- Brandon: Well, welcome once again to another episode of the Daily Word Podcast. I am so thrilled that you've joined us today, and I'm so excited to share with you from God's Word. today's September the 28th, our New Testament reading from the Life Journal Reading Plan. It is Luke chapter 11. And like we do every single day, I simply want to take an opportunity to share with you what I I'm journaling on what I'm catching from the scripture today in hopes that it number one encourages you, gives you some some inspiration for the day. It's little 10-minute thought you can put in your pocket to help you today follow Jesus and faithfully be and do all that he's called you to, but also just reminding you that man, it's cool that God speaks to me, but man, God wants to speak to you too in a very personal, individual way. And so grab a Grab a Bible, grab your life journal, grab a pen, and go spend time with God. That being said, today the reading is Luke chapter 11. I'm going to read to you verses 9 through, let's go 13. Here's what it says. Jesus speaking, these are red letters. So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be open to you. For every one who asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be open. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone, or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion, scorpion? If you then being evil know how to good give good gifts to your children, How much more will your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him? I know that not everybody grew up with the best dad or in the best home environment. And that can be challenging for us in a lot of ways, but in particular when it comes to approaching the scripture, because one of the ways that Jesus most relates us to God. Is God as a good heavenly father? God's a good father. In fact, He's the best father. And I'll just say if you didn't have a dad or you didn't have a dad that was a good dad, be encouraged today because there is a heavenly father who, in a very real way, wants to be the best dad ever in your life. Jesus relates us to God as God's children, as God's In God being a good heavenly father. And here's this passage, here's what Jesus says. He goes, so so if you'll ask, it's gonna be given to you. If you'll seek, you're gonna find it. If you'll knock, the door is gonna be opened. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it is open. And the observation that I'm making today is simply this that we gotta be reminded that we have a really good heavenly father who invites us to bring to him all that is in our heart and all that is on our mind. Man, there's some things right now I really, really need. God goes, cool. Ask. Can I ask you a question? The things that you have need of, are you currently asking God? Because here's what I found in my own life. There's things that I need and things that I'm worried and stressed trying to figure out how to get and I haven't even asked God yet. The book of James says you have not because you ask not. Are you asking God? God goes, hey, are there things that you need? Ask. Then he says this, are there things that like you just you haven't figured out or things you're wondering? Seek. Hey, seek and you'll find. I need answers. I need solutions. I I need a door, a door to be he goes, seek. Hey, if you'll just come s like come talk to me, come seek, you're gonna find. Are there doors you need opened? Opportunities? Solutions. Are there things that you need open? He goes, come and knock, knock at the door, and it will be open for everyone who asks, receives. He who seeks, finds. And him who knocks, it will be open. This is a promise we have from God. In fact, God's Jesus says, listen, if you're like a normal on like just on-earth dad, if your kid come and a comes and asks you like for bread, you don't hand him rocks. If he asks you for some food, you don't give him a snake. If he asks you for for for for an egg, you're not gonna give him a scorpion. No, like When your kid comes and asks you, to the best of your ability, you give them the things they're asking for, the things they want, the things they need. And he goes, How much more does your heavenly father want to give you the things that you need, the things that you ask of him? Now, here's a caveat. But I think it's important. Well, I don't know, Brandon, because I've asked God for stuff before, but he hasn't given it to me. And here's the caveat. I don't think Jesus is so much saying, hey, just whatever you want, ask me, like I'll give it to you. Like I'm I'm a genie in the sky. No. I think what we have is an invitation from God that God says, Hey, I want you to come talk to me. I'm inviting you to come start a conversation with me where you're asking me, you're seeking me, and you're you're knocking on the door of Of heaven, if you will. And and if you'll do that, I'm gonna talk to you, I'm gonna show you some things, and I'm gonna open that door every single day. Can I tell you that the things that you think you need aren't always the things you think you need? And God's promise isn't to give you whatever you ask for. God's promise is to give you the things that you actually need. And when you come to Him and He goes, Hey, let's talk about that. Like let's let's just say you need money right now. It's like God, I just need money. God, give me cash. God, God, give me 15 million dollars. And God goes, All right, keep keep keep keep asking, seeking, knocking. But maybe God doesn't just give you $15 million. Maybe God goes, hey, so so yeah, let's let's talk about money. There's an opportunity I put in front of you for work. And you you just you're not willing to take it. Can we talk about that? Because I don't just want to give you money, I want to give you a good work ethic so you can work with diligence and discipline as un as unto me in everything you do. Hey, can can we talk about your budgeting? Because like I know you think you need money, but you spent three thousand dollars last month on DoorDash. And more than I just want to give you money, I want to Talk to you about a place called Aldi where you can go and you can buy a four- It's like what is this, an Aldi advertisement? Come on, Brandon. But my my my point is that it's not an invitation necessarily just go, hey God, just give me things I want. It's an invitation to come to God as a good heavenly father and way, hey, hey dad. Hey God, can I talk to you about some stuff? There's some things I need. There's some things I'm trying to figure out. There's some things that I just I I I need help. And he goes, come to me. Ask. I'll help you. Seek. I'm going to show you. Knock. I'm going to open my door to you. And like a good dad does, I'm going to love you. I'm going to teach you. And I am ultimately going to meet every need you have. And so here's the question I want to ask again with whatever you have need of today, wherever you are in life. Are you asking God? Are you seeking God? Are you knocking at heaven's door? Because I'm telling you, you got a good Heavenly Father that He wants your body to be healed. He wants your marriage to be good. He wants your bills to be paid and your needs to be met. God wants to give you all the things you need, but you have to go to Him and let Him talk to you, let Him teach you, let Him show you, let Him open your eyes to some things and even let Him open the windows of heaven and Blow you away with how good and generous and gracious He is. We have a good Heavenly Father that we can go to with all of our needs, and if we will, He'll help us. So, God, today I'm praying for everyone listening. Give them a revelation that you're a good Heavenly Father, and that in every season and every circumstance, they can go to you for all things, and you will meet them there. In Jesus' name, Amen. Hey, love you so much. So thankful for you. And we'll see you tomorrow on another episode of the Daily Word Podcast.
