- 0:07Hi, Jay Fallon here. Thank you for listening to these
- 0:10slippery slope. Now, listen, I've done a couple
- 0:12of episodes discussing, how I believe electric vehicles pose
- 0:19in my opinion, a fairly large threat especially giving control
- 0:23to much control to our governments, too much control to
- 0:27other people, to be able to control when we can, we can
- 0:31charge air vehicles and how we move about.
- 0:34So I believe electric vehicles open that door.
- 0:36Or, and give the government too much control too much Advantage.
- 0:41Insight into our life and funny enough.
- 0:44Now, other people are starting to take note or starting to
- 0:47speak out about security concerns when it comes to
- 0:50electric vehicles. This, if this news article came
- 0:54through from SBS news, the headline, says, why more
- 0:58electric vehicles on Australian roads, could bring risks?
- 1:02Now, in the previous episodes that I've done, I've spoken
- 1:05about in the UK, Okay, they have legislation passed that with any
- 1:10new charging station that you put that you install into your
- 1:14home. It has to be connected to the
- 1:17electric grid. Has to be monitored via internet
- 1:21obviously. And then, the government can
- 1:24monitor, our can tell you. When you can charge, they can
- 1:27actually control when you charge your vehicle and they can turn
- 1:31it, actually turn your charging on and off at their will.
- 1:34If there is too much Load put on the electric grid that they can
- 1:39shut down your charging of the your electric vehicle.
- 1:43And this I believe is what gives them too much control.
- 1:46We do not, you know, the system that we have in place, now you
- 1:49can go to a petrol station, most stations are open 24 hours a
- 1:54day. Specially in the city, you can
- 1:55go on and fuel up as long as you've got the money to fuel up.
- 1:59You can go and do it. Anytime people cannot be
- 2:01controlled, whereas electric cars, you can be controlled
- 2:05anyway. So as I said so, This headline,
- 2:07says, why more electric vehicles on Australian roads could bring
- 2:11risks. So, Australian Regulators, need
- 2:14to consider cybersecurity when connecting electric vehicles to
- 2:18the National Grid and expert warns to prevent major
- 2:23disruptions. So connecting electric vehicles
- 2:26to the National Grid. Could open the door to
- 2:28cyberattacks and widespread power outages until Regulators
- 2:33get the security settings, right?
- 2:35Early Sworn love these, the experts all the time.
- 2:39So despite a national consultation paper on Australian
- 2:43transition to electric vehicles, energy experts said, the cyber
- 2:48security implications of the move had yet to be flagged in
- 2:51the discussion and needed to be prioritized.
- 2:54So the head of the electric vehicle Council energy, and
- 2:58infrastructure, Ross Durango, A spoken to a AP, tackling the
- 3:04issue and he said, the tackling the issue was vital to
- 3:08preventing costly or damaging outcomes.
- 3:11You also says that Australians would use roughly 40%.
- 3:15That's right. 40% more electricity after wide adoption
- 3:21of electric vehicles. Mr. Durango said, and charging
- 3:24them at once and during peak times could be calamitous.
- 3:30Well no joke. Anyway he says a wall energy.
- 3:34Companies could schedule orchestrate vehicle charging
- 3:38like hot water systems. And as I said, giving energy
- 3:41companies control over. I mean if you come home and you
- 3:45need to charge your vehicle urgently they can still control.
- 3:51That's the last thing you want. Someone else having control over
- 3:54how you charge your vehicle. Anyway, goes on to say and he
- 3:58said connecting this technology to the National good.
- 4:01Grid could introduce new security threats.
- 4:05He says that a hacker could, for example, exploit security, flaws
- 4:10to force all vehicles to charge at the wrong time to create
- 4:15power outages. He says, what happens if we are
- 4:18building a system where all of the EV charging normally happens
- 4:22at the right time and they malicious actor gets involved
- 4:26and all of a sudden the EV charging happens at the wrong
- 4:30time. He said, That's where cyber
- 4:32security comes into it. Mr. Durango said security holes
- 4:36could be exploited in software by vehicle manufacturers.
- 4:41Well, software providers, or energy companies, unlike
- 4:45traditional power connections, but who would have thunk it?
- 4:49Hey, a Vehicle Manufacturer, could exploit the software that
- 4:53would have thought that a Vehicle Manufacturer could
- 4:55exploit an issue in the software to make more money.
- 4:59And he says if we have a Future with the means of connection and
- 5:04control is via the Internet. There is a threat surface there
- 5:09that doesn't exist right now very true because we all like I
- 5:14said, just go to the petrol station and fill up whenever we
- 5:18want at our own discretion. We're not held at the mercy of
- 5:22security companies or whatever else.
- 5:25So continue with the article, in addition blackberry asia-pacific
- 5:30and Japan. Ring director.
- 5:32Jonathan Jackson said security flaws had already been
- 5:37identified in electric vehicle, charging equipment overseas.
- 5:41So, a study conducted by Carlos Alvarez College of Business in
- 5:46the United States. Identified significant security
- 5:50holes in 13 out of 16 EV charging stations so well over
- 5:5750%, well over 50%, they've got significant security.
- 6:01Holes, including missing authentication standards.
- 6:05So the vulnerabilities just in the software alone on V's is
- 6:10showing, we've got a long way to go at a global level not just in
- 6:15Australia to ensure the security of the energy system and mr.
- 6:19Jackson said we don't actually have a choice here.
- 6:23Well actually we do it goes on to say if we've got the stated
- 6:27gain of Evie's helping us to drive to Net Zero, Emissions.
- 6:33We are absolutely going to need to tackle.
- 6:35This head-on it's a matter of if not win and this is the whole
- 6:38issue. We're being Corral de into the
- 6:40corner and everyone is taking up this.
- 6:43Let's not even get into the whole climate change, but
- 6:45everyone is being told we have to do this.
- 6:48Net Zero is a must. There is no choice.
- 6:51We've been given no choice. And so, we're rushing headfirst
- 6:56just like a bullet of the gate straight into the EV market.
- 7:00And yet, there are all these Security risks besides the
- 7:03government having, in my opinion, way too much control
- 7:07electric companies, having way too much control.
- 7:10You know, this the minutes you have like there said over, 40%
- 7:13more, electric usage. You are going to start having
- 7:17more brownouts and blackouts. So, mr.
- 7:20Jackson also pointed to recent ransomware attacks on energy
- 7:24suppliers, which include queensland's which is the state.
- 7:28I live CS energy which happened in November. 20 21 and America's
- 7:34Colonial pipeline in May as proof the National Grid could be
- 7:39targeted but protecting Australia's power network was
- 7:42achievable. He said if Regulators acted
- 7:45early so he says once all the buildings have got smart EV
- 7:50orchestrated, it's going to be incredibly costly for everyone
- 7:54to bolts Security on afterwards. Listen, as I said, the concern
- 8:00here for me is that we are Giving over jumping into
- 8:04electric vehicles, gives over too much control to governments
- 8:07to power stations, to power companies to the electric
- 8:12vehicle companies, they will be able to control when and where,
- 8:16and if you're allowed to charge your vehicle, thus controlling
- 8:22where you can drive to how far you can drive to monitoring
- 8:26where you're driving to controlling how far you go from
- 8:31your home. You are giving we are giving way
- 8:34too much over to people who are not concerned for our
- 8:39well-being, our welfare. As we've seen in the last couple
- 8:44of years with covid, the government's do not really care
- 8:47about the people that they actually work for.
- 8:51They will use any excuse whatsoever, any excuse to take
- 8:58control over our lives this Farce of a lie, which is forcing
- 9:05us into the electric vehicle Market is nothing more than
- 9:09that. Then a lie that we need to get
- 9:12Net Zero but hey, apparently, when I led to question, we're
- 9:17not allowed to question anything anymore.
- 9:19Net. Zero is all the rage and that's
- 9:21all everyone wants to think about, as long as it gets us to
- 9:25Net Zero. It doesn't matter what damage is
- 9:29caused in the meantime, apparently that's my opinion.
- 9:34Please let me know what you think.
- 9:36Do you think going to electric vehicles?
- 9:38Is just all good and we can trust the government's power
- 9:41companies, electric vehicle companies.
- 9:43Yep, it's all good. What do you think we're in for
- 9:46some rocky times personally, I think that raising our
- 9:50electricity use by 40% is going to have is going to cause huge
- 9:56Huge issues with the Australian National Grid and our
- 10:01electricity Market. That's just my opinion.
- 10:05Thank you for listening to the slippery slope.
