speaker 3: I want to.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Continue with this Kentucky rant. Revenge game. Is this a
- 37:22Speaker 2: revenge game for Joe Sloan? Fired as LSU's offensive coordinator.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Now he's calling Kentucky's plays against his old program. You
- 37:31Speaker 2: also have Nick Anderson, LSU transfer. He had 80 yards
- 37:35Speaker 2: and a TD, a go-ahead TD last week. Who has
- 37:39Speaker 2: the biggest chip on their shoulder? Or do they even
- 37:41Speaker 2: have a chip on their shoulder? I know when you
- 37:43Speaker 2: ask Will Stein about something like that, Now you can't
- 37:46Speaker 2: ask the coordinators directly because they don't give us access
- 37:49Speaker 2: to them during the course of the year. It's always
- 37:51Speaker 2: standard coach speak. No big deal. Joe's a great guy.
- 37:55Speaker 2: He doesn't harbor any bad feelings. It's gotta be human nature.
- 37:59Speaker 2: If you get fired from a particular institution, you want
- 38:02Speaker 2: to come back and beat the crap out of them
- 38:04Speaker 2: next time.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Don't you?
- 38:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, no doubt about it. But if we're talking
- 38:07Speaker 1: about chips on the shoulder, I, I, My answer is
- 38:11Speaker 1: going to be the same all year. I don't think
- 38:13Speaker 1: anybody has a bigger chip on their shoulder than one
- 38:15Speaker 1: William Stein. I really don't.
- 38:18Speaker 3: And that that's simply because of the way he's built, right?
- 38:21Speaker 3: The way he's wired. Exactly. Yeah. And the little man syndrome,
- 38:25Speaker 3: we kind of understand that. Don't, don't we?
- 38:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Yeah. I, it always does amaze me whenever you go
- 38:33Speaker 3: to his press conferences and we're used to these big
- 38:35Speaker 3: Paul wide football coaches coming out, speaking in front of
- 38:40Speaker 3: the media. And then here you have little old shrimpy.
- 38:43Speaker 3: We'll Stein. Don't, don't quote me on that. Let's go
- 38:46Speaker 3: ahead and.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Revert, erase that from the, from the tape. But you've
- 38:50Speaker 2: got Will Stein. Who's who's no bigger than I am
- 38:53Speaker 2: out there. puffing his chest out and providing all these
- 38:57Speaker 2: wonderful quotes that we can use as part of our
- 38:59Speaker 2: media fodder.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Yeah. So did Joe Sloan, was he with LSU last year?
- 39:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I believe so. That's where, yeah, he came directly
- 39:09Speaker 3: from them. Is that right? Correct me if I'm wrong
- 39:12Speaker 3: on that, but I thought that was correct.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Okay. Well, anyway, I'm sure somebody will set us straight
- 39:18Speaker 3: on that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I'm not well-versed in Joe Sloan.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin, everybody's well-versed in Lane Kiffin. You either love
- 39:26Speaker 2: him or hate him. I don't mind him. I think
- 39:28Speaker 2: he's good for the game.
- 39:29Speaker 3: I think.
- 39:30Speaker 2: anybody who is able to provide wonderful quotes above and
- 39:34Speaker 2: beyond the usual coach speak in these media sessions is
- 39:37Speaker 2: somebody that I gravitate toward. I like his lifestyle, his
- 39:41Speaker 2: hot yoga, not so much, you know, what he does,
- 39:45Speaker 2: extracurricular activity on the side, if that truly is the case.
- 39:49Speaker 2: But he does have some road problems. Lane Kiffin's only
- 39:53Speaker 2: road trip this year, a final minute loss back to
- 39:56Speaker 2: Ole Miss. Can Kentucky make it to straight? I'll go
- 40:00Speaker 2: on record and saying, no, they can't. I do think
- 40:03Speaker 2: that eight and a half points is pretty generous. I'd
- 40:06Speaker 2: probably take the points on that. But I think straight up,
- 40:09Speaker 2: I think it's going to be too hard of a
- 40:11Speaker 2: road to hoe, especially with Kentucky and their limited defensive positions,
- 40:17Speaker 2: the players that linebacker being out. I think it's going
- 40:21Speaker 2: to be a long shot. You think there's a fighting chance?
- 40:24Speaker 1: That should make Kentucky fan feel really good then with
- 40:26Speaker 1: as much as you've been wrong this year.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Cause I'm always wrong.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I guarantee going into that Texas A & M game,
- 40:33Speaker 1: you were saying this exact same thing.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Everybody was, though, right? You can't just put that on me.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I don't think anybody picked a win on that. If
- 40:40Speaker 2: you looked at Kentucky's schedule before the year and you
- 40:44Speaker 2: picked out games that Kentucky was sure to lose, then
- 40:47Speaker 2: Texas A & M, I think, was on there as
- 40:49Speaker 2: number one. And LSU may be number two on that.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, maybe so. But, I mean, when you
- 40:55Speaker 1: can go down to Kyle Field and get a win
- 40:57Speaker 1: like that, yeah, Texas A & M hasn't turned out
- 41:00Speaker 1: to be all that great, but they were number nine
- 41:02Speaker 1: in the country at that point. You can never take
- 41:04Speaker 1: that away. from Kentucky. And like you said, nobody expected
- 41:07Speaker 1: them to go down and get that win. And I'm
- 41:09Speaker 1: feeling pretty similar with this game tomorrow. Nobody, I mean,
- 41:13Speaker 1: I have heard a few predictions of people picking Kentucky
- 41:16Speaker 1: for the upset, but that honestly feels like just a
- 41:19Speaker 1: cute pick and not something that they actually believe. But sure,
- 41:22Speaker 1: why not? I mean, they've shown that they can play
- 41:25Speaker 1: with basically anybody, including Alabama, for a half. So I
- 41:30Speaker 1: would not be shocked at all if we're in here
- 41:32Speaker 1: on Monday talking about a Kentucky win.
- 41:35Speaker 3: We can always dream, can't we?
- 41:38Speaker 2: And I think this is one of the things that
- 41:39Speaker 2: kind of gets me, and I'm preaching to myself right here,
- 41:42Speaker 2: because as a fan slash media member, more so the
- 41:46Speaker 2: fan part, you end up really wanting to look ahead, right?
- 41:51Speaker 2: And how many people have you said, well, have you
- 41:54Speaker 2: heard say if Kentucky can just beat LSU, then they
- 41:58Speaker 2: got a couple of very winnable games coming up right
- 42:00Speaker 2: after that.
- 42:01Speaker 3: They can be seven and one.
- 42:03Speaker 2: And I'm saying, let's just go ahead and pump the brakes.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Let's listen to Will Stein. And he says to his
- 42:10Speaker 2: team all the time, play one play at a time,
- 42:14Speaker 2: one game at a time. I think as fans, we
- 42:17Speaker 2: need to just kind of enjoy this ride right now.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Let's not put too much at stake in terms of that.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Let's enjoy this LSU.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Saturday night, one of the biggest games in Commonwealth Stadium history.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Let's enjoy it for what it is. Let's ride this
- 42:31Speaker 2: thing out. Win or lose, let's have a good time
- 42:34Speaker 2: on Saturday night.
- 42:36Speaker 1: I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said, but Will
- 42:40Speaker 1: Stein kind of created this on his own, right? I mean,
- 42:43Speaker 1: with coming out and starting this year 4-1, That's, to me,
- 42:47Speaker 1: that's the fun part about sports.
- 42:49Speaker 3: A victim of his own success.
- 42:50Speaker 1: You are literally, as a sports fan, able to now dream.
- 42:54Speaker 1: And did any of us think coming into this season
- 42:57Speaker 1: that you'd be in a spot where you'd be able
- 42:59Speaker 1: to dream and think about what the best-case scenario could
- 43:03Speaker 1: be for this team? No, nobody thought that. So Will Stein,
- 43:06Speaker 1: he has made that happen himself just by the way
- 43:09Speaker 1: his team has played these first five games.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Seems like that there's just so much more emphasis and
- 43:15Speaker 2: focus on Kentucky football. And people tell me all the time, well,
- 43:20Speaker 2: it seems like people don't worry about Kentucky basketball anymore.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Do you realize that the first exhibition game is just.
- 43:27Speaker 3: A week away? And my contention is, no, Kentucky fans,
- 43:31Speaker 3: they've always been interested with Kentucky football.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Even when they stuck, they still had the following. This
- 43:38Speaker 2: is just the showing of what can happen when they
- 43:40Speaker 2: have the potential of being really good. So, yes, I
- 43:44Speaker 2: do understand the excitement. I do understand the projecting ahead.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I'm just saying, let's just hold our horses. Let's don't
- 43:52Speaker 2: lose sight of this precious present. As Rick Patino used
- 43:56Speaker 2: to say, let's really go ahead and enjoy it.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Hey, what do you think about Kenny Menchie and the fake.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Bulletin board material that, that got out all this stuff
- 44:04Speaker 2: about AI?
- 44:05Speaker 3: Is it true? Is it not true? Did you fall
- 44:08Speaker 3: for that? Did you get gotten?
- 44:10Speaker 1: I did not know. I mean, luckily I didn't see
- 44:13Speaker 1: it until I had heard, I guess they were talking
- 44:16Speaker 1: about it on Kentucky roll call and I heard them
- 44:18Speaker 1: talking about it. So no, I, I, I did not
- 44:20Speaker 1: get got, but I don't, I don't even know if
- 44:22Speaker 1: I would have bought it anyways, but, Lane Kiffin's a dweeb.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I cannot stand Lane Kiffin. So I told Michael this yesterday.
- 44:31Speaker 1: There is no bigger Kentucky football fan than me tomorrow.
- 44:34Speaker 1: But just because I want that loser to go back
- 44:37Speaker 1: to Baton Rouge with an L.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I blame a lot of this on on A.I. itself
- 44:44Speaker 2: because it's so easy now to come up with this stuff.
- 44:48Speaker 2: AI is essentially, I'll say it as it is, it's
- 44:51Speaker 2: a pox on news.
- 44:53Speaker 3: And sports coverage.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Word of warning, if you start delving into that, if
- 44:59Speaker 2: you post anything that's AI related, I think you've already
- 45:02Speaker 2: decreased your credibility somewhat. Am I just completely off the
- 45:07Speaker 2: board in terms of thinking that way? Even if you
- 45:11Speaker 2: retweet something, people are going to look at it from
- 45:13Speaker 2: then on and say, okay, he retweeted.
- 45:17Speaker 3: AI once, is he going to end up doing it
- 45:20Speaker 3: one more time?
- 45:21Speaker 1: Great question. I hate AI too, almost as much as
- 45:24Speaker 1: Lane Kip.
- 45:25Speaker 3: We're coming up on this hard break. First hour has
- 45:28Speaker 3: flown by.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Hopefully the second hour will be just as entertaining.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Dr. John Huang, Just the Cats.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Welcome to the second hour of Just the Cats, Friday,
- 46:01Speaker 2: October the 9th, 2026.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Dr.
- 46:04Speaker 2: John Huang sitting in for the traveling in.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Transit Michael Bennett. He should be back on Monday, but...
- 46:12Speaker 3: We're having some very spirited conversation about this huge Kentucky.
- 46:16Speaker 2: LSU football game coming on. Justin, we were talking in
- 46:20Speaker 2: the first hour about how much extra interest there is
- 46:24Speaker 2: now in Kentucky football. Now that Will Stein is in
- 46:28Speaker 2: control and they are supposedly pretty good and have the
- 46:31Speaker 2: potential of continuing to be pretty good.
- 46:34Speaker 3: In regard to television coverage, I.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Didn't know if you saw the report or not, but
- 46:40Speaker 2: evidently Kentucky Wildcats football is averaging 5.14 million television viewers
- 46:48Speaker 2: per game.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Where do you think that ranks in terms of teams nationally?
- 46:54Speaker 1: I mean, that sounds really good.
- 46:56Speaker 3: It does, doesn't it?
- 46:59Speaker 1: I would say number seven.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Oh man. Did you cheat?
- 47:04Speaker 1: Did you see that?
- 47:06Speaker 3: They are ranking number seven nationally through five weeks. Right on, man.
- 47:11Speaker 2: That's a guy who knows his television rankings.
- 47:14Speaker 3: That's ahead of Florida. It's ahead of Tennessee and it's
- 47:18Speaker 3: ahead of Alabama. Seven of the 10 most watched programs
- 47:23Speaker 3: are sec teams.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Who's number one.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know who's number one on that. We'll
- 47:29Speaker 3: have to look that one up, but I would probably
- 47:32Speaker 3: think that it's Ohio state. Wouldn't you?
- 47:35Speaker 1: I would guess Texas.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I'll see if I can find it.
- 47:42Speaker 2: But Kentucky has traditionally been identified with basketball, but these
- 47:48Speaker 2: numbers really suggest that the football program is attracting all
- 47:53Speaker 2: this national attention. Now, the figures don't establish how much
- 47:57Speaker 2: of the viewership comes directly from Kentucky. versus opposing audiences,
- 48:02Speaker 2: I assume that most of it does come from Kentucky.
- 48:06Speaker 2: So my question to you and to those listeners out
- 48:10Speaker 2: there is, if Kentucky football is one of the most
- 48:13Speaker 2: 10-watch programs in America, should we finally stop treating it
- 48:18Speaker 2: like a basketball school's side project?
- 48:22Speaker 3: I don't want to stir the pot.
- 48:23Speaker 2: This is not a basketball versus football debate, but why
- 48:28Speaker 2: can't a rising tide float all boats in this particular case?
- 48:32Speaker 1: You all are, you're in a weird spot, kind of like,
- 48:37Speaker 1: and coming from a Hoosier, I feel like I'm, I'm,
- 48:41Speaker 1: I can say this. Indiana football was never a thing.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Indiana was always a basketball school. Well, now you can
- 48:50Speaker 1: make the argument that it is more so a football
- 48:52Speaker 1: school than it is a basketball school. If Will Stein
- 48:57Speaker 1: continues to win and the Kentucky basketball program, like it's
- 49:01Speaker 1: done the last half decade, continues to struggle, Kentucky may
- 49:06Speaker 1: very well get to that spot as well.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Well, let me kind of put you on the spot then.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Do you think that by Kentucky football doing well that
- 49:15Speaker 2: it really hurts Mark Pope and his basketball program?
- 49:19Speaker 1: Quite the opposite, actually. I think it helps because it's
- 49:24Speaker 1: taking pressure off of Mark Pope. Like, look at our
- 49:28Speaker 1: neighbors right down the road here at Louisville. They're two
- 49:31Speaker 1: and three in football. That's not what the season they
- 49:34Speaker 1: thought they were going to have is. So now the
- 49:36Speaker 1: inverse of that, Pat Kelsey has way more pressure than
- 49:40Speaker 1: he had coming into the season if Louisville football is
- 49:43Speaker 1: having the type of year that they should have had.
- 49:45Speaker 1: So I do think the football team, it can relieve,
- 49:49Speaker 1: it can help the pressure, or it can hurt in
- 49:52Speaker 1: that regard.
- 49:53Speaker 3: What IU did was a strict outlier, though.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely.
- 49:58Speaker 2: They flipped the script in two years. And you just
- 50:02Speaker 2: don't do that. You don't wipe out 50 years of
- 50:06Speaker 2: Kentucky basketball tradition, the history of the program with the
- 50:10Speaker 2: greatest tradition in the history of college basketball.
- 50:13Speaker 3: You can't wipe that out.
- 50:15Speaker 2: I think Kentucky, for the time being, barring a couple
- 50:18Speaker 2: of national championships in football, which ain't going to happen.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I never thought it would either, my friend.
- 50:26Speaker 2: They're always going to be a basketball school. Big Blue Madness,
- 50:31Speaker 2: I know a lot of people say it's kind of
- 50:33Speaker 2: served its time and it's boring.
- 50:36Speaker 3: And to me, it is.
- 50:38Speaker 2: I haven't really enjoyed Big Blue Madness for probably the
- 50:40Speaker 2: past decade.
- 50:42Speaker 3: But there's still a role for that.
- 50:45Speaker 2: For people who don't get hooked in, who aren't able
- 50:49Speaker 2: to get season tickets or aren't able to, for whatever reason...
- 50:52Speaker 2: come to Rupp Arena and watch regular season games. Big
- 50:55Speaker 2: Blue Madness, it's a big event. It's good for the kids.
- 50:58Speaker 2: It's great to introduce your kids to the program and
- 51:02Speaker 2: what it's all about. Evidently, it still sells out. I
- 51:06Speaker 2: know they give the tickets away for free, but it's
- 51:08Speaker 2: sold out in 22 minutes. Hope continues to joke about 120,000
- 51:13Speaker 2: seat arena. There are evidently a bunch more people in
- 51:17Speaker 2: line to get tickets. But it probably has run its
- 51:21Speaker 2: course in terms of excitement for the diehard fan. But
- 51:26Speaker 2: I think it's a good indicator that Kentucky basketball.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Still rules the roost.
- 51:31Speaker 2: I know this is just anecdotal, but if I go
- 51:34Speaker 2: ahead and put out a random post about Kentucky basketball,
- 51:38Speaker 2: it still gets more clicks, more readers than anything that
- 51:42Speaker 2: I would put on Facebook.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Kentucky football at this time. Yeah.
- 51:46Speaker 1: I believe that wholeheartedly because right now it is still
- 51:49Speaker 1: in my mind, it is still very much a basketball school,
- 51:51Speaker 1: but just saying, watch that pendulum. It might, might start
- 51:55Speaker 1: swinging here before long.
- 51:57Speaker 2: We've got three exhibition games coming up that nobody's even
- 52:01Speaker 2: thought about. Next Friday, October 16th, Little Rock, Travis Ford
- 52:06Speaker 2: is going to bring his Little Rock team in. October 23rd,
- 52:10Speaker 2: it's going to be a big game versus Texas Tech.
- 52:13Speaker 3: They should be pretty good.
- 52:14Speaker 2: And then October 28th, the usual ho-hum University of Central
- 52:19Speaker 2: Florida that nobody knows anything about or nobody ever cares about.
- 52:23Speaker 2: I'm thinking that these games probably won't mean.
- 52:27Speaker 3: A heck of a whole lot. And they shouldn't think about,
- 52:30Speaker 3: just think about what Purdue did last, last year.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Are you excited at all about any preseason basketball games?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Not really. I don't, I don't really get into the
- 52:42Speaker 1: exhibition games. I mean, they're, they're neat to check out
- 52:44Speaker 1: just to see if you can try to figure anything
- 52:47Speaker 1: out about certain teams, but no, I like Indiana plays
- 52:51Speaker 1: Butler on Sunday. I may try to find a stream
- 52:54Speaker 1: for it, but odds are, I probably won't because I
- 52:56Speaker 1: just don't care. It doesn't mean anything.
- 52:59Speaker 2: And did it used to mean things though? I'm asking you,
- 53:03Speaker 2: has your mindset changed? Because it used to be with
- 53:06Speaker 2: any Kentucky basketball game, whether it was a blue white
- 53:09Speaker 2: scrimmage or whether it was big blue madness, or whether
- 53:12Speaker 2: it was these meaningless exhibition games against directional state university.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Kentucky basketball fans always had those dates and times circled
- 53:23Speaker 2: on their calendar. Life stopped for Kentucky basketball.
- 53:27Speaker 3: And that's no longer the case anymore.
- 53:29Speaker 2: I have people who have followed Kentucky basketball for years
- 53:32Speaker 2: and years.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Ask me, Oh, are they playing tonight?
- 53:36Speaker 2: Which is unheard of 20 years ago.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Well, it definitely, so time definitely used to stop for
- 53:42Speaker 1: me in that regard because Indiana football would be one
- 53:45Speaker 1: in five at this juncture of the season. So it's, Yeah,
- 53:47Speaker 1: it was like we were looking for anything to cling
- 53:50Speaker 1: on to. Soccer, basketball, whatever it was. So, yeah, it
- 53:54Speaker 1: used to be that way. But I do think with
- 53:55Speaker 1: the increase in exhibition games, like with every team playing
- 53:59Speaker 1: three of them now, whereas you used to only get, what, one,
- 54:03Speaker 1: maybe two? and offseason that you could play leading up
- 54:06Speaker 1: to the season. So I just think with the increase,
- 54:09Speaker 1: and honestly, they're not the easiest to find. They don't
- 54:14Speaker 1: make them the most accessible, which if you're going to
- 54:17Speaker 1: play a scrimmage game or an exhibition game, make it
- 54:19Speaker 1: accessible so fans can watch it. Why not? Right? I mean,
- 54:23Speaker 1: if we're all about TV numbers and money and all that,
- 54:26Speaker 1: put it on national TV. Let's see it.
- 54:29Speaker 3: And this is the world we live in.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Unfortunately, I think there's really only one answer to that
- 54:34Speaker 2: and just start winning ball games is Mark Pope going
- 54:37Speaker 2: to win enough ball games this year. I'm interested in
- 54:40Speaker 2: your take is kind of a outsider, but a knowledgeable
- 54:44Speaker 2: outsider on something like that. Do you think Pope was
- 54:47Speaker 2: on the hot seat last year?
- 54:49Speaker 3: His seat was getting a little bit warm.
- 54:51Speaker 2: He claims this is going to be, or I hear
- 54:53Speaker 2: a lot of people claiming this is going to be
- 54:55Speaker 2: his best team yet. What have you heard, and what
- 54:59Speaker 2: is your outside take on Kentucky basketball this year?
- 55:03Speaker 1: I do still think that seat for Pope is hot,
- 55:05Speaker 1: especially if you come out and have a very underwhelming
- 55:08Speaker 1: season this year. But I'm with everyone else. I think
- 55:12Speaker 1: it has the makeup of a really good team, especially
- 55:15Speaker 1: if you get– any sort of production for Moose, Maine
- 55:18Speaker 1: and Jai, which he's gotten a lot of hype in
- 55:21Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks. I honestly didn't expect anything
- 55:24Speaker 1: out of him coming into this season. So if he
- 55:26Speaker 1: can provide anything for this team, I think it takes
- 55:29Speaker 1: them to another level. But I do think He did
- 55:31Speaker 1: a great job putting the roster together. I mean, everyone
- 55:34Speaker 1: was so worried about that four position, but you look
- 55:37Speaker 1: at Njai, you look at Justin McBride, you look at,
- 55:40Speaker 1: I mean, Malachi Moreno could play the four. There is
- 55:44Speaker 1: enough Frank Kepnong, another guy, that could slide into that
- 55:47Speaker 1: four or the five. So there's enough big guys there
- 55:51Speaker 1: to make that position okay, especially if Njai can provide
- 55:55Speaker 1: big-time minutes, and he's half of the product that everybody's
- 55:58Speaker 1: saying he could be.
- 56:00Speaker 3: I agree. I think they are talented, but I don't
- 56:03Speaker 3: think they're immensely talented. I don't think you see any
- 56:06Speaker 3: of the guys that you did see come in through
- 56:09Speaker 3: the Cal era in terms of pure talent level. I
- 56:13Speaker 3: don't think there's a go-to guy.
- 56:15Speaker 2: I'm a little bit concerned that there's nobody that they'll
- 56:18Speaker 2: be able to depend on when they're on that road game,
- 56:22Speaker 2: random Tuesday night, they're behind by 10 points. Who's going
- 56:26Speaker 2: to take the bull by the horns and put their
- 56:28Speaker 2: team on their shoulder and and win. I just don't
- 56:32Speaker 2: think you have that guy. Malachi, he was good last year,
- 56:36Speaker 2: but he wasn't great. He's going to need to show
- 56:38Speaker 2: us that he's made a lot of progress. What constitutes success, though,
- 56:42Speaker 2: in your mind? What do they have to.
- 56:44Speaker 3: Do in order to kind of cool the the coals
- 56:49Speaker 3: on this hot seat this year.
- 56:51Speaker 1: I said it earlier this week steven peak's been saying
- 56:54Speaker 1: it all off season but you have to win something
- 56:56Speaker 1: and i agree with him in that you have to
- 56:58Speaker 1: win the sec regular season win the sec tournament or
- 57:02Speaker 1: make a deep run into the elite eight is my
- 57:06Speaker 1: absolute floor like if you don't get to the elite
- 57:10Speaker 1: eight as hard as of a decision it's as it's
- 57:12Speaker 1: going to be for jay bat you just got to
- 57:15Speaker 1: cut ties and move on, bring somebody else in. That's
- 57:18Speaker 1: the way I see it.
- 57:21Speaker 2: I think having Jay Bat as the new AD, somebody
- 57:24Speaker 2: who did not hire Pope, I think that also makes
- 57:27Speaker 2: the seat a little bit hotter. It's going to be
- 57:29Speaker 2: a little bit easier for him to kind of pull
- 57:32Speaker 2: the trigger on something like that. I don't want to
- 57:34Speaker 2: come across as sounding negative, but it's, it's just, you've,
- 57:39Speaker 2: you've had so much disappointment over the course of the past,
- 57:43Speaker 2: that it almost kind of filters into your way of thinking.
- 57:48Speaker 3: What's really going to be different this year? Yeah, the
- 57:51Speaker 3: guys are a little bit more talented, but are injuries
- 57:55Speaker 3: going to end up staying away? That's been kind of
- 57:57Speaker 3: the bugaboo the first two years. They've always had critical
- 58:00Speaker 3: people go down. They're now extremely, extremely talented. Then at
- 58:05Speaker 3: the guard position right now, Pope says that this is
- 58:09Speaker 3: a team of decision makers, that he wants to be
- 58:13Speaker 3: able to put them in a position in which they're
- 58:16Speaker 3: able to make the good decisions. He doesn't want to
- 58:19Speaker 3: make the decisions for them. Now, I'm not quite sure
- 58:22Speaker 3: what that actually means. Are we going to be happy
- 58:26Speaker 3: with Pope?
- 58:27Speaker 2: Them making decisions when they've just thrown the ball six
- 58:30Speaker 2: rows into the stands? Do I want somebody who has
- 58:33Speaker 2: not shown that he's capable of making decisions, of making
- 58:36Speaker 2: those decisions? How much leeway are you going to be
- 58:40Speaker 2: able to put into these guards?
- 58:43Speaker 3: Look, I'm a military guy.
- 58:45Speaker 2: I was a proud graduate of the Army Command and
- 58:49Speaker 2: General Staff College.
- 58:50Speaker 3: And during the time that I was in, there was a.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Lot of talk about about the United States versus Russia
- 58:59Speaker 2: and the way that they kind of had their strategy
- 59:03Speaker 2: in terms of their battlefield strategies. And with the Russians,
- 59:07Speaker 2: especially in terms of their pilots, they had a strict protocol.
- 59:12Speaker 2: They had, if A happens, you go ahead and do B.
- 59:15Speaker 2: If B happens, you do C. Whereas the American pilots,
- 59:20Speaker 2: they were given leeway to kind of make their own decisions,
- 59:23Speaker 2: to assess the battlefield, and to kind of go their
- 59:26Speaker 2: own way, to make those critical decisions at critical times.
- 59:30Speaker 2: And I think this is what Pope is trying to emphasize,
- 59:34Speaker 2: that if he gives his guys enough leeway in order
- 59:38Speaker 2: to make the right decisions, then they're going to be
- 59:41Speaker 2: a team that's going to be hard to contend with.
- 59:44Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure I buy it yet. I want
- 59:46Speaker 2: to see how that ends up playing out.
- 59:49Speaker 1: I do not want Kentucky basketball to be the Russians.
- 59:52Speaker 1: In this scenario, I know that may be a hot
- 59:55Speaker 1: take here, but let's let's take the American strategy. Let's
- 59:58Speaker 1: make these guys try to make their own decisions because
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: they've all played basketball for a really long time. They
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: just haven't played together. So I'm sure that's that's come
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: together in the offseason. Heck, you had a trip that
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: you took earlier in the summer. I'm sure these guys
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: are at a point where they're comfortable with each other's games.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I'm if I'm Kentucky fan, I'm hopeful going into the season.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: Do you really think that's realistic?
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Here you have 14 guys who all played this time
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: last year with different teams, different systems. Is it realistic
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: enough to think that they can come together within a
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: short span of a summer and really be a fine
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: tuned machine?
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I mean, championship team? No. But can they rack up
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: a bunch of wins and keep the losses to a
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: minimum and compete night in and night out? Yeah, I
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: don't see any reason why not.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Big games coming up during the regular season that you
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: want to make sure are circled. November 10th versus Kansas
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: in the Champions Classic. December 12th, Louisville at Rupp Arena.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: And December 19th, versus University of North Carolina in Madison
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Square Garden. I think if Kentucky goes two and one
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: in those, then they're set for a very, very solid season.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: If they end up anything less than that, then I
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: think it's going to be a struggle. Game by game,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: the SEC is not doing them any favors. I think
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Florida is obviously the odds-on favorite to win that. I
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: think in regard to Kentucky having to win something.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: I don't know, to upset the.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Gators in either the regular season or the SEC tournament
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: is a tall task. And if they don't do that,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: our fans are going to be happy. I'm not sure
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: they are. The bar is set pretty high.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: All right, let me throw this scenario out at you.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: You said two and one in that stretch. What if
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: the one loss comes to Louisville and then, On December
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: 20th or November 20th, whenever it is, you lose to
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Indiana in Indy. And you go 2-2 in that four-game stretch.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: That would not be good.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: I don't think that the natives would be very happy
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: with something like that, especially throwing in the emotional attachment
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: to the beating Louisville, the beating IU. That's going to be,
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: those are huge. Kentucky has to win at least one
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: of those games, win both of them. And I think
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: you'll see a lot of smiles on people's faces.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Time for our first break in the second hour now.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: So we will come back and still a bunch of
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: different things to talk about.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: I can't believe how quickly these hours go by. Maybe
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: I am scrolling, talking too much. Fantastic. We'll get to
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: all of those when we come back on the other
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: side of the break. This is Dr. John Kwong, just
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: the cats.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: And they stay there. And they stay there.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: And they stay there.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I got a whole lot of money welcome.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Back just the cats dr john huang justin calen sitting
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: in for michael bennett when did growth street start i
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: think it was 2014 season right I think that game
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: versus South Carolina was maybe one of the most exciting
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: times I've ever been in Kroger Field. We talked about
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: how exciting this Saturday's game is going to be. My
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: question to you and listeners out there, what is the
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: loudest that you've ever felt that Kroger.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Field slash Commonwealth Stadium has been?
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: A couple other times that come to memory, of course,
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: that 1997 game versus Alabama, Tim Couch to Craig Yeast.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: And probably this past.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Year, that Alabama game, I know it was an afternoon
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: game and it was a loss, but during the first half,
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: you could actually hear the reverberations of the crowd coming
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: in through the press box.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: And that doesn't usually happen in Kroger Field.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: That place up there, I know we've talked about the
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: food being pretty sterile up there. The entire atmosphere is
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: pretty sterile, but we heard it during those Alabama cheeries.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: I'm thinking that we're going to hear some of the
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: same this year. What about you, Justin? Not just Kentucky,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: but Louisville games, IU games. Anyone stand out in particular
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: to you?
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: I don't really have. Now, I have a moment. Like,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I have moments within games that were really loud, but
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I don't. Nothing jumps out to me from a standpoint
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: of just loud for the entirety of the game.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: All right. So if any of the listeners have a
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: particular moment, then a particular play, an iconic, memorable game
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: in Kentucky football history and basketball, we can talk about
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: a bunch of those, but in football, I think we're
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: hard pressed to come up with five or 10 to
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: kind of fill that slot. But let me know.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Speaking of football, you brought up the TV numbers. So
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Texas is number one.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: There you go. 9.038 million.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: So nearly that's almost double.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Almost doubling.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: Then you got, this is a big state.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Then you got LSU, Wisconsin, Ohio state comes in at
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: four Ole Miss and Michigan.
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: Wow. Ole Miss. I think it's, that must be the
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin effect. Don't you think? Or the, the prior
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin effect. Maybe. Yeah. All right, Justin, you said
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: you had a couple of texts coming in.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Do you have a couple of texts in first one
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: says the, The basketball team for UK is going to
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: be really good. Stop paying attention to the polls and
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: letting outside noise in.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Yeah, this idea of the polls in general, I don't
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: think that they're good for conversation. And I'd stop short
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: of saying let's just go ahead and abandon them because
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: they provide so much fodder for what we're talking about.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: But they really are very misleading because once you have
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: a particular ranking 1 through 25, then every subsequent ranking
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: is going to be based on.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Your previous ranking.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: So if a team was misranked at the very beginning
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: of the year, it's going to take them two or
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: three weeks to kind of filter out to where they belong.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: Unranked.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: Take texas a and m they were ranked in the
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: top 10 so it looks like that they're probably not
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: as good as.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: They they ended up being it took them about two
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: weeks to kind of filter that out and that's what
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: you're seeing right now these voters they're kind of basing
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: everything on wow they voted the previous week that's true
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: do you like polls or are you into all of.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: That i'm kind of with you i i enjoy them
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: just for to give us something to talk about and
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: it may it doesn't really give you a great indication
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: of the way things are stacking up because everybody's just
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: got their own opinion in that regard i mean look
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: at the football ones you know like so kentucky gets
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: more votes this week and they drop out of the
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: top 25 like how do you get more points and
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: drop out of the top 25 so it's just i
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: don't know everything's so subjective.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Yeah, all these teams that aren't playing, you feel like, well,
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: we can't really drop any of those. We can't penalize
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: them for having an off week, a bye week.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: So they end up staying where they are.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: One team, if you're playing on a Friday night and
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: all the focus and emphasis is on you, such as
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: like Pittsburgh the other night, then chances are people are
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: going to give you a little bit more credit than
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: maybe you deserve and vote you up.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: So, so many different factors go together. into that. It's
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: just not, it's great for conversation.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: It's not a very objective way of really being able
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: to tell who's who's who.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Exactly. Patrick Murphy says, I know from experience about drunk
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: LSU fans, I spent a year down near Baton Rouge.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: When you say drunk, for some people, that is a big,
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: big plus. For me, I'm thinking there's probably a limit.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: You want to go ahead and enjoy yourself, but when
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: you get to the point where everybody circles LSU, Baton Rouge,
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: when I did my book with Derek Ramsey, he talked
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: about how the most difficult place to play was Tiger Stadium,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: mainly because the players were hammered there.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: They'd have things thrown at them. The players or the fans? Because,
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: I'm sorry, the fans were hammered.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: You should have beat them if they were hammered.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: I'm just testing you. I'm making sure that you're listening
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: to me. But they were getting stuff thrown at them.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: There was one time in which they were getting on
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: the bus. and a couple of the, several of the
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: fans started actually rocking the team bus back and forth.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: I think that's a point where things get kind of
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: out of hand.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: That was about 40 years ago. I'm thinking things are
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: a lot different nowadays.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: We'll see tomorrow. Patrick Murphy also says I was just
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: dropped off at home by where I'm getting my car's
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: oil changed. A very good service for those close by
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: and busy.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: It's a good way to pass the time.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: If they're taking 30 or 40 minutes to kind of
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: do the oil change, then what a better way to
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: spend it than listening to.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Just the cats.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: He also lets us know that he'll be competing in
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: the APA Fall Louisville Regional Skill Level 4-5 tournament at
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Rail Yard on Sunday at 10 a.m. Two players from
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: the white tier will qualify for the APA National Tournament
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: in Las Vegas next May.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: How about that? What exactly is that? I'm not familiar
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: with that.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: He's a big pool player.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: I see. I thought he was going to be planking
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: or something like that.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Wouldn't be me.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: We'll call this the, this is going to be the,
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: the Michael Bennett segment. I know that he often likes
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: to talk about non-sports related topics.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: I want to honor the way that he kind of
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: runs his show. So we'll throw a couple of non-sports
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: related topics out there. This is semi, semi sports related,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: but Keeneland does open the 90th fall meet October 2nd
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: through 24th.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: $ 10. 7 million in.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: Stakes, and the Breeders' Cup is at Keeneland October 30th
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: to 31st. The track just went cashless in the dining rooms.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: How many times have you been to Keeneland, Justin, and
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: are you a big fan? You have a big Keeneland story.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: I'm about to upset you. I've never been to Keeneland.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: That doesn't upset me. Believe me.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: How do you feel about Keeneland? I guess is what
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: I want to know.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: This may be a bad take, but I don't like it.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: And basically for a couple of personal reasons, I don't
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: like crowds. I don't enjoy being around drunk people. And
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: I don't like traffic jams, and I have the unfortunate
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: aspect of living one.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Mile from Kingland. Oh, do you?
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: So I know, especially on these track days, that traffic
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: is just going to.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: Be a nightmare around that area. You've got to find
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: a lot of circuitous routes to be able to get
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: around that, especially when they're letting out.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: Now, my brother loves it. He lives there during the
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: fall meets. He takes his pictures and stuff. They love
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: the tailgating.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: On the hill. And it's really beautiful when you get there.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: Anytime that we have visitors come in, that's the only
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: time I ever go when I take them there and
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: they Always tell me.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: Oh, this is such a beautiful track. And it really is.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: When you compare it with some of the most beautiful
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: tracks around the country, it really is neat. My daughter
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: had her.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Wedding reception around that particular area. So I have nothing
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: against the beauty of it. It's just the event itself.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I'm not much into it. I've probably been there maybe 10,
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: 15 times. And like I said, I live a mile
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: from the track itself.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: My thing is, is I just don't want to get
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: dressed up to the nines to go there.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: You know, you don't have to, it's not completely that way.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I can't go in just like a button down shirt. Right.
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: Sure you can.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Well, maybe in some of these highfalutin dining rooms, they
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: do have a dress code. But yeah, just coming in
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: and walking around, you see people dressed in all sorts
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: of attire. So that's another thing.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: California, Keeneland, we've got to go ahead and enrich your experiences.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: We do. Yes, very much. I do want to get
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: to Keeneland, but it's not. I mean, it's probably not
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: in the top 10 of my bucket list.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: Well, come on a weekday when it's not quite nearly
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: as crowded, but maybe we'll change your mind. Maybe once
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: you're there, you'll be completely hooked on that.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: You know what changes my mind when I'm there?
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: What's that?
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: The bets. If I win.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Yeah, see, that's the other thing. I'm not a betting man,
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: so I'm going in there. Okay, what do I do?
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: You look at those programs, and some people feel like
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: they swear that, those programs tell you everything you need
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: to know. And I'm sure that if you're knowledgeable enough
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: about that, that they can give you a little bit
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: of a heads up. But for me, I'm still picking
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: horse names that I like. And most of the time
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: I'm losing.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: So not a big, big fan.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: You should have bet on Michael's horse yesterday. Been a
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: big winner.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: He's still trying to convince me.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: And I can kind of see how that if you've
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: truly got a, a stake in one of these things,
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: how it could ratchet up your enjoyment fold 50,000 times.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: But then I'm afraid I'd get a little bit too
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: addicted to it.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: By the way, I told you that he was on
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: TV yesterday after the race. So he was... he was
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: just doing the interview and the lady's like, Oh, you're
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: a natural. And that's when he's like, he was like, yeah,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I'm on the radio every day in Louisville. He did.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Everybody's best friend, Michael Bennett.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: He did not shout out the show name. What are
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: you doing, Michael?
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: Come on.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: It's your opportunity and you blew it.
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: There you go. He's, he's got, he's got that one
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: track mind on one hand and yet swirling off on
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: all these different topics on a, Speaking of which, are
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: you a movie guy?
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: You got big movie openings this Friday. Aaron Sorkin's The
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: Social Reckoning with Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg. I assume
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: that you did see that first social media movie when
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: it first came out, right? What did you think about that?
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: And are you into this? Is this something that you're
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: going to make a point to see?
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: I did not know this was coming out. I have
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: not been to the movie theaters in probably, oh, I'd
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: say three years. I've probably been to one movie theater
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: in the last 15 years. So no, I think it's
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: safe to say I'm not a movie fan.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: I'm probably the same way.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: I think the last movie I saw in theater was
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: a movie called strays. It was a cartoon and only
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: because the main character was a Boston Terrier. And I've
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: got a 14 year old Boston Terrier named bingo, which
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: I just, yeah.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: He's, he's getting up there. He doesn't do a.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Whole lot, but just kind of sleep, but he still
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: likes to play occasionally, but he and I, we have
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: been through so much.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: He's my first pet. I never had a dog before.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: Our parents, they didn't allow us to have pets when
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: we were growing up. I was a little bit scared
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: of dogs. I was bitten when I was little. I
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: never had a pet until bingo. And now you talk
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: about changing perception now. I don't see how anybody can
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: go without a pet anymore.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: I'm dreading the day when.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: He has to leave this, cross that, what they call it,
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: the rainbow bridge. Now I'm learning all these terms. I
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: don't know if anybody has any hints about something like that.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: Please let me know because I am dreading that day.
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: But yeah, Strays was the last movie that I actually
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: saw in the movie theater.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: He is 98 years old in human years.
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: He is doing surprisingly well.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: And I think part of it is probably good genetics
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: when we picked him out. But also when he was little,
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: he went running with me every single day.
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: So I'm thinking that that probably kind of strengthened his
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: heart and gave him a few more years. I'm hoping
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: it continues, but, man, it's bittersweet thinking about all the
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: times that we spent together. He traveled with me all
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: the time.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: When I was on the road, you know, my goal
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: was to make it to all these SEC road venues,
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: and he was there with me by my side. A
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: lot of fond memories that go into that. So prayers
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: for Bingo. I'm hoping these last few years are going
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: to be highly productive and enjoyable for him.
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Here's to hope.
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: Yeah. Yep.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: The other movie that's coming out is Other Mommy with
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: Jessica Chastain. I know you've seen some of those previews,
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: and that scares the bejesus out of me.
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: It's evidently a horror flick. I like Jessica Chastain.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I think she was in Zero Dark Thirty, the movie
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: about Osama bin Laden and all that.
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: But it'll be interesting to see how that does.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: I didn't know horror movies were so big, but I've
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: heard a lot of chatter about that. And then Tom
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: Cruise's Digger opened last week. I've probably seen all the
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Tom Cruise movies.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: I do enjoy him. I'll acknowledge that.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: But you said you're not seeing anything this weekend. Any
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: of the listeners out there, text me in. Tell me
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: what's on your mind.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: I spend all my time watching sports. I just don't
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: have time for movies. And especially not scary movies. I
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: don't do scary movies. Not because I'm a wimp, but
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: just because they're all the same. Or at least that's
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: what I tell myself.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: So.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: I can have an excuse to not watch them, but yeah,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I'm not a scary movie.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Diversification is the key.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: We'll end up our Friday on the other side of
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: the break with some more Michael Bennett segments. We'll talk
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: about some non-sports related topics, or we can zero back
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: into the NFL. The Bengals have what I call a
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: do or die game. This is a must win against
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: the hapless dolphins, just the cats, Dr. John Wong, just the,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: Justin Kalen substituting for the great Michael Bennett. Just the cats,
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: just the cats, just the cats.
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: We'll see you in a few minutes. We'll be right back.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: We'll be right back. We'll be right back. Welcome back.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: Final segment of Just the Cats. This is Dr.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: John Huang sitting in for Michael Bennett. I'm here with
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Justin Kaelin.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Justin, can you tell how much I enjoy doing this?
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: Am I having fun or what?
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, seems like you're having fun.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I want to.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: Thank Michael for letting me take the controls here. It's
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: just a matter of time, though. I'm going to say
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: something that is going to upset him, and then you
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: will never hear from me again. So I am walking
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: my talk. I am enjoying the moment right now. I'm
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: playing this up for all it's worth. We'll continue with
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: what we'll call my Michael Bennett lifestyle segment. We were
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: talking earlier about how perceptions change.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: I didn't have pets, now I love dogs.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: I used to cheer, stay for the game, now I
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: kind of leave early and tell people to sit down
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: in front of me.
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: One thing that I did notice nowadays is that I've
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: never been a handyman. I don't know how much of
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: a handyman you are around the house, but I never
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: liked to fix things. And ever since I downsized into
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: my apartments, my life has been great. I walked out
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: this morning on the patio. I had a light bulb
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: that was out. What do I do? I don't just
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: go looking for a light bulb and change it.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: I get online, go to my management company, put in
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: a work order, and they're going to come in later
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: and change my.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: Light bulb for me. How great is that?
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: What is something that you happily pay somebody else to
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: do now that you could easily do yourself? Does anything
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: come to mind?
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: I mean, I think anything that I have to do,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: if I could afford to pay for it, I absolutely would.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Because I'm kind of with you. Why should I do
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: something if there's somebody that gets paid to do that?
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: Unless you enjoy it, right? Unless you get some sort
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: of benefit out of it.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: Exactly. Like, I'm not trying to take jobs away from people.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: But now the one thing that I do enjoy that
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I could pay for, but I probably never will, It's
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: like my, like lawn care. I love, I love mowing
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: grass for whatever reason. So I don't think I would
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: ever pay anybody to do that for me, but that's,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: that would be one example.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: So do you do it for exercise or is it relaxing?
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: Do you just like the smell of grass?
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Do you like the look of your manicured lawn after
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: you finished mowing it?
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Let me just say, I don't do anything for exercise purposes.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: I do like the smell of the grass. I, I, it's,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: It's kind of my me time. I'll just throw in
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: some headphones and I'll just sit there and listen to
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: music or listen to a podcast while I'm mowing. It
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: is very relaxing.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Along the same lines, though, I'm thinking back, I'm reminiscing,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: I'm thinking about how quickly all these years have gone by. Hey, people,
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: if you get anything out of these two hours, just
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: realize that life is short.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: I can tell you from experience.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: But I'm thinking back to my parents when they were
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: alive and all the things that they made me do
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: as a kid that I hated back then, but that
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: I appreciate right now. And That's my question to you, Justin.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Is there anything that jumps out in your mind? For me,
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: one particular thing that I think was pretty specific is.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: That they made me continue to study the Chinese language
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: even as I was young. And nowadays, if you're Chinese
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: and you can't speak Mandarin, then people don't really look
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: at you as pure Chinese. So my heritage is something
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: that I valued. And one of the identities of my
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: heritage is still being able to speak the language. I
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: don't speak it very well. It's kind of littered with.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: occasional English terms nowadays when I can't think of the word,
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: but I can still carry on a pretty good conversation.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: But it was learning, doing my Chinese lessons.
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: And I can't tell you how frustrating that was when
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: I was a kid. Every day after school, when all
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: my buddies were out there shooting baskets or throwing the
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: football around, I had to do my 30 minutes of
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: Chinese lessons. Hated it then, but it's probably one of
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: the best things my parents ever did for me now.
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: What say ye?
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: I would have killed for an experience like that. My
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: mom and my grandparents moved here from Germany when my
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: mom was nine. So they all speak German and my mom.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: never taught me German. I can, I can speak a
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: few phrases and a few words and I can count
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: and all that. I can do the basic stuff, but
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: I can't by any means carry a conversation. So that
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: is the one thing I wish they had taught me.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: But the one thing that I take away from my
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: childhood that I've taken into adulthood that I really appreciate,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: they constantly made me clean, whether it was my room,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: whether it was the bathroom once a week. I mean,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: they constantly were making me clean something. And now as
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: a result of that, I'm I'm a pretty clean guy.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: I mean, if you walk into my room at my house,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: you'd I'd like to think you'd be pretty impressed that
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: everything's like well kept together and putting it certain place.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: And I don't have a bunch of crap laying on
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: the floor. And that's that's something that I got from
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: my parents that I'm very grateful for today.
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: Do you make your bed every morning?
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Not necessarily.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: No.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: I mean, I straighten it up. But making to say
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: I make it's a stretch.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I think an organization does tell you something about somebody.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: If you walk into somebody's office and you see their
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: desk is clean and not cluttered, I think that does
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: give you a little bit more confidence that, hey, maybe
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: this guy will be responsible.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: He will keep appointments. He will return my phone calls.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: Whether that's true or not, I don't think there's been
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: any real study that shows that.
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: But top of my head, I think that's a good indication.
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: For sure.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: All right, what is something that everybody seems to love
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: nowadays that you simply still don't get? What is your
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: old man take? in regard to anything in society right now.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: And don't say TikTok. Are you on TikTok?
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: No, God, no.
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: I still kind of don't get it.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: I can kind of see how somebody might get hooked
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: into it, but I still don't get it.
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: Technology-wise, what is it? Is there any food items? You know,
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: for me, that's always been Chick-fil-A. I still don't get it.
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: You're talking about a chicken sandwich or chicken nuggets. What's
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: the big deal about it?
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: And that's going to do it for just the cats. today.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: We can no longer have Dr. John Wong host this show.
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: I told you I had bad taste. I told you
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: I had bad taste. So you're a big Chick-fil-A.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: Fan, right? It's the Lord's chicken. How can you not
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: love it? Come on, man.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: I still can't. I don't get it. But anyway, what else? Food, entertainment, technology,
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: anything goes.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I'm ready to, I'm going to complete the circle here
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: for you. You ready? Noodles and chili.
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: They don't belong in chili. It is chili season right now,
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: and we have to settle this once and for all.
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: Beans or no beans, noodles or no noodles.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: All the beans, no noodles. You are a traditionalist, so.
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you are a traditionalist, so I could have predicted that. Beans,
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: you see a lot of that in chili, especially the
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: Tex-Mex kind. Noodles, a little bit more optional. I could
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: probably take them or leave them. I'd probably take them
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: if you put a gun to my head and forced
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: me to choose one way or the other, but... I
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: think that's personal preference.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Once you start putting those extra additional carbs into it,
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: then I'm not quite sure you can really call it
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: chili anymore.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm right there with it. Let me ask you this.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: Have you ever put peanut butter in your chili?
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: I have not, but I can also see how that
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: could occasionally work. Also, you're talking about mainly as, as
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: just part of the sauce, correct? No.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: So when my, like we'll make a big pot of chili.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: I'll throw it in a bowl and then I'll take
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: a spoon and I'll put a couple spoonfuls of crunchy
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: peanut butter in there and just mix it all in.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: It's incredible.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: I will try that.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: I think I could get into something like that. In
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: a lot of Asian cooking, we have what we call
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: this hoisin peanut sauce. Whenever you have a hot pot
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: where you've got the big boiling pot right sitting in
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: the middle of the table and you're dipping all these
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: uncooked meats and vegetables into it, the main go-to sauce
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: is a peanut sauce, which has peanut butter in it.
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: I think that could play very, very well in terms
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: of a chili. Yeah. Are you a cook?
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: You sound like you do a fair amount of cooking.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: No, I do no cooking. No, when I say we
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: make a pot of chili, I mean the roommate makes
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: a pot of chili. If I'm eating, it's kind of
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: like going back to the conversation we just had. Why
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: am I going to do something if somebody else can
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: do it for me? I order out a lot. A lot.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that may need to change as time goes on.
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: I'm not going to be your mommy and force you
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: to do all these healthy things. But based on everything
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: that we've talked about, that is one area that we
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: diverse quite a bit is in terms of fitness and
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: health and nutrition.
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: It's true. And I need to be the good influence
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: on you in regard to that.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: Would you believe me if I told you that back
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: in the day I was a cross country runner?
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: Anything's possible these days.
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: But on the other hand, I didn't really see much
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: of the purpose in running cross country.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: So on the other hand, I could kind of see
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: how that could have discouraged you for life from doing
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: any of that. Yeah.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: All right. Got a couple of texts. I want to
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: get in before we get out of here. First one
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: says in their defense, wouldn't you have to spend most
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: of your time drunk to live anywhere in Louisiana?
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: Sure.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Starkville is about the same experience.
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: I disagree with that. I spent many, many times in
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: of all places, Leesville, Louisiana, but still I had the
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: Cajun flair, the Cajun atmosphere. I love the crawfish, all
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: that jambalaya. The food was fantastic. It was year round
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: tennis weather. Louisiana was a good place to be. If
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: you enjoyed hot, humid weather, I've always, I would disagree.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: I've always wanted to go to Louisiana as well. I wouldn't,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Wouldn't hate living there myself.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: The culture is so different. So different. Very unique.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Dexter says chili is whatever you want it to be. Noodles, beans,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: peanut butter. Just have fun with it. If it tastes good,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: don't question it.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: So here's where I need to really learn and up
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: my game. I should have done this lifestyle segment at
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: the very beginning of the show.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Is that correct?
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: That way that would get plenty of people, plenty of
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: time to kind of respond in. Instead, we're talking boring
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: subjects like University of Kentucky football and basketball, right?
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: People don't want to text in about sports. We always
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: get the most text when we're talking something crazy.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: Well, what do you think is another one of these
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: skills that is slowly disappearing?
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: People nowadays, I don't think very many people know how
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: to read a map anymore, right?
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: There's no need for it.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, or handwriting. Right now, everything is screen-related, reading
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: a map, writing on the screen.
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: How about fixing things, right? You don't need to fix things.
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: You can go on YouTube and it'll teach you how
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: to do it.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Honestly, it's funny you bring this up because I've actually
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: made a concerted effort in my broadcasting career. I've thought
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: about typing out my game notes but i have i'm
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: still hanging on strong where i handwrite them for every
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: single game that i do because that's that's part of
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: my process i enjoy handwriting my notes and i just
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: i can't imagine ever switching over to a point where
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: i'm typing everything.
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: Out Yeah, my problem is once I write them down, remember,
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: I'm a doctor. I can't read what I've written anymore.
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: So I usually go directly now to the computer screen,
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: and I type everything out, game notes. Even as I'm
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: covering a UK sporting event, if there's something I know
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: that I want to address in a column later on,
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: I'll go ahead and type it out.
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: It's so much easier to be able to cut and
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: paste also.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: You're not wrong.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: Yeah. And I think part of our ease of doing
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: things is– is how simple it has become with computers
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: and smartphones.
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: So let me ask you this one. If a smartphone
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: disappeared tomorrow, what would you end up missing the most
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: about it? Is there something about our phones that you
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: are now completely dependent upon? Surely you keep your schedule
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: now on your phone, right?
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: You don't hand write that out anymore, do you?
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I actually, yeah, I have a magnet on my fridge
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: that I write my whole schedule on, to be honest
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: with you.
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: You're joking.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: Yeah, tell me you're joking on that. No, I'm not. Oh, wow.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: No, I do. I have a magnetized calendar on my fridge.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: But really the only thing about a smartphone that I
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: would miss is, would be just having the ability at
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: my fingertips to look up information. Like, for instance, I
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: was able to look up those TV numbers on my
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: phone earlier. So I would miss being able to quickly
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: get access to information that I need. That's really, I think,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: the only thing I would.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: And that's pretty important based on what you're doing, right?
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: Yeah, sure.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I know one thing I won't miss are
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: these spam calls. It seems like I'm getting five or
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: six of those every single day, and I don't know
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: what to do.
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: Is there a way that you can permit?
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: I go ahead and press delete and report a spam,
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: and I block, but they still just keep on talking.
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: I think this is just the profession we have chosen.
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: This is the world we live in, is it not?
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: It's annoying. I hate it.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: All right. What does that actually mean? Now you just
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: signaled me touchdown. Does that mean that we are 10
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: seconds and I need to cut it off right here.
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: All right. 10 seconds. It's 10 seconds. Thank you for
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: joining us. Dr.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: John Wong sitting in for Michael Bennett on just the cats,
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: maybe for the last time.
