- 0:42Dan Schulz: If you've ever thought people fly down this road too frigging fast, now's your chance to actually let the city know before future speed limits are decided.
- 0:53Jennifer Davis: Big Block Brewery is throwing a lucky 13 birthday party on Saturday, July 11th from noon until 9:00.
- 1:01Jennifer Davis: They've packed the day with something for just about everyone.

- 1:58Jennifer Davis: One of the biggest concerts in town this week lands at Marymoor Live on Sunday, July 12th.
- 2:05Jennifer Davis: Doors open at 5:00, and the Marcus King Band takes the stage at 7:00 after an opening set from Penelope Road.
- 2:13Jennifer Davis: If you've never been to a summer concert at Marymoor, this is a good excuse to change that.
- 2:18Jennifer Davis: Bring a blanket, plan to arrive early, and settle in before the music starts
- 2:25Dan Schulz: Bad news if you were planning to ride the inaugural Get Mad cycling event this year.
- 2:30Dan Schulz: The Redmond Cycling Club has canceled the ride after permitting issues and questions about using state highways and the closed section of State Route 165 couldn't be worked out.
- 2:42Dan Schulz: We told you this might happen a couple episodes ago, and sadly it is now canceled.
- 2:47Dan Schulz: A lot of local riders were looking forward to adding another big Northwest ride to the calendar, so this one definitely stings.
- 2:54Dan Schulz: The club says it hopes to bring the event back in the future, so here's hoping this ends up being a postponement instead of the end of a ride
- 3:04Jennifer Davis: This might be the cutest thing happening in Redmond all week.
- 3:10Jennifer Davis: Petco Redmond is hosting Piggy Cup 2026 on Sunday, July 12th from 2:00 to 3:00, where miniature pigs take the field for a soccer match while kids cheer them on.
- 3:21Dan Schulz: Oh my God, I would love this
- 3:27Jennifer Davis: I just hope they're wearing little jerseys.
- 3:30Dan Schulz: Yes.
- 3:31Dan Schulz: And helmets.
- 3:32Dan Schulz: And helmets
- 3:33Jennifer Davis: There'll be family activities, plenty of photo opportunities, and everyone gets to pick their favorite little MV piggy.
- 3:41Jennifer Davis: It's free to attend, and even if you're just stopping by while running errands, this one should put a smile on your face
- 3:50Dan Schulz: Quick question.
- 3:51Dan Schulz: If your neighbor came to you and said, "Hey, I've got this weird wet spot here in the yard and it's not drying up," would you know what you would tell them?
- 4:00Dan Schulz: Uh, probably not because most people wouldn't, and that's usually an underground water leak, and most plumbers don't even handle that.
- 4:09Dan Schulz: In fact, they'd tell you to call a specialist, and that's where Simply Leak Detection comes in.
- 4:14Dan Schulz: They're the company that a lot of plumbers call when they can't find the leak.
- 4:19Dan Schulz: Non-invasive, no digging, they pinpoint exactly where the leak is.
- 4:25Dan Schulz: They have over 300 5-star reviews, and they cover Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, This message brought to you courtesy of Simply Leak Detection
- 4:35Jennifer Davis: If retirement is on your mind, the Redmond Library is hosting a free workshop on Sunday, July 12th from 1:00 to 2:00, covering the five phases of retirement planning.
- 4:47Jennifer Davis: They'll talk through tax-efficient withdrawals, required minimum distributions, beneficiary planning, and ways to build a retirement strategy that can adapt as life changes.
- 4:59Jennifer Davis: it's geared toward adults 50 and older, whether retirement is still a few years away or you've already made the leap.
- 5:06Jennifer Davis: Bring your questions because this is one of those topics that's easier to understand when someone holds your hand and walks you through it
- 5:16Dan Schulz: Okay, it is time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.
- 5:26Dan Schulz: Today's question is: Which historic Redmond building once housed the town's undertaker, barber, hardware store, pizza parlor, and originally opened as a saloon in 1913?
- 5:43Jennifer Davis: Oh
- 5:43Dan Schulz: And your choices are A, the Cleese Mansion, B, the Matador Building, C, the Old Redmond Schoolhouse, D, the Leary Building.
- 5:56Dan Schulz: Jennifer, your time starts, starts, starts now
- 6:07Jennifer Davis: Oh boy, that's a, that's a tough one.
- 6:08Jennifer Davis: I, I'm gonna rule out the Cleese Mansion 'cause that's not in town.
- 6:12Jennifer Davis: I'm assuming this is gonna be a central building.
- 6:16Jennifer Davis: And boy, wouldn't it be fun if it was all these things all at once?
- 6:19Jennifer Davis: Undertaker, barber, pizza parlor all in one.
- 6:25Jennifer Davis: it probably isn't the schoolhouse 'cause I think that was a school for quite a while.
- 6:30Jennifer Davis: I'm gonna guess it's either the Matador or the Leary building, but considering I know all about Bill Brown I know he had to do with the Matador building, so I'm gonna go with B, the Matador building.
- 6:43Jennifer Davis: And also that's very centrally located, so I'm gonna go with that.
- 6:46Jennifer Davis: B, the Matador building, final answer
- 6:51Dan Schulz: Jennifer has done it again.
- 6:54Dan Schulz: She is right.
- 6:55Dan Schulz: It is in fact the Matador building.
- 6:57Dan Schulz: That building has had about as many careers as a downtown Redmond resident could imagine.
- 7:02Dan Schulz: It's one of those places that proves old buildings in Redmond usually come with a long, strange resume
- 7:19Jennifer Davis: We've been hearing that a Vietnamese sandwich and coffee shop could be looking at a spot along the Cleveland Street corridor.
- 7:27Jennifer Davis: The rumor is they'll be serving banh mi sandwiches, iced cafe, and other quick lunch favorites in a small fast service space.
- 7:37Jennifer Davis: We've also heard the owner has spent the last three years building a following through farmers market pop-ups, but we haven't been able to confirm any of this yet.
- 7:46Jennifer Davis: So is this Redmond's next great lunch spot, or is it still just neighborhood chatter?
- 7:51Jennifer Davis: If you've got a guess or have heard something about this, head over to our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestofredmond and drop it in the Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses post
- 8:04Dan Schulz: And while you're at the Facebook page, try to find the post called Your Picks and vote for this question.
