- 0:00The boys are back in time. Third Man, it's been a it's it's
- 0:10been a wild dog, it's been a while. It's funny because we've been
- 0:14like interacting more, but on the pod we haven't, you know what I
- 0:19mean, if that makes sense. It's funny because we've been interacting more,
- 0:23but the chat's been quiet and the pod has been um, like different lineups
- 0:28and stuff. We just we were talking about it before, like we're all
- 0:32three and just like a super busy time right now, and it's just man,
- 0:36it's crazy. It's we were just like I said, we were just
- 0:39talking about I'm drinking this corona. If you see me drinking a corona,
- 0:42that's the dad drink. That's me just proclaiming that I'm a father and I'm
- 0:47tired. Yo. Yeah, that's exactly how to reward yourself. Is finally
- 0:55slowing down after the last six weeks. Man, it's probably the commons week
- 0:58I've had. Man, I've I've commended you in our private chats, but
- 1:06dog, I don't know how you did it six weeks away from home on
- 1:10the go the whole time. No, Like that's like a different dynamic because
- 1:15it's like you're on the go and even if you're having fun, you still
- 1:19don't get to like unwind and relax because you're not home, you know what
- 1:23I mean. It's like whenever we used to go like to uh I mean
- 1:26not used to because we still do this kind of stuff, but like whenever
- 1:29we would go to Atlanta, La whatever, just to work on music or
- 1:33just get stuff done, it's always like people think it's like, oh man,
- 1:38you out there, you're just vibing or whatever. It's like, it's
- 1:40work. You do enjoy it when you're in it, and you know you
- 1:44love the process. But it's like, at least for me, man,
- 1:47I'm the type of person I want to be home, Like I just want
- 1:49to be home every time. I agree, and it it's it was it
- 1:56was just action packed. You know. We go over there and we're visiting,
- 1:59so we have to make the most of everything. And now her entire
- 2:01families there, My entire family is there, her friends are there, My
- 2:06friends are there, and it's just like a group of one hundred people combined
- 2:09that we got to set time aside for and there's not enough time to do
- 2:13it on the weekend, so that fitting in weeknights and just like you know,
- 2:17when Q was over there, we did have a barbecue, but y'all
- 2:21was working that morning. I pretty much did work that morning. Still,
- 2:23you start to fit you can't just have one day for one thing, and
- 2:27because there's not enough time. Past week, it was my first free weekend
- 2:32and it felt amazing. So, Joe, I don't know if you ran
- 2:36into this at all, but how does it feel when people kind of feel
- 2:39like they're entitled to your time? Do you run into that, like where
- 2:43somebody's like feeling a certain type of way or something. My first year gone,
- 2:47Yet every time my web bag, I kind of felt obligated and if
- 2:53I did, and I felt bad, But I said, after the second
- 2:55year, I'm like, nah, man, it's y'all don't know even know
- 2:58how much work it is to come and see y'all and not be able to
- 3:01say, hey, I'm doing this, just come through. So that's how
- 3:04it is now. So these last maybe a few months, I've switched to
- 3:08I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna be doing this. If if you want
- 3:12to come and meet up, come through. If not, they we'll try
- 3:15to work it out. But like you were, planned that barbecue a month
- 3:19before I went out there, and that's just to make sure that's just say
- 3:23we're planning that I'm going that's what I'm doing that day, and I'm doing
- 3:25not doing nothing else that day, and just because of that. So if
- 3:30I didn't plan something with you and I'm out there and you're like, hey,
- 3:32oh you're not, We're not gonna hang I'm like, this is a
- 3:36list of stuff I'm doing. If you want to come meet up. It
- 3:38up. But in the beginning, yeah, beginning, I was trying to
- 3:40just do too much and cater to everybody, and then I just found myself
- 3:46more just drained of energy than I would have been. I'm still draining of
- 3:51energy, but in the beginning it was kind of mentally draining. Now he
- 3:55was going, so long, bro, your car battery was there by the
- 3:58time you got back. Yeah, I doesn't remember when my office looks like
- 4:01he's questioned everything he said. He doesn't remember the couch behind me. I
- 4:04thought it was in a different room. Like, I'm like, what's going
- 4:06on? You reorganize or something. Shout out to a friend of mine,
- 4:12Ta te Man because she you know, one time I came back home and
- 4:15I saw I saw her and I'm like Damn, bro, you ain't telling
- 4:18nobody was gonna be out here. You know what, I would have set
- 4:20it up. And she basically put it straight. She said, Yo,
- 4:25I come out here with an agenda. If I can see somebody while I'm
- 4:29out here, then that's great. But I'm not letting nobody know I'm out
- 4:31here because then that expectation it's just stressful, Like I'm not trying to have
- 4:36that pressure of like, oh man, I didn't see you, Like,
- 4:40Bro, if you see me, you see me. If you don't,
- 4:42I see you next time. But I'm here for this and everything else is
- 4:45just icing on the cake. And when she said that, Bro, I
- 4:47was like, Yo, that's facts. Bro. There's no reason to announce
- 4:50that I'm gonna be in Orlando. Like, if I get out there and
- 4:54and it makes sense that we can link up, we'll link up. But
- 4:58if you're not on the agenda, bro, not only agenda mat it's rough,
- 5:01man. It's not like we're just going over there. Just wake up
- 5:03and figure it out each day. There's it's funny, man, because there's
- 5:09that element of certain people that they have a lot of free time, so
- 5:13they kind of don't understand or just don't really want to understand the concept of
- 5:19like I don't have time like that, you know what I mean. It's
- 5:23like, it's not it's not saying that every single moment of your day is
- 5:27taken up. It's just whenever you do have a free moment, it's not
- 5:30that long. And at the same time, like you need that as downtime
- 5:33to not go insane, you know what I mean. Yeah, it's like
- 5:36when we game every once in a while, A lot of times that be
- 5:40like the only time in the day that I'm just straight chilling, you know
- 5:44what i mean. Like we get on for an hour, that's like my
- 5:46time to kind of online and not worry about anything else. And then as
- 5:49soon as we get off, I'm back in my studio doing some stuff on
- 5:53the computer, you know what I mean. I'm wrapping up some designs,
- 5:56like I'm doing different things. Yeah, that's right, even hard for us
- 6:00to like play together. And you made a comment the other thing. It
- 6:03was last Friday because you knew what you was gonna do for the night,
- 6:06and you knew when you wanted a game, and you were trying to make
- 6:10it work, like I'm trying to make it work for Ronnie, but it's
- 6:12not looking good. It's because like we want to play, but we only
- 6:15have this certain time before we got to do what we need to do for
- 6:18the night. But we tried, but not everybody is free all the time
- 6:23at the same time like we used to be when we were you know,
- 6:26younger. But it's also like, you know, we all recognized and understand
- 6:30that. You know what I'm saying is like everybody got their responsibilities and we
- 6:32understand that. And I think that's kind of like going to what you were
- 6:36saying Leicester, where some people just don't understand that because they have all this
- 6:42time, you know what I mean, Like they see things the way they
- 6:45see things, and they expect you to be just as available as then that'd
- 6:48be the breakdown. A lot of times I noticed in relationships just in general,
- 6:53you know what I mean, like any kind of relationship. It's and
- 6:57it's something I kind of tapped into last week when y'are wearing here or like
- 7:00people just not having that time to really sit and reflect within themselves and really
- 7:03see like what they got going on and what makes them happy like to themselves,
- 7:09and they kind of push these narratives and expectations on other people. And
- 7:14it's something that I've encountered, especially moving around with the music stuff, where
- 7:19like certain people have different reasonings why they're in the situation they're in, Slash,
- 7:27they have different ideas in their head of why they haven't gotten farther than
- 7:30they have. But at the end of the day, like we're all busy,
- 7:33Like everybody has their thing that takes up that takes up a big chunk
- 7:38of their day that they have to kind of navigate around to make other stuff
- 7:42happen. And it's like, if you're just not going to be the type
- 7:45of person to figure that out, then you're not gonna understand, Slash.
- 7:49I'm not gonna waste my time making time, you know what I mean,
- 7:53especially trying to make time for somebody that just got nothing but time. Like,
- 7:57if anything, you should be revolving around what I'm doing because you don't
- 8:00got nine going on, you know what I mean. I agree on And
- 8:05it's important too, Like I said, you know, as I get older
- 8:09and I do this more than I did when I was younger, and it's
- 8:13important to you. You know, you just got to set aside time for
- 8:16everything, prioritize your time, like today I went I went boxing today,
- 8:22and they used to have like these open hours in my boxing gym where you
- 8:24can just go and work out yourself and I work out with any trainer or
- 8:26anybody else. And they stopped that, and I asked, it's like,
- 8:30dude, you have that, and she's like, we don't. We don't
- 8:33advertise it, but we do it. And I was like, can you
- 8:35give me like the weekly hours where I can come in anytime I want?
- 8:39Because that's the biggest issue of me getting a boxing workout is they only have
- 8:43certain hours where I can go in there and that as an aligned with my
- 8:46schedule, but I need it because that's one of my best workouts where I
- 8:48burned the most. So now I have a custom schedule and I have hours
- 8:52written down literally on this on the sticky note of when I can come in
- 8:56and do my own private workouts. And now like that just opened the whole
- 9:00new world to me. Now I can rearrange my whole day without fitting in
- 9:03the only times after boxing and fitting boxing when I have time, So that
- 9:09that little bit of just asking a question and you know, giving my giving
- 9:13the intent to trying to find the best time for me to do it has
- 9:16opened up a whole new week for me. So next week is gonna be
- 9:18amazing now that I don't have to play my whole day around my workout.
- 9:22Now I could just do my day and be like, Okay, look I
- 9:24got three hours here where I can hit the workout for like forty five minutes.
- 9:28Whenever I walk boom. How's everything going with the engagement party, Quincy?
- 9:33I know you got this weekend. I know you've been running ragged,
- 9:37traveling and kind of preparing everything for it. How's that going. It's been
- 9:41busy, Manu. Yeah. For the last I would say month and a
- 9:46half two months, I've basically been just because you know, we're having it
- 9:50in the backyard. Got the pool done so the pools looking amazing, you
- 9:56know, been basically clearing out the backyard. We've been in this house for
- 9:58about a year, and uh, you know, we were taking care of
- 10:01the inside, but I just hadn't gotten to that backyard yet. So I
- 10:05finally was like trying to lock in and get the backyard looking pretty good,
- 10:09um, which I did. Um. I would basically you know, finished
- 10:13what I needed to do last week before I had to leave out to Chicago
- 10:16for work. Just got back from Chicago last night at eleven pm. Um,
- 10:20the engagement party is on Saturday. There's a few other things going on.
- 10:24Literally, got guys outside cutting the grass, trimming the trees and stuff
- 10:28right now. Um, you know, just trying to get things situated.
- 10:31Many lightning the tiles for you. No, no, we go hey,
- 10:37look I'm keeping the tiles just like that for Lester. Yo. That that
- 10:41was so funny dog, because to let everybody kind of know whence he sent
- 10:46a picture in the chat of like him like remulching like all the different areas
- 10:50around the house and stuff, and it looked really nice. But but then
- 10:54like he said this like path of like these tiles and like like were three
- 11:00of the towels, was like mad off the path and he sent the first
- 11:03picture and I'm like you know all right, you know, then he sent
- 11:07the picture after like yeah, I finished motion it and like you could tell
- 11:11he moved the toils. But you go some tell he was like fuck it
- 11:13at some point and was like just this is cool, like how it is.
- 11:18At that point, I'm like, come on, you gottas out.
- 11:24I gave it a little curve and it's funny because my OCD noticed about I
- 11:28was like, you know what, let me just zoom out, let me
- 11:31just joom out and keeping and then let's sit through it. He's like,
- 11:35yo, but what's up with those towels? And I was like yo,
- 11:37someone I didn't say. I was just like maybe he's maybe he hasn't took
- 11:41that picture after he fixed them up yet. And then the thing was like
- 11:43the um like the idea, Like I definitely understood the concept because I've been
- 11:48there too, where it's like you're outside doing work around your house and it's
- 11:54like you've done so much other stuff. You get to this one part and
- 11:58you look and you're like, man, this one's just gonna have to slide.
- 12:03Now. What really happened, dog is like I was mad because I
- 12:07didn't realize where I should have just moved the towers before I put the most
- 12:11down, because you know, once once I picked the tier up, all
- 12:15you're gonna see is what's under it, and now I gotta basically remote it.
- 12:18Yeah, so I was like, yeah, no, it's just gonna
- 12:20stay how it is. Right. Uh. A few weeks ago, during
- 12:28this uh, during this project I'm on and someone said it and they said
- 12:33good enough is the enemy of great, and I was like, wow,
- 12:37yeah, because you want to be great, but after a long time of
- 12:41time to be great, once you reach good enough, sometimes that's just where
- 12:46you stay. You know what is it right here? It's just as good
- 12:48as it's gonna get. That's that's the quote for the week right there.
- 12:52And that's something we talk about just as far as like different things we do,
- 12:56like whether it be the music, the DJ and anything. It's like,
- 13:00you get to a certain point where it's like, like you said,
- 13:03it's like good enough, Slash, I already did a lot of work to
- 13:05get here, but now you got to push through to the next level to
- 13:09make it something that people actually care about, you know what I mean,
- 13:11Like perfect example, we were talking before the pod, like last night,
- 13:16I finally was able to figure out my pro Tools thing. For everybody that
- 13:20don't know. Pro Tools is the program that most people that make music record
- 13:22their music on. It's kind of like the universal program that everybody uses,
- 13:26and it's you know, everybody's kind of compatible with it, so it's like
- 13:30the standard, you know, in the industry. And they dropped an update
- 13:33for pro Tools. Slash. My computer is kind of advanced for like the
- 13:39extras that I have for the program. So once they dropped this update,
- 13:43I lost a lot of things in the program. And I've been for like
- 13:48a week and a half trying to figure this out, and I got so
- 13:50many other things going on right now that I haven't given it the time and
- 13:54attention that I know I needed to give it. So last night I was
- 13:58like, you know what, I'm not gonna do my nightly routine until like
- 14:03ten o'clock. I kind of pushed it so that I could still have that
- 14:07energy later in the day to come in the studio, figure out what's going
- 14:11on, actually start recording something like get get my things situated again. And
- 14:16it's something that I've known I've had to do for like a week and a
- 14:18half. But other I wouldn't say more important things, but things that are
- 14:22equally important have kind of gotten in a way that I had to take care
- 14:26of first. But I knew, I'm like, I can't keep pushing this
- 14:28off. I can't keep letting the slide. So I took that extra time.
- 14:33I ended up having to go to sleep pretty late figuring it out.
- 14:35Slash working on the song that I was working on, but today's a new
- 14:39day. My thing is situated pause, and now I know that everything is
- 14:43gonna be how it's supposed to be. Now I can kind of go into
- 14:46the weekend with everything correct. You know, a lot of the projects I've
- 14:50been working on is very you know, in a stage where it needs to
- 14:54be. The other thing that I that I actually mentioned on the January podcast
- 14:58a project that I'm working on which is actually a brick and mortar business that
- 15:03we're going to be opening up. The other details I don't want to get
- 15:07into it yet, but that has been moving, but it hasn't been moving
- 15:11as fast as I'd like. So the busyness slash the stagnant nature of that
- 15:18have kind of been getting to me, you know what I mean. Like
- 15:20this week has been real trying in the sense of like something that we've been
- 15:24talking about before, like sometimes a lot of stuff is going on, but
- 15:28you don't really feel like things are getting done, you know what I mean.
- 15:31You're just kind of like in the shuffle of like everything's so busy right
- 15:35now, and you got to kind of that that's where the goals and that's
- 15:39where keeping focus is very important, because it could easily just all turn into
- 15:43mush and nothing get done. You know. Yeah, I know in my
- 15:48personal experience, like especially just kind of on the music tip, Yeah,
- 15:54it's it's literally that like if you don't kick stay locked in, don't you
- 15:56know, stick to the details, stay you know, consistent, that's where
- 16:02things get lost in the sauce. And I mean going back to kind of
- 16:04what I said last week or two weeks ago, that Good Day's song got
- 16:08lost in the sauce, you know what I'm saying, Like, really,
- 16:11you know, I had that in amount of drive for about three years,
- 16:14so it's like and now it's actually my best performance song. So it's just
- 16:18crazy how that kind of plays out. But it just goes back to that
- 16:22point. Yeah, you get back to the right time. And I think
- 16:23that's important when you're reaching that level where and I noticed it when you guys
- 16:30said music that we listened to sometimes I hear it, I'm like, that's
- 16:34good enough, and y'all still critique it and there's still more changes, And
- 16:37then I hear those changes, I'm like, Okay, now it's great,
- 16:41you know, And so you have to if you can't get to that great
- 16:45level, you need to take a step back, and that's what I find
- 16:49myself doing. I'm like, if I'm not putting it, I'm like,
- 16:52no, maybe I need to come back to this later. And that later,
- 16:55like for Quincy, might be three years, but still come back to
- 16:57the time where you're fully invested in it can get great instead of just half
- 17:00asking it the whole way to just to say you got something done. Yeah.
- 17:04I definitely feel that because I have somebody in my life that it's something
- 17:11that I always tell them, like, hey, you might not have the
- 17:15time right now, or you might not have the perfect situation to be able
- 17:19to follow through the way you want to, but just chipping away at that
- 17:23is so important. So many people get caught up in like the situation is
- 17:27not right right now, but the situation is never gonna be right. If
- 17:33you wait for them everything they can be perfect, it's never gonna happen for
- 17:37some people. And I definitely have those people in my life that they get
- 17:41these opportunities that pop up that maybe I perceive as like that's something they don't
- 17:45deserve, But a lot of times they'll fumble the situation because they're not mentally
- 17:52or just you know, they're not there yet as far as like Okay,
- 17:56I can put in the work for this to make it turn into this.
- 18:00They kind of want to see it like, oh, I wanted to be
- 18:02already the whole big thing that I thought it was gonna be like once it's
- 18:04a finished product. But it's like nah, man, like you always got
- 18:08to jump in before you can get to the point where like everything is all
- 18:14set up and magical like how you want it to be, you know what
- 18:17I mean? Yeah, And that's for sure. Timing. Timing is never
- 18:21gonna be perfect. Um. So there's two different aspects of it. One
- 18:26um, when when, when the opportunity to do it, do it if
- 18:32you have time to step back and come back to it. That's the thing
- 18:34we were talking about, Quincy. Um. You know, stepping back and
- 18:38coming back to it at a time when you feel it's right. And maybe
- 18:41you didn't. You didn't say to you, so may I'm gonna come back
- 18:44three years later and see how this track sounds. But when you did come
- 18:47back to it, you made it great and it's probably greater than it would
- 18:51have been three years ago had you made it. And to be um like,
- 18:56just to give my my transparent feelings about the situation Quincy and the music.
- 19:00It was something where it was like from the outside looking in, if
- 19:04you didn't really know what was going on, it was kind of like,
- 19:07dang, what's you know, what's going on? Where did the music go?
- 19:11Where did that vibe go? Like, what's what's happening? But me
- 19:15knowing the situation and kind of being around it, I understood like, dang,
- 19:19the music isn't being done right now, But I know that all these
- 19:23other things are being worked on. I know there's a plan in place.
- 19:26I know there's a vision and something that we get caught up a lot in
- 19:30with social media and with music in general. Like since we're talking specifically about
- 19:36music, is like that there's like an age limit or something like that.
- 19:38And I think about some somebody like Ronald Eisley and the Isisley Brothers where it's
- 19:44like these guys they I believe they said they viewed in fifty nine, nineteen
- 19:48fifty nine. I mean they still drop a new records, They're still working
- 19:52on music, they're still touring. Ronald Oisley's talking about he don't even feel
- 19:57right when he's music. Yeah, yeah, bro, I mean they've been
- 20:04going, you know, hit for hit with artists since the sixties, bro,
- 20:11like since fifteen present like that. That's something that just I mean,
- 20:18I've never had the thing in my head of like there's an age limit on
- 20:22music. But it's something that's real big, like just in the community.
- 20:26And it's not even something that's real big in music itself. It's really big
- 20:30in the urban scene of music, you know what I mean. Like growing
- 20:33up and Wentworth, it was always kind of like this thing where everybody wanted
- 20:37to be the young rapper that was the dopest, you know what i mean.
- 20:40Like and even if you had somebody that was like twenty five, that
- 20:44was nice. It's like, bro, you old you know what I'm saying,
- 20:47Like I'm I'm spitting right now. I'm fifteen and I'm spitting right now,
- 20:51you know what I mean. I got everybody in school listening this,
- 20:52this and that, but it's like, nah, man like music, especially
- 20:59with music, it's such a it's such a soul feeling thing. It's such
- 21:04a deep and spiritual thing. I Mean, I forgot who said it recently,
- 21:08and I don't know if this is exactly how they said it, but
- 21:11my interpretation of it was like music is something that you kind of go to
- 21:15another place, you kind of pull it out of that place, you bring
- 21:18it back and you say, hey, this is what I brought from this
- 21:23magical land that I just went to in my head. And then me as
- 21:27an artist, just like when I open my phone and I open my Instagram
- 21:33and I see somebody saying, like, man, this I listened to the
- 21:36song every day or man like you know they say, or like for example,
- 21:41Spotify, they give you your stats, they give you a rap up
- 21:42at the end of the year, like and it tells you, like this
- 21:45certain percentage of your fans you were their favorite artists. They listen to you
- 21:49every single day. That kind of thing is so special and magical to me.
- 21:55And just the idea that I could, like I said, go to
- 21:57that place, bring them back for people, to make them feel so good
- 22:03and just lock in such a good memory for them. There's just nothing like
- 22:07it. And you can't tell me that there's an age where you say,
- 22:12hey, you can't do this anymore or it's not gonna be effective or whatever
- 22:17the case is, Like, ain't no way you can put a limit or
- 22:21a box on something so magical, you know what I mean. And that's
- 22:26something where like why I'm so critical of music in general and just any music
- 22:33because I'm always looking and even my music, like I'm so critical of it.
- 22:37Going back to what you were saying, Joe, Like you hear something
- 22:40and be like, oh, this sounds though, but I'm looking at it
- 22:41like, bro, I want this to be something that when somebody hears it,
- 22:45they just have a feeling that they can't describe and they can listen to
- 22:49it fifty years from now when it transports them back to that place. And
- 22:53that's something that's not hard, that's not easy to do, you know what
- 22:56I mean. And that's why with music, something that me and Quincy always
- 22:59talk about, it's like you only got to be right once, you know
- 23:02what i mean. Music it hits people different ways, but sometimes there's just
- 23:06that one song that when you just do it and people hear it and they
- 23:11feel it, it just works. And that's what you're chasing as an artist,
- 23:14Like you're trying to do that as many times as possible, but you
- 23:17want to do it at least once. Right, Do you have one song
- 23:19like that that you feel that way every time you hear it? I mean,
- 23:25for me, I'm a very harsh critic of my own music. It's
- 23:29something that we've talked about before. I don't know if we are any any
- 23:32artists, oh, just from any artist period, any artist period. Man,
- 23:37I have one, and something just reminded me of it recently. That's
- 23:41how I feel when I listen to the More Money, More Problems. I
- 23:44feel like that is my all time favorite song. I can listen to that
- 23:48any day, anytime, any amount of times, over and over again,
- 23:52and I'm still not tired of it. Bro, it's crazy that you said
- 23:56that song, because let me tell you a crazy story, dog. So
- 23:59obviously, League, you know, I've heard a lot of music growing up
- 24:02and just back in the day and stuff. But the time that I really
- 24:06just got tuned in and really like zoned in on hip hop and like really
- 24:12just fell in love with it was literally that song, Bro. I had
- 24:15moved from Texas from Puerto Rico, and then it was like maybe like a
- 24:21year or two, like it was at the point where like I was no
- 24:23longer like real like island Puerto rican I was kind of like more as simulated
- 24:30into the US, and I spoke English real good, and everything I was
- 24:33like kind of been a different headspace than I was when I was coming over
- 24:37here from Puerto Rico or whatever. I had these neighbors bro a brother and
- 24:41a sister, and when I hung out with them, they put me onto
- 24:47that more money, more problems like that they had just dropped at that time,
- 24:51and it was something that like I remember watching the video, I remember
- 24:53hearing the song. I remember hearing the old school vibe, and I didn't
- 24:57know what it was at the time, but you know, they had that
- 25:00kind of sample with the old school vibe, the rapping, all the elements
- 25:06of it. It just drove me nuts, you know what I mean.
- 25:07I was like what it Like, what is this? And then the video
- 25:11is like the equivalent energy and like match the song so good it was.
- 25:18I couldn't that that made any other way. And then this was at the
- 25:22time when all that was really popping. And if y'all remember all that,
- 25:26they always had a musical guest at the end, and it was always a
- 25:27super dope guest. Mace was on there. I think the Locks was on
- 25:32there, Like yeah, it was like, I mean, it was crazy,
- 25:33and and those kind of two things like going together was like really made
- 25:38me lock in and love hip hop. You know what I mean, Like
- 25:41that song. But going back to your question, that song for me that
- 25:45I can never skip, and it's just it just gives me this feeling that
- 25:49I can't describe. Is DMX slipping. Oh, I love slipping whenever I
- 25:53hear Slipping by DMX that hook and just like the just everything about that song,
- 26:00it just it's so it's so full of pain, but it's so full
- 26:06of hope at the same time. And it was just like it hit me
- 26:10at a time where like even though I didn't relate to the things he was
- 26:15saying in the verses and I didn't really understand what he's talking about until way
- 26:18later, just the overall vibe and the feeling that it gave me, like
- 26:22damn man, Like life is tough, but man, you know I got
- 26:27you. He said, it's so hard, and the part where he's like,
- 26:30I gotta get up, like you could tell like that's how he felt.
- 26:33Like he you knew he was going through it, but you know,
- 26:37he just he got you gotta get up. Look especially where you're at and
- 26:41how far you made it. And like everybody thinks that Drake thing is corny
- 26:45that he added that Kim Kardashian life. But it's true, like you don't
- 26:48come as far as you are today just to stop. You know, you
- 26:53gotta keep going. You gotta see until you can't know more. You gotta
- 26:57see how far you can get what you're do. You got going up and
- 27:02going off of the Drake thing you're talking about, Like, that's the thing
- 27:03people like about Drake, regardless if you like him or not. He puts
- 27:08his emotion in the song. Oh yeah, yeah, you know what I
- 27:11mean. If it's an emotion that you relate to or not, you know,
- 27:15whatever the case is, he's putting that real emotion in the song and
- 27:19you you channel it, you know what I mean. And that's that's like
- 27:22one of those things about DMX that it's like I feel like he's especially one
- 27:26of those rappers that gets a little lost in translation in time, you know
- 27:32what I'm saying. Like it's not something that you're really gonna listen to later
- 27:34on and necessarily catch the vibe of what it really was. But it's like
- 27:41seeing all the stuff that he was going through and what he was doing,
- 27:44and just like the music he was dropping and just the feeling behind everything he
- 27:48was doing. It was just so special and there's like a very short list
- 27:52of people that can really put that type of emotion in such a simple and
- 27:59complex way, you know what I mean. It's just so it's so layered
- 28:03and it just hits in a way that it's like wow, man, like
- 28:06you really feel that. Yeah, man, you know when I think about
- 28:11like a song that you know always takes me back, you know what I'm
- 28:14saying, Like for me, it's a J Cole song, and this was
- 28:18actually Wade. You know, I've been a fan of J Cole since he
- 28:21was dropping the mixtape stuff. And it gets me so mad because this song
- 28:25you can't find it on streaming services Spotify, Apple Music, whatever. I
- 28:29always got to go to SoundCloud or YouTube to hear it. But it's called
- 28:33show Me Something, and um um, honestly, I think it was just
- 28:40it wasn't awful. I don't think it was off of any of the tapes.
- 28:41I think it was just like a single. But basically, um,
- 28:47I remember the first time I heard that song. Mind you, this is
- 28:48back when I like, probably my first job, I'm working at KFC minimum
- 28:53wage, you know, fail in college. You know what I'm saying,
- 28:57Like, really no direction just you know, doing whatever, And that song
- 29:03spoke to me. Bro spoke to me, and it still speaks to me
- 29:04to this day, fifteen twenty half, many years later. But I have
- 29:08like this little ritual where every time I go for like a job interview or
- 29:15anything like that, I listened to that song on repeat because it always takes
- 29:21me back to where I started. It was that KFC minimum wage you know.
- 29:26And I'm telling you, Bro, I've probably had nine or ten jobs
- 29:30since then, and before every interview I have, I listened to that song
- 29:33because it puts me into that It locks me into that mode of like I'm
- 29:37pushing forward, I'm pushing towards a better life, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:41Like, and I don't know, Bro, that song to me,
- 29:44man is like still probably one of his best songs. That's dope, man,
- 29:48because similarly, that's what Slipping does to me. Like it's something that
- 29:52when I hear it, I just I really just get transported to my childhood,
- 29:56Like I really it really just puts a picture in my head of the
- 30:00streets and Wentworth and just the feel like that song really makes me go back
- 30:04and feel how I felt at that time and really just understand how far my
- 30:10life has grown and how far I've come, and like what I was able
- 30:15to like overcome by the by the grace of God or however it happened,
- 30:19like it happened, and it was just like it's something that when I hear
- 30:23that song, I just remember that those hopeless feelings that I used to have
- 30:27as a kid, you know what I mean. I just remember those moments
- 30:30where I'm like, dang, like how am I in this situation? Like
- 30:33what did I do to end up here? Like I'm not a bad person,
- 30:37you know what I mean. Like it really just puts me in that
- 30:40in that mindset, and it's funny because like I said, it's like it's
- 30:44so it's so much hope and despair at the same time. But I just
- 30:48love the way it makes me feel because it just makes me really appreciate life,
- 30:52you know what I mean. Facts, Bro, like that song for
- 30:56me, Bro, Like so this is the line that literally like this,
- 31:00and that's another thing I didn't mention. It woke me up, Bro.
- 31:03That song woke me up to get out of the stuff that I was doing
- 31:04because I wasn't doing shit, and um, like on the last verse,
- 31:08he he kind of starts it up, like, you know, my nigga's
- 31:11drug dealing in the trap. I'm telling you, wake up, nigga gets
- 31:14the trap. You set up and tell them young niggas fed up. Just
- 31:17keep your head up, don't let up. You fall, you get up,
- 31:18you make your bed up. That you're sleeping. Fake rappers ain't practicing
- 31:21what they preaching. They tell you hit the trap while they relaxing on the
- 31:23beaching. And I remember when I was hearing that. When I heard that
- 31:26at that time, bro, it just like a switch one off in my
- 31:30head, Like I was like, Bro, I gotta I gotta do better
- 31:33for myself, you know what I'm saying. And again it just kind of
- 31:36goes back to that ritual. But it's like every time I'm pushing forward,
- 31:38I go back to that moment. Yeah, it all means something. The
- 31:44click for me that the feeling them money more problem gives me. It's just,
- 31:48um, honestly, was just the flashiness and it's something that I've always
- 31:56wanted to attain. And now I'm not that flashy, but I feel that
- 32:01in my life what I have is flashy like and it's just simple stuff.
- 32:07You know what I mean, but I feel to me, I've reached that
- 32:08point where I'm getting what I've always considered was flashy in my life, and
- 32:14I'm getting in now and I'm living that flashy lifestyle. And it's not about
- 32:16brands and showing off, because I'm not even I don't even do that.
- 32:22It is just that what I got, like my PC, my monitors,
- 32:24my phone, might headphones, just this little shit that I enjoy being able
- 32:30to have. I reach the level where I can get all these little things
- 32:32I want for myself. So I've attained that level of success that they gave
- 32:37in that video. Even though I'm not on a yacht or flying private jets
- 32:42or got rollies on my hand, I still reach. I still feel I
- 32:45reach the same level of success they did. I feel like in my life
- 32:47I reached what I saw them reaching in their lives. And I feel like,
- 32:52and I'm gonna keep going to see how far I can get. But
- 32:54that's the feeling. So when I hear that song, I hear success,
- 32:59I hear reaching the status. I hear living your dreams, and it motivates
- 33:06me to continue doing it and just just keep going in. And I really
- 33:10like how they in the video they put in big, big interview where he's
- 33:16like, you know, the more money you get, the more problems you
- 33:19get. And it just comes with the territory just negative and let a man
- 33:22puffs say, but it's true. But but the way I looked at it,
- 33:24you're gonna have problems with your whole life, don't matter what. And
- 33:28if you think that reaching the reaching a certain level of success is going to
- 33:31bring you more problems and more stress, you're gonna get that shit anyways.
- 33:36And you shouldn't let that kind of stuff hold you back. So that that
- 33:39that's kind of the message I've always heard, and that's how powerful that song
- 33:44was to me. And then that's why I'm still here. And I'm like,
- 33:45oh yeah, oh yeah, it just it just motivates me, feels
- 33:50me, you know, just acknowledges that I've continued in my path as I
- 33:55should be in I still got more to go. It's crazy how all three
- 34:00of these songs are so different, but like they kind of hit us all
- 34:02the same as far as like pushing us forward, you know what I mean,
- 34:06Like and even just speaking specifically about like lyrics in the song that made
- 34:10me feel a certain way, even just the beginning of the song for Slipping,
- 34:15like the beginning as far as the beginning of his verse where he goes,
- 34:17I've been through mad different phases like mazes to find my way away.
- 34:22Now I know the happy days are not far away, like just like that
- 34:25right there, when I really like took that in and understood that. It's
- 34:30like, man, like you're in the situation you're in, you know what
- 34:34I mean. You can't change right now, but you can make changes to
- 34:38be somewhere else later, you know what I mean. Like, and that's
- 34:42something um, you know, we're kind of wrapping up right now, but
- 34:45it's something definitely I want to tap into because it's been something that's been heavy
- 34:47on my mind as far as you know, I've been able to kind of
- 34:52like get out of the trap kind of like um Quincy was talking about,
- 34:57you know what I mean, like getting out of that trap and moving.
- 35:00But I also understand the idea that some people don't have that luxury to have
- 35:07that light go off. And a lot of people think that that's something that
- 35:13people don't have happened to them because they're ignorant, I mean not because the
- 35:16ignorant. They think that it's something that they just say, Oh, now
- 35:19I'm lazy or not, I don't want to do better whatever. A lot
- 35:22of times there's people that just don't have a situation or somebody around them to
- 35:28really say, hey, there's something better than this, you know what I
- 35:30mean. And that's something that I've always felt, like people that don't grow
- 35:34up you know, low income and and and like those hood environments and stuff.
- 35:38People that don't grow up like that, they don't understand that. Like
- 35:40when there's so many people around you that are just so negative and just kind
- 35:45of like all in a hurry to be at the bottom, it's hard sometimes
- 35:51to find, you know, just even a light in your head to go
- 35:53off to say hey, you don't got to be here, you know what
- 35:55I mean, Like this, it's easier to get out of here than you
- 35:58think it is, you know. Yeah, And that's something that's been like
- 36:01heavy on my mind because there's so much to that, because there's also people
- 36:06that even if you kind of paved the way, they still don't want to
- 36:08come out of that situation, you know what I mean. But like I
- 36:10said, that's a topic for another time. That's a good topic. That's
- 36:15a good topic, and It's funny, like I see people over the years
- 36:20and you know, image image is portrayed on social media is crazy. And
- 36:23even people who I thought I knew, not close, but just I knew
- 36:28personally. I'm like, oh, they're good, they're good, you know,
- 36:31like, oh, they reached a good level, they're doing good.
- 36:34They got this, they got that. And now years later I see him
- 36:37like starting all over completely. I'm like, what happened? Like I thought
- 36:43you was good? And it's like maybe, you know, maybe they wasn't
- 36:45good. Maybe that light never clicked until now, and all power to them,
- 36:50but it's just crazy how it seems like, and you know, having
- 36:53micall kind of the same thing. He's seeing how his career progression went and
- 36:58then just he did a one eighty. He's somewhere doesn't align anything that he's
- 37:01ever grown up with. And it's just nuts. And I sometimes think if
- 37:07a light's gonna go off for me and that I'm gonna change everything. But
- 37:10I think I'm so confident, I guess I don't want to say secure,
- 37:15because nothing's ever secure, but confident that I'm still in the right path,
- 37:20I'm in the right lane. I'm still going where I'm destined to go.
- 37:22I'm still on the right path, and I don't see anything changing. I
- 37:27see things improving it, but I don't see anything drastically changing what I'm doing.
- 37:32And kind of going off what you're saying with the social media and stuff
- 37:35is like it kind of ties in to what I was talking about last week,
- 37:38where it's like you gotta kind of look inward, put the phone down
- 37:42and just really take in, you know, the spirituality of life and just
- 37:46you know, really really really digest what you're doing and what's going on around
- 37:52you and figuring out, is this how I want to spend my time.
- 37:57Yeah, yep, but yeah, man, um, I know it's been
- 38:01a little minute. Um. You know, if y'all wanted to give out
- 38:05any updates anything that y'all got coming up, I know me and Quincy got
- 38:08that Good morning Love dropping me nineteen one video is one of my favorite videos
- 38:15y'all so far. Yes Man shot out to Johnny Man. Johnny did his
- 38:19thing. I love working with him. He started to get Yeah, follow
- 38:22him. He's funny. He posts a funny content too. Yeah. Yeah,
- 38:25he had his cracking up at that shoot. Man. We had a
- 38:29we had a good little time man, Yeah, we started, mind you,
- 38:31we shot that the same day that the Good Day's video was shot.
- 38:35For anybody, that's the video that Joe was talking about earlier that we were
- 38:37up early that morning shooting another video that went to the cook at the barbecue
- 38:43and shoot the other video, and oh man, it was just like you
- 38:46said, Joe, it's it's a lot of a lot of time taking.
- 38:51But if you don't take that time, things aren't gonna get done, you
- 38:52know. And and that's the way. It's a lot of behind the scenes
- 38:54thing. Like you guys didn't post about that. Nobody knows all that.
- 38:58Everybody thinks we just had a barbecue and everything was glorious that day, but
- 39:00there's so much that went into that day that we had to take care of
- 39:05in order to enjoy that barbecue, and we were able to because of that
- 39:08facts. Also, I got Reminisce dropping on May twelfth as well, so
- 39:15we're gonna have some back to back joints with that. So yeah, definitely
- 39:17a lot. Man. I'm excited, bro, It's been a good,
- 39:21good few months with the music tip you know, just kind of going back
- 39:22to what you said earlier, less just about the last couple of years and
- 39:27kind of having you know, the situations I was going through, kind of
- 39:30causing a little bit of writer's block, and you know the things that I
- 39:34was going through. Kind of stopping the music journey and being able to kind
- 39:37of just be consistent over the last few months has just been so exciting.
- 39:39So yeah, man, y'all tap in with Reminisce on May twelfth, that
- 39:44Good Morning Love joint with Less on May nineteenth, and we're just gonna keep
- 39:47it rolling. Yes said anything you want to throw out there, Joe,
- 39:52I finally download, so I want to be back a week. So mind
- 39:55you, I haven't had a month and I have to even try to put
- 39:59them in out. But I have music. I have music. I'm not
- 40:04gonna say how I got the music I did. I just did five seconds
- 40:07ago. I'm not gonna repeat it, but I have the music. It's
- 40:09loaded, it's ready, mixes dropping this weekend. It'll be out before this
- 40:15episode is out, so we can we can definitely look forward to the ground
- 40:20and mixes very if these guys allow me, I'll make some unreleased tracks they
- 40:24got. But the consistency of YouTube, and I've always watched Lester be consistent,
- 40:30you know, and as Quincy started, I have seen him fall off
- 40:36since he started, and it's crazy to see somebody pick up where they left
- 40:40off years ago and not slowed down. And that's just admirable, influential,
- 40:47motivational. I'm not slowing down. There's no way I'm slowing down. This
- 40:52podcast isn't slowing down. We're not slowing down whatever. No matter where anybody
- 40:55says, everything's gonna continue coming. We're gonna put in your face and we're
- 41:00continuously asking for input, support, likes, everything, reach out, comments,
- 41:07just hit us up, man, because we're not stopping. Nothing stopping
- 41:09over here. You're gonna put it in the face Joe. Pause pause,
- 41:14pause, gess the whole thing too. Do not, do not
